Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio Happy twenty twenty six,
See you and yours welcome in a day full of
college football. Sun shining in South Florida, not so much
in Pasadena. Kirk kurb Street's still on his hat for
the last forty five minutes with his hat number two.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, that's hat number two, but apparatus number three. He
had a blue towel, some random blue towel covering up
his head, and then he went white hat that I saw,
And now he's got a gray rose bowl hat and
it looks like.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Not Rhys Davis.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It looks like he's wearing the trench coat that Robert
stack woorren on sold Mysteries. So there is, there's all
sorts of stuff going on there. Nick Saban clearly wearing
a jacket that isn't his.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
He's well, yes, true, Jake.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Should I wear this Nike pullover over my turqoise ten
thousand dollars suit?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Nobody checked the weather forecast? Is nobody paying attention to, Like,
what's what's happening?
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Why does it say Stanford track on the seat like
that doesn't make much sense? Why Why is kirkirk Street's
dog taking a water slide down section the road is
something there.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
He goes sliding into the water.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Redhurbstreet's dog walks into frame and just starts shaking himself
out in front of the Indiana helmet.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
All over my Stanford truck. Check. That's a soggy want
to Pasadena.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
But we are based in southern California, and I can
tell you this, the heaviest rains are gonna move out
by kickoff.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
It may not be sunny, it may not be clear,
but there may.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Not be as much precipitation as we would have thought
for the Rose Bowl. So I think that's good news
for Indiana and Alabama as they played later on today.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, I won't be quite as sloppy. No, And you know,
you'd assume they'd have all that figured out. And look,
I know, so look, Alabama fans like to travel. I
do recall working in South Carolina back in two thousand
and nine when they were in the Rose Bowl against
Texas for the National Championship Game, and I just remember
(02:14):
how excited Alabama fans were with this travel package they
got hooked up with where they would fly into San
Diego and then rent a car and then go to
the Rose Bowl, and I said, are you familiar with
traffic for a five o'clock kickoff at the Rose Bowl
from San Diego, La?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Are you who sold you at dummy?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Geography is a lost art? Okay, it truly is. I
love maps. I know you love maps as well. I
love knowing where cities and states are. I had a
cousin once tell me that she had business in San Francisco,
and she wondered if I had time to get together,
what like a full weekend, because that's what it's gonna take. Yeah,
for me to get from here in Los Angeles to
(02:55):
San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
That's what it is, just right up the five.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, don't worry about it.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
We're not the Twin Cities. It's not Saint Paula Minneapolis.
I could just drive over to your place. I don't
how it works.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I don't think people realize how far away things are
in California. Like, if you get like in any other
part of the country, if it's like, hey, how far
is that not twenty miles twenty minutes, twenty miles in California,
you may as well be driving to the Sudanne.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, you can't get there. It's not happening like switch
the app. It says walking, No one says driving. That
is that is.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
The route you cannot get there.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
That's that's what we're going to have to take.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah, it's impossible. There are Indiana fans here. We'll talk
about the mystique of the Rose Bowl coming up. Even
more so in about twenty minutes or so, there's a
mistake about Aaron Rodgers, and the question is, now is
how long will that mystiq?
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Last?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
I do think in advance of that Sunday Night came
between the Ravens and Steelers. Jonas that with all that's
being said for what's at stake, it has been a
pretty good season for Rogers.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, I would agree, Yeah, I totally. I mean definitely
better than the Jets, like whatever you wouldever you call
that sperience.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
With the Jets, absolutely right, Like the even the second
year when he played was such a complete mass with
Sala being fired. We know the first year, the runout,
the injury on the fourth play. The worst part about
that then was all the rumors of when Rogers is
going to come back. But none of his tenure was
good in New York and so for Aaron Rodgers, to
(04:22):
go to Pittsburgh and be battling for a division title
in week eighteen. I think it's something you would have
taken day one and signing on the dotted line saying yeah,
I would take that. I don't think your expectations would
be more than that. And there are a heck of
a lot more than when he had to deal with
the last two years with the Jets.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, if you just told him back in August, tay
one game to win the division final week of the season,
and yeah, who wouldn't want that?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah, of course. I mean, and look, we talked about
it earlier.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
We don't think it's going to last long if they win,
but I still I would agree with you that it is.
It has been a successful campaign, and who knows, I mean,
according to Aaron Rodgers, maybe there's going to be some
options out there, and maybe there's going to be uh part,
potentially an act too in Pittsburgh or somewhere else after
this season.
Speaker 5 (05:07):
Listen, I mean, I'm thinking about this week. But obviously
I'm forty two years old and I'm on a one
year deal, so you know what the situation is. Whenever
the season ends, I'll be a free agent. So that
would give me a lot of options if I still
want to play. I'm in a lot of options, but
there'll be options. I would think maybe one or two
if I decided to want to play.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
But yeah, so there's gonna be some options out there.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Rogers is never and we can get into the options
in a second. So Rogers has never held back in
anything that he's I said.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I thought we were going to play the CBS drop.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Over Hardy and Bert Kreischer.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
By the way, we may have more coming up later
on in the show, so you may want to you
may want to stick around to.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Come to the conclusion of Jason Alden.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
A little big down.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
The Rogers speeches, interviews, everything that he's done, You've always
been his truth.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
He's never held anything back.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
And what I find interesting is if this was any
other quarterback in a situation, like if Tua is asked
about the same thing about his future, if it was
Kyler Murray, or like they're giving coach speak answers. They're
giving answers that have soft landings. For the most part.
(06:25):
This is a pretty like hard landing. But it's not
a hard landing because we know the situation. He's forty
two years old, the Steelers want him back, yet he's
openly talking about the different options that he has. So
that's what's so unique to me about this is we
think that, say, the Tua era is over in Miami,
we think that the Kyler Murray era has probably come
(06:48):
to an end in Arizona. But if you were to
ask those guys or talk to those guys, nobody is
saying like, yeah, I'm probably on my way out. I'm
looking different teams that they could trade me to. But
that's essentially what Aaron Rodgers saying is I'm a free agent.
There's going to be options out there, one of which
could be Minnesota considering how bad that quarterback room.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Was this past year.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I mean, taking nine out of the equation, it's going
to say, yeah, keeping JJ McCarthy in, but leaving nine
out because Night had nothing to do with any of
that mess. But I mean, Rogers are just like openly
saying that I don't know what's coming back. Doesn't even
come off as leverage. And so it's it's so unique
to hear him just to speak freely like that, because
the thirty one other quarterbacks about their situation if they
(07:30):
were in a similar contract situation wouldn't be talking like
that in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
No, And I think he's And you could say whatever
you want about him and the way he handles the
media and the way he handles conversations, and you know,
whether he's passive, aggressive or like whatever turn whatever you
want to label him as. I also think that he's
very in the moment and I think he's very present.
And I think that's one of the things that he
(07:55):
because he talked about this after he won a Super
Bowl in Green Bay that he remembers sitting on a plane,
He's next to the Lombardi Trophy and kind of looking around,
going is this it like? Is that like it was
built up and built up and built up, and he
finally got it and he was expecting it to be more.
And I think that sort of changed because Kevin Durant
said the same thing before CBS cut him off. Kevin
(08:15):
Durant said the same thing, and I think it was
kind of like, you know, I worked my way, I
had to win a championship, I had to do this,
I go and join the Warriors. I finally won a title,
I went another one, and it's like, is that it
and I think I think Rogers at this stage in
his career is so present because I think he realizes this,
this could be it, and I think I'm gonna be
(08:37):
okay with it. But if there's options, I'll take those options.
And I just think it's a really kind of a
refreshingly honest approach to what could be the final game
of a Hall of Fame career.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Did you get the sense that Tom Brady was chasing
the eighth after he won the seventh with Tampa, like
the next year he was back for another Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I just think trying to get away from his wife.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I could have been that could have been it.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
And hey, let me tell you something, Hey Tom, we're
working to buddy, So don't worry.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Don't worries his wife's I can do jiu jitsu in
thirty minutes. The I got the sense that Brady was
always chasing that next ring because hecki said it himself, like, what's.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Your favorite one? The next one?
Speaker 1 (09:24):
It's very cliche. It's a great catchy line to show
your determination. But I do think that he wanted to
put the Super Bowl records so out of reach that
nobody would touch it. And in this day and age
of everything is built on championships, more so in the
NBA than anywhere else, but in the NFL as well. Listen,
we've criticized Aaron Rodgers for only winning one. We've criticized
(09:46):
Drew Brees for only winning one. We've criticized Sean Payton
for only winning one and having these opportunities. But it's
not about that for Aaron Rodgers. So for Aaron Rodgers
to go in and have a nice season and enjoy
the season and enjoy being around Mike Tomlin and winning
games and playing football, that's okay. Like, that's okay. If
he wants to go to Minnesota and maybe try to
(10:07):
stick it to the pack again, I don't know. I
don't know Packer fans would feel about that, or if
he just feels the situation is better, Maybe he wants
to throw to better wide receivers, feels maybe offensively he
could do more in Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Look at that option. That's okay too.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Do we think the Vikings are gonna win the Super
Bowl next year if they have Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:25):
So this is this is all okay.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
If Aaron Rodgers wants to do to do that, and
I actually feel it's refreshing. I didn't think he was
gonna come back next year, but for how well and
I use air quotes that things have gone with Pittsburgh
and they haven't even won the Division of clinch to
playoff Berth, I think there's enough there for Rogers to
be like, yeah, I could probably do this for another
go around.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
And I also think if he does come back, I
think it's more likely it would be Pittsburgh. I think
he's comfortable there and that's if you know, if he's
if he decides he wants to come back or they
and he decides that's that's how he wants to play
this thing out, I think it would be Pittsburgh. I
also think that the best thing that happened for his
(11:06):
relationship with the Packers was his time with the Jets,
because I think he realized, oh god, like it wasn't
bad at all, Like whatever their decision to, you know,
did Jordan love stuff and all that. Like, I think
he he was chasing something similar to Green Bay, and
I think he's gotten it in Pittsburgh because there's a
lot of similarities between the two organizations. The history, the tradition,
(11:31):
the consistency, like much like we see the Packers and
you know, they've had three quote unquote, you know, franchise
quarterbacks in you know, thirty five years or whatever it is.
Steelers have had three coaches in sixty years. Like, I
think there's a lot of similarities between the two. And
I think the Jets being such a vomit bucket, I
think made him appreciate his time in Green Bay even
(11:53):
more so than he did before. And I think he
found a lot of the similarities in Pittsburgh. And I
think that you're right about that.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
And so he had the line, if can we play
it again, Mark, I can we play Aaron Rodgers again?
Because there was a line that he said that I
think stands down. There's a reason why I brought up
the Vikings. But let's hear Aaron Rodgers yesterday again.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
I mean, I'm thinking about this week. But obviously I'm
forty two years old and I'm on a one year deal,
so you know what the situation is. Whenever the season ends,
I'll be a free agent, so that will give me
a lot of options if I still want to play.
I'm in a lot of options, but there'll be options.
I would think maybe one or two if I decide
I still want to play.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
So there that last part like not a lot of
options that he laughs, He's like, well, not a lot,
but maybe one or two. And I think, like Minnesota
is an opportunity. And your point about him appreciating Green Bay,
I think it's true in the sense of I think
he may also appreciate a little more Mike McCarthy at
Matt Lafleur because of his relationship with Mike Tomlin and
(12:57):
how good it's been. And I think that right may
look and this is just me guessing, but he really
respects Mike Tomlin, like there's no doubt, like there's no
different But Mike Tomlin isn't an offensive guy. And Aaron
Rodgers loves to be the smartest guy in the room,
and that includes.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
If the head coach is there or not.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
So if it's Mike McCarthy where there was some budding
of heads and Matt Lafleur where there was some frustrations,
Rogers had his way, and I wonder if he's now like,
you know what, after going through the Jets crap, I
really respect Mike Tomlin. How can you not respect what
Kevin O'Connell has done. I think Kevin O'Connell's beloved by
everyone like that, that would be an option for him
(13:38):
that maybe because of how things went so bad for
the Jets, he's like, Okay, maybe now.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
I do want to play.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Maybe I would go about this differently working with a
head coach who is so offensive minded. So I think,
if I'm reading between the lines, that's what I'm reading
between the lines. Is his one or two options as
a free agent would be other teams. Otherwise he would
just end up retiring.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
And I mean, you know, I think I don't know
if you want to apologize now or if you want
to do it later, but like to just to disrespect
nine like that in.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
The years, I just think I apologize to nine, not
to JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Okay, that's fine, only to nine. We'll split the difference,
that's fine. I just you know, I think it's pretty disrespectful.
I mean, we open up the year and you're just
like throwing shade at the guy. I mean, he's out there.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
What year is it? Nine? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Why don't they drop a nine? Why was everybody who
wearing twenty twenty six classes? I thought this was the
year of nine.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Like what's just the most absurd thing in the world.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I call him nine.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Oh you do.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
We're glad you call him that.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
We'd like to call your name when we're doing a game,
that's what we'd like to call.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
So who thought that was a good idea?
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Right?
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Who thought that was a good idea?
Speaker 2 (14:46):
But but yeah, I would say the same teams that
were rumored to have interest in Rogers, if it's not Pittsburgh,
are going to be the same teams this offseason. Like
I think Minnesota would be one. God, maybe that's it.
Like there was conversations about, you know, maybe San Francisco,
(15:09):
but I think that that ship is sailed.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Clearly.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
The Raiders would be interesting only because there would I
think there's going to be a new coach there.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
But you also, number one, I don't think some gud so, well,
what's going on?
Speaker 3 (15:21):
What's going on with the rain? What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
The worst the worst team in the league has played
the fewest rookie snaps of any team in the league.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yeah, they fired Chip Kelly, they got too Dad, you
know what you're talking.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Things are good when sixty seven percent of your coordinators
are fired, but one hundred percent of your kids stay
on staff.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
You know what you know, it's you know, I threw
out this proposal.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
You know, I had this idea for Raider fans.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
I don't know if you sign in on this, but
you know, when everyone's talking about like what the Raiders
should do in the draft, I think there should be
another draft, and I think we do a big event.
I think you open up, it's at Allegiate Stadium. You're
going to sell it out. You open up with a
performance by the Blue Man Group. Then you have a
bunch of fat fake Elvis's come out in Act two
(16:04):
and Act three. The main event is Raider fans get
to draft a new team. And I think if you
really want to do something for the fan base to
get excited, tell him to get off Tankathon. Okay stop,
you know, like like literally like Raider fans have spent
time on Pornhub and Tankathon in the last three weeks.
Like that that's been that's been their algorithm and their
(16:25):
search history. Let it go because whoever it is isn't
going to fix that disaster that is the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
It's like Fernando Mendoza is not going to fix the Raiders.
Like I'm sorry, I know everyone thinks this is like,
this is the case. It's just not going to happen.
So maybe Rogers to the Raiders could be a possible.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
There was a point this year we thought the biggest
issue with the Raiders was that Tom Brady was in
the coaches group.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
You have a tuxedo on.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
He's giving up inside information.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
He literally looked like he showed up late for his
kids recital, like in his work clothes and just like
sat like so.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
I was in the bag the whole time I saw it.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
I'm here, oh man.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
That at the time we thought was the worst thing
that could happen with the Raiders this season. By the way,
and they played more football games. I had a buddy
try and pull that move. I had a buddy tried
to pull that move. My awful band back of the day.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
We were playing a show at the Whiskey of Go Go,
and I had my buddy who was like, uh, I
come down off stage and he's like, he's.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Like, hey, man, it's all do great show man. That
was an awesome show. I was like, yeah, you like him,
So what's your favorite part? So dude, all of it, man,
you guys rocked. I was like, yeah, all of it.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
It's like, hey, man, I saw you just walk up
through the side, like where they're literally offloading equipment on
from the stage for the next band to come up.
I saw you just walk down. He goes, Yeah, sorry, man,
I you know, I thought I didn't know. I forgot
what time it was. So yeah, that's fine, man, Like,
if you paid your ten bucks, it's cool. Oh, y
got our money, gave you the lebron Jains. It's your
(17:58):
favorite line, all of them?
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Yeah, single one, Yeah, every single line is my favorite.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
But yeah, so Aaron Rodgers, who knows could be could
be the Swan song or maybe he's back. By the way,

Speaker 1 (18:25):
My favorite thing, well it's not my favorite thing, but
when we work in broadcasting, we work in this audio medium.
We've added video and so you'll see jonas, you'll see
our hosts, and nobody's wearing suit and ties right and
behind the scenes, I mean Mark Scott his white sox
cap on, Patrick scott is seahawk sweatshirt on. It's pretty
(18:49):
pretty lax when somebody comes here in a suit, like
Tom Brady showed up at work. Yeah. The greatest thing
is because it's a two part play. The first part
is is somebody gets oh looking sharp, and then the following,
without fail, is I just came from a funeral.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
So that that's that's what it is. It's never.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
It's never like people always want to be like a
job interview, like you're leaving us, and it's like, no,
someone near to me died and so I but I
had to leave that. I had to leave the morning
to come here and edit Raptors next. So that's that
happened actually with the coworker here. Ye know, it does.
It happens all the time. I came in one day
with a slacks and a shirt like, oh, Dan's looking good. Yeah,
(19:33):
I got to bury someone four hours later, like this
is this is this is why I'm wearing this. Otherwise
I'd just be wearing a cap and shorts.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah, can you can you can you help me there?
Over on Dickens right now, you're gonna take it over.
It's like he is the hearse is over there.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Never guess like, oh, looking sharp, but where are you headed?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Just to the uh the cemetery two miles up the road.
That's where I'm headed.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
That's what happened.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
Yes, I'm like, hey, man, you look great because it
came from a funeral.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Yeah, that's the only reason why no one's no one
has left the wedding to go to work. Just doesn't happen.
You know what you take off for the wedding, you
go to the funeral, either before or after.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
It's truly what it is.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Yeah, so, and I think that can work in a
lot of lines of work as well.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Well, by the way, if you are on your way
to a funeral, make sure you have some tire Rack

have changed in the world of football, and one thing
has changed in a big way. Coming up later on,
we'll tell you whether this is a good idea or not.
It's yours right here at FSR.

here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
What what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Were interrupting our promo?
Speaker 6 (21:20):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.
Speaker 7 (21:25):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Let me put this into context.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Shut up.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Polly and Tony Fosco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts oherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Yee happening twenty twenty six in Jonas. I, honestly, as
an Ohio State fan, could not picked a worse morning
to get up and start a day, let alone an
entire new year after the debacle last night in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Hold on a second, you don't want to open up
with the Tony the Tiger sun shooting right on.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
That, See you later, Gary Danielson, the cheese at Citrus Bowl,
Arch Manning throwing shade at the Citrus Bowl. If I
would have said, it's fifty five degrees out, I don't know,
let's go skating on the pond, that would have been
a better decision than coming in today after what happened
last night. My resolution for twenty twenty six better planning,
(22:22):
Better planning. It's not that I thought Ohio State would win.
I just never took into account what would happen if
they lost, and it.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Was on full display last night.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
If not even for one second of the game, Miami
had the buck guys by the neck, and the Canes
are onto the College Football semi Finals and there will
not be a repeat champion in college football.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
It didn't it feel like, first of all, Happy New
Year to everybody listening who's making us a part of
their the first listen or second listener, whatever your first
moments of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
But didn't it feel like watching that game, it.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Was just kind of meant to be Miami's night, Like
everything just see like the like Tony dropping the ball
and bouncing back up to it, Like everything just seemed
to go the way of the Canes last night.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
And it just Ohio State looks flat. Man, they look flat.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
And that's been the story with whether we want to
get into teams with a buyer zero to five. But
it's a you know, it's a small sample size, so
what does that really mean. It just looked like Miami
was ready to go and Ohio State was flat and
couldn't really get it go out until the second half.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Carson Wentz turns into Marshawn Lynch and is like running
over guys for first.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Downs like this is like it was. It was. It
was a crazy night.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
And even when you thought maybe Ohio State had a
chance miss a field goal, which has been a buggaboo
of theirs, especially in games that they've they've lost previously,
the pressure got to Julian saying, but the most crazy
thing of all of all of this that I like.
My takeaway and looking at this is how much people
(23:57):
hate Ohio State and how much they act probably hate
the Big Ten more than the SEC. And the reason
that I say this is last night on social media
the sense that I got, and it may have been
Jonas because of the lead in. Remember the Big Ten
record of these bowl games. You know, Big ten A
six SEC had two wins and one of them was
(24:18):
in a game between the SEC and the SEC. That
was one of their wins heading into Iron. They didn't
count that as a loss though. They move that off
to the But think about this, think about the days
of when you were growing up watching football. I was
growing up watching football. So many of us were watching football.
It's not like the you was everyone's favorite, and when
(24:42):
you get to the NFL, everybody hated the Dallas Cowboys
except if you were a Cowboys fan. So last night
I felt this sense of everyone is on the side
of Michael Irvin and the U like as playmakers on
the sidelines, He's doing his thing ptas bell tast and
my first Don.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
And ray Lewis is standing there.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
I'm like, America is behind the Canes. I get it.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
If you want to be in a lum and you
want to go root on your team, I totally get it.
But when Michael Irvin's got a belt and he's whipping
a Gatorade bucket after the gate, like, what are we
doing here?
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Dude? Like, well, like what is happening?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Same shirt again, the you that like goes along the
arms and the same build. Like I honestly got to
kick out of it against Texas A and m not
so much last night as as I thought that maybe
I would obviously being facetious. But that's the point is
like people are like, yeah, do your thing, Michael Irvin.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Oh, do your thinking America's team? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Does everybody remember there was a T shirt that was
Catholic's first convicts.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Do you know who the convicts were?
Speaker 2 (25:49):
It was that team that Michael Irvin was putting belt
to ass on a Gatorade jug for Like, that was
the convicts in that side of it.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
And last night, in the final day of twenty twenty five,
it's what America that can rally behind Republicans and Democrats
coming together, the religions, uniting everyone of race, religion, and color,
coming behind the Miami Hurricanes as they knock off the
Big Ten's Ohio State buck guys.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
I mean, you know, maybe it was you know, a
little payback for what happened in two thousand and three.
You know, just the awful the the call that was
made that cost you know, Ken Dorsey and Company a
national chanceship and Willis mcgahe's knee turning into a wind
sock like that. You know, there was all that that
went on. But I just it no, like there can
(26:38):
never be a middle ground in college football. It is
and you mentioned politics, it's one side, like you either
really love something or you absolutely hate it, and that
was on full display last night.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Yeah, do you think Notre Dame fans were cheering for
Ohio State because I think that would be a tough
cheer for them. But with Miami's place in all of this,
because I think that's so then now Now part of
this conversation is because so much was made about Miami's
inclusion into the bracket, with Notre Dame obviously being left out.
But like, is there a sense now that Miami has
(27:14):
arrived because I've never bought into that. In the NCAA tournament,
when a final like a first four team makes a
run like VCU and it's like, you know, they showed
they belong And I'm like, well, no, the resume would
have showed that they they belong. But I'm trying to
decipher if it's different in college football because of how
small this landscape is.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Well, I have a buddy who's a Miami fan, and
he was like, man, it's crazy that they even had that,
there was any conversation about them not getting in, and
it's like, well, not really, Like it's not really crazy,
Like like what your resume is your resume and if
they had slip ups during the regular season, you should
be held accountable for that, and they did so once
(27:53):
you get in and it's a one, one game situation
and it's a it's a you know, win an advanced
situation like the NCAA tournament. Like, once you're in the door,
it opens up all sorts of opportunities, all sorts of potential.
It doesn't justify why you should be in just because
you made a run, just like I don't know that
it justifies why James Madison shouldn't have been in because
(28:14):
they got wiped out.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
That's very possible that could happen.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Look, Miami could get annihilated next game against Georgia like that,
that's really possible and really could happen. It's these one
you don't get multiple chances to play that game out.
If they're playing a best of five, Ohio State probably
wins three to one, like they'll win the next three games.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
And move on.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Yeah, I look at it, and I go once you
get an opportunity to go in. Anybody can play the lotto,
like nobody's got an advantage over somebody else. Miami played
the lotto, they got in, they won, Now they move on.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
I don't know if this justifies them getting in.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, and there's there's no way that because I look
at what went wrong with the game last night from
the Ohio State perspective, and the missfield goal was something,
but it wasn't nothing, but it wasn't everything. It was
what happened on the defensive line with Miami getting after
Julian Sand Ohio State's run. Game had moments and really
(29:10):
like the final score was twenty four to fourteen, It
was probably a twenty four to fourteen game, but as
it played out, it was closer. It was seventeen to fourteen.
You know, at a time Ohio State had a chance
to end up taking the lead, but when you look
at how Miami dominated the first half, I mean it
was domination and it was fourteen to nothing going into halftime,
dominated a time of possession, dominated the lone of scrimmage.
(29:32):
They even had a turnover, but they turnover was kind
of changed on the pick six that Miami ended up happening.
The point being is, I don't think that we look
at Miami now and say, wow, the ACC was something yeah, yeah,
like look what I mean.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
They did win that conference, right, I know, Okay.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Well know they lost in the championship game. Right.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
The point being is, when we're trying to decide for
these conference strength, now, this is a huge hit for
Ohio State because Ohio State's resume was put into question
on who they play and who they didn't play. Now,
a lot of that's not necessarily their fault their fault.
It's not their fault that James Franklin got fired by
Penn State and Drew Aller ends up suffering a season
(30:18):
ending injury and Penn State wasn't the preseason National Champion
Chip contender that you thought they were going to be.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
They ended up putting Tech.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
They having Texas on the schedule, Well, Texas maybe doesn't
live up to what their preseason billing was. That's really
not Ohio State's fault in this scenario. However, when you're
talking about conference supremacy, which is what we were talking
about with people from the Big Ten, including myself, trying
to make these bowl games mean something and say, see
the Big Ten's, you know, up to a certain point undefeated.
(30:47):
Now Nebraska got ran over by Utah and the Las
Vegas Bowl, Michigan lost to Texas, and now Ohio State
ends up falling to Miami. It wasn't a banner day
for the Big Ten on New Year's Eve. But when
we're trying to decipher on what conference is better, on
what diference is worse, it's tough to do it when
you're doing it in conference play because you have no
idea and who is good and who isn't good. So
the only thing that you have are the few non
(31:08):
conference opportunities. And as crazy as it is, the bowl
season or the playoffs, and the bowl season, we know
is ridiculous with all of the players that are sitting
out for certain schools or some that just aren't playing
the bowl game, some are going to the NFL Draft.
The College Football Playoff at least gives you these schools
at full strength. And so now the Big Ten doesn't
(31:28):
have a lot of breaking rights because one of their
powers now it's up to Indiana and Oregon to carry it.
But their main power and defending national champion did not
look the part last night, and that's not good for
the Big Ten.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah, I came out completely flat.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
As we mentioned, your guy, Ryan Day, one of the
all time great beards, and I saw a lot of
people last night making jokes about.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
He needs to go back and die is beard he needs.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
It's like, okay, like, let's stop focus on the negative stuff,
Like it wasn't that long ago. We opened up the
year and I can remember being on the air and
one of the big things going on on social media
with Ryan Day was or not he had a nipple
piercing because there was some picture that was posted of
him doing a halftime interview with with Jenny Taft and
it's like, oh no, that was just a I generated,
(32:13):
Like wait, what surprised?
Speaker 4 (32:15):
It was the barbell, right, And that's not like a.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Ring a ring, Like I don't think it'd be like
a you know, like a buck guy, like you know,
the horseshoe or championship ring last year exactly, but instead, no,
that was the that was the making the round. It's
like the first first weekend of college football, you know,
other than Week zero, and it's Texas Ohio State, and
we're focused on Ryan Day's nipple piercing. But your guy
Ryan Day did talk afterwards in dealing with the defeat
(32:41):
to the Miami Hurricanes, America's team postgame.
Speaker 8 (32:45):
You know, we obviously got a team of guys that
you know, have poured a lot into this program, and
you know, some some guys this will be their last
game as Buckeyes, and so it's gonna hurt and sting,
and and so you know, I just I wanted to
make sure that the still know how much we appreciate
everything they do and everything they've done for this program.
But it hurts right now, and it hurts for those guys,
(33:06):
and so you know, they put a lot of work
and time into this thing. So it's our job as
coaches to make sure that, you know, we figure out
ways to put them in a situation to be successful.
So at the end of the day, it's our responsibility
to do that, and we got to take a hard
look at that and figure out what it is that
we got to get done to get better.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
That was Ryan Day, Ohio State head coach.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Now it does put to test the theory be Michigan
or win a national title.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Yeah, I'll honestly like the only game that mattered this
year was November twenty ninth, twenty five.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
And ultimately the last win of their season.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Yes, yes, and I don't I don't know if that
I felt it played a role into the Indiana game.
I don't know if it played a role into this game.
I think that they were further along with it. I
do think that some people thought it's playoff time, just
turn it. They'll turn it on again and go on
a run.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Like we have.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
We have one playoff of evidence that Ohio State would
do this sort of thing, and that was last year.
But I think people just assumed maybe they would go
on a run again because it's playoff time and that's
what they do, and that never was a reality. In fact, Jonas,
when you talk about the Michigan win, the Michigan team
(34:19):
that they beat wasn't close to the previous Michigan teams
that had won the last four against Ohio State. Indiana
did a good job along the offensive and defensive lines
in the Big Ten title game, and Miami had an
edge like their defensive line last night was able to
get after Julian saying and at times keep the run
game and check the only reason I'm not trying to
(34:40):
make this Ohio State postgame. But the point is this,
They're losing Brian Hartline, co offensive coordinator and he's going
to South Florida as their head coach. And Brian Hartline's
the reason that Jeremiah Smith is there. He's the reason
that Marvin Harrison Junior went there, a Mecca Abuka and
all of these wide receivers. But sometimes you have to
win along the line of a scrimmage. And that's going
(35:02):
to be interesting to see how Ohio State carries on.
Are you still able to bring in the type of
talent at the receiver position with now your main guy
in Tampa or now are you going to be able
to try to pivot to try to strengthen those lines,
because that was the best part of the Urban Mayer run.
(35:23):
They were good upfront, and they ran the football and
they had some of the best defensive linemen that you'd
ever seen. That was the recipe, and I still think
that's the recipe in college football. So that's what's going
to be interesting to see from Ohio State from here
on out, because I think in the last two games,
it didn't matter if you had Carnell Taton, Jeremiah Smith,
and if Chris Henry Junior is coming in next year.
It's what you do up front that's going to be
(35:43):
the real big test for Ryan Day.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
And also, and let me defend you in this regard,
if there's people listening to go, oh, well, this is
Ohio State post game, I'm sorry, that's the story here.
Did anybody see Miami's first edition of their appearance in
the College Football Playoff this year?
Speaker 3 (35:59):
That was one of the worst I've ever seen in
my life.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Okay, Miami and Texas A and m set football back
all three phases at least thirty five years.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
That was awful. So yet nobody expected us.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
It's why they were as big of an underdog as
they were going into it. So the fact that the
defending national champions, who you would assume would have a
red ass, would come in trying to win another title
losing to Indiana and the way that they did, where
all these fluky things happened and Indiana pulled off the
miracle and what like.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yeah, that is the story. This was a big upset.
This isn't look if Oregon.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Loses to Texas Tech, like Texas Tech's a slight underdog
and we're you know, we can get into the Dan
Lanning comments and all that, but this was a big upset.
A lot of people didn't think Miami could do this.
Congratulations to them, but you do have to start to
look at what happens now because there was a lot
of conversation about kin Ohio State b Michigan. They did,
(36:57):
and now the conversation becomes a real one. You mentioned
Brian line leaving. You mentioned like it feels like they've
got their quarterback of the future, but if he doesn't
have the guys to throw to, then what I think
all that's pertinent?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Yeah, it's Miami had eighty five percent of America behind them.
You know, those four quarterfinal games that we have, the
three that we have coming up today, not one can
match the result of what last night was. Like, even
if if Alabama beats Indiana, like it's like We're like, oh,
of course it's Alabama, you know, right, or the Indiana wins.
It's all right, the Indiana's rolling. But to your point
(37:28):
about Texas Tech and Oregon, and the same thing with
the SEC rematch. If Ole miss beats Georgia in an upset,
you're like, wow, Lincoln Kiffin really maybe wasn't needed there,
But like, this is the this is the big one,
just because of Ohio State, because of the Big Ten,
because they're the defending national champions, and because, let's be honest,
(37:48):
everybody pretty much hates them and people are cheering with
Michael Irvan because of that.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Yeah, Belta as Dan all right, Bta. By the way,
I do what you remember? Uh you know Cole Wright Fox
Sports Radio line. Yeah right, yeah, buddy of mine. He
works in Chicago, does all the My son's a big
fan because he does all the postgame Cub stuff for
Marquee and Cole Wright posted on social media last night
a side by side of Carson Beck and Squints from
(38:17):
sand Lot.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
I swear god.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
God, it's like Squints on stilts. Sorry's most unbelievable comp
I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
By the way, this morning, speaking of the Cubs, the
comp for you would be if they're like, hey, Jonas,
we're gonna need you to come in after game six
and seven of the two thousand and three and I'll
see s So can you just do the morning show?
And yeah, just do you just break that down if
you can, we just need you on the mornings after
game six.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Like I said, it.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Would have been three hours of threatening Bartman like, are
you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Gladly?
Speaker 6 (38:52):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (38:52):
So when do I start? Please? Yeah, let me be
a part of it.

subdued one with Michael Irvin? Yeah, Like that's like we've
known Ray Lewis and his energy, but last night he
was like a silent pump compared to what Michael Irvin
was doing on the sidelines, and America was whooping it up.
Speaker 2 (39:39):

Happy New Year, Happy twenty twenty six. He is Jonas Knox.
I'm Dan Byer sitting in for Dan Patrick today. Here
Jonas every weekday morning on two Pros and a cup
of Joe, six o'clock Eastern, three Pacific. You can hear
me weekd afternoons here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark Ramsey's
hanging out with us. Patrick SWEEKA is here, Patrick, Wow,
(41:44):
if you don't mind, can I ask?
Speaker 4 (41:45):
Can I ask? How old you are? Are you cool?
Like you get all right? How old? Ayah?
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Thirty years old?
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Thirty years old? So that means Gary Danielson was calling
college football games six years before you were born. So
a thirty six year broadcasting career added on to a
college and NFL quarterbacking career. Well, that came to an
end yesterday, Jonas. I don't know if he saw it
on the Sun Bowl. The Arizona State Duke game was
(42:14):
kind of overshadowed. Great game, Duke ends up winning, but
it's Gary Danielson's last broadcast. In his last broadcast, he's
surrounded by his friends, his colleague Brad Nessler, all the
crew around him on CBS. And this is how they
sent Gary Danielson off after thirty six years of broadcasting football.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
And everybody else.
Speaker 4 (42:38):
I wanted everybody.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
Else in this shot saying goodbye, it's been team all
the way.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
Everything we've done, great camera crew. Yes, we're all wearing
Gary stickers.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
There's a trikes you guys.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
As Verne would have said, appreciate it all.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir, we are going to have a.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
Great time tonight.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
So look at those guys. How are we gonna get
off there?
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Listen?
Speaker 3 (43:02):
One more thing.
Speaker 4 (43:03):
It's sometimes you can say, how do you get off?
This guy right.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Here killing her.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
And it's a wide shot of like twelve people and
you see a lady with.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
The countdown five four.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
We know it in this business and may not have
been Listen, we're gonna have our own what we call
heartbreak coming up in just a little bit. But Gary Danielson,
after thirty six years of broadcasting, is like, I don't
care stop sign.
Speaker 4 (43:42):
We're going right through it.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
So that is how Gary Danielson had this sign off
after thirty six years at CBS.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
I mean, when you think of Gary Danielson, what do
you think of I think of the CBS theme music, Yes,
I think of see.
Speaker 4 (44:00):
Football, I think of everything.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
Yes, I felt bad for him, like the last two
years because he used to be like, we're live in Tusca,
LUSA alongside Carrie Daniels and on Brad Neesler. It's LSU
and Alabama and now they're like live from Minneapolis, Perdu
in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Yeah, CP, we're gonna roll the boat.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Gary, Like, hey, we're gonna give you two years of
Big ten mediocre football on your way out. Not only that,
we're gonna cut off your goodbye speech. And I thought,
what about a CBS. I don't know, like ran other
broadcasts like memorable moments. Remember Super Bowl thirty two John
Elway finally beats the Packers or finally wins the Super
(44:43):
Bowl by beating the Packers, and I forget Pat Bowling
on the stage, the late Broncos owner about to give
the Lombardi Trophy to one John Elway.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
Whoa be Like, you know, I.
Speaker 8 (44:59):
Want to express my appreciation all my fans, my coaching staff,
and all my organization.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
But there's one thing I want to say here tonight.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
It's only four words.
Speaker 9 (45:14):
This one's joined hosts Party and Burdcrutcher along with Jason Alban,
Lady Wilson's, Sally Zimmerman, and more country's biggest names.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
One massive night fist ones for Jason Albin.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Mock out about it. I felt really bad, but it's
so so hilarious. It's unfortunate, man, live TV, it does
and everybody's there, like the cruise there you don't get
to see the crew a lot, and it's the last time.
(45:52):
It's not like they can like then do it on
the other side where the local news is.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
So. Do you remember when Kevin Durant won m VP?
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Yeah, of course I do.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
But if it was on CBS, this is probably what
it would have sounded like.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
When something good happens to you.
Speaker 9 (46:09):
I don't know about you, guys, but I tend to
look back to what brought me here. You made us believe,
We kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs,
food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made
sure we ate. We want to sleep hungry. You sacrifice
for us.
Speaker 3 (46:26):
Joan Howard along with Jason Alvin, Your country's the biggest scene.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
Kevin Durant's mom the real MVP. Oh my god, it is.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Yeah, it is unfortunate, you know, to send out a
legend with a with a bag of craft. I feel
like Gary Danielson got did you know?
Speaker 4 (46:50):
Did you know that?
Speaker 1 (46:52):
I mean he was with Brad Nessler for like the
last decade. And I hate to say because you can't
forge it Verny, but like I did like associated. I'm
like like I got used to Nessler and Danielson, you know,
like during that time.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
So yeah, you asked me like, uh, you know, whether
I whether or not I liked you know, Vern better,
and I said maybe, yes, sure.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
Oh man, uncle Vern one of the greatest. That was
great that they included him as well, like in in
the clips. You obviously wasn't in the booth, but Gary
Danielson send off, it just was unfortunate. I felt so
bad because when you actually see the video and I'll
end up retweeting it. Gad Jonah said the Jonahs Knocks.
(47:38):
You can find me at dan Byer on Fox. You
see the girl and she's counting down with her hand
and I know what that means. Three two, And yeah,
there were a go yes. But it did end like
kind of in a close spot for Gary, uh, but
just too bad ahead end out.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
It's it's like you know when they try and uh,
you know, wrap somebody up at the Oscars, they just
start playing the song and the guys looking around go
hold on a second biggest moment in my career, and
I got some jackass telling me, hey, buddy, we got
to get to uh, we gotta get to the next speech.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
Oh, you're gonna give the one direction.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
You had that bad comedy bit to open up the show.
And I'm sitting here having to wrap up my speech
to give a shout out to my deceased loved ones.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Disgusting. You know it's not though hour three and it's
next
