Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome to July and The Dan Patrick Show. Gangzol Here,
the Minister of Humor, Seaton, Marv Pauliers, truly in the
back room, guys. Former Steeler head coach Hall of Famer
Bill Kauer. A little bit later on, we'll check in
with the ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks. He'll join
us a little bit later on as well. NBA free agency. Now,

(00:25):
there wasn't a big deal, A major deal that you
know sometimes will overshadow the smaller deals. What happened yesterday
was kind of the Hall of Good. Now that could
be h a L L or h a U L
the Hall of Good, depending on it. Beyond thank you, Seaton,
Hall of Good. Todd you with us today, Just don't

(00:47):
be afraid to acknowledge.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Ninety seconds into the show, I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
What I was supposed to say in the first ninety
What am I missing?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Like a courtesy laugh or bloop or a long way
to go?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
You got two hours and fifty minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Of hjul the Hall of Good? Okay, Wow, it's gonna
be like that.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
I'll let you know when I hear something that floats
my boat.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Pinnini America,
the official trading cards of this godforsaken program h eight
seven seven to three. DP Show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle at DP show, Good morning. If you're watching
on Peacock, that's our streaming partner. You get to see
the look that I had on my face when Fritzy
did that to me. This first hour brought to you

(01:35):
by Rapid Radios, official walkie talkie of the DP Show.
Push to Talk service, national LTE coverage, no subscriptions ever,
get them before bad weather occurs. Visit Rapid Radios dot
com for up to sixty percent off and free shifting
pull question Play the Day, stat of the Day, all
of that forthcoming. So a lot of moves, but nothing

(01:55):
that's probably headline worthy, you know. Michael Porter Junior the
third leaves the nugget. He goes to the nets, and
while they get a little older, they do free up
some money. Cam Johnson comes from the nets. Similar stats,
but Johnson makes I think about seventeen million less than
Michael Porter Junior the third. So this is the start

(02:18):
of I think another move for the Denver Nuggets. They
bring back Bruce Brown, who was one of the instrumental
players on that championship team. A couple of years ago.
The MAVs added di'angelo Russell. This is basically a rental
for a year a half a year with Kyrie Irving
being out Clippers Ad Brook Lopez. Now, you gotta be

(02:40):
careful when you say, oh, they got a big man.
He's a tall man. I don't know if he plays
necessarily like a big man. He became a very very
good three point shooter, and he does block shots on
the defensive end. He does as opposed to blocking shots
on the offensive end. Dan, You're right, you got me there.
The Hawks are The Hawks are sneaky man. Hawks are

(03:03):
getting deeper and I my Hawks are playing you know
they're they're playing for keeps now. The East is wide open.
I mean, if you're the Hawks, go all in.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
There's injuries there, so let's see maybe you can get
back to the Eastern Conference finals. The Rockets. The Rockets
are all in as well. Big loss for the Lakers.
Dorian Finney Smith. They get him more more depth there.
I like what they're doing. I like what they're doing

(03:35):
so we'll talk a little bit more about that. With
free agency coming up eight seven to seven, three DP Show,
we'll settle on a pole question and once again we'll
have our play of the day coming up as well.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Seaton, what's pole question? We're going to go with first
hour of the program, Best day yesterday.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, others, Stealers, Rockets, Hawks, others.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I'd say the Steelers. It feels like, I mean, I
don't like giving up Mika Fitzpatrick. Jalen Ramsey's thirty four,
John new Smith, he had a really good year last year.
But you already have a tight end. Can you have

(04:29):
enough tight ends? How old is Jalen Ramsey? Paul, he
will be thirty one when this thirty one? Okay, So
he's thirty one, Okay, He's gonna be going against the
Bengals T. Higgins and Jamar Chase twice during the year. Okay,

(04:52):
this already was the secondary that wasn't very good. I
think they were like twenty fifth in past defense. Then
you got what the TJ. Watt situation as well. That's
kind of just hanging there. At what point do you
say we're at an impasse.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
And we won't be able to do anything here.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
At what point do you say, do we want to
give him forty million dollars a year? He's got one
more year left and then he becomes an unrestricted free agent?
What can you get for him? Would you dare trade
TJ Watt? What if you now won't happen. But I
was just wondering this. How about the Bengals and Steelers

(05:34):
make a trade that Steelers get Trey Hendrickson and then
their first round pick Stuart who I think is still unsigned.
So now I got two edge rushers. Maybe Hendrickson cost
me thirty million a year, and then I get my
first round pick in Now I got a couple of
edge rushers there, and the Bengals then pay for TJ.

(05:54):
Watt They give him forty million dollars. I'll hang up
and listen. Yes, Pony, that does fix everything. But the
Bengals and Steelers aren't going to make him.

Speaker 7 (06:04):
But if you both win a trade, you can trade
in the division.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yes, I guess ish, I don't know, but I would
you know.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
We'll ask Bill Kauer about this.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
At you know, at what point do you say, can
you just have him play out this year and then
you're going to lose him or risk losing him. You're
all in on this year, this trade bringing Ramsey in
Smith in, you got you know, Aaron Rodgers obviously, and
DK Metcalf the movie like this is it?

Speaker 3 (06:36):
But is it? You're all in if you don't have
t J. Watt in.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So I would say the Steelers did pretty well yesterday
because when the when the trade was announced, it was
Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Steelers. Then all of
a sudden, Chefty filled in you know the other stuff,
and that is making Fitzpatrick gonna go to the Dolphins,
and then you're also getting another weapon for Aaron Rodgers.
And John new Smith felt like that was a win,

(07:06):
at least a temporary win for the Steelers. What other
players anything else? And you got teams in there, players
in there, any other poll questions there.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
Yeah, Nikola Jokic had a pretty good day yesterday too.
Actually yeah, I think so, Sneaky Seki good day. Maybe
not as good as those other teams, But the Nuggets
did a couple of things that.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Felt like they wanted to get rid of Michael Porter Junior.
They did, Yeah, they did look like it. By the way,
the best odds according to DraftKings MVP Joker plus two hundred,
SGA plus two fifty, then it's Gianni's plus seven hundred,
and then it's my pick Luca plus eight hundred than
Anthony Edwards, and then Victor win. Binyana SGA is going

(07:47):
to have a hard time going back to back. There'll
be a little voter fatigue there. Maybe you'll see something
different from Joker, although it be tough to ask him
to be better than he was last year, which was
statistically the best season of his careeris you know, Yannis
put up the unbelievable numbers last year, but he just

(08:07):
kind of graduated to that.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah, I know, like the yeah, I know, Hey I.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Averaged you know, thirty twelve and you know three blocks.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
But I think Luca, this is this is Luca's year,
and I think because he'll come back, he'll be in
better shape. And I think it opens the door that
Joker's already won his MVPs.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
SGA just won it.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Jannis has a couple Now it feels like this is
Luca's year to win it. Then after that they're going
to be like you know what's wrong. You're ever gonna
win an MVP. You know, you win the MVP, then
they want to know when you're gonna win a title.
He already went to the NBA Finals, hasn't won an MVP,
But I do think it's his year. If I'm looking

(08:54):
at the odds here plus eight hundred for Luca, I'd
probably put a dollar on that. But honest could be
a comeback story of sorts for a team that will
probably be trying to become an overachiever.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Here.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Maybe puts up even crazier numbers there. Wemby's gonna put
up great numbers. I don't think they're ready for him yet.
Anthony Edwards, Yeah, good numbers. I don't think MVP numbers. Yes,
Marvin is Luca the Josh Allen of the NBA. Yeah,

(09:29):
I think you could look at him and say when
are you going to graduate? And then Josh Allen finally
won the MV pick. Josh Allen hasn't been in a
Super Bowl. Luca's at least gone to the NBA Finals.
But yeah, you could say that, and there's no reason
why he can't win the MV pick. But it's still
tricky with the whole Lebron situation of and their odds

(09:50):
improved by the way, the Lakers odds got better.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I think it was.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Let me see, I have it here. They're title odds
moved to plus thirteen hundred. It was plus fifteen hundred,
so you know, maybe it's around the same, although they
no let me let me read it correctly. Lakers' title

(10:17):
odds move from plus thirteen to plus fifteen hundred, so
they got worse.

Speaker 7 (10:22):
Huh okay, Dorian Finnie effect.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yes, apparently, well are you going to get a big
man here? And we're looking at what everybody else is doing,
certainly what Houston is doing, and they were the number
two seed Denver making a couple of moves here, they're
teams making moves and the Lakers aren't one of them.
Your move is okay, we just lost Dorian Finney Smith

(10:47):
and then Luca got in shape.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
We don't have a big man yet. Did we improve
right now?

Speaker 2 (10:57):
No? But I don't know what move you're going to make.
And it felt like there was more speculation yesterday after
the show. Could they trade Lebron? Could they you know, well,
Lebron's got a no trade. And the thing I keep
coming back to and I don't think they're trading Lebron.
It felt like it was just, hey, let's speculate on

(11:19):
what if Lebron goes to Cleveland. Okay, if I'm Lebron,
I've already said I'm not about chasing titles. It's not
about titles. You know, you don't have to win. You know,
the guy who has the most title. I'm paraphrasing him,
but it's basically it's not necessarily about titles. Well it is,
but he's not going to catch Michael. But let's say

(11:39):
he would say, trade me to Cleveland. Okay, what's Cleveland
have to give up to get him? If you're Lebron,
don't you if you wanted to do something, you leave,
You don't opt back in because you're going to take
away players from the team you're going to. He's he's
not going to Cleveland for a year. Can't see it

(12:01):
happening now next year. Maybe Let's see what happens this
year when he gets a healthy dose of this is
Luca's team. Now I have to compliment him and see
how that plays out. But I can't see him being traded.
Somebody suggested to me yesterday Now this is somebody who

(12:24):
works with the team said, could you see Lebron on
the Knicks? And I go, what year is this? They
can't even find a coach yet could you see him?
And what if he led them to a title? I go, Okay,
is he at the Boys and Girls Club in Greenwich, Connecticut?
Ready to make the decision? Okay? Not now, he's not.

(12:47):
He's not up, he's not moving. He's got his son,
He's not moving.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
This is it.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Just can't imagine he's going to go. You know, I'm
gonna leave and I'm going to now. Granted, the easter
is open, wide open for at least a year, but
I can't see that happening once again late June, early July.
It's really dangerous in this business. We're like, what are
we talking about today? How about DA's legacy? How shoor

(13:18):
Sanders driving?

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (13:21):
Fully, I went back and looked at the stats. Last year,
Luca averaged twenty eight points, eight rebounds, seven and a
half assists. And you're talking about taking Giannis for granted,
Giannis averaged thirty one points, twelve rebounds, seven assists, and
a block and a half. Those are incredible numbers. His
numbers are haven't dipped in any way. His scoring numbers

(13:41):
have steadily gone up since twenty nineteen. He doesn't shoot
threes anymore. He's shooting threes at his lowest rate of
his entire career.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
For a guy who can't shoot, I mean, he's the
ultimate score. He's done a good shooter. And I kept thinking,
if he ever gets that fifteen foot jump shot, he'll
average whatever he wants to average, because to me, you know,
he's he's Wemby before Wemby. I mean he came along
and you're like, oh my gosh, we haven't seen anybody

(14:10):
like that. I thought Anthony Davis would be more like Yannis,
and that's never going to materialize. But you look at
what Yannis does and how he does it, not on
a good team. You know what he's going to do then,
to have too many signature moves there, Yes, Martin, so.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Was Wemby the super freak?

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Oh okay, he could be. He could be Todd super freak.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
He's a very kinky.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Call.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
You don't bring him to Manda.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Hiz show started? Yeah, oh.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Delayed. I just pressed the the button.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Marvin knows what I have to deal.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
With here, that's how it's going to be today.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
Yes, Paul, Wow, real quick before we break, Luca, I'm sorry, Yannis.
The past three seasons thirty plus points, eleven plus rebounds,
three years in a row. Do you think anyone else
has ever done that in the modern era? Eighties on
not the.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Kareem days gone thirty and eleven, eleven eleven, eleven, thirty
and eleven, three years in a row. We're checking.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
All right, We'll take it break, we'll settle on our
poll question Bill Kauer in an hour from now, and
we'll talk to Bobby Mark's the front office insider for
the Mothership.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
He'll join us as well. Just getting started back after this.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
NBA title odds for next season, it's the Thunder a
wide margin over the second favorite, the Rockets. So the
Thunder plus two twenty five the Rockets plus seven fifty
Calves plus eight fifty same as the Knicks. Then it's
the Nuggets, the Timberwolves, and then the Lakers. Joker is
your favorite slight favorite over SGA to win the MVP

(16:40):
next year, follow by Giannis Luca and Anthony Edwards in
Victor Win.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Ben Yama a.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Couple of things about the Pittsburgh Steelers when you think
about how they've operated, they operate like a small market franchise.
They draft well, they keep their coaches, they have consistency,
respectable win totals, playoff of peer yeerrences, the culture of stability,
all of those great things. But in the last decade
that also defined their ceiling. That ceiling just got smashed.

(17:10):
It feels like the last couple of days because you
got Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, John hu Smith.
This is a different stealer approach here, and it felt
like and feels like they needed to do this because
Baltimore's better. Cincinnati is going to have a very interesting
offense to deal with. The Browns are not going to

(17:31):
get it right anytime soon. But you're thinking about more
than just your division. This is a team that wins,
a franchise that wins championships. You can't even win a
playoff game. So you bring in these players and you
still have TJ. Watt with one more year on his deal.
He's the same age as Aaron Donald was Van Donald

(17:52):
got his contract extension, but he won a Super Bowl
was he was the best player, best defensive in the league.
So Rogers is forty. Ramsey's health is a question and
they have got some big money gambles here and you
pulled off a trade like this could be worth It

(18:13):
could be fun. I mean it's going to be fun.
It'll be interesting, But the question is can you make
the playoffs? Can you win games when you get to
the playoffs, Like it's weird to say. The goal is, hey,
let's get to the playoffs and win a playoff game.
But really that's where your goal should start, because everybody's
goal is to win the Super Bowl. But you got

(18:34):
to be realistic here. Can we win? Can we get
to eleven wins? Can we get a first round of
home game? Can we go on a run? Can Aaron
stay healthy?

Speaker 3 (18:48):
TJ? Watch Watt's situation.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Jalen Ramsey, you got Darius Slay who's thirty four years
of age trying to chase down Jamar Chase.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I know, yeah, Pauling.

Speaker 7 (19:01):
It feels like possibly the Steelers management has heard the criticism.
Maybe the national criticism has joined in with the local
criticism because they're one of the least criticized franchises in
sports nationally.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Nationally, locally they do.

Speaker 7 (19:15):
Locally, they're frustrated, but you know, you don't get the
Hall pass forever. And it feels like this is very reactionary,
maybe in a good way by the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah, but you're still the TJ. Wats situation.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Do you want to spend that give him forty million dollars,
but you got one more year and then if you're
going to add to that, or are you going to
give him three years? One hundred and twenty million, one
hundred and twenty five million dollars. Do you want to
do that? What's your option? Trey Hendrickson has better sack

(19:45):
numbers than TJ. Watt recently. But Trey Hendrickson, I don't
know what you know. It's the Bengals dealing with the
Bengals trying to get a contract extension or get money.
You know, you you think that you've earned the money
that would be coming to you. They don't want to
pay you for what you did. They want to pay

(20:06):
you for what they think you'll do. And this is
the hard part for Trey Hendrickson. It's like, look what
I did, and the Bengals are like, yeah, we know,
can you do that? Continue to do that? And once
he got thirty five sacks over the last two years, Okay,
I did my job. But management's be like, okay, now

(20:27):
what are you going to do for us? Do you
want to pay for what you think they're going to do?
NBA is different, feels like all right, you put up
some good numbers.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Here you go.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
By the way, Jared Jackson Junior the third got paid
by the Grizzlies. I really I thought he was going
to be the best player in this draft. I did,
and he might turn out to be. You know, I'm
holding out. I'm playing the long game here. Is he
going to be better than Luca in the Hall or
Trey Young? But he got paid and it feels like,

(21:01):
you know, Memphis is sort of eh mid They went
from being kind of the cool kids and then all
of a sudden, mid n everybody else is moving. Feels
like everybody's moving doing something. Now you want to keep
Jaron Jackson junior. He's a very good player on both

(21:23):
ends of the floor, Yes, Paul.

Speaker 7 (21:26):
Yeah, he's been First Team All Defense a couple of times.
He's also twenty five years old, averages twenty three, five
and five. You're going to get paid.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
That's okay.

Speaker 7 (21:35):
It's the window of time. Like if TJ. Watt we're
twenty seven, he'd get the biggest contract in defensive end history.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
He'd be Crosby.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
But when you're thirty to thirty one, it just changes
your window a little bit.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Yeah, I mean his numbers were good last What do
you have eleven and a half sacks last year?

Speaker 7 (21:52):
He did lead the league in forced fumbles as well.
That's a big one.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Okay, I like hurries. I like hurries.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
That's why I love Max Crosby because if you're hurrying
the quarterback, you're in the backfield a lot, and you
might get twelve sacks, but if you get twenty one hurries,
that to me affects the game more well, at least
in my opinion, that guy is constantly in the backfield.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Yes, hurries is not an official NFL stat yet. There's
a bunch of stat sites. Yes, that habit, but it's
not on the Football Reference. Would you be in favor
of making.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Yes, yes, because I have so many causes right to hurry.

Speaker 7 (22:37):
You could be mister hurry, I.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Think, But I don't know what denotes a hurry, Like
how do you how do you decide what's a hurry? Checking,
So the language would would be a little tougher in
trying to figure that out. It's like, oh, oh golly, yeah,
that's a hurt. No, No, he didn't get there long.

Speaker 8 (23:00):
You know.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
It's like when you're trying to pin somebody in wrestling.
Uh no, that'snug didn't pin him. Oh that's not a hurry.
Max Crosby has to lead the league in hurries. I
have it for twenty twenty four, and he did. Okay,
they're still maybe this starts, still put it together for
twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Five, checking well, wait isn't this twenty twenty five?

Speaker 7 (23:21):
Going back to that, they don't have it for last season,
they have it for the previous season. Max Crosby led
the league in hurry, So twenty three twenty four.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
He led in hurries.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Okay, so the twenty four to twenty five season, we
don't have what are they waiting around for?

Speaker 3 (23:36):
But like, really, yes, tod, I see some good.

Speaker 9 (23:41):
Words sound about the definition of a hurry, but it
does not speak to the fact that how you time
that exactly, And it seems like a very subjective thing
that an official or someone keeping the books would have
to come up with.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Thank you, ton See. Do you have a poll question?
Do you have a poll question today?

Speaker 6 (23:58):
Yeah, we got one up there right now? Better day
yesterday or best day yesterday?

Speaker 3 (24:04):
All right? Steelers Rockets, Hawks?

Speaker 4 (24:08):
Right now?

Speaker 6 (24:08):
The Rockets got about forty eight percent of that vote,
Hawks and Steelers about twenty five ish each.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Maybe I just liked that there was a big trade
in the NFL that normally you don't get those big
moves and here at the end of June as well,
we knew Ramsey was going to be traded.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
I thought he was going to go back to the Rams.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
But you know, give credit to Pittsburgh, they really wanted him.
But you have to give up Mika Fitzpatrick. But you
also get another tight end in the process. Yes, eon JOHNA.
Smith has been on like nine teams and eighty years something.
I know, as much as we want to go, hey,
they got a really good tight end. He had a
really good year last year. I don't know if he's

(24:47):
a really good tight end, but I know he had
a really good year.

Speaker 7 (24:51):
Yes, Paul, all right, I have Max Crosby did that
was the fourth in the league last year in hurries.
According to one stat site, Micah Parsons is up there,
Miles Garrett is.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Up there, Watt is up there, all the usual.

Speaker 7 (25:05):
Okay, still not an official stat with the NFL.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
I know, yeah, but they didn't have sas as an
official stat until what nineteen eighty two.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Don't you think they could go back.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
All the films NFL films come on, because you're gonna
find like with Wilt Chamberlain's block shots or Bill Russell's
block shots where they average probably nine or ten a game.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
You know it's going to change the record books.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
You're gonna go back and you're gonna see Deacon Jones
with the Rams and you're gonna go, oh my god,
that guy probably had three hundred sacks back when you
weren't throwing the ball, you know, twenty five, thirty thirty
five times. You'd think the NFL, of all these leagues,
would have the data there, the archival footage to be
able to do that.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Eric in Cincinnati, Hi, Eric, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (25:57):
Hey, damn huge Cincinnati Bengals fan. Here the Tray. You
mentioned something earlier on the show about the Tray and
TJ Watt situation. Yeah, I would trade Tray all day
for TJ. Two different players. Trey gets the sacks done,
but TJ you almost play him anywhere outside linebacker. Trey's
not going to do that, and for the money, Tray's

(26:18):
a little bit older, so the back end of the contract.
I would take that trade all day being a Cincinnati
Bengals fan.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Oh yeah, but you're not getting that straight up. Pittsburgh's
not going to trade t J.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Watt.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
I'm just saying if they threw in Stuart their first
round pick. Is he still out of camp? Get out
of Texas A and m Schamar Stewart. Remember he said
he wasn't going to show up.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
At he left the OTAs and then the camp is
in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
So yeah, yeah, I mean Cincinnati Snake. Yeah, if I'm
a Bengal fan, you get t J. Watt for Trey Hendricks,
and of course you'd take that. I'm saying you could
throw in Stuart in this now of a sudden. At
least you have a conversation. You can save money, but
it's not going to happen. I'm just throwing it out
there of who is going to give you enough to

(27:09):
trade for TJ.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Watt?

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Do you really want to trade him? And how much
are you willing to pay him? Because it feels like
with one year left, is he going to want three
years after that? And we know with the end you know,
with the contracts in the NFL, it's not like you
know this is all guaranteed the way it is with
NBA midjor league baseball. But do you want to sign

(27:34):
him up for this year and then three years after that,
which would put him at around thirty five thirty six.
That's sound about right, PAULI exactly, yes, Okay, let's see
what else do we sa?

Speaker 7 (27:48):
I have a little bit here on Deacon Jones. They
tried to go back and look the NFL Hall of
Fame and the NFL films went back and they tried
their best to look at his Deacon Jones, the great
sixties stack leader and half sex, and they said he'd
probably at two hundred and forty five sacks rough estimate,
which would may make him by far number one of
all time. They also found out the origin of the

(28:09):
word sack was during a production meeting with a Cowboys
Rams game in the six late seventies and they were
talking to Merlin Olsen of the Rams and he was
talking about tackling the quarterback for a loss, and he's
talking about Craig Morton, the quarterback of the Cowboys at
the time. He said, we're going to take Morton pour
him into a sack, and they laughed about it, and

(28:31):
the term was used on the broadcast the next week,
and that's they think is the way the term was born.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
And Merlin Olsen was on the Fears and Forsome with
Deacon Jack correct became a great broadcaster many many many
years with dick Enberg.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Yep, hey John in Oregon. Hi John, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 5 (28:54):
Hey Dad?

Speaker 10 (28:55):
Actually the call?

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Hey we were talking. You were just talking about how
to con I a defender, you know, kind of rushing
the quarterback, and one way to do that would be
to once the defender gets past the offensive blocker, as
long as the quarterback still has the ball. That would
be one way to quantify it.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah, you know there, I'm looking at this breakdown. It
says if you hurry the passer to an inaccurate or
incomplete pass, the quarterback moves off their spot in the puck.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
You know.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
This to me is we're going to add more language
to this and make it even worse. Maybe we shouldn't
have hurry, says a stat Yes, point.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Isn't this?

Speaker 7 (29:43):
I know it when I see it. If I'm watching
Joe Burrow go back, he sets up and Max Crosby
comes in and Joe has to pull the ball down
and move, that would should count as a hurry.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
I guess I see. The NFL never simplifies. They're going
to add language to this. Yes, see, the NFL is
not a I know it when I see it.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
League.

Speaker 6 (30:08):
If it was, then catches wouldn't be a problem. They're not,
And I know it when I see it. They're a
It has to fit check down these five boxes in
order for it to be the thing we all think
it is.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Do I dare ask Fretzy to email the NFL?

Speaker 4 (30:24):
I already did.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Oh my god, I was hesitant to do that.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
I have a funing. I'm gonna get at a much
slow news day.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
You can you can you give me tell me what
you said in the email?

Speaker 4 (30:36):
All right, good morning.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
They're an official NFL definition for a hurry.

Speaker 9 (30:41):
How much discussion has there been to make the hurry
and official NFL stat and how subjective might that be.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
To determine what constitutes a hurry? For the record books
we were talking about.

Speaker 8 (30:49):
T J.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Watt, Trey Hendrickson and others. Appreciate it. Thank you for
your time.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
You imagine you walk into the office, you got your coffee,
you got there at nine in the morning, all of
a sudden turn on your computer.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Easy day here, Yeah, oh, Todd Fritz click on that.
Yeah right.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
The amount of people who just look at their inbox
and see but you know the crazy part isn't that
it's the NFL doing that, it's probably two dozen other
people also doing it from a million other requests Todd
has made this morning already.

Speaker 9 (31:25):
Including the guys that actually work with here every day.
They're going to imagine the people on the outside. They're
ready to go delete it a quick skim at this.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Maybe Jason in Trinity, Hi, Jason.

Speaker 11 (31:40):
Good morning guys, how you doing good? Just wanted to
talk a little bit about the way they search for
NBA players to give the bag to. And it's kind
of weird. How you know, back in the eighties, nineties
and two thousands, you would have your star player, maybe
one or two on a team.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Those guys get paid. The rest of.

Speaker 11 (31:59):
Them they take the minimums or whatever. And now it
seems to where they're giving the bag away. And the
commissioner says that the WNBA is a deficit. Well, how
do you have three new teams coming when you're running
a deficit? So where are we going? And how can
they afford to sustain business and do this? I mean,

(32:22):
are these streaming deals that good to where they can
just you know, create three new teams in two years time?

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Yeah, the WNBA is going to expand. But I think
they're expanding in one city and then it's going to
be a couple of cities after that a couple of
years down the road. And I'm you know, they already
have the financial pie. It feels like split up here.
You know, these leagues don't want to bring in another

(32:49):
team and have to share, just like the NBA. They're
going to talk about expansion. Well that huge TV deal
or the TV deals they sign. Now you do have
to spend money the expansion fee to get in, but
these owners don't like it when they have to divvy
up the pie. But Detroit is going to add and
I think they're trying to add WNBA teams in cities

(33:11):
where you have NBA teams, So therefore you already have
an arena to use.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
Yeah, Saton. That is one of those weird things too
that happens in business all the time, where a company
is not profitable, they operate at a deficit, and they're
like the hottest stock on the stock market, like on
some bed company or like you know this ah the
stationary bike thing. It's like they haven't made money ever,
but I'm buying how are you what? And you're expanding

(33:37):
and you've never made any money.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Wow, Why, well, you have the Gretzky effect on the
NHL that you probably had teams that weren't making a profit,
but cities wanted to have a hockey team. Maybe Beckham
as well that you're going, hey, we want to have
our team, and then you operate at a deficit. I'm
sure there's all kinds of tax breaks there as well.

(33:59):
I don't like anybody buys a team and loses money.
It's really hard to do that. But WNBA is going
to expand. Let's see, Fritzi just sent me so Toronto
twenty twenty six, Portland twenty twenty six, Cleveland twenty twenty eight,
Detroit twenty twenty nine, Philadelphia twenty thirty.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Yes, Marvin, and.

Speaker 9 (34:19):
I love that fact that Cleveland and Detroit already had
WNBA teams.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Yes, and they got rid of them.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Now, all right, we'll bring you guys back.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, gues Don And what takes.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Five years for Philadelphia to get the team together?

Speaker 9 (34:32):
Maybe I don't understand how complicated is to get in
an organization going.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
I don't know, if you just want to kind of
spread it out a little bit there. I'm sure they
have a business. You know, they have a PowerPoint presentation
here to tell you all the But it's the Caitlin
Clark effect. Like it's just like Gretzky. Gretzky came to
LA and then all of a sudden, the United States,

(34:57):
Southern States, they wanted to have their own team because
he win. That's the same thing with Caitlin Clark. Yes,
Bom Yeah. Beckhams a good example. They were There's thirteen
teams in MLS when he arrived. Now I think there's
over twenty five.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
All right, we'll take a break. Play the day up next.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

of the day.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
Check this out.

Speaker 12 (35:34):
Hye, right way back there toward the tribes on freedom
racing back. It's gonna be off them. That's gonna keep
putting in the morning time. Here comes my ring. He's
trying to start the Pure Store.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Four.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
That's courtesy of Nessen Obray, who is the sixth player
in baseball history to hit a Grand Slam and also
hit an inside the park home run in the same game.
The last player to do it Roger Marris in nineteen
fifty eight. I didn't remember Roger Marris being fleet of
foot there but a grand Slam and an inside the

(36:22):
park home run.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
He's in good company, Thanks Todd.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
We love to say people are a good company.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
It's our play of the Day, brought to you by Maco.
Most cars on the road could use a little TLC
that bring your car back to life. Affordable paint chomps
like collision repairs. Get a free estimate today, Oh better
get Maco our good buddy, the Big Dumper Cal Rawley
did it again, thirty three home runs. Now only two
players have hit more home runs through the end of

(36:52):
June than the Big Dumper, Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire.
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program.

Speaker 9 (37:12):
Yes him, because I mean the Big Dumper has got
a drug test waiting for him at the end of
the fifth inning and an upcoming game.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Can you say that the guy who is the cleanest
to hit this many home runs before the end of June.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Because Bonds and McGuire are both under suspicion.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
I think we've got to put that little thing in there.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Yeah, but then you never know. I hope cal Rawley,
the big dumper is clean here. I think the Giants
are going to erect a Barry Bond's statue.

Speaker 7 (37:41):
Yes they are, they announced it. Let me see when
it's happening.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Okay, They've got a few statues. They might lead the
league in statues, don't they have like Marochelle and Sipada
and Bonds and Maize.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yes, the Lakers have a few statues. Also, do they
have more statues than the Giants? Check it?

Speaker 2 (38:03):
Okay, I remember seeing the Willie May statue right out front.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
What's the name of the stadium? Now? What phone company?
Is it? Pack Bell? Is it Mint? Or at?

Speaker 7 (38:19):
Oracle?

Speaker 9 (38:20):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Oracle? Oh that's right.

Speaker 7 (38:22):
They have five statues right now outside Oracle.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Okay, so you got Mays, McCovey, Sipada, Marshall, Miss Pitcher,
Tim Lincuka, and wild Hair Madison Gaylor Perry. Oh, okay,

(38:46):
that's a prize. Five statues.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
That's a lot. Yes, yes, yes, martman, the.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
La Lakers have six.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Oh all right, it's not a Bonds is going to
be there. So that's six now, yes, point, it's not official.
Bonds is getting a statue. The Giants president on a
radio station said, it's on the radar and he's definitely
deserving of it.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
Yes, and it's not clear when in wh okayen I
got it? Throwback on that one. Thank you, ton.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
I.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
Look, if Giants fans, he's yours and you want to
celebrate him, great, nobody else is, but hey, go ahead,
knock yourself out.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
He's your guy.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Anybody have a problem Giants, you know, given you know,
putting a statue up of Bonds, they already would they
already forgave and probably forget like they don't care.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
It's like, so what, Yes, it's ton.

Speaker 9 (39:56):
I think you were erected at your own asterisk and
see what people reaction are.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Okay, all right, PAULI you have a problem with this?

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Is it necessary?

Speaker 3 (40:07):
I don't know. Do are any statues necessary?

Speaker 7 (40:11):
Well, it's fair to say Barry Bonds did a lot
of great things that are completely under dispute.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Did Pittsburgh give him a statue? Does Bonds have a
statue in Pittsburgh?

Speaker 6 (40:23):
It'd be pretty awesome if they did. Though they were like, hey,
this is the good version. This is like, this is
the version you're allowed to We had him.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yeah, that's what he looked like when he played for us,
And I don't know what you got, but that's what
he looked like.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Does Pittsburgh have a statue out there? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (40:41):
See, I'm becoming more and more of the belief that
no statues are a good idea. Never put statues up,
Never name anything after anybody.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Don't put a name on a building.

Speaker 6 (40:53):
Don't put a name on a building, don't put a
name on a trophy, don't put a name on a statue,
don't build a statue, don't do anything for anybody.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Don't do it. If you want to hang their jersey up, okay,
but other than that, don't do it.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Roberto Clemente, I'm fine with a statue in Pittsburgh or
Willie Starge, I'm fine with that. But you're right, you
put up that statue.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
Who knows? Am I ready to take it down? It
might be one hundred years from now somebody will say,
you know what that guy did? Uh No.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Bill Cower will join us in twenty minutes from now.
