Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hour on this Thursday, Dan and the Dan Nets Dan
Patrick Show. Baseball later today and tonight Phillies at the Dodgers,
and that will be three o'clock local in Los Angeles.
Then it's the Brewers and the Cubs. You have Thursday
night football, Eagles in the Giants. We did reach out
to Major League Baseball. I'm still not sure why the
Phillies and Dodgers are the first game, since it's in

(00:27):
Los Angeles. Brewers at the Cubs is the nightcap. If
you're trying to stagger the Stars and not compete with
the Eagles and the Giants, you're going to compete with them.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
But I would have thought.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Brewers Cubs, and then you have Eagles Giants, and then
you would have the Phillies at the Dodgers. But Phillies
bats came to life last night at the expense of
Clayton Kershaw and Kyle Schwarber hit two bombs last night,
and Brewers will be at the Cubs. The Blue Jays
close out the Yankees, and this is how it sounded.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
One two swinging in them and strike three, screaming fucks
from Hoffman.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
The Blue Jays are.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Back in the ALCS for the first time since twenty sixteen.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
They down the Yankees in their own yard, and they're.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
The first team in Baseball's Final Four.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
All right, that's blue Jays, Radio Network, Tigers and the Mariners.
They're tied at two games a piece. But you have
the Eagles favored by seven on the road against the Giants.
We started the show, we talked a lot about the
Bill Belichick situation in North Carolina, and there's a lot
of different reports. Now it's not just rumor innuendo. These

(01:45):
are reports talking about real dissension. The locker room seems fractured.
You just you have a lot of discussion around this.
Is there an exit strategy That term came up yesterday.
Its strategy or plan for Bill Belichick? What would it
cost to get rid of Bill Belichick? Does Belichick want

(02:06):
to be fired so he gets paid?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
You know?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Could there be a settlement there that there was a
report that he might not even last until I think
they play col this weekend or their next game, and
that he might not be coaching in that game. So
you know, these reports and I guess there is speculation.
Not all of it is reporting, but there's a lot
of speculation here on how long is Bill going to

(02:31):
last there In North Carolina. You've got parents who've talked
about the lack of a relationship there, and once again,
I don't know if I have anything to compare it to.
I don't know if any parent ever said Saban doesn't
say anything to us at Alabama. But with Bill Belichick,
he's not missedter conversation here. I don't know what you

(02:52):
were hoping for. He didn't communicate with his Patriot players,
let alone the North Carolina kids. But when you bring
in seventy players, so it's not all transfers, you have
whatever thirty freshmen that maybe came in, so maybe forty
are coming in from another program. These are still players
that Bill brought in. It's not like he said, boy,

(03:14):
I inherited this roster, like when Dion went to Colorado
that first year. Now, he did get to bring in
his son and Travis Hunter, but he did inherit some players,
and he basically said, hey, pack because I'm bringing in
my guys. Bill brought in his guys. So you can't
use that as an excuse that mac Brown didn't leave

(03:35):
me anything. Bill's got to decide if he wants to
be Bill Belichick because and while that sounds strange, I
just don't know, Like at some point the lamp goes out,
you know, the candle is blown out here, and I
don't know what his priorities are because it doesn't feel

(03:56):
like it's football the way it once was. It felt
like that's all Bill cared about. It New England, that's
it didn't have a life. This is all he cared about,
and you know, couldn't wait to solve problems whatever it was, offense, defense,
special teams. He was able to get rid of the clutter.

(04:16):
And I never thought that I would use the word
messy attached to a Bill Belichick team, But this situation
is messy. Whether it's fact or fiction, it's still messy.
And then you have the athletic department in Belichick and
you put out statements at the same time, we're behind
you and I'm all in, and you know, okay, you're

(04:39):
five games in you're putting out statements. I mean that's
putting out fires.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Yeahpauling just to play devil's advocate.

Speaker 7 (04:46):
If you're a supporter or you work for North Carolina
you've never been great at football. You've had a couple
of years where you won ten games, like every two
or every generation or you in that. Don't you want
to be patient with one of the great up all
minds of all time and let it play out to
maybe get to a special place before you rip it
all apart again.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Well, they do have two wins, but those are impressive wins.
The losses have been embarrassing. You lose the fan base.
That's what makes you, know, owners and athletic departments really
nervous when the local fans don't show up or they
don't stick. Remember that big unveiling, the Big Game on
ESPN to start the season. You got all the luminaries there.

(05:29):
You got Lawrence Taylor and Michael Jordan and Mia Hamm
and then they had everything but a competitive football team there.
I understand what you're saying, but Bill is what's seventy three?

Speaker 8 (05:43):
Like?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Your patience is not going to be as long as
it would normally be. But you also want to see positives.
That's the one thing that would make me nervous is
what are the positives we've seen? What are the oh wow,
we got somebody there, we got something there. Boy, that's
second's good. We only got a good offensive line, we
found our quarterback. None of those things are applicable here.

(06:06):
That would be the big concern. And does Bill want
to stay and do this because now that you've done it,
now that you're there, and they were the thirty third team.
Remember they were the NFL's thirty third team. They they
were the ones that tell you that Bill and Mike Lombardi, hey,
we'll be the thirty third team. Players are going to

(06:27):
come here. So they know that they're going to be,
you know, in the fast lane and they're going.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
To the NFL.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Well that that is not the case. I don't know
how long you wait before you say, okay, this is
this was the right move, or we got to move
on from this. But I think we're closer to the
latter than the former of moving on from this, because
I don't Bill is not all of a sudden going
to be you know, cheery and come on in, and

(06:57):
you know, Pete Carroll like he's just not that.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
And I think.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
College really, in today's atmosphere, I think you have to
have that young guys, energetic guys, and that's not Bill.
When you win, I don't. You can have any kind
of personality you want. Greg Popovich could have that personality
because he won. When you lose, you can't. Bill had
that personality because he won, and then when he didn't,

(07:24):
then all of a sudden, we go what that guy
man got no personality?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Who would want to play for him?

Speaker 2 (07:30):
And you would go there because you knew you were
going to be playing in playoff games. You were you're
going to be playing in Super Bowls. You had a
chance for history. North Carolina. You're not playing for anything
anytime soon, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 9 (07:45):
Yeah, I just felt bad. It just felt like after
the Falcons fiasco where he didn't get the job there,
you know what, I guess I'll settle for North Carolina.
It felt like he was settling for a coaching job
just for the sake of coaching. It's not like he
went to a top tier program. He went to a
second rate program that's really a basketball school. It's like,
you know what, I guess I'll be here.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah, yeah, but he wanted to be. He got paid
ten million dollars. I'm going with you know, I really
like coaching. I'm going to coach lacrosse. You know, No,
he went and you're paying him, and he's one of
the top paid coaches in America. There should be results,
immediate results from him.

Speaker 7 (08:23):
Yeah, Pauline, I know it's twenty five years ago, but
when Bill Belichick started in New England, his first year,
they were five and eleven and the reviewers are not great.
They won three of the next four Super Bowls, and
they were somewhat patient. Everyone gets a second year back then.
But if you go back to Belichick when he coached
the Cleveland Browns, he got them to eleven and five,
and next year they went five and eleven and they

(08:44):
bailed on him.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
I wonder if they would want to do over. I
don't know.

Speaker 7 (08:47):
I think maybe, when you're in North Carolina have done
light work in the past ten years of success, why
not wait another year and let it play out and
see what this guy can do.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Well, that's what I thought. He would last one more year,
But I don't even know if he lasts this year.
I thought maybe he would find out after two years,
maybe you know this isn't right for me, or they're
going to find out he's not the right guy.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (09:11):
See, I mean North Carolina should learn from the Jets.
Who should have been more patient with him. Maybe the
Jets should have given him a little bit more time.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Yeah, have to.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Figure that out.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Sunday night, It'll be Jared goffrom the Lions and Patrick
Mahomes and the Chiefs at Arrowhead Sunday seven Eastern on
NBC and Peacock Steven in Buffalo, Hi Steve, what's on
your mind today?

Speaker 10 (09:41):
Hey, good morning, fella's happy Thursday. I guess for mister
see since he is the authority on football and sports
stadium music. One of your callers mentioned the custom songs.
The Buffalo Bills have the shoutfall that came out in
the nineties, and that's part of that my entire life,
the entire fan base, everybody knows it. We shout it

(10:04):
out at airports and get the a's to see where
we are and come out of the woodwork. It is
the Buffalo Bill's song.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
All right, thank you. Steven William in Virginia, Hi William.

Speaker 8 (10:17):
Good morning. But true sixty five and this thing, this
thin's me to say this because I'm a Cowboys fan
from Eddie le Baron all the way up.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Wow.

Speaker 8 (10:28):
The Redskins, the Redskins, they had the classic song. They
even had the band dressed up and garbed and it
was hailed to the Redskins. And as a Cowboys fan,
it was like salt in. It was bad.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
All right, thank you goes back to Eddie le Baron.
I think Eddie LeBaron was five feet seven. He was
the quarterback Dustin in Alabama.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Hi Dustin.

Speaker 11 (10:55):
Who that rolls a yeah on iconic Stadion songs? In
a quick Spencer Rattler update, after starting h to ten
as the Saints' first drafted quarterback to win a game
since ninety eight, he is now conquered that Hill won
his first game last week. However, if you've ever been

(11:15):
into it, the Saints game the New Orleans super Dome,
last time I was there for a big, big game
was in like twenty twelve. Drew Brees versus Doh was
his name? So Aaron Rodgers. But the iconic song by
the Duetic the duo poetic stylings of Ying Yang Twins

(11:39):
stand up and get kronk. Marv might know about that one.
There is no better song in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
All right, well, thank you, thank you, justin Yeah, been
a long time since they've had a really big big
game there in New Orleans.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Are you aware of Let's get kronk there, Marvin.

Speaker 9 (11:57):
I'm aware of the Ying Yang Twins, the legendary duo,
but I am not aware of that song how to
go to many Saints games?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Dave in Arkansas, Hi, Dave.

Speaker 12 (12:08):
They call me Pittsburgh Dave, And you want stadium songs,
I'm sorry. We have the gold standard Stixon renegade. There
is nothing like the end of the third quarter and
that screen comes on and seventy thousand stools fans go wild.

(12:29):
There is nothing better than that.

Speaker 10 (12:32):
I don't care what anybody else says.

Speaker 12 (12:34):
We've got it. We're taking the we're taking the award home,
and the rest of you can shut up.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
All right, that's Pittsburgh Dave. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (12:43):
See, not a lot of people fighting for that one.
You guys, go ahead?

Speaker 3 (12:47):
What's all you? Yes? You got ahead? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (12:49):
Smart, I'm already smart. I'm already disagreeing. Because House of
Pain jump around in Madison, Wisconsin is on TV. I've
never even been there, but on TV it's like there's
nothing that Top State.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Didn't they have part of their stands that collapsed one time,
like a Saturday afternoon game with everybody jumping around yes, paul.

Speaker 7 (13:11):
I was there one time for Wisconsin Nebraska, and you
know it's coming and you know the stands are gonna
It feels like a planned earthquake when you're standing there
exactly still saying.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
When the Bulls were doing the starting lineup and you
heard that music the Alan Parsons Project, that's that's iconic
because see you know that that that great, something great
was going to happen, or the potential for something great
was going to happen because it was Mike and the Bulls,
And when you heard that, it's like, uh oh, we're

(13:42):
in trouble, yeah, Pauli.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
The band Sticks Renegade is popular at Steelers games, no
connection to the Steelers in any way. They would play
that song occasionally after defensive highlights. In a two thousand
and two playoff game against the Browns, the Steelers played
Renegade Run. They were down twenty four to seven. They
won the game, and some people said, we got to
start playing that there.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
It is.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
Okay, yes, And if you remember a couple months back,
I wanted to make a new rule that you were
only allowed to use bands from your area. So really,
Chicago should be has the rights to Sticks Pittsburgh really
shouldn't be using them. As far as i'mware, I don't
think of Sticks. I don't know what their origins would

(14:24):
be with Pittsburgh. I think of them as a Chicago band.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Yes, okay, yes, Paul.

Speaker 7 (14:31):
Yeah, there absolutely Sticks a south side Chicago band. I
wonder if there was a trade made. Is there a
Pittsburgh band that traded a song to be named later
with the Bear?

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Well with somebody a Steeler fan in the band Sticks?
Was Tommy Shaw a Steeler fan?

Speaker 5 (14:46):
I'm finding no connection whatsoever Pittsburgh.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
If you want just want rusted Root, go ahead, you
guys could do away.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
That's a straight up trade.

Speaker 6 (14:56):
Go ahead, you guys want to take that, you go
right ahead, my way.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
How about who is it Donnie Ira? Was that? Was
that the artist Donnie Iris? Did he do.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Checking?

Speaker 2 (15:13):
He didn't do eight six seven five three oh nine?

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Did he was?

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Tommy two tone?

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Is it Tommy two tone?

Speaker 13 (15:20):
Was there?

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Is there an artist from Pittsburgh named Donnie Iris? Does
that sound right?

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Donnie Iris? Just found him?

Speaker 3 (15:29):
And what was his song?

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Checking? I'm looking at it trying to find out he.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Had one song? He had one semi hit?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Maybe love is like a rock and Aliah.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Uh yeah, Aliyah, Yeah that I think that was his keep.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
Cut by you.

Speaker 6 (15:49):
Yeah, I dude from Back on the Streets nineteen eighty
Donnie Iris.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Always sleep find that all these shows.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
I think I had the album too. Yeah with Rick Springfield.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
Video is insane. Oh my god, yellow tuxedo. It kind
of looks like Howard Stern killing it.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
All right, let me take a break here.

Speaker 2 (16:11):

Speaker 10 (17:37):
Hey?

Speaker 14 (17:38):
Dan?

Speaker 8 (17:38):
How are you doing things straight?

Speaker 5 (17:39):
My calls?

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (17:40):
You know everyone at Hello, Sorry about that.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
You know.

Speaker 8 (17:45):
I'm a lifelong Dodger fan. I've had to get used
to analytics.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
It's gotten US two World series.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
I want to know what analysts said. It's a good
idea to run per shot out.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
There for the eighth. He did a great job in
the sevens, got.

Speaker 8 (17:59):
Us out of it. How do you run him back
out there?

Speaker 2 (18:04):
I think it's a fair question. I was surprised. I
hated to see it, you know, because I do.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I like him.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
He's been very nice to us coming on the show.
But still my job is to call it as I
see it. And you can't have feelings for Clayton Kershaw.
You can't say, oh, they shouldn't put him out there.
I'm sure he wants to be out there, or he
would not refuse to take the ball. I mean, that's
Clayton Kershaw. He wants to be out there. It's just

(18:38):
once again we get into postseason baseball and home runs follow.
But I would not have him as a reliever. I
would have him start a game, let him get prepared
for the game, and instead of trying to insert him in.
And I know you're trying to set up you know,
maybe you're pitching, you know, for today. I understand it.

(19:01):
I just he's just not the guy that's a reliever.
I just I'd rather he got to prepare for a
start and then see how he does instead of just
insert him, you know, like they did, and you get
four outs. I just thought one inning was enough. Yeah,

(19:22):
pulling does it.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Bother you guys?

Speaker 7 (19:24):
Now, we don't know baseball analytics. I clearly don't, but
when you see a starter getting pulled after two or
three or fewer innings in the in the postseason, it
feels like it's a completely different game than the regular season,
and the hooks are quick.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Well you've seen that with a couple of pitching staffs.
Because there is no tomorrow that they they almost overanalyze
the situation. But analytics makes no mistake about it. You know,
there's certain teams that are all in with analytics. And
if you heard the post game comments by Alex Rodriguez
and Derek Jeter, they're sort of calling out the front

(19:59):
office of the Yankees that Aaron Boone is not the
problem for the Yankees. It's the front office. And I'm
going to guess that's Brian Cashman and whoever else is
on that staff that they are all in on analytics.
It's basically, you give Aaron Boone your play sheet, like
this is what you do in this situation.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
You do this.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's almost as if they're trying to script what's going
to happen. And I thought Jeter and Aron they didn't
mince words. They're saying, he's not the problem. Analytics is
the problem. It works for some teams. It also works
when you have a big payroll. I don't know if
we look at the Reds and go, well, you got
to credit their analytics here, Now, that would be a

(20:43):
team where I'd go, oh okay if they relied on analytics,
or the Pirates or somebody like that, you know, Brewers.
But these other teams that have big payrolls, you know,
at some point you got to point to the players
as well and not you know, blame it on analytic analytics.
I can put you in a position. Now it's up

(21:03):
to you to do something with this situation. You're supposed
to be the right person for this situation. Zach and Knoxville. Hi, Zach,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 8 (21:14):
ADP?

Speaker 15 (21:15):
Thanks for taking my call, he said Bill Belichick. If
there was a problem that he would solve it is
that became Vanilla Ice? And in this fake scenario, would
Jordan Hudson be more Madonna or more should Knight?

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Thank you Zach giving it that much thought. I did
give this thought.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Is New York overrated as a sports citty? New York
has ten professional teams, so four major sports leagues, they
have combined for zero championships over the last ten years.
The one title that's been won by a New York
team was the Liberty in WNBA. I think we think

(21:57):
of New York and you think of Man, you can
do it there, you can do it anywhere given the coverage.
If I do the ratio of coverage to success, boy,
that's a big disappointment. But ten professional teams throughout the
four major sports leagues, and they have zero championships over

(22:18):
the last ten years.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Yes, Marvin, sorry, don't kill me.

Speaker 9 (22:22):
I think the Yankees twenty seven World Series titles, those
are overrated because back then there were only two teams
that made the postseason period and that was just the
World Series. If that was the case, the Dodgers will
probably have five World Series during his current run. They
would have lost to the Saint Louis Browns in the
Alds at one point. They wouldn't have won twenty seven

(22:45):
World Series titles.

Speaker 7 (22:48):
Yes, Paul, the Yankees no titles in sixteen years. Mets
oh for the last thirty nine New York Giants so
usually quality. They haven't won a title in twelve years.
That's not too bad. The Jets no playoff appearances in
sixteen seasons. Bill's good now, but haven't won it. If
you want to call them a New York team, not
a New York City team. The Knicks are over the

(23:08):
last fifty three I mean, the Nets have been better
in the past twenty five years as closer to the title.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
The Cubs have been to the playoffs less times than
the Yankees have World Series rings.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Yeah, but you do.

Speaker 6 (23:25):
That's even including the current right, But we're sort of
using the Yankees' failure this season as a jumping off point.
The Cubs don't even make it to the postseason. And
even in the modern era where some of these rings
that's not valid or whatever. The Cubs don't even make
it to the postseason. They had just as high a
payroll for a decade as the Yankees and couldn't even
make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Why are we picking on the Cubs.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
Because it's fun to poke Paul when he's trying to
poke New York City. New York City is sort of
the capital of culture, I think, really in some ways
in the in the country.

Speaker 14 (24:02):
Yes, Todd, I just got distracted because my scoreboard is wrong.
I gave Jalen Hurts number two and he's number one.
I just noticed that this second and had just really
upset me, and I got a social media knocord. What's
with the scoreboard and the ononder you have two and six?

Speaker 6 (24:17):
Jalen Hurts was one.

Speaker 14 (24:18):
It was about the two quarterbacks playing tonight, and I
don't like making mistakes, so it just threw me off.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
Oh yeah, that you updated that right now.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
That was very helpful.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Thank you for bursting into programming here to tell me
about your silly score bos.

Speaker 14 (24:31):
Who enjoyed the snoreboard It should say one instant actor
regularly scheduled the program already.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Thank you, Todd. But that is a big draught.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
If you look at sports cities, you know, ten professional
teams in four major sports leagues. You know you got
Rangers and Devil's in there as well, Islanders in there.
Mets bow out, Yankees bow out the Knicks at least
made a run this past year. Yeah, but yeah, I

(25:04):
could see the little shot there back.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
I'm going to throw the devils down.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
There, huh.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
I throw the New Jersey into the New York City
sports teams.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
But oh so you don't you don't want them.

Speaker 6 (25:18):
Well, they're called the New Jersey Devils.

Speaker 13 (25:21):
I know.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Well the Giants play in New Jersey.

Speaker 6 (25:23):
Yeah, they all do, but they're called the New York Jets,
the New York Giants. They should be the New Jersey
Jets and Giants, but they're not. You know, they should
be shout out to the Devils.

Speaker 16 (25:35):
Steve in Miami, Hi, Steve Hey, good morning Dan, First
time caller, longtime listener, A semi soft o zempic two
zero five.

Speaker 17 (25:50):
I just wanted to call, and what I got to
say is definitely not a hot take. But I think
with this whole North Carolina Belichick deal is I think
everybody should say the circus act that he brought to
town with this girl, and when things start going bad quick,
they tend to get worse even quicker. And he doesn't

(26:11):
look like his heart is into this job. And I
think the alumni and the fans and the boosters more
importantly are seeing that, and I think that's why they're
calling for his head on stick.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Yeah, but it happened quickly, though, you know, there were
rumblings and we've spoken to reporters covering this and they'll
be like, I don't know, I don't know, and then
you'd be like, well, but it's Belichick, We'll give you
the benefit of the doubt. I think having the girlfriend
there made it easier open season on Belichick because usually

(26:47):
with Belichick it's he'll figure it out.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
On the football field. But he hasn't.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
And therefore, and I think that she's being singled out
far more than she should be.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
This is on Bill.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Bill would never allow this to happen in New England, never,
and he should put an end to it. As far
as her involvement publicly, I think that would be beneficial
to him and the program, or at least the perception
of what is going on there who is running the program.
And you've got guys who are friends with Bill. And

(27:21):
I was told this a couple of weeks ago by
a source, that guys are friends with Bill, like you
keep your job, you're friends with Bill, you know, whether
that's the case at North Carolina. But you've had guys
on his staff that maybe shouldn't have been on his staff.
So I think there's a lot of finger pointing there

(27:43):
at Bill. It doesn't take away, you know. Fritzy I
think jokingly said this a couple of days ago is
Belichick coaching his way out of the Hall of Fame? Well,
it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He'll never
go into the college football Hall of Fame. So he's
not coaching his way. He's coaching his way out of
the concept of that's the greatest coach of all time.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
You know, he's not.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
He's you know, we're chipping away a little bit at
that statue, the foundation of that statue that, yes, in Cleveland,
may be a little more patience there what he did
in New England. You know, we can't deny that. That's irrefutable.
But here in North Carolina, and maybe people are waiting
for this as well. They were waiting for him to fail.

(28:28):
And this is the.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
We don't like the way you did it.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
We think your cheaters, whatever your bias is. But he
always figured it out on the football field. He hadn't
been able to do that.

Speaker 14 (28:42):
Yes, Tod, would Belichick's ego allow himself to go out
like that? Assuming he does have any kind of interest
in coaching again, and this ends very quickly at North Carolina?
Could that be? Could he live with that being the
last chapter of his coaching career?

Speaker 15 (28:54):
This?

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Yeah, but what's he what are the options.

Speaker 14 (28:57):
He still has to be hided by a decent go
something he'd be interested in doing. But I'm just wondering.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
You can't. No, he's not going to another college.

Speaker 14 (29:05):
No.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
I think he's finding out. And I'm shocked that Saban
couldn't get through to him to say, you don't want this, Bill,
knowing Bill's personality, you don't want this. If it was
enough to drive Sabin out of a great program that
was playing for national championships. Bill is not made for
this kind of environment. He's just not And maybe they

(29:29):
salvage something here, but he's his personality is not ready
for college football, least this new reincarnation of college football.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
Yeah, Paul, that's exactly right.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
It's the current state of college football is the opposite
of the NFL. NFL you have caps, you have schedules,
there's no portal, everything's under control. The players have zero
control in the NFL, and he joined the league that
college football, where the players are wagging the dog for
the near future.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yeah, and all of these great coaches are control freaks.
And then when you can't, you know, Saban couldn't control anymore.
When he could, he was dominating. Uh, you know, Dabo Sweeney,
when you controlled you know, you're playing for a national championship.
Now you can't control it. So that's what's changing. We've

(30:22):
seen this with you know, Jay Wright at Villanova he said,
you know, I'm done with this. Coach k probably got
out a year earlier. They just get to the point
where it's like, no, I don't I don't want to
do this anymore. This isn't the way I was brought
up in how to coach a team, recruit a team.
Now it's negotiations, constantly, constant. Larry in Arkansas, Hi.

Speaker 13 (30:46):
Larry, Hey Dan, how are you this morning?

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Great? Larry, Great?

Speaker 13 (30:53):
Gary, Hey, you have a question. We've talked about your
retirement coming up, and we.

Speaker 11 (30:59):
Talked about the day Nancy talked a little bit about
their future and maybe.

Speaker 13 (31:02):
What's going to go on. I'm a little bit curious,
but all the memorabilia you have, all that great stuff
you have, what's going on with them? What's the plan
for the memorabilia. I know you'll probably take some that
you know is very meaningful to you, but is it
going to be you know, auctioned off? Is it going
to be you know, donated? Just curious if you've had
any thoughts on that.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
I don't have any plans to close up the man Cave.
I don't know what's going to happen if there's another
show that's in here, but I'm going to keep the memorabile.
I'd love coming here on after work, in the afternoon
or on the weekends. And you know, it's just all

(31:45):
the stuff that I've collected for forty years. So I
don't know if I would sell anything. God, I keep everything.
I don't know if I could go. You know, now
I'm going to start to sell this stuff off, and
a lot of the stuff doesn't mean anything to a
lot of people. It does to me, but for the
most part, it's just stuff that I've accumulated and didn't

(32:08):
throw anything out.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
We'll take a break.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Last call for phone calls, what we learn, what's in
store tomorrow, and we'll try to accomplish all of that
right after this.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Last call for phone calls, what we learn, what's in
store tomorrow? I just saw the menu for Meet Friday,
It's Puerto Rican pork shoulder?

Speaker 3 (32:38):
Is that? Pernell? Pernell? Is that what it's called?

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Maybe if somebody can ask Dylan that Puerto Rican pork
shoulder and fish tacos tomorrow for Meat Friday. No, No,
not yet, not yet, not yet? Marva, Okay, Mike and Jacksonville. Hi, Mike,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 18 (33:02):
Hey?

Speaker 14 (33:03):
Dan?

Speaker 18 (33:03):
I've only called it a few times in the past.
It only when I'm passionate about something. I'm passionate about
Italian subs as Fritzy as about onion bagels, Ross Tucker
spicy mustard and American cheese. Why don't to blast the
Italian sub like that? You know, enjoy it as you want,
call it what you want. Do not call that an
Italian sub? And Dan, I'm sure your wife and her

(33:25):
family would agree with the oilin vinegar or what's your
own prololo?

Speaker 3 (33:29):
Right? Thank you, Mike, Thank you, Mike. I saw this article.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
Fritzy printed it out for me, and it talked about
Anthony Davis is about twenty pounds heavier than he was
last year.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
And I don't think it's a good twenty pounds heavier.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
This is the same organization that was concerned about Luca's
weight and health and moved on from him because well
that and he wasn't playing defense. But Anthony Davis is
twenty pounds. I think I think over his normal playing
we I don't want to say overweight, but by eyewitnesses accounts,

(34:07):
he doesn't look like he's in shape.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
Yes, Pauly, it's how you position it.

Speaker 7 (34:10):
If you say I'm bulking up to handle the riggers
of the NBA season, it sounds like a good thing.
If you said I've gotten slovenly and I'm geting a
little loose, that's not good.

Speaker 15 (34:19):
No.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I think he said, you know, hey, I play it
this weight, but you know I want to bulke up.
And it doesn't matter. He's injury prone. It doesn't matter
how big he is, or lean he is, or any
of that. It just seems that he's going to be injured.
The question is what kind of injury is it going
to be? Greg and Daytona, Hi Greg, what's on your mind?

Speaker 14 (34:39):
Hello Dan?

Speaker 19 (34:40):
Hello dan Etts. I was fortunate enough to grow up
in the nineteen fifties and I heard you guys talking.
One fella there, one of your Danets said about the
twenty seven Yankees. The Yankees won six World Series during
the fifties with Casey Stangel at the Helm. We had

(35:00):
three professional baseball teams within a five mile radius. We
had the Yankees in the Bronx, we had the Giants
up in Manhattan, and of course we had Ebbittsfield with
the Brooklyn Dodgers fabulous times. One little tidbit, why do

(35:21):
they call them the Dodgers? Because back then with the
street cars people, in order for people to get to
Ebbitts Field, they had to dodge the street cars, so
they called them the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
All right, thank you, Greg, Greg speaking on behalf of
New York and not talking about the nineteen twenty seven Yankees,
but in the fifties, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 9 (35:47):
Yes, the twenty seven World Series titles. They wouldn't have
them if they were in today's current playoff format.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
That's what you're trying to say, correct, Okay.

Speaker 6 (35:58):
Because back then you actually had to regular season mattered,
and you actually had to win as many games as possible,
and now you just have to win just enough games
to get into the postseason and then you guys get
to do a whole other roster built for the postseason.

Speaker 9 (36:12):
Correct, the Marlins don't have any World Series titles in
that in that old format.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
Or any fans talk about the fifties Marlins, by the way,
we don't talk enough about them.

Speaker 14 (36:24):
What Todd or any fans according to Marlin as far
as titles, and they don't have much of a fan
base these days.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Took a little shot earlier today. It's accurate.

Speaker 14 (36:37):
If you look at the numbers, the attendance is not good.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
I didn't know this was going to turn into a
feud today. It was you know, New York sports and
you know the real question.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
Is which state has the best uniforms. Let's just do
that then.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Right up Pauli's alley, which which cities have the best
uniform A month on that we.

Speaker 6 (37:03):
Could do easily finish out the week New York v
Chicago v Los Angeles uniform?

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Boy, do you want to have anything to say and
defend Chicago.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
Oh, Chicago sports team versus New York? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (37:16):
I think the Blackhawks have three titles in the past
twenty years. Rangers spent a long time. The Mets. Mets
are what seventy three Mets, eighty six Mets, The White
Sox were five in the past forty years, the Knicks
have won, the Bulls have six in the past ten years,
the Yankees have zero, the Cubs have won, so in

(37:38):
recent history, it's not even close.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Kay, any other todd you have something you got ammo
here too.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
We've mentioned this before.

Speaker 14 (37:47):
Do you like Pittsburgh going all in on the black
and yellow or do you like a city that mixes
up the colors so you can just kind of have
a rainbow of colors for the different teams.

Speaker 5 (37:54):
It's a very important question, very very but I would
like your opinion.

Speaker 14 (37:58):
I don't know if you ever definitively said do you
like that they're all in on black and yellow the paper?

Speaker 2 (38:03):
You're the you're the only New Yorker here and you're
not even in the discussion here, But.

Speaker 20 (38:10):
I don't care.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
I kind of like the all like one city, one
set of colors thing, I think I think I do.
But it only works in cities that you only have
one sports team, like a team in each sport, right,
So like New York you can't do that. Uh La,
you can't do that, but for lots of other cities
you can. I kind of like, actually one city, one

(38:32):
team per sport in each city. Okay, even though I
know that like places like New York and LA are
too big, but I think it's better when a whole
city rallies around one team rather than you know, are
you a Mets or a Yankees fan?

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Anybody calling for the upset tonight with the Giants hosting
the Eagles getting seven points? Any takers on that?

Speaker 5 (38:57):
No?

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Okay, yes, Todd.

Speaker 14 (39:00):
I think the fact of the way the Bronco game
went down is going to make the Eagles, you would think,
even angrier birds, and this should be a blowout. And
if they don't win by like, at least to me,
thirteen points, then I.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
Don't know what's going on.

Speaker 14 (39:13):
The defending champs got embarrassed on their home field. They've
got to take it out on the Giants in primetime.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Are you giving thirteen points?

Speaker 14 (39:20):
I'm not going to take a pie to the face,
but I will say that I think the Eagles should
win by double digits. I would be shocked if they
don't come out and just really work the Giants over
after the way last weekend. Okay, and I'm sticking to
it should be at least a ten point win.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
Quite a claim there, quite a claim Don in Dover,
Hey Don, Hey, good.

Speaker 20 (39:42):
Morning five to eleven and a Sea most one eight five.
Good morning Dana Dinette. I just want to shout out
has it earlier from Indiana? That was a great call.
But also sorry PAULI, but I wanted to say I
wanted to bring up the matchup on Monday night between
the Commanders and the Bears. If Jade and Daniels be
you know Caleb again and they had to have match

(40:03):
up with last time being the Hail Mary, this time
being you know now the bearbly two and three will
be like close to the Eagles if the Bear season
tends to go downward this year again, could it be
in Paully again? You never mentioned the Bears and that
you know ran, but yeah, could this be really bad
for the Bears?

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Okay, this is where I would say, how about some patients.
I know we've seen Caleb for a couple of years,
but let's be patient with Ben Johnson. Let's let's see
how this develops, because I would think that you're on
an uptick here and I think Caleb will benefit from
having stability there as your head coach offensive coordinator. The

(40:45):
weapons that they have do I think Jayden is better. Yes,
Jayden has shown that he's a better quarterback right now,
but that doesn't mean Caleb can't catch him and can't
be a better quarterback. But I think you know, having
wanting to be a great quarterback and listening to somebody
help you be a great quarterback, those are sometimes two

(41:05):
different things, Todd. Would you learn today?

Speaker 14 (41:08):
Monica and Rawley laments the fact that it's now time
to turn her attention to the tag about basketball teams
since football is such a disaster.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
Seed would you learn today?

Speaker 6 (41:15):
We're having pork shoulder tomorrow. That's what I learned to say,
yes we are. Yes, Marvin, what'd you learn?

Speaker 9 (41:21):
Fritzy things were eight year olds?

Speaker 5 (41:23):
Butter jelly and grilled cheese sandwiches. Paul Ross Tucker breakfast
sandwiches questionable.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you tomorrow and
to meet Friday. Have a great day, everybody,
