(00:27):
playoff quarterfinal on New Year's Day. Good to talk to you.
Of all the tape you've been breaking down, give me
the one that stood out good or bad? Yeah, I
mean there's two in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
The first one is Josh Allen and just what he's
been able to do with so much less, And that
was sort of the MVP conversation last year. And you
break it down, the first half was awful. The Bills couldn't.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Move the ball at all. The Patriots had him figured
it out.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Bills defensively looked bad, and then you just turn on
the second half and they rolled.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
And it's just every single time that the Bills need
to make a play, they.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Rely on Josh Allen and Josh Allen was put in
some crazy situations and he was able to make some plays.
The other one Dan that I really enjoyed watching, and
I think no one is talking about them as Jacksonville
Jaguars with Liam Cohne is doing with Trevor Lawrence. I mean,
this was, without a doubt, the best game Trevor Lawrence
has ever played, maybe at any level.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
And it's not only.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Because the six touchdowns, Right, that's nice, and you look
at the stats and you're like, oh, that's awesome, but
you look at the play calling, You look at the
place sequencing, meaning what plays are you running back.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
To back to back? He has different plays and three.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Different variations that may make the defense react certain ways.
That the amount of play action, the trust that Trevor
Lawrence is throwing, and just it's it's been impressive to
watch because, in my opinion, the jury was a little
bit out on Trevor Lawrence. Hey, how's he going to react?
How's he going to be with this third head coach,
however many it is. And then you see what Liam
(02:02):
Cohone's been able to do, and he's been able to
highlight the strong parts of Trevor Lawrence's game and that's
throwing the football down the field, and so it's just
been really impressive. The other one, real quick is Kayleb Williams,
Caleb Williams to me and Ben Johnson. If you just
look at what Ben Johnson's doing, he's worth fourteen points
a game because these he's scheming guys wide open. But
(02:26):
also Kleb Williams actually trying to find stuff open and
throw stuff open. And his growth has been really good.
I can't believe the Bears have ten wins right now.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Okay, but he's getting credit for that throw to DJ Moore. Yeah,
that was risky. That was I mean, I honestly, I
broke it down on the YouTube. It'll be out today.
And when I see that throw made, it's so nonchalant, right,
he has the ball down here and he just sort
of tosses it up like a prayer.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
And I don't know, first of all, how the first
safety missed it and then and secondly the guy covering
DJ Moore it went right through his hands. And so
everyone's gonna be like, oh my gosh, that's amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's a great thrill. I think it's risky, you know.
Back to Josh Allen, and you know, trying to equate
what is value and do we it Is it equal
with being great in September and October to being great
in December? And this is where Josh Allen, I mean,
Matthew Stafford's been great wire to wire, yes, no doubt,
(03:27):
But so I don't know if I was a voter,
how do I equate what he's doing now in December
as opposed to what Matthew Stafford has done the entire year.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I think Matthew Stafford still deserves the MVP and what
he's been able to do with this RAMS scene. But Dan,
here's my thing, and I'm not a voter. I know
some people who are voters, and everyone votes differently. If
you look at the roster that Josh Allen has and
what he has been able to do lately, you can't
even remotely compare it to the roster that Matthew Stafford has.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Matthew's making some insane throws and Matthew's playing some of
the best.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Bowl of his career.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
But you look at Kira and Williams, you look at
and I know Josh Allen has the running back, but
you look at the receiver group over there, for the
Rams with Puka and DeVante and and just it just
to me, I don't think that Josh Allen has overtaken
Matthew Stafford in the MVP race.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
But this is the year for Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
If there's any year that he's going to make some
hay in the AFC and actually win a Super Bowl,
it's going to be on the back of Josh Allen.
There's no Patrick Mahomes, there's no Lamar Jackson, there's no
Joe Burrow. So Josh Allen it's going to be talked about.
If they can't, if they're limping into the playoffs, which
are not right now, or they don't they go around
or two and they lose again.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
It just seems to me.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And they just beat the best team in the NFC
other than the Broncos, and so to me, this is
the year that.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Josh Allen has to get it done. Man, did you
break down Philip Rivers? I did, Yes.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
It didn't get a lot of views because I guess
no one cares about old man Rivers, but it's on
the YouTube channel. First of all, forget about any of
the stats. I mean, a forty four year.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Old Waite are you grating differently? Are you grading differently
because you go, well, it's a forty four year old guy,
are you treating him the same way you would Shadoor Sanders?
Not even close.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
And it's grading on a curve because Philip Rivers five
hasn't thrown a pass in five years.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
So he's coaching his high school team.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
And when you go on the road against that Mike
McDonald defense in Seattle and almost win, like it.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Just here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
They can't really throw it outside the numbers because Phillip's
arm strength just isn't there. I mean, he threw a
couple that were like lollipops and I'm like, oh my gosh,
they barely fit in there. But in between the numbers,
and I would say the one thing that really stood
out to me is mentally meant he has not missed
it at all.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
You see him out there.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
After the first like twenty plays where he's feeling it out.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
He's getting the speed of the game.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
He's changing plays left or right, he's motioning, he's doing this,
he's changing.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
The pass plays. How do you have all this figured out?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
You got there on Monday. Your first practice was Wednesday,
so it was. It was impressive for what it was.
I mean, the stats aren't aren't there. It's a huge
Monday night game against forty hoe urs Zo.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
He's Chased Daniel, the Mothership ESPN College Football and NFL
analyst and his show is on YouTube. He Chase Daniel Show.
I talked a little bit opening segment about Jackson Dart.
You know, the commander is going to shut down Jade Daniels.
They know what they have with him and let him
just get healthy in the off season. With Jackson Dart,
(06:33):
if you've been in the blue tent five times in
ten games, we have a real problem here. But I
don't know how you change somebody with their style. And
you as a quarterback, can you what do you say
to Jackson Dart If he was your teammate and he
played this way and you were his backup, well you
(06:54):
might say, hey, keep playing this way. I'm going to
get in games. Yeah yeah, But can he change modify
that style?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
He's gonna have to and and it's it's been talked about.
And when you when you watch the.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Games and you and you do it.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
It's not out of a place of like, oh, you know,
I don't care about my body. I think he's just
uber competitive, but it's borderline reckless right now. And I
think that's what he has to understand and the new
head coach has to understand. I think I think they
have to go offense for their new head coach because
Jackson Dart, in my opinion, is the franchise quarterback.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
He's done that.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
And yes, there are certain ways that you can run
an offense with the quarterback running, but you have to
ingrain it in the quarterbacks that if you keep doing this,
we're just not gonna call the plays and we're not
gonna call the runs.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
And it is a big part of his game.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
And I mean, Dan, if you go back to his
old mis days, I mean that showed up all over
the film. It was like, hey, I want to take
a hit, I want to do this. I mean to
be in the tent for five times in ten games.
It's it's just not the case. And when you get
into those situation, right because the game's moving really fast emotionally,
(08:03):
you're just in that situation and you don't think of it,
and all of a sudden you just get popped and
it's just I mean, did you see the Commander's meeting
with Dan Quinn on the Hard Knocks end season. They
were talking about how Jackson Dart and dan Quinn was
talking about how Jackson Dart is reckless and he has
he has no awareness of He's like, we have to
pop them, we have to hit him. Joe Joe Whitt
(08:25):
said the same thing, the Depen score. We have to
hit Jackson Dart. So it's being talked about in other
locker rooms. That's how you know it's a problem. And
Jackson Dart has to like when he goes back this
offseason after the season and they picked the head coach,
They're gonna sit down and be like, this is the
number one thing we have to fix. You are uber talented,
but you have to be available for our football team.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
But I don't know it's been ingrained in him that
his dad was a defenship back. I mean, he plays
like he's a defenship back playing quarterback.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
And I just.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Wonder, or can you instinctively as you're running go oh,
wait a minute, I'm supposed to wait, shy, wait, what
am I supposed to do? I don't know if you
can do that, And I think that'll be a real
challenge for him. And it doesn't sound like he wants
to change.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I think the one thing that I saw change and
that maybe gives me hope, is that if you look
at Jaden Daniels in college, right, the one thing I
was worried about him was he did take too many hits,
whether it was sacks or running. And he's a true
pocket passer that can take off and is exceptional running
the football. He got smoked in college a few times,
and I was worried about his frame. I was worried
about him getting hurt more. In the NFL, He's done
(09:38):
a really nice job and dan Quinn's done a really
nice job of understanding. Same with Cliff Kingsbury. Hey you
gotta get down and you gotta do this. And it's
just maybe baby steps, but I think the first thing
that has to happen is is he has to Jackson
dr has to take.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Accountability for it.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
And if you can't, I mean, you're not gonna sit
the guy for not playing. But eventually he's gonna get hurt,
he's gonna be out extended period of time, and maybe
that will make it click for him, like, hey, I
can't be doing this to my team.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
The Dolphins have talked about sitting down to it feels
like if you're sitt him down, and I'd like to
see quinn Ewers maybe get a little run here at
the end of the year. But it feels like once
you sit somebody down, are you kind of saying to
the team we're moving on from that quarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Look if that's a great question, and the head coach
of the Miami Dolphins, whoever it may be next year,
because I'm I have no idea what.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
They're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
They're gonna have a decision to make with Tua, and
I don't care about his contract and what happens, but
it just seems like, hey, has Tua lived up to
the standards on what they probably thought they were gonna
be Probably not right, Like playoffs have been a dud,
all this stuff, And then if you sit them down,
I mean, you're saying you want to see what a
(10:58):
seventh round has for the next three games and if
that seventh rounder plays well enough, or maybe you're in
the QB conversation. It just I don't think the jury's
out yet on if two is done or not. But
it is a very difficult situation, especially if you're Tuoa,
and you're seeing McDaniel's make these comments and you're like,
oh my gosh, Like, man, I thought I've done enough.
(11:20):
And two has been really outspoken on a lot of
different things this year. It will be interesting to see
if if McDaniel's is the head coach next year, does
he bring back.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
To a It just I don't know, man, It's it's
a tough.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Situation, you know, these last three four games for teams
that aren't in the playoff mont it's all about evaluation,
you know that, And so they want to evaluate not
only the quarterback position, but there's gonna be some stuff
defensively they do. There's gonna be stuff offensively they do.
They need to really evaluate the last you know, twenty
twenty five guys on the roster of that fifty three,
(11:54):
and I don't think they want two out there doing that.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
What should the Chiefs approach be for next season? Man?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
You know, we talk about I have a lot of
really good friends in the Chiefs organization, from the GM
to the quarterback coach to those like a lot of.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Guys, and when you talk to these guys, it's just like.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
A little bit of like unknown, like why aren't we
doing this, and why aren't we doing this?
Speaker 2 (12:24):
And how are we not winning? And you look at it, Dan,
and it comes down.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
To and I've really tried to study it, because when
you look at them offensively and defensively, they're they're not
like awful, right. They don't have a run game, right,
And I think it's a lazy take to just say, hey,
it's just the offensive line. They drafted the first round pick,
they have one of the best sinners in the NFL.
They got to stay healthy, they paid the right tackle
and it's just one of those things where I boil
it down to be like they aren't great in one
(12:51):
score games, and I think they were eleven or zero
last year.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
They're one and seven this year. And that's a huge
part of this deal.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
If you win four of those seven games, you're in
the playof Now Mahome's hurt and it's brutal, and I
think this might be the best thing to happen to
the Chiefs. Everyone wants to talk about, like, hey, you know,
the dynasty's over and this and that, and you know,
Trey Wingo got on Twitter and said, hey, you know,
nice season. Tom Brady tears his acl with the Patriots
(13:19):
dynasty and then Mahomes theres acl it's just a different
version going to be moving forward. And I just think
that Brett Veitch, when you win Super Bowls and you've
been in five of the last six, you've been in
seven straight AFC championship, you've had story book seasons every year.
First of all, they played I think twenty three extra games,
almost a season and a half of extra games in
(13:40):
seven years, So the tiredness plays into it. However, a
lot of times you're just like, let's run it back,
let's run it back, let's run it back. And they've
drafted well, but they got to get rid of some
older guys. They got some key decisions to make, They
got to sure up that defensive line. As long as
they have Spags and Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, I
think they're still to be fine. They're gonna make the
playoffs next year. Like it's not gonna be one of
(14:02):
those things where, hey, you know, it's just a different
version of the dynasty in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Yeah, but when people make that comparison with Brady and Mahomes,
Mahomes needs his legs. Tom doesn't. Tom didn't get slower
he was slow. Mahomes, he was their leading rusher. He
was the guy who got those big plays. So it's
different for him. And with that kind of surgery, you know,
it's an LCL and an ACL and you're having it now.
(14:29):
Tom got injured at the beginning of the season when
he blew out his ACL, so it's you know, it's different,
and it is totally different.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
And here's the thing though, I think it'll be good
for them because they're gonna have to fix the run game,
like they're not gonna have to rely on Mahomes anymore.
And yes, Mahomes like to move around. Remember I mean
three or four or five years ago, when Mahomes did
his kneecap, Yeah, and a quarterback sneak, and everyone and
their mom thought, oh, he's going to miss the rest
of the season.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
I think there was I think it was a maybe
Chad Hitty. That was a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
He was back in two weeks and so the ability
to get back into train and ACL and LCL is
completely different than a kneecap. But everyone thought that was
gonna be the end of the world. I mean, he's
gonna be pushing up to the season. I don't think
he's he's obviously gonna have a brace on and it's
not gonna be able to move him.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
But if anyone can heal fast, I think it's Mahomes.
When do you start chopping up the college quarterbacks?
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Yeah, that'll be after Christmas. So I got to get
through this bowl game, Independence Bowl, and then as we
get into the start of the playoffs, it's it's those.
It's those three at the top in my opinion, Dante More,
Fernando Mendoza, and there's a few more that I want
to look at for potential. Ty Simpson is one of them.
I think he sort of played his way out. But
(15:42):
those are the three now with the Arts Manning going back,
and there's some other like under the radar type guys,
but that'll be at the end of the end of
the season.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
For sure. Have the Saints seen enough that they would
not be in the quarterback market with the Shuck?
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Look, I I know the people down there, and they've
been extremely happy with Shuck's development, and honestly, I think
they probably should have played him a little bit earlier,
if I'm being honest with you, just to see what
they have. I think there's enough. There's enough tape on
film to be like, hey, all right, we're good now.
If you have a high first round pick, though, and
(16:20):
if you can get into that top three, I mean,
you have to look at Fernando Mendoza, you have to
look at at Dante More.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
I think Shuck's good, but.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
You know, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens
with the head coach. I mean, the head coach is
staying down there and more. But I think I think
you're good. I don't know. There's so many other holes
on that roster that you need to fix. But he's
done a really nice job. I mean, if you've really
broken down the film and watched it, and his growth
(16:51):
has been tremendous.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Have fun in the Independence Bowl. Happy holidays to you
and always great to talk to you. Appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
RG three Robert Griffin Junior, the third Fox Analyst and
his podcast out of Pocket with RG three. Good to
have you back. What took the NFL so long to
push forward and having stricter standards for playing surfaces? Oh yeah,
that is a great question. I saw.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
I think I saw a graphic the other day of
all the guys that have torn acls or or torn
their achilles this year.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Very very alarming.
Speaker 6 (18:08):
And you know, I think the players want all grass,
you know, they want to move away from the turf,
especially as they get older. And I feel like, when
you're like fifteen, sixteen, seventeen year old, there's like this
this want to play on turf, and you got the
turf tape on your arms and it looks cool.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
And then when you're like twenty eight, twenty nine, you're like,
oh my knees, my ankles.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
Then you want to get away from that turf. So
I think the NFL should if they want to prolong
the careers of some of their older players, because now
twenty seven, twenty eight is kind of getting.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Older in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
At other positions, I mean, not quarterback, they should make
a mandate to have all teams play on grass.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Well, you know, I don't know, you know, Mahomes, I
could see the injury happening, and I could understand that,
but Michael Parsons non contact like those are the ones
that kind of baffle me. Is that the surface is
it shoes? Is I mean, is there something we're not
factoring in with this, Dan? I think it's multiple things.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
And I'm glad you you want to have this conversation
because you know, when you're an athlete and you're in
the weight room or you're in a developmental program, the
thing that was always said when I was grown up
was bigger, faster, stronger, Right, Well, the bigger and the
faster and the stronger you become, the more force you're
putting into the ground. So if your shoes, which the
(19:30):
shoe companies have kind of gone towards this boost technology, right,
and it almost feels like you're wobbling sometimes when you
walk in those shoes and they're terrible to cut in. Well,
that's also that technology is also bled into the cleats.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
So I don't know if the shoes.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
Are as good as they were, but they'll tell you
that they have more traction, you know.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
So Now if you have a bigger, faster.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
Stronger athlete like a Micah Parsons who runs a four
to four, probably a four to three and he's every
bit at two hundred and fifty pounds, and his shoes
have more traction on a surface that is built for traction,
you're going to see more torn acls and more torn achilles.
And we're seeing that across all sports, not just football.
(20:15):
Also in basketball, some of the biggest stars are having
injuries that we didn't necessarily see from the Michael Jordan's
and the Magic Johnson's back in the day. So I
think it's a combination of the surface as well as
the athletes getting bigger, faster, and stronger, and it's kind
of working against each other.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
But when you go back to that January twenty thirteenth
playoff game against Seattle and you got injured on that surface,
did you sue the Washington Did you sue your your
owner at the time?
Speaker 6 (20:47):
I did not, Dan, do you have any do you
have any lawyers that.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
It's a statute of limitations up? Because I mean I
think it is. I mean, that's malpractice, isn't it? With
a field as bad as that, I mean, that was
embarrassing that field.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
Yeah, and there's so many guys that have been hurt
on that field, and that was that was actually grass
or saying whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
You could you could see the dust flying.
Speaker 6 (21:12):
Up everybody every time people were running fast on that field.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
So I didn't, you know at that time. I think
a large part of it was it's really hard.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
To sue the owner or sue the league and still
play in the league. But if there's a maybe there's
a lawyer out there who can, you know, call back
that statute of limitations, and I probably wouldn't be the
only guy that that would want to, you know, be
interested in that, because there's a difference between just having
grass or turf and really terrible grass and really bad turf.
(21:41):
So I think the league is going to continue to
see this happening when from an injury standpoint, and if
they don't mandate what the teams actually have to use,
and you know what company they need to use to
have the right type of grass that's going to be
the best possible for the players. You're going to continue
to see top level players go down, and I know
the league doesn't want that.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
RG three Fox Football Analyst out of pocket with RG
three his podcast. What advice would you give Michah Parsons
and anybody else who's had a torn shape?
Speaker 4 (22:15):
You know?
Speaker 6 (22:16):
ACL, Yeah, I mean the number one advice I would
give to Michah Parsons and Patrick Mahomes right now is
to not play next year. And it's because of when
they got hurt. They both got hurt in December. You know,
you look at these injuries and we've seen guys come
back in six months, you know, eight months, nine months,
and it would be nine months for both of them
if they were ready to go week one. But you
(22:38):
don't really feel like yourself until about fifteen months after
the injury. And some guys will even tell you, hey,
it took me twenty four months to truly feel like
myself again. And don't get me wrong, eighty percent of
Micah Parsons is better than Dangner. Almost every pass rusher
in the NFL eighty percent of Patrick Mahomes is better
than almost every.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
But I look at it from a stamp point because
of my own experience, and these guys aren't me. But
I told my ACL M I lcl the same injury
that Patrick mahomes head has right now, and I wouldn't
have played in twenty thirteen. I I if hindsight, which
it is twenty twenty, I wouldn't have played the following
year because I wasn't back to myself yet. And Mahomes
(23:19):
is a guy that runs around, is very creative, and
is a great second reaction quarterback, and he can play
from the pocket. But I would advise them to not
play next year so that when they come back in
twenty seven they can truly and fully be themselves and
it won't knock off years from their career. Now, I
say that knowing very well. Dan, you know, I've got
(23:41):
you know sources pretty close to the situation there that
that Mahomes is all in for Week one, and we
see Mica say that he's all in for Week one
as well. And it's because as players, we are wired
to have this gladiator mindset that we can overcome anything
and we're not normal and we're not normal. But at
(24:01):
the same time, I would advise them to sit out
the following season because of when they got hurt, and
then you can play for another ten fifteen years once
you're fully back to health.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Do I think that's what's going to happen.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
No.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
I think they're gonna come back and they're going to
play week one because that's how we're wired, and the
only people that can really protect them is the teams.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Does it matter that it's the left knee for Mahomes, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
So mine was the right you know, which is the
you know, the hip through knee as they would say,
the left knee. It becomes concerning because now most guys
would wear a brace on that knee. A lot of
times we get hit offensive linemen. That's the leg that
is straight for the most part, sometimes when you're when
you're throwing the football, though it shouldn't be, you know,
(24:48):
from a full technique standpoint, But I think if it
was the back knee and him pushing off, it would
be more concerning. So I think the left knee makes
it a little bit better, But It also raises the
risk for re injury because of the style of play
in the NFL and those big guys falling into you.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
It feels like, Josh Allen, you know, the window is
wide open now because you don't have Mahomes, you don't
have the Chiefs, you don't have your kryptonite. Lamar's probably
not in Burrow, not going to be in as well.
Is it fair to look at Josh Allen and say, hey, man,
because I don't think their team is anywhere near what
it's been before, and now we feel like, well, these
(25:30):
quarterbacks aren't in there. Now is your chance to go
to the Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (25:35):
I think that Josh Allen and you know, Matt Stafford
might be the two guys that most people in the
media or most fans feel the most comfortable with right now.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
It's a topsy turvy league.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
If you ask most people, the average fan, hey, who
has the best record in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Don't look at your phone, don't go to the standings.
Who is it? I promise you they wouldn't say it's
the Deno Broncos. They wouldn't.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
And that to me makes it to where if there
was ever a year for Josh Allen the Buffalo Bills
to win the Super Bowl. It would be this season.
All the top guys for the most part that you
would expect to be there are not there.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Okay, But if Buffalo played Denver in Denver, yeah, who
you take it? Oh, I'm taking Denver. Okay.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
So here and this is a great point, Dan, you
know you're great at this. And people are there hoarding
their decision about the Denver Broncos because they don't want
to be wrong about Bonnicks. And to me, that's not
how you do the job. Like I was a big
Bonnicks guy. I thought that him and Sean Payton would
(26:45):
be fabulous together. And they're twelve and two right now
in year two and absolutely bawling out with a great
defense in an offense that's good enough to win games.
So people have to stop being afraid of that and
just acknowledge what you see in you. The Denver Broncos
are the best team in the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks
are one of the best teams in the NFL. The
(27:05):
New England Patriots are one of the best teams in
the NFL. And it's not just because of their records.
They're just holding it against their quarterbacks because they don't
know if they believe in Sam Donald in the playoffs.
They don't know if Drake may is real or not
because they haven't seen him do it in the playoffs.
They don't know if bo Nicks is real or not
because they haven't seen him do it in the playoffs.
But this season is shaping up to be one where
(27:26):
we could have one of those three guys hoisting Lombardi
at the end of the season. And I think that's
great for the NFL, and I think some of the
Punnits need to catch up.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Convinced Bengal fans that they shouldn't be worried about Joe Burrow,
Oh no, they should be.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
You can't anytime a guy that's that competitive, the one
who was smoking cigars and changed his last name on
the back of his jersey at LSU to Burrow.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
You know the way that Louisiana and spell it.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
That when that guy comes out and says, man, I
don't know if I love this anymore, like I got
a find the joy.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
That's a problem.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
And it's also weird because I've heard some people compared
to the Carson Palmer situation, whereas Carson.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
I believe it was. We had t O and Oho
and he was just.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
Like, Yeah, it's kind of tough to deal with these
guys and what's going on in building around me.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Joe's got his guys. I think there's more Andrew Luck
Oh okay, I could see that getting banged up. Luck
was twenty nine when he walked away. Yep. You know
that the psychological there's the physical damage. The psychological damage
is it's hard to rehab the psychological damage of all
the injuries. We can do the physical parts, but the
(28:41):
psychological you know, those scars stay a lot longer.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
And the psychological part that you're opening up there then
is because Joe played so well last year. You know,
sometimes as a quarterback, like when team, when your team
doesn't play well and you don't play well, it can
kind of motivate you to be like, all right, let's
go back to the drawing board. Let's figure it out.
I didn't do this great in Boom Boom boom. But
when you go out there and you throw for a
(29:07):
gazillion touchdowns and seven thousand yards and you still lose,
and it's like not close, Like you're not close to
making the playoffs, and you're doing that year after year
after year, and then you're getting hurt year.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
After year after year.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
That's where I think Joe Burrow is kind of burning
himself out in a way of like he's made enough money,
which I understood why Andrew made the decision that he made.
If Andrew Luck was a fourth round quarterback and didn't
get paid a bunch of money, he probably would have
still been playing. But he was a first round pick
that had signed one hundred million dollar contract and just
(29:42):
was banged up, and he's like, you know what, I've taken.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Care of my family. I've enjoyed this game for a
long time.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
I'm good, And I could understand why Joe Burrow would
be in that position. But I think if you're any
of those guys on that team, don't even worry about
the owners ownership and the GM and the head coach,
just the players. Do you want Joe Burrow to be
your quarterback? Because if you do, I'm taking them a
seventeen steak dinners over the next seventeen days. And I'm
(30:08):
trying to convince him like, hey man, I know this
is tough, but we need you. And I think that's
The only thing that'll get Joe Burrow back into it
is the guy's in that locker room, you know, really
putting their arms around him and say we got you back.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Man. This just came in. The Dolphins are going to
bench Tua and they're going to start quinn Ewers. Wow,
what kind of statement is this?
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Now?
Speaker 2 (30:35):
I know, all right, we can see what quinn Ewers
can do. Why not let him see what? But when
you bench a guy who's healthy and a big contract,
you got him for another year? Are the Dolphins moving
on from Tua by making this decision? I think I
(30:57):
love quinn Ewers, Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
I believe that Mike McDaniels put himself in a situation
that if quinn Ewers doesn't go out and absolutely bowl out,
that they will move on from him.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
And it's because of the contract.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
You've got two a tongue of alool who's got what
two hundred million dollar contract?
Speaker 2 (31:17):
I think they're on the hook for, you know whatever,
fifty million next year. Correct.
Speaker 6 (31:22):
So you're as a head coach now saying I don't
want this guy, you know, and that to me puts
you in a very pecurious situation as a head coach.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
When you make those types of decisions, you have to
be right.
Speaker 6 (31:36):
And the question you have to ask if you're a
fan of the Miami Dolphins, is is Quinn yours the
guy to make that decision? For I thought he handled
himself well at Texas. You know, I've had him on
our show out of Pock with RG three. He is
a god fearing, great young man who probably shouldn't have
fell in the draft as far as he did. But
are you that confident as the coach that Quinn Ewers
(31:58):
is the guy that I'm gonna move forward with because
I'm benching to a tongue of Ialoa. Or are you
saying we're gonna go drafting to the quarterback next year
and we're gonna pay to it to get out of
here in the same way that.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
The Broncos did to Russell Wilson. Yeah, but I don't
know if Mike McDaniel is going to be back next year.
So if you have a better chance of ensuring that
if you play Tua right. It feels like.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
I, well, he's put that he's putting himself on the
plank and saying quin Ewers is gonna save my job.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
That's what he that's what he's saying.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
And and and I think that's a bad I think
to a tongue of Ioloa should still be the starting quarterback.
And I think that Mike McDaniels is putting himself in
the wall against the wall in the corner. And if
quin Ewers doesn't go out there and win the rest
of these games, he's gonna be gone.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Great to talk to you, great stuff today, Happy holidays.
Appreciate you guys, Mary Christmas ut. Robert Griffin Junior the
third is mcleven No Griffith. McLevin called him Robert Griffith
Junior the third.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Let's bringing Tony Gunzales Hall of Famer and Thursday Night
Football Tony and the Gang, Big Showdown. Rams Seahawks coverage
begins at seven eastern. All right, let me start there.
How surprised are you quinn Ewers is starting for the
Dolphins in Tua has been benched.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
I'm pretty surprised. I I don't think who saw that coming.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
But you look at it.
Speaker 7 (33:35):
The way he's playing right now, it's kind of been
somewhat up and down. Did not play well last week.
It's the end of the season. They're not going to
the playoffs. Is it one of those things? You know
he's got the concussion history. Do you want to keep
him safe? It looks like sometimes he doesn't want to
take a hit, but he's back there running around.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
It seems like he's protecting himself.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
But I think I think going forward with the Dolphins,
maybe they get it. They want to get a look
at Quinn because maybe this is the end of the
road for two. I don't know what's his contract situation.
That's something that you got.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
To look at. Well, they got one more year. I
think it's around fifty million, so a big cap hit
if they move on. I don't know if this is
a situation that Sean Payton had when he inherited Russell Wilson.
You're gonna probably get a new coach in Miami and
then are they going to come in and you have
this to a contract and you got to deal with that,
(34:28):
or they try to do what Denver did and just
say to Russell Wilson, see you you know my coach
wants to get his quarterback in there.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
Yeah, I could always certainly go that way to put
it on the coach. That takes some cajones. So, I mean,
especially with that cap hite, I think.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
I like to.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
I think when he's on, he's on. He can play really,
really well. Obviously, you know his best receiverent down Tyreek
and that that hurts you. But if the cap hit
is at that fifty million mark, I gotta believe that
they're gonna whoever's in there, I would keep him. I mean,
he's definitely plays well enough to you don't want to
(35:08):
take a fifty million dollar gap. I think Russell Wilson's
situation was a little bit different.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
But what's it like to play with the quarterback who
doesn't have a strong arm.
Speaker 7 (35:18):
Well, you know, I'm a tight ends, so I get
the eight to ten yard route, a couple of corner routes.
I'm not really burning them over the top, so that
doesn't bother me. It's like, hey, just give me the ball,
put it up highs and go get it. But yeah,
that that that limits you for sure? Do you think too,
I can't throw the depot, you.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Know, watching him against Steelers. That arm doesn't look like
you know, hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna have to worry
about him beating me over the top. I think he
has wide receivers or he did with Tyreek, who were
faster than anybody they were up against, and maybe created separation.
But he had a couple of passes against Steelers where
I went, I don't know, especially in this December on
(36:01):
the road in December. Not exactly Steve Young he was.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
He was definitely fained this last week's game. I think
that put a bad taste in people's mouth.
Speaker 7 (36:12):
But I'm also too, you know, towards the end of
the season sometimes he's they want to get a look
at the young quarterback and then they'll make that decision
going into you know, the offseason, and and you protect
your quarterback who's kind of sensitive obviously his head issues.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
I take that Barry seriously.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
I was one of the ones when he got hurt
before that said, I don't understand why you want to
keep playing with his concussion history, but maybe that's a
little bit that plays a little bit into it as well.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
How many concussions do you think you had shoot?
Speaker 7 (36:43):
I know for sure too, because but I went back
in the game. You know, it was a different game
back then. You got your bell wrong. Get back in there.
How many fingers I'm holding up? You're good, go back
in there. But yeah, I would say too, that was
I got.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
I got lucky.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I think, wait, but that's almost in.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
You.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
You had thirteen hundred catches, didn't you.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Yeah? Yeah, run there.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
I mean just the odds of even when you're not,
you know, catching a pass. Seventeen seasons, you think you
only had two.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Maybe I had a little bit more.
Speaker 7 (37:16):
You know, my last season year seventeen in Atlanta, there's
a couple of times I caught the ball and landed,
you know, normal landing on the ground, and part of it,
your helmet hits the HS it's the pain the turf,
and uh, it was like a movie. Liked the it
opens back up, like the old school movies where it
(37:37):
goes dark and then opens up to the light. And
that's how my vision. That happened a couple of times
during that season. That was another reason I was like,
you know what, maybe it's time for me to go.
I don't know if it was necessary concussion, but over
the years, your head gets a little bit softer as
you as you as you get older, you can't take
the hits like you used to. So but like knocked
out type concussions, No, I never I was never knocked
(37:57):
out on the field or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
You reach tired. You were thirty seven, thirtyeven years old? Okay,
Kelsey's thirty six. What advice would you give him if
he hasn't made a decision about next year?
Speaker 7 (38:11):
If he hasn't made a decision, By the way we were,
I was texting with him yesterday.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
He told me, tell you hello, o ohil boys.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
Yeah, I think right now he's got a big decision
to make. Obviously, he can still play, he's still putting
up numbers, is getting it done in it It ain't what
it used to be, and everybody knows that, but I
think for him it's it's it's also what do you
come back for?
Speaker 4 (38:37):
You have to look at that.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
I mean, obviously the quarterback going down with pat is
are they rebuilding now? Probably heading towards that way? You
can you know, it's a tough decision. But for him,
what an amazing career. And I don't know what if
I was in his situation, I know what.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
I would do.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Are you going to the wedding?
Speaker 4 (39:00):
No, I don't think so, really think I didn't get
an invite, but.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Well no, I don't know if anybody's got invites. It's early,
it's a it's a.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
If I was invited, absolutely I would go.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Okay, maybe a plus one I'll go with you. Yeah,
let's go to ten Rhode Island.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Is it in Rhode Island? I didn't know that. So
you got insight scooped.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Sources close to me tell me, yeah, that at jen
Rhode Island.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
What does this game tomorrow night come down to?
Speaker 4 (39:29):
In your opinion, Sam Donald?
Speaker 7 (39:32):
I think, I think, I think that's really it is.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
The jury still out on Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
I think in.
Speaker 7 (39:38):
Big games, absolutely absolutely, and it should be That's the
way it should be until you show that you can
show up in the play. And this is any young
any quarterback out there, this is what I always say.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
You can do.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Even like Drake May, you can.
Speaker 7 (39:52):
You can say, hey, you're playing so well, such good football,
and I agree with you you're doing well, but let's
see what you do come playoff time. Ca the big
time games, big time stakes. Are you gonna be able
to control the ball? You're not gonna You're not gonna
turn it over. You're gonna be able to leave your team.
That's what the great ones do. That's what separates the
great ones from the from from average quarterbacks average good quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
And so we'll see what sam Donal can do tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (40:16):
He cannot go out there and throw four in the
steps is like he did last time. He's got to
play well because they've got a very good football. They
have a super Bowl team. If he plays well, this
team could win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Seems like there's a push happened yesterday with the NFL,
like now we got to start looking at these playing
surfaces and uh, you know he had the non contact
with Micah you know Patrick, obviously that was an injury
by contact. But what is the disconnect here? Is it
just owners are cheap and don't want to pony up
(40:46):
to get the best playing surfaces.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
You know, owners are they're interested in saving money and
making money. Uh you know it's like the whole are
we gonna have eighteen games? I think that would be sillyupid,
but we always the name of money.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
Yeah, well yeah, huh we are having eighteen games?
Speaker 4 (41:06):
Yeah, I think well, I think that's silly. I think
it's stupid. I don't understand it.
Speaker 7 (41:09):
You look at guys are dropping my flies anyway as
it is right now, I don't understand why you would
want an extra game. But yeah, the surface, that's another
thing too. What is the safest surface out there? They
have data to prove it that grass is the best.
You can do it if you have, you know, just
put Pody up the extra money. You're making a lot
of money anyway. I don't understand it, but I guess
(41:31):
you know. Also, I don't own a football team.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
I got some information yesterday and and I don't know
if it's been made public. PAULI have you Did you
see that information that I sent to you guys on
the injuries with the different playing surfaces. I didn't see
that out there. So it actually had it ranked surfaces
with acls, achilles, other injuries. So each category and all
(41:56):
of these stadiums, so it would either be low, medium,
or high risk and it's out there. That information is there,
and it's that specific each category. It would be like
Achilles tears, ACLS, sprained ankles. I mean, crazy, do you
want nat? Do you want regular grass? Is that what
(42:18):
you would want to play on regular glass.
Speaker 7 (42:21):
I think you ask any planner, they all prefer grass.
It's easier on your body. It's just it's natural. It
gives that's the stuff you want to play on for sure,
without without a question.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
I think you mentioned Seattle can go to the Super Bowl.
How good are the Rams?
Speaker 4 (42:38):
Rams right now? They give my top nod.
Speaker 7 (42:42):
A complete football team, and I loved how they've evolved.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Sean McVay is such a good coach.
Speaker 7 (42:49):
They're using that heavy personnelity, using those two running backs
with Blake and Kyrien like it is. It's fun to
watch the schemes that he keeps coming up with. Than
Matthew Stafford. You protect him and he'll give you the world.
You know, he'll go out there and play at this.
He'll probably get the MVP this year. The defense looks great.
(43:11):
This is and they're still pretty young too. I mean,
they're gonna be pretty good for a while.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
Right now.
Speaker 7 (43:15):
For sure, they seem to be the most complete team
out there. Because of the way Matthew Stafford is playing
that it makes them very dangerous, specially obviously in the NFC.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
I think that's they're the best team.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
I forget who it was we had an analyst on
last week and they talked about the difference when you
get older at quarterback, like Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to
get hit. You know, you play because you're like, damn,
this is gonna hurt when you're younger. But then you
get older and you're like, uh, I know this is
gonna hurt. I'm not going to take take the hit,
and you play differently. But as a player who gets
(43:50):
hit on every play, how do you view your quarterback
when he hangs in there and knows that extra split
second it's he's gonna get crushed, but it could mean
a touchdown.
Speaker 7 (44:02):
Yeah, That's that's where you have all the respect in
the world. And Matthew Stafford is one of the toughest
damn quarterbacks they ever played the position. The way he
goes out there and puts his body on the line
and keeps coming back, and it makes you want to
play harder for that guy. It makes you trust that,
it makes you love that guy, and that all goes
into winning. And you've got a guy who's gonna put
(44:22):
his body online to get the win. You'll go to
the distance, You'll do whatever it takes for him.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Have fun tomorrow night. Thanks again for joining us. Tone,

Speaker 4 (45:33):
Yes, they will, They absolutely they should. Yes, this is
a big moment for the Knicks. I think it's a
big moment for any team. Now, remember in the inaugural season.
When the Lakers won it, there was a lot of
ringling from the Lakers side of We're not gonna hang
(45:54):
out an end season championship banner. All we paying is
championship banners and re tired numbers. What did the Lakers
end up doing hanging a banner in crypto? So, yes,
absolutely if I'm the Knicks, because this is a great
building block for what's to come down the road. And
(46:15):
you can always revert back and look up into the
rafters and see that end season tournament banner hanging there
and say, hey, as a team, this is something that
we achieved, and this is something we have bigger goals.
Don't get me wrong with winning a championship, but this
is a building block for this team.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
All right, let me play conspiracy theorist. Do you think
maybe the commissioner asked the Lakers to hang the banner,
encourage them, we want this to be important, we want
this to be bigger, and probably would say that to
the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (46:55):
Yes, okay, I think it came down from the top. Yes,
So I think Commissioner Silver talked to the bus family
and said, basically, hang this banner because everyone else will
fall in line, MI, Milwaukee has done it. They won
last year. My only cautionary tale to this is the
(47:17):
last two winners of this tournament never got past the
second round. Again, this is an early sample size, but
the Lakers didn't get past the second round in the
playoffs two years ago. Milwaukee didn't get past the second
round in the playoffs a year ago. Again, small sample size.
But to me, the Knick or excuse me, the Yeah,
(47:39):
the Knicks are a better team than those last two champions.
I believe so in the East is not as dominant
as the West. So I think the Knicks are sitting
pretty good right now.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Do you feel robbed that you didn't get a chance
to play for the Cup?
Speaker 4 (47:58):
No?
Speaker 7 (48:00):
One.
Speaker 4 (48:00):
I think it's a cool concept. I was being, Oh,
I mean not really, do you.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
Get I mean, I think when you went to the
finals and you guys lost, does the second place team
get anything?
Speaker 4 (48:19):
A pat on the bat?
Speaker 2 (48:20):
That's it. You don't get a you don't get a
runner up banner?
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (48:27):
Wouldn't that be something you would put in the rafters?
That absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
I would not put a runner up banner in at
the time. Casco field House now is game bridge. Absolutely not.
We have Eastern Conference champion banners I believe hanging in there. Okay,
but I would not absolutely not. Am I going to
put a runner up banner up? Absolutely? That would be
(48:53):
painful to watch Theodore to look up every that's painful.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
But putting the Eastern confer friend's banner up is kind
of saying we finished runner up.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
There you go up, you know.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
I I do like what this tournament meant for the
Spurs because you want to play in some important games
before you get to the playoffs. It's a young team,
and I think playing in a big game, playing in Vegas,
playing for some extra money, and playing for the cup.
In all seriousness, I think this is really something that
could be beneficial for this Spurs team.
Speaker 4 (49:33):
What do you think, lad who did Milwaukee beat in
the NBA Cup a year ago? I believe they are
the current NBA champions. Am I correct? Building for young teams?
So if you're the Spurs, you beat the Lakers in
(49:55):
La Luca Lebron Austin Reevez, then not only that, you
beat the defending champs in Vegas in the semi final
game are great game? And then you lose in the
Finals to the Knicks. If you're if you're Wimby and crew,
(50:15):
these are great building blocks for our young team. And
on top of that, Wimby's on minis restrictions, so we
didn't see the full capability of him. If I'm the Spurs,
I'm in a great position right now.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
How many teams can win the West? Five?
Speaker 4 (50:37):
Okay, see Denver Houston. A lot would have to happen
with the Lakers, but they can four. I would say
those four. Four.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
So I got the only careers you got thunder Nuggets, Rockets, Lakers.
So these are the best odds as of today that
the best starts with four teams in the West. Thunder Nuggets, Rockets, Lakers, Knicks, Pistons, Cabs, Spurs.
(51:11):
So yeah, four teams, four teams.
Speaker 6 (51:13):
All right.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
The only thing on that odds list I would probably
put lower, just because I have not liked how they
played all season long, is the Cleveland Cavaliers. Very disappointing
start to the season in my opinion, this is a
team that had the second best overall record a year ago,
they ran away with the Eastern Conference, and they were
(51:35):
very disappointing in the playoffs, losing to my beloved Indiana
Pacers in the second round, but they have not shown
any fight or desire. I know injuries have been a
little bit a part of it, but I've been very
disappointed not to say that they can't. Right now, Detroit
the Knicks are the two clear cut favorites in the East.
(51:59):
Orlando is kind of looking over their shoulder a little bit,
and then to me, this is where Cleveland falls in
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Yeah, this is the window of opportunity for the Knicks
because now Detroit was a surprise last year. They've played
really well, been consistent. The Cavs are a disappointment, Boston's
banged up, Sixers banged up, So it feels like this
is the year for the Knicks to go to the
NBA Finals.
Speaker 4 (52:26):
I would be absolutely shocked if the Knicks do not
represent the East.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Okay, now, Dan, there's a lot of.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
Work to be done, and I love how Detroit has
started the season and how they've played, But it comes
down to this, and these two teams faced one another
in last year's playoffs. Do you trust Kay Cunningham and
Detroit in these big moments? Because I've seen, we've seen
(52:56):
Jalen Brunson against Detroit in Detroit, I just trust the
Knicks more. And you could say what you want about
Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns defensively. Give me Josh Hart,
give me o g give me the Carol Bridges, give
(53:17):
me Deuce. I just trust those dudes more come playoff time,
because I know at the end of the day, the
ball is going to be in the hands of Jalen Brunson,
and the dude just delivers. I just trust the Knicks more.
Not to say that Detroit can beat them, because they
certainly can, but Durham is going to have to continue
(53:39):
to outshine and outplay cat, which he didn't do in
last year's playoffs. So I just trust the Knicks more
at this point, at this point because Detroit has to
show me. They just have to show me.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Did you know that there's a movie based on Dennis
Rodman when he left the Bulls to go to Vegas?
Speaker 4 (54:01):
Right, And I heard they changed the league guy. It
was Jonathan Major who was supposed to play Rodman, And
now I believe it's.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Like the Keys Stamp.
Speaker 4 (54:12):
Yeah, I'm in to see that because I've heard I've
heard stories about that forty eight hours trips.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
For ther What what did you hear?
Speaker 4 (54:23):
Well, I just heard Rodman strip clubs alcohol, uh and
twenty rebounds and who does that going?
Speaker 2 (54:39):
But how surprised are you? How surprised are you that
Phil Jackson let this happen and Michael Jordan allowed this
to happen.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
Why aren't we living in a different time? Could you
imagine if there was TikTok and Instagram back then what
this would have looked like. Okay, I mean again, I'm
sure they sat down Dennis and recanted all the stories
and stuff and that's how they come up with the script.
But we've we've could have we could have solved this
(55:12):
in live time with Instagram and in Twitter and all
that was.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
But I think Michael Jordan said, if we let him
go to Vegas, she's not coming back in the last Yeah.
But but in the in the when they were deciding on, hey,
he needs to blow off some steam, we're going to
let him go to Vegas, Like I can't imagine that
Jordan would allow that to happen.
Speaker 4 (55:39):
Let me ask you a question, this is what I
don't know. In that dog did they end up winning
the championship that year? The season that this happened, yes, okay,
end of line. I think at the end of the day,
Mike knew as long as Dennis is happy, because Dinnis
only really had two things. Rebound and get underneath the
(56:00):
skin of Carl Malone. That was it. That was his
job with scripts and play defense. But I mean his job.
It wasn't like he had to carry the scoring load
like Mike in that time.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Scott, it's still amazing when you look at at Rodman
from you know, this springy kid with the Pistons to
then becoming one of the faces of the NBA dating Madonna,
coloring his hair and he couldn't wait to play against
(56:33):
Karl Malone. Like it was still an amazing story when
you think about it. He wasn't a big time recruit,
not a score. He was a scorer in college, but
you know, when he got to the pros, it's like,
I don't care. I didn't even want to shoot free throws.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
I think the Bad Boys did a good job of
defining his role when he got there, redown and play defense.
And I think you've heard Isaiah tell this story about,
you know, when they used to face the Boston Celtics
and Larry would get upset having Kelly Tripuka and Kurt
(57:10):
Vincent and those guys trying to guard him, and he'll say,
you ain't got no brothers regard me. I mean, that's
that's how very legend was. And then the year they
brought in Rodman and Isaiah saying I got so we've
got no one to God do now. And it was
the worm, So defining his role and him accepting his
role I think really catapulted his career.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Talking to Reggie Miller, the Hall of Famer lead analyst
on NBC Sports, I was watching a video where Isaiah
Thomas took a swing at Rick Mahorne and I think
he hit him and Mahorne laughed. So Mahorne is holding
the ball like people don't may not realize how much
(57:58):
of a bad dude Rick Mahorne was that. You know,
we we we focus on Oakley and the Davis brothers,
but Rick Mahorn was not to be messed with.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
Uh And think about that team Detroit had them all
at one time, Bill Amber, Buddha, Rick m'horn, he was
a part of that. I believe that's when he got
traded or let go, or when he was with Philadelphia
is when this happened, and it was almost like a
mosquito hit him in the face when he was holding
the ball like one of those He didn't even feel it.
(58:36):
But that's when you could let go of some of
your anger back in the day. You can't do that now.
Now you see the whole everyone thinking and acting like
they're gonna fight. Hold me back, hold me back. I mean,
if Dylan Brooks and the wrong really wanted to get
into it, they has gotten into it. But that's that's
all for show.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
Come on, guys, I mean, who would you take if
it was Draymond Green and Dylan Brooks in the cage
in the octagon.
Speaker 4 (59:09):
That's a good one. Oh that's that's a good one.
I I would take neither. There's one guy I would
take over all these dudes current player on our tests,
Oh no longer want to go to mess with my
dude in the octagon. I'm going with Sir n our Test,
(59:31):
one of my favorite teammates ever. He might have had
a few screws, but I absolutely loved playing with. Our
practices were better than the games because you I've never
seen anything want to play. First of all, I've never
seen anyone play defense like this before. He was so
(59:52):
gifted defensively, but he was tougher than I mean.
Speaker 8 (59:57):
I talked about my Davis boys, but I wish I
would I had wrong when I had my superpowers when
I was younger, I got long when you know, it
was really Jermaine's team.
Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
If I would have had him in my younger days,
maybe I would have some damn jewelry. Maybe he would
have been my wrong. See, I would have let him go.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
Wait, I would have let him do what you wanted
to do. If I if Ron had to go to Vegas,
but I thought Alvin Robertson's the one guy nobody wanted
to mess with.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
No, we didn't. Ron and Alvin Robertson. Those dudes, now,
that would be a cage man. I would put money
on that. That's pay per view right there, pay per view.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
I love that. Your your buddy, Mark Jackson tells the
story that he was playing dice and they were they
were like fixed dice and Albert Robert Alvin Robertson was
winning all the money. But Mark said that everybody was
afraid of him. They weren't going to call him on that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
They were going to challenge him no one was going
to challenge him. They knew they were getting cheated skim,
but no one was going to say anything to Alvin.
That was the first thing. John Law, John Long, who
was my mentor. Yeah, do not look say suggest anything
(01:01:25):
to Alban Robertson. Just let it go. If he fouls you,
you say my.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Bad when he fouls you. Back in the good old days,
you know, back in the.
Speaker 4 (01:01:39):
Good old days. So when basketball was just clean and fun.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Well, Vernon Maxwell, Vernon Maxwell's in that category. Two.
Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
He he's a loose screw too. And I love the
part of those shooting guards you did not want to
mess with. I love me some bads. I love me
some mad mats h.
Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
Happy holidays to you. Great to talk to you again.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
Thanks, Happy holidays, Theodore, and to my dan Ants, I
love you guys. Oh ho ho.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
That's Reggie Aloishous Miller Junior. The third
