Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
AH fun night, lot to recap. Come on in Gangs.
Here my starting lineup, Fritzy Seat and Marv Pauliers truly
and the back room guys. Tuesday edition of The Dan
Patrick Show. Reggie Miller will join us a little bit
later on the return of the NBA. Two games tonight,
reg will be on the call with the Warriors and

(00:24):
the Lakers, Rockets and the Thunder as well. NBC and
Peacock begin their run as a host of the NBA.
You had a couple of games last night in the
NFL and didn't really lived up to any kind of excitement.
We kept waiting for something to happen, certainly with the Buccaneers,
and it didn't. The excitement was the Blue Jays come

(00:46):
back to beat the Mariners and they headed to the
World Series. And once again, Seattle is the only baseball team,
the only current baseball team to have never made a
World Series. And you had one, you had one batter,
and then you had Cal Rawley in the on deck circle.
That's what we were hoping for, at least end it

(01:08):
that way. He had an incredible season, extremely emotional after
the game felt like, you know, it was a disappointment
or they let Seattle down. They were a great story.
They went toe to toe, but you can't win those
two games in Toronto and come home and then lose
those games. Because Toronto was a really good team from
start to finish this year and they're not finished yet.

(01:31):
They go into the World Series. They'll be big underdogs
here against the Dodgers. We'll talk a little bit more
about that coming up. Lions handle the Buccaneers twenty four
to nine, and you know, they lose Mike Evans. They're
already banged up, broken collarbone. Bucky Irving was already out

(01:52):
like this is one of those It was going right
and you were waiting for god winning Evans to come back.
And now it's not going to happen with Evans with
the can collar bone. I think he got concussed on
that as well. But the Lions did what they're supposed
to do. The Lions and the Chiefs right now the
two best odds for the Super Bowl, and not surprised

(02:12):
at all that they've kind of it took a little while,
certainly for the Chiefs, and you know, the Lions had
been there tough schedule, but that was a game they
had to have. I think if the Buccaneers had won
that one, then we would continue to be like, Wow,
they are real. The Lions had to win that game.
It felt like because you're at home, they have gone.

(02:33):
I think the number is fifty one consecutive games without
losing consecutive games. That's the longest streak in the NFL.
Right now.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Whow stead of a day, stall of a day, stead
of to day, Statuta day.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
This is the stand of the day, stat of to day,
brought to you by it Canini America, the official trading
cards of the program. By the way, if you go
to the website, you can pick up your Joe Flacco
T shirt. I didn't think I would be saying that
this year, But Flacco around and find out the T
shirt is available. We're gonna have it up there until

(03:14):
their next game. Who do the Browns play? Don't they
play the Jets? All right, we might be able to
keep it up for two more weeks there, but Bengals
in the Jets, they should say, Flaco around and find out.
First Hour brought to you by Maco. Uh oh get Flaco,
noh oh get Maco from Dense Dings Faded Paint. They

(03:35):
got you covered free estimate today. H oh, better get mako.
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock, thank you for
downloading the app, and we say good morning to our
radio affiliates, including iHeartRadio and Fox Sports Radio. Play the
a Pole question stat of the Day, All of that
forthcoming eight seven to seven to three DP show operator
Tyler sitting by with my dog Winnie, taking your phone calls. Yes, Seaton,

(03:59):
I have.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Your Cleveland Browns. Their schedule is at New England than
at the Jets home against Baltimore at the Ravens. There's
a bunch of wins in there. Actually, oh there could be. Okay,
don't you think, well, what about the Bengals. Oh yeah,
that's right. He's a Bengal now.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Damn it.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
It's so hard to separate it.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It really is.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Still Placo's history with the Bengals is so story.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
But it is nice to know what the Browns. God,
damn it, that's right.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
He's on the Bengals now, same state, same colors, save everything.
Yeah heck yeah, oh yeah, they're playing the Jets.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
They got better receivers down south. And then the Steelers,
then the Patriots. That's what the schedule is.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
I know we have other things to hit, but it's
still so nuts that the Browns would help the Bengals
for a pick swap. They gave a decent quarterback to
the Bengals who were floundering.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
But how many people said at the time, boy, they're
really giving the Bengals a boost. I don't know how
many people did. Because so they thought, well, if he
can't be good for the Browns, can't start for the Browns.
He lost his job with the Browns, how good can
he be? And my point was, you still have those receivers.
As long as you keep Joe Flacco upright, that's it.

(05:15):
He'll still be able to throw the ball and you
got those receivers. That's why watching the Texans last night
was CJ stround. I mean, I don't know how good
he is. You can say he's regressing. That offensive line
is not good. Not having an offensive line will make
every quarterback mortal. Everyone. If you look at Mahomes in

(05:37):
two Super bowls, he got humbled, he got embarrassed. He
was mortal. Why he didn't have an offensive line. If
Jared Goff played for another team. If he played for
the Texans, we'd go, what's wrong with Jared Goff in Detroit.
He's got the best left tackle, he's got a really
good offensive line, really good weapons, and we go, man,

(05:58):
he could be an MVP candidate. That's the difference. Brady,
when they blocked for him and the Super Bowl was unbelievable.
When he played against the Giants, they didn't block for
him and he got humbled. That's the difference. I don't
care how good your quarterback is, you got to have
somebody blocking for him at some point if you're going

(06:19):
to be a winner. And if Joe Flacco can get
some protection there, just like Jared Goff did last night,
Golf didn't play well. He had Jamir Gibbs. By the way,
this is how it sounded with Jamir Gibbs touchdown run
last night, force Tampa to play little the tucker down,
hands to Javeriti.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
There he goes put race right side. You got no
shot at catching that.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
Man cut fun and zone touchdown Detroit Lions seventy eight yards,
a bolt of lightning and the Lions are an extra
portaway from doubling up their lead.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
That was a reminder game where you go, oh, that's right.
He's really good, like really good. He had a knight.
That's Curtis of the Ticket, the Lions Radio Network. And
when you look at Jamir Gibbs and you look at
what he does, he's in an interesting category players who
have averaged five point three yards per carry or better

(07:14):
in their first three NFL seasons. This is since nineteen
seventy at least three hundred carries. Jamal Charles averaged six
yards per carry, a chan with the Dolphins averaging five
point five yards, c J. Spiller five point three, and

(07:35):
then Jamiir Gibbs five point three, Bo Jackson five point
three as well. I mean, averaging over five yards per carry.
That is some lofty territory there with Jamir Gibbs. But
he was wonderful last night. Baker Mayfield did not have
a great night. Kept waiting for something to happen. Kevin

(07:58):
Harlan was on the call for Westwood one and he'll
join us next hour. We'll talk about that. I don't
know if he was waiting. I kept waiting for them
something to happen. And then the Mike Evans thing, I
mean devastating, You're losing a hall of Fame receiver before
his season really even started. And here's Baker Mayfield upset
with the officials.

Speaker 8 (08:19):
Still pretty damn confused about the double review. A lot
of things in that game that a little questionable, but
a lot of frustration at the end of that and
it might be displaced onto John Hussey in the moment,
but that's I work my ass off and I put
a lot into this game. So when things that I
don't seem are deemed fair, I'm going to let somebody know.

(08:40):
And that's good, bad, and different.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, it can be expensive as well. But he was
dawn with the officials there. But that's frustration as well,
kind of taking over. But give Detroit credit. I mean,
that's a game you got to win against a really
good opponent. The Seattle win, I don't know who Seattle is. Like,
there's a few teams that I don't know how good
they are. I know that defense is good. I know

(09:05):
that if Sam Donald plays mistake free football, they're going
to be in every game. You're five and two, But
I don't know what that five and two means because
it can mean different. I mean levels of wow, they're
five and two to five and two they're Wow. Can
you believe they're five and two? But Seattle is a

(09:25):
tough place to play, and Sam Darnold has done well.
I don't know how good the Colts are, but I
did say I thought they were a playoff team we
started the season. You're in a bad division, and Danny
Dimes has played really well, and they got some playmakers there.
Kansas City. I pick Kansas City and Detroit to go
to the super Bowl. Not a big leap there, and

(09:47):
I still think those are the two best teams right now.
I don't. Maybe the Eagles are sort of up and down,
never quite sure. Not that vibe you had last year.
Maybe more like the previous year. It's still there. I
just don't get the sense it's all there, Yeah, Marvin, but.

Speaker 9 (10:08):
Having the Eagles work themselves into Chiefs category territory. As
far as oh man, they're not playing very well. Let's
wait til the playoffs start. Then we'll see how good
they are.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah, And same with the Lions. There's a few teams
like that. I would always say that about Baltimore, I'd
say that about the Chargers. I'd always say that about
the Cowboys. Regular season is fun. Postseason that's for fame.
That's where when you do something, that's when you're remembered,
or when you don't do something, that's when you're remembered.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
Yeah, Paul, you know who's catching a lot of shrapnel
today and this week is the Minnesota Vikings brass Daniel Jones,
who was on the Vikings roster last year is playing
out of his mind. Sam Darnold's playing really well and
leading them to good days and it's like revisionist history.
People are saying, man, they should have kept Sam Darnald.
Not a lot of people said that last year at
the end of the season.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
No, you had those two bad games at the end
of the year and they're like, oh, okay, it's done.
You know, the whole thing that those are two guys
who got started in New York, and when it goes
bad in New York, it goes worse than any other
city in America, especially if you're a quarterback in those cities.
And Sam Donald was a high pick, so was Daniel Jones,

(11:20):
and they failed and therefore it's all on them. And
then we kicked them to the curb. And you know,
we've kind of got to get used to this reclamation.
This comeback that you have with quarterbacks now. Granted, Sam
Donald got bounced around to a couple of different teams.
Danny Dimes just went from you know, the Giants. He
was a backup in Minnesota, didn't get a chance to

(11:41):
really play, and now you're with the Colts and good
Baker Mayfield. Same way. I mean, Jared Goff got kicked
to the curb by the Rams when you think about it,
because Matthew Stafford was available. Hey, here's the consolation prize.
We want you to take some first round draft picks
as well. Will you please take your golf? He got
them to a super Bowl. Jared Goff is a good quarterback,

(12:04):
good quarterback, really good quarterback. But goes back to you
got a good offensive line? I got Sewell there that
I feel a whole lot better when I go to
the line of scrimmage where I go, yeah, I got him.
And if i'm you know Jamior Gibbs, I go, yeah,
I know he's going to take care of one or
two people. All right, eight seven seven three DP show

(12:26):
which poll question Seaton.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Oh my gosh, we've got seven at least right now?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Seven yeah? Seven? Okay, give me a give me a
taste here before we take a break. Taste before the break.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Yeah, we have two pole questions based on your five
and two commentary. Okay, all right, a little thing we
like to call more for Real? Is that the official title? Yes,
there's a more for Real pole question? Okay, AFC and
NFC version. All right, we have a whose career would
you want?

Speaker 8 (12:58):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (12:58):
I have? But would you rather?

Speaker 4 (13:00):
We have a I'm rooting for dot dot dot?

Speaker 2 (13:02):
We have a witch is worse? Dot dot dot?

Speaker 4 (13:04):
We have a you can pick win to win a
title dot dot dot.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Okay, you did say something. Would you rather be a
cheater or an underachievery? Yes?

Speaker 8 (13:14):
Right?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Cheeter underachiever coming up later?

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Okay, Yes, you're gonna have to explain that one, like
what what spurred that one on? Would you rather be
a cheater or an underachiever?

Speaker 10 (13:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Well there's a longer sentence to explain both of those.
But if we're doing this sort of abbreviation, get right
to the point. Okay, cheater underachiever? Okay, then we'll wait.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Twy for the break. Yes, ton is the more for really?
What are we talking about here? The pole question?

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:40):
That's all right, thank you, Tod. We have a lot
of letters on this show, most must win game of
the weekend, and you've got a few of those.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I called to do it all by a letter and anagram.
We're a big Anagram show, Danagram.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
All right, we'll come back. We've got phone calls, Settle
on a poll question, Reggie Miller in the final hour,
and Kevin Harlan, who was on Ritchie. Get the Kevin
Harland voice ready to go. This is the NBA on
Prime video. I cann't believe what I just saw. I
want to know how Kevin Harlan's voice is this morning,

(14:16):
because he did the Denver Giants game, and then you
go from that atmosphere and then you do the Detroit
Lions game with Tampa Bay last night on radio, and
then he's got the Lakers on Friday night. Wow, I
want to schedule. All right? Well, take a break back
after this Stan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Got a lot of options for the pole question recapping
the Blue Jays and the Mariners. I was polling for
the Mariners because they're the last team, last franchise that's
never even been to a World Series, and I would
like to have seen the big Dumper continue his season.
What he ended up with sixty five seventy home runs

(15:36):
this year? I think sixty No including the regular season,
oh total, Yeah, yeah, so I think sixty five. I
think he's hit more home runs if you include the postseason,
than any player at americanly history, if that sounds right.
But he was in the on deck circle, Julio Rodriguez
was at the plate, and he had Cal Rawley there

(15:58):
in the on deck circle. It was a reminder night
for George Springer because you go, I'm not trying. He
was with the Astros, Yes, those Astros but his numbers.
He's not a Hall of Famer, but he's the Hall
of I want that guy on my team, especially in
the postseason. He has played seventy eight games and he

(16:19):
has twenty three home runs, so he's third, tied for
third I think on the all time postseason home run list. Now, granted,
more postseason games, you know, Mickey Mantle and some of
those players played in far less playoff games because there
were less matchups. They didn't have you know, NLCS ALCS,

(16:39):
the divisional series, they didn't have a wild card. But
George Springer, George Springer is unbelievable. And here is the
call last night as he wins the American League Championship Series.

Speaker 12 (16:54):
Quanoh pitch swing in a fey ball let field and
dep for Rosa dat.

Speaker 13 (17:00):
It's good Springer dagger four three Blue Jays in the
bottom of the seven.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
I love that a Springer Dinger and he is clutch.
You talk about leadoff hitters, leadoff home runs, and he's
got two ninety three, two hundred ninety three home runs
regular season in his career, so I think he's one
out of every three at bats in the postseason he
hits a home run and one out of five maybe
that he hits a home run in the regular season.

(17:37):
Those are pretty good ratio numbers there for George Springer,
four time All Star, he was an MVP of the
World Series in twenty seventeen. You still have the astros
cheated stench that still permeates with all these players, not
as much. You know it'll be in his bio, but

(17:57):
really I think it's you know, kind of focuses or
centers on Al Twovey. But Al twove is gonna be
a Hall of Famer. But George Springer, that's money. That
is a guy in the postseason and he's got a
banged up knee because he took a foul ball off
his knee, and I know there'll be revisionist history if
you can't walk him. I would have walked him. I

(18:21):
would have walked him because or I would have pitched
to him because of the knee. I didn't think he
was taking healthy swings, and John Smoltz talked about this.
Now I can talk about his history not wanting to
pitch to him, but I'm talking about what happened in
this series. I didn't think he was completely healthy and
he was going down on one knee sometimes when he
was swinging the previous game, I would have pitched to

(18:43):
him in that situation. I wouldn't have given him that pitch.
It's one of those where you go, how about the corners?
That was right down the middle and he was waiting
and that was awesome. So George Springer and Seattle's how

(19:04):
many ounce away? Like eleven ounce away? Yeah, Marvin, do.

Speaker 9 (19:07):
You think he's in that same category as maybe like
a Madison Bumgarner. I don't know if Madison Bumgardner's going
to the Hall of Fame or not, but I know
when it was money on the line, yeah, he was
gonna come through.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Yeah. I think there's a few of those, not Hall
of famers, but all of I want that guy on
the mound for my team, or I want that guy
in the field. And Springer was a DH He couldn't
you know, he didn't have the mobility because he took
a foul ball right off the knee. But that brings
us to our first poll question, Seaton.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Indeed, indeed it does, Dan, So would you rather Okay,
I'm gonna phrase this a little more nicely, Okay, would
you rather dot dot dot win? On a team accused
of cheating, or be a generational talent who never wins anything.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
Now, I wrote that poll and it was a little
differently worded. Earlier it was would you rather have the
career of Mike Trout or Springer?

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Okay, I'd rather have Mike Trout's career this he's one
of the great players of all time. I mean Springer
right place, right time, and performed and yes, that's a
big stage. I was watching Cam Newton or a clip
of Cam Newton saying that he wouldn't give back his

(20:25):
MVP that he won to win the super Bowl because
he said, winning an MVP, I'd take care of my family,
not paraphrasing here, you know the super Bowl that's different.
I was the MVP of the NFL. Now, I think
if it was just a one off and I'm Cam

(20:45):
or I'm Matt Ryan, I'd rather win the Super Bowl
because you still get the benefits that go along with this,
because you're really good quarterbacks and you get paid. But
Cam said he'd rather have the MVP. If I asked
George Springer, would you rather have your career Mike Trout's career?

(21:06):
Do you think George Springer is going to say I'll
take mine.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Hell yeah, most people would say they'd rather have their career.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
You know, then, even though you have you're attached to
the Astros, so you you have to factor that in.
It's it's in the first paragraph of your bio. You
have to have that.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
You got to take that with you in the two
in the first paragraph, it's potentially two time World Series Champion,
two time MVP. Perhaps in those Yeah, one of them
is the Astros.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yes, yes, yes, Todd.

Speaker 9 (21:41):
At the top of the other bio was one of
the all time grace that didn't do a thing.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
I don't think it's bio a little.

Speaker 9 (21:49):
Differently, but it's basically, here's a list of the great
players that have no titles and did relatively nothing in
the postseason.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, I think they might soften it a little bit,
you know, with his Hall of Fame plaque.

Speaker 6 (21:58):
Yes, Paul Trout versus Springer is our baseball version of
Calvin Johnson versus Julian Edelman. It's close, it's apples and oranges,
but it's the baseball version of that discussion. Yeah, I'm
going Springer.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Including the cheating allegations.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Yeah, with Edelman.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Yeah, well he and him he got closed.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Oh yeahoid eh, yeah, I think I said I'd take Edelman.
So maybe I'm not following my own lead of you
want to win, you want to win?

Speaker 4 (22:27):
Yes, right, there's like a certain part of this is,
say cheating or underachieving. Another part of it is being
dominant or being a winner.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
You know.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
I for some reason it feels weird to say this,
but winning is being underrated, right, Winning is pretty great?

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Yes, Paul and Springer's not a niche player.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
A guy who tagged along for a World Series he
was directly responsible for one four All Star appearances.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Is really good.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
He got a lot of his career and made a
lot of though.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
He hit five home runs back in twenty seventeen to
be the World Series MVP. What other poll questions? I
like that one.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
So we're banging the drum for Springer?

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Oh wow, that's all right, that's like by guns, be
bye gods.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
I was like years ago, moving on living the present.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Yeah, Dodgers have moved on from it. Yeah, No they haven't. No,
they haven't.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
Uh so well we're gonna put up there probably both
versions of that. Would you rather have the career of
George Springer or Mike Trout. We would also put Win
on a team of cust of cheating or be a
generational talent. Who ever wins anything, we're gonna put up there.
Are you rooting for the Blue Jays of the Dodgers?
I expect heavy Dodgers on that, But maybe I'm wrong.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Yeah, No, it's gonna be Dodgers. We're on in Toronto,
but we're Morning drive in Los Angeles. Yes, but nationwide,
don't more people? More people want to see the Blue
The Dodgers already won. They spent all that money and
the whole buying titles thing, and it's not fair and
deferring Otani's money.

Speaker 9 (23:59):
He's only making two I guess the other sixty eight
million down there. I think people would like to see
the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Dodger fatigue, is that what you're saying?

Speaker 4 (24:08):
Saying?

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Yeah, I'm saying Dodge fatigue.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
I think if Seattle was in there, then you would
get a lot of people rooting for Seattle. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
See, yeah, dude, people hate the Dodgers enough to vote
against them in the poll question, I don't know if
they do. Maybe I'm underrating Dodgers fatigue though.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
And maybe you get the casual baseball fan who wants
to see Otani be great but don't want to see
the Dodgers win another World Series. But it's kind of
hard to do that since he pitches and he hits.
Don't you want to see O'tani against Blad Guerrero and
throw in George Springer as well, maybe in a deciding game.

(24:48):
That would be good. That'd be fun. All right, what
else do we have?

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Uh, let's see, we have witches with this one's from
Todd which is worse early overseas NFL games or Monday
night double headers.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I think there doesn't occument to be made for both
of those things. Okay, really don't like the double header thing.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
I like to cut you out a one game.

Speaker 9 (25:09):
I know some obeit, what if it's twenty to three
in the middle of the second quarter or whatever.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
I don't we don't need two games. The overseas one
has always bothered me. It just never feels real. It
always feels like that's like a preseason game. You know,
you kind of watch it, and games usually not very good.
It's always raining or it's damp or.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
Something they sent like the practice squads out there, Like yeah,
you guys play this morn.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah. We didn't send everybody over there to London.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Yeah, yeah, Paulie, I don't think I need a double
header on Monday nights this often. I think they do
it usually the first week of the season a couple
of past couple of years.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
It's way too often that I've got.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
A lot of football in me after Saturday and Sunday,
I'm chock full of football.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
One more feature game and he's up there.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Yeah, but we have all these international games and you
got these double headers on Monday night. That's the future, sure,
certainly the international games. But there's I mean, there's only
so much room in the NFL window here. I think
that's the interesting part of all of this, trying to
cram it all in, and they really are going to
test the boundaries of can we give you too much? NFL?

(26:16):
What else do you have there? Seaton?

Speaker 4 (26:19):
We have the MF for pole question. If you want
to get into that right now.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
You can ask the question all right more for real?

Speaker 4 (26:25):
In the NFC, all of these teams are five and two.
The forty nine Ers, Seahawks, Rams, Buccaneers are all five
and two.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
I like the Rams a lot. The only reason why
I didn't pick them to go to the Super Bowl
is I didn't know if Matthew Stafford would hold up.
But he's been great. I mean they didn't even have
pookin Aakua, but I yeah. And the Buccaneers, that's a
lot of injuries. You're running back, you're Hall of Fame

(26:53):
wide receiver. It takes you down a notch. The Niners
and too many injuries, too many, and you've lost guys
for the season, Warner and Bosa. And I'm fine with
mac Jones. I don't think there's a drop off at all.

(27:15):
And I think what he's done has been impressive or
a reminder, hey, I can still play. And it goes
back to getting a quarterback in the right situation with
the right people, and you could see exactly how good
somebody is or how good they you know, Trey Lance
was there. Trey Lance was there in San Francisco. He

(27:37):
had this opportunity. He can't play, and you have one
of the great offensive minded guys play callers and weapons
and he couldn't play. Mac Jones got out of New England,
finally got somebody who could actually help him become a
better quarterback and Kyle Shanahan's been able to do that,

(27:57):
all right, any other pole questions man this a lot today.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yeah, we got the mfor for the AFC two. These
teams are not all five and two, but they're still
worth asking the question. You got the Patriots at five
and two, Steelers are four and two, Colts at six
and one, Broncos at five and two.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
More for real, more for real. I like I like
New England as an underdog, but I don't love them.
I liked them a lot. Pittsburgh, I'm not sure. I'm

(28:34):
just not sure who else is in their seaton the Colts.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
We have the Broncos, Colts, Steelers, Patriots.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
I got to stick with the Colts because I thought
they were a playoff team. I didn't think they were
going to be this good and dominant. I'm gonna stay
with them. Denver has been eating squeaking by but that
says a lot about their coach and their quarterback. They
got a really good defense that didn't show up in
the first three quarters, but maybe not in the fourth
quarter either. They gave up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Yes,

(29:07):
they also got robbed in Indianapolis with the whole give
them and we lost in the final seconds against the Chargers.
They could be six and one or seven and zero
even okay, or they could.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
Be they could be three.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yeah, it works that way time. Yeah. Also, I want
to look, I'm going to go back to the Lions
trade with Matthew Stafford in the Rams, and you know,
sometimes this gets lost when you get draft picks and
then you forget who a team takes with those draft picks.
So you send Stafford to the Rams, they win a
Super Bowl and you get Jared Goff consolation prize, and

(29:44):
then you get how many first round draft picks did
they get Paulie.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
They got two and one more other draft pick.

Speaker 6 (29:50):
They parlayed that draft, that trade into Jamison Williams the
wide receiver, Jamier gives the running back, and Sam laport
of the tight end.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
Yeah, three o their prime players.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's a case of both teams winning. But if the
Lions would win the Super Bowl, this is one of
those all time trades. I mean it worked out for
the Rams. Obviously it's still working out for them, but
it certainly worked out for the Lions because you get
Laporta Gibbs, you know who's tough, Campbell kid, out of

(30:23):
Iowa and he's all over the place. He's not afraid
to hit somebody, and he's he like, they wind up.
And I told you the NFL is going to address
this at some point where you're trying to knock the
ball out, and he said, until they find me. And
even when they do that, I'm still going to do this.
They're just winding up and trying to punch that football
out and I'm waiting for the NFL to go No,

(30:47):
We're not going to allow that anymore. Stop that.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
Yes, boy, you go back to that twenty twenty three draft.
I just looked it up again. For the Lions. They
got critiqued pretty hard. Taking Jamir Gibbs at twelve too high,
you know, taking a middle line or Jack Campbell at
eighteen too high, Sam Laporta from a college that didn't
score a lot of points in Iowa too high.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
They got critiqued for that draft strategy.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Also, when you think about culture and identity, when Dan
Campbell took over in Detroit, Hey, we had fun with him.
He was a punchline. You know. He came in there
and we're gonna bite knee caps and all of that.
We're like okay, but you realize he's a really good coach,
and that's what you're looking for. Your coach is the overseer,

(31:33):
he's the CEO, and he is responsible for your culture.
And I know that's a word we throw out. It's
like chemistry, you know, like I don't know being a leader,
but he did establish something there and there's a sense
of the Lions know who they are and how they play,

(31:53):
and we know who they are and how they play.
But also, I think these guys who didn't achieve great
success sometimes they're still looking for validation. And Dan Campbell
wasn't a regular player in the NFL. He was a
backup tight end. So you go into that game. I
got to prove. I got to continue to prove. My

(32:16):
whole life has been proving. That's why I think great
players don't necessarily make great managers or great coaches, because
you got to be hungry, you got to be I'm
never quitting, whereas if you're great, you're like everybody, Hey, guys,
you got to catch up to me. I don't think
Michael Jordan would have been a good coach. He wasn't
a good GM. But Phil Jackson was a role player

(32:41):
but also he had Michael when he had in Shack
and Kobe, but he was still that underdog. And you
find these coaches who weren't great, but they turned out
to be great coaches.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
Yeah, Paul, you can make the case Steve Kerr's career
is like that. He only started thirty games in fifteen years.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
Now.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
He was really important to couple title runs, a bunch
of title runs, but he was never the star or
the focal point. And he learned a lot probably being
on the bench of those coaches.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Yeah, but it's once again, it's I'm constantly being underestimated.
I got to keep fighting, fighting fighting. That's the mentality
of a role player or a guy who's been traded
or a guy who's been cut, a guy who's kind
of marginalized. And then you see those coaches that this
is how I show you how great I am, or

(33:28):
at least that's the presentation that you get. All right, well,
take a break, we'll get to phone calls here. Coming up.
We got Kevin Harlan, who was on the call for
Westwood one last night and also had the Giants Broncos game,
and then he's got NBA coming up later on in
the week Reggie Miller on the call, Lakers and Golden State.
He'll join us in the final hour of the program.

Todd told me that Reggie Miller is in Oklahoma City.
He will be there with Mike Turko, that he'll join
us coming up the final hour of the show. So, okay,

(35:17):
c with the Rockets. I think the Rockets have the
tallest starting lineup in basketball?

Speaker 5 (35:24):
Is that a good thing?

Speaker 2 (35:25):
I don't know. I just thrown out a stat. I
don't know if it means anything, but I did see
that where I think they have the tallest starting five.

Speaker 9 (35:34):
Yeah, smart in basketball? Isn't that normally a good thing
in today's NBA. But they got guys that can play.
It's not like they have a bunch of stiffs.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Yeah. Although I remember in high school when you would
see the opposing team get off the bus and there'd
be like a couple of guys who were six four
or six' five maybe six, six AND i, go oh,
man they must be.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Good there's nothing worse than seeing a kid with facial
hair get off the.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Bus you're gonna get. Killed we're gonna get. KILLED i,
remember like it was, yesterday eighth, grade and this guy
took a jump shot AND i, went, damn he's got
hair unders.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Arm, yes, Right oh my, god that kid's got, hair
unders Aren't we're.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Dead we're in. Trouble and then the next year we
played against this. Kid he was the same. Size he
never got bigger Because i'm, Thinking, god we're gonna get.
Crushed and then all of a, SUDDEN i would see
him throughout high school and be, like, man you used
to be something in eighth, grade, dude But i'm the man.
Now still don't have hair under my, arms But i'm the.

(36:33):
Man i'm the. Man come and guard.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Me, Yeah, paul are there more great players in THE?
Nba under six six or over sixty? Six i'll throw
out some unders H, Shay, Gilgess Donovan, Mitchell Jalen. BRUNTON
i definitely under six to, Six Steph, Curry Anthony. Edwards
that's six guys that are first team in first or
second TEAM.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Nba, okay IF i gave you the under six six
or the over six, six.

Speaker 5 (36:59):
The over six six guys Are Yannis. Joki how about.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
We have An All star game where the over sixty
six and the under sixty. SIX i love that hits
out to the. Commission, yeah, yeah, Yeah, hey you know he'll, Say,
hey everything's on the, table everything's on The.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Tabers and unders that we're in this new Betting dan And.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
Vermont good, Morning, dan what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (37:18):
Today Hey, bud first, time long. Time i'm apparently a
short five twelve and a half.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Shut shout out To.

Speaker 10 (37:31):
MARVIN i also have small.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Hands my question is why don't we give credit to
teams who make the playoffs every?

Speaker 2 (37:38):
YEAR i know that you gain people for what are
you going to do in the?

Speaker 10 (37:42):
Playoffs but isn't it hard to make the?

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Playoffs BECAUSE i know you, Guys, well.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Give me an, Example, Dan well For Lamar jackson's for,
example in the in The ravens their their perennial playoff
appearents and everybody gave. THEM i know he's going to
win the big, game but when you're going against.

Speaker 10 (38:03):
The, best it's not always.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Easy AND i know you guys with The Sports, semmy
you guys don't get, danged but you're there every.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Year oh you, Go, Hey, dan you can dinghis for
not winning A Sports. Emmy as long AS i get,
Nominated i'm in the. Game but should we have? Won?
Yeah Should Lamar jackson win a home playoff? Game, yeah
that's not asking. Much should The cowboys win a home playoff. Game,

(38:31):
Yes i'm not asking for the bottom line and winning
A Super. Bowl i'm asking you to win a home playoff.
GAME i don't think that's asking. Much, yes you made the, Playoffs,
okay what's the? Goal is the goal to make the
playoffs or is the goal to win in the? Playoffs
and we know the answer to. That So i'm not

(38:53):
holding you to a higher. Standard but at that, position
you know that's the most decorated because position in all the,
sports the most talked, about the most. Lucrative when you,
win it's. Forever If Tom brady went all Those Super
bowls but didn't have a winning, record you could probably
make a case that Maybe Joe montana is still a better,

(39:15):
quarterback but he won. Those Even lebron he got there
and that's. Part that's what it's all. About it's getting
there to play for a. Championship andrew And, Washington Hi, Andrew.

Speaker 14 (39:30):
Good, Morning, Dan, dan that's thanks for taking my.

Speaker 10 (39:33):
Call what a night For washingtonians last, night from the
ups and downs of The mariners losing in the bottom
of the seventh to The George springer dinger and Then
seahawks winning but really looking like they lost because of
how many, TAKEAWAYS i, mean how many turnovers they. Had
they didn't look that. Great they just barely squeaked by
even to the. Score the final score didn't tell the whole.

(39:53):
STORY i do have a stat of the.

Speaker 14 (39:55):
Day i'm really looking forward to The lakers this, Year
lakers and The. Warriors, tonight The Leydoncic. LAKERS i think
they have a good chance of going to The Western Conference,
finals maybe making the WHOLE Nba. Finals but my stat
of the day is, this and this was very. Surprising
it's a numerological Palindrome Saturday day because The seahawks have

(40:17):
the Best monday night football record ever at thirty one
and thirteen On Monday.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Night all, right stat of the, day stat of the?

to win the. Championship no no no no no no.
No The rockets or The, lakers or The timberwolves or
The warriors hold on. Answer after the, break Either Kevin
