I'm Carol Fisher, and I'm hosting a podcast called The Girlfriends,
a show about a group of women who all have
one thing in common.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
All of us.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Have this scarlet letter of I dated a murderer.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Yeah. Back in the nineteen nineties in Las Vegas, a
few of us dated the same guy, Bob. He was
amazing on paper, a doctor, a pilot.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
He spoke several languages, he did medical missionary work, and
he was Jewish, and it was just how much better
could it get?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
After we took our turns dating Bob, we did what
girlfriends do. We debriefed, but it quickly became a parent
that I knew something my friends did not.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
She said, Oh, you obviously don't know about the skeletons
in his closet, And I go, what skeletons in the closet?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Bob had a big secret.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
His first wife, Gail, apparently walked out of their apartment
in nineteen eighty five and was never seen again.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
It's like there was just something always off.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Before too long, we had formed a club dedicated to
bitching about Bob eating noodles.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
And figuring out what happened to Gail. It was all
just gossip. Until the prosecutors came knocking and our little
club became part of a multi state investigation.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
There's nobody, no forensics, no admissions, an extremely difficult, circumstantial
case based in large parts on things that the defendant
had said to his girlfriends.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Nearly thirty years later, I'm going back to talk to
all those girlfriends to find out everything Bob did and
how he got away with it.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
He dated the entire Jewish professional community. Run Run girlfriend run.
She told me that he was mad and he tried
to drown the cat.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
I thought to myself, I'm lucky to be alive, and
then I kept thinking who else did he hurt.

Speaker 6 (02:27):
I would call him and I would say, I know
you killed my sister. I will always hound you and
haunt you.
