Well, Hey, we're twenty three days away from the NFL
season and I'm engulfed in football. It's not because of
Travis Kelce. I saw that he said, Taylor Shift is
engulfed in the NFL. So maybe later we talk about
the influences random women have had in your life. Cavino,
Have women gotten you into something and you're like, oh,

(01:12):
you know what, she really did get me involved?

Speaker 4 (01:15):
You know what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
The things you do for love, the things you do
for your significant other.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Women, for the.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Most part, put up with a lot with our sports
obsessions and our habits. And I actually have a story
about this. Rich, forget about Kelsey. I'm supposed to hearing
about those guys. No offense, I say that respectfully, But
I did some crazy stuff for my girlfriend, in fact,
in Lake Tahoe, for my girlfriend paying respect to her

(01:42):
grandma who passed away live from Lake Tahoe. Never been
here ever, Hey, what's going on? Heyah, yeah, we're gonna talk. Hey,
I'm Tahoe Boy.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
I usually hell you Taco boy.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
No, no, Tahoe boy. So the things you do for
your significant other? Will talk some baseball. Every one Wednesday
on our show, we do something called mid Week Major.
It's the biggest stories in the world of sports and
pop culture. But are those stories.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Mid like the kids say week or major?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Headlines will break that down and we play a game
giveaway prizes. It's called Big Mike's Wednesday Words of Wisdom. Rich,
We're gonna turn this hump warning, this hump day into
a hump night.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Just keep it here.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I don't even know what that means yeah, Covino and
Rich on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
So, Hey, congrats to your boy Pete Alonzo.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
You know, I wanted to start with that real quick,
and I do want to talk about show Hey, Tommy.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
He had a wild twenty four to forty eight hours.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
There was a triple play, there was what we thought
would be a game winning home run and just doesn't
work out the way show Hey wanted and the Dodgers wanted.
That division is now tied with like forty games to go,
Padres and Dodgers.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Who kid as for anything more?

Speaker 2 (02:56):
That looks awesome out west, So we'll Talktani. Aaron Rodgers
is bitching and complaining about something, so we'll talk about him.
A lot to get to but real quick, I know
it's my team, but I I had a question for
you when you saw the Highland.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
I'm sure you've seen it.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Pete Alonzo hitting home run number two fifty three.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
And Pete Trimphs won a deep right center field headed.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Back for the wall of hair.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Head of hair, Peter Alonzo stands alone the polar Bear
on his own private iceberg.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Peter Alonzo the most prolific home run hitter in New
York Mets history.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, Polar Bear, Pete On an Iceberg of his own,
and Gary Cohen and of course the enthusiastic call. But
as a Mets fan, I loved it. I soaked it up.
He hit another one after that. But do you think
that's a bit dramatic for I mean, they stopped the
game down it was at City Field. I loved it,

(03:57):
But I mean two hundred and fifty three home just
makes you realize there hasn't really been that awesome of
a Met No, and.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
You nailed it.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
That's exactly what I was gonna say. When you have
so few highlights as an organization. Now, when you go
back to City Field previously, Shay, it was like going
back into a time warp, into a time zone. It
was like going back to eighty six because that's the
last time they won. You're still seeing highlights of Keith

(04:26):
Hernandez and Darryl Strawberry, Dot Good and rain Knight, Tim Tough,
all those guys, and any other highlights they had, let's
say twenty fifteen or the Subway series. It didn't amount
to anything much. So you gotta lean into these as
an organization. And who better than Peter A Lonzo. You
mean the guy they stiffed and drug along all off season.

(04:49):
And what he's done is remarkable because he's a goofball,
I guess, or a big dope or I don't know
how you view the guy. I don't think he gets
the respect he deserves the respect. That and Judge Gats
or a show. Hey Gats. He's played seven years and
he has two hundred and fifty four home runs now.
His rookie year twenty nineteen fifty three domes, then an

(05:13):
off year with sixteen he didn't play as many games.
He played fifty seven games that year, thirty seven home runs,
forty home runs, forty six thirty four. He now has
twenty eight home runs. And again he did this for
the Mets in seven years.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
And keep it mind, I just said one of those
years was the COVID year, So like that, you know,
it could be it could be two seventy five right now.
Have had that not been the case, you know exactly,
he would have crushed Darryl Strawberry's numbers. And by the way,
who did he beat. It's also a big deal because
of who he beat, and Darryl Strawberry to the Mets

(05:49):
is everything. Darryl Strawberry, just for the record for stats
Baseball Reference, Daryl Strawberry played seventeen years in the Bigs,
hit three fifty three, but for like four five different teams.
With the Mets, he hit two hundred and fifty two
home runs in eight years. So again, Pete Alonso's de

(06:09):
new Mets home run king did it a year less
and finally gets a little bit of the credit he's
deserved for.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
A long long time.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I think, yeah, look, I'm the first guy that wants
to dump on your Mets. But I think that is
something you lean into. I think you stop the game.
I think you give him proper credit, you give him
a standing ovation, you let him lean into the moment.
Congrats me and I think that's really really cool, Rich.
I think it's a big moment for your for your team.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Couple curtain calls, and again, I want to make this
less about my Mets, because I know we're on in
LA and other big cities, but New York. You know
we're not on in New York this morning. But I
will say this, buddy, boy, when you see your team play,
and I saw this last time with my Mets, but
this applies to anyone basketball, football, baseball, hockey, hatthag game,

(07:00):
you know, all the major sports.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Yeah, when you see your team play to its full potential,
is it sometimes aggravating because you know they're capable that.
Let me give you an analogy. You know, when you're
on vacation sounds terrible. Well, you know, like the WiFi
breaks out like some lingerie and some crazy moves in
the bedroom, or your kids really behave, or like your

(07:24):
coworkers pull their weight and you're.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
Like, you could be doing this all the time. What
are we doing?

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Like when an album is put out by a band
you like and it's really good and you're like, then,
why was your last album a stinker? There's something to
be said when you see your team putting out full
effort and being awesome.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
It also happens at work, not just in the bedroom. Yeah,
at the office.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
I said that.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
You know, sometimes sometimes you're like what is this guy doing?
Or things don't seem to be functioning on all cylinders.
But then some days everything's just right. Everybody's stepping out
and playing their part, and you're like, that's it. That's
the magic, that's the chemistry, that's the way it's supposed
to be.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Is that what fans get buy on, is that what
bosses and husbands and wives do. We just all get
by sometimes. I'm not trying to get all philosophical, but
do we all get by a lot of times on
knowing that?

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Man, but they have so much potential.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Like I look at the Mets last night and for
a team that is now like five six games behind
the Phillies, they've stunk it up.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
But when you see.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Neimo lindor Alonzo Soto everyone contributing, and you're like that,
that's it.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Do that again tomorrow night?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Or when, like I said, when your kids are really
well behaved on a little weekend trip and you're like,
see when you listen to mom and dad eh, or
your coworkers, like I said, pull their weight on the
group project or the sales meeting or something, You're like,
you know, I see that you could do it.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
Why don't you do it all the time?

Speaker 6 (08:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:59):
I don't know, man, I wish I had the answer
to that.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
That is the beauty and wonderment and confusion of sports.
Chemistry doesn't last forever. Chemistry is not permanent. Some days
better than others, because again bio arrhythms, moods. Everybody's different
on every day. But if you're able to step up
and you're able to put that in the bottle when

(09:22):
it matters like playoffs or big broadcasts or moments in
life or vacation sex. Like you said, yeah, I guess
that's what we hope for and strive for. It can't
be every day. That's just how life is. Ups and downs.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Yeah, that is true.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Now, speaking on a side note, yep, I was gonna say,
rich and I have a bet a thousand dollars bet
Mets and Yankees, and it seems like every time your
Mets lose, my Yankees lose, and every time the Yankees win,
the Mets win.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
They're half a game within each other right now, which
is crazy to think, but neither team could find that chemistry.
And you see it sometimes you're like, there it is,
there's and that's just life. So you know, baseball is
life or something like that. Now, that was going on
in New York last night after you out here on

(10:11):
the West Coast.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
The Dodgers were.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Playing down in Anaheim, and I had somebody random buddies
hit me up and they like, yo, did you see
the triple play, and you tell you, tell me it's
not exciting to see a triple play in Major League Baseball.
I'll kick in the ass un tell you you're wrong,
because when shows up with two on, no outs, and
you're like, oh, what an opportunity, the Dodgers are wronging

(10:34):
Danny g you're a Dodgers fan, you were probably thinking, oh,
Tani's up with two on TI game?

Speaker 5 (10:40):
What you couldn't ask or anything more?

Speaker 7 (10:43):
Well, earlier in the game, as you call him Confardo,
Confardo was up with the basis loaded. How was that
guy in the lineup every day?

Speaker 5 (10:51):
No offense? I'm series a swell fella.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
But Michael Confardo continues to get stars on the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
It goes back to what you said, the potentials there,
it's just you can't do it on an consistent basis.

Speaker 7 (11:04):
And a lot of this falls on the front office
rich because Dave Roberts hands are tied somewhat. Who's he
gonna put in there instead of Confordo? But Dodger fans
are super frustrated with him because it seems like anytime
he comes up in a moment that should be hopefully
where he has a clutch moment, it doesn't end up
that way. He pushed the count to be full, and

(11:26):
I'm thinking, please just walk, please just walk a run
in and know he's struck out.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Dude, when you're rooting for your.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Guy the way you do for the crappy kid at
the end of the little league lineup, like just walk,
come on, just walk, I'm not a good sign that
guy should not be your everyday player.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
I think rich and you know this because he played
for your Mets.

Speaker 7 (11:45):
The front office they air on the side of, well,
he might heat up and we don't want to dfa
him out and then he'll heat up for some other team.
That's that's probably what they're thinking, even though it's probably
the line.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Listen, man, I'm not in the business of being in
a hal to someone for no reason.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
But when Canford Oh.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Was on the Mets, I remember him passing up get this, Danny,
because you see this guy now every day. At one
point and could you know you remember this? He said, yeah,
no thanks. The Mets offered him five years, one hundred million,
twenty million a year for five years, a five year,
one hundred million dollar deal.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
And he was like, yeah, no, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
I'll I'll test this out, and no other team really
so he has been trying ever since.

Speaker 7 (12:34):
And as far as show, hey, it looked like he
went from hitting into a triple play, which seems like
the Dodgers do that every season for summery. I remember
them hitting into a triple play last season U two.
That was the sixth inning to the ninth inning. He
steps up and just crushes a bomb, puts the Dodgers ahead.
All they had to do was, you know, hold on

(12:55):
to that lead in the bottom of the night. They couldn't,
and so it went to extras, and you saw what happened.
The Angels pulled it out in extra innings. And that
means with what the Padres are doing, it is now
tied up in the NL West and Friday night in
Los Angeles, the Dodgers and the hated Padres play each other.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
That's what I say.

Speaker 7 (13:15):
That rivalry, Yes, you guys know, one of the better
new newer rivalries in all of baseball.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
Dude, it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
And even if you don't care much about the Dodgers
of Padres, this weekend, my goodness, you got to be
checking that out a little bit. With that division tied
like I said, with forty games to go, it's it
doesn't get more exciting than that. But the triple play,
who fell at first base? Saying it for the whole year,

(13:41):
baseball's popping. These are the highlights that stand out between
Alonzo and this triple play and how close everything is.
I know you want to talk about football because we're
twenty three days away, but you got to lean into
these moments. Oh, don't forget welcoming great for the past
season and.

Speaker 7 (13:57):
A half and Coveno, we talked about what the Brewers
are doing. On yesterday's show. We talked to pocket Pancakes
and they stay hot.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
They beat up on Paul Skeins. I mean, the paces
look unbeatable in moments. Let me ask you this, Kuve,
when you when you see a triple play and Otani
is part of it.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
And by the way, who fell at first base? Yo?
He looked at that. That made even better.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
He fell did?

Speaker 5 (14:29):
They fell on his ascid first base trying to get back.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
He looked.

Speaker 6 (14:32):
It was scary for a second he.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Took a fall.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
I was glad that he was okay, Like, oh, that dude,
that home run Otani hit that you thought was gonna
be the game winner. I'm not trying to be dramatic.
He crushed that ball. Otani is one of those guys
that when he gets it, he gets it, and that
ball was smoked. And again, it's just when you're when

(14:58):
your team can't find the way to clar out a game, Danny,
it's uh, it's like Kevino said the other days, it
sometimes feels contagious, like the yips, like those losing ways
just starts spreading through the through the team.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
I mean, they've battled so many injuries that we taught
We've talked about that throughout the season, but you got
to rise above it. But it's also on the front
office of these teams to do something at the trade deadline.
The Dodgers did last year and it helped them get
to the World Series and win the World Series. This year,
they sat on their hands, watched the Padres and make
all those moves and right now, honestly, that's what's setting

(15:32):
the Padres apart.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
Yeah, injuries definitely hurt the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
But back to what Rich said too with the show,
hey hit, some guys just have a different sound off
the crack of their bat show. Hey, I had to
be I didn't hear it rich in spot, but and
Danny had to be over one hundred and ten miles
per hour exit velocity easy the way he crushed that ball.
And the only other guy that comes to mind you
would think his judge is not judge is Jean Carl Stanton. Dude,

(16:01):
when he hits it, I mean, he just destroys it.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I saw John Carlo hit standing over his career hit
home runs that looked like it could be a It
looks like a line drive that just clears the shortstop.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Yet it just keeps going, it goes out of the ballpark.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
When he was a dude, I mean early like Marlin
turning Yankee Stanton like like, you know, a little while ago,
when he was in his primo days, he still could
do it. He's he's still probably on a daily basis,
his top five exit velocity every night, but stands a beast.

Speaker 7 (16:34):
Oh I'm sorry, Kobe, and I was just gonna point
out it's notable that California Love Show. Hey hit that
off of Kenley Jansen, the you know, infamous former Dodger closer.
So that was an extra hype moment for Dodger fans
until the bottom of the ninth.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
I was gonna say, Jian Carlo just clubs him, Dude.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
I don't know if his bat speed, strength, power, the
way they connect, but I would say it's show hay stand.
I would actually say a Stanton then show hey, and
just from the eye test rich and exit velocity. When
we were at the home run derby watching O'Neill Cruz
hit bombs, it was like the man amongst men like

(17:14):
it was insane to see the difference of the pop
on his back.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Some guys show he got one of those. Some guys
could rip the ball. Other guys just separate themselves. And
O'Neill Cruz show, hey, John Carlos stand, there's guys that
just hit the ball. It's just a little harder than
everyone else. But hey, baseball's popping. Football is back twenty
three days till opening day and opening kickoff. I do

(17:39):
want to talk about Aaron Rodgers a little bit. I
want to talk about the Cowboys, Kelsey and Taylor shift
in the news. But I have an angle that's you know,
I'm not caring about her new album, but it has
to do with what you do for the love. We'll
get to all that coming up. But do you remember,
in the beginning of the season, we all thought the
Dodgers were gonna win one hundred and ten games. The

(18:00):
Dodgers have forty games left. Forty two games. Would you
say it's a fair statement to say, Danny, twenty four
and eighteen. Yeah, twenty four and eighteen, that would be
You'd be satisfied with twenty four and eighteen. It might
not win the division, but twenty four and eighteen seems fair.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
The way the team looks right now.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Yeah, twenty four and eighteen gets you to ninety two
and seventy. We were also convinced that this Dodgers team,
it just shows you chemistry, injuries, all these things play
a role. And again, the Dodgers are just too good
to not make the postseason. But we all thought that
they were gonna win. Maybe we speculated with like, yo,
could they end up winning like one hundred and twenty
games and beat the Seattle Mariners record. That was a

(18:44):
real conversation. That wasn't bs. We thought that was a possibility.
But just to show that it's not easy to.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Win one hundred plus baseball games, it's just not It also.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Shows you that you can't predict anything. I mean, we
had reason to believe that with their pitching, pitching stacked
every position and all start squad. But you can't predict,
like Rich said, the chemistry, but you can't predict the
injury and what could.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Go down in the long ass seasons.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Remember we talked about how their number five could be
an ace for a number team, a number any other
team their number five pitchers ace. We talked about how
they're seven, eight to nine in the lineup would be
the heart of the lineup for a lot of lower
level teams.

Speaker 7 (19:24):
Well, a lot of your conversation about them maybe winning
one hundred and ten games was after they signed Blake Snell.
Remember how many which game which start from Snell? Has
been your favorite this year? Rich, he hasn't been on
the field like a lot of the Dodgers pitchers.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
You just got to hope if we just got I
just got back from Vegas and you'll get that big board.
The Dodgers are still the odds on favorite to win
the World Series. I assume that the Vegas sentiment is
still that the Dodgers will find the way. Cavino's that's
the sentiment that listen, come playoff time. I'm they'll have

(20:01):
starting pitching that's healthy enough, plus Mookie Freddie sho Hey,
it'll be October and they'll just get it done.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
But for a team that's the odds on favorite by
far to.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Win the World Series, well, they've proven they could do it.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
They're not even leading their division right now, they're tied,
so I mean, we'll we'll see what happens.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
For another reason, what makes it so exciting?

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Man?

Speaker 4 (20:26):
All right, Well, you don't want it to be that predictable.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
We could shift gears from baseball to a little football.
I know everyone's got football.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
On the brain.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Aaron Rodgers got a goofy helmet on the brain. Aaron
Rodgers got a problem and it has to do with
his helmet. I want to just dissect this a little bit,
so I know Danny has a four minute timer. Anytime
we talk about Aaron Rodgers, so little, Aaron Rodgers, little NFL.
I've a thought about the Cowboys. I know we're going
to talk about Kelsey. So all that and more coming

away prizes. We got midweek major, we got headlines, We
got lots of fun. Cavino and Rich super fun time.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
You know Mike on the show Micah runs his Place.
Might have the most fun fact story of all time.
You know everyone you meet if you asked him like
a give me like a random fun story about you.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Mike has two. He was on supermarket sweep back in
the day.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
He was running up and down the aisles of the
supermarket on a game show. And when he was a
younger man. He was trying to get with some girl.
He went back to her apartment, and just when he
thought he was about to get it on, there was
a knock on the door and her neighbor was Gary
Coleman from Different Strokes Arnold, and he sea blocked him

(23:36):
and came in and decided to hang and play scrabble.
So I don't know anyone else that was c blocked
by Gary Coleman.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
So that's why Big Micah runs his place. Sort of
a legend around.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Here, absolute legend.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
So we're gonna pass on his words of wisdom, and
of course we kicked off the show.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Congrats again to your boy.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Polar Bear Pete the all time Mets home run hitter
two hundred and fifty four bombs. In an era where
we have show Hay and Judge and Harper's and Machado's
and Tatisa's and Akunya juniors, you know, I feel like
he doesn't get the credit he deserves. So I think
it was warranted to stop the show yesterday and give
them props. You know, there's so many people in life

(24:16):
rich to move on from baseball. There's so many people
in life that get props that don't deserve those props.
It's like that girl and the crew that everybody celebrates,
but she's like the worst girl of the whole bunch.
Why does everybody celebrate her? She's the weakest. You know,
some people don't get the credit they deserve. I think
Pete Alonzo's that dude, So congrats to him. He did

(24:38):
it in seven years. Daryl did it in eight years
with the Mets. And again that short year has to
play factor here. Twenty twenty cut everything short so he'd
have a lot more congrats to Congrats to baseball having
lots of moments. But now we're talking football because twenty
three days away.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
We are going to talk football. But I had one
last thought for you, and I think you'll like this thought. Actually,
two more quick baseball thoughts. Baseball, you can't give the
MVP to a guy hitting in the two forties?

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Can you say? Is it true?

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (25:09):
It's just a natural truth thought to think that Aaron
Judge will win another MVP.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
Cal Raley the big dumpers great, but.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
He's got a little cold, so he's betten two forty five.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Well, the average was never the factor was what he
was doing as a catcher right as a catcher, and
if he hits over sixty two, you're really scratching your
head thinking, well, man, he might be the guy because
Aaron Judge also got injured this year.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
You know, of course I'm leaning.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I'm a Yankees fan to see the all around game
of an Aaron Judge, all around game average, home runs right,
his defense is underrated. I think obviously it's Aaron Judge.
You see how they crumble when he's not line.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
I mean, I think cal Raley is awesome. I think
Seattle is lucky to have him. The Big Dumper. He's
got the best nickname in all of sports, possibly since
the Big Unit. The Big Dumper is great. We saw
him at the All Star Game. But I don't care
if you're catcher hitting forty fifty plus home runs, I
don't think you could be the MVP when you're batting

(26:16):
in the two forties. The lowest MVP batting average, just
for the record is shohe Otani. He hit two fifty
seven in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
But let's keep in mind he was also an ace
pitcher that year.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
He was a full time pitcher and a hitter, which
is why it made sense, but two fifty seven was
the lowest ever for an MVP, So if cal Rowley
did end up winning the MVP this year, it would
be the lowest batting average ever for someone that was
the most valuable player. And so sho Hay was an
ace pitcher. Cal Raley just got that age. He just
got that a's and one more baseball note. You could

(26:52):
say that guys like Felix Hernandez King Felix and Jacob
de Gram paved the way for this to even happen
as far as starting pitchers who were named the Cy
Young Award winner. I remember when King Felix was thirteen
and twelve, only one game over five hundred, and he

(27:13):
was your Cy Young Award winner ERA two point twenty
seven back in the day. And then my dude on
the Mets, Jacob the ground who got the worst run
support in the history of baseball. His ERA was one
point seven. Oh, so they had to give him the
cy Young that year he was ten and nine. But
the sentiment is, could Paul Skeenes be the first starter,

(27:34):
not pitcher, first starting pitcher to win the Cy Young
Award with a losing record, Because Paul Skeenes is currently
seven and nine with a two point one to three era.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
I mean, if he's that low in the ra and
he's that dominant on the mound even though the Brewers
smacked him around a little bit, Yeah, he could be
the first. He's the guy everybody knows how great he
is and how crappy the rest of the team is them.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
That's awesome. That's why we love sports. Signs you never
saw before. You might get a Cy Young Award winner
with not even ten wins. Anyway, moving along to football,
let's talk about Aaron Rodgers and his bulbous, big ass helmet.
I mean, it's not like it's not like the Eli
Manning concussion helmet or the David Right helmet back in
the day.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
But Aaron Rodgers saying this helmet.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
He wore the same football helmet, the same style for
twenty years, and they are now making him change it up.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Here's what he said, trying to change.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
We're in the process too.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
It looks like a damn space ship about that.

Speaker 5 (28:37):
You're gonna change it.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
The face mask doesn't fit the helmet because that's an
old face mask obviously, just like I'm a old pet.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
We're trying to find the right helmet right now.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
It's an old helmet. It doesn't fit. He's an old guy.
The face mask it feels like it's like loose on
his forehead, Like he's I get it, but you gotta
get him right. Yeah, But he sounds like a like
a crotchedy guy. Who's the last guy to complain about
the helmet that you remember another Pittsburgh Steeler, Antonio Brown

(29:06):
when he went to the Raiders. Remember then it ended
up like he never ended up playing.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
And how did we feel about that? We were like,
come on, dude, just get out there and do your thing.
You know, it's even worse with Aaron Rodgers in a
lot of ways because he's criticizing the new look of
the helmet. But yet in fact he's the guy that
looks the most odd wearing the old helmet. He looks
like the great Kazoo out there. He looks odd. It's
very round, very bulbous, very nogging boss very old school looking.

(29:33):
You know, he was the last dude to rock the
regular material chin strap, like the old school chin strap,
the same one year grandpap he wore in.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
High school football. That's an old look.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
So he looks more ridiculous not advancing with the new equipment.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
I mean, let's not make it sound like Aaron Rodgers
is Reggie Roby with his one bar face mask. Reggie Roby,
Hell yeah, I mean, who doesn't remember Reggie Roby with
his one single bar. Steve Largent also had a air
like he just had the two little, you know, metal bars.
But Aaron Rodgers quote, I can't stand the helmet. I've warned,

(30:15):
I've worn to shoot for twenty years, and somehow is
it shut. I've worn shot, I've worn to shut the
shut air XP pro Q eleven Ltd.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
It's like a twenty twelve version that's always passed. The
test lasted a long time, but for the first time,
the NFL labs tested it and finally forced the retirement
of the helmet. So they're sort of forcing him to
move on and step into today's game. I don't know
and look like everybody else. You know, when you're the
only guy rocking it, that's what makes you look ridiculous.

(30:51):
This There is a part of me that and.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
A safety factor.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
There's a part of me that's like, you know, I mean,
guy wore for twenty years, he's got now now it's
not good enough. I don't know, but it does show
you that I don't know if he's complaining as much
as just explaining.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
It reminds me of in every industry, whatever you do
for a living is always the resistors and Danny g
I'm sure you've seen this on your radio come up
over the years. Back in the day when I was
first starting in radio and broadcasting, there were always the
old heads at the station.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
They were like, man, I want to play records or CDs.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Like they got mad when we changed to computer systems,
and I remember thinking, like, you better learn it, dude,
because you can resist all you want, but we're.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Not going to be playing records.

Speaker 7 (31:36):
It was more editing phone calls like when we were kids.
In radio, the old timers had done real to reel
tapes with razor blades and these white pencil markers to
mark the tape. And once it went digital. I remember
I was like seventeen years old at a radio station
and there were a couple old veterans at the station like,
I want my real machine.

Speaker 6 (31:58):
I'm not doing digital.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
I'm gonna play.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Records and use a real turreal And then you know,
all the radio stations for iHeart serious exmy, they.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
All use like, you know, pretty easy to use.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Computer systems, next gen profit it's called like it's a
it's essentially like a system that segs songs into each other.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
You could edit easily.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
But dude, again, there were this horrible look.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Not willing to advance, you know, because the game passes
you by, the game of life passes you by. If
you're not innovating and advancing and willing to make that change,
you know, you get stuck in the rut and you're
the dinosaur. And he's worn this helmet for twenty years. Hey, great,
that's grand. He looks ridiculous. That soft cup chin strap.
He's gonna knocked in the face. We know that image

(32:44):
of him laying there when it's going across his nose.
He's lucky he doesn't have his chin split open with
that thing. These guys are getting bigger and stronger. You know,
our resistance wasn't a safety issue or a health issue
or a concussion issue either. But Rich, in every industry,
you're right, there's something And I got one across the
board that.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I think a lot of people deal with today. I'm
willing or not willing to make that. I guess change
cause it's just.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
I don't want to do it. Like remember when we
worked at ESPN. I know a lot of companies do it.
They all revolve around Slack, Slack and Microsoft teams and
things like that. It's become such a way of the
work world. You know a guy like me who just
wants to get on the mic and rip it and
rip the mic on the daily. I don't want to

(33:29):
get involved in slack.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
People like, do you have the slack? I'm like, nah, dude,
and I don't want to either.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
So like, I do understand where Rogers is coming from,
but there's no better way to date yourself and get
left behind.

Speaker 5 (33:41):
Agreed. I'm right there with you. I wish I didn't
have the same example as you.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I have others to reference, But you're so right if
you're a guy that's not into the administrative stuff. When
we get a call and it's like, hey, sales wants
you guys to hop on a there's a team's caller. Hey,
I put the info on the introt at the slack,
You're right there. We sent out the Google doc with this.

Speaker 5 (34:02):
It's like, I don't like he just text me or something.

Speaker 6 (34:06):
Yeah, Rich, go to your one drive account. Rich, I
can't do it. You wouldn't even know.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
How to get into our one drive the other day,
so the bus set me up, he said, he said,
can you do that?

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (34:16):
You know those courses like that you have to do
in every company, like hey, you're due for your annual
uh you know sexual harassment or training courses like HR testing,
Like does HR test.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
He's like, yeah, can you go do that? I'm like, yeah,
let me figure out how to even get on that mail. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
By the way, speaking of which, I feel like sometimes
I prefer the old school AOL days. We're gonna talk
about that later because there's another story about some old
school stuff. But yeah, Aaron Rodgers decides he does not
want to wear the new helmet.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
But he's realize, like he never really talks about how
it restricts his vision or how it just feels uncomfortable.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
It's the aesthetic of it. It's how it looks like
a spaceship. I don't like it. And again, the way
he looks is so old. It's more of a style preference.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
It's like you refusing to wear whatever gene cut is
in right now, you know, but this is safety involved,
and I think there's a lot of people listening to that.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
We're just unwilling to advance.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Like there's dudes that still wear Adam Sandler super huge
basketball shorts, no fence to the sammon.

Speaker 5 (35:30):
You should you shouldn't be rocking shorts below your knee.
Come on, what do we doing?

Speaker 6 (35:34):
It dates you? It just does?

Speaker 4 (35:36):
It leaves you behind. Yeah, let me ask you.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
In all sports, what are those indicators where it's like, yo,
that's an old school veteran. I In baseball, I think
it's a guy that doesn't have a lot of the
gear when he's in the batter's box, like the old
school veteran that doesn't have a lot of elbow guards
and ankle guards and wristbands. And there's some guys that

(35:59):
still rock out in the A me Cavino is the
baseball player that didn't have the ear, the ear on
the helmet like I pitch like Dave Winfielder, Keith Nandez
or one of those dudes with they just are.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
Like the cap like the baseball big giant ice cream helmet. True.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
True.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
So hey, we'll take your feedback. Aaron Rodgers with the helmet,
and we got a bunch to get to. We'll do
Midweek Major and Mike's Words of Wisdom and of course
more NFL as we are twenty three days away. More

(37:18):
We do it every Wednesday on our show five to

Everything at Covino and Rich. Now we're talking about being
that guy, like, respectfully, my uncle Joe, who was the
last guy I think on planet Earth to evolve from
a flip phone to a smartphone, because he was just
reluctant and couldn't move forward, and you get stuck in

(37:40):
your rut, and you know, you get left behind in
life as a result. And that's what Aaron Rodgers is
sort of dealing with with this helmet. Been rocking the
same one for twenty years.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah, he had a good run.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Hey, it's you know, sometimes you gotta hand in the equipment.
It's like having an old ass car and you're like, yeah,
but works, I still want to use it. And then
you get a new car and you're like, oh, I'm
telling you Uncle Joe. He bust out a flip phone.
He had like a little leather plastic protector over it
and he would slap and go, bait this one here,
best phone ever. I'm like, no, it's not. He got

(38:15):
it together with duct tape. It's not that it takes
the worst photos ever smart ever? Has he bought extra
ones just in case and like it's like embarrassing. It
is like well, he's okay now, but I'm saying, and
that's the thing. You realize after a while, you realize,
you know what, why did I wait so long?

Speaker 4 (38:35):
You're right? It is better with the new way, best one.
Not always, but most of the time.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
I'm glad your uncle Joe is sticking to his star
Tech instead of the new iPhone. That's a good, good,
good plan, Uncle John. But Aaron Rodgers, you know, crappy
old helmet or adjusting to the new one. I think
his story in Pittsburgh's gonna be one that even though
guys like Danny g are like sucker hear about Aaron Rodgers,
I feel like it's gonna be a great story all

(39:00):
year because I don't know, man, I think I think
the days of the Steelers being eight and nine or
nine and eight are done. I think they're either gonna
be surprisingly awesome or suck like. I think you're gonna
see a hell of a lot of sucker awesome. I
don't think Aaron Rodgers in this team. I think there's
an implosion or success. I don't think it's in between

(39:21):
this year. I just can't see it being another like
nine and eight or eight nine season. Did you see
that meme that's been flowing around Danny g It was
every team's best and worst scenarios this year, and it
was like, uh, seventeen to zero or ZH to seventeen,
and for the for the Pittsburgh Steelers, like best scenario
nine to eight, worst scenario eight and nine. Like it's

(39:44):
such a sentiment that this team is every year good
enough but not really good but rich. That's why if
you want to get ten wins this year and really
step up and go out on a high note, right,
Aaron Rodgers has to redeem himself in a lot of
ways in a playoffs. This is the last thing, the
last thing he should be worried about, Like, hey, make
a decision. I know there's a lot of options, and

(40:05):
I know you're really stuck on your old school helmet.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
Pick one and move forward.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Because nothing screams old guy when you're unwilling to just
make this simple change.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
And no one wants to hear that right now.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
We want to hear about you know you're moving forward
and getting into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Well, there's a couple stories I want to get to
in a second, and you know, you could argue it
has to do with old guys and uh, you know,
old guy thoughts.

Speaker 5 (40:30):
But let's say what's up to Travis and Chatsworth. We'll
take a couple of phone calls. What's up Trav?

Speaker 6 (40:36):
Hey, rich I just wanted to check in on your
mosquito bites.

Speaker 8 (40:39):
I couldn't sleep.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
You're worried about me? I know, how can you know?
I'm feeling okay today? I'm feeling okay today?

Speaker 4 (40:46):
What a relief man.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Yeah, that's called the day, Travis. Thank you our buddy
Trip in Vegas. What's up Trip?

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Good to hear you all for three hours.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
Thanks my boy Danny G.

Speaker 6 (41:00):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
I hope he's successful and he's great.

Speaker 7 (41:04):
I'm just tired of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Yeah, you know what, it's also a feeling that you understand,
like we all have those feelings, but nothing screams you're
the old guy and the game is passing you by.
Than complaining like this, we all have to catch ourselves
when we complain about the new technology at work, the
new system, the new ways, the new routines, because that's

(41:30):
why people move on and find a younger guy and
pay them less.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Because you're complaining and unwilling to just move forward.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
Well, can I feel can make you feel like an
old guy for a second?

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Sure, because there's actually three stories, two of which two
of which I'm gonna I'm gonna get to next, and
they're coming of age stories of like wow, and it'll
tell you can tell by how you answer this whether
or not you're an old guy or a young guy.
But let me tell you one of them right now.

(42:01):
There's a product that's been ninety nine cents forever and
they're saying.

Speaker 5 (42:05):
No longer could be the case.

Speaker 4 (42:07):
Oh wow, So I'll explain that.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
And a bunch more, a lot of NFL, a little
baseball more could be no rich next
