Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's our two this Thursday, Dan and the Dann's Dan Patrick.
So I'm going to go out on a limb and say,
this is the best crowd we've had in South ben
Yeah this week? Are you sure?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Best crowd that we've had. Say good morning. If you're
watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, or you're listening on
our radio affiliates around the country, four hundred cities that
carry this program. Steelers Bengals tonight, and the Steelers are
favored by five and a half. Dodgers Brewers Game three,
Blue Jays and the Mariners Game four. Coming up, we'll
talk to Marcus Freeman. He'll join his next hour Carson Palmer,
(00:40):
former USC quarterback, and coming up in about twenty minutes
from now, the great basketball player here at Notre Dame
Hannah Hidalgo. And I mentioned she'll be the face of
college basketball. She was gonna be one of the faces,
but Juju Watkins got injured and Page is gone, and
so this is the stages for Hannah Hidalgo. And I'm
(01:01):
sure that she will do quite well. I think she's
only like five to five, but she plays like she's
six five.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah, Pauline, you see the highlights, You're like, well, how
is she doing this? Crossing over right? Everyone knows where
she's going, and she's popping thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. All right,
so we got a great guest list coming up in
these next two hours. You got football coming up tonight,
and you got two quarterbacks who were over forty years
of age. How often have we had a game where
you've had quarterbacks this age squaring off against each other?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Paul I got the NFL history of quarterbacks over eighty total,
not one. Obviously, that would be rare facing each other.
You got to go back to John Elway Warren Moon
in ninety eight. They were combined eighty plus. I got ooh,
Vinnie Testa Verdi versus Kurt Warner, more Testa Verdi than Warner,
I think it was. They were eighty and eighty four days.
(01:58):
Brett Favre Vinni Testavers already seven. You've got Aaron Rodgers
Joe Flacco tonight, and then the top three spots are
all by the two guys Drew Brees and Tom Brady
face each other thrice and at one point they were
eighty five years eighty five and a half years old.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
That was twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
And once again you got Steelers who are favored by
five and a half against the Bagels. This is one
of those when the schedule came out, you know, preseason,
we're going, yeah, Burrow Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh. Yeah, this will
be great. Okay, maybe not as much, but I've got
the over under for passing totals tonight. In case you're
wondering who has a higher over under passing total as
(02:39):
far as yards go tonight between these two, if you
said Joe Flacco, you would be correct. Two thirty eight
and a half Aaron Rodgers two seventeen and a half.
But busy schedule coming up today tonight with baseball and
also with football Seeton. Would you update the poll results
from the first hour and what is the poll question
for hour two?
Speaker 5 (03:00):
Yeah, we just went right at it first hour. Would
you rather play football at Notre Dame or USC? It
sounds like my ride is here?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
What's going on here?
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Someone's got a hot rider out back?
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Is that Marcus Freeman. He's early. Maybe it's Hannah hoodalgo.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
So high school to do that sports car look at
me thing, or it sounds like you've got a bad muffler.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Are you kidding? I don't like cars.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Awesome that you like that sound in the middle of
our broadcast. I definitely don't like that sound.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
I would have loved to have had the opportunity to
have that sound for my car. Or look at me,
look at me.
Speaker 7 (03:32):
I'm over compensating for other things.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
A gorgeous classic car.
Speaker 8 (03:37):
I don't mind the car.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
This doesn't have to make that sound like it needs
like body, like something's wrong with the car. That sounded
like there's like a muffler hanging down. That doesn't do
it for me. Maybe a girls like that these days,
I don't know they.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Do, by the way, I remember in high school they did.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
I saw the guys who had those cars, like your looks,
your personality of.
Speaker 9 (03:53):
Your car, go, that's hot.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
It was amazing. The guys who had cars in high
school always had girlfriend. Always you had a you know,
tricked out Camaro or a Nova or Barracuda. And I
was like, damn, I'm still driving a tent riding a
ten speed bicycle. It was eighteen years of age and
I'm trying to how can you take somebody out on
a date? You want to sit on my handlebars.
Speaker 8 (04:17):
That's not going to work. It will never work.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
It didn't work. It did not work, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 10 (04:22):
Especially if you had a nineteen ninety four Tours. Oh,
come on, na what I had a car? Yes, I
had a car.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Hell yeah, I wasn't.
Speaker 8 (04:31):
I wasn't new to this true.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Come on, now, there is the cars, but there's cars
that helped you well.
Speaker 10 (04:36):
In East Harbor, Connecticut. You had a four Tours. Ooh,
Marvel's up.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Me power windows?
Speaker 10 (04:44):
Marvin, Oh no, no, no, those are just yes, Tom.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
Would you rather not have a car on campus to
live at home with your mom in Brooklyn and not
be able to bring anyone in?
Speaker 4 (04:53):
I would rather have cupcakes.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I would rather be on campus and not have a car.
Speaker 8 (04:58):
I think you made the right choice there. Yeah, it's
like who wants pizza?
Speaker 6 (05:01):
Mom making out here?
Speaker 8 (05:04):
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Knock on the door?
Speaker 9 (05:06):
Next time?
Speaker 8 (05:06):
You lived at home until he old too long?
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Until I moved to California, I was like twenty three four,
twenty two, Yeah, twenty one, twenty two.
Speaker 8 (05:14):
Yeah, that's rough.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
I had the head of Thomas poster up on the
wall coming out of her Jacuzy.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
That was the close I got to anything.
Speaker 8 (05:21):
It's not good. Not a good situation.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
By the way, Toad's talking about how the sound of
that car was too high school ishes. He's twenty four
with Heather Thomas posters on his wall, living with his mom.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
I guess I'm just jealous.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
That's the inner, you know, upsetness coming out of.
Speaker 8 (05:33):
Me, Like I wish I had the cool car that
makes a.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Lot of noise.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
You're upsetness upsetnes Is that not a word? But I
had the green banana seat, the bananas eat bike.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
That was cool.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Okay, thos were good.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
Sparkling had a little owl on the thing about made
a little when you turn the handle, scared the pigeons.
Speaker 11 (05:48):
I thought.
Speaker 8 (05:48):
I thought I was cool and the girls were it
into that and they don't care.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
If you know the atomic radio of boron that doesn't
excite the me uh seaton.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
What's the poll question for hour two? No, I just
had to blow through the side something and I just
tell you.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
Just go Would you rather play football in the USC
or Notre Dame?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Cheapers, creepers.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
This is a fifty point nine to forty nine point one.
Speaker 8 (06:14):
Want to guess.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Usc here come the Irish?
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Oh okay, yeah, just barely barely squeaking by on that one,
just barely.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah. There's a little too much studying going on here
for me. You know, it is a little quiet.
Speaker 8 (06:33):
Oh yeah, midterms.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
We were walking around campus yesterday and I was like, man,
this is way too quiet, way too quiet. And then
everybody was like, we got midtercheah, we got to study.
We pulled in today and it's like six fifty and
the library lights are on, like kids are in there studying.
I'm like, what are you doing?
Speaker 8 (06:51):
Damn?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
What is Yeah? What is going on here?
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, Paul, Yeah, If you're a big time recruit for football,
you go to Notre Dame, you're probably thinking, I really
got to go to class, not partially go to class.
Some of those schools down south no names, it feels
like you can get by with semi attendance. Yeah, yeah,
it seems like a more lackadaisical academic standard.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
If you're a football player. Then I didn't name names, but.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I don't know how much they are monitoring that. You know,
certain schools. I don't know, like, oh, I got to
do is stay eligible? And is eligible one point eight?
Speaker 4 (07:25):
I think it's two point oh it is two point zero.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Oh okay, we needed one point eight. I might have
struggled with a two to oh yeah, yeah, hey, but
I was a four to zero outside of the classroom. Man,
you know what I mean, Tony.
Speaker 8 (07:39):
He doesn't know what you mean. He doesn't know.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Remember we had manzell On and his set. He said
his second year at A and M, after the big year,
he took all online classes.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
And this is before COVID. This has nothing to do
with COVID.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
He didn't have to go to class anymore. He didn't
have to attend They said it cost too much commotion.
And I wonder how often that happens.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Now I can understand that he was a thing. Yeah, well,
I mean he was rare. There's not a lot of
those throughout history, you know.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
But he was so ahead of everybody else when he
wanted to be paid. And then they were on. He
was on the cover of Time magazine and you know
it's saying, you know, pay me the money. So that
was what twelve thirteen years ago, He's on the cover
of Time magazine, and we're talking about paying players.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Yes, so instead of having someone write the papers for you,
and now you got the chat GBT and the AI
and all that stuff. So when your time to play jarize,
you call it up on the screen.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
There change a few words here and there.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Because you don't normally talk like that or use words
that you're not familiar with, and then you just send
it in and next thing you know, you're still on
the team and everything's fine.
Speaker 8 (08:37):
It's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
What was the point?
Speaker 6 (08:40):
My point is, we're talking about great point averages and
professors that are letting kids graduate, and what's you know,
who's what's the checks and balances of kids that are
not meeting the grades being able to continue playing athletics.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Yes, Paul, I can help I teach a little bit.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
And they have things in place where defending chat GPT,
so professors and teachers can take all students activity, all
student papers, and they run it automatically through chat GPT.
It's much easier to get caught now for something like that,
much easier he get caught.
Speaker 10 (09:10):
Yes, Marvin, we said stay eligible, not graduating. He's like, oh,
let's graduate. No, No, sec you not to spell your name.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Come on, wowang Marvin, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
You can name conference Shay down South.
Speaker 8 (09:24):
I got it. Okay, well all what Todd Now.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
The punishment is you really shouldn't do that, and good
luck agets LSU.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
That's what you get.
Speaker 8 (09:31):
That's what the professor would say.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Eight seven seven three DP show email address dpat dan
Patrick dot com, Twitter handling TP show. So I gave
you the headlines there uh to a tongue of Ioloa
had his press conference, and this is after he had
a press conference after they lost a game. And then
he's basically calling out his teammates that they didn't show up,
but they showed up late for a player's only meeting.
(09:52):
This is after he threw three interceptions. And I'm thinking, okay,
if you're going to do that in your call out
your team after you throw three in, the first person
you throw under the bus is yourself, and you want
to mention players who didn't show up or showed up
on time. I don't know why that was made public.
So then two, it was going to hold a press
(10:12):
conference yesterday, and I thought this will be good because
now he's going to have to walk this back. Here's
the Dolphins quarterback.
Speaker 12 (10:18):
You know, for for myself, I got to look at
myself as as the leader protecting the team. I don't
feel like I did that to the best of my abilities.
I felt like I let the emotions of the game
get to me after the game. And you know, that's
something that I can learn from as a leader on
this team. And what happens in house should be protected
(10:38):
and none of that should have gotten out. And so
I want to publicly apologize about that. I want to
move forward and now I want to focus on Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
He doesn't do well in press conferences. He just doesn't.
Speaker 6 (10:51):
And I.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Understand when you go to the press conference after a
game and there's emotions and all of that, but you
threw three in. That's where you got to go. It
starts with me and we as a team have to
be better. There has to be accountability. You don't need
to have a player's only meeting. You don't need to
tell us that guy showed up late. Don't tattle, you know,
(11:15):
go talk to those players. He just doesn't do well
when he goes to these press conferences.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Yeah, Paulin, do you think he's unaware or he's too honest,
I can't put a pin on it.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
He might be one of those guys that says what
he really feels, like Rory McElroy to me, says what
he really feels. And that's why he's one of my
favorite interviewers interviews because he will say something and he'll
actually think about what you're asking him. But I don't
know what Tu is doing, but he's had a couple
of these press conferences that it's not a good look here.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Yes, somebody like Rory say, he seems to be pretty
mindful of what he's saying or thoughtful about it. It's
rare that I could think of that he really gets
tripped up where it's like, whoa, what did he just say?
And yeah, I don't know where that's coming from with Tua,
but there's definitely moments where he's speaking publicly and you're like,
(12:11):
oh brother, yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Tud And if you don't apologize right away, it seems
to me less authentic that you waited to see what
the court of a public opinion is to what you said.
Speaker 8 (12:18):
Is the agent involved the team?
Speaker 6 (12:19):
Did someone come to and say you really should comment
about this because this has just been a bad look
for you.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
To last for your days.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
It's almost like they should take him and talk to
him and say, what are you going to talk about
at the press conference, just so they can kind of
have a preemptive strike there if he's going to say something, Hey,
there's a There were always these episodes on the Office
where Pam was the secretary and she would be ready
to put a call through to Michael, and then Michael
(12:45):
would start saying something stupid, and then she would say,
I'm going to put the call in through to you now,
and then Michael Scott would he had already said something stupid,
and then you know, kind of keep him out of trouble. Yes,
Mark a.
Speaker 10 (12:56):
Tool with the Alabama a school that he was always
in front of microphones.
Speaker 8 (13:00):
Yeah, so it's not like he went to.
Speaker 10 (13:02):
Some poduk school in the middle of nowhere where nobody
paid attention. He went to like and he played for
Nick Saban and you don't know how to maneuver when
the media comes around starts asking you questions in a
press conference.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
That's a good point, uh, set, So what are the
other pole questions we're looking at least for hour two.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Still putting one together here about older quarterbacks but this
the USC Notre Dame one is a real doozy.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
We're going to ride with that for a little bit too,
all right. By the way, Dan Campbell, the Lions head coach,
he met with the media yesterday. Now, he had a
touchdown called back and it was a play with Jared
Goff who Jared Goff under center, went in motion, then
caught a touchdown pass and then there's a long delay.
They're ready to kick the extra point and then they
throw the flag and it seems like somebody upstairs or
(13:46):
the NFL Home office said, hey, you guys miss that.
That was it. Now, it wasn't an illegal formation. It's
it's an archaic rule, but they did call it. But
once you get to the point where you score the touchdown,
shouldn't be able to throw the flag. After you've scored
a touchdown you're lining up for the extra point. Here
is Dan Campbell, the Lions head coach, on that touchdown
(14:07):
being called back against the Chiefs. Did you get from.
Speaker 13 (14:11):
The reps on the golf a touchdown overturned?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
And did you agree with that?
Speaker 11 (14:15):
But it doesn't matter if I agree or disagree it
was It doesn't matter. That doesn't matter so I know
it came from New York and they said he never stopped,
he stayed in motion. He can't stay in motion. That
was that? So that didn't that was that had no
bearing on the game. I mean, you know we lost
(14:36):
by thirteen points.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
It did have a bearing on the game because it
was a great play that it was overturned. But I
reached out to Mike Florio because I was wondering about
this that who made the call? Because those on the
field we're talking about the referees on the field said
they made the call. Here's Dan Campbell saying, no, that
call came from the home office. He so somebody's lying.
(15:01):
They got the call right, but somebody is lying in
the process here who made the call? Because it seems
like the home office goes, guys, you screwed up there,
and that's when they throw the flag. To me, that's
in the books. You made the mistake. That's not on
the Lions. That's on you.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Yeah, Pauline, And what's really bothersome I think the league
should clean this up.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Even if they got the call right, there's.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Only so much time you should have to review whether
you're going to initiate a call there should be a
play clock right after the touchdown, just like there are
always on every play, a play clock starts running and
they kick the field goal, right, they kicked the extra point.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
And if they don't jump in, if New York doesn't
jump in, or the refs don't jump in before the
play clock, they's a play.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
It's history. It's over. It's a matter of fact.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well, Dan camp so I reached out to Florio and
ask him about this from Pro Football Talk. He said,
if Dan Campbell's telling the truth, the league one broke
protocol to throw the flag, and then two lied about it.
Ultimately the ruling was correct, which is true. They got
the call right. I just don't like the process of
getting it right. Well, we'll try to get a couple
(16:05):
of phone calls in here. It's a beautiful day in
South Bend. And in case you're wondering, South Bend is
what little over two hours from Chicago, two hours or
so from Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Well closer, but you know, near Michigan, it's kind of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
It's it's it's its own no.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
No, no, not a bad thing, it's it's.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
It just showed up right quick.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
I'm a lifelong Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
It's Pauli Tonguevaloa.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
It's omnipresent, It's it's islanders to itself in northwest Indiana.
You know, when you're growing up, people don't know exactly
where it is because it's this great image of Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
It's kind of like Duke basketball. You don't know exactly
where Duke basketball is. How's that I'm trying to I'm
trying to.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Save you here, Paul I'm good.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Oh great, this will help you.
Speaker 8 (16:53):
Awome once you find that where they are. Wow, look
what's going on here? Just trying to help a little bit. Prober.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Kevin Costner moment revisited, so we got to kind of
help it out.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, Kevin Costner yelled at Paully one day fun dropped
an F bomb. Yeah, that's all right. It was great
moment though, great moment. It's all about content.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
All right.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Let me take a break. We'll talk to Hannah Hidalgo,
the great basketball player here at Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman
a little bit later on in Carson Palmer, former USC quarterback.

Hannah Hidalgo, the great basketball player here at Notre Dame,
(18:38):
will stop by. Jared in Ohio leads us off by Jared,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (18:44):
Hey Dan? Thanks for taking my call. I got a
couple questions for you and the guys I wanted to
see if you can answer them for me. First question
is will you be going to the NFL Draft in
Pittsburgh next year so my brother I can plan our trip.
Shout out David in Ohio. Next question is what's your
(19:06):
favorite nickname for this Thursday night matchup between Aaron Rodgers
at forty one and Joe Flacco at forty? Personally, I'm
calling it the Senior Citizen Bowl, the one sponsored by
Icy Hot Orthopedic Shoes and A good Night's Sleep. Honestly,
I think whoever wins should get the AARP advantage.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
All right, Thank you, Jared, sponsored by A good Night's Sleep.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yes, we will be in Pittsburgh for the Draft coming
up next year. Kevin in Virginia, Hi Kevin, what's on
your mind today?
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Hey Dan?
Speaker 15 (19:38):
Hey keV, Good morning, to you. Good morning, six six
foot and a soft soft Hi, first time, longtime Dan.
A couple of things real quick. I got a bet
for Fritzy just a second, but my son Jack and
are on our way to South Bend right now. We'll
(20:00):
be there tomorrow at the show. Really looking forward to it.
We'll be at the game. But a couple opportunities for
you to get some good food while you're there. Make
sure you get a Ben's pretzel at the stadium. They're tremendous.
And maybe after the show today or tomorrow, take the
boys over to O'Rourke's right off campus there and get
(20:22):
some good burgers.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Well, thank you, Yeah, we heard about that. Pauli's been
scoping out the food scene. By the way, Adam in Michigan.
Hi Adam, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 13 (20:34):
Hey Dan, thanks for taking my call. Just a quick
A couple of things. Love when you guys go on
the road looking great in South Bend. I was up
in Green Bay when you guys came for the draft
and really enjoyed it. Just wanted to know, in the
next two and a half years or so, what kind
of locations are you guys kicking around as far as
(20:55):
potential possibilities are considering maybe a World Cup stop, maybe
Iowa for a game there.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
We've talked about we're going to be in Las Vegas
for Formula One for a couple of days, and then
we've got the Super Bowl, We've got the Draft. We've
also got Tahoe again. I'm not sure we talked about
Iowa visiting Iowa at some point. We were talking about
that last night and I promised that we would do
a pit stop there. Maybe we'll do Field of Dreams,
(21:23):
but I think it'd be great. The guys are excited
about that, and we may go to a different place
next year for a football game. PAULI wants to go South,
go to an SEC game, and I'm fine with that,
you know, I'm okay. I don't know if it's you know,
you want to go to Ole miss. That seems to be.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
The stone great tailgate.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yeah, she's Hannah Hidalgo, the Notre Dame junior guard, the
ACC preseason player of the Year, and well she's had
a star crossed, unbelievable career so far with everything that
she's accomplished, and we welcome in Hannah Hidalgo, make yourself
(22:11):
at home. Can I get your official height and wait,
or at least height. Okay, you don't lie about that.
Speaker 16 (22:19):
Though, No, no, no, I make everybody believe I'm smaller
in five to six.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
You know. Yeah, that's a good move. There a few
questions that I thought of with your dad? Was your
coach in high school?
Speaker 15 (22:29):
Yes?
Speaker 12 (22:29):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
How tough was dad on you? Oh?
Speaker 9 (22:32):
Extremely tough?
Speaker 16 (22:33):
I mean he knew like what was in me, so
like it was nothing easy. You know a lot of
people do like daddy ball and things like that, like
their parents take it easy on them.
Speaker 9 (22:42):
But not my dad.
Speaker 16 (22:43):
If I made one mistake, we were doing ten and ones.
It's just sprinting up and back.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
But when did he know what you had inside you?
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Probably when I was like four, when I.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
First started playing basketball.
Speaker 16 (22:56):
You didn't really know it kind of just assumed. I
just hope for the best.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Do you feel like you're the face of college basketball
women's college basketball this year?
Speaker 9 (23:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 16 (23:06):
I guess if that's what everybody else thinks. I mean,
I'm really here to who.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Well, I mean Juju's heart, Yeah, and you you're you're
the best player in college basketball and feels so.
Speaker 9 (23:17):
Is that what they're saying I think so, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Do you agree? Do you think you're the best player
in college basketball?
Speaker 16 (23:25):
I would say there's a lot of great women basketball
players out there.
Speaker 9 (23:28):
If that's what everybody thinks.
Speaker 16 (23:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Well, you got confidence, I do.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
I do have confidence in my game.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Of course, who do you model your game after?
Speaker 16 (23:39):
I used to watch a lot of Kyrie Irving growing up,
like a lot of his highlights. I also watched a
lot of Airy when she was going on her little
run in the collegiate level when.
Speaker 9 (23:50):
She was here.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
So have you met Kyrie? No, I actually have not,
But he's a fellow Jersey.
Speaker 9 (23:56):
He is actually yeah, yeah, he is pretty good ball handler,
great by one of the best.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
If you could play like Kyrie or Steph, who would
you take?
Speaker 9 (24:07):
Oh that's a tough one. I can't take both Kyrie's handles.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
And Okay, I mean Kyrie shoots threes, but does but.
Speaker 9 (24:16):
I'll probably do stuff. I mean he's unguardable with his shooting.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Are you unguardable?
Speaker 9 (24:22):
I mean, I don't know. I guess we'll see.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Well, I've seen so far in the first two and
you grew up an Eagles fan.
Speaker 9 (24:30):
Yeah, somewhat like a little bit.
Speaker 16 (24:32):
My dad was a big, you know, Philly sports guy,
so any Philly teams was the ones that he was
cheering for. So with your I didn't really know what
was going on. I just knew if they won, then
that was a good thing.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
What was it like though, when you went to a
Notre Dame game?
Speaker 16 (24:44):
My first time? Honestly, it was amazing. The fans were amazing,
something like I've never seen before. You know, I've been
to a lot of football games on my official visits,
but you know, the Notre Dame game was something just different.
How many scholarship offers oh too many to ca how honestly,
when they started coming in by like the dozen, I
just loop County.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
But okay, how do you sort out that you're gonna
end up at Notre Dame because Michigan was there, I think,
and Ohio State was there.
Speaker 16 (25:11):
Yeah, I think I honestly, just a lot of a
feel and a lot of prayer. Me and my family
prayed a lot, just that the Lord will guide us
in the right direction, and we ended up here on
Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
But you started with nil I did.
Speaker 9 (25:23):
It was fresh when I got here.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Okay, what was that experience, Like.
Speaker 8 (25:28):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 16 (25:28):
It was different because now collegiate players can get agents
and things like that, so it was it was really new,
and it was sort of hard to navigate because it's like, okay,
what's the you know, right amount? Like what do we
ask for and things like that. But now that I
have agents and things like that, they kind of handle all.
Speaker 9 (25:44):
That and I stuff.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Okay, But how's that work with an agent?
Speaker 9 (25:47):
I don't know, honestly, I don't know.
Speaker 16 (25:51):
Just tell them, let them handle the tone when I like,
and they kind of go go after whatever they can.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Okay, But do you feel like a professional?
Speaker 9 (25:59):
I mean in a.
Speaker 16 (26:00):
Sense, yeah, I mean it's it's a little different and
cross players can make money off of their name and
now it's like you get paid for play, so it's
it's kind of like the Kaligia level. But I don't
like to think that I'm a pro because I'm still
like kid.
Speaker 9 (26:12):
In the head.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
How important is the w NBA two?
Speaker 9 (26:15):
Extremely important?
Speaker 16 (26:16):
And you know, I think it's been my dream since
I was younger to be able to play at the
highest level in the w The.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Best player that you've played against in your career in
high school, in high school or if you want to
the first two years at Notre Dame as well.
Speaker 16 (26:31):
My best friend Madison Booker is at the best I
played against she's at Texas, Okays, and of course Page,
of course played against her.
Speaker 9 (26:42):
She's always given us problem.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Page was pretty good too.
Speaker 8 (26:44):
Oh absolutely.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah. Do you get yelled at by your coach? Have
you graduated where you don't get yelled at?
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (26:50):
Absolutely?
Speaker 16 (26:51):
I think I get yelled at almost every day in practice. Yeah,
especially when I'm trying to go for a steal and
I take myself off the place.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
Yeah, I'm always getting yelled at.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
But okay, So for people maybe haven't seen you play,
how would you describe it?
Speaker 9 (27:05):
I think I would say I'm fiery. I'm a dog,
you know.
Speaker 16 (27:08):
Off the court, I try to be, you know, a
little relaxed and more chill. But on the court, I'm screaming, yelling,
just very high intensity.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Paulie, would you give me the quote from a CBS
morning show when Hannah was on.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Yeah, we saw you on there last year and you
have this quiet voice for You're like, yeah, when I
going against my opponent, I enjoy ripping their heart out.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yes, Okay, explain that once you get when when does
that mindset hit you?
Speaker 16 (27:35):
I think right when I walk out to the floor
to do warm ups. It's like I was trying to
I want to instill fear into my opponents, especially if
I'm picking them up full court. I want to make
them so uncomfortable. I don't want to bring the ball
up the floor, you know. I think that's just my
mindset that I want to make my player as uncomfortable
as possible.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
If you could have a steal, or you could hit
a shot, what's more important to you?
Speaker 11 (27:59):
Game?
Speaker 9 (28:00):
Game winning steel? Yeah, that's a tough one. That's really tough.
Speaker 16 (28:06):
I probably probably a steal, a game winning steal. I
got those a couple of times. It's just something different
about locking down on defense for the game when and play.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
But you know, not everybody wants to play defense, especially now.
Speaker 9 (28:18):
Oh absolutely, that's why it's such an art.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Okay, but when did you I'm gonna guess your dad.
Speaker 16 (28:22):
Said absolutely, Yeah, absolutely. You know I was always told that.
You know, you're the smallest one on the floor. You
got to bring something different, you know, because a lot
of these girls have heights, so it's a lot easier
for them to you know, just be skilled in one thing.
Being smaller was like I had to be skilled in
defense because I didn't know how to score over bigger,
bigger girls, and so I just play like the all
(28:43):
the time. I always saw a defense wins championships.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
I love your defense. I know you score, but I
you know when you see somebody who wants to play defense,
and you gotta want to play defense. Absolutely, some people
play defense. They don't want to play defense. But what
would you say to kids about playing defense?
Speaker 16 (29:02):
Yeah, I think defense will keep you on the floor longer.
You know, when you're able to lock down your defender.
Coaches love that. I was always taught, you know, control
what you can control. You know, you can't control if
your shot is falling one game, but you can always
control your defenses. Mindset and just taking pride and not
letting anybody scrow on you.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
If you were going to play pick up and you
needed it was a two one two and I said,
you could pick one of my guys here just by looks.
What guy are you taking to be? Uh as your partner?
Do that? He's yeah, just them, There's no one else.
I'm sorry, that's my starting lineup. Hannah that's my starting lineup.
(29:41):
That's that's my fab five.
Speaker 9 (29:43):
Who could shoot? Which one can shoot? I heard you
was a shooter, but I heard you didn't pass.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
So no, I don't pass. Yeah, no, I shoot, and
I didn't play defense either. But if you left me open,
I'm gonna take your lunch money.
Speaker 9 (29:55):
That's what I need. Anybody who can shoot.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
I could set picks.
Speaker 9 (29:58):
Okay, yeah, I like that.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Seaton in the upper right. It can shoot. Yeah, he
can shoot. Marvin is kind of our James Harden left
hand or he can be he can be good and
he can be bad. And he doesn't pass either. And
you don't want Todd at all?
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Why is that?
Speaker 2 (30:21):
I know?
Speaker 8 (30:21):
I only go left, but I've got that nice inconsistent
hook shot from there. I got that Kareem thing, gooughing
once in a while, goes in.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
H Do you watch the championship game? You know, not
playing in a championship game, but do you watch those games?
Can you watch somebody else play basketball?
Speaker 9 (30:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (30:38):
I can watch other people play basketball. But if we
just lost in the in the tournament, then I.
Speaker 9 (30:43):
Don't watch.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Too painful.
Speaker 16 (30:46):
Oh yeah, absolutely, it's like dang, like what I have
done different to get in this position, and it's just like,
I'd rather go be in the gym.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
But what game do you replay in your mind or
keeps you up at night? Is there one that keeps
haunting you?
Speaker 9 (31:00):
Every Sweet sixteen game that I've been to that as.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I keep on me? But what is that pressure? Like
when we talk about regular season pressure and then you
know conference, Yeah, and then you get to the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 16 (31:12):
Yeah, absolutely, it's so different because you think just during
the regular season, it's like you have another game. If
you lose, okay, we can fix it, we can figure
out our mistakes. Once you start getting into you know,
play its winn or go home. And it's different because
it's like a lot of these girls last time ever
putting on a Notre Dame jersey or ever putting on
a jersey at all. So it's like you're finding for
(31:33):
something bigger than you know, just yourself, like your teammates,
who was the last time playing?
Speaker 9 (31:37):
And it's just like it's scary. Every game is scary.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
What's the most points you scored in the game. I
don't know, grade school, high school.
Speaker 16 (31:47):
Grade school. In high school, I think it was like
forty one or something. Forty five or something like that
anywhere between that range.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Want to pass the ball a little more?
Speaker 16 (31:57):
Yeah, I probably should have what we want, so that's
all that matters.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Okay, all right, But you never scored like fifty and
when you're in grade school?
Speaker 16 (32:06):
In grade school, yeah, probably, but it was middle school,
so I don't remember those days.
Speaker 9 (32:09):
It were bluntings off by fifty points.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Do you have keys to the gym if you want
to go in after hours?
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (32:17):
Yeah, absolutely, it's open twenty four to seven for you,
for everybody, for all of us.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Wait, like for me, No, not for you, but like
want need to get shots up? I go in the lab.
That's what you need to do.
Speaker 16 (32:30):
That's exactly what we need to do. But any any
of the players have access.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Who do you think is a better shoot me or
you're dead?
Speaker 16 (32:36):
Oh I don't remember my dad being able to shoot.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Who taught you to shoot?
Speaker 9 (32:44):
You know? It's crazy.
Speaker 16 (32:45):
My youngest brother, who's two years younger than me, swore
he taught me how to shoot. But I started playing
when I was four, so I mean she.
Speaker 9 (32:51):
Was like two years old.
Speaker 16 (32:52):
But yeah, probably probably my parents. They had me in
the gym all the time, teaching me how to shoot.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Do you think we'll get to a point where you'll
have bad faketball women's players leaving after their freshman year
sophomore year.
Speaker 16 (33:04):
I would think the way the woman's game is evolving,
it's it's very possible.
Speaker 9 (33:08):
It's very likely.
Speaker 16 (33:09):
But I think for me, I personally just wouldn't do
it because I just want to enjoy my you know,
time in college.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Well, how important is that degree to you? Oh?
Speaker 9 (33:17):
Absolutely notre dame degree.
Speaker 16 (33:18):
And you know, during my recruitment process, it was like,
once you get the note dame when you graduate, it's like,
if you want to go be a clown somewhere, you
can find somebody and find an alumni that's there with you.
So it's like, you know, just the connections and just
to the degree just sets.
Speaker 9 (33:32):
You up for life.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Okay, just to be clear, you don't want to be
a clown.
Speaker 16 (33:36):
No, I don't want to be a clown, but if
I wanted to, there's opportunity anywhere.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
But you're in film, though, aren't you.
Speaker 9 (33:41):
I am, I'm an ft teenager.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
What do you want to do?
Speaker 16 (33:44):
Probably after playing, after coaching, maybe in the broadcasting me
in front of the camera, just because I love the game.
Speaker 9 (33:49):
I know the game.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Oh, so not be like an actress.
Speaker 9 (33:52):
No no, no, no, no, no, something with sports.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Oh okay, so you want to do what I'm doing?
Speaker 9 (33:57):
Absolutely, yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
I can probably help you. I'm the Hannah Hidalgo of broadcasters.
Just to let you know I got dog in me.
Look I could tell yeah, I'm ready. I slapped the floor,
by the way, when I play defense events, No, I
give the impression I play that never stopped at I
always laugh when I see guys slap the floor and go,
what are you doing? That doesn't intimidate anybody.
Speaker 9 (34:22):
Gets them fired up. Guess I'm going Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
That doesn't stop me. The only way to stop me
was with a handgun and league league rules frowned upon that.
Oh oh, I'm not kidding. I'm being serious. Really yeah, jeez,
good luck this season.
Speaker 9 (34:42):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
All right, And if you want to be the face
of college basketball, you have no choices. With that face,
that personality, you'll be the face of college basketball. Hannah Hidalgo,
the Notre Dame junior guard, the ACC preseason player of
the Year, will take a break. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
On The Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio has the

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Once again, I'll say it, this is the best crowd
we've had in South Bend.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
Hands down this week.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Absolutely. Amen. Are you in a bad mood? Now? What's
going on? I gave you a compliment?
Speaker 8 (35:28):
Come on, get up, Yamn.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
You don't want me to turn on you like I do, Todd, Okay,
I'm just telling you. Rapid Radio is the official walkie talkie.
The DP show pushed the talk service national LTE coverage,
requiring those subscriptions ever getting before bad weather occurs, visit
Rapid Radios up to sixty percent off and free shipping.
If you haven't seen Hannah Hidalgo play, she is end
(35:53):
to end both offense and defense, and she is a wonderful,
wonderful player to watch. Not big, but she's not afraid. Yeah, Paulie,
I just.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Can't imagine we're sitting here with this young woman and
she's twenty, but she's never not been involved in NIL.
She entered with NIL and she's first generation. That was
as her recruitment. They won't I can't imagine being an
athlete in college, even a top athlete, and having that
much funds.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Available and that many opportunities.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Available aside from class work and playing basketball.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
It just it mst be a little overwhelming.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Well, it used to be you got a stipend when
you were in college, you'd get a pell grant. There'd
be some money that was there, but it wasn't enough
that you know, I went to a basketball well, I
went to a school before I transferred to Dayton, but
I went to a school where I remember they were
giving players, well allegedly used cars, like we weren't good
(36:48):
enough to get new cars. I remember one of these
guys came in and he got a used Monti Carlow,
and I thought, we're not a big time basketball program.
We're not giving cars to you know, kids to come
here to school. Yeah, poems.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
So, Hannahidalgo's pelgrant is over one million dollars a year estimated,
she has nil estimated deals of over one million, and
then of course now she's allowed to be paid exactly
from the program itself.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
I just can't imagine being I don't know, it's a
different era.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
And trying to have and that's where you you know,
you need your parents. You got to rely on your
parents in the school. You got an agent and just
trying to navigate that and you're seeing players who are
going there'd be no reason for her leave Notre Dame
early because you're going to the WNBA where you're going
to make one hundred thousand dollars. Now, you still get
that off the court money, but if you want to
(37:40):
get your degree, and she talked about how important that was,
you're getting paid a million dollars playing basketball.
Speaker 8 (37:46):
Yeah, Marvin, and in women's basketball.
Speaker 10 (37:48):
To me, you're a bigger star in college than you
are when you get to the WNBA.
Speaker 8 (37:53):
Like Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 10 (37:54):
If somebody says, hey, draw a picture of Kaitlin Clark,
they're going to put on an Iowa jersey, not Indiana
fever jersey. Some people don't even know what team she
plays for in the WNA at least.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah yea.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
And Hannah talked about too, when you go to Notre Dame,
it just opens up doors for you the rest of
your life. There's sort of like always a connection somewhere
where somebody somewhere and wherever you're going, there's a Domer
in there somewhere. It's like, oh, hey, yeah, me and you.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Right.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
The alumni strong any alumni, Yes, probably stronger than any
alumni in America when you think about it. Yeah, Paul,
can we.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Get honorary degrees this week for doing a couple of shows?
Speaker 14 (38:31):
Please?
Speaker 4 (38:32):
It could be fake. They can just make them up
and print them up on a little piece of paper.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
They gave me a letterman. They didn't give it to me.
They're about no, yeah, you're about to lose it to
you if they don't ask for it back then.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
It's like rudy too.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Yes, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Like an honorary, like a pamphlet, a certificate that says
we were like honorary degree for a month because none
of us could even come close to getting in here.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
No, but you know the letter I'd rather have the
letter letterman jacket with an honorary.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
But my mom's easily fooled if I say I've got
an honorary degree.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
She's eighty two. She don't know the difference. She'd be
proud of me.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Finally, only if it disintegrated. Yes, they gave it to you,
and you had like thirty days like.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
The Banksy vote painting that shredded itself.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Yeah, it just disintegrates there. Seton, would you update the
poll results? Carson Palmer will join his top of next hour,

Speaker 5 (39:24):
Yeah, we got up there right now. Where was you
rather play football? Notre Dame or USC Man? This is

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Thought, wow, so we run celebrity family feud. Todd was unbelievable.
And is it gone to your head that you think
you're better than everybody?
Speaker 6 (40:23):
I would like to think that that is not the case.
I'm not that type of person, but I was riding
a little high there for a little while, but that
was a while ago.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Yeah, that's what we've been saying. No time to let

Yeah, we dominated the Rich Eisend show. On Celebrity Family
Feud dominated.
Speaker 8 (40:50):
We let them win that first round. They were up
like eighty eight nothing, and they thought.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Oh, I know, I know that.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Yeah, but I like them to get that feeling of
we're going to dominate eighty eight three. Yes, they were
the falcons, We were the patriots that fact. Yes, they
were very cocky, and then all of a sudden the
comeback happened and there'll be a thirty for thirty I
think on the Celebrity Family.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
FEUW, we were like a swarm of bees those next
two rounds.
Speaker 8 (41:20):
Yes, Marvin, we start the interview from Magic City.
Speaker 2 (41:22):

you get it. I give you guys one hundred dollars
to go make it rain.
