Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Uh, hope you had a great weekend. Gang's all here,
band back together. It's a Monday best and worst of
the weekend. What you saw that you liked you didn't like?
You can be part of the program. Dot us up.
Operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Good morning.
If you're watching on Peacock, Thank you downloading the app
to watch the program. And we say good morning to

(00:26):
our radio affiliates around the country. iHeartRadio. Fox Sports Radio.
Stat of the Day is always brought to you by
Panini America. The official trading cards of the DP Show
First Hour brought to you by tire rack dot Com.
For over four decades now, tire rack has been helping
you find the right tires for how and what and
where you drive, ship fast and free and back by

(00:47):
a free road hazard protection, convenient installation options. Tire rack
dot Com the way tire buying should be. Play the day,
poll question stat of the Day. All of that forthcoming.
We'll talk to the four NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski
a little bit later on, will recap the Baseball Hall
of Fame as well, and the Dion Sanders health press

(01:09):
conference coming up later on this morning, Age seven, seven
to three. DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter
handle at DP show. Let me start with Dion, because
we did reach out to Colorado see if we could
have Dion on and they said, you know, not at
this time. Now it feels like it sounds like it's

(01:31):
been described as being a health update press conference for
Dion Sanders. And if you go back to twenty twenty one,
he had two toes amputated, he had surgery for blood
clots on his left leg in twenty twenty three. He
got a little testy at the Big twelve media day
earlier this month when asked about his health issue. He

(01:52):
downplayed that. He had comments DESPN where he downplayed the
health concerns. But he has sent out mixed messages, whether
it's through one of his sons or a former player
a Sante Samuel. And it feels like this is a
very very important press conference for Dion now, important because

(02:12):
maybe he can continue to be the head coach at Colorado.
But there is also the possibility there has been speculation,
and that's why I'm going to be very careful when
I say this that maybe he's not able to coach again,
or maybe he would have to leave the sidelines and
maybe coach in the press box once again, all of
this speculation. Dion has down played his health issues, but

(02:35):
there have been other people in his inner circle who
have spoken about this. I'll go back to a Super
Bowl I think that was in Minnesota, in Minneapolis, and
Dion took off his shoes and he took off his
socks and he showed us his toes. He had turf toe.
His toes were mangled up. Now I don't know. Once again,

(02:59):
they were. He had a couple of toes amputated and
has blood clots as well. Just start there. The blood clots,
that's serious. You know, We've seen that with athletes recently.
We've seen that with athletes. Victor renbin Yama with blood
clots shut him down. So I don't know if this
is going to impact Dion, impact him in a way

(03:20):
that he wouldn't be able to coach or impact how
he coaches. But that's probably going to be about three
hours from now, so the show will be over when
Dion holds this press conference, and from what I'm told,
he will be holding a press conference with his medical team.
This isn't a football press conference from the standpoint of
let's talk about the Buffalos in the upcoming season. This

(03:42):
is about Dion Sanders, so we can only hope that
it's positive news. There have been two websites that have
already jumped to the conclusion that Dion will retire once again.
I'm going to just tell you about the speculation here
and there is no So it doesn't feel like there's
any real hard facts that would lead me to believe

(04:04):
one way or another what's going to happen with Dion.
So keep an eye on that. Hope for the best
for Dion as well. NFL camp not much going on.
I did love that ESPN was at the commander's camp,
and you want to talk about a whole different attitude
of feeling. When Daniel Snyder was there, it just felt

(04:26):
like it was always a cloud over that franchise. You know,
he's charging you to go to watch them practice.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
This just feels different. Now.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
They got Terry McLaurin back in camp, which is important,
but it's a hold in. He still hasn't gotten his
contract settled yet. But with Jayden Daniels, there's nothing like
a franchise that has a quarterback where the fan base
goes yes, and that's what you have with the Commanders.
And once again, trying to drive anything out of these

(04:56):
training camps. I'm looking for the feel of it. I
want on everybody in camp. I want to make sure
everybody gets through camp and preseason without injuries.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
And you want to know what is the vibe there?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Like I'm still trying to figure out the vibe with
the Steelers because of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
But you are all in TJ.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Watt, is in DK Metcalf, Like you've made some moves
there and now you bring in Aaron Rodgers. Okay, but
I still don't know what that vibe is because all
of a sudden you have the Aaron Rodgers talking about
Terry Bradshaw with what Terry Bradshaw said about Aaron Rodgers.
And then once again it's always these side stories that
you're trying to avoid. You just want to go straight ahead,

(05:40):
right down Main Street. You're not going to take the
scenic route here. Just get through training camp. But the Commanders, man,
you gotta feel good about that. Uh got your coach
shown up, he got his hat on backwards going on ESPN.
The crowd's going crazy. Jayden Daniels comes over, He's saying
hi to the kids, like it was, Hey, here's a

(06:03):
PR day for the Washington Commanders. But it was fun
to see. It was great to see. All Right, see,
what's pole question we have? At least starting out first hour, we're.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Gonna start off with this one NFL training camp with
the most hope hope.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Okay, we might be starting the hopometer today. Okay, hope.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
But it feels like there's varying degrees of hope because
if I start with the Panthers, what is the hope there?
If I start with the Chargers, what's the hope there? Playoffs?
AFC title games?

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Super Bowl question mark? What is the hope the Rams?

Speaker 2 (06:53):
The hope is Matthew Stafford can stay healthy, because if
he does, I think that they're going to be the
in the playoffs and a legitimate threat. We saw what
they nearly pulled off with the Eagles. What is the hope.
The hope with the Eagles is let's just get through camp,
let's stay healthy. The Bengals, the hope is that you
get Trey Hendricks in it. So varying degrees of hope

(07:17):
for an individual or hope for the team. Uh, you
know the Cowboys. I guess the hope would be that
you clean up the Micah Parsons mess that you have
that continues. Are you looking at Team Seaton, you know,
with the hope of their fan base of how they're
going to do.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Well?

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Why why don't we start with you started talking about
the Commanders earlier? This okay, right, a lot of hope
right there through the roof out of it.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yes, yes, yes?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
How about the Patriots? Yeah you got Yeah, Mike Rabel,
great coach, you got your quarterback. Feels like there's a
little momentum. Although don't you fall victim to the hype
videos and shows that they put out with the Patriots?

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Oh me, Yeah, I'm a sucker for any hype video. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
The Patriots have this thing out right now called like
uh forged in Foxborough? I think it is, And it
is nothing but a thirty minute hype video.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
And you're like, Mike Rabel might be the best coach ever.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yeah, every random dude they got, like, look and now
Ali Shukatelly came in.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
He's got a.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Guy as not not an actual person, but I know
what you're saying. It feels like if they they show
anybody in slow motion that they automatically become great. When
you're showing these videos and you're seeing and it just
feels like, you know, the announcer's voice goes down a
little bit lower than that. The Silver and Black Clad

(08:49):
Masters of Intimidition.

Speaker 7 (08:51):
Yes, Marvin, Yeah, I don't care how say your team is.
But if you see a highlight package right before they
come out on the field, even though they're owing fourteen
and it's I.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Can't feel it calm in.

Speaker 8 (09:05):
Oh Lord.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Speaking of well the Raiders, Pete Carroll, the head coach,
talking about his goals for his team.

Speaker 9 (09:14):
We have extremely high expectations. You know, I don't even
know any other way to think. And I don't care
what year it is or what team it is, It
doesn't matter to me. I mean, this is either going
forward or you're not. And that's who going forward. And
how whoever that means at the end of it, we'll
find out. But in the meantime, there is no no
standard that we can set high enough that we can't

(09:35):
challenge for and then so we're going for it, like
I said, and these guys are on board.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
They get it Okay, they're going for it, okay, like
their hopeworthy h I mean, you're in a really tough division,
but yeah, there's hope. But that's the beauty of the
NFL because all it takes is, hey, we could be
this year's commanders. Well you can be if you have
Jayden Daniels, then maybe you could be this year's command

(10:00):
And can you win all of these one score games?
Can you win in the last two minutes? Which is
what the Commander's pulled off. But I love the feeling
of hope with some of these teams, like the Atlanta
Falcons hope.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
But I just.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Don't know, like sometimes you have to go, Okay, I
got questions here and I got to hope here. So
what where's where's it going? Does it level off there
that the questions and the hope they're going to match
each other and we're going to be okay, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (10:32):
And the hope. The hope meter goes by how your
division is. Yeah, So if you're in the NFC sold
your life nine games, we can do this.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Also Arthur Blank, he is the owner of the Atlanta Falcons,
talking about how he thinks we're going to eventually get
to every team is going to play a game outside
the United States, which I'm not big on exporting everything
that we have. I don't like when baseball opens up
in Japan opening Day. But I do think it's fair

(11:06):
if you're going to if you have to make it
fair for everybody a level playing field that hey, you're
going to be playing one or two games outside the
United States, that team doesn't have to play any I
think they're trying to grow the game. I think that's
why they're all in on flag football, because that can
be played around the world. They're trying to grow the game.
And I said this, and I got this on good

(11:27):
authority from somebody with the NFL. They're going to get
to the eighteenth game. The eighteenth game is basically going
to be a complete TV package, a separate TV package
of you have the international games, and that's how they're
going to sell this. You're going to get to an
eighteenth game. It may not happen, you know, over the
next two years, but we'll get to eighteen games. Every

(11:50):
team will have a home base outside the United States.
You know, Pittsburgh's going to be in Dublin. You're you
have team, you know Germany for the Chiefs. You're going
to have Brazil with the Eagles, maybe Mexico City. Everybody's
going to have one of these places, the Jags in London.
That's how they want to grow the game, export it

(12:12):
and then those cities, those countries will embrace that team
that will be their team. So it's not just Jacksonville's
playing in London, but also you have owners who have
soccer franchises around the world and they're probably saying, hey,
I can get my NFL team into my soccer stadium

(12:32):
and get a couple of bites of the apple here.
So this is what's going on. The question is when
does it happen. It's not if, but when and when
it does, they're going to make even more money because
they'll sell this as a separate TV package.

Speaker 10 (12:48):
Yes, Pauline, one other team I would like to throw
on the Hepemeter. How about the Denver Broncos. You know
they finally clean up their quarterback situation. Bo Nix, I
know you got to get past the Chiefs, but they
haven't had hope in a couple of years.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
It felt like they overachieved last year.

Speaker 10 (13:08):
Oh, you're a hope killer. Don't be a hope killer.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah, I didn't know what you're saying. I'm going hope
solo here.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yes that I'm not all in with Denver in Washington,
even though they got their quarterbacks and I like their
coaches and the vibe is really good. It's just sometimes
you look at a team and you go, how did
they get to that many wins?

Speaker 3 (13:33):
And it's weird.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
I felt like the Broncos got to that win total,
maybe a little more legitimately than Washington did, but Washington
came up big when they needed to. It's just that's
not sustainable. And I hate bringing this up, but I
do bring up the fact that they're winning these really
close games in the final minute or so. It's really

(13:54):
hard to continue to do that unless you're the Kansas
City Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yes, Todd.

Speaker 11 (13:59):
Is it a soft more slump thing, or is it
that you get figured out after the first year and
now that there's video on these guys and adjustments are
made and all of a sudden, they're not this shocking
and surprise to see what they're going to do her.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Two Yes, both of those, thank you. It's like the Texans.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
It just didn't feel like they were going to be
better this past year with the previous year and c. J.
Stroud was wonderful, But man, it's tough that second year
after you surprise people. It's like when a pitcher goes
through the lineup one time and all of a sudden
he's like, man, I'm dominating. Then all of a sudden

(14:33):
you go through the second time in the lineup and
you don't make it all the way through. They get
a book on you. I mean you have to bo
Nix will have tells, tendencies you know now to be different.
The game plan will be different, and I think that's
where you want to see this second year. For a

(14:53):
lot of these teams are quarterbacks. That's what you know,
Drake may do you take the next step up? Do
defenses figure you out a little bit more? It's a
chess game. It's a constant chess game.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
All right.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Let me take a break. We got phone calls coming up,
Best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that
you liked, you didn't like a lot of positive responses
to Happy Gilmore too, so thank you. No spoilers here.
I hope you enjoyed the movie. Didn't hear from a
lot of people enjoyed the mustache and a couple of
sneaky scenes in there. I got a little more movie

(15:26):
time than I thought I was going to, and I
did send a note to Sandman. I said thank you,
you know, because a lot of that stuff just ends
up in the editing room, and you know, I hate
to see maybe an Oscar worthy performance fall to the wayside.
But I mean that'll be up to the Academy once again.
That'd be weird though, if I win an Academy Award,

(15:48):
but I can't win a Sports Emmy.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Yes, yes see.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Is there a minimum number of minutes on screen an
actor has to have in order to be considered for
an Oscar?

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Hmmm, I think let's do a little research on that.
But I will say a lot of people got one cameo.
I didn't have one cameo, Like I had a role
in this movie. Occurring cameo. Yeah, is that a new.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
No, it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Ever, it wasn't a recurring cameo because to me, it
was a role, like you know, Chris Berman and Stephen A.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Smith. It felt like that was a cameo. Mine was
a role. You were playing a part. I was, Yeah,
I was not playing myself.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
They were playing themselves once again, no spoilers, yes, Paul.

Speaker 10 (16:30):
For example, Anthony Hopkins, the great actor in Silence of
the Lambs only sixteen minutes of screen time, won Best
Supporting Actor.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
H Well, I'm not on sixteen minutes, probably on maybe
three four minutes.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
A strong for minutes, Thank you, strong.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Thank you, thank you, thank you. It was a stretch
for me in my role. But then hashtag actor.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Take a break.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
We'll talk to Gronk next hour, we'll get to your
phone calls coming out, and we'll settle on a poll question.
All of that right after this Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 12 (17:15):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 13 (17:24):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah, you blubber, list lame and me.

Speaker 12 (17:38):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 13 (17:42):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 12 (17:56):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over and also uncensored, by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 13 (18:06):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen over Promised with
Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
All right, we got to come up with the poll question.
We'll get to phone calls coming up best and worst
of the weekend. How many of the Danauts have seen
Happy Gilmore too, Marvin and Seaton, well, Paulie and Fritzie,
what are you waiting for him in the movie?

Speaker 6 (18:36):
I just haven't seen it yet. I'm sure i'll watch
it sometime during the week.

Speaker 11 (18:38):
I got caught up in Billy Joel, which I watched
in different parts because it was like two and a
half hours, so I step up.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
You couldn't squeeze in a couple hours to watch Me
and Happy Gilmore.

Speaker 11 (18:48):
No that I watched very little TV the entire weekend,
so I can't say I was watching all these other
shows and movies instead.

Speaker 6 (18:53):
But I do plan to watch it. I haven't seen anything.

Speaker 10 (18:55):
Paul Laziness, Okay, simplants Marvin, what did you think?

Speaker 14 (19:02):
I loved it. I thought it was very good.

Speaker 7 (19:05):
Okay, there's a couple of really laugh out loud moments,
and I thought maybe I've taken Seaton's answer off off Mike.
But it paid homage to the first uh, to the
first Happy Gilmore, and it did what it's supposed to do.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Okay, Seaton. Yeah, I loved it. I thought it was great.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
I think that it didn't try to compete with the original,
which was a good idea. It was very much like
a companion piece to the first one, and I thought
it was hilarious.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
I really really really enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, I was nervous because it just like I knew
too much about what was going on with the movie
and who was in it and the storylines and all
of this, and I just thought, God, I just hope
that it's a good movie. I just hope people enjoy it.
And I, you know, even when I was talking to Sandler,
like I just didn't want us to try too hard,

(20:00):
that just let it happen. And you know, the script
that he came up with and the appearances, the cameos.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
I thought it worked. I thought it was entertaining.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Now, granted I'm biased because he's my friend and I'm
in the movie, but judging from the reaction of people
that I know, even that I don't know, it's been
well received. Also the fact that it's free and it's
on Netflix that helps too, so you're not going to
the theater and spending money.

Speaker 10 (20:28):
Yes, Paul, I did see some clips from the making
of the movie this weekend, and it's interesting that the
golfers of today, the star golfers like Brooks, Koepka or
whoever they grew up on this movie. This was the
first golf movie of their lifetime. They are too young
for Caddyshack. So happy Gilmore and to be invited in
this movie was like they lobbied to be in the movie.
They didn't have to be coerced.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Oh yeah, they asked. I said this last week. Nick
Foudo reached out and he said, hey, can you help
me get a cameo? Jack Nicholas is in it, em
and M's in it, Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
So they they did a really good job.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
And I get nervous with cameos because then it feels like, hey,
we're going to give you a line or two, and
then you know, then we'll get another person another line
or two. You had reoccurring roles with these a couple
of these big names there. Yeah, even like Nick Faldo's
great and it. Xander Shopley was hilarious. He was so funny.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
There's a lot of good cameos, sneaky ones too, where
I found myself laughing. Not only just that what the
person said, but I'm like, I can't believe Sandler talk
them into doing it.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
I know, I know, Oh my god, they agreed to that.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
I've always thought I've always thought that way was Steve Buscemi,
because Steve Bushmi can be a really you know what
boardwalk empire and then you see him where he's you know,
taking a leak into a mailbox, you know, and you're like, okay,
I mean that's the kind of versatility that you know,
great actors have. David in Ohio, Hi David, what's on

(22:02):
your mind today?

Speaker 6 (22:04):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (22:04):
Dan, best of the weekend. Me and my family saw
Happy Gilmore multiple times. Great films. Pat Daniels was great.
I had a question when the camera pans to Pat
Daniels in the studio, I noticed that your watch was on,
didn't tell what time it was or whatever. I know
what your watch was on every time they payed to

(22:27):
the in the studio of Pat Daniels, and I didn't
know if that was intentional or not.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
So bag you, No, it was not.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
I didn't have product placement, and they're very very aware
of what you're wearing, if there's any logos. And I've
been in a couple of movies where they actually gave
me a watch that had no logo on it. But no,
there was I'm going to try to sneak this in.
It's a you know, a Panori or a Rolex and
maybe I could get you know, free watches, but no,
that was not part of my wardrobe. Yes, so watch

(23:00):
you were wearing was yours or they gave it to
you that was mine? Was a baller Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's a good watch. Good watch. I mean because I'm
a big time anchorman. Correct, so you should wear it. Yeah,
good watch. But I have to be careful that I
can't show something that's too flashy that people then know
maybe what the and you'll you can see this now.

(23:22):
And here's a little trick. This is a little you
know inside TV. When you watch some of these analysts,
they will pull the sleeve back on their left arm
so they can showcase the watch just from watch this
from now on that you'll see a lot of times

(23:43):
on football games that they'll have the their sport coat
and their their dress shirt and it's pushed back and
then you'll be able to see the watch.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Yes, yes see or yes, Paul.

Speaker 10 (23:55):
I went and saw a movie this weekend, the f
one movie in the theaters with Brad Pitt and that
has had corporate sponsorship all over it. Insurance companies, car companies,
watch companies, clothing. I mean, you couldn't get away from it,
clearly to fund the movie. But it was a good
experience in the theater. All right, what's the pole question
going to be?

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Seaton? I think we're going with the hopometer.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah, holy found. Time to go see Formula one, but
not Happy Gilmore two much.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
I watch Happy Gilmore on Friday night the day came in.
Thank you. I appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
I couldn't wait to see it, and mostly to see
you support you, thank you, and then Adam after that.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Okay, first time I came on though, what did you think? Handsome?
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (24:40):
There he is. That's it, there he is. Play you
that handsome fella hands thank you? Actually that is what
my wife's words. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, so the the
pole question. It is funny whenever we like do stuff
like that, like like my wife will be like a

(25:03):
coction of like, oh my god, there he is, like
there's Dan, look at his mustache. It's like an immediate like, ah,
there he is.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
But I want you to hear what I have to say.
I don't want you to be just lost in how
I look. It's disarming, Yeah, because now I know how
Tom Cruise feels sometimes you just see him. You don't
hear what he's saying, Brad Pitt, But I want you
to hear what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
You know what we had when Christopher McDonald was on
Friday Friday right Shooter McGavin, he said something so interesting
in that interview. It stuck with me all week, and
then watching the movie, I was like, gosh, now I
get it. It was just about acting, and he was
talking about being a well trained actor and how you
were sort of saying like he's typecast into being the

(25:48):
jerk all the time. And he said, I think it
was specifically about Shooter McGavin in that role, like I
don't think I'm a jerk. Everybody else thinks I'm a jerk. Yeah,
And there was just something about that mindset of like
when he's acting like that character, he's just beside himself
that nobody else understands. How like absurd this is that
all of this is happening. Why are you people rooting

(26:10):
for him? I'm the guy that you're supposed to rule.
I don't think I'm a jerk. Everybody else thinks I'm
a jerk.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
I just I thought that was so interesting that then
when you're watching him play that role out You're like, oh, wow,
that's it. He really believes that he's the guy that's right.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yeah. You you have the problem, not him. Yeah, you're
the one that's wrong, not me. I'm not a jerk. Uh. Okay,
poll question is going to be what for the first time.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Yeah, I'm working on a version right now where we
could get all thirty two teams in the Hopometer Hopometer.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
So I'm curious to see what team, based on this
has the least amount of hope heading into the season.
So we're populating that right now, Dan as we.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Speak, Okay, Hopometer, We've created a new segment here, Hopometer.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
We also have the This is something I've been sitting
out for a long time. It's one these post it
notes right here. But a while back, let's see ja
your favorite March. Sometime in April, we came up with
the Paul Pats Negativity Index that I'm very excited about that.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
I'm hoping to get that going again. Here his training
camp start PPN I, Yeah, then Classic Yeah, epn I.
Chris and Syracuse. Hi, Chris Wood's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (27:23):
Hey, thanks dance, Kay got a beast and Warsta throw
at you and a quick comment, And my comment is,
I don't know if you saw it Dan this weekend
the Joker, he owns a horse and he won to
harness race. And I don't know if I've ever seen
anybody so emotional and excited before. He was definitely more
excited than only won the title.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Ya.

Speaker 15 (27:39):
He was crying no and my best intro getting into
the hall. And I remember I think it was his
rookie season in the MLB when a ball hit the
dirt and came up and he actually got a single
and then later said he practices that. And I certainly
don't put him with the magnitude of Kobe Michael, you know,
Lebron Tiger, but when you're known by your first name,
you know you're special. Course to the NFL finding those

(28:02):
one hundred guys for scalping their Super Bowl tickets for
too much money, and a lot of ex players have
come out and said they always used to sell their tickets,
it just makes me. I don't know what the NFL's
angle is, but it definitely makes me think that they're
thinking this somehow is going to affect their popularity, which
in turn will affect their revenue.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
All right, thank you, Chris. Well, yes, when you look
at the NFL price gouging, you the customer. But then
they're going to scold the players for doing the same
thing that they do, and that is you know, these
ticket prices. I mean it's embarrassingly high, and really the
real fan has a hard time going to these events

(28:47):
because that's why when you go to a Super Bowl
it's a sterile.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Environment in a lot of ways.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
But it's because it's corporate people who are going to this,
not the true fan, because the true fan can't shell
out that kind of money.

Speaker 7 (29:01):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
Gus in La, Good morning, Gus, welcome back.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
Good morning, mister Patrick or mister Daniels. We'll say which
what do you prefer? All right, best and the worst
of the weekend?

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Worst. We'll get it out of the way.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
The Los Angeles Dodgers do not know what the hell
is going on there, big big weekend going in with
the Red Sox and Red Sox just take two out
of three like there was no problem. I've just got
to get right to trade deadline this week. We'll see
who's a Dodger who isn't. By the end of the week,
I guess best of the weekend, Best of the Weekend.

(29:37):
Last week, I made the joke about the MLB drafting
the worst draft in all sports, and then you have
the MLB Hall of Fame. I'm not saying it's the
best Hall of same, but what it got me thinking
was that every year in the Hall of Fame speeches,
whether it's NBA, MLB, the NFL, hockey, whatever sport, we
are giving a blueprint of how to be the best

(30:01):
in your prospective field. Now I'm not saying I follow it.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
But it's incredible to hear these everyday guys.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
None of these guys go up there and be like,
my dad's a billionaire. You know, I had the greatest trainers.
I had the greatest disgrace that. No, they go up
there and they're like because of this. Billy Wagner was
up there making Jeff Bagwell cry because of how much
he's like, you were the greatest teammate that I could have.
And we are given so many great speeches, and I
don't know if they're ever given the do that they've

(30:29):
had some of the greatest speeches of all time in
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
And that was odd.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
That to me was my best of the weekend was
watching these Hall of fair and listening to these Hall
of Fame speeches and everything like that. You boys have
yourself is.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
A great week Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I think the problem is with Hall of Fame speeches
is they're too long and then you kind of you
want to thank everybody. But you know that's why I
say less is more be impactful. But you do want
to thank everybody. The problem is you shouldn't thank everybody.
You should reach out to people and thank them prior

(31:04):
to the Hall of Fame speech and then just hit
some home runs. Each year Row who knew each year Row,
you know, live at the improv each ear. Row's up
there roasting people. Here he is talking about the Miami
Marlins and.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
To the Miami Mullins.

Speaker 16 (31:23):
I appreciate David Sampson and Mike Hill for coming today. Honestly,
when you guys called to offer me a contract for
twenty fifteen, I have never heard of your team, but.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
I came to love My time is House, Florida.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Okay, all right, little shot at the Miami Marlin who
knew each year Row up there these roasting people. I
think he said something about uh.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
You know, three thousand hits.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
He had two hundred and sixty two in one season,
and basically everybody understood the greatness except for one voter.
And then he did invite the one voter to his
house for dinner. But he says it's expired that invitation.
I'm like, you go, Eachi Roe.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Who knew?

Speaker 2 (32:19):
I didn't even know how much English he spoke all
those years we were told each.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Row doesn't do interviews.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I'm like, all right, he's up there, unplugged live at
the improv. He's getting more laughs than Fritzy. I know
that is thank you. All right, let me take a break.
We'll settle on our poll question here. Also, get ready
to see a lot of North Carolina football. Uh oh boy,

(32:48):
I'm sure that Fox and uh, you know, the Mothership
are going to be all in. I don't even know
if Fox has the acc package, they might be. The
ESPN is going to give you a whole lot of
North Carolina football. They're gonna be the new Colorado Buffaloes.
Belichick and North Carolina football. All right, well, take a break.

(33:09):
Play of the day up next. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within
the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
Oh my God, the play of the day Twitter website iconic.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
This is the play of the day. Check this out,
Swing it and tack till left. He's done it four times.

Speaker 7 (33:42):
What a magical light for the big amish the smoothest part.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Of baby shut it Up.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
Incredible, simply incredible.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Let's courtesy of NBC Sports California. Nick Kurtz plays for
the A's and he had four home runs. He went
six for six, He had eight RBIs. It might be
the greatest offensive performance in a single game in baseball history. Now,
you could bring up other players, but hitting four home runs,

(34:14):
going six for six, he's a rookie.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Eight RBIs.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
He had a three hundred and eighty foot double I
think as well in five or six other parks that
would have been a home run. He would have had
five home runs and scored six runs in a game.
Fourth overall pick in the twenty twenty four draft, and
he has forty three extra base hits through his first

(34:38):
sixty six career games. Since nineteen hundred, there's only one
other player who's done that. Joe Demajio. That's your play
of the day. Play of the day. Play of the day,
brought to you by the great folks at Mako. Most
cars on the road could use little TLC. At Mako,
they bring your car back to life. Affordable paint choms

(34:59):
like cl repairs. Get a free estimate today. Huh oh,
better get Maco. All right, update the poll results if
you can, Seaton, and we'll discuss the North Carolina tar
Heels football schedule, because America get ready for a large
dose of Bill Belichick and the tar Heels.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
We've got the Hopometer going up there right now. We
have it split between the AFC and the NFC. Okay,
only teams that were under five hundred last year.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
So the AFC you have Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Browns, Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Raiders.
NFC you have Bears, Cowboys, Giants, Falcons, Panthers, Saints, Cardinals,
forty nine ers going up there right now, Dan Patrick
dot Com.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
All right, Hopometer. Yeah, it's very exciting, you know, like
the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
My hope is that you are better, because if not,
then I wonder you're going to move on from your
head coach. Can Tua stay healthy? I think he said
one season that he stayed healthy? Tyreek Hill? Is he
there for the long haul? It feels like there's a
whole lot riding on the Miami Dolphins North Carolina tar Heels.

(36:18):
Bill Belichick's first year there. I think there were players
and coaches asked if Bill Belichick's girlfriend or his relationship
with this younger woman is a distraction, and they said no.
Everybody said no, it wasn't. Who is going to say,
at North Carolina one of your players or one of

(36:39):
your coaches going to go, yeah, it's a distraction. Hey
really And we ask everybody and we said, do you
think it'll be a distraction? No, not at all. Wow,
that's some really good reporting there. Okay, North Carolina, do
they have how many games will be nationally televised?

Speaker 10 (37:00):
Yeah, A couple of different reports over the weekend said
they're going to be have at least ten nationally televised
games in different day parts. They start the season. They
host TCU on ESPN the Big ESPN September first Monday night,
eight pm Eastern. So that's a standalone Oh yeah, before
the NFL season starts. But then they have games against
like UCF, Clemson, cal Virginia, Syracuse, Stanford, Duke. All of

(37:27):
them are going to be floated to ESPN or some
other national outlets.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Okay, but here's my take on. You know, it's one
thing to have Bill Belichick on the sidelines. He's not exciting.
I just want to know is your team any good?
Because they can only show you so many times, and
then what are they really showing you. It's the same
look that you had with Dion. Dion was animated, he

(37:53):
had the shades on, had the beard gone, he had
Travis Hunter, he had Schador Sanders. Now you had excitement
there that yes, Dion on the sidelines, and then Colorado
and the product they put on the field. How many
times you tune in to see a coach and how
long do you tune in to see that coach?

Speaker 10 (38:12):
Yeah, Pauet, I was thinking about this because when Dion
took over Colorado, they were really bad. I think maybe
one in eleven or one in twelve. Do you think
the average sports fan is rooting for Bill Belichick too,
do very well or flame out?

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Flame out? It feels like that.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Yeah, yeah, because this now there's a lot of things
that are tied into this, just from me on the
outside looking at you start with his relationship with this
woman and what people will feel about them. You have
the all the greatest coach of all time, and look

(38:51):
what happened when Tom left.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
They were terrible.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
Oh you get you're gonna bring your genius to college football. Okay,
let's see what you got. So I think there's already
that kind of all right, let me see, let me
see what you got. See how much of a genius
you really are. Because he was in the NFL with
the Cleveland Browns and that didn't go well. Like we

(39:16):
we look at this and like spur Year goes to
the NFL and we're like, okay, see what you got,
and then it doesn't go well going from you know,
the NFL to college football. And it feels like every
year we'll say something about a player at North Carolina,
like they always it feels like you got somebody who's
going to be ranked pretty high. They're gonna be you know,

(39:39):
they're going to be singled out. Drake may Man. I mean,
they've had players down through history. And then you go, wow, oh,
Julis Pepper's that's right. He went to North Carolina. Lawrence
Taylor went there. Did Albert Hainsworth go to North Carolina
as well?

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (39:55):
I mean they've had these players, they just haven't had
a great program.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
And now you've got Bill coming in there. And I don't.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
Know what the over under is, but they were a
bold team. I think two of the last three years
with the mac brown they should be good. And you're
in the ACC. I don't think it's too hard to
stand out, but it's gonna be a lot of North
Carolina football, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 14 (40:26):
North Carolina football.

Speaker 7 (40:27):
Okay. The only thing I'm looking forward to is what
type of shoes is he going to be wearing? What
type of Air Jordan's he's going to be wearing. He's
probably gonna pay out the most dull pair of Air
Jordans you could possibly find.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Black on black? Did they have black on black?

Speaker 14 (40:40):
I'm sure they do, But he'll probably be like gray.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
No, because his girlfriend is going to dress him up.

Speaker 14 (40:47):
I think so.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Yes, Yeah, I think that she's going to.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Try to spiff up his image a little bit.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
There be like Bil, we need to wear the cutoff hoodie. Uh,
it's kind of my calling card. I feel comfortable in it.
I know, but your own National TV.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Come on, let me comb your hair and uh, how
about a how about a you know at North Carolina
blue hoodie?

Speaker 3 (41:10):
Okay, how about that?

Speaker 10 (41:12):
Yeah, Paul, the day after you get he got hired,
we said he should have a UNC cutoff hoodie and
they should put it on the website and sell it
for everybody should wear it.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Great.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Yeah, yeah, so opens up the season National TV Monday
night standalone game. Is his girlfriend shown on TV.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
That first game? Todd, I'm gonna say no, all right,
see yes.

Speaker 14 (41:45):
I don't even think she's there, Paul.

Speaker 10 (41:49):
No by design?

Speaker 3 (41:50):
Mm? Not by her design? Oh? Thanks? So pretty sure
she's directing this. She'll be in the TV truck.

Speaker 6 (42:00):
Take me, stand by me, Take me.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
