Speaker 3 (01:01):
Well from our one, Dan, We've got do you think
that this series is going to go five? The Eastern
Conference Finals? Do you think that's gonna go five games
or seven games. Right now, fifty five percent of the
audience says seven games.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
It's pretty close.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I think we're hoping for seven. If you're hoping for seven,
are you picking the Pacers to win?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Oh? I don't know. I just want a competitive series. Yeah,
because you know, I don't think anybody national media wise
goes boy, thank god we got the Pacers in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
But it feels more likely if the game does go seven,
Pacers have a better chance than just five.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, right, yes, absolutely, but they had it last night.
They had it. Here's a Pacers coach, Rick Carlyle on
the games slipping away.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
This this loss is totally on me. With ten seconds
in regulation, we should have just taken the timeout, advanced
the ball and find way to get it in and
made a free thrower too and ended the game.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
But it didn't happen, and we made.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Some other mistakes. But our guys just need to concentrate
on fighting the way they fought in this game from
start to finish, and we'll be back Thursday.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I'm sure Rick Carlisle told his team, hey, if you
don't get it in, you got a time out. We
can advance the ball to half court. Once we get
it in, they're going to foul. And then we make
a couple of free throws or a free throw and
we win this game. Then you have Jalen Brown who's
in the corner. You'll have to guard the three if
they get it too great, But Siakam is not close
(02:41):
enough to Jalen Brown. And then he gets close and
then he backs away. He doesn't want to foul him.
You got to grab a hold of his arm. Okay,
if he's you know, don't let him get into the
you know, shooting motion here. And even if he goes
to the line, is he going to make all three?
But I would have gotten there before he was going
(03:03):
to take the shot. Then you found him. All right,
he can go to the line. But they had their opportunities.
And then once it went into overtime, I just said, ballgame.
Jason Tatum had a terrible fourth quarter, came back was
great in overtime. All right, So Reggie will join us
coming up eight seven seven three DP show Tyler sitting by.

you for downloading the app.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Yeah, seton, I have another poll question here for you
if you want to add into this. All right, but
who would you draft first? Anthony Edwards or Luka Doncic
whoh ouch? Who would you if you walked into the
playground and there are two dudes standing there?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Oh oh the playground, so the the eye test. Okay,
if I walked in, I would I would take Anthony
Edwards because he'd probably be doing some pretty crazy things.
He'd be dunking, shooting threes, joking, smack tall and be like,
all right, that guy's got swag. I'm gonna take him. Luca,
(04:08):
I would go that guy probably used to be pretty
good in high school. Doesn't look like he's in shape.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
But uh, he's definitely the dude at the playground that
you're like, somebody blocked that shot already when he's going
on like you know what, I'll take him.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
He shows up to the court wearing running shoes.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah yeah, Okay.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
If you were at an NBA workout, you were at
like a comment combine, and you saw not the playground
but the comment everybody was working on they were playing.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Anthony Edwards, you would take Anthony Edwards. Still.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
The thing with Luca is it's so subtle what he
does to get his shot. I mean, he's so big,
he uses his body, He's very physical. So I had
somebody say, man, I would put Anthony Edwards on Luca,
and I go, no, No, that won't be good because
Luca will overpower him. Ant is going to guard Kyrie.
(05:00):
That'll be a fun matchup, that'll be awesome. But this
is where Minnesota may not have an answer. Their answer.
They were built to beat the Denver Nuggets. They built
that roster, they brought in Rudy Gobert. They wanted to say,
we got bigs to guard. You know, the best player
in the game. Now you got Luca, the leading scorer
in the game. Who's going to guard him? You got
(05:22):
to have somebody who is big enough, quick enough, strong
enough to be able to not let him get to
his places, his spots, because that's what he does. You
know where he's going. For the most part, you can't
block the shot, and he creates separation because he's really,
really physical, and that's not something that Anthony. Anthony Edwards
(05:43):
is a good size NBA guard Luca. That's a big
guy and you don't realize it. He is wide and
he's moving at the same speed he always does because
he can't go. Man, he's a lot quicker than I thought. No,
he's going to get to point A, point B, point C.
He's gonna have shots, he's gonna throw alley oops. I mean,
this is who he is, this is what he does.
(06:04):
You don't go through the league this many times where
all of a sudden somebody goes you know, I've figured
him out. Usually the first time through. That's when you
have to react and do something different as a scorer
or as a defender. Luca's been doing this to a
lot of different people. Your best defender is on him
every single night, your best defender, and he's still getting,
(06:27):
you know, thirty points a game or more. Yes, Mark,
we're going.
Speaker 7 (06:31):
To be saying the name Jade McDaniels more times than
the next week than we have in the last four years.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
He will be the one who be guarding trying to
guard Luca.
Speaker 8 (06:39):
Or Nikhil Alexander Walker.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yes, they're going to have two guys, but you know
this is where you're going to get Rudy Gobert into
pick and rolls. I mean I sort of know the
game plan here of how this is going to be
at least structured from Dallas's perspective. Now, Minnesota really good
defensive team. How are they going to counter that? And
you got to get that second score. That's why Carl
(07:03):
Anthony Towns has to average at least twenty a game.
Ant Man, I'm expecting to know average twenty eight a game. Now,
you may get squirrely and go for forty in a game,
or Karl Anthony Towns goes for thirty. And if that's
the case, big advantage to Minnesota. But I'm hoping we
get to see vintage Kyrie Irving, like you're on a
(07:24):
big stage. Go out there and just ball. That's what
I'm hoping for. That'll be fun, yes, Barman.
Speaker 7 (07:31):
Yeah, And this seems like the type of series where
it's gonna be like, Wow, PJ. Washington had thirty, Yeah
he made eight three pointers. It's gonna be one of
those type of series where the fourth guy is gonna
have a huge game and determine the outcome, just like
the last series where Eric Gordon did show up and
they lose.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, they got And Dallas has some role players. Lively
is a wonderful player. You probably didn't go out of
your way to watch too much Dallas this year. Now
you get an opportunity. It's like the Pacer Pacers play
at a frenetic pace that I love, and that would
be this is what I'm gonna we're gonna do. They
normally don't turn the ball over a lot for a
(08:09):
team that has pace. And they had their opportunity last night,
and Boston's at home, rested, and you got three guys
who get at least twenty six for the Celtics, and
you need overtime. If I'm Rick Carlisle, I say, hey,
we have these We're better than this team. We can
beat this team, we can win this. We didn't play great.
(08:30):
We gave it away at the end. They barely beat it.
Like you have to because if I'm a Pacer, if
I'm Tyrese Haliburton who did not play well late in
the game, I got to pick your spirits up, man,
I got to be like, hey, that's one game. You're
better than this. You'll show this, Drew Holliday. It's one
of those games where you go all right, all right,
(08:52):
all right, Drew, He's in the Hall of very good
When it's all said and done, you'll be a Hall
of gooder well, Al Horford is going to be a
Hall of Famer. I got to ask Reggie Miller that
Al Horford is going to be a hall I don't
know why I'm fixated on that. If I said, who's
more likely to be a Hall of Famer Drew Holliday
(09:12):
or Al Horford?
Speaker 8 (09:13):
That old questions.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, once again asking the question that nobody else wants
to ask because nobody cares to answer. Chad Holmgrin, is
he a rookie or not? Yes, yes, Marto.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
Al Horford I think has the same amount of All
Star appearances as Reggie Miller.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
I don't know if we need to bring it up
that way. No, no, no, no, no, no no no.
Speaker 7 (09:34):
With Reggie, his five All Star games are different than
because he was an All Star five times over ten years.
So I don't want to put him in the same category.
But that just sounds wild that somebody like Reggie Miller
has the same Sorry, Al Horford, I don't want to
disrespect you guys like that.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
No, no, no, that's the bus. That's the bus. Yeah,
you're nick right here? You oh no, no, backing up over Reggie?
Speaker 8 (09:57):
Why how am I backing up over Reggie?
Speaker 2 (09:59):
You know Reggie al Horford has the same number of All.
Speaker 7 (10:03):
Star Yeah, that sounds wild. Reggie Miller like a mean spirit?
Did I say, Reggie Miller?
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Couldn't you have picked another guy? Well, I pick reggis
joining us in like ten minutes.
Speaker 8 (10:14):
It's not a knock on, Reggie. That's the crazy part.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Let's go around the room. Do you think it's a
knock on? Reggie Good?
Speaker 8 (10:21):
I thought it was a shot, Okay, a little bit,
not terrible.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
See, I don't know if the question is if I
thought it was a shot, it's how is Reggie.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Going to take?
Speaker 9 (10:30):
Compare?
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Well, you know, Reggie's sort of you know him and
al Horford are sort of similar. Yeah, similar career, similar game. Yeah, similar? Yeah, great, Martin,
that's the question. How's Reggie teke.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
The It's not a done deal, Yeah, not a done
deal yet. According to Sports Business Journal, the NBA is
finalizing contracts with Disney, NBC, and Amazon for media heights
for the NBA. Not a done deal, and apparently Warner
(11:06):
Brothers Discovery may take legal action here. That's TNT so
our bosses, our friends at NBC. Disney is in there,
ABC and Amazon for the media rights for the NBA.
We talked to Charles Barkley. Was that last week or
(11:28):
the week before, and we talked to him about he
thought there was going to be a decision two weeks ago.
I think there's been a decision, and then I think
TNT is fighting just to get back to the negotiating
table here. But according to the Sports Business Journal, and
Charles won a Sports Emmy last night, I believe Ernie
(11:48):
Johnson won a Sports Emmy last night. I think I
think the TNT pregame show won an Emmy as well.
Swan song for them all right, mikel in Virginia, Hey, Mike,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Dan?
Speaker 10 (12:06):
Thanks so much for taking Thanks for us for taking
my call, and I hope it provides a small consolation
in response to last night's Emmy Awards snub. Uh. Last
time I called in, I praised your cultural takes and
addition to your sports takes, your Hamilton Taylor Swift, et cetera.
And I've called a day to thank you for your
career guidance because it's your professionalism, your every day is
(12:30):
a super Bowl example that inspired me in the creation
of my little TV show that's up for two regional
in they awards.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
All right, I'm rooting for you, Michael. What's what's the show?
Speaker 10 (12:45):
Well, the show is called Buzz at air for public
television in Virginia, and it features nonprofits receiving marketing makeovers
hounds like a fixture upper or extreme home makeover for
nonprofit organizations.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
And I'm rooting for you. I'm rooting for you win one.
Speaker 10 (13:02):
I'm wondering if, in Carson Palmer like fashion, you'd be
up for me sending you one of the Emmys for
you to display in the man case.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
I would love to. If you want to loan it,
you know, we'd be more than happy to make arrangements
to try to keep it a little safer than we
did Carson Palmer's Heisman Trophy. But Michael, we're rooting for you.
I love winners, everybody every day's super Bowl, but I
love a good winner.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
Yes, I found this guy's show. It's called Buzz, an
inspiring TV show that does profiles nonprofit organizations and marketing
pros to help them do more, do better. So it's
a feel good, community help, public service type show. Maybe
we should help other people and that would help us
win a win.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Do we help them? Every day. Right, we help them
get to work, we help them if they're hold up
at home with some kind of disease or some kind
of injury.
Speaker 8 (13:55):
He facerated.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
Maybe we should pretend to help more people, to help
swath the.
Speaker 8 (14:01):
Buzz.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, all right, well I'm rooting for him. I'm gonna
take a break. Reggie Miller, he's gonna join us coming
up next. We couldn't get Al Horford apparently Marvin, so
we got Reggie Miller to join us.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
We have to do.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Yeah, all right, take a break after this. We're messed up.
I mean, he's no Al Horford. Yeah, we're messed up.

host of the number one rated Paully and Tony Fusco show.
We get tons and tons of fanmail every day, piles
of it. In fact, Tony, why don't you open up
one of those letters right now and read what's inside.
Speaker 12 (14:48):
Hey, listen to this, Dear Paulie and Tony, your sports
takes the dumbest and most terrible.
Speaker 11 (14:53):
Not that open this other one.
Speaker 12 (14:56):
Dear Paulie and Tony, you suck more than anyone. Wait,
try this year, Paulie and Tony, you guys are the
absolute best.
Speaker 2 (15:04):

Forget.
Speaker 11 (15:09):
Just listen to the Folly and Tony Fusco Show on
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, Reggie Miller on the call. Western Conference Finals starts tonight.
It'll be in Minnesota, tip off tom eight thirty Eastern,
Kevin Harlan, stan Van Gundhi all only La Force will
be on the call with Reggie. Did you hear what
Marvin had to say about you, Reggie a couple of
minutes ago.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
I did not please enlighten me right?
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Well, should Marvin summarize this because it feels like he's
changing his story here of comparing Al Horford to Reggie
Miller when it comes to career greatness.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
Yes, Paulie, I'll try to be objective here. We were
talking about Drew Holliday and how he might be in
the Hall of Very Good like a couple All Star appearances,
and then we got into Al Horford. Dan, you said,
Al Horford's on the cusp of the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
I think he's going to be a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
And Marvin said, Al Horford has as many All Star
appearances as Reggie Miller, which is crazy.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
And I you didn't say it was crazy, you were
just it felt like he were bringing Reggie down to earth.
Oh little bit.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
Oh no, no, no, I'm forty. I'm old enough to remember
Reggie when he played.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Ok, all right, how many times have you been compared
to Al Horford in your life? Regie?
Speaker 5 (16:27):
I think this may be a first gentleman look body
of resume for Al.
Speaker 13 (16:36):
I think his longevity and what he has done with
the Arapa Hawks and obviously with the Celtics being able
to guard one through five. You saw a lot of
those switches in that you know, Paser series. He does
a little bit of everything. An he's selfless.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
So he won two national titles in college.
Speaker 13 (16:57):
Remember now, people, that's included into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
People just think it's about your body of work in
the NBA. No, it's college as well, two rings where
he was the leader of that team. Him and Joe
King Noah along with Corey Brewer. Uh that was a
three headed monster with Billy Donovan at the Rains two
(17:17):
national championship.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
So I agree with you, Theodore, and I think it'd be.
Speaker 13 (17:23):
Icing on the cake if the Celtics go on to
win a championship. I think it solidifies his chances of
getting into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
All right, Marvin, game on the line. You want Al
Horford taking a shot, Reggie.
Speaker 8 (17:38):
This is a tough one.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
But by the skin of my teeth, I'm gonna say, Ray,
by the skin of my teeth.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
I was worried about your basketball knowledge there, Mark, I
will never dishape.
Speaker 13 (17:51):
Now it's starting to make sense why we keep losing
these sports hittinges.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
I mean, we know who the weak link is now, mar.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
And all along we thought it was Fritzy Uk You Marvin,
all right, how do you explain the last ninety seconds
with the Pacers last night?
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Well, let me just say this.
Speaker 13 (18:14):
If you're a Pacer fan, and certainly I am one
of them, this has to sting. This is a gut
punch because look, and I've heard Rick hallall come out postgame.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
This loss is on me. Number one.
Speaker 13 (18:30):
Yes, you should have called the timeout. I know they
had one time out out. You should have used it.
You advanced the ball, then you have the whole court
to inbound it, your front court as well as the
back court. You get the ball in, you play the
free throw game. Okay, So you don't call timeout, that's fine.
Another thing I would have done. I would have got
TJ McConnell in the game, gotten Miles Turner out, so
(18:53):
I would have had Hallibert, Nie Smith, Nimhard, TJ and
Pascal Siakam on the floor.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
That's your speed unit. So I would have had TJ
McConnell taking the ball.
Speaker 13 (19:05):
Out right, and then I would have told TJ your
first look, your second look. If you don't have it,
then you call that last time out. Then you would
have advanced it and then hopefully you get the ball in.
So those are two things didn't happen. Turnover happens. Here's
another thing I would have done. Okay, So the ball
is underneath the Celtics basket. Tyre's Halliburton is guarding Drew
(19:30):
Holiday taking the ball out. If you remember the play,
I tell Tyree's Halliburton you've got to keep your left
foot on the baseline and make sure Drew Holiday throws
the ball to your right, either to the top of
the key or to the corner where you can see everything.
(19:50):
There's no way Holiday has the vision to pass it
through to Jalen Brown on the weak side if you
have your foot on the corner. What Halliburton was doing
and rightfully so they call this shadowy. He was shadowing
looking behind to see where Jason Tatum was because you
assume Jason Tatum, the number one option for the Celtics,
(20:14):
is going to get the basketball. So he was shadowing him,
trying to see where Tatum was, which he was behind
him and kind of coming to the ball, but that's
where you wanted the ball to go anyways, So there
was a series of mistakes. It's a gut punch. It's
very difficult to come back from this. But remember this
(20:34):
is kind of how the Pacers lost Game one to
New York in the first round and finally found a
way to win that series. But Theodore, you know, you've
seen a lot of games, and I've been a part
of situations like this. It's very just difficult when you
give games away in the playoffs to get them back,
(20:56):
and the Celtics are much different than the Knicks that
battered and bruise. They're fully healthy, and they've got guys
that can absolutely go get it. This is tough. I'll
be curious to see how they rebound in game two.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Mentally, Theodore Okay, if I said more likely to go
five games or seven games?
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Now, ah man, it's.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Can't I split the middle of the No, we take
six off the board.
Speaker 13 (21:31):
Look, as much as I would love my beloved Pacers
to go seven in this, you've got to be real.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
You're going against a team with the best record.
Speaker 13 (21:39):
You've got two All Stars and Tatum and Brown, you've
got two All time second team defenders and Derek White
Drew Holiday five. I would say five because of the
gut punch. And this reminds me and Paul, you may
look this up. This reminds me of Larry Johnson's four
point play in ninety nine, the series was tied one
(22:03):
to one, Game three in the Garden, Larry Johnson's four
point play. We had that game, we felt, we all
remember that they go up to one, people tend to forget.
We came back and won Game four the next game
in the Garden to even the series. But that taste
and that feels it's still stung. And we lost the
(22:26):
next two and we lost to the Knicks in six.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
That's why I'm saying it stays with you.
Speaker 13 (22:32):
If we would have won that Game three, we won
Game four, you would have been up three to one,
having to.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Win one more.
Speaker 13 (22:39):
That's why I'm saying, you can't give games away. And
I've been in that locker room. I know how it
feels when you when you gift wrapped a game. They
gift wrapped it that game one and a game one
they needed mentally. But again I want to see how
they react in game two. But to answer your questions,
and I'm sorry, I would say because it hurts.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
I'm talking to Reggie Millner, Hall of Famer, on the
call tonight. It's Game one in Minnesota, Kevin Harlan, stan
Van Gundy, Ally Lafor's tip off is at eight point
thirty Eastern. This game, this series, I should say, will
come down to what or whom.
Speaker 13 (23:20):
I think Carl Anthony Towns for Minnesota, how he played
in Game seven is going to happen. He has to
play that way at both ends of the floor. Number one,
staying out of foul trouble, because if he stays out
of foul trouble, he is so valuable for Minnesota what
he does at both ends of the floor. And I
(23:41):
think he's accepted obviously Anthony Edwards being that guy, right,
so there's not as much pressure on Cat anymore.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
And I think for Dallas, PJ.
Speaker 13 (23:53):
Washington was so great for Dallas in that mid season
pickup and what he did in at oak Ac Thunder
series at both ends of the floor.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
You know what you're gonna get from Luca and Kyrie,
but PJ.
Speaker 13 (24:08):
Washington average nineteen points, I believe in that series and
in that deciding in Game six, really didn't do anything
until the last what three v or four minutes of
that game. Two big threes, the big free throws down
the stretch, but to me, his lockdown defense. So two
guys that are like complimentary parts, Karl Anthony Towns from Minnesota,
(24:29):
PJ Washington, those two are gonna have to play well
and consistent for each of their ball clubs to be
successful in this series.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
If we went to the playground and Luca showed up
and Anthony Edwards showed up, just looking at him, you
had no idea anything about him, and then we're warming up,
who would you take first?
Speaker 5 (24:56):
I would still take Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 13 (24:58):
Yeah yeah, and as great and good and fantastic as
Luca is.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
Give me that. Do that twenty two year old?
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Wait wait, I'm just talking playground now. If I said
for the rest of their career, you can have Aunt
or you can have Luca, I.
Speaker 13 (25:14):
Think, well, Luca's gonna have the numbers. He's going to
have the triple doubles and the points and all that.
So statistically, Luca will.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
Have the numbers.
Speaker 13 (25:23):
But if you're just telling me all a playground, we're
at Rutger and there they both are standing, I'm going
with Anthony Edwards. But in terms of the body of
work and the numbers and all that, Luca will have
that at the end.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Of the day.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Did you ever go to a playground and they didn't
know who you were?
Speaker 5 (25:44):
I mean once I was professional.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
No, let's say college. Not really no, okay, now, but
like if you went to Rutger Park.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
I would love to go to Rutger Park. I might
get chased on a run, but I would love to
go to run.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Well, what was it like being in the garden and
you know the Pacers your team, and then Halliburton wears
a hoodie at a press conference with I mean you,
I just say.
Speaker 13 (26:16):
Something, people, I didn't play in the series New Yorkers.
Why are y'all dragging me? I didn't play in the series.
How am I a part of all this? I came
to do game two because that was asked of me.
My boss has said we want you doing this game.
We all have bosses, right Theodore. I can't say no,
(26:40):
call the game down the middle? How am I dragged in?
Speaker 5 (26:43):
So? Like I'm out there playing Game seven?
Speaker 2 (26:47):
I just love that Josh Hart comes over to tell
you what the fans are chanting, as if you couldn't
hear it. I mean, he goes, hey, rerech They're they're saying.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Fu oh gee, thank you John?
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Oh Is that what they're saying?
Speaker 13 (27:04):
Oh look, I expected that too. I understand that there's
a long.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
You're in their hand, you're in their hand, But here.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
They just like in Godfather, just when I thought I
was out, they.
Speaker 13 (27:18):
They pulled me back in and my boys from Indiana.
Thank you by young boys. They handle their business in
Game seven and we move on. Can you I wasn't
playing in the series guys, I'm fifty eight years old.
I had nothing to do with the series.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
The Knicks could have used you.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
The Knicks canna use it our shooting? I've seen you
shoot the Knicks. Counna use us? Oh man, that's bad? Okay?
Can you feel for them?
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Can you go into the Basketball Hall of Fame based
solely on a college career as a player. Now, what
I'm getting at is Christian Laitner's not in the Basketball
Hall of Fame one of the top five ten college
basketball players of all time.
Speaker 13 (28:11):
I'm guessing, Well, there's the answer to your question. No,
But I do believe he's in the college Basketball Hall
of Fame. But no, I don't think he will be
in the Naysmith Basketball Hall of Fame because his NBA
resume isn't like it was in college. So no, But
for instance, Grant Hill, Grant Hill was on his way
(28:32):
to becoming one of the all time great NBA players
before the ankle injury. Right, so he had a small
slither of NBA success, correct, because he was on his
way to becoming the face of the NBA. He had
won I believe was it two or three at Duke?
Did he win two championships or three championship and went two. Okay,
(28:52):
So he won two at Duke. So he had the
college basketball resume. He was on his way to becoming
one of the greats in the NBA. That's why he's
in the Nasmith Hall of.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Fame, Lightner's Hall, the book, Latner's Hall of Famer. Latner's
a Hall of Famer. It's your basketball career. It's the
Naysmith Basketball Hall of Fame. They don't differentiate between itt
you know, college and the pros. It's your collective body
of work there. College coaches go in. So is is
(29:26):
Latner to college basketball? What you know Jim Beheim is
to coaching in college basketball?
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Isn't behind in?
Speaker 14 (29:34):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (29:34):
So why isn't Latner?
Speaker 13 (29:38):
I think they are probably disregarding his NBA.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Do to your service, Hey, he wasn't. How many men
many years did he How many years did he play
in the league?
Speaker 2 (29:51):
He played like twelve thirteen years, Pauly, How long did
Latner play in the NBA?
Speaker 6 (29:56):
He played h He played fifteen season, fourteen seasons. He
did make one All Star game.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Can make an argument.
Speaker 13 (30:07):
You can make an argument because he's certainly one of
the top you said five, I would say he's one
of the top five college players of all time.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Yes, if it was. If it was the NBA Hall
of Fame, then no, he's not kidding it. But it's
the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
You make a strong argument.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Can you tell the story of college basketball without Christian Leetner?
Speaker 5 (30:30):
No, you cannot, Okay, you cannot.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
So I think Al Horford's going into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
We believe Al Horford is definitely going in.
Speaker 8 (30:39):
I do.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, and he's been on as many All Star teams
as you.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Yes, Drew Holliday going into.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
No basketball, no hall of very good reg I think Drew.
Speaker 13 (30:55):
Holliday, at the end of the day will have a
resume a lot like Joe Dumars.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah, but I don't think we looked at Drew Hollidays
the best player on his team, Like, how many times
did you ever look at well, he was the second
best player on his team. Yeah, you had Isaiah and
then you had Joe.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Oh, you had a young Rod.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Joe had to guard Mike.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
I mean, yes, Drew.
Speaker 13 (31:22):
Holliday is doing We're seeing the value of Drew Holliday
and why he He's always the first person picked on
the Olympic teams because he can guard one through four
or five.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Nobody plays defense in the Olympics. You don't need that.
And and Joe Dumars didn't play for other teams. Drew
Holliday has played for what four teams won.
Speaker 13 (31:40):
A championship in Milwaukee. They traded him for more offense
and saw what happened. He was position with Boston.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
Holiday is making the Natesmith Hall of Fair Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
All right, yes, Marvin, Joe Dumars six All Star appearances,
Oh so more than Reggie. Okay, his face, who's better.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Here's here's the thing.
Speaker 13 (32:04):
Remember, now, you're not making the All Star in the East.
During my time when Michael Jordan, Joe Jubars, Reggie Lewis
c Smith, I mean there was a number of shooting
guards that you there was only one spot because Michael
was making it every year. You knew that, and Joe
was coming off the Bad Boys, So those two were
(32:26):
always making it my first five or six years.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Yes, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (32:30):
My thing is I said you made it five times
over a ten year span, So that means for ten
straight years you were like right on the cusp of
being an All Star. If not making the All Star team?
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Are you back pedaling a little bit?
Speaker 15 (32:42):
Here?
Speaker 13 (32:44):
Hold hold on, Hey, don't listen to a marn They
just trying to cause a little bit of a score.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yeah, but then you also said, well five in ten years?
Well what did he do the other ten years he
was in the NBA? You've said that? So so I
mean a backhanded compliment in here somewhere is there? I
don't think there's a compliment him and Alf Horford? Okay, level, Marv,
(33:11):
Who do you want? You can have Joe Dumar's or
Reggie Moon.
Speaker 8 (33:15):
Reggie's close.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Sorry, I love Reggie. I might have to take Joe
if I gotta get somebody who's gonna go Joe?
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Does Joe have a horn in Lambier?
Speaker 2 (33:32):
You have the Davis brothers behind you? All right? Well,
great to catch up with you have fun tonight?
Speaker 13 (33:44):
And hey, wait, who won in our category? By the way,
because do I need.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
To do the color color on whom m LB tonight?
Speaker 15 (33:55):
What?
Speaker 13 (33:56):
Yeah, Marvin, I want you to come into my office
after the show.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
We have to talk.
Speaker 8 (34:05):
Yes, I will.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Sorry, Rachel, it's the Reggie Miller be on the call tonight.
It'll be eight thirty Eastern in Minnesota with Kevin Harland. Fritzigi,
give me a little Kevin Harland.
Speaker 8 (34:15):
I'm looking forward to a huge game with Reggie tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
This is the NBA on TNT, Stan Van Gundy and
Ali LaForce. We'll take a break. More phone calls coming
up back after this.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 10 (34:35):
WAP Strike three calls.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
He cuts his career high and strike out to ten,
one hundred eight pitches for Ranger Swars and what an ovation.
He is gone again. It has been a magical ride
for Ranger Suarez to start twenty twenty four. Pretty incredible
h NBC Sports fill I don't if you Rangers Suarez
(35:02):
pitches for the Phillies. He has at one point three
six ERA, the lowest by a Phillies pitcher in his
first ten starts since nineteen sixteen with Grover Alexander. He's
nine to oh. He's the first pitcher to start out
nine to oh with an ERA under one fifty in
ten starts since one Marishell in nineteen sixty six, where
(35:27):
the heck did this guy come from. He's twenty eight
first six seasons. He was twenty nine and twenty one
this season nine and oh in Era one point three seven. Hmmm,
something's up. A young pitcher coming into his own twenty eight,
(35:50):
youngish maybe maybe maybe learning he's crafty, learning his craft, yes,
learning his crafty. But yeah, that's some big numbers there. Now,
if you're the opposing manager, do you ask to have
them inspect his glove? Like, do you try to get
(36:12):
into his head?
Speaker 14 (36:13):
Now?
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Now, most of these guys get you know, you're randomly picked,
arbitrarily picked, not like first inning or second inning, whatever
it is, and then they check your glove because that,
you know, that's the whole thing. You know, are you
getting gripped on the ball, the spin, that whole whole thing.
I don't know if maybe it's just a great story,
you know, Rangers Suarez for the Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies, by
(36:38):
the way, they're off to a great start. They are
the first team to thirty five wins. I think something
like that. This year, you see Bryce Harper helped a
kid out with his high school prom, kind of spoke
on his behalf the prom posal. It's been nice if
he helped me with Jenny Batchie, although he would have
(37:00):
been alive back then. But I'm just saying go to
helped me, but did embarrass myself. But yeah, that's a
a bad start for the Phillies. There a couple of
phone calls in here. Danny in California, Hi Danny, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (37:16):
Hey Dan? Glad to talk to you. Yeah, a long time,
third time you all to talk lately about new faces
in the NBA. I got a stat of the day
for you. Out of the top fifteen contracts in the NBA,
only one player is still.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Playing, Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 14 (37:35):
Rudy Gobert, I believe is listed as number sixteen. No.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I had the list yesterday and it was Rudy Gobert,
who is like fourteenth. I'm not sure which list you're
looking at, but yeah, we had that stat yesterday that
Rudy Gobert one of the top fifteen salaries in the
NBA and the only person in that group still in
the NBA plays. Dave in San Antonio. Hi, Dave, what's
on your mind?
Speaker 14 (38:02):
Hey Dan? How you doing?
Speaker 9 (38:03):
Man? A long time? Just got two questions real quick.
I wanted to ask you one question and Dan answer question.
Speaker 14 (38:10):
Man.
Speaker 9 (38:11):
So obviously, as you see the landscape of you know,
uh talk radio and how things are happening. You haven't
won an Emmy yet, what would you change and then
their future to win that Emmy so that you could
get it? And Dan as if you could choose to
be on any other show to win an Emmy, would
you or would you stay with the with Dan Patrick show?
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Well, no other shows doing a radio show they get
even nominated for this. I mean we get nominated. We're
going against Sports Center and MLB Tonight. Uh, you know
those shows. Rich Island I think his show got nominated
one time as well, But the other shows don't get nominated.
I mean Jim Rome or Colin Cowherd or whoever it
(38:56):
might be that they're not nominated for this.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Yes, yeah, I mean we built this, Yeah, we built
this place. If we're not winning it here, I don't
want it. I'm not jumping on some other show and
we're like, hey, look I finally got I want it
for here because this is like what we did.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, I mean, you know McAfee his show is sort
of loosely based on how ours look, you know, not
the content. He does his own content, and he might
win a Sports Emmy with his popularity, his style. But yeah,
no other show is getting nominated for the most part.
I mean, we're the outlier. We're going against pardon the interruption,
(39:32):
Sports Center, MLB, probably another NBA tight whatever, you know,
heavy hitters here, and then our show. So just the
fact we got nominated five consecutive years says a lot
about the product that we have. But nobody's jumping to
any other and I wouldn't do anything different, not at all.
(39:53):
Mark and san Antonio, Hey, Mark, what's on your mind?
Speaker 15 (39:57):
I think Dan and Danett's thanks for taking my call.
I'm getting in on the Emmy conversation too. My suggestion
is to wear it like a badge of honor. I think,
you know, Jimmy Buffett never won an award or had
a number one hit. I would I would think along
the lines of the Treasure of the Sierra Madray and
(40:17):
just Emmys, Jimmy's we don't need no stinking Emmy's.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Thank you.
Speaker 14 (40:23):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Yeah, I'm I'm fine playing the underdog. The Dan hits
are not.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
So if you're you're the Jimmy Buffett of sportscasters.
Speaker 8 (40:31):
That's there.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
There are. We're the Jimmy Buffett of sports shows. Well,
you guys are the coral reefers. Jimmy Buffett and the
coral reefers. That's two of Jimmy Buffett mentioned in Two Days.
Speaker 6 (40:43):
By the way, I have bands who have never had
a number one hit single, dave It Yeah, are you ready?
No A d Bad Company, Black Sabbath. This has to
be nuts.
Speaker 14 (40:56):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
Bruce Springsteen had never had a number one single, number two,
that's nuts the clash.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Because his music is wow.
Speaker 6 (41:07):
Bob Dylan, he says, some good bands Crosby Stills, Nasty Purple, Eyello,
Grateful Dead, Green Day, Stay in your Lane, no number
one signals. There's tons more.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Okay, I don't know if it makes me feel any better.
Jimi Hendricks, are you experienced? Yeah? I still that doesn't
make me feel any better.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
Led Zeppelin never had a number one hit.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Things Stairway to Heaven was never number one.
Speaker 6 (41:32):
I got at four.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Okay, Well, there's still time. Final hour on the way.
What if nil came to professional sports, in particular the NFL,
That topic coming up
