Don't see another radio show.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Mahamava and filling it. It's Jonas Knox, Brady Quinn and
LeVar Erring. Dad.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
It's good broadcasting from the Mercedes man k. This is
the Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
It's a Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox in for DP and the guys.
You can hear us weekday mornings before The Dan Patrick
Show alongside LaVar Arrington six am Eastern Time, three o'clock Pacific.
But we are in for the guys here on the
second to last day of twenty twenty four, and we
(01:27):
are talking football.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
We are talking football.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
In fact, if you tuned in to hear some hot
takes on the NBA, Our four is the place to
be on this show for that.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Now we're gonna dive into it.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
I know this. There's a trade. There was a trade
the Lakers Minitarid. They traded d'andrel Russell to who the Nuts? Yeah,
for Finney Smith and someone.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah, Finney Smith and like a bag of funions, I believe,
And that's gonna listen, that's gonna really be the difference
in the NBA outcome year.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
You know, well, I was gonna ask does that do
anything for either team?
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Not really, But it depends on you know who you're
shilling for. If you are a fanboy of the league
and you need to push storylines out there, you're gonna
go ahead and kind of push that one and say,
oh my god, that's really going to impact things. It's
not at all, but you know, at least it's the Lakers,
it's Lebron involved, it's a trade, and so that's some
news for the NBA out there. So you just gotta
(02:25):
wait your turn. It's nothing against the NBA. You just
gotta wait your turn. Okay, this nickel and dime cup
that you threw in the middle of the season that
nobody cared about, including the team that won, because they
didn't even celebrate it. You gotta wait your turn. You
wait until after football season and then you will be addressed.
Other than that, you gotta wait in line. I don't
have to tell you. By the way, your guys, the
(02:46):
New York Giants, man just can't get it right.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Can they.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Well?
Speaker 4 (02:50):
A good win yesterday, Yeah, good win, a good win
that knocked him out of the top spot in the
NFL draft. Apparently that's really uh, they really screwed things
up there. You know that there are two different worlds
in the National Football League when you got something some
teams thinking about seating and then other teams that are overloading.
(03:15):
NFL Tankathon and the tankathon dot com website who couldn't
even take in people trying to look at the updated
draft order because there were so many people that were
trying to see whether or not their team was picking
one overall. Right now, that pick does belong to the
New England Patriots, with the Titans, Browns, Giants and Jaguars
(03:36):
rounding out the top five there at Tankathon. So look,
I I you know, I think this was maybe more
of an indictment on the Indianapolis Colts defense, who just
got absolutely knifed by Drew Locke and company yesterday. But
Giants fans don't seem thrilled about that that maybe Shad
or Sanders is not going to be theirs based on
(03:57):
the result from yesterday.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
So well, I would go as far as saying, any
team that's looking for a quarterback and New England's not
a number one, so they're a good trade partner, or
depending on who they viewed the draft as being that
number one overall prospect, you could take your pick. But
I would say, you know, maybe Travis Hunter is someone
they'd look at it taking number one overall given his versatility,
(04:19):
even though I do think he's gonna end up playing
cornerback the majority of the time, and then maybe situationally
on offense. Tennessee, that could be a potential candidate for quarterback.
You know, maybe they like Will Levis, maybe they don't
based on how this year's gone. Cleveland, you've got the
Deshaun Watson contract to deal with. We'll see what happens
this offseason. There's plenty of time for something to happen
(04:40):
before the draft, or at least leading up to it,
so they could be a potential suitor. And then you
have the Giants at four, who I think it's no
secret they're gonna be looking for a quarterback. But all
three of those teams between Tennessee, Cleveland and New York
now become trade partners for the New England Patriots, which
their track records always been if they could trade back,
(05:00):
accumulate more picks, build through the draft. That was more
during the Bill Belichick era. Now with Elliott Wolfe, I
assume they'll do something similar given that pick is equated
to a king's ransom, and probably even more so this year.
I think this year because of the competition to get
Shador Sanders as the first overall quarterback, because in my
(05:22):
opinion as of right now now granted the college football
season is still going on, but I would rank the
top three quarterbacks in this order, at least the ones
that have already declared that they're gonna be going pro.
Shador Sanders is number one, and I think there's a
decent gap between him and the next two I then
put cam Ward at number two, and then I put
(05:42):
Carson Beck at number three, and then again these are
based on the top three who have declared so far
for the NFL Draft, But those are essentially the three
quarterbacks you're going to be looking at as of right
now to draft if you're one of those teams. And
because Chador has separate himself from the rest of the group,
to me, that that's gonna warrant even more draft compensation
(06:05):
from one of these teams that's gonna be looking to
move up. With New England who's got Drake May. I
don't think there's any concerns about him being your future guy.
But for Tennessee, Cleveland, the New York Giants, they're all
in the mix, and there's in my in my opinion,
going to be a bidding where I think to get
up to that number one spot. If everything holds true,
still got some football left be played.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yeah, I think Tennessee would obviously go quarterback Cleveland. The
news over the weekend was Deshaun Watson restructured his deal.
What he's a hell of a guy that Deshaun Watson,
I gotta tell you, like, restructured his deal. So he's
going to be back there with the Browns to try
and make it a little bit more manageable for him,
you know, like you talk about somebody that's like willing
to like work with you after you give him two
(06:45):
hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed, Like he's like, that's
a stand up guy there in Cleveland. And then the
you know, the Giants are going to be looking at QB.
I just I do find it kind of funny because
the Raider fans were doing this last week and now
it's like, well, may as well just went out, like
if we're gonna blow our chance at the number one pick,
you know, may as well just beat New Orleans as
well too.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Who's awful.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
But I do find it funny how people actually think
that coaches and players on the present team are worried
about what the team next year and beyond looks like
when they're playing for actual paychecks and jobs. I do
kind of find that funny that people think that that's
(07:27):
you know, you've got you gotta look out for the franchise, okay,
because they're looking out for me.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
That's why I've got a one year deal.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Okay, This actually goes back and relates to the Cambore
conversation where he was doing something in the first half
of a bowl game that was more self centered. This
time of the year, what do you think all these
players are doing, who are playing for the New York Giants,
given that they've been eliminated from the playoffs. It's all
self serving, you are at this point in time. Drew Locke,
(07:52):
who had an unbelievable formance, the best of his career,
helping the Giants get their third win, however, knocking them
out of the number one overall spot. Do you think
he cares about where they draft next year? He's trying
to He's auditioning for every other team out there, as
well as his own for that matter, whether that he
can remain on in a backup role, whether he can
go somewhere else and sign a deal to become, you know,
(08:15):
a guy who can compete for a job. Maybe, like
that's what it's about. You know, Tyrone Tracy, you're the
running back, you know Devinsig. None of these guys care
about the draft position, about who they're going to bring
in to replace them potentially, like they're doing everything they
can to win football games. Brian Dable for that matter,
just as he's a head coach. I think there's a
thought that people are like, well, you know, if you
(08:36):
get the quarterback of the future, a quarterback who you know,
Brian Dida would want to work with, is he gonna
be there?
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Though?
Speaker 2 (08:41):
If they lose to Indian they lose in week eighteen,
I mean, those are all the questions that like, you
don't want to have to have my ownership or the
front office answer like, you'd rather win it as much
as you can not make it look like you've lost
the locker room, because I would say, if they lose
this game, based on how bad the Giants looked last week,
(09:03):
I mean, getting blown out the way they did, I
think it might be hard for the Merra family, despite
the fact that they came out in defense of Brian
Dable and supporting him when they got drummed by Atlanta
a couple of weeks ago, and then even how they
looked first Baltimore was very uncompetitive. They haven't really played
a competitive game since New Orleans back at the beginning
(09:23):
of December. And if that's the case, and the ownership
starts to feel like you're losing the locker room and
that's what it looks like at times, what it looks like,
there's just not enough parody, you know, as far as
on the field, because the reality is most of these
teams aren't that far apart. It's just there are some
times where teams check out, players check out, And in
this case, that was a huge win to stop any
(09:45):
sort of momentum in that case. And if you win
another one a week eight team versus Philly, you're kind
of putting together at least a little better taste in
your mouth heading into the offseason, despite the fact that
Giants fans, maybe even some people in the ownership in
front office are upset and you weren't gonna have as
good of a draft as it. But again, the head
coach players, they don't care. Like trust me, I've been
in that position before. There's not one person who's talking
(10:07):
about or cares about the draft position of that team,
and they're doing everything they possibly can't try to win
that game.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
It's like when Lovey Smith and the Texans beat I
think it was the Colts that final week of the season,
and everyone's like, oh, what are they doing? They blew
their chances at the number one pick. Well, I mean
they ended up with CJ. Strouds. Everything worked out fine,
even though he's had a down year this year. But
I just like, I don't know what you want them
to do, Like how many more examples of this is
a business do you.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Need before you go?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
All right?
Speaker 4 (10:34):
They don't really give a rip, Like and to your
point on Brian dabol like the mayors can say whatever
they want. It was like they had gotten significantly worse
after they came out and made those statements, like it
was getting bad and so he wins yesterday. They look fantastic.
Drew Locke probably had the game of his career. We
were having the same discussion about Arthur Smith last year
(10:57):
in Atlanta and we talked about it on our show
to where going into the final couple weeks of the season,
I think Atlanta was still in contention for a playoff
spot and the thought was Arthur Smith was going to
be back, and then they looked so bad and then
there was that altercation with Dennis Allen week eighteen, which
Jamis Winston maybe went rogue and you handled a ball
off and ran up the score, and next thing you know,
(11:18):
Atlanta's looking for a new head coach. So like the
idea that they're just gonna sit here and worry about
the betterment of the franchise when when they're looking out
for themselves and they should be, I think is preposterous.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Also, does this.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Not make the case for the Falcons taking Michael Pennix
Junior in this draft when their reasoning was we don't
think we're going to be picking this high again, and
they trust that draft class of quarterbacks, then maybe they
would have been potentially up for this year. Then that
make the case for them because it feels like Atlanta
made the right move upon further.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Review, Well, I mean it looks like they made the
right move when you look at Kirk Cousins is an
ability to come back from that kill his injury like
that in the first place, which was optimistic thinking to
begin with. But I always ascribe to this. There's two
things that were like entering into the season in the
offseason of and look at Green Bay. I mean, look
at they do with Jordan Love. I would say the
(12:13):
fun office, you could say the ownership group there in
Green Bay. They love Jordan Love, so they didn't wait
to strike on that. I mean, they did the same
thing with Aaron Rodgers even though they had a Hall
of Famer and Brett Favre and obviously did the same
thing with Jordan Love even though they had a Hall
of Famer in Aaron Rodgers. So there's an example to
be said for that based on how an organization like
that has had so much sustained success and consistency, and
(12:36):
so why other organizations don't try to draft the guy,
especially even if they make the decision to bring in
an older veteran to eventually have either as a backup
option a guy to push whoever that veteran is. I mean,
it did lead to a couple of MVPs for Aaron
Rodgers and at least a couple of runs at the
NFC Championship Game. I mean, it makes complete sense. But
I think more than anything else is if you're in
(12:58):
a position to take a guy, to take a quarterback
that you feel like as a difference maker and you love,
you take them, you take them. You never know how
that asset is going to play out in the future
for you, either with the starter that you currently have.
I mean, again, if you go back through the draft
order and we were sitting here talking about the New
York Jets, who are picking number six, And we could
(13:20):
sit there and say, well, we don't know what's gonna
happen with Rogers. You know, could Rogers play another year, sure,
and would he be better than other quarterbacks in the league. Sure,
But I think we'd all agree his best football is
probably behind him. Maybe I'm wrong in that assessment. Maybe
this year has a lot to do with the instability
and the coaching staff. Maybe the roster's not where it
quite needs to be. Maybe there's the issue of the
(13:42):
injury too. You get another year removed away from the injury,
even though he's another year older. Maybe you get a
you know, a better player from that. But if they
were to draft a guy, if I don't know, they
love cam Ward, and cam Ward falls of them at
number six, if the draft order stays the way it
looks right now there and looking and go all right, like,
I have no issue with that. He's going to learn
(14:03):
from one of the greatest ever do it. And if
something happens, either via through his play or an injury,
like you've got your guy there now that you fall
in love with. Now, are there other holes on the
New York Jets that you could probably address that would
be a more appeasing to Aaron Rodgers. I think the
offensive line is probably one of them. We can get
into the record that Aaron Rodgers just broke, so we
(14:26):
could talk about all these things. But the truth is,
at this time of year, if you can go grab
a guy you love at the quarterback spot, you go
take them. And then despite you know, Patrick Mahomes and
the Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, which those guys aren't falling
to them anyway. So it's a hypothetical, but it's like
not even worth entertaining. But in some of these other spots,
(14:47):
I mean, it doesn't matter who you're talking about. Like,
we know there's needs. I mean, clearly Las Vegas they
need a quarterback if a guy falls in the probably
taking them. But you'd have to look at some of
these teams and go, yeah, like I can understand why
they want to take a quarterback there if they them
only because of what they could mean in the future,
but what they mean as an insurance policy. And now
you have an Atlanta Falcons team that, yes, you know,
(15:07):
the divisions out of their hands a bit. They need
Tampa to lose next week. But if they win and
Tampa loses. Obviously, there's still very much, very much in
the hunt to go to win the division, host a
playoff game, and it's gonna be Michael Penno's leading them.
So you can make the case that has played off.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Let me ask you this, Brady Quinn, what do I
gotta do? What a Pete Prisco and I got to
do to get you on board with JJ McCarthy traded
to the Raiders? What do we got to do right?
What do we got to do to you? Why are
we so focused on that trade? Just because we thought
of it and because it was ours It felt like
a great idea, you know, like it feels like Sam Darnold,
(15:42):
why would you let him walk?
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Like?
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Bring him back? It's worked. The fit is good.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
And if the Raiders on the outside looking in, and
you got Raider fans that are bitching and moaning because
their team blew their opportunity at Shador Sanders, JJ McCarthy
he's there, like, assuming he's going to be healthy. You
got the Michigan connection. What do we got to get
you to do to be on board of this? Because
LeVar was not on board with us when we threw
it out there last week Okay, I'm gonna do.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
The hard part about it is the Raiders had their
opportunity to trade up to get JJ McCarthy if they
wanted him. He was sitting right for them at ten.
It's what the Jets right and Minnesota swapped. Yeah, I
believe the swap picks and traded up so they could
have gotten him. They could have gotten Bo Nicks. I mean,
there's a number of players they could have taken they
(16:29):
chose not to. So I'm not sure why all of
a sudden a year later that makes sense now, And
just because what Sam Darnold's done and what's most likely
gonna happen is Donald will get it like a three
year deal or maybe in a four year deal, So
the numbers are gonna look big, but it'll be basically
be you know, a year or two years of guarantees.
We're depending on how things look next year, depending on
how JJ McCarthy recovers. You know, that's going to largely
(16:52):
dictate what's going to happen moving forward. But because the
Vikings will have that fifth year option to pick up
and play with, they can let this thing play out
for a couple of years. They can go and do
exactly what the Green Bay Packers did with Jordan Love,
and they can watch them grow, watch them develop, get
used to the system, see how he recovers from the injury,
and go let Sam Donald be their quarterback. I think
(17:14):
that's the more likely scenario than JJ McCarthy getting traded
at this point. Damn.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
So we got work to do, all right. Listen to
the drafts of ways away. We'll get this figured out,
all right. We're going to sell you on this idea
at some point. Pete Prisco and I. It is the
Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Brady Quinn,
Jonas Knox in for DP and the guys coming up
next here though apparently the interviews have already started. They've
already started for one team in the NFL. We've got
(17:41):
the latest right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show week days in nine am eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Be
sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick
Show week days in nine am eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
It's the Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Brady Quinn Jonas Knox with you here, I just sell
your text. Well, coming up in about twenty minutes from now.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
We're going let's listen to this tease.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
In about twenty minutes from now, we are going to
try and get an apology out of Brady Quinn. Oh no, yeah,
he should be apologizing for something that he has started
and he is now going to have to face the
facts in about twenty minutes from now here.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
That's fine. So that's fine. Can I pick a bone
though with some of my friends who I mean, look,
they're true friends, because your true friends show that they're
friends by giving you crap like a pushing back. But
there is an element that bothers me about sports betting.
When people ask for betting advice, they take it, and
(19:01):
then yet they just blame you for when things don't
work out. And on top of that, what's really annoying
is is when you give them betting advice and let's
say they go two and one, yet they're upset they
didn't go three and oh you're and you're to blame
for that. I'm like, like, what do we gotta do here?
And so I've got a couple of buddies who they
(19:24):
like to, you know, ask for advice about different bets
and so forth, and I've become the scapegoat, Like I'm
the reason why they go five hundred even though they
didn't listen to me in one of the bets they
went in five and three. But I become the scapegoat
for all this. It's a little bit frustrating. I'm just saying.
I know that comes along with the friendship, especially with dudes,
Like that's just that's how it works, Like you give
each other crap for stuff. But I'm like, don't ask
(19:44):
for the opinion, don't take the betting advice, Like, go
ahead and fade me, bet against me then if you
think I'm wrong. But I mean, I'm just saying that
is one of my biggest gripes in regards to betting
or giving any advice to your buddies or even friends
for that man. Nowadays it's like I don't I try
to buy might song almost anything unless they ask.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
It's also you never hear about like all the great
picks she gave them. It's always the ones that went wrong.
Oh a nice call in that one game, all right,
what about the other three that I gave you like, like,
that's all I'm gonna hear about, is that one? Like
you if you are trusting somebody, First of all, nobody
knows what the hell is going to happen, all right,
(20:23):
That's why it's sports. That's why we love sports, because
we have no idea what's going to happen. You can
have an assumption, you can guess, but if like a
ball bounce is one way, or there's a bad interception,
or god forbid, there's an injury two minutes into a game,
but it completely changes the outcome or landscape of a game.
How the hell are you supposed to know that going
(20:44):
into it? And that's why I always subscribe to the
were you on the right side of it? And if
I can go back after the result, even in a loss,
and say, you know what, I had that right, they
just didn't cooperate, then I feel better about things. That's
that's how I address those situations.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Well, I'm sure there's a lot of people who were
watching the Green Bay Minnesota game and if you had
the over under, we're probably hoping for a stop by
the Minnesota Vikings defense, which just seemed gassed by the
end of that game. And it was inevitable that even
though they're down by nine. So there is a world
where if they get a stop, forced to kake a
field goal then run the clock out, you're probably winning
(21:24):
if you hit the under, which may or may not
have been some of what some of my buddies had.
And yet somehow I'm taking the blame for the Vikings
defense just becoming a sieve there at the end of
that game and hitting the over.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Yeah, of course it's your fault. It's that is one
hundred percent your fault. Like you, you are the guy
that they're going to blame, and that's that's the way
this works.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
And full disclosure, I've been awful in NFL betting this year,
like awful as far as the advice we've given out
on our show. Now, granted I'd missed like two or
three weeks of that, and that's that's my fault. As
I've said before, I'm not gonna blame Lee, even though
Lee did would text me and asking for picks at
a very inopportune time. That being said, it's one hundred
percent my fault. And so I'm trailing both you and
(22:07):
LeVar in a big way. But my college picks have
been much better.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
So yeah, Now, one of the things that you and
I were both in agreement on before the year that look,
you got to own it. You got to be responsible
and accountable for your for bad decisions and bad calls
that we make. But one of the things that you
and I were in agreement on, opposite of LeVar on
our show was optimism about the New York Jets going
(22:33):
this season, and oh boy are they a rough team
to watch. That game against Buffalo yesterday was brutal. They
weren't competitive, what's even And it's not like Josh Allen
was like lighting them up. It's not like, I mean, yeah,
conditions were rough. They looked terrible. And so Aaron Rodgers
(22:57):
at one point and he's sitting one touchdown, have five
hundred for his career, he joins Elite Company if he
can do it, potentially heading into his final season of
his career. He was asked yesterday after the game about
the Jets taking him out late and putting in Tyrod Taylor,
which actually did lead to an improved look on offense.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Here was Rogers, it.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Was thirty three nothing. We were sitting there and I said,
at some point, if I go to tyrod here, huh.
And then the next player threw a screen for a touchdown,
so it's forty had nothing.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
Garrett Wilson apparently not a fan of playing with Aaron Rodgers.
Davante Adams was dealing with a little bit of an
injury going into the game. He got banged up in
that game as well too, I don't know. And then,
by the way, the latest report, Ron Rivera is going
to interview with the Jets later this week. And then
(23:53):
Rex Ryan old old foot fetish Rex. He was talking
with Jake Asman on ESPN New York. By the way,
Jake Asman used to be an intern here at Fox
Sports Radio. Good dude, and he was speaking with him
and said that he expects to interview with the Jets
at some point soon. So Rex Ryan, Ron Rivera wheels
(24:14):
her in motion to change some things in New York.
Don't know if Rogers is back, but there's the wheels
in motion for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Jets, Jets, Jets.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
It speaks to a couple of things. I mean, first,
both former head coaches, So you want someone who knows
how to handle the New York media market, who knows
how to handle what you'd say is maybe an older
veteran team and maybe that foreshadows them wanting to keep Rogers,
wanting to see this thing out for another year. I
don't know, that's my initial thought on it. But again, guys,
(24:44):
who in Rex Ryan's case, has had success being the
head coach New York Jets obviously has a relationship with
Woody Johnson. And if Woody Johnson's ultimately making this decision
on who he wants to bring in, in his mind,
he's got an idea of what he want. One's the
environment of his team or the culture of his team
to be. And Ron Rivera, who's a former player from
(25:07):
the times that I've been around him calling games and
just talking to some of the players who've been there,
like you can tell like there's a strong sense of
accountability that he holds all of his players to and
he sees right through the bs because he was a
player and he can speak to a lot of that.
So I think there's elements of, you know, what Woody
(25:28):
Johnson's looking for out of that next head coach and
just hearing at least in the case of Ron Rivera, again,
Rex Bryan's more saying from his own standpoint. You know,
he's he's tired of working for the four letter notework.
He wants to get back into coach. He got more
fun doing that, And I don't blame him, but I'm
just saying it sounds like maybe that's more of the
direction they want to go, and they don't want to
(25:49):
have to cut their teeth on another guy, a lah
Robert Sala, who is cutting his teeth as a first
time head coach in that New York market, which again
was tough, although looking back on it, I'm sure they
would have rather not fired Robert Soliz to see what
would have happened this season that ultimately didn't do anything
to help the New York Jets this year, a team
(26:10):
that both you and I thought would be a playoff
team when it was all said and done.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
By the way, since we're on the topic, did any
team get better after firing their head coach this year
besides the Saints like that?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Well, I think you could go through history in the
NFL and probably most other places. How many teams do
like like get better. I'm not saying they don't maybe
go five hundred, but how many teams ultimately like improved
to a degree where you go, oh, that's a no brainer,
like that guy's got to be the head coach. It's
hard to think of too many off the top of
my head where you can say they go on an
(26:44):
unprecedented run and end up, you know, end up being
a team that you're saying, all right, that no, Brandon,
that guy's the next head coach, will be there for
a long time.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
So Antonio peers. But you know that seems like it's
worn off the optimism for Antonio Piers. What was his
record last year? I want to say, can you fact
check this? I want to say it was five and four?
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Four? Four?
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Was it?
Speaker 1 (27:07):
No?
Speaker 2 (27:08):
That was something else I was looking. I was his
playing career. Let's see, well he went five and four,
so yeah, one win better than five.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
And so there was this ground swellow of support for
them because I think they were just so relieved to
move on from Josh McDaniels in the locker room that
it was like, oh, we got to keep I also
think that that was because there was some regret that
they moved on from Rich Pasacia after the Gruden firing,
and then you know, they went to a playoff game
with Pisaccia but yeah, other than that, it doesn't seem
like it actually helps all that much. Like I hope
(27:36):
Darren Rizzy keeps the gig in New Orleans. I know
you're a big fan of Darren Rizzy because he will
light anybody up on a moment's notice. But he's the best.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
I love him. Here's what the NFL needs to deal.
We need to stop worrying about could just hire the
best guy? Can we hire the guy who we feel
like and actually lead a team and stop worrying about
like other stuff, like everything else other than coaching the
team of football, because unfortunately there's a lot of that.
(28:07):
I think that goes along in the hiring process, and
football is the ultimate meritocracy. I don't know why we
can't just look out there and say, like, who's the
best candidate to come in here, coach my team, help
us win football games. I mean, I would have said
Bill Belichick, but he's the head coach in North Carolina.
Maybe maybe that could change in the next six months,
(28:28):
given his buyout goes down to like a million bucks
whatever it is. But I don't think anyone's gonna wait
that long to hire a head coach. But the reality
is maybe he's a year away from wanting to come
back into coaching. We saw Pete Carroll. He wants to
get back into coaching. I believe he's a little bit
older than Bill Belichick. So it's all out there. I mean,
you've got perfectly qualified candidates. Mike Rabel obviously has been
a hot name, but you don't have to look that far.
(28:50):
I mean, you mentioned Brian Flores earlier. Brian Flores actually
has a pretty good track record outside of the lawsuit
that was jumped up against the Miami Dolphins and maybe
some other NFL teams. You know, he's he was a
hell of head coach in the sense of wins and losses.
Now he didn't handle too it well, and that would
be my biggest concern for anything that would be interviewing
Brian Flores is, hey, man, what have you learned? Like
(29:12):
you're the defensive coordinator? What have you seen with Kevin
O'Connell's done with Sam Darnold. You know, this past year,
taking a guy who a lot of people have written off,
and you're making into what a guy who should be
in the MVP conversation. I mean, look at this passerating
look at their record, look at the touchdowns, look at
what he's thrown for. Like Sam Darnald doesn't get enough
a conversation for at least being in the conversation about
(29:34):
the MVP. But that would be like one of my
first questions. But outside of that, like he's it's a
damn good football coach.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
That's why I do wonder because I know we had
this discussion last week where you thought the more prudent
decision in Chicago, if they're going to bring in a coach,
would be go offensive, so that way you're not having
to keep re replacing your coordinator. But I can't help,
but wonder if you know they're not looking at the
whole thing and on we need somebody to fix whatever's
(30:03):
going on here from a big picture standpoint, And I
wonder if Mike Rabel will get that shot with the Bears,
because that that feels like somebody with experience, somebody who's
been in the situation before, somebody's been around great coaches,
did a good job in Tennessee. That's why I wonder
if that would be the one. And one of the
names that was talked about coming along with him as
(30:25):
offensive coordinator was potentially Tommy Reese, who he's been working
with in Cleveland. So I wonder if that's the direction
the Bears go. But knowing that thought probably screw it up.
Isn't there a thoughts that Josh McDaniels might come along?
There might be, yeah, sort of there was that name
also thrown out.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Well, and here's maybe why. And this isn't a knock
on Josh McDaniels, but he's had two shots at it,
and typically when you get two shots at it, you're
not getting the third. I mean, most most head coaches
in the NFL don't get a second shot. And it's
one of the reasons why if I was Mike Rabel
or Brian Flores in this case, anyone who we've talked about.
I mean, I think rex if you end up getting
(31:00):
the Jets job, like he knows what he's getting into,
he's already been there. But for most of these head coaches,
when you're looking for that next opportunity, it probably will
be your last. At least the stats would say that.
So if that's the case, like, I want all the power,
I want all the control. If I'm going down, if
this ship is going down, I want it to be
(31:22):
because of every decision that I made. I don't want
anyone intervening in my decision making process as to who
I hire, who I draft, what my roster looks like,
how much we're spending in free agency, who we're going after,
what decisions we're making in that regard who were cutting,
who we're moving on from. I want all the power.
And that's the problem with the team like the Chicago Bears.
(31:44):
That might even be a problem with the team like
the New York Jets. I mean, when you start to
hear all the reports that are coming out, I mean,
we're basing decision making off Madden ratings. Does that seem
attractive to you? If you're Mike Rabel a guy who
like is a nobs like, just call how it is
straight to the point side guy, you think he wants
the owner to walk in and be like, I think
(32:06):
you should think about drafting so and so. He's got
a great math. I mean, how's that gonna go over so? Again?
We could talk about some of the top candidates, but
I think some of the top candidates might be saying themselves,
I'd rather rate for the right next opportunity because it
could be my last than any opportunity just because it's
out there for me.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
That's why when Rex Ryan threw his name in the
hat for the Jets job, like when we were talking
about on the show, like yeah, why not? Like if
he know like all the Madden ratings, all of the
chaos that goes on there, if he knows that and
is willingly ready to walk into that diaper fire and
be like no, no, no, I'd like another shot at this,
Like I would like to be a part.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Why wouldn't you just give him the job? Like why not? Okay?
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Like he knows all the dysfunction, he knows that Jack
and Brick, the sons of Woody Johnson are going to
be are going to be involved in some of the
the player evaluation based on you know who who performed
well when they had a controller in their hand, like
why Like why.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Not Rex Ryan?
Speaker 4 (33:06):
He had he had a pretty decent run there. I
don't know if Rogers. At this point, I'm starting to
be more and more convinced that we're going We're upon
entering upon the final game of Aaron Rodgers' career, especially
if he gets that five touchdown pass next week and
it's two DeVante Adams. I could see him sort of
with a big picture, big view look at his career,
(33:30):
being like, that's the perfect way.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
To end my career and just want so A couple
thoughts on that. As a competitor, it would be hard
to imagine going out like this, and I would at
least want to come back and take one more shot
at it now. The issue is, you'd obviously would have
to take into consideration the division should only get better,
(33:51):
Like Drake May is only going to get better. They
should only help him out with how they build around him.
In New England Miami, you'd assume is gonna have TUA
for a larger portion of the season. Even if even
though they won this past week with Tyler Huntley and
they may have to play with him this week, you
still look around the division, it's gonna be better than
what it was this year. And not that he cares
(34:12):
about that, but I think if you're Aaron Rodgers and
you're looking at this, it's like, there's no way the
competitor in him wants to turn it down now now
And look, maybe he talk to DeVante Adams, here's a
conversation with him. We have no idea how Woody Johnson
feels about Aaron, although based on all the reports, they're
probably not as big of a fan. I mean, if
you could lee go check the matting ratings, maybe that'll
(34:34):
play some sort of impact the decision. But I look
at it and just say to myself, as a competitor
one of the all time greats, I ain't going out
like this like that. That's where I think that is.
And so whether it's with the Jets or somewhere else.
And I do wonder if the Jets, because they haven't
(34:55):
started the interview process yet, they are going to interview
Ron Rivera this week according to reports, do they want
to get the word out about what they're going to
do with Rogers beforehand or do they want to keep
it in house and wait and see what a guy
like Ron Rivers's or Rex Ryan sees Because maybe that's
part of the attraction, is like I know what I'm
getting into with Aaron Rodgers. I know what he is
(35:17):
off the field. There's a show out there called Enigma.
If you don't just watch it, so you've got a
pretty good sense of who he is off the field.
And obviously he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. When
his name comes up for that. He's in There's no
question about it. He's one of the most talented to
ever play the game. And maybe that's more or less
risky taking an opportunity like that with him for one
(35:39):
more year, maybe a draft the guy to sit behind
him for a year, like we talked about earlier. But
I would I would think that from a head coaching
candidate's standpoint, I would rather know what I'm going in
there with a quarterback than not. And I would probably
tell Woody Johnson that even if he's frustrated with Rogers
or wants to move on, I would say to him, like,
(36:00):
this gives you the best chance to win in year one,
and look, if it doesn't work, we can cut bait,
get the young guy in there, and we'll transition pretty
much like that Atlanta Falcons did this year with Michael
Pennix Junior and Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
I mean, as somebody who was featured in that documentary
on Netflix starring Aaron Rodgers featured in episode three, I
support whatever Aaron Rodgers decides to do. You know somebody
who was featured in that at Netflix documentary Lee, do
you have Rogers? Madden Ratings by any.
Speaker 6 (36:27):
Chance I do, in fact have his Madden ratings. His
Madden rating overall is seventy seven, which is tied with
Kirk Cousins. He's right behind Russell Wilson, who's at seventy eight.
He's just above Bo Nicks. Derek Carr and Caleb Williams
are at seventy six. His awareness, which I know they're
into India Jets organizations at sixty eight, which is very low,
just above Kyler Murray.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Hold on a second, that doesn't make any sense. Like
he seems like a really aware guy, Like he's aware.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Say that's one of his strengthsmen.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Yeah, Like, I totally disagree. So tell Tell Brick or
Jack or whoever is responsible for the awareness portion of
his evaluation to rethink that that that's not a good
way to go.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
He said.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
I would say he's really in touch of himself.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Yeah, definitely, all right. It is the Dan Patrick Show
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Brady, Quiet, serious?
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Is that part of awareness? But myself, like, what are
we talking about? How are you defining awareness? Is it
like pocket awareness?
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yeah, what is Deshaun Watson's awareness? Since we're on the
topic here, do you have that it's got to be
off the charts.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Oh wow, sixty. Yeah, that's the lowest I see for
quarterback Adam Lee.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Where would you rank as far as your awareness.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Well depends depends what day of the week we're talking. Well,
what are they serving put high sixties out there with Rogers? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (37:52):

So do you want to apologize now or do you
(39:09):
want to just wait until our show when we're back
on the air tomorrow six am Eastern time. For your
criticism and harsh criticism I would say of knox Locks
throughout the course of the year, like like do you
want to like? Like do you you can pick now
or tomorrow? I don't care, Like I don't have a
preference either way.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
What am I apologizing for? I mean, you you make
these claims about your betting acumen, which we have no
idea about, like your I don't listen to your weekend show,
so I don't get to hear get in line whatever
your bets are. You just create a lot of these
these burner Twitter accounts, X accounts. But if you want
to call them and you try to pump yourself up
on whatever betting advice you gave out that I love
(39:49):
how you're laughing like Lee, and I know the stick.
If you go and look at anyone who's complimentary of
Jonas on X, you will see that it's a very
blurred avatar. They probably joined back around twenty twelve to
twenty sixteen, somewhere in that capacity is when it says
they joined, and he basically switches up the names and
but the avatars are all blurry. That's not actual people.
(40:11):
It's just Jonas trying to create more content for himself
and try to make it appear. I don't blame you.
I mean it's wonderful. Like we see people all the
time go on social media on these different you know, campaigns,
but they've got bots out there working for them to
help try to amplify the message. I get it. You're
trying to amplify whatever terrible betting advice you're giving. Lee.
(40:32):
You and I have worked together for a long time.
You were awful at betting. We've seen it firsthand. We
did the whole live bet Jesus which he'll never show
up again because he kept losing so much. We gave
him a hard time about it.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
I mean, I don't know how you can double down
on the insults after yet just a glorious opportunity there
to apologize for just your criticism throughout the course of
the year, and then you took that opportunity, you wiped
your eth know what with it, and now you just
continue to pour on the insults. And then he got
Lee back there nodding his head. Lee, what are you
(41:06):
talking about?
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Lee? You're you're asleep during the Saturday show. Anyways, what
do you know about it?
Speaker 6 (41:10):
That's very true, But I see what you put out there,
and no, it's always bad.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
It was three and oh this week.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Okay, no one cares, No one believes it. Anyway. There's
so much self promotion about your own show with your
name on it, which, by the way, I'm gonna make
sure Joel Klatt realizes that, you know, he's trying to
you're trying to steal the whole JKS and all that. Oh,
come on, he's been the real JKS show now. And
I'm gonna make sure that you get some sort of
letter from an attorney setting you a cease and assist.
(41:41):
I want you to know that it's becoming in the
mail at some point. Check email.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
There is no self promotion about the Jonas Knox Show,
which you can hear at two pm Eastern time eleven
am Pacific every single Saturday on Fox Sports Radio nationwide.
There's no self promotion there for that or hashtag Knox
locks and the three and zero performance that I had
this past weekend. There's a zero self emotion there. Okay,
I'm just letting people know if they want right picks
(42:05):
and the correct picks. We are starting to ascend now,
three games over five hundred years start, Yeah, starting to
really find our group with.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
One fabricating the lifetime you were winning it like a
twenty five percent clip.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Yeah, it's terrible. It's really bad. It is really bad.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
But I do appreciate Drew Locke and the Giants getting
seven and a half to the Indianapolis Colts and and
the Colts sort of wasting away.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
There at MetLife. So that was fun. That helped out
a lot.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Yeah, it wasn't like playoff hopes were on the line
or anything for Indianapolis.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
No, not at all, not at all.
