Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yes, we will dive.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Into Shador Sanders and why he fell and some of
the surprises, highs and lows of the draft coming up
and tonight. Cabs, Heat, Rockets, Warriors watching basketball yesterday. Over
the weekend, the thunder are gonna have a lot of
time to rest, although as a young team you probably
don't want to rest too much. The Cabs up three

(01:28):
to zero in the Heat, Nuggets and Clippers series has
been wonderful, ti to two games a piece. The Warriors
lead the Rockets two games to one. Nick's got a
gift at the buzzer as they beat the Pistons three
to one and the Timberwolves over the Lakers. Yesterday afternoon,
They're up three games to one, Magic and Celtics. It's
Boston three games to one, Pacers in the Bucks three

(01:51):
games to one, and it looks like Dame Lillard's season
is over. And not sure the extent of that injury,
but it certainly looked bad. I did watch a lot
of the Lakers game because well, we were trying to
see if the Lakers are for real and I think
there was a stretch when they won eight games in
a row and I said, if they continue to play defense,

(02:12):
and I thought they had depth, that they would be
able to go against these younger teams. Minnesota's a younger team,
Oklahoma City's a younger team, Houston's a younger team. You
got to have that energy, and they did not have
that energy. JJ Reddick didn't make a substitution in the
second half, and Lebron looks spent. Luca still, I guess

(02:32):
recovering from flu like symptoms.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
And you cannot allow.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Anthony Edwards to get hot, to get confident. He is
one of those guys there's only a couple in the league.
When he goes, you're not going to stop him. And
he has energy and he gets the crowd into it.
He's not afraid of anybody on the floor. And you
saw that yesterday. Lebron looked tired. Lebron had a bad,

(02:58):
bad sequence with a t terrible three and then a
lazy inbounds pass. They do have a chance at the
very end, and I got Austin Reeves in the corner.
That's why you're in the corner. Get your feet set
to take that three pointer. You can win the game.
You get the ball out of Lebron's hands, out of
Luca's hands, you get it into Austin Reeves hands. He's

(03:19):
in the corner, he takes an off balance three, he's
not even squared up to the basket. And really that's
one of those moments that that'll come back and haunt
them because now they're down three games to one. Here's
Lebron james On not scoring in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
I mean, we have some really good looks. I mean,
Luca missed a you know, a point blank layup, you know,
to put us up seven. You know, I missed a
point blank layup to put us up four. You know,
we had a couple opportunities. I don't think fatigue. Fatigue
had anything.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
To do with that.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
We just we just missed him some point blank shots.

Speaker 6 (03:55):
You know.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
You know, we were getting to what we wanted to
get into, and we just wanted able to convert.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Okay, if it works then, you know, not substituting, then
we're probably saying, Wow, that was a brave coaching decision
by JJ Reddick, who had this to say defending his strategy.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
But let's just start with Luca got tripped. I mean
that was a blatant trip. He doesn't just fall on
his own. We watched it. You know, he gets tripped.
So we should have bet the free throw line.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
You know, you not.

Speaker 7 (04:23):
That's not an excuse for why we lost, but we
felt and you know, we had a chance to go up.
You work on the endgame stuff, you know, you draw
it up and you tell guys very specific things. We
didn't execute it and very obvious we didn't execute it.
So I don't know what that's my only advantage point.
You know, we just didn't execute it.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Well, you didn't substitute, and they looked tired, certainly Lebron did.
And you know, Luca has been under the weather. I
just got to figure you put somebody in, just give
him a little bit of a breather, because Anthony Edwards
and nas reed, I mean they got guys who were
us going to be a high motor guy. Luca didn't

(05:04):
get tripped. Luca stepped on the defender's shoe, That's what happened.
So he didn't get tripped, and so there should have
been free throws there. Austin Reeves wasn't ready to shoot three.
I look at his you know, his form terrible. Lebron
takes a deep three, Lebron with a lazy inbounds pass.

(05:24):
Lebron gets called for the foul against Anthony Edwards. That's
where fatigue comes in, where you do things and you
don't go all the way through. You missed the three.
The inbounds pass was terrible, and you cost yourself. You
to keep up with these young teams in the West,
you do need a little bit of depth and Lakers

(05:47):
did not rely on any of that depth in the
second half.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
So they're down three games to one.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
But you start to look at this, Okay, soe he's
got more rest here.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Now. I thought Golden State beat Houston.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
I think Houston's on a fact finding mission of let's
figure out now what we do next year because we're
not going to win the title. But you know, Golden State,
let's see if Jimmy Butler is able to play Celtics
that they're gonna put away Orlando. The Cabs looking good
against Miami, you know, so there's there's not a lot

(06:21):
of drama other than what we saw with OKC in
Denver the Clippers and Denver has been great. I mean,
that's spirited. That's back and forth, a couple of possessions.
It feels like every single game and some basketball coming
up tonight eight seven to seven, three DP show. We'll
get to your phone calls. Best and worst of the weekend.

(06:42):
What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. But
the Timberwolves rallying from twelve down late in the third quarter,
and Minnesota outscored the Lakers in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
So far, so so far.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
In all these games, Minnesota's outscored the Lakers in the
fourth quarter by combined one oh five to sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Whoa stead of a day?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Stand of a day?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Stanata a day stand of a day? This is the
stant of the day. Knowing those numbers.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
That comes back to fatigue to a certain degree, That
comes back to depth to a certain degree. You're getting
blown out in the fourth quarter by a younger team.
Odds to win the title, it's still the Thunder and
the Celtics the prohibitive favorites. Then it's the Calves, and
then after that it's a distant Golden State and the Clippers.

(07:43):
By the way, it's so interesting the number of people
NBA friends that I have, They're like.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Hey about Kawhi Leonard.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
I go, no one ever said anything negative about Kawhi
Leonard when he plays. It's just he doesn't play. So yeah,
when he does play, I expect him to be great.
It's just I don't expect him to play. But he's
a wonderful player. But we kind of forgot about him

(08:13):
and then all of a sudden he puts up you know,
thirty and we're like about that. Kawhi Leonard, go, Yes,
he's supposed to be great. Just play more than thirty
seven games this year. That's not asking too much. Okay, Seatan,
let's pull question today.

Speaker 8 (08:32):
Well he got one here from Marvin this one, we
might as well jump right ahead to it. Now that
the NFL Draft is over. Who do you want to
see in Hard Knocks this season? Oh?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Cleveland? I mean right, Cleveland. That's it, Cleveland. I'm close. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
But it was one of those stories that I wanted
it to go away. But if your NFL network and
the mothership, you didn't want it to go away because
the number of people who stayed tuned to the weekend
the Friday and Saturday of the NFL Draft, and ratings
were up I think forty percent for the second day

(09:11):
of the draft or the final.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Day of the draft.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
That's unheard of. But it's because of one story, one player,
shaud Or Sanders, and the number of revisionist history experts
who've come out to tell us, now, why should Or
Sanders dropped? Where were you guys before the draft? Where

(09:36):
was everybody before this happened? The only thing I told
you was at the end of the show on Thursday,
prior to the first round, my source said, I don't
have a first round great on him.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
That was it, And he.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Did say this wasn't he didn't look at the interviewing
or how poorly should do Or Sanders interviewed? He said,
I'm just looking at football stuff. He goes, I'm looking
at what I saw. Now he was at the Shrine Bowl,
and you know, shod Or didn't do any of the
drills down there, and they felt that he was a
little stand offish with that. Or Hey, I know where

(10:11):
I'm going, where I'm going to be drafted. You know,
I'll put up with this sort of dog and pony show.
But you start to hear these stories that he's doing
a FaceTime while he's in an interview with the Giants,
with the team meeting. That would be a red flag.
But do I think this is a league wide conspiracy?

(10:32):
Do I think it's collusion? I don't because the NFL
is cutthroat. These coaches know they get two years maybe
three at the most to be able to hold onto
their jobs or gms.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Do I think that everybody went.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Hey, I'm not taking him, I'm not taking him, I'm
not taking him. The one team that really surprised me
who did not take him was the Raiders because Tom
Brady's now in charge. Tom Brady is known Shador Sanders
a long time. He has helped mentor him, he knows him,
and they do have Geno Smith. But I thought if

(11:09):
any team who knows him and has the opportunity to
draft him, it's the Raiders. Because of tom Brady. How
many times did they pass on him? And they eventually
took a couple of quarterbacks at the end of the draft.
That surprised me. I think Cleveland. Look, do I think

(11:30):
the owner said We're going to go up and get
him for whatever reason?

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Yes, I do.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
I think this was a Jimmy Haslam telling the GM
and the coach, let's go get him. You know, let's
let's stop this. He has a relationship with Dion. They
developed a relationship during the whole draft process. But I
do like that landing spot for him. I would not
be surprised at all if Shadoor Sanders starts a game

(11:55):
this year, at least one game with Cleveland. In fact,
if you said over under one half games for Shador Sanders,
I might go over. We've seen these guys who are fourth, fifth,
sixth round picks now in the last couple of years
they get a chance to start, and I think shad
Or Sanders will get a chance to start. Did he

(12:16):
get humbled, Yes, he did. I thought that that's where
he was going to go. It felt like that. I
certainly felt that he was going to I thought he
was going to go first pick, second round. I just
thought that that made sense. But it comes back to
a lot of different things that it felt like the
guys who do mock drafts, all they did is take
whatever was told to them and then they just kept

(12:38):
spitting it back out. Hey, it's shad Or Sanders. He
might go three, he might go two. I mean, we
put the over under it five and a half. I
didn't know it be five and a half rounds. Vegas
had it eight and a half. We thought he was
going to go to the Saints, and then all of
a sudden. This is where you get the professions to

(13:01):
look at a draft prospect, not guys who are mocked
draft people. Okay, a lot of that's for clicks, and
there's a mock draft for next year already out.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
It's big business. We understand all of that.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
But when you get the guys whose jobs are to
analyze this, that their job is like the mock draft.
Guys don't get fired. If a scout screws up, the
scout gets fired. That's where you get real intel. Now
it takes a while to get that intel. I'm still
working on some Cleveland Brown's intel. But you know, that's

(13:35):
where you get guys who come in and go, hey,
I see this or I don't see that. You know
his arm strength, it's not great. Everybody kept saying the
same thing. He's tough, and he is. I put him
third on my Heisman ballot. He was tough in an
offensive line that wasn't very good. He did have a bailout,
certainly with a one great receiver and a very good

(13:57):
receiver didn't have a running game at all. But some
of the things that were said Nick Bombgardner of The Athletic,
he was talking about how Shadoor Sanders he basically said
to teams, look at the tape. I don't need to
be working out. And he goes on to say in
his article on The Athletic, you cannot simply declare yourself

(14:20):
something you aren't and hope nobody checks on it. H
Todd McShay had some things to say about this about
what happened with the Giants. It didn't go well, frustration
with him not being prepared, basically didn't want to go

(14:40):
through what everybody else went through. And then the Giants
traded up to take Jackson Dart from Ole Miss Bombgardner
goes on to write, the reality here is that Shadoor
Sanders is a good football player, a quality prospect, and
someone who could eventually turn into a function old starter

(15:01):
so long as he's surrounded by talent and a strong
offensive line. But the questions about his arm, talent size,
pocket processing, and general over confidence were very real.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
All right. He had another.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Draft analysts who said personality nitpicks wouldn't be an issue
if he had put together a better tape. One evaluator
said that Sanders would have gotten a third round grade
in a year with better QB prospects. Now, I do
believe that. I think he was elevated because there weren't
great quarterbacks and cam Ward would have been the fifth

(15:40):
or sixth quarterback last year, So where would Shadoor Sanders
have been on that list? He might have been the
eighth or ninth quarterback taken. There were other quarterbacks the
teams felt more comfortable with. Jackson Dart is probably a
better athlete than Shador. Jackson Dart is a really good quarterback.
Thought he was going to be a first round pick.

(16:02):
Did I think Shador was going to fall this far?

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Absolutely not. But you go back to how good are you?

Speaker 3 (16:10):
And you know there's a sliding scale of productivity, and
then you have this side show like Tim Tebow. Tim
Tebow was not going to be brought in by teams
and they would say this, They didn't want more attention
for their backup quarterback than their starting quarterback. So it
does happen Cam Newton same way. I was just surprised.

(16:33):
I thought that in a draft that didn't have great quarterbacks,
maybe somebody's going to take a chance. Now, Dylan Gabriel
at Oregon is a better athlete than Shador Sanders. He
has more passing yards and more passing touchdowns than anybody
in the history of college football. He's a Russell Wilson type,
left handed and very athletic. Cleveland takes him. So that

(16:59):
quarterback who is going to be interesting. You're gonna have
Joe Flacco in there, be like a daycare. You know,
he's in there, and he's forty years of age, and
he's got all these younger guys in there. Remember they
traded for Kenny Pickett, like, and you still have Deshaun Watson.
It's so Brownsian to do what they did. They congratulations,

(17:20):
they did a wonderful job. But I do think Shadoor
Sanders went to the right place for him because he
can prove himself. They don't have proven talent in that
room except for Joe. But Joe's forty and a man.
So all right, So at a lot to talk about.
Best and worst to the weekend, settle on a poll question.

(17:41):

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Well settle on a poll question. Your phone call is
always welcome, as we always do best and worst. To
the weekend. A lot of quarterbacks who were drafted. You
had cam Ward, of course, in Jackson, Dart, Tyler Schuck,
Jaln Milroe. I love Seattle taking Jaln Milroe thought it
was great. Dylan Gabriel goes, Schador Sanders goes, let's see

(19:15):
Kyle McCord of Syracuse. Will Howard went to the Steelers.
I think that was a great pick. He might play,
but it kind of re emphasized what I thought that
they're waiting for Aaron Rodgers. I don't want to say
they're praying for Aaron Rodgers, but they had an opportunity
to take a quarterback at numerous times and chose not to.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
But quinn Ewers going on the seventh round. That was
the surprise.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Graham Mertz from Florida, who was at Wisconsin. Riley Leonard
at Notre Dame went the sixth round.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Here.

Speaker 8 (19:53):
Yes, I think it's crazy that Shador was taken in
the fifth round and he was only the fifth quarterback
to go. Usually have ten fifteen quarterbacks taken by then,
but he was. We're talking all about how he fell.
I was expected to see a dozen quarterbacks before him,
but he was only the fifth, and that.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Was by the fifth round. That's crazy. It just weren't
a lot of great quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Maybe there was one great quarterback, maybe not any maybe
a couple of good quarterbacks.

Speaker 8 (20:17):
The sixth quarterback taken.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Whatever it was.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, I told Paulia, I said, go back and look
at some of the mock drafts leading up to the draft.
Where was the furthest they saw Dion Sun dropping.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
I got a.

Speaker 11 (20:31):
Dozen mock drafts from early last week from serious NFL people.
The worst I could find is him going thirty fifth overall,
just a touch in the second round. What's even more
weird or equally weird. Quinn Yours was a second or
third round draft pick a week ago. Two weeks ago,
he went in the seventh.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
That's a drastic fall.

Speaker 11 (20:48):
There's a guy who passed on five or six million
to stay in college football to leave early.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah, I mean I get it that you know your
your hype coming out of high school. He went early
to Ohio State didn't work out, he went to Texas.
He was first, the first NIL player. It feels like
in college football, but yet, once again, there are people

(21:14):
who study the draft, but are you able to do
what the scouts do? You get all of that information,
and a lot of times it feels like nobody wants
to be the outlier and go, you know, this guy
isn't that good, or this guy is really good. I
mean I remember the draft reports, prospectus on Cam Newton.

(21:36):
They were all over the place. And then I don't know,
is he a good enough passer? Is he I don't know?
He knows how to play football. He won a Heisman Trophy,
a national title, got a factor that in a little
bit here. But do I think and it was the
number one question I got from people, do you think
this was collusion with Shad or Sanders? And I don't

(21:59):
think it is. You know, people put out the worries
this race, you know, I mean, not everything is racial
like it could be. Maybe we're just assessing him and
because of Dion. Then Dion's got a lot of friends
in the media and there are a lot of people
who are hyping him up. Well, he's going to get
his opportunity here. When you go into a locker room,

(22:22):
it's a democracy. All they want to know is can
you play?

Speaker 2 (22:26):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
I mean, look at Tennessee with Will Levis. He couldn't play.
He wasn't ready to play. They moved on and got
a number one pick, got Cam wore. They said, it's
not going to work out. He didn't get a lot
of time.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
They move on.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Josh Rosen didn't take long. Now you're going to bring
in a quarterback, so you go. Once you go in,
all they care is can you help them win a
football game? That's it?

Speaker 8 (22:57):
Yeah, I think Josh Rosen that is just it's still
it is.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
It is mean spirited.

Speaker 8 (23:03):
How spectacularly bad that whole situation was.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Hey, but go back into be He's the most pro ready.

Speaker 8 (23:12):
Pro ready and you're these teams are gonna regret passing
on me.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
I'll tell you that I am gonna chip on the shoulders.

Speaker 12 (23:18):
I know.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I you can have a chip on the shoulder like
Drew Brees had his entire career. But Drew Brees was really,
really good, one of the all time leaders in passing yards.
I have a chip on my shoulder from my basketball career.
It didn't mean anything. It just you know, fifty forty

(23:39):
years later, I'm like, damn it, I'm still gonn to
prove myself.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yes, Todd, was Josh Rosen. Here's the one that had
the jacuzzi in his dorm when that's all I know
about Josh Rosen.

Speaker 8 (23:47):
Oh, he's the one that had the Dracouzie inside.

Speaker 11 (23:48):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Yeah, thank you, Tod. No athletic ability knowledge of that, Yeah, yes, Paul, I've.

Speaker 11 (23:53):
Got articles here about Josh Rosen after his freshman year
said if you were available now, top three to four
in the whole draft. He really didn't even get a shot.
His rookie years stats with Arizona are almost equal to
the rookie year stats of Josh Allen in Buffalo. But
he never got another chance. Really, he never He started
three more games. He was out of the league by
twenty five.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
How about the most bet team to win the Super
Bowl since the draft ended? According to a friend in Vegas,
which team is the most bet team to win the
Super Bowl since the draft ended? Todd, I'm gonna start
with you.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
I'm gonna say the Buffalo Bills, all right, Seaton O'Connor.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Once again, this is the most bet team, so you
might be looking at the odds that will get.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
You a better return. So I'm gonna let you factor
that in as well.

Speaker 8 (24:45):
Seatan, Let's say the Eagles of Philadelphia.

Speaker 12 (24:49):
Okay, Orevin, the Cincinnati Bengals, okay, all right, Paul, the
Washington Commanders, No, the Kansas City Chiefs no. Baltimore Racing No, No,
this is all wise.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
The Chicago Bears.

Speaker 12 (25:08):
Whoa, I'm sorry you said the Super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Yeah? Could the Bears win the Rose Bowl? The pole question?
All right? A couple of.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Phone calls in here, Ryan in Coasta, Mesa leads off, Hey, Hey, Ryan.

Speaker 6 (25:29):
Hey Dan, thanks for taking my call. So I got
a couple of takes for you. I'll start with my
humorous one. I saw that Bill Belichick's girlfriend shut down
a question this weekend. I love it when kids stand
up for their grandpa. And then I got a second
take for you on Shador Sanders. I was thinking about

(25:49):
comparing it to the NBA and Bronnie James in particular,
just two players with hyped up dads really wanting them
to go to certain places. Bronni goes in the first round,
Shadar goes in the fifth round. Is it possible? In
the NFL is more of a meritocracy than the NBA.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Ronnie went in the second round. It's this is cutthroat
in the NFL. You gotta win. Kevin Stefanski has to
win in Cleveland, former Coach of the Year, who knows,
like Brian Dable with the Giants, you've got to win.
And we've seen these coaches who we think extend their

(26:30):
warranty with the team because hey, we drafted a quarterback.
It didn't work out with the Bears, with Caleb Williams.
Coaches get fired. It's cutthroat. If Shadoor Sanders can help
you win games, then you'll put up with whatever else
comes along with that. You will, you will, And in Cleveland,

(26:54):
that's why I thought Cleveland should have taken Travis Hunter
and Shadoor Sanders. Let's go. I would have been fine
with that. I think Shador can play. I think he
can start in the NFL. I do, but I think
he's one of those guys who needs a really solid
team around him. He's not going to carry a team.

(27:15):
But I do think that he is a solid quarterback.
Now you know, that's like saying it, you know, a
girl has a good personality. But you know, that's kind
of the way I view him. I didn't think he
was spectacular, but I thought he was tough, and I
hope that he has that instead of a sense of
entitlement of Hey, I'm going to go out there and

(27:36):
prove myself, and like, now you have to. Your dad's
not the coach. You'll have to prove yourself. It's the
ultimate meritocracy, the ultimate democracy. Go in there and prove yourself.
Lucas in Texas, Hi, Lucas, what's on your mind? Hey day,
good morning, good morning.

Speaker 13 (27:53):
You know, I watching all of this happen over the
weekend with Shador, it really made me think that I
want to give credit where credit is due, and I
feel like a lot of NFL reporters, anyone worked their way,
you know, has been doing this for a while, has
kind of been waving the flag saying that this was,
you know, a real possibility. It felt like they were saying, hey,

(28:16):
no one is really in love with this guy, and
it felt like there was this big disconnect between those
reporters who are on the ground getting the facts and
then the people that were building these mock drafts because
obviously you need clicks, you need engagement, you need to
be in the conversation.

Speaker 6 (28:30):
And I'll be.

Speaker 13 (28:30):
Honest, I feel like, you know, I think shows kind
of like yourselves, and you know, the mainstream shows probably
tended more towards the mock draft crowd of like, how
do we keep this engaging and relevant, especially in a
not really great draft overall? From star Power, I just
want to give credit. I feel like these reporters were
having good, honest and clear writing and reporting for a while,

(28:55):
and I think if anyone, they should be kind of
taking a vickery lap today of kind of we told you.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
So, but nobody saw this happening. And thanks for the
phone call, lucause nobody had him dropping this far. And
now you're getting articles of people saying this is why
he dropped. Well, I'd like to have had that before
the draft started or before we went into Friday's second round.
I mean, this isn't Aaron Rodgers dropping from maybe one

(29:21):
down to whatever twenty some picks. I mean that was
a precipitous drop there. This had a lot to do
with off the field stuff, and if you have NFL reporters.
Were they worried that they'd be blowback if they said
that should or Sanders is a third round draft pick
or a fourth round draft pick, because now you're getting

(29:43):
the hey I heard or this is what I thought.
I was told that. Okay, but that's what this is.
That's your job. So I don't know if it's victory
lap time. I mean, I think we were all kind
of duped here. I didn't get in until Thursday morning
during the show from my source who said, I don't

(30:06):
have a first round grade on it. I mean, that's
about as inflammatory as we had heard. He could go three,
he could go to the Steelers, and then he didn't,
And then all of a sudden, teams probably realized that
this happened with that team, a team that could have
taken him third overall, which is amazing. And if you

(30:31):
go in there unprepared, you're taking a phone call, a
zoom call FaceTime while you're in there with the team.
All right, those are concerns. Go back to Kyler Murray.
When Kyler Murray was on the show at the Super Bowl,
and he of course clammed up, didn't want to talk,

(30:53):
didn't present himself as a professional there were teams who
took him off their draft board because of that. The
interview with Kyler Murray was passed around the NFL from
what I'm told, and there were two teams, maybe a
third team took him off their board. Now, they probably

(31:14):
weren't going to be in a position to draft him,
but they weren't going to. They didn't want to turn
over their franchise to him. They thought he was young,
they thought he was well, thought he was young, they
thought he was immature.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
So this happens.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
But I think because it's dion En shaudor you know,
it became a huge story. People cared about this. They
wouldn't normally care. I mean, quinn Ewers falls to the
seventh round, Will Howard wins the National titawent Ohio State.
Nobody cared that they dropped. Let's see Kevin in Texas.

(31:54):
I Kevin, what's on your mind?

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Maybe you got the best and worse for you. Okay,
Beth was three days of watching mel Kiper almost have
an absolute heart attack on stage. Even Reef Davis, who's
the calmest guy in media, had to check him.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
On day three.

Speaker 5 (32:11):
But the worst is a little more interesting point and
a good you know, not a deep dive or conspiracy.
But I really think people aren't talking about enough what
Dion said on your show when he said I would
never coach in the NFL unless my quarterback was the son.
So there's probably twenty coaches that are on a one
year you know, we got to win this year. Who

(32:32):
wants that cloud hanging over their head. I'm saying, well,
we could bring in Dion if if all fails. I
just want to get your thoughts on that.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
I can't rule it out. I can't, But do I
think that Dion? Yeah, remember Dion when he was on
the show to Super Bowl and he said he's already
contacted teams about drafting or not drafting his son. And
I think he's quoted as saying that he would want
his son to pull and Eli Manning if he was

(33:02):
drafted by the Browns. He came out and said, you
know they got Joe Flacco. He's Dion's it. He has
it said flattering things about the Cleveland Browns, and I
get it. But and yes, we did call for Dion
Sanders Fritzi. Fritzy reached out see if we could have
him on. But uh, I did love the reaction to

(33:26):
Shador Sanders being drafted by the Browns, like there was
true joy there and not it didn't look like he was,
you know, kind of had his head down in whining
moment or whatever. It was a true sense of joy,
and I'm sure relief with that. I don't know him,
we didn't have him on the show. I can only

(33:47):
speak to what I've been told or what I've read,
And once again, when I read something I respect. There
are so many great writers out there. But if I
can follow up with something that adds to that or
maybe takes away from some, I mean, that's my job,
and that's what I did. I was not taking everybody's
word about Shador Sanders, but I was not taking everybody's

(34:08):
word about a couple of players there. Because if you
have this these sources, then why not ask And what's
the worst thing they could say? I said this for
two weeks leading up to the draft. I'm still trying
to find out what the Cleveland Browns are doing.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Well.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
I started to get information Thursday morning during my show.
They clammed up, and then I was told yesterday by
my source they had been working on this deal with
Jacksonville for weeks and I said, Okay, it would have
been nice if you could have told me that prior
to the draft. But by all accounts, everybody loves what

(34:51):
Jacksonville did, or I should say what Cleveland did that
they love what they did with that deal, thought of
his unbelievable haul for them. All Right, let's see how
good Mason Graham is. You got some draft picks there,
and okay, Travis Hunter is special though.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, Paulie, that's the one hang up from the draft.

Speaker 11 (35:12):
I can't tell whether I completely love or completely hate
what Cleveland did. Did they pass on Otani a football
and draft a couple quarterbacks to make it even messier
with their quarterback situation or the other way They built
for the future, got a lot of draft picks by
someone over paying, and they have two young quarterbacks who
could take over when they get rid of the mess.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
But I want to know if you're good at drafting.
I can't tell. It's like I have.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I have all these draft picks. Well, if you said
it's Kansas City or Seattle or Baltimore, I'd go, oh boy, good,
that's good for you. It's the Browns. So I'm never
quite sure when in doubt, doubt the Browns. Let's take
a break. Play the day up next.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
This is the play of the day.

Speaker 13 (36:19):
Check this out.

Speaker 15 (36:19):
Baseline drive with seven to shoot, Town's up top pump
fix side step right wing three, got it for the
laied Karl Anthony Towns, Paul, what a shot. It's ninety
four ninety three New York with forty six seconds to
go and JP Picker's death Paul timeouts.

Speaker 9 (36:36):
The South proclaimed and I think the numbers might.

Speaker 8 (36:38):
Back it up greatest the big Man Shooter ever.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Courtesy of the Knicks Radio Network, the Knicks starters accounted
for eighty nine point seven percent of the team scoring.
That's the largest share in any postseason game since the
seven Denver Nuggets ninety percent of their team all. That's
your play of the day. It's brought to you by Maco.

Belichick interview on CBS this morning when his girlfriend interjected
during the interview she didn't want Bill to talk about

(37:27):
how the two met, So we'll talk about that situation
as well. Stat of the Day is always brought to

Best and Worst of the weekend, More of your phone
calls eight seven to seven three DP show Paul and Iowa.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Hi Paul, what do you have for me?

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (37:47):
Dan?

Speaker 16 (37:47):
I got a best and worst of the weekend, but
your play of the day first. That made me think,
does Karl Anthony Towns deserve the nicknames of Big Bodega already?
I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
Well.

Speaker 16 (37:57):
My best of the weekend too. With state receivers Jaden
Higgins and Jalen Knowle both being drafted by the Texans,
the Houston Texans now have three Iowa state receivers on
their roster. Clone to the Bone and my worst of
the weekend. Last night, as soon as Damian Lillard limped
off the court, NBA Central posted on Twitter the Bovada

(38:18):
odds for where is Doc Rivers coaching next year. What
do you guys think Fritzy U.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Well, let's ask Doc where he thinks he's coaching next year.

Speaker 7 (38:27):
You got to give me one more year, man, We
had injuries, we got all kinds of issues.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
We got to give me one more year.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
All right, thank you, Doc. Yeah, you just start to
wonder about the bigger picture with Yiannis. And look, we
were the consensus was you're getting Dame. Now, you get
that pick and roll. Now, you guys are going to
be unstoppable. And it just hasn't gone as scripted and
it looks bad for Dame. Buddha in San Francisco. Good morning, Buddha, what.

Speaker 5 (38:56):
A DP Happy Monday, boys, let's go see.

Speaker 14 (39:01):
Uh well, Dan, I'm trying to stay positive, but as
a diehard Lakers fan, this has been hard to watch.

Speaker 9 (39:08):
Man.

Speaker 14 (39:08):
I mean gosh, I miss Kobe and somebody's gotta tell
the Lakers players Dan not to be surprised by Anthony
edgewards physicality. He's a beast and uh you know, Dan,
like watching yesterday Anthony Edwards and Lebron's back and forth,
it made me think of like MJ and Magic during
the Dream Teams transition, Like there's a new sheriff in town,

(39:32):
and Anthony Edwards is not afraid. He's built like an
NFL linebacker.

Speaker 6 (39:36):
Man.

Speaker 14 (39:36):
I mean, it's crazy. But best of the weekend, the
NFL Draft and the Mothership's coverage coming to an end.
It's so nice not to have to listen to all
the places the sheener is gonna go and who's taking
him and win? And I sure hope that mel Kiper's okay.
And the worst of the weekend all the people who

(39:56):
think Travis Hunter can play both ways all games. I mean,
he's one hundred and seventy five pounds, soaking wet, and
the first time he gets run over by a Derrick Henry,
He's going to be like, I think I may need
to make some business decisions.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Thank you, Buddha, thank you.

Speaker 13 (40:16):
You know.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
Mel Kiper's not a hot take guy, and he truly
believes believed that Shadoor Sanders was a first round draft pick.
And look, I love the passion that he has. Do
I think they gave melt too much airtime? I do,
because I think that the whole Shadoor Sanders, Where's he going?

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Why isn't he going?

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Kind of hijack the draft, but it was a major
reason why people tuned in on Saturday, stay tuned in
on Friday. It dominated the sports news cycle. Why isn't
he going? What's this about? What do they have against him?
What did he do? What did he not do? And

(41:00):
we still don't have all those answers, but we will.
We'll get those and there'll be more stories that come out.
But no one had him going in the fifth round.
I think if anybody had maybe in the second round.
I mean Peter Schreger, who have as much respect for
him as anybody, if not more so.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Who does this?

Speaker 3 (41:20):
He said on Thursday morning, I don't know where he's
going because there were only a couple of teams that
were going to use their first round draft pick on
a quarterback, and one of those was the Saints perhaps,
and one of those was Pittsburgh. Perhaps that was it.
And then all of a sudden, you get into the
second round. When is he a bargain? That's what I

(41:46):
was told. Teams were going, he's too good to pass up.
But they passed him up numerous times. Hour two on
