Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our two on this Tuesday, Dan and the
Dan Nets Dan Patrick Show come on in stay a while.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you downloading the app
our streaming partner, or listening on our great radio affiliates
around the country. This is kind of random, but I
just saw this the Jaguars depth chart Travis Hunter. Travis
Hunter is listed as a starter at wide receiver a
(00:33):
backup at cornerback. I thought it might be the other
way around, but are we Is the ratio going to
be the other way that it's going to be more
offense than defense for Travis Hunter.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Sound effects provided by Seaton.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Yes, Paul, I did see an article on that because
they had the same question you had, and they speculated
that he maybe covering the slot receiver and it's like
a starter non starter position where it could be like
forty plays, not a backup. That's speculation, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Well, it looks like he is one of three players
listed as a starting wide receiver on their first offensive
depth chart.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
This according to team officials.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
I have a problem with their depth chart now that
I look at this. According to their depth chart, the
Jaguars have three wide receivers starting, one running back, and
two tight ends. I'm doing the math, and that's too
many people. You can't have all those people starting. They
have two separate tight end positions starting.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Okay, but they haven't been very good recently, and maybe
they're petitioning to have twelve guys on the field as
opposed to eleven.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Twelfth Man, Yes, the twelfth Man.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program. We'll get phone
calls coming up. Operator Tyler's sitting by. Take your cars.
Sterling Sharp was going to join us yesterday. We lost
him and he apologized and he will join us coming
up next down. We will play fill in the blank
a little bit later on as well. The college football
(02:13):
poll is out and it's Texas and Ohio State. It's
one versus two to start the season, and we're a
little less than three weeks away. Penn State is third. Georgia,
Notre Dame, Clemson, Oregon, Alabama. Give me the next ten, Paul,
because I think that that is where it gets a
little more interesting. I'm not surprised with these teams at Clemson.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
I have.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I think Clemson can win the national title Alabama? Would
they lose four games last year?
Speaker 4 (02:45):
Yeah? They go into the season ranked eighth. I checked
back on this one. The last time Alabama was not
ranked in the top five to start the season. Wants
to guess bonus coverage the last time they were not
ranked in the top five to start the.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Season, Yes, Martin two thousand and nine.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
I'm gonna give you half a point. Two thousand and seven,
the second year of Nick Saban Oh, okay, and the
year after that they won the national title. Okay, that's
pretty low for them.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, uh, I see, so George's in there. Notre Dame Clemson, yeah, poling.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
The second ten rankings right now are Arizona State, Illinois,
South Carolina, Michigan, Ole, miss SMU, Florida, Tennessee, and Indiana.
They were eleven and two last year.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Indiana, Okay, so it feels like that spillover from last
year where they were successful, got to play in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
SMU had a really good year. Arizona State.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
No, no cam skataboo though he's with the Giants all right.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Be fun.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Getting a couple of feels like every generation Illinois gets
in there. Yeah, but yeah, that'd be good. A lot
of fun. Feels like it's wide open. Paulie asked me
in the first hour, if I gave you Ohio State, Texas,
and Penn State to win the national title, where you
(04:13):
got everybody else, I'll take everybody else. It just feels
like there's some there's some good teams. I don't know
if there's a great team, but I think there's some
really good teams there.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
All right. Poll question for hour two is gonna be
what seedon?
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Well, yeah, along those lines we put up there, this
year's national champion college football will be either Texas, Ohio State,
Penn State, or other. Interesting note here is that we're
getting a lot of Penn State lols responding to that,
which I just for some reason really tickled me. Like
(04:50):
Penn State loll. Well, they have a really good quarterback
this year. I mean he was there last year. Drew
Alar is good quarterback.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
But with James Franklin, it always feels like there's one
game where it just doesn't go your.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Way and it proves to be costly. Let's see they
have our audience has sixty eight percent of choosing other Okay,
of those three.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah, I'm with two. I'm with two. Do you have
a pull question for hour two?
Speaker 5 (05:22):
I think we got to roll with this one for
a bit. Okay, yeah, yah yah. Responses to it are
kind of hilarious.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Yeah, Paul, you will like this about Penn State, or
at least appreciate this if you're a loler. In the
James Franklin era, they've always finished the season ranked lower
than their preseason expectations, Like they were expected to be
sixth in the preseason, Poul, they finished twelfth, and so
on and so forth.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Paul and Iowa leads us off second hour high Paul,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 6 (05:51):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (05:51):
Dan? Well, yeah, I'm in the loll category there. But
I was listening to your conversation with Brent Musburger yesterday,
and it may me think what players could make their
respective Hall of Fame just for a contribution to the game.
No stats, no trophies. They did something significant and that's it.
(06:11):
So I thought of Reggie White introducing modern free agency
to the NFL, managed Genobili bringing the Euro step KG
was the first prep to pro in twenty years.
Speaker 8 (06:23):
This kind of stuff along that lines.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
If you have any examples, well, the NFL doesn't do that.
The contributions to the game. They have the Pete Roselle
Award that's for members of the media. Basketball managed Genobili
is already a Hall of Famer. Kevin Garnett's a Hall
of Famer as well. But I'm looking for the for
the players or the front office people, the coaches, you
(06:47):
know on the Priiffery, or even Sonny Vacaro with what
he meant to the you know, the shoe industry and
what that did to basketball, college, high school and the NBA.
I'd mentioned Barry Melrose contributions to hockey with the Mothership.
Mel Kiper, he's the first that came out analyzing the draft,
(07:07):
and he's been there.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
He's been a staple.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
He's led the way for you know, all of these
other networks analysts come out with all their information mocked drafts.
I mean, that's all melk Kuiper. You know, there's a
few people that gave that contribution to the game that
didn't get to play the game. I mentioned Kurt Flood,
(07:31):
and you know he challenged the reserve clause with Major
League Baseball back in the early seventies, and he was
a really good player for the Cardinals, and baseball has
contributions to the game as far as players. I think
it would be great if Kurt Flood got into the
Baseball Hall of Fame for contributions to the game because
(07:52):
he challenged baseball and said, you're not going to treat
us as a piece of meat. And it did cost
him at the end of his career as he missed
I think one season and then eventually played came back
and played one or two more seasons for the Washington Senators.
But I think I want to celebrate more when it
(08:14):
comes to the Hall of Fames. And that doesn't mean
let's put in guys who maybe aren't Hall of Famish,
or maybe they're Ish, but they're not Hall of Famers.
But to be able to have a moment like that
with Brent Musberger, who is in his mid eighties and
he's given a lot to college football in the NFL,
and you start the first pregame show and it was
(08:38):
just something that was unique and it was live. They
used to do these pre recorded shows and then they would,
as he said, tape something on Friday and play it
on Sunday before the game started. Brent Musberger said, you
are looking live, and that was letting the betters know
that Soldier field. Those are the conditions in case you
(09:00):
betting on this game. And then you have Jimmy the
Greek who was talking about gambling without really talking about gambling.
Phyllis George was doing interviews with players IRV Cross. He
had an African American who was on you know, Thedais
or whatever the stage with Brent there and a former player.
(09:22):
They did something before anybody else was doing it, and
I just thought that Brent deserved to be recognized. I
just thought he was being forgotten, and I thought it
was an injustice. So I'm glad that the Pro Football
Hall of Fame, you know, they were very accommodating. I
will say this, whenever I brought up something on the show,
(09:43):
I've heard from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now,
not the Pro Football writers. I don't want to get
into that room, but as far as contributions to the game,
I hear immediately from the.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
In fact, I heard yesterday from the Pro Football Hall
of Fame and they want us up there next year.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
They said, you got to book it.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
We want you here for next year to be part
of the Hall of Fame week, and I said, we
will look at that. I promise you that we will
look at that. Go to Canton, Ohio and get to
experience that they pro Football Hall of Fame. I went
there one time, and I mean it just takes over
the whole time. Can't knowhiw And you get all these
(10:28):
great players who come in and it's pretty remarkable. Then
you get the football game as well. But great football
country there in Can't Ohio. All right, a couple more
phone calls in here. Let me see Don in Dover. Hi, Don,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Hi?
Speaker 9 (10:45):
Good morning, Dan and Dennette. I just had a thanks
taking my call about Travis Hunter. So I understand on
the depth chart the list it was wide receiver primarily
corner or depends the back second. But I think that
if they actually score points with him at wide receiver,
don't have a lead, and then they can go ahead
and put them on defense to protect the lead. I
think we'll end up playing both, and I think the
(11:06):
more impactful position will be the corner. I just want
to know your guys thoughts.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Yeah, it felt like that that was you know, that
that was his position he was going to come in
and start right away, and look, this is early. They
can put whatever they want, whoever they want on their
depth chart. You know, let me see how this goes
in a couple of weeks where Travis Hunter is. Do
I think he's I see him more as a cornerback,
and then he's going to be able to play. You know,
(11:32):
I'm not gonna say a handful. I'm gonna try to
get him out there as much as I can. But
maybe it's you know, twenty five plays on offense. Maybe
it starts out as ten to fifteen. Maybe you kind
of see how he is. It's a long season, and
this is what college players will tell you after that
first year. Wow, you hit the wall.
Speaker 10 (11:51):
Yeah, Marvin, Going forward, do you see more guys that
are five star wars? Who's saying, wait, I was really
good on both sides of the ball. Let me get
an opportunity to do with Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I would try, but as I brought up with Paul Skeins,
he was a really good hitter in college, and I thought,
why not, you're the pirates. Let him play a couple
of games. I don't know what position he'd play, but
let him hit. I think it would be fun. But
(12:23):
now it used to be like Hunter Green was the
number one pick by the Cincinnati Reds a few years ago.
I think he was a shortstop and a pitcher. It
feels like you've got players Normally your pitcher plays shortstop,
you know when he's not pitching. And I would have
thought that maybe there are a few more players that
could be able to do what show Heyo Toani has done.
(12:44):
And speaking of show Heyo Tony, I know he's the
favorite to win the mvpick. And then you have the
Chicago Cubs Pete Crow Armstrong, he's second favorite. Kyle Schwarber
should be in the MVP conversation. You know, you look
(13:04):
at his numbers and we feel like he's one dimensional.
He hits home runs well. He hit two home runs,
including a Grand Slam. He leads the National League with
forty home runs. He leads baseball with ninety four RBIs.
He's hitting two sixty. I think we tend to look
at him ash that softball guy. Softball player hit another
(13:26):
home run. If I'm looking at value, Kyle Schwarber should
be in that conversation. He has the most runs batted
in by a Philly through the first one hundred and
twelve games of a season since Ryan Howard in two
thousand and eight. I think he might be the fastest
(13:46):
to forty home runs in Philadelphia history. I mean, it's
you know exactly what he's going to do when he
goes up there. He's going to swing for a home run.
But Kyle Schwarber, he know Otani has the advantage of
being a pitcher and a hitter, but you know his
hitting stats, some of them are better than now ops.
(14:09):
If you buy into that the analytics, Otani would have
a better OPS, I believe. But this is Kyle Schwarber
for the Phillies, and I don't think anybody would be
surprised if Phillies aren't in there at the very end,
battling the Dodgers for the National League for the right
to go to the World Series.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Yeah, Pauli and Otani's batting average this year is down
to two seventy four. It was three to ten last year.
Otani is not stealing bases in volume like he did
last year. He had fifty nine on the season. He
has fifteen so far this year. So Schwarve is just
behind him a little bit in both of those categories.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Well, I don't think Schwarber has a stolen basis.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yes, ten whoh.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
He is deceptive at the best.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
At the career. HI on the back. No one says
him stealing.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I've just been informed. Stat of the day brought to
you my opinion. In the America. Kyle Schwarber is now
at plus seven hundred, tied with Pete crow Armstrong to
win the MVP. He was one thousand plus one thousand yesterday.
It's Otani's to lose. But Kyle Schwarber should be recognized
as a Hall of Fame candidate. We'll take break. More
phone calls coming up, We'll come back. We're going to
(15:27):
play fill in the blank after this and The Dan
Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
We've been talking backup quarterbacks today. Veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater
visiting Tampa today, expected to sign with the Buccaneers. Thirty
two years of age. He last played for the Lions
in December of twenty twenty forty. Came out of retirement
to serve as Jared Goff's backup. Wow, so Baker Mayfield
(16:36):
is your starter? He just came back. He missed a
couple of days with an injured right hand, leaving the
Bucks with just two quarterbacks there.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Yeah. So wasn't Teddy Bridgewater a high school coach? I think?
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yeah? He was in Minnesota, New Orleans, Carolina, Denver, Miami, Detroit.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Time to play Phil in the Blank where I read
a statement and then you fill in the blank. It
starts like this, Paulie Matthew Stafford's back is going to
be blank Lingering Todd cramping the ram style seatan.
Speaker 10 (17:20):
Problem, Marvin an ongoing question.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
The Browns quarterback situation is blank, Paul.
Speaker 12 (17:30):
Tank Worthy, Todd, crowded, Seaton, leave them alone.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, Marvin horror awful Week one of the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Michael Parsons will be blank.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Paul watching TV at home.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
God starting for the Cowboys. Seaton starting for the Cowboys.
Marvin A lot richer.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
This quarterback JJ McCarthy's. This is quarterback JJ McCarthy's blank
year haul rookie question mark.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
He didn't play it down last year, but.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
In the NFL he was still on a team even
though he got injured.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
He didn't play correct.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
According to the NFL rules, he is not considered a rookie. Okay,
if you were in the NBA or MLB, he would be.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I guess we know the answer to that, but I'll
still ask everybody. This is quarterback JJ McCarthy's blank year.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Todd minuscule success from injury year.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
That's kind of this word.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Salad Seaton. This is his best year.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
This is going to be his best year ever.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Red shirt rookie year. Okay.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
The Texas Longhorns being ranked preseason number one.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Is blank haul rate, pressure, Dodd and Arch I mean
a reach.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
A Seaton, A long Horns shot.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Yeah, I'm hard to keep up with you a bit
much show.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Hey, Jhani's postseason pitching is going to be blank all.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Vital, God limited and shaky.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Seaton irrelevant, Marvin crucial. That's filled in the blank. About
a round of applause, everybody.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
We did it.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
We did it, Yeah, Phil in the blank, We did it.
Doug in North Carolina, Good morning, Doug. What's on your
mind today?
Speaker 13 (19:39):
Well, Dan, I have in front of me the list
of Pete Roselle Television and Radio Award winners, and which
obviously you can take credit for getting to the names
on the list. It started in nineteen eighty nine. In
nineteen ninety five they gave the award to Frank Gifford.
In two thousand and one, Ourledge. In two thousand and seven,
(20:02):
Don Meredith, and in later years Al Michaels, Dan Diridorf,
and John Madden, who all had stints on Monday Night football,
all won this award. No mention of Howard Cosell, which
is egregious to me. I'm of a certain age where
I remember what Monday Night Football was with Howard Cosell.
Does Howard belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
Yes, Yes, contributions to the game. Yes, that's a great point.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
U add Howard Cosell to my list. I'm going to
have to help out here. Pro Football Hall of Fame.
I know you're listening. I'll be talking to you at
some point this afternoon about Howard Cosell being in the
Pro Football Hall of Fame for the Pete Rosell Award.
Contributions to the game absolutely, when you know this is
(20:54):
prior to cable, but when you had Monday Night Football
and Howard gave you the halftime highlights, those were probably
the only opportunities for you to see other teams, and
he gave you the enthusiasm. You couldn't wait if Howard
Cosell was going to have the Bengals highlights. And you're like,
oh my god, we made it halftime of Monday Night
(21:16):
Football with Howard Cosell.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
It was a big deal.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Brian in Minneapolis, Hi, Brian, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Hey Brian?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Wayne in Nebraska, Hi, Wayne, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (21:35):
Danielle, thanks for calling back a quick question? Or Sean Taylor?
You know he had such a short career, cut short?
Is it pass? I know you're talking about Hall of
Fame and stuff like that. Say you extrapolate out he
played for another five six years, he's average or above average.
Which cared you was do you think he makes a
Hall of Fame or do you think there's ever a
(21:56):
shot for someone like that that was so great for
such a short time time to get in.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Well, you know, you've had people who have gone in
who didn't have lengthy careers. Trell Davis did and Gail
Stairs didn't. I don't know if Sean Taylor did enough,
you know, with stats, because these these were running backs,
they had stats. Charl Davis rushed for two thousand yards
in season, won a couple of Super Bowls. Gail Sairs
(22:22):
might have been the finest return guy that I ever saw.
Sean Taylor played four seasons. He was a great player,
but I don't think that he would get Hall of
Fame consideration. There age seven to seven to three. DP
show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle
(22:44):
at dp show. All right, let's do the backup quarterbacks here,
because I'm not sure who Patrick Mahomes backup quarterback is
and I need to know that because I just thought
of it. I thought it was Carson Wentz, and PAULI goes, nope,
do we have some football music to a company?
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Know your backup quarterback?
Speaker 4 (23:07):
I haven't played this in a few years. Shall we
start with the Chiefs? Yes, all right, I'll open this
up to the room. Second, this is the best guess
of everyone's second string quarterback at this juncture. The Chiefs
backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Is Marvin Chase Daniel. Are we going to take this seriously? I?
I said, Chase Daniel, what a straight face?
Speaker 5 (23:35):
Todd Carson Wentz seton, Uh, Andy Dalton.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Give you half a point. It's Gardner Minshew. That's a
nice one. Yeah, all right, we'll go for a few
more big teams.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Yeah, because Gardner Minshew was with the Raiders, stays in
the division with Gardner Minshew.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
The Bills backup quarterback is.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Mitchell Trubisky.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Mitchell Trubisky, not Mitchell. Yeah, no, okay, let's throw a
couple more. Uh. The San Francisco forty nine ers backup
quarterback is this.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
One, Marvin? That's your team?
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
No, Jacoby, No, but he's always someone's mac Jones mac
Kobe in Arizona, no clue.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, you might need him this year.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
The Green the green Bay Packers. Dam he had a
good year last year as a backup, kind of recaptured
his career. Malik Williss ran he did have a couple
of good games. All right, here's a toughie. The great
(24:55):
Philadelphia Eagles. They must have a top tier backup.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Quarterback, somebody who would amplifies the same traits as Jalen Hurt.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Yes, clearly they're gonna spend on that position.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Marvin the Eagles. Yes, raise your hand if you have
a guess here. Mason Rudolph. Oh wait, no, he's uh,
he's still He's still he's still a Staller.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
He's a Steeler again.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Yeah, you can't let a talent like that out of
the building.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Tanner McKee, Tanner McKee, real name.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Tanner McKee. Yeah, all right, Tanner.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
It sounds like a fake name.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
But it played bad news Bears.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Okay, it used to be Cooper Rush. Who's the backup
now in Dallas?
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Oh, that's my guy. This isn't my dog? Seaton j m.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Three Milton three, Joe Milton, their third.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah, that's my dog. He's gonna be starting by the
end of the season. That's right, that's right. Him and
Ceedee lamb lights out. Wasn't he the back up in
New England? He was? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Okay, yeah, who's the backup quarterback in New England right now?
Speaker 3 (26:06):
M Josh Doubs.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
That's correct. Okay, all rights, reading the Boston glove all right.
The Miami Dolphins backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Is Zach Wilson.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Taylor Heineke.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
He looks like a Dolphins quarterback. He could be a
Dolphins cheerleader. Okay, Fritzy, this should be an easy one.
The Denver Broncos that would be Jared Jared Crack and
the l A Charger, the l A Charger.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Abana him right. Oh, we just got to watch this
lad uh.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Not DJNGLA no uh, Trey Lance, Trey Lance.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Listen to this third string Taylor Taylor Taylor, not Tyler
Hennikey Taylor.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Taylor, Tyler Heineke. Yeah yeah, Taylor Heineke, who is listed.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
As the backup in Cleveland right now? Not ever, can't
say everybody whose list is the backup, can you? Benjamin Pickett,
who is backing up in Houston, used to start decent numbers.
Long neck Davis Mills. Davis Mills had to wait for
(27:24):
the neck handling Stanford's Davis Mills. Here's one I forgot.
The Washington Commander's back up for Jayden.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Daniels, Sam Howe. No, Marcus Mariota.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Marcus Mariota, and that's it. That's no. You're back.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Yourself, Alan Minnesota. Hi, Al, wh's on your mind today?
Speaker 15 (27:56):
No? What's up? Five one hundred and eighty five pounds?
Just gotta say we were talking about Howard Cosell, one
of the great announcers of all time. I only have
two things to say. Yes, he should be in the
Hall of Fame. This is Howard cole Cell.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Thank you, Allen. Yeah, oh I thought he was done. Al,
I'm sorry I cut you off there.
Speaker 15 (28:23):
Sorry, I just have one more. Down, goes Fraser, Down,
goes Fraser.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
All right, Well that doesn't help him with the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. This is Howard Cosell speaking of sports.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Yes, boy, you know, he might be the first, at
my lifetime sportscaster who was a household name. If you
didn't even care about sports, would that be fair to
say you saw his prime?
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Yeah, but he was.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
He was omnipresent though he did all the box. I mean,
he was doing baseball playoffs doing the NFL. He was
in the booth. I mean he he was, he was around.
You knew who he was like before Stephen A. Smith,
Howard Cosell. He's going to be at all the big events.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
Yeah, Tommy Fraser quarterback could have been down. Goes for
it like he got sacked. That's how Thank you, tod
uh Brian in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Hi, Brian, Hey, damn, thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 13 (29:23):
Salary butter of the Year.
Speaker 8 (29:24):
But I've got a contribution to the game and I'll
do the heavy lifting on this one. You work on
Howard Cosell. But I'm thinking and I know it's how
it's gonna sound, and I would go with it. The
Los Angeles Laker Girls and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. Okay,
if you want to get me in touch with the
(29:45):
Laker girls, I will start.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, I'm sure that I'll get you in touch with
the Laker girls. There, Brian, thank you. Now we're talking
about if if there's a contribution to the game I'm
talking about with football that you were in the media,
that's I mean, that's the point of it that you
can get in because there is an award the Pete
(30:08):
Roselle Award, the former NFL commissioner. That's why it's a
little bit easier to get those who are contributing to
the game that way. Mike and Virginia. Hi, Mike, what's
on your mind?
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Hey? How was going?
Speaker 14 (30:21):
Dan?
Speaker 6 (30:22):
Five seventy five? Uh, just let me set it up
for you real quick. Me and my wife are leaving
this morning, and she faced me up with the garbage
shop and she said, Kobe, I've hit a couple of
garbagecan shots in my life. Jordan, I watched a few
movies I've seen Kobe, Jordan Yale. I've never heard someone
say like Larry or Steph when they make a garbage
(30:44):
can shot. So first question is, are you guys a
Kobe or Jordan when you make a garbage can shot?
Second question, have you ever heard another name when someone
makes a garbage cans shot? Shout out Clinton Massey and
stuck at Joe Witts.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
All right, I played against Clinton Massy and Joe Witz
was the guy that I was friends with in college,
played basketball with.
Speaker 5 (31:10):
What did you put up against the Clinton Massy? Thirty
six thirty six? Yeah? They know they know what time
it is. Yeah, yeah, they know what time it is? Yeah,
no three point shot back then, just saying probably would
have put up forty forty four, forty five. That's okay,
mister outside, mister yes, I mean all I know is
when you say you can't stop him, like League rules
(31:33):
frowned upon using a handgun.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Because that's the only way to stay. Like League rules
frowned upon that. They're not saying they didn't say it
wasn't illegal. Rather, you don't.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
But if somebody had a handgun, Hey, we frown on that. Hey,
that's the only way we can stop mister outside. Uh Clinton,
Massy Clinton, Massy, I owned those guys.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Thirty six Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Yeah, kind of an easy thirty six too. I mean
that's thirty six in thirty two minutes.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
I'm just saying.
Speaker 10 (32:08):
I mean, yes, marm in your head, do you think
you're like Tommy Frazer just being a Tommy phrase?
Speaker 13 (32:13):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I was born way too early? Oh yeah, with a
three point shot?
Speaker 13 (32:17):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Absolutely absolutely wrong?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Era yeah uh Wit in Grand Rapids, Hi, Wit, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 13 (32:26):
Hey?
Speaker 16 (32:26):
Good morning, Dan morning, Hey, thanks for the call. Just
wanting to jump on this morning, say appreciate all you
and the Dan Nets do to bring sunshine to my
life and all the listeners' lives every day. It's been
(32:47):
a tougher day here so far today, but I quickly
turned on the radio and within a few seconds I
was laughing with you guys, and I felt like I
was in the room, and there's something special about that
and what you guys do every day. So I don't
want that ever to be. We're gonna miss you when
you're gone. Man, you're a heck of a I think
you're one of the best, for sure. So thanks for
everything you've done. And uh, hang up and listen.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Thank you, Witt And he said I'm one of the best.
So now he bummed me out, just one of the best.
Speaker 13 (33:17):
Day.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Yeah, well he.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Just said we made his day and we make it
every day. And now, hey, I'm gonna miss you. You're
one of the best.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Well, Levatar comes on there.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Now, when Colin comes on, Nick right, it's a long
list of him.
Speaker 17 (33:34):
Are you turning into such a nice compliment into something
wait less.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Than he said you're one of the best. I mean,
I don't know.
Speaker 17 (33:42):
There's such a sweet sentiment and now it's like a
bad thing all of a sudden.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Yes, it would easy be easy to say, hey, you're
the best and just let it go at that, and
in his mind he could think you're one of the best,
but throw you're the best.
Speaker 13 (33:55):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (33:56):
I once a few months back, was leaving a table
of three other people, so I had to take off.
And there's people that I wasn't going to see again,
or at least not for a long time. And they're
people that, like I was, I'm not really friends with necessarily,
but I'm friendly with, and I just happened to spend
a couple of hours with them. I was like, all right, man,
see you later. Man, you're the best, all right, I
see later, You're the best, all right, I see you later.
(34:16):
You're the best, and then left. And then as I
was getting into my car to leave, I was just like,
I just called each of them the best.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
It kind of rings hollow. It kind of rings hollow.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
Yeah, yeah, but if I just said you guys are
the best, then it would have been fine. But I
called individually them the best, And then I felt really
bad about.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
That, speaking of phony compliments. Yes, hut.
Speaker 17 (34:37):
So it's actually good that he said one of the best,
because it seemed more sincere and genuine as opposed to
you the man, or you're the best, or some kind
of goodbye way you wrap up a conversation to leave
the table. So I think it actually meant more.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
But I've moved on from this. You're the one holding
onto this.
Speaker 17 (34:51):
I didn't like that you said one of the best.
He's opening up to you, and I feel like I'm
one of the guys that I'm in the room with you,
and I'm gonna miss you when you're gone, Like, yeah,
one of the best.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Okay, who are the other bests?
Speaker 5 (35:02):
Yeah, that's really the question, I know, I know, yeah,
because yeah, if it's like you Colin and Rome, I
don't know, no offense and.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
You're gonna throw Adam Shine in there, And I said,
what are we sports? Friend of the program? All right,
let me take a break here, all right.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
It's just like Costa Costas Musburger.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
You then it's like hell yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
Yeah, hell yeah, I'll take that all right, let me
take a break. That's like Pokemon. We're still going to
take a break. We're back after Generator. Here we go
back after this.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (35:48):
A couple more phone calls in here. Sterling Sharp is
set to join us next hour. We have not heard
from it. What Todd?
Speaker 17 (35:55):
I literally just got a text saying got it? Does
the reminder literally twenty seconds ago?
Speaker 2 (36:01):
So yesterday he forgot about it and then he said, Hey,
have somebody reach out and remind me on Tuesday. And
then Todd was just talking to me during the commercial breaks.
I haven't heard back from Sterling Sharp, and I said,
all right, well then we'll have him on Wednesday. He'll
be on one of these days. Colin in New York, Hi, Colin,
(36:21):
went's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (36:24):
Yo?
Speaker 12 (36:24):
Man?
Speaker 18 (36:24):
You talk about the best. You talk about Jim Rome. Yeah,
he's one of the best, Okay, But Tole Coward is
not one of the best. I can't believe that Fox
makes us listen to him after listening to your great
show and I.
Speaker 14 (36:35):
Have to listen to him.
Speaker 18 (36:36):
I mean, can't they plug in like Manti Bolognos and
Dan Byer or something. I mean, he is not one
of the best. Jonas Jonas Knock is one of the best. Okay.
LaVar Arrington is better than Colin Coward.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
No, Colin.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Colin is very good at what he does, very good
at what he does. Okay, I don't know where Jim
Rome is on x formally Twitter, but I don't know.
First of all, I don't listen to sports shows. After
doing a sports show. I'll listen in the morning with
(37:08):
ESPN with Evan Cohen, who I think is really talented,
Chris Canty and Small's I think that they do a
really good job. Or afternoon, if I'm here at studio,
I'll watch Nick Wright show. First things first, I think
that Nick does a wonderful job. I'm not tuning in
to watch sports or listen to sports, not after doing
(37:28):
it for three hours. But because they're friends, then I'll
do that. Colin's show follows our show on a lot
of these Fox Sports affiliates. But Colin's been doing a
long time. He does a really good job. Uh Oh,
Marvin has a game, Okay, I do what is the game?
Speaker 10 (37:47):
The game is? Guess who Richard Jefferson's talking about. Okay,
this wasn't on your Bengal card, was it?
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Okay, Well, what's the context of one?
Speaker 10 (37:56):
Richard Jefferson says he gives his opinion on who the
best NBA player is to not win a championship. So
I'm going to give a guest.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Okay, you know who it is already, all right, Todd.
Who is Richard Jefferson? Who is the former NBA player
who works for the Mothership John Stockton greatest player to
never win a title?
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Seaton? Do you have a guess?
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Chuck Wagon, Chuckster, Chuck Barkley, Paulyester.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Carl Malone, Carl.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Maline at the Lone Shooting too. I'm going to go,
I'll go Carl Malone. Here's Richard Jefferson.
Speaker 19 (38:39):
The reason why I would pick Carl Malone over Charles
is because the level of professionalism that Carl Malone always
approached with Charles. When he was in Philly, he was
in and out of shape, and then he get to
then he would you know, some of his you know,
you know, off the core partying that we knew about.
I'm saying Charles as a rebel. He's not a role model.
(39:01):
So I'm not taking shots at him, but I'm saying
when you look at a guy like Carl Malone, who
trained for eight hours a day, he played for nineteen years,
he was second in scoring, and if his body would
have held up, he probably would have been the all
time leading scorer. So from when I look at the
best player to not win a championship, I'm going to
(39:21):
put Karl Malone as number one.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Okay, that's his opinion. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
We get upset sometimes when somebody has an opinion and
it doesn't align with ours. It's like, oh, I can't
believe it's his opinion. It's okay, Like people can disagree
with you. I mentioned I thought that Ronnie James should
have been at Lucas press conference. His other teammates, new
teammates were there. I thought it would have been a
(39:49):
great moment because you're the last guy on the bench. Okay,
be there. Hopefully you'll be there after your dad's done playing.
Maybe Luca's still your teammate. People were angry at me.
You're taking shots at Bronnie, and I'm just telling you
my opinion.
Speaker 8 (40:06):
That's all.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
You can have an opinion. May not agree, but that's okay.
We have the opportunity to discuss.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Yes, seton.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
I think it's hard to hold Charles Barkley's off court
things against them and not Karmel OAN's that's my only
problem with what was just said there was like whoa ingo,
Hold on a minute, and that's why I would have
just kept it at basketball.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Hold up, just do basketball.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Once you start to get into off the court stuff,
then that's dangerous territory. Yeah, dangerous territory. Most cars on
the road could use a little TLC at Maco. They
bring your car back to life. Affordable paying jobs like
collision repairs. Get a free estimate today, o oh, better
get mako.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Yes, Marv, who do you have as the best player
never to win a championship? Carmelone? Yeah, I'm fine with that.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Charles was as fascinating as anybody I've ever watched to
do what he did at that size. Yes, in a
true six', five it's not one of, those and he
might not even have been full six, five might have
been six four and a.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Half but to watch him do, it that's pretty. Impressive all,
Right Final hour on the.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Way Sterling sharp is set to join us talk about
His hall Of fame induction and if he, doesn't and
we'll see if he can join us.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Tomorrow Final hour This. Tuesday after this
