Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Let's overreact, or maybe we're just reacting. The Packers are
the team to beat in the NFC right now. I
don't think you can argue that they've beaten two really
good teams. And yes, one was on the road, one
was at home. But I think in the fashion that
they beat the Lions and the Commanders, they roughed them up,
they roughed them up, and they looked impressive and well
(00:29):
two home games, I should say, so, yes, you knock
those two off. You check the boxes there with two teams,
playoff teams who have gone to NFC title games. And
now all of a sudden, you've got everybody's attention. This
is a team that always scored. Last year, they scored,
they'd get you twenty points, they'd average twenty points a game,
maybe more than that.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Now you've got defense, and if.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
You're able to put pressure, you're able to stop dynamic players. Now,
all of a sudden, you you've changed the perception of
your team because it feels like they're a defensive first team.
And if you're going to hit the quarterback twelve times, now,
all of a sudden, he's back there, and now he's
(01:14):
thinking instead of your thinking about the wide receiver, you're
thinking about the play. Now you're thinking about where where
is that guy? Because Michael Parsons. You can look at
the stats, and the stats to me, they really don't
incorporate how great he is. Because let's say somebody gets
a sack and it's not Michael Parsons. Pretty much guarantee
(01:34):
that Michael Parsons had something to do with that person
getting a sack or holding calls. That's like a sack
if you're going to be holding and he's the one
that is being held. Once again, that value. There's only
a couple of players like that in the NFL. That's
why I know Jerry's going to go to his grave
saying he made a great deal trading away Michaeh Parsons.
(01:56):
They you know, I think Green Bay paid too much
for him given the market, but giving up the run stopper,
the two first round picks, you saw the difference. There's
only five or six players who are like that defensively,
and he might be at the top of the list of.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
He's going to put pressure.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
He's gonna make sure you know where he is and
he's gonna make everybody better on passing downs. The one
thing I would caution is I want to ease him
into the season. And I know that when you have
a shiny new toy, you're like, God, I gotta get
him out there. I want him to play. He wants
to get out there. He's lobbying Matt Laflor to get
him out there to play a little bit more. A
(02:37):
long season, long season, players are going to get hurt.
Teams are gonna be up, they're going to be down,
and it happens every single year. It's really really rare
when a team doesn't go through a rough patch, and
green Bay will have that this year. But what we've
seen so far with the Lions and the Commanders, and
I don't think those scores are indicative of just how
(02:58):
much better Green Bay was and those teams. But the
Packers aren't suddenly Super Bowl contenders because they traded for
Micah Parsons. In my opinion, I just think they're They've
always been contenders top to bottom, and now you put
the finishing touch and getting a player like that, and
now I think they're the team to beat in the NFC. Now,
let's see what happens with the Eagles against Kansas City.
(03:19):
If the Eagles, who are favored, slight favorites, go into
Kansas City and they put up impressive numbers, I just
think it's so hard. And you know, players talk about
when you're winning championships, you get full and it's hard
to eat when you're full.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
And maybe the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Are going to, you know, go through that where they
might not be as hungry as they've been before it happens.
That's why we don't have back to back champions been
a long, long, long time. But going to Kansas City,
that will have my attention. There's a couple of games
that have my attention in the NFL. The Patriots against
the Dolphins. It's a division game, but I think all
(04:01):
eyes are on Mike McDaniel, the Dolphin said coach like,
that's a must winish game in my opinion. The Broncos
against the Colts. It's just one of those games where
you go, I normally wouldn't really care about it, but
now I kind of do. You know, Buffalo after a
(04:21):
big win and then they're on the road against the Jets.
I'm not saying, but I'm saying those are the games
that always get my attention where you go.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
I don't know, it's a weird feeling.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
The Chargers, the Chargers against the Raiders, I don't know,
big game on the road, come back and now you're
gonna face them, and I don't know.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Just a couple of those.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I got a few of those in college football as
well that I'll run down eight, seven to seven to three.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Good morning if you.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app, and
we say good morning to our radio affiliates as well.
All right, poll question seating for the first hour the
program is going to be. What very exciting day, very
exciting day.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
We've got our first dude poll question. Oh yeah, I
love sent this one over, dude, Green Bay Packers. Dude, dude.
That's a start to the season.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
That's announcing your presence.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Yeah, Pauline, And if you're a Packer fan, you're on
national TV. Wipe the floor with the Commanders. Then you
got the rest of the weekend the watch football. You
can just put your feet up, relax, no tension. You
got the Wisconsin Bama game. And the next three weeks
the Packers have Browns, Cowboys, Bengals, then Cardinals. Those are
three or four very winnable games.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
By the way, the Bills are favored by six and
a half at the Jets. The Patriots are getting two
and a half at the Dolphins. Eagles are one and
a half point favored at the Chiefs. Mahomes I think
has been a home underdog. This is the second time
in his career. And the Chargers are getting three and
a half at the Raiders. What else do you have
Seaton today?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Dude, Aaron Judge is having a season. He is not
as good as last season.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Dot Well, he ties Joe Demagio in the all time
home run list and uh, he's got forty six home
runs this season. I never considered Joe Demagio a home
run hitter, but I okay, we can celebrate milestones. And
it's a big name there that he's going to pass
in Joe Demagio. I think if you check, I mean,
(06:36):
Joe Demagio is underrated, great centerfielder, and uh, you know
he would bat three, fifty three, sixty, but I don't
think he ever hit forty home runs in a season.
But here's judge who, oh, by the way, has got
forty six home runs. I think Demaggio had more home
(06:57):
runs than strikeouts in his entire career. I think he
struck out like three hundred and fifty times or something
in his career.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yeah, poet, it's really close.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Jojomasha with three hundred and sixty nine career strikeouts three
hundred and sixty one career home runs. He hit forty
six homers his second year in the league and thirty
nine later in his life, but his career average Jodomasha
was three twenty five. He also missed three seasons aged
twenty eight, twenty nine, and thirty because of military service.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Well that's why when I go back and I look
at Ted Williams stats and he missed three prime years
twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty, I think, you know, I mean,
he was a pirate fighter pilot in the war and
then comes home and is still the greatest hitter. I mean,
he didn't do a meet and greet. He wasn't like Elvis,
(07:47):
you know, or we're gonna do a fundraiser. Bob Hope
wasn't you know, overseas. But you know, you look at
Ted Williams. But do you have five to twenty one?
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Ted Williams hit five hundred and twenty one home run.
He missed three seasons at age twenty five, twenty six,
and twenty seven. If you parade his home runs casually
another one hundred, he'd be at six twenty and a
career batting average of three forty four.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, it might be the greatest hitter of all time. Yeah,
I know, Babe Ruth put up incredible numbers as well,
But teddy ballgame, missing three years, and he's a fighter pilot.
It's not like, hey, Elvis, can you come out and perform?
Can you shake some hands here? Well, yeah, I will.
(08:36):
That wasn't a very good Elvis in personally, I said,
I will, Yes, Marmon, and I.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
Was agreeing with you. It wasn't a great thanks. You're right,
there wasn't.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Can you imagine you're the enemy, you're flying your playing
You look over.
Speaker 8 (08:49):
Like, is that Ted Williams about to shoot me down?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
This one is splinter. No one else could do it.
An he wore his batting helmet. That was the weird thing.
I black, Yeah, eye black.
Speaker 7 (09:00):
That's not true about it.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
No, it's it's it's not. It's not.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
By the way, wearing the EyeBlack Tucker Craft South Dakota
is South Dakota State or South Dakota. He had a
big night last night. Here is Jordan Love on his
big tight end.
Speaker 9 (09:19):
I'm expecting big things from Tuck this year. But it's just,
you know, it's one of those things that that's what
Tucky is.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
Every day.
Speaker 9 (09:25):
You know, he comes in and puts that work in
and you know, in practice every day he's making those
big time plays and he's very consistent right now. So
I don't think it's a secret for him to go
out there and you know, ball like he does first
time having a hundred yards, which is pretty cool for him.
But uh yeah, I mean he goes out there and
takes the work from practice into the games and is
consistent with what he does. So, you know something, we
(09:47):
just gotta keep building on with him. But you know, Texa,
a guy's gonna have a big year.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
South Dakota State jack rabbits there Tucker Craft people scrambling
for their fantasy teams.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
So I got him, I claimed him.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
I got him.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Jayden Daniels ran seven times for seventeen yards. He threw
forty two times for two hundred yards, and fourth time
he's been held under twenty five yards rushing in his career. Yeah,
I mean even kind of non threatening. Although I do
love what I see from him. He just he stands
(10:23):
tall in the pocket. I didn't think he was going
to have a great game here, just on the road
with this defense, and it just felt like green Bay.
Green Bay should have won by you know, four touchdowns.
I thought that they were that much better there. John Coon,
who played fullback for the Packers. He's now a broadcaster
(10:44):
in Green Bank.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
He will join his coming.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Up Herm Edwards, who coached Jayden Daniels at Arizona State.
You played to win the game. He'll join us a
little bit later on as well. Eagles, Chiefs, Patriots, Dolphin, Seahawks, Steelers, Broncos, Colts, Falcon, Vikes,
just to name a few. College football, Wisconsin and Alabama.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yikes.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Now, Wisconsin is a big underdog here, but like this
is a must it's a.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Must win situation for Calen Debor.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
All right, Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins against the Patriots, fills
must winnish as well. It's Wisconsin, are they three touchdown
underdogs I got Yeah, they're twenty wow, twenty one point underdogs.
Georgia Tennessee is great and I'd love to have gone
to that game. Arkansas, Oh, miss A and M Notre Dame.
(11:40):
It's not must winnish because your Notre Dame, but A
and M getting six and a half. Wouldn't you like
it if you actually got six and a half like
you walk in and it's A and M six point
five Notre Dame zero. We might get to that one
(12:01):
day with our gambling. Florida against LSU must winish for
Billy Napier even though there's seven point underdogs at LSU
and Vandy South Carolina Spice See Diego Pavilla, Vandy uh
getting three at South Carolina, so just some of the game.
And South Florida, South Florida, my balls, they're well, I
(12:26):
think seventeen and a half point underdogs. So you're saying
we have a chance, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
Make sure you tell everybody it's on the c W. Yeah,
it's right after One Tree Hill CW.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
I never saw One Tree Hill.
Speaker 7 (12:38):
It's like a Dawson's Creek ish type teen drama.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
But Katie Holmes was in Dawson Creek. Yeah, correct, Okay.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
Chad Michael Murray wasn't one Tree Hill.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I met him one time at a celebrity football game,
I think at the Beach Bowl.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Oh, yes, in New York. He's too good looking. Yeah
I was.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
And I'm rushing out because I have to go to
Newark and get on a plane to go to Russia
for the Olympics. And I've got you know, I'm taking
off my microphone and I'm just rushing out.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Because I got to get there.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
There's a charter, they're gonna wait for me, and I'm
walking off and I see him. He goes, hey, I
just wanted to say hell. Oh, now I knew who
he was. And then I go, oh, man, I got
a run to the air I mean, I felt bad
like I was big timing him.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
And uh. Then I tell my daughters and they're.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Like, did you get a picture? I go, well, no,
an autograph? And I go no, I had to rush
to the airport. Well will you see him again? And
I go I don't think so. So they like held
this grudge that I didn't.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
You know, stop and talk to him. Oh these girls.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Never satisfied, all right, we'll get to phone calls coming
up eight seven seven three DP show operator Timer's sitting
by Morales High on this Friday. I feel better than
I did yesterday. I had, I had the flu. I
had reaction from all the vaccines three and out with
my shingles, vaccine, covid and.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Flu and don't do that. By the way.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Results may vary, but man oh man, I was in
bad shape yesterday. But Marvin accurately pointed out a similar
performance to Michael Jordan with the flu game.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (14:26):
I was like, you're Scottie Pivvann holding you up?
Speaker 3 (14:28):
You you were my Scottie Pivot.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
It was more like Judd Buschler. But in my head
I was thinking about Scotty.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
You're Steve Kerr.
Speaker 1 (14:38):

or wherever you get your podcast from.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
A couple of things to consider when you're looking at
the Packers start. They have started two to zero with
wins against teams that won at least twelve games last year.
Only five teams have ever done that. And keep in
mind they didn't win a single game against the team
that won at least eleven games this past season. Stat
(15:58):
of today brought you by Panini America. But you sacked
the quarterback four times. You have twelve quarterback hits and
you're going to have a quarterback who's maybe a little
more nervous there in the pocket. Post game, Packer fans
had a message for Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Oh thank you, Jerry. I know Jerry.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Jerry may still win this, of course, you know everybody
has their opinion on Jerry, and did he win the
trade getting that run stopper. Although they did get a
really good player, I mean they did, but the first
round picks, I don't think we're going to be I know,
maybe they're gonna be looking for another Micah Parsons. I mean,
(16:53):
look at the way the Packers are playing. John Coon
won a couple of Super Bowls and he works with
the Packers. Sideline reporter won a Super Bowl with the
Steelers and the Packers. Good to see you again, John,
How you doing.
Speaker 11 (17:07):
I'm doing great, Dan, Thanks for having me, and first
let me just say I'm glad you're feeling much better
today and bounce back day for you here on a Friday.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Well you've played when you were sick before? Eh?
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
That's what gamers do. That's that's what great ones do.
Did you get a shot?
Speaker 11 (17:27):
No, I never really got a shot while I was
playing in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
But they had these little pills though.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Oh just as good they didn't. They didn't give me
those pills yesterday, John, I should have asked for those
little magic pills. Let me give you the official introduction.
Check out the Tundra Weekly podcast featuring John and discussing
all things Green Bay Packers. Okay, are you tempering your overreaction? Like,
(17:57):
how do you stay grounded that it's early and it's
two wins, but yes, two impressive wins.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Yeah, I'm not grounded at all.
Speaker 11 (18:05):
Damn. I watched this team and listen, I played for
a long time in the NFL, played for a long
time in Green Bay, and I've covered this team now
from the sidelines and in the booth since twenty nineteen,
and I have to tell you I have not seen
a defense rally and attack this football the way that
(18:26):
this Packers defense is doing it this year. And Jordan
Love and the offense, they are still just figuring things out.
And I'm scared to say when this team plays a
complete game what they can actually do.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
I love Josh Jacobs. It's nice to have that run.
I know there's glamorous running backs, but it just feels
like he is He's so Green Bay, especially when you
get down on the goal line. How do you state
equate his value to this team?
Speaker 11 (18:58):
Well, it's really everything last year and now it's taken
the next step this year. Josh Jacobs's resume comes without
saying when he came in last year and he just
built on that throughout the course of the season. The
Packers really leaned on him with the injuries that Jordan
Love had a year ago, and now he has become
a guy where, even if he's not breaking off the
(19:21):
chunk plays, Matt l Floor sticks with him because he knows,
at some point in time in the second half, at
some point in time in the fourth quarter, they're gonna
punch one in there. He's got eleven straight games that
he scored a rushing touchdown. That's a Green Bay Packer record.
And when you set a record for a franchise that's
been around for over one hundred years, you're doing something
pretty special.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
The impact that Micah Parsons has, Granted he's in there
on third down passing downs, but.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Can you overstate his impact?
Speaker 11 (19:51):
Well, I think the easiest way to talk about his
impact is, yeah, you know about the eight sacks, and
I think it's nineteen quarterback hits that this deep defensive
front has. But you see Rashan Gary now has two
and a half sacks in his first two games, Lucas
van Nasa has a sack, Devonte Wyatt has two sacks.
Michael Parsons himself has a sack and a half, and
it's just it's getting to the quarterback in population. It's
(20:14):
not just him wreaking havoc on a on an offensive line.
It's the attention he brings allows others to bring that
same impact, that same ferocious mentality when they when they
line up there on second and third down. And it's
getting to the point now where even kway Walker and
Edrian Cooper and everybody's jumping in, uh and in on
(20:36):
the party here at the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
And Jeff Hafley's got a uh, he's.
Speaker 11 (20:39):
Got a a Schmorgas board of plays that he can
call her knowing that when Michael Parson's out on that field,
anybody can pop from any spot.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Jordan Love in the passing game.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Uh, Like we can nitpick here, But are there any
concerns that you've seen so far through two weeks? Uh?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Very minor.
Speaker 11 (21:01):
Last week against Detroit, he threw two balls, one that
got interception, intercepted, got called back, another one that probably
should have been intercepted.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
He had a fifty to fifty jump ball last night.
Some coaches like that, some coaches don't.
Speaker 11 (21:13):
But in the grand scheme of things, he's completed to
pass this to eleven different receivers already. In this the
receiver with the most receptions is his tight end, Tucker
Craft with I believe it's only eight or nine receptions
right now. He's spreading the ball around and he's doing
it at a high clip. The big yardages aren't there yet,
(21:33):
the touchdowns aren't there yet. But he started both games
so hot against two really big time teams here. I
know there were home games. We're gonna get a lot
more information when we go on the road here in
the coming weeks on what this offense really is and
can this defense travel.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I believe that both of them will.
Speaker 11 (21:51):
I believe that both of them can, And I believe
Jordan Love he doesn't have to carry this football team,
but there are moments that he will still continue to
carry this football team.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Do you think they're the best team in the NFL?
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 11 (22:06):
I think They're on that short list with Buffalo, with Baltimore,
with Philadelphia. I mean I would put those four above
anybody else right now. And coming into the season, there
was a lot of high hopes. There was a lot
of energy about this Packer team. But that traded Michael Parsons,
It seemed to have lifted everybody's play. You're not seeing
(22:27):
the drops, the penalties are less than what they were
a year ago. You're not seeing the mental errors that
you used to see on the defensive side. So it
seems like it feels like everybody was prepared to take
the next step into the season, and Michael Parsons just put.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
A jetback on their back and launched them.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Look at you.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Look how excited you work last night late last night
up all that energy.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
You're like a fan.
Speaker 11 (22:50):
I am a fan, Dan, I am. I'm a fan
of football. I'm a fan of fun, good football, physical football.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
And that's what we have now in Green Bay. And
yes I did. I woke up at six fifty.
Speaker 11 (23:02):
Five this morning and I had a text from my
agent that said, you got to get on the Dan
Patrick Show.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Feeling better and he wants to talk the Packers.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Uh, what's it like to be a green Bay Packer
living in Green Bay?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
It's a special feeling.
Speaker 11 (23:16):
And this goes back to Josh Jacobs, this goes back
to Xavier McKinney, Micah Parsons. I've even seen it in
his short period of time here, the appreciation in the
admiration of the fans is second to none. And listen,
this fan base. We know about all the sellouts, we
know about that season ticket list, but really the way
they treat you on the street, the respect that they
(23:37):
give you, the love that they give you, the passion
that they have cheering for you in the stands. I've
seen Michael Parsons take the field twice now in lambeau Field,
and both times I've watched him do a panoram at
three sixty of the stadium as he walks out there
and here's the chair. You can't help but really love
(23:57):
the appreciation that you are feeling when you walk out there,
and it makes you want to play harder, and it
makes you want to give back to the community as well.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
How vulnerable are the Lions?
Speaker 11 (24:07):
Are the Lions, Well, that's tough. That's one game. It's
really tough. I believe in Dan Campbell. I'm a Dan
Campbell fan. I think he'll get turned around. They're definitely
gonna have to get back in their bag and try
and get their mesh with Johnny mo the offensive coordinator
taken over for Ben Johnson. A lot of checkdowns, but
a lot of those checkdowns last week could have been
(24:29):
simply that the Green Bay Packers were flashing in front
of Jared Goff's face. I think they'll get this thing
figured out, especially when they get at home in the dome.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Give me your favorite Aaron Rodgers story.
Speaker 11 (24:40):
There's a million. I could give you a million Aaron
Rodgers stories. Here's the best one. We're playing at Augusta
And yes, I played Augusta National with Aaron Rodgers. I
had to use him.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
He was my entry.
Speaker 11 (24:51):
You know how people were there's lanyards to get into
the Masters, Well, my lanyard was Aaron Rodgers. So I
wore the Aaron Rodgers lanyard. I got into Augusta. And
he's a much better.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Golfer than I am. Dan a much better golfer, And
we're playing.
Speaker 11 (25:05):
We put a little bit of scratch on the line
and we hit about the turn and I'm up gross
on him by about four or five strokes, and he's
not very happy. He's he's sending t shots into the trees,
left into the trees.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
He's coming out of this thing and he's keeping in there,
but I'm beating him. For the first time.
Speaker 11 (25:23):
He gets so competitive that he doesn't talk to us
for about the first six or seven holes on the
back nine, and we had a good little group of
friends that were golfing there at the time. He battled
his way back and he talked me into a double
bogie on eighteen, so he beat me by one stroke.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
He ever yell at you in the huddle, Yes, yelled.
Speaker 11 (25:45):
At me in the huddle, yelled at me on the
football field. But Dan, I gotta say, I grew up
with Aaron. I was here when Aaron was still backing
up Brett Farres. So because of that, I could yell
back a little bit at him, and I think he
appreciated that. I think expected that, and I think that
was one of the things that he was looking for
when he yelled at other players throughout his career.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Great to talk to you. Glad you're doing well. Thank you, John,

Herm Edwards ESPN football analyst, former NFL college head coach
(26:28):
coach Jayden Daniels at Arizona State for a few years,
and of course played defensive back in the league for
ten seasons. Did you ever trademark you played to win
the game?
Speaker 8 (26:39):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (26:39):
I did not.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
And you know if someone told me to do that,
and I was like.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Ah, man, I'm missed out on that one.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
How often do you hear that in the course of
a day or a week.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
Yeah, every time you're traveling, Right when I go back
to the Worldwide Leader, to the to the mothership in
the airports, Hey coach, And I know, said.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
Dan, I go, I know, I know, I said, I
get it, I get it.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Had you used that line before you got to the
press count, you know, that.
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Just came up, just came out. Just Dan just came out.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
You know.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
It's like and it was funny because we're sitting there.
We're sitting there at two and five. This is my
second season, I think it is, Yeah, and we're struggling,
you know, and they're.
Speaker 8 (27:25):
Talking about you know, am I gonna fire coaches.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
And all that, and so I'm getting rapped up as
the talking and then I just spit it out. I went,
you know, you played it win the game, right? And
so it was on a Tuesday and the players were
off and on Monday they come in. Wednesday, they come
in and they say, coach, we heard what you said.
(27:47):
I'm getting ready to have a team meeting. Chad Pennington
stands up and he goes, coach, we heard what you said.
And I said, are we good? And I looked at
the team and everybody, We're good, Coach. We won the division.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
So it worked.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
It turned around, and I didn't need it for that,
but I just mint it like, hey man, we're trying
to win a game. Guys, I said, it doesn't matter,
did you we ain't gon win a football game?
Speaker 8 (28:12):
And they flipped the switch.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
You know, can you have a must win situation in
week two? Yeah, like the Dolphins situation against the Patriots.
Feels really tenuous here.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
Yeah, they need to they they yeah, because of what
transpired last year, right, and all of a sudden, this
is not the same team we saw three years ago.
Speaker 8 (28:33):
Uh, they're a shell of what they were. And yeah,
I don't think he coach might not make it if
they lose two or three more.
Speaker 12 (28:41):
Him and the guy at the Giants, well, what will happened.
Speaker 8 (28:46):
With the Giants is this? And I said this, what
will happen is if they get to one and three, they're.
Speaker 12 (28:51):
Gonna change the quarterback. They got to because that's the
quarterback of the future. You got to put the guy
in the game. I mean, just put just playing.
Speaker 8 (28:58):
You know.
Speaker 12 (28:58):
That's what I did when I change from Vinnie to Chad.
You know, we were sitting there and then I was
on air We were on airplane. We lost to Cleveland
and we were coming back and I was in the back.
I always hitting the back with the players, and I
told the students, we'll get that packing was the offensive coordinator.
I said, bring it back to the plane's work. We
know we had lost to Jacksonville. I'm sorry, we had
lost to Jacksonville. And he comes back in the back
(29:20):
and I said, I'm to make a change. He said,
what what are we talking about, Coach, I said, we're
gonna change quarterbacks.
Speaker 8 (29:25):
Win, I said, this week, I said, we're putting ten
in the game.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
That was Chad, and then we ended up getting in
the playoffs winning ten games.
Speaker 8 (29:33):
Yeah, beat you.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Now was Chad? How long had he been in the league.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
He been in the league about two years, the second
year because Bill drafted him.
Speaker 8 (29:43):
But Vinnie was still there.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
And I got there and Vinnie started the first year
and we got in the playoffs. And in the second
year we were shaky and then I said, you know what,
we got to change and I put him in and
we ended up.
Speaker 8 (29:54):
That's the year we want a division.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
But see, that's where I don't know. I'd like Jackson Darden.
I think he's a starter in the league. Think he's
got a lot of talent.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I just don't know if if he's ready, well, I
don't know if the team is ready for him to
go in and that he doesn't, you know, get I
don't want his confidence crashed now.
Speaker 6 (30:12):
You know what though if people say that Dan and
I get all that, but you know, there's the reason
you drafted this guy to high and I go, you
know what, Peyton Manning through twenty eight interceptions.
Speaker 8 (30:21):
Guys his first year.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
And if you draft a guy when you think he's
going to crack.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
Under pressure, you drafted the wrong guy. You can't draft
that guy. That's the first thing you've got to understand.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
But I'm not talking about cracking under pressure as much
as you know, if you don't have the offensive line
blocking for you, or you don't have no doubt, run.
Speaker 8 (30:38):
No down but you know and correct.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
But the first thing you do, basically is when this happens,
and what I've done.
Speaker 12 (30:48):
I walk in the defensive room and tell him, say,
I'm getting ready to put him in the game. And
I said, let me tell you what he's gonna do.
He's gonna throw the ball to the bad guys. He
ain't gonna be to do it.
Speaker 8 (30:58):
He gonna throw it. When he throws it to him,
hold him to a field goal. So don't get mad.
And it started up when that happens the decause.
Speaker 6 (31:05):
The players come off the field they God, you told
us it's okay, We're all right.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
I said that told you this week in practice, go
to the bad guys.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
One thing I don't understand is, and we saw this
with Jordan Love last night.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
He lowers his shoulder.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah, I'm sure you told your quarterbacks get out of bounds, slide.
That's September. Why did these guys feel like they need
to be football players?
Speaker 8 (31:31):
I have no idea.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
And it's almost like you tell them, hey man, look, look,
knowing the journey's over, slide or get.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
Out of bounds, just don't don't we know you're a
tough guy. You play quarterback. You gotta be tough to
play quarterback because you get hit a lot. But don't
don't run into guys, I said, I will tell I
tell this quarterback. Protect your you're throwing shoulder.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
You always make sure when you get tackled, protect that
because you got to play the next flat.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
He lowered his throwing the shoulder.
Speaker 8 (31:59):
I know they're going to show that if this.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
Is one of those moments where when you get into
film study, you put this on tape for everybody, for
the whole team to watch. You go, you see our quarterback,
he's a tough guy. Okay, you're showing everybody you're tough.
Speaker 8 (32:13):
I don't want to see this again.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
You play to play another play?
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Yes, yes, we're talking to herm Edwards ESPN football analysts.
When do you get a true sense of how good
or bad your team is? Like how many games for you?
Speaker 8 (32:32):
I would say with the schedule.
Speaker 6 (32:34):
Now, after a month of football, you've got a pretty
good feeling of kind of what you are. And then
your question is this, how do we how do we
adjust to the players we have and what do we need.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
To do different? If you're struggling, right.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
And that's that first month you're gonna find out all
of war when you after a month you go, okay,
here's the deal.
Speaker 8 (32:55):
If you're one and three, you're going, okay, why are
we one and three?
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (32:59):
You know what is the what is what is our
first of all? What is our strength?
Speaker 12 (33:04):
Let's play to our strength now because we're not gonna
get any new players.
Speaker 8 (33:08):
These are the guys we got. So what is our strength?
What do we do?
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Well?
Speaker 6 (33:11):
I know we want to do this on offense. I
know we want to do that on defense. We've done
it for a month. Boys, that ain't working. This is
what you're telling your stat So we.
Speaker 8 (33:18):
Got to fix this. It's our job to fix.
Speaker 12 (33:20):
It now because we're stuck with these players, and these
players are stuck with us. So how do we fix it?
And that's what you go about doing.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Then, if the Packers played the Eagles today, who would win?
Speaker 8 (33:31):
Probably the Packers?
Speaker 12 (33:33):
Okay, I think the Packers are really good, Dan, I
think people lose sight of the Packers of this sense.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
I'm gonna say this to me. They were fifth in
total defense last year. People don't realize that they were fifth.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
You know, when you think the Packers, you think of
this offense Oh boy, they got a really good defense.
They do a nice job of taking the ball away.
And here's the crazy part. Last year they were eighth
in the league in sacks.
Speaker 8 (33:59):
They had four.
Speaker 6 (34:01):
They got this guy number one. Now they gave him
the number of Lambeau or Curly Lambou.
Speaker 8 (34:08):
They let him use the number.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
Now they've gone from a forty five sacked team to
a sixty plus sacked.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
Team with that guy number one.
Speaker 12 (34:16):
They're a totally different defense now with him.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
But the Eagle, I still have to trust the Eagles
and Chiefs until they lose.
Speaker 12 (34:25):
I trust them, but I worry about this. The Eagles
lost some players, right, they lost some guys. Now, okay,
and every week we went through this. When when I
was with the Eagles, when we went to the super Bowl,
we didn't win, but we lost.
Speaker 6 (34:42):
The next year was very difficult because you get everybody's
best game because you're the Super Bowl guys, and every
week it's like a playoff team and it's just wears
you down.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
It's like, man, every week we're taking.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
These body blows, you know well, and it's because can
they get through it?
Speaker 8 (35:02):
I'm hoping they do. But I like Green Bay.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
Green Bay is kind of sitting there and I don't
know if the Green Bay Packers are going to lose
a game at home.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
What concerned you about Jaden Daniels and the Commanders last night?
Speaker 8 (35:17):
Oh? Well, they couldn't you know.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
They they they bottled Jade up as something he didn't
have the big explosive runs that generally that that that
he's capable of, of of of garnering when he plays.
Speaker 8 (35:31):
They didn't allow the run.
Speaker 6 (35:33):
Game to get started, right, And all of a sudden,
Washington was and they pressured him.
Speaker 12 (35:38):
They pressured him nice, and he was he was. He
wasn't very accurate at times when they pressured him right, So.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
There was no explosive plays. Gently Washington has explosive plays.
They have big now they the good thing he washed us.
They got Debo going, which is good. That's a good thing.
They got him involved in the offense. But it was
one of those games. I didn't think they were going
to beat green Bank in Green Bay. Yeah, it's too
hard to play him there.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
It's just this.
Speaker 8 (36:04):
And now they got that guy number one, Parsons, old boy.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Who's she reminded you of.
Speaker 8 (36:13):
He can wreck the game.
Speaker 12 (36:14):
He reminds me now I don't think he's this physical,
but Lawrence Taylor, Lawrence Taylor was a physical I mean
we used to play twice a year old boy, and
he used to.
Speaker 6 (36:27):
Lie I remember one time we were playing him at Philly.
Speaker 8 (36:31):
He lies up and there on the right side and
his third down.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
And he's scra and he's going, Jaws, I'm coming to
get you and I'm running, Bud.
Speaker 8 (36:41):
This is not good.
Speaker 12 (36:43):
Six is man.
Speaker 8 (36:45):
We try to block him, We try to chick him.
You can't block this guy.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
Man.
Speaker 8 (36:50):
He was. He was unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
He was just like when he got going, it was
like lights out, lights out, man, he gonna close the
game out, you know.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
And Jaws camp run.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
No Jolls couldn't run. J'all's trying to waddle around. I'm
just get down. Throw the ball away, man, don't let
it hit you.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
And there's only a couple of those players. That's why
when when Green Bay made the deal, I thought they
paid a little too much individually for Michael Parsons. But
you're still getting how many guys change a game aside
from a quarterback, truly change a game every single play.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
You have to know where that guy is.
Speaker 8 (37:32):
No, you're right, and and what they do.
Speaker 6 (37:33):
And I just mentioned this name as well, Reggie White, right,
Reggie Wikee was in Philly before he went to green Back.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
I think he might be the greatest defensive player in history.
Speaker 8 (37:41):
Unbelievable, unbelieved. He came out of the World League or
whatever that.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
League was, and marfl usfl right, they had so many leagues.
I forget all the names of them, but then and
then he was. He was unbelievable, you know, And.
Speaker 8 (37:54):
You know and and you know he's a he's a preacher,
you know.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
And I remember he would sat guys and he would
go and he'd pick him up, you know, he lift
him up and he says, you know, make God bless
you today.
Speaker 8 (38:07):
This boy something. But he is really something. He was
a great player. He was a great player and a
great human being.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
God blessed you, Reggie, not me getting sacked. Yes, did
you ever get any of footballs you have? I don't
know how many footballs you have behind you? Did you
get any of the interceptions signed by the quarterback who
threw it?
Speaker 8 (38:28):
I did not, And you know what, I'm glad you
asked this question.
Speaker 12 (38:30):
So the first one, the first my first NFL interception
was in Los Angeles against.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
The Rams, and you know who the quarterback was, Joe
Willie Namath.
Speaker 8 (38:41):
I have the ball right here, Dan, I got the ball.
So here's the funny part. I'm a rookie. I intercept
the ball. They bring the ball to the silid and
I keep it.
Speaker 6 (38:51):
They put the paper around it, right and so at
the end of the game, you know, we're.
Speaker 8 (38:55):
In the coliseum then and we're walking out of the
tell and I.
Speaker 6 (38:57):
Have this ball and I I looked at some of
the vets, I said, you think of my ask.
Speaker 8 (39:04):
No, man, don't ask him to do that. But I
got the ball painted up. But this is Joe Willie. Man,
this is my first NFL in assession because Joe.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Navy and you know Joe would sign that now.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
Oh you know it.
Speaker 6 (39:16):
You know.
Speaker 12 (39:16):
It was funny because when I became the head coach
of the Jets, he came to the press conference.
Speaker 6 (39:21):
And I told him, I said, you know, and he goes, no,
I know you intercept.
Speaker 8 (39:25):
Me said, yeah, I got the ball at the house.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
You should have brought it to the press conference.
Speaker 8 (39:30):
I thought he was gonna come.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Hey, great to talk to you as always. Uh, have
fun at the Mothership save travels.
Speaker 8 (39:38):
I will my friend, thank you Bardoner.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
That's HERM. Edwards
