You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Final hour in this Monday Dan and the Dan Nets
Dan Patrick Show. Glad to have you on board. Good morning.
If you're watching on Peacock, that's our streaming partner. Download
the app if you haven't done so. Say good morning
to our radio affiliates around the country. iHeartRadio. Fox Sports
Radio eight seven to seven three DP show. Best and
Worst of the weekend. What you saw that you liked
(00:25):
you didn't like. We have some NFL news. The Steelers
have added Jalen Ramsey to their defensive backfield in a
trade with the Miami Dolphins. Felt like it was inevitable
he was being traded. The question was where was he
going to go? And I thought Baltimore was a chance,
but they brought in Jyr Alexander and Jalen Ramsey going
(00:45):
to the Pittsburgh Steelers. All right, poll question for the
final hour of this Monday program, Seat and we'll get
some phone calls. We'll talk about East Bailey. He is
going to report to the Utah Jazz, but the damage's
already done. He is he has reported to the Utah Jazz.
We can confirm he has reported to the Utah Jazz,
(01:06):
which most draft picks do normally, but with Ace Bailey,
we weren't quite sure because his reaction on draft night
didn't exactly look like he was thrilled to learn more
about John Stockton and Karl Malone and Mark Eaton.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
All Right, Seaton, Which league is tougher to go from
worst to first? NBA, MLB, NFL? Right now, Major League
Baseball has fifty percent of that vote. NBA and NFL
are pretty much even at twenty five percent.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
After that, I.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Feel like NBA is the hardest to go worse to first. Yeah,
I'm surprised by that. People also asking why the NHL
is not an option. I feel like NHL is probably
the easiest to go.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Worse to first.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I need to do a little more research on that,
but guess Paul.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
It's also a factor is how many teams make the playoffs.
Thirty three percent of teams make the MLB playoffs. I
think it's forty seven percent now for the NFL, and
it's over fifty that make the playoffs for the NBA.
But MLB has a bunch of teams. They've had thirty
teams over the past forty years who missed the playoffs
and won the World Series the next year. That said,
(02:17):
some of those teams were pre wildcard when it's really
really tough.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
To make the playoff. Okay, little context, thank you. I
had a little context. By the way, The Malik Beasley
gambling allegations highlight a growing problem in professional sports, certainly
with these prop bets. But Scham's reported that federal authorities
are investigating the Pistons Guard on allegations of gambling related
(02:42):
to NBA games and prop bets as well. And this
is when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, his attorney,
I don't think Diddy many favors Steve Hany says, and
investigation is not a charge. Malik is afforded the same
right of assumption of innocence, says anyone else under the
(03:03):
US Constitution. As of now, he has not been charged
with anything. I would want my representative to say he's
not guilty of anything. He didn't do anything wrong. This
just feels like, hey, you haven't found out anything yet,
so let's treat him as being innocent. Feels like it's
a word salad. You know, I know lawyers' attorneys, you
(03:28):
know they want to give you more. I would want
less here. My client's not guilty, yes, Ton, Well do
you change it.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
Up a little bit? Everyone says the no, we didn't
do anything wrong. It's unequivocally false, and we've all heard
all those before. Sometimes maybe if you mix it up
a little bit get a different result.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Well, I just want the message out there. My client's
not guilty of anything not Hey, he's innocent until you
find out some stuff on him. Yes, Pauline.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Whenever I see a statement in the phrase categorically nys,
I'm like that dude's guilty.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
He's got a good lawyer.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Categorically don catchphrase. Yeah. Speaking of Ace Bailey his agency,
it's so, I guess g s E is the name
of the agency, and here's Andrew WHITLEIEB who is the
president of the agency that represents Ace Bailey.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
We focused, you know again, this was led by his
uh longtime manager Omar Cooper, who's who were partnering with
on this. And Omar really, you know, focused more on
fit rather than going third in the draft kind of thing.
He wanted someplace where Ace could have the best possible basketball.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
Fit for his game.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
And we think Utah is one of the best places
he could have gone.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Hmm, okay, Washington was the other one. In Brooklyn apparently
was the other one, but he did not want to
go to Charlotte. Didn't want to go to the seventy
six ers. Judging from his reaction when they called his
name going to the Utah Jazz, I don't think Utah
was on that list.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Yes, Paul Sunday in Utah, Ace Baylor was introduced to
the media and they limited his time, but he was
asked by a local reporter directly, did you consider not
coming to Salt Lake City or want to join the jazz?
His answer was, I'm just blessed to be in a
position I am.
Speaker 9 (05:31):
He's all in on the jazz.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah, A nice move. Don't answer wow, is that he yes?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Is that a no? Yes? Todd?
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Why did you just say I'm here, aren't I That
would probably be a better thing to say.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
I'm just honored to be in the NBA. That's it.
It's a dream come true to be drafted to play
in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
That's what he said, right, kind of, That's pretty much
what he's kind of what he's.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Said there damage feels like it's done that he doesn't
want to be there. But he's there, and but things
can change all of a sudden if he plays really
well the crowd's reaction to him, or he might love
you know, basketball, crazy city like that, state like that.
(06:24):
Not many guys want to go to the Wizards of
the Nets. But that's a guy who's probably thinking, I
can go and I can get my shots right away,
I can make an impact and maybe I can be
a you know, an all star sooner there than I
can in Utah or Charlotte seventy six ers. Yes, yes, Tom, I.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Wish someone would have asked, maybe they did, what convinced
you to show up? Because there was several report thing
you weren't happy being picked by the Jazz. You know
a lot of people said that it was just I
was just on the list of things you didn't want
to go to. Yet you're here, So what how would
you how'd you describe why.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
You're you change your mind of assumptions?
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Well, is he going to say that. I'd love for
him to say, what are my options? That would be
a great answer, that would make all kinds of headlines.
But I guess I'm stuck here.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well, he's just going to say, of course, I was
coming here.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
Yeah, but then someone's got to fill up and say,
so you deny reports that said that you didn't want
to talk to them, or you know, show them what
you got.
Speaker 9 (07:20):
You didn't those one teams didn't shoot.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
You're saying an athlete may may not lie to the media.
Speaker 9 (07:27):
Of course, make them double down in front of the
new team.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
And then what so who cares? He's here? So what
he's not gonna tell you? No, I didn't want to
come to Utah. All he's going to say is, hey,
I don't know where that report came from, but I'm
here and uh ready to go, ready to ready to
get started. And then maybe you name a couple of
players on the Utah roster. I'm looking forward to playing
(07:51):
with thorough Bailey. Yeah, uh as he's not here. He did,
He's not He doesn't play play here anymore.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yes, Marmon, Shandon Anderson's going to be running.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah, all right, Blake in New Orleans, Hi, Blake, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (08:12):
Hi? I wanted to complete rich Paul's statement. He said
that his client wants to compete now and win now,
but also wants fifty two point six million dollars as
a forty year old with over a half billion in
non court lorna earnings. So rather than take a poultry,
say twenty six million, and spend twenty seven on a
big Lebron wants it all.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
He wants his money. They weren't going to give a
hometown discount, and most guys don't want to do that.
It just you know, the different messages that were sent
by Rich Paul in that statement of you know, hey,
kind of telling us, in telling the Laker organization, Hey,
Lebron wants to win now. The Lakers want to win.
Speaker 10 (08:55):
Now.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Why do you think they don't want to win?
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Now?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
What exactly did they do or not do that would
lead you to believe that they don't want to win.
They're going to keep Austin Reeves, Dorian Finnie, they'll probably
bring him back. They're going to get a big guy.
I don't know how good he's going to be. But
if DeAndre Ayton ends up with the Lakers, they're worst
case you know scenarios for a starting lineup, and his
(09:22):
numbers are respectable. But I I'm getting a I'm getting
a new and improved Luca Like That's what I'm banking on.
We get Luca for the entire year, and he's in shape,
reportedly in shape. So that's the big addition you got.
You got auditioned by weight loss, addition, by weight subtraction.
(09:47):
He should be better. Therefore you should be better. Lebron,
live up to your end of the bargain as well,
Austin reeves. Maybe Dalton connect gets in the rotation a
little bit more. I mean it it's not a great lineup,
but it's a competitive lineup. And we've seen Luca drag
a Dallas team to the NBA Finals. I mean, you're
(10:10):
gonna be maybe a top five, top four seed in
the West. I mean, I'd still put what the Rockets
have done, and I would put Okay see above them.
Do you put Denver above them? Minnesota? Do you put
them above them as well? But I think the Lakers
(10:31):
will be better because Luca will be better. Now, are
you a championship caliber team? No? No, But I don't
know what else could have been done here. Lebron wants
to stay, wants to play with his son another year
and after that. I mean, this feels like this is
(10:53):
his last year. Because if I'm the Lakers, I got
to move on Eventually, as much as I love having
him there, I have my next generational star for you
to come out and see. We had that with Lebron
for eight years. Now we're moving on and we're going
to utilize him, and then after that we have to
(11:15):
move on because we can take that fifty two million
dollars and we can use it elsewhere.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Yeah, Pauling, but the Lakers historically are not like other
franchises that move on from their superstars. They keep them
to the very very end. Kareem Adul Jabbar is last
few years he was a Laker. He didn't finish in Seattle.
Kobe Bryant, they weren't making the playoffs, but they didn't know.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
But Kareem was surrounded still by talented players. Kobe was
there for the last two years, so you could come
out and see Kobe, because that wasn't a good team.
The Lakers are a good team. Lebron's on a good team.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
But I wonder if they manage their team a little
differently by being in Los Angeles. And I'm answering my
own question is that they know that star power for
them is as important as being a competitive franchise, and
they could do both with Luca and Lebron, but like
they don't move on from their high end players early
like some other franchises do.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yeah, I think with that price tag with Lebron moving
on to make it Luca's team with Kobe, you were
coming out to see Kobe. I don't think that there
was you know, they weren't hiding that fact that wasn't
a good team.
Speaker 11 (12:21):
Yeah, Mark, So Lebron's a free agent going into not
this coming season, but the season after. If you're the Lakers,
do you just tell Rich Paul, now, this is going
to be it for us? You know, with this partnership
right here, it just ripped the band aid off instead
of oh what about next year?
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Are you going to resign? And all these questions going into.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
The a I don't want those questions now. I don't
want that conversation.
Speaker 10 (12:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Let's just get through this season, see what happens. But
those questions are still going to be and I'll get
to them, but I don't want them now. Let me wait.
It's like with Aaron Rodgers. If Aaron Rodgers plays well,
if the Steelers let's say go to the conference title game.
Let's just say is Aaron Rodgers walking away Now, he
still might, but the questions if they're playing really well,
(13:10):
will start around week fifteen or sixteen. Aaron, have you
given any thought to maybe coming back one more year?
That's going to happen, But he announces that early, just
so he doesn't deal with that, you know, at least
for the first twelve, thirteen, fourteen weeks. You know, as
I said, you know, start of the year or the season,
(13:31):
you know, this is my last year. Now, reporters are
going to go what could change? Nothing could change right now?
You know, I'm excited, We're going to go into the postseason.
What if you end up going to the super Bowl
but you come back like they're going to have those
questions for him. You just don't want to be answering
those questions in Week one or Lebron James questions in
(13:54):
training camp, even though they're going to be there. Lebron
is this year last year with the Lakers? He might say, well,
it's not up to me.
Speaker 11 (14:02):
Yeah, Marv is the best case scenario, Lebron just saying,
you know, media Day in September, this is my last
year and I'm just going to do a retire, a farewell.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Tour, but I don't know if it is this last year.
Speaker 11 (14:15):
Oh, I don't either, But I'm saying if that's the
best case scenario for the Lakers, like one lesson we
have to deal with going into next summer, and this
could just be Lucas sine.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
But I don't know if Lebron cares about best case
scenario for the Lakers so they don't have to deal
with this.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Oh I know that, but I was just saying.
Speaker 9 (14:32):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I don't. Once again, I don't know Lebron in his
passive aggressive ways, what he feels playing past this. Does
he want to play with his other son, who's going
to be a freshman at the University of Arizona. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
See, I kind of feel like two we might be
I'm probably wrong about this, but overestimating the length of
Luca and building towards the future, you're building towards the future,
but it's probably only for a few years.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
You probably have five years maybe like he's twenty six,
it's twenty six. Yeah see, that's just prime window is
coming up.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Yeah, so you don't have like all of this time
to build for the future because Luca's future is sort
of happening right now.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah too, just like Lebron's Yeah, what's like you know,
Victor WEINBN Yama. You can look at that and extrapolate
and go, we got a decade window here, right uh,
Cooper flag, we got time to build now. Luca's been
in the league, been to an NBA finals now, and
look when Lebron says, hey, I want to win now,
(15:45):
or Rich Paul says I want to win now, I
believe the Lakers do want to win now. But I
also think they are going to need Lebron's salary to
be able to make them maybe a better team and
all around team, a deeper team.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yes, there's definitely health concerns and fitness concerns with Luca
that have been addressed, whether indirectly or directly, that to
me play a role in that.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
But the report early reports are he is in the
best shape that he's been in in years. So that
makes you a better team already. He's taking it serious
to make this a championship caliber team. Yes, yes, Martin,
I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
I think they're going all in.
Speaker 11 (16:33):
So I just don't understand why Rich Paul would say that,
because the Lakers, to me, the last franchise in the
NBA where you're thinking, oh, they're just going to take
a year off.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Let's take a break. There's more to the Steelers Dolphins trade,
and you know the Jalen Ramsey trade to the Steelers.
Somebody's going to the Dolphins. We'll take a break. We're
back after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports

nature and more. Listen to The Fifth Hour with Ben
Maller on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you
get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
By NFL trade standards, this is a big deal. The
Dolphins sent Jalen Ramsey, tight end John hus Smith, who
was a pro bowler I think last year, a seventh
round pick in twenty twenty seven to Pittsburgh in exchange
for Minka Fitzpatrick, who plays safety, and a twenty twenty
(17:57):
seven fifth round draft pick. Getting John hu Smith is
a big deal. You give Aaron Rodgers another target there.
I don't know what Jalen Ramsey has left. You also
get a seventh round pick Mika Fitzpatrick. If I'm TJ. Watt,
(18:20):
now I know the Steelers are all all in and
I'm going to get my forty million dollars a year, Yes, Pauline.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
John hu Smith has bounced around the league. He was
in Tennessee, New England, but last year in Miami at
age twenty nine eighty eight catches almost a thousand yards,
eight touchdowns under contract.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Well, I'll sign up for that. That's nice, Yeah, paul
and the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
I'm looking at their depth chart. They add Dk Metcalf,
they had John hu Smith. They they're running backs. They're
not spending on running backs. They're not really spending on rogers.
They're pretty pretty pretty good shape financially.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
They're going to spend a lot on TJ Watt though. Yeah,
in a costume at least forty million a year. But
you know, Rogers, that's a team friendly deal. Who else
makes a lot of money on that too? Cam Hayward,
that's pretty good. All right, let's see Sebastian in Utah. Hi, Sebastian,
(19:19):
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 6 (19:21):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (19:21):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Fellas?
Speaker 10 (19:22):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (19:22):
I appreciate you guys, thanks for taking my call. That's
the worst of the week. I'm sorry to kick a
dead horse here. But best is Ace Bailey's in town.
We'd love to see it.
Speaker 13 (19:33):
The worst is the freaking media, Dan, He's eighteen years old.
Speaker 8 (19:37):
Who cares if we don't have night life here? He
can't do anything anyways. We've got plenty of arcades for him.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
I don't know why. He may not have wanted to
go to Salt Lake. I can tell you that when
Utah was in the NBA finals, I had a wonderful
time there. I had a wonderful time. Great people. You
can find what you want to find just about anywhere.
Just say yes, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
But NBA eighteen, it's not R eighteen.
Speaker 11 (20:10):
No, he's He's Ace Bailey, so he can get in
any club he needs to get into in any city.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Yeah, that's not our.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Eighteen Yeah, or maybe you wait until you get on
the road if you want to go out. Well, but yeah,
I don't know. Is that what the media is saying
that there's no nightlife there for Ace Bailey in Salt
Lake and that's why that's why he didn't want to
go Okay. I just don't know if this helped. I
know that you're trying to steer him and trying to
(20:38):
get him to the right places. I just I believe
in karma, you know, like, go through the workouts, go through,
maybe you find something, maybe you click with somebody you
didn't think, Maybe you like a city more than you
thought that. I don't know. I just having a myopic
(20:59):
view in saying these are the places I.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Want to go.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I get it. If you have the power and you
want to do it and you can take the backlash
of social media, fine, but you have to tell your client, hey,
this is what's going to happen. Are you ready for this?
And I don't know if at eighteen years of age
or nineteen years of age you go, yeah, I can
(21:23):
deal with that. I'll just turn off my social media. Yeah, point.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
I think what you mentioned about social media is the killer.
I don't It's hard to picture an Eli Manning happening
today where his father and his agent work it quietly
before the draft. It would never be quiet in this
era of all this reporting.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
PJ in Atlanta HIPJ Hey, buddy, Hey, yeah, five to
eleven at Tennessee one seventy.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
I'm a LEFTI yeah. Ace Bailey needsed to grind on.
Ricky Green and Adrian Danley highlights look best of the weekend.
Roger Malty enough.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
To Patty he doesn't have to sign his ball. He's
part of the media.
Speaker 8 (22:03):
First of the weekend, Patty wore, all.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Right, yeah. Padrig Harrington had some words with Roger Maltby
with NBC. He was the course reporter and he accused
or said Roger Maltby should have been helping somebody find
their ball. And Roger Maltby, who's the former player, said
not my job to help find a golf ball. And
I don't know if it's against the rules for a
(22:28):
reporter to do that. You'll see reporters who will help out.
But Roger Maltby said to Patrick Harrington, hey, it's not
my job, and it looked like they were gonna like
to go to blows there like an old guy fight there.
You don't want to mess with Roger Maltby. No, you don't.
(22:50):
Mike in Wisconsin. Hi, Mike's on your mind today.
Speaker 8 (22:53):
More than pillows. Just wanted to propose a new award
for you guys to hand out. You guys do the
most valuable banty? What about the most valuable Dan Patrick
Show contributing states. That'd be the MVDPS. Yes, uh, you
could base it on caller contribution or experiences from when
(23:14):
you guys take the show on the road. I think
Wisconsin and Iowa are leading way right now.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Well, Wisconsin showed out certainly at the draft. That was great.
Hopefully we get to Iowa. We're going to Lake Tahoe.
We're going to be out there. What is it next week? Yeah?
Is it a week from today? We're flying in Does
that sound right?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
That's right? Well?
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Okay, dang, yeah, that's like right coming up like next week,
next week.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
You got to be in there. Yeah. I think we're
flying on Monday, getting set up on Tuesday, during Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, yeah,
and then going to Notre Dame USC. We got to
get that situated where we're going to be set up
there Notre Dame. People been great helping us, but we'll
give you all the details whenever we get him. So
(24:06):
it takes a little bit of time. This isn't just
where you pick up and you go. There's a lot
involved with this, and because we want to make sure
the show looks great as well as sounds great. Because
Peacock is our streaming partner, so it's a TV show
as well. But the big german, that's his job.
Speaker 10 (24:25):
Now.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
He goes on the road and he will set this
up and we'll make sure we let you know everything
about it, and if you can come and visit us,
we'll let you know as well.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
Yes, Pa, the American Century, the golf tournament out there
at Tahoe. Steph Curry takes that real seriously. He's a
legit golfer. Yeah, he wanted a couple years ago.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah. Yeah, Oh he's really good. I'm not surprised. I
don't know if Mahomes is going to be there. He's
got a lot of little ones at home. I think
that might be you're going to stay at Mahomes, Travis Kelcey.
I think it's going to be there. Aaron Rodgers, I
believe is going to be there. Ay, ron if Travis
(25:09):
is there, Taylor's gon.
Speaker 9 (25:13):
T Swizzle.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Yeah I heard.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
She's always wanted to go to a celebrity pro am
and like Taho, it's like real.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
He on the bucket list. She attended tight End University,
uh and and performed there at tight End University. Andy
and Rhode Island. I Andy, what's on your mind today?
Good morning?
Speaker 8 (25:36):
Then what's up?
Speaker 6 (25:38):
Then?
Speaker 10 (25:38):
At then? I am fired up like my mom's traders,
and I'm just gonna get right to it. My best
and worst for the weekend. Your your favorite Harry Kane with.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Tool Gold, Harry Tomato and the worst on the Womanly
It's in Miami.
Speaker 10 (25:55):
Got man handled by PSG like they took him to
the woodshed.
Speaker 8 (25:58):
And for all the Ronaldo haters, come on, look at messy.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
What did he do?
Speaker 10 (26:03):
I'm waiting.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Those teams are a lot different in talent level. I
would say yes, he yeah, yeah, and Andy gets it.
Andy gets it. That's a good take. Yeah, Ronaldo, he
is he? I don't know. That's the big debate. If
he wins another World Cup.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Well, Ronaldo has to win a World Cup That's the
big thing that's splitting him and Messy is Messi won
a World Cup?
Speaker 11 (26:33):
But if he does, Yes, Marvin, in basketball terms, is
this Lebron versus Durant as far as Messi versus Ronaldo
or Curry Lebron?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Okay, Marvin told me Kevin Durant's going to be on
Lebron James podcast. Do you think this is a random thought?
Do you think Kevin Durant thinks he's better than Lebron James? Yes, yes, yeah, Paul,
no doubt.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Okay, he can't answer it in that fashion, but no
doubt he thinks it.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
If I'm Lebron, I would ask kd you think you're
better than me? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:14):
How do you phrase it?
Speaker 9 (27:15):
Just like?
Speaker 3 (27:15):
That's like that, Let's say yes, no answer, yes, So
you have to say why do you think you're better
than me?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yes? If he says yes, and then I would say
why damn? That would be good? Think you're better than me?
Do you think Steph Curry thinks he's better than Lebron? Yeah? Yeah, yes, yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
You asked Steph Curry on this show right before the
season he won his first MVP. Who do you think
is the best offensive basketball player in the league. He
goes me, yeah, and it was the biggest story for
a week. You have to think that way.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
I think Draymond Green believes he's better than Lebron James.
There's a lot of dudes that are like, yes, Todd,
I'm better than that.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
We've had several.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
Guests give that. Saint Pat answer that. But Paulie was
just saying, you have to have that mindset. This way,
You're not making it personal that I'm better than you.
I think I'm better than everybody, because that's the way
psychologically I have to, you know, attack the sport being
better than everyone.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
No, but you have to be realistic. You have to
you do Rice Young if I said, are you better
than Patrick Mahomes is not going to say yes, right,
He's not like there there has to be reality with this.
Do I think Durant thinks he's better than Lebron? Yeah,
I could see that, Steph. He might say I'm a
(28:30):
better offensive player, He's not a better player. We know that.
Does James Harden think he's better than Lebron James?
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Marvin, Yes, really, yes, when you're at that level.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Yes, Yes, there's some delusional dude, joh because.
Speaker 11 (28:50):
You know what, when they say the term, a lot
of basketball guys uses roll the ball out.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Do you think Kawhi thinks he's better than Lebron?
Speaker 11 (29:01):
Yes, okay, when you're at that level, those guys have
to think that way.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Paul George doesn't, though.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Paul George is like, yeah, no, he's better than me.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Slightly, just slightly better if I was healthier. If I
was if I was healthier.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Maybe he's definitely better than me. I'd love for Lebron
to say to kat you think you're better than me?
And then he'd say yeah. Then I'd say, why dang,
It'd be good. M What do you think?
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Mary? And I think?
Speaker 11 (29:40):
Also head to head, Katie's beating Lebron twice in the
NBA Finals, lost to him once, but he's beat n twice.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Just throwing that out there, trying to make a good
podcast for somebody.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Any other questions you want Lebron to ask Katie.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Who do you think is better than me? Have him
name some other players. I don't know why I'm fixated
on that, but I am. I just think that'd be great, Katie,
Thanks for sitting down. Let's talk about me. Who else
do you think is.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Better than me?
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Do you think anybody's better than me? What about me?
You could say that, you know, if you got around
to like legacies and rankings and and then you say
to Katie, who do you think what active player is better?
Better than me? And see what he says that way
(30:37):
he doesn't go well, you know, I would give Mike,
you know, just a little bit of an edge on you.
Cameron in Indiana, Cameron, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 8 (30:48):
No, Hen, I finally worked up the courage to muster
up and eat some kroll.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
You are right.
Speaker 8 (30:56):
I was wrong about the Pacers. That's why you're at
the King and I'm not.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Well.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Thank you, Cameron. I'm not sure what I said other
than I thought they were going to win this series.
But thank you for the phone call. Let's see Zack
and Knoxville. Hey, look who's back at Zack and Knoxville.
Speaker 13 (31:20):
Oh hey, DP, thanks for squeezing me in with all
those guests you've had book today, Odwater, Yeah, I just
wanted to comment on the passing of Dave Parker. I'm
a big Cardinals fan. Actually went to make a wish
trip in ninety eight when he was the hitting coach,
and he was really generous with his time meeting and
(31:41):
talking to my whole family. And I have a program
that he signed that I want to send it in
to you if I can, Okay, somewhere in the man cave.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Okay, that'd be nice. Thank you, Zach. There there's a
few guys that when they came to the plate that
probably made you nervous. I mean, Jim Rice is one
of those guys. When he came to the plate, it's like, damn,
this can't be good. Frank Howard was he was six seven.
(32:16):
I mean back then, nobody was six seven. You know,
a big guy in baseball was six three, two twenty five.
But he was but he wasn't a great player. But
when he hit a home run, like he hit four
hundred and fifty foot bombs. But you know, Dave Parker
got to the plate and all of a sudden, you
(32:37):
know that's if I'm a pitcher. Now I'm taking inventory
here of making sure I don't lose a limb. But
there's there's a few. Albert Bell had a run where
Albert Bell when he came to the plate, you know,
these guys looked like they were football players. There was
that intimidation factor. Every time Willie Stargel would start his
(32:59):
you know, he'd wind up with his bat and you
were like, oh boy. Willie McCovey was another one. If
you were of a certain generation. When he came to
the plate, it was like, gosh, like the first basement
I I I'm gonna say prayers for you. My sympathy
is to that first baseman. Certain guys that they just had,
(33:21):
and I'm you know, they're Baseball's littered with some of
these guys, but those come to my Jim Rice and
Dave Parker were two guys, one right handed one left
handed batter, and they came to the plate. Their intention
was to do some damage. All right, Well, take a break,
last call for phone calls. What we learned, what's in
store tomorrow After this.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
James Harden re signs renews with the Clippers two year
deal a little over forty million dollars. Okay, he's thirty
and and they're nice numbers that he put up. But
he did a great job the first half of the
season when they didn't have Kawhi. But you know, if
you're gonna give me twenty three and nine, all right,
(34:13):
I'm fine with that. I don't know what forty million
gets you anymore, But all right, got James Harden at
age thirty six and thirty seven and thirty eight. Yeah, Pauem.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
We talk about guys whose careers are gonna be hard
to quantify when they're done. He might be a one seed.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
He was must see TV for about four years for me.
He was unstoppable, and I mean guys talk about his size,
like how solid he is, and Lucas this way too,
that they're just they're they're inviting contact because you'll bounce
off them, not the other way around. So they they
(34:53):
can get in the lane and they can create separation
because they use that their body. They they like the contact.
Speaker 11 (35:00):
Yes, Mark, had James Harden stayed in Oklahoma City, he'd
have Klay Thompson's career six time All Star two rings.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
He'd be known as a winner.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Would they be a winner if he stayed there?
Speaker 11 (35:17):
Young Thunder team got to the finals. I think they
would have pulled at least one out.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Fair enough I'm trying to watch this show called water Front.
It's on Netflix. Four episodes in and it's like their
number one show. So now I'm there. Now I'm in
too far, So now I have to watch it.
Speaker 10 (35:40):
I just.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
He can't help but watch these and it feels like
they want to be Ozark, but nobody's going to be Ozark.
So I'm watching it, but I'm like eh. And then
I'm kind of sorting and that. My wife goes, you
want to go to the movies and see something really scared.
I don't know what that movie is, but I go, no,
it's like apocalyptic, and I go, no, I'll go see
(36:07):
the Brad Pitt movie in the theaters he has.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
Twenty eight years later.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (36:11):
That's a real spooky looking movie.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
She asked me that last night. Hey, do you want
to go see a scary movie? I said, no, it's apocalyptic. No,
And so I said, I'll go see Brad Pitt. Just
see it in the movie theater. So I might do that, Yeah, PAULI, I.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Saw two different movies this weekend. They've already been out,
but I caught up on him. Last Breath with Woody
Harrelson about a deep sea diver incident.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
I saw that when in the theater.
Speaker 5 (36:37):
That's pretty good, right, Yeah, that was really good, not great,
but really good.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
But he's not like he's not really involved in it
as much like he's not diving. No, he's like the
boss of this. His last dive, Yes, his last dive
and they're in the North Sea and uh yeah, good stuff.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Yeah, my wife was really tense. The other one I
saw this weekend, The Beekeeper with Jason Statham. Yeah, you
saw that one. Yeah, that's some wild violence. Yeah, even
for a Statham movie.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Yeah, he's he's a bee keeper bowl, but he is
keeping some secrets. He he's he has mastered those kind
of movies where you know, uh, like who is Who's
the guy who's gonna hunt you down and he's going
to kill you? Liam Neeson. Liam Neeson has his movies.
Now Denzel has the Equalizer, and it feels like Statham
(37:35):
has his. These are my movies. This is how much
it costs, this is how much we're gonna make. And
they do it again. There'll be another bee Keeper, probably
Beekeeper too, probably just to answer all the questions that
were left unanswered in Beekeeper, Jason Statham though he know
it's what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Your friendly neighborhood beekeeper who's also a trained assassin.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Yes, yeah, that's exactly the exactly.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
That's the exact summer of the movie.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yeah, yeah, that sounds great. Yeah. Well, you know, if
you like that, there are times when you just want
a movie where you go just entertain me. Please, I
gotta I don't want to be thinking and just just entertainment. Yeah, poet.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
The first death in the movie is like four minutes. Yeah,
there's almost no ramp up up plot and I loved it.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Well, what was the movie he just put out where
he was a worker, working man, working man? Yeah, yeah,
and he just the budsman he does.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
He's who goes to his average everyday job, is also
a trained killer.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Yes, but he's trying to leave that past in the past.
He doesn't want to be that. He don't want to
do that anymore. But then he's forced to when the
daughter of his boss is kidnapped. The working man, Jason Stath,
I recommend you don't do that. Done to punch in
(38:59):
if you know what I mean. This day in sports history, PAULI, the.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Movies actually called a working match, Yes, that your joker.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Yeah, yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
This dance sports history. Please the LA Dodgers pitcher Sandy
Kofax in nineteen sixty two through his first career no
hitter against the Mets, and oh this is said. Nineteen
ninety four, the US Figure Skating Association stripped Tanya Harding
of the national championship. Nineteen ninety four.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
I'm not going to make a skeptical of my box
fabulous on this date. The Magic select Chris Webber with
the first pick and then trade him to Golden State
for Penny Hardaway and three future first round picks. What
did those picks turn into? Hmm, I'll stall Paulie while
(39:52):
you look and see who those picks turned into. Because
Weber and Penny who had a better NBA career? Sea
Webb played longer, and you got three first round picks.
All right, Yes, Bunny.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
Traded for Anthony Hardaway. Those first round picks turned into
Todd Fuller the NC State.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah, one of them.
Speaker 5 (40:20):
Turned into after it was traded Vince Carter, oh gosh,
And the other was used for Mike Miller sharp shoot
up shure, Florida, Florida Gator. Mike Miller won a title
with Lebron, didn't he Yeah, he could shoot you shoot
a little bit shooter. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Uh so, nice day for the Steelers. They get Jalen Ramsey,
and they get John hu Smith, a tight end who
had eighty plus catches nearly one thousand yards and eight
touchdowns last year. And Mika Fitzpatrick is on the move
going to Miami. Todd would you learn today?
Speaker 6 (40:56):
David Purtera, mccovers the gambling industry for ESPN, says prop
that's depth, a concern in.
Speaker 9 (41:00):
That a player can more easily manipulate overs and unders.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Satan, Steelers made some moves, Marvin, your best present wasn't
for you. Paul loved the ating game, Todd Wood and
I learned.
Speaker 9 (41:11):
Marcus in Texas has your back, he said.
Speaker 6 (41:13):
The NFL does manipulate some of the schedule for weaker
teams to be better the next year.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Thanks for the calls. We'll do it again tomorrow, Fritzie, Satan,
Marv Paula yours truly. Thanks for joining us,
