Speaker 4 (00:29):
Now?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Albert Breer, the Monday Morning quarterback, will join us coming
up a little bit. We'll talk to him about the
latest news that Aaron Rodgers will be in camp. Mandatory
mini camp kicks off on June tenth. The well respected
insider Jerry Dulac, a frequent guest on this program Pittsburgh
Post Gazette, is the one who broke the news, saying
(00:52):
Rogers informed the stealers that he will not only sign
but plans to attend the mandatory mining camp that will
kick off coming up next week eight seven seven to three.
DP Show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at
DP show. I did ask the back room guys, I said,
could you make up a graphic because you know at
the start of the NFL season, so we can let
(01:14):
our audience know, you know, how many days we have
a countdown clock and uh so you have the number
of days and hours and minutes and seconds. And then
this is when Mario, the director of the show, puts
that up on the screen to let the uh.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
No, one's better than us.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
I think we need a countdown clock for when we're
getting the countdown clock.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Okay, okay, here five four, three, two? Why what? Okay,
there's see this is how can we win a sports hemmy.
We had planned this out. We came sure you play yes?
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Or did you just bring it on them?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
No, gotta feel sprung rather than he No, No, Paully's
seen this before.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
We had this big graphic made up and I said,
dress it up with fireworks, and we're gonna get ahead
of you know, ESPN and Fox and anybody else, and
we're gonna we're gonna show that how many days.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
And we're not really planners on the show. We're more
like throw an idea out and then five days later
be like.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Do the idea?
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Oh yes, yes, mort but I think it takes a
little bit longer. This is the disconnect between the talent
and the truck guys. We call them the truck guys, Like,
how come is that up? Because you didn't say it
was going to be you're gonna put it up to me.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
I just went in the back and talked to Mario.
Speaker 7 (02:44):
Oh, they never mind. Then that's all Marios and.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I saw the graphic and I said, oh, okay, you
know now Aaron Rodgers. Now we can focus on the
start of the NFL season. Aaron Rodgers is back. Everybody
can take a deep breath, and now we can get ready. Oh,
we get this graphic up in time for those watching
on people.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Oh good question.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
I'll tell you what. It's certainly setting up for a
grand reveal. Oh no, we've already had it up. You said,
we've we've shown before. Yeah, there it is, and here's
the big reveal. And look at the fireworks. Oh this
is incredible. Is this from the mind of Dan Patrick? Yes, yes, yeah,
it looks like techmobile from the old day?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yes, okay. Now we have to put.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Up the days, in the hours, in the minutes and
the seconds. So it's a big reveal.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Here it comes.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
I'll tell you what, if we don't win a Sports Emmy,
we're definitely winning a Marconi for this radio Yeah weird crushing.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah yeah, nothing like disavowing any knowledge of your radio audience.
Podcast is sure. Oh my god.
Speaker 8 (03:53):
No, but as long as it gets up in the
next ninety six days and twelve hours before the actual
kickoff of the sea and I think we're still okay.
Speaker 9 (04:01):
Yeah, yes, you know you mentioned entering us in other
sports Emmy categories. Can we honestly enter best Achievements and
Technical directing or best Achievements and Technical Innovation for this?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (04:17):
AnyWho? How about them Pacers?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
They beat the Thunder last night in a last second
shot by Tyrese Haliburton, and once again it sounded like this.
Speaker 10 (04:28):
Jildes Alexander Spins pulls up jumper off themar We'll go
rebound d Spinner, patients will a chance to win it, Haliverton. Looker,
Halliverton driving pulls off jump shot.
Speaker 11 (04:41):
Bit's gone with three.
Speaker 12 (04:42):
Tons of a second verting time out. Okay, see Tyrese Halliburton.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Does it again.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Pacers have five playoff wins this postseason when trailing by
at least fifteen And case you're wondering, what's the point
spread for you? Game two? It's okay, see favored by eleven.
You have Game two Panthers and the Oilers coming up
tonight as well. Now, if you're a commissioner of the NHL,
(05:11):
commissioner of the NBA, you got what you wanted. You
got excitement with Game one Edmonton and overtime against Florida,
and then of course they come back with Indiana last night.
Because if Tyree's Haliburton misses the shot, then people are
gonna go, well, all right, they survived a little scare there,
and they're probably gonna win in five something like that.
(05:31):
And you might still say they're still gonna win in five,
but at least if you have a puncher's chance, when
somebody says they have no chance, I should take away
your scholarship. If you're a member of the media and
you say somebody doesn't have a chance, you have a chance.
They had a chance, and they took advantage of the chance.
And now at least they've got Oklahoma City's attention, and
(05:54):
maybe they've got the casual basketball fans attention, like okay,
but you want to talk talk about a postseason for
the ages. Tyrese Haliburton stat of the Day brought to
you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the
Dan Patrick Show. Six Men, Six Women, So Many Ladders.
Find out which WWE superstars will be the new Mister
(06:17):
and Missus Money in the Bank Live Saturday at seven eastern,
four Pacific only on Peacock Countdown at five eastern two Pacific.
Speaker 9 (06:25):
Yes, Paul, Dan and the I team just got the
news and an update on our graphic, the countdown graphic
to the NFL season. Statement from the back room quote
the computer that we had that on just completely died.
Stand by an updated I just have there it is.
We have it now as a statement from the back Okay.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
We have ninety days, ten hours, twelve minutes, in ten
seconds before the start of the NFL season. That clock
that's live. How sure are we at? That's actually I
have no idea. I have no idea. To be honest
with you, I'm going to guess it's probably not accurate.
I mean just gonna say, Okay.
Speaker 8 (07:04):
It's hard to mail to the exact second for anybody,
even the NFL executives may not have an executive.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Whole question for hour two is gonna be one Seaton?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Oh Man?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Uh better?
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Oysters East Coast West Coast Gulf Coast.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Right now the.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
Voting is in exactly that order. East Coast is forty
seven percent of the vote. You've made a good point though,
that East Coast is awake, West Coast is waking. Yeah,
and who the pacers will dot dot dot win the series?
Lose in five losing seven? Right now it is almost
a dead heat between when the series and loser six
or seven.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Todd sent me a text, he goes, okay, so what
now thunder and five thunder and six thunder and seven?
Pacers in four?
Speaker 3 (07:49):
What question?
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Mark pacers in five? Slow your role? Pacers in six
or pacers in seven?
Speaker 7 (07:56):
I'm curious where the pulses? Haven't you know what that
whole recency biased thing? Where is everybody? If you don't
have a dog in the race and you don't carry
the way which team wins? Like, where are we going
with this game? One result?
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I think it's a dog, dog in the fun, dog
in the race, dog in the race. It should be
a dog four, a horse in the fight.
Speaker 7 (08:15):
But aren't you curious?
Speaker 9 (08:16):
Like what?
Speaker 7 (08:16):
I wonder what the average sports fan thinks of? Like
where how is this going to end?
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Now?
Speaker 7 (08:19):
Especially if your thought was gonna possibly a sweep.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
I don't know if anybody has changed their opinion unless
you said, okay, see in four. But other than that,
if you say five, those people probably feel like it
could still be five games.
Speaker 8 (08:31):
Pacers played dad twenty five turnovers and they still won.
That's gotta make your stut to think a little bit
things that make it go for sure.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Right, bonus break down there.
Speaker 8 (08:42):
I'm still saying thunder at six anyway, but I'm just
saying to others that they say, whoa where does that
cod happen?
Speaker 2 (08:46):
And then todd sends me a text yesterday. I get
a lot of messages from Todd. I was playing golf yesterday.
Speaker 7 (08:52):
They're all pretty harmless though, I know, but it's.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Just I'm playing golf.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
And then I could hear my phone and I shouldn't
have put my phone on vibrate, but I just in
case my wife needed to get a hold of me,
anybody in the family emergency.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And I hear it.
Speaker 12 (09:08):
I don't remember what I said to you said.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
If I'm a Steeler fan today, I'm mainly annoyed, apathetic, happy, relieved,
or super excited.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
Think those are fair, you know, the whole gamut of emotions.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I didn't I didn't need to get that yesterday afternoon.
I mean, that saved some of your good stuff for
the morning.
Speaker 8 (09:27):
I felt like you needed to know right away how
I felt about that particular right in the middle of
your golf.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
I know, and I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
If you were with us earlier in the week, Derrick
Henry The Ravens Running Back was on and we had
the following exchange about He told me he's a big
Adam Sandler fan, and I thought, you know what, maybe
I could talk to the Sandman of getting Derrick Henry
in a movie.
Speaker 13 (09:50):
Appreciate it, Dan, thank you for wearing the hoodie. Man,
I'm green, brighten up my day. Appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Well, this is Happy Gilmore too. This is what Adam said.
Speaker 13 (10:00):
Okay, that's one of my you know, I was saying
my favorite actors.
Speaker 12 (10:03):
So that's what's up.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
So that that's the Happy Gilmore golf swing right there,
that patch right there.
Speaker 13 (10:11):
Hey, if you can you do my favor. Yeah, if
you ever see him again, tell him I'm a really
big fan. I would really love to meet him one day.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Okay, you know what I'm gonna do I'm going to
text him today and ask if he'll send a video please,
and then I'm going to send it to the Ravens.
Speaker 12 (10:29):
Okay. Cool, I'm a huge fan.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
And if you get to two thousand yards, I'll get
you in a Sandler movie.
Speaker 12 (10:37):
All right, Cool? Say no more is all right? Remember that?
Speaker 13 (10:40):
Now you remember this, Remember no no no.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I'll take care of my end of it, Okay. I
mean mine's easy, Yeah, yours is hard. You got to
get two thousand yards.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
No more.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
No pressure, that is all, no pressure at all, all right, Okay.
So I reached down to the sand Man say no more, Yeah,
say no more. I'll take care of my end it.
You take care of your end of it. And I
reached out to Sandler. And so if you're watching on Peacock,
you'll be able to see Sandler. And then Derrick Henry
(11:11):
is given the video after practice and he's watching Sandler
with this video to him. Also, if you're listening on radio,
it starts with Derrick Henry when he realizes Sandler has
sent him a video.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
And then you'll hear Sandler and his response. So Marvin, Dad, I'm.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
A dome, yo, Derek.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
I just woke up.
Speaker 13 (11:35):
You know that.
Speaker 14 (11:36):
That's why I look disgusting on top of the fact
that I am disgusting, But I love you. Congratulate everything, baby,
two thousand yards plus this year gets you not only
in the movie, but we have a nice editor together
and talk about.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is for
him to grow it. I love you, keep it up.
This guy says, Hello, apparently he's itchy this morning.
Speaker 14 (12:07):
He's scratching himself on the wall. I'm in a hotel
right now. I'm sure you've been in a field. Okay,
love you buddy. Take care again. Sorry for the disgusting face.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, I appreciate That's cool. I got that dog.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
And then Derrick Henry sent me a direct message to
thank me for hooking him up with Adam Sandler. So
Sandler had his bulldog with him. Here's the direct message
that Dan thank you sending the message in the video.
That was really cool. Much love Dereck Henry. But Sandman
has his bulldog there walking along the hallway in this hotel,
(12:51):
scratching himself.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
The dog's walking along, Yeah, like walking along the wall,
scratching him as they're going.
Speaker 15 (12:59):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Derreck Henry Fritzy is telling me was with us on Tuesday.
So Tuesday Sandman recorded the video, got it to Derek,
and then we wanted to record his reaction to Sandman
offering up a movie role in uh, who knows, might
be Grown Ups three or Happy Gilmore three. Who knows?
That's awesome? Yes, thank you sand Man, JJ and Florida. Hi, JJ,
(13:23):
what's on your mind?
Speaker 16 (13:26):
Good morning? Thanks for stating the call.
Speaker 17 (13:27):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yeah, a couple of things.
Speaker 18 (13:30):
I don't know if you're aware, but the commercial for
Happy Gilmore two aired during the first hockey game the
night before last.
Speaker 16 (13:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
The trailer, Yeah, the trailer for the movie.
Speaker 16 (13:44):
Have you seen the trailer?
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sandman sent that to me
a while ago.
Speaker 16 (13:50):
And you were the trailer.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah, I'm in there.
Speaker 16 (13:53):
Berry. Well, you were the biggest part of it. That's
you were the one that come on. But you're buried
the lead. You said, Sam, are like a mustache on you,
but I think I saw either a large shie on
your face or a full beard. So and as a
lifelong Steeler fan, I'd like to throw in my two cents.
I'm reading with am.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Wow, well you can hold on for another year. You
know with the with Aaron Rodgers. Well, we'll talk to
the Monday Morning quarterback Albert Breer, who had some information
on the signing here with the Steelers. It just it
doesn't solve your quarterbacking issues. It's it's a one year
(14:36):
rental here. That's the only I get it. You're gonna
go with Aaron Rodgers. He's an upgrade over Mason Rudolph. Okay,
were there other options here that were better than this
that maybe helped you longer term? Does Kirk Cousins make
more sense longer term? How long is Mike Tomlin going
to coach Pittsburgh? He could coach elsewhere, he could be
(14:57):
an analyst, you know, I wonder about that. Well, could
this be a one and done for Rogers and Mike Tomlin?
So we'll talk to Albert. He'll join us coming up
eight seven seven three DP Show email addres Sdpat Danpatrick
dot com, Twitter handle ADP Show. Good morning, if you're
watching on Peacock. We'll talk to the Monday Morning quarterback
right after this.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
More on Oklahoma City blowing a double digit lead in
the fourth quarter to the Pacers, and that for you
coming up in case you're wondering, the Pacers are eleven
point underdogs Game two against the thunder. I mentioned the Steelers' odds,
their odds to win the Super Bowl did not change
with the news with Aaron Rodgers. Also, eight and a
(16:51):
half wins didn't really change too much there with the Steelers,
And it feels like with the over under, you always
take the over if it's going to be nine wins.
The question I would want to know over under playoff
wins this year if you put it at a half.
It's bringing Albert Breer, he's the Monday Morning quarterback senior
NFL reporter. How did you celebrate Aaron Rodgers news there, Albert, Yeah,
(17:17):
with a big.
Speaker 12 (17:17):
Sigh of relief. That didn't happen on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Did you think it was going I thought it was
going to happen on Friday. I thought it was going
to happen today.
Speaker 13 (17:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (17:27):
I had a feeling that's gonna happen this week because
I know, Yeah, I don't think next week is a
drop dead deadline for the Steelers because they weren't pushy
with him, but I do think they articulated to him, Hey,
it'd be important, you know, for you to be here
for that mini camp from June tenth to the twelfth.
So you know, if you're gonna if you're going to
(17:49):
take part in that mini camp, probably means you want
to get in at the end of the week. And
you know, as it turns out, he is flying there
on a Friday, so like it actually is happening on Friday.
It's just that the news got out on Thursday in
all likelihood because he had to plan to get there
on Friday.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
It's a short term fix, but it kind of kicks
the can down the road that this is this is
one year and yeah, that's what still surprises me that
they're all in for one year.
Speaker 12 (18:20):
So do you remember you and I sitting at the
Super Bowl and we were talking about Matthew Stafford and
I brought up the Steelers as a potential suitor for him,
and I think, you know, it made some headlines and
people are like, whoa, what do you mean, Like the
Steelers would do that? Yeah, I kind of had an
inkling that they had this this discussion internally they were
never bringing Russell Wilson back, and I think if they
(18:43):
were bringing Justin Fields back, they wanted to continue working
with him, but it wasn't necessarily going to be as
the starter. And I really like kind of like as
I looked at their situation, and one of the reasons
I used them is like the perfect suitor for Stafford
applies to Rogers too. They're so leveraged for right now, you.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Know what I mean.
Speaker 12 (19:02):
And if you look at like their roster, TJ. Watts
turning thirty one, Mika Fitzpatrick's turning twenty nine, Cam Hayward's
in the back end of his career. DK Metcalf, who
it just acquired on his third contract now now he's
not old, but he has been beat up and again
on his third contract. They really are in this spot
(19:22):
where it's like if they want to win with the
core that they've built, then it almost has to be
right now. And yes, they're still chasing the mistake of
taking Kenny Pickett in the first round, but the way
I look at this is taking a quarterback in the
first round wasn't going to solve anything this year with
this group. I think the guys that you were looking
at there were developmental at best. Like you were probably
(19:45):
looking at like, all right, we can get the most
out of this guy in twenty six or twenty seven,
and that doesn't really help you with the core that
you have right now. So if you want to get
somebody for right now, I think the question becomes, do
you want to try to hit a single or a double?
And this is no front to these guys, you know,
like a Daniel Jones trade for a Kirk Cousins whatever
it is, or do you want to take a big
(20:07):
swing for the fences? And I think that's what this is.
It's like if you want to win a super Bowl
with TJ. Watt, if you want to win a super
Bowl with Minka Fitzpatrick, if you want to win a
super Bowl Cam Hayward, who's given your franchise so much
over the years, how are you going to accomplish that?
And like, yeah, there's a chance that you know, Aaron
(20:28):
Rodgers gets hurt or the age shows or whatever it is,
so you might take that big swing and miss, But
he's also got the best chance of putting one over
the fence for you, you know, And so I think
that's sort of the way the Steelers viewed this as
with this corps. You know, with this short window that
they have left with this core of players, they couldn't
swing for a single or a double. They had to
(20:49):
swing for the fences.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Talking to Albert Breer the Monday Morning quarterback, the Lions
off season pretty rough. You lose your coordinators, now you
lose your starting center. What does that do to you
in your eyes as far as being a Super Bowl contender?
If anything?
Speaker 12 (21:06):
Tests you in a lot of ways, And look like
I think part of this is that they got the
bonus year for Ben Johnson. So this would have happened
gradually if Ben Johnson had went like sort of through
the natural order of things. But he really liked it Detroit.
He thought he could be the extra year or two
of development could be useful for him, you know, And
(21:26):
so he stays the extra year. You could argue he'd
sayed an extra two years because he did have opportunities
two years ago. So now you're dealing with that all
at once, where you have attrition both on offense and defense.
You know, at the top of the chart, you know,
and then Frank wrag noow, I'm not going to minimize
that loss at all, like that. He was a rock
for them, a foundation piece for them at a really
(21:48):
important position, and you're taking that out of what has
been maybe the biggest strength strength in the team over
the last couple of years as your offensive line. So
I sort of look at it, like, you know, you
remember that those great giant defensive lines, like they kept
feeding that pipeline, right, like they kept drafting guys and
drafting guys and drafting guys, so a strength would always
(22:10):
stay of strength. So, like, you know, the quick question
here is is that as big as strength for them,
is that as much of their identity now as it
was before? As you're breaking in a new offensive coordinator
with Johnny Morton taking over for for Ben Johnson. Look,
it's a lot, you know, it's definitely a lot, and
it's going to test a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
There.
Speaker 12 (22:29):
Is there going to be a draft drop off from
from Ragnow to Glasgow or or Ratlets or whoever winds
up playing center. I think you certainly have to account
for that. You know, Ragnow is an All Pro player.
Is there going to be a drop off at the
coordinator spots. You have to be prepared for that, even
if you know you you think the world of guys
who are replacing Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. So it's
(22:51):
a lot, no question, and it's and it's in a
division that's going to be pretty unforgiving this year.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Too, the cold situation.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
It looks like Daniel Jones may win that job by
default with Anthony Richardson now the shoulder injury, and I
started to think about they drafted Anthony Richardson the way
NBA teams will draft a player who's a project, Like
you know this guy Ace Bailey who played at Rutgers,
(23:21):
and you're like, man, he's really athletic.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Can he play? I don't know, but he's athletic.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Anthony Richardson struggled to keep his job in college and
then we found that, you know, he was gassed during
a game and took himself out. And I don't know
if we like the philosophy of drafting that where you
just base it off one year.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
And I mean this may go down as a huge,
huge whiff for that organization.
Speaker 12 (23:50):
I mean, he's so raw coming out, you know, I
think everybody saw the talent ability, but you have to,
you know, demonstrate an ability to actually do it on
the field, and there wasn't a lot of that. So
they were really projecting. And you know, Shane Stiking coming
in and how you know, Shane was a part of
developing Jalen Hurts. They had some confidence that, like, hey,
we can take this kind of ball of clay and
(24:11):
shape it into something, even though he only started thirteen
games in college, which is an absurdly low number. I'd
argue this is also the result of like, you know,
sort of predetermining and I think this is where you
have to be really careful, Dan predetermining that this is
the draft where we're going to take a quarterback. Oh yeah, yes,
you know, I just like I and you remember it
(24:33):
as well as I do. Right, Like, so Luck retires
after eighteen. No one saw it coming. Berset in nineteen,
Rivers in twenty, Wentz in twenty one, Ryan in twenty two.
Owner gets fed up, Frank w Reich gets fired in
the middle of the year. Jeff Saturday put in, come
hell or high water, We're we're gonna get our quarterback
in twenty twenty three. Well is the reality of it.
They took the third quarterback and a two quarterback draft,
(24:56):
you know what I mean, Like and like that's how
you again, We've seen it time and again. That's how EJ.
Manuel goes to Buffalo sixteenth. Overall, it's how Kenny Pickett
goes in the first round of Pittsburgh Christian Pond. Christian Ponder, Yeah,
to the Vikings, Like if you predetermine, I think like
teams were prone to that happening this year, you know,
(25:17):
like where it just you have to draft the player.
You can't just draft the position, you know. And I
do think to some degree, the Colts were in this
spot where they were drafting the position in twenty twenty
three because they were under something of a mandate to
do so, because they had had such a revolving door
at that spot. I think it's I think it's a huge, huge,
(25:38):
huge red flag for any team thinking like going into
this year, Yes, we're taking a quarterback next year.
Speaker 13 (25:45):
You know.
Speaker 12 (25:46):
And here's the other thing, Like what you were it
cost you, Well, it really cost you three off seasons
of finding a quarterback because you didn't get it right
in twenty three and in the last two years you've
just backstopped Richardson last year, you know, with Joe laco
in this year with uh with with Daniel Jones. So
you've ostensibly lost I mean, unless Daniel Jones winds up
(26:08):
being the quarterback of the future. I'm not rolling anything out,
but you know, you've you've you've lost three or three
more off seasons now as a result of that pick.
It can be really damaging to a franchise for sure.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Where do we stand with the step On Diggs boat
party story?
Speaker 12 (26:24):
Yeah, I would say so. So first of all, I
think the first thing you want to you want to
lay out here is how important culture has been for
for for Mike Rabel and trying to establish what he
wants to build there. I think they followed the commander's
blueprint to some degree. If you look at all the
guys that Dan Quinn and Adam Peters signed in the
(26:44):
twenty twenty four off season, almost every one of them
had a connection to someone on the coaching staff and
it was it was because they wanted to know that
they were getting the right types of guys to plug
into their program in year one. And you know, Mike
did a lot of that in the off season. Milton
William was an exception, but he was a plus character
in Philly. Almost everybody else that they signed had some
(27:06):
sort of background, and this one, Diggs was sort of
the dice roll. So I think this happening this early,
and it's not so much being on a boat of
Memorial Day weekend or even the back of drugs. It's like,
how do you allow yourself to be filmed like that?
Now you've created a week long story for everybody else
in the team. So I think the big thing was
did he make it out of that week? Did he
(27:27):
sit down and have an honest conversation with Mike Rabel?
Was he straightforward with him? And can they move forward?
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Now?
Speaker 12 (27:33):
This doesn't disappear because if something else were to happen,
of course, like you know, he already has a strike
against him right like that. It's not like it's just
vanishes off the ledger, because if something else were to
happen then, like you know, I think that then then
you know, you would certainly look back and say, okay,
this is twice now, dude. But you know, I do
(27:53):
think it's that the junctures happening can be fortuitous for
the Patriots and they could say okay, like now you know,
like this is what people were worried about with you.
We really need you to be a leader for the team.
And the good news is, like I think Steph is
deep down a good guy. His work ethic has always
been beyond approach. He's been a captain for multiple teams.
Like I just I think that there's a there's a
(28:15):
good path out of this. But it certainly doesn't disappear
from the ledger allegedly drugs. I'd not say allegedly. I'm sorry.
I have no idea what was in the bag. I
wasn't on the boat. Wasn't invited?
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, would you have gone on the boat if invited?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Sure? Sure?
Speaker 7 (28:31):
Sure?
Speaker 12 (28:31):
Did they lose your invite in the mail too?
Speaker 3 (28:33):
I don't think I want to be on that boat.
You know, you know I would go on for journalistic purpose,
of course you would.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
I would go on for Cardi b Okay, this team
will have the number one pick on the draft this
upcoming season.
Speaker 12 (28:46):
That's a tough one because this one's going to get aggregated.
Then New Orleans would be interesting, wouldn't it. If they
had the first pick and they had chance to take
a quarterback and with arch manning declare, I don't even
want to get into that because we don't we still
don't know on arch like how good he's going to
(29:08):
be when he's a starter for a full year. But
you know that's going to be the storyline, right, I mean,
his family history says there's no way he's coming out
after one year starting right.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Like his But if the Saints have the number one
pick on the draft, then.
Speaker 12 (29:20):
I mean, like, wouldn't that be tempting?
Speaker 13 (29:22):
Right?
Speaker 15 (29:24):
Yes?
Speaker 14 (29:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (29:26):
And then a quarterback situation. I mean, I the Saints
are an interesting one because I don't think they're a
bad I don't think it's a bad team, like I
don't think it's a bad roster. Like I think their
offensive line actually has a chance to be really good
with Kelvin Banks coming in there. You know, the defensive
line still has I think, promise maybe you get a
little bit more out of Chase Young this year. Cam
Jordan's back for his twenty fifth year, you know. So, like,
(29:50):
I think that there are elements of a good team there,
and I think for a young quarterback coming in eventually
this could be a really good spot. I just I
don't know how quarterbacks going to undermine them this year,
you know, like the back end of the defense. I'm
not sure where that's how that's going to look like.
I think the lines give him an opportunity to stay
in games, but the rest of it is kind of like, oh,
(30:12):
like you know, like let's see what this looks like.
And and yeah, I mean I wouldn't that definitely be
the storyline though, right, like yes, yeah, if if we
get to December and they're near the top of the
draft order and Texas is like in the national title picture, yeah,
it could be pretty interesting.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Albert, have a great weekend. The Monday morning quarterback.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Thank you all right?
Speaker 12 (30:34):
Thanks Dan?
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah, you imagine feels like Arch is going to stay
for two years, and I'm sure that that would be
something that the Manning family would advise him. Get some starts,
get some big starts under your belt, get twenty five
close to thirty starts under your belt, then you'll be ready.
But can you pass up the opportunity to be the
(30:56):
quarterback for the New Orleans Saints? Sean in Oregon, Hey Sean,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 12 (31:02):
Hey?
Speaker 19 (31:02):
Thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 18 (31:04):
Dan.
Speaker 19 (31:05):
I hear you guys talking about the odds on the Steelers.
And I'm thinking more like, what are the odds that
Arthur Smith finished the season with the Steelers. I've been
watching Aaron Rodgers and what he's been doing, and I
watched what happened to the Jets coaching staff in that
whole team. I mean, I think the Steelers are a
little more strong, wieled and a little bit better decision
(31:27):
making than the Jets. But I think I think this
would get pretty nasty. And I think a lot of
the Steelers' locker room have probably got their opinions already made.
And if he doesn't, if they like Arthur Smith more
than they like Aaron Rodgers, a couple of the linemen
might play Mattador type line for a couple of games
to let something happen to him.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
I don't think that's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
They want to win. They got a chance to win
with that. You may not like all your teammates, but
if that guy can help you win, that's what it's.
That's the bottom line. Dan in Ohio, Hi Dan, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 12 (32:05):
Hey?
Speaker 20 (32:05):
DPD Dan AT's first time, long time five ten and
a wiry one thirty. The reason I'm calling is this Sunday,
I am headed out to Germany to see my daughter,
who is a captain in the army, and she surprised
me with a Father's Day weekend trip to Normandy.
Speaker 16 (32:26):
Oh.
Speaker 20 (32:27):
I know that was one of your most memorable trips.
So I was hoping to maybe get a little uh
advice on a couple of places to stop. I know
there's all kinds of stuff there, but I just wanted
to get your opinion on the matter.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
All Right, you've got a great daughter.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
If she surprised you with that for Father's Day, go
to the American Cemetery, the US Cemetery with all the
soldiers who died there, and go to the German Cemetery,
because you will see, I mean, it's unbelievable the difference
between those two even you know the gravestones the Americans
(33:09):
they're white stone and Germany they're black. You know, the
feeling of pride at the US Cemetery as opposed to
going to the German Cemetery and get there for taps. Okay,
if you get an opportunity to get there in the
evening when they bring the American flag down at the cemetery,
(33:32):
it is it's so moving it'll hit you hard if
you can get a walking tour, if you get a
guide who can help you with some of the smaller
things that I wasn't aware of.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
But it was so rewarding, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
And then when you go to Omaha be I mean,
when you see what those kids when they got off
those boats and you can see where the Germans had
positioned their machine guns. There's still little caves cut out.
They had no chance none, and they got out of
those boats. And the way the Germans position their machine guns,
(34:16):
they were shooting at angles, you know, against the soldiers,
not straight ahead, they were going sideways, and it is
a very very very powerful.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Scene moment feel I just sat on the beach.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I cried.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
Yes, that picture of the uh yeah, I think it's
called like into the Jaws of Death maybe, but it's
that very famous picture of sort of the landing barge
and the front has gone down for everybody to run
off of and you can see, you know, the walls
of the barge sort of framed the picture, and all
you can see is straight through what all of these
(34:57):
people ran through and where they were running to. One
of the most powerful photographs ever taken.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I just can't imagine you're eighteen, nineteen years of age,
and all of a sudden you're pulling up and you're
seeing I mean, it's just a massacre.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
It truly is, and you're getting off that boat and damn.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I mean, if you have kids, you imagine an eighteen
year old son getting off that boat, nineteen years of age.
Everybody getting shot right in front of you. But there's
so much, so many historical artifacts there, and you know
planes that they jumped out of and jeeps.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
That they rode in, and it just it, it'll it'll
hit you, It'll hit you hard. All right. Let me
take a break. We'll get some more phone calls coming up.
We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
A couple more phone calls in here, Phil and Iowa
Hi Phil.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
UH five.
Speaker 15 (36:05):
In honor of Tyree Taliburton's game winner last night, UH
threw together and all the time Cyclones was wondered if
you guys would swap anybody out. I got Jamal Tinsley
at point, I got Deep CORNI sec at shooting guard, Corny,
I got Halliburtons at the three, I got Knee at
the four. I got Pfizer at center, Marcus Pfizer that is.
(36:30):
And I got Fred Hoiberg coming off the bench. Since
you took that in ambrassa job. But who's beating this
cyclone team?
Speaker 17 (36:36):
Dan?
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Nobody. I thought Pier was going to be a thing.
So did the Bulls right? Did they take him? Took
him early?
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (36:46):
I know.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:47):
Who's being that team?
Speaker 3 (36:48):
A bunch of everybody?
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yeah? Uh. Time to slide into the weekend, brought to
you by King Shawaian and you got your summer going
grilling season ready to go.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
And the Irris just kings Hawaiian rolls and slider buns.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
All right. So we have Sunday Pacers Thunder, the Thunder
of Favor by eleven Red Sox at the Yankees coming
up on Saturday. And Sunday you have the UEFA National League,
the Nations League. My bad, it's the Nations League. Germany
and France, Portugal and Spain. Does in Spain have the
(37:23):
best player in the world seventeen years of age?
Speaker 16 (37:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Yeah, kid is no joke. He went off yesterday too.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yes, it was a scoring binge.
Speaker 13 (37:32):
It was.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Yes, it was the Belmont Steaks on the Gambling Podcast,
Shayan Irving and Bad Larry and Dylan the graphics guy.
I think they were all kind of in agreement of
who's going to win. Sovereignty is the big favor at
two to one, but they do you remember what they had, Marvin,
I forget who they picked to It was like the
(37:55):
horse six, horse seven something like that.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Yes, Pauline, Yes, journalism or the heavyweights. I'm kind of
rooting for journalism here.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
As a concept. Yeah, not the horse. Yeah, yeah, the
future of it. Yeah, Pablo Tore, that's who. That's who
I'm rooting for. I'm rooting for Pablo Tore, otherwise known
as journalism guest Todd.
Speaker 7 (38:20):
That could be a little crude, so I'm gonna go crude.
Oh let's see Crudeo finishing the first and that rasking.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Thank you to h Yes.
Speaker 9 (38:26):
Another thing I'm looking forward to sliding into the weekend
Texas Tech Texas Softball Game three is that this is
for the championship. Yeah, I think that's tonight.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
And then you know that uh girl from Texas Tech
is going to pitch again, right, get tired. She she's
pitched like four hundred innings, almost five hundred innings. I
think this year, I think she pitches. Did she pitch
every single game for them? Checking Texas Tech, Well, they're
paying her a million dollars, so I guess you got
(38:59):
to get your money's worth. And then you got Panthers
and the Oilers coming up tonight Game two, Zach and Iowa.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Hi, Zach, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
By the way, that's sliding into the weekend, brought to
you by the great folks said kings Hawaiian Kings Hawaiian rolls.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
And slider buns and enjoy what do you have? Zach
wanting Dan.
Speaker 11 (39:18):
I'm a Thunder fan, have been since they drafted Katie
back to Seattle. I'm also an Iowa State fan. I'm
born and raised, even ticket holder, and Tyreees is not
only just a great player for the Cyclones, but he's
also a great ambassador for the team and just overall
great guy. So last night might be the most bittersweet
moment that I can remember of my fandom, and it
(39:39):
reminds me, I know, you talked about Game one of
the two thousand and one Finals. Yeah, also kind of
reminds me of the twenty twelve Finals when the Thunder
one Game one, But as a Yankees fan, it also
reminds me of Game one of the World Series last
year when Freddy Freeman had a walkoff greend Flint. But
the worst part is I called in with my new
(39:59):
boy Or and Sun a couple of weeks ago. So
after last night's game, not only do I have to
put up with what happened, I then had to go
change to poopy diaper model see and put the kid
to sleep.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Thank you, Sech, thank you for sharing. Uh it's Najorie Kennedy. Yes,
is that right, Marvin? It is okay. She has five
complete games in the College World Series. She has thrown
all four hundred and ninety five pitches for Texas Tech
in the College World Series.
Speaker 12 (40:32):
Woo Stell of the Day, Stanle of to Day, stand
Out to Day, Scanna a Day.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
This is the stule of the Day, Out of the Day,
brought to you by Panini America. Yes, Paul.
Speaker 9 (40:47):
This season Canaday for Texas Tech. She pitched two hundred
and thirty nine innings. The other two pitchers pitched ninety
six and sixty nine innings.
Speaker 8 (40:57):
Yes, Todd, and her rotator cup is gonna be like
display the lobby behind glass and you can go check
it out.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Wow. By the way, shout out to Jenny but Check.
She's an assistant coach with the Pacers. She went to Virginia,
which is where Rick Carlisle went to She is diagramming
plays there in the final minutes of last night's game.
Jenny but Check played at Virginia. Congratulations got some airtime
(41:26):
last night. Channing Fry, the former NBA player. He'll join
us coming up top of the hour right after this
