to go back to school. No, this is the opposite.
We finally made it. We made it through the summer,
and we got football coming up tonight. Who has it
better than we do?

Fox Sports Radio as well. Opening Night Eagles big favorites
eight and a half, the banner being raised tonight and
the Cowboys come in and are they dangerous? Dak is
good against the NFC East. DAK is good against the Eagles,

(01:23):
But with what has happened in the offseason, I know
what's going to happen. The Eagles aren't going to be
able to run the ball because the Cowboys are ready
to stop the run. I don't know if they can
stop the pass, but they're going to stop the run.
With Kenny Clark, who all of a sudden is going
to be Aaron Donald. I do like him. And Ross Tucker,
who will join us a little bit later on, had

(01:45):
a great tweet because he was saying, well, apparently Michael
Parson's not worth forty seven million dollars a year, but
he is to Green Bay and forty seven million dollars
a year and Kenny Clark in two first round picks.
So it's the eye of the beholder here and what
Dallas was willing to pay. And if you know, Jerry

(02:06):
got to a point where he said, all right, that's it.
I'm not going to negotiate that maybe his feelings were
hurt here. Now you go to Green Bay. He's expected
to play in the opener against Detroit, although may need
an epidural, which is kind of interesting of you know,
you passed a physical, you had to pass a physical
to be traded, but might need treatment leading up to

(02:29):
this game. But we also have football on Friday night.
Don't sleep on that. And you have the Chiefs and
the Chargers in Brazil. Now here's the problem I have
with this. I know we're getting to you know, global
expansion here. The NFL is going to get to an
eighteen game schedule, and they're going to have, you know,

(02:50):
eighteen games that are going to be international games, and
they're going to you know, once again that's worth a
billion dollars or whatever. It's monopoly money. But this is
what they want to do. This way, they don't take
away a home game. The fact that the Chargers in Chiefs,
a divisional rivalry game, is going to be played in
Brazil is malpractice. I mean, that's terrible because that should

(03:16):
be played in Los Angeles, or if it was going
to be played in Kansas City. This is a divisional game,
and I don't think the fans in Brazil were going
to go, hey, we better get an opening game, we
better get a week one game. They should have these games.
And I'm fine with games, you know, if you want
them to have in London, in Germany and Ireland. I'm

(03:38):
not anti international. What I am anti is a divisional
game we're going to export and it's week one. You
can't do that to the chiefs and they charge your
fans this week seven and then you have a bye week.
If you want to do it that way, then I
think it's fair to all involved. I don't like having

(03:59):
open Day in Japan. I understand that, you know, or Korea.
I understand you want to Hey, this is something different.
It's still it's our game. You can still have games there.
But let's not have opening Day or their first week,
their first game, a divisional game, and you're going to
play it in Brazil. I just it's not it's not

(04:22):
fair to the teams, to their fans. But this will
let you know exactly what the NFL is all about.
Players don't like it, fans don't like it, but the
owners like it. Let's play some football in Brazil. Those
with me. I just think it's unfortunate that you have
all of this build up and now you're going to

(04:44):
send those guys to Brazil. They should be playing this
game here in the United States, and it's a divisional game.
It's an important game, yes, Dodd. And you can't even
give the charges of home game week two when they
get back from there. They got to play at the Raiders.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
It's not to Week three where they host Denver.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's like you give them a break, a little bit
of bolts. Yes, Pauli.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
I think your point, especially about delaying it too week seven,
eight nine, makes tons of sense. Like people in Brazil,
while they may be growing football and they may like
to have a nice game with some big names, it
doesn't matter if it's the opener. The opener means nothing.
Like you said about baseball with the opener in Japan,
cool and I know for timing they had to do that,
but it just there's too much downside for the local fans.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
They could have had training camp games in Japan and
they would have been happy to see the Dodgers there
and you could have accomplished whatever. I don't think they said,
Wait a minute, is it a regular season game or
is it spring training? Now you could have ramped up
your lineup there a little bit and you could have said, hey,
we want to showcase some of our best players. We
want to make sure Otani's playing, and maybe it's three

(05:49):
innings that he's going to play what they do in
a typical spring training game, and maybe you get a
little bit more over there. Okay, training camp could have
been over there for a couple of you start by
playing games and then come back and go to spring training.
It's just wrong. And I'm all about growing the game,
whatever it takes. Let's try new things, grow the game.

(06:10):
Spring training. You can have a couple of games in
Japan and I think they're going to be okay with this.
And if you want to have a game in Brazil,
I mean, this is why we always had. It felt
like the Jags and the Panthers in London. It's like,
all right, we'll give you a game. It's not a
great game, but here you go. You got some football.
Now we're sending the Chiefs and if that's their home team,

(06:33):
you know, okay, we could wait for week seven or
eight and then give them a bye week when they
come back. But I don't want to be in a
bad mood on opening night.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
Airic grievances early.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Well, I think people are going to respond to this
after the fact, certainly Chiefs fans and Charger fans, they've
already voiced their concerns disdain for this. But this is
the NFL doesn't care. They don't have to. All they
care about is themselves, the owners, and this is going
to be more money. Here's the commissioner, Roger Goodell. He

(07:06):
was on the Today Show in NBC talking about the
possibility of expanding to eighteen games.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
Listen, we always say what do the fans want? What
are the fans really think is important? And I think
it's clear they want more regular season game versus preseason games,
and it's something that we'll work.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Through with the players Association.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
We continue to make our game safer, and I think
that's at the core of making that kind of a decision.
Can we do it safely for our players? But it
also I think represents an opportunity for us to continue
to bring higher quality NFL content Ultimately, and a regular
season game is clearly better.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
A lot of NFL fans would love to not have
to go to work. Point, do we start to see
the super Bowl on the President's Day weekend.

Speaker 6 (07:51):
I think if you went to eighteen weeks regular season,
that would probably occur. Is possible somewhere in the calendar
could happen before that, just because because of the calendar
the way it lays out. But I think eighteen weeks
would get you to that point, and I think it'd
be a great, a really great move.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, we've been talking about this for years that they
were going to get to I mean, this is all scripted,
This has been planned out. They know what's going to happen.
Now the negotiations are going to happen. It'll be eighteen games,
you're going to have every team will play outside the
United States. They're going to sell that a separate TV
package for those international games, all this stuff. We've talked

(08:30):
about this for years, and you're going to move the
season back. It'll be President's Day weekend. Everybody gets Monday off.
This is no surprise here, and it almost sounded like
an announcement by the commissioner. It was pretty close to
saying this is what's going to happen. Then yes, we
move it back. Yeah, President's Day weekend, and everybody wants

(08:51):
more football and we want everybody to be safe. You
can't add another game and tell me you care about safety.
You just can't. And now this is what I want.
I want the NFL to promise this. I hope the
players Association says, hey, we'll do eighteen games. This is
what we want. We want four more roster spots for

(09:12):
each team, extra bodies, that's what we want. So now
I get four more players on each team getting paid,
getting benefits, the opportunity to play in the NFL. If
you say that's what you're going to get out of this,
and I'm sure they'll want more than Okay, I mean,

(09:33):
don't I get to watch it, But these players have
to play. They're the ones that are affected the rest
of their lives playing these games. The number of games.
But if you have let's say, four more roster spots,
then maybe maybe you get the opportunity to You don't
have attrition here where you're like limping to the finish

(09:54):
line with your roster and every single year, how many
quarterbacks play the entire season. Just start there, and that's
the most protected player on the field. You can't add
another game and tell me it's about safety. It's about
money and the players know this. The clock is ticking
on their sports careers. How many years? How much money?

(10:17):
What am I going to be like when I get
out of here? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (10:21):
I like that clip about the eighteenth game. Roger Goodell says, well,
you know, we're just doing what the fans want, and
they've said that they want an eighteenth game, so we're
going to do that. Okay, but the fans hate the
international gipts Oh, well, you know the fans are wrong
on that. That's our international fans, don't you love it?
So we're listening to that?

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Well, yeah, PAULI, I'm curious.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
We've never really discussed this angle. It's so obvious. Does
anyone here not want an eighteenth regular season game? If
it was an actual fan vote? I don't even know
my answer yet, but I'm curious about this room.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
I'm fine with it. I mean, I don't think anybody's
turn off football. I'm not big on Thursday night football.
I don't think we're being fair to the players when
you have a game on Sunday and a game on Thursday.
It's just and having spoken to current and former players,
the turnaround is really really tough. Now you do it

(11:16):
because you get an extra paycheck, or you're going to
get a chance to be in primetime and standalone game.
I understand all of these things. I'm not going to say.
All I'm going to say is let's be fair to
the players. You're going to give them more money, another paycheck,
and maybe you get some more roster spots. But let's
not kid anybody. This is not about anybody other than

(11:38):
the owners want this. We're fine. The networks want this,
they get they give the money to the owners, and
the commissioner works for the owners. That's what this is
all about. You want to give me more football, great,
But I do think about the players, and I think,
and I go back to what I told you when
I saw Jim McMahon out in Tahoe and what he

(12:02):
meant to the NFL. And here he is telling me
they almost had his leg amputated and he doesn't have
health benefits. Those are the things that bother me when
I first saw Earl Campbell in a wheelchair. Those are
the things that bother me. But I've been around the
sport for forty years now, and I think you have

(12:22):
to be fair to these players. You know, what's their healthcare,
what's their benefits because we move on. It's like, oh yeah, ah,
that guy what Oh he's in a wheelchair. Oh damn, Hey,
what times of games start today? We move on with it.
I just want to make sure that we're fair to
these players who are entertaining us. And if you want

(12:45):
to add an eighteen game, okay, I get to enjoy it.
But let's be fair to all involve here international games.
How about not a divisional rival game? Okay? I mean
we can export a game that's not that interesting. We
do it to London all the time, but that bothers

(13:07):
me to open up in Brazil with the Chiefs and
Chargers a divisional game. I have a problem with that,
all right. See, you got to pull a question.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
I do.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
I'm trying to figure out if the wording on this
is fair. Okay, because we've been talking about it a
little bit, all right, but Steve.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Balmer is the Oh let me hold off on that.
I'm want to take a break. And we talked to
Pablo Torre yesterday, who had this investigation into the Clippers
and Kawhi Leonard and a fraudulent company and money that's
there and Kawhi being paid for a no show job.

(13:45):
Mark Cuban's now involved in this. Coming to Steve Balmer's defense,
there's a lot of things going on right now. The
NBA says they're aware of it, which that was an
interesting response. Todd goes, you know, hey, we just want
to ask if the commissioner wants to come on and
talk about this. Well, we're aware of this, which is
good because they said, Wait a minute, what happened?

Speaker 3 (14:06):
What about the Clippers?

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Yeah, you call me back, ID, I'm gonna got off
this other call we need to talk with.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I didn't hear anything about Clippers.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Wait a minute, I've been watching the US Open tennis.
Is there something going on? But Pablo had sources, seven sources,
one on record. One said that they specifically said the
Clippers were trying to circumvent the salary cap paying Kawhi
Leonard twenty eight million dollars for a no show job
for a company that I believe the CEO is going

(14:33):
to jail. And there's a lot. There's a lot involved here. Now,
once again, you're innocent until proven guilty. You know, did
Steve Balmer know anything or what did he know? When
did he know? And did Kawhi get paid twenty eight
million dollars. We'll talk a little bit more about that.

(14:53):
We'll get to your phone calls as well, an eight
seven seven three DP show. We're back after this in
The Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Ron Jaworski, NFL quarterback for seventeen seasons. He went to
a Super Bowl and he will be handling the Eagles
pre and postgame show for NBC Sports Net tonight. What
are the expectations for the Eagles this season. Johnson Dan first.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Of all, greeting with you once again. Expectations in Philadelphia
through the roof.

Speaker 9 (16:01):
It would be going crazy tonight at Lincoln Financial Field
when that banner is raised.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
The bar is very high.

Speaker 9 (16:07):
I think most people that have watched football for the
last couple of years believe that Howie Roseman has built
a franchise for the long haul, not only to win,
but to win Super Bowls. This is a very good
football team. The national TV audience and of course the
Dallas Cowboys. This is always a game when the schedule
came out in Philadelphia and put a big circle around
the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
It's been a bit of rivalry for a long time.

Speaker 9 (16:28):
So all of a sudden you get the World Champions
unveiling the banner here in Philadelphia this evening. You got
to Dallas Cowboys coming to town. It'll probably be the
highest rated game of the year. So it's a great matchup.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
But is it super Bowl or bust? Like anything other
than a Super Bowl win in Philadelphia? Would that be
a disappointment.

Speaker 9 (16:45):
Yes, it's Philadelphia just the way it is, and you
learn to live with it. But this is a very
good football team. The Cowboys that were kind of going
through a rebuilding state right now. The Eagles last year
in the two games against the Cowboys long by score
of seventy five to thirteen. That's correct, an seventy five

(17:05):
to thirteen last season. So of course Dak Prescott's not
playing those games. He'll be playing this evening. But right now,
the Eagles organization is far ahead of the Cowboys organization
as far.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
As the player development and the team they put on
the field.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
I know we love rankings, we love lists, especially with quarterbacks,
and I just don't know if we know how to
properly rank Jalen Hurts. I don't know if he's a
great quarterback, but he is the right quarterback for this team.
How do you look at where he kind of stands
with these other quarterbacks right now?

Speaker 9 (17:36):
He's the best quarterback in the national football because he
has that ben Stonombardi Trophy in his hand.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
He's a world champion quarterback, He's a Super Bowl MVP.

Speaker 9 (17:44):
And I don't know how he come up with all
these quarterback rankings and ratings and who's number one, who's
number thirty two, and who's moving up and who's moving down.
You know, I played seventeen years introduce me in this league.
The only thing that I was concerned about was can
we win the football game? Not numbers, not stants, Can
we win the football game. You look at Jalen Hurts's record.

(18:05):
The only thing this young man cares about is winning.
He's still pissed off right now. I mean, he's a
super MVP, but he now he feels disrespect because he's
not in the top three or four, top five of
these quarterback rankings in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
But why would he care about that, Jaws? If he
cares about winning, why would he care about his ranking?

Speaker 9 (18:22):
Right? Because you gotta have something to motivate yourself. Every
player's got something besides winning. What's going to motivate you
to become great. It's not always the wins and losses.
Everyone's different. Everyone motivates himself differently right now. But the
guy is a winning quarterback. He knows how to win.
He prepares, and I think the players, you know, I
get out the training camp, I see how he operates,
how the team operates, how Nick operates the football team

(18:44):
on the practice field.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
And you know it's no joke. It's no joking around.
And Jalen Hurts is the leader of the football team.

Speaker 9 (18:51):
He's a winning quarterback and to me, you rate a
quarterback does he win games?

Speaker 3 (18:55):
When the game is under line. Jalen Hurts makes plays.

Speaker 9 (18:58):
And I think the one thing that's probably the most
overlooked and his skill set, his ability to run and
read defenses. And now he's gotten so much better at
that because you have to you have to respect Jenner.
It's ability to run, to throw on the run and
run those zone read options. That's to be separate him
because he stretches the field donally vertically in the passing game,
but horizontally in the running game.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
And I think a good example I was looking at
some tape of.

Speaker 9 (19:20):
The Cowboys with Michael Parsons in there over the last
couple of years getting in preparations for this game. Michael
Parsons really was never a factor against the Eagles, never
a factor because they made him play the run, They
ran the zone read option at him, made him wrong.
And only there's only one quarterback I think you can
do that. Well, there's others. Patrick Mahomes can do it,
but they don't put him in harms way. Probably Josh
Allen could do it, but they don't put in harms way.

(19:41):
Thieves are willing to take a chance with Jendler's because
he normally makes the right decision when he makes a
decision to run the football or handed off in the
running game.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
I always found it interesting with great players and players
who could track you down Lawrence Taylor, that the best
play is to go after them, like go straight to them,
instead of letting them have that catch up speed that
you know Micah Parsions has. I go back to Alan Page.
I remember Tony Dungee saying we went right at him

(20:10):
because we knew he would eventually catch us if we didn't.

Speaker 9 (20:14):
Well, especially you know, the lineback position, it's become such
an important position in the NFL, and I think the
best way to take on a guy that likes to
use speed and quickness and athleticism is a run right
at him, you know, make him take on blocks for
sixty five or seventy plays a game wears as down.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
You know, that's kind of what the approach that teams
take on it.

Speaker 9 (20:32):
If you've got a great athlete as a linebacker, even
the defensive line, run it right at him, make him
and make him make plays and.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Wear him down. So yes, I would agree with your
assessment of that.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
I'm talking to Ron Jaworski, the former NFL quarterback. He's
working with the Eagles the pre and post game show
for NBC sports Net tonight. If not the Eagles, then who.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Probably the Chiefs.

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Again, I think the Bills are creeping up as far
as winning the Super Bowl. They're gonna be teams in
the hunted, right, It's gonna be in the hunt, There's
no question of that. This I love this week, this
first opening week, because no one knows what the hell
is gonna happen, Dan, I mean, it is the hardest.
You know, as a player for seventeen years, I knew
Week one. You didn't know what to expect. No one
shows anything any more in the preseason. It is the

(21:15):
hardest game to evaluate. I always say, I'll come on
your show in four weeks and then you can ask
me the question, who's the best team in the National
Football I think you need we need to see a sampling,
not based on one last year. This Eagle roster. They're
the world champions. They've had tremendous turnover, tremendous turnover you
know you're gonna have four probably four new starters, maybe
five stars a defense tonight. U Fortunately for them, their
their offense is very sound. There will be one change

(21:37):
at right right guard with the uh Steam going in
the right guard that they'll be fine on offense, but
defense there's a turnover. So you got to see how
it's gonna play out when as the season wears on.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Can you defend what Jerry Jones did in the Micah
Parsons situation?

Speaker 9 (21:52):
Yeah, I think both teams wanting this. I think the
immediate winner is the Green Bay Packers. They get a
great football player. They're now probably along the Eagles, probably
the odds on favorite.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
To go to the Super Bowl and win a World championship.

Speaker 9 (22:04):
That the Packers got a lot better now, but they
gave up a lot to give them to number one
draft choices and Kenny Clarks, they gave up potentially, you know,
a few all pro players. And let's be realistic, the
Cowboys are in a kind of a rebuilding type year,
and if they hit on those draft choices, you could say, Okay,
they're gonna have four first round picks in the next
two years. They're gonna have a chance to rebuild their
football team with high draft choys. Yeah, they may not

(22:26):
be number one's number twos, but it gives them the
capitol now to move up into those positions where they
can get any player they want in the next two years.
So I think for the short term, the Green Bay
Packers certainly win. The long term, I think the Dallas
Cowboys win.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Always great to talk to you, Jaws, Thanks for joining us.
Have fun tonight.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
All right, I always worked great work with you, Dan,
You're the best.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
That's Ron Jaworski handling the Eagles pre and postgame show
for NBC Sportsnet coming up tonight.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the Ihearts rate search FSR to
listen live. Ross Tucker CBS Sports Westwood One.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
He's an analyst. He's the host of Ross Tunker Football podcast.
He'll be in the booth tonight for the Cowboys and
the Eagles, and then on CBS TV Cardinals and the
Saints coming up this weekend. All right, you got a
hot take for me? NFC, I can give you one.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
I mean, I always get nervous about these because then
you're gonna put it on social media and then it's like,
oh my gosh, he thinks that I get ripped like
Seaton's going to for having Placo and the Browns going
to the playoffs. That's hilarious. You know what, I don't know.
I'll be curious to hear how hot you guys think

(23:46):
this is. But I think a six and eleven team
from a year ago in the NFC is going to
go to the Super Bowl. The Niners, if you're not
paying attention, it's the San Francisco forty nine ers, who
somehow not only have the easiest schedule this year, they
have the easiest strength of schedule in the last ten years.

(24:09):
And oh, by the way, you know, they had a
lot of underlying statistics that weren't that bad last year
in terms of yards per play, all those things. And
they did it without McCaffrey, without Trent Williams. They were
banged up on defense. I believe in their core guys
like Fred Warner and us Check and Kittle. I think

(24:29):
the Niners bounce back in a major way. Not the Eagles,
not the Packers. I think the San Francisco forty nine
ers are going to the Super Bowl again.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Yeah, I have Christian McCaffrey as the offensive Player of
the Year, So I'm with you on the Niners being
sneaky good this year. Yeah, you're hot. Taking the AFC,
I got two.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
I got two I like in the AFC. I don't
know how scorching you think either one is. The first
one is It's not quite Joe Flacco Browns level. But
I'll take Danny Dimes, Daniel Jones and the Colts to
make the playoffs, maybe even win that division. In the AFC,

(25:13):
South saves Shane Steikin's job, saves Chris Ballard's job, and
people have to think a long hard about Daniel jones
tenure with the Giants after he leads the Colts to
the playoffs. The other one, though, I really like, is
that I think we all assume the AFC it's gonna
be the Ravens, the Bills, the Chiefs, maybe Burrow and

(25:37):
the Bengals. I think there's a pretty good chance the
AFC Championship Game includes Sean Payton, bow Knicks and the
Denver Broncos top five defense, top five offensive line. The
question is whether or not bow Knicks is good enough

(25:57):
to win multiple playoff games against MVP caliber guys like Mahomes, Burrough, Allen,
you know whatever, Lamar, But I'm gonna say that they
can do it, and that the Broncos are the surprise
team in the AFC Championship game.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
All right, those are respectable, you know. And the forty
nine er take that they go to the super Bowl.
That's not crazy.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
No, those are like, those are my warm takes. Okay,
you're like, they're they're not scorching hot that I'm gonna
get ripped for them, but they're not like obvious either.
They're warm enough that they're passable for the segment.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Yeah, it's like you're taking cookies out of the oven
and you don't need an oven mitt for them. That's
sort of what your takes are, and I do. I
almost picked the Colts with Danny Dimes that he would
he would have a resurgence and they would make the playoffs.
I decided to make it hotter and say that the
Titans were going to make the playoffs. Yeah, and you
know who's getting a lot of love the Patriots, Like

(26:59):
they're there's a lot of people who believe Mike Rabel
is going to have a playoff team this year.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
I think they're getting a little too much love. Okay,
I mean I did a couple of their games last
year on TV. Did people watched the Patriots play football
last year? I mean they were bad, bad, and I
would agree that Mayo was not a good coach, and
I'm sure Vrabel is significantly better. And it's wild to
see the Craft family spend the money that they spent.

(27:28):
I think they're sick and tired of losing and they
want to at least get back to respectability. By the way,
how crazy is it?

Speaker 3 (27:37):
Dan?

Speaker 4 (27:38):
I love stuff like this. The highest paid player in
New England Patriots franchise history is Milton Williams. Okay, Milton
Williams was not even really a starter for the Eagles
last year. He started a bunch of games, but he's
one of the three starting d tackles that the Eagles
rotated through in the Patriots spending spree. They made him

(28:01):
think about the guys that have played for the like
Tom Brady and all these guys, and Milton went, that's
a good trivia question up there in New England for
you guys.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Yeah, very good. Ross Tucker, CBS Sports, Westwood One He'll
be doing tonight's game with Kevin Harlan and it'll sound
a little bit like this tonight, this is the NBA
on TNT, but it'll be football, Thank you, tom And
then on Sunday he'll have the Cardinals in the Saints.
I saw where Robert Kraft commented on Belichick getting a statue,

(28:34):
and Tommy, of course is going to get a statue.
Would you combine the statue with Brady and Belichick in
New England?

Speaker 4 (28:43):
No, I wouldn't. And you know, I think Brady already
got one. I think it's already out. Oh that's right,
it's gonna be soon. You know they put it. They
better put the Belichick one up soon. I mean, I
can't remember very many guys that have done more to
diminish a reputation over the last five years than Belichick.

(29:06):
I mean, the crazy thing is, if you think about it, Okay,
I can't remember what year it was, Dan, but like
Derek Carr had signed a deal for thirty million dollars
a year with the Raiders, and Brady said, listen, I'll
make less than guys. But this is Brady's making like
nineteen So he just wonted twenty five, right like even
less than Derek Carr. Dan they gave him five million

(29:29):
dollars in incentives, which was incredibly insulting. You'll never convince
me that that wasn't the exact moment that he said,
I'm out here. It was Belichick's idea. See, we would
have never known, okay, that Brady could do it without
Belichick unless Belichick moved on from him.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Like he did.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
So that was bad move number one. That led obviously
to the Patriots being in disaster the last couple of years. Then,
however you feel about his personal life, you can feel.
And then now with the North Carolina the other night
and not being able to get jobs from any of
these NFL teams two years in a row, it just

(30:13):
it's not a good look for a guy that was,
you know, in most people's opinion, the greatest coach of
all time. It feels like every year they're taking another
another swipe at that thing. They better put the statue
up soon.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Yeah, I forgot about Brady's statue where his head is
really small, but the rest of the statue is is large.

Speaker 9 (30:33):
There.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
I just I don't, I mean, you were in New
England for a little while with Belichick, I just I
just don't think that personality translates transfers to the college kids.
And you've got to go in there, and you've got
to be in living rooms with them, and you got
to have, you know, another, an extra slice of pie,
and you gotta be booster mean like all the things

(30:56):
that Bill hates doing. You know he wants to be
in the lab. Well, well you can only be in
the lab so long. You got to be out there
front and center representing your program. And I didn't think
they were going to get embarrassed like they did. But
I don't think this is a oh my gosh, he's
going to show everybody he can coach no matter where.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Well, a couple things. Number one, I had nine head
coaches in the NFL. Beelchick's fantastic, I mean, schematically unbelievably impressive.
The scheme he would come up with week to week.
Best coach I was ever around in terms of telling
you the legit three keys to the game and us

(31:35):
knowing if we did those three things we were to win.
And it happened almost all the time.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah, but he didn't go into your friend, your family's
house and recruit you and try to charm your mom.
He just saided, like, uh, who do we have? All right,
Ross Tucker?

Speaker 4 (31:50):
All right, Ross, Well that's the thing. He can turn
the charm on when he has to, but to your point,
he doesn't want to, and it's it's not his natural disposition.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Right.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
So I think in general, in life, you're usually set
up for success when you can just be your normal,
Like you guys know when I come on with you
or when I call it like this is you know,
when I have dinner with Paula, Like this is just
how I am, right, this is how, this is how
I am. Belichick is being forced to act in a
way that's not natural, that's not him. I'm a little

(32:28):
surprised he did it. I think, you know, they'll be better,
I guess over the course of the year. But that
was a big I mean, Michael Jordan and Lawrence Taylor
up there, maybe the best alumni duo I've ever seen.
It's all it's nationally televised ESPN, the Mothership, They're all there,
and that was I mean, that was about as embarrassing

(32:50):
as it can get.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Yeah, I don't know how much better it gets because
you bring in seventy players and he's the king of as.
They didn't make adjustments in the second half. The adjustment was,
oh my gosh, how badly are we going to lose?
Not we're going to lose. That was what was probably
the most surprising. And he's not going to coach in

(33:13):
the NFL again. There's no owner who's going to say,
you know what, let's bring in Bill. He can solve
all of this because now he's bringing in a whole
lot more than just a great resume. I just don't
I don't see that happening.

Speaker 4 (33:25):
Well, and think about it too, Dan, You know these
guys like these high school kids every year removed. Yeah,
they were seven and eight, you know, years old when
Brady was winning Super Bowls with Belichick. The shine is
wearing off with every passing year. I think it's gonna
probably get harder for him, not easier.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
All Right, your NFC pick? Are you staying with the
forty nine ers? That was a hot take selection, But
what is your real take? The reasonable take in the
NFC to go to the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (33:57):
You know, you know what, I think there's three teams
I can see doing it right now. I think it's
the Eagles, the Packers now that they have Micah Parsons,
which I still can't believe. The Cowboys made that trade
unbelievable on so many levels. I wouldn't be surprised if
the Packers went at all. But I'll go with the Niners.
I'll stick with it because of that schedule, because I
think this is probably the last run they have in

(34:18):
them with this group of guys this course, so I
and they find a way. It feels like cal Shanahan
has like bad year Super Bowl, bad year super Bowl.
I think they're gonna get back to Super Bowl. So
I'll stick with the forty nine ers takes. Yeah, I
mean I think you guys know, I wish so badly

(34:40):
that I could give you fresh blood. I would love
a Bills Detroit Lion super Bowl for those players, for
those fans. But when people ask me like you, I'm
gonna give you, you know what I think is most likely.
I think it's the Chiefs. I don't think the Chiefs
will win as many games this year because I don't
think they'll continue to win every every one score game ever,

(35:01):
that luck will run out. But I think they're going
to be better. I mean, I've heard from multiple people.
This is the best Kelsey's looked in a couple of years.
They're going to have the whole second half of the year,
Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, Rashi Rice on the field. At
the same time, Mahomes super motivated. They're definitely better at
left tackle with that rookie Josh Simmons out of Ohio State.

(35:24):
I think the Chiefs, you know, I know people are
getting Chiefs fatigue. I think the Chiefs go to the
Super Bowl again.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
I went on a rant to start the show, maybe
called a hot take, and we shouldn't have a divisional
game the Chiefs and Chargers out of the country. We just,
I mean, they can play, but not the first week.
I just don't think that's it's fair to the teams,
the fan base. But you know, I know this is

(35:53):
going to continue to happen.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Here.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Your thoughts on having a game out of the country
of this magnitude, or any game to start the year
that we're going to be in another country.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
I don't mind the first game of the year aspect
of it. What bothers me is if you're the Chargers
and you're trying to win the division, to lose a
home game to Brazil. Now, in fairness, if you've ever
seen the Chargers host the Chiefs, half the fans are
Chiefs fans, right like the Chargers are still trying to

(36:26):
find their way in La. Half the stadium is Chiefs
fans anyway. But it's still a home game. You don't
have to travel, you're in your own locker room and stadium.
You still have some fans there to give up a
division game. That's the part that bothers me. Is not
the Week one aspect of it. It's the losing a

(36:47):
home game. That home game you lose, in my mind,
should be a team in the other conference, you know,
one of the crossover games.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Before I let you go, I brought up we're gonna
get to eighteen games. The question is not if, but when,
but if you're part of the players association, I suggested
four roster spots, extra roster spots for each team if
for an eighteen game season, Ask that do you want
to add to that? What would you want to what

(37:18):
would you want as a player if you're going to
eighteen games with getting an extra paycheck? But what else?

Speaker 3 (37:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:25):
So I love the roster spot idea, Dan, and so
the owners will push back on that because those roster
spots lead to all the benefits, right, Yeah, so your
health savings account, your severance, your pension, your annuity, your
four one K. I mean, there's a lot of benefits

(37:48):
tied into that, and so they will fight that. But
I think that's I think that's a worthwhile fight. I
really do. There's only two things that matter, right, trying
to get a greater percentage of the pies. Whatever it is,
forty eight and a half percent, try to get that
to forty nine or forty nine and a half percent.
You want, you want eighteenth game, let's do fifty to fifty.
I don't know that that'll happen, but I do like

(38:10):
your roster spot idea. Because the other thing is there's
sixteen guys on practice squads. Now, practice squad year does
not count for your benefits. So there's something there too
where maybe if you have two practice squad years it
counts for your benefits as well, because that makes a
big difference. Man, I look at you know, I look
all the time at what my four to one K is,

(38:33):
my annuity, what my pension will be, which I can take,
by the way, as early as fifty five. That makes
a big difference. I mean there's guys that hang on
in those last few years. I remember having a veteran
long snapper when I was a rookie. He said, I
would just play for the benefits. At this point, I
don't even need my salary. I just want to keep
stacking all those benefits. So I think you're on the

(38:53):
right track. Dand with the roster spot thing, plus, that
is music to the ears of the vast majority of
the game. They're going to vote on that, CBA. Those
are a lot of those guys are bubble guys. They
want those extra roster spots to keep this thing going.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Have fun tonight. We'll talk to you soon. Thank you
so much, Dan, I will Ross Tucker
