Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I hope you had a great weekend. Belated Happy Father's
Day to all your fathers out there. Games all here
ready to go, the King of Comedy, Fritzy Seat and
Marv Paul Yours. Truly a lot of things to recap
eight seven seven three DP shows. We always do every Monday,
best and worst of the weekend. Once you saw that
you liked you didn't like basketball. Coming up tonight, it's

(00:26):
Game five and OKC. It's the thunder favored by nine
and a half against the Pacers. We'll explore that, and
the US Open in dramatic fashion. JJ Spahn his first major,
his second win of his career. We'll explore that as well.
Operators standing by Tyler eight seven seven three DP Show

Email ADR SDP at Danpatrick dot Com, Twitter handle a
TP show. Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank
you for letting us into your homes. That's our streaming
partner and our radio affiliates around the country. iHeartRadio. Fox

Panini America, the official trading cards of the show. This
first hour brought to you by the great folks at Maco.

(01:09):
It's a Makeovermaaco. They bring your car back to life.
Affordable paint jobs like collision repairs. Get a free estimate today.
Uh oh, better get Maco. So you got basketball coming
up tonight. The Pacers blew a great opportunity to go
up three games to one, and we might look back

(01:29):
on that. But the way this series is gone, the
way these two teams play when they're on the road.
Home teams in a series tied to two games apiece
are twenty one to ten all time in game five,
but have gone on to win the series just fifteen
to thirty one times. So it's not a given just
because OKC wins tonight that they're going to win this series.

(01:51):
But the odds are certainly tilted in their favor. And
you come back from that ten point deficit. And Shay
gilgis acted like an mvpick. He acted like a great
player thirty five points. So he's had fourteen games of
thirty or more points in the postseason in the last
sixty years. Three players have had more, and those two

(02:15):
of those players had sixteen of those games in a
postseason run, and the other one had fifteen. Michael Jordan
is the easiest one. He had sixteen in nineteen ninety two.
This player matched Michael Jordan three years later, chem Elijah
On and then Kobe had fifteen of those games in

(02:36):
two thousand and nine. The stat of the Day brought
to you by Panini America Official Trading Cards to the
Dan Patrick Show, Best and Worst of the Weekend. We'll

(02:59):
get to your phone call. Fritzy just sent me a
poll question. He said, which athlete would you want to
Be's this correct? Toid?

Speaker 3 (03:08):
No?

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Which acthlee would you rather have.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Been this past weekend? Based on what they accomplished over
his last couple of days.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Okay, so you had Shay Gilgis, Brad Marshan, and JJ Spahn.
It's not even close.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
You're going with the golf.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, Well, JJ Spahn is a champion. Shay Gilgis is
not a champion yet. Brad Marshan is a champion, but
he hasn't won that championship this year. JJ Spahn's a
champion this morning. He's a champion and he did it
in dramatic fashion. And you know, when you start to look,
there's certain courses that are the stars. When you think

(03:42):
about it. Saint Andrew's it's about the course. Augusta, It's
about the course. Oakmand It's about the course. TPC Sawgrass
because of the seventeen. It can be about the course.
There's very few courses where you go, I'm tuning in
to see the course. And that's what we did with Oakmont.
It didn't matter who was on the leaderboard and who

(04:03):
was it. It did not because this was a war
of attrition. And as rich Lerner said on the Golf
Channel last night, after JJ Spawn won, Spawn not only
beat the best, he beat the beast. And it's a
great way to sum this up. All those other players
fell to the wayside and JJ Spawn out of nowhere,

(04:23):
thirty four years of age, Los Angeles native, and he
just held on. You can't bogie five of the first
six holes and say that guy's going to win. It
doesn't happen in a major. And it felt like he
was out and then on the outside looking in. And
then you realized everybody on the outside looking in was

(04:44):
also on the inside, because it was like the field
is coming back to everybody, and the course was the star.
And you are watching some great golf. You were watching
some shaky golf, some bad golf, and it comes down
to decision making. You had the elements there with the rain,
so you're making one of the toughest courses in the

(05:06):
world even tougher, and you add the pressure of Sunday.
But JJ Spahn was wonderful and he did what you
want a champion to do. The only golfer to finish
under par, and the first US Open winner to start
his final round three consecutive holes over par, and the
fifth champion to berdie the final two holes. That's what

(05:26):
should stand out. That's what people should remember. The drive
on seventeen and ending up with a birdie, and then
the birdie putt on eighteen. Here is how it sounded.
With the winning putt, I just.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Want to cozy it up, don't need to make it.
Two putts run.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
And one of the most unlikely final round Sundays Ands
Open history, JJ spawn closes the deal with little party
at the last.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
The announcers were, you know, bracing you for it's going
to be a two putt, Like best case scenario. You
just want to cozy it down there and all of
a sudden you're watching it, and then you're watching it
and you're watching it, and then all of a sudden
he leaves the flagstick in just in case, you know,
you might go buy it, and you want to make
sure that you get a piece of it, and then
all of a sudden it goes in. But he was

(06:32):
he was very fortunate. Victor Hoblin had the very same
putt prior to his and gave him the teach, as
you know players like to talk about. That's where you
walk right behind the guy after he putted, and then
you get your teach on the speed and also the angle.
And here is JJ Spahn after the win.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
But yeah, Victor, we kind of got a good, good line,
a good read on the speed. I looked at I
was more foes on how hard he was hitting it.
I kind of knew the liner at it, but he
looked like he gave a pretty good whack because it
started raining there for the last ten to fifteen minutes,
and I just tried to pick my line and put
a good stroke on it, and I knew it was

(07:12):
gonna be a little slow, and about eight feet out
I kind of went up to like the high side
to see if it had a chance of going in.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
It was like going right in and.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
I was just in shock disbelief.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I think everybody was. But with everything that happened, you
had the rain delay and then all of a sudden,
you're kind of regrouping. It helped some players, it hurt
some players. Some of the angles the guys were hitting
from out of the rough and then you'd watch the
ball disappear. And if you've ever played in rough that's
really hot. It takes an incredible amount of strength to

(07:46):
get the ball out of the rough, and then you're
trying to hit it a couple of hundred yards. You're
trying to hit it straight, and usually when you're hitting it,
it'll grab your club and you know, twist it to
the left if you're a right handed golfer. But congrats
to JJ Spahn because hanging in there, not you know,
hanging your head down, because you know you're getting embarrassed,

(08:08):
like I'm boging all these holes, and then you start
to look around. He goes anybody doing anything, and the
answer was no. We kept waiting. Scottie Scheffler always kind
of there, and then all of a sudden, John Rahm,
he's kind of there. You know, if you go to
the second page of the leader board. You're like, oh, now,
that looks like a major championship. The top of the

(08:28):
leaderboard did not. But JJ spawn you survived as you
beat the best and beat the beast. Baseball news the
Red Sox shipping Rafael Divers to the Giants. Diva is
what they're calling him. The Devs like how the Red
Sox fans calling him a diva? But Rafael Devers goes

(08:50):
to the Giants, and hey, good for the Giants. They're
in a pennant race with the Dodgers. As for the
Red Sox, you know, you sweep the Yankees and all
of a sudden you're like, hey, we feel wait, what
did we do? Yeah, and you go back to when
they brought in Alex Bregman and you're like, we can't
afford to not sign this guy. But he plays third base. Hey, hey, Raphael,

(09:13):
can you play d h or first?

Speaker 7 (09:15):
And I think that's when the relationship was kind of
fractured for a guy that you're paying three hundred million
dollars too, But so Red Sox ship him out and
the Giants gladly take him.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Desmond Baine was trending over the weekend. He got traded
from Memphis in case you're not familiar with Desmond Bane
three points specialist, and he goes to Orlando for a
lot of draft picks and Cole Anthony and Kentavious Coldwell
Pope's contract. And I didn't understand this from Orlando. Now

(09:49):
I know that they're one of the worst three point
shooting teams in basketball. You gave up the draft picks,
and it feels like, unless it's a lottery pick, these
teams don't care about draft pick anymore. Cole Anthony greg
Anthony's son, who's played pretty well. He's had moments where
he's played pretty well. This kind of signals a rebuild
for Memphis, which we'll talk about that in a moment.

(10:12):
But Hallo Bancaro was injured, missed quite a few games,
and even Franz Wagner I think missed like twenty two games.
So they went forty one and forty one their playoff
team with those guys, Are they winning fifty games? Yes,
in my opinion, yes, if those guys are going to

(10:34):
play in those games, but they were injured, You're going
to trade for a guy who is a good three
point shooter, Okay, is he the missing piece for you.
I don't think so, but you're giving up draft picks
and for Memphis, Now what do you do? It feels
like Jaron Jackson Junior, the third can be had as well.

(10:54):
He'd be a great addition for a team that you
know he can be a rim protector. He can also
you know, he's a good, good shooter as well. But
that might leave John Morant in Memphis. That doesn't sound
good if you leave John Morant alone in Memphis. But
Desmond Bane on the move there for the Orlando Magic, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 8 (11:16):
The Grizzlies were the two seed maybe about three years ago. Yeah, man,
how the Mighty have fallen?

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yeah? Yeah, that one one? It was like, wait, they
got what for Desmond Bane? Wow? Like, I don't know,
remember when Rudy Gobert got traded what was that four
or five first round picks? And then I'm thinking Desmond
Bane four and you get two players? Okay. I had
to look at his stats and it feels like everybody

(11:44):
averages between eighteen twenty two nowadays in the NBA.

Speaker 8 (11:48):
Yes, mar when I saw that Desmond Bane got traded
and for who and what he got traded for, I said, wait, wait, guys,
you guys misspelled Kevin Durant because not all these guys
were Desmond Bane. I like Desmond Ban, but four first
round plus two players.

Speaker 9 (12:02):
Yes, Paul, it seems to be the new trend the
past five years. I sent a massive first round picks
that you think are going to be in the bottom
fifteen or ten of the of the draft. And if
you look at the draft right now, most of the
picks from thirteen to thirty have been traded. All but
two of them have been traded.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Has been Bane. Yeah, I I had to go look
at his stats because I was thinking, all right, I
got to reintroduce myself to his game, and then I
realized Orlando's terrible at three point shooting, and he's, you know,
maybe a forty point three point a forty percent three
point shooter, So all right, Yeah, I want Jalen Suggs

(12:43):
to stay healthy, and Paolo ben he Own just stay healthy,
and Franz Wagner. That would help out a lot. But
you're already a playoff team. I just don't know if
this is like I'd rather have Jaren Jackson junior. If
I was Orlando, then I would Desmond Bay Marvin. You
look puzzled there.

Speaker 8 (13:03):
Yeah, you can't give him up. You can give up
Desmond Bean.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Yeah, well what do these guys go for now? I
don't know what it would cost to get somebody like that,
somebody who's twenty six, twenty seven years of age, who's
really good or an All Star. I don't know what.
How many draft picks are you giving up? Like what's
Kevin durantworth? Now?

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
We keep hearing he's going to be traded, and boy,
the networks are just dying for him to go to
the Knicks. They're just dying. And now we hear you know,
Shams came on maybe McAfee and said, now it's like
Houston and it's Minnesota and maybe one other team, Like, no,
the Knicks don't even have their coach yet. Gilbert Arenas,

(13:48):
who is a frequent guest on the show We Love
Gil's Arena, he said he thinks he has a conspiracy theory.
He thinks the Knicks are going after all these coaches
that they know they can't get. Everybody had you know,
teams have said no, we're not going to let you
talk to our coach. Because he thinks that Jalen Brunson's

(14:09):
dad is going to be the Well we tried everybody,
Now we're going to give it to Jalen Brunson's dad,
Rick Brunson, who's on the coaching staff as a uh
de facto like we tried, we couldn't get. But Rick's
gonna coach now. Whether that's true or not, I'm still
waiting to see what happens with Jason Kidd in Dallas.

(14:32):
I guess until he signs a contract extension, then maybe
there's negotiations going on with that. But if I'm Jay Kidd,
I don't want out of Dallas. I wouldn't want to
leave Dallas with a franchise player coming in New York. Hey,
if you win, great, But there's a lot of dead bodies,
a lot of dead bodies there, all right, So we'll

(14:54):
have more on the NBA, We'll have more on golf.
We have some football. George Kittle, Niners tight end, will
join us. Best and Worst of the Weekend Show. Hey,
Tani is back pitching, as Dodger fans get to see
him for the first time pitching. I think that's shit
to start seating. You got a poll question today?

Speaker 7 (15:13):
Heck yeah, we're going with best of the weekend. We'll
figure that out after the ring. Oh okay, all right,
we'll do that. We'll come up with the poll question
phone calls as well. Just getting started on this Monday.
Glad to have you part of the program. Back after this.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
See now is the honors for the pole question for
the first out?

Speaker 7 (16:38):
Yeah, I feel like the t O Dubs already kind
of threw one out there, but Paul sent this one in.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Who slash?

Speaker 7 (16:44):
What had the best weekend? JJ spawn Thunder had a
great weekend? Florida Panthers, the w NBA, perhaps other yeater neither.
It has to be JJS pawn. He won the US Open,
He birdied the final home out of nowhere. Yes, what

(17:07):
were the odds?

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Did he have?

Speaker 11 (17:08):
Odds?

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Did you say that already? I don't know what his
odds were to start the week? Yeah, pre tournament. Now, yeah, Pauly.

Speaker 9 (17:15):
Plus thirteen thousand, you put one hundred on him to win?
You win twelve five to thirteen thousand.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
That's how bad. But if you think about it this weekend, now,
Shay Gilches stood out on Friday, Brad Marshan stood out
like they're they're known in their respective sports. Raphael Devers,
you know, trending, Desmond Baine trending, JJ Spahd trending. And
Devers is a good player. He was second in baseball

(17:41):
and walks and tied for third in RBIs. Okay, you
know the numbers are pretty good for him, and he
said three time all start. It was like, first of all,
they're paying three hundred million dollars to that guy. And
I thought the Red Sox were going to be the
team to beat in the East this year. And I
know the timing was weird. You know, you end up

(18:04):
sweeping the Yankees and now all of a sudden, you're going,
wait a minute, we just traded him away. And sometimes
you put up with a problem player or maybe a
disgruntled player. He was still playing. Well. That was just
the surprising part of it is you're not and sometimes
like you could put up with Manny Ramirez being a knucklehead,

(18:26):
you know, because he was manning, you know, you know,
Manny being manning. But Rafael Devers is okay, nice player,
but this much attention, see you start to look at
you know, Desmond Vane out of nowhere, and then JJ
spawn out of nowhere, and now Rafael Dever is going

(18:46):
to the Giant. So it was kind of a strange weekend.
But let me go back to Oka, see because I
always talk about what do you do when everybody knows
you're trying to do something. Shay Gil just did it.
He's scoring fifteen of your last sixteen points. And the Pacers,
their big names, didn't do anything. Pasco Siakam I think

(19:08):
had one shot in the fourth quarter. He got subbed
out at one point. Great players, that's how you become great.
We see it right in front of us. Not what
you do in Sacramento in December. It's right now in
the moment, and Jay Gilgess has answered every single question.

(19:29):
I don't know if he's had a bad game, he's
had some better games, but he's he's gonna get you
thirty four a night, and it's over unders thirty four
and a half tonight and he's doing it without three pointers.
It's just kind of old school basketball. But down the stretch,

(19:50):
Pacers had no answer for him.

Speaker 9 (19:53):
Yeah, Pauling, I'm looking at the play by play with
three minutes left on the clock Friday night. It's one
O three ninety nine pacers and they have the ball,
and they found a way to score one point in
three minutes and twenty seconds.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Yeah, yeah, that's gonna haunt them. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (20:10):
You've been in the finals once in the past quarter century,
you kind of I don't use the word luck, but
opportunity got you into the finals in your own work.
And three minutes and twenty seconds without with one point.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
And just because okay See is favored to win tonight,
doesn't mean Indiana can't win this. Indiana has proven they
can win on the road. But then okay See can
win on the road as well. But nine and a
half it's a big number there. Indiana had it had
and we have credited them. I have with their fourth
quarter play and this time and let them down, all right, see,

(20:47):
And so any other poll questions because I think jj
spawn is your overwhelming winner, well.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
I feel like we should have one off of the
Desmond Baine trade, okay, because there are people saying that
it's actually a good move for Orlando.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
I just like that wouldn't have been the guy that
I think I would given up first round draft picks.
And then two players. I mean I got a factor in.
How many games did Paolo Bankero missed? Did he miss
like forty games last year? And then Franz Wagner, I
think missed twenty two? So those are your two best
players and you won forty one games? H will they

(21:30):
have won fifty with those two guys, I believe, So
what do you really need? I know you're not a
great three point shooting team, but and maybe they're not done. Yeah,
they got it. That's a young, young roster there.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
It does seem to sort of signal intent of we're
trying to grow this instead of just being a sort
of waystation for players coming and going. It does feel like,
you know what, they're trying to build a winner. Yeah,
which I would appreciate, I think as a Magic fan.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Yeah, yeah, I'm fine with that. How many games did
Paolo ben Caro miss last year?

Speaker 8 (22:07):
He played in forty six? Okay, so miss up half
the season Baska, Yeah, he's your best player. The fact
they made the playoffs is pretty remarkable. Franz Wagner, I
think missed twenty two games.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Okay, does that sound right?

Speaker 8 (22:23):
Yes, Marvin, And I think if you're Orlando, you see
the Detroit Pistons make a big jump, like if they
can do it, we can definitely make a big jump.
And you see the Knicks and the Pacers get to
the finals? Why not us? And I guess he's the
missing piece Desmond being.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
I don't know. I don't, I don't. I don't think
i'd go that far. Is he a good addition? Yes,
missing piece? Yeah? See, it's a need that they have, right.
Is it more about.

Speaker 7 (22:55):
Bane the player or the spot that he occupies in
valleys value? It's really more about being a shooter that's
so valuable, and he's the guy they could get that
fills that spot, right, So it's not just him, it's
what the role that they needed.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Yeah, And it's probably because you have to go wayman
Desmond Main plays for So maybe it's name recognition. Maybe
I'm being a name elitist here, like Desmond Bain.

Speaker 9 (23:25):
Yeah, pauling Desmond Bain, though last year averaged twenty three
and Cole Anthony's careers kind of cooled off. His second
year in the league. He was averaging sixteen and seven
really looked like a promising player. He barely starts anymore.
He's down to like nine points per game. I think
it's a lot about the people don't care about draft
picks outside the top fifteen. It feels like a bigger

(23:45):
trade than it is because you hear four first round
draft picks.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Franz Wagner missed twenty two games. You love say anything? Yes,
Ron Wagner, that would be a great sports center name
for you. Frank Wagner doesn't impress me after neck guy,
Frank Wagner. Frank Wagner, Yes, Todd.

Speaker 12 (24:04):
Frank Wagner says like someone you're throwing the boxing ring
for an easy wing a knockout in like the early
second round.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yeah, who's Tyson fighting? Frank Wagner. Oh, that'll end in
the first round. When's that guy ever gonna fight? Somebody? Real?
Todd's got mock headlines with JJ spawn winning the US Open.
All right, Todd, here we go.

Speaker 11 (24:23):
All right, we got.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Spawn in the USA. Let's he plays for USA.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
It's like born in the USA.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Yeah, like our friend Bruce Okay, spawned to be Alive.

Speaker 12 (24:31):
That was a popular song back in the day. It'sporned
to be alive. Couldn't have spawned it up any better.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
The way things ended, couldn't have spawned up any better.
To your spawn, JJ, well done, a spawn in their side.
That's how the field would feel. Thorn spawn spawn.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
No, no, no, we're not spawn.

Speaker 7 (24:48):
He I like that, but like Bourne wasn't bad, but
sporn JJ sporn pretty close.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
No it's not, but I like watching spawn spawn.

Speaker 7 (24:59):
Go back to what a spawn in their son's just
to be clear, like orn spawn, toot your spawn. It's
not called you don't toot a horn, right, it's a
horn brook We toot a horn.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
You just can't just say you know what, you're right?
You got me?

Speaker 1 (25:17):
What about me?

Speaker 4 (25:18):
So spawning got turned on by golf.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
That's almost funny.

Speaker 7 (25:21):
It's still the wrong rhyme, though, there's as far as
I'm aware, there's no arm this spawn.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Okay, all right, I would I'm sorry.

Speaker 7 (25:33):
I know that we do a lot on this, but
I find Todd's inability to rhyme fascinating.

Speaker 9 (25:37):
Especially in a bit where rhyming is the it's.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
The whole point, that's true.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Let me get a couple of sporn in the USA.
I guess correct, Yeah, none of so None of this work.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
None of them work.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
They're all based on orn sound.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
It's spawn in the us A.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
That's a tough rhyme.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
And by the way, you know bears spawn ly I
brought it back full circle. I'm not going to give
you a blue fiet no because you thought that bears spawned.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
I know what you did with the salmon versus the
bear spawn. I'm still getting tweets about that. What school
is it go too? Where'd you graduate?

Speaker 2 (26:17):
You went to NYU it did?

Speaker 4 (26:19):
I missed the spawn bear salmon class.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Gush in La leads his soft good morning, Gush, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (26:27):
Good more than mister Patrick bed you're making me follow
that bit up man. That's that'sficult. It's tough stuff right there.
I hope you and the boys had a great Father's
Day weekend. H You know what a lot of interns
in the world of Lade. You know, I'm miss picking
of the positivity. I'm not going to talk about the bad,
like the trains that went down, but you know, my

(26:48):
Dodgers were fain some unertainty on Friday night. They were
tired of the division leaders, and they come back to
take two out of three from San Francisco, which is great.
It's awesome. Also a little bonus was that put by
JJ spawn, you know, being able to U make something
like that. I'm like sitting there watching in awe of

(27:08):
this put with so much riding on it. That's like
hating the basketball to a basketball player, be like, hey,
it's game seven, there's a second left full court shot,
go for it. And for him to be able to
do that nerves the steal on that guy awesome. And lastly,
I don't believe I've prayed as much as i'd have
in the last what sixteen hours, and saying out that

(27:28):
Joe Hayes coming back to the Mountain for twoing the
night against the Padres, I'm like, dear God, please do
not let the Padres light them up, because that'll be
the biggest news that Shoe Hayes done as a pitcher.
And it's just a horrible deal. All right, you boys,
have a great week, take.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Care, Thank you guys. And normally a pitcher who's just
a pitcher would have a rehab assignment like they would
be pitching in Double A. They do a simulated game
whatever it is. But you don't want to take show
hay Otani out of the lineup. Therefore you have to
have his simulated game with the Dodgers, and so it's different.

(28:05):
You're not pitching in a game like situation if you're
in Double A or Triple A, where you're there for
a couple of innings. And now show Heyo Tani gets
to make his Dodger debut as a pitcher, And we
thought it was going to be July, and it might
be July before he's able to actually go out there
and pitch five innings or be ticketed for a five

(28:26):
inning appearance here or best case scenario, five innings. You've
got to pitch a couple of innings here and no
simulated game as well, and you're going against the Padres.
So he makes his debut tonight, Graham and Bakersfield. Hi Graham,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 11 (28:44):
Hey? Dad?

Speaker 14 (28:45):
Five five one oh one. I had a best of
worsted an idea for the NBA off period. Okay, My
death of the weekend is that the Cubs beat the Pirates.
And my worst of the weekend we had the oiler
farm teams here Bakersfield and they lost.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
The speaking all right, and what's your idea?

Speaker 14 (29:08):
My idea for the All Star Game. Maybe just like
on a Friday night, do it like the first NBA
game with the peach baskets like they do the backup
the East Coast way back when.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
All right, well that's that's original. No dunking. There have
somebody climb the ladder and take the ball out of
the peach basket.

Speaker 9 (29:27):
They have to drivel on top of the basketball, no
caring whatsoever.

Speaker 15 (29:31):
Todd.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
We have words that will rhyme with spawn, just to
help you, like corn, pawn, gone lawn, with drawn yawn, brawn.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
That's a few of them work.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, yeah, but those they actually rhyme with spawn.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
They actually have the same sound.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, so when you say spawn in the USA, it's
not sporn.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Yeah. Anything with the orange does.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Goes on, so on and on. We're saying, yeah, how
do you not hear this?

Speaker 12 (30:06):
Maybe I hear it that I'm distubborn and it doesn't
fit my narrative of when I wanted to make the
headline that's.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Great, so I had to make it kind of No,
that's what it is.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
It's not so much some kind of ear problem as
opposed to I try to do something creative.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
If Syracuse joints is high time? What's on your mind today?

Speaker 11 (30:24):
Hey, Dan, thanks for having me back on first thing.
Happy belated probably day to you and the Fellas. I
hope you guys had a great weekend. I got a
best and then a quick question for you and the Fellas.
The best. Made the trip up the Buffalo with my
dad and brother to see Chris Stampleton and George Strait.
A great show, great weekend. Just try to make memories
before I become a member of.

Speaker 15 (30:43):
The d DC.

Speaker 11 (30:45):
I got a question now for you and the Fellas.
During the show, a gentleman behind me kept bumping me.
You know, he's deep in his cups. I let it
go out in order just try to enjoy the show.
Then I get snapped in the back of the head. Now,
in that instance, what's the top etiquette? How do you
how do you go about with that issue?

Speaker 7 (31:02):
I guess I just turn around and tried to be
respectful to him to say, hey, I'm glad you're excited
about show, but you know, kind of banging in to me.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
What did you do?

Speaker 14 (31:16):
Dan?

Speaker 11 (31:16):
I gotta be honest, not a proud moment for me.
But if George is up there singing, check yess or
known I get smacked in the back of the head.
It's go, time dropped the gloves. Now contexts. He did
not have cauliflower ears. If he did, I would have
apologized for getting in his way, but he did not.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
So wait, did you get in a fight? No? No,
no no.

Speaker 11 (31:34):
His daughter came rushing over. She saw that, you know,
he was deep in his cops and she said, Dad,
we don't need this. And so I apologized to his
daughter and it was all resolved. But I got a
little pushback from my dad and brother that maybe I
was too aggressive.

Speaker 7 (31:46):
Okay, well, you might have been in your cups too, Ty,
that's the problem.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Greg and Florida. Hi Greg, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 11 (31:56):
Hey?

Speaker 16 (31:56):
Good morning? Uh two ten plus one and handicap. I've
got a couple of comments about the US Open. Oh,
by the way, I'd like a little Sponsorito Chili's dripped
on my chicken brito And I said that to my waiter, Frank,
to the wages, Well, listen, I think that my best

(32:18):
and worst is the US Open. Best what a great finish,
fantastic birdy butt got a good read. But man's that's
such clutch on those Greens. Worst was all the massive
amount of choking on Sunday, kind of sad watch Adam
Scott and all the studs just fall down, and it
was kind of fun watch and rolling, kind of whine

(32:38):
and cry a little bit. That was kind of interesting.
And then also I think the very best all time
shot was hit at the US Open, which is overlooked.
I mean, I'm talking all time, and that was the
albatross to buy our favorite mister Patrick Reed.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Oh yeah, well you love Patrick Greed, that great personality.
That was a great shot there. Yeah, but let's factor
in the course and the rough and the weather that
when we throw out that word choking and and all
of a sudden, did America turn against Rory McElroy like
he everybody wanted him win the career Grand Slam. He
wins at the Masters, then all of a sudden, it's like, uh, Rory,

(33:17):
they don't want to meet with the media. He's a baby.
Oh he's struggling. That happened quickly. It's like, all of
a sudden, let's pile on Rory. I still think it.
You know, he's such a good interview and he cares
so much. I wish that he would meet with the media.
I know it's tough to go win there and have
somebody flay you because you didn't play well. But look,

(33:41):
you won the career Grand Slam, You're on scholarship.

Speaker 10 (33:44):
You know.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
It just feels like there's a whole lot more going
on with Rory McElroy. He held on for dear life
to win Masters. Oh dear life. It was painful to watch,
and now you kind of thought, man, that's lifted. Go
out and play. You know, your father, you're out there now.

(34:06):
It can be fun. People. You could pick up the
baton and be the Phil Mickelson that Phil Micholson should
have been before he went to live. You can be
that golf ambassador. Now. It feels like Deshamba wants to
be that, although he didn't play well either. So you
can talk about these guys who choked, and a lot

(34:26):
of those guys who choked aren't used to being up
on the leader board. You can look at the bigger
names who didn't play well. But I still wouldn't say
choke until you played that course and then you factor
in the rain and you're playing in the US Open.
Choke as a word that you won't hear me say
not this past weekend. Yes, time he's.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Throwing his clubs around, he's losing his cool.

Speaker 12 (34:49):
He's smashing it into his golf bag, which almost came
back and injured himself.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
That happens. It happens more than you think. We just
don't see that sometimes. But spend fifteen minutes with the media.
That's all. Okay, that's disappointing. It is all right. We'll
take a break. Play the day up next.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 9 (35:19):
Wapp Oh my God.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Of the Dayah my god. This is the play of
the day.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Check this out.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Here is rafuse skys one deep in the left field.
This thing is way back in.

Speaker 17 (35:35):
It is bad, gone over the red line. It is
out of here for Devers an opposite field, Homer, it
barely got over the red line. Devers launches and it
is two nothing Red Socks.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Play of the day courtesy of Nesson. So that's his
lasted bat as a member of the Red Sox. Benny
was traded to the Giants three hours later. Prior to
the trade, he was leading the Red Sox and home runs.
RBIs walks in total basis. Now he goes to the Giants,
Do you realize the Giants have not had a player

(36:11):
hit thirty or more home runs in his season since
two thousand and four, when Barry Bonds hit forty five.
Devers has now hit thirty or more home runs three
times in his nine Major league seasons. METS your Play
of the Day. Play of the Day brought to you
by the great folks at tierrac dot com, tire rack
dot com. The way tire buying should be ship fast

(36:34):
and free back by free road hazard protection, convenient installation
options like mobile tire installation tirac dot com. The way
tired buying should be. During the commercial break, we were
talking about Rory McRoy and Seaton brought up some valid points.
He's saying that, you know, maybe Rory is just saying
I'm tired of being the voice, you know, like I'm

(36:56):
speaking for the PGA Tour. I did that. I caught
flack the whole live tour. Those guys made all their money,
hundreds of millions of dollars. I stood by. I defended
the PGA Tour. Tiger had a voice in this but
he wasn't playing anymore. I was the loone guy. I
did all the interviews here. Now I just want to
go out and play golf. I'm not going to be

(37:17):
the spokesperson for the PGA Tour. And you know, maybe
that is his philosophy. I understand that, I understand the
sensitivity of that. He may feel like the PGA Tour
did some things behind his back and then he was
out there on an island. Yeah. Seen, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (37:33):
I think he also feels like he was a bit
singled out with the equipment controversy thing wheen him and
Scottie Scheffler were basically in the exact same situation, but
Rory is the one that got all of the attention
for it. So maybe he's a little upset too with
the media and it's like, I don't really need to
do this. I'm gonna play golf. I'll do whatever I
have to do. But other than that, I'm good. I'm

(37:54):
going home.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
He's such a good interview and yes, I'm asking him
to be a good interview you after being humbled by
you know, Oakmont. I know it goes along with the territory. Okay,
all of these athletes, I think you owe it to
the public to speak to the media. How long you

(38:15):
speak or what you say, that's up to you. But
I do think that they support you. They're out there,
they're fans of yours. They want to hear good and bad.
You know, everybody wins, they want to bring their kids
to the press conference. When you lose, you don't want
to be there. I understand that somebody even said, well,
how would you feel if you were interviewed after you

(38:36):
lost this sports SEMMI I go.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Fun.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
I have a blood letting every Wednesday morning after the
Tuesday sports semis. I have no problem if somebody wanted
to ask me questions about why we didn't win.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
Okay, it's not the end of the world. It's fifteen minutes.
Sometimes you work hard to get out of something like that.
To avoid something like that, you storm by the press.
You can just have the person who's there, who monitors
these press conferences fifteen minutes and I'm done. You know,

(39:14):
she or he can even say Rory's got fifteen minutes
and that's it.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
So fifteen minutes. Share about the course, maybe say something
about JJ Spahn, maybe say something about you're going to
play in Hartford whatever it is, but I think you
owe it and it's difficult, but look, I come from
the experience of being in there when Bill Buckner had
the ball go through his legs and cost help cost

(39:42):
the Red Sox in the World Series, and he sat there
and he answered the questions. When Mitch Williams gave up
the home run to Joe Carter in Toronto that won
the World Series for Toronto, Mitch Williams sat there and
answered the questions. So I've seen it firsthand, and yes,
is it painful? Is it's painful asking questions sometimes? But

(40:06):
they answered the questions and I will always appreciated that.
David in Phoenix, Hi, David.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
Hi Dan.

Speaker 15 (40:15):
Best of the weekend by far JJ spawn the putting Clinic,
not just eighteen but pretty much all four days and
my worst I may have to change to Todd's MAK headlines,
but really I think the whole number fifteen Sam Burns
with the standing water request that derailed him, I mean

(40:39):
that was just a brutal call when even his practice
swings the splashes were incredible. He didn't have a chance
after that.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Yeah, and they said it on the broadcast. I thought
the rules official made a mistake on that standing water,
you should be able to move, Satan. Would you update
the poll results from the first hour of the prog? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (41:00):
Yeah, well I just you know, I'm glad that you
asked me this becase I'm putting one up there right now.
Todd's inability to rhyme is what are the options?

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Right?

Speaker 7 (41:10):
I need help with the options. It's deliberate, okay, or what?
Just like a quirk.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
I think it's I think it's a hearing a processing thing.

Speaker 11 (41:23):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
I just don't think he hears words. Because when we
had did you know, fork off, pork off, sausage off,
how many of those did he screw up? Ten of them,
just as many as he did earlier.

Speaker 7 (41:39):
Yeah, with JJ spawn spawn or in the USA, No, no,
it's spawn.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
