Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, we made it to a Thursday.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
It's our one again. Welcome to Montana, I mean, no
Las Vegas. It feels like Montana, not Joe. He'll join
us later on a little breezy here. Today it's football
weather and we've got a great guest list today, Joe
Montana joins us. Dion Sanders will stop by a little
(00:28):
bit later on. Also first hour in the Eagles, All
Pro offensive lineman Lane Johnson stops by. Dan Orlovsky of
the Mothership, and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel stop by
case you're wondering. Yes, the Tragger Girls are fired up.
And thanks to good Ranchers, we have great food today
and we have Kansas City food on the grill, and
(00:49):
we have San Francisco food on the grill. So we
have smoke, brisket, burnt ends. Is it chicken Spadini?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Oh Spadini, Yeah, that's oh.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
So that's a Garazzo's restaurant, I believe in Kansas City.
Inspired by that, we have Kansas City cut strip, steak, cheesycorn,
Stroud's famous cinnamon rolls. Then San Francisco brings us clam chowder,
tried tip roast, Mission style burritos, Chinese barbecue pork. No, no, no,
I'm not done yet. I'm not done yet. And then
(01:23):
we have Jirodelli's triple chocolate caramel brownie.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Who has it better than we do?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Thank you, thank you?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah yeah eight seven seven three DP show email address
Dpatdanpatrick dot com Twitter handle a DP show three pm
today the NBA trade deadline. And I don't know if
there's any big names that are going to be moved.
And it's tougher to trade somebody now. It feels like
everything is a salary dump, expiring contract. You got to
have things that match up here, and I don't know
(01:56):
if you're going to get any big movement, but we'll
keep an eye on it. I got some of my
best people working on that today.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yes, Paul, Yeah, we're going to keep it. We have
the tracker in front of us dance, so anyone goes, we'll.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Watch them, all right.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
The other news, Nick Saban's going to college game Day,
which I don't think surprises anybody, and he had already
been there. He worked with them a little bit the
last couple of years, and I know that having not Orlowsky,
but Pat McAfee on there. I guess Coach Corso is
gonna still make cameos there, Rhys Davis and Kirk kerk Street.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yes, yes, sir.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
It's going to be an interesting dynamic between Pat McAfee
and Nick Saban because Pat coach Saban feels like a
fellow who doesn't put up with nonsense, and Pat McAfee
is essentially all nonsense.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
At the time.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
There's a lot of eyrols like all right, young man, okay.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
It'd be great if he scolded Pat McAfee, made him
run the steps or something, you know, like go Pat,
get out of here. Son. You're supposed to be a
professional here. You realize that, right, he's gonna have to
lighten up a little bit. Coach is going to have
to lighten up a little bit there, Yes, Paulie, I would.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Want to be the producer who tells Nick Saban coach
twenty seconds, then.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Please wrap it up.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
I'll wrap it up when I'm ready to wrap.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
It's a little more energy, if you don't mind, that'd
be great things.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I'll give you energy, all right, that is energy right there?
Whoa what I'll break? Why don't you slow down with
that energy, coach. You know it's got energy.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
These nuts.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I already talked about the DSE nuts situation on the
Dan Patrick Show, no comment rees.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
You know what, that is a nick saving thing. If
I'm mistakeing that is. But that's where we heard about it.
And then we I think, had Josh Jacobs on it.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
And then I said, uh, the coach ever say these
nuts in practice? And he goes, yeah, how did you
know that? Like I heard about this makes these nuts? Yes, yeah,
And of course I got a lot of play in
the scc land. It led some of the local papers,
not joking. Then we had two on a year later
who confirmed the D's nuts romers. And then we had
(03:56):
Nick Saban on a couple of months later.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I had to ask him.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
We had a pre show meeting and imagine and a
bunch of guys I got sitting around on a national
radio televison show going so, how were we gonna get
into the decent situation?
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Coachable? And you did?
Speaker 6 (04:07):
You led with it?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yes, I did. Fun my coach, let's get this out
of the way. And then he was like, yeah, I've
said that before, I've said these nuts. Sometimes I go Okay.
Being a great journalist that I am, I had to
ask the tough questions.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
You're a sweating yes, all right, whole question today, Seaton,
you have the honors.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
Yes, if you were Paulie and I were talking about
this one before the show. If you were an NFL player,
would you rather have grass fields or legal grass?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
All right? If you know what I mean? Yeah, I
know what you mean. Yes.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
So, according to a report by the NFLPA, of the
players want grass field natural grass, and do not want
some level of field turf.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Okay, I'd love to interview one of the eight percent
and they don't want natural grounds that they maybe kickers.
I like the turf maybe, yeah, you know, I like
falling on cements, you know, I like doing that.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Yes, Pum, wouldn't you want a field field? Turf seems
more consistent? I know maybe it helped worse worse for injuries.
But grass fields they could be sloppy mess, they could
have divots and all that thing. I don't know if
i'd want to, I think i'd want to field turf.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
What feels like they feels like they By the.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Way, why are we wearing the same jacket?
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Because I like to emulate you and copy you, and
I knew you're gonna wear that jackets.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
I'm like, I'm backing that same way.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Okay, that movie Single White Female where the girl emulates
the other girls. Yeah, McLevin used to go buy the
shoes that I would have on. Like three days later,
you go, where'd you get those? And I go Zappos
and then you go all right, And then three days
later mcleven would have the same shoes on. I go, no,
(05:48):
it's creepy. And then I walk in today and you
have the same jacket off.
Speaker 7 (05:52):
I obviously can't of copy your hair, so best I
can do to copy.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yes, Yes, So just to put the pulse back question
for In fact, if they test for weed once a year,
they barely and they give the player a good heads up,
and when they're gonna test for weed, they barely test
for weed anymore.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
In the NFL, Yeah, I don't think they care. Maybe hgh,
they still care about or steroids. Maybe I don't even
know how often they test for that anymore. But you know,
I go back to that conversation I had with a
former NFL quarterback, and you know, we were just talking
about certain things in the NFL. And then I said,
(06:28):
is it steroids or HGH? And you know, I kind
of threw it out to him. He goes, I bet
seventy five percent of my teammates use HGH. And he goes,
it's not a big deal anymore. I'm like, okay, okay,
I guess at least in that sport, it's not a
not a big deal anymore. All Right, what other poll question?
Although I do like that when that means snarky, I
(06:48):
like them.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Yeah, it's a little different from some of the topics. Okay,
we could go with looking at the guest. Let's best
quarterback on the Show Today? Chase Daniel, uh, Joe Montana?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
All right, wait wait, give me the give me the
full list there so I can process this and give
me an educated answer.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
Well, I started to go, I was just like I was,
you know, like you just bounce somewhere around your heads.
I'm like, all right, so whose career would you watch?
Chase Daniel, dan Orlosky? They both had good ones. And
then you scroll down a little further You're like, oh,
Joe Montana.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You gotta put him in there.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Okay, second best quarterback on the Show today, Second best
quarterback on the show today. But we'll put Joe Montana
in with the three. You never know, you know, there could.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
Be some diehard Saints fans that are like, nah, that's
our guy.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Okay, Chase Chase Daniel, he was a backup quarterback when
they won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
By the way, he does an unbelievable job on his
YouTube channel. He's really good at breaking down these quarterbacks.
You know, we here we are, and we said this
was going to happen, and then it did, unfortunately, And
that is we didn't have any storylines with this Super Bowl.
I think we're all in agreement that this is a
great matchup, like just football wise, storylineans, what are we
talking about?
Speaker 2 (08:01):
How much coverage is Taylor Swift going to get? And
is Brock Party a game manager? That's it.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
And then you had somebody who asked, Patrick Mahomes, can
you do your best Kermit the Frog impersonation?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's not very nice. It's not that's a.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
Rude kind of question, asked me right before.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
That's not very nice. Love, Okay, if we had Patrick
Mahomes on the show.
Speaker 6 (08:22):
Absolutely you would do that.
Speaker 7 (08:24):
I did, Shannon Sharp. It can't be much worse.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
I know, but you guys keep saying that's one of
the worst things we ever did, is if you're doing
your shn and Sharp in person. But you were up,
but you have to do that. You were great with
your Shannon Sharp impersonation.
Speaker 7 (08:38):
I don't think he appreciated that. I don't think you've
had him on one since years ago.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
We have not had him on since then somehow unavailable.
But then you did your Pat. You would do your
Patrick mahomes in person. So if I go, hey, Patrick
before we get started, you know, Fritzy does a great
impersonation of you.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
It's good to have you here.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Pat.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Thanks for taking the time. I know you want to
plug Deiorator, Snickers or whatever you're doing.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
Good luck.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Okay, can we play Patrick mahomes from being Is this yesterday?
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Marvin? Do we have any Patrick.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Mahomes the only way to get him on the show? Yeah,
here's Patrick mahomes Hi.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Patrick.
Speaker 8 (09:14):
Chris Jones talked about the fact that you guys are
now becoming like the villains of the NFL. There's a
growing narrative out there. I know everyone prefers to be liked,
but is it a role that you kind of enjoying
the way.
Speaker 9 (09:29):
Not necessarily. I think I just like winning. If you
win a lot, and that causes you to be a villain,
and I'm okay with it. But at the end of
the day, I'm gonna enjoy playing the game and try
to win as much as possible.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
Okay, everybody were at the black Head once in a while.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Thank you too. Yeah, So that's it. That's where we are.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Brock perty game manager Taylor Swift, and then can Patrick
Mahomes be the villain?
Speaker 6 (09:52):
All right?
Speaker 5 (09:52):
Poul question, is the media being unfair to Brock party?
Excuse me, brock parody.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
That's what Cam Newton Kesh said, parody, and then I
think people thought he was saying Brock parody, and then
he was making fun of Brock parody when we're talking
about that he would be the tenth best player on
the forty nine.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Well, there are a lot of people who are like, oh, really,
there's no beat with you two guys. Why can't you
even say his name?
Speaker 10 (10:15):
Right?
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I don't think he's doing it like as a slight, but.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
It sounded like that when he said I got nothing
against Rock parody.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
I thought it was like, you know how the Southern accent.
Sometimes if you're saying the word pretty, but it comes
out party.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
You know, well that's I think Cam is saying Brock
Purdy Yeah, but it's coming out like rock pretty paday preddy.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
I think it's just like a Southern dialect.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Okay, So what's the question attached to that?
Speaker 5 (10:44):
Is the media being unfair to with Brock Parody, which
I don't think that they are that. Like one of
the big storylines is is people arguing about the media
coverage of Rock Party, and it's totally fairly. Every young
quarterback gets this when if they make a Super Bowl, Like,
I don't know, is this guy game?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
And I don't know that?
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Are we we can't talk about that. He deserves us? No,
yes we do.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
It's like I'm another guy nobody knows yet.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
But I give Cam Newton credit when he came on,
he said, look, I'm just being honest to you and
I'm not hating on Brock Parody.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
I'm just being honest what I see. Yes, boy, I
went back and looked at this.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Cam Newton said, Brock Brock Party is the tenth ranked
player on the team talent wise.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Best player.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Okay, PFF has it almost exactly the same. Fred Warner
is ranked above him, Christian McCaffrey, Kittle, Trent Williams, Bosa.
I could give you three or four more players that
are ranked higher on the PFF rankings of that team.
So technically Cam is right.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Okay, I mean yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Once again, when you're desperate for storylines, you make something
bigger than what it is. And they've done a great
job in running with this to make this, you know,
rock parody. And if he wins the Super Bowl, and
can he be the MVP? Remember when he as an
MVP candidate, or at least he was being lumped in there,
and then that's when you had some of the former
players like, you know, you can't put him in there.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
He's a game manager?
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Well, and Brocky Cam he even said yesterday, I said,
is Tom Brady a game manager? And he said, yes,
he is. He's a game manager, and there's nothing wrong
with that. It should be viewed as a compliment. Cam
admits that he didn't always manage a game.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
He used his.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Athleticism sometimes when he didn't need to. So he is
saying he wasn't a game manager and it costume sometime.
What else do we have there. By the way, we
have gift bags here for all of our in studio guests.
They get Keeper's Heart, Good Ranchers, Miller Lite, the original
Luisiana Brand, Hansaus King, Sawaan and Treger Grills. Stat of
(12:46):
the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official
trading cards to the Dan Patrick Show. All right, see
what else?
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Well, we could do something off of the NBA trade deadline,
although that's not really getting any attention.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yeah, but there's not.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
I mean, well, the Lakers get any better today, I
don't know, kind of the only team that people are
looking at.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Right Yeah, well that's the only team that gets clicks
unless unless Golden State, you know, trades Klay Thompson.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
That would be big, Yeah, that would be huge.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
But man, we're starting to see it right before our
very eyes, when you know Clay's not playing the last
seven minutes of a game.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
And then you know you're just going, wow, this is
a little bit there, this is it, this is it.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
I'm still waiting for Clay to like, yeah, hey man,
big boy paints, go get your own team and prove
he could do.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
And that's it's a long gy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, long
guy or Draymond Green. If he would get traded, that
would be interesting as well. But I don't know if
they had that yard sale where all of a sudden
they go, you know what, let's keep Steph and let's
see if we could get something for some of these
older players.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yes time, I love the guy.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
But is it too soon to put Doc Rivers on
the trading blocks. I know he seems to be losing
games again.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
They won in four Yeah.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Taking the lead and they don't have the lead and
they lose.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
How do you how do you think the former coach
is that Adrian Griffin feels when is he keeping an
eye on you know, if the Bucks winner lose there
because he was the problem. They talked about their defense
or lack thereof. And uh, Doc has not done well
since he's.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Not closing it out. We're just not closing games out.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Okay, I got to play the four quarters.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
We're not playing four quarters.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Thank you Todd, Thank you Don By the way, you
killed it yesterday. You were awesome yesterday. Watch out today. No.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
I was talking to Marvin. I was looking at Marvin.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I said, you you were killing it yesterday, and tell
you had a good day yesterday, once again, you had
the injury to your leg, devastating career ending.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Per killing nicely, okay, killing nicely?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Good?
Speaker 3 (14:40):
All right, no shots, no walking, walking, clinic, everything's good,
looks all right. Yeah, you gotta play hurt. Gotta play hurt.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Something.
Speaker 7 (14:48):
I see how it was not the way to go.
Nice was fine. They were not hot.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yeah, yeah, with an open wound. Actually it was it
was a scratch or a cut.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
I would it was a gash, but no, it was not.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
It was a a brain I think you had an abrasion.
Speaker 7 (15:02):
I was close in itting stitches, but you can call
it what you want.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Yeah, it would helped us out a lot if Todd
got hurt last night and had something to report for
the show today.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, yeah, we need something here today.
Speaker 11 (15:11):
The most exciting thing I did is I went to
the food court, which I didn't know until like a
few days ago that there was one.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
I said, why you're getting Uber eats. They have like
a whole nice food court there.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I was shocked when I told them there was restaurants
at our.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I was like, really, they have restaurants here.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
So I got a I couldn't decide between the burger
and the chicken sewad. So what do you think I did?
Speaker 2 (15:27):
You got both?
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Of course, Wabba's onion rings are good too.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Many.
Speaker 3 (15:37):

Speaker 2 (15:52):
I see, all right, what pole question were we gonna
go with? We're gonna go are we going snarky?
Speaker 5 (15:58):
We're going grass or grass to start?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Okay, we're gonna transition into a rock party parody rock parody.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
You know, this person raised a good question too, though,
But we should go back and look at the Patrick
Mahomes headlines from his first Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Or Tom Brady's first Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Yeah, well he definitely got it Tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yes, because what did he throw for? One hundred and
forty yards?
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Well, if you're a high draft pick, people expect you
to get there quickly, but if you fall to the
later rounds, it's like, well, we don't really know about
this guy. You know, it's kind of natural, right, I guess.
I mean half of Tom Brady's story is look where
he was drafted. Look at where he was drafted. That's
part of what makes him so great. If he was
(16:42):
a first round draft picker, went in the top ten,
it would be like, yeah, that's what we thought.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
You know what you're finding out now is and this
is always revisionist history, and maybe it's true, but the
number of coaches or former coaches who will tell you that, yeah,
we had Dac Press got pretty high on our draft board,
or we had Russell Wilson pretty high on our draft board.
Now you're getting you know what, Matt ruling Carolina. You
know what we were thinking about taking him in Carolina.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I was vetoed.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I'm like, okay, alrighty, yes, Paulie.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
I've got the article from the Tom Brady's first Super
Bowl and the headline on on an ESPN dot com
Vin Terry's forty eight yard field goal caps Patriots upset.
Brady doesn't get mentioned till the fourth paragraph of the story.
Tom Brady shook off an angles injury to have a
solid game and have a late drive, but he's not
the focal point at all of the article.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Okay, yes, Marv.
Speaker 11 (17:36):
During that first Super Bowl they were talking about are
the Rams the next dynasty?
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Yeah, like, oh, you know if they went two and
three years?
Speaker 11 (17:42):
Oh and the Patriots looked like, oh they was just
a Cinderella story and they'll just be here for this
one year.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Well, I don't think anybody believed that Tom Brady was
gonna be Tom Brady. Hell no, if you watch that,
you'd be like, okay, like he did. Okay, you had
a couple of nice passes, but it was about their
defense in vinitarian Tom Brady. He talks about Bill Belichick.
We'll have that for you coming up as well. Coming
up next the phrase the get off. Lane Johnson of
(18:08):
the Eagles. We'll talk to him about the phrase that's
sweeping offensive linemen around the world, the get off. So
he'll talk about that coming up as well. We'll take
a break. Just getting started hour one here at the
beautiful Fountain Blue Hotel. They've been our host all week
long and they have lived up to their repute. We haven't,
but they have, so we really appreciate everything they've done

fifteen thousand people in here today. That's that's what it sounds.
I haven't even turned around to look at the crowd.
(19:46):
It feels like around fifteen sixteen thousand people here. It's
not that it's cold, it's just cold for Las Vegas, right,
that's what it feels like. And I told the dan nts,
do not complain. Nobody wants to hear you complaining about
how hold it is. You're at the super Bowl. You're
staying at a great hotel.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
They shut up.

Pro Bowl offensive tackle and part of the Super Bowl
winning team, fourth overall pick by the Eagles back in
twenty thirteen, and he's a finalist for the Walter Payton
NFL Man of the Year. Let's say hello to Laye
Johnson of the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Here, lawyer.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
The more you know, sometimes you see somebody and you go,
I wonder what that guy does for a living. I
don't wonder about that when I look at you. Second
guess now, were you ever a bouncer?
Speaker 6 (20:57):
Never was? Thank god?
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Okay, but could you take all of us?
Speaker 11 (21:03):
Ah depends on what day. Maybe on the down if
we all stood up.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Yeah, I mean we could try.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Yeah, you're leaving that inside of when you gotta get lower.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Okay, once again, it's called the get off. Yeah right,
Explain to the audience what the get off is. We're
fascinated by this more than anything. Okay, So the get off.
Speaker 11 (21:29):
You have the quarterback who's about eight yards and the
defensive end and the tackle or getting off the ball
to see who can uh you know, I'm trying to
prevent him from sacking the quarterback. So to the audience,
it's like one hundred meters dash. The sprinter has to
master the first you know, ten twenty yards. So for me,
getting that timing down allows me to get in a
good position to block the end. So a lot of
(21:49):
times the DN likes when the tackle turns the shoulders
to the sideline. That may seem more susceptible to getting
beat in.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Okay, So do you look at the ball or you're
listening for what Jalen Hurts say.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
So far at home and we have a cadence.
Speaker 11 (22:03):
Listen to the cadence, and if we're on the road,
we usually have a signal by the center or by
the guard that allows me the time.
Speaker 6 (22:10):
So usually it's a tap of the center. I know
a certain.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Time, how many illegal motion penalties. Have you had starts
I've had? So it's crazy.
Speaker 11 (22:19):
I feel like I had a lot more earlier in
my career, and then like now, the attentions on me,
I've had like.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
A lot less. Like going to the season.
Speaker 11 (22:27):
I just remember seeing articles just to me false start
and fall start, and I said, it's gonna be an
interesting year.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
But didn't have I don't know if I had one.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Maybe one, But I'm watching and it certainly seems like
you're getting off before anybody else does.
Speaker 11 (22:41):
Yeah, I think it is cheating. Yeah, so no, there's
there's certainly there's certainly times where I'm early and I
and I should get called. But when you look at
how it's broke down so soon as Kelsey like flicks
his wrists, that's technically what I'm going on. So a
lot of times in these steel shots, it shows me
with my leg up and Kelsey's already cock to snap
the ball. It's just not showing it in the picture frame. Okay, Yeah,
(23:03):
I've been called early, and uh, you know I've got
my fair share penalty. Okay, but have you changed offensive tackles?
Speaker 3 (23:09):
No?
Speaker 11 (23:09):
So what's funny is when I came in I was
always late. So my college film, my coach always said're
laid off the ball. You're laid off the ball? What's
going on? And then I played next to Jason Peters
and so I felt like he was just passing it
down to me and he got it from Walter Jones.
You know, Trent Williams is great at it. So a
lot of the tackles that are that are really good
in this league. That's that's part of the game.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
How did you guys react when Jason Kelsey was named
one of the Sexiest Men of the Year.
Speaker 11 (23:34):
I think we knew it a lot earlier on when
we did the ESPN shoot uh the body issues. So
uh now I think just the audience is starting to
see what we what have we.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
Known all along?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
So you thought he was sexy as what you're saying, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Yeah, he had he had his moment.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
That's awkward, but okay, you see coming back. Are you
planning on him coming back?
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Oh, that's a good question.
Speaker 11 (23:58):
I would like for him to come back, you know,
as a player, but you know, I feel like he
would be a great coach as well. But you know,
also he has a lot of stuff going for him
off the field. So you know, he has he has
his options, but yeah, I would love to see him back.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
Okay, does your family ask you to ask him questions
about Taylor Swift?
Speaker 6 (24:17):
Sometimes? But do you I just avoid it.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah, I just have you ask a question about Taylor Swift.
Speaker 11 (24:24):
No, not really, because I mean I've sat buy him
for the last ten years, like in in uh in meetings,
So it's like already.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
No, no, no concert tickets. You don't ask for a
hook cup not.
Speaker 11 (24:33):
Yeah, it's just you know, it's the wrong time of
the year. You know, we're still playing. You know, we
just now had some some recent time off. So maybe
this summer or spring we're looking for some t Swift tickets.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
How tough is it to watch the Super Bowl?
Speaker 11 (24:45):
It's tough, But you know when you look at you know,
how we handled the second half of the season. You know,
obviously what we wasn't what we expected. But you know,
I feel like looking back, you know, you got to
shaish the moment. You know, it is a big moment
getting to the playoffs, and so next time around, you know,
hopefully it's a lot different.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Okay, explain to me what happened the last whatever six
eight weeks of the season.
Speaker 11 (25:08):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like as film piles up,
and I feel like, really after the forty nine Ers game,
where you know, it's kind of them dismantling us, I
felt like teams kind of piggyback off that. So I
don't know if it was something we were doing with
our scheme wise, maybe the teams were on and what
we were running, but it was a lot more difficult
than what it needed to be because you've seen what
(25:28):
the offense has been and then you see that stretch
and it's you know, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Yeah, because you go to the super Bowl last year, Yah,
could have easily won the super Bowl and then all
of a sudden, the expectation, I mean, here are the Chiefs,
They're back, and then you guys aren't even a playoff team.
Speaker 11 (25:44):
Yeah. Yeah, that's a great thing about the NFL. I mean,
teams you know, you think should be beatable, aren't. I mean,
and it's just like you look at the second half
of our season. You know, games we should have won,
close games, we end up losing last six to seven.
So it is what it is. But you know, when
we reflect, a lot of changes are going on in Philly,
(26:04):
right now. So you know, I'm excited about that and
I feel, you know, with a nucleus that we do have,
I feel like we have a good good chance to
getting back to where we need to be.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Where are all the great offensive linement coming from.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
It feels like there's a drought in college because of
how you play in college.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
It's not how you play in the pros.
Speaker 11 (26:23):
Man, you know, that's tough. You know, I like to
say Texas is usually pretty good.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Oh, that's tough for you to say that coming from olahol.
Speaker 11 (26:31):
I think I think of trend. I think I think
of Jason Peters. But you know, you look at the
South the Midwest, like, I assum, what a good answer.
But you know, when you're looking at tackles, I mean,
I feel like the speed of the game has changed
so much, so you're seeing the best athlete on manage
the Miles Garretts of the world.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
What's that like?
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Oh?
Speaker 11 (26:49):
Man, it's like you're in the enclosure with a jaguar
and a big jaguar jaguar and yeah, the quarterbacks the
meet Paul and you gotta.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
Just keep him away.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Have you ever apologized to Jason after he got sacked?
Speaker 6 (27:04):
Uh? No, not really. I mean it's.
Speaker 11 (27:08):
You know, usually does happen very much, but yeah, usually
I think it A good one. Happened early in training camp.
I was like, it's not gonna happen. Uh, you know,
it's not gonna happen too much more.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
So, Oh, okay, because I always wonder when your guy
sacked the quarterback and then you go over to help
him up, and then he's looking up at you and
he's You're the reason why I'm down here because you
let your men be Thanks.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
Buddy, Yes, it's reason the replacements. What are you doing?
Come on? Help me out.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
But also you have to decide do I get called
for holding or do I allow a sack?
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Yeah? I think the holding definitely. Yeah, i'd say holding anything.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Can I call holding on every play?
Speaker 1 (27:45):
You could?
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Okay?
Speaker 11 (27:47):
Yeah, but once the defender gets out outside the framework
of the tackle and outside that and your arms get extended,
and that's usually when they call it.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Yeah. I was wondering about that when we were thinking
about if we came up with mittens.
Speaker 11 (28:01):
Well, they used to block like this back in the day.
Maybe maybe we should just go back to that. No,
but if I gave you mittens, then it's you know,
no no fingers but mittens like yes, and the defensive
player has to have oven mits as well.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
I think we should go to Nike and get a
glove designed.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Okay, here we go, all right.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Yeah, the wheel's turning.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
We're gonna make millions of dollars, aren't we?
Speaker 6 (28:22):
Yes, we are.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Who's the guy that you can?
Speaker 9 (28:24):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
You looking across the line and you go, uhh uh.
Speaker 11 (28:30):
You know anytime I had to block Vaughan, you know,
Micah is one of those guys. Max Crosby, Uh, you know,
really any of those guys. I don't know if you've
seen to Neil Hunter walk around the field, but you're going, hole, Hey,
what plan is this guy from? So I'm like, whoa,
I need some more baby my arms this time I
come out okay. So yeah, you see some guys like
that Khalil Mack in the same.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Way, You're going, whoa, where are they coming from?
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Do you put baby oil on your own?
Speaker 6 (28:54):
I used to, but now it's just uh no, not really.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Okay, But is that a Neil legal substance?
Speaker 3 (29:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (29:02):
I mean, but I feel like in the cold, I
don't know, is it shit?
Speaker 10 (29:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (29:08):
When it's warm, yeah, definitely. You know, you have the
sweat going with it. It's it's definitely hard to grab,
but guys like to do it. It's like wrestlers before
they come out. You know, they're trying to look trying
to look yoked up. You know, Yeah, they're trying to
flex up.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
One of thirty two nominees for the Walter Payton NFL
Man of the Year presented by Nationwide. So Nationwide's done
a wonderful job donating more than two point three million
to a community in philanthropic causes.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Your reaction when you found out you were nominated.
Speaker 6 (29:35):
Yeah, so I was. I was genuinely surprised.
Speaker 11 (29:37):
So you know, obviously they got the video in the room,
but you know, when I'm in the room, it's mostly
stout talking and he's very high detailed, and you know
you can't miss something because Hill pop quiz and then
he just starts going on into this and I'm like
taking back and then Kel skits up. And usually when
Kel speaks, you know, get he gets emotional. I mean
it's just you know, any any pregame speech. I mean,
(30:00):
he pours his heart into it, and so you know,
I knew how much it meant to the guys around me.
I knew how much it meant to Chris Long when
he was when he was here with the Eagles, and
you know, Nationwide has been sponsoring this for the past
ten years, and you know, I just think the nominees
and the people that have been a part of this
or are phenomenal and do a lot of good, you know,
commit to changing their communities and you know, really helping out.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
But you also did a wonderful thing where you talked
about mental health. Yeah, and you know, big tough guys
and football players and you guys you know don't talk
about these things.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
But where did the courage to come forward come from?
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Yeah? So I was dealing with a you know, a
terrible ankle injury.
Speaker 11 (30:39):
You know, it was contemplating retirement and so I was,
you know, trying to play through that, and you know,
had a lot of different emotions going through my head.
And so I took those three games, and whenever I
came back, instead of making up some story, you know,
I felt like to genuinely expressed what I was going through.
You know, do more help than harm. And so you know,
through that, I've I've committed to KOUTH, which helps high
(31:03):
school kids for mental health causes. Just really, I feel
like the dialogue in my generation has been a lot
greater than maybe when I came into the league. And
so I've seen a lot of guys get help, you know,
even guys after games I'm talking to or they messed
with me on on Instagram, and so, you know, there's
a lot of guys that are playing at a very
high level that are doing with lots of stuff. But
(31:25):
you know, I think just the communication and guys being
transparent has been incredible.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Yeah. I think people don't realize their players don't realize
there you know, people in general don't realize there's other people,
how many people are suffering from this, and they're looking
for somebody to be able to talk about it. Yeah,
so then they can talk about it. Then that leads
to other people. Max Crosby came on the show a
couple of years ago. He talked about, you know, alcoholism,
and we had a woman who was in the audience
(31:52):
a couple of days ago and she said, you know,
he changed my life, probably saved my life because she
stopped drinking listening to Max Crosby talk about that.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
So you have a platform use the platform.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
It's a powerful voice, and you know, it's it resonates
with somebody somewhere at some point in their life.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 11 (32:09):
And I think the main thing is to bring education
to everything so people know what the symptoms are and
know what the feelings are and really become educated on
what it is and how to handle it. But yeah,
when you get stories of athletes like mim was Tyson Ferior,
Michael Phelps, when you hear stories like that in the
caliber of athletes, who's you know, sometimes athletes think they
can achieve their way out of things.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Oh yeah, and that's and that's kind of the you know,
depressions undefeated. I mean, it'll get you and hold on.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
To you there.
Speaker 11 (32:38):
Yeah, it's something you constantly have to be in the present,
and you have to focus on being in the present,
you know.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
And we're in a distracted world and.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
So you have to train it. And you're trying to
cheat when you're playing because you're putting baby oil on
and jumping off the ball. A lot of stuff going on. Okay,
now the get off. I want you to judge my guys,
so they're gonna get up here. And if you're watching
on peacock. You'll be able to see it. So this
is PAULI who is you know he's fascinated by the
get off.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
The call, like the like Jalen hursts his call.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Oh so you're gonna do these set hut hunt? How's
my set up? How's my setup?
Speaker 6 (33:15):
Yeah? So you want to get you want to you
want to get lower? So you want to take your
elbows on your knees.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yeah, I don't think physically bend over more, you know?
Speaker 6 (33:22):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 11 (33:23):
Okay, then next thing, you're thinking of kicking your right
foot like you're kicking through the wall like that. Yeah,
shuffle a little bit, but think of a big kick
and then shuffle.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
A right ready down like a crab going across the
big just like the quick quick feet wants nothing to
do with you off. Okay, here we go down there
you go a little early? Yeah, yeah, flag on you, Uh, Fritzy,
(33:52):
do you want to give this a shout?
Speaker 6 (33:54):
Now?
Speaker 3 (33:54):
He suffered a devastating injury yesterday that he has it.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
He has this slight so whatever you can do. So
my kid, I think of that first.
Speaker 11 (34:01):
You know, I'm getting that right leg about back behind
me like I'm kicking through a wall.
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Damn, so it's not on shoo. I'm gonna say down.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
We say down and down.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
You don't want to mess with that, he said, that's
kind of old school. Okay, here we go.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
All right here, we got to show me I'm kicking
like this.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Okay, school guy.
Speaker 11 (34:32):
So Willie Anderson showed me this this foot back first,
he says, you're center of gravity's better than.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
How about Paul, Paulie, I need you to beat the
edge rug with Stay up your lane. Paulie's gonna rush
you and do whatever whatever you need to do. If
you need to smack him, then you smack him. Okay,
here we go, Paul. I'm not sure where he's going.
You got a lot of that side. That's like Miles Garrett, shiit.
(35:00):
I think you're holding lane.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
I think you are.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Holding so I've not pretty good. That's the pressure.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
I think.
Speaker 11 (35:06):
Yeah, that was christ Your hands are right here, so
I'm right here and I'm trying to replace.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
I didn't get there in time.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Oh you want another shot with him?
Speaker 6 (35:18):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Down, set up man, you almost got the quarterback. Paul, Yeah, yeah,
I know.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
I like it.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
He's pretty worried.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
I got to fill his hands.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Not many edge rushers weigh one hundred and seventy five pounds,
so you did a great job. Congrats again on being
nominated one of the thirty two nominees for the Boulder
Peyton NFL Man of the Year. He's Lane Johnson. Everybody,
thank you, Lane, appreciate your time. We'll take a break.

All the stories.

The Celtics ais tonight and Derek.
Speaker 3 (36:26):

Speaker 2 (37:03):
Yeah, Ken, we got two of them working right now.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
If you were an NFL player, would you rather have
grass fields or legal grass? Right now? Grass fields eighty
five percent of the audience. That's really interesting. We're also
putting up there right now, who is the second best
quarterback on the show today, Chase Daniel, dan Orlowski and.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Joe Montana. That guy. Oh that's right, I forgot about it.
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
Results are still pen.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Maybe somebody from Chase, Chase Daniel's family or Dani or
Lomsky's family might put Montana as the second best course.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I mean, it's it's possible, It is possible, yes, po.
Do you think the NFL is gonna look at this
and say, you know what, like our results here?
Speaker 7 (37:46):
Course?
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Okay, but the NFLPA.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Put this out there on purpose to say very super
week to try to push for grass fields for their players.
The NFL, it's gonna be really costly to do grass
fields throughout.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
The entire league.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Are they just going to ignore this and move on
to the off season?
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Probably?
Speaker 3 (38:03):
I mean it's you know, the owner and what he
wants with his field, and then it's multi purpose and
concerts there.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Can you roll something in? Can you roll something out? Uh?
You know, we have dome stadiums. What are you going
to do with that?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Feels like the NFL should pony up there. I mean
they're making billions, so why not just say we're going
to spend this money too.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Oh damn, Patrick, I know you jokester.
Speaker 10 (38:27):
Yeah, somebody tell the billionaires to spend their money. Yeah,
that's true, that's true. Player safety, Yeah yeah, player safety.
You know what about it's going to cost jobs then
because we don't have the money to do.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Uh well, if the commissioner comes on the show, then
I was like, if that's not gonna happen either, maybe
get like you know.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Home Depot or Lows or Scott's as a sponsor and
offset the cost of the entire field thing. The entire
grass field thing.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Make it into a How much does it cost?
Speaker 6 (38:57):
Well, I think the.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Airson A Cardinals have that slide in slide out system
with a grass field.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
That seems like it's very expensive back to.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
You, okay, but it we we helped by the stadium
finance the stadium, right, I don't know, can we can
we get something?
Speaker 1 (39:16):
You know?
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Can we have our players protected? Exactly right? We build
it and we paid a park there. Yeah, so we'll
talk to a couple of quarterbacks. Daniel Lobsky will joined
us coming up and Chase Daniel and final our Geon
Sanderson Joe Montana.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Yes, yeah, I wonder though if there's a real problem
with football and grass fields because so much of the
like play is concentrated in a certain area right down
the basically the middle of the field, that it must
be the the upkeep of it must be almost impossible,
or or not impossible, but extremely difficult, you know, I mean,
(39:56):
just if you just look at the way the game
is played.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Well, it's like Washington's field was embarrassing, you know, Oakland
played on a baseball field. You know what what could
go wrong there for your football players? Right? So I
think that they're they this is a long time coming
of having some kind of uniformity where the players say
this is what we need. But once again, a lot
of times when they do these collective bargaining agreements, these
(40:22):
are things that you could collectively bargain and say this
is what we want. Because you know that eighteenth game
is coming up here soon. They're the owners are going
to be pushing for that, you know, but the players
will they'll opt for money then they will, you know,
having a safer football field there.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Yeah, Paul, we have like a strike a player chatting
we want grass, we want grass, and nobody knows what
they're talking about.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Well, it'd be a grassroots kind of a thank you
to Are you kidding me? The audience is turning on
me here. It's like I I did something. Oh I
got a bloop I think out of somebody there. Yeah,
thank you Tom, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
By the way, Puffy Fritz, he put the Miller light
jersey on over his puffy jacket.
Speaker 11 (41:03):
And what are you doing?
Speaker 7 (41:04):
I thought it'd be ironic for someone that I'm heavy
and I'm wearing lights. It's just is kind of a
kind of a fun things the.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
Whole It's pretty good time.
Speaker 7 (41:11):
Thank you but you didn't have to.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Somebody has called you the Michelin man. See that's me accurate,
but me, you don't know him.
Speaker 7 (41:20):
It's more accurate than me.
Speaker 6 (41:21):
We can we can wake it.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Yeah, but you could have put the shirt on.
Speaker 7 (41:25):
I didn't have time. We were running over to the
you know what, I'm just gonna throw it over the jacket,
all right, heavy light. Now I got it back to
you in the studio.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
