Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's our one on this Wednesday, Dan and the Dana
Ants Dan Patrick Show. Glad to have you on board.
Have his fun last night, got some basketball, got some
Michael Jordan I was good and you got a little
bit of football last night as well. Surprise surprise all right,
eight seven to seven to three DP Show. Email address
dpat Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at dpshow. Ross Tucker

(00:27):
our good buddy. We'll join us a little bit later on.
We'll talk about some dysfunctional teams, certainly with the Jets
with their owner talking about the quarterbacking situation, and of
course the Dolphins as well. Don Mattingly, Donnie Baseball, he's
a Blue Jays bench coach, so former player, former manager,
now a coach and I think after fifty two hundred

(00:50):
games in his career, he's going to the World Series.
So we'll talk to Donnie Baseball. That'll be in the
final hour of the program, age seven to seven to
three DP Show. Tyler is sitting by doing nothing but
waiting for your phone calls. Email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle at DP show. Full NBA slate tonight some
random college football as well. Russell Wilson had a big

(01:14):
hit on Sean Payton. We'll talk about that, and once
again Woody Johnson, the Jets owner, steps in it again.
But we begin with the NBA on NBC and Michael
Jordan makes his media debut and it was fun. This
is music to Todd's ears. Oh the best. It was

(01:42):
always Bob Costas bringing you in to watch the NBA
on NBC. Now it's Mike Jerico. Charico sat down with
Michael Jordan, and as Paulie likes to say, Michael Jordan
is Jaws. He is the Shark. He's the Shark and Jaws. Now,
if you remember the movie, it takes a while before
they actually show you the Shark.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
And that's Mike.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
They waited, they waited, and you know whatever, how many minutes,
how many you know, you know, forty five an hour
in then you got to see Mike sit down with
Mike Turco and they talked about a variety things.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Now, what in a long conversation.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I'm going to guess maybe they're sitting down hopefully and
having an hour at one point and then maybe next
month another hour. I hope it's more like Details with
Kobe Bryant, where we can understand what Mike sees, how
he played the game, saw the game, and you know,
maybe shed some light on what is it that made

(02:39):
him so great and what he sees in other players.
Here is Michael on why he decided to join INBC.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
So you let us bring a camera to to your
place here to talk to you about basketball. Why do
you want to share what you're thinking about basketball? Now?

Speaker 3 (02:55):
It's okay forward.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
You know I have an obligation to the game of basketball,
not financially, I'm okay. I mean I think more or
less from me from from as a basketball player is
to be able to pass on messages of success and
dedication to the game of basketball.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Once again, Kobe was wonderful with this when he did
his show Details. You know, Mike usually don't doesn't let
you in. He doesn't need to do interviews. He says
he's going to pay it forward. He's going to get
paid paying it forward, I'm sure by NBC. But it's
still great to have him around the game. And Mike

(03:35):
asked him about his love of today's game.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Still love it, love it like you wouldn't believe I mean,
you know, honestly, I wish I could take a magic pill,
put on shorts and go out and play the game
of basketball today because that's that's who I am. That's
that type of competition, that type of competitiveness is It's
what I live for, and I miss it. I missed

(04:00):
that aspect of playing the game of basketball, be able
to challenge myself against what people see as great basketball.
But it's better for me to be sitting here talking
to you as opposed to popping my achilles and I
in a wheelchair for a while.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, you can't replicate that.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
You can't replicate the competitiveness that you get from a
sporting event. All of these great athletes talk about that.
That's why they try to find other things that bring
them something close to that. You know, Peyton Manning, successful
business man. Tom Brady is an announcer, but he's also
an owner. You get golf involved in this for Mike,

(04:41):
you get gambling involved in this with Mike. That gets
his creative juices going. But it was good, It was
good to have him there associated with the game. I
thought it was just a great performance by NBC and
bringing that back and it felt bigger, and I think
that's what the goal is, to make this bigger. This

(05:01):
is network TV, and that's the way it used to
be in the nineties that you had network TV, but
you had more of Albert and you had Bill Walton
and Bob Costas, Steve Snapper Jones, you had that music.
In fact, John Tesh I think, is going to join
us this week, Todd, Is that right?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
You should be Jonas probably on Fridays? Okay, all right?
Is he going to play the NBC theme music?

Speaker 5 (05:26):
I understand that he will be playing some round ball.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Rock for Okay, Oh boy, you're going to be geeked
for that.

Speaker 6 (05:31):
We're having John Tesh on to play round ball rock.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yes, we're back. Yes, yes.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
If we don't win an Emmy this year, I quit.
That's it.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program. The Joe Flacco
T shirt is available. Yep, you didn't ask for it,
but you got it, and you can go to Danpatrick
dot com. You'll find the Flaco Flacco around and find
out t shirt.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
Yes, Saton, sorry, I'm not out off of John test Hit.
People will pay tickets to go to a concert to
go see John Tesh perform with like a live orchestra,
a whole live band, and he'll be like, and here's
round Ball Rock and he'll play that song and then
he'll be like, and that reminds me of when I
wrote the Entertainment Tonight theme. And then he'll do that theme.

(06:17):
That's people go and they watch that as a concert.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Hey, maybe we can get a two for Maybe we
can get a two for an Entertainment Tonight and round
Ball Rock.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
Now it's tip whstat of the Day.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's a great idea. Do you think I could ask
John Tesh live? You can ask could you do.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Stat of the Day? John?

Speaker 2 (06:38):
And then maybe we give you some examples and then
he could go, sure I could do that. Maybe he
could do it to Entertainment Tonight or round Ball Rock.

percent off basketball last night, the Thunder beating the Rockets
in double overtime and the Warriors over the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Luca went for forty three. But the Lakers in their
last nine.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Home openers or openers, I should say nine openers one
in eight, and you don't have Lebron there, and you
start to look at the roster.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
I wanted to.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
See how DeAndre Eighton was going to play, because Lucas said,
you got to get me a big man that I
can get in the lane and I can throw lobs to. Okay,
it's only one game, but I'm not quite so sure
about DeAndre Ayton. I think I penciled him in as
a sixteen to ten guy. I figured that's that's not
asking a lot. Sixteen to ten guy, number one pick

(07:47):
in the draft, and you're gonna need it. Golden State
is still dangerous. They're probably one of the three best
teams out West. You still have staph. Jimmy Butler went off,
Draymond got a technical six minutes in, so right on
Q they got some depth there. It's an odd mix.

(08:08):
It's still weird to see Jimmy Butler because he he
doesn't flow in the way the Warriors normally do or
we're accustomed to. Hey come down in transition hitting threes.
Jimmy is more mid range, get to the hoop kind
of guy. And he had a big night again last night.
But you still have Steph being Steph and that'll be

(08:31):
enough to keep you in the in the upper echelon
out west and the West is stacked and Oka see
is great. Okay, See, Now you know, we haven't had
a team repeat the last seven years. We've had a
different champ all seven years. And if I was betting,
I would probably say I'll take the bet that will
have a different team winning the NBA championship.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
It's just hard to repeat.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
But you do have a young team, might be the
youngest team still in the NBA. They have depth, you
have SGA check Homegrounn looked really good last night. Then
you know they're a balanced team, good team defensively, a
really good team as well. But we'll see what Minnesota
has to say about this, Denver has to say about

(09:15):
this Houston.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Houston's got an.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Odd roster, got a lot of tall guys, but they
don't have a point guard. Fred van Vliet injured out.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
For the year.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You need a point guard on that team because Reed
Shepherd is not your point guard. He's a guy that
you point to and you you say to the opposition,
go after Read Shepherd. That happened last night. Marvin's texting me, goes,
they're going after your guy, Read Shepherd.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
They were.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
They were singling him. Who is the guy with OKC,
who's going after him?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Case and Wallace?

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Of course you have Caseon Wallace going after Reed Shepherd
And I went, oh, they're putting him on an island.

Speaker 7 (09:54):
Yes, Marvin, Yes, I'm watching the game last night. Caseon
Wallace has the ball and they're literally clearing out for him.
I was like, when did they c for case A
will Oh Read Shepherd's guarding him.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
But okay, see, you know Sga is just he has
that inateability. There's something about certain players where you go,
I don't know how he does it, but he does it,
and he does it on a consistent basis, and he
gets you clutch points when you go for thirty five,
but you give me eighteen in the fourth quarter in overtime.
You know that's a star. When the game is on

(10:26):
the line, I want you to have the ball. And
that's why they got Kevin Durant. But they didn't go
to Kevin Durant late in the game. But that's why
you got Kevin Durant, so you have that closer. They
didn't have the closer last year. They had talent, But
that's why you got him. I want Kevin Durant. Although
this first time I watched, I looked at him and

(10:47):
I go, man, he's older.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
He's older. The light up top.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah, but you know, Mike made being bald, you know, famous,
but I would just go bald, you know, same thing
with Lebron. But that didn't make you older. It just
felt like Durant seemed older for the first time. I mean,
you got Lebron with sciatica. That's what I would have,
not one of the great athletes in the world. What's next,

(11:16):
Bunyans DNP, DNP, Bunyans. But great night, fun night basketball.
You got a full slate coming up tonight. The odds
for the World Series Dodgers Big Favorites show Hey Otani
big favorite to be the World Series MVP, followed by
Vlad Guerrero, then Freddie Freeman and George Springer. Otani, off

(11:38):
one game got the National League Championship Series MVP because
he didn't do much prior to that, but he did
a whole lot in Game four, to be the MVP
of the NLCS. I don't know who else you would
have given it to. I would have given it to
Blake Snell. I think he set the tone for the
entire series was starting pitching had the one hitter. I

(12:03):
thought that that was like, oh wow, okay, and then
the rest of the pitching staff followed suit. But I
think Otani on the name plate had them put team
effort instead of show Hey Otani, I believe and his
way of saying, yeah, it probably shouldn't be the MVP.
We all are the MVP, all right, Seaton Pole. Question

(12:24):
for hour one is what we got.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
Two options for you here? Best part of the NBA
being back on NBC is Michael Jordan or the music? Okay,
I expect the music to win in a landslide. Oh
I'm just saying okay, yeah. I want to see what
else they do with Mike. I want to see how excess,
you know, because Mike Cherico's got to go down to
Mike's place and it's basically Mike's home court advantage here,

(12:48):
and how often is Mike Erico going to be able
to go there and do a sit down with Michael
Jordan and what exactly are you talking about things that
happened maybe last week. Are you talking about kind of
a bigger picture with players or teams, or maybe his
assessment of Lebron not necessarily something that happened. So I

(13:09):
don't know how timely it's going to be.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
That would be my biggest concern is are we talking
about things that are happening right now in the league
or is it maybe a broader spectrum for Mike.

Speaker 8 (13:21):
Yeah, Paulin, it does feel like it's gonna be less
analysis and more just riffing with Mike and seeing.

Speaker 9 (13:26):
What you got.

Speaker 8 (13:27):
But he's probably the least accessible superstar of the past
quarter century. He does commercials but not interviews, and I
find it even last night the story about shooting a
free throw at a rental house. I don't know if
it was impressive or sad. He's a mixed character. I
got kind of bummed out. But because it feels like
he'd pay a billion dollars to be Michael Jordan again

(13:48):
for one year. He'd write a check for half his
net worth to be thirty again for one year, which
I think.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
Everybody would, but it felt like he brought it up.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
It grinded him oh, I wouldn't spend that money.

Speaker 8 (14:00):
I think he would in a second.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
I think no, I think Mike Mike loves his money.
I think if you said, hey, Mike, would you spend
one hundred million dollars to be you for one more year?
Maybe not a billion.

Speaker 8 (14:13):
I have his net worth is three point eight. He
could skip a bill.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Yeah, he ain't skipping anything. Mike gets paid. Mike's still
get If Mike didn't have Air Jordan, if he didn't
have his brand, Mike would be more accessible. He might
be more like Peyton Manning. But he doesn't have to work.
He plays golf and probably goes to a couple of
board meetings, maybe Zoom calls and that's it. Like Larry

(14:40):
Bird disappeared, Like that's a recluse. Mike disappeared just so
he could play golf and he doesn't have to work.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Larry doesn't want to do anything.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
He probably just wants to drink beer and you know,
hang out in French Lick, Indiana.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, Larry tried for a minute, he did, and then
I decide either he decided he didn't want that, or
that decided it didn't want him, you know, But then
he was like I think I'm good.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
But Magic is there.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Magic with his business empires, like there's certain players. Joe
Montana's not around. I mean, he was pouring drinks in
South Bend, you know, with a Guinness sponsorship. But he
does interviews, he's available. But Magic has a business empire here.
And you know he was doing stuff on first take

(15:28):
in the NBA. So and I'm curious about Barkley and
crew with their debut on the mother Ship. And you know,
now now you have, you know, some comparisons here. You
got NBC and now we're going to go. Okay, let's
see what the Mothership does. You bring in Shack. You're
bringing Charles and Kenny Ernie and they'll make their debut tonight.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
All right, take a.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Break, we'll come up with the poll question here eight
seven seven three DP show. We're back after this Dan

Speaker 2 (16:39):
We'll settle on a poll question this first hour. Your
phone call is always welcome. Ross Tucker, our good buddy.
We'll talk about the Jets. I always start at the top,
and there are times when I see these billionaire owners
and I go, how did you become a billionaire? And
then Seaton goes are they inheriting their money? And I go, oh, okay,
they did it the old fashion way. They inherited their money.

(17:04):
And then they start talking football and you go, no, no,
Woody Johnson, don't don't And what he threw his quarterback
under the bus? Do we have Whatdy Johnson?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Here?

Speaker 11 (17:17):
He is?

Speaker 3 (17:18):
It looks like he's turning around parts of it.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
You know, it's hard when you have a quarterback with
you know, with a rating that we've got you know
is I mean, he has the ability, but something just
is not jiving.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
But if you look at any any head.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Coach or a quarterback like that, you're going to see
similar results if you across the league.

Speaker 6 (17:36):
You have to play consistently at that position, and that's
what we're going to try to do well.

Speaker 12 (17:41):
But we can just complete a pass, it would look good.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
You know, you've got to complete some path.

Speaker 13 (17:46):
You got to convince him that you can do something.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Why are you talking?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
And it feels like this is kind of a bait
and switch. Hey, I'm going to rip my quarterback, but
I'm not going to say the negative about my head coach.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Eron Glenn, Aaron.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Glenn deserves Blaine Duo. He was going to change the culture.
Nothing's changed. And look, did I think Justin Fields could
be a good quarterback?

Speaker 3 (18:08):
I did.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Some part of me still thinks he can be a
good quarterback. I don't know if he's had a good
quarterback coach to help him, but playing for the Jets
does not help. And having an owner who is going
to criticize the quarterback and not his head coat, just
don't say anything like why. So we'll talk to Ross

(18:33):
Tucker about that situation there. The Russell Wilson situation with
Sean Payton is certainly interesting. Because for some reason, Sean
Payton was hoping that the Giants would start Russell Wilson,
his former quarterback, against the Broncos instead of Jackson Dart.
And here is Sean Payton, Bronco's head coach.

Speaker 14 (18:56):
I have a ton of respect for that organization. I
spent four my own years there coordinating Super Bowl, first
game in this stadium before nine to eleven, close with
the Marittish family, and you know they found a little
spark with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mayer
not too long ago, and I said, we were hoping

(19:17):
that that change would have happened long long after our game.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Okay, that's a shot at Russell Wilson. Now they had
a bad divorce in Denver. This is what I don't
understand about that. Okay, Russ might be washed, but don't
you blame ownership for making a stupid trade giving him
that money, trading those draft picks, trading those players. Maybe

(19:43):
Russ didn't help the situation with coming in entitled maybe
wanting his own office. I understand all of that. Move on,
I was disappointed in Sean. You got bon Nix, you
got the win. Move on, why are you taking a
shot saying basically, you wanted to face Russell Wilson because
we would have a better chance. Russ sent out a

(20:05):
note and said classless but not surprised. Didn't realize you're
still bounty hunting fifteen plus years later through the media. That,
of course, is a reference to him being suspended in
twenty twelve for the entire season for his role in
the Saint's Bounty Gates scandal. Yeah, is it possible.

Speaker 6 (20:25):
Coach was talking about Jameis Winston just throwing it out
there for fairness.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Yes, Todd, that tweet by Russell Wilson's like, to me
ten times more surprising than Sean Payton's comicer and so
not his character. He just kind of lets things go
and religious and you know, love and peace for everyone.
So I was really weird that he thought they need
to do that.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yeah, Russ broke character there.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
He's only broken character a couple of times, and one
was on our show when he wanted out of Seattle.
But Sean Payton said, say something about front office there,
they're the ones that made this deal. I mean, Russ
failed miserably if you're going to look at it big picture,
and Sewn didn't like him. I wanted to get you know,
he definitely wanted to get his quarterback. I understand all

(21:07):
of that. Tough to take over a team and then
you inherit a quarterback that you don't think can run
your offense. You won somebody younger that you can mold,
and Shawn's been able to do that.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
But to take a.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Shot at Russell Wilson, I mean, that's not fair to
russ If they lost the game, is he going to
say the same thing you won the game?

Speaker 3 (21:30):
What are you doing? Seton? Okay, give me a couple
of poll questions.

Speaker 6 (21:34):
They're smart enough to bring me in, so they couldn't
have been that dumb. Anyway, Let's see we got up there.
We're putting up best part of NBA being back on NBC,
Michael Jordan around ball rock. If you take Oklahoma City
out of the mix, the most threatening team last night Lakers,
Rockets or Warriors.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Oh I like that.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
I don't find the Lakers threatening. I think they're over
under his forty seven. Houston's kind of a lot of talent.
They got a really good coach. It's just a weird mix.
When they're out on the floor. I'm gonna say Golden State.
I'm gonna say, I'm gonna hold onto that. Jimmy Butler
usually gives you about two or three year honeymoon period

(22:20):
and then all of a sudden it goes bad.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
That is, first of all, seeing Jimmy Butler in a
Warrior's uniform is weird.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
It is.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
It's still just weird. It's like one of those like oh, yeah,
that's right, he's there.

Speaker 11 (22:32):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Do you think the Draymond Green went, wait a minute,
I'm the jerk on the team. You can't bring in Jimmy.
I'm that's my role.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
He probably talked to Jimmy and said, just so you know,
I'm the jerk on this team. You could be the
secondary one. But when they think of Warriors and jerk,
it's me. Yeah, right, just backing order.

Speaker 8 (22:48):
Yes, no, no, A double negative is a positive. Remember
algebra class two negatives equal a positive. I like the
Jimmy Butler window. It's short and explosive, but for a
while it's good, and then it goes bad. I'm prepared
to pick the Warriors to finish second in the West.
They're already in first after one night.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Okay, not tied.

Speaker 8 (23:11):
No place to go but down I think the depth
is interesting with Al Horford's there by the way, Oh yeah,
you got eight and four coming from Al.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Hall of Famer Al Horford and Buddy Healed off the bench.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
I like him, Okay, I love Okay, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (23:31):
Yeah, there's gonna be one game where Jimmy and Draymond
become Jimmy and Draymond and everything kind of impuls because
Steph has no control.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Well, we've seen that where Steph would get openly upset
when he sees Draymond Green doing something stupid in the playoffs.

Speaker 7 (23:47):
Like they have four titles, they could have five.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
True.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
That's why when somebody said, man, Draymond's got.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Four, Yeah, they should have five.

Speaker 11 (23:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
See, how many years do you think Steph has left?
I'm not trying to retire him on Opening day after
Opening night. Yeah, However, we're in that window with the
way he plays. How long can he continue to play
this way? Play that way?

Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (24:18):
That's actually that's the key, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yeah, because I don't know if he would want to
take the role of Klay Thompson of a spot up shooter.
But then you got to find somebody who can do
what Steph does and do with that better than Steph,
and then Steph is a second or third option.

Speaker 6 (24:38):
Well, I think he would just I don't know if
you need to replace Steph with a better version of Steph,
because that's never going to happen.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
That's nearly impossible finding the team.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
But running point though, I mean, you can find a
point guard and have Steph be more of.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
A spot up shooter, but you have to find somebody
who will do that better than Steph does, or Steph's
going to continue to do it, because then why would
Steph go to be in a shooting guard if you
can't find somebody who can replicate what he does at
least run. He can't shoot like him. But like Steph
is a he's not a point guard. Like you know,

(25:14):
we don't have positions anymore. He created his own position.
But I think trying to find somebody who well, Draymond
is your point forward, So what person are you putting
in for Steph? And then you say to step But
Steph gets open by running. He's always running. His handle
is great. Maybe, well, I hope he has a few

(25:39):
more years.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I hope.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
I mean I enjoy watching him, so I would say
three years, three years, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (25:47):
Now see and do you just mean a true number
one option? So say, if there's somebody that's an All
NBA player, So if Luca went to the Warriors, is
that what you mean as far as like a true
number one option where Steph can move over in his
lady years and just be the number two option.

Speaker 6 (26:02):
I'm saying, if you can find somebody to run point
and Steph becomes a spot up shooter because Steph maybe
has lost a step or instead of playing, you know,
twenty minutes a night at point, you can get thirty
out of them as a spot up shooters. When I'm
not saying that you need to find a better version
of Steph to do what that is because he's you know,
maybe he's just age related.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Yeah, I'm saying, yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Later in his career, how much can he do? And
can you prolong his career by having him as his
second or third option? What if you get somebody like
Yannis and then what role does Steph play? Because there
was talk that maybe Janis and the Warriors that was
in the offseason. There were reports that came out that
the Knicks could have had Yannis. Brian Winhors talked about

(26:42):
this on the mother Ship, but they didn't give enough.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
I think they feel like they have enough.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
I do.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
I think they feel like they have enough to go
to the NBA Finals. But I don't know you would
add to give up draft picks, maybe a couple of players.
I'd certainly rather have Yiannis and the greatest big man
in the NBA history. As far as shooting with Karl
Anthony Towns, yes, yes, I see.

Speaker 6 (27:07):
Yeah, it's going to add in that they feel like
they can make it that way. But that all goes well,
need a little bit of that too, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Yeah, yeah, I'm Marvin.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
But the issue is going to be if the Knicks
get Yannis and they lose man, if we just had
an outside shooter, that's what's going to happen. Because Gianni's
had an amazing championship run. Well what has he done since?

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Yeah, But the fact that they did have a chance
for him because I thought he was available, I didn't know,
you know, and I still don't know what it was
going to cost. I'm going to guess five first round
picks and probably a player or two. But if I
can get Giannis, all you want is you want that
one championship. It's not like you say, well, we're going

(27:49):
to build for the future. Man, the future is now
in sports. It's not, Hey, we're in position like the
Pirates are in position, you know, in the future. We're
building towards the future until you realize they keep building
for the future and you need the present day.

Speaker 7 (28:04):
Yeah, Marvin, but then you get Giannest and you trade
three rotation guys, you losing the playoffs. Man, if the
Knicks had more depth.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
Well, no, I'm not given three players.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
I would give five first round draft picks, and I'd
give maybe one or two players. But and what's the
honest see getting up there, see like thirty three? Yeah, PAULI, Yeah,
he's thirty three.

Speaker 8 (28:27):
But if you're the Milwaukee Bucks, I think their angle
is interesting. If they're below five hundred after twenty games,
they could trade him. Well, he's still got max value.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Yeah, that's where you got to start looking at this
and saying, is it a matter of time before he's
going to end up on another team late in his career,
and what can we do to maximize that either trying
to win and surrounding I think that's what he wanted
it's like what's your future here? Like what are we doing?
And then do you have a chance to win another championship?
There a couple of phone calls Chris and Syracuse leads

(29:00):
is so off, Good morning, Chris, what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Hey?

Speaker 15 (29:02):
Thank you Dan? Hey wind to comment in the Lakers
and also you were talking about the Jets owner talking
too much. Somebody should also tell Woody the word he's
looking for is jibing, not jiving on the Lakers. The
slim down version of Luca is unreal and going to
the who. He's always had great footwork, but he was
always kind of slow and plotting in the plant paint.

(29:22):
Now with with speed, I mean he's even more unstoppable
and healthy. Definitely a front runner for MVP. And with
Lebron in his forties, last couple of years, a ton
of nagging injuries and he's not going to play back
to back, I would think the over under on games
played in the regular season got to be like mid forties.
And I think the Lakers already are probably thinking, let's
make the playoffs top eight and have Lebron ready for

(29:46):
the postseason.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, I would limit his minutes. I think this could
be a good thing. We talked about this yesterday. I
want you fresh for the postseason. I always go back
to the San Antonio Spurs model. They didn't care about
their regular season record. Greg Popovich couldn't care less. He
wanted to make sure he had home court advantage to
start and his guys were rested. That's what this is

(30:07):
all about.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
Yeah, Marvin, the Spurs don't get enough credit for the
term load management they were doing.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Now we want to give anybody credit. I get I'm blamed,
but that's who deserves it. I know you're right.

Speaker 7 (30:19):
It was national TV games. Oh the Spurs are playing.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
No, they're not.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Not, Tim Duncan, Well, the Spurs are playing, just not
the Stars are playing. Jerry and Tampa. Good morning, Jerry.
Went's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (30:32):
Hey, good morning guys. First time Paul a longtime listener,
six foot athletic, two years old. Yeah, I just want
to make a comment on what you guys were saying
about Michael Jordan giving up one billion dollars to come
back in the league at thirty years old. I'm going

(30:54):
to talk to you in the sense of the business, Mike,
and also the competitive mid Okay, a thirty of the
NBA MVP, NBA scoring Champion, his THURSTRIGHTMV NBA Championship, and
he was the final of the MVP. Now, if he
spent that one billion dollars him would probably triple his work.

(31:15):
From what we know about Mike now at thirty.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Years old, well he only gets one year, that's what
PAULI was saying. But he talked about that competitiveness, and
you see it, guys who played golf with him. He
plays golf the way he played basketball. As far as
trash talking. He wanted to put you in an uncomfortable position.
He wanted to test you. And that's what he does
in golf. You know, in business, I'm sure he's a competitor,

(31:40):
but he's got all that money coming in. Yeah. Patrick
in North Carolina, Hi Patrick, what's on your mind?

Speaker 12 (31:47):
Good morning DP, Good morning Dan. This love your show.
I just want to tomment on Michael Jordan and his competitiveness.
I am a big NASCAR fan. Of course, ham and
Denny Hammon, you know, they owe the team Togetherler and
I watched Michael up in the pit boxes when he
is there all season long, and I can still see

(32:09):
the nchensity on his face as if he was on
the court playing at.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Times, well, even when he goes he does competitive fishing,
deep sea fishing. He's got to have the best boat,
the best crew, the best gear, all of that's that's
who he is. You can't turn that off. Pete Rose
couldn't turn it off. You know, a lot of these
guys are looking for something. What is it? Because you

(32:36):
can't play anymore. Gambling is always one that comes up.
But then you've got to find something else that you
do that can bring you some kind of competition. I
want to have that where I'm going against somebody or something,
and that's what Mike wants. That's what he's searching for.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
Yeah, poem, And when Michael reels into marlin, he berates
the marlin. He talks smack to the marlin.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
How dare you get caught? All right, we'll take a break.

Speaker 16 (34:14):
Hey guys, good morning, great shows in a while. So
if you want to talk about Marion owners who know
business and not football, we'll look around Dallas. We got
Garry Jones, so I have to sionify everything. Everybody's second
cuttle at him. Believe me that what I really want
to talk about is earlier weeks you talked about players

(34:35):
playing themselves out of your Hall of Fame. Yeah, and
I think arch Manning's gonna cost Eli that's out of
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Well, Peyton's already in Eli's going to be going well.
I think everybody just jumped the gun on Arch because
of you know, the family lineage. He hadn't had that
many starts. He didn't have great high school cus petition,
but you realized that last name, and we're still waiting

(35:05):
for that.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
The consistency.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
I thought he would be better because he has Steve
Sarkesia former quarterback and to be able to help him.
They get a lot of weapons at Texas, so I thought, Okay,
it'll be a tough schedule. But I thought, you know,
the smaller sample signs that he showed last year, there
were signs of wow, but we haven't seen it yet.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
It doesn't mean that we won't.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
But that's why I thought next year he's not going
to the NFL said that from the beginning for a
variety of reasons, he wouldn't be ready, and probably would,
you know, with the money he's making at Texas, want
to stay another year.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
But he does need to stay another year.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
Yes, I was going to say, I don't know football
that well, but it feels like there's still time for
him to figure it out. Yeah, I'm not I don't
know quarterbacking expert. But I feel like he still has time.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
No, this is where we wanted.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
I got to have a hot take already. I think, Yeah,
you can't wait. What are you talking about in today's media.
He's got time to figure it out. Still, I could
be wrong. No, No, you got till the end of
the week and you got to make your declaration on
Arch Manning.

Speaker 8 (36:11):
Yes, Paul, Yeah, and he didn't start as a freshman
or a sophomore. They stuck with Quinn yours. It was
a different path. I went back and looked Eli Manning.
He really didn't play much as a freshman old miss,
and he was a big recruit.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
So they all ramped up Curtis in Illinois. Hi, Curtis
more than DP.

Speaker 17 (36:31):
I just wanted to say, your guys' shirt game recently
has been kind of killing it between the pass hole
and then I think it was seating that came up
with the Flacko round and find out. But I kind
of got a new business model idea for your T shirts.
If you just keep doing them play related and maybe
use the name and likeness a little bit more, and
you just do your limited run that you've been doing,

(36:53):
you can like self cease and assist before you actually
get the letter.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
Thank you, Curtis.

Speaker 6 (36:59):
I was gonna asks a lawyer the Yeah, he's trying
to drum up some work for himself.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Yeah, Curtis.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
We've been down that road before with Tom Brady. I
don't want to go down that road again.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
But thank you. We appreciate that.

Speaker 13 (37:09):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Sean in Kansas? Hi, Sean, what's on your mind?

Speaker 13 (37:14):
Hey guys, thanks for taking my call again. I actually
have a bet for Fritzie. It's not your normal bet though, Okay,
Fritzy Denver plays Dallas this weekend. I am not a
Dallas fan, but I am a fan of content. If
Denver wins, I'll take a pie to the face. If
Dallas wins, you have to go see the Springsteene biopic
improved to everyone that you saw it somehow.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
So no pie to the face.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
But I need a ticket Stufton, Well, I would need
a time stamp that you're going to be there through
the entire movie. Are you open to a bet with
your Broncos against the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
Yes, let's do that.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Okay, all right, Sean? Do we know the points spread
for that? Is that game in Dallas?

Speaker 5 (37:59):
That game is in Denver.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Oh, okay, So Denver is gonna be favored by I'm
gonna say three, yes, PAULI I.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
Have three and three and a half in a couple
of different places.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
Okay, all right, So Denver at home after that dramatic
win against the Giants, and if you lose, you must
go see the Jeremy Allen.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
White portrayal of Bruce Springsteen. Yes, Paul, that movie's.

Speaker 8 (38:24):
Getting a lot of pub Do you guys like those
biopick movies, especially musicians like the Johnny Cash and so forth.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
I know Ronny Mallik won the Academy Award, but he
didn't sing Freddy Mercury. He lip sync Freddie Mercury.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
That who was it yn.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Edgern Edgerton who did the Elton John biopick. He actually
sang Elton John and had that come out before the
Queen biopick, then he might have got nominated for an Academy.
But Ronny Malick was just lip syncing and put in,
you know, prosthetic teeth, and he got an Academy Award.

(39:11):
Jeremy Allen White from The Bear I think he sings
all the songs there in the movie. And it's based
off of the album Nebraska, which is a pretty dark
album when you think about it. But they did a
movie or by that's where you hear Academy awarn buzz
oscar buzz Dan in South Bend, Hi Dan, what's on

(39:34):
your mind? Hey Dan?

Speaker 9 (39:36):
First of all, Fritz I a Pieto the face from
a bet last year. I took two because the grandkids
both wanted to give me one. But I'm gonna send
that in. But the reason I called is I was
at the show last week a Friday in South Bend.
It was so awesome. But my favorite part was when
you were interviewing the Notre Dame Athletic director and you

(39:56):
must servent my mind because he was saying something about
all we wanted, you know, play Michigan and USC and
you said, just join the conference and he's posed. For
like a split second, I thought I was going to
get in trouble because I yelled out, I'm sure you
couldn't hear you, but I was like, yes, yes, And
if people around me were just looking at me, I

(40:16):
loved it. I couldn't believe it, but I loved it
so but it was a great to see you guys,
and I just thought that was my favorite part of
the whole show.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Thank you, Dan Pete Bbaqua. And he's a sharp guy,
Notre Dame Athletic director. But you know that's when he's
telling me, we want to play USC we want to
play Michigan, and I go, well, then join the Big ten.
And then he paused for a moment. But I would
love to see those rivalries. Look, they're important to me,
but I grew up with them. You know, somebody who's

(40:47):
thirty years of age, they may not care about that,
But for me, I love the rivalries and I think
we're losing those on a yearly basis.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
Conference realignment.

Speaker 8 (41:00):
Yeah, Paulie, Notre Dame is facing Michigan twenty twenty three,
twenty thirty four.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
Yeah, I hope I'm still alive. One hour in the books,
two more to go.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
We'll talk about the dysfunctional New York Jets, starting from
top to bottom bottom of the division. Ross Tucker will
join us and Don Maddingly will stop by as well.
