Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Play of the day, Pole question, stat of the day,
Coming up. Draft night tonight, day one of a two
day affair. Jay Billis from the Mothership will join us.
Coming up. You have the Nets with five first round picks.
They got a total of six picks. They have a
second round pick as well. Dallas, San Antonio, Philly and
Charlotte will lead off the festivities. Celtics ship Chris tops
(00:28):
porzingis to the Hawks and the Map. They locked up
Kyrie Irving for an extension and the Pelicans and the
Wizards had a trade with CJ.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
McCollum.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
And who was the Jordan Poole. I was gonna say,
the guy who got punched.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Oh no, that is that the lead for them?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
That's kind of how he's known.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Probably you know, the guy who got punched, you know
by Draymond Green, his teammate Jordan Poole. Yes, that guy.
So I think there's gonna be you know, more trade action.
I don't know if it'll be a flurry, but I
do think that things are changing in the NBA. And
we'll get to what the Denver Nuggets were accidentally or
(01:09):
maybe not accidentally hinting at yesterday during a press conference
that'll be coming up eight seven seven to three DP
show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com Twitter handle a DP
show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls.
We look at the draft sometimes as well. We'll find
our star in the draft, and there are some stars they're.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Just not ready made.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Keep in mind, Cooper Flag is around the same age
as Lebron was when Lebron came into the NBA. I
think there's maybe eight or ten days difference between their ages,
and Cooper Flag kind of circumvented the Hey, you got
to go to college for a year, so he reclassified.
He should be graduating from high school. He should have
(01:54):
just graduated maybe last week. But he reclassified, played on
a real good team at Mont Verde in Florida, and
went to Duke. So now he's coming out as an
eighteen year old, same age as Lebron. Basically, here is
Lebron James talking about Cooper Flag.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
I personally think that he wants to be great. You know,
he had a hell of a year at Duke. Guy
that can do so many different things on the floor,
can play with the ball, can play without the ball.
You know, his jump shot is going to continue to
get better, super athletic, quick second jump.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
And also he gets.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
To join a team that's established right with Hall of
Fame guys Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Kyrie, Irvin right off
the bat, Hall of Fame coach Jason Kidd. You know,
these guys are like they're gonna they can give him
the whole blueprint, and I think that's going to be
an incredible thing for him to have.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Lebron didn't have that when he came out went to
the Cavaliers. That's from the Mind the Game podcast that
Lebron does with Steve Nash. If Cooper Flagg was a
quarterback and we were leading up to the draft, we
would have already heard the he doesn't do this. Here's
the downside, here's some negatives. I haven't heard any negatives
of Cooper flag Now. I'm sure there are. As Lebron
(03:12):
said he can improve his jump shot. But in the
NFL draft, what happens with these quarterbacks. They either start
out where you don't know much about and then you
get a riser and then all of a sudden, somebody
slips into the first round or in the lottery, or
this guy can't miss to then leading up to the draft,
(03:32):
he can miss. We got big questions about him. Happens
every year. But with Cooper Flag, I mean, we don't
nitpick with NBA draft picks. We don't nitpick with high
draft picks in Major League Baseball, but we do with football,
certainly at the quarterbacking position. The Cooper Flag, he is
a quarterback or should be treated as a quarterback. And
(03:55):
we'll talk to Jay billis what are the negatives or
downside or things that. I mean, he's only eighteen. He
can't be you know, the full package right now. Now,
that doesn't mean he won't be, but at eighteen, he's
going to be an eighteen year old at times out
on the NBA floor. But you know, looking at what
(04:15):
he's done so far, seems to have done everything right
and it feels like there's a lot of momentum on
him going to the right team. That's key too. As
I talked about this many times in different sports, you
can be great and go to a bad team and
not have a great career. You can be good and
go to a great team and have a great career.
(04:36):
And this is where you look at just how much
is expected of you. Victor weinban Yama went to the Spurs. Now,
I think he's going to be the best player in
the sport within the next couple of years. But he
wasn't asked to do much. He's playing in San Antonio.
We've seen players play there. There's not a you know,
the media scrutiny. He was able to kind of develop.
(04:58):
Hopefully the blood clot is going to be healed and
he'll be fine and that won't be an issue for him.
But you go there, how many wins did San Antonio
have last year? How many did they have the previous year?
Nobody cared. We allowed him to develop. Cooper Flag's going
to go to Dallas. I don't think he'll be the
rookie of the year because he's going to go to
(05:20):
Dallas and they'll have Kyrie eventually, you have ad you
have Klay Thompson, they got some front court guys, and
he's going to be asked to do Basically, it'll change
from night to night. Probably, Hey, you might be scoring
a little bit more. Hey, it might be rebounding a
little bit more. Maybe it's passing a little bit more.
(05:40):
I don't think that he'll be locked into you better
get your twenty shots, you better get you know, you
got to get twenty points. I don't think that he'll
be asked to do that. I think if he does,
that'll be a luxury. But I think Jason Kidd easing
him in and letting him find out exactly what this
team needs and when what he can add to that team.
(06:02):
But you've already got guys who've won championships. You got
an experienced head coach, as Lebron said, you got a
future Hall of Fame coach and Jason Kidd. And now
you're asking Cooper Flag to just be one of the guys.
If he went to Washington, if he went to Brooklyn,
he doesn't. He's not allowed to be just one of
the guys. Now he's going to be when you watch
(06:23):
them play, you're going to kind of have to find him.
If he played with Brooklyn or Washington or some of
these other bats Charlotte, you're going to be like, oh Man,
because defenses can't load up on him in Dallas, in Brooklyn,
in Washington or Charlotte. They will so he can stand
out for a variety of reasons. But I think going
to the right team at the right time. And understand this,
(06:48):
he's eighteen, and I said, he's probably going to make
a billion dollars on the court in the NBA when
it's all said and done. Let's just say he's an
All Star many times over. Let's say he's an All
Star six times, seven times, eighteen years of age. That
next contract twenty two, next contract twenty seven, twenty six,
(07:10):
next contract thirty thirty one. And these are contracts where
you're going to make two hundred and fifty three hundred
million dollars at least. The new TV deal is eleven years.
He is going to be twenty nine years of age
when this new TV deal is done. Over the course
of those eleven years, what's he going to make? He'll
(07:30):
make a half a billion dollars. And that's just on
the court. Somebody's got to get paid, Like we go
crazy when we go can you believe that guy makes
fifty million? Well, there's an amount of money and you
got to pay it to somebody because you only have
a certain number of players on the roster, and that's
(07:50):
where you're going to get somebody's going to get to
eighty million dollars here and it's probably Shay Gilgis or Luca.
At some point they're going to make eighty million dollars.
I mean, we're not far off from one hundred million
dollars a year. But Cooper Flag is ready to go
number one to the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yes point.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
They project a few different business websites project in twenty
twenty eight, the Supermac's salary will be seventy two million
dollars a year and should go up six million a
year every year after that at least.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
But we do lock in and we go okay, maybe
a Luka or Victor Wimbenyama or Cooper Flag. But there
are times when you get guys who are undrafted. You
know Fred van Vliet, he was one of the cornerstones
of the Raptors when they won a title. Ben Wallace
undrafted heart of the Pistons four championship run, Hall of Famer.
You know, you get these guys where they kind of
(08:44):
slipped through the cracks. But those guys are so instrumental,
and it leads me to what's going on in Denver,
because yesterday the Nuggets held a press conference. Josh Kronki,
his Dad Stan Kronky owned Dan the owns.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
A few other franchises.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
So you're doing sort of I guess exit interview. They're
just hiring a couple of front office people. They of
course they fired Michael Malone at the end of the
regular season. They took OKAC to seven games. When they
lost OKC, Joker and I'm paraphrasing, talked about we need
depth because they had depth when they won a title.
(09:23):
And I said, this was malpractice going into this last season.
I said, you didn't do anything. I don't want Michael
Porter Junior. He's not going to help me. I like
Aaron Gordon a lot. Jamal Murray gets banged up, you
better have some guys on the bench. And I'm listening
to Josh Cronky, one of the owners of the Nuggets,
(09:48):
and he has this to say, Now, once again, this
is unprovoked. I don't think anybody went to the press
conference is going to ask him about the possibility of
maybe maybe trading the best player in the game.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
I think that for us as an organization, going into
that second apron is not necessarily something that we're scared of.
I think that there are rules around it that we
needed to be very careful of with our injury history.
The wrong person gets injured, and very quickly you're into
a scenario where that I never want to have to contemplate.
And at the trade in number fifteen, you know, we're
very conscious of that pushing forward and you know, providing
(10:24):
the resources that we can when the moment arrives.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
But that second apron is it a hard cap?
Speaker 6 (10:30):
I'm not one hundred percent sure, but it's something that
teams are obviously very aware of going forward.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Okay, he's part of ownership. He doesn't even know about
the second apron. First of all, it appears as if
he doesn't know what it is. Why would you bring
up joker in any scenario? Could you imagine if the
Kansas City Chiefs ownership got in front of the media
and said, you know, we're all about transparency. I mean,
(10:56):
you know, get a couple injuries here, I have to
trade number fifteen. The sports world would explode today if
the Chiefs did that. Is this an accident by Josh Kronkey.
I don't know how well versed he is in getting
in front of the media. I always love when it's
always total transparency. But then if you ask certain questions.
(11:19):
There's not going to be total transparency, So don't tell
me you're all about transparency here. When's the last time
you thought about trading Joker? Has Joker asked to be traded?
When's the last time you received a call about joking? Like,
if we're doing total transparency, great, I'm all for it.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
But to me, and I've listened to it now, I.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Think four or five times, I'm trying to be fair
to the Nuggets with this. But then the more I
think about this, I think this was this was purposeful.
It felt like, hey, we'd hate to do this, We
don't even want to think about this, but he wants
to have depth. He's got to help us out here. Well,
(12:07):
we need a little help too. It's got to be
given to He even says, hey, we don't even know
if he's going to accept our offer. Right there, that
told me everything. We're not going to give you the max,
or we want to give you a four year deal
instead of a three year deal. The four year deal
gives us more flexibility. So now you put the onus
(12:29):
on Joker. Hey, yeah, we signed you know, that stupid
deal with Michael Porter Junior, and we don't know if
Jamal Murray is going to be healthy enough to last
a couple of years, but hey, you want depth, got
to help us out a little bit here. I can't
imagine another owner doing this. I just can't that you
(12:51):
would say, I mean the Milwaukee Bucks ownership does.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
They didn't go. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Probably might have to trade him. It's they don't want
to trade him. He might want to leave Milwaukee. I
was just stunned. But it felt like there was more
to this, felt like there was an agenda him. Felt
like there was a message that was going to be sent,
and that is we're going to try, but we're going
(13:21):
to need help from Joker here as well. And I
started to think about this, when you're looking at this
second apron, that I think we should start actually selling
safe second aprons like DP show second aprons on here,
maybe with Treger. So you look at the Celtics and
what they're doing. They were twenty two million above the
(13:44):
second apron. But teams can only spend two years in
a five year period above a certain line and then
future first round picks start dropping to number thirty overall.
So that's why the Celtics are having this sale right now.
They used one second Apron season this year, and they're
(14:07):
not going to waste another not having Jason Tatum, so
they had to get rid of money. This is what's
happening with this second Apron. You got a five year window.
You want to spend over it. Okay, after that, it's
going to cost you your draft picks. They'll drop down
to number thirty. I know it's complicated, but you know,
I think what they're trying to do is maybe collude
(14:30):
to let's keep these salaries under a certain umbrella. Let's
not get crazy with all of this. Look at the Celtics,
I mean those two contracts with Brown and Tatum, I mean,
got a half a billion dollars there. Tatum probably won't
play next year they made Look at trade Jalen Brown,
like all these things.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
That you go, now, they can't do that.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Just the fact that the Nuggets would even hint at that,
and none of these reporters go, hey, if things go bad,
are you gonna trade Joker? It wasn't one of those,
but boy, if he came on this show and said,
you know, kind of a doomsday situation, we might consider
trading fifteen. Oh man, here we go hold on, I
(15:17):
got some questions for you.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
Yeah, Marvin, if you're another NBA team, do you just
call just a sure put out a feeler.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I mean, look at what the Lakers pulled off with Luca.
You never know, you'd never know, like Boston. If I'm
the Brooklyn Nets, you are a nondescript franchise, you got
five first round picks, I would be calling the Celtics
and saying, what about?
Speaker 3 (15:49):
What about?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
If the Celtics are kind of in a rebuild slash reload,
then I would try to I'd try it a knock
on the door at least, And I think some teams
have probably called the Celtics amount.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Jalen Brown.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Shams has mentioned that teams are kind of, you know,
kicking this around. I don't know, some interesting times with
the NBA. You know, does the honest get traded? Maybe
not this year. You start to look at the injuries.
You know, Durant didn't have a lot of suitors, ends
(16:31):
up going to Houston. Phoenix is a mess. Yeah, so
you start to look at all of this seventy six ers,
you know, that's talk about a mess. You know, the Pacers,
what do you do without Tyrese Halibert. There's a lot
going on here, and I think that's the interesting part
leading into the draft. It might not be the draft,
but there are a lot of storylines here and I
(16:53):
did not think we'd be talking about the Nuggets and
Joker and any remote possibility. That's where you go to
a press conference and you go, we would never ever
trade him.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Never.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Now that doesn't mean ownership doesn't walk back sometimes what
they say, but that's where you say, hey, we have
the best player in the sport. We got to build
around him better, We have to do a better job.
That felt like it's, hey, we might be screwing up
a little bit here, but you have to help us
(17:25):
if you want some depth. That's what I read into that,
until other otherwise you know, noted. That's what I'm going
to take away from that. It felt like nobody provoked
prompted you and you were telling about transparency, which is nice,
but that felt like there was a little more attached
to it. Then oh a slip of that. Ah, you
(17:47):
guys are running with that. Stop you conspiracy theorist? You
all right just getting started.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I like when you're fired up.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Well, it's an interesting comment because you don't want to
call him unaware, but if it's on purpose, then it's
even scarier.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
You go into those press conferences, you know what you're
going to be talking about.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
You.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
You can't be surprised, right, you can't be surprised. I
don't think there was any any thought with any member
of the media going, man, wait till you hear this question.
Wait till I asked him about the joker, And all
of a sudden I went wait and he said to Marvin,
(18:33):
give me the context of that. He said, there wasn't.
I mean, it was just that he brought it up unprovoked.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
I go.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Like to thank the Nuggets though, for giving me a
little content today. How about we take a break, settle
on a poll, question, phone calls, all of that just
getting started.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Ready to go, Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Hi, this is Jay.
Speaker 8 (19:06):
I'm the producer of the Pauli and Toni Fusco Show.
Usually in these promos they ask you to listen to
the show. I'm here to ask you please don't listen
to the show. The hosts are two absolute morons who
have the dumbest takes on sports imaginable. Don't listen to
the show so it can get Camps.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
What the hell are you doing in our studio?
Speaker 9 (19:22):
Get him?
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Ignore that fool.
Speaker 10 (19:27):
Listen to the Pauline Tony Fusco show on the iHeartRadio
app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
He's still moving.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
If Luca can be traded at that age, with that resume,
anybody can be traded. It's one of those situations where
you go that could never happen in the NBA in
today's climate.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
I feel like anybody could be traded. Now.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
It takes a lot more work with salary caps, all
of that, you know, draft picks or players and players
swaps or three team deals and all of that. But
I feel like anybody can be traded. And even though
Joker is the best player in the sport, you know,
the Kronkys are bottom line. I mean, ownership is bottom
line for the most part. And you might look at
(20:11):
this and say, age wise, can this team win another title?
And I said last year, if this is their approach,
they will not win another title. He might win an
MVP and he had his best season this past year
and probably would be you know, one of them will
be one of the favorites. But he's going to look
(20:31):
around and go, what are we doing, just like Giannis
is doing. It's not Giannis's fault what the Bucks did
or didn't do. I mean they tried. They brought in Dame.
I think we waited for Chris Middleton to be something.
You know, Rooks Lopez is my age, like what are
you doing? And these guys are looking around going, hey,
I'm winning MVPs or I wont a title.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
I'd like to do it again.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
And I can't blame them, but it's management who put
these guys in these positions to say, is this where
I want to stay?
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Plain and simple? And that's what happened with Denver.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Denver won a title because their bench helped them win
a title. Yes, they had the best player in the sport.
Jamal Murray will give you those games where you get
it goes for thirty five forty.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Aaron Gordon can be really good.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
But you know some of those other contracts, now it's
going to be I think they're playing. They're putting the blame,
not blame. They're putting pressure on Joker. Help us, help us,
help ourselves.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yes, Bone, Joker turns thirty one in a few months.
Shaquille O'Neal was traded from the Lakers at age thirty one.
Kevin Garnett was traded from Minnesota the Boston at age
thirty one.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
It can happen.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Those are peak players.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yes, yeah, all right, let's see poll question Seaton, whatever
we get to go with to the least first hour
NBA team you would most not want to play for
right now, or least want to play for, least want
to play for. Alrighty, you would most not want to
play for. All right, Todd, give me the NBA team
(22:15):
you would least not want to play for.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
I gotta go Wizards.
Speaker 11 (22:18):
No, not, least not want to play for, most not
want to play most or least want to play for.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Okay, wear that up. Okay, you gotta get our double
negatives right, Okay to make a positive correct? Okay? Marvin
the Brooklyn Nets, Paul.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
H.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Charlotte, you feel irrelevant.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I'd say, Brooklyn, you're kind of in the media capital
of the world, but you're so far away from the
media capital of the world. You know, that's where you live,
right by the water. You don't live on the water.
You're like three blocks in and you have an obstructed view.
But man, we're three blocks from the beach. Can you
(23:06):
see the water? No, that's Brooklyn Nets, Yes, marm.
Speaker 7 (23:10):
And the Nets don't have a fan base.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
They do not, they do not.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Yes, the Nets feel drastically less relevant than the Knicks,
but the Clippers don't feel drastically less relevant than a Lakers.
I know it's a Lakers town and will always be,
but the Clippers have moments and have a solid fan base.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, but the Knicks are so big, yeah, you know,
just like the Lakers are so you know, unless you're
winning a chance. The Knicks haven't won anything in fifty years.
I mean, Brooklyn at least tried to get there, thought
they were going to get there. The Clippers at least
made a pretty good effort. You know, they tried. But
you know, the Lakers, that's omnipresent. You know, wherever you go,
(23:52):
you're not seeing Clipper jerseys. You're not seeing Brooklyn Net jerseys.
And unless the hipsters are doing it just to be hip,
the hipsters, Yeah, the hipsters, you're wearing a Yes, yeah,
is that a Cam Johnson Jersey you're weirding.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
No, it is weird.
Speaker 11 (24:09):
How just moving a team like this far on the map. Yeah,
completely destroys your entire fan base.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
It felt like they were more of a team when
they were in New Jersey.
Speaker 11 (24:20):
Yes, yes, the New Jersey Nets are a thing. Yeah,
you could get behind the Brooklyn that's who cares.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
And it wasn't like the New York Jets or Giants
who play in Jersey. This was a Jersey team playing
in Jersey. Yeah, they're are team.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
And then all of a sudden they're Brooklyn's team. Yes,
and everyone that lives in Brooklyn is a Knicks fan.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
You can't.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
And they just moved it, what maybe ten years ago,
So you're not gonna ask a thirty year old, Hey,
the Brooklyn Nets are here, Joe Johnson, come on, Yeah,
he's here.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, yeah, all right, So that's our pole question of
who would you.
Speaker 11 (24:56):
Yeah, we have we have some other teams on there
that we probably didn't get to. I don't even remember
who we sat at this point, but the seventy six ers.
I really don't have much interest in playing. I like
Philadelphia as a City, But I don't want to play
for them. I mean that historically is a great franchise.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
But but I like how you know, people, Hey, I
can solve the Sixers problems. You know, we're gonna trade
Paul Georgian. We'll trade Joe l Embiid.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Who wants those guys?
Speaker 12 (25:22):
I get.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I love how we look at a trade from one angle. Yeah, Hey,
I could fix the Sixers, you know, I do. I
get rid of MBI, and I get rid of you know.
I'd be like, trade them, get four first.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, and and.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Maybe you get a franchise player too. I'll hang up
and listen, like, what are we doing here? I would
trade mb I wouldn't have resigned Embiide. I got guy
has a history of injury problems. Is he great? Yes,
when he's healthy. Kawhi he's great when he's healthy. Paul George,
(25:56):
he's great when he's healthy. I don't want that attached
to the guy. And I'm going to give three hundred
million dollars.
Speaker 11 (26:01):
And they were so close, though, they were, they were
so close.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
They were Kyrie or Kawhi from the corner.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Yes, Joelle Embiid played nineteen games last year. He is
under contract for the next four years at an average
of sixty two million dollars per year.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Dang Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards for the Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Give me the player, got draft coming up tonight?
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Give me the player that you would have bet your
pinky that they would have been a star. You would
have bet your pinky that they would have been great
Hall of famerly, sir, multi All Star? All right, little
round ball rock here, Johnny Tesh, thank you, John Uh.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Marvin. I'm going to go to you.
Speaker 7 (27:04):
One see for me.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Michael Beasley, there's still a chance that he could be
a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
I relax, Paul. You got somebody that you would have
bet a pinky.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
I absolutely would have actually bet the pinky. Back in
nineteen ninety four, Glenn Big Dog Robinson out of Purdue
played two years in college. His second year in college,
he averaged thirty one and eleven at small forward, and
he shot forty percent from three. I had no doubts
he was going to take over the NBA. He made
two All Star Games. He had a nice career, not
(27:37):
even close.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Law Todd, you got one.
Speaker 10 (27:40):
Although he looked a lot older than he was from
the beginning, Greg Odin, I got caught up in thinking
that he was going to be a dominant He got picked,
I guess before Durant. I thought he was going to
be something more special.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Had some injuries there, seet and you got one.
Speaker 11 (27:53):
Yeah, I guess he's kind of recent, well at least
a recent ish. But man, I thought Jeremy Lamb was
going to.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Be a thing. That's randow.
Speaker 11 (28:04):
I really thought Jeremy Lamb. I was like, dang man,
that kid is going to be a thing, and he had.
He played for a long time, never did anything, but
he played for a while.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
I thought Laytoner was going to be a great player.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
I just thought, somebody that good is going to understand
how to play in the NBA, and what would be different.
You know, he went against the best players. He dominated
Shack and like he was. He was great against Alonzo Mourning.
So I just thought, Okay, now he went to a
bad team. He went to Minnesota, and that certainly had
(28:42):
an effect on him. He did play a long time,
he just and he went to an All Star Game
or two maybe, But I thought, well, that's just a
natural transition. You're going to be All Star a couple
of times over in the NBA. All right, we'll get
phone calls coming up. Eight seven seven three DP show Yes.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
Martin, Sorry, Honorable mentioned for me. Julia okafor a duke,
I thought he was gonna be the better version of
Zach Randolph m Okay.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
I didn't buy into Harold Minor. Baby Jordan. Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
I remember having discussions at Sports Center and people got
caught up in Harold Minor at USC and he was
a great leaper and they thought he was going to
be Baby Jordan. I said, you know, here's a problem.
He can't shoot. Other than that. Pearl Washington's another player
where I thought, God, as you put him on an
(29:39):
NBA floor, he's going to be going all over You're
gonna be crazy.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
And that didn't work out either.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
But yeah, Baby Jordan, he I think the similarities were
that he wore number twenty three when he was in college.
I think that that's where the similarities ended.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Yes, since we're doing honorable mention, I will go Larry
Johnson out of UNLV. He looked like a thirty year
old at age twenty. He won Rookie of the Year
with Charlotte. Yeah, he made a second team All NBA
in his second year.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Yeah. Back problems though plowed him down. Yeah, back problems. Uh.
Stacy Agman is exactly who I was going to say,
Stacey Hogman. I thought Stacey Augman was going to be
the guy. I thought he was going to be Scotty Pippen.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Before Scottie Pippen, because he just was one of those
glue guys play defense, transition, you know, great in transition.
Anybody else that comes to mind, yes, Paul.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
I would say John Wall coming out of college and
even in his first few years, I'm like, yeah, he's
He's the real deal. There's there's no reason for him
not to dominate the position for twelve years and it cooled.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
I didn't think Adam Morrison was going to be good
because I didn't think he did anything. I mean, he scored,
but I mean, you you gotta the margin to get
your shot off in the NBA as opposed to college.
It's kind of like that margin of a quarterback in college,
and your guys are wide open to the NFL, we
(31:13):
have to throw them open. And Adam Morrison wasn't particularly big, strong,
quick fast. I just think he scored, but there are
a lot of guys who can score in college.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, pulling. I have one more honorable mention. We could
do this all day, man.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Stevie Francis out of Maryland. He felt like had everything
Combo guard. He was Rookie of the Year for Houston
in nineteen ninety nine, made three All Star Games twenty four,
twenty five, twenty six, and then cooled.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Yeah Stevie franchise. Oh yes, marm.
Speaker 7 (31:47):
One more guy, the pridate Chicago Jabbari Parker out of Duke.
I thought he had the perfect NBA game. Yeah, could
put it on the floor, could shoot it good size, Yeah,
Stevie franchise.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
He played for the Rockets, the Magic, the Knicks, the Rockets,
and then he went to Beijing.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Yes, Martin.
Speaker 7 (32:06):
He was one of the few guys that refused to
go to the team that drafted him. Also the Grizzlies.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
I didn't think Big Country Bryan Reeves was going to
be great. He was fun though, he was great haircut.
You know, he broke a backboard. It's like, okay, okay,
like I need a little more than that. Although I
thought he was a really skilled big man it just
(32:35):
you started. You know, back then you had really skilled,
great big men like nowadays. If he could shoot the three,
he'd be able to play. You don't have to be
a you know, a great big man, the traditional big man.
All right, we'll get some more phone calls here coming up,
and we settle on our poll question as well. Talk
NBA Draft Jay billis a little bit later on. We're
(32:56):
back after this.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Damn
I'm Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio. Wapp Oh
my god.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
The play of the.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Day, Twitter, LIPSYE got it play.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
This is the play of the day. Check this out.
Speaker 8 (33:18):
It's all right, I'll to white center field, pretty deep fails.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Pack talk to all he might be a home run.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Lars racing on his way to third. The game is
tied at least. Pat Moore, how's a truck call of dickies?
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Won it?
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Say that to the Red Sox a home on.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
That's courtesy of fan Duel Sports Network West Television. Christian
Moore eighth the overall pick of the twenty twenty four draft.
You know I sit corrected here and I had a
baseball person text me to say, Hey, you were talking
about these players who play in college and then they
disappear and go to the minor leagues. You got guys
Christian Moore eighth overall pick twenty twenty four draft, Chase Byrne,
(34:00):
second overall pick twenty twenty four draft. He struck out
the first five batters he faced against the Yankees. So
you are finding some of these players who are making
that jump right from college to I'm surprised that there
aren't more college players who make the jump. Feels like,
if you're drafted out of high school, you might spend two, three,
(34:21):
four years in the minor leagues, but the you know,
with the NBA, they'd love for you to go to
a developmental league. Some of these guys eighteen nineteen years
of age, you don't want to put them on a
roster making that kind of money, traveling all over the
world and babysitting them. You know, baseball, you get the
college World Series. It feels like if you can, you know,
(34:44):
survive the ding ping of those bats, you can go
right into the major leagues there.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
But that is your play of the day.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Play of the Day brought to you by Maguire's new
hybrid ceramic wash and wax boost Protection extreme water beating technology.
The next time you want aresh your car truck, Maguires
reflect your passion. Joe and Orlando, Hi Joe, Good morning fellows.
Speaker 9 (35:10):
Dan have a quick question for you, seeing that I
think all roles are leading, Jalen Brown is leaving. However,
both teams that I'm going to give you have a
list full of assets, and just as a general manager,
which team would you pick? Would it be Houston and
their options of picks, including this year's I think it's
(35:31):
twenty second, or would you allow this trade to the
Spurs to happen, ensuring you to get that number two
pick and you're able to build a young roster to
kind of inmulate what OKC did to SGA as far
as keeping Tatum healthy and just retooling.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Well, if I'm Boston, I don't want to be trading
Jalen Brown and unless I look at this and say,
all right, this is the direction we're taking. But I mean,
what's Houston giving up? You didn't want to give up
anything for Kevin Durant. You're gonna give up a lot
for Jalen Brown. You're gonna give up Thompson, You're gonna
give up you know, a couple of your young stars.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
And I wouldn't do that.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Jalen Brown wonderful player, and maybe maybe Brooklyn would be
the team that I would at least have a conversation.
And they talked about that a few years ago. Uh
Im a Udoka maybe was trying to bring in Jalen Brown.
Maybe that possibility, but san Antonio like, I don't I
(36:36):
don't want to break it up unless I go, Okay,
I can get Jalen Brown. I'm going to give up
Daron Fox, and I'm going to give up the what
second pick in the draft and something else? Okay, I
mean i'd at least look at that. But I don't
(36:57):
know if Boston's going to give him up because you
don't know what is going to happen with Tatum and
we can sit here and go, yeah, he'll be back
in eight months, Like you don't know. Sometimes surgeries don't
work and maybe you're going to be less of who
you were. I mean, look at Durant. I mean, Durant
was a slasher and then all of a sudden, you know,
(37:18):
he had surgeries, Amari Stademar is going to be a
Hall of Famer Larry Johnson and then all of a
sudden injuries.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
So I think you got to be careful with that.
Would I want Jalen Brown? Yes?
Speaker 2 (37:32):
But what am I giving up? Brooklyn's got five first
round draft picks. Let me see Chris and Maryland. Hi, Chris,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
What's going on? Guys? Hey?
Speaker 13 (37:44):
I tried to call on yesterday but I couldn't. I'm
calling in because I have a pile of the space
that if Fritzy is interested. Oh, you were all talking
about football yesterday.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (37:53):
I am one hundred percent certain the Charters are going
to finish higher than the Broncos in the AFC West.
So if they do, my bet is Fritchy takes a
part of the face. If they don't, my wife and
my kid can both tie me to the face and
I will send in the video.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Ton.
Speaker 10 (38:12):
I feel compelled, plus my confidence in my team to
take that bet because I think it's entertaining for the show,
and I think Denver can do at least a little
better than the Charger.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
So let's do it. Oh, so you're you're leaning towards
content here.
Speaker 10 (38:23):
I'm leaning towards content and my belief that the Broncos
should be at least a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Wait, wait, you told me they could win the West.
You could win the West.
Speaker 10 (38:30):
I think it's time for the Chiefs to slide a
little bit. And if anyone else is going to win
the West, I'd like Denver over the Chargers to win
the West.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
Okay, let's do this. Let's do this pipe all right?
Two for one. He's gonna gehit with two if I work.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
All right, all right, we got a bet there. All right,
Thank you, Chris Todd. Tom leaning in on content.
Speaker 11 (38:46):
Believe it will be entertaining for the show as well as.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
For the Broncos. Jim and Reno. Hi, Jim, what's on
your mind?
Speaker 9 (38:54):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (38:54):
Good morning, Dan. Hey, I've gotta I gotta this day
in Major League Baseball history for you. I'm concerning a
future Hall of Famer that made his debut on this
day in nineteen fifty three. I just wanted to throw
some career stats at you and see if you can
name them. All right, all right, this guy came right
out to high school.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Ol Kaylin major League.
Speaker 14 (39:17):
Thank you very much, Dad.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
You got it all right, Thank you, Jim.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Let him breathe a little of it.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
I guess I don't know content like Fritzy does. John
and Florida. Hi John, it's on your mind.
Speaker 12 (39:32):
IDP Dan, that's first time, long time, five eleven, one seventy,
Thank you, thank you. Hey just wanted to reach out.
It is my thirty second birthday today. I don't need
a song. I don't need a shout out anything like that.
Trying to benefit the nation here at at any point
in today's show, could we get Gary Miller's soccer break
(39:53):
down in three to me what he know?
Speaker 3 (39:56):
You know what, maybe maybe we can get that.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
You let you Ge and Luca Paleuka. How about a
little happy birthday to John though, Happy birthday John Duca Palauka. Okay,
we'll see if we can locate that. Maybe we'll play
that a little later on. We haven't played that in
(40:19):
a while.
