Big night last night, Denver Broncos now eight and five,
the playoff bound question Martin Bronco five. Broncos hold off
the Browns forty one thirty two. A bad beat for you, betters.
It was six and a half points, six and a half.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Jamis leading the Browns down.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Maybe they're gonna take the lead, or certainly they could
cut into the lead and they could cover and then
they don't. Forty one thirty two to the final. The
Browns dropped two, three and nine. More on that coming up.
No football tonight, got some basketball with the NBA Cup,

Good morning.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the
app to watch the program. A little later on, are
you done done or back in? We'll have the topics
for you and new rankings College football coming up tonight
as well. Christa McCaffrey to the injured reserve I mentioned yesterday,
probably done for the season, and it's portal season, by
(01:56):
the way. I don't know how you celebrate, but will
be a few players who will be opting out of
their bowl games because they'll be headed to new programs.
And I certainly understand that if I'm a coach I'm
bringing you in and you're being asked to play in
the Outback Bowl, I'm going to go, no, you're not.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Not.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
If we're paying you money in the portal to come
to our program. But it is portal season eight seven
seven three DP show operator Tyler sitting by, and we
say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country. iHeartRadio,
Fox Sports Radio as well. Recapping what we saw with
the Broncos and the Browns last night. That was surprisingly
(02:36):
entertaining and you got to see a little bit of
the good, the bad, the ugly with Jameis Winston. But
he does give you a pulse, He does give you hope.
There is the entertainment portion of the program with him,
now that's open to interpretation. Are you entertained by him
if you're a Browns fan, I don't know if you go, well,
(02:58):
you know what, I was entertained by him. He was
gonna win a game for you, and then he helped
lose a game for you. But at least he gives
me a chance. Deshaun Watson wasn't taking any chances. He
didn't want to run, he didn't want to force anything,
and he just seems so irrelevant, like it seems like
that was such a long time ago that Deshaun Watson
(03:18):
played for the Cleveland Browns. But Jameis Winston, he tried.
He's not afraid. There are times when he should try
less and maybe a little more afraid. But he even
had the special pregame speech last night.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Funny thing about this opportunity because we all know that
that's what we do it for it all right, We've
worked all our life for this moment. It's just us today.
Let's have your on the back, energy, execution, precision and
domination all right together? Can we go on three?
Speaker 7 (03:53):
Three?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Once again, he is entertaining, But you had to win
the turnover battle. According to the Broncos head coach Sean Peyton,
the turnover.
Speaker 8 (04:06):
Battle, you know, was close, and then we ended up
winning it and that really sealed the game.
Speaker 9 (04:10):
You know, I'm probably the way that we fought and
we got that next win that.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
Was most important.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Once again, you got to win the turnover battle. Just
to ask Kevin Stefanski, the Browns head coach, you have
to win.
Speaker 9 (04:21):
That turnover margin. That's the first key to these games.
And it's hard to go on the road and be
a good football team if you turn the ball over
like we did.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
And that's just the truth.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
That's the turnover battle, and you've got to win the
turnover battle. Jamis Winston throws for four ninety seven, four touchdowns,
three interceptions, two really big interceptions in about two minutes,
and that did it. Bo Nicks had a moment there,
ninety three yard touchdown passed to Marvin Mims. It was fun.
(04:53):
I didn't expect a lot. I expected Denver to win.
I just never know what to expect with Cleveland. But
I thought Cleveland's defense was going to be more of
a factor. I thought Denver's defense because Denver's defense in
the beginning part of the season was really good and
Jamis Winston carved him up just a little bit.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
All right, Seaton Pole. Question from the first hour is
going to.
Speaker 10 (05:15):
Be what the first hour poll question is going to
be the most entertaining player in the NFL, which Paul
has said we can define as we like Lamar Jackson
very entertaining, Josh Allen you could put into yeah, he's
mildly entertaining, Jamis sure, sure, Okay, this just says Barkley,
(05:38):
which I'm assuming means Saquon, not Charles Patrick Mahomes very
entertaining or Matt Barkley. I could be Matt Barkley as well. Yeah, yeah, good,
call my bad. Anybody else that you would want to
throw in there, and who can we take.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Off that list? Well, Recncy biased, Jameis Winston has to
be in there. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, did he eat a W last night pregame? For
some reason, I thought he had the W that he
was going to eat the W. Yes, Paulie, I love
his stat line. Four touchdown, three picks. I would love
to know the most combined touchdowns thrown in a game,
because he threw six touchdowns last night, four to his team,
two to the other.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
We're checking that.
Speaker 11 (06:20):
Say, I was trying to get a defensive player on
this pole question, and I thought about Miles Garrett because
when I'm watching the Browns and I watch them play,
I start by watching Miles Garrett and then I go
to the ball. No, Troy Palamalo back in the day
was an entertaining defensive player. I don't know if there's
a defensive player that can make this pole question.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yes, Todd, Now you can't spell Winston without I int
Is that too soon?
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Bud?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You can't spell Winston without wi n Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
And TD, I think yes.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yes, James is going to help somebody win. I don't
know who he's gonna help somebody win.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
No, he's fun, he's fun.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I don't want him as my starting quarterback, but given
the circumstances, I'm fine with him being in there. It
just feels like you have a chance. Whereas Deshaun Watson
you didn't. You didn't have a pulse. He played scared,
he was very tenuous. Winston at least tries. You know,
he's pushing the envelope a little bit too much. Yes,
(07:22):
but I mean that's the guy who's the you know,
the only member of the thirty thirty club in football history.
I believe, thirty touchdowns, thirty interceptions.
Speaker 10 (07:30):
Yeah, you get the sense of Jameis Winston though that
he might not be aware that there's something to be
nervous about, Like he would be like, yeah, but how
great am I that I've been blessed to be put
in this position to throw three interceptions?
Speaker 5 (07:42):
How could I lose? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
He also had a big request post game. Here's Jameis Winston.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
In times like this.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
You know, this.
Speaker 7 (07:53):
Is is the opportunity took a team, took off out
a little even through the toughest circumstances. I know him
better than this, I know. I'm like, I'm just praying
for the Lord to deliver me from Pick sixes, Like,
that's just that's not me, Like phenomenal game, do some
great things.
Speaker 10 (08:14):
I miss it up, deliver me from Pick sixes, But
didn't the Lord? Bless those defensive backs with the stop
getting caught up in that stuff? Which which one is
the Lord? Why isn't the Lord more on your side?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Then?
Speaker 10 (08:30):
Why is the Lord more on the other teams side?
I don't know, because the Lord on their team. They're like, man,
how great is the Lord that he's letting us all
these interesting ah?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Bless the Lord from the Pick sixes Randy, what he's
serious though?
Speaker 5 (08:48):
He's serious.
Speaker 11 (08:50):
Yes, he's not in on the joke. He's not making
a joke or playing a role. No, that's James Winston.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Ye, he's a Key and Peal character come to life.
He's a real life Campio character.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Yes, yes, deliver me from Pick sixes, Priest Jesus. It
would be.
Speaker 10 (09:15):
Pretty sick though, if like aliens came down and landed
and we could choose to send one representative of all
human kinds to say, go talk to the alien. I'm
pretty sure I would send James Winston.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
And they would quickly send him back. They're like, who
is this oh, we've already been here. Interesting? What is
this funny? I didn't realize we'd been in contact.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
H Jerry Judy acting like Jerry Rice.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Last night he had two hundred and thirty five receiving yards,
most ever by a player against his former team. The
previous high was Tara Owens against the forty nine Ers
back in two thousand and eight. Stat of the day,
sad of the day?
Speaker 12 (09:56):
That past?
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Stead of the day? Stat of the day? Here comes that?
What stat of the day.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
By the way, According to DraftKings this morning, the odds
to win the offensive Rookie of the Year, it's still
Jade and Daniels by a good margin. Then it's bo Nicks,
and then brock Bowers the tight end for the Raiders.
You have to go out of your way to watch
the Raiders, but when you watch, you can't miss brock
Bauers can't miss him. But bo Nicks played well, you know,
(10:28):
not great, but played well opportunistic.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
But if you go.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Back to last year, Sean Payton gets there, he's the savior.
Then all of a sudden, all right, you got Russell
Wilson where they clearly didn't get along, or Sean clearly
didn't want him to be his quarterback, and Russ played okay,
but you know the writing was on the wall. Sean
Payton wanted to get his quote quarterback and he got
(10:53):
him in bow Knicks. So you send Russe away, take
a huge cap hit, and he goes to Pitchburg. Pittsburgh
gets him for a bargain and now they're leading their division.
Broncos could be going to the playoffs. So both teams won. Now,
granted it was an expensive decision for the Broncos, but
they got their guy bo Nicks on a rookie quarterback.
(11:15):
Now Pittsburgh is going to have to decide how much
is Russell Wilson worth after this season? Now, I still
maintain let's play this out. Let's see what you do
when you get to the postseason. Are you one and done?
Do you make a run here? And that might over
inflate under and flate Russell Wilson's value in the off season.
(11:37):
You still have justin Fields are you going to keep?
I mean they were kind of in quarterback purgatory before
they had Russ, before they had Justin Fields, and so
they had to make a decision here, can we get
somebody who's threatening down the field, and Russ has been
threatening down the field. He's played well coming back from
(11:57):
the injury. But it feels like both of these teams
benefited in the offseason with big decision. Now Pittsburgh's wasn't
a big decision, but I mean Kenny Pickett, he was
not threatening. And if you're gonna throw for less than
fifteen touchdowns in today's NFL, you better have a great, great,
(12:18):
great ground game there and a great defense. And normally
they have a good running game and they have a
really good defense there, but they could move on. Now,
all of a sudden, you get somebody who is going
to make the defense at least aware that you can
throw the ball down the field. So Pittsburgh ends up
benefiting from this, and Denver certainly has with Sean Payton,
because Sean Payton's rolling the dice. You're getting paid eighteen
(12:40):
million dollars a year, and you're gonna get rid of
somebody who's gonna cost you what fifty sixty seventy million
dollars when it's all said and done, and you're gonna
get Bo Nicks, who was the last of all the
quarterbacks drafted. So you get the rookie deal, but he
better be your rookie. He better be your quarterback. Because
you did get Caleb, you didn't get Jaden. Even JJ McCarthy.
(13:03):
We're not sure how good he is. Drake May. They
had to take the leftovers there and bow Knicks, But
see bo Nicks is what twenty four and he's been
at Auburn playing in the SEC. He was at Oregon.
You're playing in the PAC twelve and at that age,
with that experience with two different franchises, and you're getting
(13:23):
paid while you're in college. So the transition where I
disagree with Tom Brady is a little bit easier. That's
still difficult, but you have him able to make the transition.
Jaden Daniels making the transition. Caleb Williams has played pretty well.
Drake May only played at North Carolina, but he's probably
twenty three, twenty four. You're getting these guys now, Bryce
(13:46):
Young and Anthony Richardson. They're still younger than these quarterbacks.
They're going to be younger than the quarterbacks that are
taking shaudor Sanders. They're younger than shaudor Sanders. They're still
trying to get that that the reps there learned the game.
That's why when they sat down, they got a chance
to learn a little bit, and they played pretty well.
(14:07):
But when you're you've got fifty starts or more in college,
you're able to have that experience of being in tough situations. Here,
Bryce Young was in a tough situation at Alabama. You're
playing at Alabama, Anthony Richardson didn't play enough at Florida.
Now we're going to find out just how good they
are maybe the next, you know, five weeks here. But
(14:28):
I'm glad that these two franchise. Remember Bryce Young was
reportedly maybe available or teams were inquiring about him at
the trade deadline, Anthony Richardson getting bench for Joe Flacco.
So you have these situations. And so when I see
bow Nicks, I don't see a rookie quarterback. Well, I
(14:49):
see an experience first year quarterback, because when you say rookie,
it has usually a negative connotation. But he has poise,
he hangs in there, he's tough, and he's fortunate that
he has Sean Payton.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
All right, Seeton, do we have any other poll questions
that we're thinking about or do you want to take
a break? Oh, by the way, it's time to play
the NFL news game.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Do we have music for that? We do, of course,
time to play the NFL news game. That just happened,
just came through.
Speaker 11 (15:17):
Ian Rappaport, oh Houston Texans linebacker Aziz al sa Here
has been suspended without paying for a blank number of
games or repeated violations of the rules to protect health
and safety of players.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Blank number of games.
Speaker 11 (15:33):
Let's start with Tot Frith.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I'm gonna say two games.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
See you said repeated m mm hmmmmm, h mm hmmm.
Speaker 11 (15:45):
I'm gonna say three games, marvelous the rest of the season, Stickler,
Marv damn, I'm gonna go too. Aziz alsa Here has
been suspended three games by the league repeated violations, and
they go into detail of why his hit was back.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Okay, when we come back, we'll hear from his head coach,
Dimiko Ryans, who, by the way, didn't blame his player,
He blamed Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
Have that for you coming up right after this.
Speaker 1 (16:17):

Speaker 2 (16:29):
I want to give a shout out to small business owners.
All of our products are produced by great local businesses.
Pennies Bang Biscuits by Sunbeam General in New Jersey, Gilgamesh
Brewing in Oregon for the new aunible ale Wear's my shirt.
Also an Oregon White Dog Distilling in Rhode Island. They
make the tailgate Moonshine. So when you shop at Danpatrick
(16:52):
dot com, you're helping support small business owners all over
the country. At Danpatrick dot com in case you're just
joined us. The Texans linebacker Aziz al Shair has been
suspended for three games for his hit on Trevor Lawrence
and the ensuing scuffle as well. Now they're also factoring
in two priors with him, so he is going to
(17:16):
be suspended for three games and probably going to appeal this,
but probably is going to have to wait till week
seventeen to come back. Demiko Ryans is the Texans head coach. Yesterday,
he talked about the play Trevor Lawrence and the hit
by his player, a Zi's al Shaiir.
Speaker 12 (17:37):
A lot of the quarterbacks in this day and age,
they try to take advantage of the rule where they
sly late and they try to get an extra yard,
and now you're a defender. A lot of onners is
on a defender, right, whether it's on the sideline or
where it's on the quarterback. You don't know what a
guy's thinking. You don't know if a guy stand up
and he's continuing to run, you don't know. And then
(17:57):
you get a late slide and you're.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
You know, the guy.
Speaker 12 (18:00):
Unfortunately that Trevor got hurt. We want to hope Trevor
is okay. But it's also if we're sliding, we have
to get down. If we're getting out of bounds, we
get out of bounds, and that rule is there to
protect the quarterbacks and we want our quarterbacks to be
safe in the league. So we just have to be
safe and we're sliding, make sure we're keeping our heads down.
So and the entire thing is, you know, azse, here's
(18:24):
the guy, but their sideline overreacts and it turns out
and turns into a melee. It wasn't our guys, it's
their team overreacted, pushed our guy, dragging our guy to
the sideline. So that's uncalled for on that side. We
have to be better on the sidelines as well with
both teams.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Okay, I understand what he's saying about quarterbacks who slide late.
Patrick Mahomes takes advantage of this. Whether he's gonna go
out of bounds, not go out of bounds down the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
What do you do?
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Can you hit him? Quarterbacks who slide look like they're
going to slide, They don't slide. I understand all of them.
But for his player to come with a forearm at
Trevor Lawrence's head is where he loses me. He also
loses me when he says, hey, the Jacksonville sideline overreacted.
It's really embarrassing that Demko says this, because if C. J.
(19:17):
Stroud was hit and his players didn't react like that,
he would be livid with them. The Jacksonville players reacted,
It was in front of them, and then all of
a sudden, you've got this melee going on there. You
had two priors and you have this one. I don't
(19:37):
know if the NFL can revisit this. We'll talk to
Mike Golick next hour. What can you do with a
quarterback sliding when he slides, the reaction time that you
have and I know it's bang bang. We have the
benefit of slow motion. I'm watching it in real time
and I go, oh my god, he's going to get
fined for that. And then all of sudden you have
(20:01):
what kind of evolves or devolves into a melee. But
he's got a brace on his left forearm that he
goes towards Trevor Lawrence's head, so you don't make any
effort to avoid. And that's the problem that I have
with this. He goes up and he's going right at
(20:22):
his head. Trevor Lawrence gets knocked out, and I know,
we look at the end result and work our way back.
Let's say he's taken to you know, the blue tent
and he's not concussed. He should still be fine for that,
may be suspended for that because he had two priors.
But for Jamiko Ryans to say, a former defensive player.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Hey, they overreacted.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
I don't know if anybody in the Houston media said, coach,
what if CJ. Stroud got hit? How would you feel
if your players went out on the field and went
after the guy? What if they didn't react? Coach, what
would you say? Ask him the question? We're all about
player safety.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Are the quarterbacks taking advantage of this. Probably at times
there are quarterbacks who don't know how to slide. Believe
it or not, did Trevor Lawrence take advantage of this?
You know it's a designed run. I mean he's not throwing.
It's a design run, and he's going for the first down.
I understand what you're doing, and it's bang bang in
(21:30):
the moment. But you got two priors, so I'm not
going to give you the benefit of the doubt. And
you went up towards his head with a forearm. I
have a problem with that. And he gets suspended three games? Yes, Ton,
And what is getting.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Down low enough? Actually the Miko riots was referring to,
you gotta get down lower, show that you're really giving
yourself up like a loos like you get down.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Flat on your back.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
You know you're still a body that's running.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
You know.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I'm assuming he wasn't trying to trick anybody into that
he was giving himself up. I don't know what's the
latitude and longitude of being down enough.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
Well, I understand it.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
If Josh Allen was making the same run, I would
go after him because I wouldn't think he was going
to slide Trevor Lawrence who's been banged up, and this
isn't fair to the defender. But I don't think that
Trevor Lawrence is going to take on a defender. Just
not Josh Allen will take on a defender. Mahomes will
(22:27):
go to the sidelines and maybe act like he's going
to the sidelines and tiptoe down the sidelines. I understand
all of these things Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, but if
you go up with your forearm towards his head, that's
where you lose me.
Speaker 10 (22:43):
Yeah, the you know Caleb Williams this weekend, he went
to fake like he was running out of bound, sort
of like a fake out of bound slide thing, and
then cut it back and nearly got both of his
knees broken in half. And the reaction to that was,
WHOA why is he going for his knees there? Well,
that's a dirty player going for his knees. Where's he
supposed to go? How is anybody supposed to know what
(23:03):
you're allowed to do with the quarterback?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, that was a tough hit by Jack Campbell on
Caleb going to the sidelines. But as I've said for decades,
get out of bounds, Get out of bounds, Get out
of bounds. Now, Trevor Lawrence wasn't trying to get out
of bounds. He was going for the first down. But
you see, I go back to RG three, who's one
(23:25):
of the fastest guys you ever played in the game.
They caught him, he got hurt. I don't know if
the NFL can change the rule. Look into the rule.
What can you do? Do you take out sliding? Like,
what do you do to be fair? And I've said
this so many times, we've taken out all the rules
(23:46):
that help the defense. I get that, and that's why
you see. You used to see more defenders trying to
blow up guys. That was the only way they were
going to make a highlight blowing guys up. Hey, he's
a hard hitter. I go back to Chuck Cecil. Never
Chuck Cecil. I think Chuck Cecil's on the Arizona coaching staff.
(24:08):
Wasn't he banging some guy's helmet with his head? He
started bleeding. That's Chuck Cecil defensive back. But I don't
know if there's some way to protect these quarterbacks from
themselves or let that defender know it's go time.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
Yeah, Pauling, I'm watching it back in real time, and
it is really a bang bang play and the onus
is on the defender to alter his tackle. Trevor Lawrence
is running full tilt, ball in the hand like a runner,
and he starts his slide about two yards before the
first downline. AZA here, I think you're one hundred percent right.
Is there is no move whatsoever to avoid it. I
(24:47):
know sometimes you can't avoid it, but he goes full
tilt and there's no pulling back of the arm or
twisting to the left. Sometimes Chris Jones, the defensive tackle
for the Chiefs, will tackle guy and when he's instead
of pile driving him, he'll put his hand down to
try to rest it for him on the quarterback. And
that's enough to take away intent. And that's how you
don't get fined, don't get suspended.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
And I understand this with sacks.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
You know that you get guys flagged for roughing the
passer and it's really embarrassing. This is a situation where
it's pretty violent that you're going towards somebody's head and
you're leading with your forum. That's the problem that I have,
and the two priors there's one where he hits I
think it's Tony Pollard out of bounds. That is to
(25:29):
me far dirtier than this. That's player is out of
bounds by two yards and he comes flying in and
hits somebody from behind.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Yeah. See it is pretty.
Speaker 10 (25:41):
Ironic though, that John Runyon is the NFL VP of
Operations or whatever. He's the dude who's handing out all
the fines. It's one of the dirtiest players of all time.
The Internet is loaded with videos of him doing things
that don't even resemble a football play. And he's the
one who's like, you know, your lack of respect and
integrity for the game is why you're being suspended.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Someone really, John.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Really, Drew Draymond Green is going to get that job
with the NBA when he's gone.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Decorum and the proper way to uh yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
It's like these these criminals who crack codes and get
into your you know, your data's database, then you hire
them to show you how people can get in and
prevent that. Like, we're going to get the guy who's
guilty of this, and he's going to be able to
hand out the punishment.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Yes, Todd, Yeah, if anybody knows that's the perfect hire.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
And who else would you want but someone that does
exactly in the mind of someone that does these horrible things.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Yes, yes, Baul.
Speaker 11 (26:36):
There's a little more from the NFL statement that caused
the three game suspension. They say, after the illegal hit,
you alsa here proceeded to engage in a brawl that
escalated when you pulled an opponent's face mask. After the
referee announced that you were disqualified, you stayed on the field,
removed your helmet, re engage with the opponent, walking down
the field, not leaving the physical field to play.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yeah, they couldn't get him off the field.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
It's like, you know, he wants to fight, but you know,
the NFL says you led with your forearm and helmet
and delivered a forceful blow to the head neck area
of your opponent.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Yes, that's the problem. You can say, Hey, I don't know,
is he sliding? Is he running?
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Well, you're leading with your forearm and you're going towards
his head. Suspended three games. Doug in North Carolina, Hey Doug,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 8 (27:27):
Well, Dan, I have a good ideal, bad ideal for you.
You had a great line yesterday about you don't need
to plant the flag if you've already planted the seed. Yes,
but personally I kind of like the flag planning. I
think the problem with Saturday is it was a spontaneous event,
and therefore the reaction was also spontaneous. I think if
you beat a rival, like a really genuine rival, you
(27:51):
ought to make it like an official part of the ceremony,
where the public address announcer says, listen, let me draw
your attention to the center of the field, where Michigan
will now plant the flag. I think I think we
need more of this in college football, not less so
good ideal, bad ideal, make it official?
Speaker 2 (28:08):
All right, that's Doug in North Carolina. I think he
meant to say idea, but he said ideal. So good ideal,
bad ideal. Yeah, that's a bad ideal.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Is that a new segment we're playing now? I think
we're no good ideal, bad ideal, deal or no deal.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
It's not ideal. Didn't Megan Markle, wasn't she on deal
or no deal?
Speaker 8 (28:30):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Yeah, yeah, she held a briefcase. There be number twelve
now I'm kidding there.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yeah, yeah, I didn't you know they're all beautiful on
deal or no deal. But I didn't realize Meghan Markle
was there holding a briefcase. All right, good idea, bad idea, Todd.
Should we make it a ceremonial moment for the the
opposing team if they win on the road, they get
to plant their flag at midfield?
Speaker 4 (28:55):
That's silly, Absolutely not. There's no need for flagpointing. You
won the game, Go getting the bus and go.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
And do they have to get a base, like a
Christmas tree base to put the you know, because you
can't put the flag in the astroturfle or.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
Tree skirt around? Yeah, logo, yeah, Like like how far
do we take this?
Speaker 2 (29:11):
You know, we going to we want to plant a
Christmas tree and we want to put some lights up there.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Seeting.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Good idea, bad idea of making a ceremonial planting of
the flag? Not bad idea, Marvin, good ideal or bad ideal?
Speaker 5 (29:28):
Really bad ideal, Paul uh, bad ideal.
Speaker 11 (29:34):
I like the oaken bucket and you get like a
you get like a bazooka, you know, if you win
some event or you get some cannon fodder.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
But no, I don't want to do something.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
You get bragging rights with Michigan and Ohio State. You
don't get some silly trophy.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
I like when you walk.
Speaker 11 (29:49):
Off with like a bucket. It's like Minnesota someone you
walk off with the big old bucket.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
I like that stuff. No, no flags, the big oaken
bucket or something like that. No, it's silly.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
But if you do have something like that, at least
you're prepared for that moment. But that's part of the
problem with this. You know it's going to lead to something.
You know it. So for everybody says, oh, it's about
the spirit and in this grade, and no it's not.
It's not because your coach is not going to allow it,
your fan base will not allow it. What happens if
(30:22):
the fans decided come on the field everybody okay with that?
I mean, fans come on the field as Michigan's planting
the flag.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
Everybody okay with that? Huh Yeah, that's why it's silly.
You're just you're inciting.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
You one God, there's nothing better than to shut somebody
up when you're at their place and it gets quiet,
and all you do is now they may be saying
some things to you, but you.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Just wave what up the scoreboard? That crushes these people?
The opposition. We're like, good score, boarn see you hey,
we'll see you next year at our place. And you
know what, leave your flag at home. You won't be
planting it, yes, Tod and with the Ohio.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
I know what happened in other games, Arizona State and everything,
but it took so long to finally get the flag
away from the player or to just do something. But
there was already fighting going on. We all knew it
was because of the flag. Why the guy's still continuing
to run around in circles. Doesn't someone have any common
sense to say, that's the source of what's causing all this.
Why don't we pull that flag down or tell the kid?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
You know, it was like the fife and drum bugle Corps,
you know, and he's carrying the flag.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
No, no, no, we're not doing that.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
All right, Well, let me take a break. We'll get
more phone calls coming up. Our play of the day
is up next.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 13 (31:54):
Oh My God.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
Of the day, God play this is no play of
the day.
Speaker 14 (32:04):
Check this out empty set three left, two to the
right from Winston, Denver four man rush, quick throw outside.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
The ball is intercepted, intercepted by the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Down the east sideline.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
This is gonna be a house call. That is j
Kwon McMillan.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
McMillan with the pick six sealed the deal. And if
you had the Browns in six and a half ouch
Broncos had one hundred and seventy one interception return yards
on the three picks. That's here to see the Broncos
Radio Network. Here's a word of advice to Jamis Winston.
Avoid the flats. That's your play of the day. Brought
(32:43):

Did we we settle on our pole question for the
first hour of the program see no connor.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Yeah we did.
Speaker 10 (33:04):
We have the most entertaining player in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes,
Jamis Winston, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson. Right now, Josh Allen
and Jameis Winston are tied.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
You want to guess.
Speaker 10 (33:17):
Who's in the last place, Lamar Jackson. Patrick Mahomes HM
currently considered less entertaining than Josh Allen, Jameis Winston and
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Do you think it's because we've seen everything that Patrick
mahomes can do, you know, gas, all the comebacks, the
greatest capability, extending the play, dancing down the sidelines. Maybe
we've seen all of that. He is pretty I find
him to be incredibly interesting. When it gets to those
(33:48):
final five minutes of a game. That's when you see
really the ingenuity that he has out there. All right,
A couple more phone calls in here, Paul and Michigan, Hi,
Paul Woods on your mind today?
Speaker 13 (34:01):
Hey Dan five and all Preacher wanted to address the
whole quarterback saying, I think what you do you've given
the quarterbacks an advantage by letting them slide. You just
tell them if you fake a slide, you're going to
be down there, even if you continue running, and it's
going to be a five yard penalty and the down's
(34:21):
going to count, and the quarterbacks will object. Well, then
you give the rest the ability to determine whether or
not I was actually going to slide. Well, then you
tell them make it obvious, so the rest know it's obvious,
the defenders know it's obvious, and if the defender doesn't
pull up, you boot them for a few games because
you made it obvious. And so stop faking it, stop
(34:42):
taking advantage of the advantage we've given you, and go
down if you need to go down to save yourself,
and stop putting yourself in harm's way by messing it up.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
All right, thank you, Paul.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
How about if you treat it like a punt returner
with a fair catch that if you're running, you put
your hand up, say I'm sliding, Like do we have
to make it that obvious where I'm running and I
know I'm gonna slide and I just put my hand
up like that, and I can't extend the play. All
I'm doing is put my hand up to say, hey,
(35:15):
I'm not gonna don't hit me.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Yeah, Paul, the.
Speaker 11 (35:17):
NFL does not have a rule for fake sliding. If
you remember it was two years ago this week. Can
he Pickett of Pittsburgh fake slid in a game and
then they change a rule within three days NCAA for
the entire and say every team in three days they
have a rule.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I.
Speaker 10 (35:35):
Think, like, how long would it take for quarterbacks to
fake put their hand up?
Speaker 5 (35:41):
No, there's no margin for air because you're running, right.
Speaker 10 (35:45):
The difference between a fair catch is you're standing still
and you put your hand over your head right when
you're running. Nobody runs with their hands down at their side.
They run pumping their arms. How are you gonna tell
when he puts his arm up to do that?
Speaker 2 (35:57):
And when he does, you got to make it obvious
or that's on you make it obvious. You run with
your the ball in one hand, you're not running with
If you're running and gonna slide, you're not gonna be
running full speed with both arms there. You're gonna run
and you know you're gonna slide, you put your hand
up like that.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Look, we're just work shopping this.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Yeah, I mean, this maybe is discussed in the off season,
but it is an issue. And I understand the defensive
side of this, but if you lead with your forearm
up by somebody's neck or head there, you lose you know,
all doubt you do and you got two priors you
(36:35):
it felt like intent there. Uh Tom in North Carolina?
Hi Tom, welcome back.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
KDP.
Speaker 15 (36:46):
Uh yeah, I agree that Jameis Winston is an exciting player.
He's fun to watch. It makes me, you know, makes
me want to tune in. But I would I would
like to ask Dan Patrick, one of the big influential
voy is in sports, and maybe Polly will join me
in if Crusade can we can we change the Browns uniforms?
Speaker 10 (37:08):
Please?
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Wait? What's wrong with the Browns uniforms?
Speaker 16 (37:13):
I don't they're so old?
Speaker 1 (37:14):
There?
Speaker 16 (37:15):
I mean there, this is those are Jim Brown uniforms.
I mean every other team is has has you know
like these? Uh yeah, I guess reflective helmets and you know,
just really sleek and up to date units.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
Do you want Penn Steak to change their uniforms?
Speaker 15 (37:34):
Well, I mean, uh, good question.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
Thank you, Tom.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
There's certain uniforms that if if I'm a franchise now,
I know that you want to have marketing, you want
to have merchandise, and you put out a new uniform
and you know, home uniform away like the Broncos helmet
last night. Didn't like it at all. Get the blue
helmet there, get the l Way helmet on there. It
always looks great. But the Cleveland Browns, I remember when
(38:02):
the Cleveland Browns, you know, were wearing what looked like
a drab color. I mean it was brown. These these
kind of pop a little bit. I think the Browns
with the you know that chocolate brown and then you
have the orange there, it pops. I'm good with it,
fine with it, no problems whatsoever.
Speaker 11 (38:19):
Yes, a lot of people like what the Cleveland Browns
did this year. Remember about seven eight years ago they
had Browns on the leg. It was a disaster. But
now this year they went with a white face mask.
It looks like nineteen eighty two and Browns fans and
I think the NFL pretty much liked what the Browns
are doing.
Speaker 7 (38:33):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
I had no problem with it. The Broncos helmets were lame, well, nondescript.
But because you have a great blue helmet there in
the Alway blue.
Speaker 6 (38:44):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
Andrew and Washington, Hi Andrew, welcome.
Speaker 14 (38:47):
Back, Good morning, Dan Dannett's thanks for taking my call.
I mean, Jamis Winston is one of the most entertaining
players in the NFL, but I also think he's been
underpaid because he did get Jimbo Fisher a huge dehal
at Texas A and M since he won that FSU
National championship and he got that seventy six million dollars buyout.
But I wanted to take a left turn about another James,
(39:10):
Lebron James and the Lakers for clicks. They're in a
free fall. They've lost five out of the last seven games.
Dan as a shooter, Lebron James is in an O
for nineteen slump at three pointers. That's his worst slump
since his rookie season. Going oh for twenty four and
eighty points last night for the Lakers is their lowest
output since twenty seventeen in January. So I was going
(39:31):
to ask you, as a shooter, how does he get
out of this slump?
Speaker 5 (39:33):
Is it age? Is he tired?
Speaker 14 (39:35):
Did he need a limit his minute? What's the answer.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Yeah, he's he wants to play all eighty two games
and he's not going to be able to. Plus they
you know, you're always told if you're a really good shooter,
keep shooting. I would go in, stop shooting threes, go
in get some easier buckets there. But he does look tired,
absolutely and I know that you're getting the old old
(39:58):
man and starting to catch up to him father time undefeated.
I think that they have to limit minutes here, and
I want Lebron great at the end of the season.
I don't care if we win the NBA Cup. He's
averaging thirty five minutes right now. I'd love to see
if he was averaging around twenty eight minutes. He's in
the top five in minutes played. He's trying to prove
(40:22):
a point. But at what point do you say we
need to stop this, we need to do fresher. You
obviously see the results here, and as he goes, they go,
and if he's not going, they're not going. And then
they look really sluggish. They look really slow. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (40:42):
Is it kind of like, uh, we have people, Oh
I'm going to run out of time. Sorry, But maybe Lebron.
I think it's okay that he is slower at the
end of his career, you know, I know, but he's
not playing well right, Yeah, I know. I know that's
the problem that I have, Like the natural progression, yes, life, as.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
He is he is going, he'll slow down. He has
slowed down, slowed down. But I think they got to
limit his minutes here,
