Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Final Hour on a Meet Friday is always mixed emotions.
On the one hand, I'm having an absolute blast sitting
in the big chair for Dan, as I always tell
people when I see him at the airport or whatever.
It really is as fun as it looks. It's even
more fun. Well my favorite things to do. My favorite
(00:25):
things to do are to call games and to fill
in for Dan because the Dan nets are awesome. So
the downside of starting the final hour is that I
only have an hour left. Then I got to drive
four hours back to Pennsylvania. The positive part of it
being the final hour, we're like fifty three minutes away
(00:49):
from Meat Friday, and I got to tell you my
salivary glands are like working overtime right now. We got
baby back and say, Lewis ribs, beer brats, jalepeno. How
do you say that word? Fritzy kalepenna? Okay, but it
(01:09):
is kalepago, mac and cheese, coleslaw and all of the
spicy mustard I can possibly consume. Per my guy, Dylan Grady,
I am very much. I'm hungry. You know what's weird?
I kind of do the intermittent fasting thing. So I
(01:30):
usually eat at like ten, two and six, But staying
in the hotel, I'm like whatever it is at Marriott, Platinum, Titanium,
Sapphire for Life or whatever. I don't know what I am,
but so I can go to the concierge lounge. They
have a really nice breakfast. So I had that at
six thirty, knowing that I wouldn't eat here till twelve,
(01:51):
Thank goodness, because I would be ready to gnaw my
arm off right now. Yes, Fritzy, how.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Does it affect your mood?
Speaker 4 (01:58):
You hear these stories people get angry and it just
alters your mood significly. People get like really pissed off
when they're starving. Do you keep out of the control
or you get to a point where if you haven't
eaten a while and you're really hungry, you're not fun
to be around.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
The ladder Ladder Now, I'm okay because I'm on the
show here and I had breakfast and I know I'm
gonna eat in an hour. But my family knows when
I get angry and that it's it's not good. I'm
the same way if I'm super tired. I mean, isn't
that most people who like are people out there actually
(02:31):
in a really good mood when they're hungry or tired.
It's not even the thing, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
And waiting forty five minutes. This is our worst problem.
That there's great food right outside, but we have to
wait forty five minutes. It's like going to a cookout
and you get there and the grill's cooking, the people
are cooking, and you see good food, like, well, we're
going to open up about half an hour, half an hour,
forty five minutes and you gotta sit and wait.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
You know what else is so interesting When you're at
like a family event like that, or maybe a more
formal event, and they put the food out and nobody
wants to be the first person to go over there.
And my wife will look at me, I'll look at her.
She'll look at me, and she'd like, Nope, don't do it, uh,
because she doesn't know if it's open yet, she doesn't
(03:16):
know if it's appropriate yet. So you know, I do
in those situations, I go up to my sister in
law and I'm like, go ahead, I think we can start. Now,
go ahead, I think we can start now and she'll
do it. She'll get in line and I'll go right
behind her. I'm right there, ready to be number two. Yes, Fritzi,
what happens on the other end?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
When is that last slider or that last meatball, that
last whatever?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Do you have any shyness about? Like I'm taking that.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
I don't care if you know what's so funny about that, Fritzy.
My wife's family. Okay, it's like a faux pas to
eat the last thing, to finish shit, because it's like
you're being impolite or selfish. So like, let's just say,
(03:59):
for example, there's one last brat there in the tray. Okay,
they will like, if someone still wants it, they'll cut
it in half and they'll eat a half. Guess what.
Guess what the next person, if they want some, they'll
they'll cut that half into a half. They have a bite.
(04:22):
They were trained that you never want to be the
person that finishes the food. Meanwhile, I grew up military.
My mom was an army brat. So my grandparents, if
it's on your plate, you finish it. And also like
you're highly encouraged to eat my grandparents. I think it's
why I'm so big. They would cheer me on as
(04:44):
I ate at their house. Go Ross, go ROSSI look
at them, go look at him go. So I just
scarf things down, Seaton.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Oh are you eating as a child that they said,
look at them go.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
It's oh my gosh, they love I'm not even kidding.
I would sit there, they'd make me like ten eggs okay,
with meat and whatever and potatoes. I'm like twelve years old,
fourteen years old. They're not even sitting down. They're both
standing up. And my grandma, my mom, mom, Evelyn, she
(05:15):
would say to my.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
Pop up Carl, look at him, Carl, look at him, go,
look at him go and called me, I know, I
know what is it with that generation that they got
so excited if their grandkids maybe they're kids too, but it.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Meant so much to them that I was such a
good eater. It's like they were around in the Great
Depression and just in case it happened again, they wanted
me to store up for the next twenty years. Like
what is that, Seaton.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
We were sort of a mix in my house, Like
my mom was definitely somebody who was like, uh clean
plate club, look at you, finished all your food. She
was always very happy about that, but if there were
other people around. We also had like family holdback, like
you don't eat until everybody else is eating, and you
don't eat the less thing, like.
Speaker 8 (06:01):
So I have a little bit of if there's one.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
Left, I'm not touching it. There's no way, okay, okay,
So that's like my wife's family. Yeah, I'm I'm definitely
there's no way that I'm touching it.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
And seating by the same token in my wife's family,
like she thinks it's very healthy to not clean your
plate to show some I don't know, is it prudence
or some restriction, and like it's totally okay to not
(06:30):
clean your plate. I grew up the exact opposite. So
like when my daughters, when my daughters don't finish their food,
it it like goes through me because I was raised
for twenty years you eat everything on your plate. My
wife is like, you don't want to do that. You're
gonna give them a complex. They can eat what they
(06:50):
want and then they don't need to do more than that. Pollie.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
One thing about like the waiting in line for food,
like if it's a buffet style, if you're gonna go
for seconds, you wait to the line has completely dissipated.
Like you watch the line, you monitor the line. If
you got in early with your plate, you finish your
plate and you want to go in for seconds. I
think the general policy is the line's over, now I
can go in. You can't get in the line when
there's still a line.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I have a question on that. What if when you
went through the line you forgot something and you want
it now. It's not a second You're not getting a
second helping of anything. You've decided after hearing from other
people that you want a first helping of something, But.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
That's on you.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
It's towards the end of the line.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Now towards do you have to do you have.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
To get No? No, it's towards the end of the buffet.
Do you have to go all the way to the
start of the buffet? Or can you go right for
your direct target and hit it?
Speaker 5 (07:52):
No, you cannot go right for the meatballs, the Swedish
meatballs that you passed on the first time. You have
to start over and deal with your mistake that you made.
Core and I can see her look on your face.
You're not that guy.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I'd find someone that I'm comfortable with that. Somewhere within
the vicinity of the item I missed and said, can
you got just a few extra ones, and you know,
bring it to me enough, take a few meat balls
off your plate to take four.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
More than your normally would take. I'm not going to
the beginning of the line. It's like fifty people, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
How do we even get on these topics? This is
a sports show. How did that even happen? I don't
even know what we do Friday? That's kind of what
we do, yes, Marvin quick question for the room.
Speaker 9 (08:26):
Are you guys to go plate? Type of person? Like
in my family, it's hey, guys, there's food leftover. He
grab a plate, grab a loom and the foil and
take a plate home. Are you guys take plates? Absolutely?
Guess what. One of my favorite things about my wife
she's huge on leftovers. My in laws did a great job. Listen.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
I have a friend who married a girl. No, I
have a friend who married a girl that said to
me one time, I don't eat leftovers. She's too good
for leftover. She doesn't eat leftovers. I was like, whoa, bro,
that's a red flag like my wife, my wife, if
we have a good weekend eating out. That can be
(09:13):
her lunch at work for the whole week.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
That's a keeper.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
That Oh she's a keeper. There's no question you guys, Okay,
just everybody knows. I promise I'm trying to get to sports.
They keep like giving me signals and go ahead, Fritzy.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
You have to be offered leftovers though, right if you're
not hosting and you're in someone's house, you can't just
stop making some a plate with Kaibar and some Reynolds
Row I'm gonna take sometime.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Of course, it has to be offered. You can't even
ask that they have to offer it. If you're at
somebody else's house, the leftovers are theirs unless they say
to you you should take a plate with you. By
the way, now that we're ten minutes into the segment,
I want to make sure to welcome everybody that's watching
on Peacock all of the four or five hundred Fox
(09:55):
Sports Radio affiliates. Love those of you over at Danpatrick
dot com. I really want to get to a phone call.
Hopefully I will right here eight seven, seven to three
DP show. You can hit us up on social media
at DP show on Twitter X I am at Ross
Tucker NFL really on any platform, so Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, whatever,
(10:16):
and love those of you that check us out later
on via podcast. Shout out to all of you. If
you ever miss me, you can check me out in
the Ross Tucker Football Podcast or the Even Money Betting
Podcast if that is what you're into. Sunday night, a
tough Pittsburgh squad faces a major challenge on the road.
(10:37):
Aaron Rodgers leads the Steelers against Justin Herbert and the
Chargers in primetime seven Eastern on NBC and Peacock. We
got Dane Brugler, who is maybe the best NFL draft
analyst out there, at least when you talk to teams,
they will say the stuff that Dane does is the
(10:57):
closest to what the NFL teams do. He's gonna talk
to us about the quarterbacks available in the twenty twenty
six draft because it's not looking real good right now.
But first we've got to say something about last night's game,
and we got to get to the stat of the Day,
which has brought to you by Panini America, the official
(11:18):
trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. In last night's game,
if you missed it. You should be very happy that
you missed it. Both teams, the Denver Broncos and the
Las Vegas Raiders, had more penalties than points. I believe
(11:39):
it's the first time that's happened since like nineteen fifty.
And that is the stat of the day, start of
the day, stat.
Speaker 10 (11:49):
Of the day, stat of the day, that past stat
of the day, stat of the day. Here comes that
what stat of the day?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
All right, So Fritzy is wearing a Mark Davis wig
because he lost to bet because he laid ten points
with the Denver Broncos. With our buddy in Ohio, Fritzy,
if I had to, where would you set the over
under on the Broncos playoff chances after last night's game?
(12:22):
If you said the Broncos will get to they will
do this in the playoffs and the rest of us
can can take the over or the under.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
I am going to say that they would win the
first playoff game and then and that'll be like a
wild card weekend game, because I'm not convinced they're running
away with a division or and that they would lose
a close one in the divisional playoff.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
And I hope I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Okay, see how that would be for over under. I
think I'm taking the under. I think you're saying they
get to the divisional round. That means that they're beating
somebody pretty good. But it might be a home game
right now. Gosh, such a difference whether or not it's
a home game. Gosh, go ahead, PAULI.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
I looking at them right now. I don't like them
over the Colts, Patriots, Bills, Chiefs. If the Chiefs make it,
Chargers is close.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
I think Patriots is close.
Speaker 6 (13:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
I think the Patriots been not getting a lot of
attention but playing great.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I don't like them over the Colts, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens, Marv.
Speaker 9 (13:27):
I think they might be this year's Minnesota Vikings, where
it's they have a great record, but you don't believe
in them at all.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
That was like the Sam Donald effect last year. Does
that still happen? Do you guys still have scar tissue
on Sam Donald from last year as relates to the Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Well, we talked about it a lot last year because
with four or five games left in the season, the
huge topic goes, what does Minnesota do? Do they sign
Sam Donald? And everyone said, yes, you have to, yes,
you have to his last two games, the regular season
and playoff game. He gave enough wiggle room to move on,
and they went with JJ McCarthy. It's like their decision
was made before by drafted McCarthy, but now when you
(14:10):
watch what he's doing in Seattle, it's it's like revision's
history of what their decision was.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
I'm gonna check it out on social media at Ross Tucker, NFL.
But I do want to hear from a couple of
our great callers that have been holding for a long
time to tell us their bucket list sports venue. How
about David in Texas? Go ahead, David, Hey, guys. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (14:34):
So one that talked into my mind that I thought.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Was really cool is the sixteenth coal at the Waste
Management Open in Phoenix.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
That it looks like a blast every time they show it.
You know, I was out there for the Super Bowl
a couple of years ago, and I guess I could
have gone, but I didn't. I will say this. I
went to the US Open this summer. A buddy of
mine had a hospitality tent. I didn't watch a whole
lot of golf, but I had a blast, and I
(15:04):
had no idea there's like these villages of parties going
on at these golf tournaments that you like. I think
I saw five guys hit golf shots. I wasn't there
for the golf. I was there for the I guess
hospitality is the nicest way to say that. All right,
what about Scott in Vermont?
Speaker 11 (15:23):
Go ahead, Scott's name, So guys five to eleven, one eighty,
you know Dan dan Ed's back room. Guys love you, guys, Ross,
you crush anyone you know that could be filling in
for DP shoes. I'm a celt Sox Bruins Eagles fan.
Because of random cunning hand. My number one venue would
(15:45):
be the Link, but my number two venue would be
one that probably none of us have been to, which
is in Dyersville, Iowa, the Field of Dreams. And lastly,
since I'm on, I just want to reference you know Paul,
you know BC Boys, Paul Revere.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Well, here's a little stat I like to say. It's
that stat of the day. It's that stat of the day.
It's stat going down in sat history. It's stat Stat
stat stat Nice gutsy Scott and Vermont. I like it.
By the way, how about the fact that Scott's favorite
football player ever is mine my favorite football player ever,
(16:28):
Randall Cunningham. Randall Cunningham was like all these guys playing now,
way before all these guys playing now. To think that
that was forty years ago. Nineteen eighty five was the
first Eagles game I went to with my dad, Randall's
rookie year. Gosh, he was absolutely awesome. Loved every aspect
(16:48):
of it. I also love talking with my guy, Dane Brugler.
It's super important for all these teams. How many teams, Paul,
you have a homework assignment during the break? How many
teams right now do you think will and or could
draft a quarterback in the first round? Because we gotta
(17:12):
find out how many guys are even worthy of it?
From Dane Brugler. When we come back, it's eighteen minutes
past the hour here on The Dan Patrick Show.

Coming down the homestretch here on a meet Friday, I
gotta tell you, by the way, it really is humbling
during the breaks to look at my Twitter x mentions
and see all the positive feedback from you guys. I
see it all, and it means a lot. Really really
appreciate it. You guys are the best at Ross tuck Renfl. Oh.
(18:23):
And if you're the people that think I stink, don't
go ahead, don't don't send me anything, just ignore us.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
You know what, I didn't see any today. I'm sure
there are some, but I didn't see any yet today.
Greatly appreciate it at Ross tuck renfl with you for
about thirty more minutes, and then I am going to
see how many ribs I can put in a styrofoam
cup and eat. On the drive back to my beloved Pennsylvania.
(18:52):
We got to get to my guy Dane Brugler. Momentarily.
I think he's fantastic. He always has been highly encourage
you to follow his work for the athletic at DP Breudler.
But I gave Pauli an assignment during the break, and
the assignment was to identify how many teams we think
(19:12):
are going to be in the market for a first
round quarterback. Go ahead, Pauli, All right, here we go.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
This is the current twenty twenty six NFL draft order
as of today. New Orleans number one.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yes, there's a very strong chance.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Tennessee Titans, No, I don't think so. The New York
Jets at three, absolutely, The Miami Dolphins at four with
two one more year on his contract.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
I'm gonna say unlikely, but possible.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
New York Giants at five is a no.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
That's a no.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Las Vegas at six very possible, almost likely. The Cleveland
Cavaliers Cleveland Browns at seven highly likely. Washington at eight
is a no. Since A at nine is a o.
Ravens at ten is a no. How about this the Rams.
Because of the trade with Atlanta, the Rams had the
eleventh pick.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Of the draft. Let me just say this too, for
a bunch of those teams you mentioned Tyler Shuck has
something to say about this for the Saints the rest
of the year. Dylan Gabriel and shoud Or Sanders have
something to say about this for the rest of the year.
I'm just going by. Heck Gino Smith has something to
say about it for the rest of the year. I'm
just going by based on if I had to make
the determination. Right now, Let's go to my guy, Dane Brugler.
(20:22):
I try to get him on my shows as often
as I can, Ross Tucker Football Podcast, sometimes he's on
the College Draft Podcast. He does a terrific work. I
don't know anybody that puts in the time that Dane does. Dan,
I want to start with this, thank you so much
for coming on the show. As always, Who were your
top and this is documented, they don't try to lie. Now,
(20:44):
who were your top five quarterbacks coming into this year
in college football for the twenty twenty six NFL Draft.
Speaker 8 (20:55):
So if we go back to my top fifty that
came out in August, it would have been Archma, Lenora Sellers,
Garrett nus Meyer, Fernando Mendoza, and Drew Aller top five
and they would have spanned between two and like thirty
five in the top fifty. Safe to say that arch Manning,
(21:17):
you know, projection has not panned out the way we
thought it would. I don't even think we consider him
at twenty twenty six prospect anymore. We're looking at him
at twenty twenty seven and beyond nus Meyer, everything that's
happened with that LSU offense that's been a struggle. Lenora
Sellers is tough because the talent is evident, and you
watch South Carolina play and I don't think that the
(21:39):
quarterback's the problem. And so Lenora Seller is still just
twenty years old. He's a young player, and he'll have
a big decision to make after this year about what
his future holds. He's a South Carolina kid. His younger
brother's on the team, So transferring is in exactly the
obvious answer for him. Do you go to the NFL?
Do you really think going back to South Carolina is
(22:01):
going to make you better? So Lenora Seller is kind
of in a weird spot. Fernando Mendoza was a top
twenty prospect coming in. He is only elevated himself with
why he's played as a first year starter at Indiana
coming over from cal He's got the Hoosiers as a
national title contender, and then Drew Aller. Unfortunately, things did
not play out the way he had hoped over the
(22:22):
first month of the season, and then, unfortunately for him,
he doesn't have the second half of the season to
kind of rectify that and make things better after that
season ending ankle injury that is going to sideline him
for who knows how long. You know, hopefully we see
him back during the draft process, so you can throw
for scouts, all right.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
So, who are like the top three or four guys now?
So you know, Paul and I just went over a
bunch of teams might be drafting quarterbacks in the top ten,
it sounds like Mendoza is the only guy that's still
one of the top three or four. Now, is that right?
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Well?
Speaker 8 (22:54):
I think that if you're going to put odds on
it right now, I think Mendoza is the odds on
favor to be the first quarterback draft. I think is
a very similar skill set to say like a Jared Goff,
where the physical traits aren't necessarily going to wow you,
but it's the football IQ. It's what he does pre
and post snap that Indiana offense is very RPO heavy,
(23:14):
you know, so he does a great job of reading
the defense, understanding what they're trying to do, and then
finding solutions is very accurate. You see a lot of
back shoulders, you see a lot of it in that
RPO offense. It's all based on the run. So it's
it's something that I'm hoping that we see Indiana Ohio
State in the Big Ten Championship game just to see
(23:34):
Mendoza go up against a defense the caliber of Ohio State.
That'd be really fun for evaluation purposes. But after Mendoza,
then I think you talk about Ty Simpson at Alabama
that the trouble with Ty Simpson is he's a first
year starter. I mean, he is the rare case of
a player who graduated college before he threw his first
(23:55):
touchdown pass in college. But you just don't see that
in today's NFL because if you're blocked on the depth,
you're gonna transfer. Well, Ty Simpson, he's a five star kid,
waited his turn behind Bryce Young and then two years
of Jalen Milroe finally gets his chance now and you
watch the tape and you see an NFL starter. But
if he declares After this year, he's gonna have thirteen, fourteen,
(24:15):
fifteen starts, and that's that's tough. You look back the
last ten years, quarterbacks that have had twenty five or
fewer starts. We're talking about the Mitchell trubiskis the Anthony Richardsons.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
You know.
Speaker 8 (24:28):
The best quarterback who had such meager experience and has
done well is Sam Darnold. But he needed He's on
his fifth team. He needed those bumps along the road
to become the quarterback that we're seeing today in Seattle.
And then Dante Moore at Oregon would be the other
one I would want to mention, but he's twenty years old,
still young. Oregon pays well. I think there's a good
(24:48):
chance we see him go back for another year for
the Ducks. So a lot will depend on these underclassmen
in which guys come out.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
It's kind of weird, though, Dane, because hearing you talk
and seeing what happened with especially I would say nuss Meyer,
Aller and Sellers. If I'm wreck, if I'm advising Simpson
more Mendoza, I feel like I tell him to go,
(25:16):
you know, because sometimes you come back for that next
year you could play worse you could get hurt. There's
a larger sample size of people kind of picking out
your works. I mean, who's to say that if Simpson
and Moore and Mendoza all came back next year that
they wouldn't have this similar things happened to them, that
happened with nus Meyer, Allur Sellers and Manning.
Speaker 8 (25:40):
It's true, but I think, you know, there's two sides
of it, and especially in today's nil, when you know
you could, you know, Carson Beck could have left for
the NFL and maybe been a third round pick, but
he you know, he went back to school and he's
gonna he's making what four million dollars this year, and
he's still probably going to be a third or fourth
round pick. You know, with Sellers, he's in a tough spot.
(26:02):
But if he were to be on the quote unquote
open market in college football, he would get paid pretty handsomely.
And I still think that his skill set will be
very popular when it comes to twenty twenty seven draft.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
But I think it's.
Speaker 8 (26:15):
Very telling that the Jets they were perfectly fine picking
up those twenty twenty seven draft picks in the first
round when they made the trades this week and I
think that is very intentional when you look at the
quarterbacks this year and then the quarterbacks for next year.
I know it's very cliche to say, oh, just wait
for next year's class, it's going to be better. I
don't know it's scouts. They look at it and they
(26:37):
think that's kind of true this year. Next year you
talk about maybe an arch Manning. We'll see where he's at,
Julian Sayin what he's doing at Ohio State. They're looking
at a twenty twenty seven quarterback class, especially if Dante
Moore goes back, le North Sellers goes back, and thinking
that twenty twenty seven quarterback class could be where teams
really think they can strike gold. And that'll we'll see
(26:58):
how teams thought that last year. Brown thought it was
a one quarterback draft last year and that Cam Newton
or excuse me, cam Ward went number one, and so
the Browns at number two, they went to Plan B.
And you know that's how things played out for them.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
This year.
Speaker 8 (27:11):
We'll see who comes out. I think Fernanda Mendoza will
come out and then any other underclassman, and that there
will be a trickle down effect. There'll be a domino
effect of how these teams operate, and you know how
they look to move around in the draft.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
All right, So Dan, I don't want you to say
anything other than this guy's name because I know your answer,
because I've seen your answer. But then I'm gonna see
something with the guys. Your number one prospect for the
twenty twenty six NFL Draft right now? What is his name?
Speaker 8 (27:40):
Rvil Reese?
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Okay, Fritzy, who does rvel Reese play for? No clue, Seaton?
What position does rvel Reese play?
Speaker 9 (27:51):
Linebacker?
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Marvin? Do you know either the answers to Do you
know the answer to either one of those questions? Edge?
I'm gonna think that, Paul, do you know about r
L Reese?
Speaker 5 (28:02):
I read his stuff before he came on. I read
Dane stuff before he came out.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Okay, so you cheated?
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Yes, oh, got cheated? I read before the question.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
But isn't that Isn't that crazy? That the number one?
I mean Dane. I never heard of the guy last year,
so he didn't play last year and now he's just
getting time. He's an edge rusher for Ohio State. And
I see Dane's clips on social media. He's awesome. Where
do they get these guys because he came out of
nowhere and he's now your number one prospect.
Speaker 8 (28:31):
Well, he's a Cleveland Glenville kid, and so he did
start a few games last year, but it was more
in an injury situation. But yeah, it's rare to find
six four two and forty pounds linebackers in Ohio state
has two of them with sunny styles and RVEL Reese
both are going to be first round picks. Reese the
way he has played this year and really elevated his game,
(28:54):
he is that true hybrid where you want to play
him off the ball, he can do that. You want
to play him on the edge. He has shown that
he can do that with his length, with his power,
the violence in his hands is phenomenal. And so you
see a guy like Abdul Carter go high last year.
That's what we're looking at right now with r VL Reese,
a similar type of player in terms of impact and
what you think you're getting. But I you know, coming
(29:16):
into the year, r VL rees wasn't in my top
fifty because it was all potential and it was all Okay,
we've seen flashes, but until we see a snap in
snap out. It's still a wait and see type of situation,
but I think it was evident from the first game
against Texas. This guy is different. The different ways you
can deploy him. He could be a spy and he's
(29:37):
going to have the burst to chase down the chase
down the quarterback. You want to go up against a
guard one on one, he can do that because he
can win with power, he can win with quickness if
you want to drop him in space. In coverage, he
can cover a wheel route, cover an angle route with
a running back. So it's just everything that he does
is really impressive. But I do think relative to most years,
(30:00):
he would not be exactly what you're looking for in
the top player in the draft. This is a very
light year relative to other years when we're talking about
top five overall picks. So if you don't love one
of these quarterbacks, this year might not be a great
year to be drafting in that top five.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
So, as I was saying, Dane Brugler has no idea
what he's talking about. The number one player in college
football wasn't even in his top fifty before the season,
So don't follow Dane on social media at DP Brugler
he's got no idea. So, Dane, last question for you,
Big game tomorrow, Texas Tech BYU. Now they both have
(30:39):
some real dudes, right, And I think this is as
a result of nil that you know, Texas Tech brought
these guys. I mean there are like legit NFL high
round picks on these teams tomorrow, right.
Speaker 8 (30:54):
No doubt, and specifically Texas Tech, especially at defense. And
that's not what you think of when you think Texas
Tech football.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Right.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
But David Bailey coming over from Stanford, he's going to
be a first round pick, maybe a top fifteen pick.
He's a bullet off the edge. The speed that he
plays with converting that speed to power really impressive. Romelo
Height on the other side, not as highly ranked as
a prospect, but he'll still be drafted and be someone
(31:21):
that is part of a rotation Jacob Rodriguez at linebacker,
and then on the interior, guys like Lee Hunter, a
defensive tackle who's former five star kid. And so this
is a Texas Tech has been ponying up the cash
and it's paying out in a big way when we
watch the games, and we'll see it on draft weekend
when we see a lot of those Texas Tech defenders drafted.
(31:41):
I do think Texas Tech's gonna win that game and
they're going to be in pole position to win the
Big Twelve and get one of those spots in the
College Football Playoff.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
That is Dame Brugler. He's the NFL draft analyst for
the Athletic. He's fantastic. I try to get him on
the Ross Tucker Podcast as often as I can pick
him out on Twitter x at DP Brugler. But just
go ahead and subscribe to all this stuff over at
the Athletic. There's nobody better. Dan. Thank you so much, man,
really appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (32:09):
Now you say I'm you're the best.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Ross all right, hard to believe. We only have fifteen
minutes left. My mouth, my mouth. I'm like trying to
ask questions about football, but all I can think of
is ribs. I this is an interesting question be when
we come back, are you more a baby back rib
guy or more a Saint Louis rib guy? Which is
(32:32):
interesting and we'll have to get to what we learned
as well. To wrap up a very fun meet Friday
here with Meathead James Vanderbeek aka the Ivy League Meathead
thirty nine minutes past the hour. Here are the Dan
Patrick Show.
Speaker 1 (32:47):

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Man just got really close to having a situation. It
was like those movies or TV shows where the kids
like trying to attack the cookies or something and they
have to like physically pull him away. You know, you
guys said, okay, we got him at a minute. I
(33:19):
kept eating. Paula goes, okay, yeah, we still have one
more segment to do. I kept eating. I mean that
could have gotten bad. That could have gotten really bad.
I just had my last bite and then ran in here.
I had how many ribs do you guys think I
had during the commercial break for how did you.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Know you weren't going that fast?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Four is pretty many.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Yeah, but you could do that your sleep.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, But we didn't start for like the first minute
of the break though. I mean it took a little
bit of time. Gosh, this is so good. Shout out
to do unbelievable baby back in Saint Louis. Ribs, beer brats,
jalapeno mac and cheese cole slow. Oh, I'm gonna post
on social media, probably on the drive home. It is
(34:10):
probably the greatest variety of mustard options I've ever seen
in one place in one time. How do you guys
even have that many mustard?
Speaker 5 (34:22):
When our guys go out, if they see a new
one on the shelf of the local store, they just
grab it and put it in the rotation.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Got it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (34:29):
So you always try something new?
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Are you guys? All mustard people? Marv?
Speaker 9 (34:34):
Not regular mustard? I think regular mustard's useless. Spicy mustard absolutely.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Okay, set I could do them all.
Speaker 6 (34:42):
I'm not a honey mustard guy, though, and I'm yellow
is pretty low down. I'm more of a spicy mustard guy.
I have room in my life, a lot of room
in my life for djon two. I really do.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
I think it's really delicious.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
You know. I feel like I only use honey mustard
when I'm dipping a nugget into it. Why is that?
Like if I'm at Chick fil A or somewhere, I've
never actually put honey mustard on something. I've only dipped
things in honey mustard. What I don't understand, what's the
(35:15):
logic there. But if I have like a Chick fil
A nugget, as much as I love spicy mustard, I
would rather dip that nugget in honey mustard. Why is that?
Speaker 5 (35:26):
I think it's just tradition. It's honey Mustard's kind of
like what kids dip with snacks like that. It plays
to a younger crowd. Honey mustard and chicken fingers is
kind of They're almost always together.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
By the way, I'm loading up on the ribs because
I'm gonna be at Lambeau Monday, so I know I'm
gonna have a couple brots Monday. I mean, listen, I'm
still gonna put a couple of brats in my to
go cup with the mustard. This will be tough, though, Paul.
I'm gonna need your guidance as the witch mustard to
(35:57):
fill the bottom third of my cup.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Follow the right guy.
Speaker 12 (36:00):
There.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
I eat it like fun dip. Did I ever tell you?
Did I ever tell you? In task night for my
fraternity in college, I had to eat sixteen unopened hot dogs,
meaning like not you know they're they're like pre cooked,
but like just basically just eating cold baloney. A buddy
of mine had to eat sixty four oil based cheese,
(36:24):
which is really gross. But then my other buddy, they
gave him two sticks of butter and two containers of
Hawaiian punch, and he had to take the sticks of
butter and put it in the Hawaiian punch like it
was fun dip.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
Oh, those are two things that are great stand alone.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
So but imagine like a hard stick of cold butter
in like the grainy Hawaiian punch and eat.
Speaker 9 (36:53):
It like that, Marv. And that's how he's got diabetes
in college.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
That is he actually was. He was in good shape.
That was just a one night thing, but that was
the funny anyway. That's kind of how I do the
brats and the muster in the way home. I just
dip the brat in the mustard. We got to get
to what we learned. The hottest rookies, biggest superstars, and
all time greats. The only place to collect them all
is Panini Trading Cards, the official trading cards of the
(37:22):
Dan Patrick Show. For instant classics, autograph cards, memory bia cards,
rare inserts, and more. Start or continue your collection now
at Paniniamerica dot net. Fritzi, what did you learn?
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Greg, co sellfields, Drake May has played far better than
bo Nicks. May throws and moves effortlessly and plays more
consistently than Bodos Seaton.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
Yeah, Greg cod sells the man.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Oh I like that all right? Is that just because
he said good things about Drake May or just because
of his approach, because he's just.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
Kind of a boss. He's a spicy mustard guy. He
low key sort of visually a boss.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Yeah, I like that. I love it. Don't steal him
from me. He's on the Rawstucker podcast. Don't take him
from me, Marv.
Speaker 9 (38:09):
Your favorite player was Randall Cunningham.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
Yes, you got respect for that. Oh, yeah, absolutely, I
think it was before his time. You have to Paulie.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
As always, the next quarterback class will be better than
this quarterback class.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Year.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
It's always what you can't have.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
It is funny, though, because when you look at like
how some of those guys are playing, like saying in
Ohio State, it does feel like those guys are playing
better than some of the guys that are eligible this
year the guys that aren't, But then they won't play
as well next year for some reason, Marv.
Speaker 9 (38:45):
Every single year in the draft, do you see guys
reaching just because it's a quarterback, of.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Course always, although you know what, Jackson Dart looks pretty
darn good. Some of those teams might regret passing on him. Paulie,
Oh you told us. I'll tell you what I learned.
I learned that Fritzy thinks you pronounced it Paprika. I
learned that Fritzy thinks Paprika is Paprika.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Paul I got some notes on social media and they're
they're supporting what I said.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
I know it's wrong, I guess, but they like that.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
How annoying is wearing that wig?
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Not loving it? I'm looking forward to about eight minutes
from und and taking home.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Oh my, not horrible, but you know it's a little itchy,
little Tingley factor going on in the scalp.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Yes, yeah, you know what, I got a billion dollar
idea for you wigs that don't itch bam. Oh you
need to do come up with wigs that field good.
What do you got, PAULI?
Speaker 5 (39:38):
I got this day in sports history for you. Ross
nineteen seventy three in New Jersey, the first US state
to permit girls to play Little League baseball. Magic Johnson
retired from the NBA on the state in nineteen ninety one.
The let's see Bart Starr of the Packers was sacked
a record eleven times by the Lions. In nineteen sixty five,
and in nineteen ninety nine, Tiger Woods the first golfer
(40:00):
since Ben Hogan in fifty three to win four straight tournaments. Wow.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
I remember that because I remember my dad saying, Tiger's
I think a year or two older than me, and
and he's like, uh, Ross, what are you gonna do
with your life? This guy's twenty two and he's already
won four tournaments in a row. And you know I
was twenty playing college football. My retort was, I can
beat the crap out of Tiger Woods. I don't think.
(40:27):
I don't think my dad was overly amused. What's the
number one game you're looking for through this weekend, Paully.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
I think College BYU Texas Tech. One of those teams
can make it in the playoffs and one goes away
those time type of teams can't lose a game in
November and still be in the mix.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
You're probably right, I'm very much. I think that's where
college game Day is, right.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
I think they're at Tech.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Yeah, I think they are at Texas Tech.
Speaker 5 (40:52):
The last time they went there was that Michael Crabtree
catch Yes, Gram, Harrel.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Yep, Graham, Harrell. I love it, Hey, I love all
of you guys. I love being a part of the
show as a guest and certainly filling in the dan
nets are as cool as you think they are. Appreciate
you guys being along with us the whole show at
Ross Tuck NFL. On social we are at DP show.
Have a terrific meet weekend. Everybody
