(00:47):
all of that forthcoming, and our operator Tyler is sitting
by to take your phone calls. You got the Bengals
beating the Cowboys twenty seven to twenty. You're saying, there's
a chance the Cowboy there five and eight, Cincinnati is
five and eight. One team feels a whole lot better
at five and eight than the other team feels at
five and eight. And with the Cowboys, you're looking at
(01:11):
a team that was just never ready to compete. Even
if Dak Prescott's there, they still had a lot of holes.
And I think that was the big concern. You're all in,
but you weren't all in, and it showed. Troy Aikman
last night said he thinks Mike McCarthy's going to be
coming back. Michael Parson says, hey, I hope we can
all run this back. I hope Mike McCarthy is coming back.
(01:33):
And with Jerry Jones, he is loyal, He's been loyal
to a fault, so maybe he is going to bring
Mike McCarthy back, which seems pretty bizarre after what is
transpired here and he left him out there as a
lame duck coach. But Cincinnati wins this one, and if
you look at their schedule, their remaining schedule, they got
a shot here. I got a shot, and I don't
(01:56):
know if it's a legitimate shot to make the playoffs,
but you got to out and this is the AFC
where you got a chance. You're at the Titans. Then
you have the Browns at home, the Broncos at home,
and then you're at the Steelers. I don't know what
the Steelers will be playing for, but there is that
Cincinnati Pittsburgh rivalry. The Broncos are playoff team, You're gonna
(02:18):
host them. The Browns enigmatic, and you got the Titans
as well. But right now at five and eight, and
you watched last night, and maybe you watch the same
way I did, It's like, why aren't they better? Burrow
has been great this year. Jar Chase is unbelievable. The
defense has been terrible. That's the biggest difference here. And
(02:43):
now they did hold Dallas to twenty, but they needed
help in the final two minutes there with the block, punt,
the fumble and then you let Joe Burrow little out
patterned to Jamar Chase. Like, for the life of me,
I'm thinking, do you have coverage over the top, Like
you have to have one guy on Jamar Chase and
you have to have another guy right there for a
(03:04):
helping hand. And give credit to Jamar Chase. It's a
simple pass round just out doop, dip, zip, dope, touchdown
and then that's it. Ballgame eight seven seven three DP
show email address DP at Dan Patrick dot com, twitter
handle at DP show. Here's Mike McCarthy after the loss
last night. Would you say that this is maybe the
(03:26):
toughest pill to swallow as far as a non playoff loss.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Human experience as a definitely, because I mean, puts us
in the season. You know, you understand it. We dug
ourselves a whole. You know, it's the seven losses coming
in here, so we had we had to have us
one tonight, you know, And yeah, definitely, this is a very,
very disappointing loss.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
We talked about this in September where I said, you're
going to have a loss by a team that when
we get to December, we're going to look back and go,
oh my god. The Bengals open the season losing at
home to Hobie Brissette and the Patriots, And we said
at the time that's the kind of thing that can
keep you from home field advantage, from winning your division
(04:08):
to making the playoffs. And that might be the case
for the Bengals. Teams that lose in September, it still
you know, still counts as one loss, but it's costly
at the end of the year when you have these
losses early and you go, oh my god, they lost
to them.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Seton what's poll question today? For the first hour.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Well, we got a couple here, one here from Paul
quarterback least likely to win a Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Whoa least liked? Where did that come from?
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Okay, two years ago, I would have said that Joe
Burrow is going to win a Super Bowl. I would
have bet my career on it, bet anything on it.
The Bengals look good, he looked great. They almost beat
the Rams a couple of plays away. It feels like
they're going getting further from the Super Bowl. Joe Burrow
and the Bengals. And then I threw in some other quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Okay, we had Lamar Jackson. I don't know if that
feels closer. Well, they're closer than Joe Burrow and the
Bengals are.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Correct, But are they closer than two years ago?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
I just think they've had a rough patch. I think
that team can win on the road. I think that
if that game plan is carried out, then yeah, I
still think that they can go to a super Bowl.
Speaker 7 (05:20):
I do.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Go to a super Bowl, go to a Can they
win the Super Bowl? I'll say yes, because John Harbaugh
has won a super Bowl before, so I'll say yes,
but they don't have a good defense either. Who else
is on there? Uh? Well, brock Purdy he felt really
close last year? Well he was. You can't get any
(05:45):
closer than being in the super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
But I'm saying does it feel well, I'm saying, does
it feel much farther this year? And they always talking
about windows with the forty nine ers?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Oh, I think the window closed this year. I don't
know if it's closed for Rock Purty, but yeah, I
mean he's like Joe Burrow, he had a chance, had
a chance. Maybe that's the last chance he has. Yes, Seaton,
Justin Herbert. I I don't know if he's farther further
(06:19):
away from a Super Bowl. I just don't know if
he's closer maybe because of Jim Harball. Yeah, all right,
who else is on the list? Then we can go
back and say, right, who's the furthest away? All right,
last on the list then would be Jalen Hurts. So
you have Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Brock Purty, Justin Herbert,
(06:40):
Jalen Hurts. Joe Burrow is.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Least likely to win a Super Bowl. Yeah, that's crazy. Well,
I have to look at his team. Jalen Hurts is
on a really good team. Lamar Jackson is on a
team that can be dangerous. Justin Herbert is going to
make the playoffs with Jim Harball in his first year there.
Rock Purty with the injuries, they seem to be non
threatening right now. But I would say Joe Burrow, he's
(07:05):
not even going to make the playoffs. Yes, see Jalen
Hurts fairly or unfairly, I'm not saying this is the
way that I feel. But Jalen Hurts is the only
quarterback on that list who is still a question.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Mark for being a storm starting quarterback. Yes, and I've
done the questioning. There are times when I go, I
just don't know if he's a good quarterback or quarterback
in a really good situation. Maybe Brock Purdy maybe yes,
But I think Rock Purdy when he plays really really well,
(07:38):
is better than Jalen Hurts. When Jalen Hurts plays really
really well, really well, Jalen Hurts gives you the element
of running. I mean, Rock Purty does run, but Rock
Purty when everybody's playing, that's when he plays really really well.
Jalen Hurts, they can sump. Like I watched the game
against Carolina, he just kind of who does some things
(08:03):
And I just don't I don't know if he's a
you know, gonna be a really good passer. I think
now I go back to that Super Bowl and you
could have given him the MVP and a loss. I
wouldn't have had a problem with it. He was that good.
I just I don't know. There's something that I don't
see the consistency. I don't see him being that Oh
my gosh, Jalen Hurts. Is he doing what he's supposed
(08:26):
to do? I guess, you know, win then you're not
throwing the ball. I mean, that's a run first team.
So I don't know what that They got. Receivers they got,
they got a couple of really good receivers, you got
a really good tight end, and it feels like they're
a running game, running team. So that that's a little
(08:47):
bit surprising there.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
Yeah, Paul, it feels like the Eagles could win a
Super Bowl with Hurts playing B level football. They almost
did it already, you know, twenty two touchdowns and ten
picks type guy. You know, I don't I'm not a
parent get to Troy Apen, but the focus on the
quarterback is similar to the Troy Aikman days where he
doesn't have to do a ton. It's got so much talent.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
But I think we always felt that Troy Aikman could
step up in a big moment and then provide that play.
I don't know about Jalen Hurts when it comes to passing, playmaking.
It's different. Like I look at Lamar as a better passer,
I look at Lamar as a better quarterback, more dangerous.
But it just feels like Jalen Hurts sometimes has to
(09:31):
keep up with everybody else on the offense there, and
I don't know if it's you know, Nick Sirianni, I
don't know if it's play calling, whatever it is. And
then you got a receiver who's saying I'm always open
and you're not throwing me the ball. And then all
of a sudden you're like, wait, you're winning. You're winning.
It's in about touches. But Jalen Hurts can win a
(09:52):
Super Bowl. I mean that's a really good team, really
good team and maybe the most balanced team that I've
seen this year. And that's because Detroit lost some players
due to injury. By the way, I have the matchups
here according to DraftKings. These are the Super Bowl exact results.
Lions over the Chiefs, Chiefs over the Lions, Lions over
(10:14):
the Bills, Bills over the Lions, Lions to beat the Ravens.
So the Lions are prohibitive favorites to go to the
Super Bowl. With this with DraftKings, so the Lions to
beat the Chiefs is slightly more of a favorite than
the Chiefs to beat the Lions. And then it's Lions
beating the Bills, Bills beating the Lions. Those are tied
(10:36):
at plus fifteen hundred, and then you have the Lions
over the Ravens at plus sixteen hundred, the Lions to
beat the Chiefs plus twelve hundred, Chiefs to beat the
Lions plus fourteen hundred. That's interesting with what Vegas. How
Vegas sees this that the Lions feel like they are
the team in the NFC, and you got that game
against Buffalo coming up, and which might say a lot
(10:58):
about both of these teams because Buffalo, what happened in
Los Angeles and now you're going to go against the Lions. Here. Also,
I have the odds to be the number one overall
pick in the NFL Draft. I'll have that for you
coming up. Also, I filled out my Heisman ballot yesterday
late afternoon. Paulie always helps me. He takes care of
(11:19):
the actual sending it in because there are times when
I go, I don't know if I'm filling this out correctly.
It's confusing, yes, but I did wait. I did want
to wait until all the games are played to be
fair to all the candidates. And I'm not allowed to
reveal who I voted for. They ask us, they remind
us not to reveal, and I will say I probably
(11:45):
had one surprise on my ballot. It's one, two and
three is how you vote. But after the Heisman ceremony
that I can tell you who I voted for and why.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
All right?
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Eight seven seven three DP show email address DP at
dan pat dot com, Twitter handle it DP show. By
the way, the over under for first round road wins
coming up this week. We have to pick the one
game there's going to be one road team, at least
one road team to win this weekend. I feel that way.
(12:19):
This is for the college football playoffs one. The over
under is one and a half road wins this weekend.
Could you see two teams win on the road. Also,
I heard from somebody, a college football source who is well,
(12:41):
extremely plugged in, who said, you know when I said, hey,
whatever happens first round, can you recede those teams? So
let's say Clemson wins, Oregon wins, Oregon would then play
Clemson because they're twelfth in Oregon's one if that, you
know how that's how it played out. Clemson won. So
the challenge of receding, according to my source after the
(13:03):
first set of games, is the logistics of fan base
with flights and hotels scrambling in a short period of time.
Keeping in mind that that's a lot of people to accommodate.
And these are bowl games, which week long events with
their respective location. So for a lot of reasons, receding
is too complicated. That's why they won't be able to
(13:27):
do that because and he's right that we want to
see that recede them. Now, I think there's another way
around this. I think there's a better way to be
ranking these teams that if you win, you're in the playoffs,
but that doesn't mean you get a first round by
when you're in that's when Vegas will have the odds.
Because Vegas doesn't have any emotion attached to this. They're
(13:49):
going to tell you the team that has the best
chance to win the national title all the way down
to the team with the worst odds. That's the way
I think it should be done. And I think next
year or the year after that, when they expand to fourteen,
that's probably what they're going to do. So if you're
looking for receding, it's once the result happens this weekend,
then you're going to tell somebody, Hey, you want to
(14:10):
get on a flight, You got to get hotel accommodations,
and you're going to go in and then all of
a sudden, you're going to have a Bowl game atmosphere
as opposed to playing a home game.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Yes, polling, you know, based off that, there's some college
towns that can host a lot of people, and there's
some that I don't know how they do it, like Texas, Austin,
full service town, big town city, Ohio State Columbus. I've
been there with you. It's bigger than I expected. But
Happy Valley in South Bend. How does South Bend get
an influx of people come there? Do they stay in Chicago?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Do they?
Speaker 6 (14:40):
I can't imagine how many people they could host in
that city.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Well, you're only hosting one game, but you're giving them
ample time to find accommodations there. That's really the key.
And then a lot of people do stay in Chicago
and then you know whatever, an hour and a half
to South Bend. But you got Indiana fans in South Bend.
That'll be interesting trek for them as well. Like could
Boise you know, handle a couple of different you know,
(15:06):
fan bases there. So I think that that's interesting too.
But receding is not going to happen just because of
the logistics. All right, we'll take a break. I got
the odds on who will be the number one pick
in the draft. We'll take a break. Just getting started
back after this.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
I received this from DraftKings this morning. I said, what
are the odds? What are the odds on who's going
to be the number one overall pick in the draft? Paulie,
give us the top four teams right now, because I
have the four best odds to be the number one
pick in the draft.
Speaker 6 (15:51):
Top four picks in the draft as of today, Las
Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Okay, tod the odds to be the number one overall
pick in the twenty twenty five draft. Who has the
best odds?
Speaker 8 (16:06):
I'm going to say the Raiders will have the first
pick and take shrdor Sanders.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Okay, you would be correct with shudor Sanders. The odds
unfavored and right now pretty good odds to be the
number one pick, the second pick in the draft. Marvin
the player, yes, cam Ward No, Seaton, Travis Hunter Yes,
(16:36):
then cam Ward, I say, confidently, Travis Hunter. Tell Travis
Hunting yes.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
The New York Giant. Let's say it stays the New
York Giants had the second pick of the draft. You
would assume they're taking a quarterback. I know based off
the odds. There it says no, because a Hunter. But interesting.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Unless they bring in Sam Darnold to be the quarterback
for the Giants.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
Drama.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Now we got Travis Hunter, Malik neighbors with the Giants.
So it's cam Ward and then it's Jalen Milroe down
the list. Really this according to DraftKings, these are the
odds to be the number one overall pick. Wow, Jalen
Millroe will not be the number one overall.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
He will not be picked in the first round. I'll
pie the face. Jalen Molro not a first round I'm
just double checking. We're talking Jalen Milroe of Alabama.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yes we are.
Speaker 6 (17:31):
He will not be a first round.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Draft anybody want a piece of that seat? No' connor,
I'll take that all right, Pie to the face Jalen
mill See. I love when we have something to look
forward to with the draft. Now we're going to watch
it draft at the end of the first round, Jalen Milroe.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
That's the I haven't I don't think I've gotten in
on a draft day bet since Mantiteo was a drafted
I think Andrew and I had a big bet on
that one.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
What was the bet with you and McLay.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
Him Mantiitao going in the first round?
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Maybe I think it was the first fifteen and a half.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Oh yeah, maybe first fifteen Yeah, something like that. Once again,
I filled out my Heisman ballot yesterday and we saw
the results. As far as the candidates going to New York,
the last five times there were no SEC Heisman finalist.
Twenty twenty two, it happened Caleb Max Duggan and c J. Stroud.
(18:34):
It happened before that. Twenty seventeen, twenty sixteen, five and four, Paul.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
There was a Baker Mayfield. Oh what Bryce love year
where I don't think a guy from the SEC meeting.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
The other player was Lamar Jackson twenty seventeen. That's a
bloop for Paul. Twenty sixteen it happened. It also included
Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield, Deshaun Watson. Go back to five,
that's when you had USC with Reggie, Matt Lioner, Vince Young,
(19:13):
Oh four, Matt Lionert, Adrian Peterson, Jason White, the quarterback
from Oklahoma State rando, Yes, that's the stat whoa whoa
best stad of the day? Stat of the day? Here
comes that what stead of the day? Also, the last
(19:38):
time you had teammates in the final three, so you
have well Shadoor Sanders, I don't know is he being invited?
Is not okay? So you don't have teammates who are
in the top five the last It's happened a few times.
You had twenty twenty DeVante Smith, Mac Jones, five and
(19:59):
four with Lioner Bush, Adrian Peterson, Jason White, go back
to seventy two Johnny Rodgers, Rich Glover at Nebraska, and
then back to nineteen forty five Doc Blanchard and Glenn
Davis the running back. So that's according to DraftKings. What's
the pole question, we're going to go with Seaton.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Well, we're putting up there the quarterback least likely to
win a Super Bowl. We also have another one here
from PAULI. The receiver you'd want to start your team
with now, as in right now, this moment, justin Jefferson,
Tarik Hill, Jamar Chase brock Bowers. Ah, Now we see
why Paul wanted to get this agenda. Jah, Now we
(20:42):
see the agenda coming in.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Well, you got to put CD Lamb in there too.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
I guess you might have to put Molikue neighbors in
there because of his age.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Yeah, it's close. Brock Bauers is quietly having an unbelievable season,
and when he was at Georgia, I think it might
have been his sophomore year, maybe junior and you had
analysts saying, oh, if he came out, now, you know,
he'd be a number one pick or top five pick,
whatever it was. So he goes to the Raiders, bad quarterback,
play bad team, and he's going to end up with
(21:13):
one hundred catches for one thousand yards quietly, and he's
been great, and he's going after Pooka Nakua's record for
most catches by a rookie. And I think Nikoa had
one oh seven maybe with the Rams one oh five.
But Rock Bowers has a chance to surpass that. I mean,
(21:33):
that's a great situation. Let's say Shudor Sanders goes to
the Raiders, which I've been saying all season long, that's
where I see him. You get Rock Bouers there, you
got Max Crosby there, and then you got to figure
out are you able to bring you know, players in
who want to play in Vegas? Are you going to
spend money? You know? So I think, and then I
wonder if Antonio Pierce is going to survive the report yesterday,
(21:57):
is they're going to keep him the rest of the year.
I just think Tom Brady is going to play a
heavy hand in this, and I just can't see Tom Brady,
maybe in his first year as a minority owner, going okay,
that's our quarterback, now our coach. I know, and Shador
has a great relationship with Tom Brady. I think he
(22:17):
has mentored him for the last couple of years. But
I don't know if Antonio Pierce will survive in Vegas
if they end up with a number one pick. I
don't know who. Once again, I don't know anything about
the organization but only with what I've read, and I
wonder if he would be able to hold on to that.
The other surprising situation is Bill Belichick. And at first
(22:40):
when I heard that he interviewed at North Carolina, I
thought he was doing a favor for North Carolina, like here,
let me come in and Mac Brown just got fired,
so I'll come in and I'll assess your team. I'll
talk to you about the job. So people are going
to go, wow, North Belichick, North Carolina. And I don't
know if it maybe started where you bring him in
(23:02):
and say, hey, give us your thoughts on this program,
and maybe he came in and goes, hey, you know
what you're in the ACC you can win the acc
you're going to need nil money. You know, how are
you in the transfer portal? You got the Jordan brand there,
there's a lot of great things. You've got beautiful uniforms,
(23:23):
and you've always been a sleeping giant. Okay, and then
all of a sudden, it's like you have a second interview.
And then that's when I it got my attention. It's like, okay,
a second interview. Here is Bill Belichick on the Pat
McAfee show talking about his talks with Carolina. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (23:40):
I got a chance this year to take a longer
look at college football during the college season as opposed
to in the spring from the draft perspective, and that's
been interesting as well as staying up with pro football.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
So it's been it's been a good year for me.
I've learned a lot.
Speaker 9 (23:53):
And uh so, you know, I've had an opportunity to
chance talk to Chancellor Roberts, and you know, we've had
a couple a good conversation.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
So we'll see how it goes well. The one thing
I keep coming back to is how important is Don
Shula's coaching record the most wins. I think he's fifteen
away from surpassing Don Shula on the Old Time Victory List.
Belichick obviously a student of the game, the history of
the game, to be the all time winner in NFL history.
(24:21):
He was on with Jim Gray the Get Up, Let's
Go Podcast. I believe you have get up on here, Marvin.
Speaker 10 (24:30):
Sorry, I was throwed and get up forgive me.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Yeah, you've got to stop with your Mike Greenberg infatuation.
It's a Let's Go podcast. Here's Jim Gray with the question.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
I think it's widely assumed that you'd like to win
another Super Bowl, and I think it's widely assumed that
you'd like to break Don Shula's record. Is that and
are those two things in the forefront of your mind?
Speaker 6 (24:53):
Yeah, Jim, I don't have any set goals.
Speaker 9 (24:55):
I'm open to different opportunities going forward, and I'll say
value I know as they come.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Okay, that was a press conference. Bill Belichick him in
a while, I know, I know, I haven't heard from
him in a while.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
But they're paying him, just like all the other shows
are paying him. McAfee's paying more, so you get more.
I think out of that, it's like, all right, how
much you're paying me a couple hundred thousand for the
Let's Go podcast. McAfee's paying me a million dollars. I'll
give him a little bit more of an answer. This
told me one thing. Maybe the NFL doesn't want Bill Belichick.
(25:35):
Maybe he realizes there's not as many opportunities there. Do
you want to if you're a GM or you're a
team president or an owner to turn things over to
Bill Belichick? How long is he in for the ride here?
And it feels like and there's been reports that Bill
could take a college job and bring his son, who
(25:58):
is a defensive coordinator. I think for the Washington Commanders.
And if I'm North Carolina, okay, you do your due diligence.
You have to bring in candidates and you have to
go through the process. But if I can get Bill
Belichick for three years and hopefully his son is capable
(26:18):
of being a head coach, I know you're gonna have
to deal with nepotism here, but if I'm Carolina, I'll
deal with that. Let's bring him in. Let's bring in Bill.
But I don't know. I don't know if the NFL
wants Bill Belichick. And I thought he's not going to
coach again. Well, I didn't think he'd coach in college
(26:40):
unless it was going to be a defensive coordinator for
Navy or he was going to coach lacrosse or something
like that. I didn't think he'd coach in the NFL again.
But here he is, two interviews with Carolina, and all
of a sudden, this becomes a real story. And at
first I thought, man, you've got to be bored. Like
(27:03):
he's got a lot of jobs and he's making good
money here. But there's you're a coach, coaches and Belichick.
You feel like he's going to coach until he dies,
just like Joe Paterna going to coach until he dies.
And there are a few of those that that's what
they do, that's who they are, that's their identity. They
don't want to do anything else. And I think Belichick
(27:26):
is probably truly listening to Carolina. If I'm Carolina, I like,
get all these interviews done here and then we can
give him the job. And Michael Jordan comes to the
press conference, you got the you know, the jumpman Jordan
brand there, and now all of a sudden, you get started.
You get started now right away. But I think this
(27:49):
might be a signal the NFL is going, I don't know,
you're going to bring him in to run the Bears.
You're bringing your GM back. Does build this to be
a coach? You're bringing in him to run the Cowboys?
He still got Jerry Jones there Jacksonville? Do you want
to take over Jacksonville? Do you think Jacksonville is kind
(28:12):
of like what Tampa was to Tom Brady. Those guys
are ready, all they need is the right guy. Well,
you got to decide if Trevor Lawrence is the right guy,
and then you go in. You'll be able to run
that organization. I don't know if the NFL wants Bill,
and I know you got to factor in age because
I have to factor in longevity, like how long is
(28:35):
he going to be there? Can we turn this around?
Can we do something in three years? And that would
be the window that I would probably have with Bill.
And then if he's going to go to college, does
he turn it over to his son? His son, because
you know, does he lay the groundwork to say I'm
going to do this. I want my son here as
my defensive coordinator. He will take over for me after
(28:57):
three years. I could see that scenario. A couple of
phone calls in here, Doug in North Carolina leads us off. Hi, Doug,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (29:06):
Well, Dan, I have a bit of a hot take
that I thought of this weekend, and I'm glad that
SMU got in. But to me, college football now more
resembles the WWE than it does the NFL. I used
to be a huge college football fan, but they lost
me about seven or eight years ago. And they could
straighten this out tomorrow. They could come up with a
(29:28):
system of tiebreakers that results mattered. But as long as
they're doing this in a back room talking about what
games are going to get the better ratings, and we
got to admit that they're not in the athletic competition business.
They're in the sports entertainment business. It's more like the WWE.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
To me, well, I've said that it is a TV show,
but they proved me wrong by taking SMU over Alabama.
And SMU is a good team. SMU made the playoffs
coming back and scoring seventeen points in the fourth quarter.
If they score seven, I don't think they're in the playoffs.
(30:06):
They made it competitive with Clemson. They end up losing
a close one, But does it come down to favorites
does it come down to brands? Does it come down
to who the head coach is? And you probably throw
it all in the blender and that's what you're going
to get. You still get these blue bloods. But the
thing that I like about this is we got Arizona
State in there, and we got Boise stayed in there.
(30:28):
Now I hold my breath and I just say, make
it competitive. Be competitive so somebody doesn't say the following
and they never should have been in there, and we've
done that. We've done that before Cincinnati a couple of
years ago, where you go, they never should have been
in there, Well, maybe they should be or I'm glad
they got in, but there's a big difference. I mean,
(30:51):
Notre Dame went against Alabama what ten years ago, and
they should never have been on the same football field.
That's Notre Dame. Alabama was like so much better, bigger, faster,
and then so it does happen. The disparity, though, is
really closing. There's you know, you used to stockpile running
(31:13):
backs at the you now those running backs are saying,
I ain't sitting, I'm going You can't over sign over
recruit anymore because everybody wants to go and wants to play,
they want to get paid. Therefore, you have parody here,
and I think it's good for football. I don't think
you have a great team. I don't think. I mean,
(31:36):
Oregon's done everything you want them to do. I don't
know if people recognize them as a great team. And
Penn State played them close, Boise State played him close,
So there's parody there. And if you add two more
skals and maybe we do something when it comes to
the rankings to be fair to teams. I like the
(31:59):
possibility of it. I do. I just want these teams
to be able to compete, so it's not like and
you know, judging from these lines the games this weekend,
I think the closest game margin why seven and a half.
That might be Indiana at Notre Dame and Tennessee at
Ohio State. Somebody's winning on the road this weekend, somebody is.
(32:20):
Next weekend, somebody is. And I think that's the fun
part of this. That's when you get a little bit
more chaos here. And these are matchups that you don't
normally have or have in these cities with these two teams.
You know, Tennessee visiting Ohio State Indiana against South Bend,
you know, in South Bend against Notre Dame. Like that's fun,
(32:42):
I like it, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 10 (32:45):
Is there a rivalry of any sort in any sport
for Indiana and Notre Dame, meaning like as far as oh,
Indiana Notre Dame was a big matchup when Digger Phelps
went up against tot Nite or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Oh yeah, but not football, Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, basketball, Yes,
because you had two of the greatest coaches of all
time Notre Dame against Indiana with Digger and Bob Knight. Yeah, Pully.
Speaker 6 (33:08):
You could easily make the case though that Indiana football
knocking off Notre Dame football with a chance to win
the national title would be clearly the biggest win in
the program history. You know, in our lifetime for sure.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Oh yeah, yeah, No, there's not a top five greatest
wins in Indiana history. There may be three, but yeah,
to beat Notre and Notre Dame is you know, they're
a really good team. They're a really good team, solid
both sides. You know, they take the ball away. Leonard
has done a good job. So yeah, that would be
(33:39):
a that would be a surprise if Indiana went there.
All right, let me take a break. We'll get to
more phone calls coming up. Our play of the day
is next.
Speaker 1 (33:46):

Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Got by John Jay down the sideline. Twenty sitteen to
ten for your touchdown.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Bengals one on one to go.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
A forty yards strike. That's courtesy of the Bengals Radio Network.
Joe Burrow finished with three sixty nine and three touchdowns.
So that's the fourth consecutive game with at least three
hundred passing yards and three passing touchdowns. That's tied for
the second longest streak in the Super Bowl era. That's
(34:42):
your play of the day. Play of the Day is

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Okay, yeah, here we go.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
This might be obvious. Blank has been named Times Athlete
of the Year. Blank has been named Times Athlete of
the Year. They're doing like impact people of the Year
in different business policies.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
So show tany Time magazine Impact Person of the Year.
Speaker 6 (35:34):
Is that your guest?
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Marvin Kitlin Clark Okay, Seaton linel Messi. He brought soccer
to the United States. He brought the game here, Todd,
do you have a guest? I was gonna say Caitlin too,
but to be different, I'm gonna go Travis Hunter.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
He does b sides of the ball.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Caitlyn Clark is Times Athlete of the Year covered the magazine.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Okay, you're gonna get more response with that than you
would with show. Heyotani, I get it. I mean it's
like Sports Illustrated giving Dion Sportsman of the Year last year.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
I would say that Caitlyn's impact is more than impact
is more than both Otani and Sanders.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Yeah, yeah, I'm just saying why they gave it. I
mean they wanted publicity for Sports Illustrated. They gave it
to Dion Uh. Caitlin Clark deserving, but you're going to
get more opinions on her than you would show Heyotani,
and that's what you want. You want people talking about this,
and all right, is she gonna win Sports Illustrated Sports
(36:46):
Person of the Year. You could see that happening as well. Yes,
Martin should have won it last year. Okay, Okay, that's
all I hate.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
All yeah, I mean it's tough to argue that someone's
had a bigger impact well on sports than she has
this year.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
And I said this, I know there are a lot
of people are like, you're crazy to say it, but
her impact on the WNBA is similar to Gretzky's on
the NHL. When gretz came to the Kings and Caitlin
Clark goes into the WNBA. Now you have cities that
maybe never gave a thought to have a WNBA franchise,
(37:25):
So you have cities with instant franchise's expansion, and that's
because of her. You're getting cities that wanted just like
they did with Gretzky. We never thought they would have
hockey in Florida, Carolina like you're going, but it's because Wayne, Yes, Mar.
Speaker 10 (37:47):
Yeah, Toronto's got a WNBA tean just announced in one
in Portland. In Portland and in California, also like San
Francisco area.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
A couple of phone calls in here David in Ohio. Hi, David,
what's on your mind to.
Speaker 7 (38:02):
Hey? Dan?
Speaker 8 (38:03):
I don't know if you watched The Simpsons last night,
but I think after the Dallas Cowboys lost, I think
I heard Jerry Jones say thank you.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Thank you, David. Did I miss the punchline? Was it do?
Speaker 7 (38:22):
Yeah? I must have cut out as he was going though.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Oh is that what it was? That's unfortunate. Yeah, yeah,
I missed the punchline there. Andrew and Washington, Good morning, Andrew, Good.
Speaker 8 (38:32):
Morning, Dan Dennett's thanks for taking my call. Hey, I
just did have a few questions about the draft that
you guys were talking about earlier. By the way, Pauly,
I looked at three mock drafts. There's only two quarterbacks
going in the first round right now, Shador Sanders and
Cam wored That's my question too, is that do you
think that the Carolina Panthers was Bryce Young at the
helm right now will look to draft another quarterback, or
(38:55):
has he bought himself another year to go. He's had
sort of like three mini c in one season, starting
out with his first two starts, which were just horrible.
He got sat down. Then he had the three other
starts before the buy where he was kind of good,
and then he's only thrown one I int and three
tds in his last three starts, so he's kind of improved.
I just kind of want to see what you thought
about that.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
I would hold on to him. I would want to
see another year. I don't think it's fair to any
of these quarterbacks unless you know there's a Josh Rosen
situation where you go, hey, we're going to take him
tenth and then all of a sudden you see him
play and you go, ah, we got the number one pick,
we're going to take Kyler Murray. I don't know if
you're going to have a situation like that where you go,
(39:35):
we're going to move on from Rice Young. From what
I've seen the last couple of weeks, it just seems
like he's letting the game come to him a little
bit more. It seems like he has a little more
pocket presence. He has es capability. He's really slight, but
he's made them like they're competitive. As long as Adam
(39:56):
Thielen is healthy, it feels like Ryce Young is going
to be Okay, Hey, all all's fails. Where's Adam Thielen?
But look, they've gone toe to toe with the Chiefs
and the Eagles. Ryce Young has played a role in that,
and I hope that they bring him back. I hope
Anthony Richardson gets another chance with the Colts. Hour two
on the way, more of your phone calls. By the way,
(40:18):
Rob Gronkowski will join us coming up in an hour
