yours truly, and of course the backroom guys, Steve Young.

(00:26):
A little bit later on, Gary Danielson will wrap up
college football been an unbelievable run for him and let
him handicap sort of what he saw and what he
expects for the final four. Albert Breer, the Monday Morning Quarterback,
he'll talk about those fired, those who might be fired,
or those who might be holding on for dear life.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
If you're watching on Peacock or the NBC Sports Network,
Thank you for downloading the app. A lot to try
to navigate through what we saw. You know, go back
to August and if I said, hey, by the way,
these are the final four teams in the college football playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
How about this one?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Uh, Carolina is going to win their division with a
losing record. The Chiefs will be out, the Lions will
be out, the Bengals will be out, the Ravens will
be out. That's why it's so crazy. When you start
to predict, try to predict. You think you got a trend,
a pattern. You think you've figured a team out, and

(01:58):
you have it. Now you got Seattle figured out. I'm
trying to I said that defense is unbelievable. They run
the football. But what's it come down to. Sam Darnold
is going to have to prove to all of this
in a big game. He can play big. Now you
can say that game against San Francisco he played big.
He didn't, his defense did, and his running game did. Okay,

(02:21):
I give you credit, and you didn't have any mistakes.
You're gonna have to win a game. We did this
with Lamar Jackson. We do this with Josh Allen. There
are certain quarterbacks where we go, Okay, prove it. Let
me see what you can do. Big game, Seattle, you
got home field advantage, one of the great home field
advantages in all the sports.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Use it.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
You should go to the super Bowl. But if you
look at that NFC west Man, I can't remember a
division being that dominant against everybody else in the league.
And point differential San Francisco and Seattle unbelievable this year.
But all it takes one of those games. And it

(03:03):
seems like every playoffs we go.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
How did that happen?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Like even look at the Rams are in Carolina, They're
ten point favorites. You know the tech there's probably four teams,
four road teams that could win in the opening rounds
of the playoffs. Here crazy. And then you got the
college football. If I would have said, hey, Indiana's going
to be the team to beat Miami is going to

(03:27):
be in there, Alabama's going to get embarrassed, Georgia's out,
Ohio State's out.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
That's what's great about this. Now, did the College Football
Committee get this right?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Because I know we love to pile on Oh why
do you have those other schools in there?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Tulane?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
And remember we were worried because Tulane got blown out,
James Madison got blown out. Are we concerned about Alabama's future?
Texas Tech future?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
They got blown out?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Wait a minute, I thought just JMU and Tulane got
blown out out. And now you've got a final four
that old miss has a coach who's an interim coach
or he's taken over for a coach who goes and
then wants to take coaches and then loans him back.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
And uh, I want a mess.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
But it's great, it's crazy and it's fun, and I
think it's wide open. If you look at these final
four teams, Indiana, Indiana, Alabama, Alabama, the se seed Alabama,
they're no mistake about that. They dominated them. And even
Kirk kerb Street in the game is saying, basically, Alabama, hello,

(04:37):
where are you? Paul Feinbaum pick up a White courtesy phone.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
What happened.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
But Old Miss is playing well without Lane Kiffin, and
I don't want Lane Kiffin in the booth. I don't
want him showing up taking a victory lap for Old Miss.
Let them have their moment, and I'm glad that he
wasn't there. Let those kids in that coach have their moment.
Not you coming back saying, hey, you see what I

(05:03):
did here, Look at what I build here. While I
go to LSU transfer portal is a mess, but everybody
it feels like it's putting their name in the transfer portal.
There's over four thousand players in the transfer portal at
last count. I mean, it's crazy. I do have a

(05:24):
little bit of information college football from my college football
source just sent this to me prior to the start
of the show, and I'm curious about where we're going
to be next year for the playoffs. My source says
momentum remains towards sixteen team playoff as soon as next season.
The final decision for next season is do two weeks

(05:48):
from this Friday, they will make a have a final
vote on if they're going to have sixteen teams in
the college football playoffs. My source says. Focus also remains
on the automatic qualifier's allocation with the Big ten in
the SEC. They want to have more teams in there
and the Big twelve in the ACC. Logistics and scheduling

(06:09):
matters are also being worked on. So this is fluid
right now with college football, with the playoffs going on,
where we're going to be next season in all indications
are the momentum and even what I was told a
couple of weeks ago there would be a sixteen team playoff,
But I did wonder about this. Did the College Football
Playoff Committee get it right?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Now? Do I think Notre Dame was better than Alabama? Yes?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Do I think they were better than Miami, Yes, but Miami.
Miami was awesome. That defense was unbelievable. That was not
a fluke when you watch that game. I don't know
how good Carson Beck is. Didn't have to be great
in that game. He's going to have to be, you know,
have one of those moments probably, But that defense, they

(06:56):
put some pressure on Ohio State and that was impressive, dominating.
And now you start to handicap this of who you got, well,
I'm rooting for Old Miss for the story. Indiana is
an unbelieve Indiana is one of the great This is
one of the great stories in college football history. Now.
I don't want to go too big and dramatize this

(07:18):
and say it's a miracle on ice, because it's not.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
But it is incredible.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
If you grew up in the Midwest and you that
Indiana was always the team that had zero, it would
be Michigan fifty four, Indiana zero, Ohio State forty four,
Indiana zero. Over a century they accomplished nothing.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
And then in the.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Last two years, you get a coach that any other
school could have had, They get a transfer, you know
who becomes the Heisman Trophy winner. You're winning game. You
go out and beat Oregon like they're winning games. They're physical,
and that's what was impressive. I thought, Okay, they get
a stop, they get a couple of sacks. I'm like,

(08:03):
all right, now we're going to see if Indiana can
be as physical. All of a sudden, it's like that's
one of those where your brother is bigger than you
and he's on top of you and he's beaten you up,
and you go uncle mom. Alabama was calling for mom
because Indiana was not letting up and Mendoza. It was like, uh,

(08:24):
I don't know, I'll throw fifteen passes, run the football,
play good defense.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
That was fun.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
But that's where we try to get into the hot
taker prediction game, and man, does it come back invite you.
But it's been fun, all right, So I have a
poll question coming up Seaton. We'll do the honors there
by the way. Round of applause for the New York Jets. Yeah,
they went the entire season without having an interception. That
selfish five and fifteen pass attempts. The Jets are the

(08:54):
first team in NFL history to go an entire season
without an interception. Once again, round of applaud.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
The day Style of a day, Start to day, stan
a day. This is the style of the Day.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Scat of the.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Day, brought to you by Canini America, the official trading
cards of the program.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Uh oh, we got breaking news.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I told Pauli his job on Black Monday is to
let us know when somebody's been fired.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
I'm enjoying it way too much.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
Okay, all right, we're gonna play guest that firing Dan
reported by Adam Schefter. The Mothership Blank is out as
the blank head coach Rahem Morris already fired before a
show started in Atlanta. Okay, Blank is out as the
blank head coach. I'll give you a hint. He's will
be in high demand for the next job. Kevin, Kevin

(09:57):
Stevanski is out as the Browns head coach. Two time
Coach of the Year.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
See this goes back to front office, the front office,
the ownership, Deshaun Watson. They should take all of the blame.
Kevin Stefanski, you know, was a really good coach. He'll
be in demand. But then you saddle him with two
rookie quarterbacks who aren't starting quarterbacks and spare me the

(10:25):
shador Sanders. Let him down to a field goal range.
He's not threatening there. He's more threatening than Dylan Gabriel.
You know, Watson set this franchise back five years. That's
on the front office there, they're the ones that made
these decisions. Kevin Stefanski didn't draft these quarterbacks either. No,

(10:46):
not surprised, not surprised. But he'll he'll be picked up,
probably as an offensive coordinator. So not surprised at all.
I did think this when I saw what the Falcons did.
I'm not surprised that they fired Raheem Morris. But I
have to go back two years ago and remember when
Arthur Blank was told by people in his front office,

(11:10):
you don't want to hire Bill Belichick. They made the
decision to hire Raheem Morris. So Arthur Blank fires coach
and GM Terry Fontineau and basically saying, all right, I
listened to you guys. Now, I don't know if Belichick,
you know, would have been that much of an upgrade.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
I don't know that.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
But the Michael Pennox draft pick, which I said at
the time, I didn't understand it. I didn't think he
was one of those where you go, oh my god,
somebody let him fall this far good college quarterback two
different places, but injuries there got hurt again this year.
But you have these all these players that you know

(11:52):
you keep waiting for. They're They're the most frustrating team
in the NFL for me because I'm told Vijon Robinson
is the next Kristian McCaffrey. Okay, and he might be,
or Drake London or Kyle Pitts. All right, they got
the nucleus there, and maybe they do, but it just
feels like they kind of go ninety three yards and

(12:13):
kick a field goal, and that doesn't mean they even
make the field goal. But Bijeon is a wonderful player.
He's fun to watch. He should be dominating. He should
be Jamir Gibbs like. But I'm not surprised. But I
did think back those two years ago when they it
was like and you know, Robert Kraft may have played

(12:34):
a role in that by calling Arthur Blank saying, you
don't want this guy now. I wouldn't want Belichick, certainly
with everything going on, and that's two years ago.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Certainly don't want him now. But it feels like ownership.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Listen to the front of course, the front off is
going to try to hold onto their jobs and then
all of a sudden you bring in you know, your coach,
and it cost you, and now you're in the market
for another coach. And there'll be other coaches that will
be fired probably today. There'll probably be some surprises that
those who do keep their jobs as well. John Harbaugh

(13:10):
lost his game last night, had a chance to make
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
They lost in dramatic fashion. And this is how it sounded.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
Tyler Loop from forty four yards season on the line.
Loop's kick is on the way it is it is
no good. He pushed it wide to the right time
has expired and not since Billy Kundiff went wide left

(13:38):
in the AFC Championship Game has a Ravens season ended
with such a gut wrenching thud. Has a missfield goal
and the season is over for the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
As you might be able to tell. That was the
Ravens Radio Network with the call. But what was interesting
was lam Mark Jackson asked about Joan Harbaugh's future as
his head coach. I'll have that for you coming up
your phone calls as well. Seat will come up with
the poll question. We got a busy day on this Monday.
We're glad to be back back after this Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Kevin Stefanski is out in Cleveland, so we ends up
up beating what the Steelers, the Ravens, and the Bengals
and then loses his job. So very brownsish of them
to get rid of Kevin Stefanski. If you include last
night's Pittsburgh Baltimore game, seventy three games were decided by

(15:17):
three points or less. That is tied for the most
in NFL history.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Is that a good thing?

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Do we have a lot of nine and eight, eight
and nine, ten and seven kind of now? In the
NFC West, you have some great teams, But it feels
like this is what the NFL likes. They like that
games are not going to get out of hand. You
don't have a dominating team. It's hard to keep a
dynasty going, and therefore your team has a chance, Like Carolina,

(16:01):
wonderful job, really wonderful. I don't know how good they are.
I don't know if Bryce Young is a franchise quarterback.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
They have to.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Decide if they're going. Now do I want to extend him. No,
I'd let him play out this next year. I'd franchise him,
but I'm not giving him two hundred and fifty million dollars.
I like him when i've met him, a wonderful kid,
but this is business. I want to know can you
win games for me?

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Now? You can be a game manager? Now? Can he
do that? Yes?

Speaker 2 (16:34):
But I need to know if you can win a game,
because that's what the playoffs comes down to.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
There.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
You can't win these playoff games unless your quarterback helps
you win a game. It's not like Trent Dilfer. We
don't have any more Trent Dilpher's. Will you just go
out there and you go, okay, just don't screw it up. Okay,
let the defense take over. You don't have to do
anything there. You got to make plays. And Bryce Young
is a nice quarterback. They showed a whole lot of progress. Now,

(17:03):
granted they made the playoffs with a losing record, and
if you're in the NFC set, that's what makes the
Falcons situation even messier.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
All you got to do is have a winning.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Record, you host the playoffs. Here are the lines. Rams
are nine and a half point favorites. At Carolina, Packers
one and a half point favorites at the Bears, The
Bills are one and a half point at the Jags,
Niners getting three and a half at the Eagles, Chargers

(17:33):
three and a half at the Patriots, and the Texans.
They are three and a half point favorites in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Wow. Wow.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Speaking of the Steelers after they put away the Baltimore
Ravens last night, or did the Ravens put away the
Baltimore Ravens last night? Here is the question to John
Harbaugh on this season, and then we'll hear from Lamar
Jackson about John Harball's future with the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Just how frustrating has this season been to have? You know,
there's been a handful of games that.

Speaker 6 (18:12):
Guys that kind of had in your grasp one way
or another, and you just wanted.

Speaker 9 (18:17):
This morning's disappointing car Guys fought we were that close
to went in the North and we didn't just want
to get it done. So all that other stuff is history,
had chanced to do it, we didn't do it, were
disappointed and we'll move on.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Then you had Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback, the question
about his head coach's future. Now listen to the words
that he uses.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Do you want to see John reading the coach?

Speaker 10 (18:41):
Here? You you asked me about next year, Jamison, I'm
so caught up in what does happened tonight? I can't
I can't focus on that right now. I just told you,
like he asked me, are you stunning? I'm stunning right
now and I'm still strying the process.

Speaker 11 (18:55):
What's going on?

Speaker 10 (18:56):
I know we lost, but but you know.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
That's all okay.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Now, I'm going to be fair to Lamar Jackson because
it's right after the game, a game that they thought
they were going to win. They were in perfect position,
game winning field goal. You go into the playoffs, then
it doesn't take long the cooling down period. Then you
go meet with the medium. He is asked, do you
want John Harball back? All he asked to do is say,

(19:24):
of course I do. But I'm stunned by what happened here.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Man.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
I'm still trying to protest that he didn't. He didn't
answer if he wanted John Harball back. Do you listen
to the question.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Again, do you want to see John drain the first
I mean, it's there on a tee.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Even if you don't want him back, you have to say, yes,
I expect him back next year. But man, it's going
to take a while for me to get rid of
this bad taste that we should be in the playoffs here.
Like then it goes away. Now that just kind of
lingers there. Even Lamar Jackson's future in Baltimore, it just

(20:05):
kind of hangs there a little bit until something declarative
comes out of the front office. There is John Harbaugh
done in Baltimore. You know, we focused on Mike Tomlin
the last two months, and there's still no guarantee. They're
not even favored at home. If they lose that game
to the Texans and they're three and a half point underdogs,

(20:28):
what happens. What's Aaron Rodgers' future? Rogers played better than
I think people thought he would, But I don't know
if that could have been his last game. Last night,
I felt like it could have been his last game.
It's like Travis Kelcey, man, I watched that should be
his last game. Here's Travis Kelcey talking about possible retirement

(20:52):
last year.

Speaker 12 (20:52):
He wanted you to take some time away from the
season before you came to a decision.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Do you feel like you probably do that again where
you want to get away from the emotions of this
forular season before he come to a final decision on
next year.

Speaker 12 (21:03):
I mean, who knows. Who knows either hits me quick
or or I gotta take some time. I think last
year was a little bit easier. I think I knew
right away I wanted to kind of give this one
a shot, so I know we'll see.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Okay, whatever his answer is, he's going to hold it
for his podcast with his brother. Yeah, I mean he's
a businessman. Yeah.

Speaker 13 (21:29):
He didn't walk off the field like a fella who
had just played his last game.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
He played like a guy who was playing in his
last Yeah.

Speaker 13 (21:38):
But he walked off like yeah, see you next year.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Yeah, he didn't.

Speaker 13 (21:41):
He didn't look emotional. He didn't even really like stand
and take it in for a second deal like is
this it is?

Speaker 2 (21:47):
This?

Speaker 3 (21:47):
How it's all going out? He walked off, you know,
deuces to the crowd. Yes, signed some real quick all right,
see you.

Speaker 13 (21:52):
Later walked off with his typical Travis Kelcey swag.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
But they wanted to make.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Sure he got over thirteen thousand receiving yards and he
and he so, he and Jason Whitten and Tony Gonzalez
the only tight ends with over thirteen thousand receiving yards.
So it felt like that was really important for him
to get that or them to get that for him.
Would I be surprised if he comes back.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
I would be.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
And you also have to factor in Patrick Mahomes. What
is going to be his timeframe? And I know he
hopes to be ready for the regular season, you know,
he might not be ready until October, maybe November. And
if you're Travis kelcey, do you want to come back
if you know Mahomes might not be there for you,
maybe you're not going to be a playoff team again.

(22:39):
But it felt like that was maybe the final game
that he was going to play. Aaron Rodgers, I felt
like this was going to be his last year, no
matter what. And if they lose this opening round game
against the Texans, how's that going to how's that going
to play in Pittsburgh where it's already it feels like
a tenuous situation.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
I mean, they would love it.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Feels like collectively that city to move on from Mike
Tomlin And yes, you know these insiders, I do that
in quotes telling me he's always got a great TV future.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
No kidding, no kidding, I mean.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
He'll have a great TV future the following year. If
he coaches one more year, Tomlin will be hired immediately.
In fact, I know one network who's already talked about that.
Sources close to me tell me, yes, Paul.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
Aaron Rodgers stats were pretty good this year.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
He's sixty six percent passer, three thousand yards, twenty three touchdowns,
seven picks. Those are probably better than expected.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah, yeah, could.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
He play on another team for one year? More likely
than the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
But what team would want him for one year?

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Hypothetical I'll throw this out there.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
Raiders have the number one pick, they do the smart
thing and develop Fernando Mendoza and sign Aaron Rodgers to
a one year deal. And now you're thinking long term,
You take Rogers for one year. See what happened and
Mendoza takes over and everyone knows that's the plan.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Yeah, just a thought, yes, Mormon.

Speaker 11 (24:05):
But if you're the Raiders, do you want Aaron Rodgers
against the Chiefs, the Broncos, and the Chargers twice a year?
So just so if they can get beat up and
still just win four games.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yeah, I don't know if there's a scenario where I go, Man,
that team needs Aaron Rodgers. Now you're taking a team
that is terrible, and now you're gonna be a bridge quarterback,
not a team that's on the cusp of you know,
he wanted to go to the Vikings, and the Vikings
decided on JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Maybe the Vikings will have Aaron Rodgers. Next, that's not nuts.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
No, all right, your phone calls coming up. See what's
the poll question for the first hour.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
That's not nuts.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Community. Second, that's not nuts. I think is gonna be
the name of our new seats segment. That's not nuts,
brought to you by Pistachio. He's nuts.

Speaker 13 (24:52):
Yes, that's not nuts. Well, then I'm just shotting that down.
We got one here from Paul. Actually, I'm going to
give him credit for both of these, even though he
sent one. The second was implied most Surprising playoff miss
AFC version Bengals, Chiefs, Colts Ravens.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Then we're adding in and giving him.

Speaker 13 (25:14):
Credit for most Surprising playoff miss NFC.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
I was gonna write it to be the Lions.

Speaker 13 (25:20):
I figured I have where you were going. Uh, Cowboys, Lions.
I put Buccaneers, Falcons Commanders. Not really sure about Falcons commanders.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Is a little surprise.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Well, they had the injuries. I didn't think they were
going to make the playoffs this time of year. If
Jane Daniels was healthy.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
I'd say the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
But well, even if Mahomes is healthy, I still don't
think they were making the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
So I don't know how much of a surprise that is.

Speaker 13 (25:48):
You want to do most surprising playoff miss we could
say like Chiefs, Ravens, Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Lions.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yeah, well, the because they got off to that great start.
Tampa Bay got off to a great start. You know,
we had Baker Mayfield in the Hall of Fame. Jonathan
Taylor was winning the MVP.

Speaker 5 (26:10):
Yes, Paulie, the Colts needed to lose their last seven
to miss the playoffs. They had, I mean they were
still in it as of two weeks ago. I mean
the cult are now in that category when another team
misses the playoffs, well, but then the Colts.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Buddha and San Francisco Buddha. Best and worst of the weekend,
and thank you for my Christmas.

Speaker 8 (26:30):
Gift, Belisanevo DP welcome back boys. My sports show Binki
is back. And like they always say, Dan, absence makes
the heart go fonder. Miss you guys, even you Fritzy.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Let's ride.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
Okay, I think I remember how to do this best
and Worst of the Break, Dan, So many things have
taken place. I mean, you know, me and my Niners
and Pauli's Bears gave us the game of the year
so far in my opinion. I mean that was like
defense was optional. Well, it was like a heavyweight slug fest.
So that would be my best of the break and
the worst of the Breakdan, my Niners. It's it's sad,

(27:08):
and it feels a little bit like full goal, Like
we just don't have the weapons of the depth, Dan,
like we like, especially with this whole Super Bowl being
in San Francisco, we could have had whole field advantage,
but Seattle came in.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
Thank you Buddha. You know, this feels like one of
those years where you're ahead of schedule. With the Niners.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
They had the injuries and they're not ahead of schedule,
but they they they carved down. So I said, Kyle
Shanahan may have had his best coaching year. I mean, really,
I didn't. I don't think they're a great team. And
even McCaffrey, now that's your go to guy, Brock Perdy
banged up his hand.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Who knows.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Maybe Mac Jones is going to be playing in the playoffs,
but you lose your two best defensive players.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Can Fred Warner come back? Marvin?

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Did you see any headlines that there's a chance that,
I guess depending on how far the Niners go.

Speaker 11 (28:01):
Yeah, I think best case scenario NFC championship game.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
All right, Chris and Syracuse, Good morning, Chris. What's on
your mind today?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Hey?

Speaker 14 (28:09):
Thanks Dan, I got a best and worson a Comma
my best. Congrats to Miles Garritt in the single season
sack record and the most impressive part was he did
it without any assistance from Brett Barbara and I love
this stat line. The Oregon Ducks forty seven rushes for
a total of sixty four yards. Yeah, it wasn't pretty,
but they won twenty three zip and my worst assistant

(28:30):
coaches at Old Miss pulling double duty coaching Old Miss
and also helping their future boss lsu Lane Kipp and
recruit players in the transfer portal. Yeah, the NCAA really
just has to change the timing of the transfer power
portal am I kind of the Miami Dolphins hired broadcaster
for ABC ESPN Troy Aikman to help in their GM search.
You think that move would come under some scrutiny, similar

(28:53):
to Tom Brady's dual roles with Fox Sports and the Las
Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Well, Brady is a minor the owner. They're just bringing
in Troy to help for the search. It's kind of
like you're hiring a consultant. Do I like the look
of it? Or is we love to say the optics?

Speaker 3 (29:10):
No?

Speaker 2 (29:11):
And don't you have Dan Marino for this? That's what
I thought, Like, if you're a Marino, you're like, wait,
I'm the Hall of Fame quarterback in here, But Troy
is going to help you.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
Yeah, Paulie, But people on social media were crushing the Cowboys.
You've had Troy Aikman, who's probably wanted to do this
for a while. I think you and he talked about it, yeah,
and the Cowboys have never asked Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Years ago when I talked to him about it, and
you could tell that he was kind of like waiting,
I'm late. It almost felt like he was like an
open letter to Jerry Jones. Okay, yeah, I'd like to
get involved with a team. I don't even know if
he said it with a team he gave a little

(29:54):
Jerry Jones.

Speaker 11 (29:55):
Yes, yes, Todd, And why wouldn't they Jerry just wouldn't
want to share the spotlight with it? Is that what
it is?

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Probably he probably wouldn't want to share. I mean that
that led to the separation of him and Jimmy Johnson,
who got credit.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
I mean crazy, Yes, Paul.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Why would you want a three time Super Bowl champion
and one of the best football minds helping out the
team are basically free?

Speaker 3 (30:18):
Yeah that's true. All right, let's go around the room.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Did Joe Burrow play a role other than being the
quarterback being sacked for Miles Garrett's record, Todd.

Speaker 11 (30:31):
I felt like he could have made a little bit
better of an effort to get out of the way.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
I guess that's how I'll pose that.

Speaker 13 (30:35):
Okay, Seaton, I think it was less about any type
of record and more just about the game that they
were in at this stage of the season. So I'm
gonna say.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
No, he did not play a role.

Speaker 13 (30:49):
I think he would have done that, whether it was
for a sack record or not.

Speaker 11 (30:52):
Okay, Marvin, Yeah, I think he helped out Miles a
little bit too.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Glow that o, Paulie.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
I'm watching it. Miles is right on top of him.
It felt like Jokodas squeaked out and maybe decided I
don't need to squeak out. I see helped like ten percent.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
It felt like Miles Garrett was helping him to his
seat in a restaurant, patt him on the back, just
kind of like you know, I mean, it wasn't Brett Farv,
like where Farv just basically fell down for Strahan. You
know the thing about Miles Garrett is he probably could
have had thirty five sacks this year. Now, I'll explain

(31:34):
he's always double teamed now that when he wasn't, so
one of the biggest plays of the season for you.
You don't double team Miles Garrett. That was That's where
I go, what are we doing?

Speaker 5 (31:45):
Yeah, Paul maybe the offensive line coach helped Miles Garrett
number seventy five, the left tackle. He seemed like he
had money on Miles Garrett to get the record.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
But if you think about it, how many games are
the Browns ahead in where you know it's a passing down.
Imagine if he was on a team that was good. Now, granted,
you know he got his money and you stayed with Cleveland,
so there's no sympathy there. Not that he's asking for it,
but you're always chances are the team that you're facing

(32:16):
is leading you and they're not going to be an
obvious passing downs, and you double team Miles Garrett.

Speaker 13 (32:23):
Yes, yeah, I feel like it was not at all
about let me throw Miles Garrett a bone here and
just give him the record. I have more about Joe
Burrow's exhaustion and being like, I don't feel like doing this.
I'm not gonna what am I gonna squeak out to
try and pick up a couple of yards? Forget it, dude,
I'm just going down. It was just kind of a
weird play, Yeah, that's all. It was almost like so

(32:46):
little of a sect that Miles Garrett shouldn't get credit
for it.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
I know part of well, I had my hand on him,
so I guess that means I guess well, part of
me was hoping.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
And you know, those other defensive linemen we're not going
to get involved in that because they didn't want to
be a half sack.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
Yeah, both the top three defensive players in the league
for being double teamed or Micah Parsons, Miles Garrett, and
of course Max Crosby percentage of times double team. Now,
there's a thing called pass rush win rate. It's how
many times you're being blocked and you beat the blocker.
Michah Parsons was number one in the league. Nick Bonito
from Denver, number two, Will Anderson three, Miles Garrett four.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
But think about that. Max Crosby's team was all is,
always behind and still to be able to put up
double digit sack totals pretty much every year that he
started for them. Now they might be parting ways because
he wanted to play and they deactivated him. Also, brock Bowers,

(33:46):
I don't know if he was injured, but he was
just he might have been a healthy scratch. Like the
Raiders were going to make sure they were getting the
number one pick in the draft. And you would think
with Ashton Genty and Brock Bowers and maybe Mendo's all right,
it's a pretty good nucleus. Here's the problem I had
with the Raiders. You know what, I'm gonna take a break.
I'll take a break, play the day coming up, and

(34:07):
then I'll give you my problem with the Raiders this
past season. We're back after this.

Check this out.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Four man rush coming Rogers back lofting left hasn't been

Speaker 10 (34:40):
Touchdown Witzburg Staylors fifty five secondating.

Speaker 3 (34:46):

they've been helping you find the right tires for Hollinwood

(35:14):
should be. All right, I was mentioning the Raiders. I
liked Ashton Genty. I liked him a lot in college,
and I have no problem if you're going to draft
somebody and make him sort of your Christian McCaffrey, Jamir Gibbs.
You know this hybrid. Now, I don't know if he
can be a hybrid, but I did like him. He's
great after contact. But the thing that I always have said,

(35:38):
and I go back to Andrew Luck, I can have
a great quarterback, but if I don't have a great
offensive line, my great quarterback might be just a good quarterback.
Look at what happened to Patrick Mahomes in the two
Super Bowls where he got blown out. He didn't have
a good offensive line. So one of the three greatest

(35:58):
quarterbacks of all time looked average because he had an
average offensive line. The Raiders were in the bottom five
in offensive line. Now this is PFF rankings, bottom five.
What did the Patriots do When you get a quarterback,

(36:18):
and you got a franchise quarterback, you go out and
you get Will Campbell at your left tackle. Penny Sewell
with the Lions. That helps Jared Goff like, there's certain
teams who have done it right. Now, the Colts did
get it right eventually, and then Andrew Lux said I
don't want to play anymore. Where they had a really
good offensive line, but you got to build from in

(36:40):
with your line, offensive and defensive line. It's everything. Now
you're wasting a running back. You got to have a
good offensive line, and maybe if you can have a
couple of great offensive linemen or even one great offensive lineman.
The Eagles won the Super Bowl because they had a
better offensive defensive line. That's where it starts. It's same

(37:05):
thing with college football. You can talk about everybody in
the transfer portal. I've said, all along, man, give me
offensive and defensive linemen because there aren't that many to
go around. There are a lot of quarterbacks, there are
a lot of running backs, a lot of wide receivers. Man,
it's hard to get good offensive lineman. There's good defensive lineman.
But you got to spend the money. And that's what

(37:28):
the Patriots have done with Drake May. Now, if Mendoza
is going to be your quarterback, you better bolster the
offensive line.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Or he's going to be David Carr. He's going to be.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Back there where you go. Guy's got a lot of talent.
You just doesn't have any time. So that's what the
Raiders did. And look, do I like Pete Carroll?

Speaker 3 (37:50):
I do? Was he the right guy?

Speaker 8 (37:53):
No?

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Because it feels like that was.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
A team that's rebuilding, and Pete's got a lot of energy.
But that's where you get somebody younger who's going to
grow with them, who's who you're going to be committed
to for five years. But you know Pete's not going
to survive. And then you know, maybe you bring in
Brian Flores, who deserves another chance defensive coordinator. But you know,

(38:17):
the Raiders do have some pieces. But the Raiders could
turn out to be sort of the Atlanta Falcons of
the AFC. Where you go, man, they got a really
good running back, they got some you know, a good
tight end, and you got a good quarterback, or you
spend a high pick on a quarter I mean, that's
what the Falcons do. But the Raiders bolster the offensive line.

(38:39):
The old Raiders were built on that offensive line. They
had an unbelievable offensive line back in the day. Look
at dynasties, look at the offensive line, look at defensive line.
It's not a fluke. I mean, it's not sexy to
talk about it now. There's no hot tatings of it is.

(39:01):
Let's talk Will Campbell for twenty minutes.

Speaker 11 (39:03):
Yes, Marvin, that was always my issue with the NFL
draft when people will be like, oh, well we're drafting
a defensive tackle, when it's like slow clapp, No, no, no,
that's not went super Bowls. Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Jalen Carter.
In the past what five or six years, defensive tackles
have won Super Bowls?

Speaker 5 (39:18):
Yeah, Pully, And you go back to you get at
offensive line, then you don't need to spend on the
running back position. When the Chiefs had the good line,
they drafted Pacheco seventh round. He's still not gotten paid.
And Lamar Jackson, I'm sorry, Uh, if you go back
to the Raiders, Ashton Genty is now pricey. He's pricy
at that position and he's just going to be going

(39:38):
backwards for the next two years.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Well, you know, you can turn your team around, but
you got to you gotta get offensive lineman. You know
that it starts there. And I think that that's you know,
the shame of all of this is sometimes you'll get
a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
We go, man, what a bust? I got it. Sam
Darnold failed in New York.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Therefore he has that label of he's a failure and
it's not fair to him. You play for a bad team,
bad organization and all of a sudden, they're asking you
to be a savior. First six seasons, he had twenty
one wins as a starter. The last two seasons, Sam
Donald has twenty eight wins as a starter.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Steat of the day, stat of the day, that beast,
stead of the day, stat of the day. Here comes
that what stat of the day?

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Brought to you by Panini America. But also he's playing
on better teams. Therefore, Sam Donald. And now do I
think he's a great quarterback?

Speaker 7 (40:37):
No?

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Do I think he's a good quarterback?

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Yes I do. I think he has the potential to
be a good quarterback. Still comes down to what's going
to happen in the next couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
That's it. He gets to the end. No matter what happens.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Unless he's holding the l Party Trophy, people are probably
going to say, yeah, Dan win the big one. Not fair,
But that's the sports landscape that we live in. Josh Allen,
AFC wide open. Now you got your chance, not their
best team. Now is your chance?

Speaker 11 (41:10):
Yes, Marvin, And this is his second straight year on
being on a really good regular season team, so now
he's got to prove it.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Yeah, these are big games, and your quarterback has to
make some big plays at some point for you to advance.
Albert Breer on the Browns decision to fire Kevin Stefanski.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
Who's next today, Steve.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Young a little later on, and the great college football
analyst Gary Danielson two more hours on this Monday.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
We're back after this
