Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Two on this Monday Gangs all here, More phone calls,
best and worst of the weekend. What you saw that
you liked, you didn't like? Football tonight Bengals Broncos. Bengals
are getting seven and a half and Jets and Dolphins.
There'll be a lot of Jets fans in Miami and
the Jets are getting two and a half. You start
to think about, now, this is early to think about this,

(00:27):
but you start to think about worst case scenarios, and
this is a worst case scenario. If the Dolphins happen
to lose this game, and you wonder if management would
make a change there. You also wonder at a certain point,
do you start trading away assets if you know you're
not going to be in the mix here and if

(00:49):
you're going to replace your coach as well. I don't
know if you survive losing to the Jets at home.
Jets are once again getting two and a half points
eight seven seven three DP show email address DP at
Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at TP show.

Speaker 3 (01:05):

There you go, bang quick turnaround if you would like
to get one of those t shirts in other merchandise

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Todd, congratulations, yys that offuss be flattered or upstet.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
I think I'm kind of excited about it. See how
it sells.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
It's amazing the number of people who came up to
me this weekend. Random people be like, hey, I'm all
in with Todd. I agree, or be just somebody. Now,
these are just people coming up. They don't even introduce themselves.
They're like, hey, what it's Todd thinking you got to
get out of the left lane. It's a passing lane.
I said, I know, the very passionate topic. Thank you TODs.

(02:09):
But yes, Paul, do.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
You find yourself now driving to work and in traffic
looking at things differently on.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
The left lane?

Speaker 6 (02:15):
Yes, I'm analyzing it.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yes, I stay out of the left lane.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I don't even want to be in the left lane,
just gonna be right in the middle or the right lane,
just because of Todd.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
That's the right place.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Stat of the day brought to you by Penny America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. We
will get to more phone calls. We got to settle
on a poll question. Gerald McCoy played the game and
now he's an analyst for NFL Network.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
He'll join us.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Coming up a tie last night, entertaining tie and uh,
I think I have more questions about the Packers than
I do the Cowboys. Like I sort of know who
the Cowboys are. They're gonna be okay, they'll be they'll
be fun, entertaining. But the Packers defense, that's that was

(03:03):
what was surprising, because you're supposed to be really good
and now all of a sudden, you don't look at
the Packers, you know, after the loss against Cleveland, like, man,
you guys are stale, struggling. And prior to that, everybody
loved it. It's like Packers, man, their best team in football.
And I was like, it's only a couple of weeks here,
and you know, We kicked the Lions to the curb.

(03:25):
We kicked the Chiefs to the curb all of a sudden,
you see when Patrick Mahomes has a little bit of
speed there to break things up. Big difference. But the questions,
the questions with the Ravens, you're a bad defense. I
don't think you're fixing that. That's not even They're not
even bad. They're embarrassing, Terry, They're embarrassing. They're embarrassingly bad.

(03:50):
And you're watching and you're going, and you know, Lamar
got hurt, but they were getting blown out before he
got hurt. Now if he's going to be out for
a couple of weeks, and you start to look at this,
and I think I think we were okay that they
they went toe to toe with Buffalo, they went toe
to toe with the Lions. But you're seeing a pattern
of how many points that they're giving up. And if

(04:12):
Lamar is not Lamar is gonna have to be in
a shootout every single week.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
Yeah, Paul, the Ravens had the third ranked offense scoring
in football. They're ranked last in the entire league in
defense in both yards and scoring.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, but I like what I saw with Kansas City.
They it just had a different vibe to them, energetic.
I think when when you're watching the offense, it's like, Okay,
Xavier Worthy, come on down. And very few players in
the game who were like him. Yes, Mark, you're also
worried about Derrick Henry.

Speaker 7 (04:46):
Besides the first game of Buffalo, he just hasn't been
himself and he's it feels like he's got the football
version of the yips. If you saw people doing the
uh the fumbling tactic with him, Yeah, like the little
drill because he's so worked up about his fumbling issues.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
They got to figure out how they're going to use him,
Like he didn't forget how to run. But and he
was on the sidelines. There was a third and one
and he's on the sidelines. Horrible call and they have
to have him out there, even as a decoy.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, but when you give him eight carries, man, I
don't know.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
I lack of upset. We're all getting like we're offended
by what the defense is doing for the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Well, no, I'm upset with for Derrick Henry because he's
our gode.

Speaker 6 (05:33):
But they're such a frustrating team because they're they're really good.

Speaker 8 (05:36):
The Ravens used to lead with their defense. That's that's
why it is. It's egregious what that defense is doing
to the offense.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah, but that's one of those where you go, these
guys look out of sink. They can't stop anybody. And
I mean this is a Kansas City offense that hasn't
been great, and all of a sudden they look like
you know, circa twenty nineteen.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yes, Mark, have.

Speaker 7 (06:06):
You seen situations on different football teams where one side
of the ball is angry with the other because they're
not holding up there into the bargain.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
It happened with the Ravens with Trent Dilferd. They just
they went to him. Ray Lewis told me the story
and Shannon Sharp, you know, echoed the same thing. It
was like, Hey, all you got to do is give
us ten points. You guys, score ten points, won't win
the game. That's all they were asking for. You just
get ten and we'll win.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yees see.

Speaker 8 (06:35):
To be fair to the Ravens on defense, the injury
situation that's true is brutal. Yeah, brutal, that's crisis level. Yeah,
but everybody has you know, it's hard to keep your
team healthy. It is you know, survival, it's attrition when
you and they want to add another game.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, nothing to see here, play another game. Everybody gets
another paycheck. All right, We'll get to your phone calls
coming up. You got baseball starting tomorrow. It's like boom,
here's baseball. Europe over Rider over Team USA to win
the Ryder Cup. And we talked about that, talked about
some of the college football. Rick new highsch will join

(07:15):
us later on, will sort through some of the good
and bad and ugly. Skyler in Burlington, Hi, Sky, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (07:25):
What's up?

Speaker 10 (07:26):
Dan?

Speaker 11 (07:26):
And I have a bust of the weekend and also
an off headline that I think will make Todd crowd. Okay,
So best of the Weekend I was catching up on
the podcast this weekend, and after the car wreck of
last week, I'd like to officially cast my vote for
Todd for best and worst of the year. Okay, great content,

(07:47):
but such a wild take for.

Speaker 10 (07:49):
Him to be stubborn about.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Okay.

Speaker 10 (07:52):
And then worst of the weekend was how close the
Yanks got to winning the division. I mean instead of
getting to buy and potentially home field advantage through the
World Series and now we have to play the Sox
in the best of three, and you know they've hot.

Speaker 12 (08:06):
Our number all year.

Speaker 10 (08:08):
That's tough. And on the topic of the Giants impressive win,
the mock headline Jackson sharp Rookies blowout performance and it's
Giants skidded.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Okay, thank you, thank you, Skyler Christian Syracuse. Hi Chris,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Thanks? Dan?

Speaker 13 (08:32):
Hey, I got best and worst than the comment for
you and my best at Dak Prescott and I'd love
that one play where he's lobby lobbying for the face mask.
Is the place still going on? And I'm with you, guys.

Speaker 14 (08:43):
My tie is so on satisfactory. And I wish the
NFL just go back to the fifteen minute overtime. I mean,
in that overtime that gives you a third possession And
if it was fifteen minutes last night, that game ate
ended a tie. And my worst the fans rushing the
field and FSU Virginia game.

Speaker 13 (09:01):
Someone's eventually going to get hurt. And Dan, my Cincinnati
Reds in the playoffs. I'm so excited, and I'm sure
you're going to be the only one listening that knows
who this guy is. But the last two weeks, Dan,
I've been for good luck. I've been rotating, wearing my
home and away Paul Householder Jerseys.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Oh, Paul Householder is Paul Householder's number twenty one, Chrish.

Speaker 13 (09:25):
Same as Hunter Green.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, Dan, you are, You're good And in.

Speaker 13 (09:30):
A short series with the Reds pitching, they're going to
be a tough out. And I'll tell you for me,
everybody loves Paul's schemes, but I'll tell you I'll take
Hunter Green any day of the week.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Wooh oh, okay, Chris, Chris on fire. James in Virginia, Hi, James.

Speaker 9 (09:48):
Wow, thank you for taking my call.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
Brother.

Speaker 9 (09:50):
Happy Monday. D damn it slut the commanders man big
time all the time, every time. And you know I
got a lot, Man because it was a crazy weekend
of sports.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Didn't you lose.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Man?

Speaker 9 (10:04):
You know the jury is still out on Washington man,
Davin Jayden gotta come back. But one thing about Washington made.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
But there's no jury out on if they want or
lost that you.

Speaker 9 (10:15):
No, I'm just talking about I can't make a decision.
They're chewing two. They got a tough stretch coming up.
They're in the midst of before out of five game
road trip. I think after week nine they don't leave
the East Coast but one the Eastern time zone but
one time. So it's still a lot of the season left.

Speaker 15 (10:31):
Man.

Speaker 9 (10:31):
I'm just gonna hold out hope that Jayden comes back
and does what Jayden does, man, and just makes plays.
But for me, man, uh, it started with a baseball
for me real quick, DC, I guess I gotta I
got a lot for you, man. Amazing. Man, Oh, that
is just horrible. They had the best record in baseball
in July and to miss the playoffs, especially all they

(10:53):
had to do was get a w on the last
game and to get shut out horrible. I'll take the
Yankees over the Cubs in the series. Man, Tagging picked
against the Dodgers, but I don't know why this morning
if I felt the Covey were looking good, Man, but
the Bronx bombers. Judge's gonna get his ring.

Speaker 16 (11:08):
Man.

Speaker 9 (11:09):
And in football in college football, Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama
huge wins on the road.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
Man.

Speaker 9 (11:15):
It is tough to win on the road in college football,
and those are massive victories. LSU. Man, let me down
without this weekend, Oh, miss if they could run the
ball like they ran the ball forty two carries for
one hundred and eighty yards. I think one hundred and
seventy yards. The sec is wide open. Shambliss made plays
all day. I don't know his story where he came from,

(11:35):
but being introduced to him was something amazing. But Nesmeyer,
I thought he was going to be the difference for LSU.
But he was overthrowing guys and pushing guys out of
bounds on deep balls. He just wasn't giving his players
the shot. He's gonna have to play better if LSU
wants any chance of making the playoffs. On to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Real Quick were talking about come on, James, I just.

Speaker 9 (11:58):
Loved sports Man, and I'll just hey, all of a sudden,
the Chiefs are two and two. You look up, and
the last thing I'll say, man, real Quick, is the
new kickoff rule is changing games in the NFL. Back
in the day, man used to kick it through the
end zone and get the ball on the twenty yard line.
Now teams are getting the ball on the forty. You
saw Seattle win the game at the last seconds. They
just had a chance with a kick. That new kickoff

(12:20):
rule is turning into something real. And you guys have
a great one. Thanks for letting me run. Man, you
have a great day.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, the kickoff is changed the game, the field possession
position and you know, getting it to thirty five forty
yard line, you only need a couple of first downs.
You're in field goal range the way these guys are
kicking field goals.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Now.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Final results of the first hour poll question Seaton and
what are we going to go with an hour two?

Speaker 8 (12:49):
Yeah, for the first hour, we put up their worst
Weekend Coaches Edition. M Kirby, Smart, Brian Kelly, James Franklin,
Sam Pittman.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, Pittman lost his job. He did, so I would say.

Speaker 8 (13:02):
Well, he's in third place right now.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
People might not know who he is and that he
lost his job, but yeah, he got blown out by.

Speaker 8 (13:11):
Notary and now James Franklin has fifty four percent of
that vote, followed by Brian Kelly.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
I got Nitney Lyon. Fans are all over me here like.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Hey, I'm just telling you, I don't I could not
care less one way or another. I'm just asking is
good good enough at Penn State? And if it is fine,
and you're gonna have a winning record. You're gonna have
double digit wins, but you know this is a pattern.
You're not winning big games, which is obvious. But he

(13:42):
wouldn't keep his job at these other schools. They would
not allow that. In Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia. You
wouldn't keep your job. That was the point I was
trying to make. If you're four and twenty one against
ranked teams, that's.

Speaker 8 (14:03):
A habit, that's a pattern, that's now fifty six percent
of the James frank Yeah, okay, yeah, But.

Speaker 7 (14:09):
If you're a Penn State fan, wouldn't you take a
bunch of ten win seasons and maybe a couple of
bad losses against really good teams instead of say, if
I win eight games every year, but I beat Michigan
in Ohio State.

Speaker 17 (14:21):
Well, no, I want both. Why can't I have both?
Your Penn State, your Penn State. Maybe it's a generational thing.
I don't remember Penn State.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Being well no, even now, he look at the talent
that's come out of Penn State. I mean he's sending
guys to the NFL offensively and defensively. Yeah, Paulie, there's.

Speaker 6 (14:41):
A feel with James Franklin that the bigger the game,
the more not saying he's going to blow it, but
his program is going to blow it.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
And if you look.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
At the SEC and LSU, LSU hasn't been in the playoffs,
the College Football Playoff since twenty nineteen. Not acceptable down.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
There, Yeah, not acceptable.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
And it just feels tenuous with Brian Kelly at LSU
for some reason.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
It just does.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Whether you know, yes, who do we have on swagou
or he said that, you know that he's rock solid
down there at LSU. I'm like, okay, I don't. I
don't have anybody telling me one way or another. It
just feels weird because he's not one of theirs. It's
like Kailin de Boor is not one of theirs. Hey,

(15:26):
it was hot at you dub and you got him
and timing, but that's.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Not a guy.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
That's not your guy, your kind of coach. Same with
Brian Kelly, accent and all yes Mormon ed Ordron was
their guy.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
He sounded like their guy. He became one of their guys.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yeah, yeah, I got it o back uh ed o
character Yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Paul fifteen, twenty nineteen, ed.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Oh, he put the oh that time that Yeah, that
voice that all right, let's take a break here, we'll
come back. Gerald McCoy, I'm gonna ask him to explain
why we're getting all of these kick We have a

(16:19):
record setting start so far in the NFL with the
number of block punchs, field goals and extra points. Why
is that We're back after this Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 18 (16:39):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 18 (16:45):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.

Speaker 16 (16:47):
To and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber lit lame and me.

Speaker 18 (17:02):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 16 (17:06):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 18 (17:20):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 16 (17:30):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Age seven seven three DP show more phone calls, Best
and worst of the weekend. What you saw that you
liked you didn't like? Mine was easy. I went to
see Nate BARGATSI saw him at Madison Square Garden.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
He was great.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
He was very His humor is very very really he'll
give you a story, he'll give you a scenario, and
then you've either done it yourself or you know somebody
who has been in a situation like that. But Jimmy
Fallon warmed up for him. Nate's dad is a stand
up comedian magician.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
He was also there as well. Packed house.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
I think he sold out the garden three consecutive nights,
but entertaining. Got to meet him backstage, set a load
to him and fallen. Chris Rock was there. That's pretty
good when Chris Rock comes out to watch your set.
But very nice the whole crew. If you get an opportunity,
go see it. I brought my family there, went to

(18:43):
see him and family friendly.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Yes, Paul, I wonder how.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
Much tougher it is for comedians to play a huge
haul like that, like a monstrous setting.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
You know, they make it intimate. I remember when you
two they played. They had the big heart, like you
could be in the heart, like they had a a
I forget what tour that was, but they would play
these stadiums, but it felt intimate because they were sort
of playing to that smaller group but playing to the

(19:15):
entire stadium. And you know, the stage is right in
the middle of Madison Square Garden and he's walking around
and so yes, there are people all the way up
in the raptors, but he's he made it.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Seem like he's just talking to you, and he's.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Very you know, his his inflection, his voice. It doesn't
very it just very conversational. Something you know about going
to McDonald's in a drive through boom, everybody's been there before.
You're talking about, you know, your daughter having a sleepover
and how it changed his life.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
But it's just simple things.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
But he has a wonderful way of getting humor out
of something like that.

Speaker 8 (19:58):
Yes, that was the Elevation Tour which was for You Too,
which was off of the album All That you Can't
Leave Behind. Yeah, so that was like early two thousand
and two thousand and one is Yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
They made it, they made it feel intimate with that concert.
Gerald McCoy, NFL Network analyst, former defensive tackle and a
six time Pro bowler, joining us on the program Good
to see you again. Give me the science behind blocking
field goals, punts, extra points because we're we're at a

(20:30):
historical rate so far.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
Yeah, this is insane. Uh.

Speaker 12 (20:35):
First off, I think that I think what we're seeing
right now is we're seeing importance of all three phases
of the game. You know, we preach it aside the
building offense, defense, special teams, and uh punt team, flipping
the field, put block, you know, having an opportunity to

(20:55):
block the punt.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
We've seen it.

Speaker 12 (20:57):
Unfortunately with my books, yesterday kind of was a big
switching and changing the game with US versus the Eagles,
and then you got field goal protection.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
Then you got field goal block.

Speaker 12 (21:08):
And what a lot of people don't know is we
actually draw plays for these things. So it's whether it's
right block, it's left block, it's middle block.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
There's different things. So when you go through the.

Speaker 12 (21:21):
Motions in practice, this is why the coaches, you know,
like we were so focused on oh well, we got
these plays on offense, we got these plays on defense.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
When we do special.

Speaker 12 (21:29):
Teams, O line D line is just like, oh, okay,
well we're just gonna whatever. Well, when you take it serious,
you see what can happen. And when you are kind
of bs and through it, these are the things that
can happen if you don't if you the end blocker
on the end of field goal pro and you don't

(21:50):
get your hand all the way out you've seen yesterday,
they can knock your hand down and turn that corner
on you. These are elite athletes. These are best athletes
in the world. So if you're not to take in
this part serious, then this is what can happen. But
you see how much the third phase of the football
could change the game.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Man, this is this is this is insane what we're
seeing right now.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
And you know it's maybe I'm trying to think of
an analogy in another sport where this happens and then
it changes the momentum, you know, whether it's a home
run or a dun or something where it just feels like,
oh my god, they blocked the kick or so I
don't know.

Speaker 12 (22:33):
Well, uh, Lebron's blocked in the finals versus Golden State.
You know, they if if.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
Andre Goudala gets that layup and look and j R.

Speaker 12 (22:44):
Smith doesn't swim down, Lebron doesn't come due to chase down,
then we never see the Kyrie shot.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
The game probably goes away.

Speaker 12 (22:51):
If if Monald Genobli hits those three throws versus Miami,
you know, then we never see Lebron missed three. Chris
Boss tipping back to Realite who hit the historic three.
You know, I think those are different examples of if
this portion of the game, which is free throws or

(23:12):
chase down block you know, field goals and punts are
really like because you're sitting still the game stops. So
that's similar to shooting free throws. You're sitting here. These
free throws are crucial, So I need to make these
free throws, you know what I'm saying, or get a
get a you know, a timely block like what Lebron did.

(23:32):
So I would I would correlate it to situations like that.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Should we settle for ties have times in the NFL
during the inter season?

Speaker 5 (23:40):
No, No, I don't like ties, but don't like ties?

Speaker 6 (23:43):
It up?

Speaker 5 (23:43):
What would you do?

Speaker 12 (23:45):
Uh? They need to try and well, shoot, college football
is taking some of the NFL mold. We might as
well do some of the stuff that they do. Just go,
don't put it over twenty five and let's see what happened,
you know. Like, but we got to find a way
to not end these games and ties, man, because tis
just that don't work out.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
I think everybody was all in on the Packers after
what they did to the Lions, and then all of
a sudden you lose to the Browns and then you tie.

Speaker 12 (24:12):
Alas there everybody ooh, I was not okay, Well that
was not because of two weeks. And I kept saying,
it's two weeks and here's why I kept saying you
can't go all in. It's because after two weeks, think
about what took place. Okay, they had the mic, it

(24:34):
comes in. It's like, oh man, first off, this is
already playoff team. It was already top ten defense. They
were twenty second in pressure rate. So you go out,
you address the need. You bring in the guy who
led the league of pressure since he stepped foot in
the NFL. Of course your pass rush is going to
be better. But what happened. They won two games that

(24:54):
they were favorite to win at home. Everybody's like, oh,
look at what they're doing. Any attention to what happened.
They had a Sunday game, they played a Thursday game
at home. They didn't have to travel. All they had
to do was just go and roll into it with
the regular operation. We hadn't seen them hit the road.
We hadn't seen them travel, we hadn't seen anything. We

(25:16):
hadn't seen them tested. So when people was like, oh,
the Packers are the best team right now, the Packers
of the I'm like, how they the best team? We
haven't seen them do anything. How are they jumping the Eagles?
How are they jumping Buffalo? How are they jumping on
these people. And that's why I said, we can't just
put them above Philly when we've seen Philly be tested.
We haven't seen green Bay be tested for us to

(25:38):
be saying they're the best. What happened as soon as
they hit the road, they lost to Cleveland. Now we've
just seen them hit the road. I thought that they
were gonna blow Cowboys up. I think most of America
thought that this was gonna be a blowout game. But
we've seen what happened. So they just always say, you
can't crown people super early. You gotta let the season
play up. A have a philosophy. You do not know

(26:00):
who's who until about week nine of the season. Then
you start seeing like some consistency. Okay, this is what
they can do, this is what they can't do. Okay,
we've seen that. This is kind of like because I
remember one time we seen in Pittsburgh steel As going
eleven and oh, but everybody was like, well, I don't know,
that's kind of like a that's a fluff eleven and oh,
that's not a real eleven and oh team.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
So you know, you gotta let the see them play out.

Speaker 12 (26:24):
But I haven't been sold on Green Bay after two weeks,
like most people.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Are, what concerns you the most about the Ravens defense.

Speaker 12 (26:35):
I know they've had injuries, but even with even when
they were healthy, you gotta keep people out the end zone, man,
And it doesn't matter how many because before yesterday they
were averaging thirty seven points a game. Thirty seven points.
This is a National football league. If your offense is

(26:56):
getting thirty seven points a game, you shouldn't be losing.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
That's just reality. But also.

Speaker 12 (27:05):
Offensively, when you pack the middle of the field, which
is what Kansas City did. You pack the middle of
the field, you take away all those crossing routes in
the middle of the field.

Speaker 5 (27:14):
For Lamar, he struggles.

Speaker 12 (27:16):
To push the ball outside, outside the numbers and make
throws where he has to make throws outside the numbers.
And that's all Kansas City did yesterday. They made him
make throws outside the numbers. And then you get executy.
You're worthy back. You score points. You can't depend always
depend on your offense to score points like this every day.

(27:38):
Look at what the Philadelphia Eagles did. They are finding
different ways to win. They won yesterday. The offense wasn't great,
but what they do. They got to score on special
teams and the defense was lights out. Your offense is
not always going to give you thirty seven points. So
the other phase of the gay, other two phase of
the game have to show up, and defense is just

(28:02):
it's bad. Man, It looks thirty. They were giving up
thirty points a game and yesterday was just even worse.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
So it just doesn't look good.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Gerald McCoy, NFL Network analysts. You can catch NFL Network
bringing you NFL Game Day kickoff at seven am Eastern
the Vikings and the Browns in London on NFL Network. Well, okay,
given that the Ravens are banged up, not a good
defensive team. How do we then look at the Chiefs
because are the Chiefs that good?

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Or yes, yes they are.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
But the Ravens were that bad though, Gerald, Yeah, but also.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
Okay, the Chiefs over the past three.

Speaker 12 (28:42):
Years have been a lot of people say carried by
the defense. But as long as fifteen is taking the snaps,
they're good. As long as Andy reives calling the play,
they're good. We have to look at all the revolving
door of the offensive line. Now they got the off
of the line of play and the first three weeks.

(29:04):
Patrick Mahomes, as great as he is, he's not Lamar Jackson.
He can't be leading your team in rushing. He can't
do that. Were they able to do yesterday? They able
to run the ball one player, one player changed everything.
They put it Davire Worthy back in the lineup, and
it opened up the entire offense. They were able to

(29:24):
do so many different things. Well, you're gonna watch back
and watch them with the field of the Eagles. The
Eagles were being overly aggressive with the Kansas City Chiefs
wad receivers because they weren't afraid of anybody getting open.
They weren't afraid of getting deep deep downfield, so they
were being overly aggressive. Well, you bring Davie Worthy back
and look at everything opens up. Okay, I understand it

(29:48):
was the Baltimore Ravens defense, but it's not just about
how you're seeing. What you're seeing is how it's being done.
Patrick Mahomes didn't look under durest. He didn't look like
he was pressive. Get the ball out bath, get the
ball out here. If they be worthy here, get open,
beat over the top. So now what they're gonna do
is they're gonna get healthy, and then they're gonna get

(30:12):
Richie Rice back, and then this is where we start
to see. Okay, the defense is in place. That's one
thing we haven't had to worry about Kansas City. I
would be worried about Kansas City if the defense was bad.
The defense hasn't been bad. The defense has been in place.
They just haven't been able to put up points like
they normally do.

Speaker 5 (30:30):
Well.

Speaker 12 (30:30):
Now they're gonna start scoring points, and once they get
their whole group back, then we're gonna start seeing the
Kansas City that scared everybody again.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
So I think Kansas City is legit.

Speaker 12 (30:41):
That's why I was never worried about them losing those
couple of games, because they lost to the Chargers, who
hit the ground running. Justin Herbert is coming into us own.
I know he's struggled yesterday, but I still believe he's
gonna have a great season. They lost to the Champs. Okay,
then they won against New York. Obviously it was New York,
but we see they not as bad as you think
we've seen it. Yesterday it was just who they had

(31:04):
at quarterback. But then they won yesterday at home. Now
they're gonna get healthy. I think cad I believe that
Kansas City is they gonna get back to being that
scary team and.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
A rookies cadence at the line of scrimmage quarterback different
like do they sound like rookies or sound young when
they're calling out plays at the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 12 (31:28):
So I wouldn't say that they say young more than
it's not as complex. It's like there's no switch up.
So Drew Brees used to Yellow Lady, Old Lady. Yellow
Lady says he would switch it up, and then he
would he would have different colors and then he would
kill kill kill. He's doing a lot at the line,
so you never know what's gonna happen. Cam Newton Ready,

(31:50):
white Lady. He never would snap right on that. He
would switch. He would switch it up. Matt Ryan would
switch as up. When you go against he's it. That's
why pay they Oh maha, everybody thought the ball was coming,
he said, Omaha, I know it wasn't. So when you
have a rookie, you know, after a few snaps, if
he say this and he say is the boss coming?

Speaker 5 (32:11):
Because he's not. He has so much other things to
worry about.

Speaker 12 (32:15):
He can't manipulate the snapcount yet Aaron Rodgers had a
phenomenal snap camp. They can manipulate the snap camp because
they've done so much other things for so long. The
snapcount is just something that they add to their repertoire.
And there too bad rookies, you just especially if they
if you at home, All rookies are the easiest people

(32:36):
to jump the snap camp. They're not changing nothing because
they don't. It's not it's not it's too much going
on up here. They trying to see, especially if your
comfort is doing all this, and then if I know
what I played, if I'm playing a rookie, their coach
has told him that guy right there, make sure you
keep your eyes on him. So now I know he's
not gonna switch his snap camp because he's seeing all this,

(32:57):
but he knows I'm sitting right here too, and Miles
Garrett is over there. No rookie is gonna look and
see Miles Garrett and be thinking about let me switch
the snap cap.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
They can be thinking, all right, Miles is right.

Speaker 12 (33:08):
Here, let me But that's what what rookies so, you know,
So that's the difference. It's not that they sound like
rookies is they're not gonna manipulate the snack camp like
the Vets will.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
How did Aaron Rodgers sound?

Speaker 8 (33:25):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (33:27):
What was his what was his cadence?

Speaker 5 (33:30):
Aaron Rodgers? Uh?

Speaker 12 (33:32):
Aaron Rodgers was green at So when he was when
he would when his was so aggressive that you lose
sight of all the other things that's taking place. And
that's why he caught so many people with that free play.
He was phenomenal. What Aaron Rodgers is phenomenal, it is

(33:54):
catching people on the field with twelve men. He's he's
great at catching people subbing.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
So that's what you gotta be careful with him as
your subs.

Speaker 12 (34:03):
If you're gonna sub as soon as the play is over,
you got to make sure you know who's coming in
and who's coming out. You cannot be getting off the field,
and then you just got to be patient, especially when
they're at home. When they're at home is when he
gives everybody. If you go back and look when he
was in Green Bay, when they were at home, is
when he got most of those free plays. Because it

(34:24):
sat count is so aggressive and it can catch you
off guard. Russell Wilson actually has a very good hard.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
Counter's left.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
What's it sound like?

Speaker 5 (34:34):
It's just a loud and aggressive.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
This is real.

Speaker 12 (34:40):
It's just real aggressive, man. I don't know what you're
going through on someday. That's all we got chapel the
night before dog. Sure, Oh thanks for sharing. Great to
talk to you again.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
Yes, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
That's Gerald McCoy, NFL Network analyst and former defensive tackle,
six time Pro bowler. The NFL Network will bring you
Vikings Browns in London coming up next weekend. Their coverage
starts at seven a m.

Speaker 5 (35:16):

Speaker 2 (35:17):
We'll take a break. We will give you our best
and worst to the weekend right after this.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live. Best and Worst to the weekend. Let's go
around the infield, Todd, I'll start with you best and worst.

Speaker 5 (35:38):
Best of the weekend.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Vanderbilt gets a fifty five to thirty five win over
Utah State sally with three hundred and twenty one yards
five tds from Diego Pavia. They scored seventy points against
Georgia State last week, first time the Commoners have scored
fifty points in consecutive games in one hundred and ten years.
Worst of the weekend, Just when we're starting to believe
in usc after a four and oho start, they lose
at the Buzzer of Illinois, a team who just lost

(35:59):
six against Indiana.

Speaker 5 (36:01):
Trojans, gave up over.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
Five hundred yards, couldn't keep the fighting a line from
marching downfield to set up the game winning field.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Yeah, that was an exciting game, back and forth, uh Seaton.

Speaker 8 (36:11):
My best of the weekend right now. Christian Polisic is
on an absolute tear in Syria. He's got six goals
and three assists through the first seven games of the season.
A c malaner in first largely in partner, he certainly
contributed a lot to that, So that's great to see.
Heading into the World Cup. We need a guy like
him playing well. My worst of the weekend. Ben Johnson
going into the halftime interview, just super rude. In his

(36:35):
interview with the reporter, there really unnecessarily rude.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Yeah I didn't see it actually happened, but there are
a lot of clips with that. He took offense to
being asked about his offense has struggled, and it just
it was like an uncomfortable back and forth. Yeah, he's
just like, you know, daggers and it's like, oh, really,

(37:03):
you think we're supposed to do something differently, what would
you do? Yeah, okay, dude, chill out, all right, She's
just doing a job.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
And you know, yeah, that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
You know, you're gonna be asked a couple of questions,
like you agreed to this, Sar're gonna ask you at
halftime or pregame. But I mean, Ben, just be bland
be bland Johnson. Okay, got to make some changes. That's
what we're going to figure out. All right, thank you, coach,
see you later.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
That's it, dude. Yeah, chill yeah, Paulie. Ben Johnson did
this in week one with the reporter.

Speaker 6 (37:34):
He just jumped her questions like before she could finish them,
he started answering it. I think it's one of those
things first time being a head coach, you're in a
coordinator forever, not used to doing media, and now you
have to do media and there's no training tool for it,
and it doesn't look good.

Speaker 5 (37:49):
You know.

Speaker 7 (37:50):
Boo hoo oooh Marvin best of the Weekend Pooka and Nakula.
Thirteen receptions, one hundred seventy yards and a touchdown. Is
the Rams beat the previously undefeated Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
My worst of the weekend our New York Mets.

Speaker 7 (38:07):
Despite having the second highs payroll at three hundred and
thirty nine million dollars, they missed the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Oh boy, there's some sad little boys around here today.
Back room sad. Mario Anthony there, Mitch Dylano, Mitch, you
know your owner. You'll go out and buy somebody else
next year. Don't worry about it. By the way, Rapid
Radio is the official walkie talkie of the DP show,

com up to sixty percent off and free shipping.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Paulie Best and Worst to the Weekend.

Speaker 6 (38:47):
Best of the Weekend fifty six to thirteen. Notre Dame
over Arkansas CJ. Carr twenty two to thirty three, fifty
four and four touchdowns. Breakout game for him and the
other best of the weekend. I'll give you a year ago.
This guy was sitting there watching college football. Well, Terry Francona,
the manager of the Reds at sixty six years old,
squeaks them into the playoffs. It's no accident. He's fantastic,
Yes he is. He's a Hall of Famer. Ryan and Toledo, Hey, Ryan,

(39:10):
best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 15 (39:12):
Hey good Morren Dan, thanks for taking my call first time,
long time five seven a soft one eighty sot.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
Thank you for that.

Speaker 15 (39:22):
I had best, the worst of the weekend, best of
the weekend. The college football slate over the weekend was
great overtime games Penna State, Oregon, Tennessee, Missisippi State. Great games,
but the worst of the weekend of my cowboys last night.

Speaker 5 (39:35):
That defense was what was fast as well.

Speaker 19 (39:37):
Secondary couldn't hold anything. Dog dack Is playing at an
MVP level. Beat up o Y no CD Pickens looked great.
So just unfortunate they couldn't come out with that game.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Thank you all right, Thank you, Ryan, Keith and Chico
welcome back.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
Keith.

Speaker 20 (39:53):
Hey, guys, I have a couple of best and worst
of the weekend. Lane Kiffin getting the win versus his
daughter's boyfriend team has got to be a great feeling
as a father. I mean, can you imagine them having
a nice sit down dinner after all that. The other
being the Detroit Lions. What are resurgence for them? After
allows the opener? They go three to zero and have
not faltered since Putchison gets another strip sack.

Speaker 21 (40:14):
They look just fine without Ben Johnson. Worst of the weekend?
What is going on with the Packers? They're everyone's favorite
team for the first two weeks. What do you make
of them now?

Speaker 20 (40:24):
Also for the Ravens, do you blame the offensive coordinator,
the roster.

Speaker 21 (40:28):
Or Lamar for their offensive struggles? Thanks guys having one day?

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Well, the offense has been good, they've been scoring points.
It's the defense that's met when you go And this
is Bill Parcells talked about this. I'd ask him about
this years ago in the Super Bowl against Buffalo. He said,
we wanted to make sure, you know, we wanted to
slow down the game. We wanted to drain the clock,
We wanted to run the football. So every time they

(40:52):
got on the field, they knew they had to score.
We put extra pressure on them.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
You know.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
With the Ravens, Lamar has to go out there thinking
we got to score touchdowns, not field goals, touchdowns every
single time, Dak we have to go out there, Joe
Burrow when you know he was healthy with the Bengals,
that pressure, it's already tough enough. And now you're saying
every one of these possessions you have to go out
there and score a touchdown. And you saw it, Ravens.

(41:23):
You can't keep up that pace. None of these teams
can keep up that pace. All right, final hour, we'll
talk some college football with Rick Neuheisen. We'll talk to
him about Penn State losing another game, big game at home.
More of your phone calls as well, Best and Worst
to the weekend eight seven to seven three DP show
operator Tyler sitting by, take your phone calls on this Monday?

(41:45):
What update the poll results? Give you another one to
think about? In the final hour of the program, Todd
is here, Marvin's here, Pauli Seatan, yours truly the brg's
final hour on the Monday after this
