Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Our two on this Thursday, Dan and the Dan Eds
Dan Patrick Show got baseball today and tonight, and you
got football. The Eagles seven point favorites against the Giants.
Good morning if you're watching on Peacock. That's our streaming partner,
and we say good morning to our radio affiliates around
the country. I'm trying to ease into retirement in a

(00:25):
couple of years, and Paulie just keeps packing things on
my schedule, on my agenda here, I'm trying to get
a couple of guys into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Mel Kiper I want him in the Pro Football Hall
of Fame, Barry Melrose into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
And then Pauli goes, I think we gotta help Don Mattingly.

(00:46):
He's only got two more years where he's eligible. Can
we get him into the baseball Hall of Fame?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, Paulie, Dan, I think again, two and a half
years left, You've done a lot of good work with
the football community. I think it's time to pivot to baseball.
Don Mattingly, at one time was the most feared hitter
in baseball, and he had a six year run of excellence,
and then he started getting nicked up and he wasn't
as good and it was much harder to make the postseason.
Back then there wasn't the wild card. He would have

(01:14):
made four more postseasons, but his down years were to
eighty eight to ninety one, three h four. Those are
his last three seasons. Yeah, and I'll give you a
couple of names. As long as you're doing these. We
mentioned this guy before, Steve Garvey. You can't make ten
All Star teams and not go to the Hall of Fame.
There's got to be some type of rule against that. Yeah,

(01:36):
apparently can. And I'll throw one more. We could do
this all at one shot. Dale Murphy went back to
back MVPs. If he did that in football, he'd probably
be first ballot.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
He almost had. I think, if I think if he
ended up with four one hundred and fifty home runs,
he he was like three ninety eight. I think.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
You're right, it's three ninety eight. But there's no difference.
He was the same guy I know, I.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Know, and.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Maybe the nicest guy I ever met in sports Dale Murphy,
But I just don't know, and I know, he went
from being a catcher to center fielder, and he played
on some interesting teams. But I just don't think you know,
there wasn't postseason play, and it felt like he had
two incredible years. But that's all we remember, yes, Marvin.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Yeah, we got to fight for some of these guys
because we're getting away from the compiling getting into the
Hall of Fame to how great were you at the
peak of your powers a la Kurt Warner and Terrell Davis?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
So how great was Steve Garvey? Should be in the
Hall of Fame? He should be. I mean, you played
for the Dodgers. I think he was a very good
postseason player. Ten All Star appearances, you know, this isn't
the Pro Bowl, this is ten All Star appearances.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Yes, Paul, you know, and the phrase hall of Fame.
If you want to talk about famous ballplayers, throw Steve Garvey,
Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy in the BIX. They were
household names at one time in their career. Roger Marris
is not in the Hall of Fame? Is he no
back to back MVPs with the Yankees and you can't
make the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, but he just didn't have great numbers, Like, there's
a certain threshold where I think you have to get there. Now.
Back in the old days, you'd have guys who would
make the Hall of Fame and you go with those stats.
It's just different. And I do think that we look
at these numbers and we want to be wowed by numbers,
and I think, you know, for a lot of these

(03:37):
guys were not wowed. David Concepcione to me is as
I mean, he invented fielding on astro turf and throwing
that one hop from deep short and he played for
the Big Red Machine. He should be in the Hall
of Fame. But I'm more lenient when it comes to this.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, Paulie, I'm going to go back to Steve Garvey
for those don't remember him with the Dodgers and the
Padres in the seventies and eighties. Ten All Star appearances, right,
he's got He hit two ninety four for his career,
He's a two time NLCS MVP, he was hit three
forty in the postseason. I can't think of a reason
not to put him in the Hall of Fame at
this point.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, And you know, maybe the Veterans Committee can help
remedy this, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
Seaton, we kind of sounds like there making the case
for a very very strong hal of very good.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Well, they're definitely the Hall of very very good.

Speaker 6 (04:32):
It sounds like Steve Garvey is an elite level Hall
of very gooder.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Well, can you can you have like the lowest of
low hall of famer where it's he's Hall of famish,
but he got into the Hall of fame? Can we like,
let's be fair to the bottom rung of the hall
of fame, like in the top run.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Like being the smallest state. You're delaware your state, just
like anybody else.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Do a state.

Speaker 7 (04:57):
Yes, Todd, I think anyone on the fence about Steve
GARDI should take into account his handsomeness and his forearms
and then just put it over the top and he
goes into Cooperstown.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
All right, fairpoint, Thank you, Tod. By the way, from
the crew that brought you the Office comes a new
comedy of underdogs with major issues. No, it's not about us,
it's the papers streaming now only on Peacock. So baseball
coming up tonight. I don't know why the Dodgers are
starting at six oh eight Eastern Time, threeh eight Pacific time.

(05:26):
Those shadows are going to play a big role in
that game. So Philly's at the Dodgers and you have
the Brewers at the Cubs. Brewers Cubs is two hours later.
I would have thought you might switch those two, but
then I'm not sure what Baseball's thinking. And three hours later,

(05:47):
but two hours with the time zone, so locally it's
two hours Todd, can you check with Major League Baseball
just ask why the Dodgers are playing at three oh
eight local? Sure, yeah, because I'm sure there's a reason
for this. But I would have thought maybe I want
to see the Dodgers Phillies. I would think the nation

(06:09):
would want to see that over a local rivalry with
the Cubs and the Brewers. But that's why these TV
executives and commissioners get the big bucks. Eight seven seven
three DP show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle a DP show. So the Phillies bats came
to life last night, and Clayton Kershaw paid the price.

(06:30):
Schwarber went deep twice. The Yankees they're done, Blue Jays
closed them out, and the Tigers and Mariners. That's a
great series. I don't know if people are watching, but
and it's on in the afternoon East Coast time. It's
been great. So Tigers Mariners tied it two games apiece yesterday.

(06:50):
When I got done with the show, I started, you know,
checking out some different towns up in Maine, and I
saw one that had merchandise. It had memorabilia. So I
all of a sudden walk by the window and I,
if you're watching on Peacock, I got my show. Heo

(07:11):
Tani Jersey. That's got what looks like little paint splatters
on it, but it's it's sharp. So I was walking by.
It's got World Series champs in twenty twenty four, and
I got my show. Heyo Tani Jersey. Now not signed,
by the way, this one I got signed. I was

(07:33):
walking by and I saw this one in the window
as well. This is Ricky Williams Jersey when he was
with the Dolphins. But if you look closely, he autocrafted
and it says at the very bottom of his number,
smoke weed every day. So I got I mean the
Ricky Williams smoke weed every day Jersey. I've got it

(07:59):
all now, Yes see.

Speaker 6 (08:00):
I think that's what they mean by a certificate of authenticity.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
That what that that's how you know, Yeah, smoke weed
every day. And then he autographed that. I spent a
couple of hundred bucks and I'll bring them back to
the man cave. Yes, Paul.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
How does a autograph Ricky Williams Jersey end up in
rural Maine.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
That's an interesting path. Well, you get people who go
to these places in New York and Boston and then
they bring I, you know, weed is big and Maine,
so maybe they figured somebody. I'm not a pothead foker.
But I just thought that's a great autograph there by
Ricky smoke weed every day, Yes, Pum.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Ricky Williams, by the way, is in the hall of
guys who should be in the Hall of Fame, but
their careers got dismantled. He at age twenty five, he
ran for nineteen hundred yards and sixteen touchdowns. He was
first team All Pro, and then two years later he's
out of football, and they had to go back and
forth and back and forth.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Pot became more important to him, and he went on
these sojourns and yeah, just go camping and get high.
And I don't know what he's doing now, but probably
not a whole lot more they're different than what he
was doing before. Yes, yeah, that was two thousand and four.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
If he played in the NFL now, with their lax
testing rules, he'd probably never miss a game.

Speaker 8 (09:18):
Do that.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I'm being serious. He probably would have just cruised on
with his career.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Oh yeah, he probably would have you know, stayed playing.
But you know so, that's my latest addition to the
memorabilia collection that we have in the mand Cap all
Right Seaton Poll question for hour one the final results
and what are we going to go with an hour two?

Speaker 6 (09:40):
Worst way to lose a playoff baseball game? He's strikeout looking,
grounding into a double play error in the field, or
give up the game winning home run Right now, strikeout
looking is in the lead, followed very.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Closely by error in the field. Yeah, I agree with that.
I agree with that. You give up a home run.
You give up a home run. I know it's re
played forever, but you got to have the bat off
your shoulder. You can't just be there and take it
looking or you have an embarrassing error. What's the whole
question for hour two? I want to hear from the
to double d you see with the Yankees eliminated, how

(10:16):
much more interested? Are you in baseball postseason? Very or less?

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Much more interested now that the Yankees are out?

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Are you less interested? I'm not much more interested because
the Yankees are out. I would still want to see them.
I mean, I want to see Aaron Judge. So I'm
not more interested that the best player in you know,
the American League is not playing in a series.

Speaker 6 (10:42):
I'm guessing what Todd's getting at here is it's boring
to see the Yankees dominate or always.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Be dominated in a long time.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
Well, maybe they're not necessarily winning, but they are kind
of always in the mix winning.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
And they're talked about a lot win loser draws this.
You know, you can't keep talking about the Yankees while
there's other teams still alive in the playoffs for you.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, but you brought this question up.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
I did, and I'm I've seen probably expressed it better
than I did. That's why I came up with that.
There are people that are maybe more interested because great
the Yankees are out of it. Maybe I'm gonna take
more of a peek at baseball. So I'm sick of
the pin stripes and the Bronx Bombers and you know,
other other teams, even though it's been two thousand and
nine since they won the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, but you have people tune in to watch Notre
Dame lose, to watch Duke Louse, and you might tune
in to watch the Yankees lose. But I'm not less
interested because I still would want to see Aaron Judge.

Speaker 6 (11:38):
Yes, and it's funny to see all these fan bases,
like Red Sox fans and Mets fans were celebrating, Yes,
celebrating like ah, Yankees lost, we won. Yeah, somehow I
feel better about my yeares the Blue Jays beat the Yankees.
Toronto has scored thirty four runs in the playoffs, the

(12:00):
fourth most by any team through its first four postseason
games in baseball history. Vlad Guerrero hit five twenty nine
with three homers. Aaron Judge ended up this postseason batting
five hundred, seven RBIs and five runs scored. Get a
couple of phone calls in here, we'll talk to Ross Tucker.

(12:20):
He'll get us ready for the Eagles and the Giants.
What kind of offense are we expecting to see with
the Eagles tonight? Because it feels like we're gonna run
the ball now we're going to pass the ball. Now
we got to play cater wide receivers. Now, both of
our star receivers are not happy with the game plan here.
But through it all, you could probably make the argument

(12:41):
that they're still the best team.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
In the NFC. Let's see. Heather in Indianapolis leads us off.
Good morning, Heather, what's on your mind?

Speaker 9 (12:51):
Good morning guys, First time, longtime, five to nine at
a medium one seventy five. So Notre Dame versus U,
Dan and Dannette. I'm taking my husband for his first
visit ever to Notre Dame and the game, but only
because you and the Danettes are going.

Speaker 10 (13:08):
To be there.

Speaker 9 (13:09):
I know you guys are broadcasting from Legends, and I'll
be there with my new pass Whole shirt, which will
be appropriate as my husband likes to camp in that
left lane, especially with towing the camper. But I hope
more details come out about how early we need to
be lined up to get in. Also, just wanted to
give a shout out to our state of Indiana. I

(13:31):
feel like we're glowing in sports right now. Dan the
culture ranked number one, I use undefeated. Notre Dame is
Notre Dame the fever on fire this year, the Pacers
are looking great even without Holley and our local Brownsburg
Bulldog high school football teams ranked twenty two in the nation.
It might be good at something this year, but just

(13:52):
a great vibe in Indiana.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Alrighty, thank you, Heather. We look forward to seeing you.
We'll give you details, and probably on Monday, I'll get
a better lay of the land of when to show up,
where to show up, all of those different things. But
Cat in Seattle, Hi, Cat, what's on your mind?

Speaker 8 (14:12):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (14:12):
Good morning, five eight toned. I have a husband's Todd,
who is celebrating the big five oh to day and
his birthday.

Speaker 11 (14:23):
Wish is to know y'all favorite sandwiches.

Speaker 10 (14:26):
But I'd love to hear any words of wisdom you
have for a man coming into this next decade of life.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Oh turn in fifty is awesome. You know now all
of a sudden people look to you for wisdom. Now
they you know, when you say things, there's more respect.
It feels like, well, he's fifty. As far as my
favorite sandwich, favorite sandwich, Todd, I'll start.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
With you as much as I love like a corned
beef pastrami. Reuben Kind of thing with the with the
thousand hundreds. I'm going to go a chicken palm hero
would have to be my number one. A nice chicken
palm here.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Okay, uh, Seaton favored sandwich.

Speaker 6 (15:07):
Well, it's the first thing that popped in my head
because it is probably the greatest sandwich ever made. It's
almost more like a meal, but an Italian beef sandwich
is as good as anything can possibly be.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Okay, Marvin grewed cheese sandwich.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Oh simple, Paul, this is by far the toughest question
I've ever been asked in my life, barely joking, seating
through the curveball of Italian beef at me, I'm gonna
go chicken cutlet with mozzarella and prejuete and olive oil namic.
That's my one seed.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I think I'm going peanut butter and jelly. I've fallen
back in love with pebe and jay.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
What if we said meat related sandwiches.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Oh, meat relig well, like Marvion said, grilled cheese, grilled
cheese with tomato soup, can't go wrong. That was a
staple and the else hold every Friday. Yeah, see dynamite
combo those two right there. What if we only did
a cold sandwich. Cold sandwich.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Yeah, we all went with hot sandwiches. But what if
you could only do like a ham and cheese or
a turkey sandwich or a you know, more traditional lunch.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Fair I'd go Turkey Club, Turkey Club.

Speaker 7 (16:19):
What if you had to pick a sandwich that wasn't
the choice of eight year olds, like grilled cheese and
peanut butter and jelly.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
An eight year old Coming from an eight year old.

Speaker 7 (16:29):
I couldn't resist like grilled cheese a bit, but a
jelly baloney cheese.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Maybe it's an eighty year old, not an eight year old.
Life does go full circle like that.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
It does.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
There's too sensitive, you can't. I can't chew on that
at steak is hurting me.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
I goettingenough fruit punch with that?

Speaker 8 (16:54):
Right you?

Speaker 2 (16:55):
You piling on me?

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Has a Friday other show. I'm trying to create a
Friday grow I don't.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Know, no, no, no no, I don't want to speed
up Friday Fritzy. Friday is enough the.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
Seventh in the world where you guys said peanut but
or jelly at grilled cheese. Someone had to say something,
so I took it upon my shot.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
But Tom I'm very simple to be said. That's what
I'm gonna talk about. To drop it there.

Speaker 7 (17:20):
About Jelliot grilled cheese. I'm gonna talk on top.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
You know.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I'm gonna keep talking me over here. Okay, are you done?
Are you dumb?

Speaker 7 (17:30):
I'm dumb and done Orange High see please Lava Birth.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Okay, let me take a break. We'll talk some football.
Ross Tucker, our good buddy, will join us. Coming up.
We're back after this on The Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.

Speaker 8 (17:55):
He's Mike Carmen. I'm Dan Bayern.

Speaker 12 (17:57):
We have a brand new fantasy football podcast called I
Want Your Flex. Twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday,
we come up with new episodes to not only look
back at what happened, what you need to do at
that minute, and also look ahead of what's coming up
in the fantasy football world.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
That's right, Dan.

Speaker 13 (18:15):
Every week we're going to scour the waiver wire to
find the pickups to turbot boost your fantasy lineup. Six starts,
fantasy football players rankings to get you ready to dominate
the competition.

Speaker 12 (18:26):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
me Dan Beyer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts and
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
I don't think it's going to be an aerial display tonight.
Giants and the Eagles. DraftKings has Jackson Dart over under
one hundred and seventy seven and a half passing yards
Jalen Hurts over under one ninety five and a half.
The Eagles are favored by seven at New York. He's
Ross Tucker CBS Sports and Westwood One NFL college football analyst,

(18:58):
and he is the host of the Ross Tucker Football Podcast.
He called the Niners Rams last weekend, Air Force and
Navy as well. He's got the Monday night game between
the Bears and the Commanders, always good to see. Ross.
What do you expect out of this Eagle offense now?
Because I'm confused that they're still it seems like trying

(19:20):
to find their identity of what kind of offense they
are or they want to be.

Speaker 14 (19:26):
I think Dan, that they're going to get back to
what they had success with last year, which is running
the football. Now they have not run it as well
this year as they did last year. I think the
biggest reason for that is probably the offensive line. You know,
for whatever reason, and there's a couple of them, they
have not performed as well as he did last year.

(19:48):
I thought last year they were pretty clearly the best
offensive line in the NFL.

Speaker 8 (19:54):
This year they haven't been.

Speaker 14 (19:55):
I don't even know if they were a top five
unit with how they played. Yeah, guy like Jurgens at center,
Landon Dickerson left guard who's now out again coming off
of major surgeries. You have a new right guarden, Tyler Steen,
and it just has not looked the same as it
did last year. Although in fairness, they also only gave

(20:16):
Saquon Barkley the ball one time last week against Denver
when they had a two touchdown lead. My guess is
that going against a Giants run defense that's been really
bad for a while, and Saquon yet again playing against
his former team in a primetime game, this feels to

(20:37):
me like a Saquon Barkley breakout game, Like a big
Saquon Barkley game.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
You would think if they were going to do it,
tonight would be the night.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
So this will be a market correction with the Eagles.

Speaker 14 (20:50):
I would think, so listen, they're just too talented to
not be better on offense. I mean, we said this
last year, but last year they had the best running
back in the sport. They had the best offensive line
in the sport. They had one of the two or
three best wide receiver duos, they had a top five

(21:10):
tight end, super Bowl MVP quarterback. Those guys are all
still there. You know, they had ten of the eleven
starters returning this year. So I think sometimes since they
don't play in the preseason at all, teams are playing
them a little bit differently. I guess I don't know
when it'll fully click, Dan, but I would be surprised

(21:33):
if in December when I come on with you, we're
still talking about the Eagles issues offensively.

Speaker 8 (21:38):
I think they have a new offensive coordinator that makes
a difference.

Speaker 14 (21:42):
Some guys aren't playing as well as they did last year,
and defenses are playing them differently as they should, and
they're kind of trying to figure out the best plan
of attack.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
How much of an upgrade is Joe Flacco for the Bengals.

Speaker 14 (21:58):
You know, that's a great quest question. I'm not sure
because a couple of years ago. I thought Browning was
outstanding for the Bengals as their backup and really played well.

Speaker 8 (22:12):
I mean, there's a reason why he's been in.

Speaker 14 (22:13):
The backup the last couple of years because of how
well he did whatever that was, I think it was
twenty twenty three, you know, he did so well they
were pretty happy with him as a backup. I think
the Bengals, I don't want to say caught flat footed Dan,
but I think they were surprised that he didn't play better.

Speaker 8 (22:31):
I think they.

Speaker 14 (22:31):
Really thought he's been in this system for a few years,
he played well when given the opportunity in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 8 (22:39):
It's kind of stunning.

Speaker 14 (22:41):
Maybe even it sounds like to Browning the way based
on how he's talking.

Speaker 8 (22:45):
That he didn't play better.

Speaker 14 (22:47):
The flatcoat thing is fascinating because I think that they
are trying to give their fans and maybe even the
locker room some hope.

Speaker 8 (22:58):
You know, it's not an organization that likes to really spend.

Speaker 14 (23:01):
And they went out and they're they're paying Hendrickson and
Chase and Higgins.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
They don't want to give up on this year.

Speaker 14 (23:08):
Yet they're still suggesting that Joe Burrow could come back
later in the year.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
I would just say this, Dan, I highly doubt it.

Speaker 14 (23:16):
I mean, I highly doubt we will see Joe Burrow
this season. I guess if Flaco can surprise us and
they're still in the playoff race in December, then maybe.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
Burrow would try to come back at that point.

Speaker 14 (23:30):
But I don't think they'll still be in the playoff
race at that point. I don't think Flacco will play
that well. I think if Flacco was playing that well,
he would still be the quarterback in Cleveland, although he
also didn't have these receivers. You know, we've seen Flacco
a couple of years ago when he took the Browns
the playoffs thrown all over the place. I know this much, Dan,

(23:50):
He's forty, he's made over two hundred million dollars.

Speaker 8 (23:54):
He doesn't care.

Speaker 14 (23:55):
I mean, it.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
Should be entertaining as heck.

Speaker 14 (23:57):
I'm hoping that Flaco just chuck to Higgins and Chase
and that the Bengals become very, very entertaining if nothing else.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
The Brown situation, they've moved on. Now where you ship
Flacco to Cincinnati. Now you have your two rookies in there.
And I thought Dylan Gabriel handled being overseas your first
start and against a complex defense like the Vikings. But
I just wonder, and the Browns are doing what I
was hoping they would do it. Let's give these two

(24:28):
kids enough of a runway where we're going to find
out if they're a starting quarterback. Maybe they're destined to
be a backup quarterback. But what do you make of
this situation of the Are the Browns saying we're waiting
until next year already? By making this move by getting
rid of Flacco, they.

Speaker 8 (24:48):
Are very clearly.

Speaker 14 (24:50):
You know they always say we have one eye on
the president, one eye on the future. Well, the Browns
at this point have like a magnifying glass on that
that's looking at the future. I mean, just look at
the trades they've made this week.

Speaker 8 (25:05):
Okay, you move on from Flacco.

Speaker 14 (25:08):
You're not doing that because you're trying to win more
games this year. You're doing that because you want to
take a look at both Gabriel and Shador Sanders. And
I do think Shador, unless Gabriel plays very very well,
I would imagine that we would see Shador for at
least three or four games this year because I think
they want to know at the end of this year,

(25:29):
is Gabriel one two or three? Is shador A one
two or three?

Speaker 8 (25:33):
What do we have?

Speaker 14 (25:34):
And then they make this trade yesterday with the Jaguars
flopping cornerbacks.

Speaker 8 (25:40):
Think about that. Okay, why would they do that?

Speaker 14 (25:43):
Because Greg Newsom is a free agent after this season.
They probably don't want to pay Greg Newsom the huge
money he's gonna get. Tyson Campbell meanwhile, got his big
contract before last season. The Jaguars have already given them
the big bonus, already given him a lot of the
guaranteed money. So now the Browns have Tyson Campbell cost

(26:07):
controlled for the rest of this year twenty twenty six,
twenty twenty seven. So the Browns I think, are making
some shrewd moves to set themselves up to be as
competitive as possible next year, and that includes finding out.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
What they have with Gabriel and shador.

Speaker 14 (26:24):
It's kind of funny because, obviously, Dan, they want Gabriel
to play as well as possible, I mean, hopefully Gabriel
is a starter, and they love him, but they also
kind of, I think, want to see what Shador has
at some point, so that will be really interesting to see.
I mean, it wasn't that surprising when they moved on
from Flacco to Gabriel. I think it will be actually

(26:45):
interesting when they move on from Gabriel to Shador if
that happens.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Ross Tucker, CBS Sports Westwood One analyst, the Ross Tucker
Football Podcast. How important is this game Sunday the Chiefs
and the Lions for Kansas City?

Speaker 8 (27:01):
I'd say vary at this point.

Speaker 14 (27:04):
You know, now they're fortunate that the Broncos have lost
a couple close ones and that the Chargers are so
beat up as always. I mean, Dan, there's certain teams,
the Niners, the Chargers, the Lions. I don't I mean,
I heard you talking about DraftKings earlier. We should all
every year just bet the over injuries for those three teams.

Speaker 8 (27:26):
It's unbelievable. And so now the.

Speaker 14 (27:28):
Chargers are in a bad spot, so that makes it
a little bit more palatable for the Chiefs. But he
still can't go to two and four, right, I Mean,
what they're looking like they're headed for is having to
win some road playoff games, which they did a couple
of years ago.

Speaker 8 (27:44):
But this is a big game. I think they don't
want to get to two and four.

Speaker 14 (27:49):
Three and three's a lot different, and I really like
the Chiefs in this game quite a bit.

Speaker 8 (27:55):
The Lions are just getting two beat up again.

Speaker 14 (27:57):
You know, they're missing a couple d linemen, but now
they're down Terry and Arnold at corner, so they're without
their top corners. Right when Mahomes and the Chiefs passing
game is starting to click a little bit with Xavier Worthy.
They'll get Rashi Rice back soon. I think the second
half of the year, we're gonna see probably the best

(28:18):
Chiefs offense we've seen in a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
How does Baker Mayfield win MVP?

Speaker 8 (28:25):
Keep doing what he's doing.

Speaker 14 (28:27):
I mean, he's got my vote right now, you know,
because not only is he playing awesome, he's just so
fun to watch.

Speaker 8 (28:34):
Why can't every guy be like Baker?

Speaker 14 (28:38):
It is funny though, because when he was in Cleveland
and would act certain ways, people would say he was
a brasher, immature. You know, now that he's winning and
he's with the Bucks, now it's moxie and guts, you know,
like he staid up, still acting the same. I'm just

(28:59):
playing better and there's a lot of truth to that.
But love watching him. Listen they have been so beat
up on their offensive line, and they haven't had a
game yet with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. When
they get Geedicky back at right tackle and then they
have Mike Evans, Godwin and Abuca at receiver, I mean

(29:20):
we might need to start talking about the Bucks as
being as much of a favorite to go to the
Super Bowl from the NFC as anybody.

Speaker 8 (29:28):
You can put Detroit in there, Green Bay, the Eagles.

Speaker 14 (29:31):
Whoever, when when the Bucks are healthy, I think they're
as good as anybody.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Before I let you go. Do you ever have a
moment like the coach treating you the way Jonathan Gannon
acted on the sidelines with the Cardinals. Did anybody ever
put their hands on you, get in your face?

Speaker 8 (29:51):
No? I don't ever remember that.

Speaker 14 (29:53):
And I think that's a really really good thing, Dan,
because you know, even though I'm now and I'm more
mild tempered, I guess when when you're out there, Okay,
I thought, Dan, in my head for those three hours,
I thought I was the biggest, baddest dude in the world,

(30:14):
and I had to have that mentality to be able
to compete with those guys I was going against I
was ready and I often did hit anything that moved.
We can't get in this scenario where coaches are touching
NFL players.

Speaker 8 (30:31):
That's not going to go well for the coaches a
lot of times.

Speaker 14 (30:34):
I mean, I think he's fortunate that de Mercado was,
you know, took.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
It that way, and I guess was sad. But there
are other guys don't.

Speaker 14 (30:43):
It's hard to see from the video exactly what he did,
but that would not go well if you look at
it over time. If there's a lot of coaches touching
a lot of players, that will not go well for
the coaches and could lead to some really, really ugly incidents.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
We were asked our favorite sandwiches. I'm sure you being
in a fisionado of both hot and cold sandwiches, would
you like to give us your favorites.

Speaker 14 (31:12):
Yeah, I mean my favorite cold sandwich is just any
type of Italian sub Absolutely love it. I mean, you
can heat it up if you want, but you know,
the pepperoni, the salami, the capa cola, American cheese, spicy
mustard obviously, which, by the way, there are still some
restaurants out there and sandwich shops that don't have deli

(31:33):
or spicy mustard, and they're literally selling Deli sandwiches.

Speaker 8 (31:38):
They're very well known, they might be a sponsor, so
I won't call them out.

Speaker 14 (31:41):
The hot sandwich everybody already knows the greatest sandwich of
all time is the sausage McMuffin with egg for McDonald's.

Speaker 8 (31:49):
Everybody knows this. There shouldn't be a debate.

Speaker 14 (31:53):
Sausage McMuffin with egg for McDonald's still undefeated, the greatest
hot sandwich of all time. I used to get three,
Now I only get two because I'm crazy healthy.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Great to talk to you. Thank you for giving us
those great sandwich suggestions. Pauli's got his head in his
hand right now. You're so disappointed, Ross.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
You're so much better than that in what way?

Speaker 1 (32:19):
What?

Speaker 3 (32:19):
I love a sausage, egg and cheese, but there's bigger,
better ones out there, and you should know that. Like
what I'm just saying, I love the sandwich choice sausage,
egg and cheese, but McDonald's not necessarily the best.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
It's delicious. You haven't had one in.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
A long time, that's true.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
Yeah, Paul likes his sausage, EG and cheese a little
more bespoke Yeah, a nicer dread, a nice saucy yeah,
range free.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
I want to be actually more like in a crummy deli.
I'm also find with a deli that looks like it's
not up to code.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Thank you, Ross, great to you boys, have a great weekend.
That's Ross Tucker. He's host of the Ross Tucker Football podcast.
Imagine that there's a Ross Tucker football podcast, and then
they find somebody with the very same name, the Ross
Tucker Football Podcast. That's incredible. All right, welcome back your

I asked, Fritzy, would you reach out to Major League
Baseball and ask them why the Dodgers Game four is
going to be at three pm Local time in Los Angeles?
And the response we got was Eagles game tonight at
eight fifteen Eastern, So trying to have them not completely overlap.
So you got the Dodgers that'll start, and then you'll

(33:50):
have the Eagles game, and then the Cubs and the
Brewers will be starting a little after that as well,
so I guess staggered start. I was just surprised that
the Dodgers and the Shadows will play a big role
at Dodgers Stadium for a three o'clock local time start.
Let's see Mike and Wisconsin. Hi Mike, what's on your mind?

Speaker 14 (34:14):
Hey?

Speaker 15 (34:14):
Good morning, Dan, Thanks for taking my call. Two things
for you today. You mentioned earlier Kyle Schwarber hit a
twenty third postseason home run last night, which puts some
third on the all time list, But I have to
point out second on that list with twenty seven home
runs as jose L Tuova, but he hit seven of
those in twenty seventeen on Fritzy's cheaters, so that doesn't

(34:35):
really count. And then, speaking of Fritzy, you guys had
mentioned possibly doing a podcast with him. I think if
you did a collab with Fritzy and Stu Gotts that
that might be the most entertaining podcast on the planets.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
All right, well, I'll take that under advisement there, Fritzy
with Stu Gotts from the Dan LeBatard Show. Jake and Florida. Hi, Jake,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (35:00):
Good morning, Dan? D excuse me a second time? Long
time six foot two forty Uh we were talking. You're
talking Don Magley just a little while ago. I'm actually
me and Don Mangley share the same hometown of Evansville, Indiana.
A couple of quick stats. Quick stats of Don throughout

(35:22):
his career. He went to Memorial High School, which is
a parochial school in Evansville. Throughout his four year career
the Memorial Tigers. He batted.

Speaker 8 (35:34):
Jake.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Jake, I don't want to open up a strat bok here. Okay,
I'm sure he had great high school stats, so did I. Okay,
we're just talking about the Hall of Fame and you're
not getting into the Hall of Fame based off your
high school stats. But thank you, thank you for calling.
Mark and Georgia. Hi, Mark, what's on your mind? Hey

(35:56):
Mark Phillip Hello.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
A player's entire career is the criteria for inclusion into
the Hall, But every now and then that criteria seems
to get jettisoned in favor of some dramatic or iconic moment.
I grew up a Pirates fan, and that makes me
think about Maz's nineteen sixty home run against the Yankees.

(36:25):
So this is where I kind of think the Veterans
Committee goes wrong a little bit, leaning in a little
bit too much on sentimentality. But you know, if maz
doesn't hit that home run, he's not even in the conversation.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
No, and you will have people and thank you for
the phone call that you know, don't think that Mazeroski
is a Hall of Famer. Didn't have the numbers, but
he hit one of the most important home runs in
baseball history. Lucas in Texas, Hi, Luke, what's on your mind?

Speaker 16 (36:54):
Be da Good morning, Morny. You know, I've made it
clear for many years I'm an Astros fan, and so
first off, the color or a few callers ago, you know,
stuck at that guy. But whatever, Hey, I love baseball.
I love baseball overall, and I will say, outside of
my own fandom, I have to say there's nothing quite
like listening to Wrigley Field after a playoff win. And

(37:16):
I think the TV networks do a.

Speaker 17 (37:17):
Really good job of letting go Cubs go play and
you kind of hear that in the background.

Speaker 16 (37:22):
It's awesome. And that got me thinking, is that unique
in American pro sports? I mean, college does.

Speaker 15 (37:29):
It really well?

Speaker 17 (37:30):
You know, they have songs Rocky Top or something, and
like international call teams you know Liverpool as You'll ever
Walk Alone, and like American teams like there's Fly Eagles, Fly,
Fritzy loves to do his knicks rap or anything. But
it really make me think, does any pro team in
America have a customized song for that team that fits
them as well as Go Cubs Go, especially after a

(37:54):
playoff win in October?

Speaker 2 (37:57):
Well you have the Red Socks with Sweet Caroline, not
exactly a fight song, but it's it's their seventh inning stretch,
the Bulls with that home music, what was that? The
Alan Parsons project, yep, with that introduction with Jordan and company.

(38:20):
That was you know, it's got to be anthemic where
you hear it and it belongs in that stadium, and
I think that's where it stands out now. You know,
college football has done a great job with that, a
variety of those, but trying to think if there's any
other ones where you go, oh, that's awesome to hear that,
or hear that in the context of a big moment,

(38:41):
a big game. Trevor in Orlando, Hi, Trevor, what's on
your mind?

Speaker 18 (38:46):
Say Dan, how's it going six two twenty yesterday, you
were talking about quarterbacks making tackles after interceptions. I think
Polly brought up Cam Newton heard ash was never really
the same after making a time about twenty years ago,
Warren Sapp blindside hit that linement on the on the Packers,
Chad Clifton had a pretty significant injury, almost led to

(39:08):
a brawl on the sideline. I was wondering if you
think in the interest of player safety they already changed
the roles as far as blindside blocks and low blocks.
Do you think there'll ever come to a point where
the interceptions just rolled down, there's no chance for returning.
They definite they make the interception.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
No, No, it's exciting play.

Speaker 8 (39:31):
You know.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Just the fact that Ed Reid every time he made
an interception, he was going to score a touchdown. His
mindset was to score a touchdown. I can't see them
ever saying hey, you know, for the safety of the game,
we're going to take that out of the game. No,
I love it. I mean, there's nothing like a pick
six that changes the complexion of the game. Thanks for

(39:55):
the phone calls, Seaton, Would you update the poll results
from hour two of this award nomine program. Yep, I
would be happy to do that for you. Let's see,
we got two of them up there right now.

Speaker 6 (40:04):
The baseball postseason is better with the Yankees or without
the Yankees. Right now, sixty five percent of the audience
say without the Yankees. And the worst way to lose
a playoff game in baseball is to strike out looking
followed by an error in the field.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yep, I agree. So Joe Flacco is I guess starting
for the Bengals against the Packers. He's already beaten the Packers.
And here's Zach Taylor talking about Flacco and his status
for Sunday.

Speaker 19 (40:32):
Played him a lot, watched him a lot, brings great,
great experience, great leadership. His style fits our style of
play too, so excited to get him out there. We'll
start him this week. So he's gonna take all the reps,
get ready to go. Already spend a lot of time
meeting with us, getting at the speed. So feel really
good about where he's at.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Now, what changes for the Bengals? Now you got Jake Browning,
who had played well you know, previous starts, not this season.
But then Flacco is not good enough to keep his
job with the Brown but then he's good enough to
start for the Bengals, and the Bengals, I still don't
know how you don't have great numbers even if you

(41:08):
lose games that you still have your great receivers there.
That was what was the biggest surprise is they didn't
put up big numbers with Higgins and Jamar. Two hours
in the books, One more to go. We'll get to
more of your phone calls coming up eight seven seven
