Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Hour two.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
On this Tuesday. Hockey Tomorrow, Basketball on Thursday. We'll check
in with the New York Knicks coming up at about
twenty minutes from now. Also the Ravens running back Derek Henry,
friend of the show, will stop buying the final hour
of the program. Just got that contract extension, two year
contract extension. NFL otaser underway. Stefan Diggs is with the

(00:27):
Patriots but hasn't spoken to the media, at least not yet.
Big news out of Detroit the Lions All Pro center
Frank Ragnell announced his retirement at the age of twenty nine.
You lose both coordinators, they became head coaches. Now you
lose your starting center. That's a big deal, big deal,
and you start to look at this and maybe it's

(00:48):
just a coincidence because Frank retires at the age of
twenty nine, Calvin Johnson retired at the age of thirty
and Barry Sanders retired at the age of thirty one,
all with the Lions. Now, Calvin and Barrier hall of famers,
and Frank might have been on his way to being

(01:09):
a Hall of Famer. It's hard to find a center.
But didn't they draft a center pretty high up in
this past draft. Can we find that out? Maybe second
round and Frank had been injured before the year before.
I think that finding a great center, you know, we
usually talk about that left tackle, that center is equally

(01:30):
as important. But him retiring at the age of twenty nine,
and to announce it at the beginning of June, I
think that's what surprised people. If they had the idea
that he was going to retire, or maybe they're, you know,
something contractually retiring at the beginning of June.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I don't know that.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
But he was second team All Pro center, played almost
one hundred regular season games. His last game he played
was age twenty eight. So retires at the age of
twenty nine, Yes, Paulin.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
The Lions did draft two offensive linemen, not specifically a center,
but guys who played multiple positions.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Okay, yeah, so they had an idea that this was
coming their way, all right, So we'll check in with
the Knicks. Derrick Henry will stop by as well. Stanley
Cup Final Wednesday. The NBA Finals will be coming up
on Thursday. Charles Barkley was with US yesterday in the
second hour of the program, and he brought up something

(02:29):
interesting because I was under the impression that ESPN is
basically outsourcing inside the NBA, just getting those guys. You
continue to do the show in Atlanta, and then we're
going to bring you in under the ESPN umbrella. You know,
Pat McAfee does his show in Indianapolis and not really
affiliated with ESPN. I mean, he part of College Game Day,

(02:50):
but he's really under his own umbrella and bringing in
inside the NBA. And I thought that was going to
be their NBA show, and then Charles goes, no, maybe
maybe half the time will be on ESPN, but he
said that we shot a pilot, so they had Jack
and Ernie and Kenny and Charles try to do a

(03:13):
show no highlights because they're not a rights holder anymore.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
And I'm thinking, what is TNT now.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I know that they're trying to get something out of
these guys under contract, but what are you going to show?
How are you going to show it? And why am
I tuning in for that? As much as I like
those guys, but what are you doing If you can't
show highlight? You can't be inside the NBA if you
can't really get inside the NBA, and I like those

(03:44):
guys talking. But then there's a lot more to that show.
And I'm guessing ESPN is okay with this, you're going
to purchase this show that you're only getting the show
fifty percent of the time at the most, maybe one
night a week you're getting this.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
It just feels like that there's I got a lot
of questions. Charles didn't have any answers, and he's part
of the show. That was the amazing part. He goes,
we did this stupid pilot. It was terrible, terrible, and
I go, oh my goodness. But no, they got a
long time here, got a big window here to workshop

(04:25):
this so they can try to figure out what they're
going to do.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
On TNT.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Stat of the Day brought to you my Panini America,
the Official Trading Cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Poll
question for hour two is going to be what Seaton.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Well, let me update you real quick on our one
and then we do have a new one for hour two.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
MM.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
That'll be fun. Let's see, we've got a NFL team
that will drop off this season and miss the playoffs
right now, Vikings running away with that one that was
Marvin's suggestion, followed by Paul and Dan's Commanders, Rams and
Chiefs not getting too much vote there, and then off
to a more if he start, Bill Belichick still has
seventy percent of that vote over Stefan Diggs and the Patriots.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Belichick's stays the entire season. I don't think the Stefan
Diggs thing is gonna I mean, it's it's now, it's
it's present, But I think once the season starts then
it'll be over Belichick. I mean he's on the clock. Yeah,
this doesn't go away.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
Now.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
If he wins, then people don't care about his relationship,
you know, with his girlfriend.

Speaker 7 (05:33):
Yes.

Speaker 8 (05:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
The thing that's unfortunate for Stefan Diggs is because he's
a by all accounts, a great guy. He's always been
awesome every time he comes on the show or whatever.
But it makes jumping from a couple of teams go
from well, maybe he just couldn't find the right fit
to oh wait, maybe there's an issue there.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Well we saw this with Tara Lewens, Hall of Fame talent,
but kind of where out as welcome right, not the
right place at the right time, didn't get along with
the quarterback, whatever it might be, there was always a
miry out of reasons, excuses. But with Stefan Diggs, you've

(06:13):
been on a couple of teams. You know, we were
surprised what happened in Buffalo, and then you go to
the Texans and you get hurt and now you're in
New England and signed a pretty good contract there, which
was surprising.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Yeah, pulling, But there's a guy who was midway through
his career, he was very well liked in Minnesota, works
his way to Buffalo, which worked out great. His four
years in Buffalo, he averaged one hundred and fifteen catches
and thirteen hundred yards a year. That's the kind of
stuff that gets you on the door of the Hall
of Fame. And now his career is yeah, he flucks, Yeah,

(06:48):
he's not a Hall of Famer, but yeah, you find
these receivers have about a five year stretch where they
were great. It's just hard to sustain that at that
position where you go, oh my gosh, that guy lights
out for five years and then after that end up
in another team, start to trail off a little bit here,

(07:10):
and that's what happened to stuff on Diggs and he
got injured as well. All right, we'll get to some
phone calls here coming up eight seven to seven to
three DP show Matt in South Bend. Hi, Matt, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (07:24):
Good morning, Dan, Thanks for lendn's. Thanks for taking my call.
I have two things for you. As I've said before
to you, I'm the guy that got you in the
unfortunate Notre Dame fireball situation. With the talk last week
it coming potentially coming back to town. I wanted to offer
first see and I owe you a pie of the
base if you want to give that to me in person.

(07:45):
I lived here right across the street from Notre Dame,
and I would give you that honor.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Oh yeah, absolutely, we'll take you up. We're going to
try to go to the USC game. And the last
time we were there it was a USC game. We're
looking for a beer where everybody's tailgating, and I'm and
you know, my guys go, we'll just be Dan Patrick,
get us some beers.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
So I walk around.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
All of a sudden I got Matt and his crew
who say, hey, you want to do a fireball, And
then I said I'll do one. And then they like
fifteen cameras came out. I go no, I'm not no, no, no, no,
We're not doing this. So next time, though, just give
me a beer, Matt, not a fireball.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (08:26):
So that was the second part that I wanted to
offer you, is being here now ten years. I have
already arranged if you guys want a private tailgate where
all the beer will be staged, the local Miller Lite
distributors already a degree. Yeah, I'll have a local grill master.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Okay, that's how you call in and become a friend
at the show, absolutely, Matt will.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
We'll keep you posted.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
But we're going to try to come in for the
USC game and man, maybe do the show on campus
for a couple of days. That's that's my goal, and
for the people in Iowa, I still want to bring
the show there. We just have to find the right
time and see if there's anything else going on.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
We do want to bring the show to Iowa.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
I promised before I call this a career, we will
be in Iowa. But we're trying to go to South
Bend because who knows how many more games USC and
Notre Dame will have. But Matt, thank you for the
invitation and we look forward to taking you up on that,
Nathan and san Antonio.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Hi, Nate, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Man? That's a tough fact to follows on deck? But anyways,
I missed the show yesterday because I had jury duty.
Good news is I was in and out in three
and a half hours, So salute to that. My question
for you is you had Charles on yesterday. Is Charles
Barkley the most unfireable person in sports media history? That's question?

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Oh history?

Speaker 2 (10:02):
If he hasn't been fired yet, that he's not going
to be fired. Yeah, stephen A, I'm guessing with that contract,
probably not fireable. McAfee might be. I guess, but you know,

(10:24):
after a while, I mean, you get you get to
that lofty perch, and your contributions to ESPN makes it really,
really difficult, you know, because Paddle pushed the envelope. Stephen
A pushes the envelope. Barkley pushes the envelope. That's that's
why you hire them. You can't you can't be upset
at them. If they push the envelope, you can't go.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
I'll be damned.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Did you hear what Barkley said? Or McAfee said, or
stephen A said, this is why you hire them. Yes,
Martin Nathan said all time. What about Howard Cosell. I
think at the end of his career, he probably I
mean Brent Musburger got fired by CBS.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Did he really?

Speaker 7 (11:09):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah, yeah, that.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Was at the final four in Denver, and I remember
I'm out there and at the final four, I'm going,
did you hear the news? And I go, no, Brent Musburger,
let go by CBS. I go no, No, he wasn't.
And then I realized that he was. We're all expendable.

(11:34):
But the word fire, you know, that takes on a
lot of different meanings because you can be not renewed,
let go budgetary. You know, you're never quite sure. But yeah,
if Charles hasn't been fired, that he's not going to
be fired. Elliott in Iowa, Hi, Elliott, Hey, Dan H

(11:57):
five nine.

Speaker 10 (11:59):
I was wondering, Well, first of all, I'm in sports
media myself twenty nine and still still kind of young
in the gig. So first of all, I wanted to
say that you're my goat. I told my girlfriend multiple
times actually this week, that you're the greatest of all
time in sports radio. So you're my favorite. Secondly, I

(12:20):
wanted to say, or I wanted to ask if you
could go back at the start of your career and
ask yourself or sorry, give yourself a piece of advice.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
What would that be.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Don't put a time frame on success, because I wanted
everything to be kind of incrementally, Like at thirty you're
going to be here.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
At thirty five, you're going to be here. At forty,
you'll be here.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Don't have any time frame on it because you it's
already tough enough to do it, and you've added pressure
because you need to be I wanted to be at
ESPN by the time I was thirty. Well, I just
lost out on a weekend job in Daton, Iowa at
twenty seven, so my path to ESPN was going to
take a little bit longer. But I never stopped thinking

(13:07):
about that, And even when I took the job at CNN,
and I kept thinking, eventually I'll end up at ESPN.
I it was the only place that I mean, I
didn't have a plan. B. This is the only thing
I knew I could do, and somehow, some way I
was going to make it there. But I will say

(13:27):
that you know, it was five years after, I sent
a letter in a resume take to Bob Lee, who
was the eleven o'clock Sports Center anchor, and I said,
would you look at this and critique it for me?
And I'm forever indebted to Bob Lee. First of all,
he was somebody I truly looked up to with his
work ethic, and he wanted to be a journalist. He

(13:50):
wanted to do it correctly. He wasn't a hot take guy.
He wanted to be He wanted to have us be
up with news organizations that we were every bit the
news organization as the networks. But Bob watched my video.
I did five minutes where I had lived five minutes
of sports, no teleprompter, just five minutes, and I filmed

(14:13):
it myself, rented out equipment, sent it to ESPN with
a letter saying, you know, would you look at this?
Bob sent me a full page letter back critiquing my
five minutes, and he said, you're not ready for this,
but one day you will be. A little over five
years later, I'm sitting next to Bob Lee on the
Sports Center set. You know, I believe in fate. There's

(14:36):
a lot of luck involved in it. But I knew
if your name gets called, be ready, and I was ready,
so but Bob, Bob took the time.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
I'm just a.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Nobody who just missed out on a job at the
you know, in Dayton, Ohio and was going to give
up on TV at age twenty seven, and I thought, God,
I can do this. And I remember renting out all
this equipment and doing five minutes and then like I
had to get up and stop the camera.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
But I sent it, and.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
I was shocked when he sent me a letter back
and then gave me the encouragement that you can do this.
And then I got the job at CNN. And then
five years later, I call up ESPN and I have
no idea who I'm talking to, and I know John
Walsh just took over Sports Center and I called him

(15:32):
cold calling. I said, hey, do you know who I'm?
Dan Patrick? Do you know who I am? And he
said yes. I said, you shouldn't hire me. He goes, yes.
That was a Friday, and I said, he goes, when
can you come up? I go now and he goes, no,
like next week. I got to get everybody together. I
said tuesday, and he goes, all right. I went up
Tuesday I didn't even negotiate a contract. I just said,

(15:56):
you pay me whatever you think I'm worth, because I'm home,
this is where I want to be. And I should
have had an agent negotiating because they didn't exactly go.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
You know what, we're gonna overpay this.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Well, three months later, I'm sitting next to Bob Lee
on the Sports Center set and actually my first show
was with Chris Berman. You know, it's a wild ride
and you know, truly indebted with you know, Chris, tom Mees,
the late tom Mes, John Walsh, and Bob Lee. They
took a chance and forever grateful for that. All right,

(16:32):
let me take a break. Let's check in with the
New York Knicks. I know that Karl Anthony Towns get
a lot of blame here, but is that reason enough
to move on from him? Also, Dereck Henry will join us.
Just signed that contract extension with the Ravens. We'll talk
to him. We'll also check in with the New England Patriots.
They got a couple of things that need to be

(16:52):
addressed at some point here with Stefan Diggs. We're back
after this on the Dan Patrick Show. Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk line up in the nation.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
We'll talk to the Ravens running back Derrick Henry. He'll
join us. Coming up next to Honor'll so check in
with the New England Patriots. There's a few questions that
need to be answered if you're going to get Stefan
Diggs to answer those questions. Stephan Bundy Stepan Bondi, the
Knicks beat reporter for the New York Post, back on
the program. Great to see you again. Give me the

(18:28):
one word you would use to describe the next season.

Speaker 12 (18:33):
Uh, success? I mean listen. I know that there are
some fans who were very upset with how they had
ended in the conference finals, but this was the first
conference finals for this franchise in twenty five years. It
was a new core. They won fifty one games, which
was the most that they've ever done since two twenty thirteen.
They beat the defending champs in the second round. Nobody

(18:55):
gave them a shot against the Celtics. They beat them
in six games, and they ran up against a Pacers
team that I thought a lot of people underestimated, including myself.
This was one of the best teams in the NBA
after January first, and they were hot and they took
it to him. So listen, overall, you know, you like
what you saw from Jalen Brunson. Certainly there were some
chemistry issues that need to get ironed out. I thought

(19:18):
mckel bridges struggled throughout the season, But overall, I mean, listen,
given the history of this franchise, I think it was
a success.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Okay, but you're being very rational here, fair Nick. Fans
aren't rational here, and they want changes made. And if
it's Tom Thibodeau or it's Karl Anthony Towns, give us
a crystal ball what you think will happen and should
happen this offseason.

Speaker 12 (19:47):
So I think they are going to try to be
aggressive and trying to upgrade this roster. I don't see
the player out there that's gonna make a lot of sense.
I don't think they have the assets to go get
Gianni Santa Tokounmpo. I don't think Kevin Durant when you
look at the salary that he's making and what you
have to do to match those salaries, makes a lot
of sense when you're trading for a thirty six year old,

(20:09):
injury prone guy. I get it. He's great in though,
he's a great offensive player. He'd be great in the playoffs.
But first you need to get to the playoffs, and
in order to do that, you're gonna have to trade
two players who eat up a lot of minutes for
the Knicks for the Knicks, And I just don't see
how you can do that in a tib system when
you don't have much depth. And now, all of a sudden,
you've traded two players on your roster for an injury

(20:31):
prone guy that's not, you know, not gonna make it
through eighty two games. That trade doesn't make a lot
of sense to me right now. Listen, things develop in
the NBA landscape that shock you. I don't know who's
gonna become available. I don't know who's gonna shake loose.
But the way I see it right now, I think
the best move for the Knicks is to just add depth.
I think that was a big issue in this series,

(20:52):
especially in the in the Pacers series, they just were
overwhelmed by the amount of Pacers depth and players on
the bench. They couldn't match that and I think they
have enough assets right now to go out and free agency,
look at the trade market and find people to boost
up that bench. I think that would be the move
right now.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
How surprised were you that people were surprised that Karl
Anthony Towns can't play defense.

Speaker 12 (21:18):
It's shocking to me. I don't understand why the fans
were so shocked by this, because this is who he is.
He's ten years now in the league, he was drafted
in twenty fifteen. This is who they They got mckel Bridges,
they got O. J. A. Nanoby, the massive defensive deficiencies
of Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns, and we saw
a play out exactly how I predicted it would unfold.

(21:41):
He's a great offensive player. He does things that seven
footers shouldn't be able to do to put the ball
in the basket. But he's slow, he struggles with pick
and roll coverage, and he's not a good defender. He
fouls too much and he probably complains too much about
about fouls. So that's Karl ane any Towns in a nutshell.
That's who he's been. I don't understand why Knicks fans

(22:03):
expected it to be something else. But it seemed like
after that Pacers series and after the playoff run, everybody
was taken aback by how poorly he played defensively. That's
who he is. The Minnesota Timberwolves, to compensate for Karl
Anthony Towns defensive deficiencies, went out and got Rudy Gobert.
You know, that's something that the Knicks might need to explore,

(22:24):
is moving Cat to the four. You saw it in
the playoffs. Mitchell Robinson started at center. That's something that
I think the Knicks have to decide whether they view
Kat as a four or a five.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Handicapped the East moving forward? You know, we don't know
Tatum's timeframe of coming back. Do the Cavaliers keep their
core foward together? Philadelphia is a mess Atlanta. I mean,
if you're gonna Milwaukee, I mean, they're not that many
teams that are really good in the East. But if

(22:56):
you're going to handicap that, what do you think happens
in the offseason with any Do you think Gianis has
moved Let's start there.

Speaker 12 (23:03):
I do think Giannis ends up being moved, but I
you know, I think it's like a sixty forty proposition
because if the Milwaukee Bucks don't see a deal that
makes a lot of sense for them, I would not
pull the trigger if I'm them. You know, we saw
the backlash that that Nico Harrison got by trading Luka Doncic,

(23:24):
the player that the fan base absolutely adored. To me,
Jani sent to Coupo is the greatest player of Milwaukee
Bucks history. He's their number one asset, really their only
asset if you look down their roster. If you give
him up for something for pennies on the dollar, that
that franchise is going to be in a really rough spot.
So I get it. You feel like you o Janni

(23:45):
sent to Tokupo something because he dragged your franchise to
the championship.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
I get it.

Speaker 12 (23:50):
But listen if he if he comes out with a
list and says I want to go here, here, and here,
but the Bucks say, well, those teams aren't going to
give us what we want. Then if I'm Milwaukee, I
wait until the trade deadline at least. So maybe that
doesn't happen in the summer, but I do think that
it happens at some point. Because you have a team
in Milwaukee, They're not going to have Dame Lillard. They're
going to struggle next season. So let's assume Johannis. Let's

(24:13):
say he goes out west. Let's say he goes to Houston.
Now you're looking at an Eastern Conferences. I mean, it
would be anyway, but you look at the Eastern Conference,
it's wide open. You mentioned Jason Tatum, He's probably not
going to be available for most, if not all, of
next season. The Pacers are probably the cream of the
crop still, and I think I would put the Knicks

(24:34):
at number two. I mean, the Sixers you mentioned, they
could have to make a big leap, but you never
know what Joel embiid. So yeah, I go one Indiana
to the Knicks, and then it's really just wide open.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
The Thunder are the biggest favorite I think we've seen
in the NBA Finals aside from Golden State maybe in
twenty sixteen or twenty seventeen. But it doesn't it feels
like nobody knows who they are. That this will be
almost a hey, let's introduce you to the Oka she
Thunder here coming up in the NBA Finals, and short

(25:08):
of that way with the Pacers as well. But I
don't know, is this the blueprint can can you see
other teams trying to emulate what we've seen with the
Pacers and or OKC.

Speaker 12 (25:20):
Yeah, I mean I think it's a little bit. Both
teams are different. I mean what ok sid C did
was they just completely, you know, gutted the roster and
rebuilt and did it through draft picks. You know, I
don't you know, it is a blueprint. I think though
that you can look at the other side. But remember
the seventy six ers did the same exact thing when
they went through the process and it did not work out.

(25:42):
So listen, it's a treacherous path. Obviously, ok SE has
the number one guy in the business of GM in
Sam Presty. I mean, the guy's a genius. So it
really worked out for him and getting the right pieces.
SGA is obviously a very phenomenal player. As far as
as far as the Pacers, I think that Tyre's Halliburton

(26:03):
and it has become I think New York made him
almost I mean what he did with it at the Garden,
I think, you know, put him on the national landscape
in a lot of ways. He obviously was there before
he played in the Olympic team. But listen, this guy
has become something something different because of what he did
at Madison Square Garden. And I think that fans, you know,

(26:24):
got to got to know him a little bit better
and got to know his game a little bit better.
So even though people are looking at this series saying,
you know, it's two small market teams, not a lot
of interest, I'm sure the ratings aren't going to be
as good. It is going to be an exciting, thrilling series.
I think the playing styles are fantastic. I do think. Okay,

(26:45):
see though as the better team.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Great to talk to you. I know, covering the Knicks,
there's always a pulse there. It was kind of a
scary pulse.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
Though.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
What was it like leaving after that lost well, they
launched in Indiana, Yeah, what was it like in New York?

Speaker 3 (27:03):
Though?

Speaker 12 (27:04):
It was it was insanity. They lived and died with
every win, with every loss, they rioted either I mean
rioted is a strong word. They partied outside and no
matter what, no matter the result. But I did talk
to Clyde Frasier during the during the Pacer series. This
is a guy who's seen it all, and he said,

(27:26):
this is the wildest I've ever seen New York For
this team. So that's saying something right. I mean, they've
been starving in New York for a successful next team,
because if you look at the landscape you got in
New York, you got people who are Yankees fans, you
got people who are Mets fans. They're divided. You got
Jets and Giants fans. But in New York it's the Knicks.
I mean, you don't tell me about the Nets. It's

(27:47):
the Knicks. So they unite in that way. And we
saw that throughout this playoff run, if.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
The Nets would win a championship, would there be a
victory parade in New York?

Speaker 12 (27:58):
You know that's funny. You mentioned that I covered the
Nets for a little while and this had this idea
was brought up, whether they do it at the Canyon
and the Heroes or whether they do it in Brooklyn.
And I believe the mayor, Mayor Adams was campaigning on
the idea that he would have the parade in Brooklyn,
so they wouldn't even do it.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
We don't have to worry about them winning a title.

Speaker 12 (28:20):
No, no, we don't. They are long ways away from that.
They blew their shot with KD and Kyrie Stephan, thank you.
We appreciate your time.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
All right, thanks, all right, Stephan Bondi he covers the
Knicks for the New York Post.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Nobody cares about the Nets. Nobody.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I mean they did briefly because it was like, I'll
be damned, Kyrie KD going there and Harden and Okay.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
That still surprises me.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
I thought that Kyrie KD would end up with the
Knicks and that they would bring, you know, this, this
fandom that we saw, that you would have that attached
to those guys because they would give you true hope
of winning a championship. And this is a good team
that the Knicks. The Knicks do need depth, but then
I got to have a coach who's going to trust

(29:13):
the depth that I'm not playing these guys too many minutes.
And the fact that fans were surprised that Jalen Brunson
doesn't play defense or Karl Anthony Towns, that was what
was surprising that they were. They were surprised, like he
had one block shot, Karl Anthony Towns had one block
shot in that entire series against Indiana. But Indiana's going

(29:34):
to be there again next year.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Boston with Tatum. If I'm Boston. I make a run
at Jannis.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
I'd make Jalen Brown available, but I don't think Porzingis
is back or Drew Holliday Al Horford, so there might
be some changes there, Yes, Marv.

Speaker 13 (29:51):
So if you're trading Jalen Brown for Jannis, do you
add somebody else to Jalen Brown? And you have to Oh,
you have to write Derek White or somebody like that,
because if you're the bus, you're not saying we're not
trading Gianni's just for Jalen Brown. No, you got to
give me, give me Drew Holiday back, give.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Me No, I don't want I don't want Drew Holiday.
Gimme fan favorite Peyton Pritcher. You can't get rid of
a white guy in Boston. What are you doing territorial? Yeah,
it's gotta stay there. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:22):
Oh maybe I'm on an island here, But I feel
like it's crazy for the Celtics to let Jalen Brown go.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
If you can get Yannis. Oh there there there aren't
many guys like Joannis.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
That's not the dude that I would let go.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Yeah, okay, I would. I mean I like Jalen Brown.
Jalen Brown may flourish by being out out of Boston.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
But you know my big concern is Jason Tatum. Yeah,
how is he ready to play at all next season
coming back from this? That'd be somebody's gonna make a
move here, somebody's gonna make a move. Somebody's gonna go
all right, let's add that extra piece and then we're
gonna get Yannis?

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Is it? Houston San Antonio?

Speaker 2 (31:12):
I mean, that'd be fascinating if you had Giannis and
Victor Daron Fox, although you might have to give up him. Well,
you'll give up stuff on Castle, the rookie of the year, yes, Marvin.

Speaker 13 (31:27):
Yeah, So with the Celtics, you'd be giving up real debt,
and that's what makes the Celtics great, to give up
somebody give up for somebody like Giannis. And I think
when you're trying to win a playoff serison, trying to
win a championship, what do we say so and so
doesn't have enough debt?

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yeah, I agree, But and maybe you just say, what
do we You know, it's crazy for us to even
think about doing anything because we've already won a title.
But you're not gonna keep everybody Al Horford's thirty nine
I mean, maybe plays one more season. Porzingis you can't
count on Drew Holliday star to show some age here.

(32:03):
White is good, but Tatum and Brown, you know, obviously
very good. But yeah, you might look at it and go,
the East is winnable here, Indiana's really good, Cleveland's really good,
but the West is even tougher.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Yeah, poem, I was just looking at the Brooklyn Nets
with their futility. They do have four first round draft
picks this year. I think they have like eight twenty
twenty four, twenty seven or first round draft.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
It sounds impressive until you look at where they're drafting,
and I'll go, I always say this, who's doing the drafting?
If you have Sam Presty at Okay, see drafting, Okay,
it's like awesome.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
But Brooklyn, yeah, smart.

Speaker 13 (32:49):
And to me, they're the one team in the NBA
without a true fan base.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
That's true. It seems fair.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
They're like an activity in Brooklyn, a thing you can
go do and go see in Brooklyn if you're visiting
or you live near there. But it's not a team
you are live and die with.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Yeah, I don't. I mean there's not passion there obviously.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
I mean I go back to the New Jersey Nets
when Caliperi was the head coach Draws and Petrovitch was there,
Carrie Kittles was there, Kim and I hated that arena
going over there. Keith van Horn, it was just so sterilend.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, yeah, it was bad.

Speaker 13 (33:35):
Young Brian Scalabrini was on those Nets team.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
I don't remember Scalabrini, ah, but it was. It was.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
It was a long drive, you know, from Manhattan to
get over to Jersey. It's not very far, but it
took a long time. And then coming back and go
through the Lincoln Tunnel and you're like, and then you
got to put together a story. You did a feature
on Carrie Kittles, you know, and you're like, yeah, smart.

Speaker 13 (34:00):
We watched some of the best point guard play in
the history of basketball at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford,
Jason Kidd, I mean, those prime next years were so good.
And it's like where they play, Yeah, I don't know,
somewhere in New Jersey.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yeah, all right, let me take a break. More phone
calls coming up. Check in with the Baltimore Ravens with
Derreck Henry. He'll stop by as well. We're back after.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
This, be sure to catch the live edition of The
Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Wapp Ellen in Wisconsin, Hi Ellen, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 12 (34:37):
Great?

Speaker 14 (34:38):
Thanks for taking my call. I just want to say
you talking to the young man about waiting to get
the job at ESPN was the best graduation speech I've
ever heard. You know, like a lot of people this
time of year, I've been tortured recently having to go
to graduations. And you made five great points.

Speaker 15 (34:58):
You know, you see dream or learn, you know, learn
to evolve. You know you're not entitled in and you know,
give yourself some grace. And I just thought that was
a great, great graduation speech. In the last it's like
two minutes, so Dad and Derrick Henry is a boss.

(35:19):
So thanks for taking my.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Call, all right, Ellen? Thank you?

Speaker 7 (35:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
They You know, I have a lot of students who
asked me how to get it into the business, and
there's no direct realm. It's it's whatever path you're on.
Like I can't tell you get off your path and
go to another path. You have to figure it out,
because you know I didn't have anybody there who had

(35:45):
was my compass and said, hey, go this way, go
that way. I was desperate. I couldn't get a job
in the business. Took a job. I was doing Headline Sports.
You're not even on camera at Headline Sports, but I
was at CNN and it just so happened. Keith Oberman
was the New York reporter and Keith was leaving to

(36:06):
take a job in Boston, and my boss said, what
do you know about New York? I said everything? And
he goes, have you been there before? And I said absolutely.
He goes, would you be interested in being the New
York reporter? I'd never been to New York? Nice and
but I you know, I survived. But I bet on

(36:26):
myself and that's what you have to do. But you
have to find your your path, your time frame. But
do not put I got to be this age and
if I'm not there, I'm not successful. Or if I
don't get to ESPN, and that's not the be all
end all and being on the air. You know, these
guys have great careers. A lot of people I work

(36:46):
with at ESPN, I've been producers, coordinating producers. They're in
the business and sometimes their jobs are far more stable
than those on the air. But you get if you
want to do it, don't do it because of where
you're going to do it or how much you're going
to make, because you're going to be disappointed. Do it
because you truly want to do this for a living.

(37:08):
That's the most important part. Mike in California. Hi, Mike,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (37:14):
Hey? Dan? Hey?

Speaker 9 (37:15):
Dan?

Speaker 6 (37:15):
That's hey.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
Backroom guys just had an idea for an end of
the show. You know, rather than just do your Friday show,
if you are in Atlanta and it is a super Bowl,
why not do a Sunday Super Bowl watch just a
live webcam Dan the Dan. That's the backroom guys significant
others watch the game. Not a show, not a commentary.

(37:37):
Just we all get to sit in one last time
with these guys that we've been with every morning. And
at the end of the game, Hey, just walk over.
The one thing you have to say is thanks for
coming along for the ride.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Enjoy the switch in.

Speaker 8 (37:52):
That's history.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Are you on Mount Everest? I mean, where are you, Mike?

Speaker 8 (37:57):
Then I'll send you I'm I'm finished up by morning.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Rock, Okay, I'll let you finish up your run. Thank
you for the phone call. I'll take that under advisement
of I eventually have to have a final show. It
feels like I keep pushing the gold post here and
then there'll be a final show there. But then we're
gonna go to Atlanta to be a final show there,

(38:20):
and then they'll be the final show on that Friday.
But the final show will be on that Sunday, super
Bowl Sunday, as Todd.

Speaker 13 (38:26):
We can analyze our recap of the Super Bowl and
then do another show beyond Sunday.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Yes, maybe you do it like the end of a
soccer match where you're not exactly sure how much time
is left on the clock. So it could be like Tuesday,
March eighth, that's it, we're wrapping.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
See ya.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
So there's gonna be extra time, stoppage stoppage time.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
And just go bye bye.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Calvin in San Antonio, Hi Calvin, Hell y'all doing good morning?

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (38:53):
I want then I wanted to ask your opinion. I
heard a lot of them talk about where Giannis could go,
but what do you think about the Spurs? And hear
me out the Spurs have the number two overall pick.
They have the number fourteen overall pick. Do you think
the Bucks would be interested in not the number fourteen

(39:13):
overall pick a package of players in addition to next
year's first round pick. And I say that because a
lot of talkers about Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper. But
I can see if the Spurs were able to pull
that off and have Giannis with Wimby and Stefan Castle.
I can see a scenario where they picked as Bailey

(39:34):
number two overall and have all that linked and shot
making ability with those four Stephan Castle, as Bailey, Wimby
and Yannis, I think they'd be dangerous.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Well, I think you're gonna have to give up that
second pick. I think, if I'm trading you, Yannis, I
want your two first round picks. I'll take Steph on
Counsel and then might have to sprinkle in another couple
of draft picks or draft next year or other players.
You've got to make it work financially too. But I

(40:05):
don't think you're keeping the second pick overall if that's
you know, Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey. And I'm not
even sold on either one of them. And I watched
them play. I watched Rutgers play you know actual games.
I think I saw three games, and while they have
unbelievable talent, they just weren't great players. They would have
these highlight moments and you go, Wow. You know Ron

(40:28):
Harper's son, he can penetrate, pass, Wow, East Bailey, he
can jump. I think his name is Arius, like a
I r IOUs Arius, and but they call him Ace Bailey.
I also have a suggestion for Saquon Barkley coming up,

(40:50):
and this has to do with the cover of Madden,
and you know, maybe next time we have him on,
maybe we could workshop this a little bit. But I
do have a suggestion or him moving forward, and we'll
check in with the Patriots. We'll also talk to Derrick
Henry as well. So we got a lot coming up
in the final hour of the program on this Tuesday,

(41:11):
Todd's here, the King of Comedy is here, Seaton's here,
Marvin Paulie. It's my twenty third anniversary since meeting Todd
and working together.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Happy anniversary, Thank you, Todd.
