Speaker 2 (00:13):
Well, then I feel great as well. Your seat's here,
Marv's here, Paulie's here. Paulie, I'd like to know the
shirt you decided not to wear. That looks like it's
uh Erkle would have worn something like that, but he
had suspenders his shirt. How would you describgeous?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
It's kind of a nit summer sweater shirt, combo hybrid.
I love this shirt.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
It pops. Okay, I'm glad you do. Yes, Tom, I
like it.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
It's like a tennis shirt. It looks like, you know,
Matt's Vland or a Bord or something that's a very
Tennessee kind of wow.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Thank you, Okay, Marvin.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
I like his shirt also. It feels like a date
night shirt. He's going somewhere nice tonight with miss Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, yeah, Pauline, Provincetown.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Okay, I see where you're going there. Nod to that.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I feel that's a lovely date spot. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
I feel like a guy. I look like a guy
who may own a boat, and I don't want to
own a boat, but i'd love to look like I
own a boat.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
But I have a boat, and I wouldn't wear that shirt.
You should consider it.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
No, not actually not in Maine, Maine.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
No, yeah, I don't think this would go over well.
Men or men? Yes, alrighty getting started here, see Todd,
I picked on somebody else other than yeah, we'll see

little bit of time talking about the Colts situation yesterday.
They have decided to go with Daniel Jones as the
starter instead of Anthony Richardson. Here is the Colts head
(02:49):
coach Shane Steiken with the question about Daniel Jones, Why.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Do you think you all can win with Daniel when
his career record isn't good in the play football for
the Giants it wasn't good.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Well, I think that he's proven that he's played good
football in that twenty twenty two season. You know, he
had a hell of a year that year. I think
that was the highest completion rate in Giants franchise history
that season. So he's proven to do it. I know
he's had his ups and downs, but everyone's journey's different.
And feel confident in his abilities.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
You better. Your job's probably, you know, hanging in the
balance there. But this is what we do. Anthony Richardson
didn't say, Hey, I'm the fourth best player in the draft.
Chris Ballard's the GM. Why is it the player is
always the bust, not the GM or the coach. Anthony
(03:42):
Richardson came in as a raw talent and he was
a project. But I think every quarterback who comes into
the NFL is a project of swards. It's just varying degrees.
Anthony Richardson was twenty years of age. He's still he's
younger than quite a few quarters. He's younger than shardor
sanders Is. He's younger than you know, all these other rookies,
(04:06):
Jackson Dart of the Giants. It's going to take time.
I just don't think organizations, coaching staffs have that ability
to They don't have time on their sides. Because everybody
seems to look and go, why can't we find our
Jaden Daniels. Why can't we find our bow knicks, Why
can't we find our Drake May. Therefore, we're not very patient.
(04:29):
And the Colts, you got a coaching staff that their
job's probably hang in the balance and they're probably going
to be taking the safe way with Daniel Jones. Is
Daniel Jones a better quarterback than Anthony Richardson? The answer
is yes. Does Anthony Richardson have a higher ceiling? Yes,
I believe he does. But if you look at how
he's played in the first two years, these are all
(04:51):
the things that the scouts pointed out that he doesn't
do well. Footwork is terrible, very very inconsistent with his
he has one speed, he throws it really hard, he's
going to take chances, he gets injured, and he took
himself out of a game. So those are the negatives there.
Now the positives. You know, you run a four four
(05:13):
four three at the combine and you can throw it
probably eighty er. I mean, these are all great attributes.
You still have to understand how to play the game.
When you go to the line of scrimmage. How quickly
do you get out of the huddle. Now this is
you know from my source, because I said will you
go back and look at your notes on Anthony Richardson,
And that's what he talked about. He thought that it
(05:34):
was a high risk draft pick, not a first round
or second round grade. I look at Jalen Milroe who's
with Seattle, and I think he's got a brighter future
than Anthony Richardson because Jalen Milroe was a third round
draft pick, and he was a guy who can run
and throw and was a better thrower of the football
(05:55):
when he was at Alabama. In fact, I think underrated
there at great talent, similar size, speed, But you know
here he's a guy who's a third round draft pick.
He will get a chance to sit and he might
be playing sooner than later. Sam Darnold's the starter, but
that's basically a one year deal. They think highly of
(06:16):
Jaln Milroe and he might get that opportunity, but he
wasn't the fourth pick. Overall. Anthony Richardson and his agent
probably are going do we try to get out of
this situation? But then what is the trade value? Who
wants Anthony Richardson with what you've seen. You're gonna take
him on potential. But the problem I still have is,
(06:39):
you know, Trey Lance is not the guy who drafted
Trey Lance. Zack Wilson didn't draft Zack Wilson. It's the
people in the front office. Zack Wilson played one really
good season, Trey Lance one really good season. It's not enough.
We've talked about this. You've got to have at least
thirty starts. Then you're ready or you're more ready. But
(07:04):
you know, the bottom line is they're all projects. Jackson
Dart Jackson Dart I think is going to be the
starter this year with the Giants at some point. He's
really good and during the season I said he had
a first round grade and he goes late first round
to the Giants. But we've seen quarterbacks taken high, we've
seen them taken low. We've seen them with the last
(07:25):
pick in the draft. You must be able to play
the position and understand the position. It is not talent.
There's certain sports where talent can take over. You can
go out there and be a basketball player and not
really know how to play basketball, but you can still play.
You can be in the game. You can actually be
really good because you have talent. And Anthony Richardson has talent,
(07:49):
but that will only get you so far. I mean,
if you look at the list of great quarterbacks, it's
not necessarily athleticism. It is how do I lead, How
to get out of the huddle, change the play at
the line of scrimmage, how do I process what's going on? Hey,
I'm gonna check down? Do I protect the football? Do
I go, you know, down for a sack instead of
(08:11):
trying to make something. I mean, these are all the
things that you just check. You gotta do all these
things if you have any chance of being successful. But
I feel bad for Anthony Richardson because he didn't draft
him and he's a project. He's still raw. He's gonna
be one of those guys. And we're seeing this now
more and more. And Daniel Jones is one of those
(08:32):
guys that you get that second chance. Gino Smith, you
get that second chance. Sam Darnold, you get a second chance.
That's what happens now that all of a sudden it's
two years and we move on, and then you'll bring
in somebody else, because this is what you ultimately hear
by that quarterback class for next year is great already
(08:53):
thinking all right, what are we gonna do next year?
Who are we gonna draft next year. I mean, the
Browns going to go through this situation. You know, Joe
Flacco is not the starter next year? Are they gonna
give Shadoor Sanders and Dylan Gabriel an opportunity to prove
if they can be a starter. Well, they get this
year and then maybe next year. But the Browns have
(09:14):
two first round draft picks the Rams. The Rams will
probably move on from Matthew Stafford after this year. Is
Stetson Bennett going to be the heir apparent?
Speaker 1 (09:23):
There?
Speaker 2 (09:24):
They have two first round draft picks. It's so enticing
to go that guy. I see what we have here,
But that guy, he's got potential. Man, look at him.
He's carving up sec defenses. We see this every single year.
But Anthony Richardson, we can label him a bust or
at least potentially a bust. But the pick is the
(09:48):
bust Mitchell Trubisky, the pick is the bust Trey Lance.
Maybe they weren't ready to play, and we've seen that,
don't I keep thinking Trey Lance, maybe he can still play,
but what's he on his third team now? He might
(10:08):
not be able to be a starter in the league.
But then there are other guys that you go, Jacoby
Brissett knows how to play the game. He might not
be high end, but why is it Jacoby Brissett or
Teddy Bridgewater can play better than somebody who is as
talented as Anthony Richardson or Joe Flacco. I can outrun him.
(10:32):
We're about the same age. But he's just out there playing.
Here's Joe talking about being a forty year old quarterback.
Speaker 7 (10:43):
It's always one of those things that, like I think,
as a football player, you just want to play.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
But I think you got to.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
Give a lot of credit to obviously Tom for anybody
even thinking about doing it. Obviously there was guys before
you have you know, Warren Moon and I talked about
it a couple weeks. You have any Testaverity and other
guys have done it. But I mean, he pushed the
boundaries like he did in absolutely everything. No surprise that
he did it in that way as well. But you know,
(11:10):
it's I don't think it's necessarily something that I actively
think about until people kind of remind me with texts
and things like that, and you guys ask me about it.
I don't think it's a huge deal right now, but
I'm sure when I look back on it, it'll be
pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, it doesn't make sense right because the position has evolved.
Now you don't have to be six or five stationary
with a rocket for an arm. Now we kind of
it's open to interpretation, but it still comes back to
can you play the position? And I like an Anthony
Richardson too. It's a piece of property and it overlooks
(11:48):
the water, and man, that looks gorgeous. I wonder what
we could build on that piece of property. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco,
he's just a you know, maybe a dominium and moves
as fast as a condominium, you know, two bedroom condo.
There's our guy. I mean, you can have Brady who
(12:09):
as a mansion, or John Elway or those guys Anthony
Richardson and some of these younger quarterbacks. It's just a
piece of property that has a great view or the
potential for something really nice. But can you play the position?
And when I talked to my source last night, he
went over his notes and I just kept going check, check, check,
(12:31):
and he said, sometimes we'll fall in love with one
or two plays and we go, oh my goodness, did
you see that? And there is a play that Anthony
Richardson has. I think it's a sixty yard pass. It's gorgeous,
It's unbelievable. It's like when Zach Wilson had his pro
day and he did the let me turn and go
left and throw right and do the Mahomes thing. Oh
(12:52):
my god, you see that. I go that doesn't mean anything.
I mean, it's nice, but it doesn't mean It's like
the guy in your back who's just he's unbelievable, and
then he gets into a structured game and he can't play.
And that's what happens. We fall in love with a
highlight or two. We're so highlight driven, and it comes
(13:13):
down to every single day, every single game, all of
those moments.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Yeah, pulling and the Colts, going back to when Anthony
Richardson was a rookie, ignored everything you would do with
a rookie who's a project. They announced him as the
starter for week one. Halfway through training camp on August fifteenth,
they had Gardner Minshew, they could let Minshew handle the
first half of the season and handed it off to
Richardson literally, and they didn't, and he got hurt in
(13:40):
Games two and three, and that curtailed him. And the
other thing is, you know, Patrick Mahomes sat his rookie year,
Mahomes because they thought of him as a project, and
that guy had like seventy touchdowns in college passing.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, he came in as a gunslinger. They weren't quite sure.
You know, you're gonna kind of have to reel him
in a little bit there. He wants to be like
Farv Well, he understands how to play the game. He
can throw for fifty touchdowns or he can throw for
twenty five. But the bottom line is he's going to
win games. His stats last year weren't great. Would they
(14:16):
lose one game? One game in the regular season when
he threw for fifty touchdowns? They lost four games. It's
understanding how to win a game? What do I need
to do today? What do I need to do this quarter?
What do I need to do in the final two minutes?
How many of those quarterbacks? How many times do we
say this with Tom Brady three minutes to go, two
(14:36):
minutes ago, he's got the ball. Oh boy, you're gonna lose.
It just happened. Why he just knew how to win
a game. John Elway two minutes ago, Damn, he's got
the ball. We're gonna lose. The question is how are
we Hey, let's guess how we're going to lose. You
can have great athleticism, great talent, but you have to
(14:58):
have a mind for the game. But you also have
to have a coaching staff that doesn't have turnover. That
you have the same offensive coordinator, you know, the same
coach that is so important and underrated. Yeah, Paulie I
went back.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
And looked at Anthony Richardson's draft profile by Lancier Line
of NFL dot com, and the player comp is Cam Newton.
But he wraps up by saying, imagine if Cam Newton
didn't do anything in college. Really, Cam Newton had all
the production and won and had everything and passed and ran.
Anthony Richardson got benched his last year for another player.
And they said, it's got tons of upside, but it's
(15:34):
gonna be one of the bigger risks if someone takes
him in the first round.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
That was said before the draft. Yeah, and you would
watch a game, there'd be times where you couldn't take
your eyes off of him, and then there'd be other
times when you're watching and nothing stood out. But is
he going to play this year. I think with the
coaching staff probably coaching for their jobs, he's probably going
to have to find a job elsewhere to play. But
(15:58):
he's got two years left on his contract. All right,
we'll take a break. We'll come up with the poll
question here. By the way, three days until college football
including case State in Iowa State in Dublin. Talk about
that coming up. And it's arch and it's Archie and
they're not on the same page. We'll have that for
you coming up.

Buyer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast and wherever you

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Let's come up with the pole question for hour one.
College football starts on Saturday, K State Iowa State in Dublin.
There's a lot of other games, but that's the marque one,
and there's a soccer feel, almost like a Premier League
feel when you're walking to that game. You're walking by
all the pubs in the neighborhood. We were there for
Navy and Notre Dame. Great atmosphere and there's no shortage
(17:31):
of fun and beverages when you're in Dublin and k
State Iowa State. That should be fun, Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
And they've been doing this College Football Classic for ten
years on and off, more on and off, and it's
like a pilgrimage for college football fans. They like to
travel anyway, if you're at Iowa State or Kansas State,
this is a once in a lifetime trip. Any other
marquee matchups, I wouldn't use the word marquee fun niche
matchups is. That's what the speaking is all about alright.
(18:00):
I got Idaho State at UNLV Presno Kansas, that legendary rivalry,
Sam Houston, Western Kentucky, your neck of.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
The Woods, the Hilltompers yep.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
And great uniforms, great helmets. And then the late night
game Stanford at Hawaii. Hawaii's getting a new football stadium.
They just got funding.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Oh nice. Yeah the bows yep, yeah, the bows. That'll
be uh So. Andrew luck is the GM of the
Stanford football program. Yes, I saw where CJ. Carr was
named Notre Dame starting quarterback and his grandfather is Lloyd Carr,
who was the Michigan head coach, and CJ. Carr was
(18:46):
recruited by Michigan and Michigan State. Now he's the starting
quarterback at Notre Dame. But Michigan and Notre Dame don't
play each other. I think they paused that rivalry. Yes,
I don't know for how long, but Notre Dame said
that they had had to concentrate on their acc schedule.
Speaker 10 (19:04):
Is there too much fun? That game every year was
just too good. We just really need to stop that.
It's too much fun.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I hate that they don't play anymore, or they put
it on hold. Here. But when you say, yeah, we gotta,
we gotta focus on Wake Forest here and we gotta
we got to play our acc schedule, Yeah, Pauli. Yeah. CJ.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Carr's father also played at Michigan. We talked about this
hundred times about scheduling with college football. We wouldn't allow
this to happen.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
We ran it.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
We wouldn't allow Michigan in Notre Dame to take a
decade off.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, it's bad for such. But that's what I'm wondering
about with baseball and the commissioner talking about realignment here
because there's certain rivalries. The Giants and the Dodgers always
have to play against one another. But the commissioner is saying,
maybe we don't have an American league in a National League. Uh,
maybe we just look at Territorial where the Mets and
(19:58):
the Yankees are in the same division, and maybe the
Phillies and the Red Sox are in that as well.
But that's a must have now And they're also talking,
you know, Cubs and the Cardinals, that's a must have.
Do you have Seattle and San Francisco and Oakland and
then who else in there? And then if you're going
to add for this is what's being loosely discussed with
(20:21):
baseball Portland, Nashville, Charlotte and Montreal. That's what Baseball's looking
at those locations potential. Now, I don't know if that's
relocation or that's expansion, but you have the A's eventually
moving to Las Vegas. But if you have four divisions,
(20:42):
eight teams, then you're trying to figure out what's it
going to look like. But I do think Baseball they
don't accidentally float this out. The Commissioner doesn't go on
the mothership and start talking about the potential to basically
turn the NBA Baseball into the NBA and NHL because
that's what they have. They have the geographical rivalries there,
(21:05):
and maybe that's where baseball is headed. And we know
this commissioner is not afraid with everything he's come up with,
including that stupid start on second base and the tenth inning,
but everything else I'm okay with. I don't want to
yesteryear is yesteryear. It's not happening. The good old days
are not happening. You either embrace or you move on
(21:27):
to another sport, and I choose to embrace. Ish it's
kind of a loose hug. You know, it's like when
you hug your grandmother. It's not like you hug your wife.
It's like, I Hi, grandma too, Hi honey, I'm home. Yeah, PAULI.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
I can't see a lot of relocation except for one team,
Tampa Bay. Bad attendance. They've had a long time to
get it right. I could see them running up to
Nashville real quick.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
But it does feel like, you know, you could put
Portland in with Seattle, San Francisco and Oakland, but you
gotta have the Dodgers and Giants, the Mets in Yankees
rivalry would continue, and the Red Sox if they're in
the same division. But you know, does Montreal in Toronto?
Are they in the same division? But there's I think
(22:13):
there's great potential there. We may not like it. We
always like the American League versus the National League. But
maybe it's just these are the geographical divisions here, and
then it'll be East Coast versus West Coast for the
World Series. Yes, ton, how would.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Thing you have to put the Phillies and Pirates in
the same division, which is kind of strange that they
are ones in the central, ones in the East. They're
in the same state yet not in the same division.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Yeah, but I remember when the Reds were in the
National League West growing up, and I go, I, you know,
I wasn't very good in school, but I knew that
Cincinnati and Los Angeles one's in the Midwest and one's
the West Coast.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
And yeah, that's like when I was a kid and
I found out the Cowboys were in the NFC East.
That's stupid. What are they doing in the NFC against Washington,
New York and Philadelphia. But now if they moved out
of the NFC East, I'm like, this isn't right. What
are they doing in NFC West.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, Paulie, how about being a kid now USC and
Usail area in the Big ten, which isn't ten. It's
many more teams than ten. And he's totally confusing if you're.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Like eight, Uh see, what's pole question for the first hour. Well,
we could.
Speaker 10 (23:25):
Develop one off of those regional robberies. Let's see Marvin
sent this one in. Pick one to make the Pro
Bowl this season aka the Sam Darnold Award, Daniel Jones,
Justin Fields, Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Okay, pick one to
make the Pro Bowl this season, Daniel Jones, Justin Fields,
(23:49):
Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
And you can't go none of the above, correct.
Speaker 10 (23:55):
Okay, you have to pick one of them to make
the Pro Bowl this season.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
I'm gonna go with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 10 (24:03):
Wow, Daniel Jones amaya.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Yeah, I'm gonna go Daniel Jones. Joe Flacco will play.
I don't know if he's gonna play the whole season.
It seems counterproductive to the Browns if you're trying to
develop a quarterback or see if you have a quarterback
and waiting and Dylan Gabriel should door Sanders Justin Fields
(24:26):
the reviews of not being good at all. Here is
the Jets head coach Aaron Glenn on Justin Fields and
his critics.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Obviously, it's very much a passing league. Is there any
concern about your ability.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
To go down fields?
Speaker 2 (24:40):
And whynot say the passing league isn't it?
Speaker 10 (24:42):
Passion is not?
Speaker 5 (24:44):
Dennis Petina want a Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (24:46):
What were they an passing twenty nine? Yeah? Gold an
running first defense?
Speaker 5 (24:52):
Should if probably still well.
Speaker 11 (24:54):
We talked about offense and then everything is falling down
because we throw six as you know. Then then then
I mean he's Johnny United when we throw four passes,
you know, so it bothers me and I laugh at
it quite a bit. But the thing is, I understand
it because that's just that's the noise that happens on
(25:14):
the outside.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
That's how guys can't really listen to.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
All Right, that's fine, He's got his guys back. It
is preseason. Justin Fields is another guy maybe played too
much too early and was labeled to bust and now
trying to make it with the Jets. And he's just
not a great passer. He has the talent, he's just
not a great passer consistent enough. Yes, Mark, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Aaron Glenn was alluding to the Eagles about their running game.
The only issue is that the Jets don't have Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
That's true.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
It's like, oh, their first and running house. It's nice
to you have, but what did the Jets have?
Speaker 2 (25:52):
And you have an unbelievable offensive line, and you have
an unbelievable de offensive line, and you have great wide
receivers and we have a great GM and your quarterback's
pretty good as well. Probably not apples to apples there, coach, Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
But if you look at two guys who are run
first guys coming out of college, Justin Fields and Jalen Hurts.
The difference is Justin Fields went to the Bears that
usually mismanaged quarterbacks, and Jalen Hurts went to the Eagles
and surrounded him with talent on both sides of the line.
And he's a guy who is known for running way
more than passing, even more so than Fields. So if
(26:27):
you look at those guys coming out of college, the
difference in their careers where they went, I completely believe.
I think if Justin Fields was drafted with a fifteenth
pick of the Eagles, he'd be a very good quarterback
right now.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
And you know, I would say that if Jalen Hurts
was drafted by the Bears, he might not be He
wouldn't be starting, I don't think, because you know the
pressure they would put on him, you got to surround him.
I mean, I think he is a You know, we
talk about some of these great quarterbacks, but we don't
always agnowmled the talent around them. I mean Peyton Manning,
(27:03):
how many guys on his offense went to the Hall
of Fame, his receivers, his running back, even the running
back before Edge Marshall Falk went to the Hall of Fame.
Having those guys, you know, you just especially if you're
a rookie. That's what was amazing about Elway. Elie didn't
have any any guy, any skilled player that went to
(27:27):
the Hall of Fame except for well, Shannon Sharp was
a Bronco, but he had I think Gary Zimmerman was
the only offensive player made a Pro Bowl, but they
asked him to win these games. Defense was great, the
Orange Crush, you know Brady with what he did. I
(27:48):
mean we could look at Edelman and say man borderline
Hall of Famer. I mean, Gronk had a back issue
coming out. It wasn't like that. I mean, they had
Troy Brown. They didn't have great players. Corey Dillon was
a really good running back, but you know he was
great as a Bengal and that's what's amazing. But that's
(28:09):
where understanding how you have a quarterback who puts you
in the right position and makes you better. And Jalen Hurts.
They put Jalen Hurts in a situation with all that
talent that makes him better. And I give him credit.
He doesn't try to do too much. He's not going
to be fifty touchdowns, not even going to be forty touchdowns.
But if you have a nice kind of a combination
(28:34):
there of passing touchdowns and running touchdowns, that's all you
need with that team, That's all you need. Yeah, Paul I.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Went back and looked at Hurt's rookie year with the Eagles.
He didn't start a game till Week fourteen. They gave
him the reins on week fourteen. He finished the season
really well, and he said that's it, you're a guy
next year, and he was pretty good and then became great.
Speaker 10 (28:54):
Yeah, Jalen Hurts, even the year they won the Super
Bowl was barely the guy. He was barely He's never
been the guy in Philadelphia. He's begrudgingly been the starter,
but there's almost always been the like, Well, I don't
know though, I mean, is he really the guy here?
It feels like week to week he's still holding.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
On to his job. Well, I don't think anymore about it.
I think that back then when he was drafted, it
was the okay, nice backup for Carson Wentz. Now I
think he's graduated. You know, we get caught up in
these lists and you know, it's like see a top five,
Is he a top ten? All I know is he
(29:32):
wins games then, I mean he could have been the
Super Bowl MVP. In the one they lost. He did
have the one fumble, but that was he played great,
played Mahomes, he played great. And when you get these
guys who step up in a big game. Regular season
is for fantasy, it's for fun. The postseason that's for legacies, reputation,
(29:57):
hall of famers. What you do you don't do. I
mean we're talking about Philip Rivers. Is he a Hall
of Famer? And you know that The knock is he
didn't do anything in the postseason. Tom Brady's the greatest
of all time, not by regular season stats, but what
he did in the postseason. We argue Aaron Rodgers' spot
(30:17):
or Drew Brees's spot. They both won a super Bowl,
whereas Matt Ryan went to a super Bowl but didn't win.
That's where your legacy is what you do in the postseason.
Eli Manning would not be going to the Hall of
Fame if he did not win those two super Bowls
because he was an average quarterback, but above average when
(30:38):
he needed to be. In those postseason runs. He only
had two postseason runs and they won the Super Bowl.
But that's all you need. Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner got benched,
he was a backup to Eli and then he goes
to Arizona and leads them to the super Bowl. That's
why he's a Hall of Famer. Not because of what
(30:59):
he did in Saint Louis. That wasn't enough. It's you
took Arizona to the Super Bowl and nearly won it. Yeah, Poe,
imagine if Matthew Stafford either stays with the Lions and
just does what he did before, or went to a
franchise where he didn't get a title. What are we
talking about here?
Speaker 4 (31:17):
A guy was seventy thousand yards and one Pro Bowl
and you wouldn't even I don't know if you'd consider
him for the Hall of Fame with one Pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
He has such a great reputation in football circles. But
you're right, he's not decorated. But you know, winning that
Super Bowl made him a Hall of Famer. His his
numbers compared to Russell Wilson. I mean russ was a
better regular season quarterback. He went to ten Pro Bowls, right,
(31:50):
I mean he is touchdown to interception ratio. Now, granted
he played on a better team, but I mean, you
you play the cards you're dealt here. And Stafford was
always looked at as oh man, if he'd only get
on a good team. He is tough, you know. He'd
always put up big passing yard, you know, five thousand
(32:12):
yards and then that was it. You never heard from
him postseason wise.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Yea, if Matthew Stafford loses that Super Bowl, does he
go to the Hall of Fame with what we know now?
Long pause?
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Well, because I don't know what the voters, I can
say no, but the voters might go, are you kidding me?
X number of starts and yeah, you compare him with
the players in his era. That's what a Hall of
Fame voter told me. He said, you know, we can
look at this guy versus Johnny Unitis or Bard Starr
(32:49):
and they dominate them. But you have to look at
what you do in your era and then you compare. Ye.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
I have a question about another quarterback compared to Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
How about we hold that love it, hold that until
after the break shirt and look at that shirt. You
can see it and it's full glory on peacock and
if you'd like to give us a comment, how would
you describe Paulie's shirt? I liken to rkle with his
suspenders even those those aren't suspenders, they're built in Oh yes,
(33:25):
they look like Yes.
Speaker 10 (33:26):
It's a similar shirt to what you wore in Celebrity
Family Feud. Just a different color, same style, same same
knit pattern and collar.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Correct and big call Seaton because I think I bought
them at the same store Knit Shirts dot Com.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
I think, do you have a stylist.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, it's me unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (33:43):

the day.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Check this out.
Speaker 5 (34:09):
Two one here to Belgium.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Pet swung on a driven deep to right. I'm going back, mangum,
he's on the track.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Look it up.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
It's out of here.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
Two run homer Tody Bellinger his second homer tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
It's twelve to New York. That is the eighth home
run hit by the Yankees. Bran the sixth inn Yankees
hit nine home runs in the game, fourth time in
baseball history a team has hit at least nine home runs.
Two of them have been by the Yankees this season.
I believe, I believe the Yankee manager Aaron Boone has
(34:46):
been involved in three of the four. That's courtesy of
the Yankees Radio Network. And I was talking about gin
Carlos Stanton yesterday. If he hits five hundred home runs,
is he a Hall of Famer? He hit two home
runs last night, so I think he's at four hundred
and forty three. I don't know if he'd be a
Hall of Famer, does have an MVP, And I don't
(35:10):
know five hundred I don't know what if that means anything.
I'm guessing three thousand hits is still a big deal.
But you know, it feels like batting average. Isn't it
as important as it once was. I don't know if, like,
can you get in because of your on base percentage
and your slugging percentage but not your batting average or
(35:31):
your home run total. I'm just I'm I'm don't know
what you're factoring in now when it comes to hitting
in Major League Baseball Because I've been told this by
a former manager. I said, what would Tony Gwinn be
doing now? He said, he'd probably be a guy hitting
twenty five or thirty home runs, or Wade Boggs or
Rod carew you know each yo oh would be asked
(35:54):
to probably hit home runs. I go, no, Lean, it
just seemed in And once again, analytics sometimes gets a
cloud's judgment. I think, if you get on first base
or you don't and you strike out, getting on first
base is better. But you know, I'd look at the
analytics and they'll go, well, you know it's all about
(36:15):
you know how many pitches you take and slugging percentage
and nope, you know on base percentage, but you got
on base. Because if you don't get on base, you
can't score. If you can't score, you can't win. I
would hope that there was a place for Tony Gwynn
to bat three sixty three yes time.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Where would your factor in compiling with the number five
hundred home runs? Because to me, that's Hall of fame.
Would you have to hit fifty home runs like ten
straight seasons as opposed to well, because you played eighteen
nineteen years and you ended up with a total of
five hundred home runs.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Well, how many times play? Yeah, but how many guys
play and have five hundred home runs and didn't play
less than seventeen eighteen years? Is it compiling because you
played eighteen years?
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Seems like five hundred home runs should be enough to
get in the Hall of Fame, But four ninety nine
no way?
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Okay, yeah, Paul, do you think maybe five hundred holl
runs now means something again because we're leaning towards these
guys are clean or at least there's a testing process.
So the past ten years feels cleaner than ninety eight
to twenty ten, and it may be respected again.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Baby, Yeah, I just I don't know what matters anymore
with analytics in the Hall of Fame. You know, baseball wise,
nobody's gonna have three hundred wins or three thousand strikeouts. Again,
that's not gonna happen. So what are you factoring in
when it comes to a Hall of Famer in baseball?
Their whip You can be nine and eight and win
(37:49):
a cy young You're not winning twenty games anymore.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yeah, Paulling Quick Baseball quiz fewest games to five hundred
career home runs I'll tell you the number, not the player.
Sixteen and thirty nine career games to get to five
hundred home runs. He did it at age thirty five,
almost thirty six. Babe Ruth, Babe Ruth a second. Alex
(38:16):
rodyam He's third. M Yes, martn Griffy. Griffy is eighth.
Over No, no, we're at clapping up. Barry Bonds, by
the way, is fourteenth. Took him a while.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Barrel well, yeah, you know, took him while to find
the clear in the cream.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
A couple more. Albert Poohols is seven. Will he Mays
is nine, Jim Tomy is ten. Man he is eleven.
Quickest to five hundred home runs is Mark McGuire.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Mark mcgire, Mike McGuire, Sammy Sosa rob okay oh ya.
Start of the Day brought to you by panadi America,
the official trading card said The Dan Patrick Show, PAULI
has a quick quarterback quiz.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
This is from the people who brought you Whose stats
would you want? Who feels more Hall of famey, which
we did a couple of weeks ago. Again, Matthew Stafford
is a contestant who feels more Hall of famey Matthew
Stafford or matt Ryanna, I'm gonna say Matthew Stafford. It's
(39:38):
that tenuous the one super Bowl win, right, yep. Matthew Stafford,
one Pro Bowl, three hundred and seventy seven touchdowns, fifty
nine thousand yards in sixteen years. In fifteen years, Matt
Ryan had more passing yard sixty three thousand, more touchdowns,
three on eighty one, better quarterback rating, better completion percentage,
(40:00):
and one Super Bowl loss and four Pro Bowl appearances
and an MVP.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Yes, Todd, what if the Falcons don't blow that Super
Bowl against the Patriots and they both have one and
you can always put one in? Does it go to Ryan?
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Yes? Because he beat Tom Brady. Eli's going in. He
beat Tom Brady both times. Some people have responded to
your shirt, Paulie, your shirt looks like a bath mat
and a shirt.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
That's fair.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Let's see Pauli's shirt looks like one from Charlie Sheen
on two and a half men. Yes, I could see
that one and looks like Paulie swiped one of Cosmo
Kramer's shirts as well. Have a compliment, Okay, you can
if you're watching on peacock. You can take a gander
(40:52):
for yourself and you decide. And I think Fritzy likes it.
Marvin liked it, Paulie obviously liked it. Seaton, where did
you land on Pauli's shirt? Here? It's a very paul
Patrill's shirt.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
That's okay, thank you very much.
Speaker 10 (41:12):
That is, if I was buying you a present for
your birthday, I would pick a shirt out like that
for you.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Again, this confirms I have vision issues.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
We'll talk to the great Fox analyst Greg Olsen. He'll
join us and Dodger pitching coach Mark Pryor a little
bit later on as well,
