Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the final hour on this Monday. Gangzol Here, Minister
of Humor, Fritzi Seaton, Mar Paula, yours truly, and you
whether you're at home watching on Peacock, our streaming partner,
or perhaps in your car headed to work commuting. We
say good morning to our radio affiliates around the country.
Eight seven seven three DP shows the number, especially on Monday,

(00:25):
best and worst of the weekend. And Operator Tyler sitting by.
He'll take your phone call. It's got a new poll question.
We talked a lot about Scotty Scheffler winning the BMW
fifth Winner of the season, and he does have a
great cameo in the Happy Gilmore I movie, And you know,
I think that's one of those that he's making fun

(00:45):
of himself when he got arrested and the scene towards
the end of the movie laughing at himself, but still
Scotty Scheffler is. I find him interesting, But then I'm different.
I find him interesting because it's like he's trying not
to be interesting, or maybe doesn't know how to be interesting.
There are a lot of guys who get more attention.

(01:06):
Ricky Fowler still gets more attention than Scotty Scheffler. And
I don't even think Ricky made the cut to go
to the Tour Championship. But he's still Ricky, and he's
gonna get you know, Jordan Speith, they're gonna get more
attention than Scotty Cheffer, Rory McElroy get more attention. I
have Bryson to Shamba. Scotty just this is what he's

(01:30):
paid to do. This is what he does. He just
goes out and wins. And even the chip, you know's
that's one of those not career defining, but it's one
of those career highlights that you have that will play that.
You know, Tiger had one at the Players Championship where
he somehow had this long putt Gary Koch on the call,

(01:51):
you know, better than most, better than Mo, and then
it goes in and he's had the you know, the
chip on sixteen at Augusta. I mean, Tiger had many, many,
many of those moments. Scotty Scheffler doesn't have highlights. He's
not a great highlight guy. If he played basketball, he
probably wouldn't make too many. He'd be like Tim Duncan,

(02:14):
and be like, and Tim Duncan with a bank shot.
He had twenty five and seventeen. That's it. It's like,
we got to put Tim Duncan in the highlights. Yeah,
but he didn't have any highlights put him in anyway.
And the nice bounce pass or something that's Scotty Scheffler.
All right, Seaton will have a poll question for the
final hour of the program. Talked a little bit about

(02:37):
preseason football and what it means, what it doesn't mean
if you're highlighting a player, and keep in mind there
are times when somebody will throw an interception. Dylan Gabriel
threw an interception. He's a rookie quarterback with the Browns. Well,
the wide receiver failed him, but it's on Dylan Gabriel.
And if you're looking at this competition or so called

(03:00):
petition between Dylan Gabriel and Shadoor Sanders, it's well, shad
Or Sanders played air free ball, yeah he did, but
that interception's not on Dylan Gabriel. And Dylan Gabriel played
pretty well. Now you may not have watched because it
wasn't Shadoor Sanders. And that's where you're going to take
somebody's opinion on it. And that's where Pauline and I

(03:21):
were talking about this. We wanted to watch every snap
of Shadoor Sanders just so we were fair, because I
didn't want to. I don't want to take somebody else's work.
If it's available, I can watch it, then I should
watch it. Then I can give you a true assessment.
And my assessment was he looked comfortable. That's the best
compliment I can give you. If you're a quarterback, you're

(03:41):
a rookie quarterback, you look comfortable, confident, and he did.
He looked like he had command of the offense. That's great.
Even if you make a mistake, a turnover, a fumble,
you know, you kind of run yourself into a sack,
It's okay. What do you do after that? That's where

(04:02):
you know you can become good or great with what
you do after that. And you know, to the contrary,
you can have a substandard career because you don't respond.
You don't, you know, get up and do something positive.
But I liked what I saw, But I like what
I saw with Dylan Gabriel as well. Now I don't

(04:24):
think they're ready for the Hall of Fame yet. I
do think Shador is going to start at some point
for the Browns this year, So Jackson Dart might be
good enough to win the starting role with the Giants,
but he's going to have to wait because you bring
in Russell Wilson and Russ is probably going to start.

(04:44):
Here's the interesting part of the situation with the Giants.
They have statistically, I think, the hardest schedule in the NFL.
But if you're the coach and the GM, how do
you approach this year. If I'm the owner of the
Giants and I truly believe in Brian Dable as my

(05:07):
head coach, I say to Brian, you and Joe Shane,
the GM are not getting fired. I want you to
go out and coach this team as we prepare for
the future. And by doing so, now I don't have
to play Russ the whole time, because if I look
at that schedule, there's a chance the Giants are two

(05:30):
and eight, one and nine. I think you've got to
approach this and say, is Jackson Dart our future? Get
him ready to be Your future in the future is now.
But if they're coaching for their jobs, then Russell Wilson,
then you stunt the growth of the franchise in my opinion,

(05:50):
because now you're going to play and you're gonna feel
like we have to win and if we don't win,
we're losing our jobs, which might be the case. But
you have a very very difficult schedule, yeah, Bulle.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
And Russell Wilson, assuming he's a starter at Washington at
Dallas hosts the Chiefs host the Chargers. Not an easy
one in the first four games.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah. I mean you could go for the first like
ten games and there's no easy games for them. We're
also talking about success in the preseason that you have.
You know, Stetsont Bennett junior fourth put up really good
numbers for the Rams, and you know he throws for
three twenty four He threw forty times. All Right, I

(06:34):
don't care if it's preseason or not. The guys that
he's playing against are professionals. So I'll go okay, I mean,
I'll grade on a curve here. But I don't know
if you know reads read Senate? Does anybody know reed Senate?
I didn't think so. He threw for three hundred and

(06:55):
forty three yards and this was twenty twenty one. He
did that against the Bengals, he threw three forty three.
Tyler Bray, remember Tyler Bray, Chicago Bears. He threw for
three hundred and thirty four yards. That's twenty nineteen. How

(07:15):
about Ryan Griffin? Anybody? Anybody? He threw for three hundred
and thirty yards for the Buccaneers in twenty nineteen.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
That's the other RG is the first one. There's RG,
then there's RG two, RG three got all the headlines,
but the original O G RG right there, Nate Sudfeld,
how about Nader for the Eagles threw for three twelve
back in twenty eighteen.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Will Greer of the Cowboys twenty twenty three threw for
three oh five.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
All right, well yeah, let's go.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Well all in the Trey Lance he threw for three
twenty three for the Cowboys last year, Red Bray Brett
Hunley Packers twenty fifteen, three fifteen. In other words, did
the numbers really mean anything in the preseason? Probably not.

(08:07):
Oh I just saw where Cam Newton's number is going
to be retired by Auburn. I'm set to do his
podcast tomorrow, but he's having me on for an hour?
Is that normal for Cam Newton? That's a long Time?
Is his podcast an hour? Yes, Mark, you and Cam
have a different synergy. You went to radio row for

(08:31):
Cam what you would never have done before, So I
think you and him are going to have a great convo.
But normally it's about a half hour. Oh okay, yeah,
I And it kind of surprised me when I met
Cam and he just said I want to learn. I
want to be great. I want you to help me,

(08:52):
and he goes, I want to learn how to interview people.
And I always appreciate that when when somebody who doesn't
know how to do it ask how to do it,
and it says a lot about him because I think
he's very charismatic and has a very popular podcast. Hopefully
I won't hurt those numbers. A couple of phone calls
in here, Sarah on Kate con Sarah, thank you for

(09:14):
holding what do you have for me today?

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (09:16):
Thanks for taking my call. I was going to do
a best and the worst, but before I get to that,
I just wanted to say that I think I'm going
to stop calling you DP and start calling you CP
for Captain Patrick because that visual of you on a
pontoon boat was great. So so my worst of the week.
Thank you. My worst of the week was you guys

(09:37):
not being on all week, although they replayed the one
week without Fritzy, which I didn't know if that was
intentional or not, but that was one of my favorite
weeks in twenty years. So and my best of the
week was after like fifteen years of searching. I'm a
big into movies and I love when you guys talk
about them, and my three favorite movies A Dirty Dozen

(10:01):
Adventures and Babysitting and it's the Dazzling Dunks and Basketball
Bloopers with Frank Clayton and Marv Albert that you guys
talked about a couple of weeks ago. And I finally
found a coffee online and so well, thank you, I.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Hope, thank you, Sarah. I don't pick what Peacock shows
when we're not on. I did not have any influence
in the fact that they had a week's worth of
shows when Fritzy was not on. Maybe that was when
you were in London, maybe that's when that was. Yeah,
I did not pick that. I never would do something

(10:36):
like that, never, But thank you, Sarah. Yeah, I had
some boating issues. My pontoon boat ran out of gas
one day and then then I hit a rock, hit
a rock. Yes see, I'll tell you what. There is
a former.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Producer director type who used to work for this show
who would have loved the idea of you and a
captain's outfit on a pontoon boat.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Inside joke.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Wow, well there's all right.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
So the the joke is every time we were going
to like shoot a big promo or something like that,
Dan always ended up in some type of outfit like, okay,
Dan is the pilot of this boat, or you know
they have this ship, or okay, Dan is the pilot
of this airplane. Dan's the head astronaut. Okay, and he's
in the outfit. And every time we were shooting something,

(11:28):
you were always in a big outfit and we were like, man,
what the what's the story with that?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Was Dan always the guy?

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Okay, Dan is the general and he's dressed up like
a I think.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
That guy had a fetish of me in a uniform. Wings. Yeah,
he would be like, I want you in a uniform,
getting Dan in a baseball uniform? Okay, all right, it
doesn't matter to do with.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
The concept is like Hunt for Red October and he's
in the.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Submarine a lot of plays. Sean Connery. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Yes,
I'm going to pick out his outfit. Yes, man is
the admiral Okay, and he's got all these school he's
Richard Gear, an officer and a gentleman. He's got his
military white son. Yes, I like that. I don't know

(12:16):
why I'm talking like this. Seaton.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
You go flying by in a skateboard. Okay, I'm forty five.
We're doing the skateboard bit for twenty years. I know,
I know Seaton came to me and he goes. I
think I have outgrown the skateboarding.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yeah, maybe we could just try a new angle.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
You know, like I do have a mortgage, I pay
my bills, have a real job, you know, like I
have a child of a wife that depends on me.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Get over the skate Kevin in La, Hi, Kevin, Best
and Worst of the Weekend, Hey Dan.

Speaker 7 (12:48):
First off, as the.

Speaker 8 (12:51):
Degree holder of Broadcast Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School
of Journalism, I have much respect for your show, and
you have the best interview I've heard on to the
best of the weekend. Best of the weekend is my
seven year old son professing his love for the San
Diego Padres. I was born in San Diego but now
live in LA and I'm a diehard Padres fan up
here and to Sea of Blue. I got him on

(13:14):
our side, so like a dad, I'll get you with
a new president. I bought tickets for Saturday and Sunday's game.
You watch us through San Diego things. So that was
the worst of the weekends, his first two games at
Dodger Stadium, watching the Padres just do nothing. So much
respect to you guys. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Thank you, Kevin. You start them early. It's you know,
sometimes it's your dad was a fan of this team
or his dad a fan of the team, and then
it's passed on to you. You know, sometimes it's child
abuse when you why why am I a fan of
the Browns Because I was and your dad was and
your granddad was. Okay, Zach and Knoxville, Hi, Zach, what's

(13:57):
on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (14:02):
Hey, DP, thanks for taking my call. Best and worst
of the weekend. Best was seeing Francisco Indoor out there
in the Little League World Series. He plays the game
with the Little League spirit and that was that was
really cool. The worst was the I was watching the
Manchester United Arsenal game. I had it on in the
background and I turned my back for one second and

(14:24):
missed the only goal of the game. I was a
match on the pitch there for seeding, and I just
want to say one thing nice about Todd.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
Oh that's the joke.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Oh well, nothing, silence.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
You can't think of one thing nice to say about me.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
I don't know how it to go on with my day.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Well, you did encourage people who say suck it back
road to call in and explain why they want you
to suck it.

Speaker 10 (14:56):
Yes, and this would be the exact opposite of that suggestion.
With that gentleman.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Well, you could kind of read between the lines of
what he was saying there.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
He would, yeah, a suck at guy, but he decided
to be more pointed towards God.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
It was creative. Seaton was in the front row and
then McLevin left and then he came back there, so
by proxy he is suck at back row. Might not
be fair to him. Yeah, kind of taking on that,
you know, added you know, sucket spillover. Yeah, it's okay,

(15:30):
it's okay. I'm here for Todd. I'm hoping to balance
it out a little bit.

Speaker 11 (15:34):
More and no amount of soccer scarves have been able
to block all the hate back what's going on?

Speaker 2 (15:39):
I know Seaton always gets he gets these soccer scarves,
and it's basically a curtain at uh you know, because
we had the uh the window there that we put
up mclev and wanted that because Todd was, you know,
hacking up along and McLevin said, can you protect me
and put up a glass partition here? And Seaton had

(16:00):
the glass partition and he has the soccer scarf, so
if he doesn't want to see Todd, he can just
cover that here. It it is a little bit of
an impromptu wall.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
But see like Todd doesn't even notice though, Like I
put the Brooklyn FC soccer scarf right in Todd's shot
so that then when they show him, it says Brooklyn.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
He's a Brooklyn guy.

Speaker 10 (16:18):
Thanks?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Is that just for me?

Speaker 6 (16:21):
All right?

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Let me take a break. We'll talk to Gerald McCoy,
a former NFL player I think the third pick overall
back in twenty ten out of Oklahoma. He works for
NFL Network and get his thoughts on what he's seen
so far with the preseason. We're back after that, back
with him after this on The Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 12 (16:51):
He's Mike Carmen. I'm Dan Bayern. We have a brand
new fantasy football podcast called I Want Your Flex. Twice
a week, every Tuesday and Friday, we come up with
new episodes to not only look back at what happened,
what you need to do at that minute, and also
look ahead of what's coming up in the fantasy football world.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
That's right, Dan.

Speaker 11 (17:11):
Every week we're gonna scour the waiver wire to find
the pickups to turbo boost your fantasy lineup, sit starts,
fantasy football players rankings to get you ready to dominate
the competition.

Speaker 12 (17:22):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
me Dan Beyer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts and
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Best and Worst of the Weekend Tyler Sitting Mike taking
your calls. Stat of the Day brought to you by
Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. He's
Gerald McCoy. He was a former defensive tackle six time
Pro bowler and third overall pick in the draft twenty ten.
I believe three of the four top four were from Oklahoma.

(17:52):
Does that sound right, Jerald?

Speaker 5 (17:54):
That sounds absolutely perfect. Yes, it was three to four
our Taen picks. It was Sam and then I went
and then Trent went number four.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
And then and Dominican Sue was in there as well.

Speaker 10 (18:08):
It was two. Yes, but.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
Five of the top six were from the Big twelve,
so we had something going that year.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Okay, let me give the official introduction. NFL Network carries
six preseason games that'll be coming up a quadruple header
this Saturday, August twenty third, starting at one Eastern on
NFL Network. Do coaches give pregame speeches in the preseason.

Speaker 10 (18:37):
Yeah, they do.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
A preseason is still about preparing the team, and somebody
has to play the game, whether it's the starters, the backups, whoever.
The game still has to be played. And most coaches say, hey,
they keeping scoring. We want to go out and win.
And we've been working on all these things, whether you've
had joint practices or not, whether you've just been practicing together,

(19:00):
whatever we've been working on.

Speaker 10 (19:01):
Coach wants to go see you executed in the game.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
The coaches do a great job of not trying to
downplay what the preseason is. That's more like the starters
and the players that will do something like that. But
the coaches they locked in at all times. I'm talking
about they still yelling on the sideline. They still is
still a game. So yeah, they do can give pregame speeches.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Okay, but how do I process the Bills getting blown
out by the Bears That we know the Bills are good,
they got embarrassed by the Bears. Let me look at
it from the Bills perspective of how would you feel
if you played for the Bills and you got blown
out like that?

Speaker 5 (19:41):
Well, it's not a great feeling because we've been practiced,
We've still been practicing, and we've still been working on
the things that we do. So you go out in
the game and don't put up any points like none,
that is that's not a great feeling for whoever's out
there because preseason, some of these games might be the
only NFL football some of these guys ever play, and

(20:02):
they live and tell stories off their preseason experience.

Speaker 10 (20:06):
In their game.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
So if you go out there and the only experience
you've ever had. You got blown out thirty eight zero.
That's not a story you want to tell. But also
for the coaches who are trying to look for the
special teams players and the guys who might be the backups,
it's not a good look for them either. So I'm
pretty sure those meetings are not pleasant this week.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
What's it like when somebody gets cut in training camp?

Speaker 5 (20:30):
It's horrible. It's something you don't want to see. I
remember in the spring, this wasn't even training camp. It's
a spring. I can't remember what year it was, but
all the d line it got together after workouts and
meetings and we went to see a movie. And while
we were sitting in the theater during the movie, one
of the guys was stood up was like, all right, fellas,

(20:52):
I'm gonna get out of here. It was like the
movie just started. He was like, Oh, they just cut me,
so I gotta get out of here. I was like,
and we were just like, bro, do we sitting enjoy
the movie or do we leave? Like we don't. We
don't know what to do.

Speaker 10 (21:05):
It's a it's a bad feeling. I've seen so many
different cuts.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
We've been sitting in the meeting the day of final cuts,
and you feel like once you make it to team meeting,
all right, we're good. But I found that out many
a time. Even making it to that meeting, it's not.
So you walk around, you see people like looking around
the corner hoping they don't you know, get called, and
then you get in the team meeting. One time we
was in the team meeting the team's starting and Sheldon Correls.

(21:32):
We called him the Grim Reaper in Tampa because he
was the one who would come grab you. So we
was all like, you know, like everybody look out for
the Grim Reaper. So we we sit at the team
meeting and then we see we hear that back door
open up, and everybody turned around and Shelton. We was like,
oh my gosh, he came to grab somebody. And then

(21:52):
one time it was week one week one, the first practice,
so we come back that Monday before for the first week,
it's not that Wednesday.

Speaker 10 (22:01):
Is that Monday? So you want to get to that Wednesday.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
So the Monday comes up, we outside of practice and
Shelton walks on the field to practice to the warm
ups and grab somebody off the field. I was like, wow,
I said, man, this business is ruthless. This is just yeah,
it's not a great feeling. It's not something you want
to see.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
And because it's your dream. Yeah, think if you made
it through the first week. In the first game, it's
it's like, Okay, I feel like I've made the roster.
I'm pretty safe there.

Speaker 10 (22:33):
That's what it feels like.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
But I tell people all the time, man, the NFL
is about adjustments, not just game day adjustments. You really
have to adjust to everything, just to new coaches adjust
new players, adjust to the weather. Everybody plays hurt, nobody's
healthy after the first day of practice.

Speaker 10 (22:51):
It's just a game of adjustments.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
You just roster you start with even in week one,
might not be the roster you go into the game with,
but definitely the roster you start with week one eighth
the roster you go en week seventeen with.

Speaker 10 (23:02):
So it's just all about it.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Just is Gerald McCoy works for NFL Network as an
analyst and former defensive tackle. NFL Network has six preseason
games that'll be a quadruple header this Saturday, August twenty third,
starting at one Eastern. The difference in the sound of
a rookie quarterback at the line of scrimmage and Tom Brady,

(23:27):
any veteran in any of those guys, the sound their
voice is their difference. If I say, just listen, you
can tell a rookie at the line of scrimmage and
a veteran.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
Yeah, you could definitely tell the difference, the level of confidence,
how to operate, even the communication from the offensive line
rookies depending on who's the center. This is what a
lot of people won't know is I don't care how
good the rookie is. If he has a vet center,
he's going to depend a lot on his center for protections.

(24:03):
Changing plays a lot of things that's going So you
may hear the rookie calling it, but they're real indecisive
with things they want to do.

Speaker 10 (24:11):
The center helps them out a lot. I remember this
happening with.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
Cam trying to think of some other young guys that
I played. I really can only really think of Cam
right now because's why I played in the division.

Speaker 10 (24:23):
But Ryan Couli will help Cam out a lot.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
Cam was very decisive as he got older, but when
we first played, Cam would call things out, but we'd
be at the line and Ryan would be calling out, no,
we're not doing this, we're going here here Cam, and
they would be going back and forth like okay, confirming
what's going on.

Speaker 10 (24:41):
But then he played at Drew Brees or Matt Ryan
and oh shoot.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Kill kill kill kill you, like, man, what.

Speaker 10 (24:48):
The heck is going on?

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Okay, switching well, I think, please change something because Drew
is out there, like Drew is cerebral man, and he
listened and Drew me and Drew tray together.

Speaker 10 (24:59):
So that's what made have fun.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
He would be talking like looking at me, like making
changes like look at me, dead in my face, like
let me know, y'all not about to stop this, you know.

Speaker 10 (25:08):
So it was it was always fun, you know, going
back and forth with Drew.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
What was it like to tackle Cam Newton?

Speaker 5 (25:19):
So I don't know if y'allve ever seen like Toddler's
like really feel like they can take their parent down,
like really feel like they can jump on their dad's
leg and tackle them and then the dad is like
like wrapped around their leg and they just like dragging
you across the carpet. That's pretty much what it feels
like trying to take Cam down. Because Cam, in my

(25:42):
time was the most elusive. I still think He's the
most elusive quarterback ever, simply because we've seen Lamar, We've
seen Vic, seen Randall cunning Hem, We've seen all these
people be elusive to where they can escape. But Cam
was doing everything they're doing as sit six fifty to

(26:02):
sixty doing it. But he's just as smooth. He can run,
not as fast, but he can run very fast.

Speaker 10 (26:08):
He's outrunning people. He can make you miss.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
And he had that fake to the right, spin back
out to the left, he had that step forward, step
back move. Cam had everything you needed to be in
a loosive quarterback. But then when you hit him, it's like,
please go down because he had all that paddy. He
had pads on his arms, he had pads on his calves,
he had the flack jacket. It's like, Caam, come on, Doug,

(26:32):
you already to sixty. Why are you wearing all this stuff?
But he's wearing all this stuff and he's still moving
the way he's moving like you really had to jump
on Cam to get him on the ground.

Speaker 10 (26:43):
Cam was He's one of the best. Man.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Do you still have your Batman themes? Rolls Royce?

Speaker 5 (26:51):
I have the Rose Royce, but I made it. Kobe
after Kobe passed away, so it was Batman.

Speaker 10 (26:57):
But I have.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
What I have now is I have a Batman themed
cyber truck and I have my Batman chain on too, So.

Speaker 10 (27:07):
I'm you all that man, Yeah, I'm all Batman.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
How did you trick out the Kobe rules Royce?

Speaker 5 (27:15):
It's red, still red, and I put the Mamba logo
on the front of my hood.

Speaker 10 (27:23):
So do you ever meet him? I did meet Kobe.

Speaker 5 (27:27):
I met Kobe at the Player's Tribune meeting in LA
and for somebody to be somebody you looked up to,
so they kept talking about the Players Rebune meeting and
I was part of the Players Commune and they were
having a big meeting in LA and they called me
and they was like, hey, this year.

Speaker 10 (27:45):
Last, last year, Kobe is supposed to be there. He
wasn't there. This year, he's for sure going, He's for
sure confirmed. Are you going. I'm like, I'm already headed
to the airport. So like so I get there and
I'm in the meeting.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
I'm seeing all these people, Michael phipps, uh, these Von Miller's, these,
these Paul Pierce's, these just all these time Maria Sheri,
Povahs all these like people like Kd's in there, Blake
Griffin and all these and I'm like, I know Blake,
I know KD, I know Von, I know all these people.
Derek Jeter got to meet Derek Jeter. But you know,

(28:20):
he's in Tampa all the time, so I had met
him before.

Speaker 10 (28:22):
But I'm like, hey, listen, no offense. Where is he at?

Speaker 6 (28:28):
You know?

Speaker 10 (28:28):
So I see him walk down the steps and.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
I'm like, oh my gosh, this is happening. And he
just walks in and he's just a normal dude. He's
just a normal dude.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Man.

Speaker 10 (28:40):
He walked up.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
He was like he's a big fellow, and he's shaking
everybody hand and they sitting down.

Speaker 10 (28:44):
We have a meeting. We go through the players rebut
we have a great meeting.

Speaker 5 (28:47):
Then afterwards we went outside to the pool where they
was having the after party and he comes outside and
he comes He's sitting next to me and he slapped
me on the leg.

Speaker 10 (28:56):
He's like, what's up, big dog?

Speaker 5 (28:57):
How you doing? And we like over the conversation. Then
I asked for a picture and then he leaves. It's
just like it was almost like the perfect meeting of
one of your like heroes honestly and one of the
people I looked up to my entire career. Man, and uh,
it was a great feeling. So yes, I did have

(29:17):
opportunity to meet Kobe.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
More nervous with that or playing in a big in
a playoff game.

Speaker 10 (29:25):
It was. I was more nervous meeting Kobe, for sure, because.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
You don't want to mess it up, you know, like
you know it's just meeting him, but you still like
you don't want to be you just don't want to
be weird man like and I'm and I'm I'm I'm
not a nervous person like I'm not. I don't get
nervous really, you know, I don't really get embarrassed if
I fall in front of the thousands of people. I

(29:49):
just get up like dang, y'all just tripped and field.
But that's just how I am. Like, I don't really
get embarrassed like that, So you know I was.

Speaker 10 (29:57):
But I was.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Really nervous to meet Kobe as much as I I
been wanting to meet him in all these things I'm
gonna say to him when I.

Speaker 10 (30:02):
Meet him, and all that, I hadn't do. None of that.
I didn't do none of this none of.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
This could A couple of football things here the contract
situation with Trey Hendricks and Michael Parsons. Terry McLaurin, Yeah,
which one? Which one is? You know potentially serious that it?
You know, a player could change teams?

Speaker 5 (30:27):
If I have somebody that could really change the team,
is Michael Parsons.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
The Cowboys going to another team?

Speaker 10 (30:33):
Gonna go to another team? Probably Henton?

Speaker 5 (30:36):
A Trey Henders said, does it real possibility he could
get traded? You think about San Fran could trade for him.
I would love to see him go to the Bucks.
He could you know, possibly Washington. Washington definitely could use him.
It's a missing peace. But I think it's the real
possibility he could get traded out of that because we've

(30:58):
seen the history of Cincinnati. They they just don't pay people.
It's just like this is always like a reoccurring thing.
Then we always looking at Cincinnati like what the heck
are y'all doing with Why y'all don't want to pay anybody?
Terry McLaurin, I don't see getting traded. Mikeauld definitely is
not getting traded. But yeah, if I have to pick

(31:18):
anybody's trade, Hendrickson.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Give me your sneaky team this year the Raiders.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
The Raiders, he Carroll, He's a ten win coach. It's
just what he does. It's some people you just like,
they just this is what they do. It may not
be glamorous or whatever, but this is just what they do.
You just look up and it's like, man, he averaged
a double double again, How the heck is he doing this?
That's just that's Pete carries one of them guys with
ten wins. He just he knows how to win. He

(31:47):
has a formula. He runs the ball, physical run game.
He had Marshawn Lynch. You go get Ashton Gmt. Because
this is this is my style, this is what I
want to do. You go out and get a quarterback
that you know can play. That's a vet that you
don't have to teach him. He's won some games, made
the playoffs. Gino Smith, you already got brought Bowers. You

(32:10):
go draft offensive lineman so you could run the ball
and be physical. You got your receivers that could take
the top off the defense. Max Crosby's on the other side.
I know what John spotech the GM. I was with
him in Tampa. I know his philosophy and how he
builds teams. I just believe that this team is going
to shock a lot of people with the things they

(32:32):
can do. But the formula they have, Pete Carroll's just
a winner. And in that city in Vegas, Pete Carroll
fits that perfect.

Speaker 10 (32:40):
He recruited me when he was.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
At USC, so I've seen how he can handle big
cities and how he can handle the lights. And we've
seen it in Seattle, going to two super Bowls, going
to multiple MC Championships, winning a super Bowl. This is
just who Pete Carroll is and I know what he
can do, and I believe that they are going to
be a team that sneaks up on a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Oklahoma paid better than USC.

Speaker 10 (33:08):
Hey, listen, let me tell you something. I'm in the clear. Now.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
I didn't get anything. But I tell people all the time.
I tell people that all the time. Y'all can't do
nothing to me. Now if I'm not one of the
people that's gonna get on here and say, hey, no,
I would to took nothing. Please all right, Hey, Hey, hey,
I'm from south side Oklahoma City. We ain't had much.

(33:32):
I needed all I could get, but I didn't get nothing,
so you know whatever, Oh, you just owe you.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Hey, I don't blame players getting money, you know, getting
a handout, but you can do it.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Yeah at this man, listen, college is you go for
the reasons you go.

Speaker 10 (33:51):
You know, back then everything has changed.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
I go talk to these teams, these guys that owe you, uh,
these income and recruits. I've talked to the team that's
there now and when I was there. I tell people
the times of going to a school because you grew
up loving the school or the tradition or this is
o you. I know them days over with, so I'm
not one of the people they bring you in and
I go talk.

Speaker 10 (34:13):
To a team like we have a standard, we have it,
this and this and this.

Speaker 5 (34:18):
That's not me, I say, I know the reasons for
people going to different schools are different now, but if
you're going to be here, be here.

Speaker 10 (34:30):
Don't have your mind somewhere else.

Speaker 5 (34:32):
Find whatever reason it is you're here, and do it
for that at this school. And then I go on
to the tradition of O you, if you're gonna wear
these colors while you're here, at least uphold what we
are standard is while you're here. If you want to
leave after that, then go that's fine. If you don't
want to be here, you don't have to be here.
But why you're here, uphold this standard that this school

(34:53):
has always had. So that's kind of my message to
the new generation because I know it's different reasons why
kids going there.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
So you gave you a better deal than us. Serious, Hey,
keep killing it there on NFL Network. Great to have
you on. We appreciate your time.

Speaker 10 (35:15):
I appreciate you men.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
It's Gerald McCoy. He's a former defensive tackle, six time
Pro bowler, back when it meant something to be a
pro bowler. NFL Network six preseason games coming up. They
have a quadruple header Saturday starting at one eastern. Take
a break, Last call for phone calls, what we learn,

there's a Trey Hendrickson game, not the game that the
Bengal played. Anight against the Commanders. But it's called the
Trey Hendrickson game, all right, Paul.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
As ready to play?

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Week one of the NFL season. Trey Hendrickson will be
playing for the Bengals, not playing for the Bengals, playing
for another team. You will go last, Dan Marvin will.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
Go first, playing for the Bengals, Sea not playing for
the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Pritty, not playing for the Bengals. Just a recap playing
for the Bengals, not playing for the Bengals, playing for another.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Team, Say, playing for the Bengals, because I think they
realize you can't waste another Joe Burrows season. I'm gonna
you know, maybe you know, cooler heads will prevail.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
That's the entire Trey Henderson.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
That's it, Brush that Here's here's a question for you.
This team has not been swept in a series this season.
The only team that has not been swept in a
series forty series without a sweep, Marvin, are Milwaukee Brewers. No,

(37:19):
but that seems like the obvious guests as great as
they've been playing, Paul.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
The Detroit Tigers, no Todd, the Guardians, no.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
Satan, the Toronto Blue Jays, good answer as well.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
It's the Cincinnati Reds, whoa forty series without being swept
is surpassing the nineteen seventy Reds. They weren't swept for
thirty two consecutive series, the Big Red Machine nineteen seventy.

(38:02):
This is the style of the day. Thank you, Melissa
Ethigs and City Chief Fans. Stat of the Day brought
to you my Panini America, the official trading cards of
the Dan Patrick Show. Doug in Washington, Hi, Doug, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (38:17):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (38:17):
Yeah, I'm six' three and a BUTTERBEAN s three, Five
so my question is. This i'm a fourth Generation, husky
so it's hard to ask this, question But i'm going
to ask it of the greatest broadcaster in. Sports why
is it That Washington State university is being allowed to

(38:39):
fall off the edge of the football. WORLD i know
the answer is. Money i'm sure you'll get. There but
when they Graduated Keith jackson.

Speaker 10 (38:51):
And EDWARD.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
R murrow the greatest, broadcasters why is the broadcasting industry
not rallying to The cougar's efforts to stay?

Speaker 2 (39:02):
Relevancy, well it's a niche, Question. Doug the rest Of
america doesn't. CARE i mean they care about their own alma,
maters not just Because Keith jackson And EDWARD. R murrow went.
THERE i would love to get The cougars back, in you,
know into mainstream conversations with. FOOTBALL i love the rivalries up,

(39:23):
there the atmosphere up, There but just Because Keith jackson
went there And EDWARD. R, murrow that's not going to
help your. Cause, YES. Paulm he's.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
Right Washington state football has one of the weirder schedules in.
Sports they Have Idaho, State i'm, Sorry, Idaho San Diego,
State North, Texas, Washington, Mississippi, Virginia toledo and. Ongoing it's
like a tour.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Back twelve all. Right P christ And. Syracuse, Hi, Chris.

Speaker 13 (39:56):
Hey thanks for getting. Me And Dan, Hey i'll try
you real. Quick, HEY i tuned in when you guys
were talking about baseball and how they're going to go
mego regional in their, divisions WHICH i agree With. SEATON
i think it would be. Incredible do you think college?
FOOTBALL i think eventually now when they expand the, playoffs,
especially they're going to it'll be like The Premier. LEAGUE
i think that's how it. Works you have like fifty
sixty top teams a lower tier and they can go

(40:18):
up if they the lower tier can go up if they're,
good and the other ones drop. Down do you think
they would ever go like a four division top, tiers
like maybe call IT Sec south one of, them and
then have just regional teams in each. DIVISION i think
it would be great for the, sport AND i know
the fans would love.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
IT i think it's. GREAT i think everything's on the.
TABLE i just don't, know you, know who's at the,
table how big the table. Is but it feels like
something seismic will happen in the next five. Years Paulie
this day in sports history.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Herschel walker nineteen eighty, One as a sophomore At, GEORGIA
