Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our two. On this Monday, Dan and the
dan 's Dan Patrick Show come on. In stay a while.
Busy Sports Weekend talked about a variety of things. There
was golf, Xanders Shoftley. You also had the WNBA All
Star Game, Shoho Tani hit a bomb, Dodgers hit a
(00:22):
lot of bombs over the weekend. Stat of the Day
brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of the program. Let the Games begin, the Olympic Games.
We'll start in a couple of days in Paris, and
the tune up for the US Olympic team didn't go
well as scripted. With South Sudan. They were forty five
(00:42):
point favorites. They held on to win thanks to Lebron.
James with a It's it's weird to say this. You know,
Lebron had a clutch layup against South Sudan. They're like, uh,
wait a minute, you don't put those two together. Give
credit to South Sudan because this meant everything in the
world to them. Team USA, it didn't mean anything to them,
(01:04):
But this is what you have to guard against every
team you play. Once you they're ready for you. They're
gonna give you everything.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
You got guys who are all time greats. And there's
like a loose ball. I don't think I'm gonna dive
South Sudan. You're gonna have everybody diving for that loose ball.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yes, Carlos Royo has been dining out off of his
performance against the US and the Olympics for twenty years.
Like who's Carlins Royal? You say he was an okay
point guard, but he went off against the Americans and
beat beat them in the Olympics. M hey, best performance
of his life. Yeah, And so if you're South Sudan,
this is our like gold medal game no matter what.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
And Team USA is still a prohibitive favorite here, followed
by Canada, France, Serbia and Greece. And Team USA still
waiting to get Kevin Durant back. But still you would
think with that amount of talent, you know, so when
we go down the roster of South Sudan and then
somebody says, yeah, they got a kid who's going to
play at duke with Cooper flag, Okay, although they had
(02:04):
a couple of guys who played a little bit in
the NBA. Okay, they don't even have an indoor facility
in South Sudan to play basketball until recently. Okay, Team
USA had to get a clutch layup from Lebron. It's inexcusable.
I'm gonna give South Sudan credit because they played hard.
(02:27):
That's their Olympics. They're playing against Team USA that win.
Even the fact that they went toe to toe and
barely lost, I can't imagine how that is going to
be received or was received in South Sudan. And they're
trying to grow this. I mean, this is a movie
waiting to happen. Remember Cool Runnings. I mean, that's what
(02:47):
this is. With what Louel Dang who played in the NBA,
played at Duke. He's trying to cobble this together, no facilities,
he's paying for it. It's truly what they bordered on
one of the greatest upsets in basketball history. And I
know it's a friendly and Team USA, well, you know
(03:07):
they're going through the motions there. This was monumental and
I don't know if it's a wake up call. I
don't know if it's a red flag. It's just you
can have the most talented roster ever more talented than
the Dream Team. It's just the dream team. They were
going against countries that really didn't have a developed basketball program.
(03:28):
These countries now, for the most part, like Serbia does.
Serbia has got the best player in the world. France
is going to have Victor Wembniyama, Rudy Gobert, Greece is
always competitive. Canada's got a ton of NBA you know,
roster experience, so they're going to get their best out
of these other countries. The countries are better than they
(03:49):
were in nineteen ninety two, but they're better because of
nineteen ninety two. All Right, poll question from hour one
is going to be what Seaton O'Connor, we're clean it up?
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Yeah, we're put up there. We just put up there.
Who had the worst weekend? Not to be negative, but
the men's USA basketball or women's USA basketball.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Oh it's the worst week Oh the men?
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Oh yeah by far.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's funny that the men did in a win.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Yes, yes, but that's a loss.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
That's a loss. That is that that's a terrible, terrible look.
You know, Team USA WNBA lost to the WNBA All Stars.
The last time they did this in an Olympic year,
there's a lot of talent, a lot of talent, and
everything seems to be lining up for the WNBA. The
(04:40):
timing of that now going into the Olympics, the fact
that that WNBA All Star team is probably the second
best team in the world and beating Team USA, you know,
just kind of heightens the talent level that you have
in the WNBA team USA versus South Sudan.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Not in my lifetime, not in my lifetime. Made for
a movie, and it almost happened when we do the
documentary on this team. Is the storyline here, that's when
we knew we were in trouble or that was the
week i'p call we needed.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Then then you go, you know, there's.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Always a pivotal moment where it was like Kobe ran
through Pal's chest and we were like, oh, we're winning this.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Well, then you get the voiceover Liev Shrei, who does
hard knocks, you know, and then the South Sudan game,
it changed things. It changed a mindset and it helped
lead Team USA to a gold medal. We'd galvanized. Yes,
we're galvanized. I love that, all right. So best and
(05:46):
worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked
you didn't like. A lot of people still try to
come up with my boat name, and we're taking those suggestions,
wonderful suggestions, and thank you for taking time out from
your busy day to call in. And a lot of
people have never called into the show, but they finally
found a reason because they were trying to find the
(06:06):
perfect boat name for my pontoon boat.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
Yes, Paul, I was at a marina this weekend, ironically,
and I saw a lot of pontoon boats, a lot
of other boats. I was walking the boatyard, as they
call it, and there's a lot of creative names. A
lot are about like I'd made it in life, you know,
like retirement, like mint with a you know, dollar sign
on it. There's a lot of references like that. I
did see a few pontoon boats and they did have names.
(06:30):
Oh one was I gotta say this right ship faced
ship face s H I, P F A C D.
And it's like a tiki bar.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Okay, it was fun. Where was the name of the boat?
Speaker 5 (06:44):
It was on the side of the boat because it's easier.
There's more room there.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Okay, because in the back you have the the engine there.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
I saw a couple in the back and a couple
on the side with pontoons.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
All right, so maybe I do it on the side.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yes, a pontoon boat sort of strikes me as like
the El Camino of the boat world.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Is that fair? I hope you mean by being really
really cool.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Yeah, and all, but also sort of like it's really
cool in a utilitarian but badass kind of way.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I love El Caminos. I'm not. I'm not sliding El Caminos. Okay,
they are. They're unique in the automobile world. Because I'm
going to stick up for the El Camino.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
You're taking it as a slide and it's I am okay,
all right. I didn't say, like the pinto if are
you sliding my pontoon boat.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
I'm not, but they're But pontoon boats are also very
unique in the boating world, are they not? Yes, right,
just like an El Camino is it's a party barge,
all right? Party barge sounds rad I'm not, Yeah, Paul, I.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Would say the player comp for a pontoon boat. You know,
when you go to like an event rist city and
you're on one of those those uh mini vans, those
travel buses where everyone's on it and drinking and air conditioning,
and everyone's yelling and screaming and having fun. Those party
vans to like New York City or wherever you're going.
That's a pontoon boat. It's technically a boat and it
(08:07):
is on the water, but it's basically a social atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
But if I was going to actually have an actual
athlete who represents what the pontoon boat represents to the
boating community, oh, always fun. Is there a comp where
whatever sport it is, you'd go. You know what, he's
the pontoon boat of his sport.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Travis Kelcey. Travis Kelcey run around him at all times.
Probably underrated.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
He's a little higher end, I think than a pund
I think, Jason Kelcey. I feel like, now you're disparaging
pontoon boats. Well, now I'm trying to be reasonable, Like
you know, when you know parents talk about their kids. Oh,
he's in the eighty seventh percentile, Or I'm trying to
downplay the pontoon boat a little bit.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Is Pitbull the pontoon boat of halftime performers.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
He's got a lot of hits. He's got a lot
of hits. He had a lot of hits.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
He just might not be You know, if you're like
thinking of like different types of sailboats, it's like, all right, yeah,
there's the tailor source beyonces of the sailboat in community
or motorized boats whatever, motor boats. But I think he's
gonna it's a solid.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Perform like a boat. No, he's like a jet ski.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Dang that what He's just kind of high energy, annoying.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
Ye yes, I'll throw this at you. The music comp
for a pontoon boat, the surfer acoustics singer Jack Johnson, fun, likable, breezy,
easy listening, drinking your hand, Okay.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Not going too fast, I would say more. Jimmy Buffett Okay,
old school Kenny Chesney.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Here you go.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Maybe like that Chesney? Yeah, yeah, like Jack Johnson. We
pat him on. Wonderful person. Big I got hit. Jimmy Buffett,
God rest his soul. So maybe Kenny Chesney kind of
a punch boat ponto tour. You imagine this gets back
to Kenny Chesney. Wait, what what did he call me?
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Kenny?
Speaker 1 (10:06):
You know what, you're sort of the pond in boat
of country music. Maybe you know what Blake Shelton might
be more Pontoon than Kenny Chesney.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Maybe maybe a pontoon boat couldn't score. Gwen Stefani, I'm
not the first person to say that phrase back to you.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
How about p O N t U n E ontoon?
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
I got you? Yeah, I got you.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
And instead of a money sign, it's a treble cleft.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Cool kidding.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, it feels like we're already at a Friday the
way we started out this Monday, possibly a Sunday. Still, Yeah,
best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that
you liked you didn't like. Good morning. If you're watching
on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app. The Olympic
Games return live from Paris on NBC and Peacock. Our
show will still be on Peacock when the Olympic Games start,
(11:11):
so you know you can watch both. You know you
can flip back and forth whatever you need to do,
but we will be here. We're always here for you.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Back to the big story, Team USA holding on for
dear life. Here is Steve Kerr talking about the close
call with South Sudan.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
The ending was was good for us, just to feel that,
you know, to feel what it's going to be like
in Paris and Leel so good experience for us. Good
reminder that when we play against teams, it's the biggest
game of their lives and.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
We have to expect everyone to play like that. Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Also, Lebron James has been named the flag bearer for
the Olympics, especially on the fact.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
That you know, to get an opportunity to you know,
represent your country, you know, and in another fashion, you know,
to be able to understand how your prestigious you know,
this moment is and for someone to have it to
be the flag bearrier and then to wave the flag
for not only for us as a man's national team,
but for all the Olympians. I hold that with the
(12:21):
utmost honor. And now it's definitely something that that that
in my family and my community and my friend is
something able to live on forever and super appreciative and.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Super humble about.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Okay, this isn't a knock on Lebron. This is a
knock on Team U. I say, if we're going to
announce that you are the flag bearer, can we have
it in a setting where Lebron's the.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Only voice, like a ping pong tournament. Going on the
back round.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yes, so it'd be like if hey, Dan, you just
got inducted into the Sportscasting Hall of Fame. And then
I start talking, and then all the Dan needs started talking. Well,
this is wonderful arm here. And I just want to
say in my family.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Emotional and in the history of the world, and I
just I.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Co do we have maybe set aside a room where
Lebron come on in. You're gonna be bringing the flag in.
You were voted by fellow Olympians to bring in the.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Flag USA basketball they have the exclusive.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Yes, and and they screwed that up like they did
South Sudan.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Oh. I can't believe like we're somehow giving credit to
South Sudan without just saying this is all about blaming
Team USA. You guys want it, then go get it.
Stop goofing around. There was part of me I want
a Team USA to lose just for the story. I
mean it didn't mean anything for the gold medal, but
(13:54):
just to kind of force South Sudan because they played
so hard and they cared so much. And then you're like,
I want them to win. That's a better story. And
they made their threes. This is what It comes down
to if you get a country that makes its threes
against the United States, then there's a chance that there's
going to be an upset. If Patty Mills and Australia
(14:18):
hit their threes, then you could have an upset like that.
That's probably what it'll come down to.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Yes, Marvin Evan.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Fortier is Larry byrd yep in international competation. She is
c plus. NBA players are the scariest people international play.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
By the way, coming up, John Harball, I hope my
wife talks about me the way John Harball talks about
Lamar Jackson. My wife hopes that I talk about her
the way John Harball talks about Lamar Jackson. I was like,
wait a minute, what well that for you? Coming up next?
(14:54):

called over Promised. You see we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Yeah, you blubber, list lame me.
Speaker 8 (15:29):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 9 (15:33):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna

sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
A little harder.

It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 9 (15:57):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Best and Worst of the weekend NFL training camps opening
up this week. This is that window of opportunity. If
you didn't seize the opportunity, then you're not going to
be able to because this is when the NFL and
college football take over. You got the Olympics, and the
Olympics will be getting a lot of headlines. There's stories
(16:29):
that will come out, whether it's success or failure that
you know, the Olympics always generates content. There's always a
story where you go, I didn't expect that, or a
few of those, and you'll have that. The Olympics that
set to open up on Friday, Adrian Beltray, Todd Hilton,
Joe Mauer, Jim Leland go into the Baseball Hall of Fame,
(16:49):
and Xander Schoffley Final Round sixty five, the Championship golfer
Zender Showfley also the WNBA. The Star Team beat the
Olympic team. Here is Caitlin Clark being asked about that accomplishment.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Any vindication in the fact that you beat the Olympic
team and you guys were not selected to that team.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
No, I mean they're really good.
Speaker 10 (17:16):
They have plenty of talent on that team. I'm like,
I mean it's the same I think four years prior.
I'm pretty sure the Team WNBA beat Team USA. They
were perfectly fine in the Olympics. Like, if anything, it
shows how good this league is, Like it shows how
much talent is in this league and how you have
to show up and prepare every single night.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Good answer, And no, it's not vindication. You want to
be on the Olympic team because you beat the Olympic team.
And Kaitlyn Clark didn't shoot well, But she's such an
unbelievable passer and that's what you still you should marvel
at this season shooting wise, she's still trying to figure
out how she can get to certain spots on the
(17:55):
floor because the physicality is far greater than it was
in college. But the passing, the passing is always going
to be there. That ability, it's just it's God given.
You're it's in eight that you find the open person.
Somehow you see something before somebody else does. But you know,
Arique Ugunbaile my pick for the person who got snubbed
(18:19):
the most couple of weeks ago. She went off, she
didn't score in the first half, and once she had
thirty two in the second half, she was unstoppable. She's
the one who got snubbed because she's been in the
league for a few years, she's won a national title.
She is a scorer.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Yeah, Pauline, it was like a body switching movie. It
was like Team Wolf. She came out in the second
half and it looked like the rest of people were
just standing around watching because she was every shot she
threw up one in.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
John Harball, the Ravens head coach, had some really nice
things to say about Lamar Jackson. I don't know where
this came from. I don't know why he had these
things to say about Lamar Jackson, who I think went
home from practice recently he was sick. But it, man,
everybody wants a cheering section. Like John Harball, the Ravens.
Speaker 11 (19:14):
The vision for Lamar Jackson, and it's a vision. It's
something you see it like it's already happened. You can
see it like it's already been done. The victory has
already been won when you pour into a vision. And
the vision that we have together is a Lamar Jackson
is going to become and be known and be recognized
as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history
of the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
That's the vision, all right.
Speaker 11 (19:36):
It's going to happen by Lamar his work ethic and
his brilliant talent, by all of us pouring into that
effort together as a team, teamwork, and by the grace
of God and God's goodwill.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
So is it going to happen? If these things happen,
then he'll be the greatest quarterback of all time? And
why now, I mean, two time MVP, does he need
a pep talk the media down on Lamar Jackson? I
mean regular season I'm not postseason like. You can't say
this given the backdrop of his postseason failures. They should
(20:13):
have beaten Kansas City last year. You're at home. I mean,
you can't overlook that. But why do you have to
be the greatest of all time? Why can't He's going
to be one of the greatest of all time? Now
now it's going to be uh yeah, coach, when's Lamar
going to be the goat? That was a subpart performance.
(20:36):
Hey you bounced. You got bounced in the second round
of the postseason. It's just Lamar doesn't need this. He's
already got enough pressure of well, good regular season. This
is Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers, But four MVPs won Super
Bowl like Lamar would kill to get that one super Bowl.
(21:01):
He doesn't even get close. But I was just surprised,
Like all it does is shine a brighter light on
his postseason failures. That's it, because you look at the
regular season, the Ravens are one of those Yeah, let's
wait to the postseason. Like there's certain teams where you go, yeah,
it doesn't matter, the Cowboys, doesn't matter.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
Let me see what you do in the postseason, and.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
The Ravens are in that category of Yeah, the Buffalo Bills, Hey,
what an unbelievable regular seat man Josh Allen was bawling
up all right.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Let me see how you guys do in Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
That's it. But now you've shined a light on his
postseason and it's not good, and that which I don't know.
All of a sudden, you know, John has to give
him a pep talk. Yes, DoD, if that was.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Andy Reid talking about Patrick Mahomes, I'd be a little
hesitant to go A long way to go, Harb.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
That is fair, And you're right. If Andy Reid's going
to go, he'll be the greatest of all time. You know,
it's it's already there, and the vision and all okay,
all right, he still got Tom to overcome here, but
all right, at least open to that idea.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Like he's trying to speak something into existence by saying
he is going to be the best quarterback of all time,
be through.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
His hard working he is going to do this. Yeah,
Or that's when Harball say, hey, I had the vision,
he wasn't able to produce. It's not on me, Blame
it on Lamar, yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
I generally like when coaches over support their players or
over support the quarterbacks. Remember Harball, Like five months ago
by the draft, JJ McCarthy is going to be the
best of all timer, was the best all time in Michigan.
I don't know the purpose of it here with Harball,
I don't see the purpose of it. It actually just
puts a bigger spotlight on your guy in July, which
you don't need. I was just.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Like, why did anybody say, John? I know, like, why
are you saying this now? I mean that would have
been I would have started with that where I'd go, coach,
where's this coming from? I don't know if anybody's doubting
Lamar Jackson in July last January they were, but that's
(23:17):
because it's the postseason. You can't be the greatest of
all time unless you win championships. Right, That's that's where
you got to start. You want to be how about
you do this.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Be the greatest raven of all time?
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Because that's pretty good list. I'd start there. You're not
better than Patrick Mahomes and that's you know contemporary. You
win these MVPs. When you win MVPs, but you don't
win anything, that's when we start to look at yeah,
you know, just go back to Joker, you know, MVP,
(23:54):
but now I want a title. Now no one ever
questions him, Yoannis MVP. Yeah, but then you win a title.
Joe el Embiid MVP.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Yeah, well doesn't want anything.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
That's it's kind of the end of the paragraph. There,
win a title and nobody second guesses you anymore. Justin Herbert,
all right, now show me something in the postseason. That's
what it comes down to at that position, win a championship,
get to the super Bowl. I mean, Joe Burrows at
least gotten to the super Bowl. These other quarterbacks they're
(24:30):
not getting close. And that's what this is all about.
Get there. Win When you win two of your six
postseason games. That is not on the doorstep of greatest
of all time?
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yes, Mark, Yeah, right now, Lamar Jackson's Carl Malone, He's
not Michael Jordan. He's got MVPs, but no championships.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Carl got one MVP.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
He's got two MVPs.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Carl has two mm hm.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Then getting ninety nine and the lockout lockout season.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
Oh, lockout does asterisk? Yeah, Carl snuck one in the
eighty eighty nine ninety nine Lockout season forty nine games
m VP.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Okay asterisk Yeah, definitely okay, I said, corrected, I didn't
know one too.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
I'll give anyone who finished second in the nineteen ninety
eight ninety nine NBA MVP. Wow, shocking second place, good player,
tough player, not an all time great Okay, finish second

(25:41):
of the names that were third, fourth, fifth, Duncan third,
iris In fourth, Jason Kidd fifth, Shack sixth, Carl Malone first,
and it was close.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Holy cow, Jamal Mashburn.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
No, that's a deep cut by You give me two
points for that.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Bloop bloop, Marvin, you got one.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Alonzo morning.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Alansa Morning is cracked. Look at this Guyvin walk off
and Morning only lost by thirty sixty votes. That's pretty close.
Duncan was third eye. Wow Morning, Dang dude, you could
have stolen good Shocking Morning Shocking Eyah.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Jamal Mashbur was a great guest, though, mash for not
in top twenty.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
All of those nights that you never went out on dates,
Marvin and you just sat there and you were reading magazines.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Watching off, watching inside stuff. Yeah you know. Yeah, I
had a VHS view with Isaiah Thomas and these greatest games.
Watch that at nauseam, Like, wow, I don't have a life.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Summer Sanders, come on Willow Bay, willowho Bay Saturday. Yeah
you can depend on my shot and Willow bad shot
and the inside stuff. Has anybody had a better life
than a mod was shot?
Speaker 5 (26:57):
By the way, Willow Bay could have talked about insurance,
I would have watched it. Rates are up.
Speaker 12 (27:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
I didn't hear her say anything, we'll obey. Remember first
time I met her in person, I was like, okay,
I'm supposed to be talking, not staring.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
You're pretty meet in person And so was a mod.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Yes, Oh, let's get as flawless yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
I remember a mod saying to me, he goes, Man,
you worked too hard. I go, well, yeah, I got
to he goes. You know what I did today? I said, what,
he goes? I went outside. I got in one of
my Mercedes. I startted it up, drove it around the block,
parked it back in the garage, and then I went inside.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Take a few years for that to get boring.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I said, uh, wow, that's a that's a great life.
I prefer to be a little more active than that.
But he plays golf with Michael Jordan. Uh never asked
her worry about gear. He's always got Nike whenever he
needs it, smoking great cigars. And I remember walking into
a bar when I was in New York and he
(28:07):
this US Open was going on and I was working
at CNN. There was a tennis player, Andria thames Varif
if you google Andria Thames Var the dollar every time
you asked me to do that. It's one of those
(28:27):
where I walk into the bar and I saw mad
and I saw I think her name is Andrea tames Vari.
I don't know if she ever really played tennis that much,
but I just know that she looked like she could
play tennis. She looked like she could do whatever she
needed to do.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
She looks like she'd be in a movie about a
star tennis player as the starring role.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Yes, tone, Yeah, she's from Hungary. She won the Italian
Open at age sixteen.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Okay, injuries, you were hungry?
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yes, I was, Andria Thames vari. I don't like it's
weird remembering some of these names. Well that's a beautiful
then now, but yeah, I just remember a mod I
walked in and he's cozying up to Ander Timasafari. All right,
some phone calls here, boat names if you have, those
will give you our best and worst of the weekend
(29:15):
is Alabama naming the field. So this is Bryant Denny Stadium. Correct,
they're going to name the field, yes, Saban Field at
Bryant Denny Stadium. Okay, it is official. Did they do
this with coach k and lut Olsen? I think they
named floors?
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Yes, the court, yes, the court of the floor. Okay,
I think yeah. University Alabama System board of Trustees has
put Nick Saban's name on the field. Okay, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Six national titles and but it's weird they're going to
put it in both end zones. And I think that's
a little too much there, you know, yes, and the.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Concession peanuts are now D's nuts. That's what you have
to say.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
Enough, you're not getting Bear Bryant's name off that stadium.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
No, no, they used but Denny. I mean you might
get his off there.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
He was the president of the university honestly, like one
hundred eighty years ago.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
You can kick him to the curb. Oh no, maybe
you put fine bomb on there.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
Fine bomb Journals. They would sign up for that.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Just his face there, Paul, Fine bomb Journals.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
You all fine boumb flush.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Yeah, flush with success.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Hey, to get the field is pretty good.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
You're not getting the stadium, yeah yeah, yeah, well they can't.
You cannot like you can't do Bryant, Denny's state, a
saban stadium, a law firm.
Speaker 5 (30:42):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Uh, Scott Louisiana, Hi Scott, what's on your mind?
Speaker 7 (30:49):
Dan?
Speaker 13 (30:50):
Anytown an?
Speaker 5 (30:54):
N Okay?
Speaker 13 (30:58):
How about they could not care Lip? He did not
care Lip could.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Not care less kN o t all right. There's a
lot of a lot of creative names out there.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
A lot of horrible cell phone connection that's true.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
He's like stuck in the TV setter, So you gotta
get hid of.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
It, Uh, Tim and Dallas. Hi Tim, what's on your
mind today? Good morning? Dan?
Speaker 2 (31:23):

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Tim?
Speaker 14 (31:26):
Five eleven, two fifteen.
Speaker 12 (31:30):
Got two names, so you oh Danny.
Speaker 14 (31:33):
Bowie eu o y okay, and it's like two drops
of water blue blue ooh.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
I'm going to give you credit for both of those, Tim,
Thank you. I think I was in first grade, second grade,
and I got up and sang, oh Danny boy, And
it was Saint Patti's Day, and my mom dressed me
up in all green and I just sang my heart out.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
The chicks like it. My mom was bawling, I mean
the chicks in class. No, I don't.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
I had no game, zero game. It didn't singers though,
I know, but you know, back then I probably had
that really high oh d you know instead of this
oh Danny boy.
Speaker 13 (32:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
The pipes, the pipes are calling from Glenn to Glenn. Yeah, no,
Todd not singing.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
I can't get that high words to them.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
All right, let me take a break. When we come back.
Summer League title is on the line tonight. Summer League basketball. Yeah, yeah,
you got to pick your winners. We remember a couple
of years ago when we made the Memphis Grizzlies Summer
League champion. Yes, all right, we'll take a break back
(33:01):
after this. Be sure to catch the live edition of
The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
We will give you our best and worst of the
weekend coming up eight seven seven three d P Show
email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter HANDLEADP Show
(33:21):
Seed and update the poll results if you can. I
sure caned in. I would love to update you. Okay,
pole results. Who had the worst weekend? That's kind of negative.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
But USA Men's team, USA Women's team right now, it's
sixty one percent men's team.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
What is wrong with this audience?
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Though?
Speaker 5 (33:41):
They have been really sharp. Okay, I'm going to have to.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Do a little little more work to help them understand
that WNBA All Star Team is the second best basketball
team in the world and they beat the Olympic team.
South sud Dan was a forty five point underdog. It
took a Lebron James layup. They didn't even get the
full Sudan. It was just the South Sudan.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Yes, Mark South Sudan has been a country for fourteen years.
Lebron James have been a NBA player for twenty one years.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Memphis Grizzlies versus the Miami Heat tonight eight Eastern and
what's at stake? Summer League Championship. We're gonna have to
give a Summer League MVP. By the way, Scottie Pippen
Juniors on the team. He's he put the Grizzlies on
(34:40):
his back. During Sunday semifinal win over the Clippers. He
had triple double. Jalen Wells had twenty eight.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Okay, so who am I take? Let's see.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Josh Hart, a former Summer League Yes, that's when I
fell in love with Josh Hart's game Summer of twenty eighteen,
and we had him on and he was a great guest.
The Knicks guard Josh Hart was chewing it up there
in the Summer League.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Kevin Knox my Summer League legend. I know Kevin Knox,
how about Kobe Brown? But Kevin Knox had thirty one
and eleven. I guess I'm gonna have to go with
Scottie Pippen Junior.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
The third here.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Zach Eaty will not be playing because he has a
banged a bangle that would have been Pauli's pick.
Speaker 5 (35:37):
I'm not watching.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
I got Memphis. I mean, I'm all in on Memphis.
One of these two teams will walk away with the trophy.
I do think that they upgraded the All Star Game
WNBA All Star Game MVP. Remember when Kelsey Plumb won
it and it looked like something that you won and
it was a consolation prize and that person and gets
(36:00):
that trophy that's four feet high, and you get this one,
and then it was that was the MVP trophy that
was that was terrible. But they definitely upgraded. This one
had like crystals and it looked really pretty and it
was nice and you could actually put it out and
be proud of putting. Get out there. Let me see here.
(36:23):
Moe in Arizona. Moe is back.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
I'm out morning, Dan Dennez. I've got a couple of
names for your boat. The first my best and worst
my best with Otani hitting that ball like pretty much
out of the park. Second would be finally tuned into
a summer league game and Ronnie's not even playing, so anyway,
I got two names for your boat.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
One will go Dan overboard.
Speaker 13 (36:50):
And the the big Boutie.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
The big.
Speaker 13 (36:55):
Booty, Yeah Booty.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
All the booty. Okay, I'm sorry, I think it's something else.
I'm like, that's not me, big butte. Wasn't there an
NBA player who's b o U t e? Wh wasn't
there a boute? Yeah, Marvin, you should know this.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
Yeah that went over my head. Okay, John David Booty
I remember.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Oh okay. And then didn't you have a brother like
named Sheriff Booty or something general by general general, not specific,
not John Sheriff, general, very general Booty.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
In general Booty, Lieutenant Booty, Lieutenant.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
Diyan from the general.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
There is I mean you gotta have General Booty on
the general. Uh you know the car insurance with shaq
uh your name is general?
Speaker 5 (37:59):
Yes it is.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
H Adam and Virginia. Hey Adam, what's on your mind?
Speaker 12 (38:06):
Hey Dan, thanks for taking my call first time, long time,
I got too quick bests for you. And then a
boat name. Get a shout out to my son Nicholas
that made his first Advanced soccer team as a goalie
and got to do a road trip with my oldest
son Greg to go to Indianapolis to the race.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Boat name for you.
Speaker 14 (38:23):
How's the stat of.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
The bay staut of the bay? Pretty good? Pretty good?
Oh it's Moote that's right, not butte right ton? Okay, yeah,
you remember that.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I see a Luke Maba.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
I think that's it.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Yeah, I think so. There was Reuben boom j Boomjay
from Georgetown power Forward.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
It's a little different, but Mute didn't play at Georgetown?
Did he u c l a? Oh? Did he go
to U clink?
Speaker 5 (38:56):
That might might be a bloop there. I think so.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
It's possibly a blue Sam and Saint Louis. Hi Sam,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (39:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (39:06):
Hi Dan, probably six time caller five eleven two o five.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (39:13):
First, I wanted to give a shout out to Todd.
I love the This is Sports Center impressions. And since
you already talked about Lebron today, I need to bring
up the Cowboys and I bet.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
You equal time.
Speaker 13 (39:25):
Absolutely, I will bet you a pie to the faith
the Cowboys win the Super Bowl before you.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Retire, before I retire. Okay, does anybody want to take
Sam up on that? Ben Todd? Yeah, Todd's in on
it right now. Anybody else want a piece of Sam
Squirman on the other side, you think that the Cowboys
are going to win a super Bowl before we retire? Yes,
(39:57):
before this show ends December twenty fourth of twenty twenty seven.
Now you get the benefit of that season. It doesn't
matter what they do in that season, right.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
I was gonna say, does the super Bowl that happens
just after this last show count? No? Yes, No, it's
it's even though it's any same s before we retire,
is what Sam said. Yes, marm I mean on the
Patrick Mahon still plays, so.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
He does he still?
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, the Cowboys aren't winning anything? Yeah, right, I'm in
all right, Sam, We got a couple of takers there
for you, all right, Sam, okay, all right, all right, Okay,
Well hopefully Dak's contract is done by then, and CD
Lambs and Mica Parsons.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
There's certain storylines that you just want them to go away,
just and look, do we cover when we need to?
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Yes, we don't cover because we're told here's the research
people want to hear about the Cowboys. I want to
tell you about the Cowboys when it warrants. All right,
Final Hour coming up, our best and worst of the weekend.
More phone calls as well, and still trying to find
(41:14):
a name for my boat.
