The way tire buying should be. Brady Quinn, on loan
from Fox Sports, will join us in twenty minutes. Chris
Fowler on the call for last night's Miami win over
(01:08):
Old Miss will join us. Coming up, we will give
you our most must win game of the weekend phone
calls always welcome up. Raider Tyers sitting by eight seven
to seven to three DP show. Good morning if you're
watching on Peacock, our streaming partner and our radio affiliates
around the country including iHeartRadio and Fox Sports Radio. We
(01:28):
got to play the day poll question and of course
a few stats of the day coming up. But give
credit to Miami. We didn't know if they were going
to make it into the playoffs, and now they're in
the National Title Game and it will be a home
game for Miami. Waiting for the outcome of tonight's Peach
Bowl with Oregon and Indiana. Carson Beck he did it
(01:51):
when he needed to do it. It's not always pretty,
but he did it and had the game winner ran
it in. Now, there's a lot of things that we
can discuss with this. There are a couple of plays.
Old Miss should have had a couple of interceptions, Miami
dominated time of possession over forty minutes, and Carson Beck
had a couple of plays. He doesn't normally like to
(02:13):
throw over the middle. He threw over the middle, but
you're converting eleven third downs into first downs. You keep
the clock going and give credit to Old Miss. When
they did have the ball, they made Miami pay. And
that's a really good defense. And Shambliss is a wonderful player.
You know, you watch him, and he does have the
ingredients of being a pro quarterback. I don't know if
(02:35):
he's coming back. I think he is trying to come back.
The NCAA is not ruled on that yet. But he
had a wonderful night as well, and it was a
great story for Old Miss. And I did wonder if
Lane Kiffen would have been coaching that team if there
was no drama surrounding this. And maybe you know it's
(02:56):
not fair to do this, but I did wonder this.
Did they benefit from this with Lane Kiffin leaving and
sort of, hey, he doesn't want us, they kind of
rallied around this. And I know it sounds strange that
the guy who recruited all these players, built this team
got you in this position. Were you better because Lane
(03:19):
Kiffen wasn't your coach last night, as strange as that
may sound, And I would say I don't think you
were better, but I think you were bitter and because
of that, I think you played with that chip on
your shoulder. But you would have benefited from having Lane
Kiffin there because now your head coach could have just
concentrated on the defense. And you know the defense got
(03:42):
roughed up last night by Miami. You know you have
time of possession. Also, another thing is reinforced controlling the
line of scrimmage. That's that's how you win. That's how
you win big games. You run the football, you control
the line of scrimmage, and that's what Miami did last night.
Uh but Old Miss had opportunities there. But Carson Beck
(04:05):
takes it in and we have the touchdown call here,
you got it.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Deck holds his hands out, takes drops the right to
the right. Look you purse.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
Back to the heads out. He resided over the left side.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Carson Back takes it in.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Corey Miamy touchdown, Miami touchdown.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
For Corson Beck.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Is that the winning moment.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
He's a three yard touchdown And you know he doesn't
run that much. He did run a little bit more
last night, but he can kind of he can give
you that great play and then he can also give
you one of those you know, kind of scratch your heads,
like what was that? He gotta be a little bit
more consistent and you're not gonna get away with that,
(04:53):
you know, in the championship game. But they do have
a home field advantage. And then you have this situation
where Fernando Mendoza is from Miami and then you got
Mario Christobal who did coach Oregon. So either way, you
got some interesting storylines there. But the U is back
and an opportunity to win the national championship. Uh seton
what's the poll question today? Well, we got one here
(05:16):
from Paul. The play last night was past interference and
should have been called? Was pass interference and should not
have been called? Or wasn't pass interference? Referring to the
final play that game? Yeah, and I usually like to
look at what what are the calls being made prior
to that and so therefore was it pass interference? Probably
(05:41):
you probably could have called holding on the touchdown run
as well. You know, it's tricky that there's so many plays,
so many calls non calls, targeting not targeting through the
course of the game. But if you stay consistent, then
it shouldn't matter if it's the first player the last
play was there a lot of hand to hand combat there,
(06:06):
and it's not exactly a hail mary. On a hail mary,
there is past interference. Just about every hail mary. Somebody
is tugging, pulling, pushing, scratching, clawing. That one didn't feel
hail mary ish.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
With the way the.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Throw was now, it wouldn't have been a spot foul,
wouldn't have been on the one yard line if they
did call it. It's fifteen yards. But still you like
the consistency and that one you could have called it.
You could have and I know that kind of taking
the easy way out.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
At the time.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I did think there was excessive tugging contact there. I
just didn't think it was maybe enough that they were
going to call it. I didn't think it was egregious,
but I did think that it was there. I thought
that the left tackle you could have called holding on
the Carson Beck touchdown run if you wanted to, yes time.
Speaker 7 (06:57):
And isn't it easier we see in the NFL at
the time to pick up a flag and say there's
no foul on the play as a post of the
other way, where it's one thing to throw a late flag,
But they're not throw it at all, Then you can't
all of a sudden gather together and say we should
have called the penalty on that.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Well, we'll talk to Chris Fowler.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
He'll join us coming up, because Chris will sometimes say
to the rules official, like.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
You sure about that? You sure?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
So that wasn't pass interference. So Chris will join us
coming up. Is that the only poll question we have
for the first hour. We're gonna put that one up now.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
We're also gonna work on one off of our most
must win games of the weekend. That'll turn into a
poll question as well. We have a couple of options
here from Todd since it is a Friday fritzy, Oh,
might as well throw over to.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
That, Okay, Todd, while tweeting his disappointment last night after
all mis lost, would Lane Kippen pass a lie detector test?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
That'd be good TV? Do I think he was rooting
for his team former team. I hope he was also
going to get two hundred and fifty thousand dollars if
they advanced to the National title game, so.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
He might have been rooting from that angle.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
But also there's there has to be part of you
that they might win without me and go to the
national title game like it's got to be. I don't
think it's cut and dried that he's like, of course
he's rooting for Old Miss. I don't know if it's
cut and dried. Yes, Marvin, he kind of took words
out of my mouth.
Speaker 9 (08:28):
Personally, I think he wants them to win legacy wise,
he does not want them to win because the one
national championship that he was a part of, he really
wasn't a part of because he left before they won.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Okay, you got to pick, so what would you pick?
I'm root for Okay, Paul. Do you think that Kiffen
was rooting for Old Miss.
Speaker 10 (08:46):
If he's a human being at all?
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yes, last, I looked to he as a human being.
Well do you know what I mean, Seatan, Yeah, Yeah,
I think he was Todd.
Speaker 11 (08:56):
I like to think the best in people that he wanted.
Speaker 7 (09:00):
I do that could be sarcastic and passive, aggressive and
be a wise guy, but I would like to think
that the humanitarian part of Lincoln or whatever that is,
he wanted his guys to win it.
Speaker 8 (09:10):
You have spent the last I don't know how long
killing this, dude, No, killing this dude, Oh, my ego
is so big that.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
That being said, I want to believe that he genuinely
wanted them to win, even if it meant him not
being standing there holding the trophy up with the guys
and the confetti and everything.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yes, when you say I want to believe, it means
you don't believe. Yeah, you're trying to convince yourself.
Speaker 11 (09:33):
I'm going to say fifty one forty nine he wanted
his team to it.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I'm going to say that he wanted Ole Miss to
win because he does have some guys on his LSU
staff who were there and maybe he's, you know, wanting
them to succeed as well or get the spotlight going
into a national title game. I'm gonna choose to believe
that he Yeah, thank you, Tom. What other pole questions?
Speaker 11 (09:55):
A few more?
Speaker 7 (09:56):
It's not my If it's not my team, I still
want Indiana to win tonight because of Fernando Mendoza in
spite of him. The whole choir boy like, are you
an AI person? Are you real with all that? Because
of him or in spite of him? You want Indiana
to win tonight?
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Okay, all right, it doesn't sound like you're rooting for humanity.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
There with that, I thought you rooted for humanity.
Speaker 11 (10:20):
I wanted the adit to win, But I can't believe
someone can be that.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
I thought Tim Tebow was something, but this guy has
taken it to a whole other level.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Yes, Mark hold On.
Speaker 9 (10:28):
Fritzy just said I want to see the best in people,
and then what you see the best in people, you're skeptical.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
I think when you go to a higher level than
the best and you're now like, oh my god, is
this a person even like a real person.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Or you never said that about Tim Tebow?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
You never said I don't know is he a real guy?
Speaker 5 (10:47):
That?
Speaker 7 (10:48):
But but before I'm like, really everything is a psalm
and all the numbers and stats like t boats.
Speaker 10 (10:53):
Yes, I've been sitting amongst Fritzy for years, but lately,
over the past month, he's been mumbling little things about
Fernanda Mendoz, like this guy's too good to be real?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Is this real?
Speaker 10 (11:03):
He just mumbles it lightly when he's on TV, just
so excited.
Speaker 7 (11:07):
Everything's great and you know, praise the Lord, and like,
I just so just so great to be alive. Okay,
maybe I'm jealous of his happiness.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Lettle I'm that's what this could be. That you happy,
you're you have jealousy over people.
Speaker 11 (11:24):
I think that's definitely what we did, the same thing
with them, you know, with them. I wish I could
be a.
Speaker 7 (11:28):
Stand up comic like that, or perform and sing with
the whole you know Elvis thing and people freaking out over.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
And girls crying. That's why you don't like the Beatles?
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, why don't you be more like Fernando Mendoza then
you wouldn't have this cynical approach.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
It's a jealous, selfish kind of what about me? How
could you not screaming about me and cheering for me?
Speaker 9 (11:46):
It's said, I'm just shaking my head, Okay, I mean
it's it's nine twelve.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
I warned you it was a Fritzie Friday.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
I was.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
I came in and you know, Fritzie was harassing me
as I'm pulling into the parking.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Line down the driveway at the parking lot.
Speaker 10 (12:04):
Yes, Paul, I want to go back to the end
of this play. I watched it another time, the end
of the Old Miss game. And it's really a quandary
because it's not a jump ball. If it's a jump ball,
Hail Mary. They never throw a flag with all the infighting.
It's more of a pass to the back of the
end zone to one guy, but there's other players in
the wash, and the ref is also directly behind the
(12:25):
back of the receiver. You can't see the front of
the receiver being pulled upon, but right at the end
of the play, the Miami defensive back does the not
me arms up move.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
And don't do that because nothing says like a magnet.
Nothing says I'm guilty more than putting my hands up
to see I didn't touch him.
Speaker 10 (12:41):
I do agree with what you said earlier, is that
it's a spot not a spot file and it's fifteen yards,
which means you don't decide the game by throwing that flag.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, congratulations to Miami. You know, I know that there
was I don't think it was one of those always
at Miami or noted getting in from what I'm told
I was told, Alabama may have been the one that
people were more curious about than Miami. But it felt
like it came down to Miami and Notre Dame and
(13:10):
their resumes, and then you know the committee got it right.
They got it wrong that Notre Dame's not in, but
they did get some things right. And I think, as
much as you know, we've harped on that it's an
inexact science, looks like they did pretty well. The numbers
are probably going to be crazy for a last night's
(13:30):
game and then tonight's game, and if you have the
Indiana story, even the Oregon story on Monday night for
the national title. So we'll talk to Chris Baller. He'll
join us in an hour from now. Your phone calls
are welcome eight seven to seven three DP Show email
address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. We're
just getting started, and when we come back, we'll talk
(13:52):
to Brady Quinn not only about college football, but also
the game's coming up this weekend, because some things could
unfold if some coaches lose this weekend, because when you have,
you know, high profile coaches, former coaches who just got
let go were kind of lingering. I mean, look at
what happened with the Dolphins, and do the Dolphins make
(14:15):
that move if they haven't already reached out to John
Harbaugh and vice versa and have a mutual agreement. We'll
talk to Brady Quinn right after this Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
While the semifinal game was going on last night, you
had that situation with Washington with their quarterback, Demon Williams.
So he retained an attorney. This is midday yesterday, and
the attorney looked at the paperwork because he was going
to transfer and it looked like he was going to
transfer to LSU. So what I'm told is the attorney
(15:31):
that he just hired because the agent that he had
decided that he was going to leave him, he was
not going to represent him anymore. And Williams had signed
a contract to stay at Washington. Then he went into
the portal and all of a sudden, everybody went, wait
a minute. So the attorney read the paperwork and then
told Demon Williams he needed to make nice with Washington
(15:54):
as soon as possible because his chances legally to prevail
were very, very low. It would take time and it
would take money. He's going back to you, Dub and
he released a statement or somebody released a statement for
him that he's very excited.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
He's all in on staying at Washington.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
He's Brady Quinn, Fox College Football analyst, Big Noon Kickoff,
former Notre Dame quarterback and the show that precedes hours
on Fox Sports Radio, and the host of Two Pros
and a Cup of Joe. Let's start at the end
of the game. Would you have called pass interference in
that situation? Was it pass interference?
Speaker 12 (16:37):
I personally would not call it.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Could you make a case on pretty much any other
play throughout the course of the game, would that be
deemed pass interference? Yes, probably more likely than not. There
was some pushing going both ways, and in that final play.
I think we all know when those plays looked at
kind as a Hill Mary situation. Even though it was
your traditional hill, Mary, You're not going to get that call.
(17:01):
I mean, I think I'm the only player who was
a part of a Browns team in two thousand and
nine when we lost in the Detroit Lions to ever
basely have a pass interference a defensive pass interference called,
which was called on Calvin Johnson in that game, and
we obviously ended up losing that game. But I can't
think of another example of it in pro football or
(17:21):
even college football.
Speaker 12 (17:22):
For that matter.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
How did Miami win.
Speaker 12 (17:25):
At the line of scrimmage? That's really what they've done.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
And I think last night's game was highlighted by the
offensive line. I mean, that's just a massive group and
it's hard to like really understand dan like how big
they are until you at the field level, because the
camera doesn't do it justice.
Speaker 12 (17:42):
It really doesn't.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
It's my like if it's and I've said this and
we'll get into the semi final game tonight hopefully, but
every time I see Indiana's offensive line and defensive line,
and then you look across when it was the Big
Ten championship for Ohio State or even Alabama most recently,
just go there's a.
Speaker 12 (18:00):
Tremendous size advantage.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Well, that's definitely gonna be the case if AFEW makes
it and wins tonight.
Speaker 12 (18:05):
They're just a massive group. They're physical.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
I mean, you know, Mary Crystoball, really it kind of
made you know, state disclaims as a coach in college
football on the offensive line and that group. I thought
one last night in prior games it felt like it
was Ruben Bain, a key messador on the edges for
their defense.
Speaker 12 (18:22):
But that's what they've won with.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
I mean, I don't get me wrong, they're extremely talented
too in other spots, but that team has led in
the trenches and that's a reflection of who their head coaches.
And then credit to Maria Crystobaal forgetting that team to
play that sort of physical style of football throughout the
playoffs and for the most part throughout the year.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I know, we spent a lot of time talking about
quarterbacks in the portal, and I keep reminding people, give
me offensive and defensive lineman.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
I mean, I'll take it.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
I mean, Georgia won national titles because they basically said,
it doesn't matter who we have at quarterback, but it
matters who we have offensive defensive linemen.
Speaker 13 (18:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Look, at what Philly did after they won those national titles.
Howie Roseman said, I'm gonna draft those guys and a
super Bowl with those guys so win national championship. They
won the super Bowls with that strategy. So that that
to me, I think it is like that. That's what's
not talked about enough for if you really dive into
what's happening in the transfer portal. Now everyone's talking about
(19:21):
the quarterbacks, and they're obviously gonna fetch the highest price
if you don't have one, but it's it's still offensive lineman,
it's defensive lineman. And we can go on for days
talking about how the style of football that's taught at
younger levels and how that translates up and how it
impacts offensive line play, and how hard it is to
(19:42):
find guys who are ready coming out of high school
who either don't need to put on a bunch of
a weight and put on a bunch of muscle and
develop that sort of strength and physicality. That's one part
of it, but also just the way they're taught, the
technique and everything else that goes along with that.
Speaker 12 (19:57):
It's very different, you know.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
It's just a lot of that's changed over time, so
they're a prize commodity. You don't have to look any
further than Texas Tech who won the Big twelve and
look at that defensive front and the impact that it
made on their chances of getting to the playoff and
then ultimately winning in the playoff. But at the end
of the day, like, that's what this game is gonna
come down to, who's best in the trenches and today's
semi final announs in the National Championship.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
If I had Lane Kiffen hooked up to a lie
detector test, who do you think he was rooting for
last night?
Speaker 12 (20:32):
I'd like to think from knowing.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
We keep saying, we'd like to think that, what do
you actually think?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Well, he's incentivized to root for all of this, right,
Like he's still getting paid off these wins, So I
think he.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Was rooty easy, he's rich already.
Speaker 12 (20:47):
This is get that hold on, hold on anyone who
has money. You can't tell me.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
They don't want more money.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
That excuse I hate when people bring that up, like, oh,
they've got money. Oh, I guess they just don't care.
Then gonna light it on fire and they're just they
don't care.
Speaker 12 (21:01):
What happens to it.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
I think he was rooting for ole Miss, and in
part because I mean, like, it's gonna look bad if
obviously they would to winning a national championship, and that's
maybe part of the reason why he left ole Miss
in the first place.
Speaker 12 (21:17):
But he is incentivized.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
I think the dude's got a good heart despite some
of the other things that may could go on. So
I'd like to think that he's rooting for guys too,
who are we are gonna be coaching on staff?
Speaker 12 (21:28):
Charlie West Junior, who agree with that?
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Yeah, I agree with that.
Speaker 12 (21:32):
And even so the players who may be joining him
at something. So I'm I'm sure there's.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Some elements he would be rooting against his players if
they're going to join him because now they can join
him a week earlier.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
True, true, but I think they'll they'll they would still
have that chance after this game to figure that out.
I'd like to think he was roody for Old Miss.
Speaker 12 (21:53):
I believe he was.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
How do you evaluate Carson Beck, who I.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Think you obviously saw in the final drive what he's
capable of. I think we've seen throughout portions of his
career what he's capable of. The tough thing is is
you didn't really have to do a deep dive into
you know who he is as a person. You know what,
maybe hazard hasn't been there for him, so he can
display that consistency like we saw maybe you'd say a
couple of years ago at Georgia or even at points
(22:22):
in time this season, when he has those good games,
he's not able to follow it up and consistently play
that way. You know, it felt like he was managing
the game in the quarterfinal round and then last night,
like when they really needed him, so he stepped up
and made big time throws.
Speaker 12 (22:35):
Obviously the scramble for the touchdown to win.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
But I think you see the high end, like he
can be a guy that's talked about going in the
first round because because of that arm talent and the
ability to layer throws and anticipate and see windows. But
there's other times too, when when you see some of
those poor decisions or you know, him not playing as
well versus pressure, or some of those blitz looks, you go, well,
he's gonna be asked to do at the next level.
(22:59):
So it's hard because you could see the upside there,
but there's still a level of consistency that's just not
it's never really come together, And I don't know how
to put that, you know, how to summarize that at
this time, because I still think he's got a big
game ahead of him if he plays well in the
National Championship. Based on what he did in last night's game,
based on what he did in the National Championship, That's
(23:20):
probably all people really do want to talk about when they.
Speaker 12 (23:23):
Were coming to a draft evaluation of him.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I'm talking to Brady Quinn, Fox college football analyst. What
did Oregon I guess, gain or learn from the first
matchup with Indiana that helps them tonight.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
They got to be better and stopping the run. I
thought that was what ultimately lost him. The game was
in their house, and this is a group that obviously
is highly motivated. You know, you see Dan Lennings pre
game speeches. But they weren't the more physical team. And
I think they know they have to be the more
physical team because Indiana has proven that every single game.
We could talk about for Nanda Mendoza, we could talk
(23:57):
about the defense, Cooper Sarah, some of their playmakers. It
starts in the trenches, like they have, They have dictated
to others how that game is going to go, and
everything to me is based off how they run the
football and the RPOs and everything else off of that.
Speaker 12 (24:11):
So they've got to find a way of stopping the run.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
That's been a little bit of an achilles heel for
Oregons defense this year, if we want to break it down.
But but I tend to believe that you know, when
you have rematches and it's it's seldom you have it
in college football, at least not until we had to
expanded playoff, that you know, the team to lose is
going to learn more from that. And I think you
have evidence of that. Look at the playoff. If you
look at every single power for a team that played
a rematch, the team that lost the initial matchup one,
(24:37):
you know, you don't have to look any further than
it was Old Miss obviously lost to Georgia.
Speaker 12 (24:41):
They just they beat Georgia. In the subsequent round.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
You had Bamba who lost to Oklahoma, who beat Oklahoma,
And even in the SEC Championship game, you know Georgia
lost to Bamba. They you know, they were able to
win the SEC Championship. So there's examples I think of that,
I think the only one you could point to is
or Old Miss who beat Tulay and obviously a rematch
which didn't change anything, but again not really in the
same level playing field. I think that's what the stake
(25:05):
for Oregon is. Is this team to me, Dan feels
like Ohio State last year, where you know, Ohio State
had kind of you know, lost the Michigan game, stumbled
versus Oregon as well, but they kind of built that momentum.
Speaker 12 (25:17):
As they went on to win a national championship.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Oregon, you know, lost that Indiana game, didn't play in
the conference championship, but I feel like they've kind of
learned from that and they've built up from that and
now they've got a lot of momentum as they head
into it. So I would not be surprised at all
if you see a very more you know, physical, different
style Oregon team and as far as how aggressive they
are stopping Indiana's rushing attack.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
The SEC finishes this postseason with a one in eight
record against non conference power for teams. Is this the
future or is this an aberration?
Speaker 12 (25:51):
No, this is what college football has been.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
We we for the third straight year, don't have an
SEC team playing for a national championship for the third
straight year, you know, you didn't have the the bulk
share of representation in the playoff, at least in the
SEMIS they're not represented by SEC teams. So I think
when you really take a good hard look at what's
happened in college football is there's been a shift.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
And and look, you can draw your own conclusion about.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
How NIL and the transfer portal has impacted that where
now you get pay players that it's above board all,
let's someone else, you know, uh, tick off the SEC
fan base about it. And I'm also not naive enough
to think that other schools and other conferences weren't doing it,
but it just kind of see, it feels like an
odd cause and effect that NIL transfer portal that you know,
(26:39):
combination now becomes possible, and all of a sudden, the
teams in the Big ten uh and other teams start
kind of really capitalizing off of that.
Speaker 12 (26:47):
So I think this is going to be more of
the norm. And I think moving forward.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Uh, you know, you're you're only going to see you know,
teams within the Big Ten continuity get stronger.
Speaker 12 (26:57):
I mean, if I you does it, that's no same.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Who else could potentially do it too in the Big
ten that we really didn't think about, you know three
years ago.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
No matter who wins the national title, do you feel
Notre Dame is still better than them?
Speaker 12 (27:13):
Hey, I don't like living in a world of hypotheticals, so.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
I'm not I'm not one of those Notre Dame fans
who's gonna sit there and say that. Okay, I wish
there was a scenario where Notre Dame could have been
in so he could have seen what it would look like,
but that wasn't the case.
Speaker 12 (27:27):
So I don't.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
I even hate the fact that we have to talk
about it, because you know, it takes away from all
the other schools and what they've accomplished, all the players,
what they've accomplished.
Speaker 14 (27:38):
But in trying to make here, you know, but here's
all I'll say, here's all saying with you even asking it,
it goes to show you the brand power of Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Like ESPN can't help themselves and they have to make
a snarky comment as they do the postgame highlights on
Sports Center afterwards about Notre Dame who hasn't been involved
for a month. But like everyone still wants to talk
about him. Okay, Like, go ahead, keep on talking about
the brand that everyone hates to admit is the top
of college football even though they're.
Speaker 12 (28:10):
Not a part of that.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Well, same thing with the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Everybody goes out of their way to somehow incorporate the Cowboys.
And even now, you know, like you know, we're gonna
look ahead, you know, next year with the Cowboys. Wait
a minute, there's games coming up this weekend. Let me,
can you give me a comp for Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Kirk Cousins is kind of who I when I'm watching
his tape and see and hire a higher end.
Speaker 12 (28:40):
M That's a tough question to answer because I.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
As he was a fourth round draft pick. That's why
I was saying that this is gonna be the number one. Now,
granted there's not a lot of quarterbacks in this draft.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Well hold on, I mean, if Dante Moore comes out,
I'm not I'm not so sure he's not gonna be
the number one overall pick. Like, I think there's a
real argument to be made in his upside, his skill set.
He to me, if he came out, would be the
purest passer, meaning when you watch me.
Speaker 12 (29:08):
I think he's got a stronger arm. I think he
layers throws better.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
I know he's not his experience, and obviously you know
he's not the Heisman Trophy winner. And Fernando's had a
tremendous year. I'm not taking anything away.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
From yeah, but let's take you no take away the
college stuff. Let's look at pro potential.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
So so when I watched the tape of these guys
and you're watching the different throws that they're making, I
sit there and look at Dante morr and I said, Yeah,
that's the guy I probably feel like has the higher
upside and and even some of the stuff he does
off schedule.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Okay, let me make you Tom Brady. You're you're the
GM of the Raiders. You're on the clock and the
pick at it is in the Raiders select.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
I would well again, Dantaey Moores hasn't declared so and
so he does, it would be Fernando Mendoza once he does.
I would lean right now, based on my film something
on both probably on Dante Moore. I like that, and
I know that's that's gonna be controversial on people, but
it's just what I've seen from him.
Speaker 12 (30:02):
I've sat down and talked to them, and they're both
tremendous guys.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
Like I think they both be franchise quarterbacks like this,
like we've got in trouble before because we had a
debate over like Bryce Young CJ. Stroud, And it's like,
both these guys be franchise quarterbacks. Like they each have
a skill set that I think translates to me. It's
more about, Okay, if Fernando goes to Las Vegas, or
if Dante goes to Las Vegas, what are they gonna
(30:25):
do to help him out? Because that is a team
that's devoid of protection and devoid of any playmakers helping
him out. I mean, look at Ashton Genty. I think
he rushed for what is it, twelve hundred yards thirteen
hundred yards, like a thousand of them were after contact.
I mean, it's ridiculous what he had to endure as
a running backs. So both those guys I think will
(30:45):
probably go one and two and whatever order the team
see that. But I think the difference for me again
is just I think Dante's got a little bigger arm.
Speaker 12 (30:53):
I think he can create a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
He's less experienced and obviously doesn't have the same type
of tape, but it's effortless. Man when you watch him
the way he throws the football, and the one can
start to have a little bit for Fernando is they
run a bit more of a heavier, heavier, rpo offense,
and so that doesn't translate quite.
Speaker 12 (31:11):
As well to the next level.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
You know, we always talk about the progressive quarterbacks reading
defenses and understanding what they're trying to take away. I
think you see a little more NFL throws more of
an NFL style offense from what Dante is as to
do an organ as opposed to maybe what you're saying
from Fernando and.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Ayu Jets Raiders.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
If you had your choice and you're going to play
quarterback next year, where are you going?
Speaker 5 (31:37):
I think the Jets are better positioned because of their
personnel to allow you to have success. I was a
part of the Jets organization for half a year, so
a cup of coffee or whatever, and I would say,
they've got things set up, but you know, you just
got to hope that it all comes together.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Would you go back to college if that was the option,
You could go Raiders, Jets or back to Org.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
If you're talking about being the I mean, if you're
talking about the business decision and you're the number one
overall pick, I mean, you're making a lot of money
on that first contract that's fully guaranteed, really right for
the first four years with a fifth year option.
Speaker 12 (32:12):
No one's gonna be able to compete with that at
the college level.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
And so you might say, like, are you willing to
take on that risk where, yeah, you could get paid
I don't know, Brendan Soresby got paid what five million
reportedly to go to Texas Tech. You know you're gonna
get paid good money, and you delay it for another year.
But I'll ask you this, Dan Jets raiders the Browns
Tights like they've been drafting it somewhere in that spot
(32:35):
for a long time. Like it seems like it's pretty cyclical.
It happens like every other year. So there's no guarantee
if you go back to school, you're not going to
have that same team in the same situation play itself out.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Yeah, I'll leave you with this. Does Miami fire their
head coach if they don't know who is going to
be their next head coach?
Speaker 5 (32:57):
I it just doesn't line up to think that they
didn't react to the John Harbaugh now being out there
for them.
Speaker 12 (33:05):
Yeah, I mean none of it lines up.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
Not with who the general manager interview candidates have been,
and especially if they end up hiring their general manager first.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about
it is, you know, would Mike McDaniel bench toua if
he knew that he was going to get fired at
some point and whether it's after the season or like,
if he felt like he needed to put the best
guy out there to win and has no disrespect to
(33:29):
Quinn yours, but he's a rookie.
Speaker 12 (33:30):
Maybe they want to see what they have in him.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
But I think as a coach you also do that
if you feel like you're comfortable, like, hey, I'm gonna
be here in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 12 (33:36):
So let's see what we have in this young guys.
That's what strikes me as a bit odd too, is
just the way it all went about.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
It feels like, again they're reactive to who else is
out there, maybe even with Stefanski, but it seems like
all the all the dots are connected and it's gonna
end up being horrible when it's all said.
Speaker 12 (33:51):
It done.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Good to chat with you as always. Have a great weekend.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Happy new Year, by the way, or there was it
too late, it's too any one of those like yeah,
you're okay, you're a.
Speaker 12 (33:59):
Sign a Seinfeld guy.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Okay, yeah, to like, okay, do I wait until the
end of January.
Speaker 12 (34:05):
If I hadn't seen you, I might, I might open
up with that. I think that's a that's a that's
a fair way of handling it.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
And you could have texted me.
Speaker 12 (34:13):
That's a good point. You gotta text me. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
But I wouldn't say Happy New Year.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
I was saying you could have on New Year's Day
said I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
I only respond when people do it to me. I
don't do it. I don't say Happy New Year.
Speaker 12 (34:27):
Oh you're one of those guys. Okay, I'll keep that
in mind. I'll keep that in mind.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I did say Happy New Year to Lane Kiffin though, see.
Speaker 12 (34:37):
But that maybe that's because Lane's pretty.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
Good alluring people into situations like demand Williams and all that.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Maybe you know, I didn't reach out to Lane. But hey,
have a great weekend. Thank you, Bud, thank you. That's
Brady Quinn.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
I'm not a happy New Year. I got my hair
cut yesterday.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
I walked in and a woman cuts my hair and
she goes, happy new Oh that's right, I remember last
year that you know, I can't say Happy new I go,
oh you can, I just not a hey, happy New Year.
You know we're a week after the fact, yeah, poem, But.
Speaker 10 (35:11):
The debate and the conversation you're having with these people
is longer than just.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Excel a happy New Year.
Speaker 8 (35:16):
And I agree with you philosophically, yes, yes, not only
are we a week after the fact of New Year's
but we're solid eighteen years into having this conversation every
first week of the year, and you still haven't found
a way to just let it roll off your back.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Oh no, I'm even more imfortable. Don't say it to you,
then you say it back. If they don't say it,
then don't say.
Speaker 8 (35:35):
It, and then you could even life is going to
be a lot less stressful for you.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
I'm sorry. I mean I got a big night. I
mean wait, I mean, when can we start saying it?
Why can we stop saying it? Like I whatever you want?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I see a dog psychic tonight, Pretty queen wants to
say Happy New Year?
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Say it? I know if you don't want to say it,
then don't say it. I know you just move on
with your dad. I just can't. There's certain things, Yeah, poem.
Speaker 10 (35:56):
You could even give people up back at you when
they say Happy New Year. So you're not saying it, but.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
You're kind of well, I have done diddo.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Or when Sody says Happy New Year, and then I'll
do a thumbs up.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
That is minimum kindness. God, I love emojis.
Speaker 10 (36:13):
Oh, by the way, when you started doing emojis probably
the worst day of my life about eight years ago.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
It's like you found them. You resisted for a long time.
You were very anti emoji.
Speaker 12 (36:25):
No.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
When I when I got my whole arsenal of emojis,
I'm like, they got everything, every emotion in here. This
is These are awesome. Let's take a break. Our play

he seventeen years of age?
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Jorsey? Did he just turn eighteen?
Speaker 10 (37:30):
He turned eighteen in September. He after his junior year
of high school, which he was like Gatorade Player of
the Year, you know, he reclassified and basically skipped. Not
basically he skipped his senior of high school. He's one
of the youngest guys in all of college football.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
So he did a kind of a transfer portal from
high school right to Miami.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
He Cooper flagged it.

They just have dudes, whether they're good or not, they
always have players that just sort of jump off the screen.
You're like, dang, who the hell is that kid? And
why isn't he at like a powerhouse?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
You know?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I mean, this Miami team happens to be really good though.
Vince in Illinois, Hi, Vince, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 5 (38:28):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (38:28):
More in there, Dan Dennetts. This is my second time
being on here. I just wanted to say thank you
Seaton for taking the Bears back back in October. They
are doing very well and I'm happy to see them succeeding.
(38:49):
Just wanted to know what tie of the face he
was going to take and why.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
What was the bet that Seaton made Vince?
Speaker 13 (38:59):
It was is that the Bears. He believed the Bears
would lose the Fantasy North Division.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Okay, so the Bears wouldn't win the NFC North. You
got it?
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Okay, I don't remember it, Seaton. Do you remember placing
that bet that the Bears wouldn't win the NFC North?
Speaker 8 (39:18):
Got admit I probably could have placed that bet yesterday
and not remembered it today. But if I think, I
don't think Vince would make that up. So I'm happy
to take a pie to the face.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
So that's two pies for you. Yeah, both on bets.
Speaker 8 (39:30):
I don't remember making at all, not in any way,
and you don't drink anymore.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Yeah, I don't. I don't.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
I think damage already done. Polio's a pie? Anybody else?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Marvin? Oh man? Are we going to have like a
pie day?
Speaker 8 (39:46):
What day is that like three fourteen or something?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Is pie Day?
Speaker 12 (39:49):
Because that's what.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
All Yeah, the pies?
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Yes, three point one four March fourteenth?
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Can we look and see? Is that what day of
the week?
Speaker 8 (40:03):
Oh?
Speaker 11 (40:03):
I think select on Sunday's March fifteenth. That might be
a sul that's disappointing.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Well let's come in on a Saturday and then we'll
film it, yes, Marvin, no body all right, Vince, We'll
we'll do some some work there. See if we can
find that bet. I told Mario, I said, Mario, you're
the eyes and ears of the show. Why don't you
(40:28):
keep track of all of this? Or maybe big day
Ray somebody back there? Yeah, see, if you're watching on Peacock,
there's no movement back.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
Nobody's doing anything.
Speaker 10 (40:39):
No jumping on this career.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Opportunity.
Speaker 8 (40:40):
Yeah, I don't know what took Vince so long to
call in with the Bears clinching the NFC North is
But okay, fine, okay, okay, fine, No, I believe you
would you update the poll results right now. It's about
a fifty two to forty eight split. Should the final
play of the Fiesta ball had a flag.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Year, it should have been.
Speaker 12 (41:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
I think the official might have been out of position,
or at least he was out of the position where
he could have seen the actual tugging and pulling.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Yeah, Paulling, he's.
Speaker 10 (41:12):
In a good spot. He's down the sidelines, but the
back of the behind right exactly the back of the
receivers to the him, and he's being pulled by the front,
almost like his lapels are being pulled.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
Chris Fawer.
Speaker 12 (41:24):
They don't have lapels.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Chris Fowler was on the call last night. He will
join us coming up here in about a half hour.
More of your phone calls as well on this meet Friday,
Todd Seaton, Mar Paulie, yours truly and the back room
