Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the final hour in this Monday Dan and the
Dan Ats Dan Patrick Show. Best and Worst of the weekend.
We will give you hours coming up. Also, we're looking
for a name for my boat. Stat of the Day
brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of The Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Seaton.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
The pole question from our two and what are you
going to go with an hour three?
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Well, let's see. We got up there who had the
worst weekend? Men's USA Basketball? Women's USA Basketball?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Right now?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Sixty one percent saying the men's That is a lot
closer than you think.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
It would be.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Then it should be yeah, yeah, because I mean the
women they lost to the All Stars, but it's basically
two All Star teams, right, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I think that women's team, the All Stars would beat
everybody else in the world for gold medal.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
We're also putting up there who had the best weekend?
WNBA or Lebron both good weekends.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Lebron with the clutch game winning shot to beat South
Sudan forty five point underdogs. You know, I was wondering
about this with Lebron, He's going to be the flag
bear opening ceremonies and voted on by fellow Olympians. And
I was wondering, you know, in the Olympic spirit of
amateur athletes, those who you know, only get this stage
(01:22):
maybe once every four years. If they're lucky, maybe you
get you know, you're able to do it a couple Olympics.
But Lebron's got everything, Like, if you're going to give
it to Olympians, it's those Olympians that we don't hear
about when the games are over with. That's what surprised me.
Now you might say, everybody on the basketball team got
(01:45):
together and go all right, let's give it to Lebron.
We'll give it to Lebron. Give it to Lebron. So
there's twelve votes there. Did anybody get anywhere near that?
Simone Biles, Katie Ladecci, That's probably where I'd go. So
one of those two will probably be there for the
opening ceremony. But Lebron is going to be the flag
bear for the Olympic Games. What's the poll question for
(02:08):
the final hour? Seaton okun, which season would you rather have?
Scheffler or Schoffley? Okay, Schaffley has two majors. I don't
know if anybody understands if he's done anything other than
winning those two majors, winning the PGA in the Open Championship,
(02:28):
and then Scotty Scheffler. I think he's won what four
or five times?
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Paulie Scotti scheffer is one major, he won five other
tournaments and still pretty early in the season. He has
twenty eight million in earnings. Xander Schaffley two majors out
of four, no other wins on the tour. Okay, thirteen
million in earnings. Give me a major, Give me two majors,
Give me two majors. I understand. You know, Scheffler is
(02:55):
the considered the best golfer in the world, but he
has not played well recently, doubled the earnings of Xander Schoffley.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Would I would take a second major.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I would take a second major.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
And I think Scotty Scheffler would take a second major
if I said, hey, you want a trade, but it'd
be great to have him on and ask him that.
Or Xander Shoffley if he joins US, I'd say, hey,
you know you got two majors, or do you want
Scheffler with what he did? Although we do recognize Scheffler
as the best golfer in the world. Didn't putt like that.
(03:33):
But Xander Schoffley, he was lights out, man. It was
almost methodical. It's one of those where you go, it
doesn't matter anytime they'd show a golfer and he'm forty
foot for Bertie and he would, you know, never make it.
And but just like all right, lean by two, leading
by three, here he is, another shot. All right, there
you go, another shot. There you go, there you go,
(03:54):
there you go. It was just he's just coming and
it is relentless, and everybody else was falling to the wayside.

Best and Worst of the weekend, Marvin, I'm gonna start
with you.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Best of the weekend. The WNBA. I think they did
everything right this weekend. They had page backers there who
was not even in the WNBA yet. But they're already
getting you prepare for their next superstar. Cheryl Swoops other
players legends like that. Worse of the weekend Team USA
shooting seven for twenty eight from three point range against
South Sudan.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
No good, no Seaton.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Best and worst of the week.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
My best of the weekend is Giants manager Bob Melvin
getting tossed before the start of the game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
That's always a treat. That's hard to do.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, hard to do it is, Ah, it is.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
It's tough to do.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Apparently some tension had been simmering between mister Melvin and
the umpires throughout the weekend. I think there was a
phantom hit by pitch call where Melvin had a great
quote where he said something along the lines of I
don't like I've never seen an umpire talk a bat
her into the fact that he was hit by the pitch.
They're usually like, oh, yeah, I got hit And he
(05:08):
had to talk him into no, no, no, take first, you
were hit by the pitch, trust me, go go do it.
That's pretty amusing and also my even more bester Zendershoffley
winning it was another one of those times where he
doesn't win too too much. But when you see that
he went.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
You're like, oh, look he did it. He did it again,
and we just had him on the show and that
was kind of fun.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Yeah, he's turned into a guy that you root for
a little more.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yes, ton is it possible.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
Bob Melvin had family plans that he couldn't get out
of it, and he's like, I gotta find a way.
I can't be here the next three hours and the
I'm gonna get.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Myself thrown out there, Come on, Todd. I promised my wife.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
We were gonna go to lunch and the kids are
back from wherever I got it.
Speaker 7 (05:41):
I can't be here today.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Usually those things happened because there's something that happened previously
that you know, to get thrown out before the game
starts means something happened in the previous game and maybe
it wasn't resolved, and Bob Melvin getting getting tossed. Now
there have been There was a manager who told me
he got thrown out of a game on purpose once
(06:05):
he didn't feel well and he got thrown out. And
he even said when he went out there, he goes,
you know to the umpire, you got to run me.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
You got to run me.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
And then you know, the the umpire doesn't want to
look bad either that he's going out of his way
to throw somebody out. You got to make sure that
you the umpire made the right call. But this manager
said that he wasn't feeling well because of the night before.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Having some beverages. Apparently, Yes, Tom.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
I heard he got run because he had the runs.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
That is not that is not the case. That's not
what I want. He he was overserved, I think, and
wanted to be run, all right, Paulie, Best and worst
of the weekend.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
On Friday night, I was me entering through the channels
on CBS Sports Net was the Arena Football League title game,
the championship game. I didn't even know the Arena League
was still in business because I had they had contracting
teams during the season. The DAN I'm sorry, but your
Albany Firebirds lost to the Billings Outlaws forty six to
forty one in a shootout. But the game was played
near the Meadallands, not at the Medal, not at the
(07:14):
Metal Lands. Near the Metal Lands. The game, the Arena
Bold Championship was played at a mall, American Dream Mall
in New Jersey. There's like this courtyard area that is
not actually the length of a typical Arena League field.
Speaker 7 (07:27):
They had to make it smaller.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
It was played in the mall, so it wasn't a
regulation indoor football league field.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Not to my standards and I was watching the game.
So if you were going to the mall to like
go to Saphor and get some stuff for your daughter,
you could just walk over and see the team's battling.
If you went to Sborrow to get a slice, there's
the game. They had to scramble to find a field.
They also had to scramble to find a TV partner,
and this is what they come up with. American Dream
Mall in New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Now that is a big mall.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Huge.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I think they got like like a like an amusement
park in there, like a huge slide that you can
see from the highway. There.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
There was a triple decker of levels for you to
look down and watch the field. But people are just
walking by and there's like a babies are us and
you're walking by and so watching some championship football.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
It would have been great if the play by play
announcer would have said, if somebody instead of at the
you know, he's at the ten, he's at the fifteen,
he's at the twenty. You know, he said, babies are us,
he's at tomorrow, he's at the wild Wings.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
Have Johnson make a left at the Sabarrow he's gonna scar.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
Yes, Tom, even the coin was Head's Orange, Julius tails
k Jewelers. Let's get a go on.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Then we'll meet at Build a Bear after the game
of Party, every kiss begins at Kate.
Speaker 7 (08:39):
That's best and worse?
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Okay, all right, wild.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Todd, did you give me yours? I have not?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Okay? Best?
Speaker 6 (08:45):
On Saturday at the Open Championship, see who Kim gets
an ace two hundred and thirty eight yard seventeenth hole,
first hole in one. During the ten times the Open
was played at Royal Troon, the seventeenth hole is famously
called Rabbit, as many considered to be one of the
more difficult short holes on the course. Worst of the
weekend pick before me at halftime WNBA All Star Game, No.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Man, I don't.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I didn't appreciate Pitbull halftime. I was hoping for maybe
somebody different, but I wouldn't say it's the worst of
the weekend.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Yes, so this is a question for you and Fritzy. Okay,
So who would you, guys have wanted to perform halftime
at the WNB All Star Game.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
I gave you mind Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodriga wearing each
other two Jersey realistically?
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Uh Beyonce, I said, really, well, well go ahead. Uh.
Ed Sheeron, how was it? Maybe someone like Nelly, someone
who had a run.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
How about Usher?
Speaker 4 (09:42):
It would be funny if you sat down and you
were like, all right, let's see what's going on WNBA
All Star Game halftime and Ed Sheeron walked out and
you were like, that's what I'm talking Yeah, and Shearon,
now we're talking.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Okay. Usher has a residency. He did show up to
give Asia Wilson a hug. I think that was earlier
in the in the week. I'd been nice if USh
gets out there and gives me a little bit. But
did the Super Bowl correct? Yeah? Yeah, Oh, he's too
big that he can't do halftime with the w NBA
(10:13):
All Star It's.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Possible that some I'm not saying you, some people might
be overvaluing the real estate that is the w NBA
All Star Game halftime show.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I don't know. We got all these celebrities showing up
courts had more eyeballs on the game.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
It's possible that it's being overvalued slightly slightly.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
I see what Setan's saying that I'm maybe looking too
hard into this. But if you look at the demographic
that's watching that game, that seems like the demographic you
want spending money on your product or products. I actually
think Fritzy's idea. I don't know who Samantha Carpenter is,
but she plays to a younger audience. I'm guessing that
seems like someone who would work on that. She's a
big deal. Now, okay, yeah, she's a big deal.
Speaker 7 (10:53):
That might work in this group, which plays to younger females.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Just pitt poll surprise, that's all.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yes, Mark, And if your usher's team, do you even
give that any thought? That'd be a real downgrade. No
disrespect to the WNBA, But going from the Super Bowl
to the WNBA All Star Game, that's not gonna work,
especially if you just did it. Is that like, oh,
she did the Super Bowl ten years he showed up
at the event. Yeah, showing up there and performing at
(11:21):
halftime are two different things. Pit Bulls like, yes, yes,
I will do it. Yes, I've been sitting here in
Miami just saying.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Dalay, DJ Collin and pit Bull another one. I'll just
go Pitbull, Oh you see, I don't know, I see
DJ Collin. Whoever his PR person or agent is, they
do an incredible job of getting him out there. He's
he's involved in a lot, and I don't know what
(11:49):
he does.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Is he a producer?
Speaker 6 (11:52):
I think he produces some music. I think we've been
brainwashing the thinking when we hear that.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Name DJ Klein's that is great.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
You gotta check this out.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Johnny hits. He does massive, massive hits.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Yeah, you just made another one while we were talking. Wait,
another one, another one?
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Okay, that's why he says that.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Does he like Timberland? Was that the music producer he was?
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Yeah? It still is.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Yes, you still you still think too? Yeah Timberland still
think Timberland? Yeah, okay, anything else there, Marvin, you're gonna bring.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Up Joe Rule next year? Joe Rule?
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Sure, that would make sense.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yeah. Like those three guys, they're not quote unquote like
Hall of Famers or anything, but those are guys that
had runs, like massive runs for two or three years.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Mike and Oklahoma, Good morning, Mike. What's on your mind today?
Speaker 8 (12:46):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (12:46):
Sorry, what's up?
Speaker 10 (12:47):
Guys. I've got a boat name that I haven't heard.
I've got my I.
Speaker 9 (12:52):
Wait, first.
Speaker 10 (12:55):
Boat name is Will. Will Ferrell inspired and they go
with boats and shows.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Boats and.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
Shows, boat and.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Boats and shows. Okay, I think we found our winner.
Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Do you guys know the reference with Will Ferrell boats
and shows.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
From the movie Step Brothers. Okay, but it's boats and
I don't want.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
To s h Okay, okay, ho ho ho Christmas movie,
Christmas movie.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah, I don't think that would go over well with
the family. Yeah, just saying Smoke Show another one?
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Interesting?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, didn't we make a T shirt as a tribute
to Hannah's storm and called it Smoke Shows?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
I think it possible. I think.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
I think whenever Hannah's name came up, seating with smoke Show. Yeah,
and then we made it. If you go right out
the door where Fritzi is to where you know they're
directing the show on the right side, theirs Smoke Show
t shirt.
Speaker 11 (14:13):
I think she'll take it as a compliment. I would, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Mean she may not want that compliment from us, but
a bunch of drilling more on.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yes, Hey, we may do legend, Yeah, a legend, yes, yea.
So Smoke Show.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
All right, let me take a break. We'll get to
more phone calls coming up. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (14:31):

have enough time to get to everything we want to
get to.
Speaker 13 (14:52):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Yeah, you blubber Lita and me.
Speaker 12 (15:06):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 13 (15:11):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk

continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 8 (15:24):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even.
Speaker 12 (15:31):
A little harder. It's gonna be the best after show
podcast of all time.
Speaker 13 (15:35):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, hmmm, did you guys
know who was gonna play in the game. Now, a
lot of times it is based off of the players
who were going to be inducted in if they played
on a certainty, and that's the case this year. Yeah,
(16:06):
kind of man, that's kind of the case this year
the Bears, Devin Hester, Steve McMichael, Julius Peppers, Andre Johnson
played with the Texans. And that will be the Hall
of Fame game. That's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
So that's coming up Thursday, August first, Boy, that's quick.
Other inductees Dwight Freeney, Randy Grantishar, and Patrick Willis. And
the Hall of Fame ceremony takes place Saturday, August third.
I've been there before for the game. The game may
(16:44):
have gotten canceled many many, many years ago with lightning
and rain. It is one of the hottest weekends that
I've ever been involved in. The humidity and canton dress. Accordingly,
if you're going there, I can't imagine having, you know,
your Hall of Fame jacket on, and those guys got
to sit up there on stage and it is hot, hot.
(17:09):
But the Hall of Fame game will be the Bears
against the Texans. By the way, Matt Eberflus is still
the head coach of the Chicago Bears, and he had
this to say about Caleb Williams.
Speaker 14 (17:21):
You know, for me, it's just believe it in Caleb,
you know, putting them in there and let's go. You know,
I think that the expectation is him to be the starter.
He is the starter when he drafted him, and that's
where he put him in. Put him in the position
to be that, and we're going to do it right.
Job to supporting him to get him ready for the
first game.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Okay, good, if you feel like he's ready to go, good,
put him in there.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
You know, you're going to have a learning curve there
and he's going to have highs and lows. You know
the defenses, you know defensive coordinators. All they want to
do is get a book on you. They just want
to know first time around, if you're Green Bay or
you're Detroit or Minnesota, the next time around that you're
going to face him. Also, Jordan Love is not going
(18:05):
to show up for practice with the Green Bay Packers.
I guess he's showing up. He's not participating until he
gets his new contract. It's all about timing because a
year ago at this time, what were we saying about
Jordan Love. Well, if he doesn't work out, you know,
maybe the Packers move on from him. Now all of
(18:25):
a sudden, he's going to be making fifty million dollars.
I guess management says they completely understand where he's coming from.
He did report for training camp on time, took part
in meetings other training camp activities, took part in the
entire off season program. But he is not going to
(18:47):
be working out until he gets his new contract. I
mean they were a great surprise last year. Packers finished
nine to eight, made the playoffs, had the wild card
win over Dallas he threw three touchdowns, no pick, and
then the divisional loss to San Francisco that ended with
a Jordan Love interception on the final drive. His numbers
(19:12):
were great. He started out slow, and that was one
of those where I was all in on him. I said, hey,
he's going to be good. And then all of a
sudden he started slow, and I was hearing from people saying,
Packer fans, you told us you build up our hope,
you jinxed him. I go, I think he's he can
be really good, and then all of a sudden, I
(19:32):
didn't hear from the Packer fans late in the season,
including my son. Love threw for almost forty two hundred yards,
thirty two touchdowns, eleven interceptions, so four quarterbacks ranked in
the top ten in passing touchdowns, passing yards, touchdowns as well.
(19:53):
So he was second behind Dak Prescott passing touchdowns, seventh
in passing yards, and in touchdown to interception ratio. So
good stuff out of Jordan Love. It's a good team,
and you know it's a competitive division. I think the
Bears are a playoff team Minnesota, I'm not quite sure.
(20:14):
I don't know if they can just sort of stay
where they are. Can they get much better here? You
still have good receivers, but you got Sam Darnold as
you're starting quarterback, not JJ McCarthy. And you know what
they're trying to do in Minnesota is what we saw
with Seattle. You're you're hoping like Gino Smith did that,
(20:35):
you can have somebody come in and there's not much
of a drop off from the previous quarterback, and there
certainly wasn't that much with Gino Smith. All Right, more
phone calls coming up. Did you see the Xavier Worthy
touchdown reception from Patrick mahonmes.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
He rolled left and threw it back right touchdown.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
I go back to when Kansas City moved up in
the first round and didn't they move up where Buffalo
was and they took Xavier Worthy, and I'm like, oh,
don't trade with your rival. They're up to no good. Xavi,
You're Worthy, the fastest guy in the draft. Having Mahomes.
(21:25):
You're watching that, You're going, yeah, yeah, get used to that.
And if I'm Travis Kelcey, I love this. Xavier go
deep because I'm gonna go about eight yards and do
a button hook and I'm going to catch a hundred
footballs this year.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yes, Martin. Almost like the NBA just feels like Laker
Celtics oh, we win the championship. Now we have the
number one pig like a game man.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Keemo in Virginia Beach is back. Hi, Chemo, what's on
your mind?
Speaker 10 (21:56):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (21:56):
Dave says to take the call best and Morris was
the open and I mean for Xander and then the
Shane that was the you know, the course one. But listen,
let's get all hands on deck. Listen, we reunite Fritzy
and Corbin. We got Shay, we got Barkley. We're all dancing,
all deck. Chop us, hold up, and we call it
(22:18):
the pontoona loser.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Thank you, Daddy, the Pontuona loser. Okay?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Hutch in California, Hi, Hutch, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (22:41):
Hey, thanks for taking my call? Dan, Uh, first time,
long time.
Speaker 9 (22:45):
I'm six foot two thirty and when I'm having a
rough day, it always cheers me up to think of
you singing this in the hallways at ESPN.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
But gator booie, gator booie. Yeah, skater boy, skater boy
said see you later.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Avril Levine could have performed at the WNBA All Star Guest.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yes she could have. Okay, yes she could have.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
All right, that would have been good, give her a
little career bump there. You know who could have performed Nickelback.
Speaker 11 (23:18):
Oh definitely, yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
My new favorite band, Nickelback. Ladies and Gentlemen. I would
have done. I would have done the introduction. Ladies and gentlemen,
please say hello to Nickelback.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Yes see this.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
There are some all star games or like sport performances
where the person is always introduced by their record label first,
like Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome. Arista recording artist, you know,
Jimmy nick Adoo, And you're like, who the.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Hell is that guy? Why?
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Why did they have to you wouldn't have to say
like Ladies and Gentlemen. And now you know Interscope recording
artist Doctor Dre. You're like, no, it's just doctor Dre.
So once you get to a certain level, yeah, it's like,
holy crap, this is a Madonna or Doctor Dre or
whoever it is. But when it's you know, Columbia Recording Artists,
Ladies and Gentlemen, Thompson, Ladies and Gentlemen from Apple Records saylo.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
To the Beatles. Yeah exactly, yes, Tom and.
Speaker 6 (24:16):
Nickelback could have changed Rockstar to All Star, which could
have been called.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Okay, okay, all right, we're making some progress here. Yes,
Paul NBA Summer League.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
No concert before or after tonight.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
But about halftime halftime, I'll check.
Speaker 7 (24:28):
I don't have anything.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Fit Bull is doing halftime of tonight as well. Pit
Bull is doing double duty summer league. Yeah, it's not
very far from Arizona. Just go there and ladies and gentlemen,
the pit Bull. I don't even know how it sounds.
(24:50):
Will the winner of the summer league hang a banner? Hopefully?
I mean if the Lakers can do an in season
banner in seasons of real ish, yeah, but it's the Lakers,
Like the Lakers don't hang an in season banner, Like
that's in your practice facility where you might have an
overflow because you've won so much, you're not going to
(25:13):
do a And tonight we raised the in season banner.
People get crying. I saw that your tickets, Yes.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Marv, especially when it's for a bunch of guys that
aren't going to play in the actual regular season.
Speaker 7 (25:32):
Yeah, good old number seventy four guard yep.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Bubba in Texas? Hi, Bubba, what's on your on today?
Good morning for the h Yeah, I can't, Bubba. Yeah,
I've got to go go for you, not to dance pee. Uh,
not the dandelion, but the dan pea lion.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Okay, thank you, Bubba. Eh.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I think we're kind of drying up the good names here.
I think we're drying him up. But that doesn't stop
me from saying John and Ohio, Hi John, WIT's on
your mind today?
Speaker 10 (26:08):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (26:08):
Dan?
Speaker 10 (26:09):
How are you guys?
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Great?
Speaker 10 (26:10):
John? Hey, I got something that just encompasses you totally
being a fellow Dayton Flyer alumni. And since you're on
the radio, I thought radio flyer.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Okay, all right, I'm pretty good. I'm okay with that
radio Flyer. I like that a little red wagon that
you'd pull around. By the way, I've over unders for
home runs this year. Aaron Judge over under according to DraftKings.
Sho hey Otani hit his thirtieth home run last or
(26:44):
yesterday bomb. All right, Marvin, I'm gonna start with you.
You have your Montreal Expo hat on so h exo. Yeah,
Aaron Judge over under.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
And a half. Oh, come on, that's crazy. Dang is
the power of the expos hat?
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I know, dang, dude, you got the Alonzo morning finishing
second MVP to Caarl Malone.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
He's exponentially better than the right.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Thank you Todd.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Show.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Heo Tani over Under, Marvin, I'm going to exclude you
from this Paul over Under show. Hey Otani home runs
forty six and a half, Todd forty eight and a half,
Seaton fifty one and a half, Marvin fifty and a half,
(27:37):
forty five and a half, over Rain forty five and
a half for show, Heyo Ton. By the way, I
did not know this either. This guy has been the
topic of trade rumors just because he's good on a
bad team. This guy is the favorite to win the
(27:58):
Cy Young in the American l Anybody want to guess
the favorite Marvin Mason Miller, No, I love Mason Miller.
Anybody else have a guess? American League Cy Young. He
is going to pitch today, He'll be on the bump today.
(28:24):
Treek Schooble of the Detroit Tigers. Obviously, Yes, yes, school
he's the favorite to win the American League. Sion, I
did not know that. By the way, second best record
(28:44):
in the American League belongs to the Guardians.
Speaker 7 (28:51):
That's still tough to deal with.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
I know, I know, I have friends who live in Cleveland,
and every time I say Guardians, they always in their
world correct me and they go, no, it's not the Guardian.
We do not call them the Guardians. I said, I
have to call them the Guardians. They said, we don't
have to come. I say, you're right, you do not
have to call same thing with Washington with the Commanders.
(29:13):
Commander is a terrible name. Guardians is name too. Yeah,
they're both equally, Yes, Nott, I love the Washington Football Club.
I thought that that was it was unique, It had
a good logo, and you weren't trying to replace it
with another nickname.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Yes, Paul, it.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Took me four years to say La Chargers, probably the
first four years they were in La San Diego.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
I still do that. Yeah, I still do that. But
that's that's not egregious. Like if you, you know, say
the Washington Commanders are Washington Redskins or the Cleveland Indians
or the Cleveland Guardians.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
That's that's where you get verbally.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Spanked if you say, oh, a member, man, I love
Dan Fouts, you know, I love the San Diego Chargers.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Now Scaley Chargers. Yes.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
My favorite is when you move but you keep the name.
I just love ving like Vancouver Grizzlies makes a ton
of sense. Memphis Grizzlies, great logos, great colors, good fan base.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Memphis Grizzy, New Orleans Jams to the Utah Jams.
Speaker 7 (30:15):
I meta jazz. Yeah, Utah, you've been there.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Yeah, I think Coltrane was from Utah.
Speaker 7 (30:19):
He was born in South Salt Lake.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yes, yes, what would you guys have renamed the Memphis
franchise instead of the Grizzlies. Oh, I don't know. I'm
not mad at the Grizzlies though, me neither. They might
be a Grizzly or two in Memphis, might be walking
in Memphis.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
In the city, in the city, in the metro area.
Speaker 7 (30:41):
I don't think there's a lot of Grizzlies.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Well, there are not a lot of Bears in inner
city Chicago. Not a lot of bowls in downtown Chicago.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Paul, Well, it was the bill Bulls when the stockyards.
That's why they called it the Bulls.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
So the Bears, they call them the Bears because I
don't know. And then I don't think there are a
lot of lubs that are hanging out at Wrigley.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
I don't think something they're not a lot of white
socks though. Yeah, that's true. It's true as opposed to
all the Red Sox Red Sox.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Nobody's blue socks, the blue hose.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
The pale pale hose. Yeah, pale hose.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
Presbyterian football, aren't they the blue hose?
Speaker 11 (31:23):
Maybe I thought it was uh No, there's.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Delaware.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Is the good squad?
Speaker 7 (31:37):
Usually Presbyterian blue hose football?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yes, the Duke or the blue toe, they're the blue devils, Todd,
you got one.
Speaker 6 (31:49):
I don't. I don't have anything clever right now.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Or usually I was gonna say, if it was predicated
on you saying something clever, then you wouldn't say it.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
Waiting a very long time the fourth hourand be pretty quiet.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
The Olympic Games getting underway on Friday, live from Paris,
NBC and Peacock take a break, last call for phone calls,
what we learn, what's in store tomorrow, and we'll try
to accomplish all of that next.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
You know, I'm going back over these numbers with Lamar
Jackson John Harball opens Raven's training camp in defense of
Lamar Jackson. Well, the criticism is really about the postseason.
So John Harball spent almost three minutes talking about the
criticism that Lamar Jackson has faced, and he had this
(32:44):
to say.
Speaker 15 (32:46):
The vision for Lamar Jackson, and it's a vision. It's
something you see it like it's already happened. You can
see it like it's already been done. The victory has
already been won when you pour into a vision. And
the vision that we have together is a m R.
Jackson is going to become and be known and be
recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the
history of the National Football League. That's the vision, all right.
(33:09):
It's going to happen by Lamar, his work, ethic and
his brilliant talent, by all of us pouring into that
effort together as a team, teamwork, and by the grace
of God and God's goodwill.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Okay, he sees this happening.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
And he's the youngest two time NFL MVP since nineteen seventy,
second best regular season record in the league since twenty eighteen,
and led Baltimore to the best record in the NFL
in twenty nineteen and then twenty twenty three. Greatness comes
(33:45):
down to what do you do in the last game
that you played that season. Each season, he has lost
four of his six playoff games. You have Kansas City
in Baltimore AFC Title game, he was twenty of thirty
seven with two turnovers. That's what this is about. I
don't know why. I mean, John could have said, here's
(34:09):
our vision, here's his vision, here's my vision, and that
is he has the opportunity to be the greatest quarterback
of all time. Nobody's going to argue that.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Now.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
We might say, yeah, but he's got to be better
than Patrick Mahomes, and he's not better than Patrick Mahomes,
and then you got to be better than Tom Brady.
Speaker 9 (34:31):
I just.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I like that he has his back and that Yes
there is criticism, but the criticism is what do you
do during the postseason. That's the only criticism I have.
And I was all in on him when he first
came out. There are a lot of people who thought, maybe,
you know, he's a backup quarterback, maybe he could be
(34:55):
a running back, maybe he'll just be a dual threat.
Can he be an everyday quarterback. Oh he doesn't throw,
oh like everybody else does, but he has this ability's
rush rover five thousand yards. He could end up with
ten thousand rushing yards.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Let that sink in. Most running backs aren't going to
have that anymore.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
He could end up with he's twenty seven, could he?
I mean, he might get to ten nine thousand yards.
He's gonna have a lot of numbers there. He's gonna
maybe this isn't the last MVP that he has. Now,
I don't know if the voters go, yeah, do we
(35:36):
want to vote for him MVP? But he hasn't done
anything in the postseason. This happened in the NBA. I
don't know. Once again, I never voted on an NFL award,
But I don't know if they go into this, gone, yeah,
do we give the MVP to a guy who doesn't
do well in the postseason, to which I would say, well,
you did that with Aaron Rodgers. Now they might go, well,
(35:59):
we don't want to make that mistake again, But he's
twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Two MVPs.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
It just it feels there's certain pitchers, and I said
this before about Greg Maddocks, even Clayton Kershaw There's certain
pitchers that if you got them one time, you could
figure them out or you knew what you could do
over the course of a season. Kershaw or Maddox or Glavin.
(36:27):
You know they were going to be great. They were
winning Cy Young's, they were winning twenty games, but that
one game. And then if you look at their postseason records,
I mean their average postseason records, some of the greatest
pitchers of all time. And then you have somebody who's
not a Hall of Famer, and then you're like, dang,
(36:49):
they were good in big games. It's just weird. It's
just and look, it's a team sport. I know that,
but we recognize the individual effort efforts of a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
Point, Lamar Jackson in six NFL seasons has fifty three
hundred rushing yards.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
He averages about eight hundred a year.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
So even if he plays let's say he plays six
more years and it cools off, he's going to be
at nine thousand.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Easy. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
The all time record is Michael Vick with sixty one hundred.
Michael would probably have eight thousand if he didn't have
his career derailed. Cab Newton's second at fifty six hundred.
He's going to cruise pass this record? Yeah, probably this year.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
But is he a Hall of Famer already with two MVPs, Like,
you know, it's kind of like with that two MVPs,
it's not like an accidental hey, you know, or if
you win two Super Bowls as a quarterback one you
might go yeah, but Trent Dilford did, oh yeah, but
Brad Johnson did. Like if you win two, then all
of a sudden, it's different. If you win a major,
(37:50):
all right, well, you know Ben Crane won a major.
You win two, then all like, you don't kind of
accidentally win two.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Yeah, two seems like a whole other level of difficulty
to do it again is something.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
And to have two MVPs, you know, so he's he's
on the precipice here of putting up numbers that nobody's
ever put up.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I just want to have him successful.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
I would love for him to get in a shootout,
go toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes like that'd be awesome,
or Josh Allen or Joe Burtle, like he needs that,
he needs that.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Because during the regular season, okay, he's a you know,
let me see the postseason he's like the Cowboys team.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yes, Mark, does he have to beat Mahomes on his
way to a super Bowl or just win a super Bowl?
In general, I.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Know people get caught up and well who did they play?
You know, I don't know if if I would be
going after my first one, I'd be like, I don't
give it a you know, when I want a sports Emmy.
I wanted Bob Costas to be in the category so
I could beat Bob Costace and then it's like, who
can't I just want to win one. I didn't care.
(39:03):
H that's all you want. Jason Tatum, all you didn't
go through anybody to win the and you're the NBA time.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Like we pick and choose who some of these guys
go through and then others you don't really care. But
if you're trying to go, well, who did Lebron go through?
When he Okay, we didn't do that with Jordan and
nobody said all that Laker team is all banged up,
that they beat Magic was hobbled. It's like, no, Mike
(39:33):
won a title. That Portland team. Mike won a title,
So we pick and choose a lot with that. I
would just want to win. Just give me one this
day and sports history Paul.
Speaker 7 (39:43):
Nineteen sixty two.
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Jackie Robinson became the first African American inducted to the
National Baseball Hall of Fame. Nineteen twenty six. At Mitchell
Field in New York, Babe Ruth caught a ball that
had been dropped from an airplane, not a helicopter, an
airplane flying at two hundred fifty feet.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Okay, dang.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Greg Maddox on this day in nineteen ninety seven completed
a game. He threw just seventy seven pitches. I think
he was on a pitch count of eighty, so he
got in right underneath that. Economical, yes, or economical. The
game lasted two hours in seven minutes, Todd, what did
(40:21):
you learn today?
Speaker 3 (40:22):
On the program?
Speaker 6 (40:23):
The Arena FOOTBA League title game was played inside a
mall in New Jersey. How about that?
Speaker 3 (40:28):
See what did you learn today? You're a big hockey guy.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Yeah, well, growing up in the Midwest, you know playing
you know lake hockey.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
You talk about it often. I do.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
All the days we would play lake cockey.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
The good old days, as you refer to them.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
That was my nickname, lake hockey, Lake cockey, Lake cocky
Marvin Boom, is that your French name? Yeah, lake cockey.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
No one lives better than a moderate shodow.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Nobody does. What did you do today? I started up
the Mercedes, went around the block and came back. Why
I'll tell you that, Paullie.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
I don't know, Paullie. What'd you learn to? What did
I learn today?
Speaker 6 (41:16):
You hope your wife talks about you the way John
Harbaugh talks about Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
What we learned about you?
Speaker 2 (41:21):
