Speaker 2 (01:42):
They just slaying it. Huh yeah. Dominant, very dominant, makes
it kind of boring. It's the reallyest.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
The ratings are trash right right because proof of the ratings,
I mean, the reality is okay.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Se is just steamrolling everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
But that brings up a thought that I want to
get to in a second about SGA. We're gonna talk
about balding Baldo Rinaldos and what would you do if
you are a balding guy And what if I told
you you might be able to reverse it easily? And
it's not something super commercial. There is a crazy breaking
story about balding men.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Is this like a real story or something you saw
on TikTok? Well, dude, this is real, Okay, this is
it's real.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Faint okay, plus a dumb hypothetical about being mad about
something but yet.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
You don't support it. I'll give you an example.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Remember when Twinkies they were were discontinuing Twinkies in the world,
was like outrage, No, no, life is over. Meanwhile, you
hadn't bought a Twinkie in years. I get it. Twenty
years passes and you haven't bought a Twinkie, but you're
mad if they discontinue it. So I have a funny
(02:54):
story in the news about that. But we'll get you
ready for the weekend. That's what we do. Happy to
be here holiday weekend, so that being we salute all
who served and died for this country as we headed
to a Memorial Day weekend, happy to be here. And
I said, we'll get you ready for that, and we'll
get you ready with something called weekend hobnobbing. Aside from
all the great sports, what you need to watch in
(03:16):
the world of sports and entertainment, weekend hobnobbing.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
We do it every Friday.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah, and a big story that I want to get
to today. I'm just to listen to these things so
I make sure I get to them. Alex Cora put
in a scenario that people love to debate in sports,
and that's personal life versus work. And where's the line
what's more important? I think it's obvious, but this story
(03:40):
where it's like, was it obvious? We'll get to all
that coming up, but I mean again, ratings probably stunk.
Okay see and Minnesota. The Wolve's even gonna show up
for what? What do you think the executives are saying ratings, Yeah,
the Timberwolves have to show up.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Make it a series.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
When are we gonna put a little, uh, a little
respect on the name of the Okay c Thunder?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
What is SGA?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
What is Shae Gilgas? Alexander gonna get the love he deserves? Right,
because I thought about it and.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
It's almost it's almost like he should be named MVP
of the league or something.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Yeah, right, he should be MVP's I think you're right.
I think when you could say his name with full
confidence and not think that you're saying it wrong. Gilder,
why don't think everybody calls him. It's like when you
couldn't say Giannis. Really no, you couldn't say Ante the koopo. Yeah,
well you still can't say that, so you call him SGA.
(04:40):
I think that's it starts there. But I think it's
just a matter of familiarity. Rich I think after the series,
after this run, but especially if they win it all,
if they win it all and he's MVP. Yeah, like
I thought about it. You go back to the draft
in twenty eighteen, if.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You go back int ten, if you go back.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
In time twenty eighteen, and you realize, let me look
at that draft real quick, that was the Luca Covid.
If I remember before the world changed, If you go
back to the year before I lost my eyesight, you know,
it's not that I'm getting older. I suffer from what
I call COVID. I you don't have COVID telling you
(05:22):
my eyes were never the same, dude. No, it's it's
definitely not that you're in your forties.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
No no, no, no no.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
And uh my hair thinned out a little bit now
because I'm getting older COVID hair, bro, So you're going
pre COVID twenty eighteen.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Then the olden days. Take me back.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
The Suns chose DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley went two. That
was the year Luca went three, right, Jaron Jackson, Junior,
Trey Young, couple, couple you know stars in this draft,
but you go all the way down to crappy once
with E eleven.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
I mean it was a first rounder.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
But again, a guy that has averaged over thirty points
a game the last couple of seasons, yet he's never
in the conversation. Yeah, but like I know, he's MVP,
so he could say, Rich, you're fulling? What are you
talking about?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Quality wise, but I don't think do you know many
kids that have an OKC Alexander Jersey?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Do you see that around town? Well, part of that
is the market therein I was.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Gonna say, really just that small market anything, smaller market anything,
and of course they become a bigger household name with
a bigger reputation the more they win. I think it's
simply that small market team, small market reputation. I mean
it's a weak yess example, but Otani was always a star.
(06:45):
Are you saying how Otani went from like, you know,
the guy dominating but he's on the Angels to the Dodgers. Like,
if you're tell me SGA was part of some mega
trade and ended up on the Knicks, Lakers, Golden State,
the Heat, something like that, then all of a sudden
that would change completely. Yeah, I mean tie it into
your own world. We always talk markets here in radio,
(07:05):
and by the way, happy to be on a million
of them. Shout out to all the affiliates this morning.
Appreciate you. Always great to be here. I think Patrick,
I think Dean Patrick really is on close to a
million affiliates. But you could be the greatest radio show ever,
like weaning the butt in the mornings, but if you're
only on in Dayton, Ohio exactly, and that's not to Dayton, Ohio.
(07:27):
It's just you could be the greatest there, but not
everybody's gonna know and respect you the way they should
because it's Dayton, Ohio. It's as simple as that. It's
a market thing. I agree with Danny g. That doesn't
mean it can't change. But winning, as we always say,
winning changes everything. Bill Belichick, right, Everyone's like, man, Bill's
bringing a whole lot of.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
A lot of noise to U n C. You know
how you fix that? Winning? Winning fixes everything. So I
say winning, I think of Charlie shape, and I think
it's old enough that it's retro again winning.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
You still have that on standby, you know, Samp pulled
that out of his back pocket winning huge Charlie sheet fans.
You were waiting for us to bring that back. I
do love the Three Musketeers. Honestly, something's not right. We're
not saying that anything's wrong, but it is wrong to
not respect them the way that we should because they
seem insanely that I know, I.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Know. And Danny g you may roll your eyes because
you're like, dude, he's the m v P.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
He's you know, looks say he's gonna roll to the
NBA finals. But but it's not a household name. Yeah,
I feel like your mom doesn't know his name unless
the mom test the mom test, you know.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
But you're right.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
You brought up young people, young people probably very yeah,
wear point, but it's the uh, it's the Aunt Sharon
at Easter, Christmas or a holiday event.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Like, dude, leave my Aunt Sharon as they might be
listening and rich.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
You may need to slow down that comment just a
little bit until I see, OKAYC get a big lead
and keep it in Minnesota, then I'll agree with that
because think back, ask a Laker if it's easy to
be in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Listen, Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
I think the t Wolves, Anthony Edwards, that whole squad
is fun to watch. I enjoy them. Like I said,
this matchup isn't necessarily what the executives wanted.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Ratings gold Baby Gold.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Of course that they would have wished upon a star
for somehow Golden State or the Lakers or staff or.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
They're getting their ratings in the Eastern Conference of.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Course big time, but a big time difference view of
star power and excitement and competition and market size and
market size. Yeah, it comes back to that New York
the Knicks, the Garden. I'm not trying to be the
ratings guy like boring because I mean his part. I
don't want to be that guy.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I really don't. But we said it a little while back.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
If it's the Pacers, Okay, see, you could argue that
it could be the lowest ratings of the twenty first century.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Well, here's the thing, rich is it?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
As far as ratings Baby ratings, executives clearly would appreciate
the Knicks stepping up and taking it further. Because it's
great for basketball and it's high profile and big market.
But who would be the greater ratings rival in the finals?
I would have assumed the Timberwolves. You know, I don't
(10:18):
stand corrected, but I just found the top selling jerseys
in the NBA, and would you assume that SGA is
in the top ten. Young kids are front runners and
they're like superstars, and everybody's a fan of greatness. Hey,
your boy here, Steve Cavino from Union, New Jersey. I
(10:40):
had a Michael Jordan jersey. I mean I also had
like a Jalen Rose jersey because I thought the Nuggets
jersey was kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Back then.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
I had a bunch of random jerseys, but of course
I had a Jordan jersey because greatness is fun to
root for. I'm not surprised we're talking the MVP. Young
kids who were in the market of buying a New
jersey absolutely would probably go to that first. Oh, you're
a Yankees fan. I'm surprised you're not a Cowboys and
Lakers fan too. Yeah, but hold on, we lived in
(11:10):
an era where things started to change. You became a
fan of greatness. I didn't root for the Raiders. I
didn't root for the Royals, but I was a fan
of Bo Jackson, who wasn't what nineties kid didn't like
Michael Jordan or Bo Jackson or Ken Griffy Junior, right,
so he would be in that category for a young
person today, you're hanging up posters in their room.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Or whatever they do. What do they do?
Speaker 3 (11:33):
A little light up my kids? No, it's not the same.
Even though my daughter has posters. You can still have
a fatheads or is that the two thousand and some
like cool lights, some sort of galaxy on their ceiling
like my kid held. My kid has some little ball
that you let it out that it makes it. It
looks like the milky ways on their sailings. So they
probably have some SGA hologram up there, you know, floating
(11:54):
around their room, some sort of fat head because he
is the MVP. So it's just a It does doesn't
past the Aunt Sharon test, but it passes the give
me a good little Kidney Jackson test. With an ex
Jackson Jackson, it passes the Kyler test. Yeah you know Jackson.
So yeah, so you like SGA of carse I know
(12:16):
at an SGA wall hologram.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
With with that in mind with SGA and after this
MVP season maybe his stardom will pick up. On the
other side of things, Tyree Salliburton, is he a superstar?
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Well, I mean what to find the superstar?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
The question didn't get to that too. You know that's
a great transition. Let me ask you before we do that, though, Well,
you know what superstar moments? What are the what do
you think the top ten selling jerseys are? Now, this
is based on the second half of the NBA season.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Luca's in there, Lucas number one.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
I remember this is the second half, so think people
buying that Luca Lakers jersey. Jason there, he's number four.
I imagine Lebron's still in there. Number three, Curry is
still in there, number two.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
You GC. You guys just nailed the top four. Okay,
New York so Brunson number five.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Yeah, Hey, you guys are like Steve Harvey would buy
his mustache would be uh, you know, shimmering right now
with your family feud style excellence.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Speaking of which, Dan Patrick's celebrity family feud. How cool
is that?
Speaker 3 (13:17):
We gotta get on that, all right, you guys name
the top five. It's called celebrity, fair Berger family.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I'm thinking young stars. Jahn Morant, John Morant's number eight,
So here you go, you're rolling keep on the young star.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
The oh I didn't play the second half of the season,
but Wemby.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Number six, nice, my clean, sweetest. Then there's one more
at number seven, and I'll give you this. SGA is
number nine and it's someone he's playing right now, Ah Edwards.
Edwards is number seven, baby Jordan, and then jok rounds
out the top ten and then Giannis, LaMelo Ball KD,
(13:57):
Devin Booker and Jalen Brown.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
But he's top ten selling Jersey.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
So Cam you know your theory of like yo kids, No,
it's just it might not pass the Aunt Janet at
Christmas test like man the OKC.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
With uh, who's that guy again?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
And Sharon and Janet that's uh, Shay Gilg's Alexander. Oh yeah,
just saying for a guy that's putting up these numbers,
I think he should be more of a household name.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
And when people talk about the young stars of the.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
League, who else is in their twenties doing what he
was doing a lot of the other guys we speak
of on that list are thirty ish or older, the veterans, right.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Well, there is a feeling.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
I saw Charles Barkley being interviewed by one of our pals,
Adam Glynn, who does celebrity interviews like TMZ style interviews,
and he's like, how do you feel about the thunders
chances and what do you think about SGA sort of
coming out of nowhere? That's the feeling like he sort
of came out of nowhere. But that's not the truth. Yeah,
but it feels that way, right, not the truth. Plus,
(15:00):
it takes a minute to acclimate to the NBA, so
let's keep that. I's still a young guy, but it's
been averaging thirty plus, which seems like foreverybody. But it
seems like exactly, so it's not out of nowhere. It
just feels that way. And now they're on a bigger
stage and all those things change a reputation. That's when
the kids tell the older folks like, see, we told you,
(15:20):
because now when it's on a big stage like this,
doesn't matter what market they're playing for, and that's how
you create that reputation and that's what makes you a superstar.
And we can actually transition into that. But before we
move past the timberwolves, and I'm sure we're gonna bring
them up again. Timberwolves just looking weak compared to the thunder.
They're not wolves, Rich, But this is a viral story today.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
I'll see this.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
I'll tell you what I did see this though, all
my way to work this morning. We live out here
in Los Angeles. I'm never up at this early. You know,
that four or five am hour here on the West coast,
you know, getting ready to come here.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, it's not our normal schedule.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Normally we're on two to four on the west, five
to seven pm on the east. What were those wolves
in Game of Thrones? I swear I saw a dire
wolf on my street.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
I think you're lying.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I mean it could you might argue, Rich was probably
a little coyote. But in my mind this morning, as
I pulled out of my driveway, I'm like, this is
a dire wolf.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
I want you to look this up.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Immediately. Immediately. I immediately texted my wife. I'm like, don't
let our dog outside like that.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I just saw a shadow.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
In my mind, in my four thirty in the morning
mind this morning, I was like, I think John Snow
is walking a dire wolf.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
On my street. Dude.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
They are everywhere in Los Angeles. I'm sure you guys
have seen the stories. You sell that story with Tommy
Lee's dog, Right, some coyote hopped over like a ten
foot fence, grabbed the dog, the dog and yeah, hungry man, Yo,
these things are wild right. So literally, there's a story today,
or I saw it today. I think it was a
(16:55):
timber wolf, not a wolf, not a timber wolf, but
five coyotes.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Five coyotes I think equal one wolf, but five coyota.
You can ask me one man or five coyotes.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
No, no, No, five coyotes versus a reeping five coyotes
are a silver back girl. And I think this story
is a random stray black labrador fights off and fends
off five coyotes.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Now, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Like, of course, maybe you're thinking, of course a lab
could fight off five coyotes. To me, I was like, Yo,
that's impressive. This five pack of coyotes attack and one
black lab fights him off.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
That's viral today.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Protecting the I thought it was protecting the house and
the kids, but I think it was a stray and
it was all caught on film and it went viral.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
This morning on my way in I saw on.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Yeah, it says wildlife cam shows stray dog fighting.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
On straight The stray got the best of him when
he drew a tunnel on a brick wall. Really tricked
the coyotes. Nice, yes, yes, so look out for that.
It's it's a local LA story though.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
From my understanding. Raa, California.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Yeah, so I saw it on the news today, but again,
not wolves but coyotes. Props to that black lab pretty sweet.
So speaking of s g A and the feeling, it's
there's no truth behind it is the feeling of him
not getting the respect he deserves. And again, would we
say winning and winning on a big stage always changes that.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
What do you have? Thirty eight points? Last night they
have dominating. There was a.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Question post, well what makes you a superstar? Because Stephen A.
Smith says something in regards to Halliburton, who had a
huge moment. Harry's Halliburton. You know it's that right, No,
Stephen A. The other Stephen you next president.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
The fact of the matter is this, you mean President Smith,
Danny Rock Just.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Because you come up and clutch moments doesn't make you
a superstar.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Now this Stephen and Stephen A. Covino Stephen Anthony Cavino.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
The second says, well, if coming up and clutch moments
doesn't make you a superstar, then what does That's like
someone saying just because she has a perfect just because
she has a perfect ass in great moves, does it
make her hot.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
You're like, well, I think it's part of what makes
you a.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Superstar, but I think there is something else that's a
big light actually make you a superstar. So we posed
this question when we talk Sga and Halliburton, all these
young stars that are playing big in these big moments,
what are the moments or maybe the intangibles that actually
make you a superstar?
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Like, what's the key ingredient?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Rich?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
I like that key ingredients, the chateacdotistics, what's the main ingredient?
Don't you love them? What's the main ingredient? Great oldies,
what's the key ingredient that makes you a superstar?
Speaker 5 (19:58):
Then?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
If it's not coming in the clutch, coming through in
the clutch, then what is it? Your thoughts what makes
up a superstar in the world of sports. We'll get
to that, plus a breakthrough in the world of hair
loss and a dumb hypothetical that has to do with
the sports world. We'll get to that family versus worked
as an Alex Coors story. We're gonna get to We're
getting away prizes, a bunch coming up this morning.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, because I heard Rich said Guilgias of a few guys.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
I said, I said, I've heard so many different people,
much like how people say when banyama and when bam Yama,
Like people.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Mess that up and then it gets in your head.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Yeah, I feel like I've heard people put little different
pronunciations on SGA, So then you start second guessing yourself.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
You know where. That happens a lot too, and people
roll with it. They stop caring.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
I don't know if it's an old guy thing, like
something gets in your head and you just roll with it,
like I don't care. The fight game, especially with is
it bibil or Bible or bevil. Yeah, you know, I
think you have seen it. You stop caring. They have
these crazy Yeah, you just roll with whatever. But we
(23:51):
were talking about SGA and his star power and how
it feels like it's come out of nowhere, but we're
seven seasons in now right and V playing big. We
were talking about the things that matter now in the
big stage. So that turns into well, then what makes
you a superstar? Because Stephen A. Smith went on records
(24:14):
saying that Halliburton was not a superstar. Just because you
come up in a clutch moment doesn't make you a superstar.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
That's the quote.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Because you come up in clutch moments, that doesn't make
you a super That's ridiculous. Yeah, but that's how you
start to become a superstar. Right, And we saw a
lasting image of the choke sign the moment, the doink,
the most ridiculous doink that ever was, aside from your
favorite wrestler, rich or the double doink that eliminated the
(24:46):
manishment of the playoffs a couple of years ago. Or
I have a question off the off the top of
the dome? How many dinks was it that Kawhi had?
Was it three or four before it went in? It
was three and a half. I think it was a question.
It's like how many claps are there in that Friends song?
(25:08):
Do I think it's four?
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah? I think it's four? Is it four? Or five?
How many?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Near?
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Near?
Speaker 5 (25:20):
How many?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
I think Kawhi because we kept saying yesterday on a
regular show five to seven on East Covino and Rich that, yeah,
Kawhi triple doink?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Was it labeled a triple doink? I think he may
have hit four times? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
But I went back to the archives and looked up
an old article about the shot and it caught It
said four bounces off the rim.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah, wow, that still has to be number one.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Then it was a buzzer beater in a game seven,
but it was it was a shot that had like
little doinks like the doink donk like that see and
Team Wolf that the best doint You're right, might have
been in teen Wolf. Team Wolf was a triple bunk.
But I really do think the fact that that ball
hit the back of the rim and bounced up what
(26:05):
felt like ten feet off your TV screen. It was
eight plus feet yeah, Dan Byer pointed out, and went
out of your TV screen. It felt like forever coming
down and then gently hit the bottom of the net
like what was that? Teen Wolf? So and then Alan
Burton there with the premature celebration of choking ah. But
(26:26):
then they end up winning anyway, which saves the premature
celebration in my opinion. And I think these moments, these
clutch moments, begin to build the legend. So we asked
you Fox Sports Radio Nation Dan Patrick Nation to chime
in at eight seven seven ninety nine one Fox eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox. If stephen A says,
(26:49):
because you come up and clutch moments doesn't make you
a superstar, then what does that's part of it?
Speaker 2 (26:54):
What's the key ingredient? It's to me, it's it's one
of the main ingredients.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Like I said, me FO, not to sound the crass,
but if it's like, yeah, dude, she's got a perfect ass.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Great moves.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
I'm not sure if your top though. It's like, dude,
those are big elements. Those are part of it. Those
are big part. I mean, I you know what the
intangible would be there, Like sex appeal. Yeah, man, she's
got a sweet heini You don't, man, well, bam, no
sex appeal. There's a few of those around. You know
what I'm talking about?
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Now?
Speaker 3 (27:29):
When I think of clutch, who are the most clutch people?
Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Derek Jeter, like Poppy,
Big Poppy. The most clutch people are you guessed it?
For the most part. Stars. Now, I'll give you one
or two that I think are very clutch people. But
(27:50):
you might say, oh, they're stephen A's point that they're not.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
You don't have to.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Come in clutch to be a superstar. Aaron Judge hasn't
really been a clutch guy. He's still a superstar. But
I'm gonna give you two names. It's just part of it.
I'm gonna give you two baseball names, and you tell
me if you think these guys are superstars. He's there clutch,
My dude, Francisco Lindor is he a superstar? He's clutches
(28:17):
could be, but is he a superstar?
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Well that poses another question. Mmm, See, you don't have to.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Win either to be a superstar like Reggie Miller's clutch Yeah, okay,
well in every one, if you won and you were
clutch bigot rob or oh yeah, superstar he had moments.
I had another one, Danny of a Dodger. You're a
big Dodgers guy like Keith g Hernandez. That guy's clutches
(28:46):
could be. But is he a superstar?
Speaker 2 (28:48):
No, he's not.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
He's just a clutch player. So what exactly makes you superstar?
Star in his own city? But you're right outside of that.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
No.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I thought about it, and that's why the SGA the
previous discuss and sort of ties in right.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
It's like, well, why is he not a household name?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Well, he's MVP now and he's dominating in the playoffs
and he might dominate in the finals. I think it's
sustainability and consistency. That's a major part of it. It's like,
because people could be a flash in a pan and
have a insanity sort of moment and could be great
in clutch moments like ke k Hernandez, but they don't
sustain that for a long period of time. When you've
(29:26):
been playing big for seven years and now you're MVP
and you're in the playoffs and you're dominating, and you're
putting up thirty eight points and you could potentially win
it all.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Yeah, sga, superstar.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
They're heading into that superstar world where your aunt Sharon
knows his name and by the way, shout out to
my aunt Sharon.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Right.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
So, I think one of those intangibles that makes you
a superstar, or one of those ingredients is consistency or sustainability,
Like how long have you been doing it? Yeah, you
can't just be a guy who had a good year,
like yeah, he had one good year. It doesn't make
you a superstar. I have a question for you, guys.
I'm gonna give you two NBA players. I want you
to tell me are they superstars? Because I think these
(30:09):
two guys are clutch. Now are you saying super or
super because I believe there's a difference superstar two guys
that you could argue superstar or not, and they have
the same initials. I'll give you the initials if you
can figure the two guys. I'm thinking of JB NBA players.
Oh oh, you're talking about Jack Black.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Love a chicken Jack Jack Black, superstar, superstar. So JB,
Jimmy Jonly, Boney.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Only, Boneless Stewart, j Only, B Only JB, Jimmy Jimmy
Butler is not a superstar.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Here's why. Is he clutch? Very clutch? He's play off Jimmy.
I love Jimmy Butler. He's on.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
He's on like the precipice of superstardom. I'll give you
an example. Want to hear my analogy? Yes, sir, I
just thought of this. When you think of nineties rock, right,
like think of the core four or five. You got
bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jams, Sound Garden, Alison Shane's STP Yeah,
but then you got bands like Live Right, Smashing Pumpkins.
(31:24):
Smashing Pumpkins, who are there? They're great, perfect Smashing Pumpkins.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Great band. But are they top four or five of
that era?
Speaker 3 (31:31):
No? Maybe arguably, but they're right there. Jimmy Butler's right there.
He's the Smashing Pumpkins of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
He's great. He's right there, or as Dan Patrick would say,
he's in the hall of very good.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Right, let me give you another one that I think
he's a great player, but his reputation to me has
been built on the last two seasons of WOW Playoffs.
This guy comes out and that's another JB. Jalen Brunson Ooh,
hold on, I wasn't done with Butler. I think Butler
has superstar qualities though superstar personality. I think his personality
(32:11):
is that in the way he carries himself, he's.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
That of a superstar.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
But what makes a superstar is the question if coming
in clutch doesn't make you a superstar. The more and
more I think about it, it doesn't. It's just a
part of what makes you a superstar. It doesn't make
you a superstar. Think of all the random players that
came in clutch. It's it's usually like an ancillary.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Part of the team, like David Freeze, right, yeah, someone
like that.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
There'll be a guy that steps up, some sort of
utility dude who came in big with a big hit,
and you're like, man, that was insane.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Can't believe that dude came through with that shot. I'll
give you a guy.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
So again, it's it's it's it's a bunch of things
that make you the superstar. But what's what's the key ingredients? Well,
I'll give you a guy that we interviewed at the
super Bowl, a guy that I respect. He's very polarizing,
like Kurk Chilling. That guy came up big when it mattered. Okay,
now he's the opposite of Jimmy Butler. He has the credentials,
(33:11):
but he didn't have like a superstar sort of personality.
Person I thought he was too great but something like
but his numbers say it all. So nanny nanny, poof, poof.
He's a superstar where you want it to be or not.
But back to Brunson, I think what makes Brunson superstar?
What really slow defies the deal as him continuing to win,
but you know, playing for the Knicks and continuing to
(33:34):
be consistent and even in a loss, putting up forty
something points and in the bounce back tonight really again proves.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Where he's at.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Let's go to you guys, uh and for the great
Dan Patrick, Kevino Ritch, Let's say it's up to Kenny
in La what's up?
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Kenny Fellows?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Something going up?
Speaker 5 (33:53):
And for many many years I got that superstar is
based solely what you did on the corner on the field.
I think seven point was really based upon charisma or personality.
And I'm going to ask you if you know, off
the top of your head who led the NBA in
scoring the nineteen eighties because his game played little different
(34:14):
position played forward reminds me of SGAs.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Oh leading scorer of the decade known as the eighties.
So you would think Jordan because he put up a
bunch of thirty years. Who's the answer. Who's your answer?
Go ahead, Alex, Alex Alex English.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Yeah, wow, wow, yeah, yeah yeah, former Denver nugget. Now
I think of Jordan dominating the nineties eighties. That was
a good one.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
But again the half the decade quote is just because
you show up in clutch moments doesn't make you a superstar,
as Stephen A. Smith on Tyrese Halliburton on whether or
not he's a superstar because he had a huge moment,
but also that lasting moment is gonna live on for
years to come. We're gonna look back and remember, like,
(35:05):
oh yeah, that eight foot doink that went in that
won that game. Yeah, that was a superstar. Memorable moment
That helps helps with the legacy with the legend, So
we'll get to the rest of your phone calls. Please
hang tight at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
What's the main ingredient? What does make you a superstar?
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Then?
Speaker 2 (35:24):

this little riddle.

JAMARKUAI rip off. And I hope he hears that. I'm
just kidding now, because when you think about it, when
I first heard five, I'm like, who's that is? That's America?
Why what is that?
Speaker 3 (36:09):

Speaker 3 (37:28):
So if you want to watch, like I said the
Fox Sports Radio YouTube page, you could see my Goonies
T shirt today, And I just want to bring this up.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Really the biggest goon I know. I introduce Goonies to
my kids.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
I have an eight year old daughter and a five
year old son, and I'm like, I think it's time,
and they really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
I wasn't slock scares the hell out of them.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
I was. I wasn't the forty year old guy that's like, kids,
let me take you back to my childhood. They actually
seem to enjoy the adventure of Goonies. I will say
there was one part where they're like, Dad, why are
they doing that? I'm like, God, turn away when they
break the statue and they put the junk back on
upside down and mouth is uh, you know the statue.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Of course, that's that's an awkward part. It's funny.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Explain to the kids and they'll get it. I'm pretty
sure the dad the statue is pete pee full off.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Yeah, turn away.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
The nanny housekeeper woman in that scene where Mouth is
speaking Spanish to her.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
It's the same woman that kills Selena in the movie,
is she not? I think it is.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
I think it's the same lady so Rich wearing his
Gooney's T shirt if you watch us on Fox Sports
Radio's YouTube page. But right now we're gonna wrap it
with your phone calls. What makes you a superstar? I
think stephen A with that statement is just making the
(38:51):
point that you could be a Robert or you could
be you know, even a Kirk Gibson, a Kik Hernandez
where you can come and clutch and you be a star.
But are you a superstar? I mean, listen, if Halliburton
does another it's a superstar. You know, if he does
another star quality thing this series, then then you gotta start,
you know, thinking maybe Haliburton is a superstar. But we'll
(39:14):
see tonight. The garden should be rocking and I see
the headline. Can the Knicks recover? Like they're not down
three to one? It's not three oh or two one even? Yeah,
But that was, as I've been calling it all week,
that was a Mola Ram moment. That was a they
got their hearts ripped out Goli Molli.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
It really was was there.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
And Mola Aram the Pacers. Halliburton ripped their hearts out
and stopped them at the garden. Their hearts were up
in flames. I mean, how did the Knicks recover so simple?
It wasn't just a loss. It was a heartbreaking, heart
ripping loss.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Win tonight.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
It's one one and it's a best of five, and
it's not the way you planned it. But if you
get out of tonight tied one one, I think the
Knicks could say, all right, now it's the best of five,
but we don't have home court anymore in the best
of five. Indian let me solidify my answer here. Yeah,
I don't think stephen A is wrong.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
I think what.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Halliburton did was a superstar moment. Superstar moments don't necessarily
make you a superstar. So yeah, being clutch, that's a quality.
That's an ingredient. Is it the main ingredient? We've seen
a lot of randos in clutch moments step up and
play big. They had big superstar moments, They're not superstar.
(40:37):
Let me give you though, I think he's technically sort
of right. I think you got to add sustainability to it,
meaning you have to consistently do those things for a
certain amount of years, which is why SGA is in
superstar territory. Now this is seventh year playing Big MVP,
big stage. So these are the things that make you
a superstar. Sustainability, consistency, things like that. In tangibles, I
(41:00):
think sometimes what could take you from like you're saying,
it could take you from like.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yo, you're you're a very good player.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Also market matters, but your clutch in these big moments,
I think sometimes it could work against you, meaning like
if you're a really good player that doesn't do anything
in the clutch, I think it keeps you in that yeah,
like never one, Yeah, but not only Nember one. But
like I'll give you a great example of Justin Herbert
in the NFL. Justin Herbert is always that guy that
(41:27):
people talk about with all the potential in the world,
and you keep waiting waiting for him to break out,
but the guys yet to do anything in the postseason.
So now if Justin Herbert, imagine if he was a
young quarterback that you know, put up the numbers and
everyone believed in him, and he's had a couple big
playoff performances like a Jayden Daniels. You'd be thinking a
little different of Herbert because right now, justin Herbert, we're
(41:48):
being really technical, right and we're really overthinking it because
Steven A.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Smith is a.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Little booty here about his nicks. Yeah, that's really what
it comes down to you. Let's make that clear. So
like as Josh Allen is superstar, I'd say, yes, well,
well we shall see if he wins the Big One.
Though you could be a superstar, you're right without one
in the big what makes you a superstars? The question
hit us at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
We're going to talk about hair loss and sports, a
(42:17):
really interesting story, plus we'll give away some prizes. Last
one Standing coming up, a lot of fun Covino on
Rich and for Dan Patrick, it's Friday.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Let's go
