Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our two.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
On this Monday down a Dan at Pauli's out today,
but Dylan from the back room is step in and
hopefully we'll step up. We have the back room being
represented here. I don't know if it's well represented. Dylan
of course coming off the tragic pickleball injury, but somehow
has made it to Paulie's desk. Congratulations Dylan, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Dan.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
A warrior, yes, warrior, warrior not warrior. The back row
is intact. Todd is here, Seaton's here, Marv and yours. Truly,
we'll get some more phone calls, as we always do
every Monday, best and worst of the weekend. What you
saw that you liked, you didn't like. I take a
little time out from talking about the Dallas Cowboys and
Micah Parsons to give you a heads up on a

(00:51):
documentary I'm watching on Netflix and it has to do
with the Ed Sullivan Show. If you're old enough to remember,
the Ed Sullivan Show famously debuted the Beatles in Elvis,
but a lot of African American groups and really that's
what the documentary is about. Of Ed Sullivan saying to
the network, I want to have nat King Cole on.

(01:14):
I want to have these African American artists on. This
is the fifties, and there was some pushback from the network,
but he championed the black cause of making sure they
got the opportunity to have this exposure. You know, it
used to be getting on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,
like that's your break. But back in the fifties, it
was about being on The Ed Sullivan Show. And people

(01:37):
remember the Ed Sullivan Show. When the Beatles came on,
you couldn't really hear their music because the girls were
screaming Elvis when he came on. But Ed Sullivan was
really strident in making sure that African Americans were going
to be represented on The Ed Sullivan Show on CBS.
If you get an opportunity, and it's great to be
able to see some of these black artists and you

(01:59):
get to see the performance on Ed Sullivan. Seaton came
in this morning and said that he watched a documentary
and it has to do with Tom Brady. Tom Brady
bought into a soccer team in Birmingham, Is that right, Seaton? Yeah, Okay,
Birmingham okay, and the title of the documentary is built

(02:19):
in Birmingham. Brady and the Blues. Okay, so they're known
as the Blues. The Blues Okay, yeah, are they good?

Speaker 4 (02:28):
They kind of they they don't have necessarily like a
storied history of being great, but they're kind of a
classic team that goes up and down. The league's a lot.
So they've been in the Premier League and then they
get relegated to the Championship and then jump back up
and then sort of go down. They sort of not hybrid,
but they bounce between the two leagues a bunch. They
had been relegated again down further into the third tier

(02:51):
during this part and then during Tom Brady's tenure thus far.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Okay, yeah, because I've watched some and Leeds.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
It's very similar vibe to that Wrexham, and really I
think probably one of the knocks is that they're just
trying to do the same formula. But with Tom Brady.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay, you didn't have you weren't gushing about how good
it was.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Well, the formula is undefeated, right, you come into a
struggling soccer team and you try to rebuild it, that
formula will always work. Whether it's baseball, basketball, football, it
doesn't really matter. But the way that I'm a little
surprised at I didn't have a very good impression of
Tom Brady watching him through the so far, I've only
seen two episodes, to be fair, but that's about two

(03:42):
hours worth of the documentary, and he really has a
lot of moments that are like why is he doing that?
You know, Like there's this one moment where he bought
brings his like a friend in I think it was,
and they're pulling up to like the training facility, and
his friends is like really dogging on the team, like
this is the pieces a S team that you bought.
This place sucks, like the stuff. I'm like, why are

(04:04):
they airing that on this documentary. There's another part where
Tom Brady and in these in these whenever a new
owner takes ownership over a team, somebody buys a team,
a lot of times they go and meet with the
supporter group and like the fan base and like, hey,
so this is what we're thinking and this is how
we're gonna do it. And it's really casual. It's like
a nice event that they'll do it, like a pub

(04:25):
or something like that, and it's just like, hey, look,
we're just like you. But I know you're worried about
your team because you know teams there are are focal
points of the community, you know.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
And he like, right from the beginning, he's pulling up
in this gigantic Mercedes wagon, you know, and he's like,
how long do I have to do this? And the
like fifteen minutes stop. She'll be in and out, maybe
grab a pint with them, but that's about it. And
he's already talking about people like them, like how long
do I have to be with them? And You're like, dude,
just and he gets out like he's just stepped out
of like an Armani shoot or something, because he's got

(04:56):
this long trench coat on these crazy blue glasses and like,
I don't know, the vibes of it are very strange
for me, and I'm not really sure why Tom what
he's trying to portray with this.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Okay, but let's look at his character arc here. Let
me be fair. How many episodes is it going to be?
I think it's five, okay, so two down, three to go.
And Brady comes off as a Hollywood type and elitist.
I'm Tom Brady you're not. I don't even know if
the people in Birmingham know about Tom Brady or what

(05:29):
they know about Tom Brady. No idea, they don't know
that his football greatness well it doesn't translate to anything soccer.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Well I oh yeah, I mean they might know that. Okay,
so he was really great. But if somebody came in,
like the world's greatest cricket player came in and bought
the Patriots, you'd be like, I don't even know anything
about this dude. He played cricket, you know. It's a
little maybe similar to that, Like, oh, okay, I guess
he's obviously very successful because he's really rich, But what
does that mean for our team?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Does he know anything about soccer?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
No?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
It actually, right in the very begin he like they
are like, all right, so we bought this team, right,
and we're gonna do it. And he's going up there
to like go there to the first thing and he's
sitting in the back and he's like, so is there
another team in Birmingham And the guy sitting with him
was like, yeah, Aston Villa. They're like, oh are they good?

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
And they're like, oh, are they in the Premier League again?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
And he's like, oh, fter them, we're going to beat
them too.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
And it's like, dude, how do you How did you
buy this team and not even know what the other
teams were in the town.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
It'd be like if you bought the Mets and Steve
Cohen didn't understand that the Yankees were in Major League
Baseball Baseball team New York. Yeah the Yankees. Yeah, dude,
the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
What the hell's wrong with you? He just really came
across in a weird way, like intensely dismissive while wanting
to win, Like there's this air about it, like, well, like,
but I'm Tom Brady, so everything's going to be great
because all I do is win. And you're like, yeah,
but you don't know what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
It feels like Brady, because he's Tom Brady, we're going
to win, as opposed to he became Tom Brady because
he was the underdog and he worked really really hard
and maybe not applying what made him Tom Brady to
who Tom Brady is.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Right now, they go in there, right, they bought this thing.
Tom's standing there in front of like the team. It's
a little awkward because they have no idea who he
is and he's like, hey, guys, I've sat in these
chairs too.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
I've been in a lot of these meetings. I paint
the picture. What's Brady got on.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
He's wearing like very tight white jeans, a trench coat
that probably costs ten thousand dollars. He's like, the hair
is immaculate. Everything at these ten and like what and
he's like, yeah, guys, you know because all I do
is win. That's what I do is I win. And
you know because this where you're winning takes dedication. And

(07:46):
he's doing all the Tom Brady stuff. And then like
the first thing they do is fire everybody. The team
was already playing well, they were in like sixth place,
they're like moving up. They fire everybody and immediately go
to the last place and get relegated. Oh my god, dude,
what did you just do? It's it's crazy, it is
It's it's pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
But how does he look?

Speaker 4 (08:09):
He looks like the modern Tom Brady. Okay, very much so.
His his real estate game is off the charts. Yeah,
so the sets were always really nice, but.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Why would you unless somebody got It's just like I
go back to when Tom Brady did the Tom Brady
roast and then I was like, why would you do this?
You know, maybe they paid you five million, ten million dollars,
Like why would you do that? And then you're surprised
that they're taking dead aim at your wife or ex

(08:40):
wife and it's like, hey, you know, hands off, like
don't do that. And I'm going, why why did you
sign up to do this in the first place? Yeah,
and they like he you know.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
It reminded me a little bit of when his like
TV career first started, and it was like, I don't
know if he's taking this as seriously as he needs
to because I'm Tom Brady. I know football. Of course
this is going to be easy, and TV is different
than just getting on there and knowing football. You have
to know how to do it on TV, you know,
and that's that's difficult to do. It felt very much

(09:14):
a similar vibe to me of like, yeah, but I'm
Tom Brady and I win, so like this soccer thing
is going to be easy, don't worry about it. And
it's not. It's really not.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
But That's why I'm wondering about the career arc or
the the characters arc with this with because people in
Birmingham they just care about their soccer club. They don't
care who's running their soccer club. You know, as long
as that person can make the product better. We want
to win. I don't care that you won Super Bowls

(09:43):
or you look like you know a million bucks.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Here.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
We're a working class community here, we're not even the
best team in our own town. And you're coming in
and all of a sudden you got all the answers.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
And they're very upfront too, especially Tom's business partner who's like, look,
I'm just gonna be real with you, guys. Okay, we're
coming in here. We're pumping in a bunch of money
into this thing, making it a winner, and selling it
for as much money as possible. And oh my god,
that's not what we want to hear. That's not what
we want to hear. It all, that's what we've had.
We've had decades of that.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
You know. Uh, it's tough this.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
There has to be something about the uh like story
arc of his character that you're talking about, because I
just don't understand why you would do that.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
You don't come across as somebody who cares right, that
cares locally, cares passionately. If you if you're going to
a meet and greet and you say how long do
I have to be with them? That's not a good sign.
H ted Lasso is going to stay a little bit
longer than fifteen minutes and have more than one pint.

(10:51):
But if you're saying this on camera that it can't
it can't go over. Well, yes, Dylan.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I was gonna say, he's kind of doing like an
alternate universe ted Lasso thing where sounds like he's just
being kind of rude and no one's really listening.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Now, yeah, hey, you know what that ted Lasso thing's
played out. Nobody likes the nice guy. I'm gonna go
in there and I'm gonna be tough and fire people,
and I don't know anything about soccer, but I win,
damn it. I'm a football guy and I win. Look
at me. I win.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
He's not He's not necessarily being mean or anything like that.
It's more just like dismissive, out of touch because yeah, yeah,
a little out of touch, but more dismissive because like,
I'm Tom Brady, I'm great, trust me, I got this.
And you're like there's this moment where they have David
Beckham coming to a game and it's the game versus Wrexham,
so it's like star studded and like my Battle of

(11:43):
the American Owners, right, and they do this whole thing
and Tom's like, we need to get Beckham some swag
or whatever. Uh, And so they call the team office Birmingham.
They're merchandise people and they're like, hey, Tom wants to
get David like a jersey or something. And the people say, well,
we really shouldn't put Beckham's name on a jersey because
it's kind of like a faux pot, Like he doesn't

(12:05):
have anything to do with this team, so you wouldn't
put his name on a jersey. That would be seen
as bad times, Like that's bleeping stupid. Just get him
a hoodie or something like who cares, Like it's just
the right thing to do whatever, And he was just
like really dismissive over the well you kind of like
if you're looking for respect and you're looking for credibility,
this isn't something you would do because he's David Beckham.
He's got nothing to do with our club. That's just stupid.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Like, wow, man, I get the jersey part of that,
but get him a hoodie.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Yeah, get him a hoodie, right, that's all right?

Speaker 2 (12:34):
And the TV part of that you kind of show
up in having worked at ESPN for such a long
period of time, the number of former coaches or players
who came in and just thought, hey, I played, I coached,
I won Super Bowl. Hey, and I would let them know,
as I let Tony Dungee and Rodney Harrison know. That

(12:57):
doesn't matter from the standpoint of learning TV. You know
more TV or football than I do, but I know
more TV than you, and there's a big difference in that.
You have to understand how to do it. That's when
once you do that, then you can apply your knowledge
to it. But Tom didn't know how to do TV.

(13:18):
He knew how to be Tom Brady and talk football.
And people are going to wait for every word you
say until they realize maybe it's not as interesting as
we thought it was going to be. But this project,
I was really surprised. You sign up for this and
then you allow people to kind of Sometimes the mystery
is better. It's like Michael Jordan. Sometimes the mystery is

(13:41):
better Tiger Woods. Sometimes the mystery is better Tom Brady.
Sometimes the mystery is better. You don't need to know everything,
because then you're like, damn.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Ye, he's still great, He's still He clearly wants to win.
There's no doubt about that. He clearly wants to win.
But there seems to be almost like a lack of
respect towards the people who do it, and they're like, nah,
you just just do it like this, Just trust me,
because that's what we did. We win. That's why I
know in my gut that this is the way it's done.

(14:12):
And it's like that just got you into last place.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
But he also fired Wayne Rooney.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
Well, he brought in Wayne Rooney, which was the first problem,
and then fired Wayne Rooney, which.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Is this He complained about Wayne Rooney's work ethic.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Yeah, that that got a lot of rounds on social media.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Was yeah, so you're gonna you're gonna fire. Is he
the most famous English football player. He's certainly one of
the best of all time. And yeah, by the way,
he might not have been wrong, He might not have
been wrong at all.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
However, it was just a little awkward to be like,
I don't know how I feel about Wayne, Like, uh, okay,
hold on, yes, Dylan.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
I didn't really have anything, Dan, but.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
You look like you were poised.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
It seems like for time, I'm like the he just
walks into these like side quest things and he's like,
this will be easy compared to what I've done, and
then it doesn't actually work out that way.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
I mean, he's wired to play football to understand football,
and then you go into something else, and it'd be
like if I went from doing radio and TV and
then I went into directing a film, I would have
no idea what I'm doing.

Speaker 6 (15:24):
Now.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
I've been in films and doesn't mean I know what
I'm doing, but it just feels like, hey, I'm a
winner over here and I can do that. You just
lead people, that's all. Well, you have to have a
leader there, you have to have talent there. But you
also have to buy into what the local I mean,
this is what they bleed. They bleed blue. Yeah see,

(15:46):
I did like this one part though.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Tom was talking and he was just like, look, it
might fail, and like that's totally okay. It's totally okay
if this doesn't work out, But like I tried, and
I definitely did my best. I might do the wrong thing,
but I'm definitely trying my best. I'm giving this everything
I have I'm trying as hard as I can to
build a winner, even if I get it wrong. I
don't feel bad about that.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
I'm just surprised at the lack of preparation by him
that when you go to Birmingham, that's where you do
a deep dive on the people there and you know
that there's another soccer team in town, like you know
all of these things, you go in with the working
knowledge of the working man. Yes, s right.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
You can't go in there and you know, like not
know anything about the community, not know anything about you know,
the other teams are really even the history of your team,
and be like, hey, we all bleed blue right, We're
one family. Huh huh, We're all family right. It feels
it's very like corporate speak, like this is what we

(16:46):
say when we're the owners. Now, this is what owners
say to get everybody on the side. Huh, we all
bleed blue right.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Is there a certain amount of money that you make
or a certain amount of fame where maybe you lose
touch with reality? You know?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I once read I Forget. I wish I could remember
where because I just thought it was so smart. But
the person was saying, basically, once you hit about three
hundred million dollars and above, you've lost all contact with
reality life no longer. You're not living in the real world.
You're living in an insanely wealthy world where things you

(17:21):
shape your own world now and create that and then
you live within that bubble and that reality just does
not exist anymore because you just have the resources to
get anything you want and shape it any way you want.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
And then there was the part of the Scottie Scheffler
was talking about how family comes first over golf, and
then Tom. I don't know if Tom thought that Scotti
Seffler was talking about Tom, but Tom then said, why
does it have to be mutual? You know, can it
be mutually exclusive that you care about your family but

(17:55):
you care about your sport. And I'm thinking Tom is
not the right guy to talk about this to Scotti Scheffler,
Tony Feenow who has like five kids and balances that
with being on tour. But you know, Tom had a
son with his girlfriend who was pregnant, and he left
her with Giselle and then gave up basically Giselle to

(18:18):
continue to play football. She gave him an ultimatum. But
I don't think Tom should be talking to Scotti Scheffler
about you know, family and you know your passion your sport.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Trust me because this is the way it's done.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Okay, because I know. All right, let me take a break.
We will check in with the Dallas Cowboys coming up
and how serious is this? Todd Archer from the Mothership
will join us. He covers the Cowboys and coming up
next to our Brent Musburger and Sterling Sharp, just elected
to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will join us
as well. It's best and worst of the weekend Monday.

(18:51):
We'll get phone calls as well.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Back after this, be sure to catch the live edition
of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern
six am on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 7 (19:04):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 7 (19:10):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to.

Speaker 8 (19:13):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Yeah, you blubber list lame in me.

Speaker 7 (19:27):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 8 (19:55):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards to the program. Good morning. If
you're watching on Peacock that's our streaming partner, or listening
on our radio affiliates over four hundred cities that carry
the program, spend a lot of time, maybe too much
time in the first hour talking about the Cowboys, But
can you ever really talk too much about the Cowboys?

(20:28):
Todd Archer does that for a living. He gets to
cover the Cowboys. He's been doing that since two thousand
and three, NFL reporters since nineteen ninety seven. Good to
have you back on the show, Todd. Why is this
different with Michael Parsons than maybe other holdouts contract situations.

Speaker 9 (20:48):
In the time I've been covering this team, I don't
remember a player ever making a trade request in and
I ask people who've been around longer than me if
they remember one, even early in Jerry's time or even
going back to Landria, and no one could really think
of one.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
So that's what makes this different. Not in Jerry's mind obviously,
because he.

Speaker 9 (21:06):
Says to the Cowboys fans don't lose it, lose any
sleep over it, and is this is all part of
the negotiation.

Speaker 6 (21:13):
I don't know if Mike is losing any sleep over it.

Speaker 9 (21:16):
But you could see on his face as he was
watching practice really not engaged at all for the first time,
that he's pretty frustrated and discouraged by this thing.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
But Jerry is going to sign him, right.

Speaker 9 (21:29):
I mean, tell me the last time a Cowboys star
player has not signed that Jerry has not kept. It
took Emmett missing two games and the Cowboys going zero
to two and ninety three for that deal to get done.
We know the DAK deals have taken time here the
last couple negotiations that DAK has had. We saw Cede
Lamb's negotiation take through the almost the end of August

(21:54):
last year. But again, none of those guys said, I
don't want to be here anymore. None of those guys
claimed talked about the repeated shots that they feel the
organization is taken against them. That's what makes this different,
and that's what makes it different in my mind, from
even Miles Garrett's trade request from Cleveland back in February.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
It was it never said anything.

Speaker 9 (22:17):
About the organization itself other than I want to win
a Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
Thirty something days later, he resigned with the Browns.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
But I'm just trying to understand the logic of this,
the business side of this, and I'm sure you guys
have had the opportunity to ask Jerry tell us how
it makes sense waiting longer than signing he could have
signed Micah Parsons up in February when Miles Garrett signed
his deal or prior to TJ. I mean, he could

(22:46):
have saved a lot of money here. He could have
done that with Dak. I don't maybe CD as well.
But you know, here we are again with Micah. But
I just don't understand the business philosophy with that.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
So there's a couple of elements to that one.

Speaker 9 (23:00):
And I think one that we often forget in the
media is that the player waits too. Dak knew by
waiting on both of his recent contract negotiations that he
would make more.

Speaker 6 (23:11):
He didn't. You know, you go back to the first
contract that he signed.

Speaker 9 (23:14):
They offered him what Jared Goffin and Gosh, I forget
the other quarterback in Philadelphia that with Carson Wentz and
he passed on it, knowing that something better down the
road was going to come, and it did, and he
pet and he waited on this one and Ceedee Lamb
was not going to sign a contract until Justin Jefferson's
deal got done. Now did it take that lately the

(23:36):
lag time to get that.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
Deal done with ceed No?

Speaker 9 (23:39):
And should it be this hard to get something done
with Mike and no, but Jerry does not view this
as a way of Oh, I just took away two
million dollars in cap spase on this year, so no,
I can't get this player. He just doesn't. We can
throw the numbers in the math at him, and but
he can. He always believes that if I want to
get a guy, however good he is, I can create

(24:02):
the cap space on any of these deals and.

Speaker 6 (24:05):
Go get a guy. But again, the Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (24:07):
Don't view free agency the way some teams do, where
they go sign big name guys, so he just does
not think it's that big of a deal.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
I'm talking to todd Ard Sure, ESPN NFL Nation reporter.
He's been covering the Cowboys since two thousand and three.
The bigger picture question is how good is this team
in a division where you're the third best team right
now in your own division.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
I think they'll be better than people think.

Speaker 9 (24:33):
You have a rookie head coach, so there'll be some
growing pains there with Brian Schottenheimer. But when Dak has
been healthy and played a full season, the Cowboys have
been a playoff team and or a playoff contender. Granted
they've not gone to an NFC title game, not going
to a Super Bowl, all that stuff, But when Dak
has been healthy, they've played well. Now Mike, if he

(24:55):
misses games all that stuff, everything changes.

Speaker 6 (24:58):
A little bit.

Speaker 9 (24:59):
But there's also an element if is Micah not going
to play? Is he not going to earn twenty one
million dollars this year?

Speaker 6 (25:06):
Like?

Speaker 9 (25:06):
So eventually he will have to get on the field.
And I would also point out that in the Cowboys mind,
they've gone through this. They had a franchise Dak Prescott,
he played out his contract.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
They had a franchise to Marcus Lawrence. He played out
his contract.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
And that's what Jerry was essentially saying to us on
Saturday was he has under contract.

Speaker 6 (25:24):
We've seen guys play that their.

Speaker 9 (25:26):
Last years before, and he believes if they don't get
a deal, that's what will happen again. And the Cowboys
can use the franchise tag on on Micah in twenty
twenty six, twenty twenty seven, and even twenty twenty eight
if they don't get a deal, if they want to
go that ropes Jerry.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
We can talk about this again, Dan'd be great.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Just how important is winning to Jerry.

Speaker 9 (25:48):
That's a great question, and he'll always say it's at
the top of the mind. It's been If this is
the thirtieth year without a Super Bowl, We'll see what
happens this year. But I think there are people that
will say the Cowboys enjoy the limelight, enjoy the cash,
enjoy being the most notorious team in the league, maybe

(26:10):
more than winning, and that plays into Jerry's mindset.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
Sometimes.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
I think he wants to win. I don't think there's
a question of that. I think he wants to win
his way.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
They should do a thirty for thirty this year as
the thirtieth anniversary of the Cowboys and look back on
these thirty years or the previous twenty nine years of
what went right, what went wrong, all the different movements
and coaches. And I don't even know if Ryan Schottenheimer
can be a head coach. I mean, you're also putting

(26:42):
a rookie coach in this situation, and there's a lot
of things that just feels like we're not even looking
at the bigger picture of the Cowboys when they get
on the football field. It's all this ancillary.

Speaker 9 (26:54):
Stuff, right, And that's the issue, right that the focus
is away from the field from football, that football is
in always the most important thing when it should be.
I asked Brian Schottenheimer if he ever feels caught in
the middle during these situations, and he said, no, I'm
a guy who can see both sides, see all the angles,

(27:14):
and I'll communicate to Jerry and Steven, and I'll communicate
to Micah and the players, and so far he's he's
handled it well. He's obviously the son of a longtime
head coach, has seen a lot of things in his
time as an assistant coach, seeing a lot of things
when he was growing up. There's nothing like the Cowboys, though.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Have fun, Todd, I'll try. Thanks Todd Archer, he skedpn
NFL Nation reporter governed the Cowboys since two thousand and three. Yeah,
the bigger picture is, aren't any good Dylan, who's in
for Paul today? I told you to check DraftKings odds
of what are the odds of the Cowboys winning a
playoff game?

Speaker 5 (27:54):
So they don't have that specifically, but they have some
similar ones to miss the playoffs their minds to twenty Okay,
not a lot of hope They're to lose in the
wild Card round plus four hundred. That's a pretty good
bet if they do make the playoffs, Oka historically speaking,
to lose in the divisional round plus eight hundred, to

(28:15):
losing the conference championship game plus two thousand, and then
if you really want to waste some money, to lose
in the Super Bowl plus forty five hundred, and to
win the Super Bowl plus plus five.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Thousandhay Tom in North Carolina, Hi, Tom, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (28:33):
DP, I was listening to that SoundBite from Jerry Jones's
comments about Michaeh. Parsons and he did say, you know,
when you're guaranteeing around two hundred million, So I mean,
if you're doing the math, it's you know, that's a
little bit less. It's a five year extension, but it's
a little bit less than TJ Watt. So I'm wondering,

(28:55):
do you think Micah's deal is going to be all
guaranteed money around two hundred million.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
We don't know, but it feels like if I'm Michael
Parsons agent, that's what I want. Miles Garrett got four years,
one sixty, Max Crosby three years, one oh six point five.
TJ Watt three years, won twenty three. Parsons said to
make twenty one point three million on the fifth year option. Here,
I mean you could always, you know, continue to push

(29:22):
this a little bit and see if Dak is willing
to give up twenty one million dollars. Everybody who thinks
about hey, he should sit out. They should all go
back to Le'Veon bell. Hey, you set out for the Steelers.
How did that go? Yes, the Jets were dumb enough
to give you some money, but you don't make up

(29:42):
that money. And it was I don't know, it might
have been fifteen million dollars. But Michael Parsons isn't going
to lose twenty one million dollars. And Jerry knows if
they're going to make the playoffs, if they're going to
have any hope this year, you got to have Michael
Parsons in there. Yeah, Dylan, I.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Think in trade seems like a much better strategy than
holding out for the like same end result ultimately, but
without any real downside.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Well, he's holding in and he doesn't he doesn't want
to leave the Cowboys. Now, I don't believe that for
a second. Once again, this is part of negotiations it
feels like now Terry McLaurin, I don't know how that
plays out, and that's a really big deal as well.
It's just not going to get the attention because he
plays for the Commanders. Dylan in Maine, Hi, Dylan, what's

(30:31):
on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (30:33):
DP, I'm just wanting to tell you about a great
golf course in Maine. I know you have a hall here.
It's the Tannis Golf Course in Basseleboro. It's thirty six holes.
It's a great course. But I wanted to talk about
like Stephen Jones seems like he doesn't get any of
the blame at all, and he's not really a young
guy and he needs to step up to his dad

(30:55):
and be like you need to like stall Jerry.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
I don't know if that's going to happen. Steven doesn't
get any credit or any blame because it doesn't feel
like he's really involved in the decision making. I'm assuming
he is, But Jerry takes the air out of the room.
This is about Jerry Jones. He didn't want to share anything.
Poppy in Rochester, Hi, Poppy, what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (31:21):
Hi?

Speaker 12 (31:21):
Then the first time a long time, I disagree with everything.
You guys triticize Tom Brady, not as Tom Brady, but
he's involved with in soccer. Okay, the European champions PG
from friends are owned by oil people. Liverpool, one of
the greatest things in the world, is owned by the

(31:42):
Red Sox people. The Manchester United is owned by the
Tampa Bay people. It is how much you know. Chelsea
is owned by the La Do Just people. I was
at the Club World Cup final the Giants Stadium eighty
one thousand. But what I disagree what your comments made

(32:03):
you guys said, was that how much Dom Brady knows
about soccer. It's not how much you know, it's the
money that talks. He has the money he puts up
by the club. He put the best people, They know
the business and they're going to have a successful operation.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Well, he doesn't have the money anywhere near the money
of these other people you're talking about. And I don't
know if you know, the Glazier family allowed people to
follow them and they go, we don't know anything about soccer,
but once, once we build up this team, we're gonna sell.
Like his pr approach to this is what we're commenting on.

(32:40):
So thank you for the phone call Yese.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
I think Poppy said it in there because I think
everything that he says is right. He said, you put
the best people in place to make the decisions. Well,
the way that this is being presented is that we're
making the decisions. We're the guys that know how to win.
Tom is the guy who's gonna we need a new
coach because this coach isn't the right one. How the
hell does he know that? They're trying to run over
tactics with him at one point, and uh, like you know,

(33:06):
it's very clear. It's like, oh so this guy needs
to stand over here, Okay, got it?

Speaker 6 (33:10):
Got it?

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Like it just doesn't. It's really not translating. He's really
not connecting with the material at all. I think that
it's the more about it has nothing to do with money.
It's more about the way it's being presented as this
hands on approach to their ownership. That seems wrong.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Yeah, and if you look at Wrexham, you know Rob
and Ryan they never said they knew soccer.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
There's actually a moment in the in one of the
episodes when it's the Wrexham Birmingham game where they're all
talking about their experiences like yeah, so we own Rexham, Yeah,
we own Birmingham and they're like, oh yeah, we're down
in the locker room all the time, and they're like
Rob is like really, oh no, no, we don't do that. No, Like, well,
we'll be in there and be like hey guys, all right,
what's up? Like, do what you do? We're gonna go watch,

(33:54):
but we're very hands off because we don't know anything
about the game.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
And that should be the approach of Tom is be
one of the silent owners in there. But you can
be there for your team and your community. But if
you don't know soccer, then you hire people who do
know soccer.

Speaker 13 (34:12):
Yes, Marvin, that's the funny thing. You say the same
thing about NFL owners.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Yeah, it's the guy who gets too involved where we go,
Will you just be an owner? Just just being an owner.
It's when they go, you know, I'm going to make
this draft pick. Wait what No, No, we don't want
Johnny Manziel. Yes we do. No, No, we don't know. Okay,
all right, we won't take it.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
Still, there's an episode you know that show the Studio, Yeah,
where like Seth Rogan, the studio head goes to the
set and just like derail everything, that's just the same
version of this.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Yeah, he's in the wrong place at the wrong time,
and you know that's where you go. I'm going to
go out there on the movie set and then you
go out there and you're like, uh, what are you
doing here? You have no idea what you're doing? Do
you no take a break? We will give you our

Best and Worst of the weekend, Todd, I'll start with
you best of the weekend.

Speaker 14 (35:35):
Some questionable pitching and two games Friday night, but exciting
home team comebacks which were Marlin scored three runs at
the bottom of the ninth to beat the Yankees thirteen
to twelve. And after trailing nine to nothing in the first,
the Rockies came back against the Pirates seventeen to sixteen
with five runs at the bottom of the ninth in
that game, some nice pitching. Worst of the weekend. Also
on Friday, another incident of a sex toy being thrown

(35:57):
onto the court ring a WNBA game in the past week,
this time of contest between Golden State and Chicago. Can
we all grow up a little bit?

Speaker 2 (36:03):
People? Thank you? Todd all Right, Seaton best and worst
for the weekend. My best of the weekend.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
I went up to a soccer game in Burlington, Vermont
against Vermont Green. It was Vermont Green versus Vallard FC
from Seattle, Washington. It's USL League two, which is like
really a college summer league. Atmosphere was absolutely insane. There
was probably like three thousand people in the stands maybe
and then another two thousand around the fence just watching

(36:31):
for this final. Vermont Green ends up winning in stoppage time.
This guy, Maxie Kissel, gets the game winning goal. The
crazy thing about Maxie Kissel for Vermont Green game winning goal.
He also got the game winning goal about nine months
earlier for Vermont UVM to win the national championship. So
he got two game winning goals for two national titles,

(36:53):
all within about nine months. Absolutely spectacular environment, great place,
great fan base. My worst of the weekend was actually
being slightly disappointed in Tom Brady. Is it kind of
ruined my night where I was just like, oh no,
there's not three more episodes of Tom being like this
is it? I hope that story arc works out.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
So this is Tom the soccer owner. Yeah. In Birmingham
the Blues Marvin.

Speaker 13 (37:19):
My best of the weekend. Our team, the Milwaukee Brewers
racked up sixty fifth sixty fifth fifty six hits in
three games against the Washington Nationals during their sweep. Worst
of the weekend the Las Vegas Aces. They lost to
the Minnesota Leaks by fifty three points.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
That's not good. Oh no, it's not good. Dylan Best
and worst, All.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
Right, Dan, my best. Cameron Young gets his first PGA
Tour win after seven runner up finishes. He won by
six strokes at the Windham Championship. And worst, which is
kind of a best. I didn't really do any real
damage to my ankle, but I.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Kind of look like a coward. Now, Oh you were
playing this. We had to get a wheelchair, and no,
I don't know if I could make it. I gotta
cook on Friday, meet Friday. So I'm checking in with
Dylan over the weekend because I thought, all right, being
a you know, responsible boss, I should at least find
out if he needs surgery. Did something break it's a

(38:14):
bad sprain. Do I need to outfit the place, you know,
for the handicap? Actually yeah, but we have a footage
of your watching on Peacock. You can see that was
the tragic pickleball accident with Dylan. Turns out really nothing

(38:35):
that serious with you.

Speaker 5 (38:36):
A ligament strain, maybe.

Speaker 6 (38:39):
It is.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
It is tough to like I said to Dylan, like, dude,
you should have come in wearing a brace or something
today because there's no swelling, no bruise, just your word,
trust me.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Trust me, it really hurts.

Speaker 14 (38:51):
I think you were.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Secretly hoping that maybe you had, like you know, a
light Yeah, yeah, something that would be like, Okay, that
was worth all the drama on Friday.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
I didn't say fracture.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
They just said airline. Airline.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
Well see, I'm actually I'm like, it would make me
seem worse that I got that hurt playing like a
very casual game of pickleball.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
So I don't think I would fake a bad injury
from that.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
But I mean, or maybe I just bounce back really quick. Dan,
I'm like elastic man speaking of somebody who likes to
inflate their entries.

Speaker 14 (39:29):
Hey Todd, it wasn't like plant or fasterion eye is.
We can't put any pressure all down on your heel.
We're just literally for a week we're supposed to be
on the.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Same side here playing Paul in Iowa. Hi Paul, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (39:43):
Hey Dan? Well, I have two bets of the weekend,
but first you should ask Dylan if a pickleball injury
comes with an aar P card. But my two bets
are over the Over the weekend, I was down in
Branson and got to play Gary Player's thirteen whole walking course,
Mountain Top golf Course on the bluff, great views of

(40:03):
the lake, everything else. If you're down in Branson, go
to Big Cedar. It's awesome. Other best was I watched
Unreal on Netflix. Very interesting look behind the scenes of WWE.
You get to learn a lot about John Cena's heel
turned decision and what went into that and how long
it took to get there really interesting and Triple H

(40:25):
is moving the company in a good direction.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
All right, Thank you Paul John and Cincinnati Hi John,
by hey DP.

Speaker 15 (40:34):
Sorry I called him before and I guess my phone
had about the same luck as the Speedway Classic, which
was my best and worst. That's being that I was
down there with my seventy four year old dad and
my sixteen year old son. It was great. The worst
was the event itself, especially on Saturday. I don't know
if you guys followed on Twitter or not, but the

(40:54):
crowds were there was not enough room for the people.
They ran out of food, they ran out of merchandise.
Meant line was two hours long. The signs to get
in and out were terrible. They got about fifteen minutes
of Baseball Man, which begs me to question, did they
if they didn't start that game on Saturday, would their
attendance record have counted, because it certainly felt like they

(41:16):
got that first pitch in at about ten o'clock just
so they could say they got the record. Because the
game on Sunday did not have nearly as many people
in attendance, they had, allow you to bring food in
on Sunday because they were out Saturday night. So it
really felt like the fans and attendants were the least
considered by MLB and that whole event.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Yeah, I haven't read up enough on that, but it
did feel like, one way or another, we're going to
start this game. Yes, ton dah.

Speaker 14 (41:43):
They heard there were really long lines for concessions, like
an hour and a half to get through. They run
out of cheese for the nachos, run out of hot dogs,
or just a total disaster.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Thank you, Ton, Welcome. Coming up, we'll talk to Brent
