these spirits tab and you're good to go. Stat of
the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official
trading cart. So the Dan Patrick Show we will play
in or out coming up. Also, Fritzy just offered me
this poll question. Allowing Pete Rose into the Baseball Hall
of Fame posthumously is kind the right thing to do?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
We're cruel, Todd. I'll ask you.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I want to see him get in, but my first
inclination is cruel.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
We could let him in after he dies, so he
can't appreciate everything that comes with that.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
All right, what about you, Marvin?
Speaker 6 (01:05):
I think it's cruel also, all right.
Speaker 7 (01:07):
Paul, cruel. He should have always been on the ballot.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Seaton, Yeah, intentionally cruel. Well, he can't be on the
ballot because he was permanently banned. If it was a
lifetime ban, that he would probably be on the ballot.
But President Trump meeting with Baseball Commissioner Rob manfred a
couple of weeks ago, this was a topic of conversation. Now,
there was also a topic of conversation that had to
(01:32):
do with players coming in from Cuba and Venezuela with immigration,
and I get the feeling, just a feeling. We have
invited the commissioner on. I have a feeling that the
commissioner will probably wash his hands of this and maybe
lift the permanent ban, because permanent is different than lifetime.
(01:56):
Now that doesn't mean Pete makes the hall. But if
you're the commit now you've done this because it feels
like there's some things that the commissioner might want from
the President, and it feels like the President wants Pete
Rose on the ballot to get into the Baseball Hall
of Fame. I think that's going to happen, and I
(02:16):
don't have any intel on it, and just reading the
room here. Because this commissioner, this was a non starter.
I mean I'd been around him before, I'd been around
the previous commissioner in private settings. It was just a
non starter. It was not coming into the conversation because
there was no upside. But here's Pete posthumously. And I thought,
(02:39):
if he gets in, then I said this the last
few years, it would be posthumously.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
And that may be the case.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
If you put him on the ballot and he gets
voted in, okay, And if he doesn't, then the commissioner
can say, all right, we put it out there and
he didn't get enough votes. I think he would get
into the Hall of Fame. And then it comes down to, well,
what about this steroid guys. I really felt like the
(03:06):
steroid guys cheated the game itself.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
You know.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Pete was you know, he had an issue. He had
a big issue, a gambling issue, and he was addicted
to it and he would gamble on everything and anything.
And what happens sometimes is you get back to what
you know better than the other sports. And I say
this firsthand because the guy that I bet through also
(03:32):
took some of Pete's action.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I knew what Pete was doing. I mean it was
an open secret.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
And even the guy that I bet through, he'd say, Lee,
your boy, man, does he bet on stupid things like
Pete had a satellite dish. Remember when you could get
those big satellite dishes took up the backyard and he
was getting hockey Vancouver Cutnoggs. He was betting on everything.
But you know, he was a gambler. He was addicted
(04:00):
to it and it cost him costume dearly here. But
do I think baseball will let him in or at
least give him the opportunity. If you do it, then
you got to put shoeless Joe Jackson on the ballot.
Got to put him on there as well, if you're
going to be fair as far as steroids go. I
think the younger group of reporters covering the game might
(04:27):
change their futures. But it's still you know, if Bond's
and Clemens and that's going to be on the Veterans Committee.
I mean, I still think Kurt Shilling, I mean, you
want to talk about somebody, no matter. I'm not going
to factor in his you know, politics here, but everybody
else is. It's Kurt Shilling says some crazy things, he
(04:47):
believes in some crazy things. But when he played, he
was a Hall of Famer and you gotta draw the
line somewhere, but they will say, well, you got a
factor in character, and okay, is it the character of
the Hall of Famer during his career, is it the
character of the Hall of Famer afterwards? But I mean,
(05:09):
I'm thankful I don't vote on something like this because
there's so many things that you're supposed to factor in
or not factor in, depending on this sport that keep
an eye on this story, because I truly believe Pete
Rose will they will lift the permanent ban, and I
think that he will get the opportunity to And this
(05:29):
is gonna be a big conversation coming up, you know,
this this summer in Cooperstown. I just I don't want
you to be blindsided by this. I think it's going
to happen. I think people will get posthumously the opportunity
to be on the bout. All right, A few phone
calls in here. Let me see Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 8 (05:51):
Hey Dan, good morning, Good morning. I wanted to offer
just a little bit of unsolicited programming advice, one for
the NFL and one for the DP show. You know,
I'm a Houston Texans fan and I got to feel,
you know, watching the first round, I kind of got cheated,
you know, like, yes, you got to you got to
trade out get smart picks. But I waited for two
and a half hours and then all of a sudden,
(06:12):
my pick that I'd been waiting on was taken away
at the last second, and I felt a little dislated.
So I don't know, there needs to be some kind
of compensation for fans of like Mann. Can we get
like a week of red Zone for free or something
at some trade offs? And that was miserable. But also
for you guys for the DP show, look, we got
(06:32):
a lot of guys calling in saying, hey, how do
I handle being a dad? How do I handle a proposal?
How do I handle a wedding? You guys have given
the advice pretty regularly over the last few years. If
I were you guys, I would create a web page
or something on the website and say go to here,
DP dot com, dpshow dot com, slash how to or something,
and that way your advice is there. You know, Marvin's
(06:55):
great love advice all of you guys is a great
advice on how to connect with your dad, handle lots
to death, lots of sickness. I think it'd be a winner.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Well, thank you, Lucas. I'll take that under advisement.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Where somebody says, hey, I'm a new dad and got
any advice. Hey, my daughter is getting married, any advice,
then I could just say just go to Danpatrick dot com.
The tutorial is there, since we have all the answers,
and nobody can describe love and marriage quite like Marvin can.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
Absolutely, I have nothing to offer you.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
I know when we were going around the room and
we were saying, hey, what are some what's some advice
on you know, happy marriage, A long marriage went around
everybody and all of a sudden I go to Marvin,
and Marvin goes, I got nothing for you. You had time,
you had time to think up something I did.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
But I don't have anything. You better like them, that's
my advice. Yes, I love so and so.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
I didn't ask you if you love them.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
You like them, you fall in love, You stay marriage
married because you like each other. You like each other
every day. Go on a road trip with your wife
for like a week, you'll find out if you like
or if you love.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yes, eton let me make sure that mine's.
Speaker 10 (08:12):
Going to work out first before I give everybody else
a bunch of advice.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Okay, at what point do you go now? I think
like twenty years, twenty years?
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Fair? You know, sample size here we can go.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I could give some advice here, like Marvin's been married
ten years, twelve, twelve, Okay, but you get to twenty
can you give advice. I'm going on thirty eight, so
I can give advice whether it's applicable or not.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
Yes, Paul, I thought you were saying, when do you
know it's going to work out? Oh, like the marriage.
I think you make that decision in your head and
then start having children, like you got to make sure
you're like, I feel one hundred percent about this thing.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Let's move forward well.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
And then you'll get couples who they you know, we're
not doing well, we're gonna have a kid, and I
always going no, no, no, no no. That makes it.
That makes it even harder. That means you're you're further
away from each other, and you have a baby. We
know we're gonna try to you're gonna, yeah, we'll just.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Have a baby.
Speaker 11 (09:16):
Yes.
Speaker 10 (09:17):
I had a buddy of mine one late, late drunken night.
We used to get after it pretty good. Together and uh,
we just found out that they were having another baby.
Uh and he late into the night, we were outside
having a cigarette and he was just like I was shocked.
It's like I was just about to suggest we take
a break and oh guess that's not gonna happen. Oh dear, yeah,
(09:42):
oh dear. Yes, well it looks like you're in for
it there.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
How about don't have a child thinking it's gonna bring
you closer together, just saying just say, Robin Orlando, Hi,
Rob would sign your today.
Speaker 12 (10:01):
Hey Dan, good to hear you guys. As always, I
got a quick name for the Heat from last night.
And then I want to answer Fritzy's question from last hour.
I think the Heat evacuated themselves last night.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Okay, all right, I.
Speaker 12 (10:17):
Mean like evacuated themselves from the playoffs completely.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah literally, yeah, yeah exactly.
Speaker 12 (10:24):
And as far as that, Todd asked them about what
Steeler fans think by Aaron Rodgers. None of us want
him here, Like, honestly, I would rather go into this
season with Mason Rudolph. And I know that sounds crazy,
but the best move for us at this juncture. Forget
Aaron Rodgers trade, give the Falcons a six round pick
for Kirk Cousins. You know, we've got salary cap room
(10:47):
for this year next year, and Kirk Cousins a good
mentor in the room. With Will Howard and Mason and
Rudolph being there too.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's so crazy. I mean, I don't look at that
as crazy. Thank you, Rom. I think you like the
potential with Aaron Rodgers. It just I can't go year
to year. I have to plan accordingly, and I think
that would be one of the big drawbacks with Aaron.
Hey is he I was told he wants to played.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Two more years. Whether that's true or not. Two more years.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Okay, but it feels like he would be a Let's
reassess this after one year and then what happens in
the off season and then where is he?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Do you want to come back? You're not sure you
want to come back? Okay? We got the draft coming up.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Just feels a little too fluid for me. I needed
to be a little more structured. I need to have
some answers there. Chris and Syracuse, good morning, Chris Hey.
Speaker 13 (11:47):
Thank you very much forget me and Dan Hey, I
wanted to comment. I heard the Albert Breer interview, and
just a comment on Bill Balichick. You know a lot
of people are saying that they shouldn't be asking impersonal
questions interviews about the book, and for Belichick, obviously it
is about the book, but not for a person interviewing him.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Dan.
Speaker 13 (12:04):
Just like when you do interviews someone who's pitching a
product or a book or whatever, the sole purpose of
you interview and it is not to push that product.
You owe your audience to ask some probing questions. And
I really think Bill and his girlfriend had to realize
that going into that interview.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I was surprised because usually what happens. PR people will
do this, They will play the role of host. These
are the questions you're going to be asked. How are
we going to answer it? I mean, if not, then
you I don't know what you're doing with a PR person.
But that person is Bill's girlfriend, and if she's there
(12:42):
analyzing every question that's asked, I either tell her you
come on camera or leave the room, because the latest
report is she interrupted the interview and even delayed thirty
minutes apparently stormed out of the room. Okay, let's set
(13:06):
some ground rules here. I'm going to come down and
interview you. This is what I want. I don't want
to be surprised when I get there. I don't want
this to be Hey, she's deciding what questions you're going
to ask. I'd be like, no, no, no, no, that's
not how it's going to work. I've had people that
I've asked to leave the room when I've done an
interview because one person tried to coach somebody during the
(13:30):
interview by mouthing words or giving signals like don't answer
that question. And I had to ask the person I
stopped the interview.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
It was taped.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I said, I have to ask you to leave. I
can't do my job here. And they didn't want to leave.
The person I'm interviewing didn't want them to leave, but
I said, then we don't do the interview because it
was very disconcerting.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I'm asking a question.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Person I'm interviewing is looking over at the person who's
off to the side as if to say can I uh?
And then they would answer question and go what are
we doing here? We're better than this, aren't we. Let
me see Ryan in Wisconsin, Hi Ryan, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 11 (14:17):
Hey? Dan, thanks for taking the call. I had a
couple of bests from the past weekend. At the draft.
I thought that that Green Bay did a wonderful job.
It was awesome. Atmosphere is amazing. But the main reason
is I'm calling for my son was the one that
won the Jordan Love autograph football.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Oh nice. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (14:36):
I wanted to call him and thank you for that.
He was. It was an amazing experience for him and
that's all he could talk about for the rest of
the weekend.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
So good.
Speaker 11 (14:45):
I want to call him and say thank you.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Thank you. Ryan.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yeah, we gave away a Jordan Love. Great autograph. By
the way, Jordan Love, he's got the heart on there
and he's number ten. But yeah, we gave a Jordan
Love football away. And uh, that was on Friday. Let's
take a break here. We're gonna play an NBA version
of In or Out. That'll be coming up next here

Speaker 2 (16:20):
I just received some rookie prop bets by DraftKings cam
Ward over under twenty passing yards touchdowns, twenty passing touchdowns,
Travis Hunter over seven hundred receiving yards, Travis Hunter over
(16:40):
two interceptions, Ashton Genty over under eleven hundred rushing yards,
Abdul Carter over under eight sacks. And I got the
odds for who's going to be the number one pick
next year? Arch Manning is right now the odds on
(17:04):
favorite the Penn State quarterback Drew Alar.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
He's right there. It's plus two.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Hundred for arch It's plus two twenty five for Drew Alr.
Garrett Nussmeyer is also in there. Garrett Nussmyer is he
lsu Yeah?
Speaker 6 (17:25):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Caid Klubnick, who's been in college for about six.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Years, doctor Klubnick at Clemson.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
And TJ. Parker. I don't know TJ. Parker. Does anybody
know TJ. Parker?
Speaker 2 (17:43):
He's got the fifth best odds right now to be
the number one overall pick.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
TJ.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
Parker, Yes, Clemson defensive end.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Oh okay? All right?
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Time to play in or out? Do we have some
theme music to play in or out? Marvin Man There.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
We go, recap the rules.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
You're either in or out.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
The NFL should give the Jaguars a few extra National TV.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Games Todd in Seatan, did you know the question? Todd?
Speaker 5 (18:23):
Yes, because with Travis Hunter people might want to see
more Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
We surprised you right away, okay, Setan, I'll say out.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
I feel like I'll go find.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Them all right, Marvin out? Just one early, Yeah, I'd
give them one. Yeah, I don't want to have a
few of them be stockpiled there. I'd say one, here's
an in or out, and I'd like your reason why afterwards.
I would like to have Draymond Green as a teammate. Uh,
(18:58):
Todd out, see out, Marvin, and I really have to
know this situation. You're a great shooter. So I'm Steph Curry. Yeah, okay,
and it's right.
Speaker 7 (19:15):
I think he's important to Steph Curry.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
He is if I okay, if I'm Steph Curry and
the Golden State Warriors, Yes right now, yes, yes, Paul at.
Speaker 7 (19:27):
Every star needs an enforcer, a person who doesn't need shots. True,
and it's worked out ninety percent of the time with
the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Yes, yes, yeah, yes, here we go. All right.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
The NBA should change the All Star Game to USA
versus international players going forward, Marvin.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Oh, it's an awful idea.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Awful, It's terrible.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
There's not enough great international players that are All Star level.
Josh Giddy is gonna make the All Star team. Rudy
Gobert is gonna be an a time All Star. If
that's the.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Case, Okay, but look out, Look what else I get there?
What I get?
Speaker 2 (20:12):
I get Shay Gilgess, I get Luca, I get Joker,
I get Yannis al Horford. Yeah, why let's go. My
starting five is gonna be better than your starting five.
Speaker 9 (20:27):
But when it's time to get the bench guys in,
they're gonna molly at the International I'm.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Gonna have JJ Reddick as the coach, and nobody gets
to play. There's no reserves coming in.
Speaker 10 (20:37):
You could put together a hell of a team with
just the international guys. Yes, yes, Luca Joel Embiid. Yeah,
I means still, I mean these Kyrie could go that
way if you want.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Oh, that's true.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, I think my starting five, you're gonna you're gonna
have problems dealing with that. And I might tell them, guys,
we really want to win. So you're gonna you're gonna play.
You're gonna play a lot more, we're gonna win this game,
I'd be interested at that.
Speaker 7 (21:07):
Yes, do we get Canada? Yeah, so it would be
Canada Latin America. Yeah, would be with the USA. No,
no oh. So it's that's why I suggest what about.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Why would Canada be part of USA? Are you doing
North America?
Speaker 7 (21:21):
I was thinking about it.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Well, they're the fifty.
Speaker 15 (21:23):
First state, so we do sort of assume that, like
everything on this side, it's kind of ours. I mean,
Canada help us when you're looking at Canada is not
gonna be with us.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
We don't need it.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Marvin just said the United States doesn't need Canada with
their basketball talent. I'm saying the rest of the world
would gladly take s g A Yes, Mark, But.
Speaker 9 (21:44):
What I'm saying is you're taking away All Star spots
from guys that have had All Star seasons, like I said,
and the Josh Giddy and Bdanovich is gonna make a star.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Why are you picking those guys because.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
You have to fill out the roster international guys.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
I know, but you didn't go like Bowl Bowl. You
went Josh Giddy.
Speaker 9 (22:03):
Well, Josh Gitty is more likely to make the All
Star team in Bowl Bowl.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I know, and he's actually a pretty good player.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
Yeah, he's not an All Star player.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Though, Josh correct, he's a good player. He's a good player.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
That's the only reason I was saying, all right, you
forgot Wemby too.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
See if you're not, we're gonna.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Bring that on us. I mean, wait, you're gonna deal
with that front line.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
Come on, the Americans are going to get busy.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
International apple Pie for me.
Speaker 10 (22:43):
Technically, if you're calling it the Americans, that could I'd
get a scrutop and Marvin for apple Pie.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I think that'd be awesome.
Speaker 10 (22:55):
Okay, Jason Tatum, don't scare nobody on that other side.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
No, is there a more disrespected player in the NBA.
It feels like the Jason Tatum that we don't let
him into the special club. He's not in with Joker
and Jannis and you know those guys who got their title.
He's got seventy playoff wins already. You're not even twenty seven.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Yes, mar He also said the bention the Olympics also.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Well, but his numbers are great. He plays on a
great team. They play in the Eastern Conference or the
NBA Finals every year.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
He's never finished top three for MVP.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
But it, man, it feels like he gets disrespected. Now
they are trying to get like commercials for him, and
you know, they trying to make him a little bit
more than what he is. I just think he's one
of those guys who're just a great player but doesn't
have any buzz about him.
Speaker 7 (23:53):
Yeah, pulling, But those commercials don't have a little kid
at a store going, Hey there's Jason Tatum from the
Celtics where they have to announce the person's name. He's
not there. He's more famous than that.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Hey there's Jalen Brown. No Jason Tatum. Oh I get
you guys mixed up all the time.
Speaker 9 (24:10):
Yes, sorry, But going back to the All Star rosters,
there were twenty five All Stars. Ten of the thirteen
from the East, we're American. Eight from the thirteen on
the West, we're American. So the majority of All Star
level players are Americans.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
They're gonna killed the international.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Team kill like like Miami Heat get killed.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
Oh, no, one's getting No, one's going to be not
that long.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I mean, look at them, look at who I put
out there with my starting five.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
Yeah, but also, are they gonna take it serious?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Well, I think the European team will take it very seriously.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
Because I think it's there's a difference between playing for
the international team and playing for your actual country.
Speaker 16 (24:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
We saw that with the Olympics, right, how important even
a bronze medal was to Joker?
Speaker 6 (25:04):
Correct, So this isn't the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
It's bigger. It just means more, Yes, it just means more. Yes,
time will.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
There'd be a Ryder Cup type passion if they turn
the All Star Game to that, and do we really
need that?
Speaker 15 (25:18):
Right?
Speaker 5 (25:18):
It gets really heated supposed that with the Ryder Cup
there's a little golf trash talk whatever that might be.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Well, they're not hitting each other with clubs better.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
I'm with Marvin.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
I think besides the Ross, I don't know if you
need USA versus the World in the All Star Game.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
I'd like the East versus West, regardless of what country
you come to.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Game is terrible.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
And then just not have the All Star Game instead
of keep finding ways to.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Try to have an All Star break.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
There's a lot of money the NBA makes, and you
guys get to make appearances and you get to, you know,
go to Vegas and have fun.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
I just think it'd be.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
It'd be great, it'd be great, it'd be different, it'd
be different, and I'm willing to try that.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
What else do we have in around?
Speaker 6 (25:59):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (25:59):
Weirdly, I'm rooting for the Colorado Rockies to have the
most losses in Major League Baseball history. They are four
and twenty four. They're on pace to have fewer than
forty wins this season, which would be the modern day record.
When I say modern day, I mean like nineteen hundred.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
On well, I rooted for the White Sox too. If
you're going to be the worst, or attempt to be
the worst, then be the worst. I remember Freddy Carter
who played for the seventy six ers and they won
nine games, and I remember asking if he was rooting
for a team to break the record and have eight wins.
(26:37):
He goes, No, he goes, then people are going to
forget about us. He'd rather be remembered for having been
on a nine win team than somebody else who's going
to come in and take your record. What else do
we have in rout.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
And the last one? In three years, Bill Belichick will
be both single and unemployed, not wishing, just posing.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Well, I love love, I think he'll be.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Married and in the No, no, no, I don't think
he's going to be married. Okay, what's more likely? He
could be married? Or in the college football playoffs in
three years at all?
Speaker 6 (27:21):
Question?
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Right, Todd, I'm gonna say college football playoff?
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Okay, Seaton.
Speaker 10 (27:27):
It's interesting. I have a note here on my wall
of post it notes. Dang, I didn't write down the date.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Why do I do that?
Speaker 10 (27:34):
I'm the worst at this, But it says eleven fifty
Bill Belichick marriage. So we've talked about Bill recently enough
that I took a note of it. Is the question
married or in the college football playoff? Of course, I
think he's going to be in the playoff. I'm taking that,
all right, Marv.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
College football playoff?
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Yeah, I guess if I had to choose, I would
say that. I don't think he's going to get married.
Speaker 10 (27:59):
Shouldn't marry your employees anyway?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Isn't there a policy some networks let you date, you
know you shouldn't do that?
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Is that it?
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Paul, I'm going married? I want to go counter.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Okay, you think he's going to be married? Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 11 (28:20):
Damn.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
You see him with a tuxedo walking down the aisle. Yeah, yes, she.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Gonna basically tell him we're getting married. So you're gonna say,
I do, this is the date, and this is how
it's gonna work. I'm your publicist, last fiance. This is
what we're doing.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Thank you, Todd uh Ippy. I think that's how it's
spelled here on the screen. Ippy in Iowa, you are
correct and it is Hippy.
Speaker 17 (28:47):
And I need some clarification with the Pete Rose thing. Okay,
it was always my understanding that he was banned from baseball,
meaning that he could never work for MLB or have
anything to do with MLB. Yes, there's no tie to
MLB and the Hall of Fame. True, so Manfrick can
go and say, hey, yeah, we're listening to the band
for MLB. Still doesn't mean if he gets his at
(29:08):
all fame, So there needs to be a little bit
of discussion with that.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Well, I think if we get to that point, the
Hall of Fame will acquiesce to whatever Major League Baseball
asked them to do, and the commission So the Commissioner
is involved, but you have the President of the United
States involved in this. He's not going to just go, hey,
Pete should be in the Hall of Fame and then
let it go. I think he's going to see this
(29:37):
through as far as he can, and maybe you're going
to be able to get him reinstated, so he's on
the ballot. But I think there's other things at play
here with the president and the Commissioner of Baseball. Eric
and Tucson. Hi, Eric, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Good morning?
Speaker 16 (29:56):
Dan? Hey kind of tag it on to the previous
caller just in regards to Pete Rose. And I know
how I'm gonna sound before I say this, so give
me a little bit of leeway on it. But do
the rules not matter? I mean, there's there's one rule.
I'm just hold on seat and hold on, man, hold on,
hold on, hold on. Just hear me out, hear me out. Wow,
(30:18):
there's one sign in Major League Baseball that's a.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
We just lost him. We just lost him.
Speaker 10 (30:28):
Say he just he asked for a little leeway, So
that's immediately my cue to jump down down his throat,
Come on you.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
It was like it was the wind up and then
we didn't get the pitch. And that's why I meant that. Yes,
there is a sign on every locker room major League
Baseball about gambling, but at some point you might say,
has he paid the price? It feels like no matter
(30:57):
what you do in life, there there's a price you pay.
And then after you've paid your price, your debt to society,
then we allow you. We love a comeback story. Pete
paid a price, Pete's not around. You do it posthumously.
I think it's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
I agree. I understand gambling.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
And was Pete betting against his team for his team,
it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
He was still gambling. Don in San Antonio, Hi, Don.
Speaker 18 (31:30):
Good morning Dan. How you guys do. I'm great to
hear you and to talk to you.
Speaker 6 (31:34):
Great.
Speaker 18 (31:34):
So you were talking about quinn yours a little while ago.
He is revered up with that forty acres in Austin, Texas,
and he decided on his own, according to the San
Antonio Express News, that he didn't want to turn us
the image that he had developed in the University of
Texas and take an nil deal at Oregon or any
(31:56):
other place. And he was quite comfortable with under in
the NFL draft, not knowing how high he would be
selected because he's been injured all year, and Tarcasian kept
on playing him and the only controversy at all was
some sports riders and a lot of fans talk why
is an arch Manning playing more? But Quinn Yours, from
all accounts, is one of the finest young men at
(32:18):
university has ever had playing for him. So I just
thought to you and your audience ought to know.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Don Although if I asked Quinn yours today and you
could do it all over again, knowing what you know,
you're going to go in the seventh round, because he
might have said, Hey, I'm going to roll the dice.
Maybe I go in the second or third round. Well,
you went in the seventh round. Would you have decided
to maybe take that money from Oregon or Notre Dame?
(32:44):
Uh Miles in Waco, Hi Miles, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (32:50):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (32:50):
DP bank for taking the call.
Speaker 19 (32:53):
I want to bring it back to the Bill Belichick discussion,
and the question I have for you is what is
the the most shocking interaction that you've had in an interview,
Whether it be something they said they did, just something
that really casts you off guard that you weren't prepared for.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
I don't think there's anything I've been unprepared for. The
only shocking part and it wasn't part of the interview,
but it was in in the context of an interview
when I talked to Oj Simpson and I was just
talking to him about football, and then when we stopped
(33:32):
and my cameraman changed tapes, that's when it came up
where he asked me if I thought he did it. Now,
during the downtime of getting a tape put in the
camera and taking one out, we were just talking and
he was telling me how crazy his life was, and
he goes, you have no idea how crazy my life is.
(33:54):
And I mean, I didn't say anything he wanted. He
wanted to tell me that he did not murder his
ex wife. He wanted that conversation and I was not
going to give that to him. But he kept saying.
He goes, you know, I'll walk by a hotel room
in Vegas and they're shooting a porn and then they go,
(34:16):
come on in, do you want to be part of
a porn And.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
He goes, that's how crazy my life is.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
I'm thinking, okay, and I'm not answering him because I
just don't want to engage with him. I don't want
to give him a platform here. I made a mistake
of doing the interview and just talking football with OJ.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
That's on me.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
I take it and I have to eat it. But
then he says to me, do you think I did it?
Camera's not rolling? Do you think I did it? And
I said what did what? Because I wanted him to
say that murder those two people? And then I said yes,
so if you want to say shocking or awkward, yes,
(35:01):
But it wasn't part of the interview. But it was
one of those moments where I'm like, I don't think
he can kill me. I actually did think that. I'm like,
what's the worst thing that could happen? He might say, well,
I'm not going to do the rest of the interview,
which okay, at that point, I'm already made a mistake
of just talking to him about football. But he brought
(35:22):
it up and I gave him an answer.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Time.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
Was that eerie or odd or insensitive that he referred
to him as those two people he can't even say
the name of his ex wife and mother of children are.
Speaker 12 (35:33):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
I think there were a lot of other things to
nitpick OJ on that he didn't say it was his
ex wife, The fact that he did it, my camera
guy was on a shoot with OJ in Mexico. They
were shooting a TV show and he had a Navy
seal knife and my cameraman so my cameraman says to me, hey,
(35:57):
when he comes in, I'm not shaking his hand, and
I said, I won't put you in that situation because
they were in Mexico with OJ, and OJ had this
Navy seal knife that he was in love with. Like
they it was something that they just fixated on. The
sound guy in the camera guy, and they were like,
(36:18):
you know, we were with this guy.
Speaker 6 (36:20):
Now.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I don't know if there's any correlation there. I just
know that they were what they saw and felt in Mexico.
Was still with them, but yeah, and OJ came in.
He wasn't as imposing, like he was kind of hunched over,
not intimidating at all, but you know, he still came
(36:41):
in as OJ.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
He's like, you know, hey, you know, thanks for having me.
I should see what I could do with that thing.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Adp oh Man, All right, let me take a break.
Last call for phone calls this day in sports history,
what we learned, what's in store tomorrow After this.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Order to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show.
Weekdays at nine am Eastern, six am Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Last call for phone calls, What we learned, What's in
store tomorrow? This Day in Sports History, Here's something for you.
I mentioned Jason Tatum before. He's got seventy playoff wins.
He's won of seven players to reach this mark by
the age of twenty seven. Magic Kobe, Tony Parker, Jaylen Brown,
Kawhi Leonard and Lebron James Woo.
Speaker 11 (37:33):
Stall of a day, Stall of a day, Start of
a day, scant outa day.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
This is the stule of the day. Rock to you by.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Panini, the official trading cards of the program. This Day
in Sports History, Paul got a couple for you. The
nineteen forty one, the Boston Bees agreed to change their
name to the Braves. In nineteen sixty one, ABC's Wide
World World of Sports premiered. Nineteen eighty five, Billy Martin
was brought back for the fourth time as manager of
the New York Yankees.
Speaker 7 (38:08):
And how about this. Nineteen eighty eight, the Baltimore Orioles
set the new major League record by losing their first
twenty one games of the season.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Ouch I was there covering when Billy Martin came back
nineteen eighty five, and you know, I didn't I'd never
been to New York. I didn't grow up a New
York sports fan. And I lied to my bosses when
they said, you know, have you been to New York?
And I said, yes, of course. And then I went
up there and became the sports reporter at CNN, and
(38:38):
I remember going out to Yankee Stadium and you know,
back then you had the big time columnists there, and
you know, you're a talking hairdoo. You're trying to get interviews.
They have a lot of intimidating people there in New York.
And yeah, I mean it was great because you get
your butt kicked and then it'll toughen you up a
little bit. But I remember being around Billy Martin and
(39:03):
you just never knew what you were going to get.
It was fascinating. But one time I smelled alcohol in
his breath and you're like this before a game. Maybe
this is what it takes to be a manager. With
George Steinbrenner, Eric and Tucson. Eric is back. Eric made
(39:24):
it back.
Speaker 16 (39:24):
Hi, Eric, I am hope, Hey morning, Thanks Dan, appreciate
you giving me back on and I'm hoping I got
hung off by Marvin because that would be a personal accomplishment.
But what I was trying to say is that at
some point there's a sign in every major league locker room.
I don't really care if the guy goes in the
Hall of Fame or not, one way or the other,
(39:45):
but that sign is very clear, it's very direct. It
speaks to probably the worst situation that major League Baseball
went through in the late nineteen hundreds, I'm sorry, the
mid nineteen nineteen nineteen twenty time frame with the Black Sox.
And if you're not going to hold people accountable to that,
then what's the point of even having it, Especially in
(40:06):
today's age with gambling everywhere, How are you going to
hold anyone accountable going forward? If you just give him
a certain period of time and then whatever that thing
that you would hope would keep them from committeing this act,
gambling as a punishment would keep them as a return
from doing it. But then you let that go, that
(40:27):
deterrence is gone.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Oh, I know I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Would I put him on the ballot, I wouldn't, but
I'm not running baseball If it's a permanent ban, that's
the difference. If it's a lifetime ban, then he would
you could bring him back and put him on the
ballot because it's in his lifetime. Permanent is permanent. That's
where you have to change the language as you move forward.
(40:52):
If you want to punish people, but for how long
do you punish them? All right, let's go around the room.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
By the way.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
On this date in nineteen eighty six, Bo Jackson was
the first pick of the NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
both of course playing baseball, and then went to the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Todd would you learn today.
Speaker 4 (41:13):
You thought the forty nine ers would work on a
deal with their QB brock perty before tight end?
Speaker 3 (41:16):
George Kittle seatan would you learn today? USA v? International?
Is a hot topic around here. Hey, I'm ready to go.
Sign me up, Marvin, you.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
Think Rudy Gobert is the most overrated player in the NBA?
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Paul, George Kittle got paid, Todd Wood and I learn.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
The Pacers can score. They're dangerous. Do not sleep on Indiana.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Have a great day, everybody. Thanks for joining us. Our
pleasure to serve you. For Fritzie Seaton Marv Paula yours truly,
We'll talk to you tomorrow
