Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, it's the final hour in this Wednesday. It's a
meat Wednesday because we're not here on Thursday and Friday.
Dan ants whined and moaned, and I said, okay, you
can have Thursday and Friday off. I'm going to show
up for work tomorrow, but these guys won't be here,
and apparently there won't be a show because nobody else
will be here. But I hope you guys are happy.

(00:25):
You just let down America. Todd, Are you proud of
yourself that you wanted to have Thursday and Friday off?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I don't know if proud is the word. I think
earned is the word.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I think we all can get.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Some days off throughout the year. I think we do
a lot of shows compared to like almost anyone else
in sports sportshow.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
Okay, yeah, see Dan, we've been letting America down for
fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
This weekend. That is different. That is true, all right?

Speaker 6 (00:50):
Yes, Marvin, I don't feel bad because I worked eighth
street years of every single holiday, so I earned it.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Oo.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
You got to work eight eight consecutive years of holidays.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
You got to do that. That's spoken like the owner
of a company right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah too. How
great is it that you get to do that?

Speaker 6 (01:12):
Yes, my managers at the mother Ship weren't there. Oh yeah,
I know that you get a big opportunity.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
Yeah, the big opportunity to we want to get you
in the chair see what you can do again, Because
that's just four Christmases in a row that you wanted
to see what I could do on Christmas? What about
all the other days of the year that you've tied
me in the chair that you wanted to see what
I could do?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
My wife would say, why are you working the holidays?
Aren't you supposed to be a big deal there? And
I go, I'm working the holidays? Is the big deal?
That's what they keep convincing me. It's a big deal.
Hey man, you're lucky. Get to work on Christmas. Okay,
I'll do it. Stat of the Day brought to you

(01:52):
by Panini America, the official trading cards of The Dan
Patrick Show. So it's a meat Wednesday, beef Wellington, cream spinach,
garlic and sage.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
With mashed potatoes. Who has it better than we do?
No body.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
I'm not a cream spinach guy. I like just the
regular spinach, just hardcore. Give me spinach, Give me some vinegar,
straight up, little salt and pepper. Cream spinach. Kind of
you're cheating. It's like when you put bacon on Brussels Sprounce,
Like you're just kind of cheating.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
You either have it or you don't. Yes, Paul, I.

Speaker 7 (02:25):
Thought, back in the day at Steak's steakhouses, you were
big on the cream spinach.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I like regular spinach. Sautee is what they like. Sawtage
spinach is what they call that. By the way, Clayton
Kershaw slated to pitch at home tonight against the White
Sox so going for three thousand strikeouts. He's got twenty
nine hundred and ninety seven, and he would be the
twentieth Major leaguer to reach three thousand.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
He's been pitching great.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
By the way, Shohetani homered in the six to one
win over the White Sox. He's hit at least thirty
home runs in five consecutive seasons, tied with Aaron Judge
for the.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Longest active streak in baseball. Stat of the Day, Stat
of the Days, stat of the Day, stat of the Day,
Here comes, here comes that?

Speaker 8 (03:16):
What Stat of the.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Stat of the Day, brought to you by Panatin America,
the official trading card said the Dan Patrick show you
slide into the weekend. King Sawaiian wants you to welcome summer.

Nathan's hot Dog eating Contest Joey Chestnut is back.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Over under.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
The record is seventy six hot dogs and will it
be broken?

Speaker 5 (03:52):
And how long?

Speaker 4 (03:53):
I don't know what's he got fifteen minutes? It's it,
seventy six hot dogs.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, he is an overwhelming favorite to win minus two thousand.
The second favorite, Patrick Bertoletti, is plus twelve hundred. But
the record of seventy six hot dogs, that's the over under, Yes, Paul.

Speaker 7 (04:15):
Joey Chestnut taking the year off with the hot dog
contest was akin to Jordan playing baseball, Houston Rockets stepping
in for Okay, noone's making that cop, all.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Right, So Joey Chestnut is back.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Wembledon. You know a lot of the top seeds on
the women's side lost early at Wembledon.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, I'm not thrilled about that. By the way, ten
minutes you have to eat.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
All the ten minutes.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I walked in today and we were talking about something,
but you know, road trip to Tahoe and the guest
list will have at Tahoe for the next week, and
Todd blurts out, did you realize a lot of the
top seeds have lost at Wembledon? And I go, what
is that have to do with going to Tamahoe. Oh,
I just didn't know, I said, Yeah, I've watched Wembledon.

(05:05):
Now I realize you're going to London. You're going to Wimbledon.
You realize that now, Well, I didn't know you're going
to Wimbledon.

Speaker 9 (05:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
We're gonna do two days at Wimbledon on Sunday and Monday,
the sixth and seventh.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Oh so, now you care about Wimbledon.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Now I care about well, okay, I always cared about Wildon,
I really care about.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Wilf Cocoa golf. Are you gonna wear all white?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, I'm gonna get souvenirs. I'll probably get a nice
Wimbledon hat and T shirt and whatever I wear, and
then I can always go change into the Wimbledon gear.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
The Mets Yankees Subway series. That's always entertaining, and both
teams are forty eight and thirty seven, although it feels
like the Yankees are a better forty eight and thirty
seven than the Mets.

Speaker 10 (05:44):
UH.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Saturday the Foeba World Cup. UH, Paris Saints your Main
against Byron Munich, Real Madrid against dortmun Yeah, the records.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
When those guys get together, those are heavyweights right there.
That's right, okay.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
So that's sliding into the weekend. Brought to you by
Kingswaiian Kingsawaiian dot com recipe inspur ration for you. Our
good buddy Jim Jackson is going to join us coming
up a few things. Talk to him about you know
that buyer beware. We hear that a lot. And the
Bucks went all in in twenty twenty three. They traded
a first round draft pick, multiple swops, and they gave

(06:25):
up Drew Holliday to bring in Dame Lillard. So this
was a blockbuster deal by NBA standards, blockbuster deal. It
just didn't work out the Achilles injury. The Bucks have
waived him nine time All Star be thirty six by
the time he plays again. The win now and then
you deal with the fallout when you don't win. Now,

(06:46):
everybody hoped for more there. This was Dame Lillard's chance
to he got out of Portland. Now you're going to
play in big games, You're going to be on national
TV a lot more. And just didn't work out. But
you know, he was away from his family and I
don't know if he and Jannis ever really clicked.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Maybe they didn't play long enough together to click. But
he will. He will be a factor.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I think in the playoffs next year, Dame Lillard, somebody
going to pick him up if he's healthy and he
just he's going to provide an impact. I really believe
that the Pistons Malik Beasley had quote financial issues prior
to the gambling investigation. So there's allegations of gambling on
NBA games, and he was on the verge of signing

(07:33):
a three or forty two million dollar deal. So they
brought in Duncan Robinson basically for around the same money.
He's an outside shooter as well, but he owes a
lot of money. Former marketing agency they say that he
owes him two and a half million dollars. I couldn't
pay back a six hundred and fifty thousand dollars loan

(07:56):
and maybe turned to gambling on NBA games to get
some of that money back. So there's a lot of
things going on here. And when the FEDS are investigating,
this is in the NBA. This is the FEDS. NBA
is going to try to distance themselves as best they can.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Sounds like one of those stories when somebody wins the lottery. Yeah,
and then you know, five years later they're like, dang,
how'd they get so broke?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
A couple of phone calls in here eight seven to
seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com Twitter
handle DP show. Not to lecture you while I lecture you,
but you know, you have the major sports books, we
have DraftKings, there's fan Duel, bet MGM, and because of them,
a lot of these violations get detected or the potential

(08:46):
for a scandal. You know, real time monitoring. You have
to do this because gambling is not going away. It's
more accessible than ever. But you have to have an oversight.
You have to have somebody who is going to be
watching all of this. And the league's credibility depends on this.
I don't know if this gets larger with Malik Beasley.

(09:08):
I don't know if other teammates are involved in this.
I don't know if, uh, you know, anybody on other
teams is involved in this. But there's a there's a
that's the potentially a huge problem here because you must
know what you're watching is real. We get more phone
calls about sports being fixed. It feels like when there's

(09:30):
a controversial call, it'll be like, well, they want them
to win, they don't like them.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
It's not fixed.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
But I do understand where you could you could jump
to that conclusion if you read about this. Now, how
did this affect games? Let's say Malik Beasley was throwing games.
You go back and you got to watch, and you
know they're they're now they're watching stretches when he's on
the floor, and the urgency that he played at and

(10:03):
the betting line, like just small things, man. And if
a betting line is seven and a half and all
of a sudden, you're racing to score a basket so
you can go up by eight, these are the things
that the feds are looking at. They're gonna look at
this almost frame by frame to see what he's doing,

(10:25):
how often he did it, and then you're gonna get
a paper trail as well. At some point it'll go
a whole lot deeper. David in Ohio, David, what's on
your mind?

Speaker 10 (10:39):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Damn?

Speaker 11 (10:39):
Happy meet Wednesday? Nobody what July forth coming up? Didn't
know who you thought at the show? Is your Jason
Pierre Paul with having maybe a fireworks accent or something
like that.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Okay, all right, I don't know if any of these
guys are fireworkers. Todd would definitely not be handling fireworks.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I'm enough trouble tying my shoe.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
I'm not playing that much. I could see Paul maybe
maybe being a fireworker.

Speaker 7 (11:10):
When I was young, I was big into it, like
with the kids in the neighborhood. But man, I've seen
some stuff in the past few years where it goes
the wrong way. Someone gets a little loose.

Speaker 8 (11:19):
I stay away.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I don't even like sparklers, like, I don't want. I
don't I'm not entertained by any of it. But then
you get people who are all in, Hey, you gotta
go over this guy's house. He's got fireworks, And I go, eh,
you know, how about I watched from a couple of
blocks away.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Yeah, we used to.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
I haven't gone in a few years, but we used
to always go to Cape Cod with my in laws
and my two brother in laws. We would all throw
in money and get just a gigantic box of fireworks.
You smoke a couple of cigars, you light the fireworks.
But we would go to this one beach and there's
a dozen families on the beach that all do the
same thing at the same time. So you have just

(11:56):
a massive fireworks display by all random people.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
It's awesome them. That's time. Oh needs you know, it's
a rogue, you know whatever they are.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
Isn't that life though, Dan, a rogue, whatever it is
all of a sudden.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, yeah, but I don't want to I don't want
to go where there could be a rogue firework, an
M eighty or whatever they're you know, yeah, a rogue.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
How about I just don't go there.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Then I I did decrease the possibilities of getting hit
by a rogue M eighty.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yes, you can drive on the highway or kind of
run across the highway, you know that, just to get
the highway experience. Leave it to the professionals and watch
the beauty from a distance.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Tom, You don't get that anywhere else. Yeah, we're gonna
bottle that. Nobody's getting that logan in Indiana High logan.
What's on your mind today?

Speaker 12 (12:49):
Well, I am one of the Pacer fans that's not
a fan of Miles Turner, and I feel like the
media and the fans are all like, Ah, the Pacer
screwed this, And I'm like, how can a guy say
he's loyal when he's offered twenty million dollars a year
to not be the top center in that I won't
even say he's one of the top centers in the NBA.
I mean, the guy barely could rebound. He was a

(13:10):
liability in the playoffs, and I just feel like all
the Pacer fans are absolutely like, oh, how can we
lose this guy? And it's like it's a business and
he's not holding up his end of the deal. So
I just wanted to vent my frustrations on that and
think I'm really mad that he screwed the Pacers because
we got no drafts capital, we got nests out of
a trade and he went to our rival.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah I know, I know, but if he's not a loss,
then don't fret. Like if you don't care about him,
then it's not a big deal. Now do you want
something in return, like a sign in trade? Okay, I
mean Miles Turner is he's a good player, potential to
be a good player. He's not your typical big man.

Speaker 7 (13:52):
Yes, he's kind of perpetually frustrating for me. I watch
a guy. He's got to be six eleven, two sixty
very he's never averaged more than seven and a half
rebounds a game. Ever, Russell Westbrook is a better rebound.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Uh, Zach and Knoxville, Hi, Zach, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (14:15):
Thanks you, thanks to shake my call. I just wanted
to give Marv a little more love on that Matilda line.
That was hilarious. And Dylan, Dylan always looks like that
picture of El Choppa when they're pulling him out.

Speaker 5 (14:29):
Of that hole.

Speaker 10 (14:30):
Yeah. Yeah, And I just wanted to ask Fritzi is
he going over there to Wimbledon to watch or is
he going to play? I mean he was second though.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Yeah, you are our resident tennis experts.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
They have that t Fritz, that tailor Fritz.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah, no relation, no relation.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
I think he went five steps the other day they
had to go into the next day because they got
late and they over two days. He won in the
fifth step. I'm hoping he'll still be around by the
time I get over there to watch him play. But
no relation.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Okay, yeah Todd going over to Wimbledon, going over to London.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
I was a little surprised at that.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
I was on the tennis team barely in high school,
so I.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Have a where are you on the tennis team?

Speaker 3 (15:13):
I had a tennis jacket, okay, and I won like
the Courage Award or whatever kind of community spirit award.
There was some kind of spirit award. At the dinner,
everyone got their trophies, and the coach called me over
because I was cheering every very good while everyone was
actually playing.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
That's nice.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
I was there. I went to all the practices. I'm like,
nice shot forty love.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
Let's go, Yeah, one more, you'll win the game.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
One of my children won like a spirit award.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
We went to you know, the awards banquet, and they're
handing out all of these, uh, the math honors goes
to my kids didn't win any of those things. And
then I remember one of my daughters won the Spirit award,
and I went, all right, you know, a friend of ours.
Their daughter won like five of these and uh for
the best science, the best math and English. And then

(16:01):
you know, let's saying kid ends up going to Dartmouth
or Yale. You know it's like, all right, show off, Hey,
my kid has spirit. We got spirit? Yes we do,
we got spirit? How about you?

Speaker 8 (16:13):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (16:13):
I want to hear something more sad. I once won
Greade School Football Most Improved Player. I didn't play the
previous season. It was my first year. I had nothing
to improve upon.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Will you improved from the beginning of the year to
the end of the year.

Speaker 7 (16:26):
I didn't trust me if you wasch I got most
improved player who didn't play before. By the way, Wimbledon etiquette,
I'm looking at the London Evening standard. Technically no dress
code for Wimbledon, but there really is. They say smart, casual,
light colors, wear nothing dirty todd do not wear jeans.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
I will not wear jeans. I'm going to try to
wear it at least at the very least very nice
shorts like you know, not like sweatpants, shorts like Jesse shorts.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
The collared shirt would be nice. Collared shirt would be nice.
No Bronco gear, No Bronco gear.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Okay, I think I'm gonna wear a damn Patrick Show
hat with everybody's permission. There, that's what I packed.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Anyway, let's be nice, you know, maybe a cutaway and
then they, yeah, maybe ESPN will go, oh, there's a
Todd Fritz Chris Fowler's doing, you know, play by play.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Maybe I want to get a shout out for the
Why don't.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
You tell Chris Fowler you're gonna be there and just
say hey, I'm gonna be there, you know, just in
case you see me.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
I may even go hat and the damn Patrishow shirt.
I may just go double and then my wife will
teach me all you're trying to get noticed or recognize something,
but I'm trying.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
To know that's screams that screams ugly America is.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, yeah, I would do the hat maybe maybe, but
collared shirt and uh, those those chihuahua hairless legs that
you have kind of.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yell when they're about to survey the usually don't like that.
There's a whole quiet Please can't.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, don't yellow get in a hole. Okay, just don't
do that. Alright, let's take a break. Jim Jackson's going
to join us coming out. We're back after this and
the damn Patrick Shawm.

Speaker 1 (18:00):

Speaker 2 (18:42):
NBA title odds, the Thunder is still the big favorites.
The Rockets were seven fifty plus seven to fifty. Now
their plus seven hundred as the second favorites. Then the Cams, Nicks, Nuggets, Timberwolves.
The Lakers were plus fifteen hundred yesterday They're now plus
sixteen hundred MVP. Odds it's still Joker and SGA, and

(19:03):
then third is Giannis, then Luca Anthony Edwards. What about
Jalen Brown? Maybe it is a dark horse. MVP gonna
have an opportunity to take a lot of shots there.
He's going to put up some numbers there to bring in.
Jim Jackson Fox Turner, NBA college basketball analyst in nineteen
ninety two, the fourth pick overall by the Maps, played

(19:26):
fourteen seasons in the NBA. You are free agent a
couple of times. How does it work young in your career,
when or older in your career of where you're going
to go and why you choose a certainty?

Speaker 13 (19:42):
That's a great question then, and then it depends too
on your leverage. A lot of it too is leverage
wise what's available in the market. Okay, because ideally you
want to pick and choose where you go as a
free agent, but unfortunately, for a lot of guys that
don't have leverage, you don't have those options. So a
lot of times you're kind of put to a place

(20:02):
in a situation where it may be where a need
is there, but it may may not be the best
opportunity because you don't have the leverage to get to
maybe Team eight that you wanted to get to because
their options were already taken up. And for me, after
I injured my ankle my third year and got traded

(20:25):
to the Nets right when my contract was expiring, well
after I went then I went to Philly. Then I
was the first time I was a free agent was
after my Golden State year, But I was after some trades,
and where to go.

Speaker 8 (20:41):
Was a little bit challenging because.

Speaker 13 (20:45):
The options weren't there as much as let's say, if
I it was three years before before my injury, I
would have had a lot more options, and then I
could have leaned into that leverage to kind of navigate
where I wanted to go. So it really depends on
the play of the situation, where they're at in their career,
and then what's available in the marketplace, because you know

(21:06):
it dan a lot of times. If you're on the
front end of the free agency kind of run, then
you got some really good options. If you're on the
back end of that free agency room, when there's not
a lot of slots, not a lot of roster spots available,
not a lot of places that have money, then you're
kind of stuck with what's available. A lot of times

(21:26):
they can work, but a lot of times it may
not working in favor.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Did you ever pick a spot a place just to
live because you like the location, the weather?

Speaker 8 (21:35):
You say, Miami? What did you say?

Speaker 2 (21:39):
But would you rather play in Miami or visit Miami?

Speaker 13 (21:45):
Well, you know, at the time because of pat Riley
played because he was an iconic coach at the time
and the franchise was still coming off the back end
of those competitive Eastern Conference playoffs with New York and Indiana.
Lonzo Morning was a really good friend of mine. We
came in the draft together. But then also too, I
didn't have a lot of options. I had options, but

(22:07):
not a lot. That was the best of the few
that I had and that made the most sense. So plus,
they didn't have any state tax. Now I wasn't there.
I had a couple of coffee there. But I will
say this is one of the best decisions I made
because from an organizational perspective, they still treat me like
I was there, you know, five or eight, ten years.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Do you have all your jerseys from all your stumps?

Speaker 8 (22:29):
Yeah, I got, I got, I'm missing one.

Speaker 13 (22:31):
Damon Stodomar still has my Portland jersey and I keep
telling him, Bro, send me my Portland jersey. I don't
know what he's doing with it. So my mom has
them all. So that's a lot of collectibles right there
in the base. How many teams twelve?

Speaker 12 (22:47):
Dang?

Speaker 8 (22:48):
I know, man, Hey, you know, I never would have
thought it.

Speaker 13 (22:50):
I mean again, it's here's here's the duality of that though, Dan,
It's allowed me now.

Speaker 8 (22:56):
Going into I thought it was gonna be a married
for life.

Speaker 13 (22:58):
The injury happened, some other things happened free agency, short
term deals, a little longer deals. But throughout that course
I played with some outstanding, some Hall of Fame players.
I played in some great cities, played for some great teams,
and more importantly, met a lot of great, outstanding business
people that I never would have met if I was

(23:20):
just in one city. So I had to get my
mind wrapped around, Okay, if I'm going to be here
and I'm going to move around, how can I benefit
outside of the game of basketball. And that's what I did.
So it was a blessing in disguise long term, but
short term, you know, it did impact, you know, my
overall playing.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Career, Jim Jackson, Fox Turner, NBA college basketball analyst Lebron
James had Kevin Durant on his podcast and he said
that Durant's one of the few guys. He brought up
Steph Curry that when he takes a shot, he's surprised
when it doesn't go in. Is there anybody you would

(23:59):
put on that list in today's NBA? And then we
can expand that to former players that when they take
a shot, you're surprised it didn't go in.

Speaker 8 (24:09):
Now those are the two. Really.

Speaker 13 (24:13):
SGA is getting to that point to where, especially when
it gets to his mid range, it's like, oh, I
can't believe he missed a shotw like that ended the
game in the series is Indiana. When he missed the shot,
It's like he got to a spot. And that's all
you want to do as a player. Can I get
to my spot, get up to where I need to
be and get the shot I want, not what the
defense dictates. And when you talk about Steph, you talk

(24:36):
about KD, talking about MJ, you talk about now SGA.
Those guys know how to navigate the defense good enough
to get to their spot, not whether they make it.
It's whether the defense is involved or whatever. But the
question is make or miss. As a player, this is
the mindset you have. Did I get my shot? Did
I get to where I wanted to get to? And

(24:57):
if that's the case, you can live with the result.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
Would you rather guard Durant or Steph Curry if you
had to choose between the two?

Speaker 13 (25:05):
Durant, Oh, definitely, and not because Steph is better. Steph
runs too much. Man gotta take I mean, if he's
running two miles a game, that means you're running two
miles a game, you know what I mean chasing him,
let alone what you're.

Speaker 8 (25:21):
Doing on the offensive end. And that's it. That's like,
what would you rather guard?

Speaker 9 (25:25):
Why?

Speaker 13 (25:26):
I can't say that, m J or Reggie. I rather
guard Reggie. Let me take that, Let me take that.
But Reggie rich rip Hamilton the same way. It was
certain guys that put so much pressure on you because
of their constant movement that they may not have been
Maybe you hear trash out there. They come to get
some trash, had to throw away outside.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
There's a lot of jerseys they can pick up, hey, hey,
more than jerseys.

Speaker 8 (25:51):
And that tras ever, didn't beat's a heavy heavy band
out there.

Speaker 13 (25:54):
But those are the guys, you know what I mean
that that give that give guys like meet trouble because defensive,
I can get up into somebody, I can use my
strength that or movement. But when you're constantly moving, running
off the strings, those are the toughest guys to go.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I would love Lebron to ask Kevin Durant this question,
m M, do you think you're better than me?

Speaker 8 (26:18):
I don't think Lebron would do that.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
I know, but I would love for him to do
it because I'd love to know what Durant would say.

Speaker 8 (26:24):
Hopefully he would say yes, okay, but that's I mean yes,
I mean because and it's no disrespect.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
No, Because I would say, do you think you're better
than me? You can say yes, then I can say
why and.

Speaker 8 (26:38):
He can break down the area.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Yes, yes, I now granted, you know, as the host,
like if I had Bob costas ho or you know,
throw out somebody Mike Greenberg, I'm not I wouldn't ask
do you think you're better than me?

Speaker 8 (26:51):
Because what would you ask him?

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Well, I don't know if anybody really cares like we're
different in what we do well Lebron and Katie play basketball.
I mean that's different. I like my show and what
you do? You know all those things.

Speaker 8 (27:05):
That's different.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Do I think I'm better than Bob?

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yes, at certain things, and then he's better than me
at certain things. But I mean, that's not interesting to
the audience, but Katie and Lebron, Like when I asked
Steph Curry, this is probably ten years ago, and I said,
do you think you're a better offensive player than Lebron?
And he said yes, and it went viral. People went crazy,

(27:29):
and I'm going, it's not crazy, But you know, Steph
says he's better than Lebron offensively. I would just love
to know if Katie would say, this is why I'm
better than you? And I would love to have that
discussion because then Katie's going to say, do you think
you're better than me? And then you turn it around
and you go why. I think you could have a

(27:49):
fun conversation between two of the all time greats. Now,
it might be rude for Lebron to say that.

Speaker 8 (27:56):
But how about Steve. Steve n ask and ask the question.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
He can't. He can.

Speaker 8 (28:01):
He can play the bulk in between.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
He can bring it up like.

Speaker 13 (28:04):
This Dan like, it's been this conversation like who's better
between the two of you, you know, and Kat I'll
start with you if you're if you think you're better
than Lebron, then then why and vice versa. And now
you've got this engaging conversation that's not started by Lebron,
but it's a mediator in between, which is Steve Nash,

(28:24):
and he sparks that conversation.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
I like that. I'm gonna give you a plauge.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
We have another guy I know nobody else.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Nobody else can Marvin.

Speaker 8 (28:35):
I'm used. I'm used to it. There's only one person
that's my mom giving me. I'm used to that.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
What is Lebron getting at or Rich Paul getting at?
Where they're talking about we need to win now?

Speaker 13 (28:47):
For Lebron, Well, it's it's it's true in some aspects
because you know he's at the back end of his
career and you put a lot of pressure on Rob
Polinka and management. Now you've got new management come in
that they have to make some moves. They got to
spend some money to do it. And that's the thing
because now you got all this influx of new money,

(29:07):
new ownership, and if you want the Lakers, well, you
want the Lakers to continue to be kind of a
marquee franchised, you got to spend some money. Look at
the teams that have won NBA titles, they spent money. Now,
OKAC is a little bit different because they've built their
organically and didn't have to have a big salary cap
and payroll because a lot of the guys were young.

(29:27):
But from the perspective of a Golden State of Milwaukee,
teams like that that now are Boston that were in
that first apron and now the second apron, you had
to spend some money. You had to go out and
overpay to get talent to win it, and then once
you win it, you can re evaluate where you want
to move to the future. Because that's what Boston is

(29:48):
doing right now. Boston is basically on a salary dump.
They're trying to get underneath that two thirty million dollar threshold,
so to give them some leverage a couple of years
down the line.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
NBA MVP ons for next TI season m Joker and
SG A. Yeah, then it's Jiannis Luca Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Who would you think.

Speaker 8 (30:10):
I think s he is going to be the front
runner again.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Yoke is it's tough to go back to back.

Speaker 13 (30:18):
But as okay, I mean Bird did it, Moses Malone
did it. I mean Steve Nash did it, and Steve
Nash didn won the title. You know what, they had
the best record, you know, one of those.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
Years I see, I think Luca, I think it.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
I think it's Luca's Do you think it's Luca in
La because he's gonna Okay, we've given it to Joker,
what three times SGA just won.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
They don't like to do that again.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Maybe it's Yannis with a different roster there. I mean,
he put up incredible numbers. I don't see Anthony Edwards,
but I think Luca in shape, high profile team and
now all of a sudden, like dn't won an MVP.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
It focused. It feels like this sets up for Luca
to be your MVP.

Speaker 13 (31:04):
Well refocused, Luca, a more definitive focused. I got in shape.
I stayed in shape because remember Luca came into camp
in shape, and that means the Lakers are winning. Okay,
from that perspective, they're right in the hunt. See all
those things. I think factory when you start talking about

(31:26):
MVP and Luca, this may be what happened with the
trade long term, maybe the best thing for Luca, because
I believe, and as he should, he probably felt untouchable
in Dallas.

Speaker 8 (31:40):
He can do whatever he wanted to do in Dallas
that they.

Speaker 13 (31:42):
Weren't going to trade him. You know, he had earned
a little bit of that, a lot of that because
of you took him to a conference you know, finals,
took him to championship game. He did all of those
things at a young age. So it's hard not to
kind of think that. But this may be the reset
that he needs psychologically because I was I was watching

(32:03):
something damn when they show look at at nineteen twenty
years old, how he looked, how his body looked, how
he moved, totally different player. If he gets back to
a similar to that, watch out, it's different, and his
mindset is going to be different. How he plays is
going to be a little bit different, and his impact
on the game and winning, not that he hasn't won,

(32:24):
because obviously what I just talked about is winning, getting
to a finals and getting to a Western Conference final.
But I think that that reset probably is what he
really needed.

Speaker 8 (32:34):
At the time. So we're gonna see how it plays out.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Is it tough to stay in shape during the season.

Speaker 8 (32:41):
No, I mean not for a guy like that that's
playing all the time.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
But you think about travels.

Speaker 13 (32:46):
I mean, you got training. Listen, let me tell you something.
I travel with the Clippers. You got any and everything
you need to be a top tier athlete.

Speaker 8 (32:59):
You got your trainers to work out with. During the day.

Speaker 13 (33:01):
You have the set meals, okay, whether that's the breakfast
in the morning, the brunch, have to shoot around, the
dinners at night. But it just goes back to discipline
at the end of the day. Are you disciplined enough
to understand one your sleep is important, to your nutrition
is important, okay, and three taking care of your body Okay.

(33:22):
Throughout the season you're not practicing as much, so that
means that you have more time to take care of
your body. And that falls upon the individual player because
everything basically that a player needs is there at their
choosing when, how, where, and how much. If you choose
not to mentally stay engaged and be disciplined, then that's

(33:46):
a you problem. And I think that's something that Luca
got too comfortable with a little bit more in Dallas.
It came that's like Desigon. It came so easy for
them to dominate at the size in which they were
that they were like, eh, you know, if I have
a beer over here, or I have this, or I
eat this, I could still run it off and be okay.
But long term, those injuries start to pile up. You're

(34:07):
not playing as well, you're not on a quart as much.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
But who's conditioning worries you more? Luca or Zion?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Zion and and I don't know if enough people are
focused on that.

Speaker 13 (34:18):
They were Zion changed though, he changed his body. Okay,
he changed his body. Both both concerned me. But I
think Luca, I don't know, it's something about him. I
think this right here, this this move over, the over
you know, last season and then going into this summer

(34:40):
with all these questions, I think this was a little
bit different. Zion is still in the same place.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Zion doesn't have a role model there. Luca's got Lebron, Yes,
that's right. That that all he has to do is
look at Lebron and say, that guy that continues to
play at a high level. He's in shape, he is,
you know, he doesn't get although he got banged up,
you know, last in the postseason with his rights. Yeah,
but it doesn't happen very often. Hey, it's great to

(35:08):
connect with you again always. Thanks thanks for joining us.
Hopefully they get all your garbage there outside.

Speaker 8 (35:14):
You know what.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Would be garbage time for you?

Speaker 8 (35:18):
I think garbage time.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
Nothing wrong with that. Get in the game, get some
shots off. Jim.

Speaker 8 (35:24):
Hey, I was about to throw my clubs in the
other day, but I played well. I took him. I
took him out the bitch.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Thank you, Jim. That's Jim Jackson works for Turner and Fox.
It's fun. Yeah, what's how many stops? Twelve? Twelve different teams?
He probably had a couple of repeaters on there, didn't
he marsh.

Speaker 6 (35:44):
He did, but they was He's he was a bucket everywhere.
He averaged fifteen points for his entire career.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
I'll take that absolutely.

Speaker 6 (35:53):
That many teams. He feels like he's probably a contract casualty.
Like you know, he was expensive, so we had to
trade him.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Yeah, I would feel like all these teams wanted me. Hey,
they want me. Uh, that's it. Last call for phone calls.
What we learn what's in store tomorrow. I'm gonna go
out and check out the Tregger grills on this meet Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
After this, be sure to catch the live edition of
The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Last call for.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Phone calls, what we learned, what's in store for tomorrow
even though we won't be here tomorrow or Friday, and
then we're going to Tahoe. A great guest list so far,
uh Fritzi is working the phones to get some fun
people on. If I think the comedian Nate Bargatzi.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
I think he's going to be part of things next
Friday in Tahoe. Okay, he's a hot ticket these days.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
Oh I know.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Is I could run down the whole list of guests
we can have on and then I got to Nate
and my kids were like, is he gonna be Are
you gonna talk to him? You're gonna see him? Like, yeah,
probably gonna be there. Okay, So, as you've come to expect,
we'll have a lot of the movers and shakers out
there Tahoe the American Century Golf Tournament, and that'll be

(37:10):
next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Okay, So Tahoe is next week,
next Thursday a week from tomorrow, it's the Celebrity Family
Feud that'll be on ABC, and it'll be The Dan
Patrick Show versus The Rich Eisen Show, and it'll be

(37:31):
prime time.

Speaker 8 (37:33):
Both teams have fun.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
Yeah, yes, do.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
We know if we're the opening act of the second
half hour. That's not clear whether we're the first show
or the second game show of that Thursday night at the.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Time, I just know that it's Taraji p Henson versus Hudson.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
Jennifer Hudson. You might want to lead with that. I guess.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
I'd be more happy to take on the winner if
if we beat Rich Eisen. You know we have to
win that though, so don't we don't know the results
from it. You know they're still tabulating that on a
who won. I think you'll be surprised. I hope you'll
be entertained, and maybe you'll be more entertained than surprised.

(38:17):
But I think our personalities stood out. I think Marvin
and Fritzy had a really good day. I think a
really good day, and I did go in with a
philosophy that we didn't want to pass on the opportunity
to do all the clues, to try to answer the
question because that meant more airtime for us. That even

(38:40):
if it went to rich eisen As they were trying
to steal it, even if they stole it, they were
only on camera for thirty seconds with that. So that
was the philosophy. It's like, no, let's answer all of
these We're gonna milk all the camera time that we can.
And we got a lot of We got a lot
of FaceTime there. But Marvin and Fritzy did a wonderful job.

(39:00):
This day in sports history, what do you have?

Speaker 7 (39:03):
Paul A Rod became the third youngest player to be
selected to the American League All Star Team DAN who
were the two All Stars NL or AL They were
younger than a Rod when they were selected, Dwight Goodin
and Ken Griffy Junior Wow. And then nineteen ninety five

(39:24):
Hideo Nomo first Japanese born player selected for the All
Star Team.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
All Right, On this day two thousand and eight, Seattle
Sea Hawnics SuperSonics became the Oklahoma City Tho. Yeah, they
got rebranded, they relocated and then they rebranded, they.

Speaker 8 (39:47):
Got their championship.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
Now go back to Seattle.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
Let's go around the room. What we learned on the program, Todd,
what'd you learn today Germain.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
O'neils welcome to the NBA moment having to go up
against Hakima.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
Elaija want Yeah, that his footwork was so great, Seaton?

Speaker 5 (40:00):
What you learned we should have Germaine O'Neil back on.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
He was very good?

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Yeah, very good. We've had a you know, Vincent Goodwill's
been very good. Jim Jackson's good. What'd you learn, Seaton?

Speaker 4 (40:12):
I learned that Germaine o'eil we should have him back show.

Speaker 6 (40:15):
Okay, all right, Marvin Fritz, you want a spirit award
in high school?

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (40:19):
Baby, Paul, no jeans at Wimbledon?

Speaker 4 (40:23):
No, no jeans?

Speaker 8 (40:24):
Todd?

Speaker 4 (40:25):
What did I learn?

Speaker 3 (40:25):
Fit in my jeans? Gentlemen? You think Dylan on the
kitchen cam looks like a cross between Steeles Legend frank
O Harris and Gabe Kaplan from Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Cotter there, Thanks for joining us. Hope you were entertained today.
