Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Man, I love the NFC South because I have no
idea who's good in the NFC South. If I was
ever going to take a head coaching job, it would
be in the NFC South because it feels like first
team to nine wins gets to win the division. The
Falcons come back and surprise the Buccaneers twenty nine to
twenty eight. Tampa is now seven and seven. They have
(00:27):
two games against the pesky Carolina Panthers coming up to
end their season. But wow, a fourteen point comeback in
the fourth quarter. Here's Baker Mayfield taking the blame.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Disappointing obviously, but falls on my shoulders. Can't turn the
ball over, can't have that interception, got to hit mec
and stride on that third down. Listen, you can say
what you want about being up two scores and the
defense right there, but we have to be better on
offense and it comes down to how I play.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
This one's gonna hnt me.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
This falls on my shoulders. The NFL is offering yet
another reminder of why those early season proclamations those hot
takes age about as well as milk does. Let's go
back in September. All the Buccaneers there are force in
the NFC. You had analyst experts. They thought the Buccaneers
were going to rep the NFC in the Super Bowl.
(01:21):
Baker Mayfield MVP buzzing. They were six and two, they
were ready to go. They had an offense, they had experience,
they have a gritty, gutty quarterback. Well, after going six
and two, they're now seven and seven, beaten up, inconsistent,
and searching for answers. How about the Colts. Let's go
(01:41):
back to September. Oh, they had a great start. Then
they had injuries, erratic play, and now they might have
a forty four year old former quarterback now current quarterback
playing against Seattle. Eight and five suddenly find themselves staring
up in their own division, a reminder that momentous to
him is the NFL's most fickle currency. And then you
(02:04):
have the Texans left for dead at three and five.
They've won five in a row. H that's the league
in a nutshell right there. The beginning rarely matches the ending.
In this year's plot, twist is arriving right on schedule. Yes, Todd,
we wasn't that the.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Colt team that kept scoring constantly and never punted for
like three straight weeks.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Now that, yeah, it was long ago. That's why everybody
wants to have a hot take. You got to get
it out there. In September October, there's an ebb and flow.
There's a roller coaster ride for just about every team.
You know, the Patriots they have two losses. Do you
know one of those losses was to the Raiders, once
(02:44):
again trying to figure this out. And that's one of
those where you go, man, the Raiders might be a
little bit better than we thought. Oh, Patriots aren't gonna
be as good as we thought. It's reactionary. It's week
to week, and you get some of these teams that
figure it out. They get healthy. And I thought Tampa
Bay getting Mike Evans back, they got Bucky Irvin back. Okay,
(03:05):
you should win this game. But in the NFC South,
and I say this every single year, it's the team
that shouldn't win a game wins the game. It's like
the Saints against the Buccaneers last week. I said they
shouldn't win, but they will. The Falcons they shouldn't win,
but they will. And then you look at the Falcons.
(03:27):
The Falcons are really the poster children of what could
be and what really is. Whenever you watch them, you
go Kyle Pitts, God, why can't he do this all
the time? By Jon Robinson, why can't he do this
all the time? Because then you watch them, they give
and then they take it the way Kyle Pitts injured
(03:47):
or doesn't play that well Bjeon Robinson fumbles, you got
the Michael Pennock situation. Now kirkde Cousins comes in and
he played pretty well last night, certainly in the first half.
But you look at the Falcons are all going to
be a mystery to me because it feels like every year,
I feel like, man, this could be the year, and
this could be the year. They're kind of like my
(04:08):
South version of the Chargers, like this could be although
the Chargers have been better than the Falcons, but I
hold out hope that maybe this is the year. And
then you realize it's not the year, and it's not
revisionist history when you look at the Falcons with the
Michael Pennox draft pick, because you had a guy who
got banged up when he was at Indiana and then
(04:30):
he went to Washington and he played really well and
you're playing in the playoffs, and the Falcons decide, hey,
we brought in Kirk Cousins and we spent over one
hundred million dollars guaranteed, we can't pass up on this guy.
It's rare when you have a quarterback where you go,
I can't pass up on this guy. Because every year
(04:52):
we're seeing more and more quarterbacks that we go, oh
Man Mendoza, right, I can't pass up on him. Dante
Moore can't pass up on him. Well, you can. You
just got to make sure you get the right quarterback
at the right time and you don't spend a lot
of draft capital to get him. But I'm still puzzled
(05:15):
by the Michael Pennox and maybe maybe he turns out
to be a quality quarterback. He's not better than Kirk Cousins,
but he is your future. But he's not even able
to play, and Cousins, I think, is under contract for
one more year. I just that one felt like, oh
my god, he's still on the board, let's take him.
(05:36):
And that's what makes the Falcons puzzling, still waiting for
them to maybe get a really, really good defensive player
because it seems like, what is it John Abraham? Is
that the last great defensive player that I know? Because
I always go, man, they could use a couple of
really good defensive players. But the offense last night, you
(05:59):
come back from fourteen down, you end up winning it
at the buzzer. I'll give credit, you know, to the
Falcons there, but I got to give a lot of
blame to the Buccaneers. You're at home? What are you doing?
Come on? Yeah, Marvin, that John Abraham reference was great.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
That was better than mine. I was gonna say Cornelia's Bennett?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Okay? I mean, was that Corney Bennett after the Colts
or after the Bills? Oh? Bills? Didn't he go Bills
and Colts?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:26):
He lost five Super Bowls? Has he lost more Super
Bowls than anybody? Wow?
Speaker 5 (06:33):
Well, I think so.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I didn't think we were going to talk about the
former Alabama linebacker Cornelius Bennett. Sorry cornelis Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:40):
All right?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Eight seven seven three DP show operators sitting by. We'll
come up with the poll question here Army Navy on Saturday,
and Navy is favored I think by six and a half.
There is no updates here on Sharon Moore he's going
to be in court today, but you're starting to hear
dribs and drabs, And I want to be fair to
the story because it's obviously very serious and it feels
(07:06):
like there is some reporting, but there's a lot of
it is just sort of salacious stuff, So I want
to be fair. I want to be careful with this. Also,
no decision on Philip Rivers' status. This is wishful reporting, right,
this is prime wishful reporting because nobody has anything that's definitive.
But you'll get the following. You know, Philip Rivers is
(07:29):
trending to start against Seattle. What does that mean? Is
that a report? Then that's he's going to start, barring
any setback. He's starting, feels now. I would love for
him to start. I'd love for him to play, you know,
no matter what happens, and good or bad, it's an
interesting story. It's a story in a game that I
(07:51):
wouldn't normally care about, and now I do. Like shud
Or Sanders playing against the Bears in Chicago, against Caleb Williams,
Miles Garrett trying to you know, chase down the sacrec
you know, I'm going to care about that game. A
little bit more this time of the year, you're looking for.
There was no reason to watch last night. I mean
(08:13):
it was a standalone game. It's the NFL, and you
might have fantasy or betting on the game, but you
didn't tune in to go, well, this is going to
be a great You probably thought, all right, Tampa's gonna
win it twenty seven to seventeen, and then all right,
we'll move on, and then all of a sudden you
get a great fourth quarter. It becomes must see TV.
I'm always looking for what is the game or games
(08:35):
that I'm interested coming up this weekend? And sometimes that's
really hard. You know, Bill's and the Patriots awesome, Jets
and Jags. No, I'm unless the Jets play well here,
which maybe they do. They're thirteen and a half point underdogs,
Browns Bears. You know, the Ravens and the Bengals. The
(08:57):
Ravens are favored in Cincinnati after Cincinnati beat the Ravens
in Baltimore, Cardinals and the Texans know, Chargers, Chiefs. Yes,
the Raiders against the Eagles. Can you imagine if the
Eagles would lose that game? Now you can't say no chance.
I mean the Raiders have one, well, they have two players,
(09:18):
Max Crosby and Rock Bowers's that's it right now. Oh
my god, the sky would be falling if but it
already feels like it's falling in Philadelphia. Here it's falling
on the shoulders of Jalen Hurts. Here is the Eagles
quarterback on bouncing back.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
Success or greatness, those things aren't in near. You have
your ups, you have your downs. With Sabay, you respond
to it, and I think about think about that. I mean,
it's nothing new that I haven't faced before. Some matter
of responding to it, and I got a lot of
confidence how we respond. I've got a lot of confidence
how we go.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Okay, it feels like everybody wants to blame somebody, and
I think there's blame to go around here. But I
can't have all of this fall on jail. Jalen Hurts
is the quarterback that I think we think he is.
During the regular season, put him in a big game.
He's been very good. He's been great. So I can't
(10:15):
go what the defense is figured out to allow him
to throw the ball more and they can't run the football. Okay,
it's that simple. Jalen Hurts is not going to beat
you from the pocket too many times if he's throwing
the ball over thirty times forty times. I got to
look at the coach, an offensive coordinator, the scheme of
(10:38):
what you're doing. Now, you have a luxury. They had
a luxury of a great offensive line. They could run
the football. Running the football sets up play action. You've
got two really good receivers, You've got a really good
tight end, and you even have a running back who
can catch the ball out of the backfield. So something
is missing there. And I would start with the offensive line,
(10:58):
but to put this on Jalen Hurts And all of
a sudden, go, coach, you thought about benching Jalen Hurts
and putting in Tanner McGee or McKee, doesn't matter, Like,
what are we doing? Where else would this happen? Somebody
(11:19):
has a couple of Super Bowl appearances, wins the Super
Bowl as an MVP, and then all of a sudden,
you go, are you thinking of uh benching Patrick mahomes? Hey,
Now this happened with Tom Brady. This I might have
been twenty fifteen.
Speaker 7 (11:35):
You mean the year of falling off the cliff.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, might have been the Max Kellerman Tom Brady falling
off the cliff. But somebody asked Belichick if he thought
about benching Brady and then putting in Jimmy Garoppolo. Uh,
I guess you have to ask the question. But I
mean I wouldn't I wouldn't recommend doing that. But that
(12:00):
seems like, are you really giving this great thought that
you're going to put in Tanner McKee over Jalen Hurts. Oh,
maybe you sit him down and let him what? Let
him what? Watch Tanner play?
Speaker 8 (12:16):
Yeah, the media replaced Tom Brady with seven different quarterbacks.
There was no more popular topic than going from the
hunky Tom Brady that to the hunky Jimmy Garoppolo. It
was like the most obvious switch in the world. Everybody
wanted that to happen. Yeah, probably except for Patriots fans.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Some of the other games Titans Niners, No, you know, Panthers, Saints.
Here we go NFC South Saints at home, Rams Lions.
That's juicy. Vikings Cowboys is interesting because we're still trying
to figure out where these teams are going to be
headed for next year. Seems like the Cowboys are in
(12:57):
a pretty good position here and the Vikings let me
see JJ McCarthy do it back to back weeks, the
Dolphins at the Steelers, the JJ Watt situation. JJ Watt
goes in for t J Watt goes in for treatment
and next thing you know, he's in the hospital because
he's got something going on with his lung and he
(13:18):
didn't go in for treatment for something in his lungs.
I have no update on that. I haven't seen anything,
but that's kind of strange. Was it a Tyrod Taylor?
Didn't he get a punctured lung? He got a shot
before a game, and then Justin Herbert had to come
in and play and never look back. Yes, Tom's like
the twelfth Man.
Speaker 7 (13:38):
Your own doctor is going against the other team and
your own medicals.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Then allegedly Todd if that.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
But it is a lung shot that he's gonna be
able to play. That's a nice start.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
It's insensitive, though.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I was gonna throw in a Jethrow Tall aquaalung, but
you know that probably bench running down his nose. Jethrow
Tall did have a couple of bangers, as we like
to say, there were a couple of albums, rare flute
laden banger in Tights there's not. There's not often.
Speaker 8 (14:17):
Yeah, that you can see the little Robin Hood dude
comes out like I know.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
I do this, you know, it's like Peter Pan. He
comes out swirling out into the middle of the stage
of this flute. Yeah, mosh pit. I never saw Jethroe.
They're still touring. I think I never saw Jethrow Tall.
(14:44):
Didn't they give us thick as a brick and Aqualung
That are two of the two of the great albums
rock albums of all time.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
Yes, when I was a kid and I heard about
Jethrow Tall.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
They running down his nose.
Speaker 7 (14:58):
They would say, like they're on tour.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
He's on tour.
Speaker 7 (15:01):
I always thought jeth Otall. It sounds like eleven with
a person.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
No, because it's Ian Anderson. Is Jethrow Tall?
Speaker 7 (15:07):
Very confusing?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Yeah, the band is Jethrow Tall. Okay, it's a Friday.

I can't go a week without talking to Ross Tucker.
I can't end my week without talk talking to Ron Tucker.
It's a Meet Friday Ross Tucker, the Ross Tucker Football Podcast.
You can follow him on social media at Ross Tucker NFL.
He's in the booth for the Jets in the Jags
Sunday kickoff at one eastern on CBS. Okay, sell me
on this matchup here, Ross.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Well, first of all, welcome to my lovely hotel room
in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm about to go to production meetings
and Dan. I don't know what they're doing these days,
but the desk is so small I can't put the
microphone on the desk, so I'm holding it here like
I'm a Bob Barker something.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
It looks like you're doing stand up here.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Like Fritzy. Maybe I'll tell you on the matchup. I
got two things for you. Number one is the Jacksonville
Jaguars are good. The Jacksonville Jaguars are legitimately good and
in fact their first place in the AFC South. But
nobody's talking about them. I mean, everybody's talking about the
tech and their defense and all these games they've won
(17:02):
in a row, and everyone's talking about Philip Rivers and
the Colts. The Jaguars are just down here in Northeast Florida,
just winning games, winning a bunch of games in a row,
playing really well on both sides of the ball. They
got a great chance to win double digit games for
the first time since twenty seventeen. They have a legit
good squad, So that's number one. And they took it
(17:25):
to the Colts last week. From the Jets perspective, man,
it was bad last week against the Dolphins. It looks
like Brady Cook, the undrafted rookie free agent, is gonna
get his first NFL start, which I love, Dan, I
love you know. There's not that many people in the
history of the world that can say they start an
NFL game. I like he's getting this opportunity. Who knows.
(17:47):
Maybe he's awesome, Maybe he plays great for my sake
calling the game, I hope he plays great. I'm looking
forward to meeting him tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Okay, are you looking forward to that more than you are?
Philip Rivers? Maybe playing against Seattle?
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Yes, because that's the game I'm doing. Ok Yes, but
no I am. I mean, like everybody else fascinated by
the Philip Rivers thing. You know, a lot of teams
Dan over the years have reached out to me to
come out of retirement. But I just didn't think it
was fair to my wife and daughters to reset my
Hall of Fame clock. Oh you know. I mean they've
(18:24):
been waiting seventeen years already, and so for me to
come out of retirement at forty six and have to
make them wait five more years for me to be eligible.
I mean twenty two years is asking a lot of
my family and friends to wait for my Hall of
Fame induction.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Oh that's what makes you Father of the Year unbelievable.
Why do you offensive Lineman go sleeveless in cold weather.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
It's a mindset thing, It's a mentality thing. Sleeves are soft.
There's no other way around it. You are sending a
mess to the other team that you are soft, that
you're not tough enough if you wear sleeves. I played
in Buffalo a bunch of games, played New England.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
A little bit.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
You absolutely positively cannot wear sleeves. Plus, by the way,
it does give them something to grab. And if you're
really that worried about the cold, you can put a
thin layer of asaline on your skin, which, by the way,
does help protect your skin. You know, ironically, Dan, this
is the truth. Okay, the coldest game I ever played,
(19:32):
and I believe it's one of the five coldest game
in games in Bill's history. You're gonna appreciate this. It
was at Cincinnati. It was at the Bengals. I had
no way. It was two thousand and four. Look it up.
I had no idea it got that cold in Cincinnati.
I come out before the game and Chad Ocho Cinco
is like, hey, buddy, you better put a long sleeve
(19:54):
shirt on because I was sleeveless. It was freezing. Here's
how cold it was, Dan. After that game, you couldn't
take a hot shower to start because it stung your wind.
Burnt skin that bad. You started with a cold shower,
then you worked your way up to like lukewarm, and
(20:15):
then you got to a little bit warm. Otherwise I
don't understand the science, but the hot water on your
frost bit wind burnt skin, it was like it would
sting unbelievably painfully.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
My takeaway from that story is Ocho Cinco didn't know
your name.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
That's that's probably factual. Yeah, yes, do you think Ocho
Cinco knew a lot of the starting with guards? Now, hey,
guess what, Ocho Cinco? We won, you lost, So maybe
you should have known my.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Name, don't you know? Didn't you know that the coldest
game in any right now?
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Chargers Chargers playoff game, Dan Fouts, I know, Okay, I
still wasn't thinking that when you come down from Buffalo.
This Cincinnati is like northern Kentucky, I mean Cincinnati, like
people have a fake Southern accent some of them.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Okay, but is Buffalo really cold or does Buffalo just
have a lot of snow?
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Both and Buffalo has a lot of wind. There was
a game, Dan, I'm not kidding you where our kicker
was Ryan Lindell, And I'm on the field goal extra
point team. And let's say it was like a thirty
eight yarder. He kicked the ball. It probably got to
like the goal line, and then there was a huge
gust of wind. It blew back like a boomerang and
(21:33):
landed three feet from my feet, and the refs were
still underneath the goalpost going no good, like, yeah, no kidding, buddy,
it almost hit me, No kidding, It was no good.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
How do you explain the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
Wow, that was that was rough. You know, I've never
seen so many things that happened. Last night a team
had nineteen penalties and they won the game. You know,
the Bucks are up by two touchdowns late. It feels
like they're finally gonna break out of this funk. You know,
it makes these two.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
The penalties were declined. I think the NFL record is
twenty three penalties, so they were called for twenty two,
but three of them declined.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
Unbelievable. And then Kyle Pitts, who hasn't done this in years.
They have no Drake Lundon. Kyle Pitts, All of a sudden,
the guy you should be most worried about, I guess
he comes out lights him up. Kirk Cousins for some reason,
has Todd Bowle's number just a devastating loss for the
Bucks the only saving grace and it doesn't make him
feel better about it right now. But they play the
(22:42):
Panthers two out of the last three weeks. You know,
if they beat the Panthers head to head in both
those games, they're still gonna win the division. And last night,
I guess becomes irrelevant.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Yeah, but is there a bigger picture here that maybe
you do sneak in because it's the NFC South, But
moving forward, how long is Mike Evans going to be
able to play? Is Todd Bowle's job safe even if
you make the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Well, people are gonna ask that anytime there's a collapse
like this, and I think, big picture, it's hard to
picture the Bucks having any chance whatsoever in the playoffs.
You know, I would have said earlier in the season, Hey, Dan,
they got Baker, they got those receivers, they got a
puncher's chance. You know, they can win shootouts. They're not
(23:30):
really playing that way. Baker's not playing as well as
he did earlier in the year. Even as they're getting
guys back to health, they don't look quite the same
on the offensive side of the ball, and they're light
years worse than like the Rams and Seahawks. I mean
to me, those are easily the two best teams in
the NFL right now, and it's right now hard to
(23:51):
picture anybody from the NFC, you know, knocking those two
teams off. I guess the Eagles have the talent to
do it, but certainly they're going to have to play
a lot better than they have been to have a
chance against those two teams.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Talking to Ross Tucker and the Ross Tucker Football Podcast,
and he'll be in the booth for the Jets and Jags.
That'll be Sunday on CBS at one eastern. You know,
the finger pointing, maybe it's time to sit down, Jalen
Hurts and still not sure. Was that a fair question
to ask, Nick Sirianni, have you thought about benching Jalen Hurts?
Speaker 5 (24:27):
I think it is a fair question to ask, and
I think it's fair to answer it the way Siriani?
Did you know? The thing about Philadelphia is there's not
only a very high standard, but there's a track record
of backup quarterbacks playing really well. You know, the first
time they ever won a super Bowl was their backup quarterback.
(24:48):
Now that was because Carson Wentz got hurt. But Nick
Foles went in there and led them to the super Bowl.
So I think there are going to be people there
that have said, Okay, it's been four or five games
now for Hurts where he hasn't played well. Tanner McKee
has lit it up every time he's got an opportunity.
(25:09):
This is the window for the Eagles. This is where
they have the great receivers, the great tight end, the
great running back, the awesome defense, the offensive line. This
is the window, and maybe McKee gives him a better
chance to win. I don't believe that. I highly doubt
they would bench Jalen Hurts for a million different reasons.
But I do think you know, if Hurts has two
(25:30):
more games in a row where he has five turnovers,
you know, then it might be a more legitimate question.
I don't think that's gonna happen. He typically doesn't turn
it over. And I had a much different takeaway Dan
from that game Monday night to everybody else. I mean,
Hurts had five turnovers. AJ Brown had two or three drops.
They had a couple of devastating penalties, one took a
(25:51):
touchdown off the board, Jake Elliott misses a forty eight
yard field goal. If any one of those things doesn't happen,
they still win the game. So they would have won
a game at the LA Chargers, a good team with
a quarterback having four turnovers. You know, they moved it better.
Hurts through for two forty could have been three hundred.
Saquan ran for one to twenty. I actually came away
(26:12):
from that game better than I did against the Bears
and the Cowboys when for six quarters they couldn't do
anything offensively. You know, turnovers are high variants, They're not
gonna happen all the time. Just not being able to
move the ball at all, because you can't do anything
on offense, that would be more concern to me than
sort of a flute game where the quarterback has a
bunch of turnovers.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
More important game Lions Rams, Packers, Broncos, Patriots, Bills.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
So the most important of those three games in terms
of a team making the playoffs is Lions Rams. The
Lions really need to win that game to make the
playoffs and have a chance. I think in terms of
the Super Bowl, I'll say probably the Patriots and the
You know, if the Patriots win that, man, they got
(27:03):
a great chance to be the number one seed. Two
home games in New England. And I'll tell you the
difference in my mind, Dan, between the Broncos and the Patriots.
The Broncos are a good team, winning close games, really
good defense. The Patriots have an MVP caliber quarterback. You know,
he hasn't done it in the postseason yet, But if
(27:24):
you're talking about winning big games in the postseason, I
don't have a lot of doubt about Drake May right now.
And I think they would be the favorite in my
mind if they're the number one seed for just Drake
May to play well in two home playoff games go
to the Super Bowl. Now, if they lose this one
to the Bills, then it's going to be a battle
just to win the AFC East, and that's gonna leave
(27:48):
some doubt about whether or not Drake May and the
Patriots are ready to beat these type of teams in
the postseason.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Well, Vegas is already saying that they doubt the Patriots
and they out the Broncos. Yeah, because Buffalo Road team favored,
Packers road team favored.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
And I think so much of that is just the quarterback.
And because the Broncos and Patriots have no recent playoff pedigree.
You know, I always wonder about stuff like that. Dan
is like, how much of that is the pros, you know,
the guys like Steve Ezick on my even Money betting podcast,
And how much of that is just the public saying
(28:29):
I don't care what I'm taking Jordan Love and the
Packers over bow Knicks and the Broncos, or I don't
care what their record is, I'm taking Josh Allen and
the Bills over Drake May. I think if you look
at it, people talk about public and non public teams.
When I look at the betting line, a lot of times,
it feels like people are just betting on quarterbacks. I mean,
(28:51):
the Chiefs are last I checked, five and a half
point favorites over the Chargers. Despite all evidence to the contrary,
people are still gonna put the money on Patrick Mahomes
and the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I would too, bet You're right, there's only a couple
of quarterbacks. And speaking of quarterbacks, Joe Burrow got dark
on a Wednesday with that press conference and what he
was saying, and I brought it up in the moment
it felt like you get to that Andrew Luck. And
Andrew Luck was twenty nine. Joe Burrow just turned twenty nine,
(29:23):
and all of a sudden, what you've done for most
of your life you're not enjoying anymore. And do I
want to continue to do this and all the injuries
and the rehab and you know, not being in big
games anymore? What do you take away from that in
the moment, something or something larger?
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Multiple things. I would say number one is Joe Burrow
has always struck me as a guy that absolutely loves football,
like loves it. So it's a little bit startling to
hear him talk like that. And I would say, unexpect
did you know? I will say it's Rehabbing is not
fun and losing is not fun. So I do think
(30:07):
that there's a point where you say, Okay, I'm getting
the crap beat out of me. I've already made plenty
of money, we're losing. I don't want to have injuries
that really adversely affect the rest of my life. Those
are all possibilities, Dan I tend to think that Burrow
would want to go somewhere else or force his way
(30:29):
out of Cincinnati before he would retire. Now, that's a
tough organization to force your way out of. Obviously, we've
seen it happen before with Carson Palmer, and maybe he's
just mentally beat down. But I think the Andrew Luck
thing was more of this physical and mental exhaustion. I
don't get the sense that Burrow's there yet. I think
(30:50):
he'd probably rather go somewhere else and see what it's
like somewhere else before he would hang him up.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
He loves football because he back, he rehabbed to get
back to this point in the season. Yeah, that tells
you an awful lot about him. But then that, you know,
contrasts that with the way he sounded on Wednesday. That
sound like somebody who was beaten and broken. And you know,
if they win that game against Buffalo, is he having
(31:20):
fun still? It was you throw two interceptions and you
lose in Buffalo and what am I doing here?
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Every aspect of it was strange. Maybe he's just having
a bad day. I mean, someone asked if it was
team related to personal He said all the above. You know,
you never know what's going on with guys, you know,
behind the scenes or personal or whatever. It's hard to
extrapolate too much from it unless he actually spells it out,
and maybe there will be reports after the season that
(31:50):
he's unhappy looking to move. It's funny because one of
the first things I read prepping for you know, this
game on Sunday was the Jets should do whatever they
can to call the Bengals and try to trade for
Joe Burrow, you know, and by the way, they absolutely should.
I mean they should call the Bengals and say, hey,
is he really that a man?
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Wait, Joe Burrow feels bad enough, that's not that's not fairer,
And you can't go, Hey, I got good news. We're
gonna send you to the Jets. Do you love football
now a little bit more?
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Hey? Maybe he could be the one to break this
out of this playoff street for the Jets.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
He'll be in the booth for the Jets and Jags.
Make sure you tune in early because we want to
see you when you welcome us into the game, right,
you get your camera time.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
That's a terrific point. Dan. For one o'clock games, we
do our on camera open at twelve fifty three, yep,
and then there's like a commercial and then so I
just don't. I know everybody right now is putting the
note in their phone at one o'clock to see me
on TV. Put it in for twelve fifty My mom
(32:58):
and or wife are devastated when they forget about that.
They literally, Dan only watched the first two minutes of
the game to see me on camera. You did a
great job. The game didn't start yet, That's all.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
I'm gonna be watching as well, just to let you know.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
Listen, I need to talk to the folks at CBS
and the analytics folks. I'm thinking that the ratings, Oh yeah,
for that two minutes when I'm on camera, tell fifty
three to twelve fifty five. I mean, that's probably why
they put me on the New York market this week.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Yeah, you're meat Candy. I mean you're there. Everybody. Everybody
wants to see you. Thanks for joining us, Bud, have
a great weekend, of course, man Cia. That's Ross Tucker.

the big Game in San Francisco, and you can get
tickets beginning to at ten am Pacific at Shack's Funhouse
dot com. Good to see you again. Did LSU ever
try to get you to play football when you were there?
Speaker 9 (34:11):
No, they did not. I wanted to because you know,
you know the story. You got the story. I started
off as a football player. I was a tight end
and nosegard. I actually loved football because I love inflicting
pain on people.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Who was the coach there? Mike Archer? Was he the
coach when you were there?
Speaker 9 (34:29):
I think it was, yeah, Mike Archer. But they had
a player who actually taught me how to be a superstar.
His name was Tommy Hutson. And you know Tommy Hodson
for Heisman. He didn't end up winning a Heisman Trophy,
but he was like he was like he was like
everything on campus. And I just saw how nice he
was to people and how respectful he was and how
(34:51):
much respect he got. So I know he's watching the show.
So Tommy Hodson, I.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Love your brother.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
It was his number fifteen.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
I don't remember fifteen or eighteen.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
For some reason, I remember him.
Speaker 9 (35:04):
Yeah, I remember, he's like a he's like a gorgeous
Tom Brady. Tom Brady's hot?
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Are you you're all in on Lane Kiffing? You feel
good about your head coach?
Speaker 9 (35:13):
Now, of course I do. Whoever you know they decided
to pick. You know, Lane Kiffin is a great one.
He's going to be making a lot of money and
I know he's going to be bringing in some heavy recruits.
It's time for LSU to get back on track, like
the like the uh. I think it's The interim athletic
director of Verge Olsbury said, LSU was all about winning championships.
(35:34):
That's all we wanted to do.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
I'm curious nowadays, if you were at LSU, you'd be
a one and done, but you stayed three years, I wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
I wouldn't be one of done.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
You would not.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
No, you know why.
Speaker 9 (35:49):
Because with this nil stuff, I would definitely be at
the top of the list, right and I would milk that.
And if you're a top in al guy, I think
you can make more than what these rookies are making
on that contract. But again, college is all about education,
(36:10):
so I would try to get as much education when
it comes to business as I can. So let's just
say I'm making eight nine to ten million dollars a
year for being iil deals. I'm gonna stay. That's thirty
million right there. I'm gonna have thirty million in the
bank and I'm gonna have the knowledge of what to
do with with this thirty million. I'm'na have business acumen,
and I'm gonna know everything about the NBA, and I'm
(36:30):
gonna be very fundamentally sound. I would never be oneer done.
I would actually take advantage of the educational system. Everybody
always talks about money. But if you're getting nil money, well,
I go to the NBA and become a professional, and
then you know, get money, get less money.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Who knows?
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Why haven't you bought a professional sports team yet?
Speaker 4 (36:51):
I'm working on a brother, what.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I what sport?
Speaker 4 (36:56):
NBA?
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Okay, in a.
Speaker 9 (36:58):
Perfect world, I would love to be out of the
Orlando Magic or the Miami Heat.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
In a perfect world, what.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Do you think that that would you would want to
be the sole owner or just buy into it?
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (37:10):
No, never the so just you know, limited partner. No,
I would love to have that conversation.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
A couple of random questions here the All Star format?
Speaker 5 (37:21):
What do you think.
Speaker 9 (37:23):
I haven't I haven't been paying attention to it, Daniel
Eugene Patrick.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
And okay, but if you have the world against the
United States, I like it.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
I like it.
Speaker 9 (37:35):
I like it, and I think they should add a
big monetary reward.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
At the end.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Yeah, I'd be fine with that. I just want I
want to know if the guys want to play, they
want to compete, and if they don't, then they should
not try to fool us. But I think the you know,
non Americans, European players are going to be playing for
pride as well to say, are bad what the five
best players in the sport are from outside the United
(38:02):
States right now?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
And I agree with you.
Speaker 9 (38:05):
And if I was in charge, I wouldn't make it
to where they would would definitely have to compete. I
put a two million prizes at the end. The loser
gets nothing and a big old trophy and big old
rings and brag rights. He ain't saying that the best
in the world. You want the Americans in the best
in the world of not prove it here doing All
Star Weekend. If I was in charge, I would have
(38:26):
this game cracking.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Give me the game plan against Joker if you played
against him.
Speaker 9 (38:33):
Every time he shot a three run by him post
up in the lane, have him and his whole team
complain about three seconds. I wasn't a pick and roll
the defender, so he would definitely get open off the
pick and roll because Jamal Murray coming off the pick
and roll, I would have to help defishing those guys
and they throw back to him. He will probably get
every shot he won. Now, the question is is he
(38:55):
going to guard me one on one or are they
going to double down with Aaron Gordon? But every time
he shot of three, hopefully he missed, I'm just gonna
run right by him and now, and you know my
game plan would be to win to jump ball and
try to get him to two quick to two quick fouls.
But again I'm a not a good pick and roll defender.
So he'll definitely get his shot. He'll definitely get his points.
(39:17):
But the question is what are you gonna do with
me on the other end?
Speaker 2 (39:21):
Well, the same thing with Wemby. What would be your
game plan with Wenby? Uh?
Speaker 9 (39:26):
You have to uh back him under the rim and
just throw it down in his face. To jump hooks
is not It's similar to the kimback jump hooks And
ya mean the little jump hooks, a little cute sea
food see move by the basket. It was not gonna work.
You have to dunk on him and try to, you know,
intimidated him. He is much lighter than I, so I
know I can get to my spot and turn with
(39:48):
the elbows up and get him off bounced a little bit,
and then try to quick knunck him. But on the
other end, I probably have no answer for him because
I'm not known for defense, so I don't know what
people always try to make details. I'm not known for
for stopping people, and guess what, people are not known
for stopping me either. Games like that. When I played
(40:11):
against great bigs, it was all about that rhythm. So
I remember early against Dave Robinson always being foul trouble
with the same day with Patrick Ewan. So I would
try to get those guys in foul trouble, but it
will definitely be an exciting game.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Why do you only have one m v P.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (40:31):
I have no idea. Like I I argue with Charles
all the time. What's the criteria? You know when you
say most valuable player? I always thought it as an individual,
as a single player, you know, is it built on
teams success. I don't like we needed we need a
national m v P NBA criteria on when it takes
to be.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
M v P.
Speaker 9 (40:52):
So there's no questions asked at the end, like, oh,
he should have got he should have got it. Well,
this guy meets all the criteria, whatever the criteria to
become a VP.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
Does the m v P ever come up in conversation
when you're around Steve Nash?
Speaker 4 (41:07):
No, not at all.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Is that a good thing?
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Listen, listen, Steve was a fun player. He was a
great player.
Speaker 9 (41:14):
And you know, in this and and in this thing
that we have, and you know you're part of this thing,
certain things happened. So they said, whoever they may be,
that he was two time MVP, O for me to
accept that lip withd it, you know, I you know,
I joke about it every now and then. But Steve
was an MVP cover and he was a person. Steve was,
(41:35):
Steve was much Watch TV.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
We're talking to Shaquille O'Neill. It's the Shocked Funhouse presented
by Credit One Bank. So this is going to be
at the Super Bowl. This is going to be in
San Francisco's historic cal Palace. So you got t Paine, Tiesto,
disco lines, and you DJ Diesel and that.
Speaker 9 (41:57):
And Miles on there. He's actually a great DJA. This
will be for the eighth year in the row, the
number one party at Super Bowl. Dan, you've been at
Super Bowl where people just standing around and talk and
drink cocktails with this is like I said presenting about
Credit One Bank. We got a carnival rides, we got uh,
we got food, we got refreshments, We've got DJs. It's
(42:20):
gonna be a great time. And I started this thing
eight years ago and was very nervous about house, but
what's gonna go and went very well, and then we've
been taking off since then. For the eighth year in
a row, I expected to be crowned the number one
party followed about Illustrated.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Party, the Shacklicious excel Gummies.
Speaker 9 (42:39):
Yes, shack delicious excel gummies where people will be uh
uh instructed to bite.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
My head off.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
But these are just chocolate. These aren't like, no, they're gummies.
Are there pot gummies?
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Gummies? No, not pot gummies.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
I didn't know. Those are the gummies that I have.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
I am an.
Speaker 9 (43:01):
Athlete, sir, I do not. I do not partake in
such activities.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
You never gotten high? No, no, never tempted.
Speaker 9 (43:12):
No.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
The only thing I do is smoke hookah.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
Does that give you a buzz? No?
Speaker 4 (43:21):
I just do it for the smoke.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
What about cigars, yes, ciars too, Oh yeahs, cigars are great.
The Lebron situation now with Luca and then you got Reeves,
and now Lebron kind of kind of get integrated, reintegrated.
Can he be a complimentary player?
Speaker 5 (43:40):
Do you think?
Speaker 9 (43:42):
I mean, I don't want to be the one that
saying Lebron is a complimentary player. It's just that I
think Lebron knows and understands that at some point this
thing comes to it in and Lebron has always been
a team guy first. So no, right now he's integrated. Listen,
Austin Reeves is playing lights out. Lucas the leading scorer NBA,
he's playing lights out. I mean, little Lebron smart enough
(44:05):
to know when that these guys cook, and you know,
meet me. Uh, you know, Lebron say I'll take over.
So maybe I'm not gonna be the guy. Say Lebron,
you need to be a complimented player. Lebron knows and
understand how to win. He knows and and understands how
to run the team. And listen, Uh, all the greats
go to this point. You know, we have great beginnings,
(44:25):
we have great middles, and then at some point it
comes to Satursday for me is when there will be
no more Lebron, no more Durant, no more Steph Curry,
no more Draymond. Like that's gonna be a Saturday for me.
And then I have to, you know, reintegrate myself with
all these young guys. But you know, watching these guys
(44:46):
and you know I'm playing against these guys and you know,
see what they did after we after I left the game.
Is when those guys are going on, think, I'll be
a very Saturday for me.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Who will you miss more? Between Steph, Lebron and KD.
Speaker 9 (45:00):
I don't miss all of them. You know they're all great.
You know Hardens on that list, My my guy Westbrook's
on unless dray minds on that list, you honest less
like it'll be. It'll be sad for me because I
enjoy watching the guys compete as youngsters and then turn
it into the great players the Hall of famers that there.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Uh, how's your free throw shooting terrible.
Speaker 4 (45:25):
Only only hit them. I only hit them when I
need to hit them.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
You know you tell me that. I know you told.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
Me that.
Speaker 4 (45:36):
There were in the finals.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
I don't miss. I don't miss, though. I mean people
were surprised when you made they're surprised when I missed.
That's the difference.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
Okay, I hear you. Are you challenging me, Daniel.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
I'll make a blindfolded Daniel Fitzgerald Patrick.
Speaker 4 (46:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Am I afraid of you at the line?
Speaker 9 (46:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (46:05):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (46:06):
Yeah, Well next time, next time I'm in your city,
I'm gonna come by your suit.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Right, fair enough for you that, But you would have
been a three? Would you have been a three point
shooter or tried to be if you played now?
Speaker 9 (46:19):
But I would have definitely been able to bring the
ball up, initiate the offense, called offense, go coast to coast,
throw it down. I probably would only shot the three
if we were up more than ten fifteen points, just
to get the crowd into the game. But I'm not
gonna shoot five or six threes. Hell no, never.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
All right, I'm just curious if you because big men
always want to do what the little guy does.
Speaker 9 (46:43):
Yeah, so you know dribble and dribble handoffs, and you
know between the leg and crossover and step back, but
I'm not shooting the threes.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
It is the party of all parties. If you're at
the Big Game Super Bowl weekend in San Francisco, Shack's Funhouse,
you're gonna we have a t pain, tiesto, disco lines
and Shack himself DJ Diesel. Tickets on sale today ten
am Pacific. Go to Shacks. That's plural, Shacksfunhouse dot com.
(47:14):
Shack is aladocious. Thanks again, great to see you, buddy.
Speaker 4 (47:18):
Daniel Oswaldpatrick. I appreciate you.
