Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
In this Tuesday, we'll talk to the freshly minted PGA
champ Xander Schoffley. Will stop by Edmonton in Game seven
advances to the Western Conference Finals beating the Canucks tonight,
Pacers and the Celtics Game one Eastern Conference Finals. Pacers
getting ten NBA All Rookie Team announced victor wimben Yama unanimous.
(00:28):
Chad Holmgren in his red shirt freshman year makes the
All Rookie Team. Did we ever hear back from the
NBA on the Rookie of the Year, Not just yet.
That's two hours ago that we inquired about should chet
Holmgren be eligible for the It could be busy.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
The Conference finals starts tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
You know, I don't know what do you? Maybe the
Commissioner's holding a meeting right now about this topic and
we want.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
To get back to the Dan Patrick Show in this question.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of The Dan Patrick Show. The
second senior golf major of the season, Legends must raise
their game the Senior PGA Championship that'll be May twenty
third through twenty six on Golf Channel, NBC and Peacock Pole.
Question for the final hour of the program is going
(01:15):
to be watched seedon O'Connor.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Well, Dan, we had up there for the first hour.
Is chet Holngrin a rookie right now? Fifty nine percent
of the audience say no, No, he absolutely is not.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Okay, we had a discussion.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
A little earlier about sport with the best looking uniforms. Okay,
I might throw that up there. Well, MLBNBA, NFL, NHL.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Teams that didn't change their look because we watched Edmonton
and Edmonton beat Vancouver. Vancouver's changed their uniforms a few
times when they played in the Stanley Cup final. I
like those blue uniforms, but Edmonton's look awesome. But they
look awesome partly due or maybe I guess all due
(02:01):
to Wayne Gretzky's success there. So you look at that
and you immediately go, that's a winner. I remember we
had problems with the Padres uniforms from the seventies because
the Padres weren't any good. Then they got a little
bit better and they were like, man, you've seen those
Padre uniforms. I go, those are the same uniforms they
had in the seventies when Mike Ivy was playing for them.
(02:24):
But it feels like winning makes something look better.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Yes, Paul, But which league has the best uniforms. It's
interesting because baseball has nice, clean uniforms, but you rarely go, oh,
look at those those are gorgeous there.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Well, this year they don't look good. No, no, buddy.
Then hockey probably, I would say hot. Well, first of all,
the Blackhawks, to me, might be the best jersey in
all of sports. That is a spectacular look. Yes, Marvin,
I'm gonna go Dodgers. I'm Dodgers beautiful. The red number
(03:00):
in the front, I have a blue number in the back.
I know, I know. It's the little things. Always. Winning
is in the details, Yes it is. It's why we
don't win. By the way, we just received an email
last hour inviting us to watch the Sports Emmys. Watch
people who are more detail oriented. Yeah, watch people are
better than better than us.
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, you know what, But I'm not going to be
defined by a silly trophy. I'm better than that. It's
just like the commissioner said about the astros. You know,
it's just a piece of metal. That's the way we
have to look at it. We're winners, come on right, yeah, obody, Oh,
(03:41):
let's go nobody.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
If we win and I die like posthumously, like you
guys go up there and and maybe have a little
fun and mock you know, the sports and like do something.
Don't don't go up there and like you guys might
cry because you're remembering me and all the great memory
and I get that, and I don't blame you, but
have a little levity there because usually the ceremony goes
(04:06):
on too long and the speeches are not very good.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yes, only one person talks right when you win.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, but that's where I said. We already had this
game plan where let's say I'm still alive and we
win in the next three and a half years, and
everybody goes up there, and then I'll grab the this
trophy and then I'll say, you know, we have one
thing we would like to say, and then you guys
get together right at the microphone and then just start
(04:35):
talking at the same time, so all four of you
at the same time. That way everybody gets to have
their speech, and then we're done. Then we walk off,
and then I walk off like who is it Breakfast Club?
Oh yeah, bender Bender when he walks off off the
football field.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
For get.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I did that in the calendar one year. Yeah yeah.
Oh by the way, shooting the calendar for this year,
and I can't give you any hints on it, but
once again, the French kid did an unbelievable job last year.
Those are famous paintings, did a great job. The Girl
with the Pearl earring Fritzy. It's creepy great, it really is.
(05:18):
It's creepy great, creepy great.
Speaker 8 (05:20):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
But this one, this is a great one as well.
So we're shooting that and then we'll let you know
when you're able to order the DP show calendar. I
told you about the Azalea Moonshine and it's gone, so
we sold out. Now Watermelon, we have a little bit left.
These are two of our favorites there available at Danpatrick
dot com. Rick in Arizona, Hi, Rick, what's on your
(05:44):
mind today?
Speaker 9 (05:46):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Good morning Dan, Thanks for colling.
Speaker 8 (05:48):
Yeah five two ten. Hey, I wanted to call about
the DDC. Unfortunately I just became a member of the
two time DDC. But also within the last year I
lost my mom. So are there any plans for the
d MC.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Teachert Hmmm, let me talk to our head of product development, Seaton.
Is there a chance that there's Dead Mom's Club?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Uh, you know, we hadn't really thought of it. We
were just looking right there as the call was going
on into the Dead Dance Club, which has been mentioned before.
You said we might get an Emmy posthumously. Yes, we
have talked about the Dead Dance Club before, but we
haven't gone with the DMC just yet.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, time.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Why does it somehow feel less sensitive? I don't know why.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
That doesn't actually make me laugh at all. I'm like,
why would we even Yeah? My initial reaction is like,
why would we even do that?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
You sick? Oh? Yes, yeah, we psychopath We're going to
do a Dead Mom's Club with tell's wrong with you?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, I agree?
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Why would we do that?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah? Yeah, I don't know Mom's different or mom.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
But the sad part about this is the mentality that
the dads are supposed to die early.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Well we do, yeah, we do math, yes, yeah, called
stress actuaries.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
It's like when I tell my wife, I said you're
going to live to be a hundred, they all don't
say that. I don't. I said, you will. You're going
to live to be a hundred. I won't.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
How much your nagging are we supposed to take? What
the stats suggests.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Wow, you are the least.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
The place, and the ladies are doing their thing.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
We're like, oh my god, Todd, you're the least nag
husband I've ever met, not Herrison, Fritzie just showed up
all the sudden.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
I'm not a good example of that. I'm the nagger.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Harrison Butker, Fritzie Buter, Todd Butker.
Speaker 10 (07:47):
Yes.
Speaker 11 (07:50):
Sure.
Speaker 12 (07:50):
In my case, I'm the my father one that nags
a lot more and asks a lot of innane questions.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
Ask you things like to take out the garbage or
cook a meal in your lifetime.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Both of those things in the same week. I don't
have anything after that.
Speaker 13 (08:04):
Nothing.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah, I said to Fritzy's wife, I said, you're Jewish,
but I'd still like to nominate you for sainthood. Yeah yeah,
And she said yeah, like she was fine with, you know,
being nominated for saying, So, Fritzy.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
There's all women nag and they're annoying, and okay, I
see it.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
James in Virginia, James joining us on the program Good
to have you back, James, Oh.
Speaker 11 (08:29):
Thank you taking my call brother. Happy Teensday, DP Dan
that salute the Commanders man, oh Man, Crawford stole my thounder.
I think the Heatles for sure was probably the most
team with the most pressure to win the title. Man,
But I'll hit a couple offs that I was thinking
about on hold Man. The ninety one bold to me,
I mean I was only eight at the time, but
they had to have a mint pressure. Seven years then,
(08:52):
the best playing in the league never been to a final,
going to the first one against the Lakers. The O
nine Yankees were a rod the sixteen Broncos with Peyton Manning,
the twenty twenty one Buccaneers with Tom Brady, the twenty
two Astros, and I think in twenty twenty four, going
into the NFL season, I don't think there's one team
will always be gull with Cowboys, but there's one team
(09:14):
to me that has the most pressure to be successful
this year, and that is the New York Jets. Man
with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 13 (09:20):
And Marvin Man. You had me all day long on
the Trump last week singing happy birthday, Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday.
Speaker 11 (09:31):
I appreciate you guy. Y'all have a break.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Day, all right?
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (09:34):
James Danes got entergy.
Speaker 12 (09:36):
I knew he knew the worst of what the Stevie Wonder,
the Stevie Wonder version of Happy Birthday.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Oh, I knew for sure he knew that. Andrew in
New York, Hi, Andrew, what's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Hit end?
Speaker 9 (09:46):
I got two for the most pressure yep, ninety four Rangers.
That was brutal, heeled attention, even if you were in
a sports bar or whatever. And that performance that missiated
in that Game six or Game save where he carried
was still one of the best performances ever. And going
the other way the Masters with Greg Norman, that was
(10:08):
ruttle to watch.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I was around for both of those, Greg Norman melting down,
and Rick Riley famously told me Greg Norman always finds
the banana peel. That was the line, because I said,
Norman gonna win this. This is the night before that
final round in Augusta. He said, Greg Norman always finds
(10:32):
the banana peel. And then the Rangers, having been involved
in that, went to a bar afterwards. They had the
cup there, got to take a sip out of the cup,
didn't know what was in it, Yes, Marton.
Speaker 12 (10:46):
Speaking of teams with pressure, what about the payment and
Colt when they went to that Super Bowl finally against
the Bears, I think like, all right, you got past
the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
You guys have to do it now.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I think Peyton had pressure because he had never won
anything in college. You did win anything, and then the
NFL we were waiting for him.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
But not the team as a whole, just him.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I mean, I'm just going off memory. It feels like
there have been times when you go that team's under
a lot of pressure. I don't know if it was
so pronounced that they were top talking points on shows.
I just don't remember that, even when Jordan. I mean,
Jordan had to go through the Pistons and the Celtics,
so it's not like you goo boy that he's got
(11:28):
a lot of pressure he better win a championship. I
don't remember that. Yeah, poom.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
You know, there really wasn't daily nationwide sports radio in
the early nineties when Jordan was fighting to get a title.
There wasn't The concept of the clock is ticking on
this guy's career hadn't really been invented in sports media yet,
not until at least late nineties when sports radio took off.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
I mean, there's so many shows now, and you got
to fill up these shows. Now, you've got to come
up with what can we talk about? What do people care?
I mean, there's a lot of sports to talk about.
A lot of these shows only talk about a couple
of different topics, And therefore they become even bigger and
bigger and bigger because you're constantly going with, oh, is
(12:14):
Lebron going to win another title? The Cowboys are they
going to win a title? Dak Prescott's contract like it
just it's the same thing. You're you're in an echo
chamber and you're kind of saying the same things day
in and day out. Therefore it becomes bigger. It feels
like Josh and Philly, Hi, Josh, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (12:34):
Good morning, jan Patrick?
Speaker 2 (12:35):
How are you good? Josh?
Speaker 14 (12:38):
Without taking up too much of your time, I was
hoping I could ask you two questions, Okay, one more,
I guess, just an opinion on the rookie segment you
were talking about, where I would feel that if the player,
say he was in the NBA the first year and
he got injured right away and didn't have any stats
at all, and then came back the second year. I mean,
(12:58):
to me, I could say that that was rookie.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, that's how I feel, okay.
Speaker 14 (13:04):
And then also, I know you've had him on your
show before, Doug Doug Gottlieb, So I guess he's coaching
going to coach a college basketball team and do his
radio show at the same time, And I was just wondering,
if you think that's kind of like unfair to the students.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Well, I told him, you know, you got to be
careful because if you're not winning and you're still doing
your show, the people are going to say, shouldn't you
be working on your team game plan? Recruiting goes along
with the territory. It does give him a little bit
of an advantage to have a national platform, but you
got to be careful of what are you allowed to
(13:41):
talk about now you represent a university. Now it's not
just you're representing Fox Sports Radio. And I think Doug
has got to be careful in what he says, how
it's interpreted, and how much time you're putting into.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Your radio show.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, it feels like a good time to mention that
we have a YouTube page where you can go check
out interviews that we did, like the one you did
with Doug discussing that very topic.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Yeah, go to YouTube and you can see all the
videos there discussed it right with coach himself. Yes, I did.
Coach Gottley, Wisconsin, Green Bank. We'll take we'll take a break.
We'll talk to Xanders Shoftley after this.

Pollie Foosco here with Tony Fusco, you know, as the
host of the number one rated Paully and Tony Fusco show.
We get tons and tons of fanmail every day.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Piles of it.
Speaker 15 (14:36):
In fact, Tony, why don't you open up one of
those letters right now and read what's inside?
Speaker 16 (14:40):
O heay, listen to this. Dear Paulie and Tony, your
sports takes the dumbest and most terrible that.
Speaker 15 (14:46):
Wait, why open this other one.
Speaker 16 (14:48):

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Wait, try this one.

Tony Fusco Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or

Speaker 2 (15:08):
The freshly minted PGA champions Sanders Shotley back on the program, Congratulations.
How much of this is joy? How much of this
is relief? That's a it's a mixed bag. I'd say
relief shortly after? UH been waking up pretty happy ever since. Well,
(15:32):
I understand that you're waking ahead after you've won the title, though,
But what's it like though when somebody said, man, there's
the best golfer's never won a major's.
Speaker 7 (15:41):
I mean, that's sort of the conversation I would have
in the mirror with myself, to be completely honest. So
I was saying that before everyone else was, So, you know,
it was unfortunate the media picked up on what I
was thinking.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
But what was your answer? If you're talking to yourself
in the mirror.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Just just to hang tough, you know, you gotta be
resilient at times, stubborn at times. And I have those
traits ingrained in me and I definitely put them to
use to UH. To whether the storm of not really
winning a whole lot in the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
How did the nerves ran? How nervous were.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
You that last put I was nervous. I'm not gonna
lie I was, but I was surprisingly more calm than
I thought. You know. I think I kept saying, you know,
I knock on the door till you knock it down.
And I had so many close calls, and I think
all those moments sort of hardened me for that final moment,
uh to sort of walk up eighteen and and and
(16:36):
be cool and calm in that moment. So it's you know,
all those close calls definitely paid off, and I was
able to put them to use, which was nice.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
You put a little patial on that putt, though.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
I told myself at the beginning of the day that
just get the ball of the hole, you know, on
on on a lot of my sundays, when I look
back at some film, there's a lot of I've hit
a lot of good shots, I've executed a lot of
good shots. There's a lot of hesitation and just getting
it done. And so the greens are a little bit
slower because of the rain. And it was something I
consciously told myself is to be aggressive. It's going to
(17:11):
take a low score because people are shooting nothing, and
you know it was. It was an interesting Major Sunday,
just in the fact that I had to shoot seven
hundred or six hundred to win. But being aggressive was
something I told myself when I woke up, It's something
I need to do.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Speaking of the scores, are you okay with somebody winning
a major twenty one under par like? Was the with
the scores too low for a major?
Speaker 7 (17:34):
In your opinion?
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yeah, I don't blame you hug the trophy.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
But it's there's there there. It's it's tough.
Speaker 16 (17:47):
You know.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
You pick out an incredible venue like Valhalla, it's got
that championship feel, it's a massive property. It allows for this.
I looked up on eighteen and I looked around and
I was like, holy smokes, there's a lot of people here.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
You know.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
It was like something that one of the cooler things
I've ever seen. And then how quiet it got right
before I hit my putt was something so crazy as
well that I really haven't talked a whole lot with
other people outside of my own circle. But when the
weather comes through and you know, it's foggy, it's it's humid,
it rains, and then you add in the fact that
(18:20):
it wasn't very windy. You know, I don't care how
much equipment, subair people you have trying to get fans
on the course. It's just it is what it is,
you know. So I think for fans, you know, at
least it was very I hope it was very entertaining,
and it was very dramatic. That's like the least we
can offer from our sport.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Do you imagine that that's your first that Jack did
that eighteen times and Tiger did it fifteen times? Yeah,
Like that's crazy, isn't it. But everything you've gone through
as good as you are, and you got one, and
then all of a sudden, Tiger can walk by and go, yeah,
you got fourteen to go.
Speaker 7 (18:59):
Yeah no, uh, it makes it feel pretty small pretty
quickly when you compare yourself to the best that I've
ever played the game, No doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
He's Xander Schoffley. I know you don't get too emotional,
but I think your your dad gets emotional, but he
wasn't there. And then I think you talked about it
at the press conference that you called him right before
you're going to go get the trophy. Uh I was wondering,
you know, how that was going to affect you as
you're going out there. You didn't want to be crying
for posterity. You know, history is going to show you,
(19:29):
you know, just big tears out there. What was the
phone call like to Dad?
Speaker 7 (19:34):
Yeah, I mean, I'm a grown man. I'm not afraid
to show shows, show some tears when when it's right,
you know what I mean, it's it's all good. But uh,
I was, I mean I was actually when Austin came
in and gave me a big hug. I mean, I
think both of us were more emotional than we thought
we would be. I think it was just this big,
this big build up for us, and we've just we've
kept our head in the sand and just kept our
head down for so long that everything just kind of
(19:56):
came out and it was like, holy smokes, Like I
am way more emotional than I thought I was ever
going to be. And so when I called my dad,
I mean I would have bet that at the farm
that he was going to be crying. And so but
as soon as I heard his voice, and you know,
I started talking to him I was immediately like, I
have to I gotta hang up. I can't continue this
phone call for more than a minute or I'm gonna
(20:17):
start crying here on the phone. So it was, and
then I called my mom like half an hour later,
and then she started crying again, and I was like,
holy smoked on TV again. So it's like, I need
to talk to you guys in a little bit.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
He's the winner of the PGA Championship. Xander Schaufley back
on the program. When you win, is it direct deposit
for the check?
Speaker 7 (20:39):
Typically? Yeah? Yeah, on Tuesday, Tuesday usually, so today you're
getting the check today? Yeah, today's or for on the
PGA Tour. That's normally how it happens with major championships.
You know, it's different. It's different how they go about it.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Do you check your ADM? Like, how does this work?
Speaker 4 (20:57):
I have not.
Speaker 7 (20:58):
Checked checked my bank account. I have not to be
completely honest.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Are you do you retire the outfit that you wore
on Sunday?
Speaker 7 (21:08):
I pushed, I watched some highlights. I really wanted to
win in that outfit. I wore it on Sunday. At
RIV didn't win, I wore it. I think at the
player didn't win, and so you know, everyone's kind of
got their thing. I mean, it's just one of my
favorite shirts that I wear from Descant right now, and
it's comfortable and I liked it, and you know, it's
got a little bit of color compared to everything else
(21:29):
I'm wearing right now.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
So yeah, but what are you gonna do? Like, you're
gonna put that on a mannequin and not wear it anymore.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
I'm sure my mom will. My mom will want to.
My parents usually are like the safekeepers of my trophies.
I'm actually shocked this one's here with me right now.
It's only because I'm in Florida.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Uh does the top open on that trophy?
Speaker 9 (21:47):
Well?
Speaker 7 (21:47):
How are you gonna drink out of it? My man?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
What's been in there in the past forty eight hours?
Speaker 7 (21:54):
Yeah, probably like three or four different kinds of alcohol
and lips.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Who to sip out of it?
Speaker 8 (22:01):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (22:02):
My team? My team?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Also, no other golfers, no, no.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
I I was able to have a few friends there,
like caddy for other players, and I was like, I
was like, you guys aren't drinking out of this. I
was like, you guys can drink out of something like
this when your player wins wins a tournament, like, I'm
not going to hold this over your guys's head. So
everyone on my team and my family that they drank
out of it.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Well, that's like the Stanley Cup. It's been a lot
of different places and seeing a lot of different things,
but this is it. It was like a one spin
here with forty eight hours where everybody got a chance
to see it and then goes back home.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
Well once it goes to the West coast. You know,
I'm kind of an old soul now in order to
be get at golf, it's hard to go out and
party and rage too hard. So my parents, though, they're
probably going to play around time with this thing, and
I'm sure they're going to use this thing way more
than I did.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
And promise you that do you have a trophy case
big enough for that? That's a big trophy.
Speaker 7 (22:57):
This is actually a ninety percent replica. Want to Maker
is ten percent bigger than this, So this is actually
smaller and a little bit lighter.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
It's heavy, though, did your caddie leave during the tournament?
Did my caddie leave?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Who was theer?
Speaker 7 (23:18):
Sky left? Okay, okay, sorry, it's classic mix up.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Well, I'm sure Showflee and Scheffler and it happens, except
for what happened on Friday. But what how did you
hear that about Scotty when somebody told you this is
what happened.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
Yeah, I woke up. My wife showed me an article immediately,
and I was like, I was like, it has to
be a prank, you know, And then you know, we
turned the TV on and it wasn't a prank, And
then you know, we found out someone passed. There was
a fatal accident, and then it was raining, and I
knew how hectict was getting in out of the course,
and so it felt like it could have happened to
any one of us. And Sky is a great dude.
(23:58):
I really hope he, you know, comes out I clean.
He doesn't really deserve to have those charges on his record.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Are you playing this week?
Speaker 7 (24:06):
I am not. You're spent, Thank goodness.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Well you got to sober up, and you're probably mentally
physically exhausted as well.
Speaker 7 (24:16):
Yeah, for sure. I don't drink often, so definitely was
a little bit bruised waking up, But you know, I
was on like three and a half hours asleep, and
I woke up just wide awake and happy. So it's
you know, I'm definitely gonna like crash hard here very soon.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Congrats great golf and happy for you and thanks for
joining us, Skin.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
Thank you, thanks for having me all right.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
At Sanders Shoftley, winner of the PGA Championship. Yeah. You
don't want to say, hey, the scores, you know, the
course was too easy. But I wonder with the golfers
when you're playing in a major that we're so used
to having it be like, hey, somebody's six under and
they win the tournament, not twenty one. You know, the
(25:00):
US Open usually they want to make it really, really difficult,
and you know British Open sometimes depending on the course
or the weather, the Masters sometimes as well. But you know,
the PGA revolves as well, so different venues, and I
think it's one of those where the weather was conducive
(25:21):
and I kept thinking if they had more rain or
wind than maybe, but uh, it was optimum scoring weekend
for everybody. There A couple of phone calls in here
Nate and Colorado. Hey Nate, what's on your mind.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
Morning, gentlemen? Glad you could get through to me this morning. Yep, yep, Hey, CP,
you've got to get Sandler to get Tiger in that movie, because,
just on the off chance that YouTube could be standing
on the range in between takes, if you could look
at Tiger and go, hey, you know you're gripping that club.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Thanking date.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yeah, Well, if I told Ray Allen I didn't like
the position of the ball in his hand, maybe I'd
be looking at Tiger and saying, you know, coming over
the top there, yeah, a little bit, you know, I
like that left hand cupped a little bit more. You
don't want you to have a little bit more lag
in your swing?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
There?
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Sean and Indy, Hey, Sean, what's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (26:22):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (26:23):
What's happening in DP?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (26:24):
But I was listening to your conversation earlier about the
Dead Mom's Club and figured, if you do choose to
go down this road, we could have an annual run
a five k or something for the Dead Mom's Club
and we could call it run DMC.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Okay, Yeah, I'm not ready to embrace the Dead Mom's Club. Yeah,
it just feels cruel. It's just I don't know, it
doesn't have the kind of tongue in cheeks sense of humor,
raising a toast of dad dead. Dad's club like mom different,
Mom's off limits. I mean, don't say anything about mom.
(27:03):
Heck yeah, Gary and Iowa Hi Gary, Hey Dan.
Speaker 17 (27:10):
Dan, thanks for calling me. Hey, I got a sports
uniform suggestion. Maybe Todd Fritz love this one now hear
me out women's college volleyball shorts.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Thank you, goodbye, Thank you so any uniform with women's
college volleyball.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Duke and Boise. Hey Duke, what's on your mind?
Speaker 18 (27:36):
Hey Dan? Thanks taking the call six' one two fifteen.
You guys were talking about the uniforms and some of
the worst changes ever. Somebody mentioned the Mariners going to
the Teeal. I would just like to offer up in
general Seattle as the most horrific changes of all time.
The Sonics going from that classic clean white and green
(27:58):
to whatever it was they made Gary Katon and Sean
kemp ware, the Jim Morra junior days of the Seahawks
that reboked travesty, and the Mariners finally somewhat gotten back
on track. But Seattle as a whole, you guys got
to do better.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Man, Well, they got the kracking now.
Speaker 18 (28:19):
Those are awful as well.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Okay, Duke, I love my cracking sweatshirt. Here Scott and Illinois. Hey, Scott,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (28:30):
All right?
Speaker 9 (28:30):
Dan?
Speaker 3 (28:30):
First time, long time six to five brick.
Speaker 11 (28:35):
Hey, as probably as pressure you got it?
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Figure that the Yankees from the Bad News Bears. I
mean the dad went out and whacked the kid pitching
in the middle of the game.
Speaker 9 (28:46):
He loses that. Lord knows what's gonna happen when he
goes home.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
All right, Well, Bad News Bears a little pressure there.
Vic Morrow was the manager manager for the other team,
went out there and yelled at his son and then
his son held the ball. Very d I don't want
to ruin the ending of Bad Newspairers, but dramatic moment there.
Speaker 12 (29:07):
Yes, when the mom walked off, all I can think
of was, Okay, Dad, I see what you're doing. I
respect you because mom was a fox.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
The mom yeah in that time, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah,
she was hot.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Okay, yeah, you're just kind of looking at.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Me like, yeah, well, I didn't know where you were
going with it.
Speaker 12 (29:30):
I respected the manager for his decisions and picking a
partner back to you, DP, all right, oh sorry, DP,
one more thing, Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, you know what
what As far as dads and moms are concerned, You're
right as far as we hold moms near and dear
to our hearts because the fact that we use your
mama jokes, and that could start a fight if somebody
(29:52):
says your daddy, someone says okay, so.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Well, I do have my bathrobe that says daddy on it.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Oh, that's a whole different convo, Fritzy.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Oh, you know those sonic uniforms that Gary Payton had
had sonics, you know, across the chest and then had
the yellow numerals that looked pretty good. And those were
good teams too, Peyton, Sean Kemp, Dead Left Shrimp, Nate McMillan.
(30:26):
That was a good team, fun team, Seattle, great city too.
All right, Well, take a break. Reggie Miller will join

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Reggie Miller will stop my tomorrow in the program. Got
some emails, phone calls, and I have this Freddie Freeman
with a grand slam last night. Two balls, one strike,
so Cony to Freeman, high in the air, centerfield, hit deep,
Harrol's out the wall.
Speaker 10 (31:36):
It is gone, Hey Graham Twain for Freddie Freeman.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
That's courtesy of AM five seventy KLEC Home with the Dodgers,
Home of the DP Show and Freddie Freeman. You're starting
to see articles now. I just saw one on the
Mothership and that is that. Do the Dodgers and o'tani
maybe look at this and say, this is a Babe
Ruth kind of moment. He's batting, I think might be
(32:04):
up to three fifty three something like that, And do
you look at him and go, maybe we just make
him one dimensional, Maybe we don't run the risk of
him hurting his arm elbow again, and you make him
a full time hitter, because that's what happened with Babe Ruth.
Babe was a pitcher and then they realized that he
(32:25):
was a great hitter, and then he stopped pitching altogether
and then became one of the greatest hitters of all time.
And Otani batting average wise, this is extremely high for him,
but he's got the power, and maybe you get to
that point where you go, let's make him one dimensional
and try to make him the best hitter in baseball
and one of the greats of all time. But I
(32:46):
saw ESPN had a story on that, because we're eventually
going to get and I keep thinking that if you're
the Dodgers, how good is your pitching staff that you
can say to Otani, we're just going to have you
be a hitter. But this is something that we brought
up a couple of weeks ago, because it will come
up if he has one of those incredible magical seasons.
(33:08):
Do you say, is he better off or we better
off with him being just everyday hitter not just every
day hitter and sometimes pitcher. Let's see, this is from Shannon.
Just want to let you guys know one of our
dogs is named after Fritzi two. We got him back
in February of twenty twenty three. I've been watching the
show for a decade. Cool to know there's somebody else
(33:30):
out there who named their pet after Todd. Have a
great day, Shannon, Oh Todd, How about that?
Speaker 4 (33:35):
It's very flattering.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Some people offering up great uniforms the Detroit Red Wings,
Jersey Timeless. Absolutely, there's a lot of them. But I
keep making the case, not that I need to that.
A lot of times we identify a great uniform with
a great team. When's the last time you looked at
a uniform and you go, I don't care how good
the team is, those uniforms are awesome. Did you think
(33:59):
the Toronto Wraps or Vancouver whatever they were, Grizzlies, were
they great uniforms? They weren't great teams, but did we
look at those uniforms?
Speaker 4 (34:11):
Go man?
Speaker 9 (34:12):
Now?
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Then all of a sudden the Raptors win a title
and you go okay, and I'm like, no, they're still
not good.
Speaker 12 (34:17):
Yes, Mark Vince Carter came into the league wearing those
goofy uniforms. Then he had the rookie year he did,
and they were like, no, no, no, we have to change this.
We can't look this stupid with this type of player
on our team.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
No way.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Yeah, but don't you identify a great uniform? Usually means like,
the Steelers have a great uniform. Why because they're great franchise.
The Cowboys have a great uniform. They used to be
a great franchise. It's all right, it's pretty good. It's
pretty good. Packers, Packers had success, Kansas City Chiefs, they
(34:52):
look awesome.
Speaker 9 (34:54):
You know.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
The Bengals didn't look good growing up. Then all of
a sudden they started winning and they go to a
Super Bowl. Go, I don't like it. Joe Burrow's wearing it.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
All right, they start winning, It's like, man, when are
they gonna get better uniforms?
Speaker 12 (35:08):
Yeah, Marv Pittsburgh best uniform city. Yeah, all black and
yellow for all three proteins.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Uniformed city.
Speaker 9 (35:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
Okay, the Pirates haven't been good and I don't know
how long, it doesn't matter, doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Okay, but Dodgers Lakers USC.
Speaker 12 (35:27):
But maybe I'm going I'm going off of all of
them are black and yellow. Yeah, okay, and they all
look good too.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
But is it easier to do the same color combination
or do what the Lakers did and the Dodgers did,
USC did the LA Kings like the best city collectively
with uniforms?
Speaker 12 (35:48):
No, if you're if you're a Pittsburgh you can wear
like a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and a Pittsburgh Pirates hat
and you're all good.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
I know, I know this is big for you. You
love your wardrobe starts from the from the shoes up.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
That's right. You don't build a house with the roof,
you build it with the foundation.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yes, Todd, Boston, Philly, in Chicago or.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
If they're right there.
Speaker 12 (36:09):
I'm not saying they're necessarily the best, but those are
I think among with you go look at all the
major teams.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Those are some culture.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
I don't think the Red Sox or anything special.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics all in the same.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Uh, same town.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Yes, yes, I hesitate to bring this up of our audience.
Are the LA Lakers uniforms a lovely uniform color combination?
Speaker 4 (36:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Or bore?
Speaker 6 (36:32):
Do we think they're great because of their history a
success and I mean fifty years of success in that
type of uniform. Because if you just held it up
and said, look at this color combo, what do you
think of it?
Speaker 10 (36:42):
But you know what it was?
Speaker 2 (36:43):
It looked great. Was showtime. Yes, Like if the Celtics
had to wear that, Larry Bird had to wear that uniform,
that would not be a good look. But the Lakers
looked like those uniforms belong with the style of the Lakers.
And even going back to Jerry West and Wilt and
Elgin and they just there was something about they looked la.
(37:05):
It was flashy, it was shiny, it was la. It
was something about it. I mean, you can make a
case the Dodger uniform is the best uniform in all
the sports. You would have a hard time having somebody
pick apart that because there it's just gorgeous. And if
you go to a day game at Dodger Stadium, and
(37:27):
I mean it just there's nothing like it. It's just
so clean. That white is different, Yes it is, Yes,
it is.
Speaker 9 (37:34):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (37:35):
Pauline Otani and the Angel's uniform looked like a star.
In the Dodgers uniform, he looked like a superstar. Yeah,
he looks like a world famous.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Well, he looked like a baseball player in an Angel uniform.
He looked like a Hall of Famer in a Dodger
m R. Yeah, I got my Don Mattingly autographed jersey back.
Remember every time he got thrown out, he'd send me
an article of clothing. So he said, he sent me
his pants, He sent me theer, sent me the hat.
(38:02):
I didn't know what else was left except for his
sock shoes and jockstrap. Do managers wear a jockstrap? I
don't think you would. You wouldn't wear like briefs, would you.
I don't know, habit, Yeah, I don't know. I mean
those uniforms can be a little snug, you know what
(38:22):
I mean? Yes, morn Michigan football. I just want to
put that out there too. Uniforms.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
Uh is it helmet more so helmet? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Okay, yeah, but it's clean. Yes, I love it. I
hated it growing up, just because it meant a terrible
Thanksgiving because Michigan was going to beat Ohio State, And
then I grew to love just the colors of it
look great, that's all right. Notre Dame iconic. Yeah, but
they've changed they've changed a few times. Hey, we got
(38:51):
a big game, let's get a new uniform here. Nothing
signifies a Notre Dame loss. Then we're breaking out the greens. Yeah,
I'm bringing out the green.
Speaker 7 (39:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
This day in sports history.
Speaker 6 (39:06):
Paul The Federation International analel Day Football Association FIFA was
founded in.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Nineteen FIFA governing Marty and.
Speaker 6 (39:13):
Nineteen ninety six, Ken Griffy Junior became the eighth youngest
player to hit two home two hundred home runs.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
I got one for you that I don't remember it happening,
But nineteen eighty eight, these two faced off to decide
the NFL's Fastest Man competition. Paulie Darryl Green herschel Walker
Darryl Green not herschel Walker. Yes, oh manal No, I'm
(39:42):
not going to count that. I gave you the Marvin.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Tim Brown.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Back row.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Me and Myas sounded good to me.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Were you await time?
Speaker 4 (39:56):
No, Ronaldo and Myas is one of the names I
thought of him, thinking of some kind of tracks on
the pl.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
This guy changed positions, blew out his knee, played on
one of the teams we just mentioned. Great uniforms played
at Purdue, Rod Woodson you forget how fast Rod Woodson
(40:21):
was and then he blew out his knee on turf.
Let's see go around the room. What we learned on
the program?
Speaker 10 (40:28):
Todd?
Speaker 2 (40:29):
What did you learn today?
Speaker 12 (40:30):
Of the top fifteen paid players in the NBA, the
only one still alive in the playoffs is Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
Rudy and the Go Bears. Seeton, What did you learn today?
Parents are not there? Yeah, dad was in Hawaii, Marvin.
What did you learn on today's program? Xander's not afraid
to cry. No, but I can understand that you're calling.
You got to call your dad and your dad starts crying.
You got to go out and do the press conference,
get the trophy. You don't want to go out there
and be a mess. Paulie. What did you learn today?
(40:57):
Chet is still a rookie. Chet holmegrun rookie.
Speaker 10 (41:00):
Todd?
Speaker 2 (41:00):
What did I learn today?
Speaker 4 (41:02):
Jamal Crupper says Kyrie is the kind of ball handler
with a top town. The league look at him and say,
how did he do that?
Speaker 2 (41:06):
