Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
If you're watching on peacock, thank you for downloading the
app eight seven seven to three DP. Show operator Tyler
sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Three days of
football and we got a whole lot more coming up
recapping what happened with college football. Rick Neuheisel from CBS
Sports will join us. Coming up also has a football

(00:49):
song for the holidays for us I believe as well.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
All right, poll question Seaton, what are we going to
go with?

Speaker 4 (00:55):
At hour two? Let's clean up our ones results? We
got up there too, right now, who do you believe in?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Least?

Speaker 4 (01:02):
It's between Alabama and Miami. Miami has sixty percent of
that vote. And then we also have which NFC playoff
team do you believe in? Least your options there Seahawks Bears,
forty nine Ers, Eagles.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Seahawks Bears, forty nine Ers, Eagles.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
The Bears currently have forty two percent of that vote.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, I could see that.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
You know what's weird though, The Seahawks currently have thirteen
percent of that vote, which would mean that people believe
in them most.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, but this is Sam Donald's spillover from last year.
That's all this is.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
You know, that's not a thing, Sam Donald's spillover. Totally.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yes, it is, yes, yes, because everybody's gonna say the
same thing. Let me see what happens in the postseason.
Sam Donald still unproven. Let me see what you do
in a big game in the playoffs. But people here.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Believe in him most. Oh, I thought you said that
he only got thirteen percent.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Which NFC playoff team do you believe in least ease?
And they have the smallest number of votes, which means
people would believe in them most.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Okay, Well, there's people are wrong, correct, I'm saying. It's
a very surprising result to me.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Maybe they're as confused as I am with the results,
and maybe that's why they voted that way.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
But possibly.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, No, the poorly worded award goes to the official.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
In the Lions game, it's a touchdown, but it's not.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
There was passing play that again Marvin fourth and oh,
we can't play Can we play right? Where the official is?
We have to play the whole thing?

Speaker 3 (02:40):
All right? Here's the whole thing. All right.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
Let's go fourth and goal for the Lions from the
nine ball game on the line right here.

Speaker 7 (02:48):
They need the end zone for the win.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Jared leans in.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
There's the snap on fourth down, Jared bat Jared stepping up.

Speaker 8 (02:54):
Jared, look, he throwing end zone.

Speaker 7 (02:56):
It is bought by Amen.

Speaker 6 (02:58):
Ra shy End. So he flips it back to Golf
who talked into the end zdE for the touchdown. There's
a flag that came in to far. Did they rule
him down? Are they gonna say.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
Pass interference against dom and raw?

Speaker 3 (03:13):
There's no time left on the clock.

Speaker 8 (03:16):
Here comes Carl Scheffers.

Speaker 7 (03:17):
The officials have finally broken.

Speaker 9 (03:18):
We're gonna get call right here.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Is this game over or not? Pittsburgh's staying on the field.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
They're really on the field.

Speaker 10 (03:23):
There's a touchdown, however, unbelt yeah, on the offense. My
rule that penalty is not enforced and there is no replay.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
The game is over. Wow, there is no touchdown. It's terrible, terrible.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
However, that's that's one of the most impactful howevers in
sports history. However, you usually start with penics interference and
no touchdown, game over. Not it's a touchdown, and then
you know, you got the crowd going crazy. Touchdown and

(04:07):
I got to give you know, Jared Goff credit. He
was aware of maybe a lateral, got the lateral and
it was a touchdown. That would have been a touchdown
without the passenter. However, there was a pass interference has time.

Speaker 11 (04:21):
It's like unintentionally mean spirited, like he's got something, he
gets the lines. Look on, what a trick all these guys.
There's a touchdown and then you whisper. However, while the
crowd's going crazy.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Zach and Knoxville, Hi, Zach.

Speaker 12 (04:34):
Adp perfect segue. I don't believe that should have been
called the touchdown. I think Ford progress was stopped. And
also just based off of that game and all the
other controversies we've had this year, I think that the
refs should go full time, if nothing else for the optics.

Speaker 7 (04:54):
But my job is not as high stakes as.

Speaker 12 (04:59):
Calling it in sell game. Yet we have weekly meetings
and we meet up. I just think that these guys
should be in Dallas and Kansas City and should be
in a central location and should be able to meet
up every Monday and go over this stuff together so
we have a clear interpretation of the rules.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Do you think it's time for rets to be full time?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, I don't know why we're not making them full time.
That still doesn't I mean, that's embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
That's all that is.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You can be full time, you're still going to say
something in the inverse order, like what are you doing?

Speaker 3 (05:35):
It's a touchdown? No, it's not.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
It's not a touchdown because there was past interference. If
there wasn't past interference, and then we would argue was
forward progress stopped with I'm on Ross Saint Brown, then
we could have a discussion. But you don't lead with, hey,
it's a touchdown, and the crowd it's crazy. They don't

(06:01):
hear what you say after that it's a touchdown. However,
oh my god, yes see, how.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Does refs being full time employees change that scenario?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
He would it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
But I think Zach was saying, if they're full time,
like we tend to look at them, Okay, you're just
part time, like you're a mall cop, not a policeman.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Like, yeah, but you're not official, like you're not full time.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
And I don't know why the NFL just doesn't for
what Zach was saying, the optics of they are full time.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
So there's no real substance to it at all. It's
just optics.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
It'd be like, hey, but at least they got it wrong,
but at least they're doing it full time wrong that
I really, I really don't understand the There has to
be other reasoning other than optics that people are pushing
for full time refs.

Speaker 8 (06:48):
Yes, Poe, I think making the refs full time would
have the opposite effect. Everyone would say, good job NFL.
Then we'd have the same exact types of calls next year.
And he's got these guys are getting paid five hundred
thousand dollars a year.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
To do this.

Speaker 8 (07:01):
It would make it worse.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yes, John, you either know the rules.

Speaker 11 (07:04):
I would see you either know the rules that you don't.
If you are a substitute teacher a couple days week,
you're doing some of the taxes. How is that going
to change the calls you make on how you make them.
That's just seems a little ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, it's like the substitute teacher. It's like, well he
not even full time. Yeah, here's Aaron Rodgers on that
crazy play.

Speaker 13 (07:21):
I was trying to read Carl's lips and see what
he was saying, and I saw him mouth oh pi
end of the game. So I felt pretty confident that
was what's gonna happen.

Speaker 14 (07:30):
But you never know.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
It's more time. And like I said, I was there
for the fail marry game.

Speaker 13 (07:34):
I was standing from me to you from the replacement
refs as they cave to the pressure of an angry
Seattle field when that was obviously not simultaneous possession. So
I was glad that the ended up like that wild game.
Glad we're on top.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Aaron, A little callback there, they failed marry. Stat of
the Day brought to you by Panini America Official Trading
Cards of the program. NBA on NBC and Peacock. Every
Tuesday in prime time, they got a doubleheader. It'll be Nuggets, MAVs,
Rockets Clippers NBA on NBC, streaming on Peacock. Yeah, we'll

(08:14):
talk to Reggie Miller coming up tomorrow. Rick Neuheiser will
stop by here in about ten minutes. A couple of
phone calls Chris and Syracuse. Hi, Chris, best and worst
of the weekend.

Speaker 15 (08:24):
Hey, thanks to Hey. You know I got a worse
for it. And I also wanted to count a couple
of things off the Ross Tucker and if you guys
were talking about DK Metcalf going in the stands, and
I remember back in the seventies when the Boston Bruins
were playing the New York Rangers and hockey and they
were in Madison Square Garden, and I think it was
Millberry and O'Reilly and Winsick all scaled the wall, went
into the stands and started beating up fans, and I

(08:46):
remember Mike Milberry took a guy's shoe off and started
pounding them with the shoe. And the other thing you
guys were talking about with Ross Tucker about the about
the referees. Fans in Detroit must have given those refs
an earful when they were leaving the field. And it
probably one of my favorite story. Andy Van Hellman was

(09:08):
a referee in hockey and they asked him the best
line he ever heard from fan. And this was back
in the seventies when fans could almost reach us out
and touch you when you were walking back to the
ice through the tunnel. And he said, yeah, I was
in Boston when between the second and third intermission, between
the second and third period, he said, I was walking
walking out in a fan now yelled at me, Hey,
Van Hellman, you must be pregnant. You missed the first

(09:31):
two periods and my worst to the Michigan Wolverine football program.
Kenny Dillingham signed in a five year extension with Arizona State.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well that's good for him, you know, don't have to.
You know, Michigan's not a charity case. It feels like
Michigan whatever they're whoever they're waiting for, is still coaching.
It feels like is that transferred portal coming up? And
it feels like, you know, this like Penn State where

(10:01):
you're going, Wait a minute, this is a really good
job here, and it might be, but I don't want
to go. I would stay with an interim head coach
and wait until you get a lot of guys next
year when all this mess with the athletic director.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Let that all, you know, go away.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
More candidates it's a great job, one of the top
probably five jobs in America. Do that and then you're
going to get a lot of people interested. Yes, Marvin,
but also Kenny Dillingham, he just needs twenty million dollars.

Speaker 16 (10:33):
Did you see that?

Speaker 9 (10:34):
So he basically asked somebody to write a big check
because this is what Arizona State needs in order to
be competitive.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Oh yeah, they yeah, this is the collect the collective.
You know, you get nil, and but the collective is
the key.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I was told that that you get, you know, twenty
one million dollars for your sports rosters, the collectives. You
got to have another twenty million dollars if you want
to compete. I was told you got to be you know,
around forty million dollars. And that's what these these schools know.
He knows that, Hey, I'll stay. You got to make
sure that I have enough money that I can compete

(11:11):
with these other schools. Gus in La, Hi, Gus, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 17 (11:17):
Good morning, missus Patrick. Hope you and the boys had
a great weekend. Oh my god, man, what a weekend
for football.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Man.

Speaker 17 (11:23):
I felt like I needed a cigarette yesterday after all
the damn football that I've been watching, it was one
of the best. I mean starting in Thursday. I know that,
you know, Friday, Saturday the best of the weekend, But
Thursday night that's when the fund started with the ramsom
the Seahawks, and then continued all the way. Like I
know everybody's confused and whatever, man, but hey, if someone's
going to lose that way, I prefer and not could
be my Steelers worst of the weekend, the DK Metcat situation,

(11:48):
you know, like I don't know when these you know, dude,
you're a professional athlete. You are like a physically chosen
specimen that could literally break someone's jaw a'llah, Jake Paul
with one swing. I mean, it's just, you know, you're
a professional athlete, for dear gut. Stop going into the
stands and then kind of like a bonus betch of

(12:09):
the weekend. How about Ben Johnson and Liam Cohen. I mean,
when those two guys took those jobs, everybody was kind
of like, you know, we'll see, we'll see a couple
of years down the road, it'll take some time, you know,
to get them around. One year later, they both got
double digit wins first in their divisions. You got to
give it up, and the true question should be which

(12:30):
one of those boys is gonna win Coach of the Year. First,
you boys, have a great week, have a happy holiday.
Thank you for everything. Thank you, buddy. That's gust In la.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
I think people looked at Ben Johnson and thought, that's
what Chicago's missing, That's what Caleb is missing. Liam Cohen
leaving Tampa Bay and going to Jacksonville that's a bigger surprise.
But I will argue Kyle Shanahan may have done his
best coaching, he won't win Coach of the Year. Mike

(12:59):
rave up for that as well. The other situation here
with Mike Tomlin. That was his two hundredth win as
a head coach, including the planoff. So he's fifty three.
He's the third youngest coach in NFL history to reach
two hundred career wins. Curly Lambeau and Don Shula are
the other two head coaches.

Speaker 18 (13:20):
Startup to Day Startup Today, STATU the day Start of
the Day, Statuta Day.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Stout of the Day, brought to you by Panadi America,
the official trading cards of the program. By the way,
I've seen fear in a boxing ring twice once was
Mike Tyson against Marvus Fraser, Joe Fraser's son, and I
was ringside for that in Atlantic City. I saw true

(13:47):
fear on Joe Fraser's son first first round when Mike
came across and he just if if he could have said, hey,
you win, and I'm can I leave now? And with
Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua when he you can see
where Jake Paul realizes, man, that I make a really,

(14:10):
really bad mistake here. This is a technical error on
my part and he was trying to make business decisions
of staying out of the way grabbing his leg. I mean,
it's look, I would never pay for any of that nonsense,
and anybody who does can't complain. But just seeing the highlights,
I laughed, like Anthony Joshua, that guy, that's all business.

(14:35):
And when he is ready to hit him in the jaw,
and you could see Jake Paul's eyes like.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Goly, this is gonna hurt.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
He had no business being in there, and I know
he made a lot of money, but if you want
to pony up for that, go get him.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Can't do it.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Don't care. Now, Hey, I'm going to fight who what's
the next opponent. Yeah, he called him out too, But
I mean that jaw was broken I think in two places.
And and look, he's not looking for sympathy. He's a
good business person. It's like if you buy it, then okay,

(15:19):
it's on you. You know, you buy into the Kardashian nonsense.
It's not on them, it's on you. He's just selling
and he's done a great job selling. But that's where
you man, oh man, Like in that jaw, it was
like he had a football in it, and that's when

(15:40):
you went that that's what grown ass men do, and
they fight like those are professional fighters. Those guys are
meant to hurt you, not like Mike Tyson. And then
I saw where Tyson talking about a rematch. I go, no, no,
we can't do this anymore. God no, nobody wants to

(16:01):
see it. And unless you're actually gonna punch him, because
I don't think Mike. I think the language was, hey,
don't hurt me. And maybe you know, Mike slips some
punches there, but you know, Joshua, Joshua did everybody a
service there because now you know it's it's it's when
somebody loses, you lose.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
That mystique.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Now, maybe you're not gonna pony up and go you
know what, he's got a puncher's chance, not against someone
like that.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yes, Paulie, I.

Speaker 8 (16:32):
Watched that fight. I was up late, did yeah. Well,
see it was on Netflix. It was free.

Speaker 12 (16:36):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (16:37):
I was up late after the football game and I
was watching and it was on cruise control. For about
the first four rounds. It was like, neither of us.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
I gotta throw big and oh he carried him through
those first couple around yeah.

Speaker 8 (16:49):
And Jake Paul was grabbing and like a like a
drowning man. But it got real there at the last
that last round.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, because I know that the
back room guys were gonna bet on it and they
were trying to think, how can I make money on this?
And it was like Jake Paul either goes the distance
or he gets knocked out, because he ain't knocking out Joshua.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Yeah, Morvion, Yeah, I saw that.

Speaker 9 (17:12):
I was also up late watching that fight. I watched
it with my wife, and my wife's a big Anthony
Joshua fan. Now also for different reasons. But but it
was like Floyd Mayweather, Connor McGregor like the first couple
of rounds, we're playing around. But then it was like,
all right, now I'm a real boxer and I'm about
to show you what a real boxer do.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
But if Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor actually.

Speaker 9 (17:33):
Did UFC that's ten seconds.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Then it would be awesome. That's what I would love
to see, or let him do both. But still then
that's interesting. Connor McGregor wasn't gonna be I mean, Floyd
Mayweather's tactically one of the greatest boxers in history.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
You're not gonna get hit. Yeah, Paulie, it was.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
It was interesting because I was like, Joshua's gonna turn
it on here because he's so big and so strong,
and when he did it, I'm not saying it was
a plan, but it felt like Joshua was letting things
go for a while and then say I'm gonna flick
the switch.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Felt like it was scripted just a little bit. But
once again, I just saw the highlights. I couldn't even
if it's free, even if it was in my backyard.
If it's in your backyard, I don't know if I
would have just walk on back if it was in
my basement, at the Christmas party, I probably would have
walked by a couple of ds I wouldn't want to watch.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Yes, is there any writing in the script or the contract?

Speaker 11 (18:28):
If someone breaks somebody's jaws seriously injures them, I'm gonna
get that many more millions. They got to look into that.
And I don't think you would script and here's where
you break the guy's jaw.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yeah, I mean maybe there's an understanding, you know.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
I don't want to accuse them of scripting something as
much as maybe there is an agreement on certain things
that Cannon can't happen. Rick new Heisl is gonna have
his college football song for us. More of your phone calls,
We'll give you our best and worst of the weekend.
Nate Burlson from CBS, we'll stop by as well. We're
back after this.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Paully Fools Go here with Tony Foosco.

Speaker 7 (19:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (19:11):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Toni Foosco Show. Yeah, but instead of us
telling you how great we are. Here's how Dan Packrick
described us when he came on our show.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
What are you doing? Were interrupting our promo? Yeah, you
wasn't talking about you. You took those clips totally of context.

Speaker 19 (19:31):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Let me put this into context.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Shut up.

Speaker 19 (19:38):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Fusco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Yee, we will give you our best and worst of
the weekend. Coming up.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
More phone calls as well each seven to seven three
DP show. This weekend's college football playoffs was really about
James Madison in two lane. Now, we were curious if
Miami could win on the road Alabama Oklahoma and rematch.
I mean, there were certain things that we were looking
how would Old miss do without Lane Kiffin? But it
was about can James Madison in Tulane keep it competitive

(20:13):
in their games? You know that supporters of this, you
know this was validation for these schools, proof that the
expanded Playoff could finally deliver access.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
But for a lot of the skeptics.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
It was a ticking time bomb, one that you know,
we're waiting for a bad showing and then the criticism
would right itself.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
It didn't last.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Long Old Miss dismantled Tou Lane by thirty one Oregon
seventeen point win over JMU looks.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Respectable, but it was not that close.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
You know, the gap in depth and speed, physicality and
money was evident and it's not meant and shouldn't be
an indictment on James Madison in Tulane. They didn't force
their way in. They earned their spots. These are the rules,
this is the format.

Speaker 17 (21:00):
You do.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
This you get in the response responsibilities on the committee.
This isn't on JMU or two Lane. You know, we
want the best twelve teams, right or do we want
an inclusive path here? Like we got to make up
our mind what do we want? Because JM, you and
two Lane are not amongst the twelve best teams. They're not,

(21:22):
but they did what they were supposed to do, so
don't blame them, blame the committee. Yeah, Eton, you know
I felt.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
Bad watching those games, uh, because you know that there's
that pregame moment and all week leading up to it
really where we're going to shock the world.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
We're gonna shock.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
We do our jobs, then nobody can play with us
on game there, we do our jobs, were as good
as any team in the kind of and then you
get out there it's like, oh no we're not Yeah
no we aren't. Well this is a totally different level
than what we just did this We're not on the
same deer at all. And then you get the well
Boise stayed against Oklahoma. That was a long time ago,
and that's the only game people can reference how much the.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Game is left. That's where you want a running clock there.
Let's bring in Rick Neuheisel, CBS Sports College football analyst
feels like those who didn't want tu Lane or James
Madison in the playoffs certainly got what they wanted.

Speaker 20 (22:17):
Oh I agree, I agree, And I think someday we're
going to get to a point where James Madison Tulane
are going to get to play each other, and we
just need to get that game the kind of stage
that it deserves, you know, a New Year's Day stage
where they can play for a group of five or
a group of six, whatever it ends up becoming national champion.

(22:39):
The fact that we're taking players from them, you know, annually,
just basically taking their all star team and putting it
on the power four rosters with lavish gifts. It makes
it difficult for them to compete when they get to
this portion of the year.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Best team remaining is who.

Speaker 20 (23:01):
I still think it's Ohio State. I know Ohio State
got comfortable not trying to be too explosive offensively and
lean into their defense, and Indiana kind of exposed them there.
But I believe, you know, with Ryan day now back
probably calling play's heartline spending, just like I said to
Colin kleinb dilemma having to get ready for what's going

(23:23):
on at South Florida. I think that Ohio State has
the makings of the offense that can win a national championship,
and they've certainly proven themselves defensively.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
The best matchup coming up is too.

Speaker 20 (23:40):
Goodness gracious, I love the Rose Bowl Indiana. I mean,
if you're an Indiana fan, are you just absolutely have
red marks Oliver for the times you've been pinching yourself.
I've been trophy winner, I've been trophy winner, and now
the Big Ten Championship. You've been to the college football playoff.

(24:02):
Now two years in a row. It's too good to
be true. And now you're going to the Rose Bowl
to take on Alabama. I mean, this is like some
psychedelic dream that most of these folks had back in
their college days. This is too good to be true.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
First half social media, Notre Dame fans talking about Alabama,
no show down, seventeen to nothing, and then they went quiet.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
The second half there, it went.

Speaker 20 (24:32):
Pretty quiet, pretty fast. Although Brent Benables has got to
be sitting there looking at himself in the mirror, go
what was I doing third and five? Sending out my
kicker to kick into the wind from fifty one yards
away after he missed a chip shot. Yeah, it was
not exemplary head coaching one oh one by coach Venables,

(24:52):
but still a good year and a whale of a comeback.
And that's kind of stuff that's first team's on. I
don't know they're good enough without a run game, but
it was certainly a role tide type of evening.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
All right, you promised a song the last time you
were on, so.

Speaker 21 (25:08):
I have it.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
I'll have it, Okay.

Speaker 20 (25:10):
The topic is, oh, we're in the Christmas time of year,
so it will be self explanatory. Hang on for a
second as I adjust myself in my beautiful studio here,
and just remember, my boy sounds a little bit bassis.
It's just because it's early am where I am.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
And by adjusting yourself you mean you're adjusting the guitar
that you're playing.

Speaker 21 (25:35):
The guitar is sitting right here. I had to put
you on a speaker.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Okay, can do all things.

Speaker 16 (25:42):
All right.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Let me give the full introduction. He's a CBS Sports
college football analyst. He gave us born in the sec
years ago, the ballad of Johnny Manziel years ago, and
here he is in the Christmas Spirit Rick Neuheisel.

Speaker 22 (25:58):
The song is entitled just let him Play.

Speaker 21 (26:03):
College Football.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
Discombob you, lady, but don't let that gets you to frustrateed.

Speaker 14 (26:15):
Just sit yourself down and say, let him play, Let
him play.

Speaker 21 (26:22):
Let him play. Coaching carousel the spinning and they are
the only one screening.

Speaker 22 (26:33):
But don't you show dismay, Let him play, Let him play,
Let him play.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
When we finally get to the games, will show the
youngers go on to be.

Speaker 21 (26:49):
Better with da shame notre dame. Soon the season win
the goal, so don't stress about.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
The coming and going steven.

Speaker 22 (27:02):
Though there's no signs of slowing. If he he get drunk,
we pray, let him play, let him play, let him play.

Speaker 5 (27:14):
The holidays now upon us, and it doesn't take no
mister Dommas to predict what's con is way, wash him play,
wash him play, watch him play like drink and said
the game is that, he said, some kind of reedy

(27:36):
pickk clue old miss.

Speaker 14 (27:39):
Winters and lay it's rich, but the check comes from
tell lets you.

Speaker 21 (27:47):
I know it sounds so confounding. The sound you hear
as heads pounding.

Speaker 22 (27:57):
But trust me, he went out, play play play.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, you did it again. This is this is where
you smash your guitar. Don't you didn't that how you
end up where you're good? Uh, Merry Christmas to you,
Happy New Year, Thank you again, my friend, Thank you.

Speaker 20 (28:40):
Buddy, always a treat, Happy holidays.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Recknue heiseel uh. He always delivers. I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
All right, we'll get to our phone or our best
and worst of the weekend. Your phone calls Paulie has
a quick NFL quiz.

Speaker 22 (28:55):
Now.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
He hit me with the question this morning, early this morning,
and he was talking about great running backs, great quarterbacks,
somebody leading the league in rushing. James Cook is quietly
leading the league in rushing, and he's he's a very
That's one of those where you're watching Josh Allen and
then you go that guy's pretty good. That running back

(29:17):
is pretty good. And he didn't he have the holdout
when he was trying to get paid. And I thought,
he runs, he runs like he's still trying to get paid.
And but he got fourteen hundred yards. PAULI, Yeah, yeah,
he's over fourteen hundred, so he could end up, you know,
sixteen hundred yards maybe by the end of the year.

(29:38):
And you're so, your quiz is best quarterback?

Speaker 8 (29:42):
Has the best quarterback in football ever had the leading
rusher on his team, So you can even say All
Pro has an All Pro quarterback ever had the best
running back?

Speaker 3 (29:54):
What about Lamar Jackson with Derrick Henry very good?

Speaker 8 (29:57):
Guess by you.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Thanks.

Speaker 8 (29:58):
So let's say Josh Allen comes All Pro this year
or at the very least, the opinion is that he's
the best quarterback in football.

Speaker 16 (30:04):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I would say this year he would be considered. It's him.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Stafford will be the MVP, but I think people would
still look at Josh.

Speaker 8 (30:12):
Allen and so James Cook could lead to the league
in rushing in the Super Bowl era as an All
Pro quarterback ever had the leading rusher on his roster
that year.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
In the Super Bowl era, So Lamar Jackson and Derrick Kenry.

Speaker 8 (30:26):
Derrick Henry was second leading rusher in the NFL last year.
But it's a good guest, twenty twenty four All Pro
Lamar Jackson, NFL's second leading rusher, Derrick Henry.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Okay, Troy Aikman.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
Troy Aikman was not an All Pro when he had
emmittt Smith, Joe Thaisman with John Riggins. Another good guess. No,
so here's the thing. It's never happened before in the
Super Bowl era. Well, wait a minute, don't you say.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Request? It wasn't true question I closed touchdown. However, we're staying.

Speaker 8 (31:06):
With the theme we need time producers. So yeah, when
we asked it, we assume there would be one. So
the closest was Lamar Jackson Derrick Henry. Pre Super Bowl
you had George Bland and Billy Cannon. That was like
nineteen sixty one. Dang, So it's uh Ladanian Thomas was

(31:26):
close back in the day with Philip Rivers. Yep, but
Rivers didn't make All Pro the year years almost had
love the NFL.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Andy and Rhode Island. Good morning, Andy, what's on your mind?
Good morning?

Speaker 7 (31:41):
What's up? Dannis?

Speaker 23 (31:42):
Dan?

Speaker 18 (31:43):
I hope y'all are having a great hoiding season and
a continuation going forward.

Speaker 7 (31:47):
I have a best and the worst view. I'm gonna
start off with the worst.

Speaker 18 (31:51):
It's gonna have to be the Duke Blue Devils coughing
up a seventeen point advantage.

Speaker 7 (31:58):
I had in the second half and they, you know,
caughed that up. And my best it's.

Speaker 18 (32:03):
Gonna have to go to Drake May where with his
first three hundred yard performance of the season of his career.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
I should add it just goes to show that, yeah,
it might not be his time.

Speaker 18 (32:13):
To get MVP, but he's standing up and letting everybody know, hey,
I'm here and Dan, if I could just add a
little bonus. Yesterday with the Pages being down in the
fourth quarter, it was the first time in nine years
since they came back from an eleven point deficit.

Speaker 7 (32:31):
And guess who was against the Atlanta Falcons of Super.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Bowl Three teams Seattle, Chicago, New England rallied from double
digit deficits in the fourth quarter to win. In week sixteen,
Randall in Virginia, Hi, Randall, what up?

Speaker 21 (32:48):
D people?

Speaker 16 (32:48):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Goodbye?

Speaker 20 (32:49):
Hey?

Speaker 16 (32:50):
Happy holidays to you and the dan Nets, Happy Honikah
to Fritzy, and happy festivals for the rest of us.
I have two words for you, But first I on
to comment on the Lions call. I haven't seen a
plot twist that hard since the last m Night Shamlot film.
I swear so. The worst of the weekend was the

(33:13):
special teams play on the two big time games that
we had, the Alabama Oklahoma and Miami touchest A and
m I mean, you can't make a field goal?

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Well, it was windy conditions, but you're right the Miami placekicker.
It's a good thing they won that game because that
would have been a rough ride home.

Speaker 21 (33:37):
That can work.

Speaker 16 (33:38):
I JM you Duke's Harrisburg. I'm in Norfolk. Harrisburg is
about three hours away. I have a couple of friends
that actually went to JMU, very nice campus. I thought
that would put up a fight, at least a better
fight than Tulane. After that first quarter I thought they
might have had a shot, but it all went downhill
from there.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
You know, once again, everybody's gonna say the same thing
about JM you and Tulane. It's not their fault. The committee,
they're the ones that allowed this to happen. They earn
those bids.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
You may not like it.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
It wasn't like, hey, we got names in a hat.
Pick it out, Oh JMU and Tulane. Sorry, Notre Dame
and Vandy. Not their fault.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
It's not your fault. It's not your fault. Good Will Hunting, Yeah, yeah,
Goodwill Hunting. It's not your fault.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
It's not your fault.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
That's that moment where he's going.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
It's it's not your sweater, kid, it's not your phone,
it's not your film.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
That is, that's not name. All right, it's not your fault, kid,
all right, Champ, it's not your fault.

Speaker 20 (34:55):
All right.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Let me take a break. When we come back. Our
best and worst of the Weekend.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Just got them from DraftKings, Rams and the Seahawks are
the two favorites. Then it's Buffalo, New England, Broncos, Eagles.
It's weird to look at the Eagles as underdogs and man,
did they turn it on against the Commanders. Now, granted
it's the Commanders without Jayden Daniels, but still they It's

(35:38):
kind of weird how they fell out of the national
conversation and it's like, yeah, but they're gonna have one
of those games, and Jalen Hurt's gonna have one of
those games. But the Rams in the Seahawks. Is there
a way for the forty nine Ers to have the
number one seed in the NFC? PAULI, There absolutely is.

Speaker 8 (35:57):
They need a little bit of help, but they mostly
can help them themselves. The Niners are ten and four,
the Seahawks are twelve and three. The forty nine Ers
host Philip Rivers tonight, so you think that could be
a win, They're I'm sorry, they're aticles. They host the
Bears next week, which will knock the Bears out of
the first seed, and then they host the Seahawks to

(36:19):
end the season. If the Rams can lose one and
they beat the Seahawks, the forty nine. Er've had the
number one seed.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
Yeah, but the Rams don't have a tough schedule.

Speaker 8 (36:28):
I think they have Cardinals Falcons. Yeah, there's a way though.

Speaker 2 (36:32):

Speaker 7 (36:53):
Best of the Weekend.

Speaker 11 (36:54):
Miami Hurricanes running back Mark Fletcher, You and your run
for a career high one hundred and seventy two yards
on seventeen carries. That against A and M he broke
one for fifty five yeards, leading to the game winning
and ONLYTD at College Station Worst, which we mentioned a
number of times today in bad losses to Ole Miss
and Oregon, tu Lane and James Madison not being competitive
at all Sally. It leaves college football fans everywhere wondering
what Notre Dame, Texas Vandy BYU type schools might have

(37:17):
done in that first round.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
Seat in Best and worst.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
My best of the weekend is Panthers' rookie safety Lathan Ransom.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
He was my worst of the weekend last week.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
He's just a week away from having just a brutal,
unnecessary roughness penalty that cost the Panthers the game.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Basically.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
Now this week he's kind of going from zero to hero.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Got himself.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
It's first NFL interception, intercepting Baker Mayfield to seal the game.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
That's really really great. Good for him.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
My worst of the weekend is sort of how with
each week that's ticking by, the Christmas slate of NFL
games just gets worse and worse. Oo, Cowboys, Commanders, he
got Lions, Vikings, Broncos, Chiefs, a lot of good brand
names in there, but man, those are not good teams.

(38:04):
They'll still dominate the NBA though, oh for sure. Yeah, Marvin.
Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 9 (38:09):
Best of the weekend Jalen Warren, Steelers running back fourteen carries.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
Did you hear PAULI this morning? Before we were even
on the show, he said this, Did you steal it?

Speaker 8 (38:22):
I always go last?

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Did you take it from him? I did not? Okay, Okay,
And just a coincidence front row.

Speaker 9 (38:30):
Worst of the weekend. Uh, this guy should be breathing
a sigh of relief. Miami Kicker. We talked about this earlier.
Carter Davis missing three field goals. They only won this
game by seven points, you know, lucky?

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah, Paulie, best and worst.

Speaker 8 (38:42):
I come up with something here. I'm going to go
with the Chargers on Marion Hampton. I love that he's
back for them. I think that makes them really dangerous.
He only had eighty five yards but one hundred and
fifty yards overall rushing for the Chargers in a really
nice win. And then the other best of the weekend
the FCS playoffs. Montana State handled Montana. What great setting

(39:02):
that was. And then Illinois State takes down Villanova. So
that sets up Monday, January fifth, ESPN Illinois State versus
Montana State for the FCS Championship.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
Jay and Delaware, Hi, Jay, what's on your mind?

Speaker 20 (39:17):
Hey?

Speaker 16 (39:17):
Darren?

Speaker 23 (39:17):
Marry Christmas to you and the Fellas. My first point
best week in sports to me? Professional boxing. One thing
Jake Paul did is he brought eyes back to boxing.
But the worst part about it is he finally met
a real boxer and Jake Paul admitted himself last week
that he went away from his cardio and put on

(39:38):
a lot of muscle and wait to get into this fight.
And being a big guy who used to box, there's
one thing you can't do is go up and wait pass.
It never ends well. Anthony Joshua's been at that weight,
so he times and you could see the smile on
his face when he set up Jake Paul like literally
does the freezepring of Anthony Joshua's face when he said him.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yeah, but it brought eyes to boxing, but it wasn't
a good product to bring eyes to That's that's the
problem I have with it.

Speaker 17 (40:08):
Jay.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
I mean, I'm I'm a big fan of boxing, but
it's actual boxing that I'm a fan of, not somebody
who is just you know, being a social media influencer
getting in the ring and look, he's a great marketer,
he is. Can't argue with that. I don't think he's
a great boxer. I mean he got in there against
somebody who was real and you saw what happened. When

(40:32):
real guys throw real punches, it really hurts, thank you, Jay.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Yeah? Not bringing boxing back? Yeah, Paul, Yeah, I.

Speaker 8 (40:43):
Tend to agree with you.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
I don't.

Speaker 8 (40:45):
These exhibition fights aren't part of a boxing resurgence. It
doesn't put any spotlight on if there are real flight
fights around him. Like if you put some type of
you know, middleweight championship fight as a primer and did
a spillover, sure, but they're not doing that.

Speaker 12 (41:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
If you got boxers who got in the ring and
got some recognition who don't normally get it, but you
want to introduce them, then great.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
But Jake Paul doesn't mean anything to me.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
When I go boy, you know Hagler, hearns, Leonard, Jake Paul,
I mean, come on, Evander Holyfield did go up and
wait and became a champ. Doesn't happen too often, though.
