Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Game of the Year question mark tonight the Rams at
the Seahawks. The Rams are one and a half point
underdogs over under forty two and a half. For entertainment
purposes only, speaking of gambling, the Gambling Podcast Shan Irving,
Dylan and also Bad Larry. We'll record that after the
show here in about an hour from now. Tua is benched,

(00:27):
but more than that, deactivated. So he's the emergency quarterback.
He's the third string quarterback. They played the Bengals coming
up this weekend. Here is the Dolphins head coach Mike
McDaniel on why he is starting Quinn Ewers.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
I think Quinn gives this team the best chance to win.
You know, our focuses obviously to win the next three games,
but in particular, like I tell the players, we are
focused on beating the Bengals, So that was the motivation.
Zach will be backing them up and two will be
the emergency emergency.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Okay, this is what I don't understand. Quin Ewers now
gives you a better chance. Tua is healthy, So what
has quin yours been your best option? You just didn't
want to get to the point where you were going
to bench him or wait until you were out of
the playoff picture. Quin Yours has thrown eight passes. Now

(01:21):
he does have better arm, but did he all of
a sudden become a better quarterback in the last week
or so? This is a Tua thank you, some nice
parting gifts for you. Feels like it's hard to come
back from this now. I don't know if Mike McDaniel's
going to be there next year, but it felt like
he kept his job because of his relationship and development

(01:45):
of Tua, and Tua has had moments of greatness, but
it feels like he's regressed now. He's been healthy, That's
what that was my big question. Could he stay healthy.
That's why I wouldn't have given him the contract. I
would have made him earn that contract and as a result,
you wouldn't be on the hook for all of this money.

(02:06):
And now you got to Russell Wilson situation.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yes, Martin, but before this loss to the Steelers, they
won the last four games I know, so were they
just waiting for two to mess up so he could
put quinn Ewers in the game.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I don't know if it was that tenuous. I think
we're going to find out more about this at the
end of the season. But Quinn yours, Okay, give him
a shot, but I don't know if he gives you
a better chance unless you say we need to have something.
We need to have a spark here eight seven to
seven to three DP show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com,

(02:39):
Twitter handle at DP show Yes, PAULI.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
And I wonder if the Dolphins look at themselves and say,
we're not competing with the Patriots with Drake May, We're
not competing with the Bills with our quarterback going against
the Bills quarterback. They've got three third round draft picks
this year, They've made some trades. They got a first
rounder and a second rounder. It could be a complete
reset and try something else.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
But then why didn't they trade Waddle? I mean, if
you're gonna they sort of rebuilt, I don't know they
would have traded Tyreek Hill if he'd stayed healthy. But
I don't know. I just I'm trying to figure this
out of we're gonna get rid of some pieces, but
we're still gonna try to compete. And now all of
a sudden, you made a declaration here now you're saying

(03:22):
we're moving on from from Tua, So he's deactivated for
the Dolphins. As for their opponent, Joe Burrow had some comments, uh,
just about on how he feels.

Speaker 6 (03:35):
I like playing football for the same reasons that I
wanted to push to come back from injury. For some reasons,
I want to play this week. It feels like everything
everybody's trying to do everything in their power to make
me not play football, and I feel like I'm fighting it,
like fighting everybody else.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
I just want to play.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
I just want to play ball. That's all I wanted
to do.

Speaker 7 (03:54):
Is there any world in your mind where you're not
the quarterback of the.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Bengals next year.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
I can't see that.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I thought about the possibility of not being the quarterback
here during your career, or you think about a lot
of things. I don't know if we're fighting him. We
weren't fighting him. We were commending him for coming back.
He came back earlier than we thought. He came back
and people thought, maybe you just shut him down for

(04:20):
the rest of the year after the injury and the surgery.
So it feels like he's fighting himself. He's the one
that brought it up. You know, he asked the question,
but you know he started going down a dark hole,
started to talk about you know, I'm twenty nine. It's
not fun. I want it to be fun. Those are
his comments. He's fighting himself. This isn't fun, but I

(04:43):
want it to be fun. I want to continue to play. Okay, good,
continue to play. You get that opportunity, you get paid
to play, You got your receivers, you got what you
wanted on offense. Why do you guys not score against
the Ravens. I mean that's a total no show and inexcusable.

(05:04):
But I want Joe Burrow to play ten more years.
Why wouldn't I Why wouldn't anybody say, oh, like, you
know what, why don't you retire now if you don't
want to play or you want to play elsewhere? And
now we have a different conversation, but that's still you
fighting you. I don't think the media is rooting for
you to not play football. Travis Kelsey, he has his

(05:28):
podcast with his brother, so just listen to what he
says in how he refers to the Kansas City Chiefs
talking about Patrick Mahomes coming back.

Speaker 8 (05:39):
He's a fearless, fearless warrior when it comes to this
football thing, and he's going to make sure that he
comes back stronger than ever, and hopefully the Chiefs can
get him back as as soon as possible. I know
right now is kind of right around that week one
or the beginning of the season next year, So I
know he's going to be doing everything he can to
get back back out on that field for the Chiefs

(06:01):
as soon as possible.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Man, Travis, where's the Wii? Why is he saying that?
He makes it seem like he's his brother and he's
already in the media.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
What are you doing?

Speaker 9 (06:12):
I wish I'm all the best going forward.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
It's like he's talking about the Bills. She's the same exactly.

Speaker 10 (06:17):
Yeah, hopefully, you know, hopefully Mike gets back there for
the Packers as soon as possible.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Well, what the heck, where's the Wii? What about us?
And he said he said it twice the Chiefs and
gets back to help the Chiefs those guys, gets back
to help me get more catches, and I come back
one more year unless I'm not coming back because we.

Speaker 10 (06:41):
Need him in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, yes, Ton.

Speaker 11 (06:44):
Would have been great if someone would have said we.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Well, I would have said, Travis, you mean we just
to hear what he would say. Oh, of course, of course,
of course, of course. All right, a couple of phone
calls here, Adam in La Vading, Adam, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 12 (07:02):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Good morning, DP.

Speaker 13 (07:03):
How are you guys doing?

Speaker 14 (07:04):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (07:05):
You just wanted to thanks man, I just want to
call him, say uh one love always. The interviews are
always great entertaining with Mike Lervin. Uh, you really bring
out his true interviewing. I got a chance to meet
him one time. You're right, his energy is on another
level hard to match two. Obviously, I'm excited about the
game to night.

Speaker 15 (07:22):
I just want to see there's any takers for any
pies of the face.

Speaker 7 (07:24):
If I did lose, I'm sure my kids would enjoy it.

Speaker 15 (07:26):
So just seeing I got any takers out there.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Okay, So you're taking the rams in Seattle of course? Okay.
I just wanted to make sure that I, you know,
straight up, even though the line is one and a half,
but you're not getting that. Does anybody want a piece
of Adam? Does anybody have Seattle winning tonight? Seaton? All right,
Adam Seaton will take you up on the pie to
the face. Sound good?

Speaker 13 (07:49):
Any kind of pie works for me?

Speaker 16 (07:51):
All right?

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, we'll work on that. Yeah. What kind of pie
am I getting tomorrow? Todd?

Speaker 11 (07:56):
I was gonna let you decide.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
You know, cherry blueberry, something nice and colorful and messy blueberry?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Okay, No, I was, I was just saying it out loud.
I'm thinking blueberry.

Speaker 11 (08:09):
It's all. You know what it's off to you. It's
the holiday season, so you should build to accusa.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
You're an apple pie?

Speaker 7 (08:17):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Okay? Whatever you like, or a cream pie.

Speaker 11 (08:20):
Seasons of greetings, Okay, pick what you want.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
All right, I'll have the back room. Guys, go and
get something. Whip it up. Once again. We're playing nice.
We're not. You're not smashing me like Michael Irvin did.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
If you don't trust me, someone else can give you
the pie. The bed is basically, you're getting a pie
in the face.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I want to see if you're going to do it,
because you have done it where you were a little aggressive,
and then you had one where you put it on
my hair.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
If I do a passive aggressive pie in the face,
I'm not sure what that exactly entails.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Just stay pie to the face.

Speaker 11 (08:51):
And don't put it on your top of your hand.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Do not put it on the hair, don't mess up
mess hair. Yes, request, because I you know what, don't
make me have another pie by my side. And then
I respect. Yes, if if you go above and beyond
and try to inflict some damage, I have a thing.

Speaker 11 (09:10):
I'm gonna be extra gentle for the hollow.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
All right, that sounds good, extra gentle Tony in California,
Good morning, tone.

Speaker 17 (09:20):
Hey guys, good morning, beautiful day.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Thank you.

Speaker 17 (09:24):
So I just wanted to value you guys, you guys opinion,
because you guys are so nice. But the banner thing,
I decided I'm gonna hang a banner in my house,
and I wondered if anything's banner worthy. When I was nine,
I beat Nicholson in a junior golf tournament San Diego
Junior Golf. I placed third, though I.

Speaker 13 (09:44):
Didn't win the tournament.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Is that banner worthy? Sure? Why not? Hey, you only
have to answer to you if you put up a banner,
and or if you're you know, the La Kings and
you take down Taylor Swift's banner, I mean you, I
have to answer for that. I still can't believe they
did that. We got to look into that yes time.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
And she sings songs about karma to do that, to
tell us what they never win a cup again?

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yeah, yeah, let's see Randall and Virginia. Hi Randall, what's
on your mind?

Speaker 12 (10:16):
Hey? DP, how's it going great? A few things first,
I would like to submit a red in ballot for
the pole question. As much as I love Michael Irving
as a lifelong Cowboys fan, I would want to write
in Johnny Pete, Johnny Manziel twenty ten to maybe twenty fifteen.

(10:37):
As far as who would want to party with?

Speaker 2 (10:40):
All Right, I don't think Johnny's on Michael Irvin's level,
just stand, but Johnny would It would have been fun.
He might be fun. Now I don't know. Yes, Marv,
he's not on his level as a partier or as
a player. Wow. No, although he did have one of
the greatest seasons in college football history. Oh without quest Yes,

(11:02):
I mean you cannot take that away from him.

Speaker 10 (11:04):
Uh, Mike Evans could.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
But wow, wow, I just real, You know, I forget
at the at the moment where I think it was
Mike Evans in the NFL and I go, oh my god,
any kind of you know, fifty to fifty ball.

Speaker 16 (11:21):
Mike Evans was bringing it down. It's amazing Johnny, like
he just gets out of the pocket somehow. He just
throws it up and finds his receiver. Only he could
put it in that window right there, and then you realize,
look at that window we put it in.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
He put it right in that window. Mike Evans was,
you know, so underrated because we kept thinking that's just
Johnny be and Johnny, that's that's magic. And all of
a sudden, Johnny doesn't play in the NFL, and then
Mike Mike Evans is going to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 15 (11:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:49):
Paul Manziel's first year at A and M thirty seven
hundred yards passing, twenty six touchdowns, nine picks, wins the
Heisman his second and by the way, rushing that year
fourteen hundred yard rushing in twenty one tds, which led
the SEC in rushing and rushing.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Td But that's to me is what's mind boggling.

Speaker 9 (12:07):
In thirteen games.

Speaker 5 (12:08):
Yeah, his second year in college, which he finished fifth
in Heisman, he's through for he was a seventy percent passer,
forty two hundred yards thirty seven touchdowns.

Speaker 9 (12:17):
He was a better passer.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Yeah, wow, what did he run for that?

Speaker 5 (12:21):
He cut it down to seven hundred and fifty yards
rushing in nine touchdowns, which for anyone else would have
been unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Barb in Illinois, Hi, Barb, how are you great? Born?

Speaker 18 (12:32):
Just calling forget to tell you guys one thing. I'm
in Rockford, home of Kit Trick. We have a banner
here from Brick Xander and the Boys live at Buda Khan.
It's in the Metro Center. And secondly, I was wondering
if you think Mike McDonald is pulling a cya on

(12:58):
himself to cover instead of two up.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
A cya, cover your ass?

Speaker 18 (13:05):
There you go?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 9 (13:07):
Bar bar bringing the heat?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Yeah, live at Buddhican. Was that a double album? I
think it might have been had I had Cheap Trick.
I had a There was an event called the fair
Way to Heaven in Las Vegas and it was a
bunch of musicians and I went out there with Hoody
and the Blowfish and it was a golf tournament. And

(13:29):
I remember one night Rick Nielsen, who was the guitar
player for Cheap Trick, and he was a fan of
Sports Center and he sits down we start talking and
he said, do you want to go up to my room?
And they said, well, what are we doing up there?
He goes, I've come up with this. It's for your breath,

(13:52):
and it's a little piece of you know, I don't
know what you would describe it. So, I mean they
have these things now, so it dissolves. It's almost like
a piece of plastic that dissolves, and it's for your breath.
And so I didn't go up to his room, but
he did show me this, and I was thinking, who's

(14:14):
gonna buy that?

Speaker 7 (14:15):
You know?

Speaker 2 (14:15):
And then all of a sudden, I don't know if
he took it to market. I just remember he's like,
do you want to come up to my room? And
then he had these little breath strips and I think
they still sell those things. Yes, Tod, that's kind of fascinating,
Thank you, Tod.

Speaker 9 (14:31):
Yes, Paul, he asked you to go to his room,
and the name of his bann is cheap trick. Oh,
it's almost too obvious.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
And I would have gone there if he had a
better reason than just hey, I got these.

Speaker 10 (14:43):
Breath strips and are you like, so, are you showing
me your invention or are you telling me I need
your invention. Is this like, hey, look at this cool
thing I did, or are you saying that I have
really bad breath that can't really tell?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Maybe both? Maybe both?

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Why do you have to go up through his room?
There's got to be other places where he can just
show you the little well.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
I think it was up there for some reason, but
I just remember he showed me this and I was like, here,
put it on.

Speaker 7 (15:07):
Now.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
I didn't know what I was putting on my freaking tongue,
you know, could be a tab of something, who knows.
But he was like, oh, you know, try this and
then all of a sudden it dissolves and I'm going,
who's gonna buy this? And then all of a sudden,
who knows? He probably made millions and millions of dollars.
Very bright guy and fun and uh cheap trick surrender.

(15:30):
That was Seaton said? Was that one of your anthems
growing up?

Speaker 10 (15:34):
Now, that's one of those if like aliens landed here
and they wanted me to explain rock and roll, I
would That's one of the songs I would play. Dang yeah,
like explain what rock and roll is? I would play.
That's one of the songs for sure, Cheap tricks.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Render Okay, what other songs? If aliens came down and
you say you want to hear rock and roll, that's
rock and roll. Yes, didn't chip trick? If I want
you to want me, yeah, that's a figure.

Speaker 11 (16:03):
That's the one.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I want you to want me that it's not good.

Speaker 10 (16:09):
This next song, the first song on our new album.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
I would say that you had to have a Stone
song in there.

Speaker 10 (16:18):
I guess, oh, if we need to.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
But you know what, I wouldn't have a Beatles song
on there. Fair if it's rock and roll. I mean
maybe Helter Shelter Skelter could be. That might scare them. Yes,
Marvin Black, Sabbath war Pigs.

Speaker 10 (16:35):
Sure, that's a good one.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
That's a good line. I'm just not a Sabbath guy.
That's a great song, though, mister Crowley, Yes.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
We're talking bangers, not necessarily band so like Cashmere by
Led Zeppelin, Bob O'Riley by The Who bangers.

Speaker 9 (16:53):
Whether you like the Who or not, it's not even debatable.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
I would have picked a different Zeppelin, but Bob O'Reilly
by the Who. The kids won't get to kids won't
get full.

Speaker 10 (17:04):
If we needed to include their one good song.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I can't get seating, I can't get him to understand
good music. I mean, I try, I try. If that's
good music, try. I don't want to be right. I
don't want to be They had such an impact on
rock and roll, unbelievable, unbelievable, one of the great guitar
players of all time. You had a crazy drummer Roger

(17:31):
Daltrey and unbelievable lead singer John Entwhistle the bass player,
all Hall of famers in their own right.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yes, you could have an impact of something, but it's
not necessarily a good impact.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yeah, speaking from experience. How about we take a break here.
You had to jump in.

Speaker 11 (17:45):
Didn't you set you up for that one.

Speaker 2 (17:49):

More phone calls coming up. We stumbled on if aliens
came down to Earth and you wanted to introduce them
to rock and roll, this would be up there. This
would be one of those songs. Right, how about Nirvana? Well,
teen Spirit?

Speaker 10 (18:51):
If you only got five songs, all five, it's not
like an endless playlist. You only get five songs, Okay,
that you have to you got your five. I feel
like at one point in time I did. I don't
know if I do right now, but I can put
it together. I could figure it out. Todd, I don't
know if you know any rock and roll Sweet.

Speaker 11 (19:11):
Child of Mine? Okay. I also like Zeezy top Legs that.

Speaker 9 (19:17):
Just got it, likes hot for Teachers.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
I was gonna say, what are some of the other
creepy ones? Yeah, we're introducing the aliens to creepy rock
zones here. Yes, Paulie.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
I would say a top five. Obviously Spirited of the
radio by Rush, under Pressure, Bowie and Queen, that'd be
in the top five. Really under Pressure.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Is a doom doom, Doom, doom doom.

Speaker 9 (19:48):
He just reaches a crescendo though, And those are two legends.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah, but I don't know if it's rock and roll boy,
I don't know, Like we are the champions by Queen.

Speaker 9 (19:59):
Great song, but the idea of Bowie.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
And well, we could have Bowie and Mick Jagger doing
their song no No, two legends, two legends. I was
sent this a couple of days ago. And these are
stadiums the team that plays there, the surface, if it's
open air, if it's a dome, and then it has

(20:23):
things like independent rating for non contact ACL injuries, then
it would be a rating for non contact achilles tendon injuries.
Then there was a column for high ankle springs. So
this is the information now they say either high, moderate,

(20:46):
or low with all those categories for these stadiums, for instance,
the MetLife Giants and the Jets ACL non contact high
Achilles injury, non contact high high ankle spring. HI, you

(21:07):
don't want to play on that field. That surface. Now
here's another one, SOFI Stadium, Rams Chargers, you have non
contact ACL injuries high, non contact Achilles high. Then it's
moderate with a high ankle spring. But they go on

(21:29):
to have hamstring injuries. SOFI Stadium is ranked high, and
then they'll have a moderate Liz Fronk injury. So great
detail on this. How about Ford Field with the Lions,
so they would have high for ACL, non contact, high

(21:50):
for achilles, and then they would have high for hamstring injuries.
So these are all rankings. The NFL has all of
this information. You know, the Vikings and the Cowboys their
field non contact ACL ranked high. So these are just
some of the rankings that they have. This is NFL

(22:15):
stadium playing surface injury risk index for every stadium. Let
me see if I can get see if somebody's low
low low low low. Oh yeah, there's a lot of them.
These are considered low for all of these other categories Packers, Eagles, Steelers, Chiefs, Broncos, Jags, Dolphins, Browns, Niners, Ravens, Commanders, Buccaneers,

(22:38):
and the Bears. They're all either low or moderate. But
then you have a couple of those up top at
MetLife Stadium, Sofi Stadium, The Lions, Vikings, and the Cowboys
have some high rankings or high incidents of these injuries,

(23:00):
non contact injuries. And that's what was confusing to me
about Michael Parsons. It's non contact. But we talked to
RG three yesterday and he suffered the same injury as
Patrick Mahomes. It was just a different knee. But ACL
LCO and you you have these non contacts and it

(23:22):
could be the field, it could be the shoes, just bigger,
stronger players trying to turn, twist move, but the non
contact I understand how Patrick Mahomes got hurt. Michael Parsons.
It's like Dan Marino went back to pass and blew
out his achilles, like just going back to pass. Kevin
Durant kind of a casual uh oh. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (23:46):
See, when you look at that list that you just
ran down, there's a very clear split between the green
and the red. Yeah, and the bottom twelve, thirteen, fourteen
teams that are all on the green are all on grass.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
You have every single one of them. Now, Michael Parsons
was on grass. I get that.

Speaker 10 (24:03):
So like it's a when we talk about the difference
between grass and turf, it doesn't mean one hundred percent
one way one hundred percent the other way. But it's
the likelihood of it that people are talking about. And
when you look at this bottom, I don't know, it
might be fourteen teams. Yeah, they all play on grass
and then all of a sudden it starts getting yellow
and red and that's when turf starts getting introduced.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Yeah, great point. The Bermuda grass is a lot of
these fields. Kentucky bluegrass a lot of these fields. The
Eagles have grass Master, the Packers have a hybrid grass
in there. So if you're going to make the argument
natural or artificial, players want to play on natural turf.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Yeah, Paul, based off what you guys are saying, do
you think it'd be best for the NFL players if
both game services and practice services throughout the league weere
the exact same at every stadium where there's just one
field and we find a partner that's it.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
You would think they would have already done that.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Now.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
I don't know if the NBA uses the same surface
for all of its stadium or all of its basketball floors.
I don't know that, but you would think you would
want to have uniformity. The best you can. I mean,
there are hockey rinks that aren't the same size, So
not every hockey rink, or at least it used to be,
not every hockey rink was the same dimensions. Yes, you know,

(25:25):
I don't know if you can do that.

Speaker 10 (25:26):
I think in theory it sounds right, But I don't
know that the field in Miami is going to be
the same as the field in Green Bay just because
of the weather there. The weather and the conditions. You know,
all your environment is going to impact how the field is,
you know, So I think that that's something that would
have to be taken into consideration. But you would imagine
there would be some more uniformity than maybe than what

(25:49):
they're currently is. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Fritzie said that maybe it's only appropriate that it's met
life insurance if you're going to play there.

Speaker 11 (25:56):
I was like, there's a good chance you're gonna get
significant injured.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
I wondered, you know, when I asked RG three, did
you consider suing the commanders the Redskins at the time,
like bad conditions. You put me out here on a
playing surface that led to the downfall of my career,
and you just kind of smiled. He said, uh Na,
you don't want to sue the team that you're playing

(26:21):
for if you're still in the NFL. Doug in Cincinnati,
Good morning, Doug. What's on your mind today? Good morning Dan?

Speaker 14 (26:30):
I called in about the question. Oh, first time ever?
Uh six, I called in about the who you would
party with? Question? Because you know, partying could go two ways.
You could either just be a guy you go out
drinking with, and then there's guys who got way more extracurriculars. Well,
we get to the real party. Yours, Eddie Millner, Dot

(26:52):
Goodin and Darryl Strawberry in one room. Lord have mercy?

Speaker 2 (26:56):
All right, thank you, Doug. Well, certainly with Doc. Didn't
Doc miss the parade? That was so sad? And look,
I met Doc when he was nineteen. I met his father,
got to know them, and the Mets did the best
they could to kind of insulate him. And I loved

(27:19):
being around Daryl Strawberry. He was a nice person, he
was and I was a noboddy and he gave me
time if I needed an interview when I was out
there with the Mets. But Doc is partying and he
misses was that the Yankees or the Mets.

Speaker 9 (27:39):
The Mets parade.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
He went out with the team to a club, according
to an interview with him with CBS, and then he
went to his dealer's place and stayed up all night,
fell asleep and woke up the morning, turned it on
and there was a parade on TV.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
And I mean it's sad.

Speaker 9 (27:53):
They said he had an illness. The Mets issued have released.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Said said yeah done.

Speaker 11 (27:58):
He watched supposedly from a long hour department. Yes, drug
dealer's place.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
He might have addressed that with us when we had
him on at one point. Tommy in Madison, Hi, Tommy,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 7 (28:11):
Hey?

Speaker 15 (28:12):
Dan?

Speaker 21 (28:12):
All this talk of field size, I wonder what size
the baskets are back in Hickory. I wonder if there's
the still ten feet. When you talk about hanging out
with people from the nineties, I'm gonna have to throw
this guy in here. I'd love to hang with him.
Dennis Rodman. Yes, I'll wear the wedding dress too, Rodman

(28:34):
for the wind.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Okay. I did it one night at the Crowbar in Chicago,
and there were a couple of members of the media
were there. Craig Seger was there, and I remember Dennis
was there and he had a a a Chicago police
shirt on and he had a hat on. He had

(29:00):
his arm around a guy and a girl and they
were standing off to the side of the bar. And
the entire bar so you go in, you go up
the second floor. The entire bar was Kama Kazi's. And
if you went to the bar, even if you ordered
a beer, you had to do a Kama Kazi. Well,
Dennis was doing a shot. He was doing a Kama

(29:22):
Kazie with you. Everybody who went up to get a beer.
James Edwards was in there. There were a few players
in there. And I just remember the next morning, the
Bulls had practice, and you know, I have to go.
I'm going to get some interviews and I'm looking out

(29:43):
because I'm thinking Dennis can't be here, and he is
just bouncing up and down like he's on a poghostick.
He was full of entergy, just running up and down,
running up and down. Steve Kirk goes, how do you feel.
I go. He goes, yeah, I heard you went out
with Dennis. I said, well, I was in the room.
He goes, yeah, you gotta or he's a professional. He's

(30:05):
a professional. Like yeah, I think that night he had
twenty rebounds, like you're just going that was that was
a normal night, it felt like for him. Denny in Orlando, Hi, Denny,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 14 (30:18):
Hey?

Speaker 21 (30:19):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (30:19):
How are you good?

Speaker 14 (30:21):
Good?

Speaker 22 (30:21):
Grew up in the Boston area and idolize you growing up.
We all did all your terms on Sports Center. So
I just had one thing to say about the Travis
Kelcey situation with him speaking as Dan Patrick would say,
I believe Travis Kelsey is gone gone.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
It felt like that now if he was on and
I would say, Okay, what are you saying here? And
where's the we and then just see what he says,
because I'm surprised his brother didn't. And now, unless his
brother already knows that Travis is playing or not playing,
may be not playing, then maybe he's not going to
put pressure on his brother until the season is over.

(31:05):
I'm guessing. But I was just surprised that he made
it seem like Patrick Mahomes is going back to some
team next year and not the team that he's on.
Dave in Cincinnati, Good morning, Dave. How can I help you?

Speaker 13 (31:19):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (31:20):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (31:20):
What's your drinking water?

Speaker 14 (31:25):
Good? Hey?

Speaker 13 (31:26):
I just had a compliment and the question the compliment
is you guys are definitely the gold transam of sports radio.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Well, thank you, thank you, we didn't get it illegal.

Speaker 15 (31:38):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 13 (31:40):
The question I had, well, let's just get your input
on this is that, you know, it seems like, you know,
people are saying that college football is going the direction
of pro football. I'm kind of afraid that it's going
in the direction of pro baseball. That you know, it's
going to be they has and have nots again, and
and you know, and then it's going to be you know,

(32:00):
you know the whole you know, the big teams will
be able to buy their way into the playoffs and
then this law schools be left out again.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Yeah, but it's been this way and nothing's really changed.
I mean, some of these teams aren't as good as
they used to be. Nebraska and Oklahoma they got all
kinds of talent. Yeah, and what you got away with
back then if your players were on something or they
were getting, you know, some kind of monetary inducements to

(32:30):
go there. I mean, all of these things happened Michigan
and Ohio State. They would hoard like their backups and
then their backups. Backups could start for just about anybody
the you did this, they'd have like four running backs
and all four would end up in the NFL. So
it it is changing in a way that you can,

(32:52):
like Texas Tech, kind of buy your way into the playoffs.
You know, now there's a different formula do this. All
you need is a couple of big boosters because you're
going to get your money. You have nil money, and
then you're going to have your collectives. Well the money
that your collectives have that can be the difference because
as a source said yesterday, you know you're going to

(33:14):
get a quarterback between three and four million dollars that's
the going rate, and then your collectives you need to
tackle on about twenty million dollars more than what the
nil money is. And then you've got a team that
can compete. But if you don't have that, then no,
you're not going to be able to. Now Tulane doesn't
have to spend that kind of money because of their conference.

(33:37):
James Madison doesn't have to, so they're kind of playing
by different rules. Hey, we play in this conference. If
we win this conference, we get to play in the playoffs.
Now they're not better than Notre Dame, but they did
what they're supposed to do, and they don't have to spend.
They don't have forty million dollars. They may not have
twenty million dollars. But when your and then you can

(34:01):
get in according to the rules that exist.

Speaker 7 (34:04):
Now.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Last call for phone calls. What we learn? What's in
store tomorrow? Right after this?

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (34:23):
What we learn? Once in store tomorrow, I meet Friday.
I just went out in the kitchen see what we're
whipping up. And Dylan is gonna make chili, be a
nice Friday chili. I don't know what else, but I
know that he's working on that as we speak. And
I got to figure I got to get a pie
to the phase that would go along with chili, Like

(34:45):
what would accompany that? And I think I'm gonna go Apple?
Is that all right?

Speaker 14 (34:50):
Tom?

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (34:51):
I mean it's not as colorful, might not be as
good a content.

Speaker 11 (34:55):
That's okay, A gentle apple pie heading into Christmas? Nothing
wrong with that?

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Do you want to put some whip cres on it.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
I thought I'd got to throw some eggnog over your
head if we're going to go all the way with
the Christmas spirit.

Speaker 11 (35:04):
No, well, we should do a little whip cream on
the apple.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
But we don't drink eggnog any other time of the year,
do we.

Speaker 11 (35:09):
We don't. I don't think anyone really drinks that like
in May.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Is that a wind breaker you got on?

Speaker 11 (35:14):
It is an old school deep wind break.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
I don't use that expression wind breaker as much as
I used to it.

Speaker 11 (35:21):
It'd be a good time to use it. I think
that would be considered a wind breaker.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
We got a wind breaker a light jacket. Yeah, what's
the T shirt? Underneath?

Speaker 11 (35:28):
T shirt?

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Underneath is whoa?

Speaker 11 (35:32):
Los Angeles Rams? Just came in the mail yesterday and
Los Angels Rams shirt?

Speaker 2 (35:36):
Wait? Why did you get it?

Speaker 4 (35:39):
I got a bunch of stuff from my son who
recently came here. No, no, it came I ordered this
as a gift with a bunch of other things because
that's now my second favorite team.

Speaker 11 (35:47):
So I wanted to wear something Rams underneath. Good luck
for tonight.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
But if the Rams played the Broncos, I.

Speaker 11 (35:53):
Would have to root for the Broncos. Broncos and my team.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Okay, I made that very clear with my son, and
that's just the way that if they meet each other
in the Super Bowl for some reason, they keep the
one seeds and go all the way I got, Ruffy Denver.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Are you more of a we with the Broncos than
Travis Kelcey is with the Chiefs? Yes, okay, as.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
Lower's Bownix keeps that wind streak alive and we keep
going forward that they are definitely a.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Week I love it. I love it. Scott and fort Wayne. Hi, Scott,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (36:19):
Hi?

Speaker 14 (36:19):
Dad?

Speaker 21 (36:20):
I was thinking this week with hindsight did twenty twenty?

Speaker 13 (36:24):
I just wonder if Patrick Mahomes wishes he had take
it that knee brace from Meghan Trainer.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
The commercial correct, Yeah, all right? Think they yeah, yeah, probably.
I don't think it would have necessarily helped, though, As
Jim Harbaugh said that if you played offensive line or
defensive line at Michigan when he was there, you it
was mandatory you had to wear these knee braces. But

(36:54):
it feels like you see this it's pretty common now,
certainly with college football and those contraps. And I wore
knee brace all through high school in college. But these
are really intricate. These are almost like Frankenstein stuff where
it's like big metal things.

Speaker 9 (37:12):
Yeah, Paul, I know it doesn't affect knee injuries.

Speaker 5 (37:14):
I'm not saying that, but I wish football players would
wear their pants to their knee and over their knee
like they used to. They're basically wearing pre pants or
shorts these days.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Joe in Ohio, Hi, Joe, what's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (37:27):
He then first time, long time six?

Speaker 13 (37:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Thanks.

Speaker 15 (37:35):
Going into you know, the college football playoff this weekend,
the Athletic did a survey with Power for and group
of five coaches on who's the best coach going into
the college football playoffs and Ryan Dave did not receive
a single vote, while Kirby and Signetti received almost all
of them. You know, there's there's been this notion that

(37:57):
Ryan Day was born on third third base, uh, you know,
over the last six seven years. And does he need
a back to that national title to get over that
hump or is the notion still going to be there?
And one more thing, Dan, I got in the spirit
of pies in the face, I got a buck eye
pie of the face for anyone Ohio State versus the

(38:18):
rest of the field.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
So Joe's taking Ohio State and you can have everybody
else in the playoffs, including Tulane and James Madison. Yeah,
does anybody want a piece of Joe? You're you're on
a pie betting spree. I must be hungry or something,
my betting spree.

Speaker 10 (38:40):
Well, yeah, I'll take that one too.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
I have the piesman back here, the Pisan trophy that
was sent in.

Speaker 10 (38:48):
So I have Ohio State losing at some point, just
not winning the national championship. Yeah, and then uh oh
Seattle winning tonight.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, straight up, yeah, straight up, straight up. I don't
know about the Ryan Datha, but you know, Jim Harball
is the one that talked about Ryan Day woke up
on third base at Ohio State. He inherited an unbelievable team,
and they probably do year in a year out have more.
They're going to have probably five first round draft picks,

(39:16):
may maybe more than that this year and so, and
you know, you have a receiver and their quarterback not
eligible to be drafted, or they might be first round
draft picks as well. But yeah, Harball is the one
that said that, And I think it's and there is
some truth to that. It's like Barry Switzer took over
for Jimmy Johnson and got a super Bowl. But Ryan

(39:38):
Day has had some sustained greatness here and you did
win a national title. Winning another one feels like, okay,
you won one, but you got to be pretty good
to win too. At least I would I would hope
that that how he would be viewed, Paul this day
in sports history.

Speaker 9 (39:56):
I got a couple for you, Dan, I got Nate Thurman.
You just mention him. The other day.

Speaker 5 (40:00):
Nineteen seventy seven, the Calves retired his number forty two.
Will Chamberlain and sixty one had seventy eight points against
the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
And uh oh.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Two thousand and two, a press conference, hell To announced
that the Robert Johnson was a new owner of the
NBA's Charlotte franchise.

Speaker 9 (40:16):
That was historic, and that's it.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
Let's go around the room. What we learned on the
program Todd Would you learn today?

Speaker 4 (40:22):
Michael Irvin believes Case has to start retooling and building
more talent around their superman.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Patrick Mahomes seton would you learn today?

Speaker 10 (40:28):
Ohio State fans are feeling a little underappreciated form, right,
so very fair.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Okay, Marvin, how about you. You think Seton doesn't know
good music? Yeah, that's true, Pauli. Not Shania Twain, No, apparently, Lauri,
we don't know that.

Speaker 9 (40:42):
I confirmed.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
We don't know a second. I'm gonna stick up for
Troy here. We don't know that. Bear Laurie Morgan, another
country singer. He dated.

Speaker 10 (40:52):
Around Lauri Morgan's time, there was a young upstart singer,
Shania Twain.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
We'll talk to you tomorrow. Have a great day, everybody,
