Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Waken Jake myself, Jake's story, Ellie
talking about baseball producer BBD As we are in the
off season, the season of the Sticks. We'll finish up
with some of the football from the weekend. I enjoyed
my football weekend college and pro have some thoughts on
that at the end. As of today, we are easing

(00:20):
in to the baseball offseason for real, for real. Did
some over unders last episode on our future friend Kylie
McDaniel's projections. I did see America's GM. Jim Bowden had
an article we'll circle back on this offseason. You guys
know that for today, I want to get lost in
the pitching just a little bit, because we did our

(00:42):
annual free Agent Drafted and Talking Baseball. I must enthuse
you to go listen to that. It's one of our
more fun programs and it's in the JM multiverse, bringing
in Rosie and Jolly this time. It's just fun baseball fodder.

(01:03):
Such a fake world of reality. And if you stumble
into a couple thoughts and by the end you're talking,
you know where is where will Quintana sign?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
So go check that out.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
But for me, I thought it was interesting because I
go in there, I've got a couple ideas of, you
know where where guys can land like Cordon Burns.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
You guys already know there's.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I don't want to say a limited market, but teams
willing to pay two hundred million for an ace starting pitcher.
That that narrows down the list a little bit. And
then off of that, you know Burns Cy Young Winner,
Snell Cy Young Winner, and then Max Freed, who, God,

(01:54):
I think we need to put more I think we
need to put more love on Max Fried's name. I
know I did a little of this. He has a
career three oh seven e RA and since twenty twenty,
and I forget if I did this here or elsewhere.
His last one hundred and twelve starts, he's got a
two eight one. What that Max Freed might sneak up

(02:19):
on that two hundred million dollar number. If you want
a high end starting pitcher, you can find it.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
You know Jack Flaherty was nails last year and started
uh for the World Series Champion Dodgers. Hi, Dodger friends.
Hope you guys hang out, Let's talk some sports along
the way. And then, as you guys also know I
mean even the following tier of pitchers, the Nathan Evaldi's, Like,
that's someone if you sign you think they can be

(02:48):
an impact piece for you. Louis Sevanno, he got offered
the qualifying offer. We'll see if he accepts. Dude, I
mean down to Walker Buehler, the old Dog, Sure's or Verlander.
Sean Manaiah is kind of one of the pivot points
of this offseason for me because I think he is

(03:09):
on every team's list of I want that guy. He
might be tapping into something new with his new arm angle,
the guy that sneaky been around for a while, Like
you're gonna get an effort from Sean and I and
it might even be like a one not an ACE.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
That's always the.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Fun baseball offseason debate. What's an ace that this free
agent starting pitching market. You know, if I spoke in
corny bad terms, I'd say there's levels to this. Shane
Bieber is a free agent starting pitching, and I feel
like he hasn't been spoken about a lot. So I

(03:53):
kind of want to sort through my thoughts.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
On this.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Because it does start with Corbyn Burns, and I think
it's interesting nobody had the landing spot. The Mets are
the most obvious team because the Mets have money. The
Mets needs starting pitching. You know, last year was not
supposed to be for the year for the Mets. In

(04:19):
terrific Mets fashion, it turned into a delightful year for them.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
That Corn Burns and the Mets.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Cohen's wallet check front office relationships. Stern's over from Milwaukee,
So there's some heartstrings there. Let's link up and do
this again. Yankee fans remember when they signed Garrett Cole.
Brian Cashman had like a decade and a half long
journey of getting his white whale of Garrett Cole. Then

(04:49):
maybe it's that simple. Maybe it's not. I don't know,
I've I guess in my head and maybe this is
just an old take I need to get rid of.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I've had Max Freed going there and they can do something.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Really cool with the culture, which is where I ended
up in a tangled web of Like the Mets are
going to sign starting pitchers, probably three, at least They
currently have Sanga who got hurt, and like, I don't know,
there's questions about a Japanese player that throws a splitter

(05:24):
coming off of an injured season like that, they're probably
gonna need more than that. David Peterson, who was so
great for them last year, he's currently slotted in as
like theyre two that they'd probably love to have him
slotted in a swing roll of sorts. And maybe that's
just being rude to David Peterson because of.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
His love that you'd love to enter spring with him
on the outside looking in, and you'll end up there
at some point.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
They'll find his way that I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
I I think with Max Max Freed in my head,
Tom Glavin two point zero, run it back, do it again.
And then if if you pair him with the right Cats,
whether that's Walker Buehler was my daydream today. If we're
the Mets, still need a slight rebranding, and that's not
shots fired at the Mets, And maybe they're going to rebrand.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
This whole thing with Juan Soto.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
And by the way, if they do, I don't see
Cohen getting Sodo and Corbyn Burns. I could be wrong
about that. I'm talking about culture change, because it's a
lot harder to.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Get one of the other ones if you do the
Sodo thing.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
But they do both of those, watch out that I
think for me, corn Burns another team that may be
listening that might not be enthused with the way I'm
currently talking the Baltimore Orioles. Is it that they have

(06:49):
new ownership. They traded for Corbin Burns. They traded prospect capital.
I mean between Joey Ortiz's Dal Hall, and I think
they got a draft pick too. You know, JOEI Artiz
looks like a really good young ballplayer. Hall was supposed
to be the Hall, if you will, and he had
kind of an injured year last year that they could

(07:10):
still tap into something there. Then maybe Baltimore is looking
to announce their presence at the table. We made our
outfield look like this to attract starting pitchers, although starting
pitchers just like money. The field helps, the field helps,
but starting pitchers like money. Cornburns worked with the team

(07:31):
last year. I talked about a little bit. He changed
the shape of his cutter to be more of a
contact inducing cutter to try to get longer into games.
As the year went on, he returned to kind of
the strikeout cutter. So the fact that he can even
tap into buttons like that is insane. That maybe it
is Baltimore and maybe where the pitching market gets really fun.

(07:55):
Your Los Angeles Dodgers are kind of in on everyone nowadays,
so maybe they like Burns they come join the party.
You can't rule them out for anyone, so that that'll
be scary. There will be a Jeff Passing tweet for
the Dodgers that horrifies us. At the same time, do
the Dodgers need pitching? They've got so many guys coming back,

(08:18):
and they might get Roki Sasaki for the price of
on the house, So I don't know about that. But
then as you continue to chew through the teams, you know,
I think the Washington Nationals are gonna be a really
fun team this offseason.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
That are the Nationals and.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Orioles gonna be fighting for Cordon Burns? What other big
fish teams get in the mix? Are the Cubs ever
gonna drop kind of that that? Whoa, here come the
Cubs signing? Are the Blue Jays? We know they like
to end up in the mix and they've got deep pockets? Sure,
the San Francisco Giants, how.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Many teams will how many guys will?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
They finished in third place for.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
The race returns And then you know I'm not gonna
secret third option everyone, but like I'm scared of the
Texas teams, Like those teams have the ability to pay
players and they've they've got some bank roll to do it.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Is there gonna be.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Another team that appears from one of the Central Divisions?
Like the team I can't get out of my head
today is the Saint Louis Cardinals. They have Lance Lynn
and Kyle Gibson coming off the books. Okay, can you
turn that into one ace? Is that how they're viewing it?
The Cardinals might not be in the mix too much

(09:40):
this offseason. The rumors I'm hearing is that they they
want to be the Cardinals of old and be smart
and not just go for older, expensive free agents to
try to fill their gaps. I don't know if I
was the Saint Louis Cardinals and I had Paul Goldschmidt
come off the books, lance Lyn and Kyle Gibson, you

(10:01):
know that money turn those three into two good ones
and you might be cooking with gas in Saint Louis.
So there's going to absolutely be a market for Corbin Burns.
It's going to be a good one. Like I saw
an article they were like the Red Sox should be
in in on and yes they should be. They haven't

(10:22):
operated that way in a couple of years now, and
I was gonna say sorry to my boss and friends,
but I think they'd be the first ones to tell you, like,
they don't have themselves in on Corbyn Burns. But again,
that's one conversation with ownership away from they could. Uh
so that market is going to develop and manifest itself

(10:46):
for whatever reason. I'm not as locked on Burns to
the Mets. That could just be a me thing. They're
they're the favorites right ues.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
I think Son of the Orioles may be tied.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Yeah, betting on Hymns specifically. I think it's just coming
from a place of you know, they're gonna do a
big signing this winter at.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Least maybe they have new owners.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
They've got to want to come.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
But they said they were gonna.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
It's been the year that was that was circled when
Max Scherzer agreed to be traded and and that's why
I've agreed to be traded.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
But part of the reason I want to do the
ripple effects of this conversation is I think this free
agency has lined up perfectly for Blake Snell I think
Cordon Burns. Everyone's gonna be fighting for him to a degree, right,
like teams are gonna tap out at a certain price
tag and whatever. But he's Cordon Burns, He's got a

(11:44):
nasty pitch mix. All the numbers still like him. He's
Cordon Burns, He's reliable. Throw that cutter. I mean that
should even age. Well, Okay, you miss out on Cordon Burns,
who's somehow younger than Max Freed. The Beard effect kicks
in there. Okay, you missed out on Corn Burns. Max

(12:05):
Fried is there. That's gonna be a nice option for someone,
and Max Freed is gonna get paid. I laid out
the numbers for him. He has been one of the
best pitchers in baseball. Blake Snell then follows. So Freed
is listed at thirty one, Burns is listed at thirty.
Blake Snell's listed at thirty two, so he's a little older.

(12:26):
There are some numbers with Snell that would tell you
he might be the more dominant pitcher than either of
these two. So you're gonna have front offices fighting for
Burns or Free. Do you want the righty or the lefty?

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Whatever?

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Teams miss on those you're gonna have Snell waiting there
with more of a pedigree than either of them, I
mean the two say Youngs. When he got into a
rhythm last year with San Francisco, he was lights out.
He gets better as the months go on. Every year

(13:05):
his second half has been better than his first half,
which is just unreal. The guy has postseason history. He's
pitched on both coasts. Like whatever, front office, GM and
ownership lose out on Burns and Snell or Burns and
Freed and are looking around like, Okay, what's next. Snell
is gonna be a fine option for less money in

(13:28):
less years. So after the hellish free agency Snell went
through previously, I think this is gonna be a great
one for him. And that's where the Mets are the
next team in general for me, because sure there's gonna
be teams out there that sign multiple starting pitchers. We
know the Mets have the bankroll and they need at

(13:52):
least three starting pitchers. We've said Sean Manyah has a
good chance to come back. I think Sean and Ia
is gonna have a very interesting free agency because after Snell,
he has an argument to be the fourth guy.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
So does Jack Flaherty.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
If you if you bring Roki Sasaki in the mix,
that just throws everything off because again he's playing essentially
for free.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yankees.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
People say likes the Padres.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Let's see whoever gets the somewhat generational young starting pitcher
for league minimum that helps, that is gonna help their team.
And then I mean, you know, there's other guys that
can make arguments. For one year, like Nathan Valdi is
a very interesting one for me. His stats actually came

(14:44):
out fine last year, similar war to Manaiah on the whole,
the e RA was up just a little bit, but
I think everything else was there that I'm very interested
to see the Mets and this is the whole thing,
like how long did the Mets flirt with Sterns? That
was two to three years of everyone in baseball knowing

(15:07):
that the Mets were going to take Stearns from the Brewers.
In hindsight, very odd, not normal. Feels like that should
have been handled differently. They traded Max Scherzer and Justin Berlander.
They ate the money to get prospects. Last year they
go dancing. The money's gone. Oh, the money's not gone.

(15:30):
The money's off the books, that they have more money
and they need these starting pitchers.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
That this is a dream.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
This is if you've ever played a dynasty mode or
a franchise mode or out of the park baseball or
whatever it is, this is the one Sterns has the
bankroll to play with and can set up his rotation
however he wants, I mean, and whatever else he wants
to do in the lineup. Pete the meat still a

(15:57):
free agent. People forget. I think it's gonna be so
fun to watch how they build their rotation.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Manaia.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
There's quotes from him that he liked playing there. He
mentioned a discount.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
It'll be interesting to.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
See where the numbers get with him, because everyone's okay
with a discount until you see the final prices on it.
And again with Cohen's wallet, Why should Sean Andyah take
a discount, he might end up saying, or at least
his agent is.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
So let's say this.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
We've got Sanga, Sure, Peterson's in the mix, great one
of Burns and Freed. Okay, we're cooking. We're changing this
team around.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Man.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
They really get to go whichever way they want with it.
Is it Mania the guy that made me excited about
changing changing the tone of the franchise. Walker Buehler, senor
Moxy just closed out the World Series against the Yankees.
He's doing media stuff. Get him in the big city,

(16:58):
that you can change your whole team's identity.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
And what do they value?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Do they want guys with different looks? I think there's
something to that. I don't know what David Sterns believes,
you know, going back to when I build my dynasties
and stuff. Do you want fly ball pitchers? Do you
want ground ball pitchers? Do you want do something fit
city field more than the other. They get to go

(17:25):
any direction they want with it. It is a deep
pitching market that again, they'll get to play the video
game however they want. Would Schurezer or JV come back?
I mean that's kind of insane, right because I don't
I mean, Sureser had a slightly better time than Verlander.

(17:46):
Would one of those old dogs run it back? I mean,
imagine if they brought Madgine, if they did like a Verlander,
Walker Bueler, I don't know. I'm excited. I'm excited for
the New York Mets offseason because they're also going to
control the rest of the pieces. And that's where things

(18:07):
like if the Washington Nationals, I think they're signing a
big starting pitcher, what does that mean for them? I
don't know what kind of timeline they're on. They have
some young pitchers. Do they just want a veteran inning guy?
I throughout Kyle Gibson at the end of our episode,
here's your four or five era and here's one hundred
and sixty innx done. Do they want an impact piece?

(18:29):
Could they be in on a snell? Could they be
in on one of these guys. Absolutely. The Nats used
to be a big budget team and they just went
through this rebuilding process and they're starting to see the
light at the end of the tunnel. They're also going
to be interesting on the offensive side of the ball.
The one that got ahead tilt out of everyone today,
my doing no problem. It was a shower thought. Hasan Kim,

(18:53):
c J. Abrams had his troubles at shortstop, had his
troubles stand the year. You say, hey, CJ, you're a baller,
why don't you tuck over to third Hasong Kim is
gonna pick it at shortstop. CJ, you might be nails
at third base. That's a slightly easier position. Could they
do something like that? Are they gonna bring in an

(19:14):
impact first baseman? Uh? Pete Alonso to the Nats like, hey,
you're taken from your division and now you've got this
young corra of hitters plus Pete the meat. That's fun
that the Nationals are gonna be a big part of this,
and then every team needs starting pitching. Like you think
the Braves are going to be quiet this offseason, I

(19:34):
do not. I love them for a Valdi. I think
that's a great old match. Get him in sale, have
him donate to the Braves foundation. Bing Bong, Nathan Evaldi
fifth and Cy Young next year.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
You know which one's throwing me off?

Speaker 1 (19:51):
You know which one's throwing me off. Everyone's in on
the Tigers and I don't. They're still paying Hobby a
lot of essentially dead money that I don't know. People
are in on them and Bregman, I don't see it.

(20:11):
We went in on the charts on that and Bregman
would get hurt by Kamerica and he gets boosted by
minute made. Also, do you see the Tigers investing? I
mean Bregman's gonna land a twenty five million that's fifty
million just on the left side of their infield. I
still think they have an advantageous opportunity this offseason because

(20:34):
they need starting pitching. Trev throughout Jack Flaherty, I could
see that, Hey, dude, you came here, you had success.
We need arms. You know, they have the advantage of
pitching in a pitcher's park that they can go a
lot of different ways from it that I if I'm
the Tigers. I'm not saying I'm playing from the scrap heap,
but I'm seeing what Lance you know, we not spoiler

(20:58):
spoiler spoiler spoiler for the trade up, we just did
you know we had. I said Verlander should go back
to Detroit. I thought it would be funny if you
pair him up with a young arm and it's just like, hey,
these Tigers, let's do something they I think Trev throughout

(21:19):
Scherzer could be fun. Both those guys have Detroit roots.
That'd be one of those full circle moments for a
young Detroit team. That's kind of pick up momentum. It
is funny in hindsight looking at the roster of starting
pitchers because if you search by projected war for next year,

(21:39):
fourth on the list is Kakuchi, who we kind of
didn't find a landing spot for. Does he just go
back to Houston and shoves because it seemed like they
figured out something there is here Toronto, Anaheim overpay sorry
to Olympian with them Toronto and then it's funny. We'll
see Paveta hasn't made a decision on his qualifying offer yet,

(22:03):
but like his projected war is up there, Alex Cobb
has a big projected war next year that he and
maybe this will be a weird waking Jake list to be.
It's the the players that if they sign with a
good team, you believe in players, if they signed with

(22:25):
a bad team, you wouldn't believe in. I mean Alex Cobb.
If you saw, if you saw the Braves, Rays, Dodgers
sign Alex Cobb, we're all buying Alex copstock.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
If you saw.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
I mean, Rockies are always illegal, which is crazy. You're
one of the thirty teams. Let's figure something out, Rockies anything,
Who else would we hate if Alex Cobbs signed there?

Speaker 3 (22:57):
I don't know why teams are escaping to.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Kind of rude. I don't fully believe that a little
White Sox again that feels like an elite stare right now,
Angels Angels is probably the best example. Sorry, sorry to
our Halos fans, just trying to enjoy an offseason too.
And who knows, maybe they'll sign Blake Snell because they've

(23:22):
they've count Walat's that's never been the issue, shockingly enough.
And man, Shane Bieber. I can't wait to see what
happens with him, because I think the more we get
into it, like, no, Shane Bieber is not on that list.

(23:45):
Whoever signed Shane Bieber, you're stoked. You're like, hey, maybe
next year won't be perfect, like he's gonna be coming
off with Tommy John.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Can't bank on anything for twenty five.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
But even you know, even when he comes back, it's
it's a whole deal that maybe that's not Shane Bieber.
But if you signed Shane Bieber to a two or
three year contract, literally every team loves that. Every team
loves that that. I think he is going to be
a sneaky one. Maybe he's the passing Houston team could
see that that the starting pitcher this offseason. I've been

(24:21):
excited for it. Doing the trade draft today, I got
even more excited for it. I haven't said Frankie Montas
or Matthew Boyd. Let's see the ripple effect of this market.
Let's see what teams start fighting for starting pitching and man,
some of this consolation prizes might end up doing really

(24:44):
well this year. We actually we laughed after the episode
because we couldn't find the Kakuchie home and we said,
if Baltimore it doesn't turn into big budget Baltimore, which
we've been hearing about, could they be a good Kokuchi
land in place? And it's like, oh, maybe. So I'm
excited to see where it goes. I'm excited to see
the first domino. I'm excited to see the ripple effect

(25:05):
outside of Michael wach already signing. And I'd say the
big ones to circle Sean Manyah because I think teams
are gonna fight for him in that Met's discount seems
nice until it's not. But if they want him, they
should be able to figure it out. Another swing piece

(25:26):
Walker Bueller electric do the Dodgers run it back. He's
gonna get some real offers. Teams saw how he finished
off his postseason and they know the rest of his resume.
I mentioned Bieber God I guess if I was doing
the opposite of that, the all your team would be

(25:49):
thrilled with any of these signings. It's Bieber, Bieber and Buehler.
You're just over the moon about it. I think Manaya
comes with as little fear is like what his price
tag will say, Like whatever team ends up with Sean
and I is gonna be stoked because they think he's
peaking into a new level. I don't talk about Roki

(26:14):
Sasaki until he signs maybe the old dog. Maybe Shureser
would be my plot twist to that team, Like if
your team signed shures Or, you're gonna be kind of hype. Yeah,
you get to watch Max Schurzer twirl it for another year.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
So is that five? I should finish out.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
The rotation, make a bad graphic for socials Walker Buehler, Bang,
every team's gonna be excited. Naya yep. Let's throw mad
Max in there for a different angle on it. Shane
Bieber because of the injury price tag. Who's gonna round
out my rotation? Don't say Kyle Hart coming over from

(26:55):
the KBO.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Who's weird?

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Cinderguards a free agent man that moves quick um for Agians,
I'd say a Valdi, But I don't know if a
Valdi signed with a bad team, they want to be excited.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
There's some teams you just you're not gonna be a
team that figures that health for him.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
I feel like I should put someone dumb. Get the
engagement up, Adrian Houser, no.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Comment your weight. Let's see, I'm gonna find my fifth
I don't have it.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Now. Let's talk a little bit of foosball.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Weekend Blitzball Battle five.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
We got the defending champion mcflurry Power taking on hook
line sinkers. And I think the biggest question is can
anybody score off of Colin Stone? That's the biggest question.
Colin Stone won everything last tournament.

Speaker 5 (27:52):
He's got every pitch you can draw up.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
He can move it all over the place.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
Or will you rely on having to get the prying
mantis to give up some runs. The last that he
gave up runs to is actually somebody He'll be facing
Dan Kenobio when you haven't participated in the warehouse, she
gets a little shady prediction time.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
I don't want to scare you here as I pick
mcfluory power. But Colin has just gotten better because since
b before.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
He's been playing in.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
That professional blitzball league with the team Como guys. Hard
to pick against the defending champs.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
I'm also got to pick mcflurry power.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
But I think that old man Dan is going to
surprise us. Kmack admitted to US, I don't like facing
Dan Kenobio. We will see you later today for game
four Blitzball Battle five.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Hey, Now, football weekend and it was a fun one
in the books. I got excited for college football Saturday
because I saw BAM LSU. I mean, that's like the
one you know, I know there's more, but and a
down year, That's what it was making me laugh.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
It was labeled as.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
A down year for both programs. Alabama was at eleven,
LSU was at fifteen. Bama rolled him roll tied Jalen
Milroe twelve carries, one to eighty five four touchdowns. Your
quarterback has some ugly moments at quarterback, but also has
some brilliant moments when they let him go.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
He's awesome.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
And the funny thing did love sportscambaling this weekend? Hello
LSU at night. There's some crazy numbers. I think they
hadn't Brian Kelly. They hadn't lost at LSU at night.
You know, there's just a crazy laundry list of numbers.
The one exception is Alabama, and Alabama did it again

(29:37):
to them that they put up a forty two spot
to LSU's thirteen.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I bet on two teams to win.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
The college football Championship this weekend. You're not gonna like
either pick. I picked ole Miss, who they beat Georgia
and like a do or die win for them. If
they lose that game, they're out of the College FOOTBA
Playoffs and said they win twenty eight to ten. Uh,
kind of in commanding fashion over Georgia two And I

(30:08):
don't know, it was just a crazy number. And if
you know anything about how we do some of our
gambling here, I think if ole Miss makes the dance,
I might get a cash out option on it because
it's it's crazy odds. So again, I could be very wrong.
This is the first year of the college football playoffs.
DraftKings is probably smarter than me on this one. But

(30:29):
I also think ole Miss can beat anyone in the country.
They're an SEC team. They just beat number three Georgia.
Like uh, I think where ole Miss's numbers were want
to get into the f uh. For me, it was
just like okay, like if they win a game, if
they get into the college football playoff and they win
a game, I would be able to cash out and
make money on that. Let's type in my DraftKings code

(30:51):
five six five nine two two thanks time.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
That's not my actual code.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
I get a verification thing verification, So that's not you're
not going to get access to my account and my
riches of money. And these could be very bad bets.
It was all miss plus one thousand. So if they
make and if again, if you have no idea, I
bet twenty five dollars. If they were to win, I'd
get two hundred and seventy five dollars. I don't see

(31:19):
that happening. But again, if I get a cash out option,
I'll be interested. And then the other team I bet
on Boise State, So again, DraftKings might be smarter than me.
Here it was plus plus ten thousand, so I bet
twenty five dollars to win two thousand, five hundred and

(31:43):
twenty five bucks. So hey, if Boise gets in the
dance again, I'll be interested in cash out option. DraftKings
may be smarter than me. That they might not allow it.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
But I don't know. The state of college football is ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
And they're running back who's going to finish at least
top three for the Heisman. Jinti funny name. We've talked
about him on this program before. He stands serial killer
style before the play, just because that's his thing, just
stiff and he's if you've been following college football this year,
because he runs for another two to nine and three

(32:15):
touchdowns again against a bad Nevada team. The point is,
if they make the dance, and it's kind of looking
like they're going to they're ranked twelve, that might not
be a loss on the schedule the rest of the way.
Could if Boise State were to get matched up with
Notre Dame or BYU, your current ninth or tenth teams

(32:38):
in the nation. You don't think Boise State could win
that game. I think they could. Notre Dame lost to
Northern Illinois. It's week two of the.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Season and that was a fun one. EYU undefeated.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
They've got an interesting situation BBD that you might want
to tap into with BYU. They have a Jewish quarterback. Yeah, yeah,
we don't go for that. There right, I did.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Again.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
I don't want to overset my boundaries. There's the by jew.
They're calling him Jake Rehetzrett's laugh.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
I believe Retzolf. So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
College football just finds a way sometimes, man. Uh even Okay,
if I go down the line number eight Indiana, who
beat Michigan by five points, they're undefeated. They have our
favorite coach in the nation, the Google me guy uh
Indian hasn't really beat anyone good.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Those were just two random betts I placed over the
weekend that I thought I should tell you, guys, college
football fun. That's my analysis. Let me go to the
pros because I also had a fun moment there because
it started off on Thursday night. Ravens Bengals thirty five
thirty four. Lamar and the Ravens put on a show,

(33:57):
especially in the fourth quarter. Both teams did. Lamar gets
like a signature all time highlight. He kind of makes
like a jump throw three point shot where he leaves
the goose neck up for Ravens touchdown and the two
things I need to say. Lamar has also a signature

(34:17):
run in this game that he drops back he runs
to the near sideline. Okay, so this was the equation
I was doing in my head. He escapes pressure and
runs to the near sideline. I would say, let's say
twenty out of the thirty thirty two NFL starting quarterbacks

(34:37):
could do that part of it. Okay, so now we're
down to twenty. He runs to the sideline and isn't
forced out of bounds by the defensive ends who had
an angle on him. Okay, so let's say there's I
don't know, there's five or ten quarterbacks that would have
been able to do that part, and that might be high.

(34:58):
He then continues to run tiptoeing down the sideline, setting
up blocks. And they asked Herbstreet who him and al
Michaels were fantastic in the booth Rest in peace, Ben Herbstreet.
That was pretty brutal over the weekend. There's a tough
Instagram feed, tough to turn on college game day to
the Ben Herbstreet montage. That was tough.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Saturday morning for me.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
May are king rip, but they asked I think al
Michaels asked Herbstreet how many quarterbacks can make that play?
And he said one, and Lamar is doing He's tying
Michael Vick for some quarterback rushing records. You know, I
know we appreciate Lamar and there's the people out there.
Lamar's playing better Mahomes. He sure is. And let's see

(35:45):
what goes on with Patrick and the Chiefs as they
kind of continued their win streak over the weekend. Lamar
is absolutely balling out right now. And I'm wondering. I'm
not wondering if we're missing it, because if you're watching
for well, you know, Lamar's good. But man, he you know,
I remember the Tom Brady quote saying Lamar was the

(36:07):
best quarterback in the league, and everyone is just kind
of like, okay, is that just a flippant Brady comment.
Brady doesn't give flippant comments. He was about that, and
the way Lamar is running and passing, he is probably
playing the best quarterback in the league right now. Again,
everyone gets nervous because if Mahomes hits that go button
one week, he's still Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
On the other side.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
I've told you guys how the Bengals have been tough
for me this year. The slow start Bangals. They're gonna
kick in the gear. Here they come and they haven't.
They're four and six.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
It is tricky because two of those losses are to
the Ravens. Oh I've told you are my super Bowl
favorite right now, there are a lot of people super
Bowl favorites. There's also a one point loss to the
Chiefs in there, and then like lost to the Eagles
one score to the command I shouldn't throw that one in.

(37:04):
The Bengals have to be very special the rest of
the way. I don't think they're going to get in
the dance. They still have They've got two versus the
Steelers left and then at the Chargers. If they win
that one, they'll have some hope if they make it
to the dance. Watch out because Joe Burrow I kind
of forgot. I've been doing a lot of Red Zone

(37:24):
this year. Red Zone Sundays. You're catching the highlights whatever
I mean, you're catching live highlights. Essentially. It's like you're
watching the game. Watching every Burrow snap was an absolute treat.
And I don't know, I mean, Mahomes. This was kind
of my tweet. I said, Mahomes is Mahomes. Sometimes Josh

(37:47):
Allen runs like Prime Gronk out of the QB position
while playing well, Lamar and Burrow are my favorite two
qbs to watch in the NFL right now. Joe Burrow,
if the Sinsina Begles had, Let's see, who do I
want to accidentally throw under the bus. Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
I've told this show.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I've very much enjoyed watching Kirk Cousins this year, and
I think he is He's graduated from like mediocre average
Kirk Cousins, so like Kirk Cousins can give you a day.
I don't think Kirk Cousin makes it out of that
game healthy. There was pressure in Burrow's face all night
he was creating plays. He dropped in a pass it

(38:28):
almost looked unreal. They talked about on the broadcast. They
were like, was he aiming for a different receiver? The
touch he put on it while getting lit up over
the middle, over the linebacker in front of the safety,
the effort he put in. I don't want to say
I kind of forgot because I Joe Burrow good. But
it's been awaking Jake running joke for a while. Now

(38:49):
go look at that LSU team that won. Go look
at the program since then. Seems like Burrow was the
guy and he is the guy. It was fun to
see him again. If they can somehow snake their way
into the back end of the playoffs, holy smokes, because
Burrow's awesome. Oh yeah, and that Jamar Chase guy ain't
bad too. I think he was eleven for two sixty four.

(39:13):
Eleven for two sixty four. His last touchdown to throw Chase.
They were both sick on it. What a fun way
to start off the football weekend. Uh unlike Sunday. Sorry,
Giants and Panthers. Hello Munich game. You guys know I
love the euro Games and they're announcing they're doing more
next year.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Goodell was hyped.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
You know I'm about it. Why not screw it?

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Panthers winning overtime. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
We really shouldn't tough Tyrone Tracy fumble. Giants going into
their bye week. They the Daniel Jones conversations. If he
gets hurt, his money's guaranteed. They kind of can't risk
that anymore. They're currently projected for the two pick. Danny's done.
You gotta go get that pick, and you can't have
his contract kick in. It's gotta stop Panthers two game

(40:06):
win streak. Hello, Hello Juba Hubbard. Good and Bryce Young
smiling again, which we like and we support. So that
was kind of a tough way to start it out
into the one PM where Jake's collecting some not cashing
in on my receipts. The Bears were one of the
big losers of the weekend. They lose to the formerly

(40:28):
two and seven Patriots nineteen to three. They do not
score a touchdown at home again. The Bears snaked away
with a couple of their wins this year, even that
first week against Tennessee. Do you guys remember that was
the Will Levis throwing the ball the wrong way game? Like,

(40:49):
they they got served that win, and they they snuck
out a couple other that Rams game. They are now
on a three game loser. They have the Packers, the Viking,
the Lions, the Niners, the Vikings, the Lions. Let me
say that again, Packers, Vikings, Lions, Niners, Vikings, Lions. We

(41:13):
could be looking up and talking about a very different
story with the Bear. Schefter said, they're thinking about starring
Tyler Bagent. You remember he got some run last year
and he kind of plays sick oball. I don't know
if they're there, Schefter, you'd like to think knows a
lot more than me. Though it already feels like there's
a wheel off the Bears season because they've lost three

(41:33):
in a row and it started with the Hail Mary,
My God. Things get very interesting up there. It seems
like Eberflus is lining up to be a dead duck coach,
and you compare Caleb Williams with someone. I'm not cashing
in anything on Caleb yet still very talented. Something with
that Bears franchise man just never easy from the QB position.

(41:56):
Go Patriots, go Sure, Drake May to Drake May and
Jayden Daniels. How about how do you like that I
mentioned the Chiefs stayed undefeated kind of, I said, it's
because my Broncos had him, had him by the balls
field goal blocked by Leo Chanel from Talking Giants Fame.
They were all over him in the draft. And yeah,

(42:19):
I was watching this game with some friends and they
looked at me like Houdini for a second because I
was like, you know, I've been telling you guys, the
Chiefs have this win streak. They need to roll it
into Buffalo next week.

Speaker 2 (42:31):
Game of the Week.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
I'm not saying the I'm not saying the Buffalo Wild
wind gods kicked in to block that field goal, but
the Chiefs remain undefeated there nine and zero, and it
sets up for that Bills game, which in Buffalo. I
don't know, are we going to see the Chiefs tap
in and give their best game of the season, or

(42:53):
are the Bills at home seeing a weakened are not
as strong? Nine and oh, Chiefs team gonna take it.
I'm my early lean as Bills that the Chiefs can't
fully tap in right now and they might need to
get that loss.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Let me see where I'm at.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Midweek, because betting against the Chiefs would be a foolish
act for if you took the other team to win
at all this year. Let's see what else. At one o'clock,
Bill's Colts Bill somewhat dominate. They get out to an
early ten to nothing lead. They win thirty to twenty.

(43:32):
Colts are now four and six. E Saints Falcon Saints
get back in the win column. Remember the two to
zero Saints offense that was changing football? They had it
won since then seven straight losses. They break that one again.
Tough one for my guy Kirky, no touchdown passes. They
lose to this Saints team, very Falcon Saints. This game

(43:55):
felt like and the Saints were happy, which that was
nice for them because Derek was getting killed by his teammates.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
As of a week ago.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
The forty nine Ers beat the Bucks. I mentioned I
did a lot of sports scambling this weekend and Jake
Moody currently not a friend of the program. I love
my Jakes, but he misses three field goals. The Bucks
should have known. They kept it tighter than you'd think,
but they did get some support. And are the Niners back?
Run CMC. Christian McCaffrey is back. Rock Purdy throws for

(44:27):
three point fifty three through the air. The Niners train
is about to come back. They play the Seahawks at
home next week. Handle that one and then we'll find
out Packers and Bills.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
That'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
But the Niners with CMC is a different program, and
they looked good outside of their field goal kicker missing
three kicks. Steelers Commanders, This is one of my good
bets bet the Steelers always trying. It was a makeup bet.
I'm gonna be honest, and I put it on the
Steelers to win, and they did late in Live What

(45:02):
a throw by Russell Wilson.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Men in his face. Commanders.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
They were up ten at one point, and the Steelers
come back in this one. They win twenty eight to
twenty seven, keeping the Commanders out of field goal range.
Kind of controversial fourth down throw that looked short but
kind of didn't. But again, I was on the Steelers,
so it sure looked short to me. That was a
weird one.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
Steelers are seven and two.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Mike Tomlin and Russ cooking a little bit insane. Commanders
are seven and three this one. If you showed us
before the season, everyone would have said, no, the simulation's broken.
The Steelers, Russ is getting confident, George Pickens is making
crazy plays like Tomlin can coach.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
When TJ.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
Watt plays for the Steelers, they're essentially undefeated. Not a
proper stat but true. Vikings and Jacks win an ugly one,
twelve to seven. Honestly, no thanks, Darnold. Three interception day.
We'll get to golf. Chargers they beat the Titans. Honestly,
not really well talking about this game. Why Quinn Johnson,

(46:12):
it's been racking it up lately. Chargers are six and three,
hardball man, It's just no joke. Dude, Calvin Ridley two scores,
good for him.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
The Eagles.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
This is another Jake did well. Call him a bunch
of guys around the table. Eagles are gonna kill them, right,
No Dak. They sure did thirty four to six again
another Jalen Hurts good stat line fourteen of twenty two
hundred yards, two touchdowns. The Eagles are kind of peaking.
It looks like they've found their confidence again. They have

(46:45):
their identity. Let's run the ball and let's win. And
aj Brown is massively important to that offense and those
twenty Jalen Hurts dropbacks. The Cowboys, I mean this, we
were talking about this not being a good team without Dak.
They're entering a scary part of their season. So yeah,
I don't know if the big fella is gonna make

(47:07):
it through the year coaching for them and Cowboys, man,
how quickly did they go from like this talented, stacked
Cowboys team to the cupboard looks empty? Man coverard looks
really empty? Scary Cardinals Jets another one where Jake did
well and I think I teed.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
This one up well.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
The Jets, man are not good and the Cardinals kind
of are there. Six and four. Kyler Murray with a
couple highlight touchdowns in this one. They are now on
a four game win streak. You're Arizona Cardinals leading the
NFC West. A couple of road games coming up for them,

(47:50):
Seattle and the Vikings. But man, hey, handle your business.
Sure their last two wins twenty nine to nine over
the Bears, thirty one over the Jets. You know, if
we saw the Chiefs or another team doing that, we'd
be like, you gotta look at this. Not they're dominating.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
Man.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
They've won five out of six. Their losses look pretty okay.
One scored a Buffalo to start the year. One scored
to Detroit. They got routed by the Commanders. That was
kind of Jaden hype time. But they are. If you
didn't know Arizona and you were just putting things down
on paper to start the year, I think you'd like
this team a lot. Kyler Man, he is fun and electric.

(48:35):
Lions Texans go off five interceptions bad they won. You're
not getting too much more analysis because fell asleep on
the couch at halftime. That's just honest, that's surreal of it.
So waking up find out the Lions one that was
kind of cool. Sure, happy for them. Couldn't break down
the tape for you. Maybe I will tonight. Rams fins

(49:00):
in La. Let's see if Trev's rams can get it done.
Let's see if Tua continues to be back, and if
the Dolphins can tap into any of that.

Speaker 2 (49:10):
Is Trev going to this game? I don't care.

Speaker 1 (49:13):
He's out, he's out. Go check out the trade draft.
I think that's it. Uncle Dan Lake
