Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hope you had a great weekend. Everybody, It's our two
on this Monday, more of your phone calls, best and
worst of the weekend. We'll talk to the Hall of
Fame coach Bill Kauer stops by in about twenty minutes
from now. Flacco around and find out the T shirt
will be available until Wednesday. Joe didn't live up to
his end of the bargain by losing to the Jets,
(00:26):
but we'll keep it up there at Danpatrick dot com.
Stat of Today brought to you by Panini America, the
official trading cards of the program. Good morning. If you're
watching on Peacock, our streaming service, download the app. If
you haven't done so, we will update our poll results.
We got baseball tonight, Game three series tied at a
game apiece, and you also have the commanders at the
(00:48):
Chiefs and right now, Patrick Mahomes is your leader for MVP.
According to DraftKings. It's kind of surprising that it feels
like Patrick Mahomes might win the MVP by just being
Patrick Mahomes, that he doesn't have to be you know,
forty forty five, fifty touchdown passes. He just has to
(01:11):
be Patrick Mahomes and that means you know, two or
three or four times, Oh my god, did you see
that play? And then they end up winning a game
in the final two minutes, and that might be enough.
Josh Allen. He beats you by by land and by
air and doing it at a record setting pace and
scoring touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yes, Marvin DP. The Chiefs are four and three. I
know it'd be different if they had the Colts record,
then I could see. Man, you know what, he's just
consistent and they're really good. They're only one game over
five hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah. Well, he's getting his weapons back, so it might
be well it kind of you know, held serve here
and kept them in the race here, Like I don't.
I'm surprised, but this according to DraftKings, Mahomes plus one
twenty five, Josh Allen second at plus three point fifty.
Then it's Drake may Baker Mayfield and Matthew Stafford are tied.
(02:06):
Jared Goff, Then it's Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor. Yeah, PAULI.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Matthew Stafford has seventeen touchdowns and two picks. Mahomes has
fourteen touchdowns and two picks. Mahomes is eleventh in the
league in quarterback rating. I mean, he's having a nice
year for him, but it's not even special for him.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, people were trying to shoehorn Dak Prescott in that
MVP conversation because his numbers were really good until he
faced Denver yesterday. But you know, maybe Dallas makes a
move here. Trade deadline is I think next week, could
you get Max Crosby, Could you get Trey Hendrickson. Can
you swing for the fences and get Miles Garrett because
(02:47):
Jerry Jones is finally admitted. You know, maybe this defense
isn't that good. The Ravens defense is terrible, and they
shut down the Chicago Bears, certainly after the first quarter.
That's one of those games where things that make you go, hmm, okay,
you're favored by six and a half. Okay, that means
Lamar Jackson's playing, until we found out Lamar Jackson wasn't playing.
(03:11):
Then the line went down to one and a half,
and then they still ended up rubbing up the Bears.
The home office is not going to be pleased with
the Baltimore Ravens. Mike Floria was written about this on
Pro Football Talk, where they might take away draft picks.
Somebody could be fined, yes, Pauling.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
According to NFL dot Com, on Friday, right after practice,
every NFL team lists the designation of their players full participant,
limited participant, out exec. He was listed on Friday as
full participant in practice, which supported that six and a
half line, then they changed it on Saturday to limited participant.
(03:52):
Jim John Harbaugh said, it was an honest mistake.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
You can still we've all made honest mistakes. You still
got to pay the price for it. And it might
be an honest mistake. But the see this comes down
to the information here. This is about gambling. This is
about making sure that everybody knows who's playing not playing,
and you know you're going to bet accordingly, set your line,
betting line accordingly, and if Lamar Jackson's playing and you're
(04:19):
at home in a must must, must win situation, that's
why I said, man, they're favored by six and a half.
And I said, what do they know? Well, did they
know that Lamar was going to play? Did they think
he was going to play? And the answer is yes,
Then all of a sudden he's not playing now I
don't think you do gamesmanship here like the Bears. Man,
(04:40):
we're we're not going to tell them what's going on. Okay,
I'm sure the Bears are going, well, Lamar's playing, he's
Are you changing your defensive strategy philosophy? I think you
could probably do that on the fly and say let's
go back to what we normally do against Lamar Jackson
or what other teams do against Lamar Jackson. But that's
(05:02):
where the home office cannot be thrilled at what happened
in Baltimore. All right, Seaton, update the pole results or
give us what we have for hour one, then what
we're going to go with at hour two. By the way,
next Tuesday at four eastern NFL trade deadline. Yeah, we
got up there right now.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
The best college football job opening right now, LSU, Penn State,
Florida other right now. LSU has about fifty eight percent
of that vote, followed by Penn State of Florida. Not
even really close for Penn State in Florida.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Man, you start to look at these payouts, James Franklin
fifty million, Brian Kelly fifty four million, Jimbo Fisher, I
mean it's become commonplace. And that's why I would not
give anybody ten years five at the most. We're in
it together. I'm going to pay you handsomely the first
(05:56):
three years, and then after that we can renegotiate because
it'll be a win win. But if you do ten years,
nine years, eight years, oh my god, you're locked in.
I mean, I get the feeling. USC might have moved
on from Lincoln Riley had he not had this long contract.
(06:16):
But it feels like the boosters everybody is lacking patience, everybody,
and it's you're not waiting, you don't get that opportunity.
And Brian Kelly's a good coach, good coach. James Franklin
is a good coach, but this is a different world
(06:38):
in college football, nil transfer portal. You're driving coaches who were,
you know, lifers out of this and you got to
keep up with the times. And that's the hard part here,
keeping up with the times and making sure it's like
Dabo Sweening, that scrap book is really impressive. It's at Clemson.
(07:02):
But if I'm a booster or alumni, I'm like, Okay,
we paid you, Now what do we get out out
of this program? This ain't about yesterday. This is about
today and tomorrow, and that's where it's, you know, try
to navigate this. And everybody wants to bring Nick Saban back.
He'd be crazy to come back. Got a good life,
(07:26):
He's getting Hall of Fame, He's one of the greatest
coaches of all time. Nothing to prove. You don't have
to go back to the NFL and coach the Browns
and he's getting paid. The name that I would keep
an eye on is John Gruden. John has certainly tried.
(07:47):
He's had people have done some pr for him to
try to get his name out there. I do think
that he will be coaching next year somewhere. He has
talked about the SEC. Does he go back into you know,
you've never been a college head coach, But is that
what he would want to do? Does he have any
other opportunities. I always felt that he had a college
(08:10):
personality and that demeanor in relatable. But man, it's different.
What's pull question for the second hour Seaton? Which of
those jobs would you want? By the way, I would
say LSU because I don't think Les Miles and ed
Orgeron are great coaches, but they won national titles. There
(08:35):
there's so much talent there. There is so much talent available.
It's still an incredible place to play, that atmosphere, and
I would say LSU, What why LSU over Florida. I
just feel like LSU feels bigger. It's a tick above.
(08:57):
Florida has made some bad hires and they haven't had
the talent. LSU still has talent, But I would say
LSU they feel bigger than Florida does.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Yes, Marv, that's crazy because Florida's had some instances where
they were Alabama before Alabama, the Urban Meyer years, they
were the most dominant program in college football.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
But that's a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
That's fifteen years ago.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
That's a long time ago. In today's college football world.
What have they done in the last five years?
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Made bad higher?
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yes, yes, Pauli.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
But LSU football is the biggest show in that state,
including the Saints. No problem. If you're in Florida, you're
competing with the rest of the state pro college three
college programs battling there.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
What do you think the line is tonight with the
Commanders and the Chiefs. If you said Commanders getting ten
and a half, you would be correct. I'm going to
guess Jade Daniels is not playing in that game. The
over unders forty eight and a half, so we have
some Marcus Mariota come on down. So ten and a
(10:09):
half at the Chiefs tonight, Chris and Syracuse leads us
off this hour best and worst of the weekend.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
Hi, Chris Hey, thanks as always, Dan, Hey, I got
a couple worse for you in a comment. Yeah, worse
to Bill Belich that coming up a couple inches shy
of what.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
Would have been.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
And Ry Win and George Pickens as always, had some
really nice catches yesterday, but after every one of them,
he had to have his little mini celebration. Not a
good look when your team is getting orange crushed.
Speaker 8 (10:37):
And Dan, you were.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
Talking about Jonathan Taylor for MVP, and then Polly brought
up Miles Garrett. You know, Miles s. Garrett got five
sacks yesterday. But it seems like like with a running back,
no matter what a defensive lineman does, there's no ways
going to be MVP. And I mean Polly's guy, Allan
Page was a long time ago.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, they have the defensive player of the year. Therefore
it kind of takes them out of the running flour MVP.
Now there have been some defensive but you know, Lawrence Taylor,
there have been guys who were that great, that dominant,
but it feels like those days are over unless you
get twenty five sacks, like you got to give the
(11:14):
voters a number where you go. I can't ignore that
because Jonathan Taylor, he can get two thousand yards. We've
seen running backs get that and not win the MVP recently.
If he gets to thirty touchdowns, now you got their attention.
You got to give them something that they go. I
can't ignore that. And right now Jonathan Taylor has fourteen touchdowns.
(11:37):
Mike and Wisconsin. Hi, Mike, thanks for holding what's on
your mind today?
Speaker 9 (11:41):
Hey?
Speaker 10 (11:41):
What up?
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Fellas?
Speaker 9 (11:43):
I got a worse than two best my worst, Listen,
there's a reason the Steelers stopped wearing those uniforms in
nineteen thirty three. Those are horrendous. My best Luke Fickel
and the Badgers dropping seven on Oregon and only losing
by fourteen. You can put that in the moral victory column.
My other best Jordan Love throwing for three sixty twenty
(12:04):
street completions, owning Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. And how
about all those go peck go chants in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Let's go. But Aaron Rodgers had to go with a
silent count because the Packers were making so much noise.
That fan base travels and Pittsburgh that's a great fan
base too. Yes, Marvin, there's a few teams.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
There's a few fan bases where, no matter where, they
never have a true road game. Yeah, the Cowboys, the
forty nine Ers, the Steelers, the Packers, maybe somebody else,
but they're never really a true road game for them.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
James in Virginia, Hi, James, Oh, thank you taking.
Speaker 8 (12:45):
My call brother. Happy Monday, DP dan. That salute the Commanders,
man big time, all the time, every time a Super Bowl,
Super Bowl preview tonight, DPVI you tonight.
Speaker 10 (12:56):
Man.
Speaker 8 (12:56):
Let's got Washington. It's gonna be a tough ass man.
But I'm calling that about college football. Man. I love
the interview at Staples, but I got to disagree with
my man. A two lost team is going to have
a tough time this year getting into the college football playoff.
Seventeen out of the top twenty five are either undefeated
or one loss. You got teams like UVA, Georgia Tech,
(13:18):
Miami might not even play for the ACC Championship. If
those teams he win it, I think you want to
look at Alabama as definitely a title contender. And I'm
really liking what I see in Old Miss Man. I
think Kipping's told stay put and I say your name
to look out for. Can Chip Kelly find his way
back into head coaching. I know he's stepped away from
UCLA and it's in the NFL, Man, but that guy
(13:39):
was a great coach at Oregon back in the day.
I take it off the air, but I can't wait
for these last weeks the college football. Y'all have a
great day, man, Salute the commanders.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Thank you, James. Good luck tonight. Yeah, I don't see
Chip Kelly getting back into being a head coach. Hadn't
gone well in Vegas offensive coordinator, but I don't see
that happening. I do think that Brian Kelly is going
to coach again. The question is would he take one
of these jobs that we would consider secondary jobs that
(14:07):
you know, a Virginia Tech if Tulane is open. You know,
I can't see him doing James Madison maybe, but I
think he's going to coach again. He's only sixty four.
I could see him doing that. I was watching the
North Carolina game against Virginia. I did not like the
play I did not like the play call, and they
(14:27):
came up inches short from winning that game. Man, they
needed that. And that's why when the Hulu documentary went
away and I go, no, this is when you want
a documentary. This is when it's messy. That's what you want.
You want to have a good documentary, Like I don't
want rainbows and unicorns Valentine's cards. I mean I want
(14:53):
a mess Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
What about Brian Kelly wants to Bill Belichick steps away
from North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Oh, I don't know.
Speaker 8 (15:01):
You want to do that again.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I don't know if they would want to do that. Well,
he can keep his accent though, right he could. You know,
from Louisiana to North Carolina, I don't know how much different.
And I'm gonna hear from Membrady in North Carolina, we
got a different accent.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yes, I really wanted to see UNC win that and
maybe Belichick win a couple in a row to see
how that's covered by the national media that has declared
him gone yes.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Yes, he's gonna get to the middle of Brian Kelly's
going to get to the middle of Pennsylvania and say,
wait till yin's see how good this team looks like,
just trying to search for any like regionalism from Pennsylvania.
Yins aren't gonna believe how great this team is gonna be.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I haven't even won all of my games. Is He
had that social media post with one of his recruits
that they have been dancing who didn't go to LSU.
We had the the accent at the basketball game.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
It's a tough start, Yeah, tough to rebound from some
of those things.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Unfortunately, Yeah, yep, yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Pool UCLA is open for him. Hey, bro, it's great
to be out here, to be your coach stove for
the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Is so pitted.
Speaker 10 (16:21):
Stop.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Let's take a break. It's clean up our ract. Bill

Coming Away Baseball coming up tonight, Game three in Los Angeles.
You also have the Commanders in Kansas City. My goal
is to not upset Coach Kauer today. He's nice enough
to spend time with us, and it feels like every
time I have him on right at the end of
the interview, I somehow say something that upsets you. Good morning, coach.
Speaker 10 (17:35):
Good morning Dan. I think it's a realistic goal that
you have for this morning. Thank you for sharing that
with me.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
You get upset when you watch games.
Speaker 10 (17:47):
I don't get upset. I get disappointed when I see
bad calls. I get disappointed when I see irresponsible decisions,
but I don't get upset. I got upset when I
was coaching, though, Yeah I did get upset.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Did you ever have an official say my bad, I
miss that. I'm sorry.
Speaker 10 (18:11):
Well no, I mean I would stand beside him and
I would say, I know you can't look up there,
but trust me, you will be downgraded if you don't
change this call. So I tried to lay out the
circumstances and maybe the consequences of them not changing the call.
But we have the expedited reviews now. But even to that,
(18:33):
to some extent, I think last night he was a
prime example. I think it was another great weekend for
the officiating.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Okay, how upset would you be if you were still
coaching the Steelers after that performance by the defense last night?
Speaker 10 (18:48):
Well, I mean, listen, I think there was some pivotal
moments in there. I think it was a very good
first half. I mean, you go into a game, you
go into halftime, you're up sixteen to seven, You get
the ball coming out to second half, you got a
quarterback who's very good with cadence, gets them to jump
off side, takes a shot down the field and it's
not even called. I thought that was a very pivotal
(19:09):
point in the game. Because you always talk about the
last two minutes in the first last four first four
coming out, and that was a chance. You know, if
it's third down and three, it's a different play call
third down and three, and it's you have midfield, maybe
even go for it on fourth down. And then you
turn around and you the very next to the series,
you get pressure on Jordan Love. He throws a ball,
(19:30):
it's up for grabs, I mean, and it turns into
a eighty yard or seventy yard reception that leads to
a touchdown. So I think it's kind of spiraled out
of hand at that point. But that was a very
pivotal time in the game. So I don't think you
got to be careful by looking and describing the whole
game saying the defense was this, the defense was that
(19:52):
there was a few plays there, because I saw a
first half where they got after him pretty good, and
I mean green Bay held them to seven points. So
I don't think I think i'd be very careful at
this point of trying to overanalyze something.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
If you're the Browns, why would you hold onto Miles
Garrett and maybe not trade him and realize, let's get
some first round picks, and you know, we got to
figure this out. We got to restart.
Speaker 10 (20:20):
He's a generational player. Dan, You know, I don't think
he's trade generational players. And you know that that's a
total total start over. We've seen a lot of teams
rebound and come back. This is a good defense, this
is a offense that's still trying to find its way
with a young quarterback. And you know, again, I think
(20:41):
you're looking at the National Football League. They're still at
a point with what there there are still only three
games out of first place. So I mean, so I
think again the whole getting rid of people and are
trying to buy people. And I think if you're close
to go get someone, But I think if you're going to,
you know, take a player off your team, it's not
a great message to send. And the rest of the
(21:01):
players on your team, are you giving up on this season?
And now I expect them to go out there the
second half of this season to build something and maybe
take into the next year. I think there's a lot
to be said for that. So I don't think you
get rid of generational players.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
What do you do if you're the Cowboys where you
know you have a really good offense, but you're missing
that pass rusher that you traded the Green Bay.
Speaker 10 (21:24):
Right, and you have some draft equity there moving forward,
But to take advantage of this time right now, I
think at least making some attempt to upgrade that defense,
because you're right, they have too much of a special offense.
You don't know what's gonna happen with George Pickens at
the end of the year where he's at you, he's
gonna be up for a contract. So I think you
(21:46):
try to go out and see what you see, what's
out there. You do have some draft equity to work with,
maybe acquire somebody, But there's a lot of issues they
have on the defensive side of the ball. Obviously getting
a pass rusher. It starts right there if you had
some injuries in the second. But I think it's still
in a hunt right now. When you're looking at the
Dallas Cowboys, you're still right there. I would actually try
(22:07):
to upgrade that defense.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
What did you make of the Cowboy or the Steelers
uniforms last night?
Speaker 10 (22:13):
I don't like them at all. I think it's I
mean throwback.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
I don't know would you have objected to that, would
you have made an executive did you have veto power
on anything?
Speaker 10 (22:25):
Like? Are you trying to get me upset. I see
where you're going down. I see where you're going with this.
You are wed, we're talking good football. You were right
into the uniform. You said you're going to try. You
said you're going to try it.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
I did try. I failed. Coach, I failed.
Speaker 10 (22:43):
Okay, okay, can you vetel.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Those uniforms if you were the head coach?
Speaker 10 (22:48):
I I don't know if I could, I would make
every attempt to do something. I would not try to
upset anybody, but I'll let them know that is not
my favorite uniform, particularly on that particular night the Green
Bay Packers. And I know maybe that decision was made beforehand,
maybe or maybe not. But boy, we could change it
if you had to. Really can't we? I mean, I
(23:09):
don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
It looked like they had KACKI pants on. Coach.
Speaker 10 (23:13):
Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. The top wasn't much better.
It was not much better.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
That was That was rough. We're talking to the Hall
of Fame coach Bill Kawer once again. I'm trying not
to upset him. Why can't it running back win?
Speaker 7 (23:27):
MVP?
Speaker 10 (23:28):
Well asaid glad you brought that up, and I agree
with you. I mean, if you go back Historically, the
last three running backs to win national MVPs have been
Marshall Falk, Ladanian, Tomlinson and Sewn Alexander, and all three
of them after eight games had a total fourteen touchdowns,
(23:49):
which is saint path. Jonathan Taylor is on and Jonathan
Taylor to me, with a football team that I think
is the best in football right now. You look what
they can do on offense with him, Daniel Jones is
playing at a very high level. Their defense you can
talk of being their firredon takeaways, our top five and
defensive scoring. Louie and a Rumo I think has been
(24:11):
one of the best offseason acquisitions. I think in the
National Football League. I would put him on the defensive side.
I'd put Josh McDaniel on the offensive side with what
he's done with Drake May and Mike Rabel. So I
don't think there's I think there's a legitimate argument. We
keep talking about the quarterbacks, and I know that the
quarterbacks are this, but that football team, the heartbeat and
the soul of that team is Jonathan Taylor, and that
(24:32):
being the Indianapolis Colts, who had the best record in football.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Yeah, that's what I said. You got fourteen touchdowns, he's
on paced for eighteen hundred yards. Yeah, but he would
have to do even have to surpass Sean Alexander touchdown
total before I think the voters would notice because two
thousand yards we've seen that, and they give you that
cop out Ofward the Offensive Player of the year.
Speaker 10 (24:56):
I don't disagree with you, but that football team to me, again,
not take nothing away from Daniel Jones, and he's been great,
but you take Jonathan Taylor off that team, it's not
the same offense. And I don't know if you could
say that about other quarterbacks because to me, it's been
about the quarterbacks. I think the running back has supplemented
(25:16):
that and it has been a complimentary part of that
with the quarterbacks where it is Patrick Mahlomes, Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson, because they also bring an element of rushing
to that. But you look at this football team, to me,
Daniel Jones compliments Jonathan Taylor, not the other way around.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yeah, I agree. What was the highlight of your NFL career.
Speaker 10 (25:37):
Winning a Super Bowl in my fourteenth year?
Speaker 2 (25:39):
No, as a player, I have many of them.
Speaker 10 (25:44):
Okay, so I blocked a punt against the New York
Giants in nineteen eighty three. You're trying to get me upset.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
I'm asking you to open your scrap books.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
Okay, I am.
Speaker 10 (25:59):
Your career in the Super Bowl. No, you're playing career. Okay.
I was a specialties player and I did play for
five years. I did block upon against Ali Haji Sheik
in the New York Giants at the same time. I
think Bill Belichick was on that staff. So so I
did block a punt protuchdown. It was in week three.
It was I was at the Philadelphiagles. They were playing
(26:19):
the New York Giants en Giants Stadium. So I I
guess that would be my career highlight a block punt.
I actually looked this up. I was trying to see
I can find it, and I actually found it. You
have to dig deep into the archives of the internet
to find us. But I did block an Ali Haji
Sheik who was in because of a hurt. Dave Jennings
and I came in there and actually here call first
(26:42):
first of high.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Minor details before I'm just I'm a journalist here, okay.
Speaker 10 (26:52):
But you know what made the call that John Madden.
I had John Madden do me one of those illustrators,
so so that, I guess be my highlight is having
John Madden do a tlestrator on you. So now you're
trying to get me upset because you had to see me.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
I know your highlight was winning a Super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (27:10):
Okay, I know that, okay, and I gave you my
player highlight.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
But why are you angry because I'm not.
Speaker 10 (27:18):
So excited to talk about this because I did have
John Madden do a telestrator on me blocking a pie
that which was pretty cool. Right. Have you ever had
John Madden do a telestrator when you when you were
doing an interview?
Speaker 2 (27:30):
No?
Speaker 10 (27:30):
No, okay, but see experience. Not thing you ever.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
America just learned that you blocked a punt the National
TV and John Madden illustrated it. They never could have
known that. But that's me doing investigative work in asking questions.
Speaker 10 (27:47):
And the question was, oh, was that his first punt?
Speaker 2 (27:50):
No, that was his first punt?
Speaker 10 (27:53):
Oh, so you did know that.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Yes, it was his first. Ali Haji Sheik was a
kicker and he had to come in for Dave Jenning,
who was the former player rep of the Giants. I
might have been a great what's that game at the Meadowlands. Yes,
I might have been there.
Speaker 10 (28:10):
Wow, you don't remember my greatest play of my career.
You do remember the play? I remember the play?
Speaker 2 (28:17):
I might, I might.
Speaker 10 (28:21):
Wait, but so so, did you really look this up?
Because this was something that just you knew that that
that Als only had one punt and it was blocked
and you did not know it was me.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
I did not know it was you.
Speaker 10 (28:36):
Okay, this is fact five.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Was trying to get Ali on the show today to
surprise you.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
Wow, thank you. You're making me happy. Now, this is
pretty cool. You're like going down memory lane with some
of my eyelights.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Because your wife is not asking you this stuff. She
doesn't care.
Speaker 10 (28:56):
No, I tell her every now reminder I did play.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Do you remind her? Yeah? Do you remind her?
Speaker 10 (29:05):
Well? Just now, like I know, he's a little bit
of what I'm talking about. It. I know, after the fact,
you're always have all the right answers, But now I
didn't always have the right answers. I made some bad
calls at times too.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
But I would I would hate to have to interview
you like that halftime interview. That would be good, right,
like when you're losing and then you know, I say, hey,
what kind of adjustments are you going to make in
the second half? Coach? Multiple even if you're winning, I
don't want to interview you.
Speaker 10 (29:37):
You know you for winning. I got So what do
you How do you feel about the first half? It
doesn't matter because it's only a mad thing That matters
is the second half. Next question?
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Once again, I don't think there's a good question that
I could ask you where I was going to go, Okay,
we got something else?
Speaker 10 (29:53):
You maybe ask you what's was the greatest joy of
your playing career?
Speaker 2 (29:59):
What's the I walked to.
Speaker 10 (30:02):
The pumpey, all the hogs. You see?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Good to talk to you?
Speaker 10 (30:07):
Yes, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
I don't know how you you know you're going to
find something you know later later today that is going
to equally well.
Speaker 10 (30:16):
You know, I look forward to coming on here with
you because I just know I never know what path
you're going down. And so every now and then it's
something that's like in the and you do touch base
with the now, but you also like to go back
into the archives a little bit and just dig into
someone's history, dig into someone's emotions, dig into someone's troublesome past.
(30:41):
At times, and so I appreciate you allowing me to
go down memory lane to experience all those things, and
I look forward to coming on again. And thank you
for still had my bubble head out there.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
No, I won't. But you wore fifty three when you're
with the Browns, but fifty seven with the Chiefs.
Speaker 10 (31:00):
Yeah, I was fifty five in high school, fifty four
with sc State, fifty three with the Chiefs. I asked
for fifty two, but they wouldn't give it to me,
so I went the other way and went up to
fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Do you have that jersey?
Speaker 10 (31:17):
No, didn't have it for very longhand for two years
my career. I never stayed one place a long time.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Yea, but you did win a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh
and you did block a punt.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
Ah.
Speaker 10 (31:31):
Thank you for leaving me with good other special memories.
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Thank you, Special teams legend slash Hall of Fame coach
Bill Keller, thank you coach, Thanks Dan, And there he
is NFL today on CBS.
Speaker 10 (31:44):
See.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
My goal was not to upset him, and I thought, okay,
we got him, you know, with his highlight, and then
he took offense to It was Ali Haji Sheikh's first
ever punt as a police kicker. Oh, these diva head coaches,
you know what are you gonna do? All right, we'll
take a break when we come back. Mario just showed
(32:08):
Coach Calor when I said the diva No. The next
time you're on, I'll bring up the diva stuff. Thank you, coach.
All right, we'll take a break. We'll give you our
best and Worst to the weekend after this.
Speaker 1 (32:18):

the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Best and Worst to the Weekend, Todd start with you.
Speaker 12 (32:32):
We've had discussion about both of these, but I feel
strongly about them, so I'm gonna go with them anyway.
Best Saturday Night in Toronto. Dargest picture, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, became
the first picture since Chilling twenty four years ago throws
back to back complete games with postseason hits. A little
more on that, The last picture to retired the last
twenty batters in the playoffs was Don Larson during his
perfect game for the fifty six World Series, and since
(32:53):
Yama Motor's performance over the weekend, the last to record
back to back postseason complete games while allowing no more
than a run in each of them. Sherry Smith, you
remember Sherry Smith nineteen twenty Sandy KOFAX sixty five and
Oral Herscheiser eighty eight. Worst of the weekend LSU football.
And they were chanting Fire Kelly from the get go
first quarter when it was just a fourteen to seven
game that got increasingly louder, became forty nine to eighteen
(33:15):
at one point, and yes, Coach Kelly was sent packing.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Seatan best and worst. My best of the weekend jam three.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
Checking into the game, Joe Milton, the third Let's go
kid went three for four, I don't know, fifty eight
yards a touchdown. That's the future, right there.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Cowboys fans, that is the future, righty.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
My worst of the weekend is seeing Miles Garrett's brilliance
on display for absolutely no reason.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
That's just sad. It's just a footnote. It is. It's
just like, oh and oh, by the way, Miles Garrett
had five.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
So was the trade deadline next Tuesday, eight days away
or whatever?
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Somebody just do this loat of favor. Yeah, I agree
with Bill Kauer. Find the Browns. I can't trade him.
I can't. I can't. Does it make sense, yes, But
I mean at least the Browns have tried. They fail,
but they do try. I mean, they gave that god
awful contract to Deshaun Watson, they kept Miles Garrett. You know,
(34:14):
maybe with these draft picks that something good out of
you know, can come out of this. But they got
to find a quarterback. The game is all about finding
your quarterback. The Colts have been looking for a quarterback
for the last five years. They were going through Philip
Rivers and Matt Ryan, Joe Flack. I mean, all of
(34:34):
these guys. Now you might have your quarterback. You might
have him. Seattle might have their quarterback. Indy has their quarterback,
Tampa Bay has their court like Denver has their quarterback.
But if you're a head coach and you go, I
don't have to worry about that position. Wow, that's what
(34:57):
this is all about. Like the Titans, do they know
what they have? No, as anybody talked about, maybe you
sit cam Ward down, you know Bryce Young? Do they
know what they have in Bryce Young? That's the tricky
part trying to figure this out. Do we have the guy? Yes,
(35:22):
we do. Now we can move on to the other positions.
Marvin beston Worst of the weekend.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
The Browns did have their quarterback and now's the MVP
candidate for another team. But anyway, Best of the weekend
James Cook, Buffalo Bill's running back. Nineteen carries, two hundred
and sixteen yards in two touchdowns. Goodness, worst of the weekend.
It's tough because we like this guy. Bjon Robinson nine
carries for twenty five yards. And this is two weeks
after Rahie Moore said he was the best player in
(35:49):
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Yep, yep, you're right, yeah, Pauling I got two bests
A and M quarterback Marcel Reed two touchdowns, passing, two
touchdowns running. You gonna sneak in the Heisman conversation with
the win against Alish and again back on the list again.
Haines King of Georgia Tech eight no Georgia Tech three
for three, ran for two. My worst of the weekend, Dan,
if you're watching the Giants.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Eagles game, Eagles do a tush push.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
And the guys are pushing Hurts and he's struggling for
the first down and a defender knocks the ball out
clearly as the play is still going on. They said
a whistle had blown and Ford progress was stopped. He
was reaching, he was being pushed, and the defense has
only a few moves to stop it and one of
them is knocking the ball out. They did, and they
got taken away by the reps.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
The tush push will not be in the NFL next year,
and it has nothing to do with injuries. It has
to do with trying to officiate this. It feels like
on a weekly basis, they screw this up and it's
tough to officiate. And that's why I think they'll get
rid of it now they can do that and have
(36:53):
a legitimate reason why, as opposed to saying esthetically it's
not pleasing, But I think they're going to get rid
of the touch push. Austin Reeves had fifty one points
last day. By the way, the Lakers, Austin Reeves with
no Luca, no Lebron, put up fifty. I think he
had close to a triple double. Like I think he
(37:14):
missed it by one rebound or one assist. Oh my goodness,
uh Shay Gil just had thirty. The fourth player in
NBA history to have at least one hundred and twenty
points in the first three games of a season. So
Jerry West, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain, Victor Wembenyama. The
Spurs are three and oh. By the way, he has
(37:37):
one hundred points, forty rebounds in eighteen blocks so far.
He's the first player with at least one hundred points
and ten blocks in his team's first three games since
Dan Patrick shut the hell up Shack in nineteen ninety three.
Speaker 13 (37:53):
Stat of the day, stat of the day, that Buck,
stat of the day. Stat of the day comes that
what stat of the day.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
I don't know how good the Spurs are Dylan Harper
coming off the bench, but they are interesting and vit
Victor Winbayama is must see TV. Yes, Marph.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
If the Spurs by hook and by crook get the
fifty games, he's the MVP, No questions asked.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Fifty wins. Gus in La, Hi, Gus. What's on your mind?
Best and worst of the weekend weekend?
Speaker 7 (38:30):
Good morning, mister Patrick. Hope you and the boys had
a great weekend. All right, Look, my worst of the
weekend was gonna be Game one, Rotto uh. But then
last night. I was, you know, I was busy doing
a lot of things there and then I get a
text message from Buddha saying, what the hell is your
team wearing? And I'm like, what what are you talking about?
(38:53):
Because I hadn't watched the game yet, and I turn
it on and I'm like, Dear God, tell him that.
And that's when I should have known that this was
not going to go well for me. And you know,
but for three quarters it did, and then the fourth
quarter it's like, hey, yeah, you're still playing a ball game.
Best of the weekend, Yoshinovu Yamamoto. Look, I'm biased in
my thing, man, but that got to be one of
(39:14):
the best pitching performances on the road. Hostile environment, the
way that Toronto fans are that stadium, and he shut
them all down in order twenty in a row. I
will be watching the next three days saying pretty much
at Hail Mary every minute because Dear God, just line up.
Scares the hell out of me, and I'm hoping to
God that we can just get.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
This done here at home, all right, Gush, thank you.
Yamamoto reminds me of Pedro Martinez. Very slight build, but hey,
he's got movement and back to back complete games. You know,
there's going to be a time, like fifteen years from now,
when you're gonna have kids asking their grandfather, so, what
(39:56):
what was a complete game? Well, that's where a pitch
would start and then he would complete the game all
by himself. Yeah. Yeah, they'd go nine innings. Wow, that's
really crazy, Grandpa Mitchell and Charlotte, Hi Mitchell.
Speaker 14 (40:15):
I got pot nine. I've got two best and one words.
First best today is my three years sober. Second best
at your recommendation. Went up to Annapolis this weekend. We've
got some friends up there and we were able to
go to the Navy homecoming game and we were going
to walk around the campus beforehand. It was just an
incredible experience.
Speaker 7 (40:36):
And my worst of the weekend was my Atlanta Falcons.
What are we doing?
Speaker 14 (40:41):
Nine kerries for Bijon and three targets.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
I thought that you would get better quarterback play than
you did. Kirk did not play well. They did not
play well. They've been a big disappointment. All right, that's
two hours in the books. We got one more to go.
More of your phone calls. Best and worst of the
weekend eight The poll results as well the starting lineup
Fritzy Seat and Marv Paula Yours truly final hour on
(41:06):
this Monday, best and worst coming up right after this
