Babe Ruth is the worst trade in sports history by
the Red Sox. It changed an entire sport.

Jason Garrett NBC Football Night in America studio analyst and

(01:51):
you can see him on Football Night in America with
seven Eastern with the cruise. They get ready for the
Lions and the Eagles kickoff will be eight to twenty.
Help me understand this from a coaching perspective, because I
saw where Brian Dable was being blamed a little bit
for Jackson Dart's reckless play and being in concussion protocol

(02:13):
or looked at for concussions. Being in the blue ten
four times through seven games is not an accident. So
what role you know? Does the coach play in how
a player plays, particularly your quarterback.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
It's a tricky question. A happy birthday to Melissa, by
the way, A tricky question. I think when you call
a lot of quarterback design runs, that's where you can
take some responsibility. You know, you can talk to quarterbacks
so you're blue in the face about hey, slide, do
all that kind of stuff. Typically those lessons are learned

(02:49):
by experience. They get hit a couple of times and
they realize, hey, I'm not a running back. These guys
in the NFL are big and strong. They knock you around,
they start sliding. But I think when you're calling design
nine quarterback runs, which the Giants do, you can take
some responsibility as a coach. You know, they love that quarterback.
You know, it's the old John madd used to call it.

(03:10):
You know the counter trade play that John Riggans used
to run. You know what they're doing in football these
days is they're running that play with the quarterback. They're
they're pulling the backside guard, the backside tackle, and he's
running downhill like a running back would run. And it's
it's been a really good play for the Giants. But
you know, when you're calling those plays you just have
to be careful of calling that thing too much.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
What do you see or don't see from Jordan Love.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
Oh, I see someone who's got a bright future, who
just plays a little bit inconsistently.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
You know. I love him to death.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Sometimes I get concerned that he that he throws the
ball off his back foot a little bit too much.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
You know, he has this.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Ability, and I think he probably learned from being around
Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball from so many different positions,
and it's rare and and so much of playing quarterback
in the NFL is.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Having the to do that.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
But when the pocket is clean, stand in there and
throw it. And I think sometimes he misses throws because
of that and gets a little frivolous. So and then
that kind of builds on itself. So I'm really bullish
on the guy. I think he's a heck of a player.
He's a little bit streaky. When he has down games,

(04:22):
it kind of stays down. And when he's hot, he's
as hot as there is in the NFL. So you know,
for them, to me, the biggest thing is getting Josh
Jacobs involved and making it about their running game first,
and then he's going to get some cleaner looks in
the passing game, and I think he'll get back on track.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, I wondered about being a little more aggressive on
first down instead of if you stop Josh Jacobs and
it's second in seven, you know, now I'm getting him
in an obvious passing situation. So I don't know, Matt
Lafleur changes this up a little bit, so you're not
as predictable or as conservative as they've been, no doubt.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
And as I say that about getting Josh Jacobs more involved,
the tendency sometimes is okay, just hand them the ball
in first down, and you have and you have to
do that. But oftentimes it's the classic, you know, getting
some run formations, make it look like run, go, play action,
make some first downs on first and second down. You know,
don't go run Ron, hey, hey, Jordan, go make third

(05:19):
and seven for us. You know, that's a hard rhythm
for a quarterback. So I think your point's well made.
And then when you when you do some of that
run action stuff, that play action stuff, you make some
first downs, that just simply gives you more attempts, and
that's when Josh Jacobs gets more involved.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
What's it mean to you when Dan Campbell says I'm
going to take over the play calling.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Uh, it's It's an interesting decision, it really is, particularly
for an offense that's been, you know, by a lot
of measuring sticks pretty good. I mean, they're they're top
five offense, and they've had some big games so far.
But we talked about it on the show the other night.
I've known Dan for a long time. He and I
were teammates with the Giants, and I love him to death.
He's a great friend. And one thing I know about

(06:04):
him is he's convicted. He's convicted in life, he's convicted
in football, and he knows exactly what he wants and
that's why they've had success in Detroit. He and Brad
Holmes got together and said, Hey, what's the vision for
this team?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
What kind of.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Players do we need? What do we want to do
on offense, defense, kicking game? And they've stuck through it,
through the thick and thin, and he trust his instincts,
he trusts his convictions, and clearly he didn't like the
feel of what was going on on offense. And I
give him credit because it's a bold move. There's an
old story though that my friend Norv Turner used to

(06:39):
tell and I say this with incredible respect for everybody involved,
but he was coaching for the Rams back in the eighties,
and the ramsaid Eric Dickerson. John Robinson was the head coach,
and they had a really good team. But they would
play the forty nine Ers, who they were incredible at
the time defensively, and the Niners would shut down the

(06:59):
running game. And then they'd play the Giants, and the Giants,
who are really good, shut down the running game. And
then they'd go play Atlanta and John Robinson would come
in and say, hey, you know, I'm gonna commit, I'm
gonna get.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Involved in this run game. I'm gonna take over this thing.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
And Atlanta wasn't very good at the time, and Dickerson
would rush for two hundred yards and then Robinson would
come back in on Monday and say, I got you
guys squared away.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Now, you know, let's get work, you know.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
And so I get a little nervous about that with
Detroit because Washington was depleted, they weren't very good on defense,
They're banged up, and Detroit goes in there and they're
like Detroit at its best, but now here comes Philly,
so it's gonna be a little bit different.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
So I.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Wonder going forward how it's all going to play out.
But again I admired Dan's conviction and Dan Dan gets
underappreciated as a football guy. People think of him as
this great speech maker and all of that. He's a
damn good football coach as smarter players I've ever been around,
So he knows what the heck he's doing on offense.
But he's changed the dynamic of the staff and so

(08:06):
as they go forward, he'll have more decisions to make.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yeah, but that's tough being an offensive coordinator because that's
a vote of no confidence when Dan goes, you know what,
I'm going to take over play calling. Yeah, again, it's tricky.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
But the flip side to that is, Okay, leave John
Morton in place and then micromanage it. You don't like
what you're getting, so you're in the meetings more and
you're micromanaging more.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Why don't we do this?

Speaker 5 (08:29):
And then during the game you're in the guy's ear
and all of a sudden he loses his rhythm as well.
So you know, it can go back and forth. That's
a delicate balance when you're doing it that way. So
Dan was bold like he always is, and said, I'm
taking over it. But we just got to watch that
thing going forward as they play better defenses.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Jason Garrett, NBC Football Night in America, and it'll be
the Lions that the Eagles kickoff at a twenty eastern
on Sunday night. Are you done with coaching? You know,
I love the job I'm in right now. I really
do a minute a minute have you Are you interested
in coaching?

Speaker 5 (09:07):
Well, let me answer it this way. I love the
job I'm in. I'm really fortunate. But I was really
fortunate to play for a long time and coach for
a long time. And I can say this to you
honestly that I've loved every part of it. I love
coaching football. I loved to be in a position coach,
a coordinator and a head coach. So you know, if
that opportunity presents itself in a way that that seems

(09:27):
like it's attractive, sure, I look at it.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
I can't go back to playing.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Uh, you know that that's not an option anymore. But
I love what I'm doing. I love every part of
the job. I have an NBC and I'm really fortunate.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
When's the last time a team contacted you.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
Uh, I don't know that anybody's ever contacted me. I've
talked to a lot of people in the business over
the last four years, but you know, nobody's ever contacted
me and said, I want you to be my head
coach or my offensive coordinator. But I've I've talked to
a lot of people about football since I've stopped coaching.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
But you're young, you're at that, You're young by coaching standards. Yeah. Again,
I love what I'm doing. I do well.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
I'm going to be in Philadelphia on Sunday night with
Lions and Eagles.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
You kidding me? Other than that, I.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Get the message. I get the message.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
I'm just putting a little pressure on you in the pocket,
that's all. I don't think you can scramble out of it. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
Yeah, the best ones climb the pocket and stand in there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
You get to see Jeremiah Love with Notre Dame. I
do is he now top fifteen pick in your opinion?

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Hard for me to know the draft right now, but
he is a top fifteen caliber player in my mind
in any year. He is so much fun to watch,
and I've gotten a chance to know him a little
bit over the last couple of years, and what a
fantastic young man and driven, be great and unselfish. You know,
he's got Jadarian Price, and you know, these guys encourage

(11:05):
each other. It's like this incredible tandem of running backs
that Notre Dame has. But you know, when you watch football,
then I always say this, the identity of a team,
the identity of a player, for me, can be defined
by the most expert person and the least expert person
watching the same thing and drawing the same conclusion. So

(11:25):
Vince Lombardi goes to practice and sees Jeremiah Love practice
and sees them play on Saturdays, as, wow, that's an
unbelievable football player. And mother Teresa, who's never seen football before,
she does the same thing. He says, who's number four?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
You know?

Speaker 5 (11:41):
And and and to me, I think it's I think
when you watch games and certain players just simply stand
out above the rest, You're like, wow, that guy's different.
And we have it in our game right now in
the NFL. I mean there's certain guys that are like,
oh my god, who is number one the Packers? He
just seems faster than everybody and you can go on

(12:03):
and on on that list. So I think Jeremiah Love
for me and college football is that guy. He stands out.
He's better than everybody else on the field.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
You were in Dallas, you got there, and I think
nineteen ninety two I did so. The herschel Walker trade
was nineteen eighty nine. Yes, yeah, what was this sense
when you got there of that trade and really the
building blocks for winning a couple of Super Bowls?

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Well, I think it was critical. I think everybody recognized
that at the time. And you know, not only did
they get all the picks, but they got the players.
Then they traded the players for more picks, and you know,
there would always be these articles about, Okay, you know,
what are the results of the of the herschel Walker trade.
And I can't remember off the top of my head,
but it was ended up being Russell Maryland and EMMITTT.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Smith and Tony Tolbert and.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
You go on and on and on about the guys
that were taken as a result of that trade. Who
are the cornerstone players on those championship teams? And you know,
so it really was the foundation of everything. And you know,
Jimmy used to say this that he said that, you know,
I had no real expertise over everybody else and evaluating players,

(13:12):
which I think he was. He was being modest because
I think he does. But he just had a lot
of picks and they picked all these guys and they
ended up being the building blocks of some amazing teams,
and so it was really significant. I do think people
recognized it at the time.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
You played the position, coach the position. But at what
point do you realize that you need to move on
from a quarterback?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:36):
I know the money factor is big in this, but
you know, I don't know what Jacksonville has with Trevor Lawrence.
I don't know what Miami has with Tua. I don't
know what Arizona has with Kyler. Now they're all getting paid,
but at some point there's diminishing returns there. So as
a coach, when do you know that this guy is

(13:59):
not going to give us maybe the best chance to win. Well,
it's a great question.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
I think it's a pertinent question for this time in
football because as you talk about those guys, we also
talk about Sam Darnel and Daniel Jones and some of
these other guys who are kicked to the curb by
their organizations, and now they're thriving somewhere else. So I think,
you know, teams are probably a little concerned about doing
that again and having their guy who they've invested so

(14:26):
much and go somewhere else and have success. To me,
as we all know, it's a cliche to say it,
football is the ultimate team sport. Nobody, nobody's fate is
more determined by that than the quarterback. So the quarterback
needs a supporting cast, he needs lineman, he needs playmakers,
he needs a runner, he needs a defense, he needs coaching,

(14:47):
all of that, and oftentimes these guys who get picked
high go to bad places where none of those things
are in place, and they don't know how to play yet,
and so you have a double whammy there and that
they're not and they're certainly not ready in this environment
that they're playing in. So one of the things that's
a factor for all these things is when they have

(15:08):
so much adversity and they're part of all the losing,
the question is can they ever survive in that place?
Do they need to go somewhere else to reinvent themselves?
And I think that's what happens to a lot of
these guys, if they stay there, even if the environment
gets better, they're too many scars and sometimes they need

(15:29):
to white you know, wipe the whiteboard clean and start anew.
So for all those guys that you're talking about, they're
not necessarily in great environments. In Miami, in Jacksonville, in Arizona.
The teams around them have not been that good. And
I've seen it happen with players who are the best
that ever walk at that position. Troy Aikman at the

(15:51):
end of his career, he probably was a better player
than he was when we're winning Super Bowls, right, but
the supporting casz was diminished. Look at you know, you
picked the guy Dan Marino, so many others who were elite, elite,
best of all time guys when the supporting cast got worse,
harder for them to have success. So if that's the

(16:11):
case for them, it certainly is the case for some
of these guys. I do think at some point you
have to use your football expertise and your gut to say, hey,
I'm sticking with them or I'm moving on. And oftentimes
that happens with a new coach.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Good to talk to you, safe travels to Philadelphia. Play nice. Yeah, yeah,
always enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
That's Jason Garrett Football Night in America. Yeah, just dawned
on me that he probably still wants to coach relatively
young maybe an opportunity. And you know, it dawned on me,
you know, with the Giants opening there, and I thought,
I wonder, you know, maybe he hasn't been contacted, but

(16:52):
you have other people who have been maybe contacted on
your behalf. I brought up Mill Belichick to the Giants.
Bill Belichick respond to that question right after this.

Subscribe, hit that thumbs up icon and comment away. I
mentioned this yesterday, just throwing out candidates. What if lane
Kiffin went to the Giants and coached Jackson Dart. Lane
Kiffin said, it's too cold there, so he's taking himself
out of the running if somebody was considering him, it's
a good answer. Yeah, it's too cold there. I don't

(18:00):
want to coach there. And then I threw out John Gruden.
Is John Gruden in play anywhere in the coaching carousel?
And then I threw out what about Bill Belichick? If
you want to get back into the NFL, you want
to set the all time victory record, and you're able
to go back to the team where you were a
defensive coordinator and maybe you close out your career there.

(18:22):
I threw that out there. Well, somebody did ask Bill
Belichick the question. Now I don't know what his answer is.
Marvin said, Hey, somebody asked Belichick about the Giants. Which
people are doing their job. No great revelation that I
brought up Belichick to the Giants. Let's guess what Bill
Belichick had to say. Now they play Wake Forest next.

(18:44):
I'm guessing his answer had to do with Wake Forest.
I would say there's a mention of or on to
Wake Forest. Let me see how long is his answer?
Thirty nine seconds? Hmmm, Now is that just one question?
Want to answer, Marvin?

Speaker 6 (19:02):
Oh, with Bill Belichick, there's a follow up? Okay, yes,
there's no way. Bill Belichick talked a row.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
So there are two questions in here and two answers. Correct. Okay, Todd,
you're Bill Belichick. How do you think he answered this question?

Speaker 7 (19:17):
Come on, guys, we're off to a rough start. I
gotta focus on one game at a time. This is
my job. I'm the head coach of the North Carolina
targ House. I'm gonna get into that nonsense. We got
we got Wake Forest coming up, and that's I'll take
questions about wake Forest.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Okay, it's a long answer for Bill Dylan? Is that
his answer to his answer? Pretty good?

Speaker 3 (19:38):
I'm just I don't know. I'm on to wake for us?

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Marvin? What do you think focused on Wake Force? Okay, Paul,
just focus on winning the next game. I'm gonna have
to ask my fiance, Oh whoa, Okay, here is Bill
Belichick growing out there? I'm sure sure with other NFL jobs,

(20:03):
what is your message to players recruits. I'm sure people
will ask me about that. Who want to come?

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Getting right for Wight Force, that's all I got.

Speaker 8 (20:11):
This week has the players, recruits, future Tommy. I've been
asked about it from time to time, but I say,
I've been done this real before. I'm focused on the
wait for us. That's it, and that's my commitment to
this team. And next week it'll be to our next

(20:32):
opponent and so forth. But ye know, I'm here to
do the best I can for this team.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Does he play duke after Wake? I don't know if
coach knows his schedule. I think that they have a
duke and then NC State.

Speaker 9 (20:43):
That's right, But that's such a coaching move to not
even mention the next opponent. You're so focused on Wake. Yeah,
I don't even know who you got. Everything's about Wake.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
If I'm the Giants, I do not bring Bill Belichick in.
I don't consider him now. Would I interview him, Yes,
I would, because I want him to give me information.
I mean, it's still one of the greatest minds in
football history. Let me hear what you have to say.
Do I want to hire him and everything that goes
along with this. No, I do not now five years

(21:20):
ago I would have Yeah, Diyl, do you think.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
He fares better with the Giants than he is currently
with UNC. No, they're going to be all bull eligible
and they've lost a couple of heartbreakers. I thought that
they would win eight games this year, and they almost
beat Virginia. They barely lose what to Cow last second.

(21:44):
So I mean they've done.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Okay, it's just when they played good opponents, they've been
blown out.

Speaker 9 (21:50):
Yeah, Pauline, don't you think deep down, as much as
he would love to coach in the NFL, he wants
to stick it to a lot of people who bailed
on him six seven, eight weeks ago. Like, I know,
UNC is not going to become a powerhouse, but if
he could get them the ten wins and sneak into
a playoff someday, vindication.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Yeah, but you're already one of the greatest coaches in
the history of sports. It feels like petty vindication. Like, hey,
I mean, you should be great at North Carolina. That's
why they brought you in. Like I can't go, Hey, man,
I'm really shocked you did. Okay, you're Bill Belichick. You

(22:33):
were professing this to be the thirty third team, as
if you're the next NFL team. You brought in Mike Lombardi,
you brought in a lot of these you know, high
priced guys. You should be good. It's not like, hey,
you know what, Bill Belichick, he can still coach. He
should be able to coach. Like that's the one thing

(22:55):
that I thought he would be able to do. I
didn't know how he would recruit. They got way too
many transfers, you know, guys in the portal. But next
year is what I want to see that. That's where
it's like with Dion, I said, you better get him
his first year because that next year he's going to
bring in some players with Travis Hunter and his son,

(23:16):
and then we saw that they were a good team.
Now his son and Travis Hunter go to the NFL
and we're starting to find out exactly what Colorado football.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Is all about.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Game day and big newon kickoff haven't been out there
in a while. Where are the celebrities going out there anymore?
Where where are all the celebrities going out there to
watch Deon coach?

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Yeah, Paulin.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Just to be fair to.

Speaker 9 (23:39):
Wake Forest football, as we always try to be on
this show. They're six and three and they're favored by
six and a half against North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Mm hm okay, well you go into the triad and
chances are you're going to come out with a.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Loss, right, Yeah, thank you to.

Speaker 7 (23:53):
Don't mess with the tryer.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Thank you to. And Todd's daughter goes to Wake Forest.
She is a junior.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 7 (24:00):
Okay, I know everybody's really curious.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
I wasn't. I just said that your daughter went there.
The Digs can be tough. They play after their competition
at what.

Speaker 7 (24:09):
Field hockey.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Golfing.

Speaker 9 (24:12):
Yes, Paul, you mentioned John Gruden as a candidate for
an NFL job, and I think I said, I don't
think he coaches the NFL. Again, there is no reporting
around this, but a lot of scuttle butt about Arkansas
football and John Gruden had no reporting. But they're piecing
things together. They're way down Arkansas right now. Take a
shot with you, right and if you look at what

(24:35):
Arkansas basketball did with cal Perry, there's a blueprint there.
They have money, they have investors.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
But you already had Eric Musselman, and Muscleman was every
bit the coach. John Caliperry is now he's not the
recruiter that John was at Kentucky. But Eric Musselman was
a great coach at Arkansas. And if I'm Arkansas, I
would go after John Gruden. Absolutely. Yeah. James in Jersey, Hi, James,

(25:02):
what's on your mind? Hey?

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Dan?

Speaker 10 (25:05):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yep?

Speaker 10 (25:08):
Hey Dan?

Speaker 2 (25:10):
You know what?

Speaker 10 (25:10):
How about put it Belichick to the Cleveland Browns? All right, listen,
I'm an I'm an old time Cleveland brown fan and
now I am disgusted on what's going on as far
as Cleveland Brown's concern.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Well, it feels like they'll move on from Kevin Stefanski.
You're not bringing Belichick back to Cleveland. There's no building
blocks there. Like if I'm Belichick and I'm like, okay,
first of all, who's who's my quarterback? Well, you don't
have one, and maybe you're gonna have Deshaun Watson. I

(25:47):
don't think you want to walk into that situation. I
think it was Dan Orlovsky who said maybe Stefanski to
the Giants. I'm like, okay, I mean Dan's connected, but
that one kind of went okay because he's probably gonna

(26:07):
lose his job in Cleveland. Yeah, Paul, you know.

Speaker 9 (26:10):
Your franchise is bad when if you fire a coach
he gets scooped up by other franchises. That's basically saying
it's not Kevin Stefanski's fault that he was the coach
of the Browns. The Browns are the reason they lost
as a concept.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Phil, Phil and Iowa, Hey, Phil, five to six and
a Hungary one thirty two.

Speaker 11 (26:31):
My daughter Daisy turns eleven today and I was wondering
if she could get a birthday shout Outburg. That's awesome, guys,
you gotta love a Secondly, I got a part of
the base bet for any of you that won it.

(26:53):
I got the Chiefs coming back to win the AFC West.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Let me know any but you want a piece of that.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
See, I wouldn't because the odds are in their favor
that they're going to They have the best odds of
any team in the AFC to go to the Super Bowl.
So no takers here, Phil, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Pull.

Speaker 9 (27:12):
The Broncos are eight and two, They've won seven in
a row. They are the least believed in eight and
two team of all time. And I'm not against them.
I'm just saying, if you had to bet on the
Broncos or Chiefs right now to win that division.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
Well, wait, what's the Colts record? Eight and two? Okay,
who do you have more trust in? The Broncos of
the Colts? How about who do you have less trust?

Speaker 9 (27:33):
The less faith game?

Speaker 2 (27:34):
The less trust game? Because Denver went to the playoffs
last year.

Speaker 9 (27:40):
The Colts have outscored their opponents by one hundred and
fifteen points. This year, the Broncos have outscored their opponents
by sixty two. If you want to factor that.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
In, I'm just saying, who do you have more faith
in to go further this year? The Colts of the Broncos, Todd,
I kind of have to exclude you from but.

Speaker 7 (27:56):
Bias aside because of Denver's defense being so great, if
they can figure out the offense a little more, and
they stole the game from us Week two and India anyway,
so Denver really won that game.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
They stole it from us.

Speaker 7 (28:07):
Yeah, that's the Broncos, the Colts. The referee stole the
leverage thing we had that game. You said, yeah, the Broncos. Okay,
they stole the game from us. The Denver Broncos thought,
that's why I would lean towards Denver.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
It was them. It was them when Russell was there,
it wasn't us.

Speaker 7 (28:22):
Initially it was us, and then I saw things. I'm folded.

Speaker 9 (28:25):
I'm like, let's ride, yeah, Paul Todd quickly before we
move on. Do you believe that the refs stole that
game from the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
I believe that it was a very weak call.

Speaker 7 (28:33):
I don't think it was done in an underhanded way
because they wanted to make sure the Colts won.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
I'm being up, but you keep saying stolen, so that
sounds like something.

Speaker 7 (28:39):
Because sixty yard field goal missed, game over, Broncos win. Oh,
let's throw this late leverage bull flag and then all
of a sudden, forty five yard figure go good Cults
getting okay?

Speaker 2 (28:50):
Do you believe in the Colts at eight and two?
Do you believe in the Colts more than the Broncos?
You know, the Broncos in that division, you know the
cold division is not very good. I guess I'm going
to believe in the Broncos because I saw it last
year and you you still have Sean Payton, bo Nix

(29:13):
has taking a step back, but the Colts offense when
JJ Watt said, that's the best team I've seen this year.
When that offense is gone, that's the best team that
I've seen this year. And they added Sauce Gardner. Now,
their defense isn't anywhere near what the Broncos is, certainly
the pass rush, but their offense is a whole lot
better than the Broncos. That running game, you got a

(29:37):
great tight end. I'd probably I'd lean towards the Colts
potential because that offense is worrisome in Denver.

Speaker 6 (29:47):
Yes, Marvin, what if I add the Patriots to that?
They're eight and two and this is their first time
at the spot.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Okay, how about we take a break and put that
as a poll.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Quick.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
I gotta let that one breathe a little bit. Are
you sold on the Patriot? Sold on the Colts? Sold
on the Broncos. We'll have that for you and more
phone calls coming up after this. Fox Sports Radio has
the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all
of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within

(30:16):
the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. If I
said Patriots, Colts, Broncos, which team do you think goes
further this year? Which team do you have more confidence
in Patriots. Get a new head coach, second year quarterback,
and they're not afraid of anybody, and the way they

(30:38):
played it might be the best team in the AFC.
Denver's eight and two. Not a good offense, great defense.
The Colts great offense. They just added Sauce Gardner. They're
eight and two. The team that you think will go further. Now,
we're going to put this up as a poll question, Dylan, Yes,
we are, okay, Man, Well, I'll start with you, Marvin.

Speaker 6 (31:05):
I'm gonna go with the Denver Broncos. They were in
the playoffs last year, so you had a little bit
of experience in the postseason. And I like Sean Payton.
I trust him, so I'm gonna go with the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Dylan.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
The Broncos are lacking little identity for me. You know,
both the Colts and the Patriots have MVP Calimber candidates
on there. I'm probably gonna go with the Colts. I
think Drake may is still a little green all right.

Speaker 7 (31:27):
Todd, hoping that they get their offense figured out. I
got to lean towards Denver just because that defense.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Is so tough, But do you believe it I do.

Speaker 7 (31:34):
Believe the Broncos are at least a little better than
India knowing.

Speaker 9 (31:36):
One, Okay, Paul, I think the Colts are better that
running game in December and January, and I think they're
gonna get home field advantage. They've got the Texans twice
and the Jaguars twice in the back half of the season.
They could pile up some wins and get home field
and that could be the deaf.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Well, what's the Colts schedule? That is Colts? Oh, oh, Denver?
Then check it, okay, because you still they'll have another
game with Kansas City and the Chargers. I'm going to guess,
is that right to.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
Yes, they got to play the Chargers Chiefs twice, and
they got to play the Chargers in Denver?

Speaker 9 (32:09):
Okay, Yeah, yeah, Denver Chiefs, Commanders, Raiders, Packers, Jaguars, Chiefs,
Chargers Okay.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
A couple of toughies. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Got some tough sledding there and maybe maybe three losses there.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
And you know, the Patriots aren't afraid of the Bills.
What's the what's new England schedule?

Speaker 9 (32:35):
The Patriots host the Jets at Cincinnati, hosts the Giants
bye week, Buffalo Baltimore Jets again, Miami.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Yeah, dang, they could win twelve games and then it
comes down to all right, home field advantage. Who's going
to have it throughout the playoffs? But it Patriots could
win thirteen games.

Speaker 6 (33:04):
Yes, mart, I think if you're a general NFL fan,
you would love this because there's new blood. It's not
going to be Ravens against the Chiefs or Chiefs against
the Bills. Can anybody start Patrick Mahomes? But if the
Chiefs get in, would just by the skin to their
teeth and then I'm going to the super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Huh again, I know, I know, well, I don't know.
When we get to the point where you go, all right,
I give up, I have to applaud you like people
don't like the Chiefs, but you don't like the Chiefs
because the Chiefs are always there. Or you might not
like Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift, you might not like
the antics of Patrick Mahomes sometimes, but at some point

(33:45):
you have to acknowledge they're great. That that's a modern
day dynasty.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
You know, you just.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
That's who they are, that's what they're going to be.
You know, Golden State was like that when they didn't
have KD. When they had KD and they didn't have KD,
you still have to acknowledge, you know, the Patriots, you know,
two different times in Tom Brady's career, you had to
go what they're doing is pretty incredible, Yes, Dyling, the.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Chiefs continuing to win is much less offensive to me
than the Patriots having a good quarterback again and just
going right back to where we were for all those
years and it was really annoying.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
So it's way too soon for the Patriots to pick
up a good quarterback. You'd prefer like ten years before
they found a really good quarterback.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Yeah, at least give us like a little bit of
breathing room. Now we're just like, I'm looking at him, like, is.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
This really happening again?

Speaker 4 (34:35):
The Patriots are probably going to rip off another Super
Bowl win with Drake May.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
But they had Mac Jones. Mac Jones won ten games,
he was a Pro Bowl quarterback.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
He was a Pro Bowl quarterback.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
And then all of a sudden, you know, he got
sent to Jacksonville. That's mean. And now you see what
he's doing with the Niners. He's going to be the
next quarterback. It feels like who is the Sam Darnold,
the Danny Dimes that, Hey, you got another chance here,
Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
He's almost following Sam Darnold exactly. He was like, he
went to Jacksonville, Darnold went to with Panthers, and then
they went to San fran.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, let's see, how about we get a couple of
phone calls. Ryan in Ohio, Hi, Ryan, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 12 (35:17):
Heydnn second time caller here, Cleveland Brown fan checking in.
Mary Kay reported that Kevin's job at safe actually, which
makes me think it has one fingerprints all over this
mess just proves again why owners need to keep their
hands out of the football decision. I would say we're
pretty cursed, but the Browns will be the death of me.
And the top it off, Jan Gabriel is being nominated

(35:39):
for Offensive Rookie of the Week after that Jets game,
which makes no sense at all. If that's the standard,
then a we must have some terrible offensive rookies in
the NFL right now. So I'd say it's time to
see what Sanders can do and have a good day.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Dan. Kevin Stefanski doesn't even refer to Shudoor Sanders my
name it it's it's like the coach doesn't want to
play shad Or Sanders. Jimmy Haslam, I think is on
record is saying that we need to see, you know,
what these quarterbacks can do. And that's all I said

(36:12):
to start this year. You have to eventually let these
two quarterbacks play because you're not winning anything. And this
is we got Flacco. Let them watch him for a
month and then let them take over. And that's kind
of what happened here. Now. I want to see if
Shadoor Sanders can play, then great, put him in. Let's
see what he can do. I don't think the schedules

(36:34):
that difficult from the standpoint of they could get blown out.
You know, I think they can be competitive in some
of these games coming up. Let Shadoor Sanders play, then
we can finally answer that question.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
You know.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
It's like Bronnie James, well, put him in, let's see
if he can play.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Well.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Coaches know when you go to practice, they realize that
if somebody can play and they can't play or they
need time. Ronnie James is just on the roster. When
his father retires, he's probably not going to be on
the roster. I did wonder about this since we saw
post Malone when we were out in Vegas for the

(37:13):
Super Bowl and didn't he give us white Iverson? He did? Yeah,
what about maybe black Austin Reeves. Maybe could he do
a remix?

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Could he do a Black Austin Reeves tribute song?

Speaker 6 (37:25):
Marvin, I think somebody black has to do the Black
Austin Reeves song. Oh they do because post alone saying
he's white Iverson. Oh okay, because he's White's right?

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Why? Why?

Speaker 3 (37:38):
All right?

Speaker 2 (37:39):
So no Black Austin Reeves, Black Reeves, Black Reeves. You
know one of the best nicknames ar fifteen. Yeh yeah,
AK forty seven. Yeah, that was Andre Kirolinko. I believe
AK forty Now does he still get a Hall pass
from his wife? His NBA career ended, remember that story? Yeah,

(38:02):
he got a he got a one Hall pass a
NBA season, But I don't know if after this, you know,
his career is over. Does he still get a Hall pass?

Speaker 3 (38:12):
There? Yes?

Speaker 6 (38:12):
Mark, I think he went to go play overseas, like
you know what, I'm going to be playing Spain for
a while, in Italy for a while, the G League.

Speaker 7 (38:21):
Yes, I respect the honesty, but why would you put
something like out there publicly. I don't understand what the
positive is of sharing that with.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
The world, given all the things that you share with
the world. Fair enough, that's saying something. Yes, Paul, Yeah, this.

Speaker 9 (38:34):
Was an ESPN dot com article. It wasn't on some
random website. He he talked about that, and the wife
talked about that.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Yeah, how does that topic come up?

Speaker 9 (38:47):
I could see maybe I should. I could see the
wife of an NBA player saying to herself, I see
the landscape of what I of players before. Maybe I
should get ahead of this and talk to my husband
and say, hey, I'm just throwing that out there. Maybe
she sees saw the landscape and said I'd rather be
in control of this situation than a victim.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
Of this situation.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
But I wonder if it's more likely or less likely
to happen, because now she's saying, you got a hall
pass here, and then does.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
He I don't know.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
It almost feels like if she doesn't say anything, then
maybe something happens. But then when you say, hey, all right,
you got a hall pass. One hall pass?

Speaker 6 (39:30):
Yes, Marvin, I think she saw when he's like, man,
you just play so well when you play the Clippers.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
And the Lakers. Oh, la working, la work and you
stay yeah, doubleheader? Yeah, I mean like that, Yes, Tom.

Speaker 7 (39:45):
So somehow it's not as fun to sneak around if
you're allowed to.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
You're not getting away with that anything. She may say,
I could, so why bother? Yeah, I don't know. I
don't I throw that out there.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Who knows.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
It's like legalized weed, you know, it's like all the
fund's gotten legalized gambling exactly.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah. And why aren't people as incredulous with the baseball
gambling and as opposed to the NBA. These guys were
actually they have video of them doing this, manipulating a game,
and everybody is up and arm. Oh my god, the
NBA baseball. These two guys were doing it right in

(40:25):
front of you. And they have a paper trail where
these guys were making money. And there's a few hundred
thousand dollars.

Speaker 7 (40:31):
Yes, Ton, And not only was it a pitch, I
was just a bit outside. We just threw it like
right into the ground. It barely got passed the mound.

Speaker 9 (40:37):
Yeah, Pauline, if we had a video of an NBA
player at the free throw line Bongin went off the
shot clock, it would be the biggest story in the world.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Yeah, well, it's how NBA players are viewed in their
sport and how baseball is viewed because even on the
mother ship, they're not really covering baseball. Even something like this.
It feels like anything that's gambling and it's negative. And
then they'll do the bottom line and has to do

(41:05):
with gambling. Amazing, amazing final hour on this Wednesday. After

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
