Speaker 1 (00:00):
Don't you think to be a positionless player you have
to sacrifice too.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yeah, the ultimate sacrifice. Andre Agledalard. That's why he's in
in the rafters in Golden State now, because he came
off the bench for really the whole run with the Warriors.
I mean, he was one of these was one of
the best players. He was a borderline all star. People
forget when he first went the Golden State and he
came off the bench like it was a big deal.
It was tough one, but he came in. But that
versatility coming off the bench allowed the Warriors to do
(00:26):
different things. He could come in from anybody from Steph
to Dremond and there you know what I'm saying, and
there and that lineups would be good. And that's why
those Warys teams were good. They had a whole slew
of positionless players.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Welcome back to another episode of Go What's Up?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Seth Got up? Trade? Another another week? Another episode was good?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Another episode, man, I mean, I like where we're going
with this small manum Man. We're doing real good at
this point, man, because the people are now responding, I'm
glad you got your Twitter fixed and now like you
could chime in and kind of weigh in on these
different topics.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
But overall, I.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Just think that us putting respect on these past players'
names and even current players and what they mean to
the game has helped the nuance of the conversation man.
And it's kind of like timely lining up.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, I'm enjoying them. That's the biggest thing. I'm having
fun reminiscent talking talking about the game, showing love to
the to the past players, current players just I mean
were basketball heads and Hooper, so we talk about the
game all the time. So it's good to put it
out there, some feedback from the from the audience and
argue with some people online and keep disagreeing and agreeing
(01:44):
on some stuff and let's let's keep it rolling.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yeah, absolutely, man, And I think that's the cool.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Thing about all this is just because again it's a
competitive debate, but also like we're not disrespecting any players.
We get to show love to everybody and and also
explain what the criteria is of qualifying on this go tier.
Somebody in the comments mentioned why we didn't mention them
brand and you know, like.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's just different things.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Some people are going to get left out but then
you have to really think about the criteria. If they're
one time All Stars, they're two time All Stars, like
respect to their careers.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
But we're talking about longevity.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
And you made a good point last week about how
just certain things like how could I put somebody in
my top five off a personal feeling versus the actual resume?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
You know what? So I think that was like a
very very important point, man.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, think about this part too, is real nuanced. So
we get into very specific prototypes or archetypes of players
or talk about specific parts of their games, and we
dial it in so like when we're doing our top fives,
it's like our topic today, or we're talking about post players,
we're just talking about the individual back to the basket,
(02:53):
how they are when you're throwing the ball on the post.
We obviously know a lot of different players can do
a lot of different things, but we're we're really breaking
these topics down into specific category specific skills, and that's
why this part is a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, so let's just jump into it. Man.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Today we're doing the greatest positionless players of the twenty tens. Man,
And obviously you know very current you played in this era,
and you know, for the twenty tens, we saw a
shift towards positionless basketball in the NBA, where there's a
lot of versatility, where players can accept many roles.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
I wanted to talk to.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
You about, like what qualifies as a position less player?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
For me, it's the ultimate versatility. You look for somebody
that can do a little bit of everything on the floor.
I mean, if you look defensively, you got to be
able to guard multiple positions really sometimes one through five.
Got to be strong enough to hold a hold up. Physicality,
got to be quick enough to movie your feet. And offensively,
is are you a plug and play type person? Can
(03:53):
you play different positions offensively? Do you have a lot
of different skill sets or you're not just a specialist
in one area for me? For me, when I'm looking
at like a positionless type player, I look more defensively,
Like I define your position as defensively, what what can
you guard on that end of the floor, Because we're
talking about some players who can guard a lot of
(04:14):
different positions, but then offensively, they've got to plug him
into one spot. You got to put specific players around
him to make it work offensively. So to me, it's
more defensively and that shows your versatility. But what's your
take on that?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, I was gonna take the contrarian route and say,
isn't it just instead of saying positionless, you're just a
basketball player, right, because if we're playing pick up, you're
gonna have to do these things anyway for your team
to win. And I think sometimes it comes down to
whatever it takes, right And just from some current basketball situation,
ruy Hacha Murro was like, oh man, we need we
need somebody to rebound. Now he's six to eight, you
(04:50):
know what I mean. But at the end of the day,
you're six'. Two you would go rebound to secure for
your team to, win you know WHAT i. Mean AND i,
think like that's an easy excuse to, say OH i
don't do, that but you we need somebody.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
That actually does.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
That isn't rebounding a part of the, game so you
should be able to just go through that regardless to
secure the. Wins SO i, think once, YOU i do
understand the positionless, thing BUT i also understand like sometimes
players become robots and think that they only are supposed
to do things and stay out of the other.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Way so it's kind of. Interesting that's what.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Makes somebody's playing specially they go above their heads in certain.
Areas like you got a six to six guy who
might be the best rebound on your team because he's
he's putting in the extra. Effort he's doing that like
A Draymond green. Type he's six, six but his will
is you know What i'm. Saying the way he plays the,
skills he can guard five and that makes some position
Liss if you couldn't rebound a hold down the, pain
(05:43):
then he wouldn't fit that.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Category, yeah he would be a. Guard you're, right valid.
Point does positionless basketball help or hurt the?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
GAME i think it helps. It it grows the game
in all. Senses for, ME i look at like the,
grassroots the younger skill, Development like you're looking at kids growing.
Up just because you're the tallest player on your six
seven eight year old, team it used to Be i'm
one of the toss on the. Team throw me in the,
Pain i'm gonna be a Big now it's, like, oh he's, tall,
(06:11):
right let's still put the ball in his. Hands still
try to develop all areas of. Skill he got to
be able to shoot past dribble because at the next
level is Not you don't want to be tied down
in one. Position you want to be able to play.
Anything you might not grow up to be seven, foot
you know What i'm. Saying whatever it, is you need
to have all those, skills you need to work on those.
Things even if you are six six.' ten you want
(06:34):
to be able to play on the perimeter when you
get to, high, school college even. The LEAGUE so i
mean some of the players like in the two thousands
and twenty teens that we're going to, talk about set
that set the Precedent for you're not gonna be pigeonholed
into a certain position just because you're. Your height one
more thing that the versatility and the positionless basketball breaks
to the game is more just a faster. Pace highlights
(06:56):
it's less player just like your your prototypical big or
your protopical. Point guard it's more every team is looking
for link link that's sixty five to six nine dude with, with, size, length.
Athleticism speed so just the game is a faster pace
and it's. More HIGHLIGHTS so i think that's fun to
watch as. A, FAN yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
I agree so let's just jumping right.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Into it we're going to talk about the, first player
and the first Player Is Lebron, James man this dude
is the archetype of, positionings.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Play you KNOW what?
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I mean lebron could literally play. All positions he can defend.
All positions he can act as a, point guard he
can act as, a wing he can act as A
big his playmaking and scoring and his defense shows why
he has all, these accolades you KNOW what. I mean,
four MVPs, four championships four.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Final, MVPs now.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
His versatility is What the lebron sexuals or whatever you,
problem like they use that argument for him as to
go and, to, go yeah because it's a bill at, like,
it's oh he's, The best he's the best player because
he can do a little bit. Of everything is.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
It interesting that his potential is up There?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
With shaq BECAUSE when I when i, say that, You
say shack is the, most dominant and this is the.
Most versatile and sometimes you feel the most dominant should have,
won more and you feel like the most versatile should
have won more because of their god.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Given, skills yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
And THAT'S and i go back to the same thing
as you Talk, About shaq but you go back TO
The mj, lebron DEBASE like mj was a, dominant score
like you couldn't. Stop HIM he, I mean i'm sure
if he, wanted to he could have been a little
bit more versaal to get a. Pass more he could
have averaged ten assists if he. Wanted to but he
had that killer Mentality Like i'm i'm a, dominant scorer
throw me. The ball i'm gonna put the ball in.
(08:48):
The hole so why do you need? That versatility, you
know WHILE am i throwing it to somebody who's who's
not as good? AS me, i mean when you Look,
at lebron like he he's the ultimate positionless player because.
HE won i feel like he won a championship playing
every every position Like that lakers team In the bubble.
He was he was technically the point guard. That year
right then you look at his Days, in miami he
(09:11):
played every position depending on. The night sometimes he was
the Center when bosh. Was out sometimes he played THAT
four i mean most of the time he played, the fourth,
fourth spot. Three spot obviously some point guard And then cleveland,
HIS years i mean what, he was he was the
point guard on that On that. Cavs team Sometimes when
kyrie was on, the wing and sometimes he ran to
the two three like he was doing it ALL and
(09:31):
i feel like he got to, the ultimate ultimate level
and the mountaintop, doing it doing it at every.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Position possible now he's often Compared To, michael JORDAN but
i really think he should be Compared To, magic johnson
Just Because magic johnson also. Was positioning he won a
championship playing the five For Injured Kareem, abdul jabbar.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
But also, could post could push, the.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Ball, could pass kind of was known for, his passing,
you know but also could, average twenty you KNOW what.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I mean so it's.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Always INTERESTING but I Know michael jordan is that you
know that that that figure that you have to chase
and that you have to be rivaled against if you
want to be considered. The best this second person is
a good friend of both.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Of Ours.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Kevin durant he is a six thirteen footer because he
doesn't want to be called a seven footer with guard.
Like skills his archetype is literally what we see every
single day of a kid that is six', eight and
above that can, handle the ball that can, shoot the
midi that can, shoot the three that can get. TO the,
(10:33):
rack i Mean, LIKE before katie, I don't think I
mean lamar, alden WAS there but i Don't think lamar
olden was more as Offensively. Minded as, KATIE you Know
i mean katie could full speed come down, shoot a
three or take you off the dribble and go. Get
a dunk, and you know like he's basically seamlessly switched
between the four spots to the guard spots to. Play in,
(10:56):
center you know his Time, with the warriors he even,
played you. Know d defense he's MVP's two times nba
champion and the. REST goes, on I, mean playing warriors he,
was you know his defense. Even showed up so he.
Showed that versatility and you know you've been a teammate
of his and watched his greatness you.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Know, up close.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Yeah We know kevin durant is offensively like, like you
said the center size with, two guard skills like he
can do everything you want on. Any given, night, BUT
well group i respect for him as far as positionless
and being able to. Do it all it's, like you
Said on those warriors runs when he was, defending the
rim like they went small ball and he was like.
The rim protector he would switch, out on guard but
(11:38):
then people, stopped attacking him so then he was. COMING
over helping i think he led the team, in block
shots and he was Right there with draymond as being
one of. Their BEST defenders, SO i mean i think
everybody's respect for him, grewing that end doing those runs
when he was filling all types of different gaps. For.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Those, teams, YEAH absolutely man i think he's one of the,
if not one but number two in this era when
it comes.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
TO positionings, basketball i.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Mean we talk about this, all The, time but katie
he influenced so. Many different drafts now everybody's they're looking
For The. Next kevin durant if you six nine and
can shoot, a, jump shot oh He Might. Be kevin
durant like he's he got a lot of people drafted
over the. Past, few years.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Yeah send him a aging, percentage or. Something, all right
third We got The greek Freak Gianni's at totakunpo janni's
man emerging mid decade evolved into. A positionings force, like
you know we talk about it. All the, time you
know g made a crazy Take talking about yanna Is
better than jokice and we also have, seen you know
(12:40):
A more dominant he's more closer to, shack to me
just because of his his his domination and. The paint
right but also on, the defensive, end.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
He's fast, he can switch he, gets really low he.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Gets really high he wants it all to the point
where he's almost playing two oc like you'd, be like,
CHILL you, know i mean he could actually.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Almost hurt SOMEBODY.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
That's why i kind, of PUSHED back THOUGH i don't
i don't love, His VERSATILITY defensively like i feel like
he's a four or, Five on defense like he's a he's.
A rent protector he's locking down the painting when you
get him on, that rent on especially as, he's gotten
older lay in, his late twenties like he kind of
slowed down that end as far as being able to
switch out to the perimeter. And guard guards So that's
why i'm he take a little hit there on the position.
(13:23):
List for, ME but, offensively i mean, whatever you. Want
he can he can run your offense before you bring it. Up,
the floor run, pick and roll he can he can,
pick and roll You know. What i'm saying post up
like he just like he's shocked down there dominantly in
the paint. Offensively, to me.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, and you Know Credit, to jason, kidd you know
kind of steering that. Confidence into him he was very
raw pause when he first got to the league because
he needed to.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Gain some weight he.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Also was trying, to figure, out you know what he
could and what, he Couldn't Do and jason kidd tried
to pla, him at point YOU know. What i mean
and then from there, he, WAS like oh i got.
A ball hand and then he had a chance To
Talk to kobe bryant and he started to. Develop even
more but his main stread his interior. In the paint
like when he get it going and you don't trick
(14:11):
him out, of his position he gonna get maybe twenty
to twenty five points in.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
The, paint alone yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
He saw, the j kids saw the vision and then
like that kind OF similar to kd when, his rookie
year when they started him at, the two guard like
it was like he playing the. Two rookie years it was,
a little weird but it was they was. Trying stuff
out they saw a different, vision for him and both
of those things paid off. Down THE line, and i
mean you see kind of. The opposite way sometimes. You
(14:36):
see it you saw It with san antonio Last year
when pop had what was the guy starting? At point
guard who's he's? A, Power for oh? Jeremy so Chaining, Yeah,
So Han yeah pop pop had him in the. START
point guard i think just a little trial period trying
to add to. HIS perimeter, game i mean we got
to look down the line see if that pays off.
(14:57):
In THE future but i think we're gonna see, more
of that given guys with, some linked athleticism, some raw
talent putting the ball in their hands and trying.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
TO develop, them i Mean That's how russell westbrook becomes.
A point guard so YOU know, what i mean you
have to when you're just in, the development stage especially
when you got, a young squad you can do whatever
you have the time to build, and you know kind
of groom those players into being whatever they're. Supposed to be,
And you know russ played himself into the top, seventy
(15:25):
five spot so. Respect to that in the. Development over
there we just mentioned. This Player earlier draymond greene comes
off as the ultimate blue guy. Of this era his
ability to guard one through five and he could facilitate
as a. POINT for it i know everybody Used to
give steph, crap, and say oh he's not. A point
guard he shouldn't be in This conversation because draymond brings
the ball up all the time and he.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Shoots more than he actually.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Gets people Involved but like dre's and anchoring, small ball
lineups Like Obviously the golden state had, the death lineup
and then he was super, pivotal in That winning defensive
Player of the year and then also, just you know
winning a fourth championship, in that man.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
He is probably very high.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
On, my list yeah he right there with another guy,
on Our list and i'm gonna bring him. Up Right,
now ben simmons like defensively all over The floor like draymond's.
Power forward center defensively most, of the time, and then
offensively he's your point, guard point four You know. What
I'm Saying and ben simmons. The Same way Like i'm
in philly playing with Him And he ben simmons versatility
(16:29):
is what. Made. Us good really Obviously We had joel
embiid and a bunch of talent, on The Team, but
ben simmons we put him on that floor at that.
Point guard position all, of a, sudden, everybody says oh that's,
a huge team but in reality average size obviously me
being a, point guard side and Then We, had danny
green we averaged two to, three guard Sides And then
ben simmons six y ten to buy a six' nine and,
(16:51):
Then joel seven foot like we look Huge Because it
was ben simmons and he. All over the floor he's
created matchup problems and he's going. To your point guard
but you got to put a. Power forward center on
like what? Position is he? Offensively is the, question.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
During his time Dude You know, his all, star campaigns
you know six ten point guard basically Ran the offense
for philly and, then also defending, centers uh and, guards
and you know his playmaking ability got him up to
average set points seven point seven.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
A sists per game he was considered A.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Position in his unicorn they were having Him in Conversations,
with ron and MAGIC you, know what i mean on pace.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
To do those things and obviously got hurt.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
And you know the whole thing Of getting traded to
brooklyn AND now he's in, la but you know there he,
had some shooting limitations, but overall the upside it's the biggest.
Strength that he, had and, you mentioned you, know playing
alongside him.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
That he was so good because he can he had he,
had the ball skills, like he could dribble he could
pass as good as anybody in the. League at the
time and it's the athleticism, like it was no it was,
No matchup for him like you put a four. Or
five on, him he's. TOO fast too quick, I.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Was gonna say i think that's the most underrated. Thing,
is his speed.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Yeah that's what you're looking, for in this conversation we're
talking about like looking for link with speed so you
can so you can go up and upper position. Or
down the position like it's all about matchup problems on both.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Ends and the floor when we, Come back from break
seth has a story and the Insight Of.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Playing with ben.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Simmons tell me when you Were, playing with the sixers.
Where was the moment do you have a specific game
(18:38):
or a practice where you've seen bend and you're, just kind,
of like all RIGHT you, Know what i mean like,
HE legit it.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Was i mean for the FIRST training camp, when i
GOT there like obviously i. PLAYED againstim, my news i
mean it's talent or whatever but you get in practice
and he's. Running the whole show he really in practice Looking,
like bron and magic just pushing the ball. At his
own pace you don't really need an offense for him because.
He's calling the shots he's point. People where to go
i'm going to quick, dribble hand off here might skip
(19:07):
the dribble hand off. And driving and, attack AND he,
sees like i, said he's so big see. The floor
all over so he. Was just a monster and then
in training. Camp he was shooting he was, shooting the
ball too. Like we're getting champion i'm calling my. Friends and,
calling home, I'm like you know ben can, Make a
jump shot like he had a couple of corner threes
that they in, practice, and they're. Like nah, No way i'm.
Like i'm telling you but, obviously BEGINNING the, game and i,
(19:29):
mean for whatever reason he don't feel. Comfortable SHOOTING the
ball but i feel like just it's a mentality thing
for him when. It comes to that but he.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Had it all man the next player we're going To Talk,
about is kawhi leonard. A two way monster we watched
this guy go from defense and, then crow like literally
it's very rare you get to the league.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
And you get to blossom into.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Becoming, whatever it is yes you could, become a bigger
role you get like, maybe second third.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Option you peak there but this.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Dude literally became the guy and now, is considered. A
superstar you know i mean he won the one and
Only Title for the toronto raptors after Being traded for
DeMar derozen And then now he's he also played a
Pivotal Role In the san antonio, spurs winning a TITLE,
he had finals mvp and then like he's just he
(20:20):
can literally. Lock down on anything and then obviously we
know what he does on the offensive end.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Because that's gradually grown.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
You consider HIM positionless or like i look at him as.
LIKE a, small four i.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Mean he could be a small, ball POWER for it
and i think he can. ALSO be a two i
think he's, in, between. That TWO three four but i
think because we see it so like straight, narrow of. Like,
yo you're three YEAH you, know what i mean we don't.
Consider it that way but if he was in a
different lineup and they had to put, IT all out
there i think he could literally play the.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Two or the four.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
I'm Rolled with that on Kawhi, twenty, ten s kawhi like?
Is he?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Get injuries got? It, he, slowed down heah. Yeah he
slowed down he's not really. Trying to GET that, But
now i see. I've, seen last game man he made
a play where he like.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Zipped to the.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Basket and banged out he did kind of.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Get his. Pop backs.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
It's spurts it's spurts it might.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Not be too much he might not be trying to
be zipping because he's more his game is more steady
and smart because he's been injured and he has to
pick and choose when he needs. To explosive and not
so he don't like make his knees mess up, or
anything like that but he definitely make.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
HIS knees, mess up, i mean you know like he don't.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Got.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Too Much freedom. Man it's cartilidge. Is it's tricky man
AND you know how i get.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
What took him to the next level for.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Me.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Was his handle man like obviously he, came to the
league is, he could guard anybody but him being up
to handle the ball like he is that ass. To
his game tremendously like he get into his spots and
he looks on pop out pot like he's patting. That,
THING out there.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yeah i mean Another Player, that's similar paul GEORGE you,
know what i mean like two way wing who, could
play point forward defend elite guards, when he wants to
he can slide to the power for. Because he's like
sixteen and then OBVIOUSLY you.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Know what i mean in the.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Respectful season of twenty eighteen twenty nineteen average, twenty eight
per game he was fourth and steels all defensive honors
and can showcase you, know what it TAKES you, know
what i mean to be to play multiple positions that you,
want him to PLAY you. Know what i mean And,
obviously since leaving indiana he's been taking, say a back
seat but like a more robin roll on the, teams
(22:28):
that he's PLAYED you, know what i mean because he's
Obviously played With future hall, of famers and Whatnot and
He's a HALL of famers and i, see in his
career you know eventually he's. Going To get there paul
george is definitely one, of those positionings GUYS you, know what.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
I mean that's Easy Call, him and jason tatum who you're,
Gonna get into soon like that's who everybody's looking, for
in today's league, like that that prototype that arche type
of a big wing who, can shoot. The ball drive it.
Like they make you they make your. Team in your
lineups makes sense when you, got players like that because
(23:00):
you can put so many different players in that in
that line up with him and just slide them. Into
whatever you're missing like if he needs to go, to
that two guard put. Him at the two if if
you got a good good, two IN the three put,
pg at the four, and it's gonna work Like you.
Know what i'm saying so like they just make. Your
team make sense.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
This one is kind of funny because obviously we see
him as, a front court, player but on offense he literally.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Can Do, It, ALL nikola yoko.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Yeah i was talking to, somebody about this earlier like is? He,
a positionless player.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Yeah he basically redefined.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
What the center is like we don't even say five
men no, more, because it's like oh it's such. A
front court guy but he can take the ball. And
bring it up he can pass, out of the post
he can pass.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
While he's dribbling up he. Can shoot the.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Three he can score, if you want to you CAN
read like Even i mean obviously the, strength isn't the
DEFENSE you, Know what i mean but. It's, the offensive end.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
YEAH and that's why i can't put him in my
go five just because you got to give. ME something on.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Position i don't think he's gonna, make THE goat.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
FIVE but i do i do have to honor it
as one of the positionless guys because he's just not.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Back to the, basket, he's not like oh.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Just three level score he, is, A, offensive threat like
okay y'all, want to double me you're.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Gonna, pay for this oh you're gonna give me. One
on one matchups you're. Gonna, pay for this okay let
me do.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
This That and the third i'm gonna kill, You on
the boards like, however you want it it is going to.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Be a long, night It's, no coverage fron like whatever
you coverage, you throw at him he got.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
An.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Answer, FOR it yeah absolutely a d man, ad ad
you know, battle through some injuries but primarily. A, big
with skills obviously there's the infamous photo floating around on
the internet. Where he's six' one he has those like,
goggles on and you're like this. Can't be the same
person he has, that like insane, growth spurt but his
(24:54):
ability like he kept all his.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Skills with his growth, spurt he didn't GET goofy you
know what i mean, and, lose IT and say oh.
Well i, just outgrew myself like nah, he has he can,
handle can.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Shoot the ball he has a mini he can switch
on defense like one of. The strong two way players
And You know our or, buddy diggs was, saying that
like You Know talking about the luca ad trade like
yo win trading for like some trash like ruzz all
defensive player and you really people love to Like DUMP
on a d and i think it's it comes with The,
(25:27):
Territory OF playing with braun but i think being, able
to highlight his strengths you'll truly get to see what.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Type of player he is and.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
When you as a player when you when you're On,
the floor playing against ad you feel him man, everywhere
all over the floor like he's his presidence fell especially
defensively that the, defensive versatility is there obviously and, offensively
he's a. To me he's a, Big he's a stretch
big like a stretch big who can, move all, over
the floor picking, pot pick and roll post take. You
(25:59):
off the dribble whatever he can do it, all FROM
the big position but i can't. As far as positionless
players he. Stops at that four spot like you can't
put two other bigs out there on the floor with. Him,
AND make it work yeah i mean you can. BARELY
put one out THERE i.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Know he's been i know he'd been crying about getting a,
big out there a.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Center so it gets clunky you put another. Sent out
there gets clunky and if you put, two out there
with it or another, big and a. Nine shooter, IT'S
even nastier.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
So YEAH i don't know if i want to SEE
him in the three i was going to actually before
we moved on about like taking us behind, the scenes
of just trying like seeing the magnitude of what eighty
does on the floor. IN an, actual game scenario.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
I mean he make you every time you, step in
that paint offensively like you. Looking for where eighty at,
That's why it's so tough. Like he anchors your defense
you can play all types of different coverages with him
back there, and OFFENSIVELY like he can, like i said
he can he can orchestrate your office from. The high
pole to elbow he can, pass you do it all
(27:03):
but like IT'S that's the only thing I don't like
about Is Luca, Conversation AND the luca trede like i
feel like he. Getting disrespected a little bit.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Oh not a little, bit it's all A bit. You
KNOW what i MEAN like, i think it's i mean,
you you played over there, you know what it is and.
OBVIOUSLY you're gonna love it i think it's quiet down
a little bit more. Because both teams are home but
the idea of it is just kind of like people
forget how good he. Was, because again it's overshadowed right
(27:31):
you don't you don't make the, you don't win a CHAMPIONSHIP.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Then you failed in.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
La that's just the standards and it's unfortunate because adies
always in. Conversation for best defensive player he's always IN,
the conversation of all Nba And. He's ALWAYS an all
star so i think it's just a dirty mark on
him because he has to deal with that because of
(27:57):
the pressure That.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Comes, with playing with.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Broun YEAH it's, A question of i mean nico said
it in one of his press one of his million.
Press conferences since the, trade but he was Like if
you Don't VALUE ad, as an all nba player then
it's not. Gonna MAKE sense TO you and i mean
i agree, With it IN some sense like he i
feel like they probably get overvalue on him a little
bit as far as it's how long how, long the
run gonna go Because part of it is lucas twenty
(28:20):
five and one, of the best players already Probably a
better player. Than AD in some sense but i mean if,
if people in the league and especially the players in
the locker rooms and, stuff know like you can, you
can deal with it and it makes a little bit
Of sense when you got ad, Out there healthy and
Roller like a team. With ad could. Be Anybody, it's,
THAT simple.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Jimmy butler dude i think he is a positionalist guy
man because obviously, he got to the league got drafted
as a defender out of work at and kind of
elevated his Role.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Similar, to, Color the kauhi.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Path right but he's, gretty his style of, play it's
all around game like he's the guy, that may have five.
Points they have forty points like you just don't know what.
Type of guy he is he'll go and, lock up
their best player or he'll.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Go and.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Win a game for, you he's locked down wings, he
can run the point he. Can bang in the post
he was A Twenty Fourteen, twenty fifteen most improved player
and he has a consistent streak of averaging Twenty points Per.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Game with chicago and.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Minnesota AND his adaptability helps and i think That Adaptability
is showing with golden state, because when They acquired him
obviously the warriors were.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Left for dead, before they made THIS move. You know
what i MEAN. They wasn't gonna get kd They Had.
To go get jimmy.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Butler they made the swing jimmy being able to pick
up the slack on offense has changed that.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Whole mentality on both, ends the VERSATILITY is, there like
like i said depending, on what the team needs depending
on what the, game's called. For that night he can
he can switch up the way he plays his game
to make it. Make sense for your, team if you,
need to like you said if you, need to. Go
score forty he can he can lead your offense and
do that if you need him the facility he. And
get other guys shots he comfortable doing that and defensively.
(30:04):
Make your team make sense in the fact that he can, guard, Really,
one through four right yeah take on that challenge in
the post and then rebound pushed the break. Like he's
he up there you gonna find him in my top
five because on both ends he got it and.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
He not gonna back down that's the underrated, thing is,
The you know the toughness like toughness isn't on, the
on the stats sheet but toughness plays, a huge toughness
and effort right because you gotta want.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
To DO it for one and i always got a
love on because he elevates his, game in the bigger
moments like, he's, better IN the playoffs right because i
think that that comes into being positionless and being versatile
in the, sense that in the playoffs we're gonna take.
Away what you do best we're gonna. Take away your
best plays, if you one dimensional player we're gonna scout
you and and. Keep you off that left but if,
(30:53):
you can, Do it all it's hard? Like what do
you want what are You Trying to do with jimmy butler?
TRYING to take. Away passing i almost gonna I'm gonna isol.
You and i'm gonna, Score if You double me i'm
gonna i'm gonna take my time. AND get other guy,
SHOTS i can go. Right i, CAN go left you know.
I can do it all i can shoot the jumper
good enough. To make YOU honor it AND then, i,
was like i said defensively he's he can guard everybody
(31:16):
and and he don't really need a double like he
can he, can bang with the bronze or he can
put him on the guards and whoever with the guards
after you can put him, on the kyrie or whoever
and he can do a decent. Job and make.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
You work that's a fact this last player and self
explanatory man like this dude Took A backseat as an
all star to join a team.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Before they kick things off and now it's in.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
The rafters for this part being POSITIONLESS and, You KNOW what,
i mean and i think don't you think to be
a positionless player?
Speaker 3 (31:53):
You, have to sacrifice.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Too yeah, the ultimate sacrifice andre goodalad that's why he's
In In the rafters and golden state now because he
came off the bench for really The. WHOLE run, with
the warriors i mean he was one of these was.
One of the best Players He. Was a borderline all
star people forget When He, first went the golden state
and he came off the bench like. It was a
big deal, it was tough for. One but he came
in but that versatility coming Off the bench allowed the.
(32:16):
Warriors to do different things he could Come in From
anybody from steph to draymond And they're, you know what
i'm saying and there and. That lineups would be Good
and that's why. Those warriors teams were good they had a.
Whole slew Of Positionless, players You Got, ego dollar kad
Sean livingston. You, Know what I'm saying draymond i'm, sure
(32:37):
i'm forgetting a couple but that's that's four or five
positionless players that. Can do it all that the whole
league is looking for those type of players so they
could play that small ball. And, GET away with.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
It man i. Got NO notes for that man.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
I got two audible mentions too for positionless players OF
the twenty tens that i want to throw out, there
because it's. I mean interesting Case Studies, but we got
kyle anderson who's. Who's similar than That round. You know
what i'm saying, he can play the. POINT play, the four.
Five i mean he's.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Done, he's an underrated defender yes. Good hands like good.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Hand he's smart with size i'll, see the quickness ain't
there but like he's he anticipates. Where it needs to
be he GOT the he got. THE iq to overcome
that i think.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
The quickness part is deceptive, like a turtle, right now
hear me out because like obviously the turtle gets a
battery of type of most stories and, how, they physically
are advertised right but.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Then they get it done. They still get it done so.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
The, idea, of it is like oh he's shooting form
or how he shoots or how he. Moves and this
and that if you think about, a lot of shot,
Blocks A lot of steals kyle anderson makes all those types,
of plays in THOSE games.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
You know what i, mean he's gonna sneakily score but
he's gonna catch you.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Off guard like a turtle obviously that's, not like the
sexiest comparison but, over.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Where you're coming from. He plays with His brain.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
He plays, with he's a smart place smart basketball. And
he knows his strengths he's not, gonna play outside of it.
You know what i mean but it reminds me he
Fits In. That, archetype like boris yao.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah, and and in some sense you gotta have that
to be positionless because you You got to learn every
you gotta learn, every spot in, the playbook like you
know because you don't never know where. You're gonna be
that night you gotta learn more players tendencies because you're guarding.
More players In the, league and what i'm SAYING you
gotta have the iq to to learn different stuff on
the fly and do different things on the fly because
(34:36):
you don't know where you're. GONNA be any given, night
i got one more but we're gonna do it and doing. Born,
in the, wrong era okay all right.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
When, we come back from break we're gonna, give our, Goat,
Top five all, right seth so you know obviously it's
your time. TO give up this five i think. You
(35:03):
Started first last week so i'm gonna. Kick it off
with mine, i'm gonna start with Five And My, fifth
is slim REAPER katie.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
YOU know what i mean.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
I got him at five, i feel Like you know
kat the warriors years earned him a spot and the
goat tier.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Of twenty. TEN positionings Players. At four i got iggy.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Iggy's the ultimate championship guy we just talked, about HIM
with high praise So.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
I had Him over kdoss I got Iggy. Over kd.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
OH my, God for positionings i mean. Katie can't have
it all man kd already. One of the greatest scores.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Man. MY dog For Real. Three i got JIMMY butler.
YOU know what I mean i. Gotta put jimmy right
there that dude is.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Put on his hard hat he does whatever, you ask Him,
to do similar TO iggy and that's why, i had
to put. Him, Because they get dirty obviously katie's a number,
one option on many teams and he is. Leaned on
for his scoring but these guys are, leaned on for
EVERYTHING else, you know what i mean, whenever their number
is called whether they need to defend the best or
if they need to come up with some big points.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Him. MAKE a Big Shot.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Two i got draymond Green I'll see nobody over, draymond
green at this point just because of what he. Does
on the defensive end he. Can guard one through five
people try to, write him off every year and he's.
In the conversation of defending you can get a new big.
That came from another country you can get a new
big that's the. Greatest big out of college draymond is
(36:34):
ready for that challenge. AND his size and heart i.
Gotta give him his credit, and then last number one
the ultimate positionless player. OF this, Generation and era i
mean i'll Put Him, Up There.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
With.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Magic johnson lebron james.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
MAN lebron's, the ultimate guy i mean when, you talk
about COMPLETE players, you.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Know what I. Mean you talk about. Lebron he is
THE icon. You Know What i mean, if lebron james
didn't Exist We'll.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Be TALKING about scottie pippen but I Think he had
surpassed scottie pippen and leaps and bounds when it comes
to these things that he has.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
To, offer to the game man.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
That's a sick five brother that is oh mind. Looking
a little bit different that's why that's. Why we do go,
AHEAD my Five Number. Five i got jimmy butler you.
Explained it that. Pretty well I'm Gonna stick i'm real jimmy.
Butler At five, number four ben simmons right, just BEING on,
both ends like i mean.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
You've seen it up close you have friends.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
And play on, both ends had. A yeah had a
course i. You four FOR two years number three kd.
YOU had him at five. I got him at three
i mean one through five on, both ends of the.
Floor the Definition, of positionless number two giannis he not,
even IN your top FIVE which i don't even i
(37:55):
don't know how that how? Anything in your top five
giannis is he had an, argument For My. Number one
rich lebron james But you about. To play giannis at
one he, Had an Argument. For one especially young, jannison we're.
Talking twenty tens young athletics when, he came in, the
league we didn't know we didn't, know what it was?
(38:15):
Like what is he like he, just, he's a skinny
athlete dude just running. AROUND all over the floor.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
I think his. Strength came towards the end so it's
hard for me to.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
LIKE really give him that i think twenty twenties is
more like twenty eighteen to twenty twenty two would be
his case for him. To be in this mix if we,
Were saying the Twenty. TWENTIES i'd be like jannis i
couldn't just. Give HIM that early Nod and.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
I can't Put draymon like i, love draymond defensively the
ultimate but. YOU in the offense too, i can play
but offensively you gotta put specific players around. Him, to
make it, work.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
OKAY we're doing hypothetical so i ain't gonna never see
with no other Offensive, players outside of THE warriors. You
know what i.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
MEAN so it's it's hard i only Can go off
of what i've seen. WITH my own Two hours I.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Didn't have draymond, or eagle dollar in there which two,
of my favorite players. Ever BUT which.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
IS crazy but i, understand i, feel like you you
took you made the criteria of, what You think it
is and.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
I'M not mad at it i think that.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
You make, a, VALID point but yeah, man i JUST
you know that's how. I was looking at It that's
the reason, why GIANNIS didn't make Mind but i understand.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Why, draymond. Didn't make yours.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Okay Okay born in the wrong era. ONE of my
favorite segments i got a name, For you who is
positionless but his career didn't pan out the. Way We
thought it would michael carter was was. Born in the WRONG.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Area, My, Dog m c Wright yes.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Rookie of the year eleventh, pick, six six, sixty six
okay sixty six sixty seven point guard defensively could. GUARD
all over the floor i thought he Was Gonna. Be
a perennial all star, eventually developed a jump shot but
he just the. The jump shot didn't come obviously, had
SOME injuries later on but i think if he would,
(40:04):
have built that jump shot he would have been off
and running in the two thousands. And STILL to, this
day but i, mean it's hard To play, you know
what i'm saying guard at that spot. Without finding the
perfect situation, That, Can't Shoot The balls bro michael carter walliams.
Bought in the wrong. ERA you're rolling with that.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
I ain't, MAD at it i LIKE.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
I like, M c w i mean i think if,
he and we Joked Around like myself and evan turner and,
him talked about you know if he was surrounded with
the team that, actually had the RIGHT tools, You know
What i mean LIKE even evan jokes saying i could
have been, a better vet TO him, You know what
i mean like he, KNOWS like the structure wise i
(40:44):
think he if he, was set up for success he
would be definitely talked about a little bit, more and
probably STILL playing.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
You know what i mean he's now making.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
His professional, boxing debut soon you know, he's made a
career change but definitely one of the guys that should
be mentioned in this conversation.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Mcw like a guy he got. To be on the
floor he the only guy on the, Floor who can't
really shoot like he gotta have be surrounded, by a
bunch of SHOOTERS a stretch vive and i don't think
early in his career he never really. Got that situation
for Him but, he like a Janis type. Like, a
young jannis type yeah he's got to be surrounded by
shooters and then you. Can, use, All his strengths.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Yeah no i'm WITH that who you, Got I.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Was, gonna, say kenneth fury yeah man he just the energy,
you need him to guard you. Need him to, do
whatever he Was there, You know what i'm saying like
obviously this. It would pay off now but obviously he
was a casualty of not being able to to be
a traditional four what, they needed him to be so
(41:49):
he couldn't.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Necessarily, guard the post players, yeah but like they're saying today's.
Game was more spread out you need more versatility at
that big. He could have switched that he was quick
to switch out. On guards, and, the perimeter, so defensively
yeah because defensively the Versatility Is. Definitely. There, with, kenneth free.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Yeah man man this.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Is.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Actually a good one man i'm interested to see what
people have to say about. THIS because it's very controversial
i know people are gonna give me a.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Hard time about, My five but it's okay.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
Katie specifically, because, he's gonna be like dang That's how
you feel like i'm way, better THAN such and such or,
i could be you know, you got, me, AT five,
but like, yeah I mean You know maybe i'll. Maybe i'll,
Sleep on it right now, i'm okay with my choices
but we definitely want to hear. What you got to say,
but before you do, that, make, sure, you rate, comment
(42:43):
review like share it, be sure to you know.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Mention myself and self self? Where can They, Find, you.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
That's, dot CURRY TWITTER instagram S D o T C
