Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Two on this Wednesday, Dan and The Dane's Dan Patrick Show.
Paul and I were just talking. You get to Wednesday,
should you still be talking about the games that happen
on Sunday and Monday or do you start turning your
attention to the weekend. Now, you do have Dallas against
the Giants coming up tomorrow night, so a lot of
programs will probably already be looking ahead to that matchup.
(00:26):
And it just feels like there's a little social unrest
there with the Cowboys, and it's been there not just
this season, but you can go back to last season
as well, and people getting paid. Michael Parson's gonna have
to wait another year? Does everybody love dak Ceedee Lamb
is apologized for throwing a temper tantrum on the football field,
(00:47):
And now you have this game on the road after
you've been embarrassed, your defense has been flat out embarrassed,
and everybody is running the football. Running the football always
felt like it's me against you, and this is where
it's just you take away somebody's heart. You know, when
you throw a deep pass and it's okay, that's an
(01:08):
unbelievable touchdown. When you run the football and continue to
run the football, and we even tell you we're going
to continue to run the football, that to me tells
me a lot about the two different teams that Dallas
is manhandled right now. Teams are letting them know we're
running the football. And the fact that you should have
(01:28):
gone after Derrick Henry. I know it's always about, well,
you can't sign everybody, but if you're going to have
a running game, or at least the presence of a
running game in play action, give me a running back
that I respect. I don't respect Zeke Elliott anymore, but
Derrick Henry I still do, and so do the Cowboys
after that game this past weekend. But the Giants against
(01:50):
the Cowboys coming up tomorrow night eight seven, seven to three.

Tommy John will join us coming up here in a
little bit, New pole question, Seaton, Out with the old,
in with the new. Let's clean up the old pole
(02:33):
results old pole?
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Dan Umm, oh, that's what they call it. Franchise in
the worst shape the Panthers, the White Sox, the A's
or other. Right now, the White Socks have about forty
five percent of that vote, with the Oakland A's not
far behind at thirty five. Those two baseball franchises not
doing well. Panthers, I think.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
People are a little more up on them then, okay,
recency bias two. They won, and apparently it's not all
about the franchise. It could have been about Bryce Young
not playing well.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yes see, that's actually a preview of the upcoming Dowur rankings.
Week three team that won that's still dowered. The Week
three team that won but is still dowered. I don't
know if doward is a real word, but it is
now for the Dower rankings that'll be in a dour
(03:25):
from now. That'll be in almost a dour from now.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Dow from now, yeah, ye hours from now all right
eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot

you had Padre's clinch a playoff spot. Shoho Tani remains
fifty three fifty five. The White Sox held off in
for me at least for a night. Astros clinched the West.
(03:49):
The Orioles clinch a postseason spot as well. Mike Tomlin
continues to keep it vague on his quarterback plan and
basically stop trying to ask me this question because I'm
not going to answer it for you. What more do
you need to see it from Justin?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Why not name him the starting quarterback on for because
there's no need. I explained to you the variables of
the week. It has not changed. He's going to walk
in this building with that mindset tomorrow, and so I
really there's no need to Sometimes in this business man,
there's a myriad of complex decisions that need to be made.
I've learned to make them when it's appropriate and it's
(04:27):
not necessary as we sit here right now. When Russ
gets to an appropriate point of health, and we have
a decision to make, I'll make it, and I'll announce it,
and I'll be really transparent about it. But until then,
I don't care how many ways you guys asked me.
I got no intentions of making the decision. That's unnecessary
at this juncture.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I know. But it's the job of the media to
ask you the question, coach, whether you want to answer
it or not, that's their job. Bill Belichick on Pat
McAfee's show says everyone's worried about Pittsburgh's quarterback situation. They
might have the best one in the league, which is
not correct because you got two quarterbacks who their previous
teams didn't want them. Now, if you say because they
(05:07):
don't make any money, okay, that's true. They make a
combined five million dollars. Are either one of them starters,
are either one of them franchise quarterbacks. That means that
you don't have one of the best situations in the league.
The ultimate advantage in the NFL is the ability to
play to the strengths of your roster, and nobody knows
(05:29):
this better than the Cleveland Browns because they were built
around being physical, punching teams in the mouth, running the football,
play action, capitalizing on big plays. And then they brought
in to Shaun Watson. Well, things have changed because over
the first three games so far, Deshaun Watson has thrown
the ball at least thirty four times in each game,
but he's only averaging one hundred and eighty five yards
(05:52):
through the air. Meanwhile, now I know they don't have
Nick Chubb, but they used to be a once dominant
ground attack. Now they're in the bottom ten. Losing Nick
Chubb certainly didn't help that number. But you're looking for
an identity and Cleveland doesn't have an identity right now.
And you're in a division right now where Pittsburgh is undefeated,
(06:12):
which is a surprise. The Bengals their situation, that's a surprise,
and then you have the Steelers or Steelers Browns Ravens.
Ravens still the favor to win that division. But you
got to kind of hang on there and maybe you
figure this out at some point. Cleveland has too much talent.
(06:33):
But I'll go back to Deshaun Watson. He just doesn't
seem inspired or confident, comfortable, and it starts with him.
Plus he's been getting hit quite a few times whether
sacked or getting hit hurries, and it's hard to get comfortable.
If you're going to throw the ball at least thirty
four times, you got to be comfortable hopefully with two
(06:53):
thirds of those throws. And he doesn't look comfortable at all.
But the Cleveland Browns looking for an idea identity, And
you start to think about this. With a lot of teams,
most of them have an identity, like you kind of
know what your style is and who you are. But
then that's a team that should have an identity and
does not.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
Yes, Paul I going back to the hour one poll
question the seat and had I would throw the Browns
maybe in there. They feel hopeless. Their quarterback can't play
football that well anymore, which was the one thing he
had going He's locked in for like four years at
a gigantic guaranteed contract. I think, oh man, I'm trying
to be overreactionary here. The brown situation feels worse than
(07:35):
the Panthers. The Panthers have some flexibility at the quarterback position.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, but you know what, going forward, what's the Panthers philosophy?
That's another team that doesn't have an identity, like who
are they? Their identity is their owner, and that's not
a good identity to have right now. You know, you
get Andy Dalton playing well, the Bengals are coming to town.
Is form team? Can you win a couple of games?
(08:03):
How many? How many skill position players can you name
on the Carolina Panthers, I'm out Marvin Adam yep, well
he's not playing, he's out or on the roster. I'm
gonna give that. I'm gonna give that to you. On
a technicality. I think it's a blue not a blue oop.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
They I mean they lack an identity there, and they
used to have, you know, Luke Keakley, you'd have Christian
McCaffrey there. I mean, you had guys that you'd go
all right, you know, a fun team, gritty, gutty, yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
But the Panthers owner is dislikable. They're franchise and the
people who are there aren't the Browns. When they signed
Sean Watson, they went from this lovable team that everyone
wanted to see someday win to you signed him. Now
we don't even root for you anymore. They're kind of
in this I don't know, flux of dislike ability in
the NFL where no one really cares what they stink.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Well, owners did not like the owner Jimmy Haslin with
the Browns when he gave Deshaun Watson that contract, and uh,
just the fact that you bring you know, hey, we
can look past all this other stuff. We just need
a quarterback and we basically have to bribe you to
take this job in Cleveland.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
Yes, Marv is knowing who the owner is a bad
sign for a franchise.
Speaker 8 (09:26):
Well, Jerry Dolan, Sniper.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Raft, Robert Craft, Yeah, I don't think it's a bad sign.
You know Arthur Blank when he goes to the sidelines
and I always go, they're gonna lose. Every time I
see the Falcons owner on the sidelines, I go, there's
somehow gonna lose this game. But he's down there and he's,
(09:51):
you know, my team and cheering it on.
Speaker 7 (09:53):
Yes, Mart, Speaking of Arthur Blank, he put himself in
the Ring of Honor this past week.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
We forgot, oh congratulation that on Monday.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Congratulations.
Speaker 8 (10:03):
I would have loved to bet at that meeting.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
I would like to nominate me. Anybody oppose the owner. No,
no unanimous congratulations. Congratulations going in the Ring of honor.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Imagine that meeting.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
What's next on the agenda?
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Well, we have a proposal to put uh, mister Blank
in the Ring of Honor.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Okay, oh, so we have to figure out filling the blank.
Oh okay, okay. So mister Barkowski, no no, no, mister
Blank is going is going in the ring?
Speaker 9 (10:32):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Okay, Gerald Riggs is not no, no, no, no, Yes, it's
Arthur Blank.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
You know, we're I don't think we're giving this enough attention.
You can't do that for yourself unless you I mean
you should absolutely have to have like Robert Kraft could
do it for himself. He's got a bunch of rings
for the fans. No one's gonna complain. You can't put
yourself in the Ring of Honor. I mean technically you can,
but you can't.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
You know what, I think, I'm going to start a
ring of honor on this show, and I'd like to
first Balanti in the in the Dan Patrick Show Ring
of Honor. Okay wow, And then there'll be other people
that you know, maybe will you know put in the
Ring of honor here, maybe one a year, So this
is my year, and then we'll have three more chances
(11:17):
for everybody.
Speaker 10 (11:19):
Who if you can only put in one a year,
and it could be you know, I'd have to factor
in the back room guys, and you know, the dan
out of the year.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
That doesn't mean that you get in, but uh, you
were going to have a Ring of Honor, and I'd
like to nominate me. Anybody opposed to me going into
the Ring of honor.
Speaker 9 (11:44):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (11:45):
That's how the art of blank meeting with.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Thank you, thank you setan lock.
Speaker 11 (11:51):
But I understand the show's name your first ballot?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah, yeah, How badly does Robert Kraft want to get
into the Hall of Fame after Jerry Jones got in?
I gotta believe there's some behind the scenes wheeling Delon
working the room getting Robert Kraft into the Hall of
Fame after Jerry Jones goes in. Yes, Mark, Yes, because.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
If I'm Robert Kraft, I'm going Jerry Jones is in
because of Jimmy Johnson, Yeah, and him being the GM
and the coach.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Well, Robert Kraft's going, uh, wait a minute, you're in
because of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Correct, true, thank you, Mark? Yeah, Paul.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
You know how when they put people in the Hall
of Fame, they do those videos where like here's Joe
Thomas in his hotel room and all a sudden they
open the door, that big guy Baker from the Hall
of Fame is there and Joe Thomas breaks down. Is
there a video when Arthur Blank's being told he's going
into the Falcons Ring of Honor? Does he he gets
emotional pain, emotion as if he didn't concoct it?
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Oh what me?
Speaker 3 (13:00):
He knocks on the door and opens it and he's
standing on the other side, holog what do.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
You mean it by who he did?
Speaker 4 (13:06):
He is?
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Or maybe we're maybe we're looking at this wrong way.
Maybe some middle management guy for the Falcons wanted to
make a name for himself and said, I've got an idea.
Let's surprise mister Blake suck up. But that's how you
suck up.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Maybe it was Ryan suck Up who did this. Let
me see, let me get to Marcus and Jacksonville. Hey Marcus,
once again, Tommy John will join us, coming up here
in a little bit, Hey Marcus.
Speaker 12 (13:33):
Oh no, Dan, I'm gonna get right into it. My
Jacksonville Jaguars are not good good. I threw my threw
my Trevor Lawrence Jersey into the fireplace after the third
touchdown was scored on Monday night. I'm still a fan,
but I've taken away their access to my emotions.
Speaker 13 (13:48):
This debacle of.
Speaker 12 (13:49):
A franchise is not deserved anymore. I wanted to make
a point about Trevor Lawrence getting a Hall Pass as well.
I think that part of the reason people aren't as
hard on him as they should be is probably because
of the other quarterbacks super drafted in twenty twenty one.
And I'll take you off the air with that.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
All right, Yeah, I mean, I do think because you're
not in a big media market, shows play the hits.
It's no different than a radio station playing the hits.
And that's what they're doing. They're playing the hits. Trevor
Lawrence and the Jags, you're not playing the hits. You're
going to play the hits with Mahomes, chiefs Kelsey. You're
going to do that with the Cowboys. You're going to
(14:28):
do that, Steelers, Packers, Aaron Rodgers, and the jet It's
on a It's like a merry go round that nobody
else gets on. That's what happens. That's probably reason why
that Trevor Lawrence is under the radar as far as
criticism goes Joe in Michigan. Hi Joe, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 6 (14:48):
Hi?
Speaker 14 (14:48):
Dan?
Speaker 13 (14:48):
I just calling about the dappleganger. If you guys look
up the old Colonel Flag Edgar Winner on MASH years ago.
He looks just like you.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
And your Edgar Winter the musician.
Speaker 13 (15:05):
No, he was, he played. He played Colonel Flag on
MASH years ago.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
All right, PAULI, do you have Colonel Flag? Does he
look like me? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I'm with this one. He was a recurring character on MASH.
He was like this spy type guy who was very goofy,
and he hands him though. He's a handsome fellow. Okay,
he passed away years ago, but he was a recurring
character on Mash the TV show.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Okay, all right, let me take a break. Tommy John
will join is coming up? More phone calls? Is well,
it's almost seventeen after the hour Dan Patrick Show.

Tommy John, he spent twenty six years in Major League Baseball,
won two hundred and eighty eight games. He has a
podcast called Rubbing Elbows with Tommy John. His website Tommy
John twenty five dot net. His number was twenty five.
His Facebook group is Tommy dot John Cooperstown, which hopefully
we get him into Cooperstown. Tommy, good to see you again.
(16:13):
You have the oddest type of fame. When did you
embrace that your famous kind of for Tommy John surgery?
Speaker 14 (16:22):
Oh god, it was a long time after I was
out of baseball and everybody Tommy John surgery, Tommy John surgery,
Tommy John surgery. Again, I didn't name it Tommy John surgery.
Doctor Joe did. And so he's the one that stuck
me with that.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Do you know what it was called before you had
the surgery.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
It wasn't called because it had never been done.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
But like they just said, you're getting Owner surgery. Like
when Doc getting Obi.
Speaker 14 (16:56):
The name of the surgery was Owner collateral ligament rept
placement with the Paul Meyris longest tender. And after they
got through and I survived, you know, then doctor Joe
BET's most orthopedics do went out and talked to other
doctors and he said, I just got tired of saying
(17:18):
that that's such a long drawn out name. And I
came down with, you know the surgery I did on
Tommy John. You know the surgery I did on And
then they cut it down to you know, Tommy John surgery.
Why there it is?
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Did you almost not do it?
Speaker 6 (17:36):
No?
Speaker 14 (17:36):
Because I wanted to catch again and the only way
I was going to pitch again was to have the surgery.
Speaker 6 (17:44):
Maybe, how did it catch again?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
How did it feel after you had your surgery? Was
there any difference in how you pitched, or you know,
how hard you knew, or any improvement.
Speaker 14 (17:54):
I have no idea how hard I threw before surgery,
because thank god, we didn't have have radar guns. And
you see guys out there now with radar guns that
don't know squat about pitching. But they go, oh, man,
look at that's he's good. And he's good because he's
got numbers on the gun.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Well yeah, and we've we've hatched a whole new generation
of throwers, not pitchers. And it almost feels like, hey,
if I blow out my arm, I can always have
Tommy John surgery or multiple Tommy John surgeries.
Speaker 14 (18:30):
Well, there's four or five guys that have had the
surgery twice and uh, you know, I don't know the
wherewithal about that, but.
Speaker 6 (18:45):
Obviously they were doing something wrong.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Does the surgery or your name attached to this surgery
help or hurt your Hall of Fame case?
Speaker 14 (18:56):
I think it hurts it because when you look at
two A and I had one hundred and eighty eight
no decisions, the most in baseball history. So if you
take two hundred and eighty eight wins and one hundred
and eighty eight no decisions, there's a lot of wins
and those no decisions.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Well, if you get in, and I hope you do,
and I've said this before, you had whatever five hundred
decisions when you pitch your era and Perry respectable. But
can we have instead of your bust or a plaque,
can we just have you know, maybe the arm? Yeah,
your arm. Can we do a statue of your arm
if you get into the Hall of Fame, Tommy?
Speaker 14 (19:41):
Yeah, that somebody will come up with that. But you know,
I have the cast that doctor job put on me
after the surgery, and my wife Cheryl, and I decided
that we wanted to donate it to a charity, and
we don't to the Smithsonian Institute. So if you go
(20:04):
to the Smithsonian and go to their sports Hall of
Records or whatever, you'll see the Tommy John cast autograph
by all the Dodgers, then Scully, Jerry Dogget Danny Murtaw
because back back in that period of time, I wanted
(20:26):
to go sit on the bench during the ballgame, and
you had to get the okay from the opposing manager.
So I go up to him with my arm in
the cast, and I said, Danny, I just want to
sit on the bench and watch the game.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Can I?
Speaker 14 (20:42):
He said two things. Promise me you won't go out
on the field during a fight and hit somebody with
the cast. And I said okay, And he said, secondly,
I want to sign it. So the first person to
sign my cast was Danny Murtau. It's burg Pirates.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
How soon after your surgery did the second pitcher go
in for surgery?
Speaker 14 (21:09):
The second pitcher was Brent Strong and Stramy is a
longtime pitching coach with many teams. But I think it
was like a year later, year and a half later.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Well, you're Neil Armstrong. So Stramy is the second person
on the moon. You know, I'm try we yes we
remember you. I thought contributions to the game. Now, I
would have thought to eighty eight would be enough to
get into the Hall of Fame. But if I attached
contributions to the game, do you feel like you've contributed
(21:45):
to the game because of the surgery that you had?
Speaker 14 (21:48):
Oh my god, yes, I'm with you. If TO eighty
eight can't get you into the Hall of Fame, then
I don't want in. I'll just stay outside and and
and look, I don't mean that.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
But.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Don't say that.
Speaker 10 (22:09):
Now.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
There's a campaign to get you in next next year.
Speaker 14 (22:14):
Well, you know, here's what my wife, Cheryl believes this.
My number was twenty five, and if I go into
the Hall of Fame, it'll be twenty twenty five. And
what's the other twenty five? Oh the address of the
(22:34):
Hall of Fame is twenty five Main Street, Cooperstown.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
I like that. I think that's awesome. But you know what,
if you're not successful, then we don't have Tommy John surgery.
So that's that's where you won twenty games. I think
you had one twenty one season. I think after you
had Tommy John surgery. Is that sound right?
Speaker 6 (22:58):
After surgery?
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (23:00):
I think I had three.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Oh, you didn't have any prior to surgery.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Oh okay, because I think he won ten games the
following year, and I thought you I was ten and ten.
Speaker 6 (23:12):
Yeah, I was ten and ten, and then.
Speaker 14 (23:16):
That was seventy six, seventy seven, seventy eight.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
I may have squeezed twenty out of there.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
To people ask to see your elbow your arm when
they meet.
Speaker 6 (23:30):
You all the time, what's it and what's you know?
And I make them, I make them pay me.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Is there a scar? Uh?
Speaker 14 (23:43):
There was a very visible scar and now it's kind
of pulled back, and uh it's you got really got
a look to see it.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Also. But Tommy, I don't know if he's proud of this.
He managed to make three errors on one play? That
was what when you were with the Yankees?
Speaker 6 (24:06):
Yeah, yeah, it takes quite a few or to do that.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
How did you commit three errors on one play?
Speaker 6 (24:18):
They hit the.
Speaker 14 (24:18):
Ball back to me a mean between the mound and
first base, and I come charging in and I picked
the ball up, drop it, pick it up, drop it,
pick it up, drop it.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
Then why I did what I did?
Speaker 14 (24:32):
I picked the ball up and I underhanded through it
to first base and threw it by the first basement
way out in the left field. Well, that's air number two.
And the right fielder gets it and throws it in
and misses the cutoff man, and I'm just standing there
and I pick it up and they go home, and
I turned and I fired it by the catcher'szir like that,
(24:55):
and that's air number three.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Well, congratulations.
Speaker 14 (25:00):
You gotta if you're going to go down in in
baseball history, go go down doing something good.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
But you were around big personalities, like what's your favorite story,
whether it's in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, where you
run into a celebrity or a player.
Speaker 14 (25:19):
I've got two quick ones. I'm going out to the car.
This is with the Dodgers, because Yankees the only people
that will go out to the ball game with the mob.
Speaker 6 (25:34):
The mob.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Oh okay, you you ran into the mob.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
Oh yeah, because I had Italian friends.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
That okay.
Speaker 14 (25:46):
But I'm I'm going I'm leaving the ballpark and I
had just fetched that day, and I'm going to the
car and I.
Speaker 6 (25:55):
Hear Tommy, Tommy, Tommy.
Speaker 14 (25:59):
And somebody waving a turn around and I go, holy,
it's Carry Grant And he comes up and you know,
how am I? You know? But when I was with
the Dodgers, I'm sitting on the bench and the clubhouse
kid comes down and he said, Tommy, you're wanted up
(26:20):
in the Losorda's office. Well, I turn and I look
to my right, and the Losorta's down on the end
of the bench standing. So I go up and the
door's locked, and I knock on the door and the
door opens, and here standing in his tidy whiteies as
Don Rickles, and.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Come in and lock the door. And I said, Rickles,
I'm not that kind of a guy. I said, do
you think everybody just And he said, get in here.
Speaker 14 (26:52):
You puttson, and he said, look, you're the only guy
I could count on. He was going to be and
he wanted to be dressed properly. So I dressed him,
make sure all this stuff, and he leaves and he
pats me on the button. He said, I owe you Palt. Okay, fine,
(27:13):
Well we go out in the.
Speaker 6 (27:16):
First game of the World Series.
Speaker 14 (27:20):
I'm pitching, and I lose, and we don't play very well,
and the sword is coming in. So the next day,
get in here, get down here and set out. He said,
you guys play, yes, say you played terrible? You know what?
Speaker 6 (27:43):
He said.
Speaker 14 (27:43):
I went out and I called around and I got
the best sports psychologists in the world that's going to
work with you guys, and we go, oh see done.
So the door opens and then walks Rickles. He was
He just got everybody laughing and giggling. And so I'm
(28:07):
the clubhouse at Dodger Stadium was laid out alphabetic and
I'm right there with Bird Houghton, Charlie Huff, Tommy John
and he goes, you know, Bird Houton, Bert F and Hooton,
Charlie Huff, Charlie f and Huff, Tommy John, Tommy F
(28:29):
and John T's paid.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
And he went and the guy said, what did you do?
You know that he didn't rail.
Speaker 14 (28:38):
On you, And I said, oh, you're not going to
believe it.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
But we had a good time with Rickles.
Speaker 14 (28:45):
And the other guy that was really good to me
was a guy named Sinatra. Yeah, my mother was dying
of cancer and I wanted to get her down to
the cancer hospital in Houston, Texas, and so I was
making plans on chartering a plane to fly her down
(29:09):
and I get a call from Lesorta he said, Tommy,
Frank wants to Frank wants to bring his plane in
to Terre Haute and fly your mother down to Houston.
Speaker 6 (29:21):
It's on him and I went, oh that is how
nice is that? Well?
Speaker 14 (29:28):
My mother passed away before we could get the plane
there and get down. But I think, Frank, but that's
the way it was played for the Dodgers. You had Brickles,
you had Sinatra, you carry Grant, you had all these
people were up in the stands.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
He's Tommy John. His podcast Rubbing Elbows with Tommy John,
the website Tommy John, the number twenty five dot net,
and his Facebook group is Tommy dot John Cooper's Town.
I hope you get positive res Tommy. It's a long
time coming. And good luck with the campaign.
Speaker 14 (30:05):
Oh thank you much. Hey, could I say hi to
a seven year old boy that skipped school to watch
you and me. His name is Braxton Bent and he's
seven years old. He lives southern California. He's a huge
baseball fan. But he skipped school today specifically to watch
(30:26):
you and me.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
That's awesome.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
If yeah, that's great, Thank you, Thank.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
You, Tommy, good to see you. You got it, buddy,
So maybe twenty five and twenty five and the Adurresci
Cooperstown with twenty five in it as well, And this
is special Veterans Committee vote. I believe that he'll be
eligible for. But yeah, that's that's a lot of decisions,
(30:54):
Like if you say wins, like he had over five
hundred decisions with two hundred eighty eight wins two hundred
and thirty one losses. Crazy, crazy, yeah, pulling. I'm just
looking at it.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
And again I think because of the surgery and his name,
you don't pay attention to his career. I know I haven't.
I've been looking at his stats. He pitched four thy
seven hundred innings. He had one hundred and sixty two
complete games. There's guys who don't have ten in their career. Now,
I mean, it's really nuts. He had three twenty win seasons,
Like you said, after the surgery, that was like proof
(31:27):
of concept for the entire surgery.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
And if it didn't work, we wouldn't have Tommy John surgery.
Pitchers with at least two hundred and fifty career wins
not in the Hall of Fame. Roger Clemens had three
point fifty four. Obviously, we know the baggage there. Then
it's Tommy at two eighty eight, Jamie Moyer quietly with
two sixty nine, Justin Verlander two sixty one, he will
(31:50):
be in the Hall of Fame. Andy Pettitt two fifty six,
he will not get into the Hall of Fame. And
I think CC Sabathia maybe next. And I think this
is his first year of eligibility. I think he's going
to be a Hall of Famer. I think he's like
at two fifty one. I think that sounds right. All right,
let me take a break. More phone calls coming up
when we return. You know it, you love it. It's our
(32:12):
Dower rankings.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Right after this, be sure to catch the live edition
of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern
six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio
WAP Show.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Hey Tani went one for three with a ground rule
double in the Dodgers loss. Ninety five extra base hits
this season. That's the most in Dodger franchise history. The
previous Mark Babe Herman that was back in nineteen thirty.
The most extra base hits by any player since twenty thirteen.
That player in twenty thirteen is no longer in baseball,
(32:50):
had one of the crazy seasons, meteoric rises, and then
all of a sudden forgot how to hit. Marvin who
is said player?
Speaker 8 (33:00):
Yeah, so puak.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
No, no, I'll even give you the team Baltimore, Marvin
big crash.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
Davis?
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Was that Chris Chris Davis. Chris Davis. Yeah, Chris Davis
had ninety six, but that was he had an unbelievable
brief camp, like he was like whoa, and then all
of a sudden he got paid and then all of
a sudden, whoa, what happened?
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Yeah, Pauline, Yeah, Chris Davis got in the league in
two thousand and eight with Texas. It was kind of
a bounce around guy, a little average, little power. Then
he had fifty three home runs in twenty thirteen out
of nowhere. Yeah, led the league in homers and RBI,
third in MVP. Two years later hits forty seven and
now he's out of baseball.
Speaker 9 (33:52):
WoT of the day, day to day.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
This is the style of.
Speaker 7 (34:02):
The NEMET.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Out of the Day brought to you my openin America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Chris
Davis just came off the Orioles payroll last year. Time
to play NFL Dower Rankings. To have music for Doward,
we do. Seaton is your host for Dower Rankings. If
you'll explain to the audience.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Well, most people do Power rankings, and you know, teams
that are doing well, We're gonna go ahead and do
the Dower rankings teams maybe not doing so well this week.
Right now, We're gonna go with teams that won this
week but are still very high in the Dower rankings,
which means low in terms of the NFL Okay correight.
So if I was to say the well, this one's
(34:49):
maybe more controversial, I'll start with an easy one. The
Carolina Panthers. They won this week, but clearly they have
some struggles. Even though one person referred to them as
an offensive juggernaut this week, Wow, well they were they
were this week they kind of were. Yeah, that is
a dramatic turnaround.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yes, Yes. As the week goes on.
Speaker 9 (35:11):
I feel more and more bad for Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I really don't know.
Speaker 9 (35:15):
Nobody deserves that.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Who else is there?
Speaker 9 (35:18):
How about your New York Giants? They've got what five
turnovers in three games?
Speaker 2 (35:25):
They won, but.
Speaker 9 (35:28):
They can't seem to hold onto the ball. That's not
what they got.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
A wide receiver though, right, Yep.
Speaker 9 (35:34):
They still have Daniel Jones.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
No offense, Yeah, Daniel Dimes, Devin Singletary.
Speaker 9 (35:46):
AnyWho. How about the Denver Broncos they won?
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (35:53):
And how about the Baltimore Ravens. How don't I Do
you have any thoughts on any of the teams or no?
Speaker 5 (35:57):
I would like to jump in on the Broncos. I
would say they've gotten off the Dower rankings a little bit.
It feels like their quarterback has much improved. Bonix and
Morale's way high and it hasn't been a medium high
in Denver.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Yeah, I would feel a little better about Denver. I
think all of those teams, i'd feel a little better. Now.
Do I think that, you know, bigger picture they're going
to be successful? Probably not with the Panthers. In the Broncos,
he has Ton Dower.
Speaker 11 (36:27):
On the Colts and Eagles, two teams that have won,
especially the Eagles that's still with that team. You don't
know hit or miss Saquon. Can you count on that
every week? A coach that makes weird decisions. So I'm
thinking Indian especially Philly not buying in in spite of
the winning week, Breed.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Don't you have Tampa against the Eagles? Is that coming
up this week? Thank you to any other Dowur rankings
he has, Paul.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
The Jacksonville Jaguars. Horrible week for them. I think they're
entrenched in the Dower rankings as we speak.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
But were we looking at this as you won, but
you're part of the Dower rankings?
Speaker 9 (37:04):
Won, but you're still losing. Yeah you won? Did you
win this week?
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Jacks lost? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (37:10):
Yeah, I believe they got torched. Now.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
If we're doing more traditional Dour rankings, Jacksonville is certainly
right there in the bottom four. You have the do
you have Jacksonville? You have New England, New York, Carolina?
New York and Carolina appearing on both.
Speaker 9 (37:25):
Lists this week.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Cleveland west In Mark Marvin the Dolphins.
Speaker 8 (37:32):
They did not show up last week.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Okay, yeah, there's a few right in write in votes here?
Where did you not put.
Speaker 9 (37:41):
The Bengals on there?
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Right now? In terms of Dour rankings? Sure, yeah, you
can't have faith in them though, right yeah? Joe Burrow
said that, you know, we're not out of it. It'd
be interesting if he said we're out of it. Sometimes
you get these quotes and you go, oh, wow, no,
that's not interesting. If he had said it the other way, Yeah,
(38:04):
we're out of this, then I would pay attention to it.
Speaker 5 (38:07):
Yes, Paul, it does feel like people weirdly still believe
in the Bengals and don't believe in the Steelers when
their records are opposite.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Well, it's because you buy into one quarterback and I
don't think you buy into the other quarterbacks. And they've
got weapons in Cincinnati with t Higgins and Jamar Chase
t Higgins coming back. Their defense isn't anywhere near what
Pittsburgh's is. But I would think the skill position with
Burrow and the receivers would have them, you'd have some
(38:35):
confidence in them.
Speaker 8 (38:35):
Yes, Marvin, the Buccaneers dour a Baker.
Speaker 7 (38:39):
Maybe you should take a page from Tom Brady's book
Bulletin Board from Marvin.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Marvin Prince from the Dan Patrick Show
has this to say. Baker Mayfield used it as inspiration. Yes, Tom,
I think the Silver.
Speaker 8 (38:53):
And Black have some major issues.
Speaker 11 (38:55):
You got Antonio Pierce calling out to players, even though
I didn't mention specific names, if they were to bet
their business interests. You'll lose by two touchdowns to the Panthers,
even with a different quarterback in there. That's a problematic
division that has the chieftain it.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Thank you j A right any other anybody who watched
the Wide Receiver series, Yeah knows exactly who. There's only
one dude out there who's like, there's more of a
business decision than.
Speaker 8 (39:27):
He made no balls about his dislike or some place called.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
When he's there was like his whole part in an
episode was about how the team won, but they didn't
win the right way because he didn't touch the ball enough. Yeah,
we won, but it didn't look right, and it needs
to look right if we're really.
Speaker 9 (39:43):
Going to win.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
But this goes back to what RG three said yesterday.
As a quarterback, if you have that number one guy,
you must keep that number one guy happy, and sometimes
it can handcuff you with the plays you call or
when you do call play, you're looking in his direct
I still believe Baker Mayfield to the detriment of him
and the Browns locked in on OBJ and Cleveland, and
(40:06):
he wasn't even the best receiver on the team. RG
three brought up Patrick Mahomes with Tyreek Hill, Tyreek Hill leaves,
and Travis Kelcey doesn't you know, act like a wide
receiver diva, so he's able to spread the wealth.
Speaker 8 (40:23):
Yes, Marvin, you're seeing that with Josh Allen too.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Yeah, you're right with Stefan Diggs when he had the
telling quote, Hey, it's nice to have fun and not
have people worry about their stats.
