Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, final hour, we'll talk to Jeff Passon. We
got baseball. The World Series will be Friday, and then
we'll talk to David Pollock, formerly of ESPN College Game Day.
You know, I brought this up this was last year
and I said, if you don't get Dion Sanders this
last year, you're not going to get him. Well, they

(00:25):
won again, and okay, you can say they're not playing
great competition, they're still winning. Travis Hunter, their best player,
has been in and out of the lineup. Colorado. You
had to former President Obama picked Arizona to be Colorado,
and then Dion was like, what are you doing? You

(00:45):
know you're picking against me, But they're what. They have
one loss and.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
They've got two losses on the season early to Nebraska
that week two game in Lincoln. Then they had a
couple of nice wins Baylor and overtime Colorado State, Central Florida.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
They almost had k State. Yeah, that'd have been big.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
And they finished with Cincinnati, which is tough coming up
here in Texas.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Tech. Yeah, they beat Arizona at Arizona thirty four to seven,
and look, I don't think they're a great team, but
I do think they're a whole lot better than they
were last year. And I thought, if you if you
don't get him last year, you're not going to get
him this year. So making a Bowl that would be
a big deal and understanding where they were before. That's

(01:31):
why when people bring up what Alabama's done, Alabama's got
two losses before the end of October. Last time that
happened Nick Saban's first year in Tuscaloosa. But the difference
is when Saban arrived, they needed a savior. Caitlin de
Borr doesn't have to be a savior. He just has
to go in and pretty much keep you know, keep

(01:52):
them on the rails here and you get a one
year haul passed there. But you got talent on that team.
Give credit to Tennessee, they made plays when they needed to.
Georgia making plays. I thought Georgia was the better team
against Texas. Now I didn't think that going in, but
certainly when you watch that game, it didn't leave any

(02:14):
doubt in my mind that Georgia is still Georgia. Not
as explosive, don't have star power, but you got a
great head coach and you still have you know, usually
an offensive defensive line that's going into the NFL. That
always helps. I still I still have to laugh when
a former college coach, well known coach, when this whole

(02:36):
nil started, and I remember saying on the show, if
I'm a billionaire, I'm going to say I'm gonna buy
myself an offensive line in the defensive line. And this
former coach called me after the show and said, you're crazy.
What do you think we're going to do. We're gonna
we're gonna pay him, give him pizza. I said, coach,

(02:57):
offensive and defensive line. People are going to and a
lot of money. How much money? And I was like,
you're going to buy an offensive and defensive line. It's
going to be expensive. And he thought I was crazy.
So the only guy making money is going to be
a quarterback. He's Jeff pass into the Mothership. Covering the
World Series for ESPN, I wondered about this to start

(03:19):
the show. Are the Yankees an underdog? Do you consider
them an underdog against the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
I don't consider anyone an underdog this series. I know
it's a binary thing where like you're supposed to have
a favorite and an underdog. But I look at this
series and it is so ridiculously evenly matched in my mind.
I know the people who set the lines think they're
an underdog right now, and you know, even in Game
one when they're going to have Garrett Cole out there.

(03:49):
But to me, this is about as coin flip a
series Dan as you're going to get, and to have
that between the two blue bloods who are playing in it,
it's just a really rare treat. I think that baseball
fans are going to be given this time of year,
and you know, as much as I get that there's

(04:11):
like anger over coast versus coast, over a three hundred
million dollar team versus three hundred million dollar team, I
look at this and I'm like, damn, this is going
to be some good baseball. And I'm really, as a
fan of the game, looking forward to watching that part
of it.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
If I would have said to the commissioner back in March, hey,
your star player, biggest name in the sport, is going
to be embroiled in a potential gambling, illegal gambling operation.
He's also coming back from surgery. But Commissioner, the Dodgers
are going to be in the World Series with the Yankees.

(04:48):
What do you think the commission would have said at
that moment when he realizes that Otanis season might be
in jeopardy physically and with the gambling part of this.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
I've never seen Sean rob Manfred Dance. I'm not sure
how good of a dancer he is. Frankly, but if
you ever say Yankees Dodgers to anyone in the Commissioner's office,
they're going to start doing a little you know, a
little jig, a little shimmy, a little something like that,
because this is like, this is their dream.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
But it appeals to young a younger audience as well.
I mean, this is nostalgia for us. I'm curious about
the younger fan. You know, you have Otani and you
have a judge. Is that enough that you know, kind
of captures the imagination of any baseball fan.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Dan, I'm curious about the younger fan too, actually, And
to me, what this series serves as is a litmus
test for just how big Major League Baseball's national audience
actually can get in twenty twenty four, right, Like, I
don't know that in terms of television rates, in terms

(06:01):
of interest from large media markets, in terms of the
things that tend to lead to eyeballs on a series
like this, like you can't do better. And so I
feel like we're going to see the ceiling for Major
League Baseball here nationally, and it's going to be really
good to have that baseline to understand. Okay, just how

(06:23):
much has the national interest in the sport waned in
recent years and how much room is there to grow
beyond that as you try to bring it back from
being more of a local, more of a parochial game
than it's ever been before and take it back to
that national leviathan that it was once upon a time.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Could you imagine that Juan Soto would make as much,
if not more than Show Hey TONI.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Well caveat here.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
If we are adjust for present day value, you know,
because sixty eight of seventy million dollars every year for
the next ten years of Show Heyo Tony salary is
going to be deferred, taking the actual value down somewhere
between like you know, three hundred fifty to four hundred
and seventy five million, depending on how you do the math.

(07:20):
If we're talking about just dollars today, then yes, Wan
Soto is going to crush Show Heyo, Tony. That that
I firmly believe.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
But total contract, total worth of a contract, is he
going to take seven hundred million?

Speaker 5 (07:35):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
I don't think. I don't think Soto's he gets seven
hundred No, but.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
He does Dan.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
He does have one real advantage on his side in
that situation. He's still only twenty five. He's not turning
twenty six until Friday day of Game one. And the
fact that if you are an organization and you want
to get Juan Soto, you can stretch this contract very

(08:00):
reasonably for fifteen years and you're still going up to
only his fortieth birthday at that point. We've seen other
contracts go beyond a player's fortieth birthday. So is it
a possibility that some team goes to him and says,
we want to give you fifteen years and he says, okay,
I want, you know, forty six million dollars a year

(08:24):
and that thing gets up into the seven hundred r Yeah,
like that, that's realistic. That's not out of the realm
of possibility dieting means. But I just don't think it's
going to happen. I think what we are going to
see is like a single season, you know, adjusted for
for all of those things present day value. I think

(08:44):
we'll see a single season high, and I think it's
going to be easily at this point in excess of
five hundred million dollars. If it hit a six, it
wouldn't surprise me at all. But seven just feels like
it's getting up a little too high.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
He's Jeff Passon. He'll be covering the World Series for
the Mothership. Aside from the Marquee players. Give me the
one key player for the Dodgers and the one key
player for the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
I'll start with the Yankees. I think Luke Weaver is
the guy there. We saw what can happen toward the
end of the season, right when the Yankees have a
real closer in place. And I say like real closer,
I mean Luke Weaver coming into the season was supposed
to be a depth arm for this team. And what
he's turned into with his fastball and change up in

(09:31):
his cutter. He is nasty out there. And aside from
the slip up with John Kenzi Noel and the Alcs
and giving up that absolute nuke of a home run,
Luke Weaver has been totally awesome. And I think for
the for the Dodgers, it's going to be Yoshinobu Yallamoto.

(09:53):
The Dodgers are such a complete team offensively. We saw
that right whether it's Tommy Edmund, the NLCSN MVP, Max
Monty who was getting on base seemingly every game, and oh,
by the way, show hey Atani and Mookie Betts and
you can go up and down that lineup and they
are spectacular. The starting rotation is the opposite of that.
We don't know what we're going to get. And I

(10:15):
think what the Dodgers down at this point need is
depth in terms of innings. They need their starting pitchers
to go and give their bullpen a little bit of
a break because there's a strong likelihood we're going to
see at least one bullpen game from the Dodgers in
the World Series, possibility that we could wind up with two,
and because of that, the bullpen has to be as

(10:38):
rested as possible. And you saw it with Jack Flaherty
and his last start just did not get the depth
that he was hoping to. You saw it with Walker Buehler.
He started only four innings, four really good innings, but
only four innings. Yamamoto, though, is three hundred and twenty
five million dollar man and the one whose games are
going to be broadcast back in Japan and have twenty

(11:00):
million people watching them. I mean, the international audience dand
for this series is going to be staggering. And I
think it's a cool part of where baseball is these
days that there's a chance that you're going to see
more people in another country watching World Series games any
two people in the United States.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah, I saw that where the Padres Dodgers that it
was there were more viewers in Japan for that series
than there were. Yeah, here in the United States, certainly
in California. You got do you make picks? Are you
allowed to make picks on the mother Ship?

Speaker 4 (11:35):
I haven't made my pick at this point yet, so
I don't want to spoil it entirely. But that's also.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Danny, we got a drum roll, Wait, are you saving
this for like, pardon the interruption or something.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
I gotta save it for my editor. She'll kill me
if I don't. And beyond that, I still don't know
where I'm going at this point. It's just I see
the Yankees and and how do I pick against Sjuan
Soto the way he's playing right now, And how do
I pick against the Yankees when I anticipate Aaron Judge

(12:10):
is not going to be an average player like he's
been this postseason? And how do I pick against the
Yankees when they've got Garrett Cole and Carlos Redon and
Clark Schmidt the starting pitching advantage? And then I turn around,
I'm like, how do I pick against the Dodgers when
they've scored more runs in an NLCS than any team
has in history? And how do I pick against the

(12:30):
Dodgers when they went out want to must win bullpeny
game against the Padres in Game four and went out
and clinched a pennant with a bullpay game last night.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
No chance O Tawny pitches.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
I mean, I guess there's a chance for everything, But
I'd say he's as likely to pitch for the Dodgers
in the World Series as I am.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
All Right, we'll get that arm loose.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
They need some hand now. There ain't what it used
to be, but working out a cutter la.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Now we're warming up in the bullpen. Jeff Passion, Jeff Passion,
great to talk to you. We'll talk to you during
the World Series. Thank you for your time.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Look forward to it. Dan, Thanks man.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
That's Jeff Passion of the mother Ship. You'll be covering
the World Series for ESPN. All right, let me take
a break. We'll get phone calls coming up. We're back
after this Dan Patrick show.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live seat and update the poll results if you can, yep.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Sure, ken.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Okay, let's say we've got up there. Who are you
rooting for Dodgers Yankees?

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Or can they both lose? Right now?

Speaker 6 (13:48):
Can they both lose? Still running away with this one.
At about fifty two, people's rooting for the Dodgers slightly
more than the Yankees. I think that officially puts them
as an underdog. The Yankees New York Yankees are an underdog.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Well, I think betting wise, they're an underdog. It's just
it's rare when you look at the Yankees and say
they're an underdog. Yeah, but and Dodgers have the home
field advantage, so yeah, that is weird.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
We also have up there, did most did Marvin just
cost himself most valuable Danette seventy three percent say yes, it's.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Not a big deal, and we moved past it that
Marvin didn't reach out over the weekend all the other
Danets did. I mean, I had surgery.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
I mean, but I teed impede for you.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
I don't want to. I don't care about the upede
for me. But I teed teas and peace teas and
pe I teed and ped Yeah at a kindlelight visual
you did you?

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Yeah, oh that's thoughtful. Oh so my wife, I said,
a AQ played a boys me. Why do you want
to play boys to man? Because we're remembering is so hard?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Zeus butchered. I'd love to applaud, but I can't because
you know, I'm surgically repair arm is in a sling.
Was there? Yeah? He did take me to the hospital
because he so Tyler makes meat Friday and then he goes, uh,

(15:24):
how are you getting to the hospital. I said, well,
I need a ride. I'll give you a right, I said, okay.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
You didn't have a siren on the car?

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Now he did not? Just second, no, like one of
those that you put on top you're going through traffic.
There weave. I said, we got plenty of time, and
you know, he map quest. He wanted to make sure
we got there, and then he wanted to come in
to make sure. I said, now I'm good. Just drop
me off a couple hours. I'm going to be done. Well,
who's picking you up? I said, my daughter is? My

(15:53):
daughter's going to be here. Okay, but I'm gonna put
you down in this emergency contact. No, you can't play
this sound effect because people think they're being pulled over.
See you can't do that. Don't do them. No, No,
Marvin Man, you are really really ruining it. You're not
going to be Most Valuable den. At the last time

(16:17):
at least one of Alabama, Michigan, USC and Oklahoma not
ranked in the top ten was twenty fifteen. And now
you have Oregon the fourth team to be ranked number
one this season, so Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. The last
time this happened that there were four different teams ranked
number one in the poll. Go back to two thousand
and eight. Our good buddy David Pollack, the former All

(16:41):
American at Georgia, and make sure you check out the
David Pollock College Football on YouTube. I know that you
went to Georgia. I know prior to the game you
thought Georgia was going to win. But give me just
step away from your bulldogum and tell me why you
thought Georgia was going to win this game.

Speaker 8 (17:00):
Well, I think it's just like anything else, Dan, like
styles make fights, and not every week is the same.
And I think people have looked at Georgia. I thought
they would lose to Alabama. I thought Alabama stylistically posed
a bigger problem to them, even though both were away
from home. You look at Texas, they're not overly aggressive.
I didn't think defensively they had like a real game breaker,

(17:22):
but I thought that they would. I thought they would
have more success on offense. But Georgia defensively. You know,
one of the best players in the country, mikeel Williams
got hurt in Game one. He started to slowly get healthy,
Warren Brentson starting defensive tackles, slowly getting healthy. So I
think that combined with Dan, when you finally give Kirby

(17:42):
smart some fuel ie, just see the postgame press conference.
By the way, you tackle better, You're more energized, you're
more physical. When I can use things against you, and
finally Georgia had for the first time they were an
underdog on the road since twenty twenty.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
And you could tell Kirby was spewing. He was so stall.
The guys were playing really, really hard. When you back a.

Speaker 8 (18:04):
Prideful court program in a corner, tell them they can't
do something, you know, doubt them a little bit, get
them a little bit of fuel. I think you get
the best version of them, where Texas had the pats
on the back and all the good things going their direction.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
And then he was using the fact that everybody on
college game day was picking Texas to beat Georgia. I
know it's weird to us because we didn't play, but
coaches always looking for a little bit or players looking
for just a little bit of motivation. But it works
on eighteen nineteen twenty year olds, apparently one hundred percent.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
By the way, like it worked on me.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
Like I go back and think about some of the
things my coaches used to say to me, I'm.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Like, how did that work?

Speaker 8 (18:46):
Like I should have known they were absolutely full of crap,
But yeah, we're eighteen, nineteen twenty year old kids. And
also Dan being able to show you examples of you
getting beat.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
Show you examples of people.

Speaker 8 (18:58):
Doubting you and who you are are one hundred percent
stokes of fire. It stokes a flame, it makes you
play on it. I'm a football coach now high school
football coach.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Do you know how.

Speaker 8 (19:07):
Easy it is when you go into games and everybody's
talking about you're probably gonna lose, like you don't have
a chance to win. It's the easiest job to get
your team motivated, but it's really hard when everybody's like, man,
you're so good, dude, Like you guys have been playing great,
Everything's going in the right direction. So to be able
to call some of those examples out and like, hey, guys,

(19:28):
we need to work on this.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Here's an example.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
You've really struggled with this to see in live examples
against Alabama, and now I can use that to motivate
my kids. So yeah, these kids, they're they're gonna believe
what their coaches tell them. And finally Kirby had a
reason to go Listen, nobody thinks you're any good. They
think Texas is gonna curb stomp you. And then you
saw the best version of.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Them Alabama Tennessee told you more about which program.

Speaker 8 (19:54):
I think it told me more about Tennessee because I
think that when I look at Tennessee, man, they've been
handling adversity, handling adversity. They haven't scored now in three
straight games in the first half, So to me, for
them to kick it in gear in the second half
and score twenty four and finally get that side of
the football going.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
They have an elite defense. We've known that.

Speaker 8 (20:15):
I think they have a chance to have a special
season because of that defense. But I think moving forward,
Nico has that third down with a minute fifty left
in the first half where he scrambles to the right
and throws a dime. He has the slot fade touchdown
that he's got some things to build on. Did he
still have some misses, Yes, he still had some misses.
But I think Tennessee can be very dangerous. When you

(20:36):
look at their schedule going forward, They're going to be
favored in every game, probably except for the Georgia game
because they got to visit Georgia. But they'll have some
of that same motivation going the other direction. But I
think this springboards Tennessee probably to another level.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
David Pollock used to be with College game. Dang still
one of the more knowledgeable people in America talking college
football his college football podcast on you Tube. A couple
of things here. You know, when the twelve team playoff
came out and people said, oh, there goes the regular season,
they said, no, if anything, I'm going to double triple

(21:11):
the number of schools even more than that who may
have the chance to get in there. That the entire
top twenty top twenty five, Army and Navy have to
be thinking there's a chance we can get in there.
And that's what I love about this. And you can
play some tough opponents early, and you can have two losses.

(21:31):
Maybe somebody gets in with three losses. I think this
has worked out pretty well. I don't know if it's
fair to assess it right now at the end of October,
but it feels like they're just more fan bases that
can be more involved because you have a chance to
maybe make the playoffs. You're thinking, and.

Speaker 8 (21:50):
How is that not winning? Like, how is it not
better to have more people.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Invited to the dance, invited to the party to prove themselves.

Speaker 8 (21:58):
This coincides too with the perfect the ANIL rules, the
transfer portal rules, like it's all coming together because every
roster is so much the depth is depleted on every
great team across the country. Like you're not seeing a
bunch of great backup quarterbacks anywhere anymore. You're not seeing
a bunch of great backup players anymore. I had a

(22:18):
coach in the top five dan, a coach in an
SEC program in the top five like elite program that
literally said, we stop recruiting multiple five star guys once
we get.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
A commitment at the same position. Who the heck says that?

Speaker 9 (22:33):
Like?

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Who says that out loud? You want as miss much
talent as you.

Speaker 8 (22:36):
Can get, but if one doesn't play early, they're gonna leave.
So you put all the time, energy resources into that person,
and now they're gonna leave. So the roster compilation is different.
So now now you have so many guys that can
join the party.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Now that and.

Speaker 8 (22:51):
Here's the thing we haven't seen. We've talked about it
for years. Oh so and so's hot down the stretch. Okay, well,
now they get a chance to prove it. Now we're
gonna see home playoff. Now you've got Army, Navy BYU
who are all undefeated, like Indiana is undefeated.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
So I think more access is good.

Speaker 8 (23:08):
People have complained about players not playing in big games
down the stretch, big games for their school. Well, now
so many more teams in it, so many more players
are not going to opt out and go somewhere else
because so much it means so much more.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
So.

Speaker 8 (23:22):
Yeah, I was against the twelve at first. I wanted
to stick with the four because I'm getting to be
the grumpy.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
Old man like I like what I like to stop
changing it. But it's been pretty cool to see.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Yeah, I agree. I just I want more games to
mean more instead of you get into November and it's like,
well that game doesn't mean anything, just that possibility of
you could get on a run and you could win
your conference. Are you more surprised at Michigan or USC.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
Michigan? I think Michigan Dan.

Speaker 8 (23:53):
If you look at Michigan and listen, they could have
won a couple more games, sure, but they easily could
have lost the USC. They could have lost two more
games as well. There's a good chance if you look
at Michigan schedule they might not go to a bowl.
I'm fine with Michigan, Like I got a ring by
the way, if I'm Michigan fans and I'm flawing and
I don't give a dang if I have a bad season,

(24:13):
But I don't think you'd expect them to fall off
a cliff and not go to a bowl game. The
only guarantee on the schedule is Northwestern left like they
got Indiana, they got Ohio State, they got Oregon, so
they could lose three out of those four and be
sitting at home during bowl season, which is that's crazy
to think about with so much NFL talent and such
a good defense, but the quarterback spot, man in the

(24:36):
receiver spot for them has been such a weakness. And
when you're trying three guys you know good and well,
you ain't got one.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
How do you explain you? I said last week, I
think we over hyped. I think we thought USC was
just because they played a little more defense, they were
somehow going to be in the national title picture. And
I said, you lost Caleb Williams start there, and okay,
you're playing a little more defense, well, playing any defense

(25:04):
is a little more than you did. I just think
the expectation level was out of whack for USC.

Speaker 8 (25:10):
Well, and you're playing a much better schedule, like I mean,
you're playing in the Big Ten now obviously, so it's
gonna be a lot harder. You've got a lot more
teams that can beat you, and stylistically they can line
up and pound you.

Speaker 5 (25:21):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 8 (25:22):
If we point to Lincoln Riley, we can point to
Heisman Trophy winners, we can point to explosive offenses, we
can point to explosive skill players. He's never developed the
line of scrimmage. That's where he struggled. The most man
offensive line. You watch offensive line at USC.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
They're not good. They struggle to keep their guy upright.

Speaker 8 (25:39):
Their backs are really good, Like those backs could be
great players if you gave them space. The system and
the way he coaches, the further he got removed from
Bob Stoops and that physicality and that toughness, the more
you've seen his squad struggle. So I don't know what
to do either, man, because and here's another thing too,
another sneaky thing about Lincoln Riley. He hadn't recruited the

(26:02):
state of California. It's kind of surprising to me when
you go to a brand at USC and you walk
in and here's your recruiting pitch. Stan I walk in,
I'm like, hey, quarterback, you're the best quarterback. Okay, here's
my resume. Heisman Trophy winners, here's my resume. We go
to the fire, we put up the best offenses, number
one overall picks, Like just go ahead and sign on

(26:23):
the dotted line right here. So the fact that he
hasn't been able to get California, Oregon comes in and
gets more California kids. And so I think the recruiting
trail hiring a defensive coordinator that that wasn't as good
at that spot, because if they had a defense the
last couple of years, they could have made some serious noise.
So there's definitely trouble at USC and he's got to
find a way to get more elite talent and to

(26:44):
promote more physicality some way, somehow in that program.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Worse shape Florida State or Oklahoma.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Florida State.

Speaker 8 (26:51):
I mean, I don't even battery one in six, Like
everybody's depressed.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
I mean, and here's the thing I want.

Speaker 8 (27:00):
To start pointing towards the future, Like I can look
at Oklahoma and I can go, hey man, physical, great defense.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
We can't score, we can't throw.

Speaker 8 (27:08):
One of the reasons going into the Texas game where
I felt like Texas's defense wasn't as good as people
thought was because the best teams they played was Oklahoma,
who doesn't have an offensive.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
Pulse, and then they played who else?

Speaker 8 (27:19):
They played Michigan, Like, those are the two offenses that
we've seen their defenses be really good against.

Speaker 5 (27:24):
But FSU, I don't know what I point to, Dan, like,
I don't have a lot of hope.

Speaker 8 (27:28):
Now, I could point the last year and we got
hosed and all that stuff, But this season, man, I
got to start saying, Okay, I'm paying this coach one
hundred million dollars and.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
We're supposed to be going on this trajectory. I know
some years won't work, by the way.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
And I'm okay with because he does such a he
goes into the portal so much, Dan that when you
blend portal players and high school players, it's not always
going to work perfectly, and you're gonna have some seasons
where you'll have some guys that are probably fractured, don't
come together like you want them to.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
One in six not going to a bowl game.

Speaker 8 (27:59):
Like, I'm an optimistic person and I'm a positive person.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
I'm positive there's nothing.

Speaker 8 (28:04):
To be positive about at Florida State, like they're not
good and that's got to be frustrating when you're paying
a coach that much money and you'd like to see
some kind of development throughout the season.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Great to talk to you, It's always good luck with
the podcast on YouTube, David Pollack College Football. What day
does that come out?

Speaker 8 (28:22):
It comes out on Sundays and Thursdays.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
And shout out to you, big dog. Appreciate you taking
my call and helping me out. Man.

Speaker 8 (28:29):
You didn't have to do that, but loved your feedback
and it's very helpful.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
So thank you, my man.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
That's David Pollack, a former All American at Georgia, former
first round pick by Cincinnati Bengals, and it's David Pollack
College Football on YouTube. Well take a break, last call
for phone call what we learned? Watch in store tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
After this, be sure to catch the live edition of
The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Friend of the show, former Cincinnati read Joey Vado on
the program tomorrow. Also, he hosts The Bachelor. Jesse Palmer
is going to be on the program. With us as well. Yeah, women,
you've been forewarned. We've got Jesse and we've got Joey. Yes, Paul.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Even though Jesse is a really good host, I always
was curious about the choice to put him in there
because he's oftentimes better looking than the Bachelor, And when
I say oftentimes, I mean always okay, and I think
that's a dangerous precedent to set his no offense. Jesse's
hotness dumbs down the bachelor guy who's supposed to be

(29:41):
the target of all these women on the show.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
How often do you think the women on the show go,
are you available? Yeah, although he is, And I think
he just had a baby. Maybe his wife had a baby, wow, Jesse, Yeah,
I think so. I didn't know he was off the market. Yeah, yeah,
he's been off the market for a while. His wife
a little while ago, a few years back. Very nice,
very nice woman and good looking too.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Like Jesse should go in unshowered with like a T
shirt and jean.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
But see, it doesn't matter matter, Yeah, like it. I
honestly feel like there's some of these guys in Hollywood
who actually try to not look good, who are good looking.
Josh Dumel has made a career out of h. Let
me wake up and make it seem like I didn't
do anything. I just kind of threw this together, Brad Pitt.
Sometimes some of those guys myself, you know, you just

(30:32):
kind of go. Let me try to ugly it up
here a little bit.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
Just wearing these, you know, two thousand dollars sweatpants, and
I'm dressing down right now.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Well, these sweatpants that I have on aren't two thousand.
Maybe I got him in the year two thousand. There
you go, Okay, okay, all right.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
We were out.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
I was witnessing a seaton and Marvin shoot hoops. I like,
it's like a lifeguard on duty, and you know, in
case somebody's drowning in a terrible shot, then I'll in
and I'll help them. And with my surgery, I can't shoot.
But h Marvin said to no one in particular zone,
defenses are for cowards.

Speaker 7 (31:12):
Oh, without question.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
And I'm like, wow, that's a statement without question.

Speaker 7 (31:17):
Syracuse. You guys play in the Big East, get your
get your butt down, sit in the chair and play defense.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Do they play in the Big East when.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
They did play in the Big Sorry, Oh, that's why
they moved to.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Acc Maybe, maybe, maybe we come up with t shirts
that say zone defenses are for cowards.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
Save the zone defense for the forty in over reck league. Yeah,
guys that have work in the morning, they play zone Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Yes, especially youth sports like eighth grade and under, or
maybe even a little high school zone defense. Doesn't that
hamper your learning of the game, pick and roll and
all that good stuff.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
It's a little easier to get kids to play defense
if they're playing zone defense. Well but that but do
you want it easy on it?

Speaker 3 (31:59):
We make to make it harder on kids.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Hey, I just think if you can get them out
there to do that instead of trying to guard somebody
by themselves. Kids got handles. Now they're taking you off
the dribble. You play zone, you just stand there, you
move around a little bit, you just stand put your
arms up. Don't have to you know you can do
all that ball movement, handle all that doesn't matter. I'm

(32:20):
just gonna stay right here, stay in my little area.
Arms up, yeah, arms up? Come on, go there again?

Speaker 9 (32:26):
Eh?

Speaker 7 (32:26):
Yeh, stay lazy. Kids.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
All I faced in high school were zones. I loved it, Like,
all right, that's fine with me and I you know,
would have loved to play zone defense myself. That would
have been great. Let's see Bob and Montana. Hi Bob.
I'm gonna give you guys the heads up. You got
to right the headline today for tomorrow. There's two games tonight,

(32:54):
so you get to pick one game right the headline.
Seaton hates this. You got to right the head line
today for tomorrow. All right, Bob and Montana, Hi Bob.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (33:05):
Hey, DP first, really quick, I agree with Marvin. I'm
going to fifteen uprec league. We never played out, we
always play mad, so kudos to you there. Marvin. Hey,
my worst of the weekend is last Wednesday was National
Boss's Day, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it
appears that none of the dan Nets or the vrg's
remembered it is. I don't recall any mention of it
on the show last week. But my best of the

(33:27):
weekend is once a month. I'm an elector of my
church and I was up last night, and so part
of the mass they have what's called the Prayers of
the Faithful. You mentioned all the names of the folks
in the community who need jc's special attention. So since
I was up there on the pulpit. I slid your
name in there, Dan to help speed up the healing process.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Thank you, Bob. And I felt that I felt the
hands on me healing me. I'm feeling better just after
that phone call. How about this day in sports history, Pauline,
do you have anything for me?

Speaker 3 (33:57):
I got a couple for you. I got car Alton
Fisk n nineteen seventy five hit a home run in
the twelfth inning of the seventy six win or CINCINNTA
Reds Game six of the World Series nineteen eighty, the
Philadelphia Phillies won their first ever World Series and two
thousand Yankees Mets twelve innings the longest World Series game
ever at four hours and fifty one minutes.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
Let's see if I have something in there. This Bulls
guard records the first four point play in NBA history
in a loss to the Bunks. Marvin Want to take
a guest nineteen seventy nine, Norm Van Lear No, Sam
Smith Smith, Okay, yeah, I got instead the same thing. Yeah.

(34:48):
How about most points scored in an NFL game by
a player who did not score at least one touchdown
On this day in two thousand and seven. This person
scored twenty six of his team's thirty eight points. Paul
Jason Elam the kicker. No any other guesses. It is

(35:09):
a kicker. I'm going to give you the team, the
Titans two thousand and seven. He had twenty six points.
He had eight field goals and two extra points. Paul
baronas Rob baronas Rob baronas my maroonas Alan Atlanta, Hi, Alan,

(35:40):
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (35:42):
Great morning, Dan, but only for college football, not for
the NFL Best of the Weekend. Illinois six and one
in the month of October, in Bowl eligible for the
first time in the forty years of my existence. Bulldogs
went to Texas and came home with some bullhorns to
mount on the wall. And Atlanta United winning the last

(36:05):
game of the season to clench the ninth seed in
the playoffs and squeep their way in. Yeah the weekend,
that dumpster fire of a fourth quarter put down by
Kirk Cousins. And to add insult to injury, Fox Sports
keeps putting that obviously bias against the Falcons. Former ain't
Jonathan Zillma on our games? I swear they keep doing it.

(36:29):
I'm going to their headquarters and starting a.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Right thank you well right the headline Todd.

Speaker 7 (36:35):
Bakers dozen, but it's Ravens over Bucks twenty six thirteen.

Speaker 6 (36:39):
Seaton Tampa two is too oh five and two.

Speaker 7 (36:47):
Marvin Kyler, the creator Cardinals win Oh.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Okay, I don't want to follow that.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Chargers loose of the Cardinals.

Speaker 5 (36:56):
JK.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Dobbins Todd, what did I learn today?

Speaker 7 (37:02):
David pak is generally a positive person, but nothing good
to say about what's going on at Florida State right now.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
