Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the day before the day and we are ready
to go. It's a Meet Wednesday around here as we
bring back sixteen twenty one. Dylan is doing the cooking
and he is dressing the part. If you're watching on Peacock,
be prepared. I don't know what kind of outfit you've
got on today, but it's different. I think it's Lady
(00:27):
Pilgrim shee. Oh okay, I'm waiting until that catches on
in Brooklyn, and then then I know it's going to
be a fad there. You're actually about two weeks late
on that to Meet Friday on Wednesday, and so Dylan said,
and Dylan's in for Fritzie today, so he said, let's
just recreate the sixteen twenty one Thanksgiving Day. They called
(00:51):
it a brunch in the forest, I believe back then.
But we have cornish game hens duck with corn breads, stuffing,
butternut squash, lobster muscles, and sea bass as it better
than we do. No body, Yeah, well wait a minute,
(01:14):
are you guys okay with that?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Didn't fit? Oh wow? Yeah? Okay, all right, Marvin, you okay.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
With that.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Oh wow, unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
I'm grateful.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
No, you're not. You're not thankful. You're not grateful. I'm offended.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
Dylan is cooking this incredible feast. Yes, Paul, I love seafood.
I'm just reading the article now from the Smithsonian. I
didn't know they had shellfish and seafood at the first Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I love this so cornish game hen duck, butternut squash, soup,
lobster muscles, black sea bass. Okay, just oh buddy, for
the rest of us, all right, come on in, stay
awhile we'll talk to Brady Quinn on loan from Fox Sports,
Mike Golick, Junior, Ross Tucker stomps By as well. Your

In no particular order. That college football rankings came out
Ohio State, Indiana, A and M Georgia, Texas Tech, Oregon,
Old Miss Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Alabama. Joe Burrow says
(03:13):
he's playing if he's healthy, and Joe Burrow and the
Bengals aren't going to the playoffs, but they could decide
who wins the AFC North. Here's Joe Burrow on his
possible return.
Speaker 7 (03:26):
I understand why people feel that way, but you look
at it from my perspective. I'm a football player, and
if I get hurt, I'm going to go through the
rehab process and then I'm going to let everybody know
when I feel like I can go out there and play.
I'm not gonna ever go to somebody and say, yeah,
(03:49):
I'm healthy, but no, I don't think I don't think
I should go out there and play it. That doesn't
make a lot of sense to me. I'm not going
to live my life and play this game scared of
something happening.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Chris collins Worth yesterday said he wouldn't bring Joe Burrow back.
We'll talk to Ross Tucker and Brady Quinn and get
their opinion on this. I understand it from a variety
of angles. You can't bubble wrap him. And then how
do you pick and choose when he plays and he
doesn't play. Let's say you don't have him play the
rest of this year. What if he gets a little
(04:22):
nicked up next year, which he probably will, then do
you shut him down again? How long do you shut
him down for? You're paying him fifty million dollars And
if you want to put him out there, you have
a fan base that you have to play Kate as well,
and if you can somehow have an impact on who
wins the AFC North or who doesn't, and you get
(04:43):
to play in some big games. Big games from the
perspective of this could decide who makes the playoffs and
who doesn't. I get it, your football player, there are
inherent risks that come with playing the game, and certainly
that position. Would I play, Yeah, I would. I'd put
him out there because I want him to be able
(05:05):
to try to find some kind of rhythm a little bit,
just so we have some momentum going into next season.
You have a head coach who might not be there
next year. Here's the problem. You don't have Trey Hendricks
and your best defensive player t Higgins not playing. So
it's gonna be Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase basically. And
we saw what the Ravens did against Shadoor Sanders when
(05:27):
they blitzed just about on every down. And I imagine
if I'm the Ravens, I'm coming after Joe Burrow. Now
there's some great football coming up and really important football
Packers and Lions. I mean that feels like the which
one of you wants to be a contender? And Chiefs
and Cowboys. What's best for the NFL if the Cowboys
(05:48):
win or the Chiefs win? Because do you want the
Chiefs still alive? Do you want them maybe getting into
the playoffs or the Cowboys can be kind of on
the doorstep of making the playoffs. That's a great matchup
as well. And then the Bengals in the Ravens, which
is interesting because I'm waiting to see if Lamar Jackson
(06:09):
is going to be Lamar Jackson from a year ago.
He's not running as much as he used to and
we should probably get used to this. This might be
the Lamar Jackson two point zero. And this happens with quarterbacks,
guys who use their legs and then they get to
a certain point where they're not going to be able
to rely on those legs, or they're going to have
(06:30):
to stay in the pocket a little bit more than
what they normally do. Or those design runs. While you
have them, you just don't have them as often as
you did. But a lot of great football college football
as well, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Still no word
on what's going to happen with Lane Kiffin. I think
it's going to leak out before the game. And I
(06:51):
was on the phone with two different college football sources
last night. They didn't have an opinion. They thought that
he's gone, but they said, we have no idea where
he's going to go. But you know, Can he stay
at Old Miss? Should he stay at Old Miss? Like
those seem to be two questions with two different answers.
(07:12):
Of course he can stay, but it feels like Lane
Kiffin is out because if he was staying, I don't
I'm not going to wait until after Friday's game. If
I'm staying, I'm announcing it prior to Friday's game because
nothing is going to make that locker room explode like that.
If he says, Hey, I thought long and hard about this,
I've discussed this with my family, this is my home.
(07:35):
I'm staying here.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Boom.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Now let's go. Do you imagine Hey thought long and
hard about this and I can't pass up LSU Let's
go get him?
Speaker 8 (07:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Okay, all right, yeah. I think the reaction is going
to be kind of like you guys to our meet
Friday on a Wednesday. Okay, Coach, all right, Seeton, let's
pull question for the first hour of the program. Paul
sent this one over. Who are you rooting for the
Cowboys or the Chiefs.
Speaker 9 (08:05):
M because in general a lot of people don't root
for either.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Okay, Wow, Usually you know the answer to a question
you're going to be asking people, But I don't know
if I have well, I have the Chiefs going to
the Super Bowl. So I'm going to say the Chiefs
just because I want them to, you know, go to
the Super Bowl representing the AFC, or I predicted them
(08:32):
in the lines. I think the Cowboys winning makes it
spicier because now we have a legitimate reason to talk
about the Cowboys and they could play spoilers, slash slip
into the playoffs. It just feels like the Chiefs are
always going to be kind of in the picture because
(08:54):
nobody's great in the AFC and you have your chances.
The Colts could have done a bit, big, big favor
to everybody in the AFC by winning that game. I
still love watching Mahomes play, So I'm going to root
for the Cowboys ish because I think for content reasons
(09:15):
I would root for the Cowboys. Yeampoint.
Speaker 9 (09:17):
In the last thirteen seasons, the Chiefs have missed the
playoffs once. That's nutty, Yeah, that's Patriots.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah, what else do we have their seaton?
Speaker 10 (09:28):
Well, I think Dylan's feeling a little offended.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
So we're going to go with this pole question as well.
Speaker 10 (09:32):
Which would you prefer the original Thanksgiving menu?
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Or the one.
Speaker 10 (09:35):
We have more modern times.
Speaker 11 (09:39):
So this has more seafood. There seafood heavy. There is
venison that was heavily featured. I scoured the local areas.
I could not get venison. Okay, so my apologies.
Speaker 9 (09:50):
I'm going to call my venison guy.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
You know, I was in Vermont, this is years ago,
and a guy was going to help me move some
furniture and he was late, and he came in and
he goes, you know, I was driving here and I
saw a deer and I got out and I had
my crossbow and you know, and I will what. So
he ended up killing the deer and then you know,
(10:13):
getting venison for his freezer for the next you know,
year or so, and then came over to help me
move a chair. You actually know this guy, yes, And
I'm like, like, I'm looking to see what, like he's
got blood all over his hands or is there a
deer on the hood of the car. But he he
was saying, yeah, man, venison, it's great. He goes, I'm
(10:35):
going to make you some venison. Stew I said, okay, yeah, Pauline.
Speaker 9 (10:39):
I once said to this guy, our mutual friend, man,
crossbows are soft. I thought, he's gonna take me out.
I thought he's got a thumb gouge my eye right there.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I would never say somebody with a crossbow is soft. Now,
never say that. All right, So we'll get a poll
question here. Brady Quinn will join us on loan from
Fox Sports. The Big Games coming up this weekend. I
spent a lot of time last night, probably over an
hour with each of my college football sources, and I'm
just kind of asking questions about Penn State, and you know,
(11:10):
they both listened. They said, you know, you're probably right,
Penn State made a mistake in firing James Franklin. If
you're going to fire somebody, who are you getting and
there's a lot of pressure, you know, and you know
the fact that you're firing him in October. I don't
know if it was, hey, we have our guy to
we need to get rid of this guy. And they,
(11:32):
from what I'm told, went after Mike Elko at Texas
A and m pretty hard. But right now maybe they
don't have a leader in the clubhouse. And Matt Ruhle
was never really a candidate. From what I was told.
He used it to get a contract extension at Nebraska,
but The thing that both of these college football sources
told me is what is going on at the high
(11:54):
school level with NIL And they named names, but I'm
not going to of a football player who's in high
school and there's a bidding war between two major schools
and he has a two million he's in high school
senior year, he's got a two million dollar NIL package
(12:17):
and one school just up the ante and not necessarily
at a position where you would think you're getting two
million dollars, but plays at a you know, very good
high school and you got a bidding more. They're getting
into the the high school ranks. That's where they're starting now.
They're not waiting until you're transferring. These schools are going
(12:40):
after the high school kids. And they've been doing this again.
I don't want to be naive with this, but they
both laughed at you had these college coaches. These the collectives.
That's what I was told. The collectives are going after
these kids and paying this amount of money. But also
so if you don't go, you have to pay back.
(13:04):
If you don't stay, you have to pay back. And
I was told it was two million dollars for one player.
And they said, but this is happening all over because okay, Nil,
you know, they even said Alabama used to have the
money to pay their players, but Alabama doesn't have oil
money and they don't have tech money. This is how
(13:27):
they described it. And so you know that's where Nick
Saban was like, I'm getting out of here, like I
don't want I don't you know, I don't want to
deal with this with Nil, with transfer and all that.
And remember when he had that, he was at a
booster meeting or you know, some kind of booster meeting
in Tuscaloosa where he was saying, Hey, I mean we
got to step up and start spending like Texas A
(13:47):
and M. We got to keep up. And he's right,
because A and M is spending money. You got oil money,
you got tech money. But they both were talking about how,
you know, coaches leaving coaches, you know, you know, being
tampered with, flirting with another job, and they just said
there is really no oversight committee and it's to the
(14:07):
detriment of college football. And they also talked about there's
not going to be an expansion for the playoffs in
twenty twenty six. They think it'll happen in twenty twenty seven.
So we discussed a variety of things with coaches, with
you know, high school players, nil collect I mean crazy crazy.
They brought up Brady Quinn talking about how great Brady
(14:30):
has been helping Notre Dame. I mean he's part of
the collective team there getting money. Notre Dame is not
missing out on players. They were like, nope, they're spending money. Yes, bawling.
Speaker 9 (14:41):
If you go back ten months ago, the star quarterback
Bryce Underwood, five star quarterback, was going to go to
LSU Michigan, worked with Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle.
He's got multiple billions of dollars and supposedly his NIL
deal for four years is between ten and twelve point
five million dollars. And that was for an incoming freshman. Yeah,
(15:02):
I know, and he's got a chance this weekend to
earn it.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
That's tech money. But that's what this has come down to.
It's unlimited. The guy has an island in Hawaii. You know,
it's not what.
Speaker 9 (15:13):
They all do though, not one of the Five Islands.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 9 (15:17):
Hey it's Maui.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Yeah, doesn't Mark Zuckerberg own an island in Hawaii as well?
Speaker 9 (15:22):
Is that the thing? To do as a billionaire, even
though they're not convenient to own your own island.
Speaker 10 (15:26):
Larry Ellison owns about ninety eight percent of Lenai.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah sure, why not? I mean, what do you buy
after all of that, the fact that you make enough
money that you could buy the NFL, and you could
buy the NBA, and you could buy me like you,
you could have your own leagues. You just say, you
(15:53):
know what I'm thinking, I don't know an island. I'm
going to buy up every NFL franchise. What would that
cost you? And you start with the Cowboys at what
ten twelve billion dollars? So let's say you spend one
hundred billion dollars and you have a couple of hundred billion.
These guys are going to be trillionaires. Yeah, PAULI.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
If you said the average NFL team is worth seven
billion dollars, since two hundred and twenty billion dollars, why
them all.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
And still have money left over? I mean that's wealth.
That's crazy wealth, stupid stupid wealth. I want to be
stupid like that. Let's take a break here, Brady Quinn
will join us. We'll get to your phone calls coming up.
Settle on our poll question as well. We're back after
this on the Wednesday Thankful edition of The Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
We'll settle on our poll question. Brady Quinn will join
us momentarily Mike Golig Junior in an hour from now
in Ross Tucker from CBS Sports as well Packers, Lions, Chiefs, Cowboys, Bengals,
and the Ravens. As we bring in Brady Quinn, Fox
college football analyst, former Notre Dame quarterback. Also the show
that Precedes Hours on Fox Sports, the two Pros and
(17:48):
a cup of Joe. He's going to be at the
big House. It's Ohio State Michigan. Saturday, nine am Eastern
is when they get started, big noon kickoff. How would
you compare Notre Dame USC to Michigan and Ohio State rivalry.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Well, I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, So I've got
a pretty good idea of the differences between the two
only because of the nature of both schools, how close
they are in proximity, the types of players that they
traditionally recruit in both states, you know, the top players,
and so it's just an entirely different feel between the
two because they're both two Midwest schools. And so it's
(18:24):
not a battle of culture where you get that a
little bit with you know, Catholicism and Notre Dame in
the Midwest versus like this so cal laid bag, like
let's go out and surf and I don't want to
believe in anything, or I believe in everything. So it's
a very stark contrast between the two fan bases for
SC Notre Dame versus what you get in Michigan and
Ohio State. I mean, these are you know, two programs
(18:47):
and two schools. You know that you know each other
so well. There's so much history behind it, just in
regards to even the coaching staffs and all of that.
So I would say with Notre Dame SC, there's tradition
and there's history. There's both schools kind of honoring, at
least used to. I don't know if that tradition will continue,
but honoring kind of the differences between the two. With
(19:10):
Ohio State Michigan, I don't feel like either or honoring anything.
I feel like it's a he it's you against us,
and that's all that matters this one day every year,
and depending on the outcome, we're never going to forget
it for theder in sixty four days, regardless of how
well our team does in the playoff, for even winning
a national championship.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Michigan's an oh by the way, what nine and two?
I get they don't feel threatening, but you know, in
this game, it doesn't. I mean we've seen where better teams,
better records, doesn't matter. How dangerous is Michigan in this game.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
I think they're more dangerous than last year. I mean,
they're playing at home They've got a freshman quarterback who
oozes with talent and ability, and he's started to develop
chemistry with this freshman wide receiver Andrew marsh McCauley's coming along.
So the passing game has kind of seen more bright
spots of late than bad spots. So I would say,
if you're looking at this matchup after last year, when
(20:12):
I think Davis Warned threw for like sixty yards and
they're playing in Columbus, they were the biggest underdog they've
ever been in this rivalry. Yeah, this year, they've got
a much better team and should have a better chance
of imposing their will and doing what they do every
single time these two teams have played over the last
four years head into five years. Is Michigan's going to
(20:33):
try to make you play this game in a phone booth.
They're gonna try to win the trenches. They're gonna limit
the amount of possessions of Ohio State gets, and they're
gonna try to eliminate guys like Jeremiah Smith and Carnel
Tate and the big playability of this offense and say
we want you to try to run the football and
be better than us. We're not gonna let you win
this game throwing to two of the best players in
(20:55):
the entire country will be first round draft picks, and
we'll see if you can do it.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
If to answer, what would you ask Lane Kiffin today?
Speaker 4 (21:09):
I would ask him what is the one determining factor
in where he's going to go next? Like, what's the
number one thing you're are prioritizing most?
Speaker 2 (21:20):
But what do you think it is?
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Well, I'm a big offered one hundred million dollars contract
reportedly Dan so I would say it's it's hard for
any human being to turn down what is generational wealth
when you're offered that sort of opportunity, but also.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Says they're going to match that. So let's take money
out of this. So then what But just now it
still comes down to money with nil and collectives, you know,
the roster, all of that. But is this just I
can get more talent? There is he going to fall
not fall victim too? But Brian Kelly couldn't win a
(21:57):
national title, you know in his mind at Notre Dame.
So I'm going on LSU where I've got all of
this talent. Is that what this comes down to is
Lane Kiffin going to follow Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
I mean I think if you look at that decision
Brian Brian Kelly and retrospect now you're kind of looking
back on it like, well, that was kind of foolish.
But I think there's a stark contrast between Lane Kiff
and Brian Kelly in the sense that like Lane Kiffin
is willing to recruit, I mean, half the time he's
driving around in a nice car with the recruit in
the back, they're filming some sort of video. Brian Kelly
didn't want to do that. And so if you look
(22:28):
at what makes Lane successful at Old Miss and what
can make him successful at LSU or Florida, it's the
fact that not only do you just really have to
I mean, you can recruit nationally for a number of players,
but you don't have to go too far in that
region or in that state before you're finding some of
the best players in the country. So if it's not
money and it really comes down to your best chance
of winning a national championship, I think you'd have to
(22:50):
look at the track record of LSU head coaches and
say it's probably LSU. Then now is could it get messy?
Of course, when you have a good governor getting involved
with the conversation around the head coach had that institution.
But I do think if you look at the track
record of at orizeran Les Miles Nicksaban, if you're a
Lane Kiffen and you're saying, maybe we've hit our ceiling
at Old Miss, then LSU would be that next job
(23:11):
that comes up, and I feel like would give him
the best chance to do so.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
If USC could hire Lane Kiffen, do you think they
would do that?
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Well, let me ask you this. Over the last four years,
all right, Lane Kiffin's record, I believe so off the
top of my head, is like thirty nine and eleven.
He's got two on one in bowl games, never won
a conference championship, and the highest he's finished in the
polls is eleventh. It's probably gonna be different this year.
If you look at Lincoln Riley's record, I think he's
(23:43):
thirty four and seventeen, also two in one bowl games.
Highest he's finished his twelfth in the final poll. How
different really are they?
Speaker 2 (23:53):
It was brought up to me last night by a
college source saying, I'm.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Asking you the question, like, how different are they?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
It feels like Lane overachieved and Lincoln underachieved.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
But doesn't it take a job like a blue blood
like sc then to determine whether someone over underachieved. Like
it's kind of all upside and old miss unless you
just completely flam out. And that's where if you go
to an LSU and you're not meeting expectations, are all
I've been throwing another job that he's not up for.
But like Penn State, Penn State moved on from James
frank because theydn't feel like they could win the big game.
(24:31):
So what's the next head coach? Ton to be expected
to do? Every top ten game, every top five game.
They're expected to win, because that's what you were brought
in here to do. It wasn't to win ten eleven,
you know, twelve games and Dad.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Penn State make a mistake, Brady, in retrospect, now you've
got to find somebody who's better than James Franklin.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Yeah, I would say one the timing of it, yes,
I didn't feel like that was the right timing to
move on from James Franklin, especially the way the team's
playing now. They're obviously playing much more inspired foot ball.
Last two games they've won, and you know, they were
even close, you know, previously to that, but it just
it felt like it was a little early to throw
in the towel, even though they were on the skid.
(25:10):
And I think, if you're going to move on from
a guy like James Franklin, you better have that next
guy like loaded ready to go and not be like, well,
this is who our top target is. It's like, no,
that this should be like already done. And I understand
there's a lot of ways that this needs to work,
and that's probably not the proper way of doing it,
which is one of the reasons why I think the
(25:31):
time was terrible. Like they could have waited till at
the end of the season. They could have waited to
see how things played out. I mean, now it kind
of looks like maybe you shouldn't have fired him after if
Matt Will was your target.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Yeah, but you might he's going to win and then
keep his job. It felt like this was booster impatience
and they're like, you know, we're not gonna we got
to start winning these games. We're not winning these games,
and you know, the shelf life for him at Penn
State was expiring.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
But isn't that the truth of what college football is
right now.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah, it's very impatient.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
It's not well, it's not run by presidents and ads. Yes,
it's run by boosters.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I mean when you're talking about who's ultimately funding these rosters,
it's the rich guy who what's school there that wants
to be a part of the process. That Plarvey played
fantasy and is like, you know what, I think I
can figure this stuff out. I watched enough you know
whatever recruiting website and seeing the huddle highlights, and I
think this kid's a really good player. So you know,
I'm gonna put a bunch of money in here. So
(26:30):
that's essentially what this has become, has it not.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
I'm talking to Brady Quinn. Big noon kickoff. It'll be
at the Big House at Ohio State Michigan. They start
their coverage at nine a m. Eastern. Go to noon eastern. Unfucked.
I'm not going to name any names, but I was
told that there is a school that's getting really good
at stealing signs. Now, this isn't a Michigan Connor Stallion's.
(26:55):
This is actually somebody watching on the other sidelines and
legally stealing signs. Have you heard about this.
Speaker 13 (27:05):
Well.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
I had heard about this forever ago, because even when
you're a backup quarterback and you're on the sideline, you're
trying to steal signals during a game. I mean, that's
that's part of the game and ship. If I know
that we can shift her motion as an offense to
something and I can dictate or predict what's your coverage is,
(27:28):
of course you're gonna steal every sign possible, whether it's
from the sideline or from the player. You know, these
defensive guys not the sharpest tools in the shed. So
usually they'll be something like, hey, hey, you're like, oh,
is that a tee for to Tampa? Oh okay, great, Yeah,
we've got you there. Or hey, we're gonna, we're gonna,
we're gonna, we're gonna walk he walking. Oh oh, so
it's Manda man because you're locking man to man of
(27:50):
that guy. Gotcha, Like, of course we're gonna use that
to our advantage. Which, by the way, you know, the
whole sign stealing thing with Conner stains in Michigan. To me,
it was a Pandora's box that no one really wanted
to open because there was a lot of teams doing it.
I think since Connor Stein's has left and he's been
more emboldened to talk about it. You know, he's trading
this information with other teams and they were willing to
(28:12):
trade with him.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
I mean, it is probably the secret to college football
that not many people want to address. It's one of
the reasons why I think they needed to coach the
quarterback communication probably a long time ago, when they could
have implemented it to eliminate some of the signs signaling,
which would would help. Right if you're you know, communicating
it into your player, there really shouldn't be much signing
(28:34):
going on unless you're playing up tempo where you get
the line and you call play and you know you're
us double caated to something of that you know nature.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
It feels like Andrew luck is really really close to
being the head coach at Stanford, Like this was almost
a prep year for him. What do you think it's a.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Big time commitment. You know, I don't know Andrew personally,
obviously respect him aton as a former player.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
He's got time. What else is he doing? But but I.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Also think is being the general manager of Stanford's a
huge investment of time too. And if you're trying to
raise a family and get all these things going on,
like I don't know, do you do you want to
have to, you know, sacrifice essentially raising your kids to
raise someone else's. That's what it feels like being a
college football head coach is nowadays. When you include that,
you're not just coaching. You know, you're you're dealing with recruiting,
(29:26):
you're dealing with talent evaluation, you're dealing with nil and fundraising.
And there's a lot of hats that college football head
coaches where that does he does he need to invite
that into his life? Does he want to? And also
I think there's always this thought too, if you go
back to your alma mater and you coach there and
everything's going to work out and it's going to be perfect, well,
(29:48):
why isn't he does and it doesn't work out? And
what was if it flames out, that doesn't kind of
tarnish his feelings about it or maybe how how he's agree.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
I never hire somebody you can't fire, and we've seen
that with Bass, with Patrick Ewing, Chris Mallin, Clyde Dregsler.
Going to bring somebody back and there's going to be
that day that they go just not working out here.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
And I also think there's an element of thought that like,
even though you need to understand a landscape that you're
entering into as a head coach, if they're hiring you
this because things weren't going well and oftentimes you got
to create some sort of change and maybe you need
the outside the box thinking that comes from someone else
who's been somewhere else, Like right now, I don't know
why Bob Chesney's not getting more interviews or discussion for
a major power for head coaching job, Like if we
(30:33):
want to keep using Kurt Signetti and the turnaround they've
been able to make in two years time, and we're
all trying to figure out how they do it, It's like, well,
the guy knows how to coach because he did it
at lower levels with less resources and less talent everything else.
And he's been able to bring some of the players
to Indiana but also bring a lot of what he
was able to do been prior years with lesser teams
(30:54):
to have success on a higher level. Why are we
looking at Bob Chesney because he's just done the same
exact thing to get to the point of James Madison,
and he's continued on what Kurtz Signetti did there, and
yet like we're not hearing as much buzz about it.
So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
I think maybe Penn State, maybe Penn State.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Penn State would be a job that I think, you know,
would make a lot of sense for again, something like
Bob Chesney, someone like Jeff Mounkin. You know, you want
someone who's been able to build a program that's able
to overachieve with less and and those two guys, without
a doubt fall in that category. I know, Arms not
having as good of the year this year to go
back last year and the season that they had.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
All right, i'llly be with this, Is it better for
the Chiefs or the Cowboys to win tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Well, I mean the Chiefs really have much of an
option just because of how much Parry and.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
How like the storyline storylines.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
I think you'd say it's probably better for Dallas, right,
I mean, you get few storylines coming out of that.
Everyone expects that the Chiefs are going to be in
the mix. If they drop one, how many more can
they afford to lose? And on the flip side, Dallas
kind of getting back into that conversation. And also it's
the Dallas Cowboys, like Jerry Jones is probably gonna say
something wild out there. I mean, it could be about football,
(32:15):
could be about Thanksgiving dinner.
Speaker 13 (32:17):
You know.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Maybe he's not a fan of the Thanksgiving me. I
don't know, maybe you fall into that category. Maybe you're
one of those like, ah, it's not really for me.
I eat turkey once a year unless it's not a sandwich,
you know, So maybe he's not a Thanksgiving yet. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Safe travels. Are you gonna you get booed when you
go to Michigan, don't you?
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Yes, there's a there's a decent amount of booing. I
let them know though. You know, I only started one
game back in two thousand and five in Michigan, and
we make sure we got out of there with the victory.
So I know it's been a while. But you know,
a lot of these a lot of these young cats
don't know history. Such the young kids that talk trash.
The older fans are say, yeah, you can't really say anything,
and then Urban walks out there, they all boo him,
(32:56):
and they're just like, you can't say anything to be
there the liner and then and then and the wider
walks out there, He's like, yeah, we beat you when
you played it twos. You can't say so there's there
really should be a h trash talking. But they're Michigan fans,
so they're gonna stick their nose about you and they're
gonna make sure they talk down to you and act
like you know, they won the national championship last season,
(33:17):
even though it was actually Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Save travels.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Play nice, thank you, thank you, happy, thanks to.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Thank you, Buddy. That's Brady Quinn. Big noon kickoff, really
big noon kickoff Ohio State and Michigan on Fox. We'll
take a break. Play of the day phone calls after this.

What's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Other Thanksgiving boys A six y three and a Husky
save me the gizzard to sixty Husky. I have a
stuffing tip Birden stuffing tip for everybody, and a Super
Bowl prediction behind the face for Seaton. But first, congratulations
to the Pittsburgh River Hounds. Perfect segue for winning the
(35:34):
USL Championship. Sorry seating by your Harford would love to
get your thoughts someday about the USL going to top
tier one and competing with MLS is a good or
bad from the sport. Okay, here's my stuffing tip.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
My Italian father in.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Law diced up pepperoni and puts it in with the
stuffing and the bird. So when it cooks, all the
oil brindedness of that pepperoni is through the stuffing. It's
a game changer.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
All right, Well, thank you, Johnny. I'm not a stuffing
guy to begin with.
Speaker 10 (36:06):
Yes, Heaton kind of makes me feel like I don't
know if Johnny is still there to answer this, but
it feels like the stuffing is just gonna taste like
pepperona at that point.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Is there anything wrong with that?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Yes, PAULI I do.
Speaker 9 (36:22):
My stuffing, believe or not. I make stuffing and it's
just a light amount of Italian sausage in there for
texture and taste of that milk.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Not a stuffing guy, Oh come, I don't know, just kids,
Yeah onions.
Speaker 10 (36:35):
Wow, stuffing is possibly one A, if not one B
for me.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Yeah, the problem was then, Mom, I love you, God
rest your soul. We just turkey was dried out stuffing
a little dried out and granted, you know, she's trying
to cook for six kids. It just I don't know
certain foods that I had when I was growing up,
and I kind of carried that with me.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
That's all.
Speaker 13 (37:03):
You know.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
She did the best she could.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
She did, Yes, Marvin, is that why you're so big
on the turkey being really great?
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Okay, makes sense? Yes, yes, so not important, but go ahead.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Yes, when my wife made a turkey and I go, yeamn,
So that's how it's supposed to taste. But then my
wife said, do not say that to your mom, and
I go, no, I won't. It's our secret here. Yes,
So I think I.
Speaker 10 (37:28):
Had a bit of an opposite reaction to the way
I had food growing up, because to me, if turkey
is not completely dry, I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Oh so the tradition of it, Yeah, and I like it?
Speaker 10 (37:41):
No, yeah, like I if it's like more, uh, I
don't wet? Yes, moist, moist, thank you, that's the word
I was looking for. I hate that word.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Moist.
Speaker 10 (37:51):
I don't like it. It's gross to me. But if
it's nice and dry and I could throw some gravy
on there, perfect, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
But you know, keep in mind I didn't have seafood
growing up. I had Missus Paul's fish sticks. I'd never
had shrimp or any of that. And then that's when
I met my wife and she made a seafood pasta
her mom did, and it changed my life because I
was like, oh my god, like, wait, when is this
(38:17):
with seafood pasta? Because they did ask me if I'd
had seafood and I said, yeah, missus Paul's fish sticks,
and they thought I was joking, and then they realized
I wasn't. But man, my mom would go, oh, Danny,
you never would have eaten it, and I go, I
never had a chance, that's all, Danny. You would have
never eaten it anywhere. Yeah that's funny.
Speaker 9 (38:39):
Yeah, Paul, like you, Dan, I've dated Italian women and
did you go to the Christmas Eves shellfish dinner? You
ever have that?
Speaker 11 (38:46):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (38:46):
Yeah that is monstrous.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
We still have that.
Speaker 9 (38:48):
That's underrated.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah, having fishes, Oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
Oh let's go eat fishes and whatever.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yeah, there's it's you know, it's a feast when you
have the Italians and they're going to have something, whether
Christmas Dinner, Easter or Thanksgiving. Dan in La, good morning, Dan,
what's going on? What's on your mind today? Hey fellows
matching Buddha. I want to say happy, thankful meet we
(39:18):
lost Dan, Jim and Dayton. Hi Jim, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 13 (39:23):
Dan? I am part of your old blind guy demographic.
Grew up listening to you on WTUE, and I just
wanted to say, like many of your listeners, you've helped
me get through a really great period. I've been unemployed.
Yesterday I literally was listening to the show. I wanted
to find out what did Todd learn and got the
(39:45):
call for a job offer and had to mute the show.
But it's just been great and thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
Well, thank you, Jim. I hope you got the job
I did all right, I'm round of applause for Jim.
Happy employer. Be just I don't know what Todd learned yesterday.
He was out pretty quick. Yeah, yeah, Todd's out today.
He's uh in Amsterdam to see his daughter who's studying
(40:13):
over there. Nobody is going to enjoy Amsterdam quite like Todd.
He is mister Amsterdam. You imagine him walking by no yeah,
the red red light district, yes, yeah, going into the
coffee shops there as well, I hope he walks around
(40:35):
and is able to appreciate Amsterdam.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Yes, Marvin, who's wasted more great trips than Fritzy.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
M Well, he doesn't like to leave his room, That's
what I'm saying. Yeah, I know, I know. And I
had somebody yesterday saying Fritzy was joking about the Curtains.
I said, no, he's not. No, no, no, everybody I
think would agree. Fritzy truly was fascinated by the Curtains family.
Speaker 10 (41:02):
Right now, It's like, oh, we're going to the Reis Museum,
so okay, see you guys later.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
I'll be here.
Speaker 10 (41:06):
Let me know when dinner's ready.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
