(00:25):
Aaron Rodgers is going to the Steelers, and our long
awaited nightmares finally over as he's signed with the Steelers,
which I thought he had already agreed to in principle,
maybe a handshake deal, maybe just something verbally and said
I'll be there when you need me to be there.
And that is the start of June. I thought it
would actually happen today. It happened yesterday. We'll talk about that.
(00:47):
The ramifications for the Steelers and they're over under total
in Super Bowl odds. How much did they shift on
the news that Aaron Rodgers was going there? Eight seven
seven three DP show email Addressdpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle,

you care uh a pi guy, Yes, I'm more of
a pah you got.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
It, wealthy cape cod Dan.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
You're not going to branch out, noah. Just so you know,
there's a bit of a rumbling in the back room
that you're a bit of a oyster snop.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, No, I freely openately admit
oh yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely yes.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
But you're not you will eat other oysters.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I will, but I would prefer my PI Prince Edward Island,
you know, And I do love the kumamoto and the miyagis.
Just in case, you know, a little bit smaller, not
as briny back. I need a horse radish to go
along with my cocktail sauce, just to let you know. Yeah, yeah,
(02:42):
all right. So that's meat Friday here. Well, I have
a pole question, Play of the day, stat of the day,
all of that forthcoming. If you didn't stay up to
watch or listen, this is how it ended last night
in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Josas Alexanders Spins pulls up, jumper awful, won't go rebound in.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
The smith patience will a chance to win it. Haliburton looking, Haliburton.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Driving plus up.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
Jump shot Itit's go with three tons of a second,
vating time out. Okay, see Tyres Halliburton does it again.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Okay, Oklahoma City is winning this. They should have been
up by thirty. They were blowing out Indiana. Indiana could
not have played worse. And it's one of those situations
where I'm not saying that they didn't that they lost
the game during the first three quarters because they didn't
put Indiana away. They could have won the game in
the first three quarters if you follow my logic here,
(03:40):
that they would have been up by an insurmountable amount,
Whereas with Indiana, if they're down fifteen, okay, business as usual.
I've said this before. Teams that win by a large margin,
I'm always very leery of them when they get into
a one possession game. Now you're winning by thirteen points
(04:03):
per game, and I always go back to the UNLV
running rebels in the early nineties. They're blowing everybody out.
And I wondered, and I said this, I was working
with Bobb Lee on SportsCenter. What happens when they get
into a one possession game? If they do they got
into a one possession game against Duke, they had problems
(04:23):
with the inbounds pass, the play that was set up,
and Duke goes on to win the national title. I'm
not saying Indiana is going to win just because they
won last night. A lot of times we overreact to
game one. I go back to Allen Iverson getting forty
eight against the Lakers in Game one and winning in
LA and everybody was like, oh my goodness, I go no, no, easy,
(04:44):
here the seventy six ers aren't good and the Lakers
ended up winning, dominating, and Okasee is a better team,
like statistically a better team, But what happened. There's no
urgency last night. And give credit to Indiana, and give
credit to Rick Carlile because there has to be a
(05:06):
calming influence in that huddel has to be and that's
Rick Carlile. Not too high, not too low. The bench
will be Tappen, who played terribly and then had five
three pointers. But it's don't panic, and they didn't panic.
And even on the last possession. Now I'm screaming, waking
up everybody in the house, and I'm going with Halliburton
(05:29):
getting the ball, and I'm like, don't let him go right,
don't make him pass it, make him don't let him
go right now. I'm I picked Indiana to win the series.
I'm just doing this from a basketball perspective of don't
let the best guy beat you. Even though he played horribly.
Tyrese Halliburton has become one of the great clutch shooters
(05:52):
in NBA postseason history. The numbers back that up. They
let him go right. Caruso doesn't double, he falls back
on Pascal Siakam and Haliburton raises up and then seals it.
You let him go right, you don't double him. And look,
Pascal Siakam could have hit the game winning shot as well.
(06:14):
I would have been okay with that. I cannot let
the guy who has done this over and over and
over and over drives me crazy. And it just felt
like everybody was sort of floating up at the other
end of the floor. Here's Haliburton, got the ball and floating, floating, floating,
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick, And I go, oh,
(06:34):
my goodness, he's gonna get a jumper. You don't send
anybody at him, make him pass the ball to somebody else.
Halliburton has four game time or go ahead field goals
in the final five seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime.
This postseason brought you by Panini America, the official trading
(07:04):
cards of the program. Here is Halliburton on that game
winning sean.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
This game, if you look at all the numbers, it's
not the recipe to win. We can't turn the ball
over that much. We got to do a better job
of beating gaps, gotta do a better job of rebounding.
You gotta do a better job all over the floor.
But come May in June, it doesn't matter how you
get them, just get them, you know. So we'll take it.
You know, we'll enjoy this one tonight. But I understand
we got another game coming up in this tough building,
(07:32):
and we got to be prepared for that.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, they played horribly, and I guess if you're Rick Carlisle,
you're like, Okay, we can't play this bad can we again? Well,
you can't play this badly again and win again. I'm
gonna guess, but okay, see, you're just kind of floating. Hey,
Shay gild They felt like they were standing around watching
(07:54):
Shay Gilges, like, hey man, he's putting up a lot
of points. Here. These guys they're committing turnovers. They're not
any good. Then all of a sudden, it's like, all right,
chip away, chip away, chip away, chip away. Now all
of a sudden, that next possession is really important, and
Shay Gill just got the shot that he wanted. He
misses the shot, and then transition defense. I just can't,
(08:20):
for the life of me, can't understand why you let
Tyre's Haliburton have a shot.
Speaker 8 (08:26):
Yes, Martin Also, the Pacers had so many turnovers. Yeah,
and the thunder didn't take advantage of it. I think
they only got eleven points off of all of those
turnovers that the Pacers had last night.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Once again, they couldn't have played worse, but they won
the game, and they won the game. And okay, see,
in case you're wondering for entertainment purposes, the Pacers are
eleven point underdogs this time around. We talked about this
yesterday and if you're going to pick the Pacers to
win a game, it was yesterday, it was last night.
We see this, you know, that team struggling, scrape and scrapping,
(09:01):
and then you know, here we are game one. Meanwhile,
you've been waiting for your you know, your opponent to
come into town. And the Pacers came in and granted
they did not play well at all, okac should have
won that game by double digits. They were favored by
nine and a half. But the Pacers eleven point underdogs
at Okasee. But they've done what they needed to do,
(09:24):
and that is and look, there could be a gentleman sweep.
I mean there's there are probably a lot of people,
smart people, analysts who say Hey, ok see, you can
still you know, they can sweep this, they can win
in five and okay, probably can. They have the talent,
have the team. But at least the Pacers said, not
so fast. Maybe we only get parting gifts for being
(09:46):
in the NBA finals. We're going to make you work
for this. But that's inexcusable. It really is inexcusable that
you didn't go after them. And you know what their
mo is, I don't know why I'm yelling.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Well, you got to point.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
That you're up, what fifteen points with nine and a
half minutes. The bench for the Pacers is killing you.
And Halliburton was out of his mind the past month,
like you said, get it out of his hands and
risk the Pascal Siakam layup.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Someone else would rotate over nem hard like anybody. Miles Turner.
It can't be that guy. It can't. It's like when
Reggie was playing with the Pacers. Reggie is not beating me.
He can't beat me. Mark Jackson, Rick Smith's one of
the Davis brothers. Somebody other than that guy, and there
(10:36):
are a few of those that guys in the NBA,
and Halliburton has become that Yeah, seton.
Speaker 9 (10:43):
It is funny that you did come in like exasperated today.
I did, god, like, dang, dude, I didn't know that
you were like riding that harder. You just don't kind
and go right the one guy I know.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
But it's it's just the basketball purist in me. I'm
watching it, and even though I love that Indiana one,
I mean, I want this to be a competitive series.
You know these people who say, oh, there's no star power,
I'm not watching. I don't give a damn. Get the
hell out of here. Okay, the NBA is gonna be fine.
(11:20):
Off my lawn. Yeah, they're gonna be fine. I don't know. Okay,
don't watch, but this is ideal for both the NHL
and the NBA. You got an overtime win by Edmonton,
you had star power, and you had an unbelievable performance
at the end of the game. Wasn't a good game,
(11:40):
but it was a great finish.
Speaker 8 (11:42):
Yes, Marv, I love how angry you got because you
seemed like the guy I know, a guy I went
to school with. And I'm left handed. Obviously, you guys
know that I kept going left. He's left Marvin's left handed. Hello, Hello,
he's left handed. That was you, Like, guys, he's going right.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
You know that, right? You guys know that I got
afore seen left And even if he takes the joke
like I need, I have to force him into help,
that's all. And I don't want you going with your
strong hand there, that's all. And I don't want you
taking the shot. You're so mad, I was, I know
Fritzy goes. Damn, it's Friday, I go. I it doesn't
(12:20):
matter what day it is, So yes, Tom.
Speaker 10 (12:23):
Isn't there an argument to be made that, like, if
you're gonna lose to somebody, better make sure that their
best guy beats you. You can want one of these other guys,
even though they have very good players in their team.
You could make the argument that's like, if we're gonna
lose at the final seconds, we're not gonna let one
of their secondary guys beat us, the better be their
best guy that takes us down.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Wait, wait you what are you saying? I'm saying that
you're saying, let Halliburton not let the shond not let him.
Speaker 10 (12:47):
But is it easier to is it easier to swallow
that it's their best guy? We let one of these
other guys beat us, I'd.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
We let five seconds to go. No, So your logic
would be, hey, if Michael Jordan beats us, great, instead
of saying, make Steve Kurr John Paxson beat us.
Speaker 11 (13:08):
Yeah, we just lost the nemhard.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
I can't believe we let the Siakamar.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
No no no. I could never live with myself if
I said, oh, well, at least it was Jordan who
beat me. It was we didn't, you know what, give
them credit because we didn't let Michael take that shot.
We didn't let Larry Bird take the shot. We didn't
let Kareem take the shot. We didn't let Magic Isaiah.
The great players, I mean, that's why they're great. They
(13:34):
do make plays. But this felt like this could have
been prevented now. Obviously in the first three quarters or
deep into the fourth quarter, but if you look at
the transitions, it's very okay, all right, And I'm thinking
the games on the line, all he needs is a two.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I get.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
This can't be a game that feels like December. I
was just shocked, that's all. I was shocked.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Damn.
Speaker 8 (14:07):
All postseason, you've been saying the same thing.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I know, I.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
Just I.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
And you know the dan Ads sometimes just let me go,
like they just leave me alone. I'm talking to them,
but they're not. They're like, Okay, I gonna let him
get it out, all right, let me take a break here.
I gotta do it.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
Twenty I love Oh, good morning, DP, Marv. What I
know last night? Good morning?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah. I walk around a corner. I run into Marvin.
He goes, hey, DP, Marvin, what was that last night?
And He's like, what what? You can't let Haliburton meet
meet Friday.
Speaker 10 (14:51):
It's not good for the digestion to get old.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I know, I know, I know. All Right, we take
a break back, calm down a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
It's bringing Albert Breer. He's the Monday Morning quarterback senior
NFL reporter. How did you celebrate Aaron Rodgers news there, Albert.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Yeah, with a big sigh of relief. That didn't happen
on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Did you think it was going I thought it was
gonna happen on Friday. I thought it was gonna happen today.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
Yeah, I had a feeling that's gonna happen this week
because I know, Yeah, I don't think next week is
a drop dead deadline for the Steelers because they weren't
pushy with him, but I do think they they articulated
to him, Hey, it'd be important, you know, for you
to be here for that mini camp from June tenth.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
To the twelfth.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
So you know, if you're gonna if you're going to
take part in that mini camp, probably means you want
to get in at the end of the week. And
you know, as it turns out, he is flying there
on a Friday, so like it actually is happening on Friday.
It's just that the news got out on Thursday in
all likelihood because he had to plan to.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Get there on Friday.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
It's a short term fix, but it kind of kicks
the can down the road that this is this is
one year and yeah, that's what still surprises me that
they're all in for one year.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
So do you remember you and I sitting at the
Super Bowl and we were talking about Matthew Stafford and
I brought up the Steelers as a potential suitor for him,
And I think you know, it made some headlines.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
And people are like, WHOA, what do you mean, like
the Steelers would do that.
Speaker 6 (17:37):
Yeah, I kind of had an inkling that they had
this this discussion internally. They were never bringing Russell Wilson back,
and I think if they were bringing Justin Fields back,
they wanted to continue working with him, but it wasn't
necessarily going to be as a starter.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
And I really like kind of like as I looked at.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
Their situation and one of the reasons I used them
is like the perfect suitor for Stafford applies Rogers too.
They're so leveraged for right now, you know what I mean.
And if you look at like their roster, TJ. Wats
turning thirty one, Mika Fitzpatrick's turning twenty nine, Cam Hayward's
in the back end of his career. DK Metcalf who
they just acquired on his third contract. Now now he's
(18:17):
not old, but he has been beat up and again
on his third contract. They really are in this spot
where it's like if they want to win with the
core that they've.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Built, then it almost has to be right now.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
And yes, they're still chasing the mistake of taking Kenny
Pickett in the first round. But the way I look
at this is taking a quarterback in the first round
wasn't going to solve anything this year with this group.
I think the guys that you were looking at there
were developmental at best. Like you were probably looking at like,
all right, we can get the most out of guy
in twenty six or twenty seven, and that doesn't really
(18:53):
help you with the core that you have right now.
So if you wanted to get somebody for right now,
I think the question becomes, do you want to try
to hit a single or a double? And this is
no affront to these guys, you know, like a Daniel
Jones trade for a Kirk Cousins whatever it is, or
do you want to take a big swing for the fences?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
And I think that's what this is. It's like if
you want to win a super Bowl with TJ.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
Watt, if you want to win a super Bowl with
Minka Fitzpatrick, if you want to win a super Bowl
Cam Hayward, who's given your franchise so much over the years,
how are you going to accomplish that? And like, yeah,
there's a chance that you know, Aaron Rodgers gets hurt
or the age shows or whatever, it is, so you
might take that big swing and miss, but he's also
(19:37):
got the best chance of putting.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
One over the fence for you, you know.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
And so I think that's sort of the way the
Steelers viewed this as with this corps, you know, with
this short window that they have left with this core
of players, they couldn't swing for a single or a double.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
They had to swing for the fences.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Talking to Albert Breer the Monday Morning Quarterback, the Lions
off season pretty rough. You lose your coordinators, now you
lose your starting center. What does that do to you
in your eyes as far as being a Super Bowl contender?
If anything, tests you in a lot of ways.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
And look like I think part of this is that
they got the bonus year for Ben Johnson's This would
have happened gradually if Ben Johnson had went like sort
of through the natural order of things.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
But he really liked it Detroit.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
He thought he could be the extra year or two
of development could be useful for him, you know, And.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
So he stays the extra year.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
You could argue he stayed an extra two years because
he did have opportunities two years ago. So now you're
dealing with that all at once where you have attrition
both on offense and defense, you know, at the top
of the chart, you know, and then I, Frank Ragnow,
I'm not going to minimize that loss at all, like that.
He was a rock for them, a foundation piece for
them at a really important position, and you're taking that
(20:54):
out of what has been maybe the biggest strength strength
in the team over the last couple of years is
your offensive line. So I sort of look at it, like,
you know, you remember that those great giant defensive lines,
like they kept feeding that pipeline, right, like they kept
drafting guys and drafting guys and drafting guys, so a
strength would always stay of strength. So, like, you know,
(21:15):
the quick question here is is that as big as
strength for them, is that as much of their identity
now as it was before As you're breaking in a
new offensive coordinator with Johnny Morton taking over for for
Ben Johnson. Look, it's a lot, you know, it's definitely
a lot, and it's going to test a lot of people.
There is there going to be a draft drop off
from from Ragnow to Glasgow or Ratledge or whoever winds
(21:38):
up playing center. I think you certainly have to account
for that. You know, ragnow is an All Pro player.
Is there going to be a drop off at the
coordinator spots? You have to be prepared for that, even
if you know you you think the world of guys
who are replacing Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. So it's
a lot, no question, and it's and it's in a division.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
That's going to be pretty unforgiving this year.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
The Colt situation, it looks like Daniel Jones may win
that job by default with Anthony Richardson now the shoulder injury,
and I started to think about they drafted Anthony Richardson
the way NBA teams will draft a player who's a project,
Like you know this guy Ace Bailey who played at Rutgers,
(22:24):
and you're like, man, he's really athletic. Can he play?
I don't know, but he's athletic. Anthony Richardson struggled to
keep his job in college and then we found that,
you know, he was gassed during a game and took
himself out. And I don't know if we like the
philosophy of drafting that where you just base it off
(22:46):
one year and I mean, this may go down is
a huge, huge whiff for that organization.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
I mean, he's so raw coming out, you know, I
think everybody saw the talent ability, but you have to
you know, demonstrate and ability to actually do it on
the field, and there wasn't a lot of that, you know,
so they were really projecting, and you know, Shane Stiking
coming in and how you know, Shane was a part
of developing Jalen Hurts. They had some confidence that, like, hey,
we can take this kind of ball of clay and
(23:14):
shape it into something, even though he only started thirteen
games in college, which is an absurdly low number. I'd
argue this is also the result of, like, you know,
sort of predetermining, and I think this is where you
have to be really careful. Dan predetermining that this is
the draft where we're going to take a quarterback. Oh yeah, yes,
you know, I just like I and you remember it
(23:36):
as well as I do. Right, Like, so Luck retires
after eighteen. No one saw it coming. Berset in nineteen,
Rivers in twenty, Wentz in twenty one, Ryan in twenty two.
Owner gets fed up, Frank Wright gets fired. In the
middle of the year, Jeff Saturday put in, come hell
or high water, We're we're gonna get our quarterback in
twenty twenty three.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Well, is the reality of it.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
They took the third quarterback in a two quarterback draft,
you know what I mean? Like and like, that's how
you again, We've seen it time and again.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
That's how ej.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Manuel goes to Buffalo sixteenth. Overall, it's how Kenny Pickett
goes in the first round.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Of Pittsburgh Christian Ponder.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
Christian Ponder, Yeah, of the vikings, like if you predetermine,
I think like teams were prone to that happening this year,
you know, like where it just you have to draft
the player. You can't just draft the position, you know.
And I do think to some degree, the Colts were
in this spot where they were drafting the position in
twenty twenty three because they were on under something of
(24:33):
a mandate to do so, because they had had such
a revolving door at that spot.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I think it's I think it's a huge, huge.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
Huge red flag for any team thinking like going into
this year, Yes, we're taking a quarterback next year, you know.
And here's the other thing, like you were it cost you, well,
it really cost you three off seasons of finding a
quarterback because you didn't get it right in twenty three,
and then the last two years you've just backstopped sin
last year, you know, with Joe Flacco and this year.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
With uh with with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
So you've ostensibly lost I mean, unless Daniel Jones winds
up being the quarterback of the future.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
I'm not rolling anything out.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
But you know, you've you've you've lost three or three
more off seasons now as a result of that pick.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
It can be really damaging to a franchise for sure.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Where do we stand with the Stefon Diggs boat party story?
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Yeah, I would say so. So first of all, I
think the first thing you want to you want to
lay out here is how important culture has been for
for for Mike, for Abele and trying to establish what
he wants to build there. I think they followed the
Commander's blueprint to some degree. If you look at all
the guys that Dan Quinn Adam Peters signed in the
(25:47):
twenty twenty four off season, almost every one of them
had a connection to someone on the coaching staff, and
it was it was because they wanted to know that
they were getting the right types of guys to plug
into their program in year one and you know, Mike
did a lot of that in the off season. Milton
Williams was an exception, but he was a plus character
in Philly. Almost everybody else that they signed had some
(26:08):
sort of background, and this one, Diggs was sort of
the dice roll. So I think this happening this early,
and it's not so much being on a Boata Memorial
Day weekend or even the back of drugs. It's like,
how do you allow yourself to be filmed like that?
Now you've created a week long story for everybody else
in the team. So I think the big thing was
did he make it out of that week? Did he
(26:30):
sit down and have an honest conversation with Mike Rabel?
Was he straightforward with him? And can they move forward?
Speaker 11 (26:35):
Now?
Speaker 6 (26:35):
This doesn't disappear because if something else were to happen,
of course, like you know, he already has a strike
against him right like that. It's not like it's just
vanishes off the ledger, because if something else where to happen, then,
like you know, I think that then you know, you
would certainly look back and say, okay, this is twice now, dude.
But you know, I do think it's that the juncture
(26:58):
is happening can be fortuitous for the page and they
could say, Okay, like now you know, like this is
what people were worried about with you. We really need
you to be a leader for the team. And the
good news is, like I think Steph is deep down
a good guy. His work ethic has always been beyond approach.
He's been a captain for multiple teams. Like I just
I think that there's a there's a good path out
(27:19):
of this.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
But it certainly doesn't disappear from the.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Ledger allegedly drugs did.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
I'd not say allegedly. I'm sorry. I have no idea
what was in the bag. I wasn't on the boat,
wasn't invited?
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Yeah, would you have gone on the boat if invited? Sure?
Speaker 6 (27:33):
Sure?
Speaker 11 (27:34):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Did they lose your invite in the mail too?
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I don't think I want to be on that boat.
You know, you know I would go on for journalistic purpose,
of course you would. I would go on for Cardi
b Okay, this team will have the number one pick
in the draft this upcoming season.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
That's a tough one because this one's going to get aggregated.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
Then New Orleans would be interest interesting, wouldn't it If
they had the first pick and they had a chance
to take a quarterback, and with Arch Manning declare, I
don't even want to get into that because I don't
we still don't know on Arch, like how good he's
going to be when he's a starter for a full year.
But you know that's going to be the storyline, right,
I mean, his family history says there's no way he's
coming out after one year starting.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Right like his But if the Saints have the number
one pick on the draft, then I.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Mean, like, wouldn't that be tempting?
Speaker 11 (28:25):
Right?
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Yeah? And then a quarterback situation.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
I mean, I the Saints are an interesting one because
I don't think they're a bad I don't think it's
a bad team, like I don't think it's a bad roster.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Like I think their.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Offensive line actually has a chance to be really good
with Kelvin Banks coming in there. You know, the defensive
line still has I think promise, maybe get a little
bit more out of Chase Young this year. Cam Jordan's
back for his twenty fifth.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Year, you know.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
So, like I think that there are elements of a
good team there, and I think for a young quarterback
coming in eventually this could be a really good spot.
I just I don't know how quarterbacks going to undermine
them this year, you know, like the back end of
the defense, I'm not sure where that's how that's going
to look like. I think the lines give them an
opportunity to stay in games, but the rest of it
(29:14):
is kind of like, oh, like you know, like let's
see what this looks like. And and yeah, I mean
I wouldn't that definitely be the storyline though, right, like, yes, yeah,
if if we get to December and they're near the
top of the draft order and Texas is like in
the national title picture, yeah, it could be pretty interesting.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Albert, have a great weekend. The Monday Morning quarterback. Thank
you all right?
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Thanks Dan?
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Yeah, you imagine feels like Arch is going to stay
for two years, and I'm sure that that would be
something that the Manning family would advise him. Get some starts,
get some big starts under your belt, get twenty five
close to thirty starts under your belt, then you'll be ready.
But can you pass up the opportunity to be the
(29:58):
quarterback for the Normal and Saints? Sean in Oregon, Hey Sean,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (30:05):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (30:05):
Thanks for taking my call, Dan. I hear you guys
talking about the odds on the Steelers, and I'm thinking,
more like, what are the odds that Arthur Smith finished
the season with the Steelers. I've been watching Aaron Rodgers
and what he's been doing. I watched what happened to
the Jets coaching staff in that whole team. I mean,
(30:25):
I think the Steelers are a little more strong willed
and a little bit better decision making than the Jets.
But I think I think this would get pretty nasty.
And I think a lot of the Steelers' locker room
have probably got their opinions already made. And if he doesn't,
if they like Arthur Smith more than they like Aaron Rodgers,
a couple of the linemen might play Mattador type line
(30:48):
for a couple of games to let something happen to him.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I don't think that's going to happen. They want to win.
They got a chance to win with that. You may
not like all your teammates, but if that guy can
help you win, that's what it's. That's the bottom line.
Dan in Ohio, Hi Dan, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (31:08):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
DPD Dan AT's first time longtime five ten and a
wiry one thirty. The reason I'm calling is this Sunday,
I am headed out to Germany to see my daughter,
who is a captain in the army, and she surprised
me with a Father's Day weekend trip to Normandy.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Oh.
Speaker 11 (31:30):
I know that was one of.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Your most memorable trips. So I was hoping to maybe
get a little uh advice on a couple of places
to stop. I know there's all kinds of stuff there,
but I just wanted to get your opinion on the matter.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
All Right, you've got a great daughter. If she surprised
you with that for Father's Day, go to the American Cemetery,
the US Cemetery with all the soldiers who died there,
and go to the German Cemetery, because you will see,
I mean, it's unbelievable the difference between those two even
(32:09):
you know the gravestones the Americans they're white stone and
Germany they're black. You know, the feeling of pride at
the US Cemetery as opposed to going to the German
Cemetery and get there for taps. Okay, if you get
an opportunity to get there in the evening when they
(32:31):
bring the American flag down at the cemetery. It is,
it's so moving, it'll hit you hard if you can
get a walking tour, if you get a guide who
can help you with some of the smaller things that
I wasn't aware of. But it was so rewarding, unbelievable.
(32:54):
And then when you go to Omaha be I mean
when you see what those kids when they got off
those boats and you can see where the Germans had
positioned their machine guns, there's still little caves cut out.
They had no chance, none, and they got out of
those boats. And the way the Germans positioned their machine guns,
(33:19):
they were shooting at angles, you know, against the soldiers,
not straight ahead, they were going sideways. And it is
a very very very powerful scene moment feel. I just
sat on the beach. I cried. Yes, that picture of.
Speaker 9 (33:41):
The uh yeah, I think it's called like into the
Jaws of Death maybe, but it's that very famous picture
of sort of the landing barge and the front has
gone down for everybody to run off of and you
can see, you know, the walls of the barge sort
of framed the picture and all you can see is
straight through what all of these people ran through, and
(34:01):
where they were running to one of the most powerful
photographs ever taken.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
I just can't imagine you're eighteen, nineteen years of age
and all of a sudden you're pulling up and you're
seeing I mean, it's just a massacre. It truly is.
And you're getting off that boat and damn. I mean,
if you have kids, you imagine an eighteen year old
son getting off that boat, nineteen years of age. Everybody
(34:28):
getting shot right in front of you. But there's so much,
so many historical artifacts there, and you know planes that
they jumped out of and jeeps that they rowed in,
and it just it, it'll it'll hit you, It'll hit
you hard.
Speaker 1 (34:45):

Kendrick Perkins, and also as a wine company called Chosen
(36:21):
Family Wines a partnership with former teammate Kevin Love. Channing
fry Back on the program, Thanks for joining us. Oklahoma
City's biggest mistake last night was what.
Speaker 15 (36:34):
Started to get stagnant, and that last six minutes of
the fourth quarter. I think if you watched that first
Knicks game, the Knicks were moving the ball, the ball
was finding energy. And the last six minutes Oksees started
to play we're trying not to lose instead of winning basketball,
and they stopped going at Tyres Halliburn, and they stopped
(36:55):
attacking the paint and they started to just give it
to Sgaight.
Speaker 11 (36:58):
Everybody got tight and the pacers said, oh, here we go.
Speaker 15 (37:02):
And it's just it's it's absolutely amazing that somebody who's
played basketball one at the highest level, played every position,
whether that start DNP came off the bench to see
how locked in for forty eight minutes, Indiana is consistently
it's just death by a thousand cuts, right it is.
Speaker 11 (37:21):
They put TJ.
Speaker 15 (37:22):
McConnell in, he's playing at a high level. They put
in Eesmith in, he's playing the high level.
Speaker 11 (37:26):
You know.
Speaker 15 (37:27):
Then they put different rotations and I'm just impressed at
Rick Carlisle's ability to lift up every single one of
his players, to play at this level consistently and not
play hero ball until the end.
Speaker 11 (37:41):
And Tyree says, oh, y'all need me to be the hero.
Speaker 15 (37:44):
Okay, here we go, Like whether I have two points
or twelve points, two hundred points, I'm gonna hit this.
Speaker 11 (37:49):
I'm gona hit this last shot.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Okay, I was yelling at the TV last night. Now,
keep in mind, I picked the Pacers to win. But
I can't believe the defense that Okayse had. There's one
guy in the building. I don't care what kind of
game he's had prior to that. There's one guy who
has been built for this. He's not afraid of this moment.
(38:11):
I cannot let Tyrese Haliburton beat me. I can't let
him go, right, I can't. I mean, okay, help me
understand this. What did what did you see there that
he did? And okay, see did or didn't do one?
Speaker 11 (38:27):
They stopped going at him defensively.
Speaker 15 (38:29):
I think if you rewatch that first half, they put
him in actions, and anytime in the NBA, especially in
the finals, you get an action, meaning two people go
on the ball, whether it's a show and get back. Okay,
see does that really well? Indiana Tyreees was struggling at
the beginning of this because I don't think the Knicks
went at him. So when they put two on the ball,
(38:49):
they were getting downhill two feet in the paint, spraying out,
putting him in different screening actions.
Speaker 11 (38:56):
Nobody.
Speaker 15 (38:56):
They wanted to keep Nie Smith and Nemhart on SGA
as much as possible where that's kind of exhausting to
his mind. If you give a guy like Tyre's Halliburton
four or five six minutes where he doesn't have to
necessarily be in an action, run, be in rotations, he
can settle in to the game and start to control it.
(39:18):
I thought at the end of the game, okase was
so they weren't present, right, and in basketball, at the
end of the game, you need to be present to
like what the game plan is. If they were present,
they would have ran over and made him throw it.
But give this to Indiana everybody. They had what seven
dudes in double figures, So who do you double team
(39:40):
if the guy who's the clutch player maybe of our generation,
which is crazy to say, the Tyree's, I mean, it's
crazy to say, but do you double team for a
guy who has twenty three?
Speaker 11 (39:51):
This guy is fourteen, this guy is twenty, that is seventeen.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
I don't know. I'm not letting Halliburton take the shot.
I'm just not totally.
Speaker 15 (40:00):
But in that split second that you have to make
a decision, right, usually you would feel this guy doesn't
want to shoot, that guy's afraid of the moment. Si
Yakimas had big moments. Nie Smith is a big moments.
Miles Turner has made big shots. So like that split
second of not going the shot is already out and
that's what makes them it is. I've watched a lot
(40:23):
of basketball. I don't know how they do it or
how they practice that, but a coach Joyce says, hey
play forty eight minutes, and they literally play forty eight
full crazy minutes.
Speaker 11 (40:35):
It's a masterclass.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
I brought this up at the start of the show.
There are certain teams that are so good, and my
reference point is UNLV back in the nineties they blew
everybody out. Yeah oh yeah, and I would I would
keep reminding people in March madness. You have one game
usually where it's going to get tight, and I want
to know when it gets tight, how you perform. And
(40:58):
we saw that it got tight that bad play. Duke
ended up beating them. Okase, he's been blowing teams out
by average to thirteen points. Game got tight, and all
of a sudden, Indiana's been playing in these tight games.
And you saw the different I mean, Sga got the
shot that he wanted didn't go. Siakam had an unbelievable
block on Sga. But then you gave them a puncher's chance,
(41:24):
and that's all they've asked for. Hey, nobody wants to
see us. You know, nobody knows us. Well, we're going
to hang around a little bit longer there. And I
think it's a testament to those players, to that coaching
staff of we're down fifteen, we're not going to do
anything drastic. Although Obi Toppin came in, he played terrible
and then he played unbelievable. He keeps It's like Rick
(41:46):
Carlisle keeps spinning the roulette wheel and going, okay, let's
try that guy. You know, new Hard might have a
good game, or Nie Smith might have a good game,
Miles Turner, but you know the consistent is Siakam in Halliburton.
Speaker 15 (42:02):
Well, I'll say this, I think what Rick called Carlisle does,
and I say this to my friends. He's the best
Djenga player of all time. He's gonna keep tapping a
brick until it gets solved. And the thing is the
first half, if they hadn't the calmness of him as
his leader, to go, guys, we have god knows how
many turnovers. They've only scored nine points. Let's take let's
(42:22):
we can control that one.
Speaker 11 (42:24):
Two.
Speaker 15 (42:26):
What's wild is Siakam is the biggest mismatch for Okac.
I would say next to like Jokics, because Check can't
guard Siakam one on one, right, So now you've got
to play a smaller lineup. So now the best team
in basketball, second best team, you know, if you're looking
at the Cavs right for the regular season, is maybe
(42:48):
changing their lineup that's worked all year for one guy,
hold on, now that's crazy, right, And then two a
great coach, whether it's Falsetro, whether that's Joe Missoula, whether
that's Steve Kerr, you know, Tylu whoever, when you're allowed
to use your players that don't have egos as chess pieces,
(43:10):
Rick Carlisle is just every time dag Nat makes a play,
he just he just says, oh, rook to paon seven,
like he just is playing and they run out of
moves because he's like, Oh, this guy's ego hurts that
I took him out where the pacers go, Oh, that's
just Rick, Like I'm going back in no problem.
Speaker 11 (43:27):
But it's it's for people who.
Speaker 15 (43:29):
Love basketball, Like you can watch that game again and
just see the moves be made and just appreciate the
skill set of everyone on the court.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Talking to Channing fry Turner, sports NBA analyst and co
host of Road Tripping podcast, also win a championship with
the Cavs back in twenty sixteen. Okay, but with that
play when you guys went when Kyrie hits the shot, Yeah,
is Lebron prepared for Kyrie to take the show like
(44:00):
he knows like Jordan did with Steve Kerr and John
Packson they were going to take the last shot. Was
Lebron prepared to not take that last shot that you
guys knew if Steph was guarding Kyrie, he was taking
the shot.
Speaker 15 (44:14):
So if you watch that whole series, Andrew Bogan, and
I've said this before, was the biggest thing that happened
that series, right, they had to go small, and with
that small lineup, Kyrie was we were I don't want
to say the right word, is it hunting? But again,
the only action we got, which is not a switch.
They were the number one defense in the league. The
(44:34):
only non switch where Golden State would put two people
on the ball was when Steph was getting ready to
guard Kyrie. So we said he and now no, this
is true or not. We said, Kyrie, he don't want
to guard you. So we start pumping him.
Speaker 11 (44:52):
Like get it. I'm like adult, I get it. And
all of a.
Speaker 15 (44:56):
Sudden, Kyrie just does what Kyrie does. And so for
for us, the egos went out the door. We said, hey,
that's the best matchup for us. We have Tristan down
there boxing out. We have Kevin down there boxing out,
we have Braun down there boxing out. So just in
case I think Richard was in the game or Jr.
Boxing out. So that's six' nine six, nine six, ten
(45:19):
six ten versus their small group With kyrie's shooting the,
ball like you can't plan that over over the smallest
guy on the, court And kyrie is and people are
gonna be. Upset but Watching kyrie for the years THAT
i was there my short, time he's a skilled PLAYER
i have ever seen top to, bottom hands. Down, regardless
(45:41):
when he shot, that we all, knew, oh that's. Good,
like it wasn't even a thought of is this going
in or. Not when he got to his spot and
did that little, Shimmy we're, like, oh, yeah it's, it that's.
Speaker 11 (45:51):
It it's just that he's just that.
Speaker 15 (45:53):
Ridiculous but, yeah bron was, like, man, dude the dude
at forty one point triple doubles like three games in a, row,
like and people are, like, well you didn't shoot the last.
Time that's Because i'm playing With, kyrie, idiot, like and
that's the. Matchup, like people just make stuff. Up but
if you're ready to, win you go with the best.
Matchup and last, night not to bring this, Around indiana
(46:13):
started hunting Chet chet had a bad. GAME i don't
think he's gonna play like that every. Game but the
Minute chet like started to be a little, weary they
go got, him we got something and they started attacking.
Him they started going at, him and in the, finals
that's a. Lot it sucks when you start getting. Hunted
what's you either gon have to sit down and mood, in,
puppies are you gonna Be you're gonna be over?
Speaker 2 (46:34):
There what's it like to be hunted during a? Game knowing?
Sucks like this. Sucks who is the guy that you were?
Guarding and you were, like damn that he's hunting. Me
we're in THE.
Speaker 11 (46:46):
Nba finals and they're playing five.
Speaker 15 (46:48):
Guards they were Playing Andre, Madala Draymond, Green Sean, Livingston
Steve Steph, Curry Steve, Curse Steph curry that's his, Brother
Steve Steph, curry And Klay. Thompson and they Put verajall
in because REMEMBER i got traded For Vera.
Speaker 11 (47:02):
Jall when they Put verajall, IN i came in real.
Speaker 15 (47:06):
Quick and then they Took Steve kerr immediately took him
back out and Put Harrison barnes. In, Right So i'm
now Guarding Harrison, barnes who's basically a, guard And i'm a,
center true, center and my feet are like cement. Blocks
so they were like worth, Channing so that's not like
they're in THE Nba. FINALS i was, like, man, listen,
y'all we're talking about the best team ever to play
(47:28):
one of the best teams ever played, basketball and you
got slow foot Ogre channing trying to Guard Clay Steph Andre,
go'dala who is a guard with me At.
Speaker 11 (47:37):
Arizona stop, It like what are we? Doing? So hunting
does not feel good because you're, LIKE i can't move that.
Speaker 15 (47:43):
Fast this is not WHO i am as a, player
and this is just not my. Time, Hey Eastern Conference,
FINALS i could Cook finals Versus Golden.
Speaker 11 (47:52):
State maybe you KNOW i got you Here. Brown the
paychecks ain't that.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Big we've been talking about The hull Of Very, good
not The hall Of, fame but those players who were
just there. Outside you, know they're on the, patio Like Jamal,
Crawford hall of very, Right Joe johnson if you want
to put him in, THERE i don't know if you
you have a nominee for The hall Of Very, good
(48:18):
whether it's a player now or maybe somebody you played
with or. Against Is Kevin love A hall of Very?
Good or?
Speaker 15 (48:28):
So let me ask, you this is the Basketball hall Of,
fame right for THE Nba hall Of.
Speaker 11 (48:33):
Fame if it's, basketball he's a, no no.
Speaker 15 (48:36):
Question so he Wins National player of The year in
high school WINS i think two state, championships goes to,
college win's, there goes to THE nba for two years
as a power. FORWARD a cheby white dude From, Portland,
oregon is in conversations to be the?
Speaker 11 (48:51):
Best is he the best power forward in THE?
Speaker 15 (48:54):
Nba then changes his, role wins a championship In, cleveland
go to the finals four.
Speaker 11 (49:01):
TIMES i know he got, hurt but he still was
on the.
Speaker 15 (49:02):
Team goes to the finals four, times goes To, miami
goes to the finals two more. Times so like to,
me how much winning does somebody have to? Do so
he's they, go he's A hall Of, fame all? Right
so A hall of?
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Good who would you, nominate Like Jamal, crawford would you
