Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Caught up with Drew Brees yesterday after the show, will
bring you that interview coming up here in a moment.
Jason in North Carolina, Hi, Jas, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
What's going What's going on DP? What's going on? Fella's
Happy opening Day? Six feet a firm two hundred. I
wanted to get your guys' opinion on something. Everyone's talking
about Rock Party possibly commanding you know, the big sixty
mil number next year. And with all the high priced
(00:36):
guys on the Niners squad at the moment, everyone's assuming
that the team will get broken up and this, that.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
And the other.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
But I'm curious about what your guys' opinion on you know,
I know, from an agent's perspective, you want to get
your guy the most money he could possibly get. But
if I'm Rock Party sitting here, gonna be I guess
twenty four And I'm looking at Trent Williams, I'm looking
at George Kittle, I'm looking at you know, CMC Debo.
I'm looking at these older players, Fred Warner still playing
(01:06):
at the top of their game. Why wouldn't I you know,
work out, assuming that I'm going to play a long
time in my career, take a little bit less upfront,
keep these guys around, try to win more, and then
you know, you know, if he does that, I know
the Bay Area will love him forever and all the
kind of love and money will come to him in
(01:27):
time and success and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, I look at what Jalen Brunson did with the Knicks,
and that was one where you're trying to wrap your
head around it that he left one hundred million dollars
on the table, But I think he delayed the hundred million.
He wants to build a championship roster. That's what great
players do. You become greater because you win championships. I
(01:51):
don't want to tell Brock Perdy not to take more
money or take his take the max, but I do
think there has to be sort of a should he
be the highest paid quarterback.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
In the league. No, but he's probably going to be.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Dak Prescott shouldn't be the highest paid quarterback, but he
probably is. That's why I love what Baker Mayfield did
with Tampa Bay. They found common ground that Baker's not
a fifty million dollar guy, you know, so you find,
you know, like a good landing spot that you get
paid and you get a chance to still have a
good roster around you because you can get paid. And
(02:27):
if you don't have a roster you're gonna have your
life is going to be miserable, except for you know,
every two weeks when you get paid.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
But is rock Perty going to get sixty million? He
probably is.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
And even like the numbers are great, he takes advantage
of the weapons he has, which is what you want
your quarterback to do. Is he going to Could he
turn around the Patriots? The answer is no. But is
he great for the Niners?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Yes he is.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Drew Brees won a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP.
And we caught up with him yesterday and uh, he's
in California. And I asked him where he was when
he joined us.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Honestly, I sat here and I said, I'm going on
with DP today. I've done this a bunch of times
with you. I know you've been to a lot of
interesting places super Bowls, you know, studio setups. Have you
ever done one on the beach in southern California?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
No, I haven't, but so it looks good. I mean,
anybody recognized you on the beach.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Uh you know, it's a little hazy out we're just
kind of paper walking their dogs.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
We got some surfers out here. Let's check them out,
you know. Okay, Cardiff, Cardiff, California.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
This is a good This is the river mouth right here.
That's a good little surf spot. We got some we
got some decent swell today.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Okay, we're going to play the Drew Brees. How many
Pro Bowls did he actually take a snap in? I
think you were in thirteen Pro Bowls? That sound about
ye yes, sir, Okay, how many snaps did Drew Brees take?
How many Pro Bowls did he take a snap in? PAULI,
I'll go to you.
Speaker 7 (04:06):
Drew is a really competitive guy. He probably bailed out
a few because of an air quote's injury. I'm gonna
go eleven, eleven, Marvin, I'm.
Speaker 8 (04:13):
Gonna go nine.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Todd, I'm gonna say eight. I'm gonna say twelve. Drew.
Speaker 6 (04:24):
Uh Man, I got to think back on this.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
I think I did not play in two, so it
would be then I took snaps in eleven.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Okay, that's pretty pretty impressive.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
One was one was one wash nine when we went
to the super Bowl because they did this well, that
was the first show they did, the Fire to the
Super Bowl, and then after the eighteen season.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
I did not play in that one, and there was
hitting back then, so.
Speaker 9 (04:52):
I just located my left EBow in the seven No
six pro bot after the succeeding Oh boy, that was
twelve sugs. Yeah, he got a little aggressive.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
And I've talked about this a couple of times.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Brady came out and said it's a tragedy that these
quarterbacks are coming in and starting right away and they
have to dumb down the offense. And I disagree because
they're coming in older. A lot of them have played
at a couple of different schools. All your recent Heisman
Trophy winners have played at a couple of schools. You're
coming in it feels like you already got money from NIL,
so you you've you've been a professional before being a professional.
(05:37):
So I don't I don't look at it the way
it was when Tom came in. I think it's different
your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Well, look, first off, I think the NIL and transfer
portal thing.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Is a bit of a disaster.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
I don't think it's giving kids the opportunity to truly.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Develop the way that they normally would.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
I think too often guys are in situations where if
they don't get what they want, if they're getting coached
too hard, or if they face a little bit of adversity,
they just jump ship. I don't think that's the message
that we want to send to young people, especially our
future leaders. I think, look, there's no better example than
(06:28):
the game we just saw on Sunday against LSU and USC. Right,
you got Milan Moss and Garret Usmeyer. Right, two guys
who have had to sit for a couple of years
at USC and LSU respectively, very easily could have transferred out.
Others did, right, and it bounced around quite a bit.
Those guys chose to stuck it out, stick it out,
(06:49):
sat behind a couple of Heisman winners playing for some
great coaches in some great systems. And then I thought,
those two guys played phenomenal the other night, and I think, honestly,
they're both going to have really, really good seasons. And
I would venture to guess if you sat there and
talked to him that they would give a lot of
credit to the fact that they stuck it out, and
(07:09):
they kind of weathered the storm, so to speak, and
they kind of bided their time and waited for their opportunity,
and now they're taking full advantage of it. I think
it gives you a lot of gratitude. You know, you
appreciate it more when you have to go through some
of those tough times. So I again, I think that's
part of the formula too. Look, you know there was
all this speculation about, you know, arch Manning, right, if
(07:31):
he didn't start right away, does he end up transferring that?
I think the best thing for arch Manning is to
stay right where he is. Yours is the guy. Yours
is going to have a great season. They're going to
be national championship contenders this year. And then arch Manning
is We're going to get his opportunity as a third
year player, and guess what, he's going to be ready, right.
So I hope the guys are watching and learning from
(07:53):
some of the examples that are being set by some
of these other guys.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
What would Patrick Mahomes have to do to, in your mind,
be better than Tom Brady?
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Well, look, you got to look at the body of work, man,
body of work of Tom Brady right twenty three NFL seasons.
I don't know how many AFC championship games, but ten
Super Bowl appearance's seven Super Bowl wins, right, periods stop
into discussion, right, So, and the consistency I think year
in and year out, right, I mean, what the Chiefs
(08:29):
and what Patrick Mahomes are accomplishing is remarkable. There really is.
I mean, I think they're a better team on paper
right now than they were last year and the year before. Right, So,
as they go for an unprecedented third championship run, I
think we're all sitting back saying, man, I can't wait
to watch it happen. Right, And would that put him
in a whole new stratosphere. Yes, from the perspective of
(08:54):
three in a row, it's never been done before. But
to me, you still have to put together the body
of work, body of work to do it for twenty
three NFL seasons like Brady did.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Is remarkable.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
When you guys, after you'd won your title, trying to
repeat the following season, what was the biggest obstacle?
Speaker 6 (09:14):
I mean, look, expectation, right.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
The way I always felt like with expectations was there's
no expectation that can be put on us from the
outside that is greater than the expectation.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
We have for ourselves.
Speaker 10 (09:26):
Right.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
And if you approach every day like you always have
something to prove and you are only as good as
your next performance, then you're not worried about the noise
from the outside. You just focus on each and every day.
How can I get better?
Speaker 6 (09:41):
How can I be the.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Best leader I can be? How can I get the
best out of my teammates? And you expect adversity. I
think you have to expect challenges and expect adversity and
you embrace it. You embrace it as an opportunity to
get better. Like I kind of get worried if things
were too good, you know what I'm saying, Like you
just of waiting for the shoot to drop. It's not
(10:02):
that you're pessimistic, but it's like, man, we have to
be prepared for the challenges and and know how to
overcome that adversity and recognize that's going to help us.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Get to where we want to go.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
And without it, we we wouldn't have been able to
get there.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
What's your Super Bowl pick?
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Well, let's let's first just take Let's just take the
two maybe the favorite, right, So you've got ac on
one side. You probably have to night the right.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
I think I think Philly is going to make another
run at it.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Right, they have their they have their Super Bowl you
know storybooks season, lose to the Chiefs in a close game,
and then they kind of have that that downward, you know,
super Bowl hangover year, and so they're going to come
back with a vengeance.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
I'm sure. So they're going to be a contender. Look, man,
uh I love C. J.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Stroud and Demiko right, and that Texans team. Man, I
think they're building some At some point, Lamar Jackson is
going to be and tired of hearing about the Chiefs.
I'm sure he already is right, he can't make a statement, right,
So that's kind of the AFT picture, the NFC picture.
(11:18):
He was gonna knock off the Niners, right, I don't know,
it's uh. I think they're certainly the favorite. I think
they still have all the pieces in place. I think
they're sick and tired of getting to the big game
and and and not quite being able to to get it.
I'm sure they'd love another crack of the Chiefs times
in charm.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Tell us what you're doing with Sports Illustrated tickets?
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Yeah, Sports Illustrate ticket sign.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
I am an investor, I am an ambassador, I'm a
believer in this ticket platform. It is a fan first
ticketing platform. We're part of the NFL Ticket Network, one
of the very few companies that is we have a
very transparent process in the way that we ticket star fans.
The price that you see is the price that you get.
There's no hidden peace like the other platforms. We want
(12:06):
to be fan first, extremely transparent. We have tickets every
NFL game, tickets to every major concert, every major venue
and event around the country. So if you don't have
your NFL tickets this year and you want to get them,
go to sch tickets dot com.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
You got you covered.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Good to talk to you. I think you were on
Sports Illustrated cover eight times. That sound right, I think so?
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
That was by the way, that was a childhood dream, right,
I mean that was like the Wati's box cover Sports Illustrated.
Since you dreamt about as a kid, right, and so
have that opportunity and now be aligned with the brand
the way that I am.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
It's it's really a dream come true.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Good to talk to you. Enjoy the season, Thanks for
joining us. As always, you got to be peek.
Speaker 6 (12:51):
Thanks Man.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
It's former Saints quarterback future Hall of Famer Drew Breese
joining us from the coastline out there.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
He is our good buddy, Colt McCoy man. First time
we talked to Colt, he was still at the University
of Texas. He'd recently retired and he joined NBC Sports
Big Ten Football and he's on the road. It's Colorado
visiting Nebraska. He'll be there with Paul Burmeister and Catherine
tappan sideline reporter coming up on Saturday night, seven point
(13:58):
thirty eastern on NBC in PA. All Right, speaking of
Colorado Cold, if you're gonna buy a stock, and I
gave you the two stocks, you could buy Shador Sanders
or Travis Hunter.
Speaker 10 (14:10):
Oh man, that's a great question. Uh who both of them?
Really really good?
Speaker 12 (14:15):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (14:16):
You know, I like to just see what my eyes see,
not listen to a lot of the things that are
that are going and just wash the tape. And you
look at what Shador has done h last year and
this year. I thought he played great last week. I mean,
guys are in his face, He's throwing balls in tight windows.
He's accurate, he's got full command of what they're trying
(14:38):
to do. But you look at Travis Hunter. You played
one hundred and thirty seven snaps. I think he's the best,
you know, best all around player in college football. And
when he plays receiver, he's dynamic. He creates separation, you're
stalling defense. On defense, he like you know, he makes tackles.
He's not afraid to like put his face in there
(14:58):
and be physical. But if I mean, I think I
think they're both probably first round picks. I think I
think Travis Hunter probably you know, goes as the probably
the best corner in the draft.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Can you play both? You know, both ways? In the pros?
Could Travis Hunter play offense and defense? And I'm not
talking about like ten plays on offense, but could you
play maybe seventy percent of the plays on offense and
then one hundred percent on defense.
Speaker 10 (15:26):
It'd be hard to do. I mean. The good thing
is he's his head coach, is the last one who
really truly did it right. He's so he's got a
he's got a playbook there. I'm sure that they've talked
about that. But I think just in today's NFL, I mean,
playing on either side is hard, right, and so I
think he's probably naturally more of a corner. But if
(15:46):
you really want to play receiver, he'd probably do that too.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Will you get to sit down with Deon Sanders before
Saturday Nights game?
Speaker 10 (15:54):
I think so Friday.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
What what do you want to know from Dion.
Speaker 10 (16:05):
Man? There's a lot. I think they're a better football
team than what they were last year, I really do.
I think I think the question that we all want
to know is, you know you've got all these transfers, like,
are these guys gel together. Are these guys, you know,
can they combine all their experience but just play as
a team? And Uh, for me, it's like the big
(16:29):
question is kind of O line, D line? You look
at their skill that they can score at any time.
I mean they had one play draft for eighty yards
and a touchdown right that they're they're explosive, but can
they hold up in protection? Can they run the football
a little bit better? And can they stop the run?
Because against Nebraska, you know, that's an experienced offensive line
that has probably two hundred and fifty plus starts together
(16:50):
and they're going to run the football. They ran a
fifty times last week, and so I guess my question
to him is like, you know, through the portal, have
you do you feel comfortable you know going into this game,
this rivalry in Nebraska, with your with the play of
your O line and D line.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Handicap the Big ten Ohio State looked good, but that
wasn't a you know, a legitimate opponent. Michigan was a
little sluggish. Here you got USC with a big win,
U U C l A, Oregon, Washington, Penn State.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
How do you see this playing out? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (17:25):
I mean, look, I think there was I don't ever
put a whole lot of stock into the first week.
I mean, there's penalties, there's situational football that gets messed up.
They don't have scrimmages in college, right, There's there's so
many things that you kind of just glanced by. But
I thought Penn State looked really good. I thought USC
(17:47):
played really well. Miller Moss looked like he's a seasoned
veteran situationally third downs, he made some big time throws.
I was just really impressed by him. You know, Oregon
looked a little shaky. Michigan looked a little shaky. I
think I think Michigan will settle in there. They've They've
got a very good defense and well coached. I mean,
(18:08):
wink Martin Dell. I used to have nightmares when we
had to play against him in the NFL. But Ohio State,
I think they'll be fine. Look, I think the Big
Ten is is really unique and that you you know,
you're east coast to west coast and there's a lot
of first time matchups. And you know, when I think
of Big Ten football, I think of the IWA was,
(18:28):
the Wisconsin's, the Michigan's, the Ohio States, these big Linemen
sort of will on you type teams, and then you're
you're bringing in the Oregans, the Washington's to spread them
out the speed, those types of So I just think
this year there's gonna be some really fun matchups across
the board.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
How weird is it that your alma mater is in
the SEC?
Speaker 10 (18:52):
It's kind of weird it's us in Oklahoma going to
the SEC.
Speaker 12 (18:56):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (18:57):
You know, I think we were probably a little bit
ahead of the curve when we started thinking about that
two or three years ago. Kudos to all those folks
who make those decisions, but it's still a little bit weird. Uh,
thinking that you're in the SEC.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
How do you do when you run into Oklahoma fans decent?
Speaker 10 (19:16):
I mean, they can't really say anything to me. We
were I mean, I we were. We did. We were
three and one and barely lost that one. That's the
one I remember the most. But that's such a great rivalry.
I Mean, the thing I'm excited about the most for
Texas going to the SEC would be that as a fan,
now we get you know, all of your rivalry games, right,
(19:40):
you get to keep the Texas Oklahoma game and the
Cotton Bowl, the a and m game comes back. That's
a home and home. That's such a great game for
our state. And you know, I grew up in Texas
and so I just remember every Thanksgiving that's the game
that you watch. It's it's it's so much fun. And
then the old Arkansas game, the Southwest Conference game, that's
a that's a big rivalry from back in the day.
(20:02):
And to know that those three games are on the
schedule every year, I think as a Texas fan, you
got to really appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Talking to Cole McCoy fourteen years as an NFL quarterback
now working for NBC. They're Big ten football analyst and
he'll be on the call with Paul Burmeister. That'll be
coming a Saturday night. It's Colorado and Nebraska. You were
two time Heisman Trophy runner up or finalist, finalist.
Speaker 10 (20:28):
I think I was runner up one time, but finalist, Yeah, bridesmaid.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Do you get anything for that? No? Like a certificate?
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Like?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Nothing?
Speaker 10 (20:39):
No? No? Maybe a T shirt. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
What's it like when you're sitting there and they're ready
to make that announcement of who's going to win the Heisman.
Speaker 10 (20:49):
You know, I think the first time I was there
my junior year two thousand and eight. We had a
really good year, a good football team. We ended up
losing one game to Texas Tech, like on a last
second play. So I and I played good, So I
felt like I really had a chance to win that
when I was a little bit disappointed, Uh, but that
(21:09):
was it was me and Bradford and Tebow and and
obviously Bradford was deserving of it. I mean he had
he had a great year too. And then I go
back the next year, my senior year, and I knew
that I had. You know, we were a different football team.
We had a lot of young receivers. We we kinda
we never really blew anybody out, but we we did
enough throughout the year, and it just it wasn't as
(21:32):
explosive or highlight plays as as it was year before.
And so I just really felt like we were a
good football team and we were gonna win the national championship.
But that I didn't think I was gonna win the
highst one. So I wasn't as disappointed the second time.
But honestly it was. It was really a fun trip.
It was the first time that you know, my family
and my folks and my grandparents ever been to New
(21:53):
York City, and so like we we soaked it up.
I mean, we we got to see all the sites
and and you know, they treated us really well. And
you know, looking back that that was a really fun,
fun time together.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
But you knew you weren't going to win.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
No.
Speaker 10 (22:10):
I thought I was going to win my junior year.
But I knew my senior year I wasn't going to win.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Who won that year?
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Mark ingram Oh, Okay, running backs don't win anymore, do they.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
It's a quarterback award pretty much.
Speaker 10 (22:25):
Pretty much. I think Travis Hunter, if we're talking about
the best player in college football, I mean, and I
don't want to talk about just one game, right, but
if he can sustain some of the things that he's
doing and making plays on both sides of the ball,
and I mean three touchdowns as a two A player,
he only touched the ball on offense like six times,
but he changed the whole game. I mean, we're talking
(22:46):
about the best player in college football. He's got to
be in that conversation with with the quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Okay, fourteen years in the NFL, the one pass that
you completed that you want your grandkids to see.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Oh wow. Uh is there one that stands out?
Speaker 10 (23:06):
Yeah, I mean there's several. I mean I have my
favorite throw to the quarterback and all that. But one
that I don't feel like people see very often is
though we're playing Indianapolis, it's uh, let's see, it's probably
two thousand, I can't remember. Fourteen fifteen. We're playing Indianapolis.
(23:27):
We run a keeper down in the red zone. The
game's kind of close, Andrew luck those guys end up
scoring forty points or something against US. I played all
right in the game, but we run a keeper and
it's I've got like three guys all around me. I
can hear Jay Gruden on the sideline stand throw it away,
throw it away, throw it away, don't take the sack.
And it's like and I just I kind of dodge somebody.
(23:50):
I spin out of another tackle. I make somebody mence
and I look up, like to throw the ball away,
and I see Logan Paulson about ten yards in front
of me, just standing in the end zone buying, waving
his hands. I pick it out there he's going to
touch and I turn around. I look at Jay and
I got I tried to throw and Uh, you know,
(24:10):
I don't see that play very often, but to me,
it was like it was one of those really fun plays.
It's like, how did you get out of that? Like what?
Like Houdini kinda. And I think someday it'll be fun
to show my son because you know, he's always wanting
to race. My girls are always wanting to race. I'm
and and they're pretty athletic. But I think that was
(24:31):
about maximum athleticism for me, and that'll be a fun
on the show.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
That was your Johnny Manziel moment.
Speaker 10 (24:37):
Yeah, I want to compare to Johnny Manziel, but it was.
Speaker 12 (24:41):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (24:42):
I still don't know how I did it.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Well, have fun on Saturday Night. Tell Paul, we said
hello and thanks again for joining us cold.
Speaker 10 (24:49):
Thank you, thanks for having me. Love your show.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Cole McCoy fourteen years as a quarterback and now working
for ENDBC. It'll be Colorado versus Nebraska Big ten saturd
seven thirty Eastern NBC in Peacock when we come back
super Bowl Picks.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio wapp.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Last call for phone calls what we learn once in
store tomorrow. I apologize we haven't had as many phone
calls as we normally do. We've been busy with some
other topics and time now for super Bowl picks. I'll
go around the room, then I'll give you my super
Bowl pick. So the Danauts have theirs, Todd, I'll start
with you. Your super Bowl pick for this year is.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
You're all gonna be disappointed because it's not very juicy.
Speaker 8 (25:42):
But I'm going the forty nine Ers beating the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Wow, that is crazy. Na, that's gutsy. Nobody's going out
on a limb like that Seatan. Can I ask a
question though you just did? Can I ask multiple questions? Yes?
Speaker 8 (25:58):
Right now? I am have. Yesterday one of my hot takes, Yeah,
was a super Bowl pick?
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Oh, so a legitimate Super Bowl?
Speaker 8 (26:08):
Am I allowed to do a non hot take super
Bowl pick?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (26:13):
I am sure. I'm going to have the Kansas City
Chiefs beating the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Okay, all right, little rematch super Bowl one.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
That's my pick?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
All right, two, Marvin.
Speaker 11 (26:28):
I'm going to have the Buffalo Bills beating the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Oh, my goodness. Now this isn't the hot take segment.
This is your actual take.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
In real life. It's forty nine ers, chiefs, Paulie, your
super Bowl pick.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
I have the Houston Texans losing to the Detroit Lions
in the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Okay, Yesterday after the show, I wrote down my super
Bowl pick and I left it on Paulie's desk. Now,
I've since changed one of the teams because I haven't
made the super Bowl pick official, and I'm disappointed in myself. Paulie,
(27:19):
if you want to read what my super Bowl pick.
Speaker 7 (27:23):
Was, Unfortunately, I went to bring in my armbudsman in
the back seat.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
Which is the super Bowl pick. The super Bowl pick
is whatever I say on the show.
Speaker 8 (27:33):
So it's not what's on that envelope that you gave.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
To paul No, no, no, maybe okay, depending on how
the super Bowl goes.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Yeah, see.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
Right on the sheet, on the folded up envelope. Oh man,
before I read it, would you stick with it? You
will go down. This will work out well for you
if it works out. After that advice, I'm gonna read it.
You have the Lions over the Jets in the super Bowl.
That is a fantastic Super Bowl programming wise, I.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Knew this is what keeps coming back is I said
I never bet against Brady. I'm at the point where
I never bet against my homes and it's right in
front of us. Kansas City to me, is better this
year than last year. But there's no upside to picking
the Chiefs. They can aboute yourself, my legacy, my legacy
(28:35):
boost in New York, well Detroit, I do.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
That's why your shill today. I'll stay with the Lions
over the Jets. How about that?
Speaker 2 (29:00):
I was going to take Kansas City and just because
they're right in front of me and they're as good,
if not better than last year. It's just it comes
down to there's luck involved, what kind of injuries are involved.
You know, the NFC North is really really tough division.
You know, now we're talking maybe the Vikings could make
(29:21):
the playoffs. We know Packers are really good. I'm just
hoping the Lions learn from last year how to close
somebody out when they need to. It's a really good team,
you know, that's both sides of the ball. And then
the Jets. I just I feel like it's either going
to be incredible incredibly great, or incredibly bad. But I
(29:46):
just get the feeling if they won seven games without
a quarterback. They won seven games without Reese Hall being
there for most of the season, So all right, we'll
stay with the Lions over the Jets.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Yes, Paul, this is as to me.
Speaker 7 (30:04):
This would be a top three or four Super Bowl
matchup you could put together if you were like the
networker for fan interest Lions Jets. The Lions have a
great story, the Jets have a great futility story. The
Bills would also be in that mix.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
So that's it. It's done. I grind over this thing thing.
Wait you did it?
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Wait stick stick with your guns Dish.
Speaker 8 (30:29):
Yeah, I did write it down it just stick with
your guns Dish.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Yes, we're framing this if it works out, okay, and
if not, we'll Yeah, I'll be framed.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
This day in sports history. Why am I doing Oprah today?
Speaker 8 (30:44):
Why not?
Speaker 13 (30:44):
I don't nobody nineteen o six, Oh no, you know
because Drew Brees was on Oprah's show years ago and
that's when she went Drew Brees and then he came
out and she thought he had like a smudge mark
on his cheek and that was his birthmark of Google
that one.
Speaker 8 (31:05):
That's one of the more awkward moments in television history.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yes awkward.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Oh my gosh, oh you got some sep if somebody
kissed you, you got a smudge mark on your Oh
it's a birth mark.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Now he handled it great.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yeah it was pro pro spro. Yeah, this dang sports history.
Speaker 7 (31:21):
Nineteen oh six, Brandberry Robinson of Saint Louis University was
recognized as throwing the first forward pass in football history.
Can you imagine that you're in the second quarter and
this guy Branbury just drops back and wings what you ever?
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Like, what the hell's going on? What is Bradbury doing?
This has to be against the rules.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yeah, Bradbury two three things? You know it could happen
and that that'll be bad. It could get intercepted or incomplete.
Speaker 8 (31:42):
Can you imagine playing football for years and years and
years and not thinking what if we threw this?
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Not yet nineteen sixty cash is played won the gold medal.
What about a face mask?
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Wait through it?
Speaker 2 (31:52):
You know what, Jack over there's got his nose broken
nine times. Yeah, that's a football player. The fact that
hockey player.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
We're like, nah, that face, that helmet, face soft, I'm
not playing not playing the game with it.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
No, that's crazy. Yeah, that's not how you play the game.
All right, what else do you have on.
Speaker 7 (32:10):
Casher Clay won the gold medal in Rome Jr. Richard
in his pro debut with the Astros The Picture in
nineteen seventy one, struck out fifteen batters and Dan. One
of our loves, Chris Everett, retired from professional tennis after
a nineteen year career in eighty nine.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
When we were when we went to Sportsman of the
Year a couple of years ago, there was a vibe
going on with Chris evert.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
It's like Fritzy's sister on steroids. Whoa you guys were there,
and I'm just saying.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
It was definitely thirty love and it was approaching forty love.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 8 (32:49):
Who That's something.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
In fact, when we were going, we were leaving, and
then she even said like we were going to be
leaving together. And then she said, maybe you leave a
little bit late or so it doesn't look like we're
leaving together. And I said, oh, we're not. Ah, just kidding, Todd,
what'd you learn today? You want to get rid of
the triple double expression of basketball? Getting it doesn't mean
you had a great game?
Speaker 4 (33:10):
See no counter. What did you learn today?
Speaker 8 (33:13):
The triple double doesn't mean you had a good game.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
How about you, Marvin? The Broncos defense was called a
no fly zone. Oh really tell me more? Todd need
to leave, TJ.
Speaker 6 (33:22):
Ward, Chris Harris, do not throw it in the secondary?
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Uh, Paulie, what did you learn? A lot of the
legacy boost? What did I learn today?
Speaker 6 (33:29):
A combined no.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Hitter isn't all that exciting, but comparing it to kissing
my sister is a questionable pole choice.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Well,
